- 0:43the fullest.
- 1:04Hi, everyone.
- 1:04It's, Roxanne for a call.
- 1:07Roseanne, I'm so happy that you couldn't get again, on, I think for my 9th podcast, and have
- 1:13a very special meeting here today.
- 1:16Lisa McDonald, Lisa and I have known each other.
- 1:18I think it wrote about a year ago.
- 1:20Lisa, I was
- 1:20on.
- 1:22And, how good time then and recognize how much affinity or or alignment we had.
- 1:27And when I decided to start my podcast, I thought, oh my goodness, maybe she'll be, you
- 1:32know, research to come on.
- 1:33So she's, allowed herself that time to come on with me today.
- 1:38And I'm gonna tell you a little bit about Lisa and, Welcome, Lisa.
- 1:42Well, thank you very much Roxanne.
- 1:43Such an honor and a privilege to not only be invited here on your show.
- 1:48So this is a nice, turn of the tables here, a nice treat for me.
- 1:52But because I did really love our synergy, and I love your energy, and I love empowered women,
- 1:58you know, I could talk about the stuff we love to talk about at nauseam.
- 2:02So thank you.
- 2:02So I'm gonna do a bit with your bio and, you know, I often say I say a bit about your bio I
- 2:07want you to fill in.
- 2:08You're the best one to kinda tell the audience what's what they should really know about you
- 2:12to get to know about you.
- 2:14So you, Lisa has been empowering business owners, individuals, and entrepreneurs to
- 2:19transform their lives and achieve their goals and turn their dreams into realities by walking
- 2:24and talking and approaching life with love and work with fearless, gratitude, enthusiasm, and
- 2:30hope.
- 2:30Wow.
- 2:31I love that.
- 2:31Right?
- 2:32Just just so hopeful.
- 2:34And, she has a a suite of services, coaching, mentoring, and her top related podcasts, which
- 2:39we wanna talk a lot about today and online TV show.
- 2:42She's virus people to do their best every single day, which I think we all struggle with,
- 2:48Lisa.
- 2:49She's an example and, for everyone out there, she empowers and invigorates people that she
- 2:54speak to.
- 2:55And I've been in her presence, and I've experienced it.
- 2:57So definitely, something we're gonna enjoy today.
- 3:01She prove she proves that moving away from fear, anxiety, and overwhelm, even the newest
- 3:06online entrepreneurs can generate exciting momentum as they move closer to building a life
- 3:12and business they love.
- 3:14I like that.
- 3:16So thanks again, like I said it.
- 3:18And today, and I know you and I, when we had, it was on your show, we just talked that we had
- 3:24fun.
- 3:25So I, Fear is something that I often see daily when I, you know, speak or, whether I see a
- 3:32client or I coach And it's something that I think it's real.
- 3:37What we know is that it's real, except there's real fear where I'm gonna, you know, be really
- 3:44hurt and fear that really cripples us from taking those steps because, daily, most of us
- 3:50get fearful of things that are out of our realm.
- 3:52So I want you to talk because that's your brand living fearlessly with Lisa.
- 3:56So I want you to talk a little bit about that and kind of what got you connected with that,
- 4:01and then turn kinda how that translates out to what you do daily with all the things that you
- 4:05do out out in the world.
- 4:07Well, thank you very much.
- 4:08I really appreciate the opportunity to talk about.
- 4:11Not it's it's my brand, but it's really how I choose to live my life.
- 4:16And, you know, it it's really the message that I impart.
- 4:19I use all my platforms, my global platforms, smaller circles, speaking, reading, blogging,
- 4:27any opportunity I have to impart my message of living fearlessly to the masses because people
- 4:32do become crippled by this.
- 4:35You know, at different stages, of my life.
- 4:38I'm not gonna deny that, yeah, there's been fear.
- 4:41There's been you know, how am I gonna overcome this?
- 4:45Because, you know, especially as we get older, as you know, Roxanne and from the clients that
- 4:49you meet on a regular basis, you know, life throws us all kinds of unforeseen
- 4:55circumstances, and we're always faced with the choice Am I gonna succumb to this?
- 5:01Am I gonna succumb to victimology?
- 5:04Or am I going to learn whatever the lesson might be in the and there's a lesson with
- 5:09everything in life, not just the great stuff, raw, raw, raw, you know, kudos, accolades,
- 5:14accomplishments, goals being achieved, it's more so the true testament of of what you're
- 5:19made of, in terms of grit, gumption, owning your own power because I'm here to uplift
- 5:26people to fear less and to live more.
- 5:30It's really going, okay.
- 5:31I've gotta figure some things out here.
- 5:33You know, I'm I'm none of us come out unscathed.
- 5:37You know, we're all afflicted by different things.
- 5:40Much of which again, as we get older are things that are foreseeably out of our control, but
- 5:45are inevitable.
- 5:46You know, as we get older, our parents get older, you know, we know that people are
- 5:50getting diagnosed with cancer much younger.
- 5:53We know all kinds of things in terms of global warming.
- 5:55You know, the world has seen all kinds of catastrophes in tonomies and hurricanes and
- 6:00floods.
- 6:00I mean, there's just, you know, and then, and then just what's happening in the political
- 6:03arena in the states, you know, there's a lot of things but it it's our choice what we choose to
- 6:10tap into.
- 6:10I don't, you know, I know enough about global affairs.
- 6:13I know what's going on in the world.
- 6:15But that's not the stuff that my mind needs.
- 6:17I mean, I'm really consumed and obsessed with mindset.
- 6:22And so anybody who I showcase on radio, oftentimes I will say, you know, particularly
- 6:28for them to be at the level of success in which they are.
- 6:30And of course, we all define success very differently, very uniquely, very individually.
- 6:36But successful people in general, they have a set of rituals.
- 6:40They have a set of mantra They have a set of proclamations.
- 6:44They have, a regimen, a daily regimen that has become habit forming that similar if you
- 6:51parallel it to somebody who is an avid runner, if they don't run their ten miles a day, they
- 6:56feel physically sick.
- 6:58Their equilibrium's off, their mood's off, their demeanor's off, everything's off.
- 7:03And so when you when you take fierce action in your own life.
- 7:07And again, for me, it's about self discipline, you know, motivation on its own, you know, and
- 7:13I've listened to some really interesting people who talk very specifically about the subject of
- 7:18motivation, and there's always different schools of thought for anything that I I choose
- 7:23to sponge up.
