- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone and welcome back into another episode of the podcast.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: We're talking today all about the pill, everything you need to know, what it does to your body, tips for coming off, and all of that.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: But first off, I just made the most delicious chaga latte.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I have been obsessed with adding chaga to my lattes.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I went for a walk like last week, and I went to this really trendy place called Nut Bar here in Toronto, and I got a it's called a nut bar latte.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so it's just like espresso steamed nut milk and chaga, and it was so good.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I have all of these things at home.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Like I'm gonna start doing it at home.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Um, so I what I did is I made a shot of decaf espresso.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I added a packet of the four Sigmatic Chaga.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: This episode's not sponsored.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: I mean I've never had anything sponsored on my podcast, but just so you know it's not.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Um, though I will link it down below in case you want it, and then I have it, I did a cold froth um so I can have a bit cooler of a drink because it's really hot in my office right now.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Whether it's hot or whether it's cold, it is so good.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So I highly recommend checking that out.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Um, but before we jump into the episode, I did want to remind you that Wellnourished is now open for enrollment, which is so exciting.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: This is just the early enrollment.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: So, this is if you want to get in where you can pay over a longer period of time, so you do it over four months instead of two, and that way you get access to all of the stuff right now.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: So when we start doing the live calls in a couple months, you have probably already watched a lot of the modules and you can come with your questions and everything like that.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So if you've been wanting to finally get that health and body you crave, if you're tired of like googling things and you just want to feel nourished and satisfied and delicious in your body, say goodbye to bloating and PMS and not knowing what to eat or living for cheat days and feeling restricted and just not seeing the results that you want, and doing the deep emotional work.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I get this all the time.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: People are like, I'm eating 1200 calories a day and I'm not seeing results, and etc.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: It's also because you haven't done the emotional work.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So we need to remember that you know, things like people pleasing, guilt, shame, all of this is tied in our gut health.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: If we're not feeling safe, this is tied to weight loss, and you're not gonna be able to lose weight if you're not feeling safe in your body, and like so many, so many things.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: So, highly recommend checking out Well Nourish if this applies to any of you and you're really looking to optimize your health this year.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: We've got so many wonderful women already enrolled in the program, so I know it's going to be a fantastic round.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, with that being said, let us jump into the episode.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Live Well Podcast.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: This podcast is designed to help you live well, body, mind, and soul.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Liv, a natural health and wellness expert, and each week you will walk away with the insights, tools, and tips to truly live your best life.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: If you are looking to live well, you are in the right place.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: A new episode starts now.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Alright, so like you guys heard in the intro, this podcast episode is gonna be all about the birth control pill, everything you need to know.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: So I get it.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Hormonal birth control, also known as the pill, is easy and effective.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Not only does it accomplish like the job that the name implies, preventing pregnancy, but you know, doctors can sometimes prescribe it for things like irregular pyramids, acne, PMS, and cramps.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: But here's the thing the pill doesn't actually treat any of those things, it is a band-aid.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say that one more time.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And this also applies to PCOS because I have a lot of you um and well-nourished and my one-on-ones who come to me for PCOS help, and their doctor is like, Oh, I'll put you in the pill to fix your PCOS.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: The pill doesn't actually treat any of those things, it is a band-aid.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Once you come off of it, you're gonna have to deal with all those issues, and you might as well fix it now.