- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily pad production.
- 0:04Speaker 2: This is the team up play show podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Previously in the city of bones.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Quanta, you pull the list back out. A gross list
- 0:35Speaker 2: filled with abused and used people. Your eyes go to
- 0:38Speaker 2: the top name on the list. The name you both
- 0:41Speaker 2: find in this moment is Adam Dukes. Jason, you find
- 0:45Speaker 2: it in the context of documentation to legally change one's
- 0:50Speaker 2: name after adoption to Adam Ellington, who is Manny's father.
- 0:57Speaker 2: One of them is to you specifically from Manny Ellington
- 1:00Speaker 2: that says, I know our city is going through a
- 1:02Speaker 2: tragedy right now, but maybe to distract us, come by
- 1:06Speaker 2: for that testing you talked about to get your book removed.
- 1:11Speaker 2: The other one is from Elaine Akira who said she
- 1:13Speaker 2: would let you know about the autopsy. They all had
- 1:16Speaker 2: enormous amounts of apomorphine and luciferin in their blood. staggering amounts.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It reminded me of an unsolved case I had to study.
- 1:29Speaker 2: The cold case of Darren Pachowski and an unnamed woman
- 1:34Speaker 2: found dead with the same toxic in their bloodstreams.
- 1:38Speaker 1: What are those two things?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Do I know any of those big medically words? Here's
- 1:43Speaker 2: what you know about these. They are hallucinogenic. They make
- 1:47Speaker 2: one incredibly susceptible to They also are derived from a flower,
- 1:56Speaker 2: the blue lotus.
- 1:58Speaker 4: So yeah, we'll head to the, I guess the police
- 2:01Speaker 4: station would have files that we can score for cold case.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Elaine can give you the files, certainly. You see
- 2:10Speaker 2: an image, and then there are two figures in the bed.
- 2:13Speaker 2: There are no wounds on the bodies, but here's what
- 2:16Speaker 2: you gain. Darren Pachowski says, found dead with likely a
- 2:21Speaker 2: forbidden lover, a Jane Doe. They died of a toxin
- 2:23Speaker 2: in their bloodstream.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Is there anything unusual or of note about the actual
- 2:29Speaker 4: physical files or photos?
- 2:31Speaker 2: Has any of this changed, tampered with, seem unusual? There
- 2:35Speaker 2: is a page that is missing. You do see the
- 2:39Speaker 2: imprint of like a picture in the top. and then
- 2:42Speaker 2: some information. You can't read any of it, you can't
- 2:45Speaker 2: see the picture specifically, but it does seem like it
- 2:48Speaker 2: might be the woman's face. Our three heroes are solving
- 3:00Speaker 2: a great mystery in the city of New Babel. Who
- 3:04Speaker 2: murdered the crime lords and why? While you're doing this,
- 3:09Speaker 2: great change is happening in the city. With the new mayor,
- 3:14Speaker 2: Henry Hilland, from time to time in your patrols and
- 3:18Speaker 2: as you run through the city, you do see American
- 3:22Speaker 2: cars not having hover capabilities, but themselves doing a little
- 3:30Speaker 2: bit of patrol of the city and looking at things,
- 3:33Speaker 2: perhaps the ambassador himself. But we are thread chasing.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Those hot dogs are weird.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Mm.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Those are like square hot dogs sitting on two marshmallows.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I don't get it. It doesn't make sense. It feels regressive.
- 3:50Speaker 2: We've done one point of thread chasing. Two of you
- 3:54Speaker 2: had three. One of you had two. What else are
- 3:57Speaker 2: we chasing here thread-wise, fam?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah, do we want to keep spending to go talk
- 4:03Speaker 1: to Pachowski kids? I was thinking... Of talking to Dirk
- 4:09Speaker 1: about Sushant and or Manny. And then maybe looking into
- 4:15Speaker 1: Henry Hillen's wife.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Sure.
- 4:18Speaker 1: But we also can just keep digging this murder hole
- 4:22Speaker 1: if we want. What do y'all think?
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:24Speaker 4: How many, how many more, how many more nodes are
- 4:28Speaker 4: there of this mystery? Like how many, we talked to
- 4:31Speaker 4: the hot dog guy and the hot dog guy's like,
- 4:33Speaker 4: don't talk to me.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Look in the sewer. And then he Like the sewer
- 4:36Speaker 2: in the sewer is like, don't talk to me, I'm
- 4:39Speaker 2: a sewer.
- 4:41Speaker 3: We got a hot dog guy and we got some
- 4:43Speaker 3: kind of potential MD to talk to. So we might
- 4:48Speaker 3: keep chasing that rabbit hole. Pulling that thread one more
- 4:52Speaker 3: step at least.
- 4:53Speaker 2: We could try.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Otherwise, our other focus mainly that we said it was
- 4:58Speaker 4: trying to push a little bit on Manny. I do
- 5:00Speaker 4: have a way to potentially poke at that with some
- 5:04Speaker 4: unmasked stuff. So I'm not opposed to keep trucking mystery
- 5:10Speaker 4: team style here.
- 5:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Give another point to mystery.
- 5:14Speaker 2: It was the janitor all along trying to protect his gold.
- 5:18Speaker 2: My gold.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I guess we also don't all have to, but it's fun.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It's more fun if we do it together.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I would have gotten away with it, too, if it
- 5:28Speaker 2: wasn't for you electric and star-powered and paper kids and
- 5:32Speaker 2: your paper cat and your stupid robot.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Hey.
- 5:36Speaker 2: You could burn the cat. Great. So at the end
- 5:42Speaker 2: of last episode, we kind of joked that you were
- 5:44Speaker 2: going to Pachowski's dogs. Now we're unironically going. Unironically. I
- 5:49Speaker 2: wasn't silly at all.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I do put Sticky in a tote bag over my
- 5:55Speaker 1: shoulder and carry him around like a little chihuahua.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Okay.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Are you guys going as heroes or are you going as...
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think maybe we unmask for this.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Really?
- 6:05Speaker 2: For just regular... I mean, maybe. For hot dogging, we're
- 6:08Speaker 2: just trying to talk to peeps.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I don't know, because Rigel was masked to talk to Linda.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 1: So if he shows up, Unmasked.
- 6:16Speaker 4: If you guys want to go masked, I can go
- 6:18Speaker 4: and have a big hilarious menu and just sit in
- 6:20Speaker 4: a booth in the corner. Feel all the paper in
- 6:24Speaker 4: there as Jason.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Sure. And eat a hot dog.
- 6:27Speaker 1: We could go like really close to closing time or
- 6:29Speaker 1: right after.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Oh, that's so obnoxious. We'll have a hundred hot dogs
- 6:33Speaker 2: now at 859. Let's do it. Yeah, so you go
- 6:38Speaker 2: to Pachowski's Dogs?
- 6:40Speaker 6: Yep.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And two of you go as heroes? Yes. Jason goes,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I'm just a customer. I would like 100 hot dogs, please. Uh,
- 6:52Speaker 2: Dan Pachowski looks down at you. He's a young man.
- 6:57Speaker 2: He's a young man, but a little bit older than
- 6:59Speaker 2: you guys. He says, Hey, can't do a hundred dogs
- 7:03Speaker 2: at the end of the night, but I can do one. Perfect.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Between one and 100 dogs, please. Uh, I'll do one.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Between one and 100 dogs. I sit down and put
- 7:16Speaker 2: a menu out. All right. Jason gets his dog and
- 7:19Speaker 2: sits down. How are you two entering Pachowski's dogs?
- 7:22Speaker 1: I just think through the door a few minutes later.
- 7:24Speaker 2: After a loud thunder crack. Yeah. You push open the door. Oh, hey.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Oh, hey.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Quanta, right?
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's me.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Wow, I can't believe you're here. This is my shop,
- 7:40Speaker 2: Pachowski's Dogs.
- 7:42Speaker 1: It smells great.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Rigel, you come in, too.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Rigel walks in behind, kind of clopping with his boots.
- 7:51Speaker 3: As I walk in, I flip the hanging door sign
- 7:56Speaker 3: that I assume is there to closed. And I say, hey, Poindexter,
- 8:01Speaker 3: we got a conversation we need to have with the
- 8:04Speaker 3: big man over here.
