Transcript
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: You were listening to the objective jerk, and I am that jerk.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: See that changed it up a little bit.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Happy Easter.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Easter for me was yesterday, but still.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Happy Resurrection Day, right?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So for three.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: So we just did our third year now.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: We go to the beach.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know why we don't go to the beach more often.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I'd rather go when it's not as hot.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Because the water, the water here is so salty, it's like it's not very cold.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Like we were in the water, I was with my wife, and she was liking the warm spots, but I was liking all the cold spots, you know.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Hopefully she wasn't like going in piss or something.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: But but yeah, so we just hang out, eat some food, and be at the beach as a family, you know, her family mainly.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Well, my family too.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: I married her, so but it's vastly different.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, yes, I'm Catholic now.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Like I'm a practicing Catholic.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: I try and pray the rosary every day.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I don't, but I try.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: And I go to mass every week.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I miss a week, but for the most part, we do go.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: During Holy Week, we went multiple times.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: And I I enjoy it.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: It's hot, you know, and certain things, but I'm glad that I'm doing it and everything like that.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: And it's vastly different than the Easters I used to have in the States.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: And those were fun too.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: You know, we used to do the typical hiding the eggs and getting the basket with the treats and stuff.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: And of course the kids loved it when they're young, getting all the stuff.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: And it's cool and it's fun, and I have good memories, and so do the kids.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: But I'm glad that it's now more focused on Jesus and his resurrection, you know.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: My kids are all baptized, they, you know, they go to mass, but they go when well, my two kids go to the school that's connected to it, so they'll go to mass occasionally for school.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: But basically, you know, we gotta take our kids.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: What I want is my kids to go to want to go on their own, not because you know, me or their mom was like, come on, we're going to mass.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I feel it's a little hypocritical of me because I wasn't like that until way older, you know what I mean?
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: So I'm expecting different things from my kids than what I but you know that's the point, right?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: You're supposed to you're supposed to try and influence and inspire and teach your kids a better way of life, I guess, right?
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: So I so that's also up with me.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: So this podcast is gonna, I'm gonna read an interview, or not an interview, but an article that was on Police One, that was posted on Police One, because I I briefly mentioned this, I think, on my last podcast, because I did record a podcast talking about this, but it was horrible.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: You know, I started on Wikipedia, which didn't have hardly you know, not much information, and it was kind of like watered down to not make the guy, the bad guy, be as bad, I guess.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Because then I read another article and it was like, what?
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Oh hold on a second, and I was it just wasn't very good, and then I didn't have the video, and you know, so I was like, you know what?
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: I want to do a better version of this, so I deleted it all, but I recorded a different podcast, my last one, but so here I am.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: So I'm just gonna read this article, and I came across this I think it was TikTok or something.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: I was doom scrolling, and and I saw the clip of the ambush, and it was just like, whoa, what is this?
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: When did this happen?
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: You know, I don't remember hearing about this, and so then you know it made me interested, and then that became my you know, my true crime, because sometimes I do true crimes, so and so that's you know, and plus law enforcement too.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I like to maybe share, not that I'm like an expert, but I did do I did work in law enforcement and did training and created training and did some stuff.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: So I mean I have some what you'd call it, like I don't I don't call myself an expert, but I'm you know I'm a I'm a I'm a veteran of it, I guess you could say I don't know.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to think of the levels on like a game when you play.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: So you got like I think veterans are hardest, right?
