- 0:04Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:08Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Barth.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Blazarre and Lazarre. So everybody nailed it. Joined as always,
- 0:14Speaker 2: buy our Bark Gatherer Gap.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex bars You know me, Alex, Yeah, you.
- 0:24Speaker 2: The hardest thing for me to do with the draft
- 0:26Speaker 2: Aace is to watch running backs. I always wait until
- 0:30Speaker 2: like April so to get to the running backs because
- 0:32Speaker 2: I I hate watching running backs. I just don't know why.
- 0:36Speaker 2: It just doesn't move anything like watching the line. It's similar.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It's just you know what it is is like running
- 0:42Speaker 2: backs in college, especially the backs that come from the
- 0:45Speaker 2: big schools. They have so much room to do things
- 0:48Speaker 2: that I'm just like, I don't think that this any
- 0:51Speaker 2: of this translates. That is such a topical opening. That
- 0:59Speaker 2: is a perfect timing because I had just texted Alex
- 1:03Speaker 2: Ace this morning that today is the day that I
- 1:06Speaker 2: ripped the band aid off and start watching some of
- 1:08Speaker 2: these god forsaken running backs. And that's exactly what I
- 1:13Speaker 2: was doing before the show. And I got to tell
- 1:15Speaker 2: you it was as difficult as I thought it was
- 1:19Speaker 2: gonna be. Like it's like pulling teeth for me, and
- 1:22Speaker 2: I sent you a screenshot of me watching. I was
- 1:26Speaker 2: at Mike Washington from Arkansas. It's the first running back
- 1:29Speaker 2: that I decided to check off the list, and he's
- 1:31Speaker 2: just got this tractor trailer sized hole to run through
- 1:35Speaker 2: that me or Alex could have ran through this whole ace.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And I was like, this is not how this is
- 1:42Speaker 2: never gonna happen in the NFL.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Have a really, really good point, and that's why I
- 1:46Speaker 3: really liked that take because it never translates. No star
- 1:49Speaker 3: prospect wide receiver does the exact thing he did in
- 1:51Speaker 3: college on the field in the big leagues.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like, here's all this room is in
- 1:56Speaker 2: front of him, Like he runs fast, you know, big
- 1:59Speaker 2: dude runs fast. I get it, But it was just
- 2:01Speaker 2: an absolute crater sized hole right in front of his face,
- 2:05Speaker 2: and it's like, yeah, obviously he's gonna hit a big
- 2:07Speaker 2: run here. Honestly, I came away from that Arkansas tape
- 2:10Speaker 2: thinking that the guy in the backfield that mattered was
- 2:12Speaker 2: Taylor Green, the quarterback.
- 2:14Speaker 1: The quarterback obviously okay, but he was so you like
- 2:16Speaker 1: watching offensive linemen, weren't you interested as to why the
- 2:19Speaker 1: hole opened that wide.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I suppose game I forget to Texas A and M
- 2:23Speaker 2: A game.
- 2:24Speaker 1: They got a good front.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's why I picked that one because I was like, oh,
- 2:27Speaker 2: maybe this one will actually have some translation because there's
- 2:30Speaker 2: NFL players on that Texas A and M front. I
- 2:33Speaker 2: don't think I came away wowed by anything that that
- 2:37Speaker 2: the running backs did in that game, and I was
- 2:39Speaker 2: just like, oh God, here we go. The first one.
- 2:42Speaker 1: The first I would not and I texted you this,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I would not have had Mike Washington be the first
- 2:47Speaker 1: back you watch.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, I just was going by the consensus board. I'm
- 2:51Speaker 2: not gonna watch for one.
- 2:52Speaker 1: He's he's gonna go too high.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I'm not gonna watch love. There's no point in watching him.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I mean, obviously Mike Washington's not going to be a
- 2:59Speaker 1: top ten pick, but he's probably gonna go top sixty.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Okay, Well, they had him in for a thirty visit reportedly.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Oh okay, fair enough.
- 3:08Speaker 2: So I had him on my list. Here's my list.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I sent it to you.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Did you watch any others?
- 3:13Speaker 4: Uh?
- 3:13Speaker 2: No? Because I couldn't get through it. I was like,
- 3:15Speaker 2: oh my god.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Do your job?
- 3:16Speaker 2: Mike was job? What do you think I'm doing I'm trying.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 3:20Speaker 1: You said you couldn't get through it, like your job
- 3:22Speaker 1: is to get through it.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I know it's tough. I know, woe is me.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I'm like, I get that. This is ridiculous that I'm like, oh,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I gotta watch football today, Like, I know, it's stupid.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Poor Evan has to watch running backs all day.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I We'll get to recency buys later and I'll gush
- 3:37Speaker 2: a little bit more about Taylor Green. He was the
- 3:39Speaker 2: best player on the field. I don't know why we're
- 3:41Speaker 2: talking about the freaking running back. So Mike Washington, Yeah, Jonahlem.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Jonah Coleman, if he's like the ceiling for me of
- 3:48Speaker 1: them taking her running back, he's you'll have more foot
- 3:50Speaker 1: watching him.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Emmitt Johnson from Nebraska's on my list. Nick Singleton from
- 3:55Speaker 2: Penn State, Yeah, he's good. I like him. Clayborne from
- 3:58Speaker 2: Wake Forest.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I like him, and he's like a stylist. He could
- 4:01Speaker 1: be a Patriot. You need to watch him.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You actually on my Lin Allen, the other Penn State
- 4:05Speaker 2: running back.
- 4:06Speaker 1: They're kind of the same. The two Penn State guys
- 4:08Speaker 1: are kind of interchangeable.
- 4:09Speaker 2: The guy that everybody wants Adam Randall from Clemsons.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Are you gonna watch the receiver tape too, or just
- 4:14Speaker 1: the running back tape?
- 4:15Speaker 2: I'll watch the tape that's available, whatever he's got.
- 4:18Speaker 1: You usually don't always go back to like previous year,
- 4:21Speaker 1: probably not watch a little receiver tape. Maybe it's part
- 4:24Speaker 1: of the makeup of the prospect, uh, is it?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Kaylin Black? Kayl Black Indiana? And then the two guys
- 4:30Speaker 2: that you said I had to add to my list
- 4:32Speaker 2: Owens and read Desmond Reid and Kejon Owens.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah, those are later. But you want them to draft,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you want the u DFA. You don't want them to sign.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Somebody, so those would be like the UDF I mean, so,
- 4:43Speaker 5: my my goal every draft season is to at least
- 4:49Speaker 5: know who they picked through the fourth round.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Right, once we get into five, six, seven, I'll know
- 4:54Speaker 2: of the players hopefully, but like if I haven't done
- 4:57Speaker 2: like a multi tape d dive into the guy, I
- 5:01Speaker 2: give myself some grace on that. So I when it
- 5:04Speaker 2: comes to each positions, I always stop start with the
- 5:06Speaker 2: top one hundred guys, even though I know they're probably
- 5:09Speaker 2: not gonna draft a running back. No, you need that background, right,
- 5:11Speaker 2: And I also will do the same. I've been procrastinating
- 5:15Speaker 2: corners as well, because they just they have three really
- 5:18Speaker 2: good corners and they need corner depth. And I know,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but like, are they really getting to draft? Can put
- 5:23Speaker 2: a draft Colton Hood.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Right, I can put together a list of corners for you.
- 5:27Speaker 2: They're not gonna draft Colton Hood. They're not gonna draft
- 5:29Speaker 2: to Rail from Clemson. They're not gonna draft. I don't
- 5:33Speaker 2: think they're gonna draft like Ponds or you know, Chris
- 5:36Speaker 2: Johnson or any of those guys that are gonna be
- 5:39Speaker 2: you know, top fifty, top sixty five picks, Like I
- 5:41Speaker 2: don't think those guys are gonna be Patriots. Anyways, I digress.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Hello everybody, Hi, Evan Lazar, Alex Barth's behind the glasses
- 5:50Speaker 2: you can tell off and running here on catch twenty two.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Busy day today. We got some things to get to
- 5:57Speaker 2: from the owners meetings, the league's meetings, I should say
- 5:59Speaker 2: league meet like league meetings. Yes, it's not owners meetings anymore.
- 6:02Speaker 2: League meetings from Mike Rabel yesterday. Mostly I do want
- 6:08Speaker 2: to talk about some of the things. Are our takeaways
- 6:10Speaker 2: from that. I told you that we'll do a special
- 6:13Speaker 2: team's roster reset, So that's on the agenda as well,
- 6:16Speaker 2: Special Teams roster reset, and then we'll get into some
- 6:20Speaker 2: of the draft stuff like the recent Pro Day buzz,
- 6:23Speaker 2: recency bias, all that good stuff. The Pro Day workout
- 6:28Speaker 2: seen around Patriot Nation of Mike Rabel and Max ionich
- 6:33Speaker 2: Or at Arizona State. Before Mike Rabel trecked to Phoenix
- 6:37Speaker 2: for the league meetings, he stopped in Arizona State. Where's
- 6:40Speaker 2: at Tempe Arizona State? Yes, and uh and got to
- 6:44Speaker 2: look at Maxionachor hands on, look up close and personal.
- 6:48Speaker 2: So we'll get to all of that. Let's start with
- 6:50Speaker 2: the league meetings and what Mike Rabel had to say
- 6:52Speaker 2: at the League meetings. I wouldn't say that it wasn't
- 6:56Speaker 2: a totally different press conference than the one that he
- 6:59Speaker 2: gave at the was pretty similar to a lot of
- 7:02Speaker 2: the topics that he talked about at the Combine. I
- 7:05Speaker 2: think the biggest takeaway that I had, and I know
- 7:08Speaker 2: that there's a lot AJ Brown's kind of a headline.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Christian Gonzalez is a headline. Obviously, his whole answer about
- 7:15Speaker 2: competing for championships and all that stuff is a big headline.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I think as well, it just has a big picture
- 7:22Speaker 2: sort of thing. But I thought his answer he was
- 7:25Speaker 2: asked about year three growth for Drake May and what
- 7:29Speaker 2: that looks like to him with Drake May, and I
- 7:32Speaker 2: thought that that answer to me was the most interesting
- 7:35Speaker 2: one he gave. He said, you know, physically, this is
- 7:39Speaker 2: he's an elite quarterback, like we don't really have to
- 7:41Speaker 2: worry about physically with him anymore. But he said he
- 7:46Speaker 2: wants him to and this is a direct quote, control
- 7:49Speaker 2: the game at the line of scrimmage. And when I
- 7:51Speaker 2: heard that, Alex, I couldn't help but relate it directly
- 7:56Speaker 2: back to the Super Bowl and how Seattle, whether it
- 8:00Speaker 2: was through film study or just doing what they do
- 8:03Speaker 2: or whatever the case may be, they spammed those blitzes
- 8:07Speaker 2: against Drake May, especially the nickel or the slot blitzes
- 8:10Speaker 2: by Devin Witherspoon were particularly effective, but just their pressure
- 8:14Speaker 2: package in general took over that game. And my takeaway
- 8:18Speaker 2: from that was they feel like Drake May could be
- 8:22Speaker 2: better as a pre snap processor and getting all the
- 8:26Speaker 2: ducks in a row and the chess match before the
- 8:28Speaker 2: snap and all that good stuff, and that's where they're
- 8:32Speaker 2: at with him. It's not physical. We all know that
- 8:35Speaker 2: it's not even post snap really that they're concerned about.
- 8:39Speaker 2: It's setting mic points, it's moving protections, it's getting the
- 8:43Speaker 2: team out of bad plays and into good plays, the
- 8:47Speaker 2: mental side of the game and the mental chess match
- 8:49Speaker 2: before the snap. And I would just say, like my
- 8:51Speaker 2: take on that really quickly, that's a very difficult skill
- 8:57Speaker 2: to perfect as a young core back in this league.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And if that's his final hurdle to being a MVP
- 9:06Speaker 2: runner up to an MVP, I guess I don't know
- 9:08Speaker 2: how much high or you could possibly go, but a
- 9:10Speaker 2: little bit, then so be it. That's the final hurdle.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I do wonder if there's schematically and we can talk
- 9:18Speaker 2: about this a little bit more, is there a happy
- 9:20Speaker 2: medium of allowing him to make plays on his own
- 9:26Speaker 2: when he's under pressure versus doing the Tom Brady thing
- 9:31Speaker 2: of coming to the line of scrimmage and directing traffic,
- 9:34Speaker 2: because that was Brady's superpower. And the other guy I
- 9:37Speaker 2: brought up yesterday and we talked about this on Unfiltered,
- 9:39Speaker 2: was Peyton Manning. Like, those are the two guys that
- 9:41Speaker 2: I looked at and said, their superpower is their brain.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Not every great elite quarterback has that as their number
- 9:51Speaker 2: one trait. A lot of these quarterbacks have skill and
- 9:54Speaker 2: have raw talent and ability. So I wonder if there's
- 9:59Speaker 2: a maybe a a middle ground there of if this
- 10:03Speaker 2: slot comes on this blitz, we kind of trust you
- 10:06Speaker 2: to just figure something out, versus let's move the mic,
- 10:11Speaker 2: let's get him blocked, let's you know, design a route here,
- 10:14Speaker 2: let's do that, Let's do this, and we're traffic coppying
- 10:17Speaker 2: at the line of scrimmage. What was your takeaway from that?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I just it's the next logical iteration of this offense.
- 10:23Speaker 1: We know this is something that unlocks a lot in
- 10:26Speaker 1: the Josh McDaniels system, and I liked it in put
- 10:28Speaker 1: on his plate right away, but I think it was
- 10:31Speaker 1: this was a big talking point last year, right in
- 10:33Speaker 1: terms of getting Drake made the right offensive coordinator and
- 10:36Speaker 1: not putting too much on his plate. But you want
- 10:37Speaker 1: to build. You never want the offense to be stagnant. Yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you don't want to come back with the same thing
- 10:42Speaker 1: year after year off year, and you're gonna have new players,
- 10:44Speaker 1: so that facilitates some adjustments as you go and things
- 10:47Speaker 1: like that, But you want to build on what he's
- 10:50Speaker 1: doing and physically, I don't know, is it unfair to say,
- 10:53Speaker 1: like physically, I think he's kind of maxed out where
- 10:55Speaker 1: he's at. Like, what more were you asking him to
- 10:58Speaker 1: do physically at this point?
- 10:59Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean I so I thought it
- 11:01Speaker 2: was a little telling him because when we when we
- 11:03Speaker 2: talked to him for Patriots dot Com at the combine,
- 11:06Speaker 2: he mentioned the younger players on the rosterspecific specifically on
- 11:10Speaker 2: offense getting stronger.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So putting putting more muscle on.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But that's not like a that But his answer yesterday
- 11:16Speaker 2: kind of made me think, Okay, maybe he was just
- 11:18Speaker 2: talking about the young lineman like Campbell and Jared Wilson
- 11:21Speaker 2: and those guys you want to and Kyle Williams.
- 11:24Speaker 1: You know, if he could bulch up a little bit,
- 11:25Speaker 1: it's gonna help him take some hits. And yes, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 1: the offensive line needs to be better, but you're not
- 11:29Speaker 1: gonna go an entire season without getting hit. That's just
- 11:31Speaker 1: the reality of it at the quarterback position. So I
- 11:35Speaker 1: think like the mental side is where he has more
- 11:37Speaker 1: room for growth than the physical side, is probably a
- 11:39Speaker 1: better way to put it. So yeah, and then if
- 11:42Speaker 1: if they can unlock some of the pre snap stuff
- 11:44Speaker 1: on top of what he can do physically. Think of
- 11:45Speaker 1: all the things that Josh McDaniels can start putting in,
- 11:48Speaker 1: it can start involving. So I don't think and I
- 11:51Speaker 1: also I also don't think it's giving him the entire
- 11:54Speaker 1: Brady pre snap guy year one. It's something you're gonna
- 11:57Speaker 1: build to, but it is the next logical step from
- 12:00Speaker 1: for me, and I think it was always the next
- 12:02Speaker 1: logical step. It was just a matter of how quick
- 12:03Speaker 1: did he get there. Obviously, with the season he had,
- 12:05Speaker 1: maybe they come in thinking, Okay, this is the thing
- 12:07Speaker 1: we're going to work with him on year four or five,
- 12:10Speaker 1: year six, But after the year he had, you can
- 12:12Speaker 1: kind of move that timeline up a little bit.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think that there's it's pretty obvious just
- 12:18Speaker 2: talking to Rabel these couple of times that we've gotten
- 12:22Speaker 2: access to him this offseason and just sort of the
- 12:25Speaker 2: topic of Drake May it seems pretty obvious to me
- 12:29Speaker 2: that they felt like year one, last year of Josh
- 12:33Speaker 2: mcdaniels's offense, they did not have the ability to fully
- 12:37Speaker 2: unlock the whole Josh McDaniel's playbook. And is that concepts
- 12:43Speaker 2: is that this kind of stuff before the line of scrimmage.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Rows are kind of two different things. Maybe it's a
- 12:48Speaker 2: combination of both, but it just feels like they almost
- 12:52Speaker 2: want to push him even harder to now go from
- 12:56Speaker 2: bachelor degree in Josh mcdaniels's offense to PhD.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Is that what they should be doing?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Absolutely, you know, I don't want to get complacent. Yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I have no problem with it.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. I think it is interesting though, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 2: there's and then we can move on there. There's a
- 13:11Speaker 2: million ways to kind of solve problems at the line
- 13:15Speaker 2: of scrimmage, and every quarterback sort of has a checklist
- 13:18Speaker 2: of you know, these are the four or five things
- 13:20Speaker 2: pre snap that they look for. Whether it's safety alignment corners,
- 13:25Speaker 2: you know, body positioning of corners. Are they squared up
- 13:28Speaker 2: on the line of scrimmage, or they open tip towards
- 13:31Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage, which would usually mean some sort
- 13:33Speaker 2: of off or zone coverage versus squared up as usually
- 13:36Speaker 2: some sort of press or soft press or man you know,
- 13:39Speaker 2: so they lead, you know, body lean or just like
- 13:42Speaker 2: the language of the body is important. They also look
- 13:46Speaker 2: at the front, you know, is it a three down front,
- 13:48Speaker 2: four down front, five down front. They have different culls
- 13:52Speaker 2: of like how to get two different things in terms
- 13:54Speaker 2: of protections. That way, all that kind of stuff is
- 13:57Speaker 2: like pre snap. They literally call it like a check
- 14:00Speaker 2: and it's just one, two, three, four, five all the
- 14:02Speaker 2: way through down the checklist. And so there's that element
- 14:06Speaker 2: of it. Then there's these other offenses. And I know
- 14:10Speaker 2: that these offenses tend to bug you. My guy's offense
- 14:14Speaker 2: is like the Kyle Shanahans of the world. A lot
- 14:17Speaker 2: of those offenses react post snap to problems. Instead of
- 14:22Speaker 2: fixing problems pre snap, their job is to react to
- 14:25Speaker 2: it post snap. So within every concept, there's what we
- 14:29Speaker 2: call a hot route within every concept, And if the
- 14:34Speaker 2: ball is snapped and brock Perty's standing there and the
- 14:38Speaker 2: nickel blitzes, and he knows he's three over four on
- 14:40Speaker 2: that side of the nickel blitzer, so there's too many
- 14:42Speaker 2: guys coming from that side, he's just immediately getting the
- 14:46Speaker 2: ball out to a hot route. Now there's pros and
- 14:48Speaker 2: cons to doing it each way. The pro to doing
- 14:51Speaker 2: it Kyle Shanahan's way or the West Coast Trees way
- 14:55Speaker 2: is that not a lot of quarterbacks can do the
- 14:58Speaker 2: Brady thing of sniffing out Blitzer before they happen, so
- 15:01Speaker 2: it simplifies it for the quarterback. The con of course,
- 15:05Speaker 2: is that these defenses are smart and like we saw
- 15:08Speaker 2: a couple of years ago in the Super Bowl against
- 15:10Speaker 2: Steve Spagnolo, Steve Spagnolo knows how they handle pressure. He
- 15:14Speaker 2: knows that their answers are post snap hot routes to pressure,
- 15:18Speaker 2: so he just like had answers for it right, he
- 15:20Speaker 2: would bring pressure and then they would be dropping guys
- 15:23Speaker 2: into the passing lanes and there was no place to
- 15:25Speaker 2: go with the football and brock Purty was kind of
- 15:28Speaker 2: caught with his pants down. So there's different ways to
- 15:31Speaker 2: kind of go about it. I think that the Seattle
- 15:34Speaker 2: defense gave both ways problems last year during the playoffs.