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: So, what the pill does is it simply masks the symptoms by synthetically altering your hormones, and as soon as you stop taking it, all of those awful symptoms will come screaming back and likely worse than they were before.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So birth control pills aren't really about listening to your body and treating the root cause, they're like that immediate gratification for fixing the problems, much like caffeine fixes energy, or like ambient fixes insomnia, or like duct tape fixes a leaky pipe.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: It is a band-aid approach.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Now, this episode is really meant to give you a lot of information and inform you so that you can make an educated decision for you.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Because oftentimes, you know, so many of my one-on-ones and people in Wellnourish come to me and they're looking to get off the pill, and their doctor, like nobody told them about everything I'm about to tell you in this episode.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: They thought, oh yeah, it'll just solve it, and it doesn't a solve your pridums, but b, it leads to a whole host of other issues, which we're gonna dive into this episode.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: So, this is really for you to make an informed decision and educate you, right?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So that you can make a decision for yourself.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: So the pill is basically what we do when we just want the problem solved.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: We're like, oh, I don't want to wait.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: It's like that weight loss, quick fix, it's like the same kind of thing applies, it's the worst.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Um, because when we ignore these signs that our body is signaling to us, these signs that our body's out of whack, you know, and out of whack by having endometriosis or PCOS or PMS or acne or any of this stuff, you're not actually dealing with what the problem is in the first place.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, it actually comes with some pretty scary and very serious side effects that you know we need to hear about.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: You know, yes, you'll get the possibly the breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, and breakthrough bleeding, but you can also get weight gain, you can get mood swings, suicidal thoughts, plus all of the things that I'm going to dive into this episode.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: But before we dive into all of the detrimental effects, let's kind of go over a little bit of how they work.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: So, how exactly it prevents pregnancy in the first place.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: So, a woman's natural like menstrual cycle is composed of like the rising and falling levels of estrogen and progesterone throughout the month.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: But hormonal birth control pills, whether it's the patch or the shot, all of that, the same thing, keep the estrogen at an unnaturally high level all month long in order to trick your body into thinking that you are already pregnant.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say that one more time because this is important to understand.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: The whatever method it is, pill, patch, shot, keeps your estrogen at an unnaturally high level all month long in order to trick your body into thinking that you are already pregnant, which stops ovulation and that way, you know, no pregnancy can occur.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: So, as you can imagine, the super high estrogen levels are not natural, nor are they safe.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And the estrogen in hormonal birth control is much stronger than the natural estrogen, which can result in fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis, and all of that stuff, which is so ridiculous to me that then people go on the pill to solve these issues when the p pill is contributing to these issues in the first place.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: So there's now like significant evidence um through studies associated with the effects of synthetic hormones and the fact that we shouldn't really be taking them at all.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: So yes, um birth control pills can't contain synthetic hormones which don't have the same effect on your body's natural rhythms, and also causes imbalances and increase in thyroid, sex hormone, bodily and globulin, which is SHBG, which can then like decrease the available testosterone and thyroid hormone, which can lead to a whole host of other issues.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna dive in now deeper into kind of like some reasons you want to think of to go off the pill or reasons why you shouldn't be on it in the first place.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: And I often get the question about whether I have ever been on it.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: I um I have not, but because it was just so unnatural to me ever since I was you know younger, but I have helped um countless women come off of it um and yeah, and heal from it, honestly, because like I said, it's a band-aid, and then we have to like deal with everything coming off of it.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: So number one, the pill increases your risk of cancer.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: So by you know, by taking one of the like the birth control pills, it can reduce your risk of endometrial and ovarian cancer, but there is a link to breast cancer, cervical cancer, and liver cancer.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: And the pill is actually classified by the World Health Organization as a carcinogen.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Putting it in the same class, like in terms of because they rank them, right?