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: So like on a on a shooter game or something.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: So I just I kind of like to watch some of these and maybe just kind of throw in some points of you know possible the actions that you know law enforcement may take and why they do or don't or whatever, you know.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Maybe a little critiquing, but it's kind of hard to you know, if you're not there, it's easy to critique here sitting in this chair watching a video.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Oh well, I would have done this, you know, as opposed to being there.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: But I've been involved in some some hairy stuff things in my life, mostly when I was in the army in Iraq.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: But anyway, I'm trying to think if there was I mean I had a couple civilian uh encounters, but they I think they turned out not to be much.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to think.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna get into it.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Let's get into it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: So again, this is on police one.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Ambush that killed two Connecticut officers in 2022 was targeted act of violence.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Inspector General says, yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Bristol Police Lieutenant Dustin DeMonte and Sergeant Alex Hamsey died in an ambush after a suspect using a fake 911 call to allure officers following a traffic stop.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: So generally when I do these, I do them for like my it's like a reaction.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I guess they're like reaction videos for me, but reading the first time.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: But now I kind of I kind of know the background.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: I've watched the video.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: I edited it down because I'm gonna have that at the end of this so you can see it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: And I'll kind of talk about it, but it's not a reaction because I've seen it.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna try not to put in my thoughts as I'm reading this article.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna read the article as it is for the most part.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know, I'll probably say something I always do.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: The reason I always say something too because my brain sucks.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: So I'll forget.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So if I'm like reading it and I'm like, ooh, I got a good remark, but I'll save it for later.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Then I'll forget.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: I won't say it.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: So anyway, let's get on.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Bristol, Connecticut.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: The Bristol Police Department has unveiled a permanent memorial honoring Sergeant Alex Hamsey and Lieutenant Dustin De Monte.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Two officers killed in the line of duty on October 2022.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: The tribute was revealed one day before the second anniversary of their deaths.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: The centerpiece of the memorial features preserved doors from a police cruiser that had served as a public tribute outside the department following the tragedy, according to the report.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: The cruiser had been covered in messages from the community and now serves as a lasting symbol of remembrance in the department's lobby.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: This door display will serve as a testament to our commitment as an agency to never forget the sacrifice that Dustin and Alex made.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Chief said, Family members of both officers were present in the ceremony.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I'm just glad that people remember him, said the cousin of Bill Haimsey.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: That's important to me.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: The display was acknowledged the bravery of Alex, Officer Alex Lorato, or Alt, who was wounded in the ambush and returned fire at killing the gunman, according to the report.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And you'll see that in the video.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: What happens with him and stuff like that.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Chief remarked as truly remarkable human beings who embodied compassion and dedication to their service.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Alright, so here's the original story.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Nearly two years after two local police officers were killed, and wait, hold on.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm reading the same thing.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: I want to read the actual okay, yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna start right here.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: That's basically I've read over it.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: They ambushed the fake, but this is kind of the backstory.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: And a lot of the video you'll see the officers that pull this individual over, they weren't even the ones that went to the 911 call, you know.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: So anyway, so it all started off at a bar fight, bleachers.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: In the hours before the shooting, Brutcher and his brother Nathan, so you had what was his name?
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Nicholas.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: So you had Nicholas and Nathan Brutcher.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: They went to a local bar around 7 p.m.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Brutcher was planning to perform stand-up comedy at the bar's open mic.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: And when you watch the video of him when they're pulled over and they're dealing with him, he's intoxicated, he's angry, but he's still kind of you could I guess you could kind of see him being trying to be open mic, kind of whatever.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, he doesn't really do anything funny, but I remember I've dealt with people like this individual and but I'll talk about that more later.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: But anyway, while sitting at the bar, Nicholas Brutcher got into a fight with another Patreon, Patron.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I said that right, patron.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: The altercation began when the other Patreon put his arm around Brutcher, who reacted by elbowing the man in the face.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Jeez.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: The fight then spewed outside into the parking lot, and police were called.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: When officers arrived, witnesses pointed out that Brutcher brothers were driving away.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: And that's where the video kind of starts.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: When the No, no, no, the video shows a little bit of the altercation, and then it shows the responding officer pulling up to the bar.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: The other man involved in the fight also told officers he did not want to press charges.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: See that right there might have saved those officers' lives.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: If he would have pressed charges, then they would have been arrested there at the traffic stop, and none of that would have happened.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: But you know, I mean, that's life, dude.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Sulha, coulda, woulda.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: As I'm reading this, I haven't read this article yet.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: I did skim through and see, okay, it looks like it's got everything.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: But it's like you kind of see some of the things, the littlest thing that could have altered, you know, the outcome of that night.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: DeMonte and Homsey and Lorada were not among the officers who responded to the bar or the traffic stop, which I said earlier.