- 15:39Speaker 2: In the playoffs, they destroyed the forty nine ers, They
- 15:43Speaker 2: basically shut them out, and I think it was a
- 15:45Speaker 2: lot of the same kind of stuff, but just one
- 15:47Speaker 2: for different reasons. And then against the Patriots they kind
- 15:51Speaker 2: of broke the Patriots rules pre snap and were able
- 15:54Speaker 2: to kind of win the chess match. I know that
- 15:57Speaker 2: they're going to continue to stick with the Ash McDaniel's
- 16:00Speaker 2: way of doing things of the quarterback having the controls
- 16:03Speaker 2: and steering the offense and all that kind of stuff.
- 16:05Speaker 2: So you're right, you know, it's just this is you
- 16:07Speaker 2: push Drake May. It's on him to get better at it,
- 16:10Speaker 2: and hopefully he will. The other big headline, I don't
- 16:14Speaker 2: really don't want to talk about AJ Brown, so I'm
- 16:16Speaker 2: just gonna keep pushing that down the list. The other
- 16:18Speaker 2: big headline was, you know, the Christian Gonzales stuff, and
- 16:22Speaker 2: I thought that this was he was pretty he pounded
- 16:28Speaker 2: the table pretty good for Gonzo at the combine. But
- 16:31Speaker 2: he said that we want to be a team that's
- 16:34Speaker 2: about drafting and developing guys and then identifying the guys
- 16:37Speaker 2: we drafted have earned contract extensions, and Christian Gonzalez is
- 16:41Speaker 2: one of those guys. So today that was Rabel rubber stamping.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I want to give this guy an extension period. I
- 16:50Speaker 2: don't know if he's come out as aggressively before with
- 16:55Speaker 2: saying this is what he wants to do with this player,
- 16:58Speaker 2: which is to extend guns. Robert Kraft gave an answer
- 17:03Speaker 2: about Christian Zalez as well about the timing of the
- 17:06Speaker 2: contract that I thought was what we all sort of
- 17:09Speaker 2: feel is the general consensus which is earlier the better.
- 17:13Speaker 2: But what were your thoughts on just all the Gonzales
- 17:15Speaker 2: stuff that you didn't mention?
- 17:17Speaker 1: Elliot wolf in there and he was on Kay Adams
- 17:19Speaker 1: show and talked about Gonzales, and that was actually of
- 17:22Speaker 1: the three the most interesting to me. Obviously, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 1: the robber Craft stuff about the timeline I think is relevant,
- 17:28Speaker 1: but I don't know that that's I don't know. Didn't
- 17:30Speaker 1: we kind of already know that it's better off for
- 17:32Speaker 1: the team to get it done early, especially with Devin
- 17:34Speaker 1: Witherspoon up for an extension, so it's confirmation they feel
- 17:37Speaker 1: that way.
- 17:37Speaker 2: But that makes sense.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Elliott wolf In talking to Kay Adams mentioned quite a
- 17:43Speaker 1: bit kind of got into as much as you can
- 17:45Speaker 1: really get into something in that format, Christian Zalez's leadership
- 17:49Speaker 1: ability and how they viewed as a leader. And if
- 17:52Speaker 1: you're going to give somebody that kind of contract, you
- 17:54Speaker 1: want them to be a flag bearer for your program.
- 17:56Speaker 1: It's more than just about what the god does on
- 17:58Speaker 1: the field. Obviously Christians checked that box. But and maybe
- 18:03Speaker 1: this is what you know why Rabel's so confident in
- 18:05Speaker 1: it too. We haven't hurt a lot one way or
- 18:07Speaker 1: the other. I'm not say he's a bad leader. We
- 18:09Speaker 1: haven't heard a lot about Christian Gonzalez as a leader,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and he's been one of the younger guys on the team,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and that kind of makes sense. He's a quiet guy,
- 18:16Speaker 1: and Wolf talked about that you can be a quiet
- 18:18Speaker 1: guy and still be a leader. They have vocal leaders
- 18:20Speaker 1: on that defense, whether it be Milton Williams, Marcus Jones,
- 18:23Speaker 1: who's in that room, was a captain last year. But
- 18:26Speaker 1: I go back to Steph Gilmore Stefan Gilmour was undoubtedly
- 18:29Speaker 1: a leader on that team. The way he carried himself,
- 18:31Speaker 1: the way he played, the way he practiced, the way
- 18:33Speaker 1: he studied. Like you heard, and there was a young
- 18:35Speaker 1: cornerback room around him. You heard players talk about how
- 18:38Speaker 1: they gravitated towards that. Gonzales is not going to if
- 18:42Speaker 1: he's still a young guy right now, it's not for long.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And that's not to just say, oh, he's getting older.
- 18:46Speaker 1: But Carlton Davis is entering the last year of guaranteed
- 18:50Speaker 1: money on his contract. You pey, Gonzalez, are they going
- 18:52Speaker 1: to double back and pay Davis who's going to be
- 18:54Speaker 1: in his thirties the second time or are they going
- 18:56Speaker 1: to try to get younger there somebody on a rookie contract.
- 18:58Speaker 1: There's not much depth, so that's probably going to get overturned.
- 19:02Speaker 1: He's going to be along with Marcus Jones, the veteran
- 19:04Speaker 1: in that room, and if you're gonna give him that contract,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you hope he's a guy that the young guys in
- 19:09Speaker 1: that room look up to, gravitate towards it.
- 19:10Speaker 2: He can lead.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Them, and it sounds like they feel that way. And
- 19:14Speaker 1: rabel had talk was if rabeler Gonzalez who said leading
- 19:17Speaker 1: up to the Super Bowl that Gonzalez wanted to be
- 19:18Speaker 1: a captain.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Is actually after the Super Bowl that he mentioned it
- 19:23Speaker 2: at the combine.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I think so clearly this is something Gonzalez wants and
- 19:27Speaker 1: I think that's important in terms of getting that contract.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I don't think if they didn't view him as a leader,
- 19:32Speaker 1: they outright wouldn't pay him. But that can be one
- 19:35Speaker 1: of those things that we've seen it with other teams
- 19:37Speaker 1: that you give a guy the contract and he's a
- 19:41Speaker 1: good player, but he's maybe not representative of everything you
- 19:44Speaker 1: want the program to be that comes with that. So
- 19:47Speaker 1: and as they're negotiating, like maybe that's not a car.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm a little surprise that's a card Elliot Wolf showed,
- 19:53Speaker 1: so he clearly feels strongly about it. So that just
- 19:55Speaker 1: stood out to me because we hadn't really heard that
- 19:58Speaker 1: talked about much, and so it's like, Okay, they do
- 20:01Speaker 1: feel this way about him. That's good, that's encouraging.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you your point about leadership. We've talked
- 20:09Speaker 2: about this a little bit on this show, definitely talked
- 20:11Speaker 2: about it on PU this offseason, for better or worse,
- 20:15Speaker 2: they've made some decisions on the roster that has let
- 20:18Speaker 2: go of some really big leaders on this team last year,
- 20:22Speaker 2: obviously the biggest one being Stefan Diggs, who was kind
- 20:25Speaker 2: of the heartbeat of this team in a lot of
- 20:28Speaker 2: ways last year. And I would also say maybe a
- 20:32Speaker 2: little bit lesser so than Stefan Diggs, but like Garrett
- 20:34Speaker 2: Bradbury was kind of a glue guy in that offensive
- 20:37Speaker 2: line room. They're doing it to get younger and hopefully
- 20:40Speaker 2: get more upside, I would say at those respective spots.
- 20:44Speaker 2: And I'm not saying from a football standpoint that it
- 20:46Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense, but from a leadership standpoint, isn't
- 20:50Speaker 2: the hope that Drake may will Campbell, Christian Gonzalez, like,
- 20:55Speaker 2: those guys are now your two year, three year four
- 20:58Speaker 2: in the league as your best players on the team.
- 21:02Speaker 2: It's always easier when your best players are your leaders.
- 21:04Speaker 2: This goes back to Brady and Brady being, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 2: the guy that Bill could criticize in front of the
- 21:11Speaker 2: whole team and kind of set a tone, right. I
- 21:13Speaker 2: think Rabel this story that was a buyer who told
- 21:16Speaker 2: the story about Taylor Luwan that he like, shoot out
- 21:19Speaker 2: Taylor Luwan like early on and his tenure in Tennessee,
- 21:22Speaker 2: and everybody was like, holy crap, he just shoot out
- 21:25Speaker 2: the best player in front of the entire team. It
- 21:27Speaker 2: always helps when your leaders are your best players. He
- 21:31Speaker 2: doesn't need to be a raw rack guy to be
- 21:33Speaker 2: a leader. And Christian Gonzales just it feels like they're
- 21:38Speaker 2: trying to just that this is more of an inevitability
- 21:42Speaker 2: with the contract. But maybe they you know, they are
- 21:45Speaker 2: working on in terms of the numbers themselves. But it
- 21:49Speaker 2: is interesting to hear some of the really strong pushes
- 21:53Speaker 2: made by Elliott Wolf made by Mike Rabel here over
- 21:57Speaker 2: the last couple of weeks. Anything else on Gonzales before
- 22:00Speaker 2: we move on, I think that's it, all right. A
- 22:03Speaker 2: couple more things, so let's do no no. I thought
- 22:06Speaker 2: I had someone on a J. Brown, but I forgot it.
- 22:08Speaker 2: We'll get to a J.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Brown.
- 22:09Speaker 2: He's last.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm sure we got calls about him.
- 22:12Speaker 2: A couple more things. I thought that. I think it
- 22:15Speaker 2: was Chad Graff who asked the question. I apologize if
- 22:17Speaker 2: it was somebody else. I thought it was a good
- 22:19Speaker 2: question about wanting to improve the run game and some
- 22:22Speaker 2: of the free agency signings that clearly seemed to have
- 22:26Speaker 2: pointed in that direction, which I think we've talked about
- 22:28Speaker 2: Regie Gilliam you pay a guard, you sign a blocking
- 22:32Speaker 2: tight end, and Julian Hill. It just seemed like they
- 22:35Speaker 2: were trying to send a message that they wanted to
- 22:38Speaker 2: be more physical, be more run centric, and verybel basically
- 22:41Speaker 2: confirmed that line of thinking yesterday during his press conference,
- 22:46Speaker 2: saying that the numbers sort of came out and to
- 22:51Speaker 2: wash because they had some big explosive runs, especially by
- 22:54Speaker 2: Treveon Henderson, but he thought that they were inconsistent and
- 22:57Speaker 2: the word he used was inefficient running football. I'm not
- 23:01Speaker 2: sure if they used these exact metrics. They probably don't,
- 23:05Speaker 2: but the Patriots were fourteenth in yards per carry last year,
- 23:08Speaker 2: so middle of the pack. A lot of that has
- 23:10Speaker 2: to do with the big runs, though, right those conscut
- 23:12Speaker 2: when you have fifty sixty seventy yard runs like Trevon
- 23:15Speaker 2: Henderson did last year. That excuse it. They were twenty
- 23:18Speaker 2: fifth in the league. And EPA per rush, and EPA
- 23:21Speaker 2: takes into account down in distance more like that played
- 23:25Speaker 2: a play consistency of the run game, you know, short yardage,
- 23:29Speaker 2: goal line success, like all those types of context clues
- 23:33Speaker 2: that matter in this conversation. So they were a bottom
- 23:36Speaker 2: ten rush offense last year by the advanced metrics, and
- 23:39Speaker 2: it seems like Rabel knows that, whether they're using EPA
- 23:42Speaker 2: or their own formula or whatever the case may be.
- 23:44Speaker 2: So they wanted to get bigger, batter, tougher in terms
- 23:50Speaker 2: of the run game. They went out there and did it.
- 23:53Speaker 2: I thought it was just interesting that he kind of
- 23:54Speaker 2: confirmed that that line of thinking that we all sort
- 23:57Speaker 2: of kind of ad.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean the free agency were that with
- 24:00Speaker 1: the guys they added, they want to be more. It's
- 24:02Speaker 1: the consistency, It's everything we talked about.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Last year.
- 24:04Speaker 1: They were ripping off the big runs, but the consistency
- 24:06Speaker 1: wasn't there. And at a certain point, you know you,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I know you love running to set up the pass, yep,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I know you love that as a concept, but the
- 24:14Speaker 1: reality is if you don't have a sustained run game,
- 24:18Speaker 1: it allows the defense to approach things differently in terms
- 24:21Speaker 1: of sitting more on the pass, not taking play action
- 24:24Speaker 1: as seriously things like that, and it's going to open
- 24:27Speaker 1: things up for Drake May a lot more if they
- 24:29Speaker 1: can have a sustained run game.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Yeah. That was the other thing that he mentioned that
- 24:31Speaker 2: was music to my ears on this topic was that
- 24:35Speaker 2: he talked about the run actions and the you know,
- 24:37Speaker 2: which is the coach speak for play action. I don't
- 24:40Speaker 2: know when we decided to call it run action, but
- 24:42Speaker 2: now we call it run action apparently instead of play acting.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I still call it play action.
- 24:46Speaker 2: But he brought that up and he said that he
- 24:49Speaker 2: wants that to be a bigger weapon for them next year.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So it's not you think that's him talking and you
- 24:55Speaker 1: think that's something here. Josh McDaniels say maybe a combination,
- 24:58Speaker 1: because I feel like Josh McDaniel's like, that's that sounds
- 25:01Speaker 1: like a him thing.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Maybe a combination, But all of them, all these things. Yeah,
- 25:08Speaker 2: like all these things like play action motion, like all
- 25:11Speaker 2: the bells and whistles that we talk about. I call
- 25:13Speaker 2: them easy buttons because they just drive up passing efficiency.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Like it's just a known fact now that play action
- 25:21Speaker 2: is more effective than drop that passing, especially if you're
- 25:24Speaker 2: if you're a team that can really sell it and
- 25:26Speaker 2: is really good at it. So that's why all these
- 25:28Speaker 2: offenses that are rooted in that sort of thing are
- 25:31Speaker 2: so successful, is because it's just really that misdirection and
- 25:35Speaker 2: that sort of false look to the defense is just
- 25:38Speaker 2: hard to stop. It's hard to defend. They didn't necessarily
- 25:42Speaker 2: have a great play action passing offense last year. They
- 25:44Speaker 2: necessarily have a great running game when you start to
- 25:47Speaker 2: really look under the hood of some of these numbers
- 25:49Speaker 2: in the run game. So what I love so much
- 25:51Speaker 2: about it is that he talked about situational running and
- 25:55Speaker 2: marrying run and play action, which to me are the
- 25:58Speaker 2: core of why you run the ball. Yeah, you run
- 26:02Speaker 2: the ball for short yardage, you run the ball on
- 26:04Speaker 2: the goal line, you run the ball to close out
- 26:06Speaker 2: games when you have leads in the fourth quarter, and
- 26:09Speaker 2: you run the ball to set up play action like
- 26:11Speaker 2: that that that, to me is philosophically is why you
- 26:15Speaker 2: want to push the running game in nowadays in the
- 26:18Speaker 2: modern league. And that that was really good to hear
- 26:22Speaker 2: out of him because I think he agrees. Next thing
- 26:25Speaker 2: on my list just getting into the draft a little bit,
- 26:29Speaker 2: tight end in third quarterback. Seems like those are right
- 26:32Speaker 2: on the list, along with some of the other things
- 26:34Speaker 2: that we've discussed.