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: They rank the carcinogens um for classes, same level as tobacco and asbestos.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Think about that.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: The pill you are putting in your body every day is actually classified as much as a carcinogen as tobacco and asbestos.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna leave that there and like let you guys know about that, because that is not something I want to be putting into my body every single day.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, then we're gonna dive into the fact that the pill screws up your gut.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, this is I feel like I'm gonna talk a lot about this because gut health is tied to mental health, gut health, it's tied to joint pain, it's tied to, you know, brain fog.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: If you don't have gut health, you have nothing.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: You guys know that by now if you've listened to my content, but the pill screws up your gut.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: So we all know how badly the antibiotics you know that you take can affect your digestive tract.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: But did you know that birth control pills are just as bad as antibiotics for your gut, and you're taking it every single day.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And the pill is throwing your gut out of whack and in the process impairing your basically overall well-being.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: So, first of all, you have hormone receptors everywhere in your digestive tract, and the added hormones in your body from the pill can affect these receptors, often leading to candida, lease infections, IBS, IBD, bloating, so many things.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: But specifically with candida and yeast overgrowth, it has been closely linked to estrogen dominance, which, as we just learned in the body, the pill causes unnaturally high levels of.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: So if you're using hormonal birth control, you might have more yeast infections, you might um have more migraines, infertility issues, fibromyalgia, endo, psoriasis, PMS, depression, digestive disorders, and more.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: But what's even more is that these oral contraceptives really impact your gut flora and adversely affect the estrogen metabolism, which can increase your risk of inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's and cause weight loss resistance.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Meaning on the pill, it can be very difficult to lose weight, whether it's like 50 pounds or those last five pounds, etc.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Whenever I'm doing weight loss, um, whether it's my one-on-one or the one-on-one session that you get with me and well nourished, I always ask if you're on it because that is going to give us a large indication about you know what we can do.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So, also adding to the fact that we're also pumping you with more estrogen.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So if you also have, you know, these diseases already, if you have Crohn's or you have colitis or IBD, and you're using these high-dose synthetic estrogens, you're gonna make your condition worse because you're increasing your risk of forming tiny clots in your gut, basically the gut network of blood vessels.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: This is very, very serious.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: It's gonna make that even worse, let alone predispose you.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Like people who were on oral contraceptives had a 300% increased risk of Crohn's and colitis.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Not to mention, like, even if you get that far, all the host of digestive issues that you're experiencing on it.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: So then we have like all of these estrogen digesting bacteria, which is known as your estrobolum, which have been attributed to conditions like PMS, PCOS, heavy bleeding, infertility, gas, bloating, constipation, acne, and eczema.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Guys, like that that's such a long list.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: That's such a long list.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: And like, this makes sense, right?
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Like, your gut health also alters hormonal regulation detoxification, meaning that long term, the birth control also leads to a build-up of those excess hormones.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: And then we can get this whole thing all over again where it's like there's all these estrogen, well, we're pumping you full of estrogen from the pill, then it's disrupting the estrogen bacteria, then it's making you, you know, like constipated glass, bloating, etc.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: So you're reabsorbing more of that high level of estrogen because it's higher than your body's natural version that it makes, and then you're not detoxing it because it's not working in your liver properly, and we have all of these like estriobolum getting disrupted, and then we're in this vicious cycle.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Um, so that you can see how that like we're really putting fuel in the fire, and it becomes this unfortunate, like never-ending loop between all of it.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: And you know, for most women, the signs that the pill is messing with your gut can be more subtle, and it may not be as severe as Crohn's or colitis right now.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It can be just basically things as IBS, gas bloating, constipation, all these signs are dysbiosis or microbial imbalance within the digestive tract.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: But something we also have to realize is that acne, eczema, psoriasis, all of these things are often found with the pill because you need to improve your microbiome, obviously through a combo of like diet, herbal supplements, etc.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Um, and if you need help with this, we have a whole module in Well Nourished about gut health.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Plus, I give you gut health reset, plus you have the one-on-one, so we can tackle that if you are on the pill and you want to solve this.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: But your gut health, like we know, is highly related to mental health.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: So, roughly 90% of our serotonin, which is the neurotransmitter that promotes that feel-good, delicious feeling that we all want to feel day in and day out, is produced in the gut.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And then we have norepinephrine, which is involved in maintaining that production of GABA.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: GABA is the neurotransmitter, which makes you feel calm, um, and also a bunch of strong other antioxidants that are produced in the gut microbiome.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: So mental health issues like depression and anxiety are highly related to levels of these chemicals in the brain.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: And so these low serotonin and antioxidants levels are both associated with an increased risk of depression.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: The antioxidants are then responsible for stopping brain inflammation, which studies again have been linked to depression, low levels of serotonin, etc.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: But we also have to remember that neuropinephrine influences the level of GABA in the brain, and the lower levels of GABA are linked to higher feelings of anxiety.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: So, what do we need to know about this?