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: One of the officers who arrived pulled over the Brutcher brothers' truck as they were leaving.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Nathan Brutcher was driving, and both men were quote unquote highly agitated and making rude remarks to officers on the scene, which you'll see in the video.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: And I don't show all of it.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: I just I it's kind of a long video.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: I cut it way down.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Because Nathan Brutcher was driving with a suspended license, the truck was towed.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Both men became irate at the officers during the stop, yelling and cursing at them to the point where both were ticketed for creating a public disturbance.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: And see, right there, if they just would have been like, you know what, let's take these guys in, they're intoxicated, they're whatever this nap that might have, that decision right there might have, you know, or would have, you know, saved those other officers' lives.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Their butcher's mother was asked to come pick them up.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: But Nicholas Brutcher refused to get in the car and instead left on foot, the report said.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: And their mother later returned and apologized to one of the officers for her son's behavior and indicated she'd pick him up and bring him home.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And then the the other thing I read last time when I was recording the podcast was like he was mad because officers didn't want to let him go.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: But, you know, that's kind of if something happened to him, like if he's walking down the road and he's drunk and he gets hit by a car, they might try and, you know, blame the officers for letting him go and not give him a ride or, you know, whatever, even though he didn't want to ride.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: So they get home.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Brutcher placed a 9-1 call at 10 30 p.m.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: that lured police to the ambush at his Redstone Hill Road home, the report said.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: In that video, it has his 9-1-1 call.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Again, it's kind of long, but it's in there as well.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: After being picked up by his mother and returning home from the traffic stop, Rutherford immediately began putting on his camouflage, preparing his weapons.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Man, I hear my dogs barking.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Make sure there's nobody out front.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, they bark at everything, which is which is good.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Well, that's really loud.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Let me see.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm good.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: They're barking at there's this tom cat that always hangs, they always bark at it.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: He began putting on his camouflage, preparing his weapons, and within 30 minutes placed the call to 911 to lure officers to his home, Delvin wrote in the report.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Delvin released the audio of the 911 call during which Nicholas Brutcher claimed his brother needed help and had become aggressive after the traffic stopped.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Quote, we got into an altercation with the patrol officers earlier on in the night, and he's just carrying on about it.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: End quote.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Nicholas told the dispatchers according to the audio.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: So he calls the audio and it's like and it's I guess it's probably a smaller town, but he's kind of probably assuming that everyone knows what happened.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Because it was a big deal to them.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And it seems like he's kind of frustrated and annoyed that the the the not the dispatcher is not aware of, you know what I mean?
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, we were the ones that okay, who was it?
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: And it's like, what the crap, man?
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: I gotta explain the whole thing.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: That's why the 911 call is kind of long.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: At another point, Nicholas claimed Nathan Britcher had become aggressive with, quote, anybody that he had come in contact with, end quote.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: During the call, Butcher claimed that there were no weapons in his home, but police were advised by dispatchers that he had weapons registered to him.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: So I briefly worked as a dispatcher, and yeah, you always look that up and it'll tell you.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: You know, so that right there though, kind of should be I don't know, I wonder if they noticed that or they caught that.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Again, it's easier to say, you know, critique from the from the armchair, but you know, the fact that he didn't he said there was no weapons and they had him registered might be a sign of something.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: But, you know, when DeMonty, Hamsey, and Lorado arrived at the home, they encountered Nathan Brutcher at a side door and ordered him to come outside.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: So this is the other brother.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: As he came out, Nicholas Brutcher, who was hiding in the bushes on the adjacent property, so it's like there was a house that they had or he had, and then his parents had the house next to him, opened fire on the three officers with an AR-15, the report said.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: All three officers were hit, along with Nathan Brutcher, his brother.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: The report said Hamsey fell during the hail of gunfire, while DeMonty and Lorato were wounded but managed to get away.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: DeMonte, mortally wounded, went into the rear yard of the home, turned and encountered Butcher's father, then made his way back to the driveway and collapsed, the report said.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Lorato, who had been shot in the leg, maneuvered behind the home and radioed for help.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: He then made his way to Hamsey's parked cruiser in front of the property.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: After the ambush, Nicholas Butcher emerged from his hiding spot in front of the neighboring home where his parents lived and approached the two fallen officers.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Brutcher's parents, who had come outside and in the rear yard of their home, saw what happened next.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Devlin wrote in the report.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Brutcher proceeded to stand over each officer and fire multiple shots into them.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: First Sergeant DeMonte, then Officer Hamsey.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Hamsey, while his mother screamed at him and stopped to screamed at him to stop.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: And you can hear all this in the video.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Like it's pretty.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: And they didn't when I first read this on Wikipedia, it didn't say nothing like this.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: So he went up and executed, even though maybe they were dying anyway, but he went up and executed him and he unloaded.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: You hear the gunshots going on from the body cam of I want to get his name right.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: The officer who got hit in the leg and then ran around.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: So as he's calling in, hold on a second.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, I scrolled down.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Let's see after the ambush.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Where's he at?
