Transcript
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, welcome to a very special episode of Skincare Anarchy.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: This is going to be an episode where I am the only one you're going to hear because this is an explanation for our Science of Skin 2023 awards.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Now, as you guys know, we started these awards last year with our first cohort, and I am so proud that, you know, even this year, all of those people that were awarded, all the brands that were awarded, all 10 brands from last year, are still, you know, tried and true even this year.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And that is really the premise of these awards, and that is scientific accuracy, efficacy, and validity when it comes to skin health and germal sciences.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Now, I say that um because that's really where I want to start with explaining to you how we came to the decisions that we came to, why we created these awards, what they really actually represent, and what these brands represent that are being awarded.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: You know, as you guys know, the skincare industry is extremely, you know, just saturated.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of brands out there, there's a lot of options out there.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And as much as I love that, and as much as I am like all of you, which is in the sense of, you know, I love trying new products, I love trying new, you know, formulas and um new ideas and concepts.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: There is this desire in me as a consumer, and I think all of us can relate to this, which is we just want to know what works, and we want to know what we can go to, what are the brands that we can turn to for real results.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm talking things like you know, signs of aging, signs of hyperpigmentation being um, you know, alleviated, things that are just everyday concerns, acne, you know, actinocuritosis, these little things that not little, but you know, things that we are often um trying to target, trying to fix on our own by discovering brands, discovering products, but we always run into a wall, right?
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's I think the premise of the entire um confusion in the skincare industry.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And with that, I decided, you know, this award ceremony and these awards specifically, size of skin awards, were in the works for three years.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: You know, I knew in the very beginning of launching the podcast that I wanted to eventually create an award that was only going to be for a select few brands that had demonstrated to me and to a committee of my colleagues that could validate my opinions as well as in you know put in their opinions and really kind of have this voting system, a peer review system that we could analyze brands that are doing the right thing from a scientific standpoint.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: So, with all of that verbiage, all of that being said, I want to really get down to the nitty-gritty of it.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: This year we have released our 10 winners, and I am so proud of every single one of them.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I have hosted all of them.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: They are phenomenal brands, they are you know brands that I stand behind 1000%, as does the committee of um scientists that have voted on these brands.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: We really believe in their efficacy and we believe in their validity, and we also think that they are you know brands that represent great dermal science that can be applied to pretty much everybody.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So I don't care if you have you know just normal skin, I don't care if you have, you know, acne-prone skin, or if you have, you know, maybe even think certain, you know, certain people have bouts of eczema, for example, you know, even if you have some of the worst possible situation going on with your skin, you can still turn to these brands and look through their lineup and find something for you.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And that is the premise of the brands.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: So uh the awards.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: So with that being said, I want to really dive in.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I want to go through each one of the brands that were awarded and tell you why we gave the award to each of them.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: So, you know, bear with me as I go through this, but I think that we you'll, you know, once you guys understand it, you'll really start to get behind it and you'll get behind um purchasing from each of these brands because they're they're truly remarkable.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Um, so the first one up is uh Michael Morrison.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: So Michael Morrison is a brand that stands for um what I like to think of as truly um well-applied biochemistry, well-applied uh medical physiology, and you know, true biological sciences.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Because they're dealing with the skin on a molecular level.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: They're dealing with the skin in a way that we don't often see with chemistry-heavy brands.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: You know, we live in a world right now where I think cosmetic chemistry is the king.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And as much as I love it, as much as I appreciate it, I don't fully agree with that.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: I think the real um solutions are when we dive into the molecular um aspects of skin health.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And I know you guys have heard me say that time and time again, you know, on the podcast when I'm interviewing various guests, but really the skin is a very dynamic organ.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: It's something that shifts and moves as we age, as we grow, even on the daily, as we're exposed to different stressors and different environments, it's always changing and it's always growing and adapting.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And Michael Morrison's brand is exactly all of that, um, you know, kind of summed up.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: So basically, the brand has one product, and this one product is a serum type of product.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: It is dealing with a new technology called their beta stem six technology.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Um, it has a tripeptide powerplex complex in it.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: It also has things like hyaluronic acid for your nice humectant properties, and then it also has a copper amino acid complex in it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And why I love this brand so much, um, the you know, the product is called Genesis, beta stem six.