- 7:24And, you know, motivation on its own, nobody feels motivated to get out of bed.
- 7:29Nobody feels motivated to deal and and face head on tragedy.
- 7:33There's no motivation in breaking a bad habit that doesn't serve you.
- 7:38But if you want different results in your life, if you wanna be around people who are going to
- 7:44equal to you operate at their highest vibrational level, people who perhaps whatever
- 7:50it is that you aspire to do or endeavor to do, you know, look at the people who have already
- 7:55done it and have done it successfully.
- 7:56These are the people who you need to align yourself.
- 7:59With.
- 8:00And when you get exceptionally clear within yourself, because I don't think anything
- 8:05birthed.
- 8:05I don't think anything can be birthed unless you are exceptionally clear.
- 8:10And the things that you fundamentally need to get clear on before you can accomplish goals,
- 8:15before you can up your game or take your life to the next level and and just, like, go off on
- 8:20that trajectory of boom, you know, I accomplished it.
- 8:24And it might not be like a a 2 week goal It may not even be a 1 year goal.
- 8:29It could be a 5 had 5 year goals.
- 8:30I've had long term goals, and I just envisioned it.
- 8:34You know, I'm very much about blueprinting and road mapping things and seeing it, seeing it
- 8:41like it's already there.
- 8:42It's already been accomplished, you just need in physical real time through doing the hard
- 8:47work, putting one foot in front of the other, taking massive action, honing your mindset, you
- 8:53will eventually catch up.
- 8:54You can't have self discipline.
- 8:57You can't have fierce tenacity and fortitude and commitment.
- 9:01And great mentors, which I always encourage, you know, get good mentors, you know, be around
- 9:07the good people who are going to keep you on the straight narrow, who are gonna be plugged
- 9:11into your journey, you know, rather than watching the news, listen to the inspirational
- 9:17YouTube videos.
- 9:17So Tony Robbins the Oprah Winfrey's, the Mel Brown's, the Les Brown's.
- 9:22I mean, there's there's so many influential people out there who have all, if you look at
- 9:28their backstory, they didn't just become an overnight success.
- 9:31They didn't just become like, wow.
- 9:33Like, they radiate permit all this, like, ooze ooze out of their pores, this wonderful aura,
- 9:40generally speaking, nine times out of 10, if not ten times out of 10, anybody who has risen
- 9:45in the ranks, who's really honed it and become masterful with their own mindset, they've
- 9:51become very good at turning shit into gold.
- 9:53You know, they've gotten really good at not surrendering or succumbing to the victimology.
- 9:59They've looked at their life lesson and, and have known, even if you wanna look at it from a
- 10:03statistical standpoint, I am not the only one who's endured this in my life.
- 10:07Whether it be a byproduct of divorce, whether it be disease, whether it be death of a spouse,
- 10:12whether it be death of a child, whether it be a bankruptcy, a divorce, whatever the case may
- 10:17be.
- 10:18We've all been afflicted by things.
- 10:20So it's looking at that and going, okay.
- 10:24I'm going to use this to serve myself, to prop myself, to anchor myself, and I'm gonna lift
- 10:32people along the way because I know I'm not the only one.
- 10:36So for me, it's about be your own hero, be your own Shiro, be your own leader, and be your own
- 10:42best friend.
- 10:42And particularly when you're entrepreneurial, particularly if you're in my case, and there's
- 10:47many of us out there who are.
- 10:48I'm a serial solopreneur slash single parent.
- 10:53So I've chosen to wear as many hats as what I do because I'm in passion by many things.
- 10:59You know, podcasting radio being one of them, interfacing with lovely people like you who,
- 11:04you know, emit so much fantastic energy So it's this reciprocal dynamic that, you know, you're
- 11:10feeding my soul.
- 11:11I'm feeding your soul.
- 11:12We're talking about the things that in both of our lives truly matter.
- 11:16Which is going to elevate our own game, which is gonna make you go back to your clients and
- 11:20perhaps offer a nugget that I've said and vice versa that lends a different perspective.
- 11:27Oftentimes people in our industry, as you know, Roxanne, we say a lot of the similar things We
- 11:32say a lot of similar things because we're aligned with each other.
- 11:36We believe the same things philosophically.
- 11:38We're aspiring to that level of of personal best all the time and knowing it's not about
- 11:44being in competition with other people.
- 11:46It's about being the best most improved version of ourselves each and every day And so
- 11:52oftentimes, radio guests who have plugged into my show, the feedback, the lovely feedback, and
- 11:57the testimonials I've received is you know, you and your particular guest on your show today,
- 12:03I've heard that said so many different times, but it was the way in which it was expressed It
- 12:07was the parallels of the example that was illustrated by your guest.
- 12:11Something went on today.
- 12:13Something clicked, and it resonated with me.
- 12:16And it didn't matter how many times beforehand.
- 12:18I'd heard something said quite similar.
- 12:20So thank you for that.
- 12:21So you just, you know, it's life altering stuff.
- 12:23We're we're we're shifting people because we've chosen to shift ourselves.
- 12:28And it yeah.
- 12:29Absolutely.
- 12:29And I think, you know, what happens is so, you know, I want your I want your kind of take on
- 12:36this.
- 12:36A lot of people see, you know, see you or they see me and they think, oh, you know, these
- 12:40women have been full, you know, what do you know about not getting out of bed, or what do
- 12:46you know about not taking care of your kids?
- 12:48Right?
- 12:49Sometimes, you know, hear people say that.
- 12:51So tell me about some of the rituals that you do daily to kind of, you know, and I mean,
- 12:57you've obviously been doing it for a long time.
- 12:59And so have I, of course, we've both been through things.
- 13:02I know you've been through stuff, and I know in my book, I I share openly about what I've been
- 13:06through.
- 13:06Tell me what kind of rituals you do when when you start it.
- 13:11Right.
- 13:11Well, I think my journey of self discipline, and I've I've cited this before.
- 13:17Long story short, I used to be a competitive swimmer.
- 13:19So I had a really vigorous, rigorous regimen that, spanned many years.
- 13:26It was you know, training was 6 days a week, twice a day, and I was in an individual sport.
- 13:32So it was me and the pace clock.
- 13:34It was me trying to shave time off my time to obtain my best times.