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, Lorado.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Scream to him.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Rutcher's AR-15 stopped firing after he inserted a magazine backward, the report said.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: He then drew a handgun and continued firing.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a lot, dude.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: He's just unloading on them.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Straight up execution.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: And that kind of bothers me.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Like when people are I don't know.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Like when you see the videos of Al Qaeda or whatever, and they got people tied up and they just start cutting their throats or whatever.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: When people like I'm for capital punishment.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: But like when people are detained or held hostage or whatever or executed in that manner, I don't know, it always kind of bothered me to just I don't know.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, when you're in the thralls of of combat and I mean I I didn't have this happen to me, but I thought about it a lot, you know.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: But I would, you know, if there was a bunch of bad guys trying to kill us and we got them down and we're in there and there's somebody, I would, you know, take the executing shot to make sure that they don't get up and fight or whatever, you know what I mean?
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: But that's war.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: I didn't I wouldn't like it.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: I'm sure if that happened to me, it would bother me.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: But so that kind of always bothers me, just being, you know, so those cops are down, one's probably bleeding out, the other, you know what I mean?
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: And he just goes up and just unloads on him.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: That just bothers me.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: During this time, Nicholas Brutcher yelled, How proud are are you of me?
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: How proud, the report said.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: It's unclear from the report whether the comments were directed at his parents.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it was.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Lorado then fired one shot at Brutcher from his position behind Hamzi's cruiser.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: The bullet struck Butcher at the base of his skull, killing him.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: It's a it's pretty epic shot, man.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Like it's you watch the video and he just and then you know it's like, dude, that was it.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: That was nice.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: I had a I mean it was training, so I'm not, you know.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: But we used I used to be on SRT, which people that listen to my podcast know.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: And we used to train with sim rounds, which were like bullets that had less gunpowder, so less velocity, but it would shoot little things of like detergent, you know what I mean?
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: So it hurt, especially if you're close.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: They had better range and accuracy than paintball.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: And what do you you just changed out the barrel and your weapons and you could use them, load up your magazine and everything and do training and stuff, and it was pretty fun.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: But I was always a pretty good shot.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: And I remember taking like I was in the front.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: I wasn't was I had the shield.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: No, I think I was just where was I?
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: It's like I think we were in a wedge, and I I don't think I was a shield, I think I was next to the shield.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: And then so the other guys were coming down the hall, and then like I shot my pistol, and it was like long.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: And then one of the guys dude was like, dude, you hit me straight in the face.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, we had you know they had protective gear and stuff like that, but I was a pretty good shot.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: I was pretty good, close quarters, wasn't the best, you know.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: I made mistakes and this and that, but it wasn't bad.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: I haven't shot in so long, though, man.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: I'd probably be horrible.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Anyway, yeah, I had to sell all my guns when I moved here to the Philippines.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: That was kind of hard.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Anyway, police seized four guns from the scene: the stag arms AR-15, a Remington bolt action rifle police found in the bushes, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun left by the entrance to the home that police found before the shooting, and the Glock handgun Butcher was holding when he was killed.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Butcher, whose friends, described as a gun enthusiast, purchased the Glock December 2012, five days after Sandy Hook's shooting.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: The AR-15 meant the legal definition of the assault weapon under state law.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: According to Devlin's report, while Butcher purchased the gun legally in 2010, he did not apply for a certificate of position possession with the state prior to the deadline to 2014, making the gun illegal for him to possess.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: The report noted the large capacity magazine he used in the shooting were also illegal.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Because it was 30 round?
