- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to jag Zam in the Honday Studios. I'm kin
- 0:18Speaker 1: Nannie Stevens, Brian Sexton, and Mark Duffner are with me
- 0:20Speaker 1: today as we recap what was the eighteenth day of
- 0:24Speaker 1: open practice for the Jaguars getting into it into training camp.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We're gonna go over our big things today, brought to
- 0:29Speaker 1: you by g eh A Government Employees Health Association. And
- 0:32Speaker 1: as I mentioned, we've been here many many days in
- 0:34Speaker 1: a row and we're hitting the home stretch. And Josh
- 0:37Speaker 1: hein Zallan talked yesterday. He said, while we are in
- 0:39Speaker 1: the home stretch, it's not time to ease off.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm ready to I'm ready to go.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And you can just tell just by today being like
- 0:46Speaker 3: a little job through practice or it's like we need
- 0:50Speaker 3: a fine tune everything, like everything needs to look like
- 0:53Speaker 3: how it's gonna look week one, like all the little
- 0:56Speaker 3: little communication eras that you know, if we don't make it,
- 1:00Speaker 3: that's over with. It's time to lock in and it's
- 1:03Speaker 3: time to get this thing going.
- 1:04Speaker 2: So yeah, it's.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Ready, friend, We're nearing the home stretch, but it's not
- 1:08Speaker 1: time to ease off. They got to get ready for
- 1:10Speaker 1: a week one of the season.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Really, it's a tale of two teams right now.
- 1:13Speaker 5: You've got the veteran guys like Josh who are just
- 1:16Speaker 5: about to start ramping up and getting their regular season
- 1:19Speaker 5: preparation underway.
- 1:20Speaker 4: But you've got guys.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Like Brian Thomas Junior, Brian with Why the pass rusher
- 1:24Speaker 5: who I just talked to on the practice field. They're
- 1:27Speaker 5: ramping into their final opportunity to find a way to
- 1:31Speaker 5: make this football team their final impression.
- 1:34Speaker 4: So it's an interesting sort of.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Dichotomy as you come out of training camp. But you
- 1:39Speaker 5: also have these guys who are still clinging to their
- 1:41Speaker 5: last few days of training camp. You could tell on
- 1:45Speaker 5: the practice field and the walk through this morning that
- 1:48Speaker 5: these guys are nervous might not be the right word,
- 1:50Speaker 5: but really feeling the pressure to make their last few days,
- 1:55Speaker 5: perhaps in a Jaguars uniform count Duff. When you talk
- 1:59Speaker 5: about any camp ending for guys, they feel it because
- 2:03Speaker 5: their football career could be ending.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Oh, there's no question about it. And I've been impressed
- 2:07Speaker 2: with the focus and the energy that these guys that
- 2:09Speaker 2: are trying to make the team are demonstrating. And they're
- 2:12Speaker 2: getting a great opportunity here because they're playing these preseason games,
- 2:16Speaker 2: they're not only showing up for the Jaguars, but they're
- 2:19Speaker 2: showing their wares for the rest of the NFL. So
- 2:21Speaker 2: they want to take advantage of every snap and that's
- 2:24Speaker 2: a great attitude.
- 2:25Speaker 5: They've been working at a kui for their entire football lives,
- 2:28Speaker 5: and for some they know this might be the end.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Absolutely. Let's talk a little bit about our second big
- 2:34Speaker 1: big which is clean up. When we talk about a
- 2:36Speaker 1: preseason game, we're going to recap game number two that
- 2:38Speaker 1: was last Friday, but not a ton of highlights from
- 2:42Speaker 1: that one. Duff one, I'm talking about that game. I'm
- 2:44Speaker 1: really thinking about cleaning up the penalties and not making
- 2:46Speaker 1: those kinds of mistakes.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Oh, you're one hundred percent correct, guy, that was the issue.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I mean, we had I think five penalties on offense,
- 2:53Speaker 2: three on defense, one on special teams. So we got
- 2:56Speaker 2: to get that fixed. Then they will they have a
- 2:58Speaker 2: major focus on that. And the other thing. I think
- 3:01Speaker 2: we got to start fast. You know, we've started slow
- 3:04Speaker 2: in both preseason games. Now I realize this is a
- 3:06Speaker 2: lot of our backups that are playing. In fact, in
- 3:09Speaker 2: the Carolina game, we played against their first offense and
- 3:11Speaker 2: first defense, which was great exposure for our team. But again,
- 3:15Speaker 2: we got to start faster. I know coach has been
- 3:17Speaker 2: beating a drum on that, and the team will respond
- 3:20Speaker 2: to that.
- 3:20Speaker 5: How difficult is it to start fast and to play
- 3:23Speaker 5: without the mistakes and turnovers when the lineup changes, You know,
- 3:27Speaker 5: it's seemingly play by play. Different guys are in there
- 3:30Speaker 5: trying to get different situations, and it just seems like
- 3:33Speaker 5: the preseason, especially the second half of a preseason game
- 3:36Speaker 5: is set up to be a bit of a fire drill.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah. No, it's tough sledding for the coaches and toff
- 3:42Speaker 2: sledding for the players the units all together. But again,
- 3:46Speaker 2: execution is the name of the game, and you want
- 3:49Speaker 2: to see good execution. You want to demand. They're demanding
- 3:51Speaker 2: that here and the players will respond to.
