- 0:16Speaker 2: you'll get some polling evanisms, because we's all you got today, folks,
- 0:20Speaker 2: for your Tuesday edition to Patriots Unfiltered. Here from Jillette
- 0:24Speaker 2: Stadium a ka Boston Stadium for at least one more night.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Ev one of.
- 0:31Speaker 3: The games of the tournament.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Absolutely tremendous World Cup drama right here in Foxborough last night. Yeah.
- 0:38Speaker 2: You being the soccer officionado, I'm gonna let you take
- 0:41Speaker 2: it away.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, one of the bigger upsets in the
- 0:44Speaker 4: tournament in quite some time. I mean, I don't know
- 0:48Speaker 4: how you feel about upsets, Paul, early on, it's the
- 0:51Speaker 4: same thing with March Madness.
- 0:54Speaker 3: When they happen, they're great.
- 0:56Speaker 4: But when you get all these powerhouses that get upset,
- 1:00Speaker 4: then the later rounds can sometimes get a little bit.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Like, I don't know if I really want to watch
- 1:05Speaker 3: Paraguay again.
- 1:06Speaker 4: It was great in the moment that they pulled off
- 1:08Speaker 4: an upset I know what you mean, but then you know,
- 1:10Speaker 4: advancing further, I think it would be different. But yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 4: I just a tremendous parking of the bus by Paraguay
- 1:17Speaker 4: last night, That's what I would call it, when you
- 1:21Speaker 4: were basically just playing not to give up a goal.
- 1:24Speaker 2: That's so it was another one of those that if
- 1:27Speaker 2: I talked about I didn't see the game. I was
- 1:30Speaker 2: out and I was listening actually on the radio as
- 1:33Speaker 2: people were sort of talking about it as I was
- 1:35Speaker 2: driving home, just because I knew the implications of a
- 1:38Speaker 2: team like Germany going out in such a fashion. But
- 1:43Speaker 2: so if I had watched this game, and I would
- 1:45Speaker 2: have said something like that, like that's why I don't
- 1:47Speaker 2: like it when you can play like that and survive.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And then so this is I think this is another
- 1:53Speaker 2: reason for the soccer people to hate me.
- 1:54Speaker 4: So Germany, I believe, finished with almost seventy five percent
- 1:58Speaker 4: percent possession. It's unbelievable for the game, and they just
- 2:02Speaker 4: couldn't crack Paraguayzed defense.
- 2:04Speaker 3: They couldn't get inside and.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Get in into attacking position, so they they dominated the
- 2:10Speaker 4: game by the numbers. They This is like one of
- 2:13Speaker 4: those games where a team like doubles up another in yardage,
- 2:16Speaker 4: but somehow loses the game at the end in a
- 2:18Speaker 4: football game. But this is one of the pros and cons.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I you know, I had a lot of talk about
- 2:23Speaker 4: pks over the last twenty four hours because there's two
- 2:26Speaker 4: penalty shootouts yesterday, and I love it. I think the
- 2:29Speaker 4: drama is fantastic, but this is one of the drawbacks.
- 2:32Speaker 4: It comes down to kind of a there's.
- 2:34Speaker 2: No arguing the drama. Yeah, I mean, it's incredible theater
- 2:37Speaker 2: to watch those unfold and the pressure that it's on both.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Can't I can't even imagine the.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Goalkeeper and the the attacking plate, you know, the guy
- 2:46Speaker 2: that's taking the kick. Unbelievable pressure with the whole country. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: you know every four years that it really is incredible drama.
- 2:56Speaker 2: My issue isn't so much like that's the rule, like
- 2:59Speaker 2: that's that's how you sided. I know every time they
- 3:01Speaker 2: come down to this. It happens the same way in hockey, like,
- 3:04Speaker 2: oh it's three on three overtime, that's no way to
- 3:07Speaker 2: It's fine, it's the same.
- 3:09Speaker 3: They've been playing for two hours.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's the same for both teams. So both teams have
- 3:13Speaker 2: the same amount of chances to win, and I understand
- 3:16Speaker 2: all that. What I don't really understand, and we won't
- 3:20Speaker 2: turn this into a World Cup show, I promise, just
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, we have dut one more game here, one
- 3:25Speaker 2: of the quarterfinals, will be here on July ninth. So
- 3:29Speaker 2: what's that a week from Thursday. Yeah, that'll be the
- 3:33Speaker 2: final game that will take place here in Foxborough. So
- 3:37Speaker 2: we're putting the raps on what has been I think
- 3:40Speaker 2: truly exceptional. A couple of weeks of just great sports,
- 3:47Speaker 2: great great people watching, great enthusiasm, great vibes all around
- 3:52Speaker 2: the country and you know, in Mexico and in Canada
- 3:55Speaker 2: as well. So I think North America has done a
- 3:58Speaker 2: great job, you know, with the World Cup itself. I
- 4:02Speaker 2: don't like the fact that the other game that went
- 4:05Speaker 2: to penalty kicks Morocco in the Netherlands. Yeah would to me,
- 4:11Speaker 2: it's like the equivalent of Duke in North Carolina playing
- 4:13Speaker 2: in the first round of the NCAA tournament. How did
- 4:15Speaker 2: the sixth and seventh best teams in the world, Yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 2: face off against each other in the round of thirty two,
- 4:21Speaker 2: He says. The ignorant guy who doesn't know anything about
- 4:23Speaker 2: the World Cup.
- 4:24Speaker 4: I think that there's probably a number of different ways
- 4:27Speaker 4: that we ended up here, but the biggest one is
- 4:30Speaker 4: that the US, Canada, and Mexico are given priority in
- 4:35Speaker 4: the pool when they picked the pool to sort out
- 4:38Speaker 4: the groups, they're given priority as host nation. So even
- 4:42Speaker 4: though they're not.
- 4:43Speaker 2: The problem with that, right I do so problem with.
- 4:46Speaker 4: That that I think is it ends up pushing everybody
- 4:50Speaker 4: else down. So that has a trickle down effect when
- 4:53Speaker 4: the host nation is not a powerhouse, when it's not
- 4:56Speaker 4: in France or Germany or England or something like that,
- 5:00Speaker 4: and you have teams like especially Canada, but US and
- 5:03Speaker 4: Canada I would say, and Mexico even to an extent
- 5:06Speaker 4: that aren't top five, top ten teams in the in
- 5:10Speaker 4: the world. That has that kind of impact. So the
- 5:14Speaker 4: way the bracket is set up now, you could argue
- 5:17Speaker 4: that they need to do a better job of not
- 5:19Speaker 4: having such a fixed bracket based off of you know,
- 5:23Speaker 4: the winner of this group plays this group and that
- 5:25Speaker 4: group plays that group, so all this is predetermined going
- 5:28Speaker 4: into the tournament.
- 5:29Speaker 2: No, I understand seating and all that. I just it
- 5:32Speaker 2: would be hard for me to imagine teams of that
- 5:35Speaker 2: caliber facing off that early in a regular seated tournament.
- 5:39Speaker 2: So yeah, that's part of it is that automatically you
- 5:42Speaker 2: get three different nations that probably got seated higher than
- 5:46Speaker 2: they needed to be, right, certainly in Canada and the
- 5:48Speaker 2: US's situation. I'm not really as up to speed on Mexico's.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But in Mexico that's unfortunate because I think both of
- 5:55Speaker 2: those teams are really good. Morocco is coming off what
- 5:59Speaker 2: a final four fe in the Last World yep, right,
- 6:01Speaker 2: so these I think people might look at Morocco and say, oh,
- 6:05Speaker 2: that was a huge upset. No, they were actually the
- 6:06Speaker 2: higher rated team. Yeah, I think they were six. In
- 6:09Speaker 2: Netherlands was seven, So I think it's a shame that
- 6:12Speaker 2: one of those had to go home so early. But
- 6:15Speaker 2: like I said, I think it's been tremendous theater to watch.
- 6:18Speaker 2: The drama in those pks is is palpable and you
- 6:22Speaker 2: can feel it right through your TV as you're watching.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I mean, I can't.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I think the only football equivalent is probably like a
- 6:28Speaker 4: field goal kicker taking a field goal where you're down.
- 6:31Speaker 2: By down too and you make it, you win, you
- 6:35Speaker 2: miss it, you lose.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Right, and that sort of thing. I just trying to
- 6:39Speaker 4: when I was watching it yesterday. It is putting myself
- 6:41Speaker 4: in those shoes, like, oh my god, like the nerves
- 6:44Speaker 4: and the pressure.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It's like the Baltimore kicker, the rookie. There is a loop.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Tyler Luke May he missed that kick on the last
- 6:50Speaker 2: player of the game against Pittsburgh. He makes it, they win,
- 6:53Speaker 2: you know the division, they go in the playoffs. He
- 6:54Speaker 2: misses it and they're out of the playoffs. John Harbaugh
- 6:57Speaker 2: has fired and yeah, you know, like that's the that are,
- 7:00Speaker 2: you know, And it's even greater because it's only every
- 7:03Speaker 2: four years for the World Cup. So yeah, I mean
- 7:06Speaker 2: it's been fun. It's been fun to watch, and I
- 7:08Speaker 2: think it's been very well received, I would say by
- 7:12Speaker 2: the ignorant Americans.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yes, I think right.
- 7:14Speaker 4: People are starting to get get chippy on Twitter Paul
- 7:19Speaker 4: about this because the ignorant Americans are making suggestions of
- 7:23Speaker 4: how to possibly change the game or make the game better,
- 7:26Speaker 4: and the die hard soccer fans football fans are like,
- 7:30Speaker 4: you know, stay out of our stay out of our game.
- 7:32Speaker 3: You know, you don't know what you're talking about.
- 7:34Speaker 2: So I don't like that.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I don't like the gatekeeper.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I'll close the loop with this because I've gotten a
- 7:39Speaker 2: few of those. And it's not even that I want
- 7:41Speaker 2: to make suggestions, but like, and this is I speak
- 7:47Speaker 2: often with a broad brush. I understand that this is
- 7:49Speaker 2: there's no such thing as one hundred percent to zero percent.
- 7:52Speaker 2: So not everybody feels this way. I do feel like
- 7:55Speaker 2: a lot of soccer passionate soccer people feel this way.
- 8:00Speaker 2: And that is we want everybody to embrace the game.
- 8:04Speaker 2: We want everybody to think of it the way we
- 8:05Speaker 2: think of it, that it's the greatest game, the beautiful game,
- 8:08Speaker 2: and you know all the strategy and the execution that
- 8:12Speaker 2: goes into it. And then you get upset when people
- 8:16Speaker 2: like me that are very casual and watch don't see
- 8:19Speaker 2: it that way and look for and I made this
- 8:23Speaker 2: observation earlier. It's like, gotta be careful what you wish
- 8:27Speaker 2: for so you get more eyeballs on it. And then
- 8:29Speaker 2: you get people to watch other sports, right, and they
- 8:33Speaker 2: know what they're entertained by, and they're like, you know
- 8:36Speaker 2: what could make this better. An adjustment to the off
- 8:38Speaker 2: side rule. You know what could make this better. Don't
- 8:41Speaker 2: have your sixth and seventh best teams in the world
- 8:43Speaker 2: face off in the round of thirty two. They don't
- 8:45Speaker 2: want suggestions from the ignorant. No, I'll say me, I
- 8:49Speaker 2: won't paint any more broadbrush than that. I'll just for myself.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I've gotten some some people, And to be honest, nobody
- 8:57Speaker 2: really pushing like no one being means bird about it.
- 9:00Speaker 2: But people's sort of man's planning man's planning soccer to me.
- 9:04Speaker 2: And I keep trying to say, like, listen, I don't
- 9:07Speaker 2: not under It's not a lack of understanding of what
- 9:10Speaker 2: you're talking about. It's me not looking at it the
- 9:13Speaker 2: same way as you. Yeah, Like I don't find the
- 9:15Speaker 2: entertainment in the seven past before something happens, it's not
- 9:19Speaker 2: really all that entertaining. Like you said, Paraguay just sits
- 9:23Speaker 2: there and plays Katie by the door the whole second
- 9:25Speaker 2: half and waits for pks and hopes and praise that
- 9:28Speaker 2: they can come out of the shootout. Yeah, ahead, Like
- 9:32Speaker 2: I don't find that fascinating. Yeah, I mean now that
- 9:34Speaker 2: the shootout itself, the penalty kicks, the pks, those are
- 9:37Speaker 2: those are very fascinating. But yeah, you know, the ninety
- 9:41Speaker 2: minutes plus to get there is not the same for me.
- 9:44Speaker 4: So to be fair to Paraguay, because I did say
- 9:46Speaker 4: that about Paraguay, but to be fair to Paraguay, when
- 9:48Speaker 4: you play such a favorite like Germany, it's kind of
- 9:51Speaker 4: the only way you can win, right If you open
- 9:53Speaker 4: up the game in Germany. You're not gonna run with Germany,
- 9:56Speaker 4: right Germany, all of a sudden, you're going back and
- 9:59Speaker 4: forth and you open up the game, Uh, Germany is
- 10:02Speaker 4: gonna score more goals than you in that, in an
- 10:04Speaker 4: open game like that, so packing it in is kind
- 10:06Speaker 4: of your only thing. I think the one thing I
- 10:08Speaker 4: would say to the OG soccer fans is that American
- 10:12Speaker 4: sports have always been open to rule changes and things
- 10:18Speaker 4: to make the sport better. And I'm not saying that
- 10:20Speaker 4: that that were better than you. I'm just saying that
- 10:22Speaker 4: that they've always been open to it, and for the
- 10:25Speaker 4: vast majority of my lifetime, a lot of those rule
- 10:28Speaker 4: changes have really done good and really worked.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So I'm look look at the transformation baseball with dramatic
- 10:34Speaker 2: changes baseball.
- 10:36Speaker 4: I think baseball is the best example too, because of
- 10:38Speaker 4: how regional baseball is and how every kid in America
- 10:42Speaker 4: played a little league at some point, just like every
- 10:44Speaker 4: kid overseas played soccer at some point.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Uh.
- 10:47Speaker 4: You know, baseball did wholesale changes to the pace of
- 10:50Speaker 4: play and different things like that, and it saved the game.
- 10:53Speaker 2: It saved the game.
- 10:55Speaker 4: So I don't I'm not saying that soccer needs any changing.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I'm just saying, don't be so closed off to these
- 11:03Speaker 4: tweaks maybe actually helping make the game better. You know,
- 11:07Speaker 4: the introduction of var I think is a little bit controversial,
- 11:11Speaker 4: but in a lot of ways people think that that
- 11:13Speaker 4: improved the game or hurt the game or whatever. But
- 11:15Speaker 4: that was a change, that was a significant change that
- 11:18Speaker 4: they went on. The off side thing is a is
- 11:20Speaker 4: a different thing.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought boss Man Freddy Kirsch was wasting that line.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You see him a little bit talking about offside. I
- 11:28Speaker 2: was I'm not in Freddy's DM, so I don't know
- 11:31Speaker 2: what kind of blowback he was getting, but I'll bet
- 11:32Speaker 2: he was getting some.
- 11:33Speaker 4: So I think the biggest pushback that you hear from
- 11:36Speaker 4: soccer people about he basically proposed hockey off sides, where
- 11:39Speaker 4: there's like a there's a zone right, and once you
- 11:41Speaker 4: enter the zone, then everybody is as long as everybody
- 11:44Speaker 4: enters the zone on side, right, then everybody is on side,
- 11:47Speaker 4: and there's no more offside. I think the biggest thing
- 11:50Speaker 4: that I hear that against that is that the players
- 11:53Speaker 4: are just gonna stand in front of the goal, like
- 11:55Speaker 4: you're just gonna have like the whole defense is just
- 11:58Speaker 4: gonna be standing in the goal mouth and basically there's
- 12:02Speaker 4: no they're going to pack it in and there's not
- 12:04Speaker 4: going to be a way to score, right because if
- 12:06Speaker 4: you're if you're taking away like a high line of
- 12:09Speaker 4: off side, then they're just gonna stand in the six
- 12:12Speaker 4: yard box and prevent you from getting any closer.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And it's a similar complaint that I have in hockey,
- 12:16Speaker 2: like when you see these goals get disallowed by like
- 12:19Speaker 2: a micro inches, you know, a shoelaces is offside, and
- 12:24Speaker 2: you know, like it didn't really impact the play. And
- 12:27Speaker 2: I think that maybe they could be a little less picky,
- 12:29Speaker 2: But I'm not going to get into the you know,
- 12:32Speaker 2: they need to overhaul the rules of the sport, because
- 12:35Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not looking for that smoke.