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Basically, the pill destroys your neurotransmitters, leaving you anxious, depressed, and your brain inflamed, and your brain is inflamed in things like depression and anxiety.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: So, moving on, again, another thing that birth control does is increased inflammation.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: So the pill and inflammation basically goes hand in hand.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Like if you think about anything, just whenever you think of the pill, just think of inflammation.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: So, inflammation, especially in the gut and the brain, is never a good thing.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: And gut inflammation again can lead to the leaky gut, which, if you haven't listened to the leaky gut episode, go and listen to that.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Change in bowel habits, IBD, like trouble losing weight, um, etc.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: But there is such a strong link between autoimmune disease and the birth control pill that even if you have the genes for autoimmune disease, the pill can be one of the factors that actually turn that on and lead to the development of that disease, which is insane.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: So the inflammation that is you know brought about from it, you can you know do it by not only obviously getting off the pill, but you know, reducing inflammation through food, um, you know, learning to nourish your body properly, avoiding refined sugars, whole food sources, vegetables, etc., and you know, turmeric, ginger, antioxidants like green tea, berry, citrus fruits, all of these things are gonna be good.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Um, but you're definitely going to want to do everything you can to stop putting fuel in the fire and stop like, and so you're not fighting to reduce the inflammation through it.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: We're gonna stop the inflammation by obviously not doing the thing that causes the inflammation, right?
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: So helping to reduce that chronic inflammation um that's brought on by it, by like using the diet changes, having supplements that are gonna balance you out and everything like that is going to help all of that, guys.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I want to take a sip of my chaga latte.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Going more into how it impairs digestion specifically, because yes, we know it's gonna cause bloating, gas constipation, etc.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: And it does because it provides your body with that constant stream of synthetic sex hormones, right?
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: And so these elevated hormone levels mimic what happens during pregnancy and actually trick your body into thinking that you are pregnant.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Great for preventing pregnancy, but not so great for digestion, and that's because the presence of the excess estrogen in your body contributes to an impaired gallbladder function and sluggish bile.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: So there are actually estrogen and progestion receptors in your gallbladder, and the increase in these hormones that happens with the hormonal birth control use can actually affect the function of your gallbladder, which means, um, and if you're not familiar, bile, which is made in your gallbladder, is critical for the digestion of fat, spot-soluble vitamins, but also many toxins and waste products are also eliminated from the body through bile.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: So if your bile is sluggish and your gallbladder isn't functioning optimally, you won't be able to digest or eliminate toxins well.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: This can lead to SIBO, gut imbalances, nutrient deficiency, accumulation of toxins, you know, making your liver have to go on orbitrive, plus, we're trying to detox the pill, plus maybe we're not having clean beauty, so we're detoxing all of the dove and pantene and cover girl and ole and all that other stuff, and it really starts to like take attacks on your body.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: The next thing we want to talk about is the fact that the pill lowers testosterone.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: So maybe your doctor put you on birth control to help treat your acne, but the same reason this works is because the birth control suppresses the male hormones called androgens, like testosterone.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: And you're thinking, okay, like why is this a bad thing?
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm a woman, why do I want androgens?
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Why can't I suppress testosterone?
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Other than it being unnatural, it can cause a decrease in libido energy muscle tone, meaning that if you're on the pill, you are less likely to be interested in sex and enjoy it less because you actually do have like less lubrication, pelvic pain, and trouble orgasming on the like when you're on the pill as opposed to when you're not, but also decreased muscle tone.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: So if you are trying to like get long and lean or anything like that, that's gonna be trouble.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have trouble like losing weight, getting long and lean.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's also like I said, like be less interested, which I mean, come on, guys, if you haven't listened to the orgasm episode, go and listen to that.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: But not only this, but the lower testosterone level can actually prevent you from gaining muscle effectively and make you retain water weight through bloating.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Hard pass, guys.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Who wants who wants to be retaining water and feel puffy and bloated?
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know, not me.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: I and I don't think it's any of you guys.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: So that's the note about the pill and testosterone.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: So, as we said, it does also affect your mood, um, and you need that balance, that healthy balance of like estrogen and progesterone in the natural equilibrium so that your vein's response isn't altered, right?