- 3:53Speaker 4: That in order to get the most out of that game.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Especially for the coaches, they need execution so they can
- 3:59Speaker 5: get good looks on tape so that they can make
- 4:02Speaker 5: great evaluation.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but again I applaud what's going on here
- 4:06Speaker 2: because these joint practices have been well run. I've been
- 4:10Speaker 2: very impressed with those, and we're going to see two
- 4:12Speaker 2: good ones tomorrow and the next day with Campa Bay.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But again, players are getting multiple opportunities, whether it's some
- 4:20Speaker 2: special teams offense or defense, to show what they can do.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And again that's all you can ask is a player.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Let's go to our final big thing, which is two days,
- 4:28Speaker 1: not two days, but two days of joint practice. Brian
- 4:31Speaker 1: we alluded to this. This is the first joint practice
- 4:33Speaker 1: that's going to be two days. They had one day
- 4:35Speaker 1: each with the Saints and the Panthers last week. But
- 4:38Speaker 1: this is something I think Liams really had circled on
- 4:40Speaker 1: the calendar for training campan he wants to get a
- 4:42Speaker 1: lot of good work in.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Yeah, a lot of people would think kay that he
- 4:46Speaker 5: has it circle because he was once with the Bucks.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Maybe that too, there was a little undercurrent of a
- 4:50Speaker 5: story that perhaps when he came over here, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 5: he had gone back there saying I'm going to be
- 4:55Speaker 5: a Buck and then he decided to come take the job.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Maybe there's a little animosity, you know, yesterday when he
- 4:59Speaker 5: was told talking about it, there was none of that.
- 5:01Speaker 5: It was all about what he knows, stuff that Todd
- 5:04Speaker 5: Bowles is going to bring over here when they come
- 5:07Speaker 5: to practice. He's not going to run the vanilla schemes
- 5:09Speaker 5: that they saw against the Saints or against the Panthers.
- 5:12Speaker 4: He is going to bring his blitz.
- 5:14Speaker 5: He's going to bring all sorts of exotic looks that
- 5:16Speaker 5: he really will embrace. In other words, Liam wants this
- 5:21Speaker 5: for his team to see this on the practice field.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Oh, you can feel the respect that he's got for
- 5:26Speaker 2: Todd and the organization there, and it's the best thing
- 5:28Speaker 2: you can do. I mean, you're going to get quality
- 5:30Speaker 2: reps against the high powered defenses. We just talked about
- 5:33Speaker 2: multiple and coverage, multiple pressure, multiple in terms of good
- 5:37Speaker 2: players against good players. Vida vea going against pregnant. I mean,
- 5:40Speaker 2: you can't beat that. Our edge guy is going after
- 5:43Speaker 2: Werf's and Gotta Key or whatever his last name is.
- 5:46Speaker 2: A two offensive tackles, quality reps, quality experience, if you will,
- 5:51Speaker 2: and great respect between both.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Coaches from the Bucks perspective. Guy.
- 5:56Speaker 5: That was exactly what Todd Bowles said in his news
- 5:59Speaker 5: conference on say, he knows what kind of the offense
- 6:01Speaker 5: Liam Cohen brings and he can't wait for his team
- 6:04Speaker 5: to get those live looks right before the regular season starts.
- 6:08Speaker 5: He's getting one of the best play callers in football.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Working against his defense. What could be better than that?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's safe to say both of these
- 6:14Speaker 1: teams are going to take those practices very seriously. Say
- 6:18Speaker 1: with us here on Jacks Am, we're going to look
- 6:19Speaker 1: back at preseason game number two after the break.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Being here definitely is verbalizing the offense in the Huddle's
- 6:31Speaker 6: that's a big thing that I to, you know, practice
- 6:35Speaker 6: calling those long plays things like that. So definitely that,
- 6:40Speaker 6: and you know, just the offense in general. It's a
- 6:43Speaker 6: lot of little details that we got to be perfect
- 6:45Speaker 6: in which makes the offense so good. And that's why
- 6:49Speaker 6: Trevor is so good and picking up blitzes and you know,
- 6:51Speaker 6: finding the key areas of defense. So I got a
- 6:54Speaker 6: lot to do, still a lot to grow from. I'm
- 6:56Speaker 6: excited to, you know, keep taking stats on from Trevor
- 6:59Speaker 6: and Carter and you know, the coaches and you know,
- 7:03Speaker 6: see where we could go in the season.
- 7:04Speaker 1: For Joey Aguilar, undrafted rookie added to the team out
- 7:07Speaker 1: of Tennessee, we'll get to him in a second. We're
- 7:09Speaker 1: gonna talk about preseason game number two, and I am
- 7:11Speaker 1: not going to sugarcoat it. It was pretty tough to
- 7:13Speaker 1: watch at times and stuff. We talked about this a
- 7:16Speaker 1: little bit. Was it nine penalties in the first half.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean, good on them not getting you in the
- 7:21Speaker 1: second half, but that you can't play that way.
- 7:23Speaker 2: No, no, you don't want to give snaps away. In fact,
- 7:26Speaker 2: if anything, we're trying to take things from the opponent,
- 7:28Speaker 2: not give it away. And again, as Brian alluded to,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you know mix of players in there, people that haven't
- 7:35Speaker 2: necessarily worked against each other and haven't got as many
- 7:38Speaker 2: snaps or reps as you'd like. But again, the execution
- 7:42Speaker 2: of that and not giving snaps away is going to
- 7:44Speaker 2: be focused in on this week.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I'm sure in practice, Brian, when it's so many different
- 7:50Speaker 1: players coming in and out, I'm sure it's difficult and
- 7:52Speaker 1: we'll you know, for whether the quarterback or whoever. It
- 7:55Speaker 1: is to deal with not knowing who's around you at
- 7:57Speaker 1: certain times. But part of the is also just the
- 8:01Speaker 1: development and understanding how to play in an actual NFL game,
- 8:04Speaker 1: because some of these players are very young with.