- 12:37Speaker 4: It's interesting because it's like it's kind of like in football,
- 12:40Speaker 4: you know, we have off side and and false starts
- 12:42Speaker 4: and things like that. It sets the structure of the game, right,
- 12:46Speaker 4: It sets like the the structure of the game. So
- 12:49Speaker 4: if you don't have it, then the structure completely changes
- 12:52Speaker 4: in the shape of the game completely changes. The one
- 12:55Speaker 4: thing that I would be interested in to hear about,
- 12:57Speaker 4: you know more from people that know more than me.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Once the ball is in the box and it's touched
- 13:03Speaker 4: in the box. I see so many goals that a
- 13:06Speaker 4: guy there's this crazy sequence where it hits off three guys,
- 13:10Speaker 4: hits off the goal, he hits off another guy and
- 13:12Speaker 4: the guy taps it in and it's a goal, but
- 13:14Speaker 4: that player is deemed offside. And I wonder if, like,
- 13:18Speaker 4: once the ball is touched inside the box by another player,
- 13:21Speaker 4: if maybe we can say, you know, no more offside
- 13:25Speaker 4: on the on the deflection, because so many goals I
- 13:29Speaker 4: feel like get disallowed because some crazy bounce happens. There's
- 13:32Speaker 4: no way that the guy could know that the ball
- 13:34Speaker 4: is going to bounce right now.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I would totally agree. I would totally agree. I think
- 13:38Speaker 2: there's room to alter things. But again I'm not I'm
- 13:41Speaker 2: not getting into them because I got there. I'm not
- 13:43Speaker 2: as well versed in it is is people that watch
- 13:46Speaker 2: the game more passionately than I do, So I don't
- 13:49Speaker 2: I don't tell people how they should have shouldn't enjoy that.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I like the PK shut up. I hope it never can.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's unbelievably tense, and you can
- 13:58Speaker 2: feel that tension just when you're watching it, even if
- 14:01Speaker 2: you have no, like no vested interest, like I don't
- 14:03Speaker 2: have really any vested interest in any of these games.
- 14:05Speaker 4: And just knowing how much these people care, yes about
- 14:08Speaker 4: the World Cup in particular, and just how you have
- 14:12Speaker 4: the weight of the nation. And I was talking to
- 14:15Speaker 4: just just played some goalie in her day. She played it,
- 14:18Speaker 4: you know, out in the field as well. But it's
- 14:20Speaker 4: definitely harder to be the penalty taker than the goalie.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Like the goalie is not expected to make the safe, right,
- 14:26Speaker 4: So if you made expectation things right, if you make
- 14:28Speaker 4: a single save in a penalty shootout, you did your job.
- 14:32Speaker 4: So yesterday when with the Germany one, they had that
- 14:35Speaker 4: final the fifth round, right, he stopped the one stopped,
- 14:40Speaker 4: and both her and I looked at each other's like,
- 14:42Speaker 4: that's the best goalie in the world, Like that guy
- 14:44Speaker 4: was not. There was no way he was going to
- 14:46Speaker 4: let them score on that one. Obviously didn't get the
- 14:48Speaker 4: next one, but just incredible, incredible drama.
- 14:52Speaker 2: All right, So as we close out June here on
- 14:55Speaker 2: Pigeot's Unfiltered and again you can get us at eight
- 14:58Speaker 2: five five Pats five hundred. I sep already lining up
- 15:01Speaker 2: to probably make fun of us for leading with soccer
- 15:04Speaker 2: emails at podcasts at Patriots dot com. But Evan and I,
- 15:08Speaker 2: you know, we sort of talked a little bit about
- 15:10Speaker 2: you want to transition this. You know, we understand what's
- 15:13Speaker 2: Patriots unfiltered, so we will talk Patriots. But I did
- 15:17Speaker 2: think that you know, sort of talking about the the
- 15:19Speaker 2: update in the the knockout stage of the World Cup
- 15:22Speaker 2: was was worth given a few minutes too. So we
- 15:24Speaker 2: did a couple of things came out over the weekend,
- 15:27Speaker 2: not really any Patriots news, but NFL wise a couple
- 15:33Speaker 2: of things on ESPN dot com that that caught my eye.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Bill Barnwell had his ranking of the skill positions. It's
- 15:41Speaker 2: it's wide receivers, tight ends, running backs yep, so not
- 15:44Speaker 2: necessarily counting the quarterback, just sort of the the weapons,
- 15:48Speaker 2: if you will. Patriots tenth in that category, which may
- 15:52Speaker 2: seem a little off to some, but they were thirtieth
- 15:57Speaker 2: a year ago, you know, so they clearly have upgraded
- 16:02Speaker 2: the roster with Aj Brown and Romeo Dobbs, even with
- 16:05Speaker 2: the loss of Stefan Diggs. But I just I know
- 16:09Speaker 2: you had a chance of to look at that list.
- 16:12Speaker 2: What were your thoughts on their rundown.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Pretty crazy that just to watch just in Drake May's career,
- 16:20Speaker 4: his rookie year, I think they were thirty first in
- 16:22Speaker 4: these rankings at Barnwell. He does them every year, so
- 16:25Speaker 4: I think it's a good baseline of you know, it's
- 16:27Speaker 4: the same guy grading it every single year. His rookie
- 16:30Speaker 4: season they were thirty one. Going into the twenty twenty
- 16:33Speaker 4: five season, they were thirtieth, like you said, and then
- 16:36Speaker 4: this year they're all the way up to ten. Now
- 16:38Speaker 4: maybe that's a little bit of course correction because last
- 16:40Speaker 4: year they clearly were not the thirtieth. You know, great group,
- 16:44Speaker 4: skill group once the season progressed, but just a remarkable
- 16:49Speaker 4: roster improvement year over year to the point now where
- 16:52Speaker 4: you're giving Drake made a fully viable set of weapons.
- 16:57Speaker 4: You know, as a nerd, I would like the offensive
- 17:00Speaker 4: line to be included in these, but it's not. But
- 17:02Speaker 4: that's I think it's impressive just in terms of looking
- 17:06Speaker 4: at it at from a roster building perspective. You know,
- 17:08Speaker 4: Barnwell mentioned the receivering receiver overhaul. He also mentioned the
- 17:14Speaker 4: two running backs Fromandra Stevenson and Trevion Henderson being a
- 17:17Speaker 4: good platoon. He didn't even Mention Hunter Henry, who's probably
- 17:20Speaker 4: still a top ten receiving tight end in football, just
- 17:24Speaker 4: based off the production. So they they've really done a
- 17:28Speaker 4: lot of good work.
- 17:29Speaker 2: And improvation and just he gives you a little bit
- 17:31Speaker 2: of history. And twenty twenty four rank was ten, yeah,
- 17:35Speaker 2: and then in twenty twenty five, even with the addition
- 17:37Speaker 2: of digs, it dropped all the way down to thirty.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:41Speaker 2: So let's hope that it's not prophetic because they thought
- 17:45Speaker 2: a group that was really not very good was tenth.
- 17:48Speaker 3: They thought he got in twenty four it was ten.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And twenty twenty four rank was ten, twenty five ranks
- 17:53Speaker 2: thirty something, twenty five last year was rank thirty going
- 17:57Speaker 2: into the season. All right, so now they are back
- 18:00Speaker 2: to ten. Yeah, and you know, much of the stuff
- 18:04Speaker 2: that you know, Evan talked about it, but you know,
- 18:06Speaker 2: I'm just reading right here from Barnwell. There's a drop
- 18:09Speaker 2: off from Brown to the rest of the lineup. The
- 18:11Speaker 2: Patriots are much deeper than they have been in years,
- 18:14Speaker 2: adding Dobbs to the mix. As a twenty six year
- 18:17Speaker 2: old wide ranked twenty eighth in ESPN's receiver Scool last season,
- 18:20Speaker 2: there's a possibility that he improves with more regular playing time,
- 18:23Speaker 2: which I think we all sort of are on board with.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And then I think the key to his high ranking
- 18:29Speaker 2: for the Patriots skill guys is the depth you know,
- 18:31Speaker 2: Mac Collins, Douglas, Booty Williams. Even if Booty goes, he
- 18:35Speaker 2: and he does qualify Booty's inclusion there, but he says,
- 18:39Speaker 2: as it stands, while this isn't the best wide receiver
- 18:42Speaker 2: room in the league, it might be the deepest, albeit
- 18:46Speaker 2: one in which may likely elevated talent and receiving efficiency
- 18:49Speaker 2: across the board last season. And then he gets to
- 18:51Speaker 2: the point that you made about the running back. So
- 18:54Speaker 2: you know, Bill Barnwell is a pretty in depth guy.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So I think that's a pretty solid ranking top ten.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Some people not happy with that, not high enough. Some
- 19:04Speaker 2: people don't think it's high enough. And we had an email,
- 19:07Speaker 2: an older email here from from Doug in New Hampshire.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I think this came in last week, and I'm not
- 19:13Speaker 2: sure if Fred read this, but he was talking about
- 19:17Speaker 2: Eldred when he called in about Robert Robert Mayses and
- 19:22Speaker 2: and they had him being seventh or eighth best in
- 19:25Speaker 2: the AFC, which he thought was a bit disrespectful to
- 19:28Speaker 2: McDaniels because he thought like teams like the Chargers and
- 19:31Speaker 2: the Jaguars were above them. So I think, you know,
- 19:37Speaker 2: you get another one from another source on you know,
- 19:40Speaker 2: at Barnwell kind of looking at it the same way.
- 19:44Speaker 4: So I think it all depends on doesn't it all
- 19:46Speaker 4: depend on what you think A J.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Brown has left in the tank.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, And everybody seems to be pretty confident that AJ
- 19:52Speaker 2: Brown will not be the problem. They all seem to
- 19:55Speaker 2: think that he's going to bounce back. He's got May
- 19:59Speaker 2: instead of Jalen Hurts. And he Bonwell is actually cute
- 20:06Speaker 2: in this. He actually puts Brown comma twenty eight, Yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 2: comma like, well he's twenty nine today, right, I mean,
- 20:11Speaker 2: I mean he wrote this, you know, this week, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 2: so clearly he's trying to paint a even more optimistic
- 20:18Speaker 2: picture on AJ Brown. But people are high on that acquisition. Yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 2: for the moment.
- 20:23Speaker 3: It's hard not to be.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I mean, even if he's just the AJ Brownie was
- 20:26Speaker 4: last year, he's still a thousand yard guy and someone
- 20:29Speaker 4: that's gonna catch eighty passes thousand yards give you six
- 20:32Speaker 4: or seven touchdowns. And that's just based off of a
- 20:34Speaker 4: down year last year. If he's even better, I still
- 20:38Speaker 4: have Maybe it's just a little bit of what I
- 20:41Speaker 4: saw in the spring that gave me some pause with
- 20:43Speaker 4: Romeo Dobbs. I wasn't overly blown away with him, I
- 20:45Speaker 4: agree in the spring. Now, maybe he's not a practice player,
- 20:48Speaker 4: Maybe he needs to get his footing and get the
- 20:51Speaker 4: playbook down and all those different types of things. But
- 20:55Speaker 4: you're hoping that he's going to be a better number
- 20:58Speaker 4: two than like the Kaisham Booties and the Matt Collins
- 21:02Speaker 4: as were last year, who were what you know, around
- 21:05Speaker 4: five to fifty five hundred yards each. So you're hoping
- 21:08Speaker 4: that Dobbs is going to be eight to fifty, maybe
- 21:11Speaker 4: even pushing a thousand if he has a good year.
- 21:14Speaker 4: I don't know if I'm ready to say that he's
- 21:15Speaker 4: gonna be that, but the depth is there, and I
- 21:19Speaker 4: think that there's a strong argument to make that They're
- 21:22Speaker 4: one of the deeper receiving groups in the league, which
- 21:24Speaker 4: is crazy to think in a couple of years.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Now, just close this out by just giving you the
- 21:29Speaker 2: top ten. So you know, the Patriots were tenth, Philadelphia
- 21:32Speaker 2: is nine, Minnesota eight, Dallas seven, Arizona six. Now, Arizona
- 21:40Speaker 2: I thought was a little strange inclusion there because so
- 21:44Speaker 2: Harrison's been a disappointment. Now Michael Wilson had a really
- 21:47Speaker 2: solid season for him last year.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yeah, we did this, We sort of did this exercise
- 21:51Speaker 4: on catch twenty two. And the Cardinals are one of
- 21:53Speaker 4: those teams that we were thinking about that they do
- 21:58Speaker 4: have a lot of playmakers. We just don't know about
- 22:00Speaker 4: anything else going on with that team.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Right, I mean, Trade McBride obviously an excellent pass catching
- 22:05Speaker 2: tight end. I just thought that was a little high.
- 22:06Speaker 2: San Francisco was five. Yeah, Atlanta was.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Four, another team that has has a lot of skill players,
- 22:15Speaker 4: but not necessarily a great run man.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Cincinnati three, and then the Rams are two and the
- 22:23Speaker 2: Lions are one. I don't think anybody would argue necessarily
- 22:25Speaker 2: with those top three. Yeah, you can change the order
- 22:28Speaker 2: anyway you see fit, but I think most people would
- 22:30Speaker 2: agree those are the three deepest cores of weapons that
- 22:36Speaker 2: that you would see. Uh. The other thing that was
- 22:39Speaker 2: interesting that ESPN did is something that you told me
- 22:41Speaker 2: about this morning of was upgrading the off seasons. Yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and Patriots are more middle of the pack there, and
- 22:52Speaker 2: they they were I think it was was it Seth
- 22:54Speaker 2: Walder I wrote that one Patriots the B minus, which
- 23:00Speaker 2: know was it's an acceptable grade. But when you saw
- 23:03Speaker 2: looking how many teams got better than a B minus
- 23:08Speaker 2: quite a bit. I'm going to just count them up here,
- 23:11Speaker 2: but you can sort of raffle off some of the
- 23:13Speaker 2: things that that Seth. He didn't like the acquisition of
- 23:17Speaker 2: Draymond Jones as much as maybe some others did.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's interesting I look at Draymond Jones and Calebon
- 23:23Speaker 4: chase On as an even swap. Now he mentioned that
- 23:26Speaker 4: chase On he was a factoring contract and age. I
- 23:29Speaker 4: think a little bit more than maybe I would when
- 23:32Speaker 4: looking at something like this because Draymond Jones, Chase On,
- 23:36Speaker 4: those are guys that I think are here to win now,
- 23:39Speaker 4: you know, win now players, not necessarily guys Eric worried
- 23:42Speaker 4: about how they're going to be in five years, you know,
- 23:44Speaker 4: down the line. But he mentioned Ed Rusher as a
- 23:47Speaker 4: weak spot on the roster still and highlighted you know
- 23:51Speaker 4: that swap, and that's fair. I think a lot of
- 23:54Speaker 4: these swaps that they made across the roster. They did
- 23:56Speaker 4: so many things, Paul last offseason where they got everything
- 23:59Speaker 4: right with all their offseason acquisitions for the most part,
- 24:03Speaker 4: and all the guys that they let go for the
- 24:05Speaker 4: most part. If Draymond Jones is not as good as
- 24:09Speaker 4: kay Levon chas On, or their depth is not as
- 24:11Speaker 4: good because they no longer have an Anthony Jennings or
- 24:14Speaker 4: Jelani Tavai or some of those players that played on
- 24:17Speaker 4: the edge last year. Those are the things that they're
- 24:19Speaker 4: taking a little bit of a dice roll on. Even
- 24:21Speaker 4: I would say we were talking about the skilled players
- 24:23Speaker 4: like is aj Brown going to catch eighty three percent
- 24:27Speaker 4: of his passes like Stefan Diggs last did last year,
- 24:30Speaker 4: Like maybe he's more explosive, maybe he's more of a
- 24:32Speaker 4: dynamic threat, but Diggs's efficiency was remarkably high. Yeah, So
- 24:37Speaker 4: you know, are those things going to all go right
- 24:40Speaker 4: for the Patriots? I think is kind of where some
- 24:42Speaker 4: of the skepticism.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I just counted them up. There were fifteen, So I
- 24:45Speaker 2: was they were directly in the middle of the pack.
- 24:46Speaker 2: There were fifteen teams that got to be or better,
- 24:49Speaker 2: and then there was another half dozen or so B
- 24:51Speaker 2: minuses in the Patriots were one of those. Just to
- 24:55Speaker 2: give you a little overview, they break it down with
- 24:58Speaker 2: the grade and then they say biggest move They say
- 25:00Speaker 2: trading for aj Brown. Move I liked getting Michael went
- 25:04Speaker 2: who to take a pay cut, And move I disliked
- 25:07Speaker 2: was signing Edge Draymont Jones. Evan kind of talked about
- 25:11Speaker 2: what Walder's reasoning was, and it was more so that
- 25:16Speaker 2: I think he thought that Chase On was a better
- 25:19Speaker 2: pass rusher and he thinks they're sort of lacking, and
- 25:21Speaker 2: I think we'd all agree, you know. He said, they,
- 25:25Speaker 2: you know one area that still looks a bit weak
- 25:27Speaker 2: as edge rusher. The Patriots lost Chasing a free agency
- 25:30Speaker 2: after a solid season and replaced them with Jones, putting
- 25:32Speaker 2: a side that Chase On signs with the Commanders for
- 25:35Speaker 2: a cheaper contract than Jones was signed to. I would
- 25:38Speaker 2: rather have held on to Chase On as Jones recorded
- 25:41Speaker 2: a pass rush win I cannot say win rate pass
- 25:45Speaker 2: rush win rate at edge in just the twenty second percentile,
- 25:49Speaker 2: So he thinks Chasin is a better player regardless of
- 25:53Speaker 2: the contracts. That only kind of exacerbates it for him.
- 25:57Speaker 2: But you look at it, he's sort of Here's one
- 26:02Speaker 2: thing that I thought was interesting. He talked about the
- 26:04Speaker 2: offensive line. Yeah, and I think we all viewed the
- 26:07Speaker 2: offensive lines in an area that needed an upgrade. He says.
