- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, good everyone.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Jimmy and Chris we here from Heavy mag and we
- 0:04Speaker 2: are with Kellen and Nick from Sleeping with Signs.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Right down, guys, we're going good, very well.
- 0:11Speaker 1: That's good.
- 0:12Speaker 2: It's been two years since we caught up.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Years you busted Jimmy's cherry my first interview.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember this up in Brisbane.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Your first interview.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Man, she hasn't recovered it, off to sivering.
- 0:32Speaker 2: So what's been going on since I in the world
- 0:35Speaker 2: of Sleeping with Stories? Then?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Well, we finished a US tour.
- 0:39Speaker 5: We played our second record front to back. It's awesome time.
- 0:44Speaker 5: It was interesting going back and experiencing songs that you
- 0:47Speaker 5: recorded when you were like it was it like ten
- 0:49Speaker 5: years earlier or so, and then singing those songs at
- 0:53Speaker 5: your age now.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It's a fun experience.
- 0:55Speaker 5: But we got through it and it sounded pretty awesome,
- 0:59Speaker 5: and yeah, we probably won't do that again for a while.
- 1:02Speaker 3: We did it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: How does that guy now like because your voice at
- 1:09Speaker 2: the time, Yeah, how did you go with that?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Is still managing to get in the big him.
- 1:13Speaker 3: If you get up there, Yeah, I do.
- 1:15Speaker 5: It just takes a little bit longer to get warmed
- 1:17Speaker 5: up than normal, like when we're doing like the set
- 1:19Speaker 5: that we do here, when the songs are more in
- 1:22Speaker 5: my range.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Now, it's not as tough.
- 1:24Speaker 5: So it took it took a little bit of work
- 1:26Speaker 5: to get there, but we got there every day.
- 1:27Speaker 4: So you go like doing like when you do an
- 1:30Speaker 4: album from back, like when you write it, we would
- 1:33Speaker 4: never have thought you were going to be doing that,
- 1:34Speaker 4: you know, So like, is it difficult to replicate a
- 1:36Speaker 4: little sort of nuances in there that you probably didn't
- 1:39Speaker 4: count on?
- 1:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean there's songs that we literally have never
- 1:42Speaker 5: played ever on that record. So and you you don't
- 1:47Speaker 5: have like the crutch of like playing like a set
- 1:50Speaker 5: that you normally do where you you know, you think
- 1:52Speaker 5: about like the dynamics of it, and we'll play this
- 1:55Speaker 5: song to kind of bring it down and this one
- 1:56Speaker 5: to like lift it back up. It's just like you
- 1:58Speaker 5: only get those ten songs, you know. So we did
- 2:01Speaker 5: play some at the end, some extra ones at the end,
- 2:03Speaker 5: but playing.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Your test, so you're testing some new ones.
- 2:07Speaker 1: How is that?
- 2:08Speaker 2: So just talk talk about that for people who don't perform,
- 2:11Speaker 2: what that is like when you're performing your track for
- 2:14Speaker 2: the first time and getting the feel of it.
- 2:16Speaker 1: On stage.
- 2:17Speaker 6: It's terrifying.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it's weird playing a song that has just come out.
- 2:22Speaker 5: It's better to play a song that's come out when
- 2:24Speaker 5: it's been sitting on the internet for like a month
- 2:27Speaker 5: or so, then like, hey, this just came out yesterday.
- 2:30Speaker 3: It's just kind of an awkward experience. But but no,
- 2:33Speaker 3: it's good.
- 2:33Speaker 5: I think it's I think it's good to continue challenging
- 2:35Speaker 5: yourself and to keep yourself like moving forward and growing
- 2:40Speaker 5: as an artist.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Cool cool speaking of growing.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Eighth album on the way, is that correct?
- 2:47Speaker 3: It's it's in the very early.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Process, still writing and kind of like figuring out what
- 2:51Speaker 5: we wanted to sound like.
- 2:53Speaker 3: And yeah, we're.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Happy with a few songs we have so far, but
- 2:56Speaker 5: we're we're pushing ourselves.
- 2:57Speaker 3: As hard as we can for this. I want us
- 2:59Speaker 3: to play a song right now, brought.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Like to you signed you just starting now now, like
- 3:11Speaker 4: do you sit down and do you plant aunt? Do
- 3:13Speaker 4: you try and get away from what you've done? Just
- 3:16Speaker 4: mice recently and maybe a different directional at all with
- 3:19Speaker 4: this record. Yeah, whenever you thought a new album so
- 3:22Speaker 4: like it.
- 3:22Speaker 5: I mean, for the last two albums, it was kind
- 3:24Speaker 5: of like a similar experience.
- 3:26Speaker 3: We we worked with similar producers.