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And why I love it so much is because um, you know, they're all ingredients and they're all the formula is uh proven on a molecular level to help with things like collagen production, um, you know, just really kind of uh what do you call it, stabilizing your barrier, stabilizing what you already have there.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: And that's the premise of this brand, in my opinion.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Um, we were talking about this one very, very heavily um during the committee meetings, and we realized that the you know the molecular biology behind all of this is very fascinating because we're really leaning towards as an entire industry, towards these brands that are you know really shouting from the rooftops that we need more, you know, more products that are going to sustain the skin barrier, not necessarily alter it, you know, and I say that w, you know, keeping in mind products that are very stripping to the skin.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Now, this can be cleansers, this can be exfoliators, this can be peels, uh, whatever that may be.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: You know, there are a lot of products out there that do that.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And so, what Michael Morrison represents to us here at Skincare Anarchy is a brand that has one phenomenal product right now that is doing a lot for your skin barrier in terms of support and support in in the sense of growth, in the sense of, you know, just letting it thrive in the environment that it's in, and in in addition to that, protecting it, you know.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: So it's really an all-in-one serum that they've created here, which is the Genesis product.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And so I really, really urge you guys to dive into the molecular chemistry and molecular biology of this product.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I think that you're going to discover that it's well worth the money because, again, like I said, you're dealing with a product here that has um, you know, essentially six to seven different products combined into one in a very sophisticated, scientifically applicable way.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: So that's really why we picked Michael Morrison for one of our awards.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I am really loving the science behind the brand, as I do with all the brands that were awarded, but this one is really great.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: And, you know, if you want to talk about minimalistic skincare, I mean, look no further.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: This is definitely, I think, a shining example of minimalistic skincare without compromising the science.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: So that's Michael Morrison, and I hope you guys will check them out and you will um really invest in the brand because I absolutely love it.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: I've been using it now for I think it's been about six months now.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: So I've been using it, it's a part of my daily routine, personally speaking.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I absolutely love it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: So now moving on, the next brand here is PCA Skin.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I think everyone has heard of PCA skin.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: The reason I love them so much is because they actually remind me of um, you know, the brands that have all of the clinical data behind them and they've got all these different products, except PCA just has something very special about their products.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Every single one is a home run.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: You know, I have tried pretty much their whole line.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: You know, you could you can ask them even, you know, I've asked them to send me product after product because I wanted to try everything.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: I wanted to test everything.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And after having gone through that experience, after having gone through um, you know, just countless trials with their products, you know, whether it's a mask, whether it's a serum, whether it's an overnight product that's um, you know, including things like retinol in it, or including things like peptides and just things that are there to nourish your skin, they deliver extraordinary results.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: And when I say extraordinary, I'm talking things like you will wake up and you will see a difference in your skin.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: And you know, for all of the people out there and all of this um the speculation that's out there when it comes to overnight results, um, you know, I would challenge that by simply suggesting PCA skin because the brand itself has products that you can apply, and in the next 24 hours or 12 hours, you're going to see a visible difference in your skin.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And I can say that with full confidence because, like I said, we have tried a lot of their products, pretty much the whole line.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, what we found as a committee was that even things like their hyaluronic acid mask, which is an overnight mask, will leave you feeling and looking as if the humectant actually did its job, which is trap water, keep it in your skin, and allow for that plumping effect to occur.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: And that's just a simple product.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: That's just hyaluronic acid.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: So, you know, just to give you a little glimpse of how efficacious they are, this is across the board, you know.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Another product I really love by them is one of um my favorite products.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: It's one of their masks, it's a peeling mask, it's a peel.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: You only apply it for you know one to three minutes on your skin.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: But if you do this peel once a week, it's going to give you results that are going to last the whole week.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm talking really genuinely like clinical grade skincare with PCA skin.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, I feel like if any of you out there have tried the brand already, you know what I'm talking about.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: And if there's any of you on the fence about the brand, you might have heard some chemist or somebody online talk about, you know, some of these clinical brands are so pricey.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Do we need them?