- 26:12Speaker 2: The Patriots also took a swing at guard Elijah Vera Tucker.
- 26:17Speaker 2: There you go, Tucker. They like it, and he said,
- 26:21Speaker 2: though I thought they overpaid considering his struggles to stay
- 26:24Speaker 2: on the field with the Jets. This is the part
- 26:27Speaker 2: that I found interesting. And metrics that lag behind his reputation.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Vera Tucker offers upside, however, so he's not as sold
- 26:37Speaker 2: on the player like let alone. The health is certainly
- 26:41Speaker 2: I am because you know, you know me, I don't
- 26:44Speaker 2: do a lot of extensive study, but I'd be hard
- 26:47Speaker 2: pressed to find anything is remotely negative about his play
- 26:50Speaker 2: as that when you read about Vera Tucker or you know,
- 26:55Speaker 2: league wide, Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 4: No, I I would say some of that I think
- 26:59Speaker 4: maybe stems from how many different positions he's played in
- 27:03Speaker 4: his NFL career with the Jets, like he's played tackle,
- 27:05Speaker 4: He's played both.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Sides of the line.
- 27:07Speaker 4: You know, if he was knew that he was going
- 27:10Speaker 4: to play one position and stick at one position long term, Like,
- 27:13Speaker 4: what are what metrics like are he is he looking
- 27:16Speaker 4: at exclusively left guard metrics or is he looking at
- 27:19Speaker 4: right guard and right tackle and all the other spots
- 27:22Speaker 4: that Vera Tucker has played throughout his career with the Jets.
- 27:25Speaker 3: I think is notable. But these are the.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Things that you know, I was hinting out with Draymond Jones,
- 27:30Speaker 4: these swaps or these decisions Garrett Bradberry out and even
- 27:34Speaker 4: though they don't play the exact same position, this is
- 27:36Speaker 4: kind of what happened. This is the domino effect. They
- 27:39Speaker 4: remove Garrett Bradberry from the equation, they add Vera Tucker.
- 27:43Speaker 4: So is Vera Tucker a better player for the Patriots
- 27:47Speaker 4: in twenty twenty six then Bradbury was in twenty five.
- 27:51Speaker 4: That's going to determine whether or not this was a
- 27:52Speaker 4: good offseason. Just like Draymond Jones being better than calevon
- 27:56Speaker 4: Chase on. I think their swap with Jones and Chase
- 27:59Speaker 4: on the Jones a bit your guy. So I think
- 28:01Speaker 4: they're trying to get a little bit more stern doubt
- 28:03Speaker 4: and a little bit more you know, run savvy.
- 28:06Speaker 2: They may have looked at what happened in the Super
- 28:07Speaker 2: Bowl and said that we can't allow that to happen again,
- 28:10Speaker 2: and we need to get a little bit stouter out there,
- 28:12Speaker 2: No no question, but I think we'd all agree, especially
- 28:16Speaker 2: with Accus's sort of tenuous situation, and that's still I mean,
- 28:21Speaker 2: just to give everybody an updates, no news there haven't
- 28:25Speaker 2: really heard anything about that other than you know, I
- 28:28Speaker 2: think we'd all take it as a good sign that
- 28:30Speaker 2: he was part of that social media thing that we
- 28:34Speaker 2: put out when they visited the the f CAT. Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 2: why can I not think of the other the Foundation
- 28:45Speaker 2: to Combat Anti Semitarial I couldn't think of the acronym
- 28:47Speaker 2: for a second. So when he was with the rest
- 28:51Speaker 2: of the rookies in that, I think we all took
- 28:53Speaker 2: that as a good sign. Hopefully that is a good sign.
- 28:56Speaker 4: Yeah, he's been working out on his own. He's been
- 28:58Speaker 4: posting some workout, best Shape of his Life videos on
- 29:02Speaker 4: Instagram and he the thing that I found notable wasn't
- 29:05Speaker 4: so much that he's working out, because he's he's going
- 29:08Speaker 4: through workouts like, you know, obviously I would expect him
- 29:11Speaker 4: to be doing that this time of year, but going
- 29:13Speaker 4: through workouts Paul in Patriots gear, which I thought was
- 29:17Speaker 4: you know, notable give him the situation.
- 29:19Speaker 2: So this day and age of you know, wiping my
- 29:22Speaker 2: social media channels of all logos and right marks absolutely
- 29:27Speaker 2: good sign.
- 29:27Speaker 4: So he's not under contract yet with the Patriots, obviously
- 29:30Speaker 4: drafted by the Patriots, but I thought that that was
- 29:33Speaker 4: interesting that he was wearing a Patriots T shirt during
- 29:35Speaker 4: those workout videos. I don't think that was a mistake
- 29:37Speaker 4: to be repping the brand, so to speak. But I
- 29:41Speaker 4: think Seth Walder brings up some interesting points, like I'd
- 29:44Speaker 4: probably be a little bit more high on it than
- 29:46Speaker 4: him in terms of the veteran ads or the you know,
- 29:50Speaker 4: free agency ads. But I think the one thing that
- 29:52Speaker 4: I've struggled with Paul with this off season that I've
- 29:55Speaker 4: had to keep reminding myself is that the last couple
- 29:58Speaker 4: of off seasons, they've picked at the top of the draft.
- 30:01Speaker 4: So you were getting Drake May, you were getting Will Campbell,
- 30:06Speaker 4: you were getting players in the draft that you were
- 30:08Speaker 4: expecting to come in and make immediate contributions and be
- 30:11Speaker 4: up huge upgrades over the players that they were replacing.
- 30:15Speaker 4: When you pick a guy like Caleb Blomo, and I
- 30:17Speaker 4: think Seth wrote a little bit about it, if he's
- 30:20Speaker 4: just Morgan Moses' successor at right tackle, he might not
- 30:24Speaker 4: even play very much his rookie year. So your rookie
- 30:27Speaker 4: class from a draft pick perspective is not going to
- 30:30Speaker 4: be this overwhelming. Will Campbell, Traveon Henderson, Craig Woodson, like
- 30:35Speaker 4: all these guys coming in immediately and making contributions. You
- 30:39Speaker 4: might not get that out of a group when you
- 30:40Speaker 4: were picking thirty first in the round.
- 30:42Speaker 3: You know it throughout the draft.
- 30:44Speaker 4: So that's been a you know, B minus when you
- 30:47Speaker 4: don't have rookies that you're expecting to come in and
- 30:49Speaker 4: make immediate impacts.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I can understand that.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Sure, you know, maybe if you had a different draft positioning,
- 30:58Speaker 4: if they also if they went out and traded for
- 31:00Speaker 4: AJ Brown. Let's say they did that last off season.
- 31:02Speaker 4: They drafted Will Campbell and Travon Henderson and all these
- 31:06Speaker 4: guys on top of trading for AJ Brown. That's an
- 31:08Speaker 4: a plus off season when you're drafting a tackle in
- 31:13Speaker 4: waiting and a second rounder who we haven't seen yet.
- 31:17Speaker 4: With a team and a third round tight end, like
- 31:20Speaker 4: these are things that might not be immediate twenty twenty
- 31:23Speaker 4: six contributors, I can get why your rookie class might
- 31:26Speaker 4: get dinged a little bit for it.
- 31:27Speaker 2: So let us know you know how you guys feel.
- 31:30Speaker 2: We gave you Bill Barnwell and Seth Walder's views of
- 31:35Speaker 2: both the Patriots' core of weapons in their off season
- 31:39Speaker 2: in general, and I thought Evan did a good job
- 31:41Speaker 2: of sort of breaking that down. Uh, look at see that.
- 31:44Speaker 2: That's what happens when Paul and Evan are here and
- 31:46Speaker 2: there and they just there's no adults. Look at that phone,
- 31:49Speaker 2: Look at the phone line.
- 31:49Speaker 4: The phones are actually talking of the Patriots, not just
- 31:54Speaker 4: stacked what TV shows we watched.
- 31:56Speaker 2: So it's funny because well, I'm gonna read this first one,
- 32:00Speaker 2: and you know from Blake first email, been listening since
- 32:04Speaker 2: twenty eighteen, has not missed a single episode. You guys
- 32:06Speaker 2: are fantastic. It's been my goal to see the Patriots
- 32:09Speaker 2: game a Patriots game for a long as long as
- 32:12Speaker 2: I can remember, pushing it back several years. Last week
- 32:16Speaker 2: I was joking with my wife about taking a trip
- 32:18Speaker 2: to Kansas City to see them play the Patriots, which
- 32:21Speaker 2: is about a three and a half hour drive. Little
- 32:23Speaker 2: did I know that she already had it planned to
- 32:25Speaker 2: surprise me with tickets to my first game in Foxborough.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Oh.
- 32:29Speaker 2: We will be attending the October eleventh game against the Raiders,
- 32:32Speaker 2: and I couldn't be more excited. I know you guys
- 32:34Speaker 2: get asked for recommendations a lot, but if there were
- 32:37Speaker 2: three must see area's seat, you know, see do kind
- 32:41Speaker 2: of things in the area, I would appreciate it. We'll
- 32:44Speaker 2: be flying in that Saturday, staying next to the stadium,
- 32:47Speaker 2: then after the game, staying downtown Boston through Wednesday. So
- 32:50Speaker 2: evan take it away.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Three must dos and he is going to Boston, he
- 32:56Speaker 4: said at the end of the trip.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Yeah, after the game.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Okay. So I'm a North End guy, Paul, you know that.
- 33:03Speaker 2: That was why I answered the newsletter questions.
- 33:06Speaker 4: So we're in the North End pretty frequently, so I
- 33:09Speaker 4: would say, you gotta go for at least one dinner
- 33:12Speaker 4: in the North End, get some Italian food. I'll give
- 33:16Speaker 4: you two recommendations. I'll give you three because my wife
- 33:19Speaker 4: will get mad at me if I don't shout out
- 33:21Speaker 4: all three of them. Tresca is one of our favorites.
- 33:24Speaker 4: It's actually part owned by Ray Bork, so that's pretty cool.
- 33:27Speaker 4: He used to play for the Bruins. If you're not
- 33:29Speaker 4: a hockey person and go see Rich he's a great guy.
- 33:33Speaker 4: He's the chef there and Ray bork Is. You might
- 33:37Speaker 4: see Ray if you get lucky sometimes he's there, So
- 33:40Speaker 4: that one's cool if you're a hockey person. But Tresca,
- 33:44Speaker 4: I'm a big fan of Antico Fourno, which is on
- 33:47Speaker 4: Salem Street in the North End. I think they have
- 33:49Speaker 4: the best red sauce in the North End personally, and
- 33:52Speaker 4: we tried all the places for the most part, so
- 33:55Speaker 4: I would go to one of those two. And then
- 33:57Speaker 4: chow Rom is a new one that we found. It's
- 33:59Speaker 4: a little bit off the beaten path on Prince Street.
- 34:02Speaker 4: I think that we really really like and they have
- 34:06Speaker 4: this is October. I don't know if they'll still have
- 34:08Speaker 4: the outdoor seating, but they do have outdoor seating, which
- 34:10Speaker 4: is pretty cool if you want to go there for
- 34:13Speaker 4: outdoor seating. But those would be my three recommendations. I'd
- 34:16Speaker 4: say make a reservation because you will wait if you
- 34:19Speaker 4: don't have a reservation, even at that time of year.
- 34:23Speaker 4: But North End, I would say, is a good one.
- 34:26Speaker 4: I think if you're coming to Boston and you're only
- 34:29Speaker 4: coming for like your first time ever, I still think
- 34:32Speaker 4: Faniel Hall is like something that you should do, you know.
- 34:34Speaker 3: I know it's touristy, yeah.
- 34:36Speaker 2: The chirsty stuff is.
- 34:37Speaker 4: But if you're for a reason, if you're only coming
- 34:40Speaker 4: to Boston for this being your first time or just
- 34:43Speaker 4: for a short period of time and you don't live here,
- 34:45Speaker 4: you know, taking people from out of town to Faniel
- 34:47Speaker 4: Hall and Quincy Market, they is always a hit. Like
- 34:50Speaker 4: it's always one of the more popular things that we do.
- 34:53Speaker 6: It's America two fifty.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Go see the sites, Go see North Church, Bunker Hill,
- 34:56Speaker 1: go ahead, what what are you.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Gonna do there?
- 34:59Speaker 6: Learn history?
- 35:00Speaker 2: Oh? Okay, but I think this is all adjacent. I
- 35:05Speaker 2: think you guys are walk around argument.
- 35:08Speaker 3: And go eat something. Don't really Bunker Hill.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's tremendous. I mean obviously that
- 35:13Speaker 2: I've done a lot of that stuff, you know, enough times.
- 35:16Speaker 2: But I think when you're from out of town, I
- 35:18Speaker 2: agree with both of you. Get to Fanuel Hall, go
- 35:21Speaker 2: and see some of the history, the Freedom Trail and
- 35:23Speaker 2: things like that. I think it's all well worth your time.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I do it doesn't make me a Boston.
- 35:30Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sure I've done the freedom trail like
- 35:33Speaker 4: once when I was a kid. Was not memorable, don't.
- 35:36Speaker 4: I don't even remember it that well.
- 35:38Speaker 2: It's because you were probably correcting your tour guy.
- 35:41Speaker 6: How much freedom they gave you back then?
- 35:42Speaker 3: Oh so great?
- 35:45Speaker 2: So speaking of I did it a third thing? Oh sorry,
- 35:48Speaker 2: I thought I thought you were exhausted that I did.
- 35:51Speaker 2: But now while you're thinking of a third game, I'm
- 35:53Speaker 2: gonna I'm gonna move on because Anthony and Seattle are
- 35:56Speaker 2: very loyal. Uh listener is coming to our rallying to
- 36:00Speaker 2: our defense about this who's this stick to football Andrew guy?
- 36:04Speaker 2: He's not happy. He wants to know to anyone check
- 36:07Speaker 2: and see if that Andrew guy was in fact Andrew
- 36:09Speaker 2: Hart just trolling the show. It felt like he got
- 36:12Speaker 2: exactly what he wanted, which was a lot of attention
- 36:14Speaker 2: throughout the remainder of the show. And we know that
- 36:16Speaker 2: mister Roger and Foxborough knows exactly what to say and
- 36:20Speaker 2: how to ruffle a few feathers. Otherwise, if it was
- 36:23Speaker 2: just in fact some guy, I'll say this, bro, you're
- 36:26Speaker 2: new here. Just sit back and enjoy the show. Thanks Anthony,
- 36:30Speaker 2: I appreciate it, Thanks, thank you. I think that.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Just be more open to American soccer fans. I'm not
- 36:38Speaker 4: talking about the ones that complain about everything about soccer,
- 36:41Speaker 4: but there's a lot of us, myself included, that really
- 36:44Speaker 4: enjoy the sport and really care about the sport. And
- 36:47Speaker 4: I feel like there's too much the gatekeeping of those
- 36:50Speaker 4: types of people that goes on, like, you know, do
- 36:54Speaker 4: you want us to be fans or not? You know,
- 36:56Speaker 4: because every time an American tweets about something solid related
- 37:00Speaker 4: where there might be a mild criticism in there, it's
- 37:03Speaker 4: immediately taken as like, you know, stay in your lane,
- 37:06Speaker 4: you don't know what you're talking about.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Just just relax.
- 37:09Speaker 2: All right. So I did mention that the phone lines
- 37:12Speaker 2: were starting to stack up a little bit. So I'm
- 37:14Speaker 2: gonna lead it off with our buddy Herm in DC.
- 37:17Speaker 2: You can get us started today.
- 37:20Speaker 7: Today with co dle Man like crew today.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Huh yeah, yes, just just the a team. Some people
- 37:29Speaker 2: have to work, you know what I'm saying.
- 37:31Speaker 7: Now, I got you, I'm gonna got to pay the bills.
- 37:35Speaker 7: One commentent of question and as I'm getting older, right,
- 37:39Speaker 7: I promised myself not to get above them about like
- 37:42Speaker 7: dumb stuff. But so this gentleman Jordans I think the
- 37:47Speaker 7: johnni is his name from CBS, wrote an article basically
- 37:54Speaker 7: explaining how the Patriots had the I think the third
- 37:58Speaker 7: worst offseason out of all NFL teams, and our states
- 38:03Speaker 7: were like, respectfully, I think this young means to get
- 38:05Speaker 7: his head examined, to be honest with you, I mean,
- 38:07Speaker 7: how how can you trade for an all Pro receiver
- 38:13Speaker 7: and all Pro safety and land on the list as
- 38:18Speaker 7: having the third worst off season?
- 38:21Speaker 8: Right?
- 38:21Speaker 7: And I don't think. I don't know if it's a
- 38:23Speaker 7: thing where I feel we're going in the direction of
- 38:26Speaker 7: you know, obviously, attention is the biggest currency in you
- 38:30Speaker 7: guys have space in immdia space. So I don't know
- 38:32Speaker 7: whether he was trying to get like eyeballs this.
- 38:33Speaker 9: Article or whatever.
- 38:34Speaker 7: But I just think when certain journalists and I feel
- 38:39Speaker 7: like the journalistic contector should be brought back, right right,
- 38:44Speaker 7: stuff like that, I mean, they lose all credibility, at
- 38:46Speaker 7: least in my opinion, you know what I mean.
