- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into jags A. I'm here on victory Monday. The
- 0:19Speaker 1: shows are always better on victory Monday. I've decided I'll
- 0:21Speaker 1: speak for everybody.
- 0:23Speaker 2: John.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It's a good feeling. It's a good feeling early in
- 0:26Speaker 1: the year. I know you were just talking about it.
- 0:27Speaker 1: It's a little bit peculiar at this time you are
- 0:30Speaker 1: to be so positive.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Maybe, well it's it's Uh. Brian and I were talking
- 0:34Speaker 2: about it, and I I'll confess I didn't do the research,
- 0:36Speaker 2: and I have to speak bad intelligently. But they're four
- 0:40Speaker 2: and two at three game winning Street, and that means
- 0:43Speaker 2: you're in first place. Uh, it's been decades to get
- 0:50Speaker 2: into first place. But since you had a game like
- 0:52Speaker 2: that and you said, Okay, we're gonna take early control
- 0:55Speaker 2: and feel like we're the team defeat. Uh, Brian, that's
- 0:58Speaker 2: been since the ninety.
- 0:59Speaker 3: First of all, did you just me a compliment and
- 1:00Speaker 3: say you you know you're not that intelligent to have
- 1:02Speaker 3: done the research. It wasn't a matter of and it's rare.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You didn't mean to.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I get it. It wasn't a matter you did. It
- 1:10Speaker 3: wasn't a matter of intellect. It was a matter of attention.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I was paying attention. Yesterday, CBS through a stat up
- 1:15Speaker 3: on the broadcast that it had been eighty something weeks,
- 1:17Speaker 3: eighty two, eighty three weeks. I forget which one, but
- 1:19Speaker 3: a long time since the Jaguars had been multiple games
- 1:22Speaker 3: over five hundred. You got to go back to when
- 1:24Speaker 3: they were three and one in twenty eighteen, and it
- 1:26Speaker 3: just tells you how long this team has been sort
- 1:31Speaker 3: of bumping and grinding it out. Three straight wins, you know,
- 1:35Speaker 3: and two of those, obviously, you know, came in London.
- 1:38Speaker 3: This was a difficult week. You know, I don't care
- 1:40Speaker 3: what anyone says. You had to work to get your
- 1:43Speaker 3: body back, and we all felt it, and we didn't
- 1:45Speaker 3: play right. Even play in London. You get on the planet,
- 1:49Speaker 3: get back, and your energy level isn't the same at
- 1:50Speaker 3: the end of the day. So, I mean, I thought
- 1:53Speaker 3: that was a really important win yesterday. I will say this,
- 1:55Speaker 3: There's a part of me that didn't feel all that
- 1:57Speaker 3: good last night, you know, leaving here, you know, with
- 1:59Speaker 3: the uncertainty about the quarterback and the injury, didn't feel
- 2:03Speaker 3: like a normal victory, you know, evening because you're you know,
- 2:06Speaker 3: there's a little cloud here. Okay, Okay, or is he not.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We're gonna get more information on that this week. We'll
- 2:11Speaker 1: hear from Doug later on today and then Trevor will
- 2:13Speaker 1: speak tomorrow, so we'll get some clarity on how serious
- 2:16Speaker 1: ode injury is. And it's a short week, so when
- 2:18Speaker 1: you're dealing with injuries, that's always tough. We're going to
- 2:20Speaker 1: talk about that first. We'll start off with our big thing,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and big thing number one is a statement win, because
- 2:24Speaker 1: that's exactly what that was. They came back under tough
- 2:26Speaker 1: circumstances playing in London for those two weeks, kind of
- 2:29Speaker 1: resetting themselves in a big divisional matchup against the Colts.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Now they're in first place after that win. And we
- 2:34Speaker 1: heard a little bit about this wind streak.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think that this is where we
- 2:39Speaker 4: want to be. You know, we're getting better every week.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I think that's the that's the most exciting thing is
- 2:42Speaker 4: we're getting better every week. We're getting closer. I feel
- 2:44Speaker 4: like the momentum and the energy is really rolling for us,
- 2:48Speaker 4: and we got to keep that going every week.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Now, especially it's a short week on the road, so
- 2:53Speaker 4: it's the same same mindset. We got to make sure
- 2:55Speaker 4: we dial in on all the details, get our bodies
- 2:57Speaker 4: back for this for this game coming up on Thursday.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I mean it's three four days away, so we got
- 3:01Speaker 4: to get ready for that one.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So it's great that we're on a win streak, as
- 3:05Speaker 1: he mentioned, but you know, quick turnarounds, So by the
- 3:07Speaker 1: time we get to Thursday, it's like you can't even
- 3:09Speaker 1: enjoy it that much because we're already thinking about the Saints.
- 3:11Speaker 3: You know, give them a lot of credit. It was
- 3:13Speaker 3: not statistically a day that you go, well, well they dominated.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Look at thirty seven points or four hundred yards. They're
- 3:18Speaker 3: coming on four hundred and seventy four yards against a
- 3:20Speaker 3: very good Buffalo team when they put up yesterday two
- 3:23Speaker 3: thirty eight something, just under two hundred and fifty yards.
