- 0:22Speaker 1: Evangeline Bush. Robin Hood and allen adele come listen to me,
- 0:31Speaker 1: you gallant, so free, all you that love mirth, for
- 0:34Speaker 1: to hear, and I will tell you of a bold
- 0:37Speaker 1: outlaw that lived in Nottinghamshire. As robin Hood in the
- 0:43Speaker 1: forest stood all under the greenwood tree, there he was
- 0:47Speaker 1: aware of a brave young man, as fine as fine
- 0:51Speaker 1: might be. The youngster was clad in scarlet, red in scarlet,
- 0:56Speaker 1: fine and gay, and heated frisket over the plain, enchaunted
- 1:01Speaker 1: a round delay as robin Hood next morning stood amongst
- 1:06Speaker 1: the leaves, so gay there did he a spy. The
- 1:10Speaker 1: same young man come drooping along the way. The scarlet
- 1:14Speaker 1: he wore the day before it was clean cast away,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and at every step he fetched a sigh alas and
- 1:23Speaker 1: well a day. Then step forth brave little John and Midge,
- 1:28Speaker 1: the miller's son, which made the young man bend his
- 1:32Speaker 1: bow when he saw them come stand off, stand off,
- 1:37Speaker 1: the young man said, what is your will with me?
- 1:40Speaker 1: You must come before our master straight under young greenwood tree.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And when he came, bowled Robin before Robin asked him courteously, Oh,
- 1:52Speaker 1: hast thou any money to spare for my merry men
- 1:56Speaker 1: and me? I have no money, the young man said,
- 2:00Speaker 1: but five shillings and a ring, and that I have
- 2:04Speaker 1: kept the seven long years to have At my wedding yesterday,
- 2:09Speaker 1: I should have married a maid, but she was from
- 2:12Speaker 1: me tain and chosen to be an old knight's delight,
- 2:16Speaker 1: whereby my poor heart is slain. What is thy name,
- 2:21Speaker 1: then said Robin Hood. Come tell me without any fail
- 2:26Speaker 1: by the faith of my body, then said the young
- 2:29Speaker 1: man my name. It is allan a dale. What wilt
- 2:35Speaker 1: thou give me, said Robin Hood, in ready gold or
- 2:39Speaker 1: fee to help thee to thy true love again and
- 2:43Speaker 1: deliver her unto thee. I have no money than quoth
- 2:48Speaker 1: the young man, in ready gold nor fee, But I
- 2:52Speaker 1: will swear upon a book, thy true servant, for to
- 2:56Speaker 1: be how many miles is it to thy true love?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Come tell me without guile, by the faith of my body,
- 3:06Speaker 1: then said the young man. It is but five little mile.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Then Robin he hasted over the plain. He did neither
- 3:15Speaker 1: stint nor lynn until he came unto the church where
- 3:20Speaker 1: Allan should keep his weddin. What dost thou hear? The
- 3:24Speaker 1: bishop then said, I prithee, Now tell unto me. I
- 3:29Speaker 1: am a bold harper, quoth Robin Hood, and the best
- 3:33Speaker 1: in the north country. Oh welcome, O, welcome the bishop.
- 3:38Speaker 1: He said that music best pleaseth me. You shall have
- 3:43Speaker 1: no music, said Robin Hood. Till the bride and bridegroom
- 3:47Speaker 1: I see with that came in a wealthy knight, which
- 3:52Speaker 1: was both grave and old, and after him a finnchan
- 3:56Speaker 1: lass did shine like the glistering gold. This is not
- 4:02Speaker 1: a fit match, quoth Robin Hood, that you do seem
- 4:05Speaker 1: to make here. For since we are come into the church,
- 4:10Speaker 1: the bride shall choose her own deer. Then Robin Hood
- 4:14Speaker 1: put his horn to his mouth and blew blast two
- 4:18Speaker 1: or three. When four and twenty yeomen bold came leaping
- 4:23Speaker 1: over the lee. And when they came into the church yard,
- 4:27Speaker 1: marching all in a row, the first man was Allan
- 4:31Speaker 1: Adale to give Bold Robin his bow. This is thy
- 4:36Speaker 1: true love, Robin, he said, young Allan, as I hear say,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and you shall be married this same time before we
- 4:46Speaker 1: deep heart away. That shall not be The bishop cried,
- 4:51Speaker 1: for thy word shall not stand. They shall be three
- 4:55Speaker 1: times asked in the church, as the law is of
- 4:59Speaker 1: our land. Robin Hood pulled off the bishop's coat and
- 5:04Speaker 1: put it upon little John. By the faith of my body,
- 5:08Speaker 1: then Robin said, this cloth doth make thee a man.
- 5:13Speaker 1: When Little John went into the choir, the people began
- 5:17Speaker 1: to laugh. He asked them seven times into church, lest
- 5:22Speaker 1: three times should not be enough. Who gives me this maid?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Said little John, quoth robin Hood, that do I, And
- 5:33Speaker 1: he that takes her from allen Adale, full dearly he
- 5:37Speaker 1: shall buy. And then, having ended this merry wedding, the
- 5:41Speaker 1: bride looked like a queen. And so they returned to
- 5:45Speaker 1: the merry greenwood amongst the leaves so green. Author unknown.