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, we do.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: That's the answer.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And I'm that's coming from me as a scientist, it's coming from me as a doctor.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: We do need them because PCA skin is a shining example of clinical skincare done right.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: And so I really recommend this brand.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: The whole committee was in unison when we voted on this one.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Um last year we were able to award another brand in their family, which was ELTA MD, which is another phenomenal brand.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And you know, it just it's this family of brand, guys.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: They just know what they're doing, they are really behind the science, they are really behind the science of skin, and they're just every single product is a home run.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: So check it out.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Um, I really urge you, it's worth the money, it's worth the hype.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, start with one product and you'll you'll see for yourself.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, so and also by the way, with some of the brands that are in our science of skin lineup that have multiple products and they have very large ranges, we're going to be all um, you know, providing the our select picks and our top picks that are coming up.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: So you can even wait around for that before you choose on which product you would like to purchase from them.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: So stay tuned for that as well.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And with PCA, they will definitely be there, and you'll see exactly the products I'm talking about, and you'll be able to reference them.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Now, the next one on our list is Epicutis.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Epicutis is a brilliant brand.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: This brand came onto my radar, I think, about a year and a half ago, if I'm not mistaken, and they just kind of took me by storm even back then.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: You know, um, the founder of the brand uh, you know, came onto our show, we had a great conversation, and then I even followed up with them by hosting their um, you know, their lead uh chemist, which is the brilliant mind behind the brand Hatalabo and their wonderful hyaluronic serums.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Now, if any of you know Hatolabo was one of the first companies to ever put hyaluronic serum on the map.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: Their serum was phenomenal.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: It was selling every two seconds.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: You know, one bottle was selling every two seconds.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: And so when I talked to Marky, who was who is their chief chemist, and I was speaking to him about the science of Epicutis, um, you know, it's very, very clear why they are a science of skin brand for us.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: You know, they represent everything we believe a good skincare brand should have.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: They have the right amount of products, they have um, you know, the moisturizer, the serum, the cleanser, the exfoliator, and every single product works in synergy with itself.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: So with each other.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: So what happens is that they have created a lineup that allows you to exfoliate your skin properly, cleanse your skin properly, then apply a very um, you know, humectant-rich serum on top, which is going to not only help um, you know, support your barrier, protect your barrier, but also nourish it.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a lipid-rich serum.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: And as you guys know, our barrier is made up of lipids, you know, that's what we have in there.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: So the serum is uh phenomenal.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: And on top of it, they have their moisturizers, which I absolutely love.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: They also have post-procedure masks, which are wonderful.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: The whole line is made to be very, very supportive of your overall skin health.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: And that again, once again, it's the general theme here this year of all of the um brands that you will see.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: They are supportive brands when it comes to your skin.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: They're going to help your skin thrive the way it is.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: And if it's dealing with any sort of, you know, inflammatory processes like acne or rosacea or, you know, like I said, eczema or whatever that might that may be for you, there's something here for you as well, you know, because the whole idea with skin and skin pathologies is that we're starting to realize as a scientific community is that there's a lot of inflammation.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: And to combat that inflammation, we have to create balance.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: And to create balance, we need products that are truly efficacious.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: They're you know, they're rooted in science, and Epicutus is no exception to that rule.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: They are really truly just a remarkable, remarkable brand.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: And I know that if you guys invest in them and invest in the routine and really follow it, you're gonna see differences, you know.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: And I've seen that happen with many people who have reached out to us.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Many of you out there who are tuning in, you've reached out to us, um, you know, telling us that you love the brand, that you've bought the brand, that you have really enjoyed it.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: And so when we were sitting down as a committee, we kept all of those that feedback, you know, in mind when we were making this this decision.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: And, you know, looking at their chemistry and looking at just the result-driven approach, I mean, it was a no-brainer to include Epicutus in the awards this year.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Next up is Tried and True Dr.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Dennis Gross.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Now, I cannot rave enough about Dr.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Dennis Gross.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Um, not only the brand, but the the you know, the brilliant mind uh Dr.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Gross behind the brand.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, everything about this brand, you guys, is something I love.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: You know, when it comes to their obviously their skincare products, all the way to their tools, such as their wonderful LED mask, which is my only LED mask that is my go-to, and will also be be in our top picks this year.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Um, every single product is designed to work.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: That's really the best way I can say it.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: I don't think I need to rant too much about them because honestly, they the products speak for themselves.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I think they all do for all the brands here, but with Dr.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Dennis Gross, I know most of you have tried the brand.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: And if you haven't, really a great place to start is their everyday peels.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Den Dr.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Gross invented the everyday peel wipe.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: You know, that product took the industry by storm.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's a Hallmark product.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: There have been brands that have come afterwards that have copied the concept, they've you know, they've really hyped up their uh initiatives to try to create something that he created and that is similar, and it just never is the same.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I keep coming back over and over again to the same peels because they work every time.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: You know, I use the ultra strength peel, they have different variations of that peel.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: You guys should definitely check that product out.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: If there's anything you check out from the brand, it's that product, personally speaking.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Um, I absolutely love it.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Also, another thing I really love is their retinal products, they have a wonderful range.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: And if you're like me, you're very sensitive to retinal products.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: It's something that you know you have to be very careful about.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: I personally have to be very careful about.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: So when we sat down as a committee to vote on this brand, we were looking at a lot of different things.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: We were looking at obviously barrier support, which there is plenty of products in the range that will help your barrier, that will sustain your barrier and help it thrive.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: But there are a lot of products here that will also combat specific concerns very, very closely and very directly.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Now, the retinol line is a line that I absolutely love.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: There's an eye cream in there, or an eye serum, I should say, and it's one of my favorite eye serums of all time.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, I am not an eye cream kind of gal, I don't really believe in them.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of times it's a lot of hype more than anything, but this is a product, guys, that actually works.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: And so to say that and to be able to say that about something as difficult as an eye serum, I mean, that should tell you by itself how amazing they are.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: So I'm just trying to provide you little examples, you know what I mean?
