  A team walks onto the field as the clear underdog.

  Nobody gives them a chance. The other side has the talent,

  the experience, the crowd, but somehow, against all odds, the
• 0:26
  underdog wins. There's something deeply
• 0:28
  satisfying about that kind of story, isn't there?
• 0:32
  That satisfaction traces back to something deep within us, a
• 0:36
  sense that justice matters, that the strong don't always win, and
• 0:41
  that sometimes a power greater than what we can see steps into
• 0:44
  the situation and changes everything.
• 0:47
  That's basically First Samuel chapter 5 in a nutshell.
• 0:51
  The Philistines had captured the Ark of God, a sacred symbol of
• 0:55
  God's presence, and brought it into the temple of their idol,
• 0:59
  Dagon, as if it were a trophy. But the next morning they found
• 1:03
  Dagon face down on the ground before the ark.
• 1:06
  They set him back up. The next morning he was face
• 1:10
  down again, this time with his head and hands broken off.
• 1:14
  God didn't need an army. He didn't need a speech.
• 1:18
  He just showed up and the idol fell.
• 1:21
  The message is clear, and it's as relevant today as it was
• 1:24
  then. Whatever you put in God's place
• 1:27
  will eventually fall. No idol holds its ground before
• 1:30
  the living God. Not popularity, not success, not
• 1:34
  relationships, not social media validation, not money.
• 1:38
  Whatever we bow to that isn't God will eventually let us down.

  Proverbs chapter 17, verses 8 and 9 add another layer to this.

  People chase quick fixes, things like bribes, shortcuts, and
• 1:51
  manipulation to get what they want.
• 1:54
  But real success, real relationship, real blessing
• 1:58
  comes when we cover offenses with love instead of spreading
• 2:01
  them as gossip, When we choose to protect people rather than
• 2:05
  tear them down. Here's how this connects We live
• 2:08
  in a culture obsessed with shortcuts.
• 2:11
  We want the quick path to popularity, to success, to
• 2:14
  connection. And sometimes those shortcuts
• 2:17
  look harmless. A little exaggeration here, a
• 2:20
  little gossip there, leaning on influence instead of integrity.
• 2:24
  But Proverbs is saying those things don't last.
• 2:27
  They're like Dagon. They look impressive until God
• 2:30
  shows up, and then they fall flat.
• 2:33
  God's weight is slower. Sometimes it requires patience,
• 2:37
  faithfulness, love. But what's built God's way
• 2:40
  stands. Let's pray.

  Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that You are
• 2:46
  greater than anything we face or anything we're tempted to put in
• 2:50
  Your place. Help us to recognize the idols
• 2:53
  in our own lives, the things we trust more than You, and let
• 2:57
  them fall. Teach us to choose love over
• 3:00
  drama, integrity over shortcuts, and faith over fear.

  When you show up, everything changes and we trust that you
• 3:08
  always show up in Jesus name, Amen.

  this day. But Yahweh's hand was heavy on

  the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them

  with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.

  When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of

  the God of Israel shall not stay with us, for His hand is severe

  on us and on Dagon, our God. They sent therefore and gathered

  together all the Lords of the Philistines, and said, What

  shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?

  They answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried

  over to Gath. They carried the ark of the God

  of Israel there. It was so that after they had

  carried it there, Yahweh's hand was against the city with a very

  great confusion, and he struck the men of the city, both small

  and great, so that tumors broke out on them.

  So they sent God's ark to Ekron. As God's ark came to Ekron, the

  Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought the ark of the

  God of Israel here to us, to kill us and our people.

  They sent therefore and gathered together all the Lords of the

  Philistines, and they said, Send the ark of the God of Israel

  away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us

  and our people. For there was a deadly panic

  throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy
• 6:40
  there. The men who didn't die were
• 6:42
  struck with the tumors, and the cry of the city went up to.