- 8:05Speaker 2: To Jason. Me? I'm just a regular customer. Masked vigilantes
- 8:11Speaker 2: in your hot dog store? Oh, boy.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Hey, you want me to get you to go? I'm sorry.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I don't know what they're doing. I'll just enjoy my
- 8:22Speaker 2: dog quietly in the corner. I've got acid reflux. Can't
- 8:25Speaker 2: take it to go. Sorry, guys. I can't send this
- 8:29Speaker 2: customer out. We're not quite closed yet. Can't discriminate against
- 8:33Speaker 2: someone with acid reflux. Right. That's just what he said.
- 8:36Speaker 3: This will at least keep more customers from coming in
- 8:40Speaker 3: while we talk.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Right. Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't... I'm not.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I'm fully above board here. Fully... I'm not... Oh, no. No.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You're not in any kind of trouble.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Oh.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Then what are you guys doing here?
- 8:58Speaker 3: We have a few questions and I heard you have
- 9:03Speaker 3: pretty good chili cheese fries.
- 9:06Speaker 2: That we do, that we do. I'll whip those up
- 9:09Speaker 2: and come sit down with you. Please. Thank you. Do
- 9:12Speaker 2: you want anything?
- 9:12Speaker 5: Sure.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'll also take an order of chili cheese fries.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Damn, I'm going to make one myself. You're going to
- 9:17Speaker 2: make me hungry. He whips up three orders of chili
- 9:20Speaker 2: cheese fries. You sit in the booth farthest away from
- 9:23Speaker 2: Jason's food.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Uh.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And he says, so what can I do for you, heroes?
- 9:47Speaker 1: We are sorry to dredge up the past, but we
- 9:50Speaker 1: have some questions about what happened to your father.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Oh, hey, yeah. Ching Ching, you hear the music? The
- 10:01Speaker 2: music's loud. He looks at you, Jason. He's like, hey,
- 10:05Speaker 2: could you turn on something on the jukebox before?
- 10:08Speaker 1: I got it. Nice. I wave my wrist and turn
- 10:13Speaker 1: on the jukebox.
- 10:14Speaker 2: He gets real close to you guys. Listen, I'm not sure.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm not sure if there's somebody listening to us here.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Oh. I send my senses out to see if I
- 10:28Speaker 1: can find any hidden microphones.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Roll a sense check. I forgot you can do that.
- 10:35Speaker 2: This is just, it's a simple check. It's not hard
- 10:37Speaker 2: for you.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I rolled a short top one and a five, six.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Rolled a three.
- 10:42Speaker 7: Nice.
- 10:43Speaker 2: There are no bugs in here. Certainly.
- 10:46Speaker 1: My eyes roll back for a second and the lights
- 10:48Speaker 1: kind of flashed. flicker in and out. I didn't sense
- 10:53Speaker 1: anything in here listening to us. I don't know if
- 10:56Speaker 1: that makes you feel any better, just taking my word
- 10:58Speaker 1: for it.
- 10:59Speaker 2: She would know. Trust us. Well, yeah. Yeah, I mean,
- 11:02Speaker 2: you have all the electric stuff. You can turn that down. No,
- 11:06Speaker 2: I'm enjoying it.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Alright.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah, leave it there. One, two, three, four. New Babbles version.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Shania Twain. Man, I feel like New Babble.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Mambo No. 6 featuring Shania Twain.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Far future. A little bit of Shania. No, I trust you.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's just me and my family, we've been under quite
- 11:36Speaker 2: a bit of surveillance since the event. And listen, I
- 11:41Speaker 2: was real young, and my little sis... It really upsets her,
- 11:48Speaker 2: so I'm glad you came to me. Don't, uh, if
- 11:51Speaker 2: you wouldn't mind, don't go bothering her, please.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Okay.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Thanks for letting us know that she was actually on
- 11:57Speaker 3: our list to talk to as well. But anything you
- 12:01Speaker 3: can tell us, especially who you know or believe you're
- 12:05Speaker 3: being surveilled by, would be helpful for an investigation we're
- 12:09Speaker 3: a part of.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, well, no, it's, uh, I got my theories. I
- 12:18Speaker 2: dove real deep into it when I was a teenager.
- 12:23Speaker 2: And then scary men came by, told me, stop. Or,
- 12:31Speaker 2: I mean, he told me a lot of bad things.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I don't think they would have done that if you
- 12:37Speaker 1: weren't close to something.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, right?
- 12:40Speaker 1: Well, we got time and lots of delicious fries, so.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Take it away. it's not a super long story. I
- 12:47Speaker 2: just think my dad was in bed with the lady.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Nobody really knew who the lady was. So that's what
- 12:56Speaker 2: I was digging in on. And I got my theories,
- 12:59Speaker 2: but I don't know for sure.
- 13:01Speaker 4: While he's talking, can I send a Mr. Crinkles, like
- 13:06Speaker 4: fold up the menu and do a Mr. Crinkles to
- 13:08Speaker 4: like send it into his back rooms, basements to snoop around,
- 13:12Speaker 4: look for his, his, Journals, Walls of Crazy, Theories, just
- 13:16Speaker 4: to see.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, sure. You can warg into Mr. Krinkles. One, two,
- 13:23Speaker 2: Shania Twain. Anytime Jason wargs.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Anytime Jason wargs, I lose it.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That's just hilarious. Paper warging is something else, man. He's like, yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 2: that's what my dogs do to people sometimes.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It might be reflux.
- 13:41Speaker 2: It doesn't reflux. Yeah, so this lady, hard to find
- 13:46Speaker 2: anything about her. So the first thing that started happening
- 13:49Speaker 2: to my family was the money. Like my ma would
- 13:56Speaker 2: get checks in the mail and it wasn't ever for,
- 14:03Speaker 2: it couldn't be used for anything. It had to be
- 14:06Speaker 2: put away for us. And so she saved up for
- 14:09Speaker 2: like our dreams and what we wanted to go do
- 14:12Speaker 2: in the city. So he gestures to the hot dog
- 14:16Speaker 2: store He's like, hence the dogs I had a gift,
- 14:20Speaker 2: what can I say? Yeah, you've used it well Yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 2: thank you And my sister, she's a doctor now Money
- 14:28Speaker 2: just kept pouring in And my poor mom, she lives
- 14:32Speaker 2: in the south side She loves it there, she wouldn't
- 14:34Speaker 2: want to leave But that wasn't how it was My
- 14:39Speaker 2: dad was an important man city council, all that stuff.
- 14:46Speaker 1: But the money started coming in after Darren's death.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Where did it come from?
- 14:53Speaker 2: Well, that's where I tried to make the two connections.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Where's the money coming from and who is this lady?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Are those things connected? Maybe, maybe not. How did they
- 15:05Speaker 2: both die? When you get money like that, you think
- 15:08Speaker 2: of reparation, right? Like, like, something bad happened to us
- 15:14Speaker 2: and they, whoever did the bad thing, didn't want the
- 15:18Speaker 2: bad thing to get out. Yeah. And so we get money.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And that's why when the scary man came around, they
- 15:27Speaker 2: told me to stop looking into things. And so I
- 15:30Speaker 2: did because, you know, I have a gift and he just,
- 15:33Speaker 2: just did a hot dog stand. Sure. My little, my little,
- 15:37Speaker 2: my kid sister wanted to get through school, but, um,
- 15:40Speaker 2: Who could have that much money and do something that bad, right?
- 15:44Speaker 2: That's the question.
- 15:45Speaker 1: What were you finding out when the big scary men
- 15:49Speaker 1: came by?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, about the woman. Let me paint you a picture
- 15:52Speaker 2: while you think, Johnny. Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 6: Mr.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Crinkles goes into the back rooms of the kitchen. There's
- 15:58Speaker 4: wax paper with cartoon hot dogs that look like dogs
- 16:01Speaker 4: on them. They start running around and chasing each other
- 16:04Speaker 4: in a hieroglyphic art style, two-dimensionally, having a little adventure.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Fun music plays underneath that Johnny will have to add in.