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: I obviously can't walk you through the whole process that the committee um took when we were evaluating, but you know, one of the things that we looked for were hard products, you know what I mean?
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: That like hard concepts to master.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: And one of the hardest concepts to master right now in the skincare industry are good eye serums.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: There's not a lot out there, and you know, the brands that are making them, you know, they'll they'll target a few concerns, like for example, hydration, puffiness, whatnot.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: But to really get in there and help with things like crow's feet, help with things like you know, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, that's a really, really hard um job and is a really hard goal to achieve.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: And Dr.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Dennis Gross is doing it.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: They are doing it.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: That serum that I told you guys about, it will also be available in our top picks, so make sure you check our top picks and look for it for the exact name.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: But I'm telling you, there is something here for everybody.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: This line is tried, true, and tested.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, my family even uses this line.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: My my younger brother, who is an MD PhD candidate, you know, huge shout out to him.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: He loves this line.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: This is his go-to.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I really, really encourage you guys check out Dr.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Dennis Gross if you have not already, and you know, really kind of dive in and find what works for you.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: They have, like I said, the gentlest of the gentle uh, you know, products, and they also have the more, you know, just heavier stuff, which is really designed to help those signs of aging.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Now, the next one up is strivein.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Strivectin is very similar to PCA and Dr.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Dennis Gross in that they have been around for a very long time.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: They were the first ever um brand that I ever bought a retinol from, and I to this day still use their retinol products.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love them because they have such a wonderful range of products that are designed for literally everybody.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: I am especially obsessed with their body care line.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: They have wonderful moisturizers for the body.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: They've been doing this before the industry ever hopped on this bandwagon, and I feel like they've always been that leader, you know, they've always had this um part of them that's this leading component where they're doing things that nobody else is doing.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: They're they're pushing the limits, they're not scared to push those limits and do it right, you know.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: And so when we sat down and talked about strivectin, one of the biggest things that came up were wow, they've been around for so long.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And you know, every time we use them, every time we've tried them, whether it's been gifted or not gifted.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think everybody on the committee, if I recall correctly, had tried strivectin at some point in their skincare journey.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: And this was long before skincare anarchy even existed.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: And we all agreed that it this is a brand that has been around and just continues to marvel us, you know, it continues to perform, it is created for every single type of consumer out there.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: You can find something in their range that is going to be so perfect for you if you just do the homework and look for what your your skin needs and what your skin concerns are, you'll find something there.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Now, for all the people out there right now that are looking for great body care products that are gonna combat the signs of aging, I cannot tell you enough how much I love their wrinkle defense creams.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: I love, love, love their body moisturizers.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: I'm a huge fan.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: They have a wonderful body exfoliator as well.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Um, it's it's just there's so many products, you know.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: I couldn't even, I don't think one episode would be enough for me to even uh, you know, really express just my true love for this brand.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: So check out Strivectum.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: For sure, this is a brand that is genuinely made for everybody, and it was a no-brainer awarding them this award this year.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: The next one up is the Ordinary.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: And so The Ordinary, like all of the brands I've talked about so far, is a brand that is made to serve the community of skincare consumers out there that are looking for efficacious products, but they don't want to break the bank.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: As we all know, the Ordinary has delivered time and time again, as have all Desium brands.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean, last year we had NEOD on the list for this award, and NEOD is the crown jewel of Desium, and you know, rightfully so, because their formulas are extremely sophisticated.