- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Tristan, tell your grandkids about a three-in-o Texas Tech football team.
- 0:54SPEAKER_06: Well, we got way too much energy going on for a Texas Tech fan.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: We got a first quarter to get through where we just we're slow as hell.
- 1:00SPEAKER_06: And uh I'll give you some I'll give you some action in a moment.
- 1:03SPEAKER_06: We just you just gotta scare me for a bit, okay?
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: In true Texas Tech Forum, we should start this podcast much slower, much you know, more relaxed, take it easy.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: But no, dude, I'm hyped.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: We just we're three and oh now now we're getting the energy going.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Now you have to play the song.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: We're playing the song.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Red Raider comes with a few real.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Texas and Red Raiders right again.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: They actually deserved it this time.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: They didn't really deserve it last week, but they definitely deserved the song this week.
- 1:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, though that was not a timid play the song, that was a full force.
- 1:53SPEAKER_06: Tell your kids about an undefeated Texas tech team, red raider coming at you, because that's where we're at, ladies and gentlemen.
- 2:00SPEAKER_06: We are three and oh, we are receiving AP votes, we're getting love and all the nerd analytics that I don't understand.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: It's a good time.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: It's a great time to be a Red Raider football fan.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: This is uh it's been a long time since we've been able to say that.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: But uh, yeah, we defeat the uh Florida International University Panthers 54 to 21.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, after a slow start, like you did mention in that first quarter.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: We took off there in the second and uh didn't look back.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: It was a really strong uh effort for the Red Raiders and a really good game for Matt Wells and Co.
- 2:37SPEAKER_06: I guess we decided we're a good team in the second quarter because we just kind of you know ended any sense of hope they ever could have found in their lives.
- 2:45SPEAKER_06: My god, that second quarter was just an absolute ass beating.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, four touchdowns in total for the Red Raiders in just the second quarter alone.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: After a 7-7, it was tied seven seven after the first quarter, and we're all freaking out, of course.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, there's no reactions.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: Here we go.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech's gonna suck again.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: We only beat Stephen F.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: Austin by six.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: Now we're tied with Florida International after the first, and then Tyler Shuck and Matt Wells and Sonny Comby just said, everybody can just shut the hell up right now.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: We're gonna score four touchdowns in the second quarter and just roll them from there on.
- 3:19SPEAKER_06: And Tyler Shuck was like, I'm just gonna shuck it, baby.
- 3:22SPEAKER_06: This is this is my time.
- 3:24SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna play out of my minds.
- 3:26SPEAKER_06: He nearly breaks his personal record.
- 3:29SPEAKER_06: Um, just a great showing, and it's a perfect time for the uh these players to be starting to fire off because we have the biggest game of the season coming up this Saturday.
- 3:37SPEAKER_06: Uh, every single year it is.
- 3:39SPEAKER_06: And if we get this next one, we can be in for a huge season.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: I'm glad you brought that up because we are doing something a little different this week on Talking Tech Pod.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: We're gonna give you two episodes, and we normally just do the one, knock it all out in one.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: But we have a surprise guest coming.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: So that episode will come to you probably Thursday.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: This one you will be listening to.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, we'll release it probably on Tuesday.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: So um, yeah, we're really excited.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: We're gonna talk more about the UT game in the next episode.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: So the one that's releasing on Thursday will get you all that UT stuff going.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: We have a special guest coming on, a UT guest.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you know, we're excited.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, uh, we're just giving you a lot of Texas Tech talking tech content this week.
- 4:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, today we're just taking it all in.
- 4:29SPEAKER_06: We're just taking in that phenomenal victory over a staunch opponent out of the Gulf Coast area, just an absolute fierce out-of-conference rival to get us going for the Big 12 conference schedule here.
- 4:41SPEAKER_06: So uh let's just let's take it in, let's break it down.
- 4:44SPEAKER_06: What did we like to see against them Panthers, Steven?
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: I tell you what, my favorite thing I saw out of this game was the Texas Tech is now tight end university.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, we have we have tight ends and we are using tight ends, three touchdowns in total from our tight ends.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: I don't know, I've never seen this before.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: I I I don't know how to react to tight ends, but it was amazing to see these big dudes get in the end zone, get some points on the board.
- 5:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's so hard to tell the difference between Tharp and Koontz on the field because they like their statures are identical.
- 5:18SPEAKER_06: So it's like, is that Tharp or Koontz?
- 5:20SPEAKER_06: But both of them were in the top four receiving um for the game.
- 5:24SPEAKER_06: So that's really cool to see.
- 5:26SPEAKER_06: Very uncommon, but it's it's nice.
- 5:27SPEAKER_06: I mean, these guys tower over anyone that that's that's put on to defend them.
- 5:31SPEAKER_06: So they might we better just yeet it to them because they're probably gonna catch this stuff.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: You could see Tyler Shuck was looking for them all game.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, Travis Koontz with six catches, 53 yards and two touchdowns.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: Mason Tharp got in there, true freshman, six foot nine, massive human being, three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and and really just the the fact that we're finding and having these massive targets on the field is really encouraging going forward because uh, like we we were complaining about on last week's episode, was we weren't getting it to anybody not named Eric Ezukama on the offensive side of the field.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: And we had, I believe, 11 different uh receivers that caught a ball this game.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: So that was it's like Tyler Shuck and Matt Wells just heard the talking tech podcast and said, Hey, we're gonna completely blow your mind this game and throw it to everybody.
- 6:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, not just not only did they get it to 11 whole players, five of them did had more yards than Eric Ezukama.
- 6:36SPEAKER_06: So they really, really worked out the plays.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: It was not just the easy day, even though he'll still great.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: Um, it was just awesome to see us really share the ball around and see what kind of talent we have on the field, otherwise, because this before the season started, we were saying that this is an incredibly talented team, and it's finally time we start to see it that it's not just Tyler Shuck and Eric Ezukama, that he can pass it to other players, and those players can make big plays.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, Caitlin Geiger had a coming out party, six catches, 121 yards.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: Um, he was fantastic.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: He uh he really showed uh that hype that was coming out of Troy and coming into Texas Tech that we were all hoping for with Calen Geiger.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: He was massive this game.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Um, Dalton Rigdon caught a long pass that almost took off for a touchdown.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: Uh Trey Cleveland had that insane catch in the back of the end zone for the touchdown that he was getting held the entire time down, still came down with the ball.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: Um, and really all the receivers played well this game.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm very happy and excited to see how they move the rest of the season forward with this receiving core.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: But uh Tyler Shuck was absolutely on point with all of these receivers.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: His long ball looked absolutely fantastic.
- 7:47SPEAKER_06: 100%.
- 7:48SPEAKER_06: Um, so that kind of brings the question is is Sonny Cumby opening up the playbook a little more before we get to UT here?
- 7:54SPEAKER_06: Do you think he's trying to practice these new plays uh against a lower competition, kind of getting a feel of what we can expect out of these players in game time situations?
- 8:02SPEAKER_06: Do you think we're starting to see more and more creativity come out of that side of the coaching staff before we see UT?
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean we talked about this off of the off the pod um about it.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Maybe Sonny Cumbee is holding back on his playbook with these early games and these early opponents.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: I think he really did that in the Stephen F.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Austin game.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: We didn't have a lot of time with the ball.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: That was something that we brought up.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: The our our time of possession was really bad in the first two games against Houston and SFA.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, this time we actually led in time of possession against Florida International.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: We kind of saw what we can do when we have the ball on offense.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: So um I think Sonny Cumby did open up the playbook.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: I think he, you know, he didn't want to have another tight win here.