- 13:39It was me trying to improve upon my personal stroke It was me trying to get up in the ranks
- 13:45so that I could qualify for higher levels of competition.
- 13:50So, you know, when you're getting up as a young kid before school starts and you're work you're
- 13:55training on weekends, you're training after school before school, which, of course, you
- 14:00have a very, fierce workout regimen, not just in the pool, but in preparation for being in
- 14:07the pool, diet, exercise, everything.
- 14:11You know, so I I knew what it was because of what my goal was to make the choice to elect
- 14:17not to be the social kid.
- 14:19I did not go to all the parties.
- 14:21I did not go to all the play dates.
- 14:24I did not go to all these things, but I knew that in order for me to stay focused on what
- 14:29was pivotally most profoundly important for me at that juncture in my life, of course, you
- 14:34have to sacrifice things.
- 14:36And I I was quite willing to forego the other things to stay true to my passion of swimming.
- 14:43And, so the discipline I've learned from that, and of course, my coaches were taught year
- 14:47coaches.
- 14:48So they were mentors.
- 14:49I was introduced to mentorship at a very young age, because of certain things that I had
- 14:55grappled with in my life, circumstances that had happened in my life.
- 14:59I mean, let's face it.
- 14:59I'm a divorced woman.
- 15:00I'm a single parent.
- 15:01I'm an incest survivor.
- 15:03I've been on my own since 16.
- 15:04I've paid my own way cash through college university, which came from working, choosing
- 15:09to work 2 to 3 day, jobs at the same time, to pay for my own tuition, to pay for my own
- 15:14books, to pay for my own transportation, and everything else that goes with, you know, basic
- 15:19needs being met.
- 15:21While doing a placement and working in the field before I even officially graduated.
- 15:27So I I always knew what it was to hold, the role and the title and the responsibility of
- 15:35many things and learning how to juggle.
- 15:38So I wound up in social services, no coincidences because of some of the things
- 15:42that, transpired in my life.
- 15:44And rather than feeling sorry for myself rather than thinking, okay, this could only have
- 15:49happened to me, and being on my own at sixteen years old.
- 15:53And, yes, I'd gone off the rails at one point because I didn't have guidance.
- 15:57I didn't have therapy.
- 15:58I didn't have anything.
- 15:59There was nobody guiding me through this.
- 16:02So as a result of doing a co op placement that led to realizing that in the post secondary
- 16:09world, in the vocation world, Wow.
- 16:11You know, I don't have to commit to something that's science based.
- 16:14I don't have to commit to something that's math based.
- 16:16I got into social services as a result of doing a placement in the C and IB, the Canadian
- 16:21institute for the Blind and the Social Work department.
- 16:24And then I started applying for programs outside of that, and I got accepted into
- 16:29everything I applied to, and I college first, and I did university second.
- 16:34So, again, the the self disciplined I learned and adopted, and it became habit forming as a
- 16:40competitive swimmer, got integrated into every aspect of my life going forward, especially
- 16:45knowing I had to be financially self sufficient.
- 16:49I had to make sure that I got myself to classes that tuition was paid every, every semester it
- 16:54needed to be paid for.
- 16:57And I couldn't use the excuse of, well, I'm so busy, and I'm I'm a student.
- 17:01I'm a full time student.
- 17:03Well, I still gotta commit to doing shifts.
- 17:05You know, I was work I was doing all kinds of shifts.
- 17:08I was doing overnight shifts.
- 17:09I was working with kids in group homes and foster homes at the time.
- 17:12And then once I actually got into the field, I scaled very quickly and became the highest
- 17:18position I left prior to departing social services and and choosing to become a stay at
- 17:23home, and then eventually single mom, with director of women's shelters.
- 17:27So women and children fleeing domestic violence.
- 17:30And that's when I lived out west, and I did have managerial experience here in Ontario.
- 17:34And as a result of my divorce, I brought my kids who were then three eighteen months old
- 17:39who were born in Alberta transplanted myself back in Dundas where I live.
- 17:44Did it with minimal infrastructure of family support, but certainly had more than what I had
- 17:48out west.
- 17:49And, and I I was catapulted into single parenthood very quickly, as a result of my ex
- 17:56husband, who was also a careerist.
- 17:59He was an engineer, and in order to expedite us getting back here, to Ontario.
- 18:04He took a job with the sister company of where he was working at West, which placed him on a 3
- 18:09year contract in Madagascar Africa.
- 18:12And it was 6 weeks out 10 days back.
- 18:15So again, fortunately for me, having always been comfortable in my own skin and always
- 18:21feeling like I was a leader in my own life, I thought I can do this.
- 18:26You know, I've been on my own since teen.
- 18:28I've been paying my own bills.
- 18:29I've been making my own decisions with very little guidance outside of me later in life
- 18:34seeking out specific mentors for myself.
- 18:36And aligning with yummy people such as yourself Roxanne.
- 18:40But you know what?
- 18:41You just you just you gotta do it.
- 18:42You just, you know, you you just gotta step into it.
- 18:45And I really believe, you know, regardless of religious beliefs or spiritual beliefs, and I'm
- 18:51very much a spiritual person, You know, I don't know what is on the other side.
- 18:55I have to be focused on the here and now.
- 18:57And in the tangible sense of what I understand life to be, and having attended enough funerals
- 19:03to know, okay, somebody's physical body is no longer here, regardless of what happens with
- 19:08their spirit, I've got one crack at this, and I, I do care about things like legacy.
- 19:14I've got a son and daughter.
- 19:15I wanna leave things behind.
- 19:18So it's it what I hear, vitally important is, and and, I mean, you've been through trauma.
- 19:23And what we know what trauma is, Trump is like the heavy blanket that, you know, weighs you
- 19:27down.
- 19:28So you have to do something different with it on a continual basis.
- 19:31Because what we know at 60,000 thoughts a day,
- 19:35you know, when
- 19:35people say to you, I don't have a negative thought.
- 19:37I I don't I don't think they're telling you the truth.
- 19:40It's not the truth.
- 19:41Yeah.
- 19:41It's you do with it, often enough and rituals, like, you know, so, like, don't, you know,
- 19:47oftentimes with some of my clients, they would go get up and watch the news.
- 19:51And, and then, of course, what's on the news?
- 19:53You know, it's everything horrible in the world.
- 19:54They're not talking about, you know, nice stories or, or, or flowers or things all over
- 20:00the world that are beautiful and precious, and then we wane and we wane and we wane.