- 3:26Speaker 3: But they were opportunistic. They took advantage of that, and John,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I have a lot of hope for this football team
- 3:32Speaker 3: based on the fact that one side of the ball
- 3:35Speaker 3: is playing consistent. I think the defensive side and the
- 3:37Speaker 3: offensive side still has a wayte to go to find
- 3:40Speaker 3: that consistency.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Well, it I get that the opposite didn't put up
- 3:44Speaker 2: with ten yards, but as a team, you scored thirty
- 3:47Speaker 2: seven points and the offense did what it hadn't done
- 3:50Speaker 2: in some games, which was to put the ball on
- 3:53Speaker 2: the end zone they have when they had the opportunity.
- 3:56Speaker 2: So I'm not I guess I didn't come out of
- 3:59Speaker 2: that game. O. The even's been horrible, but I get
- 4:02Speaker 2: your point.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Well, they just were very good on third down, right,
- 4:04Speaker 3: they fell way back and were inefficient on third down again,
- 4:07Speaker 3: and that was what I thought. Well last week, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 3: ten of eighteen, they had made a major breakthrough. They
- 4:11Speaker 3: had found that when they were consistent on third down,
- 4:14Speaker 3: they're really good on all.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I thought that they found an identity of sorts in
- 4:21Speaker 2: London that I never thought they had last year, which
- 4:23Speaker 2: was a toughness on defense and a grit and determination,
- 4:28Speaker 2: if you will, on offense. And I thought they took
- 4:32Speaker 2: control of the game early by playing that way. So
- 4:36Speaker 2: I still think they're that team. But the NFL is hard,
- 4:40Speaker 2: and they won by seventeen points. They swept the Colts,
- 4:45Speaker 2: outscoring that team for the season by twenty seven, and
- 4:48Speaker 2: you're in first place. And yet there were people angry
- 4:51Speaker 2: last night in the inbox. It's a nice change of
- 4:54Speaker 2: pace made way.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I heard a stat on a podcast this morning. You
- 4:59Speaker 3: realized that through six weeks in the NFL, the red
- 5:02Speaker 3: zone touchdown percentage is as low as it's been in
- 5:05Speaker 3: the last twelve years. I mean, it's just there are
- 5:07Speaker 3: a lot of offenses that are struggling to find their way.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Defenses had the upper hand through six weeks.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I think what's happening there is offense has gotten so
- 5:16Speaker 2: good and I think and go out of defensees have
- 5:20Speaker 2: accepted we're not going to be shut down defenses anymore,
- 5:23Speaker 2: but we're going to be great in the red zone
- 5:25Speaker 2: and keep them out. That's the way the lead has
- 5:27Speaker 2: been going a little bit. You know, by the end
- 5:29Speaker 2: of the season that could not see where but uh,
- 5:34Speaker 2: by the way my mic was off, I guess for
- 5:35Speaker 2: the first segment takes.
- 5:37Speaker 1: We need more job if you want to, they just
- 5:40Speaker 1: rewind it. Okay, let's got our second big thing. I'm
- 5:43Speaker 1: sure John will weigh in on that. I'll take that
- 5:46Speaker 1: because turnovers have been the name of the game for
- 5:48Speaker 1: the Jaguars defense this season and we love to see
- 5:51Speaker 1: that from them. Of course, Doug super happy with the
- 5:53Speaker 1: defense so far through the first six weeks.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Defense sometimes doesn't get enough credit for that. You know,
- 5:59Speaker 5: the takeaways are something that we as a team talk about.
- 6:03Speaker 5: They talk about it as a as a defense, and
- 6:06Speaker 5: it just it just shortens the field for your offense.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Right and and pass rush again today there was pressure
- 6:14Speaker 5: on Gardener, you know, putting in places maybe he didn't
- 6:17Speaker 5: want it to go. And again, just a great team
- 6:21Speaker 5: effort on defense to uh uh play the way they
- 6:23Speaker 5: did today.
- 6:25Speaker 1: John, it feels like it's a different person every week,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but then some of the same faces. Obviously Darise Williams
- 6:30Speaker 1: with third straight pick and third straight game. Cisco again,
- 6:33Speaker 1: Josh with the stripsack. It's everybody's It's an effort on
- 6:37Speaker 1: every aspect of the defense.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I remember a couple of weeks ago when we were
- 6:40Speaker 2: sort of trying to figure out is this is this
- 6:42Speaker 2: defense really good or not? And I think it made
- 6:46Speaker 2: the point all eleven guys, there's no weak spot. Uh,
- 6:51Speaker 2: there's no spot where you say, boy, you know, teams
- 6:54Speaker 2: can pick on this. Their teams can pick on that.
- 6:57Speaker 2: They brought back all the lab Uh. They brought back
- 6:59Speaker 2: the same defensive coordinator. They talked a little bit, and
- 7:03Speaker 2: nobody paid attention to how much continuity was going to
- 7:06Speaker 2: help them. They're a complete defense. They're really good against
- 7:11Speaker 2: the run. They're really stout. I think Doug Brian, I
- 7:16Speaker 2: think he's a little bit frustrated or wants to keep
- 7:21Speaker 2: pushing and get the offense better. But I think when
- 7:24Speaker 2: he looked at this team's chances overall, I think he's
- 7:27Speaker 2: smiling inside saying, all of a sudden, we're pretty tough.