- 26:35Speaker 1: They might draft two tight ends. I've been kind of
- 26:37Speaker 1: rulling that out. They might draft too and carry four.
- 26:40Speaker 2: It just seems tough to me because you also are
- 26:42Speaker 2: carrying Gilliam.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So he every time he's asked a tight ends he
- 26:46Speaker 1: lights up. It's clearly his favorite question.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Because I think it's his favorite position because I feel
- 26:51Speaker 2: like as a defense I.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Want somebody to ask him that, and I know we
- 26:54Speaker 1: have the ability to it. It's just like I wasn't
- 26:56Speaker 1: there yesterday. Next time he talks like he moonlight.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I think he likes tight end.
- 26:59Speaker 1: But you think he likes tight end better than the linebacker. Yes, okay,
- 27:02Speaker 1: because he caught.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I think he would even admit that catching touchdowns is
- 27:07Speaker 2: the most fun thing you could do on a football field,
- 27:10Speaker 2: throwing or catching touchdowns, right, and so his experience doing
- 27:15Speaker 2: that as a goal line tight end, I think he
- 27:18Speaker 2: feels like that is almost more impressive than anything that
- 27:23Speaker 2: he did on the defensive side of the ball. That
- 27:25Speaker 2: he was able to flip sides and play offense and
- 27:27Speaker 2: catch touchdown passes from Tom Brady, I think is like
- 27:30Speaker 2: his pinnacle. You know, he shows the clips of him
- 27:34Speaker 2: doing it every year in front of the team, like
- 27:36Speaker 2: he really likes that, and I think he really likes
- 27:39Speaker 2: the position because of it. I would also say, like
- 27:41Speaker 2: a lot of the times, linebackers and tight ends work
- 27:44Speaker 2: out together a lot, and they work together a lot
- 27:47Speaker 2: because they're obviously going right up against each other. So
- 27:50Speaker 2: whether it's workouts, whether it's positional drills in practice where
- 27:54Speaker 2: they're doing blocking and stuff like that, there's a lot
- 27:57Speaker 2: of interaction between those two positions groups on a football team.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So I think maybe he just has a soft spot
- 28:04Speaker 2: for tight ends just in general.
- 28:06Speaker 1: They're gonna they're gonna draft. To me, tight end comes
- 28:09Speaker 1: into play at sixty.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Three, and yeah, I agree.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I only say the only reason I don't say thirty
- 28:15Speaker 1: one is because I think Sadiq's gonna go too early
- 28:18Speaker 1: for them to even trade up. I wouldn't be surprised
- 28:20Speaker 1: if they've used Stowers as a receiver. Yeah, and so
- 28:23Speaker 1: I don't know, are you taking Max Claire at thirty one?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Probably not? Would they do you? I know I kind
- 28:28Speaker 1: of got roasted for this by you and some people
- 28:30Speaker 1: in the comments last week.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Good.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I'm not asking if you would. I am asking could
- 28:36Speaker 1: you see them taking Max Claire, Oscar Delp, Sam Rouch,
- 28:40Speaker 1: whoever at sixty three, especially if Stowers goes like top
- 28:44Speaker 1: fifty and like, okay, here comes a run on tight ends.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I could see it. It's not something I would advocate for.
- 28:50Speaker 2: That's not what I'm asking you. I could see it.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Are ruling it out. I'm not really, I'm not ruling
- 28:54Speaker 2: out anything, but I would say I don't think we
- 28:56Speaker 2: can rule it out. I would much rather than trying
- 28:58Speaker 2: to trade up from ninety five at that point.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Okay, I'm with you.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I'm with you. I think I just think saty three
- 29:03Speaker 2: is a little high for those guys, that's all.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I'm with you. But we're not the ones making the decision.
- 29:09Speaker 2: They are.
- 29:10Speaker 1: It's not our job to I could tell you what
- 29:11Speaker 1: I would do all day. It doesn't matter, Yeah, right,
- 29:13Speaker 1: What matters is what they're gonna do. That's what we're
- 29:15Speaker 1: trying to project. I could see it.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I could see it. If they're going to locate allocation
- 29:21Speaker 2: of resources. I don't. I don't. Again, I agree, but
- 29:25Speaker 2: I'm not rolling out them doing it. Okay, I don't.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I guess.
- 29:32Speaker 1: I'm just asking you to project. I'm not asking what
- 29:34Speaker 1: you do.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I think that this is the biggest issue with tight
- 29:36Speaker 2: End that that I have though in this draft is
- 29:40Speaker 2: I think there's a pretty sizeable gap between Sadik and
- 29:43Speaker 2: the rest of the pack. Yeah, and so Sadik's going
- 29:45Speaker 2: to go in the first round, probably too high for
- 29:47Speaker 2: the Patriots. Yes, he's gonna go top ten wherever he goes.
- 29:51Speaker 2: I just don't feel I don't. It's tough for me
- 29:55Speaker 2: to stomach. Like where who your would take at sixty three?
- 30:00Speaker 2: And like, I really think the guy that you're taking
- 30:02Speaker 2: at sixty three is probably a third round pick, probably,
- 30:07Speaker 2: you know, guy that in a different sort of draft
- 30:10Speaker 2: and a different landscape and a different board is probably
- 30:12Speaker 2: closer to whether the ninety fifth pick than the sixty third.
- 30:15Speaker 2: But if you don't take him at sixty three, is
- 30:17Speaker 2: he gonna be there at ninety five?
- 30:18Speaker 1: That's like if these guys start, like if you take it,
- 30:22Speaker 1: if you take a guy at sixty three, maybe you're overdrafting. Yeah,
- 30:26Speaker 1: but if you wait, if you have to trade up
- 30:28Speaker 1: from ninety six, you're not overdrafting in the sense that
- 30:32Speaker 1: you're getting him in a better spot on the board
- 30:36Speaker 1: compared to the projection. But you're also you're now using
- 30:39Speaker 1: two picks or three picks to draft him, depending on
- 30:42Speaker 1: how high you trade off. And you might say, Okay,
- 30:44Speaker 1: there's six round picks whatever, Fine, but like that's the
- 30:46Speaker 1: reality of it. If they want to make here. Here's
- 30:48Speaker 1: another like developing draft take I have that I guess
- 30:51Speaker 1: plays into this is everybody's acting like they have eleven pick.
- 30:57Speaker 1: There's no way they're gonna make eleven picks. They're gonna
- 30:59Speaker 1: fly off the way they should. Again, this is projections.
- 31:01Speaker 1: That's not what I would do. Four of the six
- 31:04Speaker 1: years that Elliot Wolf has been here, and I understand
- 31:07Speaker 1: that his role has varied in that time, but just
- 31:11Speaker 1: to use that as a window, four of the six
- 31:13Speaker 1: years Ellie Wolf has been here, they've made at.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Least ten picks.
- 31:18Speaker 1: We always say there's no way they're going to make
- 31:19Speaker 1: all those picks, and then you know what they do.
- 31:21Speaker 1: They make all those picks. They made three seventh round
- 31:24Speaker 1: picks last year. Yeah, So the idea that they're going
- 31:27Speaker 1: to make a trade that's like four picks for one,
- 31:31Speaker 1: I don't think it's happening, or if it does, there's
- 31:33Speaker 1: going to be another trade back down and recoup it.
- 31:35Speaker 1: So that's my counter to your point. Yeah, you feel
- 31:38Speaker 1: more comfortable drafting them at ninety five. What do you
- 31:41Speaker 1: think the odds that won of Claire delper Rous is
- 31:43Speaker 1: there at ninety five? And if you don't like those odds,
- 31:46Speaker 1: maybe not zero. But if you don't like those odds,
- 31:47Speaker 1: you have to trade up. Are they going to be
- 31:49Speaker 1: willing to give up two picks three picks just to
- 31:52Speaker 1: draft a tight end versus, hey, we like the player,
- 31:54Speaker 1: we'll take them at sixty three and we'll go from there.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Fair enough. I would like to think that. And again,
- 32:04Speaker 2: you know this is how this works. There's runs, guys
- 32:06Speaker 2: go higher because of runs and all that kind of stuff.
- 32:09Speaker 2: But I think that guys like Sam Roush, for example,
- 32:13Speaker 2: you bring up that's his value, like his value is
- 32:17Speaker 2: somewhere four round.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I don't think you're taking rash at sixty three.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I was just kind of using no I know, but
- 32:23Speaker 2: I'm saying, like, at the end of the day, don't
- 32:25Speaker 2: you just kind of feel like most of the time
- 32:28Speaker 2: those things sort of come out and the way that
- 32:31Speaker 2: you sort of think they are going to. Like, obviously
- 32:33Speaker 2: we don't have control of the board in terms of
- 32:35Speaker 2: the injuries and the red flags and the off field,
- 32:38Speaker 2: and I'm just talking about in terms of the things
- 32:41Speaker 2: that we know. So like, I just so somebody's gonna
- 32:44Speaker 2: take Sam Roush like a round or two earlier than
- 32:47Speaker 2: he probably.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Not a round or two earlier, but in the eighties.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I guess you know, you can't say he's going to
- 32:53Speaker 1: go around pick ninety five and then he goes to
- 32:55Speaker 1: pick ninety four to the Dolphins and or better exam
- 32:58Speaker 1: would be the Rams at ninety three. Like he is
- 32:59Speaker 1: kind of prototypical Rams tight end, right, you know McVeigh
- 33:02Speaker 1: tight end. So and look, maybe you look at that
- 33:06Speaker 1: and say, okay, fine, we'll move up from ninety to
- 33:08Speaker 1: ninety five to ninety two, and you know, it's all
- 33:10Speaker 1: well and good, but I don't are they going to
- 33:14Speaker 1: be willing to trade up that far? And like they
- 33:18Speaker 1: clearly want a guy, This isn't a oh if there's
- 33:21Speaker 1: a good tight end on the board, I guess one.
- 33:24Speaker 2: But my point is is, like, you know, how do
- 33:26Speaker 2: they view in terms of the clusters and the drop offs?
- 33:29Speaker 1: Well, the other the other option we haven't brought up
- 33:31Speaker 1: is moving back from sixty three and taking a tight
- 33:33Speaker 1: end with your second pick. But your second pick is
- 33:35Speaker 1: in the third round, okay, which is probably more realistic.
- 33:38Speaker 2: If you have to take let's just keep it simple. Yeah,
- 33:43Speaker 2: if you have to take delp raush Claire, let's put
- 33:50Speaker 2: Stowers in there too, even though it's not our guy. Yeah,
- 33:53Speaker 2: if you have to take one of those players at
- 33:55Speaker 2: sixty three, are you taking that player at sixty three?
- 33:59Speaker 2: Or are you taking like Jack Injuries reared in one
- 34:04Speaker 2: of those guys at ninety five, or like one of
- 34:06Speaker 2: the fourth rounds you.
- 34:07Speaker 1: See now Injuries at ninety five feels like a big reach.
- 34:09Speaker 1: To me, that feels like a bigger reach. But I
- 34:12Speaker 1: don't know who else is on the board, Like, there's
- 34:14Speaker 1: it's complicated. I if they again, Rabel seems a static
- 34:19Speaker 1: about finding like his guy a tight end, nothing else,
- 34:22Speaker 1: Hunter Henry, But I think.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Years old, right exactly, Hunter Henry.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Rabel wants to find his guy, and I think the
- 34:30Speaker 1: idea is this is the guy that not ability wise,
- 34:34Speaker 1: but like this is Brady and Gronk. He wants to
- 34:37Speaker 1: find Drake. May's go to tight end for the next
- 34:39Speaker 1: ten years.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Sure? Is that a.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Position that they're gonna view? Is it a better value
- 34:43Speaker 1: for the lesser player? Are they just gonna be like, no,
- 34:44Speaker 1: we we like this guy. This is our guy. We're
- 34:48Speaker 1: taking him where we need to take him to get him.
- 34:50Speaker 2: If they think he's good enough. Maybe they just got
- 34:52Speaker 2: these guys differently than I do, and they think the
- 34:54Speaker 2: players are better than I.
- 34:55Speaker 1: It's not those guys, it's more of the position.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Is it a position? Is willing to take bad? The
- 35:00Speaker 2: process to just take a guy because he plays tight
- 35:02Speaker 2: end is bad process.
- 35:04Speaker 1: It's not just taking it's it I guess, yeah, Okay,
- 35:07Speaker 1: maybe it is viewing the players differently. Does he view
- 35:09Speaker 1: that gap as wider?
- 35:11Speaker 2: Yeah? Or does he just fall in love with Oscar
- 35:13Speaker 2: del bird Stores or Claire or Rausch or whatever. I
- 35:17Speaker 2: don't know. I just feel as though, in a normal setting,
- 35:21Speaker 2: you know, this reminds me a lot of it was
- 35:24Speaker 2: Ossi Ossi and King was twenty twenty. Yeah, right, and
- 35:27Speaker 2: I know that that those players didn't work out well.
- 35:29Speaker 1: That was also not nearly the tight end draft, but
- 35:31Speaker 1: those guys would not have been top one hundred.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Picks in the YAP.
- 35:34Speaker 1: But just looking at that draft, just paying me how
- 35:38Speaker 1: far back I had to go to get to twenty twenty.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Remember in that draft there was a run and I
- 35:43Speaker 2: think the Patriots started it with ossi Assi, But I
- 35:46Speaker 2: was really high that year on Adam Trotman. You you
- 35:49Speaker 2: loved Adam Traut. Harrison Bryant was in that draft. He
- 35:53Speaker 2: won the Mackie Award that year.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Yep.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Uh. There was a run of I want to say
- 35:58Speaker 2: what six eight ten guys that went in like a
- 36:01Speaker 2: span of like.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Around So ossi Ousti went ninety one, then Josiah Degaderi
- 36:08Speaker 1: go's ninety four, Victoria Dalton King goes one oh one,
- 36:11Speaker 1: Adam Troutman goes one oh five, Harrison Bryant one fifteen,
- 36:15Speaker 1: albert O at one eighteen.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Right, So it was a little bit of a run there. Yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 2: this draft, I view it as similarly. I think that
- 36:22Speaker 2: all these guys are sort of in that same kind
- 36:25Speaker 2: of cluster. Third fourth round picks where that run should happen.
- 36:29Speaker 2: So but if that run happens thirty picks earlier, then
- 36:31Speaker 2: you have to you have to be willing to just.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I get that just looking at what the projections worth
- 36:36Speaker 1: the time. Yeah, you had no first round tight ends,
- 36:38Speaker 1: ye bared out. Yeah, and you had five tight ends
- 36:42Speaker 1: going in that were viewed as top one hundred five picks.
- 36:47Speaker 1: So five in the top one hundred five, and you
- 36:49Speaker 1: ended up getting one, two, three, four five, And you
- 36:53Speaker 1: end up getting five in the top one hundred and five.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Adam Troutman went one hundred and fifth. This class is
- 37:01Speaker 1: one in the first round and one two three four.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Oh no, okay, it's five in the top one hundred five.
- 37:08Speaker 1: All right, fair enough, all right, moving on, I wait,
- 37:11Speaker 1: hang on, sorry, If there's gonna be a run on them,
- 37:13Speaker 1: isn't that all the more reason that they might get
- 37:14Speaker 1: aggressive and taking one earlier?
- 37:16Speaker 2: Maybe? But I just my point is is more looking
- 37:19Speaker 2: at it. You know, he said it yesterday, You like,
- 37:22Speaker 2: you don't want a draft for need? You don't, right, right,
- 37:24Speaker 2: And so yes, he wants a tight end. He likes
- 37:26Speaker 2: the position.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It's not a need, that's a one I I.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Right like And to just go out there and just
- 37:32Speaker 2: draft a player at sixty three and overdraft a player
- 37:34Speaker 2: at sixty three because he plays a position that you
- 37:37Speaker 2: like and that you want to target. Is tow teams
- 37:40Speaker 2: get in trouble. What's what's bad? Pay you get in trouble.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Okay, So if it comes down to if there's a run,
- 37:47Speaker 1: we assume people are going to go hired and projected.
- 37:50Speaker 1: What's more of a reach to you taking clear delp
- 37:54Speaker 1: around earlier than they're supposed to go it's sixty three,
- 37:57Speaker 1: or taking Jack Andrews two rounds of where head he's
- 38:01Speaker 1: supposed to go a head where he's supposed to go
- 38:03Speaker 1: two rounds.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Jack Andrew's going to the fourth round?
- 38:06Speaker 1: Well, ayeah, right now is projected fifth round pick.
- 38:08Speaker 2: He's going in the fourth round. All right, he's gonna
- 38:11Speaker 2: be a fourth rounder.
- 38:12Speaker 1: So like, so would you better rather take the better
- 38:15Speaker 1: player around earlier or the lesser player around earlier?
- 38:18Speaker 2: Well it's not just that though, right, because it's who
- 38:21Speaker 2: you're all Who are you taking him over at sixty three?
