- 0:06This is the Sacramento Brief, your weekday roundup
- 0:09of overnight headlines and what's ahead across
- 0:12the city. I'm Carol. It's Thursday, August 13th,
- 0:172026. Let's get you caught up. Sacramento police
- 0:21are investigating a shooting that sent officers
- 0:23to the 3900 block of 23rd Avenue shortly after
- 0:265 p .m. yesterday. Officers responded to... Reports
- 0:30of gunfire and found evidence of the shooting,
- 0:32but the suspect or suspects had already fled
- 0:35the area. No injuries were reported. Police have
- 0:39not released any additional information about
- 0:41what may have led up to the shooting. And a carjacking
- 0:44Tuesday evening ended with an arrest, but not
- 0:46before a police chase. Officers responded to
- 0:49the 5900 block of Freeport Boulevard shortly
- 0:52before 7 p .m. Police attempted to stop the vehicle,
- 0:55but the driver refused to yield. The pursuit
- 0:58finally ended after officers successfully deployed
- 1:01stop sticks and the suspect was detained and
- 1:05arrested. Meanwhile, a GPS ankle monitor helped
- 1:09prosecutors make their case against a repeated
- 1:11offender now facing the possibility of life in
- 1:14prison. A Sacramento County jury convicted Sandra
- 1:17Alvina Martinez of three robberies committed
- 1:20in September and October of 2024. The first happened
- 1:25at a 7 -Eleven on Watt Avenue. Prosecutors say
- 1:27Martinez was found the following day in the same
- 1:30vehicle with the same mask, T -shirt, and gloves
- 1:33used during the robbery. And there was one more
- 1:36problem. Martinez was wearing a GPS ankle monitor,
- 1:40which prosecutors say placed him at the 7 -Eleven
- 1:43around the time of the crime. Martinez later
- 1:46robbed a donut shop on Del Paso Boulevard and
- 1:49then returned to the same shop and robbed another
- 1:52victim while pointing a firearm. The jury convicted
- 1:56Martinez on all three robbery counts and found
- 1:59a firearm allegation and two prior strike convictions
- 2:02for carjacking to be true. Martinez faces 85
- 2:06years to life when sentenced on October 30th.