- 3:29Speaker 5: And so they were kind of like a brother sister
- 3:34Speaker 5: album or something, or a husband and wife or whichever
- 3:37Speaker 5: they're arguing, like like Gravy and Chips, Gravy and Chips.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Yeah, this record.
- 3:48Speaker 5: We definitely wanted to do something different, so we we
- 3:50Speaker 5: picked a different producer and we are just kind of
- 3:53Speaker 5: like riding together again, all in one space. And a
- 3:56Speaker 5: lot of the albums we've made in the past, just
- 3:58Speaker 5: well the last two and like sitting in the studio
- 4:02Speaker 5: and kind of writing as you go, and this one's
- 4:03Speaker 5: more of plug in, like you're actually at a rehearsal
- 4:06Speaker 5: space and writing that way.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Well, it's interesting because that when we just did the
- 4:10Speaker 6: Let's Cheers play through, it was it predated when I
- 4:13Speaker 6: was in the band, so I had to relearn, relearned.
- 4:16Speaker 6: I had to learn these songs I'd never really listened
- 4:18Speaker 6: to before. I actually loved it.
- 4:21Speaker 1: It was cool question.
- 4:24Speaker 6: But what I learned talking with Kellen and Justin is
- 4:26Speaker 6: that when they wrote that record all together in a room,
- 4:31Speaker 6: and so it's actually interesting to see this kind of
- 4:34Speaker 6: full circle moment now with this record, that this is
- 4:36Speaker 6: the first time we've finally all been in a room
- 4:40Speaker 6: together writing from scratch. It's been a really awesome process
- 4:44Speaker 6: because everyone in the band is so good what they
- 4:46Speaker 6: do that it's just been a really, really enjoyable time
- 4:50Speaker 6: in the studio because typically being in the studio is
- 4:53Speaker 6: not the easiest thing for me, but working on this
- 4:57Speaker 6: record all together so far and conjuring up has been
- 5:02Speaker 6: just really fun, really therapeutic. So I'm really excited to
- 5:05Speaker 6: see where it goes.
- 5:08Speaker 5: How much, Sorry my god, I just feel like when
- 5:11Speaker 5: you're like eight albums and it's important for everybody to
- 5:14Speaker 5: like make sure that they love their parts and that
- 5:16Speaker 5: it's like something that you're very proud of, because I
- 5:18Speaker 5: mean that's a feat to go eight albums, and I
- 5:21Speaker 5: think that everyone is like just wanting to like really
- 5:23Speaker 5: put their stamp on this one such conviction.
- 5:27Speaker 2: So how is the change in dynamics with Nick coming
- 5:30Speaker 2: in as a new member. Do that change the tone
- 5:32Speaker 2: of the band or you know, the feeling in the band?
- 5:35Speaker 3: Definitely, I think.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Like, you know, having Nick join the band, having Tony
- 5:39Speaker 5: join the band, having Maddie join the band, it's it's
- 5:42Speaker 5: definitely like elevated our bands.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I think that these guys are pros and they play
- 5:46Speaker 3: really really well, so it's it's it's.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Easy to stand next to them and alongside then you
- 5:51Speaker 5: don't have to worry about them like fucking up or
- 5:54Speaker 5: anything like that.
- 5:55Speaker 6: And that's and like we can it is like we
- 5:58Speaker 6: laugh about it, but you know, we've all been in
- 6:01Speaker 6: so many bands and this is the first band that
- 6:05Speaker 6: I've ever been in where we can all lean on
- 6:07Speaker 6: each other as whether it's artists, as friends, whatever it is.
- 6:10Speaker 6: And having that kind of dynamic just you can't manufacture that,
- 6:14Speaker 6: Like that's something that you find very organically and naturally,
- 6:18Speaker 6: and that's a really awesome thing about our band.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Yeah, and they're all, like, every single one of us,
- 6:23Speaker 5: it's like we want to just be everything that we've
- 6:26Speaker 5: done before. So it's it takes a little bit longer now,
- 6:29Speaker 5: but it's a good thing.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So you said, you're not that far into the kind
- 6:33Speaker 2: of writing process, A few songs down, any kind of
- 6:37Speaker 2: exciting collabs or anything out of the box you're working
- 6:41Speaker 2: on to be a bit different this time?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Are in well in mine?
- 6:43Speaker 6: Ask Billy Corgan if he's still in the middle.
- 6:50Speaker 5: We did a lot of collaborations on the last record,
- 6:52Speaker 5: and I like to kind.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Of split it up where I really am very selfish
- 6:57Speaker 3: about vocal parts, so I have a hard time giving those.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I mean, I guess if it's like the right person,
- 7:02Speaker 3: then cool. But for now we're just gonna kind of
- 7:05Speaker 3: keep it. I think, what do you take?