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: It looked like a regular, regular 30 round mag.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: That's considered large capacity.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: I thought it was like drums and stuff.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Alright, possible motive.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Devlin's report noted Brutcher fired 83 rounds during the incident and showed no signs of stopping.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's brutal.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: You'll see in the video.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Or here.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: He posed a grave threat to Officer Lorado and any responding officers.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: It was of paramount importance to stop that threat.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Under these circumstances, Lorato used of deadly force was justified.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: There's no question.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: The report noted at the time Nicholas Butcher was under enormous stress.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: So a lot of people are stressed, man.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Butcher was questioning his sexuality.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: What?
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Questioning his sexuality.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Is that why he elbowed the guy?
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Was the other guy gay?
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: And he was like fighting it.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Are you kind of starting to see a commonality between, you know, perverse living, you know, trans, gay, whatever, just having detrimental effects on mental, you know?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: I just a big burly dude.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't think he was questioning his sexuality, but whatever.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: And he was in the midst of contentious long distance relationship with a woman who claimed who he may have got her pregnant.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Another woman was due to give birth to his child.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Damn.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: See?
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Christianity, man.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Find Jesus.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Anyway, child in the same month.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, his ex-girl, his ex-wife gave birth that same day.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Damn, dude.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: See, this is why see this kind of crap right here, though.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: This is why Christianity pushes the you know, no, don't have premarital sex.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Wait until you find the person that you and then get married and then have children.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: So that way you don't have multiple children, multiple children from multiple spouses.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Creates the world where we we live in, you know.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: And I can't talk about dude.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I had premarital sex and you know, but luckily I was Hey, I'm doing a podcast.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, retarded children.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: But all my kids are from my wife, and you know, I never so that's I'm grateful for that.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Anyway, their relationship had caused Brutcher to spiral downward.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Devlin wrote in the report, drinking heavily and taking antidepressants.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Again, there's another one, antidepressants, you know, and again, I've taken them, and I'm actually taking them again right now, like a low dose of something, because I've been talking to my doctor that I just kind of feel like I've I've progressed, but then I've kind of hit a wall.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: So and I told him I was like, I don't want to take anything I took before because I didn't like it, and I want to be like a low dose, something that might help my current situation.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: So that's what I'm doing.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: But it just started though, so we'll see.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: But I don't like it.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, not for very long.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Anyway, an autopsy revealed Brutch's blood, alcohol at the time of the shooting was about three times over the legal limit to drive.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: And he also had THC and cocaine.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: The numerous stressors in brut uh Nicholas's life, coupled with his heavy substance use and perceived grievance from the traffic stop, are probable motivated.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, but still, whatever.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that's that's it.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: We're at 25 minutes.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: So now I gotta time this right.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: So I gotta pull up the video and I'm gonna watch it, and then I'll add it to the video.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Does that make sense?
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Because I oh what did I oh no, I did edit it down.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: So hold on a second.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: I gotta find it.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, here we go.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: This is it right here, right?
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: How long is it?
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna open it up and then I'll just play it with my video and comment.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: I can hear my my wife and all the kids, what are you doing?