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: So don't forget about that as well, because that's an important one I want to drive home.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Now, also note that the pill does increase your risk of blood clotting, heart attack, and stroke.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: These, um, if you're lucky, your doctor probably told you about these.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: This is something that at least the doctor probably told you about.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Um, if they haven't, news splash.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: So this is especially true if you, you know, are overweight, if you are a smoker, um, but especially if you are overweight, this is gonna make it much more likely.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And did you know that the estrogen progesterone birth control fails have a higher correlation with um increased blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke as opposed to the the other kinds.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: So that's some pretty serious stuff.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: Alright, next time I want to dive into the fact that it contributes to nutrient deficiencies.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: So, you know what else can cause digestive problems?
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Nutrient deficiencies.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: And do you know what else can cause?
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Nutrient deficiencies?
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: I guess you guys don't know my answer.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Yep, the pill.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: So, in order for your body to metabolize the pill, the liver requires extra amounts of vitamins, including vitamin B2, B6, B12, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: So long-term use, especially if you've been on it for like five, ten years, depletes these vitamins.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Not only can this disrupt your gut function, but these deficiencies are also the primary contributors to disease and are highly linked with healthy brain function.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: So if you are having deficiencies in this, not only do you have hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, but you also have thyroid dysfunction, you might be losing your hair, and a whole host of other things.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: And what's even worse is that if you become deficient in certain nutrients from the birth control pill use, your period might be irregular or even non existent even after you come off the pill.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Which brings us to how some of these nutrient deficiencies can specifically affect gut function.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: So, A, it depletes you with vitamins, meaning you may not have a cycle when you come off of it.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Zinc, for example, works in your digestive tract to enhance the gut lining.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: It's good for your immune system as well, but it's actually used to heal and treat leaky gut.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: But when you're deficient in it, as is common with the pill use, your gut is more likely to be leaky.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Then we have selenium.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: So selenium is a critical nutrient when it comes to gut function.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: It's basically the micronutrient that helps you to regulate glutathione production.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Glutathione is needed for like normal gut function and detoxification.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: It is the most potent antioxidant in the body.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: So this one is super important.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: We don't want to be having low levels of this.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Um, the act shouldn't studies and like diets high in selenium, which I mean, if you take two Brazil nuts a day, your selenium should be fine.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Um, is known to actually improve the microbial diversity of the gut.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Now, that being said, that I just gave that little tip for two Brazil nuts.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: That's if you're also not depleting it with the pill.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: So, like, for example, me, I can take two Brazil nuts and have less enough selenium.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: But if I'm on the pill, that's not gonna hit enough because I'm depleting it extra.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: So just keep that in mind.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: So it's no secret that like you know the health of your gut really relies on you know your ability to maintain adequate levels of key nutrients and vitamins.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: And unfortunately, the pill doesn't do you any favors when it comes to improved nutrient status.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: But don't worry, like, even if you have been on.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: The pill, or you're on it in the past, we can help you know get you off of it and help get you all of the nutrients that you need to start having a healthy gut and healthy cycle.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's dive into the pill and fertility.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: I see this all the time, guys.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: If we're thinking about fertility, if you want your fertility to be in check, we have to like we have to get you off the pill.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna say I'm just gonna be blunt.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: We all know me, the side in me is blunt.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: It's going to delay fertility.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: It can make fertility more difficult, it can make miscarriages more likely.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Because without a period, you don't ovulate, and you've basically been teaching your body to not ovulate for anywhere from like five to ten years.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: So without ovulation, obviously, you know you can't get pregnant.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: So it stands to say that if you can't get your period back after going off a pill, you're gonna have issues with fertility.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: And if you can't get it back but it's irregular, it's gonna be conceiving much more difficult, but it's also gonna be maintain make maintaining a healthy pregnancy a lot more difficult.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: So why is this?