- 20:04And then that further reinforces that concept.
- 20:07You see the world's a bad place.
- 20:08And then when you get into that trajectory of, here we go again, that's another validating
- 20:13factor And then before you know it, you maybe haven't gotten out your pajamas, and then you
- 20:17maybe haven't left the house, or you maybe haven't brushed your hair kind of thing.
- 20:20And then it it kind of fosters that whole for me kind of syndrome.
- 20:24So I'm not saying that trauma survivors don't they've been they've been through horrible
- 20:28things.
- 20:29As we could see in the world like you said, like yourself is a perfect exam, myself being
- 20:34being go through stuff as a child, you know, you know, where I saw uncertainty, it's really
- 20:39about what you do with what you have at the end of the day because you are not defined by your
- 20:44past.
- 20:45No.
- 20:46You are
- 20:46all you have is right here right now.
- 20:48And if you're rappel back to the past, which or brain does to protect us naturally or repelled
- 20:54into the future, which is fear, then you're constantly in that state.
- 20:58Of angst versus just being present.
- 21:00And when you say that, it becomes like a concept, but really, that's what you're talking
- 21:04about.
- 21:04It's about feeling your, you know, feeling your blood pumping, you know, talking to yourself
- 21:09better, being kind, being gentle, and giving yourself that self love, that oftentimes, maybe
- 21:14a lot of people didn't really receive or maybe didn't receive the ideal kind of situation
- 21:19going up, which takes a lot of repetition
- 21:22Yes.
- 21:24Absolutely.
- 21:24And and I didn't really quite fully answer your initial question there.
- 21:28So terms of what my rituals are, and this is what I impart and share with my mentoring
- 21:33clients as well.
- 21:33Cause if it works for me and they sought me out as a result of what they see manifesting in my
- 21:39own life.
- 21:40Of course, I'm gonna share that.
- 21:41It's important that we share the wealth.
- 21:44So for me, 3 hours before I go to bed every night, I fall asleep to, inspirational, YouTube
- 21:51videos.
- 21:51So, you know, Les Brown, Tony Robbins, over win free.
- 21:54And I I pick the ones that are at least a couple of hours long.
- 21:57And if it means I have to then pick another one, but 3 hours typically.
- 22:00So I fall asleep to this, and this is what my DNA, my electrons soaks up, because as you
- 22:08said, and you raised a very valid point, I am a very positive person.
- 22:13But, yes, negative thoughts will filter through, but I recalibrate very quickly because
- 22:18I'm conscious enough to know that that's what's happening, and I don't give myself permission
- 22:23to stay stuck in that.
- 22:24I don't give myself permission to turn that over and let that to find my day or my mood or
- 22:30my interaction or my exchange with somebody, I take massive responsibility for switching my
- 22:37thoughts and getting myself back on the path that serves me.
- 22:41So I listen to, like I said, I that's my ritual going to bed.
- 22:46I write my goals every day.
- 22:48And, yes, some of them that are already been written out, that are, like, longer term plan
- 22:53goals, if if I've done something incrementally along the way, that makes maybe originally a 5
- 23:01year goal, still taking massive action on the long term goals.
- 23:05And I'm making the phone calls, and I'm putting in the leg work, and I'm doing the research
- 23:09then perhaps through my good habit, my habits, and my self discipline, my five year goal then
- 23:15becomes reduced to a three and a half year goal.
- 23:18But it doesn't mean that I'm negligent with the day to day goals, the weekly goals, the monthly
- 23:24goals, because for people like you and I who are banging out content all the time, whether
- 23:29it be as bloggers, knowing that we have to do prep work, and be effective with our time to,
- 23:36you know, meet the needs of what our clients who seek us out for and are entrusting their
- 23:42mindset and their heart, their soul, their spirit, their healing journey, and they're
- 23:46paying for it.
- 23:47So, I mean, I, you know, the more my roster goes up, the more people I have to do some
- 23:54background work on, yet still meet the deadlines for my blogging for Ariana
- 23:58Huffington, my weekly gas knowing that we're pretty savvy.
- 24:01My team and I with the ramping up and the marketing of each guest.
- 24:05So we do it on the Monday.
- 24:07We do it on the Friday.
- 24:08The morning before I quickly go live because I'm monetized now.
- 24:12So they're paying me money, good money to ensure that our graphics are good, the
- 24:18consistency of when we're ramped them up, where we're ramping them up, cross promoting is
- 24:22taking place.
- 24:23I'm still although I've got 2 sponsors right now, I'm looking for a total of 5.
- 24:28Sponsorship and ad sponsors takes a long time.
- 24:31So I'm doing that as well behind the scenes.
- 24:34I'm raising 2 children and doing as much as I can in between school hours, waking hours.
- 24:40So I have to be very committed to how I'm properly and effectively making every minute of
- 24:47every day count.
- 24:48And then, of course, when they're with their dad every other weekend, it's work.
- 24:52That's work.
- 24:53That's an entrepreneur.
- 24:54There's no 9 to 5.
- 24:55There's no clocking out.
- 24:56No complaining.
- 24:57I'd much rather be a slave to myself than someone else.
- 25:01So, you know, and, and it's it's it's served me well in terms of things like sick days, stat
- 25:07holidays, Christmas holidays, March break, you know, I can't imagine for all the time that the
- 25:13kids have been off school, whether it be because of the stat holiday calendar or because
- 25:17of illness, you know, if I had ever returned to the level of management that I was at, I
- 25:22wouldn't have been able to been effective leader because it would have been me calling in
- 25:26all the time to be the provider and the caregiver for my children.
- 25:29So, you know, you gotta and, of course, it was risky when I went through that reinvention
- 25:33process, you know, I'd I embarked upon becoming an entrepreneur when my mom died, when my
- 25:41grandma died, when I was, legally separated, legally separated, then turning into a divorce.
- 25:47My ex husband being in Madagascar Africa, Yeah.
- 25:52So, you know, some people would go, like, why are you such a glutton for punishment?
- 25:55Why when you're already going through an exorbitant amount of stress, and crisis, would
- 26:00you then decide to embark upon becoming an entrepreneur knowing what that entails and
- 26:04what's required if you're going to pull that off and be successful at it?
- 26:08It's like, well, because I have to garner an income.
- 26:10I, you know, and, I mean, the lawyers would have been quite fine.