- 8:06Speaker 4: A doubt and it's tough for them.
- 8:07Speaker 5: It's tough for play by play guy too when they're
- 8:09Speaker 5: changing all the time. It was not a pretty game
- 8:11Speaker 5: to watch it all, and you're talking about guys some
- 8:14Speaker 5: who had just shown up, who had just come and
- 8:17Speaker 5: gotten onto the roster, and you're trying to remember just
- 8:20Speaker 5: the snap count seems at times difficult, and we saw
- 8:23Speaker 5: enough of that. Listen, these guys have to take their
- 8:27Speaker 5: role right, whether it's the route they run or whether
- 8:29Speaker 5: it's the block that they have to execute, and they're
- 8:32Speaker 5: worried about getting it right for themselves because they know
- 8:36Speaker 5: this rep is going to be evaluated. When you're Carter
- 8:40Speaker 5: Bradley like on this play right, I mean, he knows exactly,
- 8:43Speaker 5: he's a son of a coach. He knows not to
- 8:45Speaker 5: throw back across the middle of the start. But what's
- 8:47Speaker 5: he trying to do is trying to make a play.
- 8:49Speaker 5: He's in a quarterback competition for the third spot. So
- 8:53Speaker 5: there's all of those factors and more. You know, preseason
- 8:56Speaker 5: games may have outlived their usefulness.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Well, I think on what I've seen on the joint
- 9:01Speaker 2: practices and what you can get out of that, I
- 9:03Speaker 2: think you're probably right. There's still great evaluative opportunities to
- 9:08Speaker 2: see these players and see what they can contribute to
- 9:11Speaker 2: your team. But right about now, everybody's pressing. They know
- 9:13Speaker 2: that the clock is ticking, you know, towards the deadline
- 9:16Speaker 2: of roster development. So I mean Carter pressed on that play,
- 9:21Speaker 2: you know, and so and he wasn't the only one. Again,
- 9:24Speaker 2: we didn't just we didn't play to the standard that
- 9:26Speaker 2: this team, this organization is set up.
- 9:28Speaker 5: You see enough kui on the tay to make it worthwhile,
- 9:31Speaker 5: I guess to play the game because of those situations
- 9:34Speaker 5: for the young players.
- 9:35Speaker 4: You're trying to build your depth in your roster. But
- 9:38Speaker 4: you also Friday night against Tampa, do we anticipate it
- 9:41Speaker 4: being all that much better?
- 9:42Speaker 5: I mean, you hope, but you're still gonna have five
- 9:44Speaker 5: or six penalties in the first half, right.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you're gonna Well I hope not.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I know.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I know the coaches are working like crazy to eliminate that,
- 9:51Speaker 2: as are the players and the way they practice. But
- 9:53Speaker 2: again it's it's still hard to duplicate real game speed decisions,
- 10:00Speaker 2: all of it that goes into the mechanics of communication
- 10:03Speaker 2: that's got to go through. So they're valuable in terms
- 10:06Speaker 2: of continued development for your team, and also players think
- 10:09Speaker 2: it's fair.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Coaches don't see they see the sloppiness like we do,
- 10:13Speaker 5: but they aren't looking at the game like we are,
- 10:15Speaker 5: or like the fans in the stands are. They're looking
- 10:18Speaker 5: at particular players, right, They're looking to see Brian Thomas
- 10:21Speaker 5: Junior with a y. They're trying to see him in
- 10:24Speaker 5: pass rush situation.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Shoot, he had three tackles in the game and two
- 10:27Speaker 2: quarterback pressures. So again, when you really look at it now,
- 10:30Speaker 2: that was to his advantage. Absolutely, you know, good stuff.
- 10:34Speaker 1: There were a couple of highlights. We'll start out with
- 10:36Speaker 1: a mir Abdullah, who I think by design had to
- 10:38Speaker 1: play just because they're trying to get bodies out there.
- 10:41Speaker 1: He doesn't need preseason reps. He's a twelve year veteran.
- 10:44Speaker 1: But you can see why maybe they didn't play him
- 10:46Speaker 1: in the first game, trying to hide him a little bit,
- 10:48Speaker 1: because he's still got that pop.
- 10:51Speaker 5: He's amazing twelve years in thirty three years of age,
- 10:55Speaker 5: and this is the position in professional football that is
- 10:58Speaker 5: the shortest life's to have, right, because they take such
- 11:00Speaker 5: a beating. And yet I talked to him after practice
- 11:03Speaker 5: on Sunday. He's tough, he's durable, he loves the game,
- 11:07Speaker 5: and look at the wiggle that he has.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Wow, that twenty three yard game that he had Yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 2: it was wow. I mean he made people miss I
- 11:14Speaker 2: didn't you know, great footwork, great big goes. Yeah, I
- 11:18Speaker 2: mean he shook that guy right there. You saw it.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And then you know in two men he makes an
- 11:22Speaker 2: eleven yard catching a sixteen yard catch when we needed
- 11:25Speaker 2: it in that drive, which so great contribution by him.
- 11:28Speaker 5: The Jaguars are his seventh NFL team in twelve seasons.