- 7:30Speaker 2: All of a sudden, we're a pretty good defense. I mean,
- 7:35Speaker 2: and press are gonna get the offense figured out. You know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: I think it's probably his feeling when he's driving into
- 7:39Speaker 2: the morning, saying, you know, we're all right here. We've
- 7:43Speaker 2: got to stay afloat, and then if we get the
- 7:45Speaker 2: offense figured out, we can go on a run and
- 7:47Speaker 2: get in with these with the big guy, so to speak.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Well, people didn't hear you compliment me earlier, but but
- 7:55Speaker 3: I'm going to compliment you here. You called it a
- 7:58Speaker 3: few weeks ago, you said, this Jaguars defense takes the
- 8:00Speaker 3: ball away. It's what they do. This morning. They lead
- 8:02Speaker 3: the NFL through six weeks with fifteen takeaways and at
- 8:06Speaker 3: plus seven right they're number one in the AFC, number
- 8:09Speaker 3: two in the NFL in overall takeaway giveaway margin, and
- 8:13Speaker 3: they were everywhere yesterday. You know there were three interceptions
- 8:16Speaker 3: that were recorded. Devin Lloyd had another one that he
- 8:18Speaker 3: couldn't quite pull in with the cast on his hand,
- 8:21Speaker 3: and Foyer Lucon made a dive and grab it one
- 8:23Speaker 3: couldn't quite pull it in. Both of those would have
- 8:25Speaker 3: been tough catches, but you could have taken away.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I mean, it could have.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Been so much better for the Jaguars, worse for Gardner
- 8:34Speaker 3: Minshew in the Colts. This Jaguars defense is playing at
- 8:37Speaker 3: a really high level. Now, I mentioned earlier, you know
- 8:40Speaker 3: a little worried about the quarterback and want to find
- 8:42Speaker 3: that out. A little worried about Tyson Campbell and the
- 8:43Speaker 3: hamstring injury because when Monterrek Brown was in the game
- 8:46Speaker 3: in the second half, Michael Pittman had a field day.
- 8:48Speaker 3: They just went after him. I would think he might
- 8:50Speaker 3: be better if he has to practice this week, getting
- 8:53Speaker 3: more reps, even though there's very limited reps. But that's
- 8:56Speaker 3: a worrisome spot too, is Tyson Campbell is a star
- 9:00Speaker 3: on your defense. There's good a players you've got. You
- 9:02Speaker 3: need him on the field for you.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That could be a point of concern. Obviously, hamstring injuries
- 9:07Speaker 1: for that position. When they're running around a lot that
- 9:09Speaker 1: can linger and it's not a ton of depth there.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Braswell's on ir now, So what they're gonna do exactly,
- 9:14Speaker 1: we'll have to see. And ouch is our final big
- 9:17Speaker 1: thing of the week. There were several injuries in the game,
- 9:19Speaker 1: none bigger than Trevor Lawrence. We don't know the severity
- 9:22Speaker 1: of that just yet, but he did talk postgame about
- 9:24Speaker 1: how he was feeling.
- 9:25Speaker 2: He had just felt.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Something, you know, just some discomfort in my knee when
- 9:30Speaker 4: I went down. I don't know if it was twisted
- 9:31Speaker 4: or landed on or what, so I kind of felt
- 9:34Speaker 4: it right away and then kind of put a little
- 9:36Speaker 4: pressure on I realize I can get up, so I
- 9:37Speaker 4: was just trying to get up and get off and
- 9:39Speaker 4: go off the field. So yeah, that's that's all it.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Was there, and we're not going to speculate to that,
- 9:45Speaker 1: but we did see Trevor walking around. He spoke to
- 9:47Speaker 1: his post game. You know, if it's really severe injuries,
- 9:49Speaker 1: sometimes they skip that. So if he's not able to
- 9:53Speaker 1: go this week, it's a short week, so this could
- 9:55Speaker 1: be a chance where you know, there's several injuries on
- 9:57Speaker 1: the steam Campbell as well, where can they get right
- 10:00Speaker 1: in two.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Three days, I'm gonna lay out because that's my hont
- 10:03Speaker 3: take sure.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well, Thursday night games not all of them, but they
- 10:08Speaker 2: are often a matter of a couple of teams trying
- 10:11Speaker 2: to patch things together, not only medically but game plan wise,
- 10:17Speaker 2: energy wise, and they're often sloppy seventeen to sixteen games
- 10:22Speaker 2: where you wonder how in the world this team will.
- 10:24Speaker 2: You know, Doug's pretty good on Thursday games. Yeah, I
- 10:29Speaker 2: think they'll figure out a way to keep it simple
- 10:32Speaker 2: and have a chance. But a lot of times they're
- 10:36Speaker 2: these kind of games for this reason, because if you
- 10:39Speaker 2: get guys kind of nicked up, that's what you have
- 10:41Speaker 2: to go to.
