- 0:05Speaker 2: In Atlantic City.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well after free agency day one, we're on to day
- 0:10Speaker 1: two and second verse. Just like the first, not much
- 0:14Speaker 1: happening here in Philadelphia.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Things are happening.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Around the league, but Howie Roseman is not getting involved yet.
- 0:22Speaker 2: What will happen? What could happen?
- 0:24Speaker 1: We're gonna recap it all right now with Adam Kaplan
- 0:27Speaker 1: from the Inside of the Birds podcast. Inside the Birds
- 0:29Speaker 1: dot Com your source for Eagles Intel. You can listen
- 0:32Speaker 1: to the podcast on all podcasting platforms. Adam Kaplan is
- 0:37Speaker 1: here as the Eagles staying quiet. But Adam, they are
- 0:40Speaker 1: losing players. Not any surprises. Maybe Jalen Phillips though, So
- 0:44Speaker 1: let's start with Phillips yesterday because he got the ball
- 0:46Speaker 1: rolling with a thirty million dollars deal to go to
- 0:50Speaker 1: Carolina and that really put things all out of whack
- 0:53Speaker 1: for Philadelphia.
- 0:54Speaker 3: From Jump Street, Yeah, no doubt, Mike, Yet we we
- 0:56Speaker 3: hat Inside the Birds. We talked last week. We for
- 0:59Speaker 3: what we heard the Eagles were expecting to lose Blanket
- 1:01Speaker 3: Ship and Dean. That was going to happen. It happened,
- 1:04Speaker 3: and they really wanted Jalen Philips back, and they made
- 1:07Speaker 3: a lot of progress on Sunday. But it's just really ironic.
- 1:10Speaker 3: The Panthers got screwed over for Milton Williams. They were
- 1:15Speaker 3: fairly close last year to signing them and then New
- 1:17Speaker 3: England came in at the last minute and took them away,
- 1:21Speaker 3: and that was it. The Carolina did not make a counter.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Once New England gave Milt Williams that amazing deal, which
- 1:30Speaker 3: went up being four years at twenty six million per season,
- 1:34Speaker 3: which is more than they budgeted, they decided not to
- 1:38Speaker 3: match try to match at New Orleand's offer, so he walked.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Milt Williams did to New England and then with this
- 1:44Speaker 3: situation Carolina again. Carolina got screwed over last season. They
- 1:48Speaker 3: were not going to miss on Jalen Phillips. They went
- 1:51Speaker 3: quite frankly, way over what the market value should have
- 1:54Speaker 3: been for Jalen Phillips. But Mike, it's free agency. Wild
- 1:58Speaker 3: things happened. We brought up the wildness in twenty twenty
- 2:03Speaker 3: of Byron Jones and the Eagles were a finalist for
- 2:05Speaker 3: Byron Jones. They actually had a better offer than the
- 2:09Speaker 3: Dolphins did, but he did not want to play out East,
- 2:11Speaker 3: and these since happened, Mike sometimes and the Eagles cash
- 2:14Speaker 3: budget largely for free agency was going to go to
- 2:17Speaker 3: Jalen Phillips. That was going to be it save a
- 2:20Speaker 3: couple of small moves. But now they didn't spend that
- 2:24Speaker 3: money that they budgeted, so they actually have some money
- 2:27Speaker 3: to spend here. But Mike, the names are dwindling down now,
- 2:31Speaker 3: but they still have the same needs though. You should
- 2:33Speaker 3: know that.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they got the.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Same needs because they haven't really added anything yet, well
- 2:36Speaker 1: not really anything.
- 2:37Speaker 2: No, they haven't added anything.
- 2:39Speaker 1: What about the edge rusher market now that Phillips is gone?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Is there you know we've been hearing, you know, some
- 2:45Speaker 1: possible trades. Bradley Chubb is still available. Is there a
- 2:49Speaker 1: guy they turned their attention to a trade or do
- 2:52Speaker 1: they still get involved in a free agency to fix
- 2:55Speaker 1: that position?