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: He wanted to go and beat the breaks off of this team to get ready for UT, give us some confidence moving forward.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: I liked the the different the out routes, the tight end plays, the uh he was moving the ball all over the place, and it was really nice to see.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: And we didn't rely on just Eric Ezukama, which was really cool to see.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I hope he still got some of those tricks up his sleeve for UT.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, we'll talk about that on uh the next episode.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, I was I was really happy with how he opened up the playbook, how we spread it around.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Tyler Shuck was looking all over the place.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: He looked much more comfortable in the pocket uh than he did against Stephen F.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Austin.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: And uh it was just really good.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: It was it was really good, all around effort from the offense.
- 9:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm glad that we're applauding the offense today because the past few games or the past two, there's only been another two, uh, have been all about us saying that how impressed we are with how far the defense has come under the Wells regime.
- 9:34SPEAKER_06: Um, and they they did it the same thing uh in this game as well.
- 9:38SPEAKER_06: They played really well as again.
- 9:39SPEAKER_06: We'll take 21 points all day against an opposing team.
- 9:42SPEAKER_06: Um, but the offense made it a statement win.
- 9:45SPEAKER_06: Before it hasn't really been a statement win until this one, with how much we just lit up the scoreboard.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: Um, so it really helps the confidence in the team, helps the confidence of the fans because I bet a lot of us were much more confident buying a UT ticket uh this week than we were before.
- 10:00SPEAKER_06: Um, so it's just gonna be a little more exciting game to be prepared for.
- 10:04SPEAKER_06: Um, so it it's a great win, great, great job on the offense.
- 10:08SPEAKER_06: What about the defense, man?
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Like, like I was just saying, you know, they didn't slouch it either.
- 10:12SPEAKER_06: I mean, Muddy Waters is a freaking animal.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he did, and that's what we were all expecting.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Him coming out of Duke.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: Same thing with a lot of these transfers where he's a fifth-year senior coming in using, I think he's using his COVID year.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Um, coming in uh four-year starter at Duke, and he hasn't really made a lot of noise in the first two games.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: And he comes out with that pick six uh to tie up the game after Florida International took the lead uh early.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: So I really enjoyed seeing that after a very uh lulling start to say the least for Texas Tech.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, at first, you know, I was banging my head against the nearest hard surface, and then Muddy Waters snatched that and said, We're going undefeated, national championship.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: So it's it was great, great for him to uh wait.
- 10:54SPEAKER_06: It was great for him to inject some energy into the game for all of us.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: Uh it's just it's so fun watching a DB out of everything uh do that for us, just something we're not used to as fans.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think the DBs overall played pretty solid.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: There were some missed tackles uh in this game.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: Uh they had they had some big plays that they took off for as well.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, I know Reggie Pearson missed a big tackle uh there on that on that big touchdown uh pass from Florida International.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: But um I overall they played solid.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: Ray Shad Williams had a great game as well over there at the cornerback position.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: Demarcus Fields had a really good game, almost had that pick.
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, I was I was really happy with the way the defensive backs played overall.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: Uh it's nice to see that against inferior competition.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: We do have to kind of step back and remind ourselves this was Florida International.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: They're not very good, but you know, they did take care of business.
- 11:47SPEAKER_06: Look, whoever you're playing up against a quarterback named Max Bortenschlager, you know you gotta bring your A game because that is an elite name for the elite quarterback.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: Hey man, the the B Schlag did not have a great night, uh, and that was good to see.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: You know, as much as we like the B Schlag, uh, it was good to see him not have a uh a great time in Lubbock.
- 12:08SPEAKER_06: Look, I I'm sorry that he had a tough time in the Jones, but he's got the B Schlag has two huge fans from the Lone Star State now.
- 12:16SPEAKER_06: We will be following the B Schlag with great interest.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: But back back to the defense.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: Okay, we gotta we gotta stop talking about Max Bordenschlager here for a second.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: Um back to the defense.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: The most impressive part and has been the most impressive part of the defense since the Houston game is the run defense.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: We are doing really good stopping these running backs.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: They kind of got it going a little early, but their star running back, Devontae Price, uh held to 3.4 yards a carry, which he I think he was averaging some stupid like nine yards a carry before this game.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: So we really made sure that stopped our nose tackles, Jalen Hutchings uh and Tony Bradford were fantastic.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Devin Drew got in there uh for a lot of big plays.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Uh just solid from our defensive line.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: I've really been happy.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: They have been the most consistent group uh on the defense this year, maybe besides the linebackers.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: Linebackers are always, you know, we expected them to be good, but we were really it was a little questionable on the defensive line, and they've really held their own so far.
- 13:18SPEAKER_06: No, it's it's great to see us win in the trenches because uh that's where a lot of teams will try to get their game going in the running part.
- 13:23SPEAKER_06: If you can control the running game, can control a lot of things within the in the within the game.
- 13:27SPEAKER_06: So I'm really happy about that, man.
- 13:28SPEAKER_06: It's it's good to see, even if it's against a team like Florida International, it's gonna be nice to see that compare up with the UTs because UT likes to rely on the running game as well with some of the star quarterback uh running backs they have.
- 13:38SPEAKER_06: So that's gonna really come into play, I think, next weekend.
- 13:41SPEAKER_06: So it's just kind of like maybe hopefully a bit of a preview, you know, to see like if this is gonna be kind of the performance we see out of us against some real superstar running backs.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean we'll bring this up again when we when we do preview the UT game on the next episode.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: But our that was a big part of Arkansas beating the brakes off UT was they slowed down B.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: John Robinson, and uh he's gonna be our first real test, uh, you know, really good elite running back that we're playing against this season.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: So that's gonna be a fun matchup to watch.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, man, I mean, uh just some more things on this uh just on Texas Tech 31 first downs this entire game.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: Uh we held the ball, we had the ball uh on offense for the most part.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: That was really nice to see after two games where I think we had the ball for only 19 total minutes in the Stephen F.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: Austin game, and it was pretty similar in the Houston game as well.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, so love to see that we're getting a lot of first downs.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: We're we're maintaining possession.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Um uh there were some bad things uh for this team that we do have to talk about as well.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: Uh penalties, penalties were rough, nine penalties for 75 total yards, gotta clean that up for UT and for the rest of the Big 12 going forward because uh it's just a killer, man.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, especially on these defensive possessions, if you're caught for holding or a late hit or whatever on uh on the quarterback, it's just it's tough to recover from those, and it really brings the morale of the whole team down.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: So uh gotta clean those up moving forward.
- 15:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, nothing will will deflate some self-esteem like getting making a huge play and it being completely wiped by really dumb penalty.
- 15:17SPEAKER_06: So we've we've seen that time and time again as tech fans, especially during the clip era.
- 15:21SPEAKER_06: So I do hope that we clear that up.
- 15:23SPEAKER_06: We do expect more out of this coaching staff with disciplining the the players to not make dumb mistakes like that.