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Well, our monthly cycles are basically it's our body's report card.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: Um, it's the way of our body's telling us that our hormones are balanced in sync and they are doing what they are supposed to do.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: It should come like clockwork, it should come, you know, same amount of days, no PMS symptoms all the time.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And since when you're on your period, the pill is synthetic, you might be missing the signs that everything is, or in many cases isn't, working correctly.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So it can take some time for your body to regulate, which can be really difficult if you are trying to get pregnant right away.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: With less time available to heal your body, and if you had like discovered these issues earlier, um, when you weren't masking what your hormones were doing with the pill, there can be significant delay before fertility returns, but also issues holding fertility because we've been depleted for so long, right?
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Your hormones are all over the place.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Your hormones are all over the place and they're not properly balanced, you're not gonna like have the hormones needed to maintain your pregnancy.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: So doctors will often tell you that like it should resume within one to two months, but I've like I've very rarely seen this happen um with a lot of my the people who come to me because it well it depends on how long you've been on the pill and what kind you're taking, whether it was the combo, the progestion only, or the extended cycle, your dosage, etc.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Um, you probably want to like treat this or get a hold of it um like sooner rather than later.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I mean if I haven't given you enough reasons to like why you might want to think about getting off of it, um, I'm gonna give you some like tips for you guys on bouncing back after it and how you know how to do it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: Before we do, like, I mean hopefully all these reasons above really resonated you, and like I'm not here to convince you, but I'm here to like educate you so that you at least know that if you continue to take it, you are signing up for everything that I just said.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: So um, to me, like the risks are too much when there's a lot other options out there.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: But what works for me may not work for you, and the point isn't to tell you what to do, it's to give you the information, the facts, the science, so that you can make an informed decision about you.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: So, some things to help you when bouncing back after the pill.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Cut the sweet stuff, cut the added sugars, inflammatory, you know, oils, processed, junk, all of that, because that's gonna ramp up your inflammatory disease and basically cause you to not only pack on weight and feel miserable, but also make coming off of it a lot harder.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: So you want to also be aware of like the sneaky sugar sources like almond milk or oat milk.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Jesus Christ, oat milk is just you might oat milk is like Coca-Cola.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: I should do that up.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Um I need to do that episode about how oat milk is like Coca-Cola.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: It's like in oat what people don't realize is like the sugar in oat milk is equal to the sugar in Coca-Cola, which is like insane, which is so funny to me because people like nonchalantly go about their oat milk lattes, but yet Coca-Cola is a big no-no, but they don't realize that like it's the same thing.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, so oh my god, I need to remember to do that episode.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna write that down.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, the next thing for helping you bounce back is controlling stress.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: So you wanna control stress um when coming off of it's gonna be make the the what the rebound symptoms a lot easier.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Meditating, deep breaths, um, adaptogens, you're gonna want to work with a someone like me to find the right one for you.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Um, Dessay baths, uh, contrast showers, chamomile tea, all of that stuff, setting boundaries, etc.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Controlling stress is gonna be huge.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Um, focusing on anti-inflammatory nutrients and foods.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: So wild caught fish is basically an anti-inflammatory like rock star.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Um, so even things like wild-caught tuna in a can is such a good, like also quick protein, but also gonna be good um for help ramping up all of those really good anti-inflammatory pathways, um, but also things like cruciferous vegetables, leafy vegetables, turmeric, um, omega-3s, so like chia seeds, flax, hemp, all of that.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Getting good sleep, this is also going to be good um for when you're kind of coming off of it and to help it balance everything out, making sure you're getting enough sleep.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and then also to like nix all of the reactive foods.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: So, like dairy gluten soy trigger leaky gut weight loss resistance and is going to make coming off of it a lot harder.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, gluten-free really dials down the inflammation, it helps with insulin resistance, it boosts weight loss, it's going to you know lower all of those inflammatory pathways and it's gonna make coming off of it a lot easier.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: So, with that being said, that is the 411 on the pill, everything you need to know in order to make a decision, um, and some things to make sure you think about if you're coming off of it.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: If you want help coming off of it, I would suggest getting well we're not right now.