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: Well, the ordinary is not far behind, or really behind at all, because as you guys know, I think everyone out there can relate.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: We've all tried something from the ordinary.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: If anything, you've tried their hyaluronic serum.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: You know, it might be the only hyaluronic in your routine.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: You know, a lot of times we hear that the buffet serum, which is now their, you know, it's their hyaluronic um serum mixed with other components in it, it's one of the best products out there.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: And it's something that's a staple in so many people's routines.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: So when we were looking at the ordinary, we were looking at a brand that we wanted to showcase because of this the significantly, you know, sophisticated chemistry behind it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: You know, I've had the honor of hosting Pridvi Kaka on our show twice now.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Um, the first time it was under the umbrella of NIOD and to talk about NIOD and the, you know, the science behind that um component of the Desium, but the second time around it was to talk about the six new launches by the ordinary under um what they are calling OLABs, which is really um an initiative that is geared towards delivering directly to the consumers, directly to the needs and to the requests of the consumers.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: And so when I spoke to him the second time around, they really walked me through the science of why they created their wonderful six new products that have just launched.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Um, if you haven't checked out that episode, I really highly recommend it because um you're really gonna see the science and you're gonna understand exactly why we chose them for our Science of Skin awards.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, the ordinary to me as a consumer represents the accessibility of good science.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: That's what they represent to me.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Um and I don't say that lightly.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: You know, we we all know that a lot of money goes into making skincare products.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: A lot of money goes into making good skincare products.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: And the ordinary has just cracked that code.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: And there is no other brand like them out there.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: You know, when it comes to serums, when it comes to cleansers, moisturizers, what you name it, they do it.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: You know, they even have a award like appeal that I know all of us know about, their wonderful vampire facial.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: It's you know, it's a tried and true.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, if you've ever tried it, you know the results are real and they last.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: So there are just these countless amounts of products in their range that I can recommend to, I mean, pretty much everybody, and I have, you know, countless times.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Even like I said, even before Skincare Anarchy started, the Ordinary was one of the first ever brands that I just started raving about on my personal page.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: And so when the committee sat down to, you know, to really go through and um figure out, you know, do they, you know, do we even need to give them award?
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Because I think that everyone knows at this point how amazing they are.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: We were like, yes, we have to, you know, it's our our duty and it would be due diligence to highlight them as much as possible because they're giving, you know, products, uh product options to people who don't want to break the bank, but they don't want to compromise on efficacy, they don't want to compromise on good chemistry and good science.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: So, yes, the ordinary was a no-brainer, and if you haven't already checked out their products, I mean, I don't know what you're waiting for.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: You know, you're gonna find something on there, not just one thing, but multiple things on their um in their lineup that's gonna work for you.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: So, you know, huge shout out to the ordinary, huge shout out to Neod, huge shout out to Pudvikaka.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for everything you guys do and for all the you know accessibility that you provide in this industry.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: So that was a no-brainer.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Now, the next one is another no-brainer, uh, one one skin.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: One on one skin is made by the brilliant Dr.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Giannis Alexandridis.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: He is, I think, um, to me, I consider him a mentor because I learn from him so much every time I watch his videos, every time I look at his products, I try his products, they are just one of a kind, you guys.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, at the end of the day, the essence of these awards is to highlight brands that are doing it in a way that nobody else is.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: And one-on-one skin is definitely one of those brands.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: You know, everything created by Dr.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Giannis is and his wife, his wonderful wife, Eva, is something to really marvel, you know, to look at with you know a lot of um curiosity because the exceptional science and the precise science that is behind this brand is just it's flabbergasting because you know, when we talk about skincare, we rarely mix the realms of you know surgery and skincare, right?