- 16:13Speaker 4: After they get chased around, Mr. Krinkles finds his way
- 16:19Speaker 4: to the basement where there's notes and files backing up
- 16:23Speaker 4: everything he's about to say.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Relevant photographs. Dates and times. Specific ones. Numbers. How much
- 16:31Speaker 2: has dad weighed? Facts. It's all there.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Exact time of death. The exact story of the hotel
- 16:40Speaker 1: that they were on. The room number.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Ooh, room number is good. Yeah, so the one connection
- 16:54Speaker 2: I made there was... If someone willing to kill for her,
- 17:00Speaker 2: she had to be important. Yeah. There was her picture
- 17:04Speaker 2: in the crime scene photos they let me look at.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I had only seen that face one other place. It
- 17:11Speaker 2: was in a tabloid, you know, the New Babbler? Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 2: And it was one of those gotcha picture moments where
- 17:22Speaker 2: it said, who is Adam Ellington's new girl?
- 17:27Speaker 1: Okay.
- 17:29Speaker 2: And she was in the back of one of his cars.
- 17:35Speaker 2: And there was never any certainty that she was doing
- 17:40Speaker 2: anything and she wasn't really seen. But whoever altered the
- 17:49Speaker 2: evidence and got rid of her from the case files
- 17:52Speaker 2: wouldn't have been that hard because she was kind of
- 17:54Speaker 2: a ghost.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Dan, maybe you've already thought of this, but I have
- 18:01Speaker 1: a theory. Would you like to hear it or would
- 18:02Speaker 1: you like us to just go.
- 18:04Speaker 2: On our way? Oh, please. It was an obsession of mine.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Do you think your dad was caught in the crossfire?
- 18:12Speaker 2: Of what?
- 18:15Speaker 1: Getting rid of this woman, whoever she was, was the
- 18:18Speaker 1: true intent.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:21Speaker 7: Maybe.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Maybe. My dad didn't like the shoot, you know, and
- 18:26Speaker 2: that's fucked up.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I'm sure he made a lot of enemies.
- 18:30Speaker 2: He did, and, you know, the stories about the Wraith
- 18:33Speaker 2: and that kind of thing, that's what the news says.
- 18:36Speaker 2: It's just like, oh, the Wraith killed him with poison,
- 18:39Speaker 2: but the Wraith never did that before, as far as
- 18:41Speaker 2: we know. It was mostly exploding people's heads. Yeah, that's
- 18:45Speaker 2: what we know about the Wraith as well. But, uh,
- 18:49Speaker 2: so I don't know. I don't know who the real
- 18:51Speaker 2: target was. If it was an affair, maybe both of them.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Crime of passion?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Could be, but why the reparations?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Maybe guilt. Yeah, my mom and us kids, and they
- 19:05Speaker 2: didn't do nothing wrong. Yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Any chance this guy's kept that scrap from the babbler
- 19:12Speaker 4: somewhere where we could see the picture down in the
- 19:15Speaker 4: dank corner?
- 19:17Speaker 2: Hot dog basement.
- 19:18Speaker 1: A greasy hot dog basement.
- 19:20Speaker 4: A greasy tabloid newspaper.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Roll an investigation check. Okay. You know I'm going to
- 19:28Speaker 2: have my paper since do it. Because I'm looking for paper, baby.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Oh, God, if we didn't. If we didn't live in
- 19:35Speaker 4: a neo-noir city, what the fuck would I do?
- 19:38Speaker 2: I rolled a nine on a challenging check. Oh, poopy poops.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I got a six.
- 19:43Speaker 1: That's just an upside down nine.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you think about it. You find bags
- 19:49Speaker 2: of potatoes and bags of glizzies. Mr. Krinkles takes them.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Takes a bag of glizzies at least. And that's all
- 20:02Speaker 2: I figured out. Then, you know, what was the day
- 20:07Speaker 2: I found that tabloid in the old library and then
- 20:11Speaker 2: they came after me. So. Excuse me, my acid reflux
- 20:17Speaker 2: has concluded. Hey, good for you, man. Thank you for sharing.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Good day to you.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I'm like walking out like my shirt is filled with
- 20:28Speaker 4: hot dogs now.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Oh thank you for your time Mr.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Pachowski Hey no problem And yeah don't I mean yeah
- 20:38Speaker 2: Don't talk to my sister And listen this is If
- 20:42Speaker 2: you keep following I think bad stuff will happen to
- 20:44Speaker 2: you guys So be careful.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Bad stuff happens to us a lot Alright We've handled
- 20:49Speaker 1: it so far.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Cool very cool Hey I'm a fan man Whatever people
- 20:54Speaker 2: say like Thank you for protecting.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Us Hey yeah you want a picture for your wall?
- 20:59Speaker 2: What? Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. I got one of the tailor.
- 21:04Speaker 2: You see her up there?
- 21:06Speaker 7: Wow.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Respect.
- 21:07Speaker 1: We would be honored to be up there with the tailor.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Oh, awesome. Can I get one with each of you?
- 21:12Speaker 2: Like two different pictures? Sure.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Yeah, why not?
- 21:15Speaker 2: We'll get that guy, come back and take pictures. You
- 21:19Speaker 2: guys take pictures at Pachowski's Dogs. They are poorly framed.
- 21:25Speaker 2: My finger is in the shot.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I'm holding a french fry up to my masked mouth.
- 21:32Speaker 2: So we'll say that's two points of thread chasing. Two
- 21:38Speaker 2: of you have one more here. Yes. Yes.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I would love your input, guys.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah, what is more important? Should I find out if
- 21:50Speaker 1: Dirk knows anything about the Ellington's involvement with Everwing and
- 21:55Speaker 1: their team? Or should I like go to the hospital
- 22:03Speaker 1: and look for like a Hilland? Cause she was sick.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Oh, interesting.
- 22:08Speaker 1: But record like records like now we've established that's like,
- 22:12Speaker 1: that's paper. That's paper.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Well, it sounds like, adam ellington manny ellington this case
- 22:18Speaker 4: it's all connected in some way so whatever we can
- 22:20Speaker 4: learn about them whether it's from dirk or otherwise.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah all right i'll talk to dirk with my last one.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Okay find dirk in the nest uh dirk has been
- 22:30Speaker 2: doing a good job patrolling through the city and uh
- 22:34Speaker 2: rock fist has been hanging out with him he's been
- 22:36Speaker 2: teaching him a lot of life they're playing foosball down
- 22:39Speaker 2: there yeah hey guys quanta hello.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Can I steal you away from foosball for a second?
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yes, of course.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Excuse us, Lucky. I mean, you're welcome to hang out too.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I just have some questions for Dirk.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I like these little guys. They're pretty great. They're very cute.
- 23:00Speaker 1: They are so cute.
- 23:01Speaker 2: They kick the ball. They kick it. Dirk comes over
- 23:09Speaker 2: to hang out with you. What can I do for you, Quanta? Word.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Finding out some things about Manny Ellington and that family.
- 23:18Speaker 1: And I was just, I was curious about Adam Ellington's
- 23:21Speaker 1: involvement with you and the Knights back in the day.
- 23:25Speaker 2: No, uh, Richard.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Excuse me, not the Knights. You were the Veniam Knights
- 23:33Speaker 1: as the day.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Hunters.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Hunters. Thank you.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Uh, yes. Richard, uh, uh started helping us and then
- 23:47Speaker 2: his adopted son adam took the reins and really did
- 23:52Speaker 2: more for us than richard ever did uh technology housing
- 23:58Speaker 2: the nest this this right here what did you know
- 24:02Speaker 2: about him very little it was all very cat and
- 24:08Speaker 2: mouse in what way Well, we very rarely, if ever,
- 24:16Speaker 2: saw him personally. It was always missives and amounts of
- 24:20Speaker 2: money and buildings bought for us and in our names
- 24:25Speaker 2: and food, clothing. It was so that we didn't have
- 24:30Speaker 2: to work.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So you never met him?
- 24:36Speaker 2: I don't remember meeting him. It was two lives ago
- 24:39Speaker 2: for me. Right.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Well, um, you know the thing Sticky's been showing us?