- 11:33Speaker 5: He will either be on seven or eighth this year
- 11:35Speaker 5: he's playing on someone's roster.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Yes, if he doesn't make this roster, I'm sure he's
- 11:38Speaker 1: one of the ones that gets picked up. I don't
- 11:40Speaker 1: think he makes it to practice squad especially. I've also
- 11:42Speaker 1: hearing he's great pass protection as well, so that's always
- 11:45Speaker 1: something you're looking for.
- 11:46Speaker 5: He's not a big guy, but in talking to him,
- 11:48Speaker 5: he has a big heart for this game and isn't
- 11:51Speaker 5: ready to see it end. And with the way he played,
- 11:54Speaker 5: the league isn't ready for him to believe yet.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And then also we heard Joey Aguilar off the top
- 11:58Speaker 1: and he was able to string some stuff together late.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It will make it a little bit more interesting.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Which filled the numbers yet Okay.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Called on to those, but just in terms of like
- 12:12Speaker 1: actually kind of seeing something string together that was at
- 12:14Speaker 1: least enjoyable to see them put a couple of things together,
- 12:17Speaker 1: because at certain points it was just not even functioning well.
- 12:19Speaker 5: And Liam said on Sunday after practice that to watch
- 12:22Speaker 5: him work through his progression is to see a guy
- 12:25Speaker 5: who really understands the passing attack.
- 12:28Speaker 4: And on the touchdown.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Throw, the way that he went from read to read
- 12:32Speaker 5: to read, then slid in the pocket and then made
- 12:34Speaker 5: that throw put the ball right on the spot as
- 12:37Speaker 5: he was moving under pressure.
- 12:39Speaker 4: He's an impressive guy. Tennessee.
- 12:41Speaker 5: They had a nice passing attack up there. He clearly
- 12:44Speaker 5: learned from it, oh for sure.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I mean they were probably the most up tempo team
- 12:48Speaker 2: in the country last year in college football in terms
- 12:51Speaker 2: of reps and mechanics. And he's come in and you
- 12:54Speaker 2: know again, I watched him orchestrate the offense, check off
- 12:58Speaker 2: no issues. I mean, it looks like he's been in there,
- 13:00Speaker 2: he had limited reps, and what he's been able to
- 13:02Speaker 2: do in terms of running the offense, commanding the schemes
- 13:05Speaker 2: has been.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Very impressive and so accurate. Go back to the Saints
- 13:08Speaker 5: game and the throw that he made, the forty three
- 13:10Speaker 5: yarder put it right on trepor Penya right there. It
- 13:13Speaker 5: was a spectacular throw.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Abslutely had some good ones in this most recent game
- 13:17Speaker 1: as well. Coming up after the break, we're going to
- 13:20Speaker 1: talk about happy campers and unhappy campers, who's looked great
- 13:23Speaker 1: so far in training camp and who still has some
- 13:25Speaker 1: work to do. Jag Zam and the Jaguars matchup against
- 13:32Speaker 1: the Bucks this week, brought to you by Wolfson's Children's Hospital,
- 13:35Speaker 1: the official children's hospital of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 13:39Speaker 7: You got to maximize these ops and then the continued
- 13:42Speaker 7: connuity in chemistry is so important that every single time
- 13:45Speaker 7: we step out here, there has to be real intentionality
- 13:49Speaker 7: and not just Okay, this is another training camp practice
- 13:52Speaker 7: like that, ain't it anymore?
- 13:54Speaker 4: Guys?
- 13:54Speaker 7: You know, we're building towards something, We're sharpening our edge
- 13:58Speaker 7: towards something. And I thought, like Chris Rodriguez today, he
- 14:01Speaker 7: practiced that way, and you know, we got to continue
- 14:05Speaker 7: to get guys to do the same.
- 14:07Speaker 1: We'll probably technically past the dog days, but mentally it's
- 14:11Speaker 1: hard to stay sharp as much when you're here every
- 14:13Speaker 1: day as well. So I know Leo is definitely expecting
- 14:16Speaker 1: a lot out of his players in those joint practices.
- 14:19Speaker 1: We'll be live with you on Wednesday, the second day
- 14:21Speaker 1: of joint practices, so we'll kind of recap that Tuesday
- 14:24Speaker 1: practice for you. But we've been here every day training camp.
- 14:28Speaker 1: It's three four weeks in at this point. I've lost track,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but we do know who's stood out to us in
- 14:35Speaker 1: good ways and who still maybe has some work to do.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So we're gonna do happy campers and unhappy campers of
- 14:40Speaker 1: training camp. So Brian, tell us what you've observed. Who's
- 14:43Speaker 1: your happy camp right?
- 14:44Speaker 4: And that's Captain Obvious here right.
- 14:45Speaker 5: But Emmanuel Pregnant, the Jaguars third round pick from Oregon
- 14:48Speaker 5: All American guard, played at USC and Wyoming, so it's
- 14:52Speaker 5: not as if he didn't understand how to play football
- 14:55Speaker 5: at the highest level on the college level. But the
- 14:57Speaker 5: word was was that he was going to take a
- 14:59Speaker 5: little bit of time. He was your long term starter.
- 15:02Speaker 4: I e. Twenty twenty seven.
- 15:04Speaker 5: He didn't take him but a quarter first game against
- 15:08Speaker 5: the Saints, and he showed his dominance. And Jeff Loggam
- 15:12Speaker 5: had been talking all through camp. I know he had
- 15:13Speaker 5: to you, two, Duff, if this guy got his hands
- 15:16Speaker 5: on you, you're done.