- 10:42Speaker 3: If you ever wonder what the NFL's about, it's about
- 10:43Speaker 3: the money, because Thursday night games by billion dollars to
- 10:48Speaker 3: the equation to the bottom line for players, and it's
- 10:51Speaker 3: why they don't complain too too much. But man, it
- 10:54Speaker 3: is really difficult again, especially coming off of London, coming
- 10:58Speaker 3: back playing a game going there, It is really difficult
- 11:01Speaker 3: for a team to be able to play on a
- 11:03Speaker 3: normal Thursday with just two or three days to get ready.
- 11:05Speaker 3: But the money says we do it, and.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So they do. They're going to do it.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I have no idea what to expect, though in Thursday
- 11:10Speaker 1: Ight Football we'll try to predict that for you. But
- 11:12Speaker 1: coming up, we're going to go over the highlights from
- 11:14Speaker 1: yesterday's win over the Colts. Stay with us, you can

- 11:35Speaker 2: To sign up.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Today, we are back. It's victory Monday. All things are well.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So we're going to look at some of the highlights
- 11:40Speaker 1: from the game yesterday because there were a lot of
- 11:42Speaker 1: them and things went really well for them, and at
- 11:44Speaker 1: least on defense they got everything together and the offense
- 11:47Speaker 1: looked good at points as well. We're going to start
- 11:49Speaker 1: out with that drive early on their first score, Brendon
- 11:52Speaker 1: Strange setting up the touchdown to Travis Etn Because we
- 11:56Speaker 1: love it when they can do it in multiple ways, right,
- 11:59Speaker 1: Strange is probably himself that he didn't get into the
- 12:01Speaker 1: end zone. You could see right there because he's like, oh,
- 12:03Speaker 1: that was my opportunity. He can get one later on,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but then Etn to run it in from there. And
- 12:07Speaker 1: Etn has just been the MVP so far this season.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Yeah, just such a consistent football player. There weren't a
- 12:12Speaker 3: lot of holes yesterday, especially after Brandon Sheriff went out,
- 12:15Speaker 3: but the way he hits the hole and the coach
- 12:18Speaker 3: said they were going to get him to go downhill
- 12:21Speaker 3: and I thought, he doesn't look like a downhill runner
- 12:23Speaker 3: to me. He does this year.
- 12:24Speaker 1: He certainly turned the page and just adapted to what
- 12:27Speaker 1: they need them to be.
- 12:28Speaker 3: John.
- 12:28Speaker 1: It's like he looks completely different at times depending on
- 12:30Speaker 1: what they need from him.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Well, he had some runs yesterday that really exemplified what
- 12:36Speaker 2: he's trying to do, being more patient, not always trying
- 12:38Speaker 2: to go for the big play. The first second of
- 12:41Speaker 2: the play on the fourth and one. Sweep for showing
- 12:44Speaker 2: that later, but he clearly waited for his blockers while
- 12:48Speaker 2: I was patient on fourth and one, which is hard
- 12:50Speaker 2: to do because every instinct is to go after it again.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I thought that first drive said so much about this team.
- 12:57Speaker 2: There being games early on where the Colts go down
- 13:00Speaker 2: and threaten. Maybe they give up a touchdown, but certainly
- 13:06Speaker 2: the offense in a lot of games this season early
- 13:10Speaker 2: you're down three and h in, the offense stalls punt
- 13:12Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden it's ten. Nothing to
- 13:14Speaker 2: come out and just really have a well enforcing drive
- 13:18Speaker 2: on that first drive. Trevor said it after the game,
- 13:21Speaker 2: he thought that really set the tone and said, hey,
- 13:23Speaker 2: you guys can do that. Well, we're that kind of
- 13:25Speaker 2: team too. Well, I thought that says something about the team.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Well, it was a statement drive because the Colts chewed
- 13:31Speaker 3: up eight and a half minutes and sixteen plays and
- 13:32Speaker 3: the jag Wars came back with seven and a half
- 13:34Speaker 3: minutes and thirteen plays and ended up with the touchdown
- 13:36Speaker 3: on top of it. It said okay, you got your
- 13:39Speaker 3: time on the field. Now watch what we do. And
- 13:41Speaker 3: they had to go forward and fourth down right because
- 13:43Speaker 3: they couldn't be convert on third, which is a bugaboo
- 13:45Speaker 3: for this offense still, but they got it done with
- 13:47Speaker 3: Travis's run, and at that moment it's like, Okay, they got.
- 13:50Speaker 2: This, and I got a lot of early in the
- 13:52Speaker 2: season when fourth and one or a fourth and go
- 13:55Speaker 2: for it didn't work. I got a lot of complaints.
- 13:57Speaker 2: It was amazing how many people white. Awesome done. Yeah,
- 14:03Speaker 2: that's how it is. Sometimes you kill the bear, Brian,
- 14:06Speaker 2: sometimes the bear kills you.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I'd like to say, good plays are ones that work
- 14:09Speaker 3: in bad playser ones that don't.