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 24:48Speaker 1: We found out the boy in those is the same
- 24:54Speaker 1: person as Adam Ellington.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Interesting. Very interesting.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So, makes us wonder who is Manny Ellington.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yes. Adam... was never known to have a wife. But again,
- 25:16Speaker 2: for us, he was elusive. Manny... Manny has been, in
- 25:23Speaker 2: my waking, much more in the public eye than Adam
- 25:28Speaker 2: ever was.
- 25:30Speaker 1: So Adam even shied the public.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yes. Richard was a fairly public figure.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Hmm. So if, you know, you were just looking at
- 25:41Speaker 1: a photo from that time, you wouldn't be able to
- 25:43Speaker 1: pull Adam out? You don't think?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Maybe just with context. He was still a famous person.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Do you know if he's still alive?
- 25:52Speaker 2: I wouldn't believe so. He'd be very old. Yes, he
- 26:01Speaker 2: wouldn't be too old.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Did you ever.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You know, I mean, he was your benefactor, but was
- 26:08Speaker 1: there anything that ever felt off that you remember?
- 26:14Speaker 2: We were young and we were fighting the good fight.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I think we felt lucky and blessed to be given
- 26:25Speaker 2: all that they gave. I think we took without asking
- 26:29Speaker 2: many questions.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I mean, that makes sense. Just I guess keep your
- 26:37Speaker 1: distance from Manny, if you wouldn't mind for now, or
- 26:40Speaker 1: let us know if he reaches out to you in
- 26:44Speaker 1: any way.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Very well.
- 26:47Speaker 7: Thanks.
- 26:48Speaker 1: It's all very strange.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I will rack my brain to think if I'm missing anything,
- 26:54Speaker 2: if anything's lost in my circuitry.
- 26:57Speaker 1: No, thank you. I appreciate it.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Of course.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Two-on-one foosball?
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yes, Rockfest is good.
- 27:04Speaker 5: He can create other appendages. Roll all the little guys.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Just look at these little guys.
- 27:14Speaker 4: I love forcing Johnny to have to yes and to
- 27:17Speaker 4: give us things that we want canonically that are not important.
- 27:20Speaker 2: To the plot. Yeah, they're just playing foosball, which we
- 27:22Speaker 2: have now in the basement. Foosball table is just there.
- 27:25Speaker 4: And there's a pinball machine and a ninja slushie.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Ooh, a ninja slushie. Ooh, I'll make the slushies. Then
- 27:34Speaker 1: two-on-one foosball.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Jameer, what are you doing with your final point of
- 27:39Speaker 2: thread chasing? Unmasked, I'm going to go talk to my sister.
- 27:47Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you find Lila at home one night after her practice. Hey, Jameer. Hey, sis.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Good to see you. How's practice? Good. I'm getting ready
- 28:02Speaker 2: for Kono Condors again. All right. All right. You know,
- 28:10Speaker 2: keep a solid base.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Knees over shoulders or under them, you know, depending on
- 28:15Speaker 3: the gravity.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I know, Jameer. Have you ever played shootball? No, just watched.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Just watched a lot. I got it. Armchair shootball coach.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Just wanted to ask, though. Yeah, what's up? You work
- 28:36Speaker 2: for Ellington Electric, yeah? Right, yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 3: I know we don't talk work a lot, and my
- 28:43Speaker 3: work is pretty boring. It Pays the bills, but the Ellingtons,
- 28:49Speaker 3: that's a big company.
- 28:51Speaker 2: That's a lot going on. Yeah, it's pretty cool. What's
- 28:55Speaker 2: your work over there like? Well, I'm just like an aide,
- 28:59Speaker 2: which is just like a fancy word for gopher. I
- 29:03Speaker 2: just go for coffee, go for extra notepads, go for
- 29:07Speaker 2: pens and pencils.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I understand that work, but when you're
- 29:14Speaker 3: doing that work, You know, you hear stuff.
- 29:17Speaker 2: You see shit.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I sure have, delivering, you know, coffees and sandwiches and
- 29:24Speaker 3: other stuff. Well, have you learned anything on the job?
- 29:31Speaker 3: Anything juicy?
- 29:33Speaker 2: I think this will need to be a roll. Okay. Okay.
- 29:40Speaker 1: A juicy roll roll for juice do you ever go
- 29:44Speaker 1: for your boss on the top of a collapsing building
- 29:47Speaker 1: while wearing a mech suit.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I'm just a gopher somebody roll why don't you roll
- 29:53Speaker 2: a d20 for me one to five will be not
- 29:57Speaker 2: so juicy Five to ten will be juicier. Ten to fifteen,
- 30:02Speaker 2: pretty juicy. Fifteen to twenty, the juiciest. The juiciest. I
- 30:08Speaker 2: got a ten. All right. A ten.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Medium juice.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Medium juice. Medium juice. You got that medium juice, girl.
- 30:20Speaker 1: You're just average.
- 30:22Speaker 2: You're a straight five. I mean, there's just, like, there's
- 30:29Speaker 2: a lot of places we're not allowed to go. I
- 30:32Speaker 2: guess that's pretty interesting. Like, you would think it's just, like,
- 30:36Speaker 2: an electric plant, right? Mm-hmm. Or something, but it's not.
- 30:41Speaker 2: There's laboratories there.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 30:44Speaker 2: There's... Tamir, it's so weird you're asking about this, because, like,
- 30:52Speaker 2: a few days ago, I saw past a door that,
- 30:57Speaker 2: Manny was coming out of... And there was... A lady... In.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Um.
- 31:06Speaker 2: It's one of those things where you see it and
- 31:08Speaker 2: you're like... Did I see that or is my mind
- 31:10Speaker 2: just being weird? Because he's very nice and everything's... And
- 31:14Speaker 2: they gave me a raise... Of course. Good work. And
- 31:18Speaker 2: so you're like... I don't want to like... Self-sabotage and
- 31:22Speaker 2: like see things that aren't really there... Just to like...
- 31:25Speaker 2: It can't be this good.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Anyway.
- 31:27Speaker 2: There was a lady in like a big tank. A tank? Yeah,
- 31:34Speaker 2: like blue fluid and there was wires all connected to
- 31:40Speaker 2: her and a breathing tube. That's creepy shit. Right? That's
- 31:47Speaker 2: not normal, right? That's not normal. Okay. I didn't tell
- 31:52Speaker 2: mom and dad, obviously, because they would freak. Yeah, maybe rightly,
- 31:57Speaker 2: but Yes, understood. So. So. Yeah. Fucking taste.
- 32:04Speaker 7: Foosball?
- 32:06Speaker 2: But other than that, it's really normal. Other than that,
- 32:09Speaker 2: normal shit. Yeah. But that, not normal shit. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I'd say. There's a big chunk of it I'm not
- 32:17Speaker 2: allowed to go in, though, which is, again, I think
- 32:19Speaker 2: that's weird. That was the only time you saw anything weird? Yeah. Yeah. Well.
- 32:27Speaker 2: I mean, other than the fact there's just a lot
- 32:29Speaker 2: of laboratories and, like, lots of stuff going on. Yeah.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Yeah, well, as cool as it is to learn about
- 32:37Speaker 3: all this shit, don't get into trouble.
- 32:41Speaker 2: It's a good gig.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 32:42Speaker 2: It's a good gig. Yeah, man, it's a good gig.
- 32:45Speaker 2: All right.
- 32:47Speaker 3: And if you ever need work, I mean, you know,
- 32:50Speaker 3: you can always join me in the bike business.
- 32:54Speaker 1: All right.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Yeah, well, no thanks. You have this talk with your sister,
- 33:00Speaker 2: gaining a little information about something weird she's seen.
- 33:03Speaker 4: You've got such nice, like, sister goggles on. I'd be like,
- 33:06Speaker 4: she couldn't be lying about anything.
- 33:09Speaker 2: I'll take it. Face value. So nice of you. Little sib.
- 33:13Speaker 2: She can't get one. And we enter unmasked life. What
- 33:18Speaker 2: did we give to unmasked life, everybody? Four. Four. Two. Two.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Two for the other two of you. Two, two. Jason,
- 33:27Speaker 2: what are you doing with your four and unmasked? I
- 33:30Speaker 2: did a two, two.
- 33:33Speaker 4: So I think first order of operations, I don't know
- 33:36Speaker 4: if you want the big picture, if you kind of
- 33:37Speaker 4: want things in phases here, but I think first things first,
- 33:41Speaker 4: I do want to get over to the library and help.