- 38:48Speaker 2: It's just okay, well, it's I don't know.
- 38:51Speaker 3: So I think that I didn't. I'm not saying I
- 38:54Speaker 3: read it.
- 38:54Speaker 4: In ninety percent of the blurb of what he read
- 38:57Speaker 4: was writing about was about Mike Rabel's situation.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Oh so he was saying that they had worse. No,
- 39:04Speaker 2: it doesn't. I mean, I mean, no, it doesn't. Actually
- 39:08Speaker 2: he thinks that obviously, and I didn't read it. But
- 39:10Speaker 2: my guess is that he's thinking that this could be
- 39:12Speaker 2: a possible problem, a distraction.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Yeah, he was saying that they had a bad offseason
- 39:17Speaker 4: because of the situation with Mike Rabel and the off
- 39:20Speaker 4: field stuff, not because of what they did personnel wise
- 39:24Speaker 4: adding talent to the roster. He was talking about the
- 39:27Speaker 4: distraction and the potential.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I mean, another guy for ESPN that we just mentioned
- 39:31Speaker 2: had them, I believe, tied for sixteenth. So it's not
- 39:35Speaker 2: like like that that much. And this guy didn't say
- 39:39Speaker 2: anything about Rabel. So if you think Rabel is significant,
- 39:41Speaker 2: which I kind of agree with HERM, I don't really
- 39:44Speaker 2: think the Rabel part of it right now is overly significant. Yeah,
- 39:47Speaker 2: but if you think it is, shouldn't that factor in?
- 39:51Speaker 3: That's that was it.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Now, I would say to Herm's point, it felt a
- 39:55Speaker 4: little bit quickbaiting that he was making it about the
- 39:58Speaker 4: drama and not necessarily about football. But I not to
- 40:02Speaker 4: defend the guy, but that was what the ranking was
- 40:05Speaker 4: based off of, was the Vrabel situation with Diana Rusini.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Not necessarily I mean it certainly sounds like that. Yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 2: but you know again, I think that's way too low.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But I think the one thing that's I just don't
- 40:17Speaker 2: think it's it's like, well, there's no integrity, Like why
- 40:22Speaker 2: is someone's opinion is different than yours, So that means
- 40:25Speaker 2: that they have no integrity. And I just think too much.
- 40:28Speaker 4: And I think this happens sometimes when you're not here
- 40:30Speaker 4: and you're not covering the team day to day. He
- 40:33Speaker 4: probably put a little bit too much stock in this
- 40:36Speaker 4: being like a long term issue.
- 40:38Speaker 2: And that's how I would feel about it. If you
- 40:40Speaker 2: think that that's a huge issue, I would tell you
- 40:42Speaker 2: right now that I don't feel like it's going to
- 40:44Speaker 2: be a huge issue for the team in a reason.
- 40:47Speaker 2: But that doesn't mean I'm right, right, you know? Does
- 40:51Speaker 2: that mean I have no journalistic integrity? Because if I
- 40:53Speaker 2: end up being wrong, like right, there.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Was a I think it was Pat Doherty. He writes
- 40:58Speaker 4: those like head coach GM rankings every single year, and
- 41:02Speaker 4: he had raybel relatively I can't remember the exact number,
- 41:06Speaker 4: but you know he wrote the same thing. You know,
- 41:09Speaker 4: if this goes sideways, you know, is he how long
- 41:12Speaker 4: is he going to be the coach for Those were
- 41:14Speaker 4: some of the concerns that were brought up in this thing.
- 41:16Speaker 4: I think both of us feel like that's kind of
- 41:18Speaker 4: behind us, but I guess you never know.
- 41:21Speaker 2: All right, So let's stick with the phone lines. We're
- 41:24Speaker 2: gonna go to Jack in Michigan, your next Jack, Jack.
- 41:31Speaker 2: It took me two calls to lose a guy there.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You go, uh oh, all right, So we'll get the
- 41:36Speaker 2: We're gonna get this. We're gonna get this stuff jump
- 41:39Speaker 2: started right now. Christian in La, get us, get us
- 41:42Speaker 2: on board. Here. Where are we going?
- 41:45Speaker 5: Yeah, hey, you guys, Hey you guys, Hey, you guys.
- 41:47Speaker 5: I am on my way back from or again, driving
- 41:50Speaker 5: down but to pick up my son, headed down to LA.
- 41:53Speaker 5: That has some fun. Nice that's my my summertime starting story.
- 41:58Speaker 5: I gotta say this, though, Paul, I want to change
- 42:01Speaker 5: the definition of mansplaining to Paul's plaining, because you have
- 42:06Speaker 5: a way of finding a negative and everything that you
- 42:09Speaker 5: explained so now it's going to be Paul's blaming is
- 42:12Speaker 5: going to stand for finding something negative and how you
- 42:15Speaker 5: explain things. That's one thing. Two, it was definitely a
- 42:19Speaker 5: bad off season because you get two great players, but
- 42:23Speaker 5: you cancel those two great players out with one guy
- 42:26Speaker 5: who's probably likely not going to play and another guy
- 42:28Speaker 5: that you probably likely drafted with a significant injury enough
- 42:32Speaker 5: that they can't get him signed. So and a coach
- 42:35Speaker 5: who's lost his moral authority. To me, that's a bad
- 42:38Speaker 5: off season anyway. One question, and then I want to try.
- 42:42Speaker 10: To stump the groom.
- 42:44Speaker 5: So my question is we did speak about, and maybe
- 42:47Speaker 5: at nauseum, how football players would translate to soccer. But
- 42:52Speaker 5: I was asking you guys one time. Those three guys answered,
- 42:54Speaker 5: how do you think some of the star soccer players
- 42:58Speaker 5: would translate the football?
- 42:59Speaker 11: Like what position?
- 43:00Speaker 5: And do you think they would they would be as
- 43:02Speaker 5: football players. But you answer that, Paul, let's do it.
- 43:05Speaker 12: Let's do what.
- 43:06Speaker 5: Stump the grump?
- 43:07Speaker 2: All right. My answer to the first question is kicker,
- 43:10Speaker 2: and you already stumped the grump because I have no
- 43:12Speaker 2: idea what that first thing was all about. The Paul splaining.
- 43:15Speaker 2: I so you you've you've won you win your stump.
- 43:21Speaker 5: Okay, here's my stump, the grump Boston Boston Red Sox
- 43:26Speaker 5: for the last team in baseball to integrate. Who was
- 43:30Speaker 5: the player that was the first integrated player on the
- 43:34Speaker 5: Boston Red Sox.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Elijah Green? Damn ship?
- 43:38Speaker 5: I mean, I mean dang wow.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Whoa yeah, Pumpsey Green. Sorry, so you're actually let's go
- 43:46Speaker 2: to that was kind of an easy one. Yeah, let's
- 43:48Speaker 2: go to my favorite Christian. Uh, We're gonna go Christian
- 43:50Speaker 2: in Boston instead this time. Chris with a T. I
- 43:53Speaker 2: A N.
- 43:55Speaker 10: What's going on?
- 43:56Speaker 3: Hey guy? How are you?
- 43:58Speaker 7: Are you all right?
- 43:59Speaker 2: Buddy? I haven't other going good?
- 44:01Speaker 3: How are you no good?
- 44:05Speaker 10: Question for you guys. Worst thing in the world that
- 44:07Speaker 10: Kishan Booty stays here, obviously if he doesn't want to
- 44:12Speaker 10: be here and he wants to go out and make
- 44:13Speaker 10: money and produce in an offense and get a good contract,
- 44:17Speaker 10: and why shouldn't he? Isn't the offense with Dobbs and
- 44:22Speaker 10: Booty and Brown better than Dobbs and Brown and whoever
- 44:26Speaker 10: else you want to throw in there.
- 44:27Speaker 12: And I get it, I get it that they both
- 44:29Speaker 12: play the same position in Brown and Booty and you
- 44:32Speaker 12: hope a guy like Hiawai's developed, and you hope that
- 44:35Speaker 12: maybe Pop Douglas and f them Chisholm turned into something
- 44:37Speaker 12: and he got Matt Bollins. I get it, you know,
- 44:39Speaker 12: great guy to have, great locker room guy and just
- 44:42Speaker 12: a big body that growth to But I trust Josh
- 44:45Speaker 12: to put these guys in a great position to succeed.
- 44:48Speaker 12: And I just want the most talent that you can
- 44:50Speaker 12: have on the field. And everybody's talking about trade and booty,
- 44:53Speaker 12: but you know, if they can keep him and he
- 44:55Speaker 12: wants to stay here and he's not going to be
- 44:57Speaker 12: a problem, I think that's the that's you know, that's
- 45:00Speaker 12: the best company offense.
- 45:01Speaker 7: Wanted to get your thoughts on that.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there's no doubt that he's a talented
- 45:07Speaker 4: player and would help in that game, even if he's
- 45:10Speaker 4: just a really good backup receiver, you know, a guy,
- 45:14Speaker 4: the depth guy that they have in case somebody gets hurt.
- 45:17Speaker 4: But I mean Christian kind of answered his own question.
- 45:20Speaker 4: In my opinion, is kese On Boody going to be
- 45:22Speaker 4: on board with that? Is that what he wants? And
- 45:24Speaker 4: you know, is he pointing to wanting some sort of
- 45:28Speaker 4: a trade or something like that because of the fact
- 45:31Speaker 4: that his volume and his opportunity is going to shrink.
- 45:33Speaker 2: If he wanted to be here and accepted sort of
- 45:35Speaker 2: another year like last year, where he would be strictly
- 45:38Speaker 2: a complimentary piece and his targets probably wouldn't be there,
- 45:42Speaker 2: then I would say by all means right, you know,
- 45:45Speaker 2: I just think that he probably wants more than that,
- 45:48Speaker 2: and I don't see him getting even more opportunities than
- 45:52Speaker 2: he did last year. I think he'd be hard pressed
- 45:55Speaker 2: to get the same amount of opportunities he got last year.
- 45:57Speaker 2: I think the way the pieces of change.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the one thing that you could argue,
- 46:03Speaker 4: and the Celtics are arguing this right now with their
- 46:06Speaker 4: superstar player. They've been trying to dangle kaishon Booty for
- 46:10Speaker 4: a while now, Like I think Kashan Boody's been available
- 46:12Speaker 4: for the right price in the trade for a while now,
- 46:14Speaker 4: and it seems pretty clear that that they might not
- 46:17Speaker 4: get that price. So is it really worth it just
- 46:21Speaker 4: because he might be disgruntled, just to maybe get you know,
- 46:24Speaker 4: him into a better situation for himself taking forty cents
- 46:30Speaker 4: on the dollar to you know, whatever it is, and
- 46:32Speaker 4: you know, you get what like a late round pick
- 46:35Speaker 4: or a swap or something like that, Like, is that
- 46:37Speaker 4: really going Is that more worth it to the Patriots
- 46:40Speaker 4: than holding on to him as depth? You know, is
- 46:43Speaker 4: he really going to be that much of a problem,
- 46:45Speaker 4: Because I think if they were getting offers for Kaishon
- 46:48Speaker 4: Boody that were sizable, that he'd be gone already. You know,
- 46:51Speaker 4: if they were getting a third or fourth round pick
- 46:53Speaker 4: back for Kaishan Bouty. I don't think he's here at
- 46:56Speaker 4: this point of the offseason. So the fact that he's
- 46:58Speaker 4: still here tells me that they're probably not getting blown
- 47:01Speaker 4: away by a trade off.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's much of an
- 47:04Speaker 2: argument against that. You're looking at probably a late day
- 47:07Speaker 2: three pick, and right now the Patriots look at that
- 47:11Speaker 2: as like, well, it's worth it for us to hold
- 47:14Speaker 2: on to see if we can sort of convince him
- 47:16Speaker 2: right to fill a role. Then it would be to
- 47:19Speaker 2: give him, you know, to get a seventh round pick
- 47:21Speaker 2: or a sixth round pick in return. I mean, I
- 47:23Speaker 2: think if you were getting a third or fourth round pick,
- 47:25Speaker 2: you'd probably say it's probably best for both sides to
- 47:28Speaker 2: move on.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Maybe they'll get that in September, you know, around roster cuts.
- 47:32Speaker 4: Maybe they'll get that at the trade deadline if a
- 47:34Speaker 4: team that is making a push in their receiver short
- 47:38Speaker 4: and maybe in October they want to make that trade.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Right now, it doesn't feel like that market is there,
- 47:44Speaker 4: and so you're just giving them away at that point.
- 47:46Speaker 4: And it's that really good business to just kind of
- 47:48Speaker 4: give away talented players.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Yeah, So, I mean, I think that those are the
- 47:53Speaker 2: two ways of looking at it. My feeling is that
- 47:57Speaker 2: he's going to eventually get moved. Yeah, me too. I
- 47:59Speaker 2: just think it makes too much sense for both sides.
- 48:02Speaker 2: But I wouldn't be opposed to having him back, absolutely, Well,
- 48:05Speaker 2: I'm not. I've sort of pushed back on Fred sometimes
- 48:08Speaker 2: when he you know, talks about how much upside he
- 48:11Speaker 2: still has and he's still an as sending player. But
- 48:13Speaker 2: that doesn't mean I don't think the guy's got value.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I do think he has value, and I think he
- 48:17Speaker 2: had a really effective year for them last year. You
- 48:20Speaker 2: saw it. You saw to make a lot of big
- 48:22Speaker 2: plays for them, and sometimes those guys that don't necessarily
- 48:27Speaker 2: have the huge volume but find a way to make
- 48:29Speaker 2: an impact the sneaky hard to replace. Because I think
- 48:32Speaker 2: I've talked about this a lot with Julian Edelman in
- 48:34Speaker 2: the past. Sometimes when a guy doesn't get a lot
- 48:38Speaker 2: of opportunities, he finds it harder to maximize the ones
- 48:42Speaker 2: that he does get, you know. In other words, you know,
- 48:45Speaker 2: some guys need to get into rhythm. You know. It's
- 48:48Speaker 2: why some guys in basketball can get come off the
- 48:51Speaker 2: bench and.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Be ready to be.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Ready to you know, knock down a three point or
- 48:56Speaker 2: other guys need to take two or three three pointers
- 48:58Speaker 2: before they get you know, in that and only hit
- 49:00Speaker 2: five in a row mode. Sometimes if you're coming off
- 49:03Speaker 2: the bench, you don't get an opportunity to miss those
- 49:05Speaker 2: first couple to get hot and get in your rhythm.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Kaisha On Booty didn't need the reps early in his career.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Julian Edelman did a good job of maximizing his opportunities
- 49:15Speaker 2: and eventually carved out a bigger role for himself that
- 49:19Speaker 2: was that's not always easy to do. So I I
- 49:23Speaker 2: this is not an I'm not an anti Booty guy
- 49:26Speaker 2: at all. You know, I'm not anywhere nearest high on
- 49:28Speaker 2: him as Fred is, But I don't think anyone is,
- 49:30Speaker 2: maybe except for kaishaw On himself.
- 49:33Speaker 4: But yeah, Fred's not here, so I don't want to,
- 49:36Speaker 4: you know, have an argument against against.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Oh nobody, we can do it.
- 49:39Speaker 4: But I I my pushback to that with Fred as
- 49:42Speaker 4: always tell me what else he can do? You know, like,
- 49:46Speaker 4: what what else is he adding to his repertoire that
- 49:50Speaker 4: is going to take him from a what was he
- 49:53Speaker 4: thirty catches last year? Thirty five catch guy to a
- 49:56Speaker 4: sixty catch guy? You know, is he all of a
- 49:59Speaker 4: sudd going to master running routes at the first and
- 50:02Speaker 4: second level?
- 50:03Speaker 3: The defense?
- 50:03Speaker 4: Is he gonna be very good at playing in the
- 50:06Speaker 4: slot like some people think he might be?
- 50:08Speaker 2: Right?
- 50:08Speaker 4: You know what other sort of thing is he gonna do?
- 50:10Speaker 4: Because when we started talking about volume and getting targets
- 50:14Speaker 4: and getting sixty seventy eighty catches in the season, well
- 50:17Speaker 4: we see that with guys like Digs or if you know,
- 50:20Speaker 4: watched aj Brown with the Eagles last year. You know
- 50:22Speaker 4: how many branches of the tree they're able to run,
- 50:26Speaker 4: and how a guy like Digs, how versatile he was
- 50:29Speaker 4: last year playing inside, playing outside, you know, playing in
- 50:32Speaker 4: different formations, different groupings, that sort of thing. You have
- 50:36Speaker 4: to be able to do that, And I think that
- 50:39Speaker 4: Kaishan Budi has been a really good outside the numbers
- 50:43Speaker 4: deep threat. I haven't really seen another branch to that
- 50:47Speaker 4: route tree.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know that doesn't mean he can't do it,
- 50:50Speaker 2: but I think that has been you know, some deep
- 50:52Speaker 2: in cuts in some in some go routes. That's what
- 50:54Speaker 2: you've seen a lot of outside the numbers down the field,
- 50:56Speaker 2: and he's been really good at it, really really good
- 50:59Speaker 2: at it. So, you know, speaking kind of offense adjacent here,
- 51:03Speaker 2: Jeremy writes in this is one I'm going to direct
- 51:06Speaker 2: to you directly, Evan, do you think Josh mcgenias can
- 51:10Speaker 2: get the most out of Drake's capabilities? I know that
- 51:12Speaker 2: they did great last year, but for example, during the
- 51:15Speaker 2: Super Bowl there were several times you could hear the
- 51:17Speaker 2: mic linebacker yelling out it's a run and Drake didn't audible.