- 15:28SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, it really it really seemed a little uh like exceptionally more than normal.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: Um, so hopefully this is an outlier, not really the the the norm for this team.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they're trying new things, they're getting stuff cleaned up.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: They opened up the offensive playbook, so you know, people are learning uh their switches and their you know, uh just all sorts of stuff on the offense.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: So um I gotta clean that up, but you know, it's it's something that's fixable, which is nice.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, and we limited turnovers.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: That was another that was another good thing about this game.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Uh Adrian Fry did have that uh muffed punt that was uh awful to see in the first quarter.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: We were all uh kind of like, okay, come on, these punts are just killing us.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: Uh McLean Mannix was out this game with an undisclosed injury.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: Um, so we don't really know what's going on there.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: But Adrian Fryer was returning punts, and it was his first punt that he gets that uh he really just made a dumb mistake.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: And when the ball has already bounced on the ground, you're running after it.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: I think he said in the postgame that uh or Matt Wells said in the postgame that Fry thought that the ball touched a teammate, and that's why he went after it so hard.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it did not, and he could not pick it up, and then Florida International recovered it.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: And so uh you can't make those mistakes again.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: They're they're special team stuff that we got to clean up big time, but um, that was the only turnover that we had, which was really nice.
- 16:51SPEAKER_06: Special team mistakes like that are backbreakers in big games.
- 16:55SPEAKER_06: The special teams can truly blow the game for you over something really stupid like that.
- 17:00SPEAKER_06: Um, so hopefully it was just a one mistake that he's learned from and it won't ever happen again.
- 17:04SPEAKER_06: Uh, because that's all you can hope for.
- 17:05SPEAKER_06: And if it's the only turnover, I think we'll take it right now.
- 17:08SPEAKER_06: So because that's something that can fix.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he was really good on the other punt returns right after that.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: He immediately cleaned it up and and got it going and actually got some return yards, which was nice to see.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: So, second half, I was not worried about special teams, which is uh fantastic.
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: Except for uh Jonathan Garabay Muppin' one extra point.
- 17:26SPEAKER_06: Like, what was that about?
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: He missed one.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: He everybody's gonna miss one every once in a while.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you get your one, you get your one, John.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: But you know, keep it.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: Let's let's clean that up too.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: But uh overall, overall, really good game.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: I was really happy, I was really satisfied with this game.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: Uh gave me confidence in this team that I did not have last week.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: So I'm hyped to see that.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: I'm hyped to see uh us get a get a good win, a big time win against an inferior opponent.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: We actually looked like a power five team playing a G5 team uh in the in the second half.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Well, really from the second quarter on.
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we turned we turned into second half U of H game much faster.
- 18:08SPEAKER_06: So it's good to see.
- 18:09SPEAKER_06: Uh let's just get it going immediately, please.
- 18:12SPEAKER_06: Um, but uh yeah, like you said, a great game.
- 18:14SPEAKER_06: And it was so nice to see uh Roddy back out there.
- 18:17SPEAKER_06: Sorotry Thompson did make his return for this game, and I'm glad they just kind of eased him in, like they didn't just shove him in there and get him to like do everything immediately.
- 18:25SPEAKER_06: Um, especially because Taj Brooks has had a great uh run this season.
- 18:29SPEAKER_06: Um, he definitely deserves the playing time he's getting.
- 18:31SPEAKER_06: So, but it'll be interesting to see how Sir Rodric takes on a better, bigger role, especially with the big game coming up.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, actually, Matt Wells said in the postgame that he wanted Sir Rodric to get more touches, but you know, as the game kind of got out of hand, you got to give those younger guys some more touches and some more looks that they won't, you know, guys like Cameron Valdez, who's probably not gonna see the field unless we just blow the brakes off another team here.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: So um, it was good to see Sir Rodric back and healthy.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: I know he took some hits on that shoulder that was hurt, so that was good that he's right back up and spry and everything.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: And he even got in for the uh the lone running back touchdown um of the day.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: Henry Columbi did run in one there at the end, but uh of all the running backs, Sir Roderick was the only one to score.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: So that was cool.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, good for him to see the end zone get some confidence moving forward for Texas, which is a huge game.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: So Roderick, of course, had a great game last year against Texas.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: Let's repeat that.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: A lot of players had a great game against Texas last year.
- 19:25SPEAKER_06: I don't know why we lost, but um, so but uh it was cool, also cool to see uh us throw in the uh uh backup quarterbacks during the garbage time.
- 19:35SPEAKER_06: Like I was really excited, I was really excited to see Hollywood Henry out there.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know why he had a great game, he had a great run.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, he only played one series, but he was really solid.
- 19:45SPEAKER_06: I mean, connected on everything, and then Donovan Smith getting out there, the Lubbock hero.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: It was it was just cool to see him out there getting his time because I we might be seeing a face like his more in the future.
- 19:55SPEAKER_06: We just we're not we just don't know yet.
- 19:57SPEAKER_06: So it's just it's cool seeing us mix in the players in our garbage time.
- 20:00SPEAKER_06: It's like the one fun part about garbage time.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: It's fun that there was garbage time, yes.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Yes, it was fun that we we weren't worrying come the fourth quarter like we were last week uh against a really bad team.
- 20:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it the entire game after say the first quarter should have been garbage time last week, but we made sure that was the case this game.
- 20:19SPEAKER_06: So then not not much to complain about.
- 20:21SPEAKER_06: Our boys played really well, so it's it's hard to criticize.
- 20:25SPEAKER_06: There's just a few little things you got to fix up.
- 20:27SPEAKER_06: Um, but if if we play like we did in this game, I feel good going to UT.
- 20:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: I I do have confidence in this team moving forward.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is what I wanted out of this game was a beatdown, uh, open up the playbook, get the get other receivers involved, and that's exactly what we did.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: Matt Wells did everything that I wanted to see in this Florida International game.
- 20:47SPEAKER_06: Are we paying Waka Flocka Flame to go to Austin this this weekend as the biggest Red Raider fan there is?
- 20:52SPEAKER_06: I mean, him on the sideline was a presence we needed.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech has been killing it with these with these performers and these people that they're getting to Lubbock for these pregame shows.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, Shaq, I Waka Flacca, they're getting all these guys.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know how they're gonna top that with the with the other games, but Texas Tech has been killing it, like we said last week, with performers coming, getting them to Lubbock, getting fans to the tailgate, which means they're gonna go into the game.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's great to see.
- 21:19SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: Uh, and and it'll get a little easier as conference plays comes to get people a little more excited.
- 21:24SPEAKER_06: And heck, if we keep winning, you don't even have to worry about it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: So I'm really excited.
- 21:28SPEAKER_06: It's really great to see that.
- 21:29SPEAKER_06: It's just fun to make the campus so fun on game day.
- 21:32SPEAKER_06: It's it's just great, it's been a great sequence of uh performers, that's for sure.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean, other thing that got the got the people there to the game was uh our our guy, Michael Crabtree and Elmer Tarbox were both inducted into the Ring of Honor officially for this game.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, really cool to see King Crab get on the field, uh, see him on ESPN Plus, even though he's, you know, Michael Crabtree.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Let's just say he's not he's not gonna be a commentator in the future.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: But uh it was great to see him.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Uh it was great to see uh you know him embrace, be at the signing event, and uh just be around Lovick again.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: It's it's always fun to see a guy who is such a big part of your football history come back, get his name up there.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: Uh it was it was awesome.
- 22:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's super cool to see him up there on the wall.
- 22:19SPEAKER_06: Uh, probably the most legendary guy up there in most people's eyes.
- 22:23SPEAKER_06: So it's just cool to see us really solidify his mythios into the legends of Texas Tech Forever up there.