- 15:17Speaker 4: You're absolutely done.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Antonio Boselli echoed that sentiment in pass protection as well.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Now he has to get better in pass protection because
- 15:24Speaker 5: he's got to move quicker. He's going to see some
- 15:26Speaker 5: guys that are going to be very, very fast. But
- 15:29Speaker 5: he is a ready to play guard right now. I
- 15:33Speaker 5: would be shocked. It' stunned if he's not the guy
- 15:36Speaker 5: on opening day who's had a better camp than this guy.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I mean, I think what was the evaluative term we
- 15:41Speaker 1: were hearing on Maler. He just mauls people in front
- 15:44Speaker 1: of him, and when you put him on the left side.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Now with anton Harrison, who has become a non story
- 15:48Speaker 1: because he's done so well at left tackle since moving
- 15:50Speaker 1: over for training camp, that's a pretty dominant left side road.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Greater plus, with these joint practice is coming up.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Vita Veya, He's gonna get tested, that's for sure.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I think that's awesome, be a great experience.
- 16:02Speaker 5: He faced Derek Brown the All Protaal against Carolina and
- 16:06Speaker 5: did well, but he also learned a couple of things.
- 16:08Speaker 5: It's a lot more difficult to move these guys, so
- 16:12Speaker 5: he will benefit tremendously from it.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Who's your unhappy Camper, who is something they got to
- 16:16Speaker 1: work on.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Carter Bradley the quarterback, and all of us have been
- 16:19Speaker 5: pulling for him because his family ties right with you,
- 16:23Speaker 5: Guss and michaela who we know and love.
- 16:26Speaker 4: It was great to see him last year. He's got
- 16:28Speaker 4: a cannon for an arm, but he's.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Made some poor throws, poor decisions and Joey.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Aguilar not hot.
- 16:37Speaker 4: On his heels.
- 16:38Speaker 5: In fact, if it's me, I'm saying that Carter Bradley
- 16:42Speaker 5: has fallen to fourth and Agilar, polished passer, a quarterback
- 16:48Speaker 5: who seems so comfortable in the system right now appears
- 16:52Speaker 5: to have passed Carter Bradley.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Bradley's going to have to go into the game.
- 16:55Speaker 5: On Friday night and play his best football, which, okay,
- 17:01Speaker 5: every quarterback wants to do that every game, but.
- 17:04Speaker 4: When you know that your job is on the line,
- 17:06Speaker 4: the pressure is there.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And Gus famously was a guy who tried to get
- 17:09Speaker 5: players to play without the pressure, and Carter, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 5: grew up hearing play loose, play relaxed, play free. He
- 17:17Speaker 5: has got a very difficult task on Friday to go
- 17:21Speaker 5: play his best ball in a game that he has
- 17:23Speaker 5: to play his best ball because there's someone behind him
- 17:26Speaker 5: or equal to him that he's playing his best ball.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Competition brings the best out of everybody, and this is
- 17:31Speaker 2: a highly competitive situation with those two guys. So we'll
- 17:34Speaker 2: see what happens. But again, it's going to be interesting development.
- 17:39Speaker 1: It leads in pretty nicely to who I think your
- 17:41Speaker 1: happy camper might be. Dough.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not to jump on the bandwagon. That's why,
- 17:47Speaker 2: thank you very much, but yeah, Joey Aguilar's my guy,
- 17:50Speaker 2: and I was impressed with him in the beginning. I
- 17:52Speaker 2: came out here and watched the rookie mini camp. I
- 17:54Speaker 2: watched OTAs. I like this guy's ability to make all
- 17:58Speaker 2: the throws. He's got the abilities and a capability he
- 18:01Speaker 2: can get out of trouble, and the fact I just
- 18:03Speaker 2: watched his poise and his confidence and running the offense.
- 18:07Speaker 2: When he's got the opportunity, he comes out. He's one
- 18:10Speaker 2: for one with a great great throws we talked about
- 18:12Speaker 2: in the first game against New Orleans, and then are
- 18:15Speaker 2: you kidding me? You know this pass game against Carolina,
- 18:17Speaker 2: he's nine for ten for one hundred and thirty yards.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Again adjusting at the line of scrimmage, checking off I
- 18:23Speaker 2: just thought, man, I don't know if I've ever seen
- 18:25Speaker 2: anybody have a better start as a rookie quarterback in
- 18:29Speaker 2: game situations. So I like a lot of what he
- 18:32Speaker 2: brings to the table. As I mentioned, he had a
- 18:34Speaker 2: lot of success really only one year in Joshhipe's offense
- 18:38Speaker 2: at Tennessee. He transferred i think from UCLA and comes
- 18:42Speaker 2: in and runs an offense it's as high powered as
- 18:44Speaker 2: any in the country. A lot of talent with this guy.
- 18:47Speaker 5: And as we know, with Liam Cohen's system, because Trevor
- 18:49Speaker 5: Lawrence told us it's a complicated system.
- 18:52Speaker 4: It takes time. You're talking about a guy who comes
- 18:54Speaker 4: from a complicated system in college football.
