- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 5th, when God
- 0:11shows up. Picture this.
- 0:15A team walks onto the field as the clear underdog.
- 0:18Nobody gives them a chance. The other side has the talent,
- 0:22the experience, the crowd, but somehow, against all odds, the
- 0:26underdog wins. There's something deeply
- 0:28satisfying about that kind of story, isn't there?
- 0:32That satisfaction traces back to something deep within us, a
- 0:36sense that justice matters, that the strong don't always win, and
- 0:41that sometimes a power greater than what we can see steps into
- 0:44the situation and changes everything.
- 0:47That's basically First Samuel chapter 5 in a nutshell.
- 0:51The Philistines had captured the Ark of God, a sacred symbol of
- 0:55God's presence, and brought it into the temple of their idol,
- 0:59Dagon, as if it were a trophy. But the next morning they found
- 1:03Dagon face down on the ground before the ark.
- 1:06They set him back up. The next morning he was face
- 1:10down again, this time with his head and hands broken off.
- 1:14God didn't need an army. He didn't need a speech.
- 1:18He just showed up and the idol fell.
- 1:21The message is clear, and it's as relevant today as it was
- 1:24then. Whatever you put in God's place
- 1:27will eventually fall. No idol holds its ground before
- 1:30the living God. Not popularity, not success, not
- 1:34relationships, not social media validation, not money.
- 1:38Whatever we bow to that isn't God will eventually let us down.
- 1:43Proverbs chapter 17, verses 8 and 9 add another layer to this.
- 1:48People chase quick fixes, things like bribes, shortcuts, and
- 1:51manipulation to get what they want.
- 1:54But real success, real relationship, real blessing
- 1:58comes when we cover offenses with love instead of spreading
- 2:01them as gossip, When we choose to protect people rather than
- 2:05tear them down. Here's how this connects We live
- 2:08in a culture obsessed with shortcuts.
- 2:11We want the quick path to popularity, to success, to
- 2:14connection. And sometimes those shortcuts
- 2:17look harmless. A little exaggeration here, a
- 2:20little gossip there, leaning on influence instead of integrity.
- 2:24But Proverbs is saying those things don't last.
- 2:27They're like Dagon. They look impressive until God
- 2:30shows up, and then they fall flat.
- 2:33God's weight is slower. Sometimes it requires patience,
- 2:37faithfulness, love. But what's built God's way
- 2:40stands. Let's pray.
- 2:43Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that You are
- 2:46greater than anything we face or anything we're tempted to put in
- 2:50Your place. Help us to recognize the idols
- 2:53in our own lives, the things we trust more than You, and let
- 2:57them fall. Teach us to choose love over
- 3:00drama, integrity over shortcuts, and faith over fear.
- 3:04When you show up, everything changes and we trust that you
- 3:08always show up in Jesus name, Amen.
- 3:13When the battle feels personal, relentless, and too heavy to
- 3:16name, your prayers do not have to fall silent.
- 3:20Under Siege is a prayer script series for believers walking
- 3:23through fear, betrayal, spiritual pressure and unseen

- 3:30focus. These books give voice to the
- 3:32cry for help, the fight for a steady mind, the weariness that
- 3:36longs to run, the chaos of hostile environments, the pain
- 3:41of broken trust, and the confidence to leave judgement in
- 3:44God's hands. This series helps you pray with
- 3:46discernment, endurance, and covenant trust.
- 3:49When the pressure is real and the path feels narrow, stand
- 3:53firm. Pray clearly.

- 4:12Proverbs, chapter 17, verses 8 to 9 World English Bible.
- 4:17A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it.
- 4:20Wherever he turns, he prospers. He who covers an offence
- 4:25promotes love, but he who repeats a matter separates.
- 4:28Best Friends First Samuel Chapter 5 World English Bible
- 4:33Now the Philistines had taken God's ark, and they brought it
- 4:37from Ebenezer to Ashdod. The Philistines took God's ark
- 4:41and brought it into the House of Dagon, and said it by Dagon.
- 4:45When the people of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold,
- 4:49Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh's ark.
- 4:53They took Dagon and set him in his place again.
- 4:56When they arose early on the following morning, behold, Dagon
- 5:00had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh's ark, and
- 5:04the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off
- 5:08on the threshold. Only Dagon's torso was intact.
- 5:12Therefore, neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into
- 5:16Dagon's house step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to
- 5:19this day. But Yahweh's hand was heavy on
- 5:23the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them
- 5:26with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.
- 5:30When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of
- 5:34the God of Israel shall not stay with us, for His hand is severe
- 5:38on us and on Dagon, our God. They sent therefore and gathered
- 5:42together all the Lords of the Philistines, and said, What
- 5:46shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?
- 5:48They answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried
- 5:52over to Gath. They carried the ark of the God
- 5:54of Israel there. It was so that after they had
- 5:58carried it there, Yahweh's hand was against the city with a very
- 6:01great confusion, and he struck the men of the city, both small
- 6:05and great, so that tumors broke out on them.
- 6:09So they sent God's ark to Ekron. As God's ark came to Ekron, the
- 6:14Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought the ark of the
- 6:18God of Israel here to us, to kill us and our people.
- 6:22They sent therefore and gathered together all the Lords of the
- 6:25Philistines, and they said, Send the ark of the God of Israel
- 6:29away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us
- 6:34and our people. For there was a deadly panic
- 6:36throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy
- 6:40there. The men who didn't die were
- 6:42struck with the tumors, and the cry of the city went up to.