- 26:14Had I gotten a part time job pouring coffee at Tim Hortton just to say that I was
- 26:18contributing, and no disrespect to anybody.
- 26:21We need everybody in every sector and every industry to do what they do for everything to
- 26:25run Bickety boo.
- 26:27But I, over the years, I've invested a lot of money into my personal development, my
- 26:31training, masterminds, workshops, mentors, coaches, there was no way I wasn't gonna take a
- 26:37look at a serious look at my transferable skills and go, okay.
- 26:40How can I work for myself but meet the needs of my children?
- 26:43And them, of course, being and always remaining the number one priority.
- 26:46So I just got clear.
- 26:48I got clear.
- 26:49I stepped into it.
- 26:50I took a risk.
- 26:51And I have been going like stank ever since.
- 26:54So and it's it's so inter interesting that a lot of times, and even my story at the time, I
- 26:59I walked away also ending my marriage, I did the same thing.
- 27:03I I didn't have a job.
- 27:04And, you know, and I thought, well, this is this is so not feeding my soul anymore.
- 27:10That I have to I have to clear my soul first of all, and then my friend said to me, you know,
- 27:15maybe you kinda could have thought this out.
- 27:17Maybe you could have waited a little bit and I said, that comes a point when the door goes
- 27:22down and you have to do something.
- 27:24And I, I remember clarity that day when I said, Okay.
- 27:27I'm out.
- 27:28And, you know, corporate consulting job, 6 figure income.
- 27:33I'm in this house alone thinking, okay.
- 27:35Now, what am I gonna Right?
- 27:37And then, like, you're right.
- 27:38It's kinda like I've gotta go through this dark tunnel, and I'm hoping to God there's light on
- 27:42the other side, but I know what I'm coming for from was, was not feeding my soul to be able to
- 27:47walk towards something different.
- 27:49And it's having that belief, yes, in yourself or, like, said in something bigger, then I'm
- 27:54gonna be okay because I've got it in there, even though I may not feel like it at that
- 27:59time, because I'm in pain.
- 28:00Mean, in dire straits, you know, I've got a young son.
- 28:03My son was 8, those types of things.
- 28:05And then what happens, you know, you, you connect.
- 28:08You connect.
- 28:09You have good friends.
- 28:10Is what resilience is about, and we know that from the research.
- 28:13It's about do I sit in a ball and and feel sorry for myself, or do I just throw myself a
- 28:18little party once a year get everybody together as often as I need to, to connect, to chat, to
- 28:24have chocolate, to have wine, to talk about, you know, your children, or, you know, those
- 28:29types of things.
- 28:29And then somewhere along there, you get through that time.
- 28:33Yes.
- 28:34Right?
- 28:34And it's about recognizing, like you said, it's It's an incremental bit, a bit at a time.
- 28:39And, okay, what can I do now?
- 28:41What can I do now?
- 28:42And sometimes it doesn't have to be a big vision other than I just don't wanna feel you
- 28:47know, as cruddy as I'm feeling today, so there must be something different.
- 28:51So when you kind of look at your goals, because I think that's important, You know, a lot of
- 28:56people, you know, they they plan goals and, you know, they it's it's kinda like, how do I get
- 29:01my vision?
- 29:03Like, you know, like you, like you, I I have a legacy in the world.
- 29:06I want to ensure that everybody in this world recognizes that they are not where him from.
- 29:11And pain does not define you.
- 29:13Pain is something that's there, but you can pass through it and really actualize who you
- 29:19need to be.
- 29:19That's that's what I hope to do with every, you know, women and child in the world because I
- 29:24know women you know, not that Mendo, but they are the concentric circles of the family, and
- 29:28also men, you know, to be able to help them.
- 29:30That's what I want.
- 29:31So that And so my son sees that, and he's a phenomenal young man in the world.
- 29:36When you plan your goals, right, or when you plan your goals, How do you do that?
- 29:41Do you do, like, okay, in the next 5 years, I'm going to be, you know, the number one blogger
- 29:47in the world.
- 29:48What what how do you define that?
- 29:49And then how do you break it down from 5 years or 3 years to 1 year to 6 months to, you know,
- 29:56every month to daily, because I think that's a good thing for people to know as they kind of
- 30:01walk through goals because, you know, everybody does the New Year Resolution and we know how
- 30:06far that gets, which is really following through.
- 30:09So I'm just curious about what you do.
- 30:11Well, I'll to your question, I'll get because people need to understand examples.
- 30:15People benefit from examples and storytelling.
- 30:18So two things that I can speak to with regards to that with long term goals.
- 30:23So one, going back to what I said about, you know, my my children and I, we transplanted
- 30:29back here in Ontario, as a result of the separation going into divorce.
- 30:33That was 2011, bought this house, did the house hunting on my own, got the house, about 2 weeks
- 30:41after I got the house, that's when their father moved to Madagascar.
- 30:45I knew that there wasn't going to it was gonna take It was gonna take about 4, 5 years in
- 30:53total with him having been on contract and then knowing when the contract ended, He would then
- 31:00need to transplant himself back here.
- 31:03He would have to find a new place to live.
- 31:05He would need to find a new job, and that was gonna take some time.
- 31:08So I was at that point already committed to, you know what?
- 31:13I don't know what the stability because this is what we talked about.
- 31:15For 5 years, we had lawyers appointments time he came back from Madagascar.
- 31:20And, you know, so it was like, okay.
- 31:23What's going to happen in 5 years with the status of the home?
- 31:27Is Lisa gonna be able to afford to do a buyout.
- 31:30Right?
- 31:31In my mind, and this was before I even embarked upon becoming entrepreneurial.
- 31:36It was probably like 6 months to a year before I got to that point of embarking upon becoming
- 31:41entrepreneurial, but this was something that the lawyers had already said, we need to start,
- 31:45you need to start thinking about this, Lisa.
- 31:47So the expectation was, you know, once my youngest started school full time.
- 31:52And, of course, my kids already having been young at that point, and they were 18 months
- 31:55apart.
- 31:57I thought, you know what?
- 31:58I know 5 years goes exceptionally fast.
- 32:00You don't need to tell me that.
- 32:02People think they've got lots of time.
- 32:03They can sit on things.
- 32:04They can I didn't have the luxury of going through what normal people would generally be
- 32:10entitled to as far as a grieving process or adapting to their new reality of being a true
- 32:14single parent, with very minimal infrastructure of support?