- 7:07Speaker 4: What do you if you made a lot the way
- 7:08Speaker 4: they sing, all the way they work with you on
- 7:10Speaker 4: the song, or what what are you goin to mean
- 7:12Speaker 4: by that?
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:13Speaker 3: I mean I.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Just selfishly like I enjoy singing my parts and writing
- 7:18Speaker 5: my parts. And then also it's tough when you do
- 7:20Speaker 5: a collab with someone because if you're not on the
- 7:22Speaker 5: road with them all the time, then you know it's
- 7:24Speaker 5: weird singing their parts perform.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah, quite right.
- 7:28Speaker 5: So I think, like it just has to be the
- 7:31Speaker 5: right person, it has to be the right situation. But
- 7:33Speaker 5: you know, we did a lot on the last record,
- 7:35Speaker 5: so I think this one we just kind of want
- 7:36Speaker 5: to hold it down.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Plus, this dude can fucking scream.
- 7:38Speaker 5: We got Tony who can sing, We got mad who
- 7:41Speaker 5: can sing.
- 7:41Speaker 3: So maybe I'll just make them do it this.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Everyone has a guy.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, So what's because you just talked about you have
- 7:51Speaker 2: done a ton of collaborations what's what are the standouts?
- 7:54Speaker 1: What's one of your favorite ones?
- 7:56Speaker 5: Well, I think fan favorite would probably be the Pierce
- 7:58Speaker 5: the Veil one.
- 7:59Speaker 3: That that I did, and I haven't heard it. Oh yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 3: you'll hear it a lot coming up soon, and haven't
- 8:06Speaker 3: listened to.
- 8:09Speaker 6: I think.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I think another one that stands out for me is
- 8:12Speaker 5: office last record. Working with Spencer from Under Oath was
- 8:15Speaker 5: pretty awesome and his voice is just iconic. So that's
- 8:18Speaker 5: one that was like one of those special situations where
- 8:20Speaker 5: it's like he brought that song to a whole other
- 8:22Speaker 5: level and without him it wouldn't have been as cool.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So yeah, sweet, I'm going to throw some random stuff
- 8:29Speaker 2: out from the internet here that's popped up over the
- 8:31Speaker 2: last couple of days when I'm doing research, So Callen.
- 8:37Speaker 2: There was a quote I seen him come up and
- 8:38Speaker 2: I can't remember which media organization it was and I
- 8:41Speaker 2: can't find it, but there was a quote that come
- 8:44Speaker 2: out that you've apparently said that you are one of
- 8:46Speaker 2: the greatest metal metal vocalists of this time or something
- 8:49Speaker 2: along those that. Something like that. I kind of scrolled
- 8:55Speaker 2: past and oh, that's interesting. I'm talking to him a
- 8:57Speaker 2: couple of days. I'll ask him. I haven't been able to.
- 8:59Speaker 6: Find me, and I've heard him say that so many times.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Maybe maybe, sure the video I got it, maybe in
- 9:08Speaker 3: the earlier days when I was drinking too many rum
- 9:10Speaker 3: and cokes.
- 9:10Speaker 6: And.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Probably I would.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I wouldn't doubt myself in the past saying some stupid ship.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I actually think it's disappeared because it was bullshit and
- 9:19Speaker 2: it was just someone doing some clickbait.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Okay, it could be. I mean some people doing clickbait
- 9:26Speaker 1: on the internet. You know so.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Thin that There was another one I found just before
- 9:31Speaker 2: that was about you possibly being a new Lincoln Park
- 9:37Speaker 2: singer back in the day, Okay.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I mean I love Chester.
- 9:41Speaker 5: I think that he's one of my favorite singers and
- 9:44Speaker 5: vocalists and performers.
- 9:47Speaker 3: And I don't know that I would ever know. There's
- 9:49Speaker 3: no way I could ever do that.
- 9:51Speaker 2: That was the question, would you have done it?
- 9:55Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to feel those sh.
- 9:59Speaker 3: No, it's hard to just singing my own ship. I
- 10:01Speaker 3: couldn't imagine. I would be so anxiety right in. So
- 10:06Speaker 3: that's off to the new singer because she's killing it.
- 10:08Speaker 1: By the way, Yeah, well that was gonna be part
- 10:10Speaker 1: of the question. I think so as well.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Yeah, oh man, it's it's awesome.
- 10:13Speaker 5: And I think like that was like a great move
- 10:15Speaker 5: to to to bring in someone that just sounds similar
- 10:19Speaker 5: in a way, like as far as like the tonality
- 10:22Speaker 5: of the voice, but so different. Also, I think it
- 10:25Speaker 5: like makes it if you found like a copycat or
- 10:27Speaker 5: something like that.
- 10:28Speaker 3: It just wouldn't be the same.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So I got one very last question.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Getting thanks.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Thanksging
