- 0:02Speaker 0: Welcome to the Brain's Body Podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 0: I'm Dr Christopher Kevin Slayton, your host and author of Brain Talk.
- 0:09Speaker 0: Learn the Brain's Body with Dr Slayton, live.
- 0:11Speaker 0: And here we go.
- 0:12Speaker 0: Because we're talking about the negative, positive flow of energy, action and feelings as information processing tasks.
- 0:22Speaker 0: Because when the brain is hurt, we're talking about, since the received path functions.
- 0:26Speaker 0: The sense path, I'm saying, represents your sense of self.
- 0:30Speaker 0: The received path represents your sense of feel for self, because we're talking about the body language that you display when you're hurt, sad and upset and how that's your inner voice backward forward that you have to overcome in order for you to settle down and begin to respond differently.
- 0:51Speaker 0: And that's why signs of care is so critical to your growth and development as a professional, because you may be the block that prevents this person from responding, not because they don't want to, but because you did not present your body through signs of care that allowed him or her to feel comfortable, let's say confident, that your interaction was not going to aggravate their past experience of other people in similar roles and functions.
- 1:24Speaker 0: Because pain, hurt and sadness does not necessarily mean you did it or you're the harm, but it can necessarily point to the environment from which you're operating that led to the crisis of that person.
- 1:39Speaker 0: And when you lack care in the way you interact, then you become a negative sign of energy, social, positive energy.
- 1:49Speaker 0: So the sense path is cluttered because the child has to figure out can I trust you?
- 1:56Speaker 0: And that's heavy lifting.
- 1:58Speaker 0: And that's what we're talking about, because children today are in many, because children today are in many, many ways, broken in many, many days.
- 2:07Speaker 0: Broken because they have to learn how to live through the pain, hurt and sadness each day and continue to allow their inner voice, their play voice, their inner sense of feel, the voice that they play with.
- 2:20Speaker 0: Oh, that don't mean anything.
- 2:22Speaker 0: I'm talking about introspection that has to translate into brain talk when they respond in the social, cognitive environment.
- 2:30Speaker 0: And you can look at the body both ways the child and yours and look at the influences.
- 2:36Speaker 0: So now I'm moving to the anxiety that's in a person as a helper who's also in crises and trying to work with a child who is the one that the helper is supposed to be removing from that physical, mental, emotional state of hurt, pain and sadness, and it requires a self-reflection.
- 3:02Speaker 0: That's what we're talking about when I'm talking about the sense path being blocked.
- 3:07Speaker 0: I'm talking about the fact that your received path is not being allowed to receive the information flow in such a way that it moves through the received path, function of thought, reflection and response to the social cognitive events that are happening in the sense band and that forward feed that's coming is the brain's response to change the state of the body, which is the mind and the language.
- 3:37Speaker 0: And that's why I say when you talk through signs of care, you know it, because the person who receives it responds to that energy and instantaneously you can grapple with that.
- 3:49Speaker 0: Why?
- 3:50Speaker 0: Because it's physics, it is the physics of the human system and the response is clear Help me, wait a minute, if you don't know how to help me.
- 4:01Speaker 0: That's the child's perspective.
- 4:02Speaker 0: Then why did you make contact?
- 4:05Speaker 0: Because you have to be deep.
- 4:07Speaker 0: So when that child's response hits you, it must go directly through your receive path and processing, cognitive processing, through a sense of feel for self and your brain.
- 4:20Speaker 0: So you're involved in the transaction and the forward feed is you, and inside that, I mean, is the context of that child's experience that you're trying to address through signs of care a sense of feel for that child, so that when you begin to talk, it's brain talk.
- 4:41Speaker 0: Now that inner voice that you share with that child is now being modeled, because you want that child to display their social, academic talent for moving through the praises of self.
- 4:53Speaker 0: But you first, and when you do that, the child awakens to the understanding that they can too.
- 5:00Speaker 0: But that's under the pretext that you're protecting them or understanding.