- 2:55Speaker 3: All right? Technically probably Chubb will not be released till
- 2:58Speaker 3: four pm Eastern tomorrow, saying with their it's for cap purposes.
- 3:01Speaker 3: That's that's what the Dolphins have to do now. It
- 3:05Speaker 3: would be almost stunning if the Eagles didn't show interest
- 3:09Speaker 3: in Bradley Chubb. Why it's an obvious fit. He played
- 3:12Speaker 3: for Vic Fangio in Denver and Miami. It's a plug
- 3:17Speaker 3: and play type player. He'll get them out of a
- 3:19Speaker 3: tough spot for probably two seasons. I mean, you could
- 3:22Speaker 3: sign them for a two year deal something like that.
- 3:24Speaker 3: He actually stated, and Mess a game last season for
- 3:26Speaker 3: the Dolphins. Played well. But the Dolphins, Mike, they made
- 3:29Speaker 3: a decision that they're going to be in a total rebuild.
- 3:32Speaker 3: They had a bad roster, bad football team, bad coaching staff.
- 3:35Speaker 3: They fired everybody pretty much and they started over. And
- 3:39Speaker 3: that's what John rx Sullivan the GM did. He decided
- 3:43Speaker 3: that they were going to viscerate the roster. He's done that.
- 3:46Speaker 3: They're gonna have a new quarterback in Miami and now
- 3:48Speaker 3: Malik Willis. Was no surprise. Everyone kind of knew that
- 3:50Speaker 3: was going to happen because the two were which with
- 3:53Speaker 3: each other in Green Bay and they're rebuilding that roster.
- 3:56Speaker 3: So now if you look at what the Eagles need, yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 3: they they need to add two edge rushers. And it
- 4:03Speaker 3: doesn't have to come in any variety. Could come in
- 4:05Speaker 3: free agency, it could come in in the trade market,
- 4:08Speaker 3: or it could come in the draft or what's called
- 4:10Speaker 3: the release market. It's kind of like the NFL the
- 4:12Speaker 3: NBA buyout market. So who's out there, Mike. The guys
- 4:16Speaker 3: that are out there are all pretty much mid level
- 4:18Speaker 3: free Asians except for Trey Henderson. Henderson it's believed that
- 4:22Speaker 3: he's gonna win a mim of thirty million per season. Well,
- 4:26Speaker 3: now we're almost done. Day two, Mike, the money. The
- 4:29Speaker 3: money typically Day three drops now he's not played in this,
- 4:33Speaker 3: He's not played in a thirty four front before. This
- 4:36Speaker 3: is not a good fit for him. So it just
- 4:38Speaker 3: we don't see the fit. You never say never are
- 4:41Speaker 3: There are a lot of guys out there, Mike, quite frankly,
- 4:44Speaker 3: are all mid level free Asians chasing the edge rusher
- 4:47Speaker 3: for New England's played in the thirty four for a
- 4:50Speaker 3: lot of his career. Joey Bowse is out there, clown,
- 4:55Speaker 3: he's out there. I don't have a Keetti Dante Fowler.
- 4:58Speaker 3: It's just it's just not a great they're all mid level. Now.
- 5:01Speaker 3: The guy that could potentially trade for Jonathan Grenard, who's
- 5:06Speaker 3: a good football player, he's underpaid. The Vikings are one
- 5:10Speaker 3: of the few NFL teams that has a true cap issue.
- 5:13Speaker 3: They're listening to offers Grenard. By the way, his two
- 5:18Speaker 3: years left on this deal, and he's making nineteen million
- 5:21Speaker 3: a season and it's now undervalued. So if you trade
- 5:23Speaker 3: for him, you almost certainly going to have to redo
- 5:25Speaker 3: his deal.