- 38:23Speaker 2: Like if you take one of those players and you're
- 38:26Speaker 2: passing up on one of the pass rushers, or you're
- 38:28Speaker 2: passing up on one of the receivers or you're passing
- 38:30Speaker 2: up on one of the linebackers in this class that
- 38:33Speaker 2: are all really good players like that, that's the that's
- 38:36Speaker 2: the other question. And I just think that this tight
- 38:39Speaker 2: end class and then we can move on. This tight
- 38:42Speaker 2: end class to me is deeper than it is top heavy. Yes,
- 38:45Speaker 2: there's just a lot of names. There's a big bag
- 38:48Speaker 2: and you got to grab the right one out of
- 38:49Speaker 2: the bag. But there's a there's a big bag. This
- 38:52Speaker 2: isn't last year where you had Warren and Loveland at
- 38:55Speaker 2: the top, where you had two top fifteen talents in
- 38:58Speaker 2: the draft. This is much more a Day two and
- 39:02Speaker 2: Day three tight end draft. And you're just gonna have
- 39:04Speaker 2: to figure out which cluster you want to pick from, right,
- 39:07Speaker 2: you know, is it the Andreies raared in if you
- 39:11Speaker 2: want to throw Kozial in there in that group like
- 39:13Speaker 2: Dak cluster, or is it the delp Roush Claire cluster
- 39:18Speaker 2: and that that's that's why they get paid to do
- 39:21Speaker 2: this and we don't. That's right, Uh quarterback Yep, clearly
- 39:26Speaker 2: they're gonna invest something six round pick Udfa. I think
- 39:31Speaker 2: it might be a draft pick, Like I just feel
- 39:33Speaker 2: like a UDFA. They they tried that last year with
- 39:35Speaker 2: Ben Woolridge. Like, I don't think you're just not gonna
- 39:38Speaker 2: get a good enough player.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and you get the team control too. Like, if
- 39:40Speaker 1: they want to have three quarterbacks on the roster, I
- 39:42Speaker 1: have May. It seems like it, right, you have May,
- 39:45Speaker 1: you have Davido. You have this guy, and you're just
- 39:47Speaker 1: like you're you're good. It seems like a tradable asset.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like Drake May in year two graduated
- 39:55Speaker 2: to we this. You know, obviously he's the guy, but
- 39:59Speaker 2: also we don't worry about putting.
- 40:02Speaker 1: You're not worried about zappy fever.
- 40:03Speaker 2: No, this is not Joe Milton. This is not Bailey
- 40:05Speaker 2: Zappy Joe. We're good. So where do they draft the quarterback?
- 40:11Speaker 2: I think is the most interesting thing. Yeah, so how
- 40:13Speaker 2: early are you going? Six? Yeah?
- 40:15Speaker 1: I don't know about above that. So I know Taylor
- 40:17Speaker 1: Green's the name Patriots fans have brought up that they
- 40:19Speaker 1: like Cole Payton from North Dakota State. Those guys are
- 40:21Speaker 1: going too high. And Taylor Green, by the way he
- 40:23Speaker 1: said its comment, he's playing quarterback.
- 40:25Speaker 2: He's not changing.
- 40:26Speaker 1: He's playing quarterback. So I look at two guys. There's
- 40:29Speaker 1: maybe a third that I wouldn't like, but I'll be
- 40:31Speaker 1: grudguingly put on the list. That's Kid Club Nick. I
- 40:34Speaker 1: had really not a believer in Kate Clubnick, but yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 1: I could see it, you know, if they go six
- 40:41Speaker 1: round a little more of an investment, relatively speaking, Sawyer
- 40:45Speaker 1: Robertson from Baylor. My big thing when you're trying to
- 40:48Speaker 1: find a backup quarterback is who's stylistically similar to your starter?
- 40:53Speaker 1: And I know this is the third string, but it
- 40:54Speaker 1: still applies. Who's stylistically similar to your starter that can
- 40:57Speaker 1: run a lot of the same things. Sarah Robertson's bigger guy.
- 41:01Speaker 1: You know, can move around in the backfield, got a
- 41:03Speaker 1: big arm. Doesn't necessarily the accuracy make some you know,
- 41:08Speaker 1: there's some decisions that you're gonna want him to make better.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Why he's going in six round, But like stylistically is
- 41:13Speaker 1: a fit for may The other guy now he's probably
- 41:15Speaker 1: in the seventh round, you could take him in the
- 41:17Speaker 1: sixth I guess is Joe Fiano from Yukon. Yeah, have
- 41:21Speaker 1: you watched him?
- 41:23Speaker 2: I know who?
- 41:24Speaker 1: Well, I guess you watched Skyler Bell. So the reason
- 41:28Speaker 1: there's really just one reason for the start twelve games
- 41:30Speaker 1: last year through four under thirteen passes, one interception. Yeah,
- 41:34Speaker 1: that is a Josh McDaniels quarterback.
- 41:36Speaker 2: He made some good decisions and like I didn't come
- 41:38Speaker 2: away from that tape being like Skyler Bell got really
- 41:41Speaker 2: roasted by his quarterback.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Round he was fine.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Yeah, he got Skyler Bell the ball when Skyler Bell needed.
- 41:47Speaker 1: He completed seventy percent of his passes, twenty eight touchdowns,
- 41:50Speaker 1: one pick. Now he's ol. He was in college for
- 41:52Speaker 1: seven years. He was at Maine for four.
- 41:54Speaker 2: How old is he?
- 41:55Speaker 1: I think he's twenty five. Yeah, he was at Maine
- 41:57Speaker 1: for four, Yukon for three. He only is two full
- 41:59Speaker 1: years of r or to his last year at Maine
- 42:01Speaker 1: and then his last year. U kind of started six
- 42:03Speaker 1: games last year, so not like it's not like he
- 42:05Speaker 1: didn't play started twenty five games his career. But you know,
- 42:10Speaker 1: you don't need it. He's got the mind for it. Yeah,
- 42:13Speaker 1: and he doesn't have the biggest RM and he's not
- 42:15Speaker 1: like the best athlete, but he it's what you want
- 42:17Speaker 1: kind of in a backup quarterback. If he has to
- 42:20Speaker 1: go into a game, if there's an emergency, has to
- 42:21Speaker 1: go to a game, you don't worry about him, just
- 42:23Speaker 1: totally melting in the moment, right, So yeah, those are
- 42:27Speaker 1: my two guys. Usually there's a quarterback, like a couple
- 42:29Speaker 1: quarterbacks in late rounds that are like fun that.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Because it's tailing green guys, he's going too high, or
- 42:35Speaker 2: it's did you watch Haynes king yet a little bit? Okay, no,
- 42:39Speaker 2: I didn't do it.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask a question again. Do you think he
- 42:41Speaker 1: can play running back in the NFL?
- 42:43Speaker 2: I think you played like the Taysom Hill role, Like
- 42:46Speaker 2: I think, I don't think he's like a peer running back.
- 42:49Speaker 2: It's like six to two. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 42:52Speaker 2: don't think he's a peer running back. Could he be
- 42:54Speaker 2: a gadget player maybe? Yeah?
- 42:57Speaker 1: Runs hard, yeah, quick, has.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Some I liked about him. Look pretty nimble, smooth.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Right exactly.
- 43:03Speaker 2: He kind of slithers through the line of scrimmage, you know,
- 43:06Speaker 2: with a lot of no wasted movement. Snow, you know,
- 43:09Speaker 2: not too much dancing. So maybe that's the guy too.
- 43:12Speaker 1: But now you're like if the goals from going to
- 43:14Speaker 1: be the third quarterback, now you're back to where we
- 43:16Speaker 1: were two years ago with Malie Cunningham where if he's
- 43:19Speaker 1: the emergency quarterback, he can't do that stuff because he's
- 43:21Speaker 1: not technically active.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Right, So I think the question is, are you drafting
- 43:28Speaker 2: a quarterback with you are going to be a career
- 43:31Speaker 2: backup in mind? And I I'm not using this name
- 43:35Speaker 2: to throw any shade, but like Brian Hoyer, right, or
- 43:38Speaker 2: are you drafting the quarterback.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Trying Are you trying to do that Joe Milton to
- 43:43Speaker 1: draft somebody that shows out in the preseason, you flip.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Them right, and look, it's going to be too high.
- 43:48Speaker 1: But Taylor Green is tailing is that it's a bad
- 43:52Speaker 1: quarterback draft. Those guys are going to go too high
- 43:54Speaker 1: because teams are going to try to get their starters.
- 43:56Speaker 1: The best you're doing with that guy, I think we're,
- 43:58Speaker 1: you know, outside of the top two, one hundred or
- 44:01Speaker 1: you want what do they have? One ninety one is
- 44:02Speaker 1: their first six round pick? Yeah, like Sawyer Robertson to me,
- 44:05Speaker 1: is as close as you're getting to that late in
- 44:08Speaker 1: the draft?
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I just I think there's two kind of names
- 44:13Speaker 2: that come to mind. And it's gonna say this for
- 44:15Speaker 2: a recency buyas, but I keep saying that's so let's
- 44:17Speaker 2: just do it with Taylor Green. There's two kind of
- 44:19Speaker 2: names that come to mind. At quarterback. There's a little Kaepernick,
- 44:23Speaker 2: like he's.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Got the bill, but a long stride, long stride, big arm.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, there's a little Kaepernick there as an athlete,
- 44:31Speaker 2: Like I think, I think I see a little bit
- 44:33Speaker 2: more Terrell Prior than I do call it Kaepernick. So
- 44:36Speaker 2: Trell Pryor ended up switching to wide receiver and like
- 44:39Speaker 2: had a few good years right as a wide receiver.
- 44:42Speaker 2: So I just and look, he the biggest issue that
- 44:46Speaker 2: I saw, you know, not as a thrower, as a runner,
- 44:50Speaker 2: or just as a quarterback with Taylor and Green, I
- 44:52Speaker 2: should say he runs into way too many sacks. Like
- 44:55Speaker 2: he just he just is. He's out the back of
- 44:58Speaker 2: the pocket. He's not any disciplined every single chance he gets.
- 45:01Speaker 2: So with that, I posted a clip of him, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 2: running around and coming out at the backside for a
- 45:08Speaker 2: sixty yard game. With that are the twenty yard losses
- 45:12Speaker 2: on sacks when he gets caught trying to do that.
- 45:15Speaker 2: So if you're gonna play, if he's gonna play quarterback,
- 45:17Speaker 2: he's going to have to learn to step through the
- 45:20Speaker 2: pocket instead a step out of the back of the pocket.
- 45:22Speaker 2: In the league, you can't go out the back. I
- 45:25Speaker 2: don't care how fast you are, Like, unless you're like
- 45:27Speaker 2: Michael Vick faster or Lamar Jackson fast, if you go
- 45:30Speaker 2: out the back of the pocket, you're porked. In the NFL,
- 45:33Speaker 2: the guys are too fast if you go through the
- 45:35Speaker 2: middle of the pocket, which I think is probably what
- 45:38Speaker 2: Drake May's best at as a scrambler, yeah, is that
- 45:40Speaker 2: he's he usually goes forward instead of backwards to get
- 45:43Speaker 2: out of trouble in the pocket. That is when you
- 45:46Speaker 2: can do damage in the league as a scrambler. So
- 45:48Speaker 2: whoever gets their hands on Tailing Green, who I think
- 45:51Speaker 2: should absolutely play quarterback to start, Yeah, because I think
- 45:54Speaker 2: there's enough there if you design an offense that's a
- 45:58Speaker 2: lot like the offense at the four Niners ran for
- 46:00Speaker 2: Colin Kaepernick, where there is a lot of option running
- 46:05Speaker 2: on early downs. Yeah, there's it's gonna be a lot
- 46:07Speaker 2: of zone read or read option plays. There's gonna be
- 46:10Speaker 2: some RPOs in there, probably, you know, all that kind
- 46:13Speaker 2: of stuff that Greg Roman did with with Kaepernick and
- 46:16Speaker 2: did with Lamar Jackson. Like I think that Taylor Green
- 46:19Speaker 2: has an NFL future as a quarterback. I wouldn't move him. Now,
- 46:23Speaker 2: if you end up having to move him because he
- 46:24Speaker 2: just doesn't pan out and he doesn't develop, then the
- 46:27Speaker 2: Terrelle Prior thing is there, Like he's that kind of athlete.
- 46:31Speaker 2: He's a fun player, Like I I think that he's
- 46:33Speaker 2: too good of an athlete to not have a role
- 46:36Speaker 2: on an NFL team, Like they're gonna someone's gonna find
- 46:39Speaker 2: a way to pay.
- 46:39Speaker 1: All the more reason he's not gonna end up on
- 46:40Speaker 1: Patriots because teams know it and he's gonna go higher
- 46:43Speaker 1: than expected.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so quarterback. The last thing I put
- 46:48Speaker 2: here regudglingly. Uh, the Patriots are going to host the
- 46:51Speaker 2: Eagles for joint practices. I'm not sure if that's one
- 46:53Speaker 2: or multiple practices, but the Eagles are gonna come here.
- 46:56Speaker 2: I'll do the does do the multiples anymore? Usually not
- 46:59Speaker 2: because the right it's scrappy. The I'll do the talk
- 47:05Speaker 2: show host facilitation. Is aj Brown going to be a
- 47:09Speaker 2: Patriot or an Eagle for the joint practices?
- 47:11Speaker 1: Will be here at all?
- 47:13Speaker 2: Uh, he'll be on another team. Nont know.
- 47:16Speaker 1: I came away from the whole week just kind of
- 47:19Speaker 1: feeling the same as I was about A. J.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Brown.
- 47:21Speaker 1: If I had a guess, I think he's a patriot,
- 47:22Speaker 1: but I don't feel strongly about it. I'm like, fifty
- 47:24Speaker 1: five forty five he's patriot.
- 47:26Speaker 2: So it seemed to me and I and this is
- 47:29Speaker 2: going off of the Philly reporting of this story more
- 47:34Speaker 2: so than the national and the Patriots reporting. A lot
- 47:37Speaker 2: of the Philly people think that he's got well.
- 47:39Speaker 1: So did you see the ESPN piece this morning? Yeah,
- 47:42Speaker 1: they did more about Jalen Hurts, but it kind of
- 47:44Speaker 1: lends itself to this whole light like you can't. I
- 47:49Speaker 1: think some of the pushback had been well, you know,
- 47:51Speaker 1: it's easy. They're always reporting receivers aren't happy, like that's
- 47:54Speaker 1: he seems unhappy.
- 47:56Speaker 2: It just seems like there's this feeling amongst the knock
- 48:00Speaker 2: the mic, there's this feeling among the Eagles reporters that
- 48:04Speaker 2: it's inevitable that he gets moved.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Right, it's just this weird June one thing is why
- 48:08Speaker 1: it hasn't happened, right, So he probably gets traded.
- 48:13Speaker 2: The Patriots are probably the front runners to get him.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Did they finish the deal? Do they get across? The
- 48:18Speaker 2: finish line? Is a different story. I don't think anything
- 48:20Speaker 2: else has really changed, But I do think that the
- 48:23Speaker 2: interesting piece of it is that the Eagles beat has
- 48:27Speaker 2: this inevitable feeling to it of like this is just
- 48:30Speaker 2: hanging over the team, and this is gonna happen and
- 48:33Speaker 2: it's just a matter of getting past this June one thing.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Was there anything else from Rabel or just the week
- 48:38Speaker 2: in general that stood out to you?
- 48:40Speaker 1: I think that was it.
- 48:41Speaker 2: You had the Harold Landry thing.
- 48:42Speaker 1: You want to talk, Oh, that's right, Mike Rabel has
- 48:45Speaker 1: asked about Harold Landry. We really haven't heard them talk
- 48:48Speaker 1: a lot about him since the season ended. Acknowledge that
- 48:51Speaker 1: he wasn't the same player after the injury, which I
- 48:53Speaker 1: think we all saw.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Yeah mentioned he's going.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Through the rehab and it's tough to tell where he's
- 48:57Speaker 1: at at that point, but is you know why, how
- 49:00Speaker 1: he's attacking it. It's just he's one of the big
- 49:02Speaker 1: wild cards of this offseason that if they're counting on
- 49:06Speaker 1: him to come back and be the guy he was
- 49:08Speaker 1: the first whatever was six seven, eight games before he
- 49:10Speaker 1: got hurt, it changes how you view edge need versus
- 49:14Speaker 1: if they're worried about him not being able to fully
- 49:17Speaker 1: come back, and what if he is the guy he
- 49:18Speaker 1: was last year. I think that changes how urgent you
- 49:21Speaker 1: are about edge rusher. They still need a guy. But
- 49:24Speaker 1: maybe that's the difference between and we can take a
- 49:27Speaker 1: tackle at thirty one and grab an edge in the
- 49:28Speaker 1: second round versus no, we need to get the best
- 49:30Speaker 1: edge rusher we can possibly get.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know in this, I don't know they're
- 49:35Speaker 2: thinking in terms of way You're right.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Like, well, that's what I'm saying, Like, we don't know.
- 49:38Speaker 1: It's one of the big variables.
- 49:40Speaker 2: I don't think that it's much of a variable though,
- 49:43Speaker 2: because I don't know how you could possibly bank on
- 49:46Speaker 2: Harold Landry not necessarily bouncing back, but like he's just
- 49:51Speaker 2: older in general.
- 49:52Speaker 1: I don't know he I think he's somebody who's coaching
- 49:54Speaker 1: staff believes in.
- 49:55Speaker 2: I think they want him to be a part of it.
- 49:56Speaker 2: You know what he can do right, And I'm not
- 49:58Speaker 2: saying that he can't have a role on the team
- 50:00Speaker 2: and he can't be on the roster and all that
- 50:02Speaker 2: kind of stuff, But you can't bank on it on
- 50:04Speaker 2: Harold Landry being like an impact player. It's nine, I know,
- 50:07Speaker 2: but he's clearly, you know, being compromised by injuries. He
- 50:12Speaker 2: had the ACL a couple of years ago. Last year
- 50:15Speaker 2: was what it was with the knee situation. It just
- 50:18Speaker 2: feels to me like you can't put too many eggs
- 50:21Speaker 2: in the Hailard Landry basket. And that's nothing to do
- 50:24Speaker 2: with Harold Landry. It's just where he's at in his career.