- 22:30SPEAKER_06: So it it's he's King Crab.
- 22:32SPEAKER_06: I mean, come on, man.
- 22:33SPEAKER_06: And like he said, ESPN was trying so hard with him up in the in the in the box, but man, he he yeah, maybe maybe commentating's on his thing.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: Well, first off, Brandon Jacobs, man.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: They've he's been commentating the last two games for Texas Tech, he's just not good, and you know, it's not like I I hate to just crap on a guy, but it he's really just not a he doesn't have a good voice for it, he doesn't get excited, he's just like you know, he's got this super deep voice, just kind of yeah, they're doing the he doesn't give much analysis.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then they had him and crabtree, and they actually played together, and they just didn't get a real flow going during the whole interview, and it was just kind of like, okay, let's let's wrap this up, guys.
- 23:17SPEAKER_06: And they spelled Brandon's name wrong at the beginning, too.
- 23:20SPEAKER_06: It was like Brand, it was like Bradnon or something, something like that.
- 23:24SPEAKER_06: It was like this is the most ESPN plus thing I've ever seen, but I think I just can't get excited, like oh, big play.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: That was a good move.
- 23:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, it's not like oh, he's breaking away, he can go all the way.
- 23:41SPEAKER_04: No, it's nothing like that.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: Like Raiders, touchdown, Texas Tech.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Cool, yeah.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, the entire ESPN Plus broadcast was kind of brutal.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: The instant replay thing, they gotta figure that out because they're going, they're cutting to it really late, and then they're missing the next play.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: They have the scoreboard like almost right directly in the middle of the screen.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: They just they have some.
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: I know it's ESPN Plus, but come on.
- 24:07SPEAKER_06: I I hope it's the last one of the year, except for maybe Kansas for it, please.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: I hope so.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: We're we're not gonna be on ESPN Plus at least for the next two weeks.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: I think we are on ESPN 2 for the West Virginia game and then ABC for the Texas game uh next week.
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: So uh hyped to not have to log on to ESPN Plus again.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, we won't have to do it until basketball season.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, man, uh great game overall.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: Any last thoughts on Florida International?
- 24:34SPEAKER_06: No, just what a great game uh from our boys, and I it just gets me hype for this weekend.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, gives me a whole lot more confidence, but I was mad after the Stephen F.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Austin game, as you as you know, y'all could tell in the in the last episode.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: But I am now much more happy, much more excited.
- 24:53SPEAKER_06: Hey, I called this by the way, I totally called this.
- 24:56SPEAKER_06: I said, no, next game, we're gonna blow the brakes off of uh the Florida uh International Panthers.
- 25:00SPEAKER_06: And I I said Stephen F.
- 25:02SPEAKER_06: Austin could actually be better.
- 25:04SPEAKER_06: So, but I do hope it was just our our talent and performance that just did this, not so much the competition.
- 25:10SPEAKER_06: Um, so but again, it's it's good, it's just good to see us rev the gas before we get to the real stuff.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, no doubt.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: So uh let's move on to some other big 12 games.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: We're gonna go around the Big 12 again.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: We had our first conference on conference game of the year.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Baylor defeating Kansas 45 to seven.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, rough showing for the Jayhawks.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: Uh Baylor looked solid against it's Kansas.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: Uh Baylor, I can't, I just don't have a read on them.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: I really don't.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: I because they've blown out two really bad teams.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: They played a tight one with Texas State, who again is really bad.
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: So it's tough.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: It's tough out here.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't know what to think of Baylor.
- 25:53SPEAKER_06: It was game one that where they struggled with Texas State.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: Um, but like you said, they blew out uh their their last opponent.
- 26:00SPEAKER_06: Now they're just taking it to the house with Kansas.
- 26:02SPEAKER_06: It's hard to say.
- 26:03SPEAKER_06: I guess you really got to wait until they play somebody else.
- 26:06SPEAKER_06: Um, but it they could be decent.
- 26:08SPEAKER_06: I mean, the Big 12 as a whole could be pretty good, like at least just solid across the board where no game's gonna be a gimme except for the Jayhawks.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, Kansas, Kansas, eesh.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: That's I I just can't imagine being a Kansas football fan because you I you just almost just expect it no matter what.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Like, that's just tough.
- 26:30SPEAKER_06: I saw a great comment on uh the the Reddit uh CFB account on Twitter saying, like, a Kansas fan posted being a Kansas Jayhawk fan is like playing the boss level every game, but none of them are actually the final boss.
- 26:43SPEAKER_04: I was like, that's so perfect, that's gotta be how it feels.
- 26:46SPEAKER_04: Like every single opponent just feels like a giant compared to you, but it's rough, it's rough.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: It is, it's very rough.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: But um, I I will say Baylor's defense looks really solid uh to start off the year.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: They have not let these bad teams score on them.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: Something that we can't really say.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: Um, but uh, you know, Baylor's taking care of business against the teams they should take care of business against.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: So uh it's all it only gets harder for Baylor moving forward.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: So we'll really see.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, who do they play this week?
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: I think Iowa State.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: So that's a that's a test.
- 27:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and it's gonna be a test for Iowa State, too.
- 27:20SPEAKER_06: I think.
- 27:20SPEAKER_06: I mean, the Iowa State hasn't looked spectacular this season.
- 27:24SPEAKER_06: Um, but I mean, they really we'll talk about it in a second, they really destroyed UNLV, but before that, it's been a uh a hassle for them.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, we can get into it right now.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, Iowa State does take care of this against UNLV in Vegas.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, they win 48 to 3.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: So convincing win for the Cyclones after a rough start to the season, like you mentioned.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Um, but uh yeah, I mean they they finally kind of got it all together.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: They got Brees Hall going in this game.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: I didn't watch a lot of it because it came on super late.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, but uh fun, good to see the Cyclone fans show out in Vegas.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm sure any fan base, if they're playing in Vegas, is gonna go and make it make a whole weekend out of it.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: But uh, it was cool to see the Cyclones take over Vegas.
- 28:07SPEAKER_06: I mean, you have your highest hype season of all time as a fan, and you get to go to Las Vegas.
- 28:10SPEAKER_06: I mean, it just seems like the perfect combo to make that happen to fly uh to Las Vegas and have some fun with it.
- 28:15SPEAKER_06: But uh let's let's just not let's just not forget, even though they played really well, UNLV hasn't won a single game.
- 28:21SPEAKER_06: UNLV's really, really bad.
- 28:23SPEAKER_06: And it's so we don't really know what this says.
- 28:26SPEAKER_06: Um, but it's about time Iowa State did what it was supposed to, because it's the first time they have all season.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're gonna find out a lot about both Baylor and Iowa State at their game next week.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: So uh let's move on.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: Kansas State defeating Nevada 38 to 17, their first game without Skyler Thompson this season.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: Uh Will Howard was their quarterback for this game, and uh they they beat him, they beat Nevada.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: Great, good job.
- 28:51SPEAKER_06: Uh no, I mean it's it's actually more impressive than it initially looks.
- 28:54SPEAKER_06: This Nevada team did beat Cal.
- 28:56SPEAKER_06: Um, I mean, anytime a G5 opponent beats a power five opponent, it is impressive.
- 29:01SPEAKER_06: So it this Nevada team wasn't a slouch.
- 29:03SPEAKER_06: Kansas State actually looks like they're kind of the sleeper of the year in the Big 12.