- 18:56Speaker 5: It appears like he's got the upside to be able
- 18:59Speaker 5: to be a backup quarterback in this league.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Well, I think he's also you know, he's demonstrated he's
- 19:03Speaker 2: a good decision maker. He made the decision as a
- 19:05Speaker 2: free agent to come here and be tutored by Liam Cohen,
- 19:08Speaker 2: a guy that's had great success with obviously Baker Mayfield
- 19:11Speaker 2: and Tampa and currently with our guy Trevor Lawrence here.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So great decision making by this guy. I'm excited to
- 19:17Speaker 2: see this guy.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Develop absolutely, and when we look at roster building from
- 19:21Speaker 1: the team's perspective, if he's the third quarterback, he can
- 19:24Speaker 1: run your scout team well because he's talented and he
- 19:27Speaker 1: clearly picks things up quickly. So I feel like that's
- 19:29Speaker 1: very helpful. I would imagine when you're prepping your defense
- 19:31Speaker 1: week to week.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I would love to have this guy. I mean again,
- 19:34Speaker 2: his ability to run to run stpable plays if you
- 19:38Speaker 2: will extend plays again, makes all the throws. Oh, he'd
- 19:41Speaker 2: be a perfect guy to have on the look team
- 19:44Speaker 2: that you're going to face each and every week.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Love it all right, Duff, who's your unhappy camp or
- 19:48Speaker 1: who has some stuff to work on it least?
- 19:50Speaker 2: You know, I've kind of been waiting to see more
- 19:52Speaker 2: from Albert Regis, you know, in the defensive line in
- 19:55Speaker 2: an area that we really, you know, need some help.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I mean, I look for him to be a guy
- 19:59Speaker 2: that could add to the rush material wise, we were
- 20:01Speaker 2: like twenty seventh in terms of efficiency and interior rush
- 20:05Speaker 2: pretty strong outside obviously with our two edge guys and
- 20:08Speaker 2: DJ Green Strigaw added to that group. But I just
- 20:12Speaker 2: he's been a little too inconsistent for me right now.
- 20:14Speaker 2: So I hope that this guy really, you know, it
- 20:18Speaker 2: comes forth if he gets an opportunity playing may not,
- 20:20Speaker 2: but I just I want to see more out of
- 20:22Speaker 2: him right now. I had high hopes with him. He's flashed,
- 20:25Speaker 2: so I don't mean to, you know, put a lid
- 20:27Speaker 2: on him, but I just I want to see We
- 20:29Speaker 2: need this guy to be a factor for us in
- 20:32Speaker 2: that defensive interior, which I like what I saw out
- 20:34Speaker 2: of Matt Dickerson. He's continued to play, but we need
- 20:37Speaker 2: some added help here from.
- 20:39Speaker 4: From Albert and we'll find out what you know, where
- 20:41Speaker 4: he's at. That's off tissue injury.
- 20:43Speaker 1: He's banged up as well, so we haven't seen him
- 20:45Speaker 1: much of him lately either. Yeah, and I think with
- 20:48Speaker 1: that position group, I know Matt Dickerson had a great
- 20:50Speaker 1: day of practice. They love him. To him, he's already
- 20:53Speaker 1: a starter in their minds, so we just maybe more
- 20:55Speaker 1: of a not a developmental piece. But also he's a
- 20:58Speaker 1: big man, but he's playing against big men, so maybe
- 21:01Speaker 1: this is a second year contribution once he gets in
- 21:03Speaker 1: the gym a little bit more, because he's still very
- 21:05Speaker 1: fast and and he can get around really quick, which
- 21:08Speaker 1: I think will work to his advantage this season, but
- 21:11Speaker 1: going on, adding a little more muscle, I think next
- 21:13Speaker 1: season he'll be able to push people around a little
- 21:14Speaker 1: bit more.
- 21:15Speaker 5: We forget you know, when you draft a guy, you've
- 21:17Speaker 5: got him for a couple of years. It's not what
- 21:18Speaker 5: you do in Week one. If you get this week
- 21:21Speaker 5: one right right, you know, good for you, great draft pick,
- 21:24Speaker 5: But it might take him a little bit longer to
- 21:26Speaker 5: build the strength that you're talking about.
- 21:28Speaker 4: It might be a year two guide before stuff.
- 21:32Speaker 2: And really, to be fair, the development oftentimes does take
- 21:35Speaker 2: that amount of time. So I'm just I kind of
- 21:38Speaker 2: wandering to do it now. Producer, No yesterday. So anyway,
- 21:43Speaker 2: Well that kind of a business, isn't it.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see my happy camper. I'm going with Josh Cameron,
- 21:48Speaker 1: the late round pick of wide receiver out of failure,
- 21:51Speaker 1: because I think this franchise has had some great wide
- 21:53Speaker 1: receivers but maybe didn't draft great wide receivers. So this
- 21:56Speaker 1: is kind of a cool process we've gotten into recently. Obviously,
- 21:59Speaker 1: BTJ is a high pick, but Parker Washington what we're
- 22:02Speaker 1: seeing now Josh Cameron a later round pick. CJ. Williams
- 22:04Speaker 1: also has been flashing a ton in training camp, and
- 22:07Speaker 1: I think for me, what's exciting about Josh Cameron's addition
- 22:09Speaker 1: to this roster is he's physical. He'll go up and
- 22:12Speaker 1: get it. What have we been talking about for at
- 22:13Speaker 1: least the past two years. They don't have a guy
- 22:15Speaker 1: that can do that right now, at least not in
- 22:16Speaker 1: the wide receiver. You have Front and Strange as a
- 22:18Speaker 1: tight end. But Josh Cameron goes up and gets the
- 22:20Speaker 1: ball like he's gonna fight for it, and he's physical
- 22:22Speaker 1: and he comes down with it. And he had a
- 22:23Speaker 1: crazy one hander the other day. It's almost every day
- 22:25Speaker 1: a practice he's making a crazy catch. And just having
- 22:28Speaker 1: that reliability someone that Trevor's already showing trust in as
- 22:31Speaker 1: a rookie, which I mean, if you can earn trust
- 22:33Speaker 1: that quickly, that's amazing. And having the opportunity to bring
- 22:37Speaker 1: something different to the wide receiver room that already is
- 22:39Speaker 1: very dynamic, I think, but just being able to you know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: depending on the defense you're playing, Golpen get the football,
- 22:44Speaker 1: it's going to be huge.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Well, he's very comfortable over the middle of the field.