- 5:26Speaker 1: All right, So there's the edge rushing situation. Let's go
- 5:29Speaker 1: into Kobe Dean. He obviously was a guy we all
- 5:31Speaker 1: thought would be gone. He goes to the Raiders and
- 5:34Speaker 1: it has peers that John Campbell will obviously move into
- 5:37Speaker 1: this bud. There was a report that they have made
- 5:39Speaker 1: calls on Patrick Queen, which seems to be a little odd,
- 5:43Speaker 1: but you would imagine Campbell steps in there. Dean, thank
- 5:47Speaker 1: you for your service. Did a great job, but we
- 5:49Speaker 1: drafted Campbell and that move had to be made.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Yeah, Patrick Queen is a good football player. Now, Patrick
- 5:55Speaker 3: Queen is on the last year of his deal. He's
- 5:58Speaker 3: going to make just over thirteen million, and by the way,
- 6:01Speaker 3: the Steelers, the Steelers have to make a decision on
- 6:03Speaker 3: his contract. I don't know why he wouldn't come back.
- 6:06Speaker 3: He's got a roster bonus due on Saturday, so it's
- 6:09Speaker 3: a two point five million and then I'll get him
- 6:11Speaker 3: over thirteen million until cash for the season. But when
- 6:14Speaker 3: you look at the Egal situation or John Campbell is
- 6:16Speaker 3: widely expected to start that that's why they made a
- 6:19Speaker 3: decision not to bring back Dean, and then they got
- 6:22Speaker 3: a safety problem. It is completely wide open, miket safety Now.
- 6:25Speaker 3: The good thing is with Lancaship leaving, there is an
- 6:29Speaker 3: upside here. It is a buyer's market at safety. The
- 6:32Speaker 3: safety and markets moved a little bit, but there are
- 6:35Speaker 3: a lot of good safeties out there. Nick Cross is
- 6:37Speaker 3: a good football player of the Colts, ja Kwan Risker.
- 6:40Speaker 3: He might remember from Penn State of the Bears, Kyle
- 6:43Speaker 3: Dugar's career. I don't know. He's completely fallen off. Who
- 6:47Speaker 3: signed a big extension with the Patriots. Less than a
- 6:52Speaker 3: year later they wanted him off the roster and in
- 6:55Speaker 3: wind up going to Pittsburgh and he's a free agent.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Andrew Cisco's out there, who had a great career at
- 6:59Speaker 3: Sarah Hughes. Donovan Wilson of the Cowboys is out there, Mike.
- 7:04Speaker 3: It is a buyer's market. I don't worry too much
- 7:06Speaker 3: about safety, but edge rusher is a real issue right
- 7:10Speaker 3: now for the Eagles.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously that you mentioned safety because reed blanket ship
- 7:14Speaker 1: he went to Houston with the Texans, so he is
- 7:17Speaker 1: now gone. He's a guy too, by the way, undrafted
- 7:19Speaker 1: rookie free agent stepped in his second year and has
- 7:22Speaker 1: started fifty games for this team and it's been kind
- 7:24Speaker 1: of rock solid. And you know, I contend, I don't
- 7:26Speaker 1: think he really wanted to leave, but I don't know
- 7:28Speaker 1: that he had much of a choice based on the
- 7:30Speaker 1: deal that he got from Houston.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But you're going with Andrew mccoba.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You've said many times on football and four Adam that
- 7:36Speaker 1: Sidney Brown just a special teamers. So they're gonna have
- 7:40Speaker 1: to find probably another starter, I guess in free agency
- 7:43Speaker 1: then right.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Now, Michael Carter, theffree structure is do We kind
- 7:47Speaker 3: of hinted on this at last week the reports that
- 7:50Speaker 3: he was gonna be cover were false. They had interested
- 7:52Speaker 3: in bringing him back because, as we first reported at
- 7:56Speaker 3: the time of the trade from the Jets, Eagles are
- 7:57Speaker 3: going to cross treatment at safety. Why he was a
- 8:01Speaker 3: really good safety at Duke and then the the Jets
- 8:05Speaker 3: move to Nickel where he excelled. So the guy's a
- 8:07Speaker 3: good football player. He kind of fell off with the