- 29:06SPEAKER_06: They've done really well and they're out of conference like really well.
- 29:09SPEAKER_06: Um, now they're uh number 25 for it.
- 29:12SPEAKER_06: So it'll be interesting to see how they hit conference play.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: Um, but I kind of feel like Texas Tech and Kansas State are actually comparable, and I mean that as a compliment to both teams.
- 29:21SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna be a good game when we might meet up.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's a lot of teams in the Big 12 right now that I'm putting on the same level, including our own.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, Texas, Baylor, Kansas State.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it just looks like a lot of teams are at the same kind of skill level, which is nice to see.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: It provides for a lot of fun games moving forward.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: So I would say moving forward a lot.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Uh but but yeah, Kansas State was really good.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: They were they were good, they took care of business against a a pretty decent Nevada team.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: So shouts out to them.
- 29:50SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 29:51SPEAKER_06: Let's see how the climbing era pays off in the in the conference game, I guess.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Hey, three and oh, right where you want to be, you know, right where you want to be, as Matt Wells would say, but uh moving on.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma uh beating Nebraska, kind of uh 20 23 to 16.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: A rough showing from the Sooners in what was uh what did they call it?
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: The game of the game of the century.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: Yikes.
- 30:17SPEAKER_06: Gosh, I was just giving them such a hard time.
- 30:21SPEAKER_06: Is this Oklahoma team fraudulent?
- 30:23SPEAKER_06: Like, are they are they frauds?
- 30:25SPEAKER_06: Because they they haven't impressed at all.
- 30:27SPEAKER_06: Um, yeah, they absolutely hounded Western Carolina, but Western Carolina might be really like really, really, really bad in FCS level.
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: So this this OU but they may not be any good, yeah.
- 30:41SPEAKER_06: I mean, they or at least not nearly they're not number four.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's yeah, the top five, it's looking rough for OU to keep putting them there, but uh the two-lane game was way too tight.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: This Nebraska game was way too tight.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, Nebraska lost to Illinois, and Illinois stinks.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: Nebraska stinks.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Nebraska stinks.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: This should not have been that tight.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: There is this weird.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: I I know you know it's still, I guess, a rivalry technically.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but come on, you know, it's like a former Big 12 game that they cared about a lot, and rivalry games are weird.
- 31:15SPEAKER_06: It's not, but do you think any of those players know it is like come on?
- 31:20SPEAKER_06: Because the last time they played was what 12 years ago?
- 31:22SPEAKER_06: It was to the fans, though.
- 31:25SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah, it does.
- 31:26SPEAKER_06: I I know, but it how can it really feel like a rivalry game when Nebraska has been nothing but absolute ding dong doo-doo since they left the Big 12?
- 31:36SPEAKER_06: Like they have been atrocious, and they just lost to Illinois, who lost to UTSA.
- 31:40SPEAKER_06: Go runners, get rowdy, don't get me wrong, but uh OE.
- 31:45SPEAKER_06: I'm just saying, like, I I don't want to throw a rivalry game on this because it just I get doubt it really felt that way.
- 31:52SPEAKER_06: Um, but it's just I'm just saying this.
- 31:54SPEAKER_06: Oh, you this OU team may not win the Big 12 this year, and because everyone else looks pretty competent while OU just doesn't look like they normally do.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean uh Spencer Rattler, not not the Heisman year that they were expecting from him so far.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's he's just kind of yeeting it out there a few times into triple double coverage and throwing some interceptions.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: He hasn't looked fantastic.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, there hasn't really been an elite part of this uh OU team, maybe except for the rush defense.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're getting to the opposing quarterbacks really quickly, and Nick Benito is unbelievable.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: But uh, and their linebackers look good.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: So parts of their defense look good.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: Uh their offense, like you said, looks a little fraudulent.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: So uh we'll see.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: OU plays uh West Virginia next week.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: So that's gonna be a game uh where I think we learn uh again, we're gonna learn a lot about these Big 12 teams when they start playing stiffered competitions, so uh and conference games, so that's gonna be cool for sure.
- 32:50SPEAKER_06: I'm excited to see.
- 32:51SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna be pulling again like this.
- 32:53SPEAKER_06: Is a big eight podcast, okay?
- 32:55SPEAKER_06: So I will be cheering against OU so hard for uh for West Virginia to get this dub.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: So I I I will say I was rooting for Nebraska kind of hard.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, I know I don't normally root for like Nebraska, but anytime somebody's going up against OU or UT this year, I'm totally rooting for them.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: So this was fun to see OU not live up to expectations.
- 33:17SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 33:17SPEAKER_06: I mean, we woo we woo-pigged a couple weeks ago, and we're woo-pigging this weekend.
- 33:21SPEAKER_06: I did not woo pig, I'll say that again.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I I will I will root for Arkansas when they're playing Texas and Texas AM, but I will not woo pig.
- 33:31SPEAKER_06: But it's are you telling me you're not gonna be woo-pigging during the AM game?
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: I will be rooting for the pigs, I will not be wooing the pigs.
- 33:41SPEAKER_06: Not a real fan.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: You're not a real fan.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: I'm not, I'm not a real Arkansas fan.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: You caught me.
- 33:47SPEAKER_06: But are you telling me you're not gonna be in your living room with other grown-ass men doing jazz fingers saying woo for a long time and saying pigs sue we to follow it up?
- 34:01SPEAKER_06: Are you telling me that?
- 34:02SPEAKER_06: Are you looking me in the face right now and telling me you're not doing that?
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: I it was one of the most disturbing things I've ever witnessed when we went to the Arkansas game in Fayetteville, uh, when Patrick Moames beat them in 2015.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: And I'm seeing this this man had to be six foot eight, uh, bald, all probably in his 60s or 70s, and he is wooing like uh like a like a small tiny girl.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: That chant is the worst chant in college sports.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: You cannot feel good doing that chant.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: It's the wooing that gets you, not the jazz fingers as they do it.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: It's a that's they do jazz fingers, they do the jazz fingers as they do it.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: They're woo, their their voice goes so high when they're wooing.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: I it just it's bad.
- 34:46SPEAKER_06: It's we give Arkansas a disproportionate amount of hard time on this podcast.
- 34:50SPEAKER_06: Like I feel like we rip on their more than like any other non-d12 fan if uh fan base.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: Their fans stink, they're awful every single year.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Wait until baseball season when they're actually good at something, even though they're they've showed pretty good in football this year.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: But uh, yeah, their fans are obnoxious when they're really good, and we've always seen that.
- 35:08SPEAKER_03: We can always crap on Arkansas.
- 35:10SPEAKER_06: I'm woo-pigging, all right.
- 35:12SPEAKER_06: I I need I need AM to go down.
- 35:14SPEAKER_04: You could woopig alone in your room.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: I'm a jazz, I'm a jazz finger the shit out of that.
- 35:21SPEAKER_03: Let's move on from this Arkansas talk uh to another fraudulent Oklahoma team in Oklahoma State, uh, pulling it out uh against Boise State 21 to 20 this week.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Uh they uh I Oklahoma State is not good.
- 35:39SPEAKER_06: This is the most fraudulent Gato I've ever seen.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I it's ridiculous.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: I can't believe that Oklahoma State is 3-0.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: Their offense does not look good.
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: Their running attack looks all right, they look solid.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: They have a really good running back back there, but Spencer Sanders has not looked good.
- 35:57SPEAKER_04: Are you talking about his face or his gameplay?