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: We don't usually hear about that.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: But one-on-one skin's motto is actually surgically precise skincare, and there's a reason for that.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Giannis's products are designed to be efficacious for various skin types and various um, you know, episodes and and I guess you can call it eras that your skin goes through.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: So now there's products in the range that are for post-procedure skincare, uh, skin concerns, which we know is an up-and-coming uh niche in the skincare industry, is post-procedure skincare.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Now they have the best products out there for that.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Um, it's also for people who want results that you would get from, like, for example, an expert uh facial at home.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: So one of my favorite products and one that I've uh showcased recently on our Instagram uh stories is their wonderful uh Clarity product, which is an exfoliating uh cleanser.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: And I use this product about two times a week, and I absolutely love it because it's one of the only exfoliators that I can use uh weekly that's not going to irritate my skin but still show me wonderful results.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: So um, you know, they're just a huge winner in my book.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: And I think the whole committee agreed when we sat down and looked at the ingredients, when we looked at Dr.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Giannis's background, um, and the you know, the real principles on which this brand is founded, which is truly providing options for at-home care that you would only find at the most prestigious spas um, you know, worldwide.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: So 101 Skin is just one of those brands, you guys, that you know, once you dive in, once you try their products and you find the right routine for you, you're never gonna look back.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: You're never going to wonder why I wasn't, you know, you're never gonna wonder what should I, you know, exchange out for this product, that kind of thing.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: It's just it becomes a part of your routine.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: And my some of my favorite products, and you guys know I love a good sheet mask.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's one of my favorite products or uh, you know, category of products in skincare.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: And my absolute favorite sheet masks are by one-on-one skin.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: And so this is where I give a huge shout out to Eva because Eva, you have done it.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: She is really truly one of the masterminds behind all of their wonderful masks.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: Um, they have these beautiful biocellulous, uh, bell biocellulous sheet masks that are so wonderful for um whether you're trying to tighten your skin, brighten your skin, um, help relieve puffiness, help relieve signs of just stress and you know, um, I I guess you you could say like fluid retention or whatever you want to call it, just stress, right?
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Overall, they their sheet masks target all of those concerns and they work every single time.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: The same can be said about their eye patches.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: Their eye patches are the only eye patches I use.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Um, so the under-eye patches um are under the black diamond range, and they are absolutely phenomenal.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: They will leave your under-eyes so smooth, so ready for whether whatever it may be, whether that's makeup, whether that's you know, more skincare, whatever you do, you know, in your routine, they just work.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: They work really well.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: And like I said earlier, the under-eye area is the one of the hardest areas to target in skincare, with skincare, I should say.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: And you know, these eye patches, for me, they've been a miracle.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: They work every time.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: Um, they also have another um set of them, which is designed more for like depuffing the under-eye area, helping with that, you know, those kind of uh concerns.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: But I really, really urge you guys check out the brand in its entirety and find what's right for you and just go with that.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: I know they're a little pricey as some of these brands are in the lineup, but every single one of them has been fully vetted, and really we really thought about as a committee what is the value versus the price.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: And you know, that's something I think consumers need to start thinking on is this value versus price thing.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Because, yes, at first glance, products can seem very pricey, you know, from a lot of different brands, you know.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: But you have to really figure out as a consumer what are my needs and how far am I willing to go to fix those needs?
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Do I want to spend the same amount of money on 15 different products that don't work, or do I want to say spend the same amount of money on one product that works every single time?
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: That's the question you have to ask yourself, and that's a component that was considered when we were making these, you know, these finalists for these awards.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: We were coming up with the finalists because um, you know, what this conversation came up a lot.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: It was a very, very heavy conversation, actually, you know, between all of us.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: And we were discussing how, you know, there are consumers out there that um they'll make decisions based on price points.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: And we all agreed as scientists that it just doesn't make any sense because the products we're we're recommending here and the and the brands we're showcasing are, you know, well not only well worth the price, but they pay for themselves at the end of the day.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, some of these brands are providing clinical results, like one-on-one skin is providing you surgically precise results that you would probably get from something like a surgical procedure that was something smaller, you know, like um not even surgical, but like an aesthetic procedure, like you know, getting microneedling or whatever, you know, because they have products that are designed to mimic these kinds of procedures that are designed to help you get the same or you know, very close to the same results.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: And so you really actually are saving money at the end of the day, if you really think about it and if you do your homework.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: So I really urge you check out the brand, check out all of these brands, you know, that I'm mentioning, because they have truly been vetted, you know, not only on the realm of science and and skin health, but also in the realm of accessibility, efficacy, you know, um, are they worth it?