- 8:09Speaker 3: Jets and Eagles wanted to do business with him. They're
- 8:12Speaker 3: going to bring him back, so he might be in
- 8:13Speaker 3: the mix next to Makova, Cidney Brand forget about it,
- 8:17Speaker 3: Mac McWilliams. They have not cross trated safety, although he
- 8:20Speaker 3: potentially could play safety, but they're really like there. And
- 8:23Speaker 3: Andrey sam is back by the way, but he's more
- 8:26Speaker 3: of a force safety. So yeah, Mike, this I can't remember.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Maybe you do, but I don't remember an Eagles team
- 8:32Speaker 3: going to the offseason with so many needs. I caution people,
- 8:35Speaker 3: today is March tenth, It is not September fifth. Relax.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I've learned my lesson. When I don't see this particular
- 8:43Speaker 3: team doing a lot of work early, it doesn't really
- 8:46Speaker 3: matter all that much. I get concerned about it when
- 8:49Speaker 3: we get to training camp. If if they had eight needs,
- 8:52Speaker 3: then you guys, you guys could scream, and you know
- 8:55Speaker 3: I have no problem with that. Get through the rift.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Let's get through the draft vers and by the way
- 8:59Speaker 3: to the freeesi and signings after the draft in Egos history,
- 9:04Speaker 3: and they would not have won a Super Bowl without
- 9:05Speaker 3: either player. Makai Beckton signed after the draft in twenty
- 9:09Speaker 3: twenty four and l Garrett Blount's Blunt signed after the
- 9:11Speaker 3: draft in twenty seventeen.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Very true.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Relax, Let's get Adam your opinion on Romeo Dobbs with
- 9:18Speaker 1: the Patriots four years eighty. Everybody obviously feels, all right,
- 9:21Speaker 1: what does that mean for the Patriots? AJ Brown? Where
- 9:25Speaker 1: are you on AJ Brown? Do you think that rules
- 9:27Speaker 1: AJ Brown and the Patriots marriage out?
- 9:30Speaker 3: No, but I think it's less likely. We never do percentages, Mike.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I know that they are expecting Dobbs to have a big,
- 9:37Speaker 3: realm told for the with the Patriots. They'll they'll use
- 9:40Speaker 3: him as a move receiver. He can pull it up inside,
- 9:43Speaker 3: he could line up outside. He's he's just a really
- 9:47Speaker 3: good fit. The thing is, they're only paying one receiver
- 9:50Speaker 3: tops seventeen million season. They're not paying anyone even over
- 9:53Speaker 3: five million opposite him. Matt Collins is still here. It's
- 9:56Speaker 3: amazing they need another receiver. But I get the feeling
- 10:00Speaker 3: that they don't think they need now that they have Dobbs,
- 10:03Speaker 3: that they need to do anything significant. I don't rule
- 10:05Speaker 3: it out, Mike. It's less likely to happen because AJ
- 10:09Speaker 3: Brown is going to make twenty nine million, and the
- 10:12Speaker 3: Patriots typically don't tie up that much money at receiver.
- 10:16Speaker 3: So look, my sense is based on what I was
- 10:20Speaker 3: told that the Patriots thought the ask was absurd from
- 10:23Speaker 3: the Eagles, and I'm just telling you that's what I've heard.
- 10:28Speaker 3: But I do know this. I told people that we
- 10:30Speaker 3: put this on Football at four in our shows three
- 10:32Speaker 3: years ago as well, before Mike Rabel got there. The
- 10:34Speaker 3: Patriots called the Eagles before AJ's last extension. They called
- 10:40Speaker 3: him a year before that. They've loved them. I mean,
- 10:45Speaker 3: it's not just Mike Rabel being there. There's at least
- 10:47Speaker 3: two coaches on that staff. Rabel and that think of
- 10:49Speaker 3: receivers coach are with them in Tennessee. But it's the
- 10:53Speaker 3: general Elliott Wolf is technically not the general manager, but
- 10:57Speaker 3: he runs personnel. He's loved him, so I don't roll
- 11:00Speaker 3: it out. But Mike, there's only so much cash, and
- 11:04Speaker 3: it's sure for cap purposes, the Eagles have to hold.