- 14:10Speaker 1: That's very, very true. And Doug always seems to go
- 14:12Speaker 1: for it, so he ends up dealing with some of
- 14:14Speaker 1: that criticism. But when it works out, he looks really
- 14:16Speaker 1: really smart. Let's go to Etn's second touchdown of the
- 14:18Speaker 1: day was very quickly after that first touchdown thanks to
- 14:22Speaker 1: his friend Josh Allen creating that strip sack on the
- 14:24Speaker 1: other side of the ball. And I mean, Josh Allen's
- 14:27Speaker 1: playing about as lights out as you can for I
- 14:29Speaker 1: know we talk about this every week, but it's like
- 14:30Speaker 1: every week he's doing something else.
- 14:32Speaker 3: And let me just tell you. Right before the snap, okay,
- 14:35Speaker 3: because it was the first snap of the drive, CBS
- 14:37Speaker 3: put up a stat that said that Bernard Ryman was
- 14:40Speaker 3: fourth in the league, the first year starter at left tackle,
- 14:43Speaker 3: fourth in the league and pressures allowed. They were pumping
- 14:46Speaker 3: him up and then here comes Josh Allen and just reludless.
- 14:50Speaker 2: There was some stat too, and I didn't see the
- 14:52Speaker 2: whole thing, but basically laying out that Josh Allen at
- 14:58Speaker 2: least the league in pressures and had a higher pressure
- 15:02Speaker 2: percentage yesterday going against Raymond than any player in the league.
- 15:10Speaker 2: He's a game wrecker right now. Yeah, he's playing really well.
- 15:14Speaker 2: To me, he's playing like he always has, except now
- 15:18Speaker 2: he's getting that extra second in the sack.
- 15:20Speaker 3: And I talked to him last night and I said,
- 15:22Speaker 3: it's all about finish. You said it in August, he said,
- 15:24Speaker 3: and I'll be saying it in December this year. I'm
- 15:27Speaker 3: finishing on every play.
- 15:28Speaker 1: He's going to earn that paycheck. I know that much
- 15:30Speaker 1: because he looks impressive every time he touched the football,
- 15:34Speaker 1: and he feels like he touches the football every time
- 15:35Speaker 1: he's out there on defense. And of course this leads
- 15:37Speaker 1: to Etn just finding his way around. I know, we
- 15:40Speaker 1: talked about him waiting for his block. Sometimes he finds
- 15:42Speaker 1: his own way there though.
- 15:42Speaker 3: You can just see as that play evolves, and we're
- 15:44Speaker 3: going to see it again. When you see that much
- 15:46Speaker 3: space around Travis Etn, You're like, well, he's going to score.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Look at that.
- 15:49Speaker 1: He'll find a way.
- 15:51Speaker 3: He's just so he's so good. He's better than I
- 15:54Speaker 3: thought he was going to pay.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Well, he's better. He's tough for He's also tougher to
- 16:01Speaker 2: bring down than you would think for his size because
- 16:05Speaker 2: he has a way of positioning his body so you
- 16:07Speaker 2: never really get like a good first hit on him.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I don't know if he breaks tackles as much as
- 16:12Speaker 2: he bounces off would be tackle, but it's the same result.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And uh yeah with you, Brian. I thought he would
- 16:20Speaker 2: be good. I thought he would be complimentary. I didn't
- 16:24Speaker 2: think he would be the guy Dewey.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Told me last week that Jonathan Taylor is a slippery runner.
- 16:28Speaker 3: You just never get a chance to get a good
- 16:31Speaker 3: hit on him because he can what they call flip
- 16:33Speaker 3: his hips and turn his body at the right moment.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Well that was that was what he did on that play.
- 16:38Speaker 3: So he's running like Jonathan Taylor does. That's saying something
- 16:41Speaker 3: because Taylor's no all pro do he.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Is Andrew winning good, Brian, and Andrew.
- 16:46Speaker 3: On a first nickname, Is there another player in the
- 16:50Speaker 3: locker room who you can you don't have to use
- 16:52Speaker 3: his first name and everybody knows who he is.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Well, it was always the Jag, so he's got that,
- 16:56Speaker 1: of course everybody knows to Let's look at Cisco's third
- 17:00Speaker 1: interception of the year. He seems to be having his
- 17:02Speaker 1: hand on the football as well every single time, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: he's very sure handed when it gets thrown his way,
- 17:08Speaker 1: and he creates those turnovers. And we discuss this a
- 17:10Speaker 1: little bit because there's so many takeaways for this team.
- 17:13Speaker 1: With a team that's struggling on offense, give them extra possessions.
- 17:15Speaker 1: That's got to help out a little bit.
- 17:16Speaker 3: We'll tell you what, especially with you got an offensive
- 17:18Speaker 3: line that's struggling right now with injuries Walker little Brandon Sheriff.
- 17:22Speaker 3: To have a defense that can give the ball back
- 17:25Speaker 3: in short fields, right and if you have to play
- 17:27Speaker 3: just guessing you, if you have to play with CJ.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Bethord on Thursday night and you give him short fields, no.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Problem, all right?