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: That kind of thing.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I'm gonna stop ranting there, but definitely, definitely worth every penny with one-on-one skin.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Now, on to the next one.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: This is Novos.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Novos is a new brand on my radar.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: It is the first brand that we've awarded that is a supplement brand.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Um, but the reason we did this is because they are a leader in longevity science.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: Now, as many of you know, the word anti-aging is kind of out the window at this point in the industry.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: We all kind of shy away from it, um, including, I know a lot of our PR executives out there can agree.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: It's not really a term we're leaning towards anymore, you know, as a community.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: And I wholeheartedly agree with it because anti-aging is just a it's an oxymoronic statement, you know, we're never gonna stop aging.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: However, we can definitely prolong our, you know, our its lifespan, and we can definitely help aid in a more healthier life lifespan, right?
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: And that's what Novo stands for.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: They are comprised of a board of leading longevity scientists that have come together to create this wonderful set of products that are there to not only help with making sure that you know what you're living right now and how your body is reacting right now to just overall signs and you know things that contribute to aging well, but they're making sure that in the long run your body is set up to combat these issues in a better way on a on a level of epigenetics, and that's where they're really, really novel and very unique to me because epigenetics is a concept that is just now coming out um as a word in the skincare industry, in the wellness industry, and it's a word that for us scientists we've seen for many, many years now.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: You know, epigenetics has been uh around for a long time, but uh you know, luckily for us, it's finally coming out into the mainstream, and people are finally getting a wind of it.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: And Novos is leading the way when it comes to creating this um, you know, overall effect of longevity from the inside out.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: So I really recommend them.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: I think you'll love the brand once you try it.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: Like I said, it's a supplement brand, so I highly suggest you guys get your hands on it, try it out for yourself, and see how you feel.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a great, great, great brand.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: I've been using it myself now for a few months, and I've really noticed a difference in things like energy level.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: I've noticed that uh the difference in my skin hydration overall, even on days where I do not use any skincare.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: And I'm talking, I usually give my skin a break, you know, from time to time for like a week straight with no skincare products.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: And even on those days, I notice the hydration level, the plumpness of my skin, the overall clarity of my skin, it's balanced.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: There's a balance there, and I can't help but wonder if it's because of Novos, because I do not skip this step in my routine no matter what.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Every single day I take their product and it works.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: So I really try I really recommend them.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: And if you guys don't believe me, check out their website and go and check out their board and just look at the amazing scientists that are behind the technology that Novos is putting out there.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Now, the next one up is Editrix.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Editrix is one of my favorite brands, and especially when it comes to the microbiome, because that's what they stand for.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: The microbiome is a very um, you know, it's a hazy area.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: It's a gray area for us, right?
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, we've all heard of the word, we've all heard of the brands that are talking about microbiome, this, that, you know, but how many of them actually have 20 plus years of research behind creating products that are specifically geared towards supporting your skin's microbiome?
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: I don't think a lot of them can say that.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: And, you know, lucky for us, editrix really can.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: You know, they they have the science to support why they created the range of products that they did.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: You know, um, the the bench research that has gone behind these products is extraordinary.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: You know, when I was first interviewing them, I remember having a wonderful conversation with their their co-founder and really talking about why she created this this line, you know, and why um, you know, the brand is now here because the idea was that there was all of this research going on, you know, on a university level, on an academia level, and they wanted to apply it to something that everyday people could utilize in their daily lives.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: And this is 20 plus years of research, you guys, from a leading microbiome expert in the world, you know.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: So I have it's a no-brainer, you know.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Again, like if you are somebody who really believes in the power of stabilizing your microbiome, your skin's microbiota, then you need to invest in lines that are created by microbiologists, that are created by people who actually know the science of microbiology.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: And this is definitely one of them.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, other than this, I mean, the only other brand I can think of is our past winner from last year, which was Codex and now known as Codex Labs, because they are also very, very heavily invested into the microbiome.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: So I really urge you guys check out Editrix.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, if you are somebody who really falls for the microbiome buzzwords out there and you really are curious about this niche of skincare, there then you don't have to look any further.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: You know, Editrix will definitely shock you in the r in terms of results, in terms of the science, the efficacy, the trials that they've conducted.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Um, you'll see all of the data right there to support all of their claims.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: And so this was, you know, a huge winner for us across the board as a committee, and we really, really recommend it to everybody out there.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: Now the last brand on the list, and it's definitely becoming one of my favorite brands, is Dela V Sciences, which is founded by the brilliant David Sinclair and the brilliant Dr.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Kyle Landry.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Um, both of these individuals are truly remarkable scientists.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: They have done so much work, you know, when it comes to this creating their serum, creating their um eye product, their eye cream.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: And the most fascinating part is that the brand was tested and created on the International Space Station.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: So what that what does that tell us?