- 32:18I knew I had to get busy.
- 32:20I knew I had to get clear.
- 32:21I knew I had to figure this out very, very fast because I knew that 5 years was gonna come up
- 32:26very quick.
- 32:27I said to myself, I said to him, and I said this in in lawyer's meetings.
- 32:32I said, I don't know what the plan is yet.
- 32:35But there will never be a for sale sign on that property.
- 32:39I will be buying you out.
- 32:42These kids are not gonna go through transition again.
- 32:45This is the only home based on the age of this having happened that they have any recollection
- 32:49of.
- 32:49They didn't remember the home in Alberta because, again, my son was 3.
- 32:53My daughter was 18 months when we came to Ontario.
- 32:56And I said, I am not going through that.
- 32:58We've done a provincial move.
- 32:59They've had to say goodbye to their dad.
- 33:01To go to mass Madagascar.
- 33:04Everything's changed.
- 33:05I said, we are not going through that again.
- 33:07I don't care what it takes.
- 33:09I don't care what it looks like.
- 33:11That is not happening.
- 33:12So I had already made that very definitive, definitive, clear, not only within myself, but
- 33:18I spoke that out as my reality.
- 33:21I spoke it out to the, other parties who needed to be privy to this discussion, who needed to
- 33:26know what my thought process was.
- 33:28And so, of course, within that 5 year span of still being lawyered up and still having to
- 33:33come to resolution and the contract having come to an end, and then it very much getting to the
- 33:37point of, it was 4 years.
- 33:40I asked for another year because I was already entrepreneur at that point.
- 33:42And I said, you know what?
- 33:43It's not unrealistic for a start up.
- 33:45For somebody to need, like, 2 or 3 years to figure this out.
- 33:49At this point, it had been 4.
- 33:50They wanted an answer at the 4 year mark.
- 33:52I said, no.
- 33:53I've I've for all the sacrifices that I've made and the position that I've been in and as, you
- 33:58know, and I would never begrudge having been a stay at home mom, because I wouldn't want it
- 34:03any differently, but I was fundamentally always a careerist.
- 34:06So because I chose to give my children the best upbringing possible, also in murky
- 34:11circumstances of major transition and me not having a lot of support, there has to be some
- 34:16flexibility with that.
- 34:17There has to be some, you know, there has to be some leeway with that because you've been
- 34:22climbing in your job in Madagascar making killer cash, and I've been raising your
- 34:27children.
- 34:29And we're amicable.
- 34:30So there's no facetiousness here.
- 34:32But it was like, no.
- 34:33I I walked out of my job, I walked out of promotions.
- 34:37I've walked out of salaries.
- 34:38I've walked out of all kinds of things.
- 34:41And I said, and I've made a very good go at this.
- 34:44I know where this is going.
- 34:46You owe me 1 more year.
- 34:48You owe me 1 more year before I can do that buyout.
- 34:51And I'm sitting there going, how the hell am I gonna do this?
- 34:53But I'm gonna do it.
- 34:54And so that 5th year mark came.
- 34:56That date was on the calendar 1 year in advance of having that discussion.
- 35:00And I'd met with my lawyer beforehand because she wanted prep with me before we had that,
- 35:05group collaborative meeting.
- 35:06And I said, yep, I can do this.
- 35:08And I was able to not only get my, you know, reclaim my home and it'd be my home and do the
- 35:15buyout, but I did it without a cosigner.
- 35:17And, Everybody was shocked.
- 35:20Everybody was shocked including myself, but, but see, this is the power of language.
- 35:24This is the power of mindset.
- 35:27It was more.
- 35:28It freaked me out more to envision what my children would go through with showings, a for
- 35:35sale sign, you know, still having to move, even if it was locally, but it was to something
- 35:39cheaper.
- 35:40You still gotta move house.
- 35:41You still gotta, you know, you gotta keep kids busy while you got real estate agents coming
- 35:45through, showing people their home.
- 35:47My kids wouldn't have understood it.
- 35:48It would have been a disaster.
- 35:50And so that thought made it non negotiable for me.
- 35:54It's like, that cannot happen at any cost.
- 35:57I need to make sure that my kids never see that situation.
- 36:01Come to the light of day.
- 36:03And so it made me work harder.
- 36:06It made me get more exceptionally clear.
- 36:08And I think as moms, you know, like that mama bear, that that whatever.
- 36:13I mean, there is nothing to me that's more intrinsically more materially that just takes
- 36:18over.
- 36:19You know, you hear about women lifting cars off their children or, you know, all these kinds of
- 36:23weird situations when they're, they're, you're faced with a crisis.
- 36:26Well, that was my crisis.
- 36:28I couldn't imagine my kids going through that emotionally.
- 36:32And if it was just me, I wouldn't care.
- 36:34Let go of the house, but this was their home.
- 36:36We laid down some roots.
- 36:37We got school around the corner.
- 36:39I built up an infrastructure of support.
- 36:41I was not gonna put myself through the the kids unnecessary upheaval.
- 36:46So that was a 5 year plan.
- 36:48I didn't know where I was going at the beginning of that, but it was just it was
- 36:51nonnegotiable.
- 36:53So when I saw when I envisioned that 5 year goal of no for sale sign, and I've played it
- 36:59over and over sitting in that lawyer's meeting.
- 37:02I can do the bio.
- 37:04I played that over and over.
- 37:06Not, oh my god.
- 37:07How am I gonna make this work?
- 37:08And, you know, no.
- 37:09It was like, nope.
- 37:11When I did my mind work, when I got very clear.
- 37:14It was everything that I played over in my mind.
- 37:17It was the end result of what I was aspiring to achieve.
- 37:21It was being able to look the lawyers in the face and my ex husband and say, yep, I did
- 37:26this, and I did it on my own.
- 37:29And that's what I focused on.
- 37:30That's what I focused on.
- 37:32You had a pinpoint and vision Yes.
- 37:34At the end of the day, and I think that's the important thing.
- 37:36And I oftentimes, people set goals and they don't hook it to what's emo what's important to
- 37:45them.
- 37:45Yes.
- 37:46That's the pebble and the rough here that I'm pulling out, because oftentimes people will
- 37:50say, you know, I want this massive career, but they don't realize they're gonna be in a train
- 37:54playing an automobile away from the people they love, the people, the reason they're doing it.