- 17:34Speaker 1: I like to hear that. Let's move on quickly. Trevor
- 17:36Speaker 1: to Kirk for their touchdown. That was a good little situation.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I think they talked a little bit about it, just
- 17:42Speaker 1: a preview of sounds of the game. They talked a
- 17:44Speaker 1: little bit about how they had been working on something
- 17:45Speaker 1: similar in practice, and they obviously their connection is just,
- 17:49Speaker 1: you know, as similar to Calvin Win, You're just like
- 17:51Speaker 1: kind of give him the eye and then he knows
- 17:52Speaker 1: what to do. Just to see that set up.
- 17:54Speaker 2: There, well, it's a big moment for Trevor. He saw
- 17:57Speaker 2: something on film this week it indicated that would be there.
- 18:01Speaker 2: He talked to Christian about it, they decided what they
- 18:04Speaker 2: were going to do, and then it worked. As he said,
- 18:08Speaker 2: it doesn't always work when you think you see it,
- 18:11Speaker 2: but to have it pay off a little easier to
- 18:15Speaker 2: spend those extra hours in the film room when you've
- 18:18Speaker 2: seen that success. It could be in the long run
- 18:23Speaker 2: an important play for him. Not that he doesn't do
- 18:25Speaker 2: it anyway, but seeing it being able to apply it,
- 18:29Speaker 2: that's pretty cool. Those are the moments that he'll remember
- 18:31Speaker 2: after the season.
- 18:32Speaker 3: I just we're getting used to Trevor making really good throws.
- 18:35Speaker 3: That was an excellent throw. I mean he hit his
- 18:36Speaker 3: backstep and just let it rip. Not every quarterback in
- 18:40Speaker 3: the league and make that throw like he does, and.
- 18:41Speaker 1: The trust there obviously to make that catch as well
- 18:43Speaker 1: was good to see. Let's do racheon Jenkins interception to
- 18:46Speaker 1: get that first interception taken away because of a penalty,
- 18:49Speaker 1: but got his hands back on the football and got
- 18:51Speaker 1: another one, got his chance to celebrate. I don't know
- 18:53Speaker 1: if we have a name for it, is the Jacks jump,
- 18:55Speaker 1: the bank leap, whatever we're going to call it after
- 18:57Speaker 1: when he jumps into the stands. But I mean, Rachel's
- 19:00Speaker 1: kind of someone we don't talk about. But he's been
- 19:02Speaker 1: playing amazing too.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Listen, after twenty twenty one, you're thinking, how long do
- 19:05Speaker 3: I have to pay this guy nine million to play safety?
- 19:07Speaker 3: Then last year he comes up with two of the
- 19:10Speaker 3: most iconic defensive plays in franchise history, You're thinking, how
- 19:15Speaker 3: long do I get to pay him nine million dollars
- 19:17Speaker 3: to play safety? Because he just comes up with big
- 19:20Speaker 3: plays for this football team. His energy level. John to me,
- 19:24Speaker 3: that's what he does for this football team, is he
- 19:27Speaker 3: has them play to match his intensity.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really defense in the NFL is like this
- 19:34Speaker 2: across the board. He really exemplifies it. As safety in
- 19:38Speaker 2: the secondary, you are going to give up some plays.
- 19:43Speaker 2: He I think sets the tone for the defense in
- 19:47Speaker 2: the sense that if there's a bad play the next play,
- 19:51Speaker 2: he's going as hard doing his assignment. And that sounds easy,
- 19:55Speaker 2: but it doesn't always work that way. You know, you
- 19:57Speaker 2: give up a play and all of a sudden, your
- 19:59Speaker 2: energy level goes down. You get down yourself. This defense,
- 20:02Speaker 2: last year, when it wasn't a very very good defense,
- 20:05Speaker 2: made big plays at key times. Ray Sean sort of
- 20:09Speaker 2: exemplified those big plays. He's a good player. Cisco is
- 20:13Speaker 2: a good player. Darius Williams is getting better. If you're
- 20:16Speaker 2: going to be a good team and be there at
- 20:17Speaker 2: the end, you got to have guys who maybe you
- 20:19Speaker 2: didn't talk about before the season. There's a bunch of
- 20:21Speaker 2: guys in this team like that.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I won't confess to Ari will confess to not knowing
- 20:25Speaker 3: every safety tandem in the league. But if there's a
- 20:26Speaker 3: better tandem than Cisco and Jenkins, I'd love to see
- 20:30Speaker 3: it because the way they're playing. Last year they led
- 20:32Speaker 3: all safety tandems. It passes defense. This year, they're intercepting
- 20:37Speaker 3: the ball, they're coming up strong against the run. Maybe
- 20:40Speaker 3: there's a better safety tandem. I don't know right now.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I nominate them absolutely. We love what we've been seeing
- 20:44Speaker 3: from them.
- 20:45Speaker 1: And sometimes that old adage of on defense, if they're
- 20:47Speaker 1: not saying your name, it's a good thing because you're
- 20:48Speaker 1: shutting down everybody that's coming or all the balls that
- 20:50Speaker 1: are coming your way. Our final highlight's going to be
- 20:52Speaker 1: brent Strange getting his first career touchdown in the NFL.