- 33:47Speaker 4: I suppose if it's Henry Hill and his team or whatever, like,
- 33:51Speaker 4: rebuilding the library, restocking the shelves, trying to get it
- 33:54Speaker 4: back up and running. I don't know if it's going
- 33:56Speaker 4: to be open soon, but you know, at the very least,
- 34:01Speaker 4: you know, get, get over there, be seen and know that,
- 34:05Speaker 4: you know, I.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Own the library now. So yeah, you go over there
- 34:09Speaker 2: and you haven't been around too much. There's a young
- 34:13Speaker 2: woman with a clipboard who's, I approach her immediately. Seems
- 34:18Speaker 2: to be in charge. You seem to be in charge
- 34:20Speaker 2: of things. That's right. Hi. I like your clipboard. Thank you.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Seems like it's got schedules and plans for the library.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. Well, and organization, where everything goes. My name
- 34:36Speaker 2: is Julia.
- 34:37Speaker 7: Great.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Jason.
- 34:38Speaker 6: Hi.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Hi. Oh, Jason. Jason Turner. Yes. Owner of... An operator
- 34:43Speaker 2: of the Pendragon Library. Oh, my God. I'm so glad
- 34:46Speaker 2: you're here. I don't have a clipboard or anything, so
- 34:48Speaker 2: I understand. Well, no. I mean, there's a lot I
- 34:51Speaker 2: need to go over with you about where you want things.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I have thoughts. Okay. You and Julia get to work.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Absolutely doing this library. Doing it up. Absolutely doing this library.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Doing it up. She has been given a lot of stuff.
- 35:10Speaker 1: We're like Abso-Bookly.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Along with the stuff from America, a lot of books
- 35:25Speaker 2: have come in from Henry Hilland. She works for Henry,
- 35:29Speaker 2: and she was put in charge of giving the library
- 35:35Speaker 2: back to the people. It has been fully rebuilt. rebuilt
- 35:39Speaker 2: to look as close to the old one as possible. You,
- 35:43Speaker 2: you certainly feel the difference immediately, but yes, you, you
- 35:48Speaker 2: rebuild the library with, uh, with Julia. She's, uh, very bookish.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I think the two of you get along very well.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Is there, and you can say no, if this is
- 35:57Speaker 4: not fall under unmasked life, but like, while I'm hanging
- 36:01Speaker 4: out doing this, is there any chance of like carving
- 36:04Speaker 4: out some, like we need this part for load bearing, uh,
- 36:08Speaker 4: or like, this is the, Arthur would have wanted an
- 36:12Speaker 4: adult section of the library for porn. I want to
- 36:15Speaker 4: sneak in a secret room in the library plans.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I'll say you can do that. Ooh, I love that. Nice.
- 36:23Speaker 2: A sanctum.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Very good.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Fun.
- 36:26Speaker 6: For porn.
- 36:27Speaker 2: A porn sanctum. Yeah, no superhero stuff down there. It's
- 36:32Speaker 2: all superhero. It's all superhero porn. Always, dude. Where do
- 36:37Speaker 2: you want it to be? Because I think you could
- 36:40Speaker 2: have been a part of some of the design discussion, certainly.
- 36:43Speaker 4: I think if we've already got the nest as, like, underground,
- 36:48Speaker 4: I'm thinking cool attic, atrium, like, in the clock tower.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Of the library.
- 36:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Overlooking the city dramatically.
- 36:58Speaker 7: Love it.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Great. Jameer, what was one thing you wanted to do
- 37:01Speaker 2: with Unmasked Life? I think Jameer does want to, like,
- 37:06Speaker 2: Pick up some shifts. With the city feeling a little slower,
- 37:11Speaker 2: I just want to be in it. I want to
- 37:13Speaker 2: be delivering food. I want to be riding around on
- 37:15Speaker 2: my hover bike.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Connecting with the people, seeing life from the ground.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you get back in and pick up a couple
- 37:24Speaker 2: shifts with Joey. Maybe, you know, almost close to a
- 37:28Speaker 2: full week of work. Yeah. Jameer, you haven't been around.
- 37:33Speaker 3: You know me, been picking up bread from all kinds
- 37:35Speaker 3: of places, but have to come back to see my
- 37:38Speaker 3: main man.
- 37:39Speaker 2: You gotta hustle, man. You gotta hustle. And you pick
- 37:42Speaker 2: up some shifts in the city. Yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Hovering around on the hover bike, saying hi, smiling and nodding.
- 37:50Speaker 3: It feels a little weird being down below and not
- 37:54Speaker 3: up above, which is wild that so much has changed
- 37:58Speaker 3: so fast.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Quanta, what's one thing you wanted to do with
- 38:02Speaker 2: unmasked life?
- 38:03Speaker 1: I would like to go to work within the back
- 38:07Speaker 1: of my mind, remembering that Manny had stopped by before.
- 38:11Speaker 1: So I think every time a customer comes, a slight
- 38:16Speaker 1: little hope that it's going to be him again. Yeah.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Hey, Gabe, any messages while I was out?
- 38:25Speaker 2: Nothing specific, Ronnie.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Great, great.
- 38:29Speaker 2: But.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Just throwing on my fancy robe.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Tying it up, throwing dust.
- 38:35Speaker 2: On the floor. Sorry. But people are always excited to
- 38:41Speaker 2: see you.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Great.
- 38:42Speaker 2: And you go back to work and do some readings
- 38:44Speaker 2: with people. Jason, another thing from you. Gonna see Paige.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Gotta go to the hospital to see Paige. How much
- 38:52Speaker 2: time do you think you spend with Paige? You gave
- 38:55Speaker 2: a four, so.
- 38:57Speaker 4: I think if the library was only kind of one
- 39:00Speaker 4: point's worth, then I would say probably just another one
- 39:06Speaker 4: point here.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Okay. So maybe if it's over two weeks, a few days,
- 39:12Speaker 2: but sleeping there overnight, certainly sometimes. Hospital chairs. Yeah. So
- 39:19Speaker 2: you check in with Paige... Her vitals are all fine
- 39:24Speaker 2: and even. The doctors say that strange sort of thing
- 39:28Speaker 2: of like, it's just up to them now and they
- 39:31Speaker 2: want to come back kind of thing yeah um still
- 39:35Speaker 2: very unsure of what will happen when Paige returns we're
- 39:38Speaker 2: gonna save a Paige scene till the end of this
- 39:42Speaker 2: unmasked heard um but there will be something with Paige
- 39:47Speaker 2: down the line nice mmm Jameer.
- 39:51Speaker 5: Yes.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Your last point. Or were both those points for work? No,
- 39:56Speaker 2: just one.
- 39:57Speaker 3: Yes, what's your last point in Unmasked? I want to
- 40:00Speaker 3: go to some kind of shoot town hall.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I want to.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I just want to.
- 40:09Speaker 3: I don't plan to speak, but I want to hear, like,
- 40:14Speaker 3: the core gang had a real peak. under Cordula the
- 40:19Speaker 3: last few months. How's the Soma Prince doing? How are
- 40:23Speaker 3: people feeling? Are we still getting yummy yummies from the
- 40:27Speaker 3: space barge?
- 40:28Speaker 2: What's going on? How did the shoot ball vendors feel?
- 40:32Speaker 2: Can they return?
- 40:33Speaker 1: They filibuster.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I'm Jason. And I'm Jason.
- 40:40Speaker 1: And we have some thoughts about vending.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Close down Pachowski's dogs. Am I right? Yeah. Because they're
- 40:47Speaker 2: putting strain on the good old shoot dogs.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Get rid of the American fruit coming in because we.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Got shoot fruit. We got our own shoot fruit.
- 40:56Speaker 5: Pull out a t-shirt cannon, but it's full of apples.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Oh, God. Yeah, those two idiots are certainly at the
- 41:08Speaker 2: shoot town hall. It does happen in the shoot ball arena.
- 41:12Speaker 2: It's a good place for everyone to sit. True. And yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 2: I think in the shoot, a town hall would be
- 41:21Speaker 2: like wild. There are a lot of crazy people that
- 41:25Speaker 2: show up and say crazy things. There's one guy who's like,
- 41:31Speaker 2: I have had a mango. Every day.