- 36:00SPEAKER_04: Both.
- 36:01SPEAKER_04: They both look terrible.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: Listen, it's petty to just go after a guy's.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: It is, it is.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: We're we're better than that.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: We're better than that, but but yeah, Spencer Sanders, not a good looking guy.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: But okay, moving on.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Moving on.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Uh Oklahoma State as a team has not looked good.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: Their defense has kind of held it down for them.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: That game was awful to watch, especially the second half.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Nobody scored a point in the second half of the Boise State Oklahoma State game, and uh just nobody gets it going.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: And uh, I I think I'm with you that Oklahoma State is the worst 3-0 team in in college football right now.
- 36:37SPEAKER_06: It's it's crazy.
- 36:38SPEAKER_06: I really think they're gonna about to go to college, uh, I mean, uh or they're gonna go to college football.
- 36:42SPEAKER_06: They haven't been playing college football, they're gonna go to the Big 12 games, and I think it's gonna be a route.
- 36:47SPEAKER_06: Like, I think this 3-0 changes quickly, man.
- 36:49SPEAKER_06: Because I think for the once in freaking ever we have a bad Oklahoma State team on our hands, and it's it's been a really, really long time since we've been able to say they're just bad.
- 36:59SPEAKER_06: So, because I think they're bad, so it's it's it's about damn time, is what I say.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: I I hope you're right on that one.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, Oklahoma State needs to have a down year, it's been too long.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: This is still a good win against Boise State.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: Boise State is not a pushover by any means, but they're in Boise, and yeah, that's true.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Not not a lot of teams go to Boise and win that game, so uh it is a good win on paper, but man, I mean, they have squeaked out each and every win that they have this year.
- 37:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, none of them have been confident, none of them have been that they did what they were supposed to, it's just been they've scraped by barely.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so they they definitely have a solid running back in Jalen Warren moving forward.
- 37:41SPEAKER_03: He's definitely running back one.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then Malcolm Rodriguez, my my brother from another mother, has looked great uh for the linebacking core.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, Oklahoma State, uh a tough scene out there so far.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: But they are three and oh, can't complain.
- 37:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you they can't uh Xerox, you can kiss kiss it, all right.
- 38:01SPEAKER_06: That's that's what I'm saying.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: So TCU had a bye week, uh, by the way.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: Uh how are you having a bye week after after two weeks of college football?
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: That sucks.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: That does suck.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: TCU didn't play, so there's nothing to talk about there.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Uh Texas uh plowing over uh your rice owls, uh 58 to nothing.
- 38:22SPEAKER_03: Uh Texas look competent against a bad rice team.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Gotta give them credit uh for shutting out an opponent.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: That's always good.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: But um, you know, uh there's not there's still just not a ton of confidence with this Texas team, even though they did just blow out uh an opponent.
- 38:38SPEAKER_06: Look, I'm livid.
- 38:39SPEAKER_06: UT should be a top five team now.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: They just beat the breaks off of rice, they deserve it, man.
- 38:45SPEAKER_06: This is the Texas is back, baby.
- 38:47SPEAKER_06: Did you not see that?
- 38:49SPEAKER_04: Right, Texas is back, baby.
- 38:52SPEAKER_06: SEC Juggernaut Texas is here.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: That's like 1903 college football champion rice.
- 39:00SPEAKER_03: You're talking about, maybe.
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: They they used to be good in like the early 1900s, maybe.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Back when the nerd schools were the only ones that were good, yeah.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: Back when them and Rutgers were the only two teams.
- 39:11SPEAKER_06: Um Harvard was owning the landscape.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I there's not much to say about this, man.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: I really don't know.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: Rice is no good.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Uh UT took care of business, and they have a new quarterback, Casey Thompson.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: I don't think anybody's hyped up about Casey Thompson on the UT fandom there.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Um, I think he's different from Hudson Card, who had a really bad showing against Arkansas, but uh I don't think anybody really Bijan showed out because Bichon's awesome, he's really good.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, but other than that, man, there's not a lot about UT that has been just unbelievable.
- 39:46SPEAKER_06: Besides Texas being clearly back, there's nothing else to say about it, you know.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's true.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: Uh freak out, freak out about a 58, nothing went over rice.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, but uh moving on, West Virginia with a huge win for the conference and for themselves this week.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Uh beating rival Virginia Tech 27 to 21 in a really fun game, a really just kind of down to the wire, insane.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: A lot of mistakes were made uh down the stretch for both teams, but uh West Virginia came out with it, man.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: Got to give them credit.
- 40:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, here we got another competent Big 12 team, that's for sure.
- 40:20SPEAKER_06: It's the best win of the Neil Brown era.
- 40:21SPEAKER_06: So they're definitely gonna be a team to watch again.
- 40:23SPEAKER_06: So we before we're thinking maybe they're not so much a team to pay attention to, but they got all of our attention.
- 40:28SPEAKER_06: So it looks like top to bottom, this conference is gonna be a tough sledding.
- 40:32SPEAKER_06: It really does.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I mean the one thing I will say about this, I didn't get to watch a ton of this game, but it did catch the end there.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: And Jared Dagey is not good at football.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: I don't I'm not believing anybody that still has confidence in Jared Dagey.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: He is not a good quarterback, and I don't care what you tell me.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: Is he know his older brother went to Texas Tech?
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Did you know that?
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: I didn't, I didn't know that.
- 40:56SPEAKER_06: Did you know his old that's insane?
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: That's mind blowing that uh that Jarrett's older brother went to Texas Tech and said, Don't worry, SPM will let us know.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: They will no, just wait until the West Virginia game in two weeks.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: They'll really let us know.
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: They're their their notes need to say worse daggy on it.
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: I I need them to say that over air.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: Please, please say worse daggy.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: He threw a horrible interception at the end of the game that almost handed Virginia Tech the win.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, but Virginia or uh West Virginia's defense held it down for him at the end there.
- 41:29SPEAKER_03: So uh there's some they're a team to watch, even with Jared Dagey as their quarterback.
- 41:33SPEAKER_03: Uh Letty Brown took off for a huge run to start that game.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, they they're solid, they're a really solid football team.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: Uh they play OU.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: It's a big test for them next week.
- 41:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you know, we'll see how how it plays out for them.
- 41:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm excited for a conference play to start.
- 41:48SPEAKER_06: Like all I do like how in the Big 12 we start every season off with just three out of conference games.
- 41:54SPEAKER_06: I think it's so bizarre when game one's a conference game in other other leagues, like the Big Ten and stuff.
- 41:59SPEAKER_06: That that weirds me out.
- 42:01SPEAKER_06: I I like the buildup to the Big 12 season.
- 42:03SPEAKER_06: I like all the teams getting their stuff together for the most part or being upset and being proven to be nothing to worry about and all that.
- 42:10SPEAKER_06: So it's I I like it, it's fun, but I'm really excited for the Big 12 play to start.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so we'll make sure to recap all those games next week, uh, after they all take place.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: But uh just a quick shout out to the four future conference members, BYU taking care of business, beating their third Pac-12 team of the year, taking down Arizona State 27 to 17.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, big time win for the Cougs.
- 42:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, ranked win against the Cougs.
- 42:33SPEAKER_06: That's two ranked wins in a row, man.
- 42:35SPEAKER_06: There's something to worry about, dude.
- 42:36SPEAKER_06: The Pac-12 is terrified.