- 20:56Speaker 1: He almost had his touchdown in that first drive, came
- 21:00Speaker 1: up just a little bit short and ETN got the score.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But it's cool to see Travor spreading the ball around.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I mean, he always tries to find whoever's open, but
- 21:07Speaker 1: it's it's nice to get the tight ends.
- 21:08Speaker 3: If you remember Atn's first touchdown in London last week,
- 21:13Speaker 3: there was a beautiful seal block by Strange on Jordan Phillips,
- 21:16Speaker 3: who's three hundred and forty pounds, and you could just
- 21:18Speaker 3: see the pride that the kid had as he came
- 21:20Speaker 3: off the field because that block really set Eten up
- 21:23Speaker 3: to get around the corner. So the question was asked
- 21:25Speaker 3: last week in a news conference, you know, how how
- 21:28Speaker 3: long until Brenton Strange gets more involved? And then this
- 21:31Speaker 3: week they get him involved. He's a talented young player
- 21:36Speaker 3: who has a lot of upside, John and by the
- 21:39Speaker 3: end of this season, I think you'll see a guy
- 21:41Speaker 3: that you really like.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Look, we're so impatient these days, and I've seen stories
- 21:46Speaker 2: about what the Jaguars draft class isn't We're six games in, yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 2: and their rookies we have to right, So this guy
- 21:55Speaker 2: is already a good player, meaning he's a really good blocker.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Mayor the tank they be played at the beginning of
- 22:01Speaker 2: the season carry Tank in.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I'll tell you what I did a Jordan Phillips last
- 22:04Speaker 3: week was epic.
- 22:04Speaker 2: He's a really good blocker already. You're seeing what he
- 22:08Speaker 2: can do on this play. He has athleticism to do
- 22:10Speaker 2: this in this offense when you've got seventy five skill
- 22:14Speaker 2: guys who are all good. Breton Strange is not going
- 22:17Speaker 2: to be a huge factor all season in the way
- 22:19Speaker 2: that Ingram is because how many balls you have to
- 22:21Speaker 2: go around. But he started showing yesterday what he can
- 22:25Speaker 2: give you is a wrinkle. Am I saying fans have
- 22:29Speaker 2: just been killing Breton Strange. But the ones who had
- 22:31Speaker 2: me to get off his back because he's good.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Draft ded we talked about Breton Strange and Tank big speed,
- 22:37Speaker 3: second and third pick right, second third round picks, guys
- 22:40Speaker 3: who would have a role in the offense. We're starting
- 22:42Speaker 3: to see that now. Tank's got a master protection, but
- 22:45Speaker 3: he has upside on the field, just like this kid.
- 22:48Speaker 3: If by the end of the year, these two guys
- 22:49Speaker 3: have a package, each one of them have their own,
- 22:52Speaker 3: then this offense will really be playing well. Well.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Tanks this year obviously is going to be It's hard
- 22:59Speaker 2: as a coaching staff to find ways to get etn
- 23:01Speaker 2: off the field right now.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Well, I'm not taking the ball out of his hands,
- 23:04Speaker 3: that's true, but just talking to guys, you know, oh,
- 23:06Speaker 3: he'll be in there now. It isn't mastered protections yet,
- 23:08Speaker 3: and it's tough to have him out there with the quarterback,
- 23:10Speaker 3: especially with the offensive line not playing as well as
- 23:12Speaker 3: it has.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Unfortunately, at the point that the team is at now
- 23:15Speaker 1: with drafting, you can give them the time to figure
- 23:17Speaker 1: that out. It's not You're not throwing them in there
- 23:19Speaker 1: trying to figure it out on the fly. They have
- 23:21Speaker 1: the ability now with the way the roster is put together.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Stay with us.
- 23:24Speaker 1: We've got hot takes coming up after the break here
- 23:27Speaker 1: on Jags Aments from five to six on October twenty fourth. Again,
- 23:35Speaker 1: you're gonna want to head the publics and Etown Parkway
- 23:38Speaker 1: again in Jacksonville on Tuesday, October twenty fourth, from five
- 23:41Speaker 1: to six to meet members of the Jaguars. Also today's
- 23:45Speaker 1: show presented by Magellan and Move the Freight, Move the
- 23:47Speaker 1: Freight Magellan Transport voting the coolest office space in Jacksonville.
- 23:50Speaker 1: You can apply on line at www dot Magellan Logistics
- 23:53Speaker 1: dot com. Back here on Jags Am and we're ready
- 23:57Speaker 1: for some blazing hot takes. When you had one, you
- 24:00Speaker 1: didn't want to spoil it ahead of time to police
- 24:02Speaker 1: share with this now, way you take it.