- 37:58So I think betting goals like you did and being so pointed to come by vision.
- 38:04And then from there, what you're saying that everything kinda things started to kinda morph
- 38:08out of that.
- 38:09Is that what you're saying?
- 38:10Yes.
- 38:11So example number 2, and I'll be very quick about this.
- 38:14So example number 2, so I've been doing radio podcasting for 3 years.
- 38:18Celebrated my 3 year anniversary yesterday.
- 38:22Thank
- 38:22you.
- 38:22I appreciate that.
- 38:24And so I knew that this had to become part of my business model.
- 38:29And I knew I was relatively new.
- 38:30I was I wasn't new to being in the media because, of course, this I was always the
- 38:34spokesperson for the agency that I represented or client demographic that I represented.
- 38:39So, you know, when it was women's day or if it was cert something on the calendar and it was a
- 38:44news event, local news.
- 38:46I was always in the paper.
- 38:47I was always taking the mic and stuff like that.
- 38:49So again, these are transferable skills.
- 38:50I've always been very comfortable with public speaking.
- 38:53I've always been comfortable talking about things again that I am impassioned by,
- 38:57particularly when it comes from a pay it forward via service, you know, help the
- 39:01collective, help the masses.
- 39:04So when I got sought out for radio 3 years ago by the contact Talk Radio Network, Cameron
- 39:09Steele, the network owner, and I'm now with 2 global network C suite.
- 39:13Radio network in New York and Jeffrey Hazlett.
- 39:15He is the co founder CEO of that.
- 39:17So double platform, but I knew I knew even when it came to, okay.
- 39:23You know, this is a weekly gig.
- 39:24I need to find guests.
- 39:26You know, there's a lot of work that's involved in that.
- 39:28I need to build up a social media footprint that for anybody who big I'm going after,
- 39:33they're gonna do their homework and go, okay, who's this girl?
- 39:36And, you know, what kind of followership does she have, behind her?
- 39:40How serious is she?
- 39:42So, you know, I took a look at who I wanted my guest roster to consist of.
- 39:47And I've I've I've interviewed people who have notable household names and people who don't
- 39:54but they're all equally stellar in their own right and bring something to my loyal listeners
- 39:59and my podcast subscribers.
- 40:01And so I thought okay.
- 40:03Well, who would I want to be on my show?
- 40:05You know, this is all about consciousness and action.
- 40:07This is all about personal empowerment.
- 40:09You know, who are the people that have resonate with me in my journey who have I spunched up in
- 40:13the personal development world for decades of belonging to it long before it became buzzword
- 40:19or trendy or cool or Whatever.
- 40:22When you're in social services, you're very much immersed in the personal development
- 40:25world.
- 40:26And so I thought, okay.
- 40:27You know, Deepak Chopra, He I resonated with him.
- 40:31God Deepak Chopra took me a year and only got a 20 minute interview out of my 55 minute time
- 40:37slot.
- 40:38But I got Deepak Chopra.
- 40:39When after Lisa Gibbons, David Suzuki, all kinds of people in their in different realms of
- 40:46of what they're good at and would be considered like a a top tier expert or a thought leader.
- 40:52I went after these people, and it's consistently, I'm doing it one right after
- 40:55another, which has increased my stats, my visibility, my podcast subscribers.
- 41:01I'm now sitting at over half a million podcast subscribers, which I'm very grateful for.
- 41:06And, I'm oversubscribed now, and I'm looking to expand my show to twice a week.
- 41:12But again, when I started out, I was no one.
- 41:15And I didn't know who was gonna take me seriously, and I didn't know who was gonna say
- 41:18yes in terms of the top tier guests being sought I sought out to appear as a guest on my
- 41:23radio show.
- 41:24And then, you know, once you get the first one, then it's easier to sell for the second time
- 41:29for the big person, the big person.
- 41:31You keep going.
- 41:31You keep going.
- 41:32And I thought, you know what?
- 41:33I'm gonna take this to the level where I can be one of those very few podcasters in this world
- 41:39because we're an oversubscribed oversaturated industry.
- 41:43And people say all the time, I mean, Howard Stern has set it down on his podcast.
- 41:47You know, it's virtually impossible to monetize But, again, I don't take those limitations.
- 41:53I mean, the only person who's gonna place limits on me is me, and I'm not gonna place
- 41:58limits on myself.
- 41:59I don't even say sky is the limit.
- 42:01I say beyond the sky is the limit.
- 42:03I'm not holding myself back.
- 42:05I don't allow other people to hold myself back.
- 42:07I'm very good at tuning out the naysayers, the critics, the whatever.
- 42:10I am so laser focused on what I'm doing.
- 42:13So for the for two and a half years, people would get showcased for free.
- 42:18The last 6 months last year or so, I have turned it into now it's pay to play.
- 42:24Because people need to start, and this is how I explain it.
- 42:28To p some people go some peep most people get it.
- 42:30They understand the rate of investment.
- 42:32They understand the rate of return.
- 42:34They understand that they wanna take their product, their voice, their message, their
- 42:38brand, their book, their whatever.
- 42:40And the whole point of media is to garner, the largest possible audience that you can.
- 42:47You wanna get more impact.
- 42:48You wanna get more people following you.
- 42:49You wanna increase your bottom line.
- 42:52And so I say to people, look, I'm connected with 2 global networks now.
- 42:59Combined listenership hovers anywhere between 4 to 8,000,000 were heard in a 100 and 45
- 43:04countries, 220 TV radio terrestrial satellites, and the potential for millions of iTunes
- 43:09downloads.
- 43:10We do my graph my team.
- 43:12We do graphics.
- 43:13We embed the the pictures that you would want showcased.
- 43:16We do it 3 days a week.
- 43:17We do it all over my social media, every social media platform I have.
- 43:21If we're attached somehow, I tag you, cross promote you, I have, like, over a hundred
- 43:26thousand people between my social media sites.
- 43:29So just from out of the gate before we even go live, you know, they're getting major, major
- 43:35promotion.
- 43:36And the more people find out who I'm interviewing, and it's a guest that perhaps
- 43:40resonates with them, and then they listen to either the live show or the podcast, then it's
- 43:46like, okay, I wanna tune into this is great content.
- 43:49I wanna tune into this more consistently.
- 43:51And, so, yeah, so people understand this is a business model now.