- 42:39SPEAKER_06: They're terrified of the Mormons.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: They don't want to play BYU anymore.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: I tell you, they're done.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: No Pac-12 team wants anything to do with BYU this season.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: The the Big 12 stock in BYU is awesome.
- 42:51SPEAKER_06: Like, I'm glad we bought them because holy cow, they look like a wonderful addition to the conference.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: They will be.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: They're always solid, they're looking really good to start this football season.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: So, shouts out to them.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: Cincinnati, a big win against Indiana, taking down a Big Ten member, uh, 38 to 24.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: Um, Cincinnati, they're they're a top 10 team, man.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: They really looked apart.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I want them to crash the playoffs so bad.
- 43:15SPEAKER_06: Please do.
- 43:15SPEAKER_03: I do too.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: I do too.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: It won't happen.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: It won't happen.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: They're not gonna lie.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: I hope they do.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: No, they won't.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: They'll put in a two-win Georgia.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they'll be like two lost Georgia.
- 43:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this SEC team that didn't win the SEC and lost the game deserves to be in there instead of undefeated Cincinnati.
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, seriously.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: So Cincinnati looking good.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: Uh Houston taking down our Gramblers of Grambling State.
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: 45.
- 43:38SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: I was really rooting for really rooting for my Gramblers, but uh it didn't didn't work out for them.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: Uh they lose 45 to nothing.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: Uh Kooks taking care of business.
- 43:49SPEAKER_06: The Kooks will pay for this for doing that to my Gramblers.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: My Gramblers will will mess them up next time, just you wait.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: But uh, no, and then UCF.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, the lone loss of the four teams that will soon be added to the Big 12.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: Falling to Louisville in an absolutely crazy game on Friday night.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, 42 to 35.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, this game was insane.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: If you didn't check it out, I mean, Louisville threw an interception, UCF was in the driver's seat to win the game, and then right away, UCF throws a pick, a pick six that ended the game.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, uh tough way to lose for the Knights.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the Knights blew it.
- 44:28SPEAKER_06: And it was it was a rough game to watch, and they kind of teetered a bit against Boise State.
- 44:32SPEAKER_06: Um, so they don't really look like they're gonna have a spectacular season over just going off of what we've seen.
- 44:38SPEAKER_06: But you know, it's it's still they they still have not played conference play.
- 44:41SPEAKER_06: Uh, and it is tough to go to a P5 stadium and and win.
- 44:44SPEAKER_06: It's just it's a tough test.
- 44:46SPEAKER_06: And they it's not like they it's not like they got blown out, but they did blow it.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: They did, they blew it at the end, and that's something the Gus bus is gonna have to work on with uh with the nights moving forward.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, man, that's that's it for uh the around the big 12 there.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: I did want to we have two more things we're gonna talk about.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: We're not gonna do a song of the week on this episode, we're gonna wait uh for the for Thursday's episode.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, but I did want to talk about the basketball conference schedule got released, and man, uh all of Lubbock is breaking out their pitchforks for February 1st, 2022, when Chris Beard finally returns to Lubbock.
- 45:24SPEAKER_06: Probably the single biggest regular season game we've ever seen in school history.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I think so because yeah, I would think so, because it um I can't fathom the madness that the USA is gonna be in when Chris Beard finally comes to town.
- 45:44SPEAKER_03: And uh, I mean, this is revenge tour.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, this is the most revenge game of all revenge games right now.
- 45:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I really feel like the uh probably ESPN broadcast or whatever is gonna have to play the entire game on mute because I I think it's gonna be a lot of interesting words, colorful words, being tossed around that stadium or arena, I should say.
- 46:07SPEAKER_06: Um, but it's gonna be ton of fun, it's gonna be awesome.
- 46:10SPEAKER_06: I know there's some people that are really disappointed that's on Tuesday um because they would want to drive to Lubbock or something, but I think the important thing is is you have the game whenever the students are on campus because it's the students are gonna make a difference.
- 46:22SPEAKER_06: It's I'm I'm just glad it's not gonna be early January where everyone's still on winter break.
- 46:25SPEAKER_06: I'm just glad that we'll be able to have that place packed with rabid students.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Listen, we were gonna sell out this game was gonna sell out no matter if even if it wasn't early January.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: But yes, you're right.
- 46:37SPEAKER_03: When this we needed this game to happen when the students were back, and we got that.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: I know it's Tuesday, it stinks for the alumni that don't live in Lubbock that want to go and travel for this game.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, you're gonna have to take some PTO there.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, it's no matter what, this game's gonna be rowdy, it's gonna be insane.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm really excited.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: I, you know, we're probably not gonna be there, but I'm really excited to see it uh unfold on TV and see the commentators try to bleep out all the craziness that is gonna be spewed.
- 47:07SPEAKER_06: And it an interesting thing to watch is this is like in the middle of the basketball season.
- 47:11SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of basketball to be played before this game happens.
- 47:14SPEAKER_06: So we don't know if this is gonna be a ranked matchup, or maybe Texas Tech is ranked and UT's not.
- 47:19SPEAKER_06: Uh that would be sick.
- 47:20SPEAKER_06: Um, but it's it's just it's there's gonna be a lot to watch until we get there.
- 47:25SPEAKER_06: Um, because it man, but it's gonna be a horns down festival.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I I wouldn't be surprised if there were some items thrown uh in the general vicinity of Chris Beard.
- 47:37SPEAKER_03: I would hope that doesn't happen because it's kind of a bad look.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: But um, you know, I and I I want us to yell everything at this guy, yell every profanity known to man.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: I am uh I'm I'm upset.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: I'm uh you know, all of Texas Tech is still uh really, you know, just just mad at Chris Beard and mad at his decision to go coach the Longhorn.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: So he is going to deserve uh all the crap that he is given.
- 48:04SPEAKER_06: No, let him have it.
- 48:05SPEAKER_06: I mean, this guy's gonna be the most is probably the most hated single person our university has ever had in athletics.
- 48:12SPEAKER_06: And I really I don't know if it's particularly close.
- 48:14SPEAKER_06: I'm sure some people will say, like Craig James getting Mike Leech fired, but I think this guy, this probably is he's number one on the most wanted list.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: It's it's kind of a three-way tie right here for Craig and Adam James and and Tupperville and Chris Beard.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: All these guys are not welcome in Lubbock, and uh uh Chris Beard's gonna get a bunch of crap, man.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be fun to see.
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be a blast.
- 48:37SPEAKER_06: I'm I'm hyped, I'm hyped as hell.
- 48:38SPEAKER_06: I'm excited for basketball, dude.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: Like it's just it's been so great seeing the basketball team so involved with the with the football games and just and seeing uh Coach Adams wreck the recruiting trail and seeing our our boys train for the upcoming season because it's gonna be a ton of fun.
- 48:52SPEAKER_06: Um, because even the opening slate looks pretty fun.
- 48:54SPEAKER_06: So I'm just excited for basketball, man.
- 48:56SPEAKER_06: I know we just started football and I'm still excited about football, but it's right around the corner.
- 49:01SPEAKER_06: Like November's not that far away.
- 49:02SPEAKER_06: So it's it's gonna be it's gonna be fun to watch this get going.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think either today or yesterday, it's 50 season or 50 days until college basketball starts.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: So that's I mean, that's right around the corner.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: But uh just some other things about this basketball conference schedule.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: The game we are gonna try to go see is when tech goes to Austin and plays UT um on February 19th.