- 51:20Speaker 2: How much can they improve as an offense this season? Yeah.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Look, I think that by the time they got to
- 51:28Speaker 4: the playoffs and certainly in the Super Bowl, I do
- 51:32Speaker 4: think that the Bertha, like the size of the menu
- 51:36Speaker 4: was probably not as big as they needed to be
- 51:39Speaker 4: to compete at that level. And I think a lot
- 51:41Speaker 4: of that has to do with having a second year quarterback,
- 51:44Speaker 4: but also having new pieces around that second year quarterback
- 51:47Speaker 4: in a system for the first time. And there were times,
- 51:50Speaker 4: and I've mentioned this before, where I would watch their
- 51:52Speaker 4: tape and I felt like I was seeing the same
- 51:54Speaker 4: plays over and over again. And sometimes that can be
- 51:57Speaker 4: effective if you're running repeat plays different looks and different
- 52:01Speaker 4: formations and presentations. Sometimes that that that can can be effective.
- 52:06Speaker 4: But ideally you would like to have the full birth
- 52:09Speaker 4: of the playbook or the full menu available, Like you
- 52:12Speaker 4: don't want to have like one of those like fixed menus, Paul,
- 52:14Speaker 4: you wanted the cheesecake factory, right, you want to have
- 52:17Speaker 4: the whole roll Ofdex And I think that that's sort
- 52:19Speaker 4: of a next step. Now, I I didn't see that,
- 52:22Speaker 4: And like I didn't watch the Super Bowl from the
- 52:24Speaker 4: TV broadcast.
- 52:26Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 52:27Speaker 4: I just didn't watch it. Didn't come back and watch
- 52:29Speaker 4: any of like the I watched the All twenty two.
- 52:32Speaker 4: You don't you don't hear anything with that, so I
- 52:34Speaker 4: always I don't know. I kind of pushed back on
- 52:36Speaker 4: some of that stuff of like, oh, they were calling
- 52:38Speaker 4: out their place, like maybe they did a couple of times,
- 52:41Speaker 4: but that's pretty typical.
- 52:42Speaker 2: And I and I'm not familiar with where he got
- 52:45Speaker 2: it from either, guessing like some of the NFL network
- 52:48Speaker 2: stuff that comes out like the yes, they would have
- 52:51Speaker 2: special effects that mid up stuff. Yeah, I just will
- 52:54Speaker 2: say that those are very cleverly edited and it makes
- 52:57Speaker 2: it look like maybe something that is, you know, kind
- 53:01Speaker 2: of interesting was the key to the game, right, you know,
- 53:04Speaker 2: And I just would I don't think there's much question
- 53:07Speaker 2: that Drake May will be in a better position to
- 53:10Speaker 2: handle situations like that this year, with a whole year
- 53:13Speaker 2: under his belt. His teammates were raving about it. The
- 53:17Speaker 2: coaching staff, Ashton Grant, Josh McDaniels, I think Todd Downing
- 53:22Speaker 2: even had you know, a comment. They're raving about his
- 53:26Speaker 2: maturity level. AJ Brown was struck by it immediately upon
- 53:29Speaker 2: getting here, just how forceful and assertive May was in
- 53:33Speaker 2: meetings behind the scenes. So I don't think there's any
- 53:36Speaker 2: question Drake May is going to be much better suited
- 53:38Speaker 2: to handle situations in year two of this system than
- 53:41Speaker 2: he was last year. But you got to go out
- 53:44Speaker 2: and do it on the field.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it would help them for that now.
- 53:47Speaker 4: I don't Also, I just I don't know how much
- 53:49Speaker 4: this is a Josh McDaniels issue. You know, this is
- 53:51Speaker 4: just growing and developing and maturing in an offensive system.
- 53:55Speaker 4: You know, if we're talking about Josh McDaniels, I'm thinking
- 53:58Speaker 4: more play design like x's and o's and and that
- 54:01Speaker 4: sort of thing than I am. You know, the Seahawks
- 54:04Speaker 4: calling out their plays. I think a lot of that.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Like I would bet venture to guess that Robert Splain
- 54:10Speaker 4: probably has called out, you know, his fair share of
- 54:13Speaker 4: plays in in the past, because that's what these guys do.
- 54:16Speaker 4: They study.
- 54:16Speaker 2: They know study film, they know tendancies, they know trends, formations, whatnot. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 54:21Speaker 2: that's what they get paid for. I'm gonna go back
- 54:24Speaker 2: to the phone lines and uh, let's see if we
- 54:27Speaker 2: can hear from Grant in San Diego, the most beautiful
- 54:30Speaker 2: place on Earth, San Diego.
- 54:34Speaker 11: Grant, Hey, Hey, what's up, guys? I got two things.
- 54:39Speaker 11: I'm good, thank you. I know there's a lot of
- 54:42Speaker 11: concern on the edge deeps, but I'm kind of concerned
- 54:45Speaker 11: about the interior D line. I'm wondering if you guys
- 54:49Speaker 11: think they need to get a big body in there,
- 54:50Speaker 11: like a you know, a Selver sealinga or a Kyle Love,
- 54:53Speaker 11: you know, body type to really safeat in the middle there,
- 54:59Speaker 11: And do you guys think they can survive without it?
- 55:02Speaker 2: So I do think that that is lacking, you know,
- 55:06Speaker 2: you know, a big space eater. But I do think
- 55:08Speaker 2: that they can get by without it if that match.
- 55:10Speaker 2: So I'm not dismissing that there's a hole where Tongo
- 55:15Speaker 2: was last year, but I just don't think it's a
- 55:18Speaker 2: vital thing. And if it turns out to be a problem,
- 55:20Speaker 2: I think it's kind of easily addressed. Yeah, I think
- 55:23Speaker 2: you can go out and get a guy that you know,
- 55:25Speaker 2: is three hundred and thirty pounds and just kind of
- 55:27Speaker 2: plays the run. Yeah, I don't think that's something.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Especially nowadays. Yeah, Yeah, I hear what he's saying.
- 55:34Speaker 4: I hear what you're saying, Grant, And I kind of
- 55:36Speaker 4: thought maybe they would, you know, late round, pick Udfa
- 55:41Speaker 4: somebody like that.
- 55:42Speaker 2: You know.
- 55:42Speaker 4: David Bli, the guy that they got from Miami. He
- 55:46Speaker 4: played that role in college, but he's to ninety five
- 55:50Speaker 4: to ninety so he did it at a the FBS level,
- 55:53Speaker 4: playing a lot on the nose. I don't know if
- 55:54Speaker 4: you can play the nose at two ninety five in
- 55:57Speaker 4: the league. But they're bullish on their defensive line like
- 56:02Speaker 4: that Williams like that's and they're super high on on
- 56:06Speaker 4: Corey Durtin.
- 56:07Speaker 2: But those guys are going to be on the field,
- 56:09Speaker 2: Like Corey Durton is going to be at best a
- 56:11Speaker 2: part time player.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Corey Durtin, I think is going to be Tonga.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Like when you have guys like Williams and Barbore, they're
- 56:17Speaker 2: not coming off the field very often unless something goes wrong.
- 56:19Speaker 2: You know, obviously injuries are huge, but those guys are
- 56:23Speaker 2: going to play the vast majority of the snaps and
- 56:25Speaker 2: then when you have to you know it's third and
- 56:27Speaker 2: short or whatever, you know, goal line situations, you want
- 56:30Speaker 2: maybe some added bulk. But yeah, you know, not a
- 56:33Speaker 2: huge issue for me.
- 56:33Speaker 4: Because Mike Rable got asked about a lot of these groups,
- 56:36Speaker 4: you know, edge, tight end, run stuffing, defensive line, like
- 56:40Speaker 4: all throughout the spring, and he agreed at tight end,
- 56:44Speaker 4: I feel like that they probably need another body there.
- 56:47Speaker 4: We'll see how much of an impact that player makes,
- 56:49Speaker 4: but some depth there needed. But he kind of pushed
- 56:52Speaker 4: back on on edge especially, but defensive line to interior
- 56:56Speaker 4: defensive line, like they keep talking about all these guys,
- 56:59Speaker 4: you know, Dirten, Leonard Taylor, Farmer, Farmer and year two.
- 57:03Speaker 4: I think they feel pretty good about that group. Now
- 57:06Speaker 4: we'll see if they're right, but that's just how they feel,
- 57:08Speaker 4: I think.
- 57:10Speaker 2: All right, Grant, thanks a lot for you. Would you say, oh, okay,
- 57:16Speaker 2: go ahead, I'll let we're right up against the break. Well,
- 57:18Speaker 2: we'll give you the last words as you take us
- 57:20Speaker 2: to break.
- 57:22Speaker 11: All right, got Buffalo Wings? Talk if you got a
- 57:24Speaker 11: nice pub in Newton.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Bust Pub in Newton, terrific Buffalo Wings.
- 57:29Speaker 7: Yep, fantastic.
- 57:31Speaker 11: All right, guys, have a great day.
- 57:33Speaker 3: All right, you too, Grant.
- 57:34Speaker 4: They used to be cash only and then COVID hit
- 57:37Speaker 4: and now they I think they allow cards now. But
- 57:40Speaker 4: like one of those classic cash only og We used to.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Go there back one hundred years ago when I was
- 57:48Speaker 2: working at the Herald still and we used to play
- 57:50Speaker 2: a lot of corporate League basketball at night, and we'd have,
- 57:54Speaker 2: you know, like a seven o'clock game somewhere and let's go,
- 57:58Speaker 2: let's go to Bust or get some wings in a
- 57:59Speaker 2: couple of beers afterwards. It was tremendous, tremendous. Oh, that
- 58:05Speaker 2: explains a lot. Yeah, probably doesn't go well with those
- 58:09Speaker 2: late season wounds.
- 58:11Speaker 4: I think he's had some stomach aches, that he's missed
- 58:14Speaker 4: some playoffs.
- 58:14Speaker 2: That's I was getting that. That's what I was getting at.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Uh So, before we get to a break, I want

- 1:01:14Speaker 16: by jurisdiction.
- 1:01:14Speaker 17: And going into my second year, everything was clicking a
- 1:01:17Speaker 17: lot better. You know, you get a little break from
- 1:01:19Speaker 17: the game of football because you have the off season.
- 1:01:21Speaker 17: You come back and just everything was firing. I totally
- 1:01:25Speaker 17: understood what he wanted out of me. I totally understood
- 1:01:28Speaker 17: what the coaches wanted out of me, and I totally
- 1:01:29Speaker 17: understood where I wanted to go to and I knew
- 1:01:32Speaker 17: what I had to do to get to that level
- 1:01:34Speaker 17: I wanted to be at and boom from there on out,
- 1:01:37Speaker 17: going into my second season. All that hard work though
- 1:01:40Speaker 17: that we did my rookie year finally paid off and
- 1:01:44Speaker 17: it all started clicking. It made so much sense why
- 1:01:47Speaker 17: we were running all those extra routes, why he wanted
- 1:01:49Speaker 17: me where he wanted me out on the field, because
- 1:01:51Speaker 17: that's where he wanted to place the ball away from
- 1:01:53Speaker 17: the defender. All that little detail and all that good stuff.
- 1:01:56Speaker 17: So it took a good solid year to have that chemistry.
- 1:02:00Speaker 17: And then from here on out, you just you just
- 1:02:03Speaker 17: you know, just get smarter. You just build upon it,
- 1:02:05Speaker 17: you know, and baild upon it. But that chemistry will
- 1:02:07Speaker 17: would always be there from there on that.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: So a pretty magical season though, that that twenty eleven year.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: You guys, you know, you obviously make the run. You
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: get all the way to the Super Bowl. You talked
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: about the Earl Thomas hit. You know that that hurt
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: your back. You get a Bernard Pollwood hit in that
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: AFC Championship game. How much did that? I mean, we
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: all know you weren't yourself in the super Bowl. How
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: much did that impact you?
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:02:29Speaker 17: That that actually was rough. That kind of sucked, to
- 1:02:33Speaker 17: tell you the truth. It actually gave a bad taste
- 1:02:36Speaker 17: in my mouth for what for what a super Bowl
- 1:02:38Speaker 17: experience should be. Like everyone talked about all what was
- 1:02:42Speaker 17: it like going to Super Bowl? Well, it kind of
- 1:02:44Speaker 17: blew because I was dealing with basically a broken ankle,
- 1:02:47Speaker 17: a very high sprained ankle, which is the worst than
- 1:02:50Speaker 17: a break, Probably isn't basically it basically is worse than
- 1:02:53Speaker 17: a break. A break you can't possibly play play on.
- 1:02:56Speaker 17: I don't think you would have to get the surgery
- 1:02:58Speaker 17: or fix it right there in their sprain actually takes
- 1:03:01Speaker 17: longer to heal, but you can actually keep playing on
- 1:03:04Speaker 17: it because you really can't damage it more. But you're
- 1:03:06Speaker 17: gonna have to get a fix, like right when you're
- 1:03:08Speaker 17: done playing on it. But it was just such a
- 1:03:10Speaker 17: tough situation.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: It was the first time I was hurt.
- 1:03:13Speaker 17: I was young, you know, just the stress of wanting
- 1:03:17Speaker 17: to be out there and not being able to be
- 1:03:19Speaker 17: out there. Just the preparation as well going into the game.
- 1:03:24Speaker 17: I couldn't practice at all. I mean I had like
- 1:03:26Speaker 17: one little workout and then I played in the game
- 1:03:28Speaker 17: as well, and knowing I wasn't going to play that
- 1:03:30Speaker 17: many games, and just distress as well on the outside
- 1:03:34Speaker 17: as when I was twenty two years old and just
- 1:03:36Speaker 17: all the questions that were coming in about my ankle.
- 1:03:38Speaker 17: I didn't really know how to handle it, you know,
- 1:03:40Speaker 17: with my friends, with my family, tickets for the Super
- 1:03:43Speaker 17: Bowl and everything. So it was not that great an
- 1:03:46Speaker 17: experience because of that ankle injury going into my first
- 1:03:50Speaker 17: Super Bowl, and it made it tougher. But I can
- 1:03:53Speaker 17: tell you this, I learned a lot from it, and
- 1:03:56Speaker 17: I grew from it as a player, and I believe
- 1:03:58Speaker 17: it helped me out going into the other Super Bowls.
- 1:04:01Speaker 17: So because I knew how to handle a Super Bowl situation.
- 1:04:05Speaker 18: Meaning family, friends, yes, give me this party, give me
- 1:04:08Speaker 18: the year or there, yes, and yes exactly, and I
- 1:04:11Speaker 18: blew all that off.
- 1:04:12Speaker 17: You know, you take care of the people that you
- 1:04:14Speaker 17: need to truly take care of that were there for
- 1:04:16Speaker 17: your whole entire life when you were growing up. And
- 1:04:19Speaker 17: then also like I said that stress with the ankle
- 1:04:21Speaker 17: injury as well, questions coming from your family, your friends,
- 1:04:24Speaker 17: are you going to play? Coming from just fans stepping
- 1:04:27Speaker 17: out of the house and going somewhere, and you just
- 1:04:30Speaker 17: didn't know, you know, and you didn't want to give
- 1:04:31Speaker 17: an answer either because if you gave them an answer,
- 1:04:33Speaker 17: they could go run to the press with it and
- 1:04:35Speaker 17: you'd be.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Like, oh, what the heck?
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: And then you know, everything.
- 1:04:38Speaker 17: Was tight left here in the New England Patriots organization
- 1:04:42Speaker 17: at that time especially, so that was putting a lot
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: of stresses on you as just a twenty two year
- 1:04:47Speaker 17: old kid. So just going into the other Super Bowls,
- 1:04:50Speaker 17: knew how to handle the demands not being injured, so
- 1:04:52Speaker 17: not dealing with that, it just made those experiences just
- 1:04:55Speaker 17: that much better than.
- 1:04:57Speaker 18: Was that the best team that you played on? Rob
- 1:04:59Speaker 18: here with fourteen? Team that beats Seattle?
- 1:05:02Speaker 10: Uh?
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: In my career here here here in New England? Was
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: that the best I think he might think it was.
- 1:05:11Speaker 17: That's why I qualified that was that was a very
- 1:05:14Speaker 17: special team game at the heck of a game. It
- 1:05:18Speaker 17: was one of the best Super Bowls haymake all times.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: No doubt about that.
- 1:05:22Speaker 17: People are like, what was your favorite Super Bowl Not
- 1:05:24Speaker 17: I always say the first one, but it wasn't because
- 1:05:27Speaker 17: it was just the first one, because the first one
- 1:05:30Speaker 17: is always the sweetest. But it was also because it
- 1:05:33Speaker 17: was one of the best games in Super Bowl history.