- 5:06Speaker 0: I'm adjusting my body language to you to meet your needs so that you can understand that, from a point of empathy, I must allow you to feel me and feel who and what I can be.
- 5:19Speaker 0: If you work with me and I don't have any anger or resentment because you're rejecting me, because you're human and we go through this because it's important.
- 5:29Speaker 0: Success is important and getting this child to unwind and leave the negative energy in their pocket is twofold.
- 5:38Speaker 0: It helps you, help them, help you.
- 5:41Speaker 0: And so I'm talking about this because my new book, brain Talk, is going through these process variables that you need to be aware of, because we're talking about child's play space.
- 5:54Speaker 0: Wait a minute.
- 5:54Speaker 0: I don't have to say child, youth, young adult, adult, older Americans, young adult, adult, older Americans.
- 6:24Speaker 0: We all have this inner voice and we get locked up in it when we fall into the releasing energy, because you don't want to know how you really feel on the outside, where that feedback loops come back and hits you in the face and tells you quit it, quit, quit introspecting.
- 6:37Speaker 0: Let's start doing brain talk.
- 6:39Speaker 0: No, talk to the brain, not the body.
- 6:41Speaker 0: Talk to the brain, not the body, because the brain talks back.
- 6:46Speaker 0: Now you don't want to talk to the body.
- 6:47Speaker 0: That's the inner voice Always talking to the body.
- 6:51Speaker 0: That's your body language, that's your mind state, that's that fixed behavior pattern that you're trying to break through.
- 6:58Speaker 0: But you can't unless you reach the brain.
- 7:01Speaker 0: And you can only reach the brain through signs of fear, when the sense path is upset by major life events of social cognitive energy that's blocked because of mental confusion.
- 7:14Speaker 0: And the mental confusion is that you will not allow your received path to transform your sense up to a sense of feel for the brain so you can realize that the brain has to be in the lead of the body.
- 7:28Speaker 0: Now the transformation is occurring because the brain is in the lead.
- 7:34Speaker 0: Now you're reinterpreting your body language and now you're realizing and can accept I must change.
- 7:40Speaker 0: I must change because I do understand my problem.
- 7:45Speaker 0: It goes both ways.
- 7:46Speaker 0: It goes from the perspective of the learner and the perspective of the teacher, parent, coach, so forth and so on.
- 7:55Speaker 0: Human service, professional yes, the crisis of self.
- 8:00Speaker 0: It works both ways, because you are a physical, mental, emotional system as to is the learner or the person who's disorganized and don't understand the physics of self, transforming the mental self to understand the emotional self.
- 8:20Speaker 0: And so now you can't calm down, you cannot collect your sense of feel for self because you can't get past the negative flow of social cognitive energy.
- 8:35Speaker 0: That means you're blocking everything because the environment you feel is against you.
- 8:38Speaker 0: It works both ways.
- 8:40Speaker 0: This person don't want to listen.
- 8:42Speaker 0: Oh, I won't listen to you if you don't listen to me.
- 8:45Speaker 0: Signs of care.
- 8:45Speaker 0: Wait, break it down.
- 8:46Speaker 0: Signs of care I'm going to listen to you, but listen.
- 8:49Speaker 0: At some point you're going to let me know that you're receiving my feedback, my body language as signs of care and then you're going to shut up so I can help you pick yourself up and get back on a social, academic track, beyond introspection, to where.
- 9:09Speaker 0: Now you're talking to me through my brain.
- 9:11Speaker 0: I'm talking to you through your brain and we're doing brain talk so that we can rationally understand the crisis and if we can move you through it, because we cannot move you through it.
- 9:23Speaker 0: If you're in a dream space, we're just playing back and forth with your inner voice, your inner voice saying all these things to you, and you're just withdrawing and withdrawing because it makes you feel good, because it is not real interaction in the environment where you can look at yourself through the mirror, you can look at yourself, the way you treat other people, and that feedback comes back to you to say, look, you gotta stop.
- 9:47Speaker 0: This has been Doc Slade Live.