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: It's a Saturday, which is nice for out of towners to make their way to the concrete flannel that is uh UT's basketball arena.
- 49:33SPEAKER_03: So that's gonna be cool.
- 49:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, let's outnumber their fans because I I'm gonna I'm gonna tinpoil hat this.
- 49:39SPEAKER_06: You and I had tickets last year to go to the concrete plan, and then they canceled on us like a day before.
- 49:45SPEAKER_06: Like, oh, no fans can come to the tech game, even though we've been letting fans in before.
- 49:49SPEAKER_06: So I think they were just scared.
- 49:50SPEAKER_06: I think they just didn't want more tech fans in there, which uh clearly would have been the case.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: So um excited for that one.
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, we have a tough stretch.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: Our toughest stretch, I believe, of this conference slate is gonna be from January 22nd to February 5th, where we host West Virginia, then we go to Kansas, then we host Texas, and then we uh go to Morgantown again to play West Virginia.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: So that's a four-game stretch right there.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: Those are uh three really good teams.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: West Virginia were playing twice during that stretch.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: So that's gonna be a real uh kind of indicator of where we end up this season.
- 50:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 50:27SPEAKER_06: Like real the schedule really sets up with the Big 12 where we peak in the middle, like with how tough the schedule is, and then it tapers off on both sides.
- 50:35SPEAKER_06: But I mean, we're saying that we say that even though Baylor wasn't mentioned once in that uh stretch, and we were talking about national champion Baylor.
- 50:43SPEAKER_06: So Baylor loses a lot of guard as hell to run into.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: There's something there's still gonna be good.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: Yes, Baylor's still gonna be good, but they did lose four of their premier players from last year's national championship team.
- 50:56SPEAKER_03: So um we do start and end conference play with Oklahoma State, which is gonna be another solid team, probably has a chance to compete for the Big 12 next season.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Mike Boynton's got a good thing going on with the Cowboys over there, but I really like to see this, and this is what I really wanted to emphasize on this conference slate was our final four games are very favorable if we're in a tight race for the Big 12, because we play OU at home and then we go to TCU, and then we host K State, and then we go to Oklahoma State.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: That's a really Oklahoma State's tough.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: OU could be you know spicy this season, but Kansas State is not going to be very good.
- 51:35SPEAKER_03: And uh TCU is not they're gonna be improved, but they're not gonna be very good.
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: So having OU, TCU, and Kansas State there to end off the season is a really good, a really good thing for us if we're end up if we end up competing for the Big 12.
- 51:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's a good point because that's definitely what we're glued to at the end of the season, especially if we're in the running.
- 51:55SPEAKER_06: Um, and we got to soak this in now.
- 51:57SPEAKER_06: This is gonna be these these are some of the last seasons where it's gonna be the the true round robin, most likely, for basketball.
- 52:02SPEAKER_06: And I think that's like the best part about the round robin is the home and homes in basketball.
- 52:06SPEAKER_06: That that's that that's awesome.
- 52:08SPEAKER_06: So just we're gonna we gotta soak this in like we are with football because it could be the last time we play these teams.
- 52:13SPEAKER_06: But um, the new the new teams definitely bring a lot for basketball, so there's not much to be worried about with there.
- 52:17SPEAKER_06: So, but man, November can't come fast enough.
- 52:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: Excited for basketball season.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, we'll get y'all, you know, we'll preview all that stuff once it gets a little bit closer.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, hopefully get some cool guests on, talk some uh Red Raider basketball because it's gonna be another good year.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Um, under and first under Coach Mark Adams.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Exciting, yeah, dawn of a new era.
- 52:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: So uh let's let's kind of end it off here with a little talk and tech breakdown.
- 52:42SPEAKER_03: Again, we have another episode coming uh later this week for y'all to break down UT and talk about the rivalry.
- 52:50SPEAKER_03: Um, but let's talk about some other small sports to end off this episode uh and give y'all something to get hyped about because we had a good week uh on the smaller sports soccer with a win over Eastern Washington, a hat trick for Ashley Williams in the second half.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: It was a great showing um for uh for her, and and we ended up beating Eastern Washington, I think 3-0.
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: So uh big time win.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: Uh up next we have conference play starting off for soccer, OU coming to the walker, and then K-State coming to the walker right after that.
- 53:21SPEAKER_03: So uh a nice little two-game start for uh for the ladies.
- 53:26SPEAKER_06: And we can probably watch those on ESBN Plus.
- 53:28SPEAKER_06: So I'm excited for that.
- 53:29SPEAKER_06: They will be, they will both be on ESPN.
- 53:31SPEAKER_06: Good ones to watch.
- 53:32SPEAKER_06: Let's go for sure, man.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: So uh hyped up for soccer.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: Uh good start, another good start for volleyball.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: The ladies go three and oh on the week at the Green Wave Invitational with wins over UAB Tulane and Sam Houston State.
- 53:47SPEAKER_03: The tournament MVP was Kennet Sawyer, uh, defensive MVP was KJ Adams.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: Reagan Cooper also made the all-tournament team.
- 53:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, so that moves the volleyball team to 10 and 3 on the season.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a great start for the ladies.
- 54:00SPEAKER_06: We'll take that all day with how the last season went.
- 54:03SPEAKER_06: So this is this is awesome, especially with conference play around the corner.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: So, up next, like you said, conference play starts for this team, a two-match series against Kansas in Lubbock to begin conference play.
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: So uh just to kind of cap it off here, women's golf ranked number 20 to start the season.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: They are currently playing in the Mercedes-Benz Invitational.
- 54:25SPEAKER_03: So keep an eye out for those uh those updates for women's golf.
- 54:30SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're golf school.
- 54:32SPEAKER_06: We got the Swedish fish with the guys, and we got these ladies kicking ass too.
- 54:36SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're always have been a golf school.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: Never haven't been a golf school.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: No, so uh big time start for uh for the women's team, and then also women's tennis.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: They have the SMU Hidden Duels this week coming up.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: So um uh, you know, starting off tennis, starting off that season.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, just just we always have to keep an eye out for the smaller sports because they deserve love, they represent Texas Tech, they're usually really good.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: So uh, you know, always wanted to give y'all, I like doing these talk and tech breakdowns because it gives you all kind of an update on something that you're really not normally gonna see.
- 55:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 55:13SPEAKER_06: Unsung heroes, because we like you say, we do so well in these sports too.
- 55:16SPEAKER_06: So it's not it's not just the big times that you we need to pay attention to because these these uh young men and women work really hard.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: So, but yeah, that's gonna end it off for this episode.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: Look for part two coming on Thursday.
- 55:28SPEAKER_03: Um, and we're gonna give you the song of the week as well.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: So um, man, let's let's end it off.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: Always Wreck'em Tech.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: Wreck'em Tech.

- 55:38SPEAKER_02: First of all, uh got a lot of respect for Steven and Tristan.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: Uh their program, tough guys, just uh a lot of fun.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: I love the game of basketball, but also love West Texas, and I love Steven and Tristan.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: I'm extremely proud.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know where we go from here.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm thinking I'm just gonna sit back down.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: It's just not getting better than this.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: I just want to tell Steven and Tristan thanks for coming out.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: The energy uh was really, really good in there today.
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: Uh we fed off of it.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: I think it goes back and forth tremendous.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: Uh great job, and um, you know, just just proud of our guys for the way they responded to the wrong thing.