- 1:05:36Speaker 17: Seattle was up, we came back, they went back up,
- 1:05:38Speaker 17: We took the lead, and you go, they go back
- 1:05:40Speaker 17: down with you know, final final minute on the clock,
- 1:05:43Speaker 17: and then Malcolm Butler has that game ceiling interception and
- 1:05:46Speaker 17: then we're kneeling the ball and I'm throwing Haymakers out
- 1:05:48Speaker 17: there versus Michael Bennett, you know, while just kneeling the ball,
- 1:05:52Speaker 17: there's a huge brawl in the end zone. So there
- 1:05:54Speaker 17: was just so much too, and it's just such a great,
- 1:05:57Speaker 17: you know, perspective to fans too for a game to
- 1:05:59Speaker 17: watch of what it's all about to play, you know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 17: you know, to play the game of football. Just that
- 1:06:05Speaker 17: game brought everything to the table. And what was great
- 1:06:07Speaker 17: was such a team win. Julian had a touchdown, Brandon
- 1:06:10Speaker 17: LaFell had a touchdown, and Mondola had a touchdown. I
- 1:06:13Speaker 17: had a touchdown, and Shane Vereen went for about eleven
- 1:06:17Speaker 17: catches right around there for like I don't know, one
- 1:06:19Speaker 17: hundred something yards, I think, but he had a big
- 1:06:21Speaker 17: impact even though he didn't score a touchdown too, So
- 1:06:24Speaker 17: just an incredible game overall.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: It was by fire, you know, my favorite.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: And now great moments in.
- 1:06:34Speaker 12: History.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: So I love college football.
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: He has no interest in it until February, but it's
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: so much. This weekend especially is gonna be great. You know,
- 1:06:41Speaker 8: Alabama Tennessee. There's probably at least one future Patriot playing
- 1:06:44Speaker 8: in that game, so that would probably be a reason.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: Okay, because he's patting himself on the back so much.
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: I'm gonna just say this, the reason why I don't
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: get into college football in the fall is because I
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: have what's called a girlfriend and shot fireball shot Saturday,
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: I spend it with Jess.
- 1:07:07Speaker 8: I'm going to truly enjoy my Saturday this week. And
- 1:07:10Speaker 8: I thought you said we weren't doing we weren't doing personally.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: That's another great moment. That that was brutal, a brutal takedown.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Guess what, still the same situation.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: No, I know what even with the fourth of July,
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: like there's nothing, he's got nothing going on? Is you
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: got anything going on?
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I got nothing going on this week now, right?
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: I got the perfect thing for you, You and Jesse. You
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: have to spend your quality time, so I think why
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: not just go and shop the sofa America has waited
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty years for at Bob's Discount Furniture.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Check out the stylish multi purpose modular Bob Collection with

- 1:08:09Speaker 2: nothing going on.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: Do you think that the founding fathers two hundred and
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: fifty years ago, said Bob's Discount Furnisure. So that's what
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: I really want right now. It's a nice sofa.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Tell you Fourth of July. Not that it's underrated, because
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: I think people, for the most part, you love the
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Fourth of July and so it's pretty highly rated. But
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: to me, it's tremendous.
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: There's nothing to dislike about it. It's a day off,
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: you get to drink, you get to eat.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: A lot of the weather is always great almost almost.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: I think barbecue to me, cook out that that's at
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: the top of the list, near the top of the
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: list of foods that I would choose to eat in
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: a setting like that.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: So do you remember last week when you and and
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Fred had one of a typical Paul and Fred's semantics
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: argument that went on for days and days. Yes, it
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: was about, you know, the jargon in vocab in soccer
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: and whether or not the traditional It's like nil, just
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: saw another one go up there as I was watching
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: this this a round of thirty two match talking about
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: goals scored yes and not goals allowed V conceded. So
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: that sort of kicked off your little argument last week
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: with Fred and Chris, and Florida wants to chime in.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: He says, First off, I find Fred's stance on using
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: traditional vocabulary when speaking so speaking about soccer in this
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: country disingenuous. If you are so concerned about traditional vocabulary,
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: why don't you call it football like the rest of
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: the world. I, for one, don't care if people say
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: pitch or field. If the people calling the game feel
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: comfortable using traditional vocabulary or local vocabulary, It makes no
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: difference to me as long as the vocabulary is clear
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: and if not explained by the user. It is fine
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: to develop our own traditions, but it would be leadist
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: to ignore the other traditions from around the world. Using
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: vocab from other parts of the world is just a
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: way to pay homage to those other countries and traditions,
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: So I would chuck that one up for one.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: On Evan's side, that was a little contradictory.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: We started out with disingenuous and then we went the
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: other way, so I was a little confused there, but
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: I think where we came to a common ground. Fred
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: and I agree.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: It was great to see you kids coming.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: To get They came together and we we we were
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: able to find common ground. I'm not talking about changing
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: the actual terms of the sport, like I'm not saying
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: that we should now call a goal a point or
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: a run. I am saying conceded. I have never said
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: the phrase goals conceded ever in my life.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: I've did. That's just not as It's just not something
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: that we say here. So it's against goals allowed. You know,
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: never heard goal.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: I'm going to go to give up whatever. But I
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: don't really feel it feels weird to me.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Differential.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it feels disingenuous to me to then all of
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: a sudden start saying goals conceded, like you know, I
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: know the lingo. So that's why I just prefer not
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: like you know. That's just me though, But I feel
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: like we found a little bit of common ground on that.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: So this is not necessarily Patriots related, but football related.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: So I'm going to stick with the football questions. This
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: is from James, the most interesting Patriots fan on Earth,
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: and he's pulling a Fred here. A little twist on Fred.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: I was one wondering along the beach the other day
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: overlooking the Caribbean when I couldn't help, but I couldn't help,
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: but thinking about the wheels coming off the Bills this season,
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: and to that end, I have a three part question. One,
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: what are the chances of the new coach Brady pooping
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: the bed, screwing up clock management and things of that nature.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: I think he's a major downgrade for McDermott, so we'll
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: touch that one first. Always a concern with the first year.
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: Always a chance, there's a chance that he's very very good.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: There's a chance that.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: It's Mao or is he Ben Johnson?
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: Right, there's chance, definitely a chance. I would say that
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: it's not a very high chance to me that the
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: wheels completely come off.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Okay, so we're going to get to some of that. Yeah,
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: So I agree with you. There's really no way of
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: knowing what Joe Brady's going to be as a coach
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: until he's actually a coach. Number two, If he is terrible,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: how bad does that make the Bills? Does it make
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: him a five win team? Or with Josh and playing
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Miami in the Jets twice a year, will Allen just
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: always be good enough to get you ten wins no
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: matter what the coach is.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: I would say I probably maybe ten is high. Like
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: if they're really a disaster, maybe he's only good enough
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: to get them to eight or nine wins somewhere around there.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: But I think that there he's not going to allow
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: them to totally stick. So I don't see them going fours.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Like nine and eight. Yeah. In the last part of
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: James's three potter is if he does turn out to
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: be bad, does he get pulled before the end of
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: the season, or do they limp to the end of
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: the season until he gets the full male.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: I don't think there's any chance of him getting fired
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: in season. I mean there's always a chance.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: I just can't see them losing that many games. But
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: I suppose I feel like three and.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Eight, Yeah, I think that.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: You know, the interesting thing, they do have a tough
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: start to the schedule.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: They the first like month of the season is I
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: think we.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: Had an emailer like a month ago, sort of illustrate that.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: The one thing that we were talking about last week
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Part and I was the interesting decision that the Bills
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: made to stand by Brandon Bean.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: I always want to call him Billy Bean.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Brandon Bean their general manager and firing McDermott but keeping
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: the GM.
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: Who those two guys used to be tied together.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: They're both Carolina guys, and they go back to those
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: Ron Rivera like Carolina Panthers era Cam Newton teams. They
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: they picked the GM, and I had kind of thought
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: from the outside looking in, Paul, I don't know how
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: you feel that their roster deteriorated more than the coaching,
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: Like I felt like their talent got worse and worse
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: and worse.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: I agree, And now a lot of people I don't
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: know if you've noticed. But there's been a groundswell of
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: how much was McDermott responsible for the success of the defense,
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: which on paper doesn't look all that great, right, which
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: is another First of all, it's a it's an endorsement
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: of McDermott, but it's another uh, you know, knock on
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: on Brandon Bean.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: They've they've had great defenses for the most part. Last year,
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: they weren't very good defensively.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: But so I would say that in the entirety of
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: the Josh Allen era, for the most part, they've had
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: some statistically excellent defenses that when I watch play do
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: not look all that good. And I include when they've
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: played the Patriots, and I'm not talking about the Drake
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: May Patriots. I don't think they look good against Cam Newton.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: I don't think they look good against Mac Jones. I
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: think that they the Patriots have had some of their
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: better offensive games in some dark times, offensively in games
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: against Buffalo.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: So I just ever think that that defense is be
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: all that good. Statistically, They're at the top of the
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: leak in a lot of categories.
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: Yeah, not last year, but in the previous years. I
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: just look at their their roster and what has happened
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: to Buffalo, And I get it. Eventually with the head coach,
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: you have to get over the hump. Eventually, you can't
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: lose in the divisional round every single year and expect
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: to continue to keep your job when you have a
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: quarterback of that caliber.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Eventually you have to break through.
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: But I thought it was interesting that they kept one,
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Like I thought maybe they were going to blow them
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: both out and ended up keeping being and then they
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: just promoted from within.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: So the point that Barth was making and I didn't really.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: He's not unbiased in this case.
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Yeah, but I couldn't push back on this part of it.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: It's kind of just more of the same in Buffalo,
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Like it didn't really change all that much.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Nope. And I don't think they had a great offseason.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: I think they had some opportunities to do more in
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: terms of personnel acquisitions and they didn't. You know, But
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: I James point about Josh Allen to me is the
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: one that's the one.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: That's they're not going to totally stink.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: I think it's always possible. You saw Kansas City finally
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: bought them out, But how many years were we saying
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: that about Kansas City. It's just not that much here.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: There's just not much there. But like when you have
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: a quarterback that's that good, you generally win, and I
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: think that will be the case with Josh Allen too.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: I'm not telling you they're going to go to the
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: super Bowl because I don't think that's a super Bowl roster.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: I mean, I don't, but he's good enough to beat you.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: The problem for Buffalo is is he good enough to
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: beat say, three good teams in a row to get
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: to the super Bowl. My answer is probably not.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think you know, with McDermott, the final
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: nail was if you watch that Denver playoff game, they
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: couldn't get a stoped, they couldn't get off the field,
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: and like, take away how it ended and how he
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: behaved afterwards, take all that out of it as the
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: guy that's running the defense and as a defensive minded coach,
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: and bo Nicks was just all over the yard, even
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: in overtime on one ankle, he's you know, one leg,
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: he's he's still making plays that eventually kind of you know,
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: caught up to them, And so I get why they
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: did what they did, but I did think it was
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: interesting that they held onto the GM.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: So Eddie and La wanted to weigh in on some
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: of the talk that we had about the off season
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: and the weapons. He said he did hear your catch
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: twenty two segment last week. I wanted to chime in.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: He felt like you guys skipped over the Bears a
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: little bit too quickly. Loveland Burden Adunze could be an
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: elite Trio. Wanted to ask, do you guys think at
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: some point the Patriots will feel pressured to make a
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: move for an edge rusher, say, a week away from
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: the preseason and OCAs still isn't signed and other teams
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: are looking into Thibodeau. Do you think that the Patriots
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: would be forced to make a move as soon as
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: possible to enter the season with the edge rushers that
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: they have. Love y'all, so take those two things one.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Do you guys think maybe you and Alex undersold the
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Bears a little bit?
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: Maybe a little bit, But I think I don't think
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: Donsay has really lived up to it.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: Good, not great. It's been better than Harrison, the.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: Top ten pick ninth overall in that draft. I want
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: to say, we'll see I was a big, big Luther
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: Burden fan going into it. His metrics are all really
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: really good, his advanced metrics, but him and Lovelin, I
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: think need to prove it a little bit more before
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: I say that that's the exercise. We were doing this
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: thing that Daniel Jeremiah tweeted out about, you know, the
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: twelve kind of pillars that you need to build a
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: championship foundation, and one of them was three playmakers on offense,
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: and we got really bogged down on that because we
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: were going back and forth on whether or not the
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: Patriots have three, because I think this is kind of
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: your thing with fred is he is he a weapon?
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Right? Right? And so A. J.
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: Brown's obviously one. We both agreed eventually that Ramondre Stevenson's
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: probably a second guy we would consider.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I would consider that the running backs is one. Yeah,
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: so I think they have the big play and I
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: thought Barnwall did a good job of illustrating that.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: Yeah, so Ramandre are the running backs? AJ Brown? Do
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: they have a third playmaker? Like a true playmaker, not
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: just like, oh he's a nice piece like Romeo Dobbs
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: or Hunter Henry, but a guy that you really feel
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: like is a game changer, and so then we were
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: going down the list, and when we were doing the
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: barn Weall thing earlier made me think of it as well.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: There are teams that have the playmakers but nothing else,
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: like Atlanta has London Pits Beijon Robinson. It'd be hard
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: pressed to find a better trio of playmakers than those
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: three guys. Atlanta's gonna win like six games, right, So, like,
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: you know, what difference does it really make?
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: But I never know when that division.
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true, but that's that's what we were talking about.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: Maybe the Bears I think could get there. I think
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: I need to see a little bit more out of frankly,
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: all three of them right as young players in the
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: league to put them in that category.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: So I want to read this one real quick. It's
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: from Evan and Rhode Island, because it makes sense what
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: he's saying, because we both kind of had raised eyebrows
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: when we were reading the Bill Barnwell thing and it
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: said twenty four they were ranked tenth, Yeah, twenty five
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: they were ranked thirty yeah, and we both were like, huh.
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: Yeah, because I thought I went back and checked that out.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: So he says, just to clear things up. Well, the
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: new article says that the Patriots were ranked tenth in
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: twenty four. That's an error. That's why if you go
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: back and look at the twenty four article, they were
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: ranked thirty first, ahead of only the Chargers.
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: So I didn't see that they put this was I
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: had a brain fart. I didn't see that he put
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: it there, and I was curious to see what Drake
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: May era where they were. So I actually dug up
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: the old articles and did it manually, and so that's
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: why I was confused.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I that is, it didn't make any sense to
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: me that they were ranked that high. Now I didn't
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: know they were thirty first, but ten, you know, that
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: didn't seem to make a lot.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: Yeah, so thirty I think they were thirtieth, thirty, first, thirtieth,
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: and now tenth this year. So they went from a
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: bottom five group in Drake May's first two seasons to
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: a top ten group in his third year. It's that
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: that's pretty remarkable improvement. And I would just add, not
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: to take away from Travon Henderson, they haven't really done
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: it with the draft ball. Look, it wasn't like they drafted,
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: you know, we were just talking about Marvin Harrison Junior
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: and Romadoonze. It's not like they went out and drafted
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: Molik Neighbors or whatever, and all of a sudden they have,
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: you know, this elite young receiver. They they've kind of
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: done it through veteran trades and acquisitions. For the most part,
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: it's it's been impressive.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: Donald Is in Mississippi has a couple of games for
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: you that normally I like to try to play, but
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: now I can't because I know the answer. So he says,
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: it's it might be time for some games. He's got
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: a couple love child games. All the answers are current
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: or past Patriots players. I'm going to just let you
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: know they're all past Patriots players. And he's asking you
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: who are the love child of his seventies R and
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: B soul funk disco band, Oh god, and a real
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: estate mogul.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: Oh God. I'm not going to be good at this.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: So this one I think you should have gotten. But
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: maybe it's just because.
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: I had seventies anything.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: But what's my favorite group of all? So it's Earth,
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: Wind and Fire. So who's who's the Patriots cornerback Wind Morelands? Okay,
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: So I don't I don't know who the Moorland is.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: That's the real estate mogul. But yeah, I would have
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: gotten from the first Earthwind Moreland two thousand and four.
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: It's a joke on more Land.
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Okay, there you go. Huh, Yeah, you're probably right, because
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: you know, I don't really know a lot of real
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: estate moguls. Uh. Anyway, love Child of the Ancient Empire
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: and a German flute player.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: Oh god, ancient empire, that's the which ancient empire? Just
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: a ancient and I think of the most famous one
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: the Roman Empire. Right, so you got the first name
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: Rome Roman, Roman, Fifer Roman. So you could play just
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: spin them out, don't be shy, just when you know
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: the answers just blurred them out.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: This is not stranger.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: Yeah, this was a little bit of a stretch, this one.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: I don't think you're gonna get because there's no way
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: I would have I Love Child of a gift giving
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: elf in a residence of Stalact thirteen Buddy Chris Hogan.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: Oh so the stalag thirteen part hold on. I would
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: have probably gotten that eventually, But what's the gift giving elf?
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: Chris Chris Kringle maybe that's not. I don't know that
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: that's a good point by you. Yeah all right. You know,
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: right off the top of the show, we had our
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: buddy Patty and Agawam and called in, and then he
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: must have had to go and get a couple of
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: beers and then rejoin us after the break. So Patty
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: and Agawam, what's up? What's up?
- 1:23:39Speaker 9: No, I didn't call him before.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: I thought it was you. Yeah, all right, I thought
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: I thought it was you. I thought it was you.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: To say it was you say it was Phil.