- 50:28Speaker 2: There's a lot of talk, and this is sort of
- 50:31Speaker 2: my take on Ed Drusher right now, there's a lot
- 50:34Speaker 2: of talk about positions they might double dip. I think
- 50:39Speaker 2: tight Ends started to pick up some steam as potential
- 50:42Speaker 2: double dip position because Rabel said he would have nine
- 50:44Speaker 2: tight ends on the roster if he could. There's been
- 50:47Speaker 2: other talks about other positions. The one position that I
- 50:51Speaker 2: feel like makes the most sense to me to double
- 50:53Speaker 2: dip at his edge, not only because it's a great
- 50:56Speaker 2: class yea. But when you really look at their depth chart,
- 51:00Speaker 2: it's Draymont Jones, Harold Leanjury, Elijah Ponder, Brayden Swinson and
- 51:05Speaker 2: that's it. It's those four guys and nothing else. There's
- 51:09Speaker 2: no more Anthony Jennings, There's no more hybrid player like
- 51:12Speaker 2: Jelani Tavai that can play Edge in a pinch, there's
- 51:15Speaker 2: nobody else. It's that group before we have no idea
- 51:19Speaker 2: what Braden Swinson is. Elijah Ponder is an undrafted rookie
- 51:23Speaker 2: last year that carved out a role. Good for him,
- 51:25Speaker 2: but like, are we really expecting him to be.
- 51:27Speaker 1: A starter to watch to project him from he played
- 51:29Speaker 1: just over two hundred snaps last year.
- 51:31Speaker 2: To starting, and then we obviously know about Landry's situation
- 51:35Speaker 2: with his health and with his knee. If there's a
- 51:38Speaker 2: position that they're going to double dip in in this draft,
- 51:40Speaker 2: to me, the one that makes the most sense is Edge,
- 51:42Speaker 2: and with Edge, I always like it personally. I think
- 51:47Speaker 2: it kind of worked out for them with Anthony Jennings
- 51:50Speaker 2: and Joshua ja. I know other people might have different
- 51:53Speaker 2: opinions of those players, especially Ouch. When you double dip
- 51:57Speaker 2: like that, you can take one that's a little bit
- 52:00Speaker 2: sturdier as a run defender, maybe a little heavier, you know,
- 52:04Speaker 2: just heavier player has a more heavier style, and then
- 52:07Speaker 2: you can take your screamer pass rusher off the edge
- 52:10Speaker 2: too and hopefully one of them blossoms into a well
- 52:15Speaker 2: rounded player and is everything that you expected. If not,
- 52:18Speaker 2: you have guys that you can mix and match, and
- 52:20Speaker 2: you know, maybe just to put names to it. You know,
- 52:23Speaker 2: I know some people like Dds from Penn State. I
- 52:26Speaker 2: like him too, But to me, he's really a run
- 52:29Speaker 2: player first right now, Like he's a little stiff, he's
- 52:31Speaker 2: a little upright the way he moves. He doesn't necessarily
- 52:33Speaker 2: have great pals.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Last year twenty four, yeah none, watch a little bit.
- 52:40Speaker 1: He didn't look as explosive.
- 52:43Speaker 2: This year he looked clunky.
- 52:44Speaker 1: But this is this is my question that I've kind
- 52:47Speaker 1: of gone back and forth on. So I'm just curious
- 52:49Speaker 1: your thought, Like how aggressive would be the double dip.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Let's say they take a guy in the first would
- 52:54Speaker 1: you go first, second? Edge?
- 52:56Speaker 2: Would you go first? Third?
- 52:58Speaker 1: Is it a day three double dip? Say they take
- 53:00Speaker 1: the edge guy in the second round, would you go second, third, second, fourth?
- 53:03Speaker 2: Right?
- 53:04Speaker 1: Like that, This is kind of what I'm trying to
- 53:05Speaker 1: figure out, is where is the range to double tip?
- 53:08Speaker 2: I just think that in a draft like this, there's
- 53:10Speaker 2: so many different types of players. So like where I
- 53:12Speaker 2: was going was like, Dds is like your run player
- 53:15Speaker 2: that you're drafting for early downs. I personally still really
- 53:19Speaker 2: like Romelo Height. I don't want to forget that. I
- 53:20Speaker 2: like Romelo Height two months ago, and then you know,
- 53:23Speaker 2: you watch new guys and it's the whole recency bias thing,
- 53:25Speaker 2: right and right, Ramelo heights two hundred and forty pounds.
- 53:29Speaker 2: You know, Ramelo Height is going to be a third
- 53:30Speaker 2: down player to start in the league. And if he
- 53:33Speaker 2: adds mass, if he adds run defense to his game,
- 53:36Speaker 2: then maybe he can you know, round out and play
- 53:39Speaker 2: every down like that. That to me makes a lot
- 53:41Speaker 2: of sense in the class like this because there are
- 53:43Speaker 2: so many different types of edge rushers and there's so
- 53:46Speaker 2: many edge rushers that it makes sense to kind of
- 53:49Speaker 2: double dip in double your odds of hitting on a
- 53:52Speaker 2: guy that can really be an impact player. So, uh,
- 53:55Speaker 2: that's the way I look at edge right now. I'm
- 53:58Speaker 2: in on the double dip at that is okay, I'm
- 54:01Speaker 2: not really in on the tight end double dip. I
- 54:02Speaker 2: can't get there.
- 54:04Speaker 1: I don't love it either, but I can see it.
- 54:06Speaker 2: The other position. I'll give you real quick before we
- 54:08Speaker 2: take the break, double dip. If they don't go tackle
- 54:11Speaker 2: at thirty one, Yeah, double dipping on tackle by day
- 54:15Speaker 2: three makes a lot of sense. Yeah, you know, fourth
- 54:17Speaker 2: round tackle paired with a sixth round tackle or fifth
- 54:20Speaker 2: round tackle and right now tackles another spot Morgan, Moses,
- 54:24Speaker 2: Will Campbell, and Marcus Bryant. That's your depth chart right
- 54:29Speaker 2: now at tackle. So you need at least one. I
- 54:32Speaker 2: think you could advocate easily for taking two. So those
- 54:35Speaker 2: are the spots I would look at. All right, let's
- 54:37Speaker 2: take a quick break, we'll come back, we'll do those

- 57:51Speaker 2: Patty is an agu on. What's up? Patty?
- 57:55Speaker 11: Hey, good afternoon, gentlemen.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Hey, what's up.
- 57:59Speaker 11: Going on? So Alex kind of like you after the combine,
- 58:04Speaker 11: I had it in my head. I had this gut
- 58:06Speaker 11: feeling that no matter what, edge was going to be
- 58:09Speaker 11: the first pick, and you couldn't change my mind. I
- 58:12Speaker 11: had the same exact feeling last year with left tackle
- 58:15Speaker 11: at number four overall, and I was ninety nine percent
- 58:18Speaker 11: sure then that it was going to be Will Campbell,
- 58:20Speaker 11: you know, barring anything crazy. But then this weekend happened,
- 58:25Speaker 11: and not the fact that Rabel went to the Arizona
- 58:29Speaker 11: State Rode en route to the NFL Owners meetings, it
- 58:34Speaker 11: was the fact that they already had him in here
- 58:36Speaker 11: for a thirty visit and then he went out and
- 58:39Speaker 11: he got on the field with him and tested them,
- 58:41Speaker 11: and you know, was watching them practice and watching him
- 58:44Speaker 11: go through all the drills, and I might be turned around,
- 58:47Speaker 11: and I feel like, if he's there at thirty one,
- 58:51Speaker 11: he's going to be the pick, and I'll be the
- 58:53Speaker 11: first to admit I if he is, I'm happy because
- 58:58Speaker 11: to me, this what they've done so far in free agency,
- 59:01Speaker 11: getting Gilliam, getting the freaking kid I can't think of
- 59:05Speaker 11: the tight ends name for so Julian Hill. It kind
- 59:10Speaker 11: of spells to me like they're they're really making a commitment.
- 59:14Speaker 11: I'm protecting Drake May, which is great business. And Evan,
- 59:20Speaker 11: I think you've you've had this expression before, like unfortunately
- 59:24Speaker 11: like it doesn't work out with Brown, which I'm kind
- 59:28Speaker 11: of I'm on the fence either way. If it happens cool,
- 59:31Speaker 11: if not, whatever, you know, we might have to wait
- 59:34Speaker 11: another year to get that cherry on top, to get
- 59:36Speaker 11: that that Alpha wide receiver, which I'd be fine with.
- 59:38Speaker 11: But I mean, if if I, if I han Achour
- 59:41Speaker 11: is the pick, I'll be the first to say I
- 59:43Speaker 11: like it. I like the direction. And like I said,
- 59:47Speaker 11: just with Gilliam and Hill and you know, even Romeo
- 59:51Speaker 11: Dobbs being being a really good run block and wide receiver,
- 59:54Speaker 11: it seems to me like they're going to make They're
- 59:56Speaker 11: making a commitment to be a little bit more balanced
- 59:58Speaker 11: on offense. And really solidifying the death along the offensive line,
- 1:00:03Speaker 11: which which is great news that I mean, every every
- 1:00:06Speaker 11: fan should be happy. Let's just hope if Drake does
- 1:00:09Speaker 11: have like five to eight seconds to throw the ball,
- 1:00:11Speaker 11: that he has somebody, you know, somebody's able to get open.
- 1:00:14Speaker 11: And that's all I got for today.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Guys, Thanks pay thanks for the call. Good segue into
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: the the pro day workout, seeing and heard around the world.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I would say, you know, he kind of downplayed it
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: for Abel did when he was an interview with Patriots
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Unfiltered that's on YouTube, you can check that out and said,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: you know, I do that at every pro day, and
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: we were at BC's Pro Day. He was doing it
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: with the BC guys. That well, it's just different because
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: there he's a first round pick. That's true. I think
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: he was doing it with all. He does it with
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: a lot of guys. Not a lot of guys are
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: a first round pick that is slated to go like
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: almost exactly where they're picking. So that that's a big
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: reason why this one with each other on a chore
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: has caught so much. You know, steam here, which is
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: what's your opinion on ere slash were able going out
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: there to work them out. Yeah.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I've gone back and forth. Is he a real target
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: at thirty one? Is he a guy? Maybe if they
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: move back. I I've kind of come around to like, yeah,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: if you like him, you take me at thirty one.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I still like Blake Miller better, you know, if it's
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: me and they're both on the board at thirty one
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: and tackle is like, that's kind of the determination or
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: you just have him grated higher than any hedge rushers.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I'm going with Blake Miller, but I think he honor
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: is a solid prospect. The difference to me is he's
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: just not as ready, you know, a little later to football.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: His technique isn't as polished, but you have the time.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: I might feel a little more strongly about it if
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Morgan Moses wasn't here, but he is, so I think
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: he absolutely makes sense for them. I think he'd be
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: a fit. I think he'd help, you know, check off
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: a major box and if you do that at the
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: thirty one, at thirty first overall pick great. This is
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: so I'll give you the hypothetical I gave Matt Toff
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: yes in our podcast, and this is very rudimentary. I
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: understand this is not how players are actually graded, but
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: just for the sake of the exercise, Let's say, Patriot,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: you're sitting there at thirty one, right, just grading players
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: zero to one.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Hundred because it is the easiest way to do it.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Eighty out of one hundred tackle, seventy five out of
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: one hundred edge rusher. Who are you taking tackle about?
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Like seventy eight out of one hundred edge rusher? Eighty
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: out of one hundred tackle.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: I guess maybe an edge rusher. Now I'm taking the
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: better player.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Most This is kind of what I'm going I hear
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: what you're saying back and forth.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: On I think the biggest thing with the auditory mentioned
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: late later to football. Yeah, I think I have his
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: timeline correct now. He came over when he was thirteen,
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: I believe, from Nigeria to the States. When he came
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: over obviously like right in the high school range. Right
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: when he came over. He came over to play.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Basketball, Yeah, and he played some soccer too.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Originally, and he was on an AAU team. He just
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: kept growing, He just kept getting bigger. And his AAU
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: coach is actually the one that said have you ever
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: played American football? And was like no, never, Like don't
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: even know what that is, basically, and so they got
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: him to play American football. He actually didn't play American
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: football until JUCO, right, not even in high school, so
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: he has five years between JUCO and Arizona State of
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Football playing experience. I don't know Blake Miller's background, but
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: the fact that he started as a freshman at Clemson,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: at a power program like Clemson, tells me that he's
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: probably been playing football since he was like eight years old.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he was a I think four star recruit on
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: twenty four to seven.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: So definitely since high school, right, it probably further back.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: So Blake Miller is the more polished prospect, He's the
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: more pro ready pross.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: He's a three star, but he played high school.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: I think Blake Miller is going to be a guy
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: that's going to start for a team in his rookie season. Yeah,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: if not day one. Ianichor is in a little bit
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: more of a project. Now I get this question because
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: there was age ranges all over the internet. I'm going
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: with him being twenty two years old.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I've heard the same. I haven't gotten a birthday, so
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: maybe he's twenty three when the season starts. But that's
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: not that's average. It's not young, that's not old. Most
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: rookies are twenty two or twenty three years old. Twenty
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: one is where you start talking about a guy being young.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Twenty four is where you start to talk about a
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: guy being old.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Yeah, So, his movement skills, his athleticism, his ability to
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: pass protect, his range in pass protection. Obviously, his build.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: You know, he's chiseled out of clay to play tackle,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: arm length, all that good stuff, All that stuff is there.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: He's a ball of clay right now. The biggest issue
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: that he has in terms of his technique is his footwork.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: His footwork needs some work. You know, he steps underneath himself,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: he opens his hips early, he loses his leverage points
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: at times as he's moving laterally to get out to rushers.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: You know, he'll open up or open up the inside.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: He has a tendency to narrow his base, which usually
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: invites guys to bolt rush you. You know, when you
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: narrow your base, you get off balance and don't have
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: his good stopping power on bull rushes. So, to me,
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: a lot of this stuff is fixable, but it's a
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: lot of it is with his feet and his footwork.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: All this stuff. If you're sitting him behind Morgan Moses
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: for a year and you're having him learn the position
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: by his second year in the league, he should be
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: ready to start, right, So he might be ready to
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: start before then. Like I'm not saying ruling that out.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: I thought his tape against Texas Tech and David Bailey
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: and Romelo Height was really really Good's that's.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Why he's in the first round. Conversation, I think is
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: that game it shows the ceiling.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Yeah, he allowed two hurries against two guys that are
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: going to be playing on Sunday. Yeah, and David Bailey
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: is going to be a top five, top ten pick.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: So he did very well against those two. I mean,
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: they got him a couple of times, but for the
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: most part, he was really solid in that game and
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: pass protection particularly, So there's a lot to like about him.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: The other thing that with the tackle thing that we
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: talked about a little bit last week and and sort
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: of how I got to this conclusion with my friend
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: mock draft, is just the wide wide gap. Like we
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: are we're debating tight end. This is not debatable like
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: you're going tackle earlier, you're going tackle day three, And
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: there's really no in between at that position. You know,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: even the guy like crown Over a Bowery, we're still
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: talking about fringe top one hundred players there at tackle.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: So if you don't go tackle at thirty one, when
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: are you getting that developmental tackle? What are your expectations
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: of that tackle?
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Long term?
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: You're probably looking at drafting somebody the realistically that you
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: hope develops into a solid swing tackle in the NFL.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Ye not a starter.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: A couple guys that have like starter upside crown Over,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Bowerie Bell, but they're not It's not a guarantee, and
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: obviously nothing's guarantee, but they're a lot further away. You
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: mentioned the tackle gap, like this is the big question
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: to me. You use the consensus board, Ihana Chortz, player
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: thirty seven right now, we know he's probably gonna go
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: a little higheran that the next true tackle is crown
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Over at ninety four. We're not going to go sixty
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: out of tackle, Like how high? How soon after he
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: hanitar does the next tackle go right? And how much
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: does that shoot the rest of those guys up, Like again,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Bowerie Bell, that group. I know some people like Cage
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Casey from Boise State, Austin Barber from Florida, but especially
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Crown Over Bowery Bell, Like, I see people mocking those
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: guys in one twenty five, you get probably gonna take
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: those guys in ninety five if you want them, they're
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: gonna go. It's like the two years ago Kayden Wallace
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: was supposed to be whatever it was, like the tenth
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: tackle off the board. He was, but he went two
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: rounds before he was supposed to go because everybody just
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: started taking tackles. Yeah, I could see that happening again
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: this year. Just at you know, subtract whatever number you
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: see him projected at, you know, subtract twenty or subtract
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: around or whatever. Like that's more realistic.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: So the snag in all of this in terms of
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: and this is exactly the exercise I went through when
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: I put together my mock. The whole situation is like
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: do you need a wide receiver or not? Because if
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: you need the wide receiver, I think you need to
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: take a wide receiver with the first three picks at least,
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: but maybe the first two if you really want to
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: pick somebody that's gonna have an immediate impact, immediate impact,
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: And like if you pick one of the third round.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Even in a class like this, you're kind of just
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: double dipping a Kyle Williams.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: That's a rotational player.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Yeah, right, like you're you know, you're it's the same
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: thing you did last year with Kyle Williams. So if
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: you really want to get like that impact guy Boston Concepsion, Cooper,
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Junior Brazzle, if you are okay with Chris Bell's Medapris,
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: you know, those types of guys. I've started to really
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: kind of see it with Ted Hurst, like you know,
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: maybe ted Hurst is you know, a target at sixty three.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Potentially those types of guys are going to go early.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: So if you need the receiver, well, you can't draft
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: a receiver, edge and tackle with your first two picks
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: because we only have two picks. So you can't draft
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: three positions with two picks.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Unless you trade down.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Unless you trade there.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Now you're you know, you're risking missing players.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: So if you do, if you don't do tackle early
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: and you're doing it late, then you can go edge receiver.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: But if you feel like you need to take a
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: tackle this year that has a chance to play for
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: you early on in their rookie contract, then do you
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: kind of have to go tackle, and I feel like
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: the depth at edge rusher allows you to sort of
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: go tackle edge right. A wide receiver, I don't feel
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: as confident about that, Like I don't feel like you're
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: going to get a receiver at ninety five and I
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: feel great about like maybe you'll get like the stribbling tier. Yeah.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: I feel lot better at EDG nine receiver.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: I mean I feel better about edge of ninety five
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: than any position except maybe tight end.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: So that that's a difficult part about it is if
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: you don't go tackle early, you're probably not going tackle
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: this year in terms of really setting it and forgetting
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: it at a tackle spot right, And then you have
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: to figure out how you're going to allocate your resources elsewhere.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Let's get into Zach in New Hampshire. What's up Zach?