- 41:34Speaker 7: Yeah!
- 41:37Speaker 1: Jason, the vendor, loves that.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Respect. Respect. Every day. And it gave me bad diarrhea,
- 41:46Speaker 2: and I'm mad about it. Boo. Boo. Yeah, that's right.
- 41:50Speaker 2: We don't want diarrhea when we ate mangoes. No! That's
- 41:55Speaker 2: our number one priority. Boo. Boo. Boo. So I think
- 42:03Speaker 2: it is wild. There is no core presence there. None. Okay.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Normally one of the captains would show up to a
- 42:15Speaker 2: thing like this, but there is no one. There is
- 42:19Speaker 2: a shoot elder who has been in the shoot for
- 42:23Speaker 2: a long, long time that tries to keep things organized
- 42:25Speaker 2: and tries to actually hear pleas and promises to try
- 42:30Speaker 2: to get in touch with the core. but it is
- 42:33Speaker 2: a little chaotic, Jameer. Okay.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Jameer sees the eyes of the people, the fear, the uncertainty,
- 42:44Speaker 3: and it doesn't sit well in his belly.
- 42:48Speaker 1: You need some Tums?
- 42:50Speaker 2: Later. Later. Get your Tums here, red hot Tums. God
- 42:57Speaker 2: damn it. Off the grill.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Fresh off the grill.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Quanta, your last point in Unmasked.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I will go to family dinner.
- 43:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:08Speaker 2: You go to family dinner.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Yes. Through the course of the evening, you know, I
- 43:16Speaker 1: wanted to hug my parents just after, you know, our
- 43:20Speaker 1: heavy discussion about what's coming for the three of us
- 43:24Speaker 1: last episode. But then I try to like get Sandy
- 43:31Speaker 1: to talk about work more. And cause there's been so
- 43:36Speaker 1: much happening in the city, like something had have to
- 43:40Speaker 1: pass through her office. And Quanta even realizes like, I
- 43:43Speaker 1: don't even know who my mom works for. Like what,
- 43:48Speaker 1: you know, she, she got me off the hook, but
- 43:50Speaker 1: that was just her knowing how to navigate the law here. Yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 1: So maybe like during dessert, just being like, mom, There's
- 44:00Speaker 1: been so much going on, like the murders of those
- 44:04Speaker 1: gang leaders.
- 44:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Talk about judgment and the council swearing in Henry.
- 44:11Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 1: What are your thoughts legally about all this?
- 44:18Speaker 2: Oh, man. Well, it's a mess. It's a mess because
- 44:21Speaker 2: there's so little precedent for everything. It's a mess because...
- 44:26Speaker 2: the city charter is old and, and kind of confusing.
- 44:31Speaker 2: It's a mess because when there was no mayor, there's
- 44:34Speaker 2: no higher authority really. And the system of judges was
- 44:39Speaker 2: so corrupt under the last mayor. A lot of that's
- 44:43Speaker 2: been cleared out thanks to Henry. So we're happy about that. Um,
- 44:46Speaker 2: but you know, a lot of it right now is
- 44:49Speaker 2: assigning new judges and, I was doing a lot of
- 44:53Speaker 2: just like insurance claims and bullshit. They had to call
- 44:56Speaker 2: us down for all the destruction in Kono that happened
- 45:00Speaker 2: at the mayor's skyscraper. So, yeah, I've been kind of
- 45:06Speaker 2: doing grunt work, honestly, but it's what's got to happen
- 45:09Speaker 2: for the city to heal.
- 45:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry I don't know this, but who do you
- 45:14Speaker 1: work for? Are you part of a firm? Are you
- 45:16Speaker 1: like in-house?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Winston, Winston and Cantor. I'm a partner with them.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Sorry that I didn't know.
- 45:23Speaker 2: That's fine. It's boring. Pretty boring.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Kind of is.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Hey, me and your mom were talking. You're Quanta, right? Yeah.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm Quanta.
- 45:36Speaker 2: We fucking knew it. Yeah, honey. We just wanted to
- 45:40Speaker 2: say we're really proud of you. And we want you
- 45:43Speaker 2: to be safe. I know it's very dangerous what you're doing.
- 45:47Speaker 2: But we love you.
- 45:48Speaker 1: I love you guys, too. And I'm... Sorry I didn't
- 45:51Speaker 1: just come out and say it.
- 45:53Speaker 2: No, I get it. Hey, kick their ass out there
- 45:55Speaker 2: when they need it, all right?
- 45:57Speaker 1: We're trying. We're really trying.
- 45:58Speaker 2: No, I know you are. It's tough. We're proud of you.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Sorry that we're part of the grunt work you got
- 46:05Speaker 1: to do.
- 46:06Speaker 2: No, hey, if it had actually fallen over, there'd be
- 46:09Speaker 2: a lot more to do. So you guys did great.
- 46:11Speaker 2: We saw you up there. Thanks. That's when I think
- 46:15Speaker 2: Your mom and she is known for a while, but
- 46:17Speaker 2: that's when I knew for sure. I was like, hey,
- 46:18Speaker 2: that's my girl holding up that building. Come on. Come on.
- 46:24Speaker 1: We're trying to hold up a lot, moms.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we asked your dad, too, and he was not
- 46:29Speaker 2: good at lying.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he's not.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I basically told him. I started sweating. It's okay, Dad.
- 46:37Speaker 2: And I said, no, no, no, she's not.
- 46:40Speaker 1: It's okay, Dad. I'm honestly surprised you Didn't tell them sooner.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it's tough for me to lie to your
- 46:48Speaker 2: moms again about how I went last time.
- 46:50Speaker 1: That makes sense. And I'm sorry I put you in
- 46:53Speaker 1: that position.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Hey, that's okay.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Well, what do you... Do you really think that me
- 47:01Speaker 1: and my friends that we're doing good?
- 47:04Speaker 2: Sandy shrugs. The mayor was as corrupt as they come.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he was a piece of shit.
- 47:11Speaker 7: Yes.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Yes. We had a good life under him. And most
- 47:17Speaker 2: people didn't. And that's not fair. I think his removal
- 47:21Speaker 2: is a good thing. But that's the problem is you
- 47:26Speaker 2: cut off one head and what happens?
- 47:31Speaker 1: We're trying to figure that out.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Also, do you think, I mean, you know, you never
- 47:39Speaker 1: raised me this way, but Are there, are there day that,
- 47:43Speaker 1: that think like we're better than humans?
- 47:45Speaker 2: I mean, mostly in that church.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:48Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Well, besides that.
- 47:49Speaker 2: That your dad and you hung out at.
- 47:52Speaker 1: But that was, that was, that was different than like
- 47:55Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. That was like soft power.
- 47:58Speaker 7: Hmm.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I mean, not saying it's good.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Just.
- 48:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 48:03Speaker 2: No, there aren't any day groups that I know about
- 48:06Speaker 2: that are what you're saying, like day supremacists.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but I guess you're right. The church does come
- 48:13Speaker 1: kind of close to that.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Close as it is, you know.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess I just really wanted to distance myself
- 48:21Speaker 1: from them that I haven't really thought about it in
- 48:24Speaker 1: a while.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good idea.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I really messed up with all of that.
- 48:31Speaker 2: You live and you learn.
- 48:34Speaker 1: That's a nice way to put you destroy people's lives
- 48:37Speaker 1: and then Try to make up for it by becoming
- 48:39Speaker 1: a vigilante in the night.
- 48:40Speaker 2: But that's your journey, and we're so proud of it.
- 48:45Speaker 2: That's what your 20s are for. That's what your 20s
- 48:48Speaker 2: are for.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Thanks, Mommy. Can I have another cookie?
- 48:51Speaker 2: Of course.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Mommy.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Of course. Mommy. You hang out at family dinner. All right, Jason,
- 48:59Speaker 2: back to you. You got two more points. Two more points.
- 49:03Speaker 4: They're both going to getting some tests done.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Take this book out of me. I do not want
- 49:10Speaker 2: to be a superhero. Unmask me forever. Whoa.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Unmask me forever, daddy.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Daddy. Magic tooth daddy. You go to Ellington's. You greet
- 49:25Speaker 2: the girl at the front desk. Hi. Oh, yeah, this girl.