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: So the International Space Station by itself, you know, that's a huge like whoa, right?
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: But the importance of that is when you go into space, the amount of radiation that you're exposed to is exponentially higher than anything you'll ever experience on Earth, right?
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: So keeping that in mind, they were creating a product that was withstanding um, you know, these types of radiation exposures.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: They were creating a product that was designed to be used, um, you know, it it's it's basically designed to be used for protecting your skin.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: That's the essence of Dela V Science's serum.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: The serum is designed to protect your skin, to help combat things like free radicals, help combat things like UV exposure.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: You know, they have a lot of clinical data behind um, you know, everything that they've tested and tried and you know worked with.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: And this serum, I'm telling you guys, like once you start using it, you will definitely notice immediately that there is a change in your skin.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: Your ch your skin just feels stronger, you know, for lack of a better term.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm not trying to dumb it down at all, but I think the best way that I could um advise you guys to learn about the brand without me, you know, dumbing anything down or botching anything up is to go listen to the interview with Dr.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: Kyle Landry.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: He explains things so beautifully.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: And um the way that you know we analyzed them as a brand was that we looked at the data.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: We looked at the premise of why they created what they created and why it was tested on the International Space Station.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, that was the bottom line was why would a brand try to do that?
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: Like, why would they even attempt to do that?
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: And when we looked at the science and we looked at the real uh reasoning behind it, it was a no-brainer because the amount of innovation that is going to come from what they're doing right now is like exponential.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: I could think of like about 15 different uh ways to apply their technology, and that's another thing that was so huge to us because with brands, oftentimes we look at them at face value, we look at them for what is there right now, right?
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: But we don't look at their potential, we don't look at what they're contributing to the realm of dermal science.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: And Dela V Sciences to me is contributing like literally a you know just unfathomable amount of you know uh ideas, discoveries, or just applications rather to this entire industry.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: You could apply this technology to so many different types of products, whether that's SPF, which is something I talked to Dr.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: Landry about on the episode, or serums, which they already have, or for example, moisturizers, you know, cleansers, you name it, you can apply this to everything.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: And the reason is because of the proprietary complex and the proprietary extract that they have um, you know, kind of secured for themselves, and this is able to withstand so much stress that it is something that can absolutely protect your skin um to the highest order.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: So Dela V Sciences was also a no-brainer for us because again, the you know, real premise behind the award winners and the brands that we've selected for this year is skin protection, skin support, barrier support, and that is what they represent, every single one of these brands.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: So I hope this helped you guys a little bit.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: This was very impromptu on my end.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: I did not script any of this.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: This is from the heart, from the mind, and I really, really hope that it helps clarify to you where I'm trying to go with this award.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, specifically, it will be an annual award for many years to come, and I can't wait to show you guys, you know, the the brands to come in the future.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: But for now, I urge every single listener out there, check out every single one of these brands and dive into them for yourself.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: Look at their data, and that's another thing I want to say is that every single one of them, if you go to their websites, there is nothing that they have to hide.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: And that's one of the biggest things I love about them because their information and their knowledge and their the science is all right there, accessible for all of you to look at, to analyze for yourselves, and to make your own decisions.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: And that to me is the hallmark of a science-backed brand.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: They're not gonna hide anything from you, they're not gonna put anything in the shadows, they're gonna put it out there for you to see, for you to understand, for you to make your own decisions.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: And that's why another reason I love every single one of these 10 brands and everything that they stand for.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: So I hope this helped you guys understand science of skin.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: I hope this helped you make your decisions about which brands you want to try out of all 10 of them.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: And I really hope that you guys stay tuned for top picks which will be coming up.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: We will be releasing those decks which are organized by you know the exact type of product you're dealing with, whether you know it's a serum or whatever, it's all organized for you.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be publishing them.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: That's why we've kind of halted publishing anything else for now.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: We have a few interviews backed up that need to be published, but we want to get this out to you first, okay?
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Right before you're getting ready to shop for the holidays.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: We want to get this out to you.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: So check everything out, you guys.