- 1:09:57Speaker 12: Hey, guys, thanks kick My call held into Unfiltered yesterday
- 1:10:01Speaker 12: and haven't been able to listen to it, So if
- 1:10:03Speaker 12: you already answered this question, you can just ignore me.
- 1:10:06Speaker 12: I was just wondering what would be your ideal role
- 1:10:09Speaker 12: for Kyle Williams this season? You know, what do you
- 1:10:12Speaker 12: think is realistic role and what's your ideal one? And then,
- 1:10:15Speaker 12: who would be your favorite player in the draft to
- 1:10:17Speaker 12: pair with Kyle Williams in the receiver room.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for the call, Zach. I think the realistic
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: goal for me, and this is realistic, not pie in
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: the sky. I kind of look at Kyle Williams in
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: sort of two different The floor of Kyle Williams to
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: me as a player is sort of like a Philip
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: dor Set type that has a trick. It's to get
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: down the field. He's pretty good at it. He can
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: kind of hold an NFL roster spot for a while
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: because of that. The ceiling is Brandon Cooks and where
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: he fits. Is he the floor? Is he in the middle,
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: is he the ceiling. I probably gravitate more towards middle
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: the floor at this point. I think it's hard to
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: see him go what he had ten catches last year,
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: twenty catches last year. To go from Matt to Brendan Cooks,
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: like seems like a pretty big leap. So I don't
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: know if you're necessarily drafting anybody to pair with Kyle
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Williams like, I don't think I view it that way.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: But in terms of where I view Kyle Williams, I
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: think Kyle Williams can be a NFL caliber field stretcher,
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: just like Philip dor said, he is a role. He's
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: a role.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: But I don't know that he's growing into like the
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: number one guy.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Right or I don't even number two, might not, might
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: not even be. That's the hope. Yeah, that's the hope.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: All right, let's get into the special team stuff. I
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: told you we could do it, so we're doing it.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Special team's roster. Resaid. We did offense and defense the
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: last two weeks. We'll round it out here the roster
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: of special teams because it's a phase of the game
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: and it matters.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Don't take to go ahead or.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: No, I got it. Kicker Andy Borregalis check one kicker,
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: they don't have any other kicker is good to go.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Is there an area of improvement that you feel like
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: he could work on this offseason because they're not. He's
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: the kicker.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: No, mean, he's pretty good. Like he had that little
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: bumpy start and then he was kind of rolling. I
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: know the game in Denver was just the conditions were ridiculous,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: So you can't work on that. Yeah, No, I feel
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: good about where they're out.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: A kicker, punter Bryce Behringer right now currently the only
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: punter on the roster. Is he going to be the
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: only punter on the roster in training camp? I have
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: my day I doubt it. Now.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: The question is do they draft somebody? And if they
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: draft somebody, I think even a two forty seven, Like,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: if you draft a punter, that's probably the guy. This
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: isn't a bad punter draft. There's not that like elite guy,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: but Brett Thorson, Tommy Doman, Jack Stonehouse, Ryan Eckley are
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: all like legit NFL caliber punters. It's just do they
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: draft a guy and I don't know that all those
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: guys will be drafted one or two of the might
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Do the draft a guy or do they go to
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: the UDFA and turn it into a real competition? Right,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: we even saw last year it wasn't It was a
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: real competition between Bort Allison and uh Sly, But like
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: it wasn't right, we get Ty goes to the draft
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: pick and blah blah blah whatever. That's That's what I'm wondering.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: That's what I'm going back and forth on. They're clearly
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: willing to draft these guys. They drafted a kicker and
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: a long snapper. So if they do that, I think
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: that tells you wherey're at with Bearinger. But he's coming
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: I think from a higher spot. He didn't have a
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: great year last year.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: They didn't, but.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: You know, Cardona, they hadn't moved on from him at
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: the time. It's pretty clear they were ready to move
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: on from him, like they needed a guy. And I
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: don't think Sly had the season that Sly wasn't as
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: ingrained as Bearinger is. So this is what I go
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: back and forth on. But I could day eleven picks.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: I could see them drafting a guy.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: They need to draft, not draft a guy they need
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: to bring in competition for Bearringer. It doesn't have to
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: be the draft. It could be a UDFA. Yeah, I'm
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: not saying that you have to draft a guy in
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: the fourth round and kick Behringer to the curb, but
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: I think they need to bring in competition. He did
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: not have a good year last year. There are are now,
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: you know, obviously, what do you use net average? Is
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: that your thing? Like what's your Yeah? Net average is
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: usually the classic one. There are some punter metrics out
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: there now that are some analytical type of stuff that
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: try to take a little bit of a deeper dive
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: on punting. He was down near the bottom of the league.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: And some of the metrics that I saw last year
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: just too many shanks. Like there are some good, really
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: good punts in there, there were some not so good ones. Uh,
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: the game in Denver, weird conditions. Marvin Mims is such
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: a big factor. Maybe they were trying to kick away
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: from Marvin Mims.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: No, but even before that wasn't great, wasn't so? Do
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: you want the little if there's a connection here?
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Sure?
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Jack Stonehouse, the punter from Syracuse. Yeah, his cousin is
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Ryan Stonehouse, who Mike Rabel had with the Titans. So
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: way that however you want, But there is a connection there.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Feels like you need some competition and that might mean
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: just the kind of kick. Give him a kick in
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: the butt.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, if it's open competition, and I don't know
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: what we'll have to meet. Mike Grease and Brian Hines
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: will have to find a way to chart that. It's
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: harder thinking, oh, we're not gonna get to run the hill.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I guess we'll still run over and check it, but
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: it's not gonna be the same.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Why would it be the.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: Same because we're not.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: It's not.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: There's something about it being a competition, especially when they
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: go back and forth.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: The guys are the worst. We have fun, I know
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: you do and too much.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: I don't say Mike Greece is the worst.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: I didn't say Mike is the worst.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: You say about me, say, I'll let you say about
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Brian Hines. You can't say about Mike Grease. Long snapper,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: they're good. They have two long snappers. Okay, I question
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: about that.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: That's my question. What's the heck?
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Why do they have Nico Lallos? Well, it might be
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: because this is what teams do. You keep the second
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: long snapper in camp so he's familiar with your system,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: you cut him. But then, like if you need a guy,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: they did this with uh Addington, they have an emergency guy, right,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: it is with Tucker Addington. Nico Lalos went what Ivy
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: League school do you go to?
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: Is it?
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Didn't you play defensive line? Yeah?
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: So he was an edge rusher and he entered the NFL.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: He went to Dartmouth.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Okay, uh.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: He entered the NFL as an edge rusher and spent
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: a couple of years as an edge Rusher mainly playing
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: in the preseason, but there was some like he was
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: a guy that would kind of pop in the in
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: the summer and be, well, okay, that's interesting, you know,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: maybe keeping around on the practic squad. And then a
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: couple of years ago he shifted to playing long snapper.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: I wonder if they brought him in to kick the
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: tires on him on the edge as a potential depth option.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: That'd make more sense than like I thought. I didn't
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: think of Ashby once last year, no, which tells me
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: that that means he did his job. Because if we're
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: talking about the long snapper, it's for a bad reason, right.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like I have
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: a stopwatch out to get the snap to hold to
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: what's that called the you know, the process operation time,
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: operation time down. I'm not doing that. But I'd never
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: noticed anything wrong with those snaps.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: They did this with Tucker Addington for years. You have
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: another guy in camp so that he gets familiar with
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: your operations, and then he cut him.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: But if if your long.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Snapper gets hurt, you know, you don't want to sign
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: a guy who's never snapped to your punter before. So
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: maybe it's just that I wonder if they're going to
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: kick the tires on him at edge. I'm very curious
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: about that.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Go to the returners. Yes, punt returner Marcus Marcus Jones
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: all pro. That's the tweet. Marcus j locked and loaded done.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: He is due.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: He is still due for a big one. I get
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: saying that durned the playoffs last year.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: He's due for a big return. He had the big
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: one against the Giants, right he returned one for the
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: House of the Giants, and he had one earlier in
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: the year two against had a couple good player.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: No and Fton Chisholm. If somebody gets hurt or pop thug,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: it's like they have options.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Good player kickoff returned like legit need Okay it is.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: We saw it last year starting with Debt Bill's game.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: The other teams could return kicks, the Patriots couldn't. It
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: made a difference some momentum plates of field position play.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: So that you want the difference between the best kick
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: off a turn team in the league last year in
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: the worst. Do you want to guess how many yards
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: it was?
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: I think it's like six six and a half. Okay,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: how many a half?
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: From one to thirty two, six and a half. Like,
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: I get what you're saying, but like, use a draft
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: pick on a kick returner. I mean, I guess so.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: And the average team they have four to six round picks,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: so if they if they take one of those spots
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: to draft a guy that can return kicks. I'm not
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: saying that.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: The average team returns four kicks per game. Okay, So
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: you're talking about a difference like thirty yards over the
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: course of the game, thirty yards and starting field position.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Would you rather Drake may starting at like the twenty
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: two or at the thirty five?
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: Well, it's not how it works. It's six and a
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: half yards per kickoff return. So like it's the difference
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: between them starting at the twenty five and then the
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: thirty one. That's a difference. Okay, it's a different over
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: the course. It's a difference. It's a difference. But we're
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: not like, you're not using a top one.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Thirty yards over the course of the game. That's three
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: first downs your offense doesn't have to get that they
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: would otherwise have to get.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: You're not using a top one fifty pick.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: On this, No, you're not unless you draft a guy
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: that can do both can do right?
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Is that ideal situation?
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: How does that factor into the evaluation of a player
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: like Casey conception you on right?
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: You want him to return kickoffs?
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: He's good at and ka. I guess it's different.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: I would not have him return kick off.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I want them to have a definitive kick returner. I
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: do that play matters. You saw how much the Bills
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: used it. Like if I'm willing to compliment the Bills
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: on something, you know what, I'm serious about.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: It, Like, I think it doesn't matter at all, No
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: matter as much as you do.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: There were multiple games that the Bills were out of
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: last year. They were dead in the water. This get
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: the game. Here the game against Tampa. They get two
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: big kick returns from Ray Davis and suddenly they were
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: back in it. I want them to have that kind
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: of juice. There are There is one true kick returner
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: in the draft. Like he doesn't play. He's listed as
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: a receiver. He I forget the exact numbers. He has
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: more career kick returns than he does receptions. His name's
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: Kayden Wetchin from Iowa.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: You've made you mentioned his name one hundred times because.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: You no The one I keep mentioning is barry On
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: Brown from LSU because I think he has like a
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: tiny bit of wide receiver upside. He was really good
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: as a freshman at Kentucky and then he just never
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: built on it. He had like six hundred yards last
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: year at LSU. He's a hell of a returner, and
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: I don't know what he gives you that Kyle Williams
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: or Pop Douglas don't. Probably more similar to Kyle Williams.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: So I don't know how big of a roller is
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: for him as a receiver, but something you can try
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: to tap into. I got four six round picks, man.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I want to see them have like a guy that's
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: a threat back there as.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: A returner, fair enough, but can we take a running
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: back that can also play running back? And it's just happened,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: like you know, I'm bringing up Adam Randall, but like
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: maybe they have another guy in mind. I'm not super
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: that can do something else besides just returning.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: I'm not super big on Kid and Wetchin for that
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: exact reason. I want the guy to have a little
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: more value. So that's that's what like barry On Brown
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: to me, you can at least play a little bit
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: of receiver.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: Okay, so just looking at their options on the roster
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: real quick. Yeah, Afton Chisholm did a little bit last
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: year that did not go so hat doesn't have a
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: speed for it. Kyle Williams did it, and I kinda
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: that one I'm more warming up to. Like, he obviously
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: has the straight line speed that if he hits a creasy,
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: he has the ability to do it. The more value,
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: the more things you can do, right, you know. I
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: think that he's one of those types of guys that
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: needs to find ways to get him on the field,
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: get the ball in his hands, simplify it for him.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: Last year they obviously used the third running back, whoever
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: was the third running back, whether it was Terrell Jennings,
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: the Ernest Johnson, Antonio Gibson early on in the season
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: as that Terrell Jennings is back, he's under contract, Land
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Larison's coming back as maybe has a little bit of
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: jews to do that. Not exactly a straight line speed
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: guy either, but has the vision the running back thing.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Like he's probably not a home run kickoff returner, but
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: he might be a guy that gets the thirty yard line,
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: you know, which is what this play kind of turned
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: into last year was like the first box he wanted
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: to check as a kickoff return unit was to get
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: the thirty yard line. Anything after that was kind of gravy.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: So those are the three guys that I look at
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: as options right now in house. And I will assume
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: that they're going to draft somebody that has a skill
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: set for it, even if it might be a receiver
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: or running back that's really developing as a receiver or
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: running back and secondarily has some kickoff return juice. Is that?
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: Can we agree to that?
- 1:22:25Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: I just want them to get somebody.
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough, Let's get to some more of these emails.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: The calls A five to five, PATS five hundred is
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: the hotline. We have some recency bias examples here players
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: here that we can get to as well. But I
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: want to read some of the emails because we have
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: a bunch of them. So last week we're talking about
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: wide receiver comparisons like pro comps. Yeah, and I said
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: that I was trying to find one for Jordan Tyson,
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: but never mentioned it. I never mentioned it because I
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: was trying to find one for Jordan Tyson. I have
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: I think tomorrow, I'm going to drop my wide receiver
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: rankings that I do every year. They all have comps.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: I worked tirelessly to find comps that fit all these players.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: The one I settled on for Jordan Tyson was a
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Marii Cooper. I feel like the way that he runs
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: routes is a lot like Amari Cooper. He's a six
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: foot two, two hundred and eight pound five pound route runner,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: Like he's not a physical down the field, contested catch
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: that type of thing. He's built kind of like that,
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: but he runs routes more like a smaller receiver. So
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: I've heard I settled on to Mari Cooper because Amari
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: Cooper played a decent amount on the outside. I've heard
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: some Keenan Allen, but I feel like Keenan Allen really
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: became a slot or is he as his career progressed.
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: Jordan Tyson kind of reminds me more of a Mariy
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: Cooper because he can play on the outside. I think
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: he can play a lot as an X on the outside.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: Where are you at with Jordan Tyson today? Because there's
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: another name that I feel like keep coming up and
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: people the board. It just keeps on sliding down. For
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Jordan Tyson, it feels like.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Again, it's just one of those things. It's like I
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: love him on the Patriots for his skill set, but
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: if he falls that far, what does that say about
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: where his health is? What does that say about how
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: his medicals are checking out? Like I don't want them
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: to take a guy that can't stay healthy, like you
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: worry about that. And he had the ACL tear freshman
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: year college, the broken collarbone now four different hamstring injuries
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: last year, Like that's not nothing. Usually I'm completely out
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: on those guys. So the fact I'm even thinking about it,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I know, and people are gonna be pissed if they
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: pass on him, But like is that I like him.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I think they should take him if he falls, but
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: I also get it if they don't.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: So Mike Rabel had to go both ways for him
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: in Tennessee. Right, Jeffrey Simmons was hurt in the draft
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: that he was drafted in and ended up being one
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: of the best players in Titan's history. Uh, Caleb Fairley,
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Caleb Fairly, Isaiah Wilson, Right, the Wilson. There was some
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: like off field stuff, but part of it was injuries.
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: Right, I think Caleb Fairly. But Caleb Fairly had like
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: a generative back injury. That's a lot scarier than hamstring
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: to me, ham strings, ham fair both ham strings.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: Back to me is like and Gronk, there's an exception
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: every rule.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: I'm just telling you the exception.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: The back stuff is always not great. Gronk was the exception,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: of course.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: So I have a thought on Gronk here in a
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: second that we're going to at the end, by the
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: end of the show. So he had to go both
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: ways for him, and ye see, he took an injury
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: risk with Jeffrey Simmons hit it out of the park.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: He took an injury risk with Caleb Fairley, and it
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: blew up very famously in his face. Right, So Jordan Tyson,
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: which one stung him? More? Right? Like? Which one impacted
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: Mike rabel Moore hitting on Jeffrey Simmons or having Calee
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: Fairly never basically never be healthy enough to play in
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: NFL season. We'll find out. But Tyson is in that
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: category I've heard career arc wise, some people have compared
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: him to Odell because, like Odell, had all the talent,
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: had some really good peak seasons, but just couldn't sustain it,
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: couldn't stay healthy, Like could that happen with Jordan Tyson?
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: Where every time he's healthy, he's one of the ten
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: best receivers in football. But he's only healthy every so often.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: You know That's what's a couple more wide receiver questions.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: This one's pretty straight up. Should they draft Denzel Boston
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: at thirty one? Where are you at right now? With
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Denzel Boston?
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Who else is there? I don't hate that idea, but
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I don't know that he'd be my favorite pick.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: I've warmed up to him this draft cycle. Not usually
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: don't have last week? Oh no, you were in last week.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: Not usually my type of guy.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: They're on the board at thirty one, Denzel Boston or
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: Chris Brassel. You have the call retaking man? Why do
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: you always do this because you change your answer every week?