- 49:30Speaker 2: You still work here?
- 49:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Why wouldn't I? No reason. You're so good at your job.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I learned about sarcasm. And you were being sarcastic just now?
- 49:44Speaker 2: Was it not obvious? I don't know. Are you being
- 49:50Speaker 2: sarcastic right now? Fuck, this is hard. Maybe. Are you
- 49:54Speaker 2: flirting with me? I don't know. Fuck, I don't know.
- 49:57Speaker 2: I got an appointment. You go into your appointment. She
- 50:03Speaker 2: walks you back, and you do head into a very
- 50:07Speaker 2: hospital-looking office. hospital-esque section of the electric plant that is
- 50:13Speaker 2: Ellington Electric. More hospital cheers. Manny said he was sorry
- 50:18Speaker 2: he wasn't going to be here, but he says he'll
- 50:21Speaker 2: look at the test results and write you a letter. Yeah,
- 50:24Speaker 2: that's okay. Thanks. Whatever. Hey, whatever to you too. Thanks.
- 50:33Speaker 2: A doctor comes in. They strap you in, Jason. They
- 50:36Speaker 2: run every kind of medical test that is runnable. MRI, scans,
- 50:44Speaker 2: blood tests. Name two more. X-rays. That's one. Brain scans.
- 50:51Speaker 2: I don't know. Any kind of medical test. Can they also,
- 50:56Speaker 2: I just request one. Yeah, urine is good. Urine. Urine.
- 51:01Speaker 4: I just want to be laid flat on top of
- 51:03Speaker 4: like a Xerox copy machine.
- 51:05Speaker 2: They scan the book. They scan you on a Xerox
- 51:12Speaker 2: to get really grainy images of the book. Yes. You
- 51:16Speaker 2: run tests with the folks at Ellington and Manny's going
- 51:21Speaker 2: to get back to you.
- 51:23Speaker 4: And he, In this part of the facility too, is
- 51:26Speaker 4: there opportunity for like a little bit of downtime snooping too?
- 51:30Speaker 4: Is there anything I can just like poke around at,
- 51:32Speaker 4: peek at while I'm here?
- 51:34Speaker 2: Absolutely. Sneak around? I don't know if it's something I
- 51:37Speaker 2: would do, but sneak around. So just disappearing from the
- 51:42Speaker 2: table or not being walked out, both of those are
- 51:46Speaker 2: going to draw quite a bit of Oh, no, no, no, no.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Don't worry. Hospital gowns are made of paper. I don't
- 51:54Speaker 2: think so. Shitty ones. Or whatever the thing they cover
- 51:59Speaker 2: the table with. I want to disappear into that. No,
- 52:04Speaker 2: I don't need to go. But you know what I mean?
- 52:06Speaker 2: I could send Mr. Crinkles on some recon. Yeah, roll...
- 52:10Speaker 2: You can also just do a general paper scan of
- 52:12Speaker 2: the building. Roll an investigation check here with... Your paper sense.
- 52:20Speaker 2: This is a difficult check. I'm rolling a D12. All right.
- 52:23Speaker 4: This will be a D8 plus a D6 for me.
- 52:25Speaker 2: I rolled a three. I got a five. Nice. Witter. Five.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Are you looking for anything specific?
- 52:33Speaker 4: I think so. I think generally I want to see
- 52:36Speaker 4: if there's any signs that connect with You know, any
- 52:43Speaker 4: indication of Adam Ellington, any other kind of experiments happening? Like,
- 52:46Speaker 4: I'm going to stay in this sort of wing.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:48Speaker 4: The hospital side, lab side. I don't think Jason would
- 52:53Speaker 4: know about tube stuff that Jameer discussed with his sister. But,
- 52:58Speaker 4: you know, if that's in this part of the building,
- 53:00Speaker 4: I would certainly be looking for other patients. Like, they've
- 53:02Speaker 4: got a whole hospital here. Like, who else is being
- 53:05Speaker 4: researched upon? What's the research happening here?
- 53:08Speaker 2: Okay. If that's where you're... If that's where you're focused,
- 53:12Speaker 2: I think. Unless you think there's another place I should
- 53:14Speaker 2: be focused. If you want to tell me where I
- 53:17Speaker 2: should be focused, I will focus there. But that is
- 53:20Speaker 2: what I'm thinking about focusing on. You got a success
- 53:23Speaker 2: and you beat me by two. I think in a
- 53:25Speaker 2: general scan, you send Mr. Crinkles around, you do just
- 53:28Speaker 2: a broad paper scan. The things on paper that come
- 53:32Speaker 2: back to you, because you're the paper guy. That's me.
- 53:37Speaker 2: There is a room. Labeled Hannah Hilland. I knew.
- 53:44Speaker 6: It.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Mr.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Freestyle. Sick wife in a tube. Honestly, Mr. Freestyle. Honestly, Mr. Freestyle.
- 53:50Speaker 2: If you're going to call me on it, honestly, Mr.
- 53:53Speaker 5: Freestyle.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Every man has dreamed of taking the love of his
- 53:58Speaker 3: life and having her get a bad disease that needed
- 54:01Speaker 3: to put her in a tube so he can mourn
- 54:03Speaker 3: over the idea of her rather than live with the
- 54:06Speaker 3: reality of her.
- 54:07Speaker 2: All thought about it. I feel gross. The other thing
- 54:13Speaker 2: you get, and this is in Manny's office, which you've
- 54:15Speaker 2: been to. I think because you've been there, you know
- 54:17Speaker 2: it's relatively close. You scan that a little bit as well.
- 54:21Speaker 2: You find a family tree.
- 54:23Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 54:24Speaker 2: There is Richard. Richard had no wife and had no heir.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Adam was adopted. Adam is next to a woman named Nora.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Nora Ellington. The two... Beneath Adam and Nora, there are
- 54:48Speaker 2: two children. Diane and Carver. The name Adam is crossed
- 55:02Speaker 2: out in pen and replaced with the name Emmanuel.
- 55:11Speaker 6: Oh my God. My God, he did it.
- 55:29Speaker 2: He did it. He did it. The rat bastard. A
- 55:37Speaker 2: dramatic breeze opens just the back of Jason's hospital gown.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Cat flies back in. So you gain that knowledge and
- 55:49Speaker 2: you get tested. All kinds of fun tests. Every fluid.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Every fluid and scan.
- 55:56Speaker 1: The reflexes.
- 55:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got acid reflux.
- 56:00Speaker 1: I saw the little hammer on your knee.
- 56:02Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Hammer on my... Real delayed. Hammer on the knee. Ten
- 56:06Speaker 2: seconds go by. Oh, my leg. Is that good? You
- 56:11Speaker 2: shouldn't eat so many hot dogs. It's like a really
- 56:14Speaker 2: bland doctor. Give it to me straight, doc.
- 56:18Speaker 1: You've had reflux because you have a book for an esophagus.
- 56:22Speaker 4: Yeah. All of my neural pathways. Yeah, my spine is
- 56:28Speaker 4: Fused with a book spine.
- 56:31Speaker 2: One of the nights you go to visit Paige, you
- 56:37Speaker 2: visit her often. She sleeps, breathes quietly. What do you do?
- 56:43Speaker 2: Do you talk to her? Do you just sit there?
- 56:45Speaker 2: Do you read to her? What do you do?
- 56:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I'll read to her mostly, but every
- 56:51Speaker 4: once in a while I'll just sort of start to
- 56:53Speaker 4: talk to her as if she's awake and alive and
- 56:55Speaker 4: normal and give her updates. tell her what kind of
- 56:58Speaker 4: stuff I'm learning, paper phantom secrets, all of it. I'm
- 57:01Speaker 4: just sort of just talking to process. Uh, and I
- 57:05Speaker 4: think all the while to specifically the paper phantom suit
- 57:13Speaker 4: is like, again, off of me. It's like chilling in
- 57:17Speaker 4: the corner, floating, looming presence, but never speaking.