- 22:47Speaker 5: That's where he made plays during training camp and in
- 22:50Speaker 5: both of the preseason games. And I'm going to sound
- 22:52Speaker 5: like a scout here, and I don't mean to pretend
- 22:54Speaker 5: that I am one.
- 22:55Speaker 4: But he looks the ball into.
- 22:58Speaker 5: His hands and then he has strong hands and he
- 23:01Speaker 5: snatches the ball out of the air. He makes it
- 23:04Speaker 5: his But rarely do you see him look up or
- 23:06Speaker 5: down or think about what he's he gets the ball first.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I love both of your assessment of the guy.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I mean, he's been impressed. He doesn't look like a
- 23:14Speaker 2: rookie in terms of how he practices and plays. Plus
- 23:17Speaker 2: he's going to be an added factor in special teams.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I think he's training right now. Perhaps is a personal protector.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So you've got to have physicality, quick decision making ability,
- 23:27Speaker 2: good communication skills to do that. Again, I'm with you.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I think that was a great pick and a guy
- 23:33Speaker 2: that should be happy camp.
- 23:35Speaker 5: He'll play on all four special teams I'm hearing, which
- 23:38Speaker 5: tells you what they think about it, and.
- 23:39Speaker 1: He's certainly willing to do it. He's a walk on
- 23:42Speaker 1: earning a scholarship. He's always had to work for it,
- 23:44Speaker 1: so I think he's clearly going to be doing that
- 23:46Speaker 1: here to get his reps wherever he can get him
- 23:48Speaker 1: from unhappy camper for me. And this is not a
- 23:51Speaker 1: negative by any means. But it's Caleb Bransaw who's entering
- 23:54Speaker 1: his second season, but he got hurt so early in
- 23:56Speaker 1: training camp last year. I think in some ways we
- 23:58Speaker 1: have to evaluate him sort of as a rook because
- 24:00Speaker 1: he hasn't played and he hasn't participated. And it isn't
- 24:03Speaker 1: a negative in the sense of I think he's doing
- 24:05Speaker 1: anything bad, but he hasn't popped to me as much. Which, yes,
- 24:09Speaker 1: that's a position where maybe you say no news is
- 24:12Speaker 1: good news. Maybe he's knocking up I don't know. I'm
- 24:15Speaker 1: just saying I see Jalen Husky a lot more. I
- 24:17Speaker 1: see Rayon Lane on special teams more. And I have
- 24:19Speaker 1: to look around sometimes and try to find Caleb Bransaw
- 24:22Speaker 1: as opposed to him showing out to me where he's
- 24:25Speaker 1: making his presence felt. And maybe Duff, you look at
- 24:29Speaker 1: the film a little bit more, maybe you can break
- 24:30Speaker 1: it down exactly. But I feel like he's still learning
- 24:34Speaker 1: his way, and I think it's a good reminder to
- 24:36Speaker 1: us that it is second year, but he didn't play
- 24:38Speaker 1: last year.
- 24:39Speaker 2: No, I think you're positioning him much like the rookies
- 24:43Speaker 2: is accurate as heck and you know at that position
- 24:45Speaker 2: right now. Again, sometimes when you don't hear about him
- 24:48Speaker 2: too much, it's a good thing. But I'm with you.
- 24:50Speaker 2: He needs to be allowed with his play. I mean,
- 24:52Speaker 2: he's trying to make a mark, trying to find his
- 24:54Speaker 2: way to get playing time, and so every opportunity you
- 24:58Speaker 2: get right now, you want to healthfully be a flash
- 25:00Speaker 2: or allowed player. And we got to see that from
- 25:02Speaker 2: I'm with you on that, but I think you're putting
- 25:04Speaker 2: them in the drawer of kind of a rookie because
- 25:06Speaker 2: of this health situate. Which situation coming in is accurate.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Here's the one thing he's got going in his favorite
- 25:11Speaker 5: He right now is the starting gunner on punt team
- 25:14Speaker 5: and on kickoff.
- 25:15Speaker 4: So he has earned a place there.
- 25:17Speaker 5: On special teams, they know what he is, but when
- 25:19Speaker 5: you're a second round pick, you got to be more
- 25:21Speaker 5: than that. So he and Husky are in a battle
- 25:24Speaker 5: for the third safety. The fourth safety is ran life
- 25:26Speaker 5: because of what he does on special teams. You got
- 25:29Speaker 5: two guys who are third round picks and both of
- 25:32Speaker 5: them are fighting for this job. And it's pretty clear
- 25:37Speaker 5: that Husky has played better on defense, but the special
- 25:42Speaker 5: team side is on Ransaws side right now, So where
- 25:45Speaker 5: does it go? We're going to find out Friday night, right,
- 25:48Speaker 5: Caleb has to have a big game and Husky has
- 25:51Speaker 5: to show on special teams.
