- 0:44Speaker 2: Now Here is doctor Troy.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Hello and welcome. I'm doctor Troy. I absolutely love doing
- 0:56Speaker 3: deep dives when I get to find out about somebody's life.
- 0:59Speaker 3: And this video had come across my feed and it
- 1:02Speaker 3: was on Eddie van Halen and he was in a
- 1:05Speaker 3: bar and he didn't want to play. He was just
- 1:09Speaker 3: just wanted some time. And it's towards the end of
- 1:11Speaker 3: his life and he was sitting there and Carlos Santana
- 1:14Speaker 3: walks in, and some of you may have heard the story,
- 1:17Speaker 3: especially if you were peaked by the title of this
- 1:20Speaker 3: particular podcast, and long story short, they end up on
- 1:25Speaker 3: stage and Eddie van Halen does his famous eruption and
- 1:30Speaker 3: a gentleman before him had played it, but not quite
- 1:34Speaker 3: like Eddie did, and so he'd commented from the small
- 1:38Speaker 3: group that was there since it was intimate and he
- 1:41Speaker 3: could basically speak up from the back of the bar,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and the guy's like, hey, you didn't. You weren't the
- 1:48Speaker 3: one that invented this song, so why didn't you just
- 1:50Speaker 3: pipe down, sir? And so anyways, when Carlos comes in
- 1:53Speaker 3: because he heard the solo and then sees Eddie because
- 1:56Speaker 3: he recognized him, and he goes, ah, there's a guitar there, man,
- 2:00Speaker 3: you should go play. And he's like, nah, he's he's
- 2:03Speaker 3: sick at this time because he's kind of towards end
- 2:06Speaker 3: of life. And anyway, so he goes up there in
- 2:09Speaker 3: places that everybody's just shocked, and then of course they
- 2:12Speaker 3: see Carlos Santana and they're just like unbelievable, and then
- 2:16Speaker 3: they jam for about five more minutes, and you can
- 2:19Speaker 3: see some of the videos they're on YouTube and stuff,
- 2:21Speaker 3: and it was a really heartfelt night and it was
- 2:23Speaker 3: an awesome place to be if you were in LA
- 2:25Speaker 3: at the time. But anyways, all that is, I'm like, Okay, well,
- 2:29Speaker 3: I kind of want to read about Eddie. I you know,
- 2:30Speaker 3: I grew up with the guy listening to his stuff.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I just want to know kind of a little bit
- 2:35Speaker 3: more about his life. And they get to the part
- 2:37Speaker 3: about his death. And this is what's fascinating. I get
- 2:41Speaker 3: comments and questions about people saying, hey, I hear copper
- 2:44Speaker 3: bands are good for you. Should I be wearing like
- 2:47Speaker 3: a copper you know, bracelets or anklet or whatever. And
- 2:52Speaker 3: I'm thinking, nah, you really shouldn't be putting metal on
- 2:55Speaker 3: your body that can be absorbed like copper in through
- 2:58Speaker 3: the skin. It's just it's not healthy. Metals are supposed
- 3:02Speaker 3: to be basically fixed. They call it chemically fixed, where
- 3:08Speaker 3: they change their electron structure in the outer portion of
- 3:11Speaker 3: the atom of that particular metal. To not try to
- 3:16Speaker 3: be too awfully detailed in chemistry, but when they fix
- 3:21Speaker 3: that mineral that's in the soil, it now becomes alive
- 3:25Speaker 3: and it's no longer inert, and now it can actually
- 3:27Speaker 3: do things in the body, and copper is incredibly important
- 3:31Speaker 3: because it is the core of the vitamin C complex,
- 3:34Speaker 3: and copper is used by a number of cells to
- 3:38Speaker 3: really do some amazing functions in the human body. To
- 3:41Speaker 3: name a couple, the hormones in your body that make
- 3:46Speaker 3: you feel like a man or woman. Those sex hormones
- 3:50Speaker 3: they need copper in order to be produced. Are immune cells.
- 3:55Speaker 3: They use lots of copper to help speed up their
- 3:58Speaker 3: action of eating up debris and toxicity in the body
- 4:01Speaker 3: after a cold or flu or if there's just toxins
- 4:03Speaker 3: in the body. So vitamin C is used to do
- 4:07Speaker 3: some really amazing things when it is in its complete
- 4:10Speaker 3: form and contains copper. The vitamin C that you would
- 4:13Speaker 3: buy in a grocery store that says a scorpic acid
- 4:16Speaker 3: is not the vitamin C we are talking about. That
- 4:18Speaker 3: is a preservative portion of the vitamin C complex and
- 4:22Speaker 3: not the full complex. We prefer to get it from
- 4:24Speaker 3: food because vitamin C is a very complex structure of
- 4:27Speaker 3: over five hundred phytonutrients that make it what it is. Anyways,
- 4:31Speaker 3: all that to say is I'm going to read you
- 4:33Speaker 3: what Eddie said about what he battled in two thousand
- 4:38Speaker 3: in two thousand and two. So it says here that
- 4:42Speaker 3: Van Halen began receiving treatment for tongue cancer in two thousand.