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: But I'm not gonna stop it because it's not gonna work, so I have to just let it play out.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Because I'm recording my video from a different I might have to change all that stuff again.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: But anyway.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Alright, so here's the video, but I wanna turn it down just to smidge in so it's not too loud.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Anyway, so the video starts with it looks like the other brother fighting with some guy.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: But maybe it's Nicholas.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: So the first part, there's no audio because it's just the security cam.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looks like it's his brother trying to, and then the guy, Nicholas, is getting his shirt ripped off.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: And so this guy's there, you know, you have people trying to stop, probably security at the bar.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: You got a bunch of people outside walking in the parking lot.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: There's some girls.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Now you see Nicholas like really trying to go after this guy, and he's angry, his shirt's off, he's pissed off, his brother's trying to stop him, plus someone else.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, whoa.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: So now here's the when officers arrive, witnesses point out.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: If you move, you are going to be placed under arrest for an investigation.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, you stay right here.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: Seven motherfuckers be cops.
- 27:43SPEAKER_04: Mr.
- 27:43SPEAKER_04: McKenzie King.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: See, here he is like talking all these M for trying to be cops.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: So he's trying to be funny and not be minor filmmer.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: I make a fuck ton more money than you do.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Is he jammed?
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: You're telling me?
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Then that's it.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: But you did it to him.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll fucking walk home, dude.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: How does that help me?
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna make it's not gonna make your short ass dick any longer, bro.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: You know, he's really trying to get them to start so then he can just start.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: He doesn't want to be the one to start fighting with the police.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, right there the cop pushed him down.
- 28:26SPEAKER_04: See, right here, you can really I really I really want to hurt you right now.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: So, I'm gonna go.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: And then he just basically threatens the cop.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: The way he's acting here.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know, it's hard to say.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: What is the fucking couple of things?
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Kind of hard to say.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Some people say, like, why didn't they bring him in?
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: Because he's obviously kind of angry and I respect you less than that motherfucker, too.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I'm sure they probably learn from this in the future when they deal with somebody like this.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: They probably just bring him in and let him sleep it off.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Because then you know they go home and then what crap happens.
- 29:27SPEAKER_04: You're no you're the only person who got it.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: He's really trying to provoke the police and be you know you got on your hip, man, motherfucker.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Just being disrespectful like crazy.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: I I used to hate dealing with this kind of crap.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Skytop Motors, towed vehicle.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Butcher, we knew that.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: The driver tells him that there was a 48 hold on the truck.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: Nicholas Butcher then responds, No, there isn't, and then he would see him in the morning.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: So it was like his work truck.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I gotta come pick this car up for me.
- 30:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's a 48-hour hold on it.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: After being picked up by his mother and returning home from the Travis stock, Butcher immediately began putting on his camouflage, preparing his weapons, and in 30 minutes placed the call to 911.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: Which I'm gonna do.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: For example, 911 with the address of the emergency.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: Your officers had an alteration with a man earlier tonight.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: And I don't know if he's good.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, what's the emergency of three Redstone Hill Road?
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: It's not good.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: What's your name?
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: Nicholas.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Nicholas, what's your last name?
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: B-R-U-T-E-H-E-R.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: You called 911.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: What's the emergency at 310 Redstone Hill Road?
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it's necessarily an emergency, but it really does.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: We did shift change.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: I have no idea what you're talking about.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: You called 911.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: What is the emergency?
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: He's really trying to, he doesn't want to make it obvious, I guess.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Listen, we're gonna have an officer come over and see you guys, okay?
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: He's really trying to play the part.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: He was a pretty good bullshitter actor.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, here we go.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Immediately.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: That's three, right there.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Took them out that one shot.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: One down.
- 34:16SPEAKER_04: Suspect down.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Suspect down.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Alright, so there's the aftermath, uh photos that blurred out in the body of the shotgun.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: They got all the numbers for all the different bullet casings.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: There's all the weapons he had.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: You can see the magazine there putting upside down, and you see Nicholas and his was he military?
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: I never even said, but okay, so that's the end of the video.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: So when I see that, what I'm thinking of is like you know, so in that kind of instance, it's like fight or flight, right?