- 11:09Speaker 3: They have to hold the cap number. Anyway, if they
- 11:11Speaker 3: traded them now, if they traded May thirty first, it
- 11:13Speaker 3: won't matter in terms of the cap. You can't get
- 11:16Speaker 3: the you can't get the benefit of the post June
- 11:19Speaker 3: one until after June one. Anyway. I mean, they could
- 11:22Speaker 3: take it through the draft, Mic, but again, to move
- 11:25Speaker 3: this forward, it's less likely to happen.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's why you know at this point,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, if you're Philadelphia, it probably benefits you to
- 11:31Speaker 1: hold on to Brown. But doesn't that make it harder
- 11:34Speaker 1: for other teams who have already spent some money sure
- 11:37Speaker 1: to wait later on?
- 11:38Speaker 2: Right? Yeah?
- 11:39Speaker 3: And plus, well, Mike, the big thing is they've made
- 11:40Speaker 3: their plans. And then the other thing is, Mike, let's say, okay,
- 11:43Speaker 3: let's say that draft week the Eagles and Patriots kind
- 11:48Speaker 3: of like the Eagles and Titans did four years ago.
- 11:49Speaker 3: It's really funny how things happen. Let's say that the
- 11:53Speaker 3: Eagles re engaged with the Patriots. The Patriots are aggressive,
- 11:56Speaker 3: they think Eagles could think they're going to get the
- 11:57Speaker 3: deal done. Well, by then, Mike, friends, he's completely picked
- 12:01Speaker 3: over for a receiver. So unless they get that guy
- 12:04Speaker 3: in the draft, it's a little bit harder. So yeah, Mike,
- 12:07Speaker 3: on your point, you wanna, you're gonna want and have
- 12:10Speaker 3: a good idea of.
- 12:10Speaker 1: What you we're talking about account of football at four,
- 12:13Speaker 1: here best fits for the Eagles with what's left, who
- 12:17Speaker 1: are some fits in your mind that would work here.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I guess that most of them are on the defensive
- 12:24Speaker 1: side the ball, because you've lost on defense. But do
- 12:26Speaker 1: you have some people, some names in your mind that
- 12:28Speaker 1: would be good fits.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Well. I mentioned all the edges, I mentioned the safety as,
- 12:31Speaker 3: I mentioned the uh, pretty much everything else. But the
- 12:34Speaker 3: one position we did not talk about Mike, and it's
- 12:37Speaker 3: been very light is cornerback. We haven't talked. They don't
- 12:41Speaker 3: have a starter opposite Quinia Metro right, yea, yep, Mike Uh.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Now that here's the there's a reason why, Mike that
- 12:47Speaker 3: they haven't done anything. Okay, Nate Hobbs is going to
- 12:50Speaker 3: be cut. Who's the starting corner at that? They're cutting
- 12:53Speaker 3: him after one season. He's a roster bonus due on
- 12:55Speaker 3: Saturday of over six million. He's got knee problems. He's
- 12:57Speaker 3: a nickel who could play outside. I know the Niners
- 13:01Speaker 3: have liked in the past of my reporting Egles, I
- 13:04Speaker 3: haven't been really been on him. He's haid knee problems.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I don't see that when you look at the treg
- 13:10Speaker 3: walls out there. The Eagles did not have interest him
- 13:12Speaker 3: at the Trede Dellen As they understand it. Josh Shob,
- 13:14Speaker 3: I can't see him coming back. I know he had
- 13:16Speaker 3: a great season.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I think you went back to Seattle Joe back.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Did he go Okay? Did he Reshon? I didn't see that.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I'm looking okay, I'm looking at it, Mike. There are
- 13:27Speaker 3: a lot of guys out there. They're just very mid
- 13:29Speaker 3: to low level. They're just it's really not that good.
- 13:31Speaker 3: There are a lot of they're like ten Nickels.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Well, I know, Adam, I think it was you. We
- 13:34Speaker 1: had this conversation last year. Is the Eagles do not
- 13:37Speaker 1: want to give like Isaiah Rogers, a second year. They'll
- 13:40Speaker 1: give you the one year, but not a second year deal.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So if you are a mid guy, you're not getting
- 13:44Speaker 1: a second year deal. And that's why you know, those
- 13:46Speaker 1: guys are kicking around looking for multiple year deals, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: then if they don't find it, maybe they come back
- 13:51Speaker 1: to you and say, I'll take the.