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: You're right, Boston, I'm trying to be consistent. Ye, I
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: think Denzel Boston's who you say.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Last week you said DENI del Boston and then gave
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: all the reasons you wouldn't draft him.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: I know the zone profile scares me. That kind of
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: guy should be good against zone, like a six foot
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: three year receiver. Here's why he sucks. He's good at
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage, he's good at the catch point.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: He has the skill set. He's such a good fit
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: with Drake. He's not Keon Coleman, He's not Nikhil Harry.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: He's He's much more fluid, you know. I think the
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: archetype that he fits into the bust is Keon Coleman,
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Nikhil Harry, the ceiling is Drake London. Teed McMillan. Yeah,
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: I think Teed McMillan and Drake London are much better,
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: uh instinctively going over the middle of the field, finding
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: soft spots and zone coverages, much higher success rates against
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: zone coverage in their college careers, but their skill sets
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: are similar. I I looked at this because I I
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: wanted to kind of, you know, make sure I had
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: this right with Ted and Drake London. The act stuff
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: didn't hasn't necessarily translated all the way to the league.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: Like Ted McMillan wasn't a huge Ujiac thread now is
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: at the routes, the targets he's getting. Who knows, so
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: maybe Denzel Boston, I know everybody brings up that he
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: returned punts in college. Nikhil Harry did too. I don't
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: know what that means, but maybe Denzel Boston has the
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: chance to hit that Teed McMillan ceiling. But he's not
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: as good of a prospect as test. Yeah, so he's
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: somewhere in the middle. Right, which way in the middle
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: is he?
- 1:28:23Speaker 13: You know?
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: Is he on the higher end of that spectrum? Is
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: he the Keon Coleman end of the spectrum? Zachariah branch Out?
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: Am I wrong to think this is the emailer? Am
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: iron to think he's the third best receiver in the draft? Yes?
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: I don't want to say, like, I don't know you
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: view it how you view it.
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: I'd have to hear.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: The argument is a little bit strong. Fort of his
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: targets were behind the line of scrimmage.
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: Is that the number sounds right? It was a high number. Whatever.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: It was fast and.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: Oh fast, and you know Wakeley breaks tackles.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: But like he was like, what is his role in
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: an NFL offense besides gadget receiver?
- 1:29:06Speaker 14: Oh?
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: There isn't way he's a good gadget receiver?
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: Is he?
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: So the he's a good gadgets year, But he's nothing
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: more than that he's never gonna be like.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: To do the to do what I just did with
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Denzel Boston. Yeah, Ken Coleman's the floor, Uh, Ted McMillan
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: and Drake London at the ceiling. Yeah to me with
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: and look, let's put this out there. Floor could be
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: out of the league sure for any guy. I'm just
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: talking about a floor where he's an enfield player.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Last year, I don't know about career. Last year according
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: to PFF, fifty four percent fifty five all round up
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: fifty not short behind the line of scrimmage another screen,
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: twenty percent were short. He was only targeted twenty one times.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Did I just do that math right?
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: Twenty one times ten plus yards downfield.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: He's a screen merchant, no doubt about it. Uh right, floor,
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: mikol Harmon right where gadget player return guy? Maybe jet
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: sweep screens, motions, ceiling to me, realistically, is like Wandell Robinson,
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: Curtis Samuel Curtis Samuel maybe is in the middle there somewhere.
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: Wander Robinson just had a thousand. That's true.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: Ndo Robinson's held player. Wanda Robinson developed more as a
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: downfield guy like.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: That would that would be the next that would be
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: the iteration of Branch.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: How high do you want to draft a guy that
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: realistically is only going to play about thirty five to
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: forty percent of the time.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't see how. I don't see how his
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: role is any different than what Pop Douglas's role was
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: for this team last year.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: Well, Pop Dougs, you can send vertically. I wanted them
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: to do that more.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: They didn't do it.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, I'm I'm I'm out on Zach right
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: for the Patriots. I mean, if there's a team that
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: thinks they can sal it'll go to some Shanahan offense
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: and they'll find out ways to get creative with them.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: But kind of like Malik Washington with the Dolphins last Yeah,
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: that's another good comp This is from Ashton. What do
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: you think of Ted Hurst? I see him as a
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: grant option in the second round. I have warmed up
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: the Ted Hurst I watch a little bit yere when
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: I got more of his Georgia Southern film. Pretty hard
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: to find Georgia Southern film. It turns out got my
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: hand Georgia State. Excuse me? What conferences? That is?
- 1:31:12Speaker 9: That?
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: The that the fun belt?
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: I always get the tour. It was tough to find.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: I found some more. I I've come around on ted Hurst.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: I feel we'll do ceiling floor again the sun Belt.
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: I have kind of ceiling floor middle for him. Actually,
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: ceiling to me is like George Pickens, right that he's
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: that kind of player.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Middle athlete, really good at the catch point.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, middle maybe like Christian Watson. That's a little generous
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: for a middle. Do you think it's too much?
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: So, Jit, it's like a high middle.
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: So I ended up using Christian Watson because I feel
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: like Pickens is too much like that's okay, Pickens too good? No,
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: I I in terms of just overall comp I ended
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: up settling on Watson. You know, I will admit some
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: of the reason why I put Watson is because as
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: Watson went to North Dakota St. Georgia State, the jump
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: in competitions about the same as well. The floor for
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: that kind of player floor is tough.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Is the middle more like mvs?
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: So funny you say MVS for your boys stribbling. I
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: ended up using MVS that big. Yeah.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't realize he was. I thought he was
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: like in the one eighties too, Okay, I retracted.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: Similar, who was the who is this?
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I'm trying to think for hers, this is going back
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: years now. Who is the Steelers player? It was like tall,
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: lanky burner and they would only throwing goal balls.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: Yes, but Martamas Brian was destined for much bigger things
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: and then he had issues.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Marta, That's what it was.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, like Martavis Brian was going to be a hell
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: of a player.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he got popped for uh.
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: It was yeah. So so apparently this is funny. Apparently
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: Steve Smith Senior he does the breakdown, so he's actually
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: pretty good at it. Oh, I love it. He's great
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: And I say that like he's Steve Smith Senior. Of
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: course he knows what he's talking about.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: It not all great players, like they can't always project
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: that And he.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: Does his his comfort ted Hurst with Larry Fitzgerald.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: Yeah no, Well did you see Lances Alliance comp for
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Tenzel Boston Pooka.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I get what he's saying, and he.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Does it more stylistically than Ceiling. But I do think
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: that's funny in terms of the.
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: Catch points stuff. I get what he's saying. Puka is
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: such a better player with the ball.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: He had McBride for too yeah, too much. I don't
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: see Yeah. Stylistically that one, even for me is a
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: little bit no. I feel like Lance does a fantastic job,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: but great job to me is stylistically like he's better player.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: But like John Smith, I don't know what I got
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: to see yesterday on the radio and I said, think
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: of any tight end that played at least above average
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: for Arthur Smith.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good whoever? I know, because John Newsmith feels
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: like that's not a great ceiling if all he ends
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: up being is Johnny Smith's.
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: Like a faster Johnny Smith. He's got more speed. But
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: anyway to get back to it, ted Hurst.
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: I don't know what the floor is for that kind
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: of player. For ted Hurst, maybe like a DJ Shark
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: is Taekwon? Oh that's like bust floor though well Taekwon
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: in Kansas City, Kansas City, Taekwon I think is heavier
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: than Tygers.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Okay, So here's the bigger thing for me when we
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: bring up ted to think of that. And it's interesting
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: that you brought up Christian Watson in there, because I
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: think they're similar players.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: Sam similar range.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Ted Hurst or Bryce Lance ted Hurst, Bryce Lance to me,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: I think I go the same way. Bryce Lance to
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: me is it's.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: A little bit more of a one trick pony than
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: ted Hurst because I think ted Hurst has that catch
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: and run at the first level. Like ted Hurst can
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: catch a slant, he can catch a hitch and he
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: can turn that into a big play. I don't think
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Bryce Lance has quite that like gear and fluidity to him,
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: Bryce Lance, it is I got long strides, I'm gonna
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: eat up grass and I'm gonna get over the top
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: of comp. Djhark was my Brice Lance comp. Because I
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: feel like it's one trick He's probably gonna be pretty
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: good at it. If you put him in that role
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: where he's just running win sprints on the outside, he's
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: gonna get by the defense enough to have an NFL career, right, Like,
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: It's just that's the way that he's gonna work.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna have a middle for ted Hurst. Okay, the
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: little guy's a little smaller, But.
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: You think you think Watson's too good. Yeah, Nelson Agor
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: he's probably smaller like Nelson.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Aga body type. But Nelson A was sneaky at the
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: catch point. Remember he had that one in Pittsburgh when
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: he was here.
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: He did that was probably his best player as a Patriot. Yeah,
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: all right, I'll give you a couple of others that
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: because I sometimes I go on mock draftable and I
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: just look at measurements and try to sort of see
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: if that will like jog my brain. Cedric Tillman, the
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: failed Tennessee receiver. He's in the league. Uh, if you failed,
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: is probably little strong Dante Thornton Junior, another Tennessee guy
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: that is just kind of a size speed guy. Those
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: types of players.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I think are still on the rounds.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: I think that's probably what you're looking at in terms
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: of four. All right, let's get back to these phone
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: calls here, got people calling in. Eldred is in North Carolina.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: What's up, Eldred?
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: Heyell'll do good? Hey Man, I love you on the
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: Mother podcast too, but i'd give you a good comfort.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: Ted Hurst pet Bears fish Bird.
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: Oh it's not a bad one.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: I don't remember Plexico Burst well enough. I remember him,
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: but not in that much detail.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: But I wish I could go back into the memory
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: banks a little bit better, Eldrick, because this it opens
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: your it broadens your library of players to compare people to.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: But you can go back a little while. You know,
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: bat Plexico Burris is a good one.
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sixty full, I've been watching football.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: I didn't mean to call you old, but that's a
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: good one.
- 1:36:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: But but my question is this. I know, if they
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: go thirty one with a cap who ain't gonna play
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: till the following year, to me, that's the way that's
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: not a luxury because you're not at that point yet.
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: You know, if they don't get aj Brown, you know,
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: and then you got thirty one. My boy moved up
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: to twenty nine, from forty four to twenty nine on
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: the board's that's brasled But Ted Hurst, you get him
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: in the fourth fifth round if they if you chance
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: to do that. But I can't understand why just go
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: I heard what he said. You don't draft for need,
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: but right now this team is in a position to
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: draft for need. We're not in no luxury draft yet
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: because you ain't got all the all the situations feel
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: to replace the next person once they get old or whatever,
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: you know. So I just can't understand why everybody wants
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: perception on You got all them guys already on the field.
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: You know, if anything i't to put the receiver we
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: got last year. Him and Pop plays slot, so they
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: got to speed and find that big outside to open
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: it up. And you also got dobs so to play
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: the Z so you be saying from and then you
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: also got Booty, but Matt got to go.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: That's why I look at it.
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: And I take it off the air.
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks are. I've been on Eldrid's side all off season.
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: I don't think they're in a position yet to be
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: taking stash players in the first round.
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: I think how hard it is to find a tackle
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: makes that one position exception.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: I wouldn't do it anywhere else. To me, what makes
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: the exception is AJ Brown. Like, if you're telling me
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: that AJ Brown is going to be a Patriot by August,
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: then it just changes the entire complexion of how I
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: view it. Sure, if they don't have AJ Brown, and
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: I think edge and playmaker needs to be at the
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: top of the list, and I put pay it could
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: be a tight end, right, so I put playmaker, tight
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: end or wide receiver. That needs to be your first
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: two picks in my opinion, if you're if AJ Brown
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: is not in the cards, but because AJ Brown is
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: potentially on that back burner. You can take the tackle
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: early and take an edge in the second round. Trade
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: for a twenty twenty seven pick for AJ Brown, and
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: you're right where you need it to be. You know,
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: to start with. If you're not getting a J. Brown,
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: I think you need to take a receiver early. That's
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: just I don't know how else you go about it.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Evan is in Colorado. Good name, Evan, what's up?
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: What's up?
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: Guys?
- 1:39:15Speaker 14: I've been listening to show since day one, never missed
- 1:39:19Speaker 14: a week. I actually have a drinking game that I
- 1:39:21Speaker 14: use with my coffee for things that you guys say.
- 1:39:23Speaker 14: For example, Alis, whenever you say have you seen his
- 1:39:27Speaker 14: twenty twenty four teape? Whenever you say spend whatever you say,
- 1:39:31Speaker 14: spinning the dial.
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:39:33Speaker 14: But my question is this. Look, I'm a huge fan
- 1:39:37Speaker 14: of Christian Dolls. I don't want him off the team,
- 1:39:39Speaker 14: but I think we have a history of knowing when
- 1:39:42Speaker 14: cornerbacks are at their peak in terms of value. J. C.
- 1:39:46Speaker 14: Jackson Tamble, what would you say if the Cowboys call
- 1:39:50Speaker 14: offer their two first round picks this year and next
- 1:39:53Speaker 14: year's first would you take it for Christian Bells?
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's a lot. Thanks for the call, Evan.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: I love that idea that he has. Though drinking, I
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: don't think we advocate for drinking, so let's show us
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: on it noon on a Wednesday. Let's call it coffee.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: I like that better. But send in if you did
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: have a drinking game for catch twenty two, what would
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: it be? Because I want to see, like, yeah, right,
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: like I want to see what our our quirks are, right,
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: because you know, I'm all for constructive criticism. Maybe I
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: say something too much and I need to stop doing it,
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: so send it away. I'm curious now, I'm now I'm
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: invested in this. Back to the football. What were used
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: to just saying, yeah, you got me confused. That's how
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: I met your mother. Reference to first this year and
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: a first, that's a lot. That's a lot.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: That's a lot to turn down. I love Christian sauce,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: but that's that's nuts.
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: I don't think that's happening now. Yeah, first this year,
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: in the first next year in separate drafts. Yeah, I
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: still probably wouldn't do that. I wouldn't do that. I'm
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: not saying I do it. I just say that's more risk.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: That's this more realistic I think about it.
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: That's basically what Sauce went for, right right, all right,
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: a couple more things I want to do before we
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: wrap up the show. I do want to talk briefly. Today.
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: Is the Patriots Hall of Fame Committee meeting. Yes, so
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: there's I believe twenty three people and one of ours.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: Are you allowed to say this?
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: I think so?
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: I don't know if it was like, well, we talked
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: about it yesterday on People you did, okay.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: I didn't know if it was like a secret board.
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: One of ours, you know, like getting good fellas, when
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: Joe Peschi is gonna get made.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: This is not a good example of the US. Don't
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: forget what happens to Joe Peschi.
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: It doesn't work out good for him at all. That's
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: why it's kind of funny, right. No, one of ours,
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: Alex is now on the inside. And that is one
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: Mike Deuce do So who is now on the Hall
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: of Fame Committee. The committee. Oh yeah, so they don't
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: count there. They've been on it for years. One of
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: ours is now in there. I hope I'm not talking
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: to the phone booth like de Niro and you know,
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: throwing a fit in an hour when we get off
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: the show and do comes back. I'm very happy for
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: my guy though. That's it's pretty cool. No, that's awesome
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: to be in that room, be in that community, uh,
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: and get to vote on this. That being said, you
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: get three spots to nominate. The nomination then goes to
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: the fan vote, and the fans vote on who goes in.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: That's the process, So you can nominate anybody. So a
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: lot of the old timers will come in and they'll nominate,
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: like Mosy Totupu and like some of the guys from
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: back in the day. Obviously there's a lot of guys
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: from the dynasty that still need to go in. This
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: is the first year of eligibility for one Rob Gronkowski.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: I think he will written in a runaway, just like
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: Julian Lemman did last year. The Edelman Vinitari one was
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: a little bit close relatively speaking, I expect Gronkowski to
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: get like ninety plus percent of the vote. That being said,
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: Gronk and Vinaria locks to be the next two. There
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: were locks to be on the back three people on
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: the ballot, So who would be your third couple of candidates?
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Wes Welker Logan Mankins gets on it every year and
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: never gets in. One of the old timers. You know,
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: if there's anybody like that that you have.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: I mean, Mankins would be one for me. You mentioned
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Wes Welker. I'm gonna keep saying this. It's an unpopular take,
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: but I don't care. And I'm not saying it happened
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: this year. It shouldn't happen before Gronk Organitary or maybe
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: some of these other guys.
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: I want Randy.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: Moss to get a red jacket, I do. I know
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: he wants only here very short for a very short time.
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: That didn't end well.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: I look at the reception he got at the Brady thing.
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: I know, but he is a Purists are going to
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: have a tough time.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: He is a part of Patriot's history. He is a
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: staple part of the history of this franchise. I'm not
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: saying he has to get in this year. I would
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: put Randy Maws in. I also don't know.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: Scar and Scar got in. He got he got put
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: in by mister Kraft.
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: Oh so yeah, So there's that contributors thing too. There is,
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: but that's not that's not part of this. Can we
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: get Ivan Fearson.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: Fears good one. I've also, you know, advocated on the
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: shows for Ernie obviously at some point getting in.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: Oh that's true, But isn't he on the committee? How
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: does that work?
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: Yeah? Well yeah, so Scar right, Dante usually comes to
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: coach Scarr usually comes to Uh. I would say, the
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: only other one. Only other thing though with that is
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: like don't you kind of have to put Bill in
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: before Ernie and like then Bill goes in, then you
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: can put Ernie in? Like does that order matter? Like
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: that Bill isn't quite in yet, Like Bill's gonna go
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: in at some point.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Yeah, well, what it's five years, right, Ernie left before No,
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: it's just four years.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: Ernie left before Bill. It's four years. I don't know
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: if the contributor category matters in terms of that, but.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: If I guess, if you want to have that argument,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: I'll just say, is Ernie's last year was twenty twenty
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: or twenty one the Trade Nickson draft, so twenty so
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: we left in twenty twenty one.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: Right April twenty one. Yeah, I think the twenty one
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: draft was Bill.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: Was here for two years, so like chronologically, No, I
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: don't think that's unfair to put like obviously Bills the
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: most deserving person.