- 57:23Speaker 2: There's one night you enter the room. And there's a
- 57:27Speaker 2: man in there. Paige is off of her hospital bed
- 57:34Speaker 2: on a floating, not like hover tech, but on a
- 57:38Speaker 2: floating gurney. Over her, there are two straps that glow
- 57:44Speaker 2: blue with zero point energy. The guy turns his head,
- 57:50Speaker 2: looks at you. He's in a trench coat. He's bald.
- 57:53Speaker 2: He has scruffy face hair. He says, ah, shit. You're
- 57:58Speaker 2: not a doctor. That's true. Hey, kid, listen, I need
- 58:03Speaker 2: to take care. You gotta understand.
- 58:06Speaker 3: What?
- 58:08Speaker 2: Uh, I don't think so. Oh, this is gonna be
- 58:12Speaker 2: so much to explain. Well, you can explain it to me,
- 58:16Speaker 2: or you can explain it to me. The cloak flies back,
- 58:21Speaker 2: covers me up, dukes up, swords out. His big trench
- 58:25Speaker 2: coat flies back. He pulls out two guns, which are
- 58:31Speaker 2: unlike anything you've ever seen. They have long barrels, but
- 58:37Speaker 2: they're both handheld. The face of the barrel glows orange,
- 58:42Speaker 2: and he hasn't even fired. They don't look like normal-sized
- 58:46Speaker 2: bullet holes. He says, I wouldn't try it, kid. My
- 58:51Speaker 2: name is Brock. Does that mean anything to you? Rock Danton,
- 58:55Speaker 2: does that mean anything anymore? Moonslayer? How long has it been?
- 59:03Speaker 2: Does it mean anything that I'm missing?
- 59:07Speaker 1: Yeah, he's one of the OG Evos. That like fought
- 59:12Speaker 1: in the war. Yeah, he's the one that destroyed the moon.
- 59:17Speaker 2: And he's stealing your girl. I don't know if I
- 59:19Speaker 2: would know that. Brock Danton is... Is he famous? He's
- 59:23Speaker 2: so famous. Okay, great. Him and William... So William Blainer
- 59:28Speaker 2: is famous for... making the day people, you know, that
- 59:31Speaker 2: much Brock Denton famous for, um, the creation of the, uh,
- 59:37Speaker 2: bombs of life and the blowing up of the moon
- 59:40Speaker 2: on accident. Yeah. Does that name mean anything? Brock Denton, moonslayer.
- 59:46Speaker 2: I mean, vaguely. Listen, I love your whole thing. Honestly,
- 59:53Speaker 2: big fan. Hey, I'm enjoying what you're putting down too,
- 59:56Speaker 2: but you can't take her. Let me tell you why
- 59:59Speaker 2: before we have to fight, okay? All right. I represent
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: the Evos of Io. Except we're changing. Best thing we
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: can figure is that far away from Mother Earth out there,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: we're de-evolving. Devolving. Moving a step back the evolutionary chain. Okay.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: And devolving. Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: We're all just becoming normal people again, but our society
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: on Evo is built on our abilities. It's how we
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: live out there. An entity of pure evolutionary energy popped
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: up on our scanners. We haven't cared much about what's
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: going on on Earth for a while. So for the
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: first time in fucking decades, I'm back on Earth, and
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: I think she can help us.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: Aww.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: What?
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Where she goes, I go. I can't take you to space, kid. Well,
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: you can't take her. I'm not letting her go. She's
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: all I have left. Hey, I'll bring her back. Maybe.
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: Oh, no!
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: How do you like that for a guarantee? There are
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: evos that keep us alive. The death toll, if the
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: devolving continues, will be catastrophic. If there's a shot, he
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: lifts his guns. I gotta take it. You say you're
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: a fan of the paper phantom and his vibe. Sure. Well,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: I don't think you know me that well. That's right.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: And that's where we'll end this episode of the Team
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Up Play Show Podcast.
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: Woo!
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: All right. We'll do a little bit more screeching in
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: the chat cave.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Like little chats. Like the little chats we are.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Like the little fucking chats we are. Join us on
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: our post show in the chat cave. It's on our Patreon, see?
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: And it's patreon.com slash teamuprpg. And we'll see you over there.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: But more importantly, we'll see you next week with another
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: episode and find out what's going on with the moonslayer.
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: Whoa.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: Bye. Bye.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Bye-bye. Fly me to the moon. It's destroyed. The moon.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Months before our heroes meet. Bless me, Father, for I
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: have sinned. I have never come before to confess.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Ah, yes.
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: Thank you for coming, my child. You should know I'm
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: not a father. Merely a deacon here at the church...
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: Father Arthur is, uh, indisposed.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: So you cannot offer me absolution?
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: Well, no. I can only offer a listening ear and counsel,
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: as I was instructed.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: That's all right, I suppose. I don't think that I've
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: done any wrong.
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: Then why come to confessional?
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Why would you call me child as you are not
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: yet father?
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: Force of habit, I guess. For my own time in
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: the seat in which you now sit.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Perhaps this was a bad idea. No, no.
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: Please. I want to listen. It's important to empty our
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: minds before God, child. Go on.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: You're going to have to stop calling me child, deacon.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Of course. Well, if you're willing to listen, be aware
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: that what I'm about to say may seem insane. No
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: one has listened to me with any sincerity. That is alright.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: The Lord God hears every plea.
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: It's okay. Go on.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: I've come to seek spiritual guidance. I don't believe in
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: your narrow view of what God is. But I think
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: that I... Am God forced to walk among mortals? For
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: some reason, sent here to Earth to do godly works.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Sent here to do something, but I feel unfulfilled. Trapped
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: in an earthly body. I'm looking to be freed. But
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: I don't know how. I don't know what work has
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: yet been undone. I've tried everything. So much good. It's
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: the only explanation for the wonders and horrors of my life.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: I'm worried I'll... Deacon? You think I'm crazy. Well, then
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: it was a mistake to come here. Have a good day, sir.
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: No, no, no. Forgive my silence. It's not what I
- 1:05:33Speaker 7: was expecting, but I am intrigued. What makes you think
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: this way? Are you a day of the Church of
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: New Babel Day?
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: No, I am not. But to your first question, there
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: is much to say. Where do you want me to begin?
- 1:05:50Speaker 7: At the beginning, I suppose. I have time. It is
- 1:05:56Speaker 7: rare that people come into confession at this time of day.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Very well. The beginning. I think of Horus, god of Egypt,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: the gods and demigods of Greece... Krishna, Karna of Hinduism,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: and even the Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, and your Christ, of course.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: All birthed miraculously, all God.
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: Was your birth miraculous?
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Yes. My parents were biochemists. They were chosen to leave
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: this rock and reach the heavens. Save this earth and
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: find new worlds in space. And they left me here. Tragic.
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: Yes, but not miraculous. Also, you don't seem old enough
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: to have been a baby at that time.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: I wasn't finished, Deacon.
- 1:06:51Speaker 7: Forgive me. Continue.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: They left me as a mass of cells and other
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: experimental genetic material in a canister full of biofluid. They
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: didn't know it, but their work in genetic enhancement was working.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I could hear and see them without being able to communicate.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: These are my first memories. Every other subject had failed,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: so when they left for space, they left me. I
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: wasn't supposed to make it, so what guilt could they feel?
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: I remember them turning out the lights, shutting out the
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: power to my glass womb and leaving me. Abandoned. I
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: grew until I was strong enough to break my prison.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: I was what you would call a child, but I
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: was stronger. Smarter, tougher. A miraculous birth. A wonder.
- 1:07:49Speaker 7: I suppose that it is.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: To be continued.
- 1:08:08Speaker 8: That was Ethan Goldman as the Paper Phantom. Stephanie Fackler
- 1:08:13Speaker 8: as Quanta, Ben as Rigel, and Johnny Wilson as your
- 1:08:17Speaker 8: game director and the creator of Team Up.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: And special thank you to Matt Jacobs as the Deacon.
- 1:08:25Speaker 8: If you enjoyed this play show podcast, please share it
- 1:08:28Speaker 8: with friends and family.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: That is what helps us out the most.

- 1:10:05Speaker 4: early grave. Shout out to Jen, who prefers the Star

- 1:11:09Speaker 4: dreams come true. And I hope you're not in an
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: early grave.