- 1:23:51Speaker 9: I love how Christian in La calls in Paully and
- 1:23:54Speaker 9: says that you view everything through a negative scope, you know,
- 1:23:57Speaker 9: and then proceeds to crap on this year's draft.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Or the off season in general.
- 1:24:02Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, he just he can't write this sort of stuff.
- 1:24:05Speaker 9: I just had a quick question regarding to Mario Douglas
- 1:24:10Speaker 9: during his presser in mini camp. He looked like he
- 1:24:13Speaker 9: looked a little bit muscular, a little bit more muscular
- 1:24:16Speaker 9: than me, and I just wanted to see if you
- 1:24:17Speaker 9: guys thought that like he put on if you guys
- 1:24:20Speaker 9: thought he'd put on some good weight, I'll take it
- 1:24:22Speaker 9: out their guys, all.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: Right, Thanks Patty. I'm not I'm not generally the guy
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: to ask about them.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: So not to get all but I feel like he's
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: always been pretty toned, like even though he's not a
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: big guy, Like I've never worried about Tomorio Douglas is
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: like fitness, you know, like is he in shape or
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: anything like that.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: I didn't say you that this this team must have
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: had the greatest off season training of work that that
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: you could possibly have. Kyle Williams, Drake May to Mario Douglas,
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Will Campbell, Will Campbell. I mean, is anybody not significantly bigger,
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: much more muscular anything they were last year.
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: It's the new practice facility.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I I don't think it is period, but.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: It's the new balance of the Poltics Center.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: Well, hold on, it's time for the hydration break. It's
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: not a water break. It's funny.
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: A lot of they are booing the hydration break, and
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: the announcers are like, oh, the fans here are are
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: booing because they thought they were booing something about the game.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: I was like, no, they're booing. They don't like this.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: They are booming now the soccer. The soccer purists don't
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: like that the game is now broken up into quarters.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: I got to admit here in the crowds chant USA,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: gets my gets me going.
- 1:25:31Speaker 13: Your.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Good job TJ hashtag this guy. This guy's the most.
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: Excited for America two fifty as anybody else.
- 1:25:41Speaker 6: I'm so excited, it's unbelievable.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: I don't get it.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: My whole week at Disney, I was just telling everybody
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: how great this country is.
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: We need more people like that.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: We do. Unfortunately, we need more people that live here
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: to think. We forget about the people that don't live here,
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: because I understand what they think of their own countries.
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: That's what I was telling people.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: It's the people that live here. I don't feel like that.
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: Aren't you happy you live here?
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: Look at this?
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: You can do this right now?
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm happy I live here because we know and
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: I'm not no shade. But we've traveled a little bit,
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: you know, Germany, London, places like that. They're very, very nice.
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: But the the way that you know, our hospitality, like
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: things like air conditioning, let's say, bathrooms.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Don't go to Europe for you you know, like things
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: that like things like that.
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: We were spoiled here. We are we we have bigger
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: and better of all those things.
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: We're not spoiled.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: We do it.
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: We're American.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Who rah, he is unbelievable. Let me see here, who's
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: next to this is John He's wondering our thoughts on
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: Jon Smith for the uh tight end uh two slash
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: three role.
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: I don't hate it, but every single time John new
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: Smith goes to a West Coast Arthur Smith flavored offense,
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: he performs, and every time he's out of that kind
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: of system he doesn't.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: And he was in this like you know, it'd be
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: one thing if there was somebody else here, not Josh McDaniels.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: It just didn't look so good with Josh McDaniels. So
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: now he looked like a Listen any port in a storm.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: If they feel like they just need somebody and need
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: an NFL player to fill that role, fine, I think
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: John Smith has some talent.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: Me too. I mean Miami last year he was a
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: good player for them.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so I I liked jo. I think he was
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: actually in Pittsburgh last year, Oh Pittsburgh. Who I think
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: he was in Miami before that two years ago? Then yeah, yeah,
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: But I'm all for the guy's ability. But if Josh
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: doesn't feel like it's a fit because it didn't work
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: out in twenty one.
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: Yeah, one, twenty two. I guess maybe in theory.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: When he was signed in twenty one, he was signed
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: to a very expensive contract. If you're bringing him back
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: this time, you're not really He's not like a big
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: free agency splash. There's a lot of pressure that comes
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: with that. There's a lot of expectation that comes with that.
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: But that's the one thing that you always point out
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: is when he's with my McDaniel or Arthur Smith or
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: one of these West coasts, you know, outside zone boot
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: type of offenses, he was great. But then when he
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: came here and played in more of like a old
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: school traditional dropback offense, it wasn't quite as good.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: He also wants your opinion on this is sort of
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: off the beaten path here or something we were talking
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: about last week on older fans asking for autographs on
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: their memorabilia. I'm twenty two now, and I feel it's
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: an immature look to ask for an autograph at practices,
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: passing by piles of little kids that they're doing the
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: same thing. Am I wrong for thinking this way?
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: No, you're not wrong.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: I'm not going to sit here in finger wag necessarily,
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: But if there's kids in front of you that are
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: trying to get autographs at training camp, let the kids
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: get the autographs.
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: Don't be that guy. Don't be that.
- 1:28:46Speaker 19: You know.
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: It's like at a baseball game.
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: To Paul, like, if you catch a foul ball and
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: you're grown adult and there's a kid sitting next to you,
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: just give the ball to the kid, like he's going
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: to remember it a lot more than you are. Give
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: it or her you know, give it to the kid.
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: But I understand like if you're if it's a completely
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: random encounter, like if you just happen to bump into
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: somebody you want to take a picture, and they're cool with.
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: It, but it's an autographed setting. So now that to
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: me is for kids. Yeah, I agree, and I would
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: agree with that. It always sort of rubs me the
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: wrong way for years, and I know you do it
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: now f when you check into the hotel every week,
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: and I think they do a much better job of this,
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: But they used to be crowds.
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: I hate not because of me. I think it's I
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: don't think it's fair to the players.
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: And there's so many times you'd see adults with their books,
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: and you know they're going their right to get money.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: It's all in the in the memorabilia business, right, and
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: it just always sort of rubbed me the wrong way.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: But you know, listen to each his own.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: I'm a rat when it comes to those people. When
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: we're on the road, I report them to the team security.
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: I don't like it, like leave the players alone. They're
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: not here to sign your baseball cards that you can
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: go sell them, you know, it's.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: That's all they do.
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I'm not talking about the kids.
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: I'm talking about grown adults that have these, like Paul said,
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: they have these books of baseball cards, football cards, and
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: they're going up to the players and they're asking them
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: to sign them so that they can flip them so
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: that they can go sell the autograph football card on
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: the open market. And it's just these hotels shouldn't let
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: those people in.
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: And along those lines, you know, Anthony takes some exception
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: to a lot of what we were talking about last
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: week with the jersey.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: With the jerseys, yeah, I.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: Find it crazy that there are people saying wearing a
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: jersey as an adult is lame or silly. No one
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: should have to explain why they wear a jersey. Isn't
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: the whole point to support your favorite team? What if
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: there's a sentimental element. I root for Cat because he
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: lost his mother, and I can relate to that because
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: I lost my dad. But why would I have to
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: explain that. It seems ridiculous and unnecessary to hate on
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: the jersey wearing fans. I'm just going to speak for
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: myself here. I don't hate on jersey wearing fans. It's
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: just nothing that I would ever be interested in doing. Yeah,
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: Like I think, as an adult, if you're a fan
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: of a team and you want to show your support
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: of the team, there are other jerseys to wear other
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: than a uniform, and I think the one lone exception,
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: in my mind, not yours. I think the hockey sweater
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: at a at an NHL game is a little bit
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: different than all the others, and I would say slightly
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: different would be the jersey at a football game. The
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: basketball and baseball ones, to me are kind of silly.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: But that's my opinion. Doesn't make me right again. You
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: don't have to think the way I do, and I
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: don't have to think the way you do. It's just
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: not something that I would do.
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: I think you do.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: I wear like a quarter zip green you know, Celtics
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: logo on the side. I think that's saying the same
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: thing as the corporate guy that has the Jason Tatum
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: tank over his dress shirt and tie.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: The tank is tough, the tank, I think, the basketball.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: But you do you?
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I wear a jersey Desltics game still
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: most of the time. And I do feel, though I
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: not because of any slight to anybody, but I do
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: feel personally that I'm starting to outgrow it, just because
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: it just from an aesthetic standpoint, Like I just feel
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: like I look like a big kid, you know.
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: Wearing like a jersey.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: But that's just me.
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: But it's nothing to do with fandom or anything like that.
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: It's just I don't know if I want to wear
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: that anymore, Like it's not a very Yeah.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: I like again, I don't you do you You don't
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: have to worry about what anybody else is thinking. Do
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: whatever you want. I'm just trying to look at some
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: of these emails. Yeah, I do think that one right now.
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: I do think that one too, that sends from Megan
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: O'Brien right thinking that it's ugly to wear one right
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: Like that was like a you know, dudes aren't attractive
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: in jerseys type of argument she was making, not a
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: you look like a weirdo. So I think that that
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: was supposed to be tongue in cheek.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: If someone wants to know if we have a name
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: for our show, we said we need a name, like
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: when when I do it with Mike, when it's Mike
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: and I, it's Pep and the Deuce.
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: Yeah, which is not a weird name at all.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: It's a great name. That's one of my that's one
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: of my best ones ever. Pp in the Deuce. I
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: think what if we uh, what if we toy it
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: around with salt and pepper?
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: Salt and pepper.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we have that. We did that one.
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: Let's see. This is Robert writing in he's anticipating a
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: better offensive line this season. How confident in you that
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: Wilson will make the transition to center successfully? So I'll
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: get that football part out of the way first them
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: we'll keep workshopping the name.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: I'm pretty bullish on the offensive line too. I think
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: it's going to be improved now. A lot of that
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: I think more rides on Verick Tucker's health than the
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: two second year guys. I expect both of those guys
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: to to be pretty good. I I don't know if
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: Verriic Tucker is going to be available. I think that's
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: a big question mark. Now now that they have low moved,
- 1:33:57Speaker 4: I feel a little bit more optimistic that they can
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: cold weather that maybe it's a Lomu at left guard.
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: I don't it would be Campbell, but maybe it is
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: Campbell at left guard. But I think they were showing
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: us in the spring poll that they might call on
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: Lomu to play that spot if Vera Tucker were to
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: go down with another injury. So I feel pretty good
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: about that group. I think Wilson's going to be all
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: right at center. You know, the question is to me,
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: are how much better can they be? You know, can
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: they are they going to be? Last year they were
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: take out the playoffs all league average, and it obviously
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: fell off the rails a little bit in the playoffs,
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: but they are league average last year, and that was
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: such a remarkable improvement from worse than the league to
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: like the fifteenth best offensive line was so seismic of
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: an improvement that it felt like they were you know,
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: this great group, they still weren't you know, nearly as
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: good as some of the other top lines in football.
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: So I would like to see them go from can
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: they go from the sixteenth best offensive line league average
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: to top ten?
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: The question? You know, and we saw last year, you know,
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: when Jared Wilson went down and Ben Brown stepped in,
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: there wasn't really much of a drop off. Some would
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: argue that it was actually an upgrade at that point.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: So when you when you're breaking it down the way
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: you are, you know, if it doesn't work out for
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: Wilson at center, Ben Brown played a whole year of
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: center that people forget now because it was such a
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: lost season. So I feel pretty good about that backup.
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: And if Lomu has the ability to back up at
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: those you know, three or four different spots, if you
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: could play guard or tackle on either side, that's that's
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: a significant upgrade. You have a first round pick who
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: is able to be you know, a much better option
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: as a backup than what you've had. So I think
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: that the chances for the offensive line to be better
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: are there. Again, got to stay healthy and you got
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: to prove it.
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say, you know, if Lomo too.
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: The the hope is is that I feel like Ben
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: Brown would probably come in Paul if they needed mid game,
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: if Vera Tucker gets hurt and it's in the second
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: quarter of the game. But long term, if you're going
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: to miss Vera Tucker for two months out of the season,
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: then maybe that's Lomu's opportunity to play. But I would
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: think if it's a spot start, if it's half something
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: like that, then they'd probably rely on Ben Brown.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: So Robert is looking at your ball knowing prowess, being
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: the All twenty two tzar, He's wondering if maybe Paul
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: and the czar you know, you know z A Rye
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: in my last name and you've heard that one to
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: play off your name and your ball knowing expertise good
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: which I'm not here to give any credit to in
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: credence at all. Let's see Andrew from Maine, Paul evan
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: great job holding down the fort. What that best? Yeah,
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: I'll take the bait and disagree with Christian from La
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: Lomu wasn't the tackle I wanted, but the last elige
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: I have in the first round, and he was the
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: right call. Vera Tucker was a stellar signing if healthy
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: and if he's not healthy. Now we have depth to
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: cover some gaps. Oh Gilliam and aj go without saying.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: We needed a tight end and we at least got
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: rere it in Acus. I believe uh Accus I loved
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: before finding out he was injured. Who knows. I didn't
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: like much in the later rounds. But that's not taking
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: wild But that's just taking wild shots anyway. I do
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: love Christian as the heel of the show though, plays
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: up his villain role well, and he's always entertaining. Enjoy
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: that Oregon drive. The countryside out there is beautiful. So yeah,
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: I mean, I don't. I think you've talked about the
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: draft a lot in the differences between this year and
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: last year. Last year you were expecting and hoping and
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: expecting immediate contributions. This year you're probably not. This year,
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: you'd probably be pretty satisfied if you got a bunch
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: of guys that would figure much more into the picture
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: next year than this year.
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: I think that's the only generally.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Speaking, beautiful goal Norway.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: There you go, wasn't either somebody else finally scored for Norway.
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: I generally speaking, I came out of the draft, feeling
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: a bit underwhelmed, and I kind of went did some
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: soul searching Paul, as one does, and said, is this
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: about me? Or is this about what they actually did?
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: And I think it's a combination. I think that I'm
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: a draft guy and to pick at the end of
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: the round everyway, and you know, throughout the draft, and
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: not get the guy that you really wanted, you know,
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: just to use the first round because it's the easiest.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: I was really high on Maxiano Chor and that was
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: the guy that I wanted. He didn't He wasn't the
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: one that fell, you know, Lomu was the one that fell.
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: Is So does that make them wrong for taking Lomu? No,
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: it doesn't make them wrong. It just means that it
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: wasn't quite the home run that I was hoping that
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: they were going to get. You know, Heanitor ended up
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: going what eight picks higher, I want to say, twenty two,
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: twenty three, maybe somewhere around there, so five or six
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: picks higher that that was. That's who I wanted and
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: that's not who they came out with. And I think
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: that's what happens when you picked there, you know, the
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: tight ends like there were guys that I preferred over
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: Eli Raridan that again didn't make it to the end
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: of the third round for them to draft them there.
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: So is that anybody's fault.
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: Probably not, you know, Acus we were on the same
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: page with But it just felt a little bit underwhelming.
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: And I think a lot of that stem from the
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: fact that they weren't picking top ten, they were picking
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: thirty first, and so they didn't get the guys that
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: we all talked about for six months. I guess accus maybe,
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: but for the most part that that is what it is.
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: Hopefully that those guys end up being good.
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: Still, No, I mean, I would agree with with your assessment,
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: and yeah, I think on paper and you just kind
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: of look at it and assess the draft, it's not
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: going to blow you away. But and then this is
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: where you know, I get some criticism, people say that
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: I'm being disingenuous. I just feel like whenever a guy
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: is good immediately people are very quick to say it's
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: a great draft pick. Yeah, But when a guy doesn't
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: do anything right away, most people say, well, you have
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: to give it a couple of years. So now I'm
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: trying to give it a couple of years and people
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: are like, why are you doing this? I'm like, just
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: because they don't play immediately. If Lomu doesn't play, because
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: Will Campbell has improved in year two and Morgan Moses
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: stays healthy, I don't think that that's an indictment on Lomu. No, Now,
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: if you're struggling at tackle and Lomo can't get on
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: the field, I don't need two three years to determine that.
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: Obviously they don't think much of Lomu. If Will Campbell
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: is playing the way he did in the playoffs last
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: year for the first five, six, seven weeks of the season,
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: and Lomu's still on the bench, that will be an
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: indictment of the pick as well as as Campbell. So like,
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: I just I'm not ready to say because he's not
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: scheduled to play a huge role in year one, that
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: means he stinks.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: And it also doesn't mean it's the wrong pick, you know,
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: because if he doesn't play year one, but then he played,
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: or he's not starter year one, but then in year two,
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: right he is a full time starter, and then he's
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: a full time starter for the next ten years, then
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: that didn't make the you know, then the pick wasn't
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: a bad pick. And I think you know, that's the
- 1:41:34Speaker 4: way that you have to look at these drafts now.