- 25:52Speaker 2: But see that's why this the setup, the way they've
- 25:55Speaker 2: organized the preseason games is ideal for that. You know
- 25:58Speaker 2: that's going to come to ruition. So I look forward
- 26:01Speaker 2: to seeing that.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Have both gonna play a lot.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna be a good battle for sure. Say
- 26:05Speaker 1: with us here, we'll tell you what's coming up the
- 26:06Speaker 1: rest of the week at practice.
- 26:14Speaker 3: But when it's somebody else, it's like I don't don't
- 26:19Speaker 3: don't like you, and I don't want to know who
- 26:22Speaker 3: you are. I don't want to check on your family.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I don't want to see how you're doing out there.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Like I'm here to do what's being called at a
- 26:29Speaker 3: very high level and make the players that I'm supposed
- 26:31Speaker 3: to make. And so that's what type of energy and
- 26:34Speaker 3: that's the type of things we get during you know,
- 26:37Speaker 3: during these joint practice one on ones is you know,
- 26:39Speaker 3: we go right, first thing we do at this at
- 26:41Speaker 3: the endies right to one of ones, get your mind ready,
- 26:44Speaker 3: And for me, that's a good mindset builder for me,
- 26:47Speaker 3: just just win.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Josh Hans Allen talking about mentality going into joint practice.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I do not like you, and he's going up against them,
- 26:55Speaker 1: so it's a little bit different when you're going against
- 26:57Speaker 1: your team. Of course, still want to win, but I
- 26:59Speaker 1: think that petition level is going to go up. And
- 27:01Speaker 1: we talked about Liam Cohen's old team and he used
- 27:04Speaker 1: to work for and all that that goes into it.
- 27:06Speaker 1: So I'm expecting it to maybe get a little spicy,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but also some good work.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Got to give you an observation and listened.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Josh Einz Allen has always been a big physical specimen.
- 27:15Speaker 5: He was wearing a T shirt in a production meeting
- 27:17Speaker 5: that we had in New Orleans. He looks like a
- 27:19Speaker 5: superhero this year. I mean every muster is defined, right,
- 27:23Speaker 5: I mean he he looks better than ever after eight years,
- 27:27Speaker 5: and that speaks to his level of intensity and motivation.
- 27:31Speaker 4: I just think he's ready for this year.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I think he is too. I think he's
- 27:35Speaker 2: on a mission for sure.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I think felt like last year was so so and
- 27:39Speaker 2: I saw where he's sitting in his second year in
- 27:42Speaker 2: the system. He's always had big production, which he did before,
- 27:45Speaker 2: so I think he's on a mission to be productive,
- 27:49Speaker 2: to be a real force on the defense.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Either that or he's finally heard all of us talking
- 27:53Speaker 5: about Trayvon and how impressive trade on his as a
- 27:56Speaker 5: large human being, and he decided, you know what, let
- 27:57Speaker 5: me show you something.
- 27:58Speaker 1: They're both pretty big guys and they're both hell which
- 28:00Speaker 1: is great to hear going into the season as well.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Two days of joint training camp this week, Duff, how
- 28:05Speaker 1: do you kind of do you try to hedge it
- 28:06Speaker 1: back a little bit day one so you still have
- 28:08Speaker 1: some energy for day two because they're going padded practices,
- 28:11Speaker 1: or do you just go all out day one and
- 28:12Speaker 1: see what you get.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I like what coach Cohen said yesterday in the presser.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I think he said, you know, we're going to structure
- 28:18Speaker 2: it much like we did the first day or the
- 28:20Speaker 2: only day to join against Carolina, and then maybe use
- 28:24Speaker 2: the second day to be determined and then see where
- 28:27Speaker 2: we are health wise. I think he said they we're
- 28:29Speaker 2: going to do maybe more skilled work seven on seven
- 28:31Speaker 2: and what have you. But I think he's going to
- 28:33Speaker 2: come out with blazing tomorrow with a lot of good work. Again.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I really reflected on the great work I saw when
- 28:40Speaker 2: they did against Carolina physical, our run game got going good.
- 28:43Speaker 2: We had great red zone work, which they've done. And
- 28:46Speaker 2: then the special teams drills that he farwelled came up with.
- 28:49Speaker 2: In terms of the coverage, they did punt protection and
- 28:52Speaker 2: punt coverage a dozen snaps of each at game speed.
- 28:56Speaker 2: You priceless. You can't get that in maybe four or
- 28:58Speaker 2: five preseason game. So I think what they're going to
- 29:01Speaker 2: gain from this the competition, the one on one work,
- 29:04Speaker 2: they're going to get, the unit work, they're going to get,
- 29:06Speaker 2: special teams works excellent.
- 29:08Speaker 5: I think if they get the work done like they
- 29:11Speaker 5: did last week against Carolina, you could see them take
- 29:15Speaker 5: Wednesday's practice and make it look like yesterday's practice, right,
- 29:18Speaker 5: dial it back a little bit shells and not full pads.
- 29:22Speaker 1: So you got to do that in the day one.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Otherwise I think Day two is going to be a reconding.
- 29:25Speaker 1: They don't see what they want to see.
- 29:26Speaker 5: I mean Liam has made it pretty clear and last
- 29:28Speaker 5: week on Monday when he left the door open, hey
- 29:30Speaker 5: I might place them with.