- 43:57And, you know, it's it's it's no different than going to a gas station.
- 44:02You don't go to a gas station, fill up your vehicle and and not expect to pay.
- 44:06You don't go to the grocery store, fill up your cart, and wave to the cashier.
- 44:10See you later.
- 44:11I am providing a service.
- 44:12That would be a bit critical.
- 44:14So, really, it's about being pointed
- 44:17Yep.
- 44:17And following it.
- 44:18You may not know where you're gonna end up, but you have a vision.
- 44:21Yeah.
- 44:22You wanted to make a difference in your children.
- 44:24You wanted your children to be safe and secure or Yes.
- 44:27Wanted to create a legacy.
- 44:28And out of that came all these amazing things.
- 44:31With a lot of hard work, though.
- 44:34A lot
- 44:34of hard work, but it also goes down to the core fundamental ingredient, which anybody who I've
- 44:39showcased, anybody I've interviewed, anyone who's my mentor, even yourself, Roxanne, you
- 44:44know this.
- 44:45You have to fundamentally believe in yourself.
- 44:48If you don't believe in yourself, no one else is gonna believe or buy into you.
- 44:52You've got to be your number one fan and people think, oh my god.
- 44:56That's so narcissistic.
- 44:57That's so egoic.
- 44:58It's, no, it's not.
- 45:00Itself love.
- 45:02You know, why would I love you more than I love myself?
- 45:07Why would I see my self as a secondary class citizen, why do I think you deserve happiness
- 45:11in abundance?
- 45:12And I don't.
- 45:13Why would I bra you and go, good on you, Roxanne?
- 45:17I mean, boom.
- 45:18You've done this.
- 45:19Boom.
- 45:19You've done that.
- 45:19And then when I look at my own accomplishments and poo poo it.
- 45:23Oh, it's not a big deal.
- 45:24Yeah.
- 45:25It is a big deal because I know the blood sweat and tears that have gone into making that
- 45:30happen.
- 45:30And then for people who think from a marketing perspective or an optics perspective or a
- 45:35social media perspective, that everything that I ramp up, like, oh, I've interfaced with this
- 45:40person or this is who I'm showcasing or, you know, I've just put out my 4th children's book
- 45:44or I've got a book signing or I've got I spoke at Harvard a year and a half ago, whatever the
- 45:48case may be, people think, oh my god.
- 45:50Like, this person's just so lucky.
- 45:52There's absolutely nothing to do.
- 45:54It's nothing to do with luck.
- 45:56You know, I could tell you all the rejections I get as compared to the bull's eye.
- 46:01I can tell you about all the things that have gone awry or fallen apart as compared to the
- 46:06things that seemingly look effortless and like, wow, like, this keeps materializing for her,
- 46:12you know, but I, I, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna take my, my failures and my flops to
- 46:17social media.
- 46:18I don't mind talking about it from a vulnerability standpoint and authentic
- 46:21standpoint in an interview like this, but so media.
- 46:24It's a visionary board for me.
- 46:26I use social media.
- 46:28I put it out there as an accountability piece.
- 46:30It's not enough just for me to write my sticky notes and my my goal sheets and my journaling
- 46:35and my self proclamations and my rituals.
- 46:37I want the people who I'm expecting and graciously requesting and hoping buy in to me,
- 46:43whether it be tuning into my podcast or buying my books or attending my speaking engagement or
- 46:48wanting to collaborate or or with me in some capacity, I want people twofold.
- 46:53I want people to see, yes, I don't just hold myself accountable.
- 46:58Publicly, because I'm a public figure as are you, I am hold I'm allowing you to hold me
- 47:04accountable.
- 47:05So if I'm falling short, take me to task.
- 47:09I mean, likely, I'm not gonna put myself in a position of humiliation like that.
- 47:13And something doesn't, occur in the way I've been led to believe, because third party people
- 47:18will disappoint you and drop the ball, not necessarily because I did, and I don't out
- 47:22people, and I don't you know, defame people or humiliate people, but I put it out there as a 3
- 47:28d visionary board.
- 47:29Secondly, as a result of saying I'm holding on to my house on Facebook as a result of saying
- 47:35I'm going to be an entrepreneur, even though my mom and my grandma just died and and my exes in
- 47:39Madagascar, and I'm a single parent to 2 young kids, you know, the amount of people through
- 47:45seeing my momentum and growth, more importantly, who have reached out to me Whether
- 47:50it's turned into a mentoring, coaching client relationship or it's just turned into a
- 47:56testimonial or feedback or whatever the case may be, privately and publicly.
- 48:01Lisa, as a result of you having the balls to do that, I looked at what everything I know your
- 48:08backstory to be, And I I said, I can't sit on the couch anymore.
- 48:12I can't feel sorry for myself.
- 48:13Look at what she's doing, and she's just this average woman from Dundas, Ontario, Canada, She
- 48:19she's amassed what she's amassed out of nothing because she saw it, and she went for it.
- 48:24And she didn't let anyone get in her way more so myself I didn't get my own way, I got very
- 48:29comfortable with being uncomfortable.
- 48:32These people have seen how possible this is because I've chosen to hold myself accountable
- 48:38on social media, they are now they're shifting in their life.
- 48:42They're they're walking into living fearlessly completely on their own now, as a result of
- 48:49seeing me as a living, breathing example, somebody who has walked the talk.
- 48:54So when I
- 48:55You're the role model.
- 48:56Yes.
- 48:57You have to live up to that role.
- 48:58You elevate that, sir, yourself to that.
- 49:00And obviously, I can see, you know, your passion because on the other end, it was it
- 49:05was, you know, you interviewing me, so I didn't see this, but I love it.
- 49:08I love it.
- 49:09And the enthusiasm and the fact that you wanna make a difference in the world, which is really
- 49:13what I wanna do too.
- 49:14Right?
- 49:14I mean
- 49:15You are.
- 49:15You are.
- 49:17Own it.
- 49:18Yes.
- 49:18Yes.
- 49:19For sure.
- 49:19For sure.
- 49:20So I, you know, you've really helped me understand your path, and I I know my listeners
- 49:26have gotten a phenomenal message out of this.
- 49:28If there's I wanna make sure that whoever wants to reach out to you wants to buy your book or
- 49:34what where do they find you?
- 49:36I appreciate that.
- 49:37So the best, place to connect with me because all my suite of services are there.
- 49:42My contact information is there.