- 4:48Speaker 3: The subsequent surgery removed roughly a third of his tongue.
- 4:52Speaker 3: He was declared cancer free in two thousand and two.
- 4:56Speaker 3: He blamed the tongue cancer on his habit of holding
- 5:01Speaker 3: guitar picks in his mouth, stating in twenty fifteen this
- 5:06Speaker 3: is a quote from him directly, I used metal picks,
- 5:10Speaker 3: their brass and copper, which I always held in my
- 5:13Speaker 3: mouth in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I mean, I was smoking and doing a lot of
- 5:23Speaker 3: drugs and a lot of everything. But at the same time,
- 5:28Speaker 3: my lungs are totally clear. This is just my own theory,
- 5:32Speaker 3: but my doctor say it's possible. End quote. So isn't
- 5:37Speaker 3: it fascinating where he held his guitar pick that was
- 5:42Speaker 3: copper is where he got his tongue cancer, And isn't
- 5:47Speaker 3: it fascinating that later on in twenty nineteen, he was
- 5:52Speaker 3: battling throat cancer and he'd been battling it since twenty fourteen,
- 5:59Speaker 3: And so you're holding metal against the tongue, namely copper
- 6:05Speaker 3: and you're probably having a little bit of saliva going
- 6:08Speaker 3: down the throat and toxifying those tissues. So we'd say, well,
- 6:13Speaker 3: copper in its vitamin C form is really good for you,
- 6:16Speaker 3: must be great just sucking on metal or having a
- 6:18Speaker 3: metal bracelet on your wrist. Not so, and so something
- 6:22Speaker 3: to think about. Copper toxicity is commonplace, and I've done
- 6:26Speaker 3: other podcasts, but recently I thought, hey, just for fun,
- 6:30Speaker 3: one of my team members said, I'm gonna get a
- 6:31Speaker 3: water test. I said, great, get me one two. And
- 6:34Speaker 3: so I go home and I test my water and
- 6:36Speaker 3: it tests okay out of the tap cold. I thought, ah,
- 6:41Speaker 3: this will be fun. Let's tap Let's do it on hot.
- 6:44Speaker 3: So wait for the hot water to get as hot
- 6:45Speaker 3: as it gets, and then I filled the cup and
- 6:47Speaker 3: then I tested it and it was double the amount
- 6:51Speaker 3: of particulate. So from cold water to hot water through
- 6:55Speaker 3: copper pipes, it doubled the parts per million into the
- 7:00Speaker 3: not safe range. So here hot water is leeching copper
- 7:04Speaker 3: off the copper pipes. Now is that a lot? No?
- 7:08Speaker 3: But it is enough. And so I went up to
- 7:11Speaker 3: my shower filter and it filtered most of the particulate
- 7:15Speaker 3: out in the cold, but when I turned on the hot,
- 7:18Speaker 3: it's still doubled. What was left it wasn't as much
- 7:21Speaker 3: as if it was unfiltered. It was about forty or
- 7:24Speaker 3: fifty particulate cleaner, but still just over the edge of
- 7:29Speaker 3: technically unsafe. And so I recommend shower filters, and I
- 7:34Speaker 3: recommend filtering your water. Especially don't go for the hot
- 7:38Speaker 3: water out of your tap and drink it if you
- 7:41Speaker 3: can help it. Now, if you have enough good copper
- 7:46Speaker 3: in your body and enough vitamin E naturally occurring like
- 7:51Speaker 3: from nuts and seeds and other you know, wheat, youer
- 7:54Speaker 3: oil and things of that nature, there's vitamin E in
- 7:57Speaker 3: a lot of foods. But if you have enough vitamin
- 7:59Speaker 3: E and vitamin C their natural keylators or rather collathorators
- 8:04Speaker 3: of heavy metals like the copper that would come off
- 8:07Speaker 3: of our pipes. So, but is it a burden that
- 8:10Speaker 3: we really must have to deal with anywhere that you
- 8:15Speaker 3: can clean up your own environment by doing some filtering
- 8:18Speaker 3: here and there. Great, Yes, I will continue to take
- 8:22Speaker 3: supplements that are whole food vitamin C and vitamin E
- 8:25Speaker 3: and the like, but I'm also going to reduce my
- 8:29Speaker 3: burden naturally in what comes into my body if I
- 8:32Speaker 3: can help it. And so it's what any of us
- 8:35Speaker 3: should kind of strive to do, not with worry, not
- 8:38Speaker 3: with anxiety, not with fear, but just with some wisdom,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you know what. I know the body isn't going to
- 8:44Speaker 3: last forever. In one of these days, I'm going to
- 8:45Speaker 3: let it go. But until that day, I would like
- 8:49Speaker 3: to perform at a very high function while I have it.
- 8:53Speaker 3: And so there you go. So I hope that was
- 8:55Speaker 3: kind of an interesting insight into van Halen and copper toxicity.
- 9:00Speaker 3: But I thought it was wild as I read it.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I'm like, oh my gosh, I gotta do podcasts on this.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So hope you had a fun journey with me this time.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Until next time, I'm doctor Troy, and remember there is
- 9:09Speaker 3: way more right with you than there is wrong with you.