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: You don't he had no idea where the shots were coming from, other than maybe they were to his left or behind him.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: So, and I'm talking about the officer that survived.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: So he makes a break to get some cover, to figure out what's going on, and then you know, continuing the fight.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: That's that's just what you do.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: That's you know, the basic building blocks of that kind of situation, you know.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: You know, he checks his leg.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Maybe if it was bleeding profusely, he would have put a tourniquet on it or something.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: So he checks it, okay, it's not bleeding a lot, and then you know, he goes to get an angle on where they're at, some cover behind the car.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: He was probably thinking maybe to get they probably got an AR-15 in the truck.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I think he was just kind of thinking, and then I think he saw the individual, figured, you know, I got an opportunity and to take the individual out.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: There is no bargaining, there is no, hey, show me your hands, freeze.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: This is the police.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: No, that's done and over with.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: So he took the shot.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: And you gotta sit there and imagine the adrenaline that's going through you at that moment.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: And then, yeah, maybe a little bit wore off a smidgen because he started feeling the leg, the pain, but he still got adrenaline going through him.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: And to take that shot, one shot, and make it like that, that takes repetition and training.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: That's what that is.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of crazy.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so I'm at 36 minutes here, so this is kind of long.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna see how this works.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: I'll put the video in with the video, obviously, and then I'll take the audio from the video for the podcast so you can kind of at least hear what I'm talking about.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Although it's kind of not the greatest to hear, it's pretty gnarly.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: But that's it.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: I just wanted to talk about that and share my thoughts.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: You know could the officers that responded to the domestic, you know, they teach you to like take a second, they teach you not to park right next to the house that you're going to, which they kind of did.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: But I guess it worked out because he was able to use it as cover and then take the shot, or maybe it was like they were thinking maybe it was the next house, because they're the two houses together.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: So they parked a house down, not realizing that they, you know, I don't know.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: But generally they teach you to park a little further away and they kind of approach a little quiet and listen, see what's going on, you know, yelling, fighting, this and that.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: And then you know, but the thing is that they all the only thing I'm gonna critique is is the three individuals just went right up there to the front door.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: Didn't really need to like I think that just kinda that's what do you call it?
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: You know, when you just kinda get bored, you get tired of doing things, you the it's you kind of lock god, I can't think of the word, but you know, you kinda lose your edge, I guess.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: You know, nothing ever happens, so it's like you kind of start like not really you know, worrying about any kind of threat when every every situation when you're on duty you should perceive as a possible threat for you to survive, you know, and that's just that's stressful, you know, and that's why cops end up, you know, drinking a lot, taking their own lives, you know, because you have to keep that level awareness and stress level, really.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: So they they should have they should have kind of maybe had one guy engaged, one guy was over, and then maybe somebody stayed by the truck.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Just, you know, protocol.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: I again it's easy to say sitting here and seeing how it played out and whatever.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: But I'm sure they're probably changing their protocols based on this.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: They probably just like, hey, let's not just maybe one officer knocks on the door, the other one's a little further back, kind of watching his back, and then you have one, you know.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Because they all three walked up there and just right into the ambush, you know.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Sucks.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: But again, I can't say I would have done anything different, you know.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: We get the call.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: You know, hindsight's 2020, so but yeah, it's just kind of it's kinda it sucks that you know there's so many little things that could have happened.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: If the guy would have charged them, they would have been arrested, it wouldn't have happened.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: If maybe the police officers, you know, would have arrested him for instead of just citing him, but arresting him, taking him in, it wouldn't have happened.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: But it could have happened later on though, you know.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: So seemed like it was kind of building up to that.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: It sucks.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: And you know, sucks for the guy, the the douchebag that shot him, you know, going through some crap, although people go through some crap, but you know, substance abuse isn't the answer, man.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's talking to somebody, it's faith.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Faith helps out a lot, man.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: And but still talking, and then you know, if you're Catholic, you can talk, you know, talk to a priest, much like a mental health expert, you know what I mean?
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: So but even though I'm Catholic and I and I have the ability to talk to a priest, having I still have a mental health individual that I talk to with the VA every other month or something like that.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: So it all helps, man.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: It all helps.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's it.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Let me know what you think, and I'll see you guys next time.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Bye.