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: It's a combination of they're in a place now where
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: they're filling out depth on the roster. You hope a
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: lot of these guys are gonna be pieces that can
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: fill out the roster. You know, I'll use it an
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: example like a Karen Prunty. Can he can Karan Prunty
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: be the fourth or fifth corner on this team. He's
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: not gonna be better than Christian Zalez and Carlton Davis
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: and Marcus Jones, but can he be depth? Like that's
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: what they're drafting for now, absolutely drafting to phill. They
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: don't need a franchise left tackle, hopefully, they don't need
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: a quarterback. They don't need a number one wide receiver,
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: they don't need a number one corner Like these are
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: positions they already filled that That's why they were in
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: the super Bowl last year.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: So it's funny that the jersey wearing argument just won't die.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Barton Poland, Yes, uh, back to the jersey wearing argument,
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: you're against wearing sports jerseys as adults. You also seem
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: you also seem to. So I guess seem to see
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: soccer fans at this World Cup fans almost exclusively wearing
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: jerseys to games. Is it also lame? I just would
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: argue a little, a.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Little fashion wise, I think soccer jerseys don't look cool anyway.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: So the US Stars and stripes is a great picture
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: right there.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Even like the look, it's the actual design of the
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: shirts to tighten places.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: It is tight. Yeah, that that that part of it
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: is the part I didn't.
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: I thought that was just the ones they give Fred
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: that ends up being a.
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: Little Fred fills him out, He orders the extra small
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: so that he looks jacked.
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I mean again, I don't tell people
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: if you if you feel comfortable wearing it. It's not
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: something I would ever do. But like, if you feel
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: comfortable wearing it, wear it? Do you care what people don't?
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: I was like thirteen when I stopped caring about what
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: people thought about what I was wearing.
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: But to teach his own, Yeah, that argument never ends apparently.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: No, no, which I kind of like it.
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: People really don't like it.
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: Do you? And I think it's John in La right,
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: my buddy John, who was the screenwriter for some TV shows.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: I don't know if this is a little bit of
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: trivia that I'm not sure you're aware of. V In
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: the past, he worked on some TV shows and he
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: used to write our names into them.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I heard about this.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: So we had some like characters on various names, and
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: he was wondering if he's been up to his old tricks.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: I think it is John in l A. He just
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: started watching The Prodigal Sun. I highly recommend it if
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: you haven't watched it. It's a criminal show about a
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: former FBI profile or who helps the NYPD solve homicides.
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: One of the killer's names in one of the episodes
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: is Paul Lazarre. I was wondering if this was our
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: friend giving an Easter egg for PU listeners or just
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: a wild coincidence. My guess is it's just a wild coincidence.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: We could probably look up if he's on the show.
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: But I haven't talked. I haven't spoken to John about it.
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: Usually he lets us know. He did it with In
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: Plain Sight, I think was the last one he had
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: all of us in it. You know, Chris Ferreira was
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: in it. He took a swan dive off the Tobin bridge.
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: As going to be there.
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: There we go. You got you got the clips?
- 1:44:50Speaker 13: Do you.
- 1:44:53Speaker 10: Dive off we river Bridge three hours ago?
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: Oh no, not for rare.
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: It took a swan dive f that that's that's actually
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: the Mystic river Bridge, which no one calls it. That
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: we are this close to taking on the s OB's wife. Yeah,
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: he wrote us all into various episodes, and it's fun
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: for the meeting.
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: I mean, I do find like that it is an
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: interesting thing because you do want the names like to
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: be semi believable, so just name them after real people
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: and then they're all there.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: So I guess there's all there's a bunch of like,
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: not everybody can be John Smith. There's regulations that they
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: have to follow. If there's somebody of that name, they
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: have to get some kind of permission or whatever. So
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: like there are some legal logistics they have to go through.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: But I cause I don't I don't think Andy was
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: able to get his name fully in. I think they
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: I forget probably a pretty popular they call him Jimmy Hart,
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: Jimmy Jimmy Hutt.
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: We did some TV watching the couple, so.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: I was just gonna ask, you're winding up here only
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: about ten minutes left? What what anything on them?
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: We watched?
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: I did watch the last season of The Bear.
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: That's I was just up. We brought the We brought
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: the last season. Spoiler alert if you you know, don't
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: want it spoiled, then you know.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: This is this is just stop.
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: Warning. Uh yeah, we watched the final season of The Bear.
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: I thought it it wrapped up pretty well, you know,
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: I thought it was pretty very Barry. So you know,
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: it's basically one set. You know, it's just in the restaurant,
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: and it's kind of just one day more or less
- 1:46:32Speaker 4: that it is basically the whole season. But I I
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: thought that they put I figured it would be like
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: a nice, wholesome ending. It wasn't going to be a
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: sad ending.
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: I was hoping for something that was uplifting.
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: Yeah, so I'm not surprised. Obviously, the the completion. I
- 1:46:46Speaker 4: think the best part of the entire show to me
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: is the completion of Richie and just the from start
- 1:46:52Speaker 4: to finish, and obviously the little did you watch Gary?
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: The Little Like, uh, you didn't watch it? So there's
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: another episode that's called Gary. I think it is like
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: Gary Indiana. It's on Hulu if you want to find it,
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: and it's it's a back in time and it's Richie
- 1:47:12Speaker 4: with the brother the brothers alive in this episode and
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: the little you know in the opening scene when he
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: gets into the Richie gets into a car accident in
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: the season and he's thinking he's daydreaming about something. That's
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: the Gary episode. So it's a little like prelude, you know,
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: to the season. And I just ending it with him
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: obviously getting together with the girl and and everything, and
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: like does that total from start to finish is like
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: something some of the best like television character development writing
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: that you're ever going to see.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: But that's what I'm talking about. I want characters that
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: I can sort of unbelievable, I can sort of get
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: an idea of I want to I want to try
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: to relate to these characters and learn about them. I
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: did think the first couple I was like, this is
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: like the Bears doing this to me again, Like this
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: is just like nothing happening, It's this this stinks. And
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: then it got maybe like the last four, I was like, okay,
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: we're back. Yeah, And I think the second to last
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: one I thought was tremendous, you know, when they go
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: through the whole ten minute, right, you know, and they
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: have to turn everything over. Carmie I thought was great.
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: In the last season, he's been such a jerk and
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: he kind of just mellowed. So yeah, I didn't. I
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: enjoyed the wrap up. I thought that was a good
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: way to you know, and I don't think it got
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: too small toy or sappy.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: Maybe a little bit with the birthday party at the end,
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: but I'm there for it.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: It was it was a season well because it was
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: and it was Richie too, so you know, that was
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: as much about Richie as anything.
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it was good. It was good.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: The cooking aspects of it are are really cool, and
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: I like, I wonder, you know.
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: I'd love to see how they do that.
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: You know, how do they They obviously have to either
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: it's like food art or they actually cook the food.
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: I don't know, but like they the food looks amazing
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: and it's a TV.
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: Show, so like funny thing is is like it does
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: look it's so exquisitely made, right and you're looking at it,
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: but almost none of it, I mean, short ribs, yeah,
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: but most of the stuff they make And I'm like,
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: I don't even know what that is. Yeah, oh no,
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: you know like that.
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: You know, but when he when they're missing the topping
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: for the Sunday and he just like makes it out
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: of thin air, like out of a couple of ingredients
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: and sciences it together.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: It was.
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: It was really good.
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: I I I guess the only part that I was
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: kind of confused. Not confused, but you know, just being
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: realist for a second. You know that restaurant without KARMI like,
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: I don't, I don't really no offense, but.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: It's not it's not gonna work.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: Yeah, Like you're not going to be getting Michelin stars
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: without without two.
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Like you're not going to be doing that. So
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: didn't you think that was predictable? It's like just predicted it.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: She was like I actually said, do we get a star?
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: And yeah, yeah? And I looked at that they go
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: we got two? Yeah, and I was like, nailed it. Yeah.
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: Michelin's starting to hand out I assume that they don't
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: call it Michelin, probably because they're not sponsored or something
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: like that, but that's what it's like for They started
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: handing out stars in Boston, so there's uh, there's some
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: restaurants in Boston now that are either have stars or
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: like on like the watch list, like the Michelin suggestion,
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: sot I was.
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: I thought it was really funny the way they put
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: that family that they brought back, and the guy just
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: got so into it. Yeah, I was thinking for sure
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: that this has to be somebody like a like a
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: chef or something like that's the guy that's rating him
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: or something like that. Like they were so nice to
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: this guy and he was so annoyed by him, but
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: they didn't do anything about it. They let him be
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: and then they're gonna get rewarded for it, because it's
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: really going to be the reviewer or the star, you
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: know whatever. But no, nothing, you just want them to
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: hang out.
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: Another question for you, Jadarius of football question This is
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: more like in the middle. That's why. That's why I'm
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: going to jam it in before we leave. It's a
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: question for it's a random one for Evan. You're the
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: head coach, Evin Lazar, h C. Evan Lazar. You have
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: to assemble your coordinators from members of the p U crew. Well,
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: you're picking offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, special team.
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: Well does the defense?
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: So I'll make him just ask him I'll make him
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: the defensive coordinator.
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: You're you're like my clock management guy. You're you're stretch.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: You know, I have to be the offensive coordinator. But
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: you're calling their home plays though, because what you're giving
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: that up?
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm just stretched? Okay, I can live with that.
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: I say this all the time.
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: If in my hypothetical, you know, ego expanding quickly here,
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: thought that I could ever coach in the NFL, my
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: that would be my biggest flaw would be running the
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: clock and all that kind of stuff. So either you
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: or Barth would have to help me with that. There's
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: no way I could do that on my own. But yeah,
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: I mean, if i'm if I'm the head coach, I'm
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: calling the plays.
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: You know that.
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: So whoever the offensive coordinator is is just there for
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: for show? You know, we don't really know what those
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: offensive coordinators do, no.
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: I mean, you know, are they are they sequencing plays
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: or they just randomly calling plays? Is the difference between
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: a play caller and a guy just calling plays?
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: That's true.
- 1:52:25Speaker 4: I think that we've seen that here of close and personal.
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: But the guy that knows what he you know, how
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: to call plays like Josh McDaniels versus some other play
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: callers that we've had here, that maybe.
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: Fred doesn't do a good job of deleting the emails.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: Just going back to like.
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: It's a different email account for Fred.
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm going back to April.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: Fred uses his own special email when everybody else hose
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: I sent him all to these?
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: Well, isn't he special? Isn't he special?
- 1:52:52Speaker 6: The boss man?
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: What do we got here? Let me a quick baseball
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: question for Paul Oh, I'm intrigued. Can you explain to
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: me how the catcher? I'm sorry, this is from David
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: in Venice, Florida, formerly Plainville, Mass. Jeff Plimpton right, plain Ville, Mass.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: Former Red Sox. Can you explain how the catcher calls
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: the pitches?
- 1:53:13Speaker 9: Now?
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: I know the catcher has a microphone in his helmet,
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: but I see no earpiece for the picture, and I
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: don't see the catcher flashing the sign. I've been away
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: from baseball, but I have to watch it now because
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: my oldest sister has come to live with me.
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: I'm sorry, but we're explaining where a man's playing pitch.
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: Calm. So they do have a little earpiece, do they not?
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: Like the picture has it, like.
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: Both the catcher and the picture. Yeah, they have.
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: I thought that this was I swear to god, I
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: had not known that.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: Oh really, I thought this was like super common knowledge.
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: But I'm a huge nerd, so like maybe this is
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: for me.
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: But you did that start happening.
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: Right around the Astro sign stealing scandal four or five
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: years ago. So they they they each have a little
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: transponder that's about a big and it it has you know, numbers,
- 1:53:59Speaker 4: are pictures pitches on a fastball, curveball, change up, whatever,
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: and you hit the button now and the button will
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: say in the ear of the pitcher, fastball, curveball, change up.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: And I think so that way they can't steal the signs.
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: The cool thing about PitchCom too, is it speaks like
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: one hundred different languages or something crazy like that, because
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: not everybody speaks English, so they can make it say
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: in Japanese, they can make it say it in Spanish
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: and Portuguese like whatever language the pitcher speaks. And I
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: think you can have the catcher's side can be English
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: and then the other side can be Spanish, so you
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: can have a full conversation in terms of pitching through
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: PitchCom I didn't realize that that needed to be explained.
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: But I think that the problem is I don't think
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: the guy realized the pitcher does have your piece. Yes,
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: you see, especially catchers, like when they throw, like you know,
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: they're trying to catch a guy stealing their mask, generally
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: gets jostle. You can often see like the wires just
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: like hanging yep.
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: I think what's interesting too is that they really you
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: don't see guys get crossed up anymore because it's very
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: cut and dry, like I call the fastball, and so
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: you know, you used to see back in the day,
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: like a pitcher would throw ninety eight and the catcher's
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: expecting a curveball and all of a sudden it's ninety
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: eight over his head. You don't really see that too
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: much anymore. How about those Red Sox.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: POULI you know, and I did get a chance to
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: text a little bit back and forth with the Fredial
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: very excited and now he's you know, you know what
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: he is. He's proud of them, he's proud of.
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: Them, he's thanking them for finally he's.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: Proud of them. No, but you know, caught the Yankees
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: at a perfect time. The Yankees were really struggling to
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: score runs. There's still state that three more just three
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: hits last night, no judge, no Stanton. Yeah, so they're struggling.
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: Red Sox took advantage. The Red Sox pitching has been
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: really good all year for the most part. The starting
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: pitching has been excellent. Their bullpen's been a little leaky
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: at times. And Chapman all of a sudden, Chapman, Yeah,
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: not a good one. You want to sort of deal them. Yeah,
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: I'm still hoping that this hot streak doesn't dissuade them
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: from because I really think that they can get some
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: interesting pieces for some of the guys that they could trade.
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: I saw the earlier.
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: They won five in a row and they chopped a
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: game off the wild card lead.
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: I saw their their playoff odds up to nineteen percent,
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: and I was like, oh, I'm not doing this.
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: This is not good. I'm not doing not good.
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: MAV But watching them the other night, even the implosion
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: that happened in that nine and to get that game
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: into extra innings.
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I was avery fortunate to win in and give
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: give the Red Sox cars tent or whatever. It was
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: a tent. They give two in the top of the
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: tent and got three in the bottom.
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: When I watched that, I was like, I don't care
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: that they squeak this one out.
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: This is still bad baseball. Like, you know, Bray, you
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: just throwing.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: I know a lot's going on with him with Venezuela
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: and stuff, but he just threw the ball, you know,
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: nowhere into no man's land, gave up another run. I
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: was like, I'm not convinced that any of this is sustainable,
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: you know, replicable, whatever word you.
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: Want to use. I'm not taking any baity.
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I would, I would agree with you. Before we go,
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: I just want to say you will be here tomorrow.
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: You and Alex catch twenty two at the normal time,
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: twelve o'clock noon to two. I'm here from Foxborough. I
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: have not received anything back from the boss man, so
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: I'm making an executive decision. We are not going to
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: be with you on Thursday. It's the start of the
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: holiday week here in the US, Big Fourth of July
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty celebration. You know, Morell is celebrating
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: in the other room behind the glass.
- 1:57:30Speaker 6: I got the Patriot on repeat.
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: But you know, Fred's on vacation, Deuce is on vacation,
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: Alex is on vacation. It's just Evan and I. It's
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: it's a it's a half day here in the organization.
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: So I have made the executive decision to say.
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: I think it's fair.
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: We're gonna we're gonna call call it on on Wednesday.
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: So Wednesday will be Catch twenty two with Evan, Lazar
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: and Alex Barth. We will not be with you on Thursday.
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: We'll be back next week. I think Evan, you'll be
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: on vacation. I will be here next week. I believe
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: Fred and Mike we'll be back, so we'll be able
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: to to get back to the PU crew at that time.
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: But this was a reasonably quick two hours with really
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: not a whole lot to talk about. I thought we
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: got by with a couple of a lot of football, Yeah,
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: a couple of off season topics and lists. I think
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: lists generally lend themselves the decent talk, So morell you
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: get anything special?
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: Plan for the fourth I actually have a lot. I
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: gotta go into a couple of different parties. Is going
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: to be very intoxicated and celebrating. It's going to be great.
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: This is true. So in other words, it's going to
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: be a day that ends in day.
- 1:58:31Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, day that ends in day.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Truly Morell's it's the second best holiday of the whole year.
- 1:58:37Speaker 6: The first one is the Marine Corps.
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: I was literally about to say the Marine Corps bird.
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: So I do. I do love the Fourth of July
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: me too, Like it's a perfect time for me. I
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: just love the vibe and I usually spend it with birth.
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: You know what I even have sometimes on the Fourth
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: of July is your fruity little drinks like things like that. Yeah,
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: once in a while, be like, let me try one
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: of those.
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: Because you're just drinking all day. Yeah whatever, high noons, Okay,
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: don't don't don't do sun cruisers, all right.
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: So, as I say, just drinking all day, stay safe,
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: everybody happy.
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna be very hot.
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: Everything in moderation, hydrate properly, not just with alcohol. But
- 1:59:17Speaker 2: I want to thank everybody for joining us. Evan and
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: Paul got through a skeleton cruise show with no problems
- 1:59:23Speaker 2: and that was because of you guys. So we'll see
- 1:59:25Speaker 2: you next week.
- 1:59:28Speaker 6: Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 1:59:30Speaker 19: If you really want to help us, make sure you
- 1:59:32Speaker 19: like us wherever you get your podcasts, like Apple Podcasts
- 1:59:34Speaker 19: or Spotify. Also make sure you follow us on the
- 1:59:37Speaker 19: New England Patriots YouTube channel to see this show and
- 1:59:39Speaker 19: everything else that we do here at the Patriots.
- 1:59:41Speaker 6: Thanks a lot,