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: Right, but Bill, we'll go mister Kraft will put Billy.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: That's going to be its own thing.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: That's gonna be that's a separated esque. So the contributed one,
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: Ivan fears Ernie stand out for me. Uh, Nancy, she's
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: not in right, No, she's not in yet. She's gonna
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: get in that.
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: That will be another one that mister Craft does on
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: his own.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: Why I would think all of these are that contributor?
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: Yes, so I so that one's backing up to, Yeah,
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: miss Nancy is retiring this she so she's not going
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: to be on this one. I don't think so I
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: should not have to wait, I don't she was. She
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: was involved with the combine because remember Elliott Wolf's gave
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: her the shout out. So I don't know if she's
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: working through the draft and then uh, one of the
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: best careers honestly in Patriots history. I don't know if
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: she's calling it a career after the draft, but for
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: right now, I think she's still technically working.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: Okay, So that's I'm just thinking, like contributor, there's that one.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: But in terms of players, I mean, Gronk's clearly next
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: Vinitaries clearly after him, and then the next to them
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: hot On Macans, Moss, Welker Welker, Moss and what it's
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: either both or neither to me. We got to be
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: getting there with Devon, right, So Devon's next year, Uh yeah,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: he probably gets in before those guys too.
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: So this is the issue that you run into with
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: all these things.
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: And then when's high Tower, probably the.
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: Year after Devon or maybe similar. This is the issue
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: that you have with all these guys, Yeah, is that
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: you create when you start jumping the line. And I'm
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: not advocating if there's anything wrong with that, because Gronk
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: and Edelman are so deserving, yeah that there's nothing wrong
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: with it. But when you and then obviously Brady went
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: in his year too, so that year got washed out.
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: When you start jumping the line like this, what happens
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: is that guys start to slip through the cracks like
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: an Adam Vinentary. It took Mike Rabel a really long
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: time to get his red jacket. Logan Magans is besides
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: John Hannah is probably the second best offensive lineman and
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: team they can't get him in.
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: So hang on, it's retirement from the league. Right, not
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: leaving the Patriots correct in its four years.
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: So Gronk and.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: High Tower both played the same final year was twenty one,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: So High Tower's eligible this year, so that should be
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: the third guy.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: That's weird because I have only heard people talking about
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: Gronk being first year eligible. So maybe I have something wrong.
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: I don't know. I thought it was four because I believe.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: The High Tower didn't officially retire and he did the
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: thing where like he was a free agent for a year.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: Maybe that's what it is.
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: So maybe maybe he has to wait another year.
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: But like because they want to try to the Hall
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame I believe is.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: Five, right, so they want to use it to bluster guys, right, right, right,
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: So which is a good good use of it?
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: Yea.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: If High Tower is eligible, he logan mikel was a
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: great player.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: I Q was eligible, I'm sure we would have he's
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: the third guy.
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's just tough because.
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Maybe it is really nothing against Devon.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: Maybe it is recy bias.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: Who's more deserving Devon or Minitarry Vinitary? So maybe I
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: do too.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: But Vinitary, I mean the dynasty start.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: And so put him in. So like so he put
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: him in, and then Devin and High Tower.
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: And you get in, you're starting to get into like
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: the Matthew Slaters. You know, David Andrews, David Andrews, h
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: James White will be coming up. And you know, Logan
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: Mankins was still sitting on the ballot. Uh. You know,
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: there are a lot of people in the room that
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: covered the teams back then that really advocate for Chuck Fairbanks,
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: who was like the first like coach to kind of
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: put relevancy. It's sort of like NFL Medal behind the Patriots. Uh,
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: Chung gets in maybe if it's no offense, but like
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: maybe once we get through like the Gronx, the Edelman.
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: We're trying to think of the like second Super Bowl
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: run Staples because it's the Cordy, it's High Tower, it's White,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: it's Gronk.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: Obviously. Yeah, my guess is I don't know.
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: Joe Toney probably he's not even retired yet. Joe Touney
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: probably wasn't here long enough.
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: Those types of guys, you know, Logan Mankins among them.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: Three rings.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Logan Mankins, I feel like we'll have his time because yes,
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: again I'll disrespect anybody, but eventually you're gonna kind of
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: run out of like the Gronks, right, that are just
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: like first ballot slam dunk kind of guys. And that's
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: when you'll sort of circle the wagons back around to
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: Mancins and those types of.
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: I don't want that to happen with Vinitari though, No,
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: it should have with Vanitari. It shouldn't happen with mccordy,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: and it shouldn't happen with High Tower. Who I'm trying
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: to think who else from those teams?
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: The other the only other guy from Dynasty two point
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: zero And it wasn't a long time, but Stefan Gilmore
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: won a Super Bowl, won a defensive Player of the
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: Yeah Atriots, very good Patriots career. Uh, but it wasn't
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: a long time. That's what's seventeen eighteen nineteen. Yeah, but
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: he was the best corner in football for a period
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: of time while he was here. Yeah, so very good play.
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm if I'm gonna say Randy Moss
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: should be and I can't, you got to put Gilmore
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: in if Moss.
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: Is going to be in.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: So that kind of handcuffs me.
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: Wes Welker should be in.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: He's the franchise all time leading receiver.
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: Right it's him or Stanley Morgan. I forget what I
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: think he might have catches, Morgan has yards. He should
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: be in. I know he didn't win the Super Bowl.
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: I know that the catch. Everybody holds the drop against him. Yeah,
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: bad throw, but everybody holds the drop against him. The
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: stats in the in the period of time that he
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: did him in are off the charts good. I mean
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: the production that he had over a five or six
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: year period was absolutely insane. He was the best player
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: at his position for a period of time. You know,
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: slot receiver specifically, he should be in. It might take
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: a while, you know, the Super Bowl chance might get
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: in first, you know, the GRONKX, the Attleman's, the High Towers, mccordy's, uh,
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: But eventually Wes Welkers.
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: I've got two more. I just pulled up the all
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: twenty tens team to see who I was missing. One
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: is this. I think we didn't mention him. We Slater obviously.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: I mentioned he is coming up.
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I got another one for you. I think you're
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: gonna hate this. He is the franchisees all time leading scorer. Yeah,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: not for a Vinitary by any means.
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: I talked to Paul and Fred about that one data there.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: I don't want to put words in their mouth, but
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: they've been a little bit reluctant on good. Gaskowskis he
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: didn't really have the clutch kicks the Vinitary has true.
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: The playoff performance wasn't necessarily great. He missed a couple
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: of kicks in Super Bowls. Yeah, but he is the
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: franchise all the time leading score.
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: Let me ask you one more while we're on this,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: and this is a ways down the road. Yeah, but
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: I'm just thinking because you mentioned, like you know, they're
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: going to run out of Super Bowl guys, and that
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: kind of implies, maybe unfairly like there's nobody twenty nineteen
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: or on that's going to get in. And you know,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: we hope Drake may way way way down the road
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: for twenty years from now. If I if there's one
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: guy that kind of gets in the mix, for hey,
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: before we get to all the Super Bowl guys, we
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: should get this guy in relatively quickly.
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: Hunter Henry trending towards like, I don't know, it's such.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: As one more good season.
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: I think it's hard because that position in franchise history
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: is so historically good, like Francis Coats grunk House.
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: So I would almost argue that that's why he gets in.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Might be the best position other than quarterback because we
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: have the greatest quarterback of all time. I think tight
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: end is probably, pound for pound, the best position group
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: in Patriots history.
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: Oh, I mean absolutely so, But that he's not trying
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: to pull up the stats.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: He's not on a gronk Ben Coates. I did not
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: old enough for Russ Francis, so not on that level.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: In terms of receptions all time by a tight end
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: for the Patriots, he's third. I didn't realize that he's
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: fourth in yards. He's probably going to pass Russ Francis
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: this year. He's like two hundred blind Rus Francis.
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: But he's only going to have realistic and he's going
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: to pass Russ Francis in touchdowns. Okay, he's gonna do
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: a different era. To be fair, this is going.
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: To be a sixth season in New England. He's gonna play.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: He's probably gonna play.
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: It's amazing that he's been here for six years, you know.
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: And let's say Hypothetically he plays one more year after this,
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: he could get to one hundred games. He'd be the third,
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: sorry fourth Patriots tight end in history with one hundred
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: games played in franchise. He's gonna be top three interceptions.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: He's gonna be top three touchdowns. The only guys ahead
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: of him are Rob Gronkowski first ballot Hall of Famer
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: and Ben Coates significant Hall of Fame stuff. Ben Coates
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: was the second best tight end of the nineties behind Sharp.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: So I don't know, I think you make a case
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: for it.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: I didn't realize that the case that he's his stats
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: were that ship. So I didn't realize it's a different era.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: I remember like when because he passed Francis and catches
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: this past year, and I was like, oh, and yeah,
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: he's going to pass assuming he stays healthy. He's so
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: Francis had thirty one hundred yards. He'son twenty nine hundred.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: So he's two hundred yards away from Francis and he's
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: two touchdowns behind Francis.
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: I didn't realize that. It's impressive.
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: Yeah, there, if he maybe not right now, one or
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: two more years, there's a case for it. Went you know,
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: was a leading one of the leading receivers on a
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: team that went to a Super Bowl.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe when maybe they win one, and you know
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: if they if they win one, absolutely yeah, if they
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: win one, I don't think there's a debate.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: He absolutely deserves a red jacket. Well that's kind of
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: one thing working against him right now, is he played
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: on some bad teams.
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: I'm sure tomorrow and Patriots unfiltered, we will get the
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: low down of what went down, all right, in the media.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: You're not supposed to, like really talk about I don't.
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: I think it's it's not quite fight club like it's
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: you're allowed to talk a little bit about it, But
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: I don't think it's supposed to be I get that
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: an open book either. Let's take Randy's call and then
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: we'll wrap the show up. What's up, Randy, how are
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: we doing?
- 1:54:37Speaker 12: Hey?
- 1:54:38Speaker 6: Just real quick for you guys, because you guys are
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: running down the wide receivers there. But he didn't mention
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: Jacobe Lane, and I feel like he's probably the best
- 1:54:45Speaker 6: bit in the right range for what we need. And
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: like you look at the six' four two hundred ten
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: and a half inch, hands the four four seven, forty
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: which is solid for a dude that's six four and
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: the one five, eight ten yard, split forty in vertical
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: jump like production in, college multiple touchdown. Games there were
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: games out there that he looked better Than lemon in my.
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: Opinion SO i just want to know what you guys
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: feel about feel like about?
- 1:55:12Speaker 9: That?
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: Again LIKE i, said you guys mentioned, everybody all the
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: tall wide receivers EXCEPT i feel like him And. Fields
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: i'm not as big a fan Of, fields But, LANE
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: i feel like he could really fit what we need
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: and maybe be available around ninety. Five what do you guys?
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: Think, yeah thanks for the, Call. RANDY i would say With,
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: LANE i believe the number is thirty three percent of
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: his targets were. Contested is this on this thing you texted? Me?
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: YES i, did AND i think it was the highest
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: out of. Anybody it was like, Him Surrat, Malachai fields
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: were like the three highest. Guys so the player that you,
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: KNOW i think the forty time With, lane it doesn't
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: necessarily translate for me into actual. Separation he's going to
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: win in the red Zon He's.
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: Yeah thirty three percent of his contestant of his targets
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: were contested and he caught less than fifty percent of.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: Them the next closest player Was elijahter out of twenty.
- 1:56:08Speaker 7: Eight.
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: Yeah so a guy that wears. Coverage, yeah slant winner
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: in breaking you, know slant. Winner you can use his,
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: frame kind of win across people's. Face he's going to
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: win in the red. ZONE i think he's going to
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: be a viable red zone. Shy BUT i don't know
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: If i'm as high on him as As randy is
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: because of the separation. Issues like he ran this four to.
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: Four it kind of reminds me remember When Jaden higgins
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: ran like a four to four out of, nowhere and
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: it's like he doesn't play like. That it kind of
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: reminds me of.
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: That so the four four, seven, yeah.
- 1:56:40Speaker 2: Which is STILL i thought he was going to be
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: like a.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: Four, no he's a four. Five he seems like a
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: four or five. Guy, yeah to, me he's a he's
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: a rotational. Player he's you, know you're gonna put him
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: in the red. Zone you're gonna put him in try
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: to hunt matchups against smaller corners to win jump. Balls
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: BUT i don't think he's like a full time. Guy you.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: Know if they so kind of similar range in the,
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: draft for where the projections are right now him are stribling, Stribling,
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: Yeah AND i think you, know if it comes down
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: to one of those two, guys it's that, right and
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: then there's some smaller guys in that. Range Brendan, thompson
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: WHO i think you actually like just so.
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: Fast he is very. FAST i mean like.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: He he is the definition of the fast and.
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: Guy he literally made sec secondaries look slow and if
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: you're if you're doing, that like there are reps where
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: he would just take off and he would just run
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: through the entire. Defense now it was like he was
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: running one hundred meter because nobody touched, him, Right but
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: like it, was it was can you be fast and?
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: Fast that's BASICALLY i.
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: Think sometimes you have time speed, guys Yeah, taekwon and
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: then you have actual fast. GUYS i Think thompson's. BOTH
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: i Think thompson's fast on tape and he's fast in the.
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: Forties he's fast and he's football.
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: Fast but he's just. Tiny he's very he's five to.
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: Six he could be. Quicker, yeah it's a lot of straight. Lines, Yeah,
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: no he's a full on go ball Specially.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: Uh Jamire bird is THAT i Think jamir bird was
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: even a little. Bit and that's kind of.
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: The two two At. Wells The Calvin austin.
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: My guy for. THAT i always go To Devin Tompkins den,
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: TIME i Thought Devin tompkins is gonna be stud just
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: because he was so fast and like this was early
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: early draft. BARTH i was, like, oh but, yeah he's
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: like one hundred and fifty. Pounds he can't play every.
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: Snap oh you want my two recncy biased guys before
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: we wrap the show? Up two offensive. Linemen it? DID
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: i did offensive. LINEMAN i really hammered home get to
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: the offensive. Line and two guys THAT i just think
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: are nasty malers that just finished blocks really. Well Travis
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: burg From memphis to tackle they met with, him, Right,
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: yeah six eight six nine three and twenty pounds is
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: the mammoth of a. Dude he's gonna have all sorts
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: of trouble blocking speed off the edge in the pass.
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: Rush that's gonna be his big. Problem but my, god
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: does he puts some dudes in the ground like he
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: can absolutely finish. Guys the guy That i'm actually really
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: more excited, about, Though, Uh, jeremiah right, NOW i knew
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: you were gonna say that crazy the guard From auburn
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: fourth round, Projection like if you want a draft mic
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: Oneplace mike. Went he mashes people though in in the
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: sec LIKE i was watching him Put georgia defensive linemen
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: on the ground like that does not happen very. Often
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: he can, pull he can move the line of scrimmage
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: on base, box duo, blocks all that good kind of.
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: STUFF i, mean my, god is that dude? Me and
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: now he can't pass protect, yet and that's gonna be
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: his biggest. Issue you, know he gets a little bit
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: herkeey jerky in space and stiff and slow with his
- 1:59:25Speaker 2: feet in. Space but if you are just looking for
- 1:59:28Speaker 2: a gap scheme guard that's gonna get on a double
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: team and it's gonna move, bodies then that's your. Guy. Jeremia,
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: right two guys they've met with.
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: My recency biased. Guy this is more of a comeback around,
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: thing where LIKE i knew about him AND i liked,
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: him and THEN i kind of lost track of him
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: BECAUSE i was starting to learn all the other. Linebackers
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: but THEN i went back around him today Because Matt
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: dolf had him in his mock. Draft we talked last
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: week About Kyle lewis About Harold perkins some of these,
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: undersized very athletic. Linebackers Deontay lawson From alabama deserves to
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: be in that.
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: CONVERSATION i, KNOW i don't know why he's a good.
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: Player perkins is a freak one OF i think it's
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: like thirteen players to be named a multi time Captain
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: albey something like, that like good locker room guy too
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: fringed off one hundred. Pick but don't don't forget About Deante.
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: Lawson he's kind of. Forgotten god's a good way to put.
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: It he's kind of been under discussed in this linebacker,
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: class and that's not.
- 2:00:16Speaker 2: Fair, okay we got to, go But jay called in
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: And i'm gonna give him two. Seconds jay got to be, quick, Though.
- 2:00:23Speaker 15: Thanks for taking a. Call he really did want to
- 2:00:25Speaker 15: piggyback off your recently buy there the tackle From. Memphis
- 2:00:29Speaker 15: if you had to choose between him Or MARK. L
- 2:00:31Speaker 15: bell for just a, development developmental, guy who would be
- 2:00:34Speaker 15: the long term.
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: To back up faith Most, yeah good, Question. JAY i
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: would probably Go, bell just BECAUSE i think the pass
- 2:00:40Speaker 2: protection has a little bit more upside. There i'm really worried, about,
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: uh the kid From memphis being able to bend and
- 2:00:47Speaker 2: get his hands on pass. RUSHERS i, think like those,
- 2:00:49Speaker 2: speedy bendy guys off the, edge, right it's gonna be
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: dicey for. Him. BELL i think there's more upside there
- 2:00:56Speaker 2: in terms of him being able to have range and
- 2:00:59Speaker 2: move his feet in pass. Protection but that's a good
- 2:01:01Speaker 2: question because those are the two guys that, day three
- 2:01:03Speaker 2: guys that you're going to kind of have in a cluster.
- 2:01:05Speaker 2: SOMEWHERE i Did burke, though man is a mean. Sob,
- 2:01:09Speaker 2: yeah there's something to be said for. That after the,
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: whistle he's like ten yards down the field putting guys
