- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Many moons ago, when I was in my early 20s, I started a practice that I continue to this very day.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: And that practice is I keep an encouragement file.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Whenever somebody says nice things to me in a handwritten note or in an email or a text, I save it for those days when I'm feeling a little bit down.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And those encouraging thoughts remind me that I have indeed impacted people because the truth is that you can be doing as well as anybody else, but we all get a little bit down sometimes, and we need those reminders that we've actually made a difference in people's lives.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And this encouragement also gives me a huge push to keep on going.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Now, I do want to clarify that this file, quote unquote, is actually not just one physical file, it's several collections in different places.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And this takes place really in four different places.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Number one is I keep a bulletin board in my home office, and anytime that I get a handwritten card in the mail that I want to keep, I pin it on that bulletin board.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And if you go into my home office today, it's got so many cards on it, in fact, that uh it's probably two layers of cards at this point, and cards are kind of buried underneath all of the other ones that I've pinned on top of them.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: And it's those cards are all from recent years, and I really love walking into my home office and just seeing those cards on the wall.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: It's a reminder that, hey, I've done some good in the world and people appreciate me.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I also keep an Evernote folder where I keep screenshots of nice messages, texts, and emails.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Also, I have a Scrivener folder.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: In fact, it's in this very file on Scrivener, if you will, where I write these daily emails.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And I keep a little folder in there where I copy and paste positive thoughts about my daily emails from people who are on my list or who listen to my podcast.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: That obviously includes you since you're listening to this podcast right now.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: In addition to this, I also have a box in my basement that is filled with cards and notes and letters from my younger years.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: So I really have four different files, quote unquote, or four different locations where I keep these pieces of encouragement from other people.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Now, I do want to clarify that I don't keep every single card or email from people, but a good portion of those do get posted on my bulletin board at home if it's something tangible, or they get put into a digital folder of some kind.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And sorry, there's some text messages that somebody sent to me.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So hey, this is a No Frills podcast, so I'm just gonna keep on rolling here.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: You know, when somebody encourages you, it's a good reminder that you're making a difference and you're doing good in the world.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And that's a really emotional boost on the days when you're not quite feeling it.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: And if you don't have a place to collect those reminders, I would encourage you to start today.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: It will really do some good for your soul.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And if you do have a place to collect those, I would love to hear about it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: What kind of collection do you have and where do you put those different types of encouragement from people?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: You can email me at Kent at KentSanders.net and tell me how you collect those kind words from others.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