- 13:52Speaker 3: One year, right like a Dorrig Jackson who didn't have
- 13:54Speaker 3: any choice. He's now thirty years old, so yeah, I
- 13:57Speaker 3: would say that that and then they don't have to
- 13:59Speaker 3: do it now, do it closer to training, and can
- 14:01Speaker 3: do it anytime they want. But they really need to
- 14:03Speaker 3: add to a veteran offensive lineman and one of them
- 14:05Speaker 3: could be Yeah, and they need to guys. I was
- 14:10Speaker 3: told by a very strong the college scout who who
- 14:15Speaker 3: did Kendall Kennell's UH scouting report for his team that
- 14:21Speaker 3: he works for. Said Kennell, who was eagle six round pick.
- 14:24Speaker 3: He said, he's just not a guard at this level.
- 14:25Speaker 3: He's not strong enough. He's a center. It could be
- 14:27Speaker 3: a good backup center. So egles need to guard and
- 14:30Speaker 3: a swing tackle. Mike, that's there's no question about it.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Depth of receivers also an issue running back, they're good
- 14:37Speaker 3: tight end, Okay, Mike.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I was going to say, I want to ask you
- 14:40Speaker 2: about all right, I'll.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Get out of it. Yeah, I'll get I was told
- 14:44Speaker 3: before free She started that they would leave the communication
- 14:46Speaker 3: open with Goddard and his agency. Typically what they do
- 14:48Speaker 3: with these situations when they let the guy get the
- 14:50Speaker 3: market is they want to they want to know what's
- 14:52Speaker 3: out there for him and give them a chance to match.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And you know, I didn't think he'd go day one.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I do think he'll go off the board this week,
- 14:59Speaker 3: though I'd be done if he's not with likely going
- 15:02Speaker 3: off the board. Kid out and going back to Tampa Bay.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Tyler Hi could be going back to the Rams. There's
- 15:06Speaker 3: not a lot out there. No offense sign a free
- 15:08Speaker 3: agent deal, so not a lot out there. There's David
- 15:12Speaker 3: and Joke. Who's going to cost you would think would
- 15:14Speaker 3: cost twelve to thirteen million a season. Now, if he
- 15:16Speaker 3: gets under ten, I can't imagine he goes. Wouldn't be interested.
- 15:20Speaker 3: He's better than god Her and he's also younger. He's
- 15:22Speaker 3: just a really good football player, really good, really good player.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I've always been a fan of his. And then Chick
- 15:28Speaker 3: a concost a pass catching guy doesn't blocked very well.
- 15:30Speaker 3: There's not really much out there, to be honest with you,
- 15:32Speaker 3: after this, guys.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Okay, there you go.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yes, because last year we know Gottard, it looked like
- 15:37Speaker 1: he was as good as gone. They end up re
- 15:39Speaker 1: coming back together, reigniting. I guess if you will one
- 15:42Speaker 1: year ten million, and now he's a free agent. We'll
- 15:45Speaker 1: see if he gets past the weekend, maybe he comes
- 15:48Speaker 1: crawling back out to the Eagles, because not a lot
- 15:50Speaker 1: on the tight end market either, with likely going to
- 15:54Speaker 1: the Giants. Obviously, you do have the draft that you
- 15:56Speaker 1: could do something there as well, But they do not
- 15:58Speaker 1: have a tight end, really starting level tight end on
- 16:01Speaker 1: the current roster. Check out the Inside the Birds podcast
- 16:05Speaker 1: Inside the Birds dot Com for everything happening this week.
- 16:09Speaker 1: So far, it's been quiet, but business is probably about
- 16:12Speaker 1: to pick up. We'll see an Adam, Jeff and Andrew
- 16:15Speaker 1: will have plenty on Inside the Birds dot Com.