- 24:03Speaker 3: People might have figured this out, but I would air
- 24:07Speaker 3: on the side of caution this week, and I would
- 24:09Speaker 3: sit injured players. Now, look, if the quarterback comes out,
- 24:12Speaker 3: you know, we find out today, no problem. You know,
- 24:14Speaker 3: just stuck the knee in the ground. It felt wrong,
- 24:16Speaker 3: but he's fine. Well, then play it right. But it's
- 24:18Speaker 3: your third game in twelve days. It is a non
- 24:21Speaker 3: conference game on the road on Thursday night. You've got
- 24:24Speaker 3: two starting offensive linemen that probably won't play, maybe a
- 24:27Speaker 3: starting corner that won't play. My thought is sit them all.
- 24:31Speaker 3: The Cleveland Browns found a way to beat the mighty
- 24:33Speaker 3: San Francisco forty nine ers yesterday with p J Walker
- 24:36Speaker 3: p J Walker as their starting quarterback.
- 24:38Speaker 2: They did it with defense. They took the ball away.
- 24:41Speaker 3: You know, put a game plan together, put the guys
- 24:43Speaker 3: in that have been working hard, you know, on the
- 24:45Speaker 3: practice field. But take this opportunity to give all these
- 24:48Speaker 3: guys two weeks to get ready for a conference game
- 24:52Speaker 3: against the Steelers. I would air on the side of
- 24:54Speaker 3: caution and if it's even a question of could sit
- 24:56Speaker 3: them all.
- 24:56Speaker 2: This week, yeah, I think for the most part they will.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Guys like Zay Jones and Walker Little.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Brent Sheriff, Tyson Campbell.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I would do that before I would do it
- 25:08Speaker 2: with the quarterback because the quarterback gives you a shot.
- 25:11Speaker 2: It's so tough. It's just a matter of really how
- 25:14Speaker 2: we're getting can he protect them himself? Will be as
- 25:19Speaker 2: always the gauge you use, So I agree to a point,
- 25:24Speaker 2: but they basically do that anyway. If a guys going
- 25:27Speaker 2: to be marginal and can't protect themself, they won't play it.
- 25:30Speaker 3: You're not going fifteen to two, right, I mean, you're
- 25:32Speaker 3: not winning the rest of the games this season. You
- 25:34Speaker 3: probably have four to five games you know that you
- 25:36Speaker 3: lose this year, even if you're a really good team.
- 25:39Speaker 3: So I'm willing to sacrifice and take my chances with
- 25:42Speaker 3: my backups. Again, you know, watching how the Browns got
- 25:45Speaker 3: it done yesterday with their defense. I think you could
- 25:48Speaker 3: be in a good spot. I just it's the quarterback obviously.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I mean everybody else, but it's the quarterback in particular.
- 25:54Speaker 3: And we'll find out what the doctors saying.
- 25:56Speaker 2: We will.
- 25:56Speaker 1: We'll have some more information coming up later in the week,
- 25:58Speaker 1: so we'll have a better idea in what we can
- 26:00Speaker 1: share with you guys on Wednesday, John, what's your hot
- 26:02Speaker 1: take for this week?
- 26:03Speaker 2: I feel like I've probably used this hot take already,
- 26:05Speaker 2: so maybe it's luc it's important. But every time you
- 26:11Speaker 2: say the defense is good and then you sort of
- 26:13Speaker 2: go and they play well, and everybody's like, oh, well,
- 26:16Speaker 2: oh well, look at the defense, I'm surprised. Well, I
- 26:19Speaker 2: guess it's time to stop being surprised. These guys are good.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Forty two turnovers in twenty three games under called well, now,
- 26:27Speaker 2: it's what they do. They're an effective pass rush and
- 26:33Speaker 2: they use it all the time when they rush as
- 26:34Speaker 2: a team. Josh Allen is the star, but these guys
- 26:39Speaker 2: pressure the quarterback. They affect I think they're going to
- 26:42Speaker 2: be better when they get Devon Hamilton back, and Smooth's
- 26:44Speaker 2: gonna help that so until they show us different. It's
- 26:49Speaker 2: really two plays, two miscommunications against the Texans that are
- 26:54Speaker 2: the only really flaw on this defense's resume this year.
- 26:57Speaker 2: These guys are good and I don't see any reason
- 26:59Speaker 2: why they won't be. Look in the NFL, he gets
- 27:01Speaker 2: seventeen games defenses, They're going to have a couple of
- 27:05Speaker 2: games where the offense is just roll because the league
- 27:07Speaker 2: set up that way right now. But I think his
- 27:09Speaker 2: defense will play very, very well, winning football thirteen or
- 27:12Speaker 2: fourteen times.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Listen, they're number one in the AFC in run defense,
- 27:16Speaker 3: number three in the NFL. Right they are giving up
- 27:19Speaker 3: seventy five yards on the ground. They're second in yards
- 27:22Speaker 3: per rushing attempt at three point five. That is winning
- 27:25Speaker 3: football when you do that and you forced the opposing
- 27:28Speaker 3: quarterback to throw fifty five times. I was reading last week,
- 27:32Speaker 3: we're gonna get two or three up. There was a
- 27:34Speaker 3: reporter who covers the Colts who made a prediction, and
- 27:36Speaker 3: I get a prediction, start conversation. But he thought that
- 27:38Speaker 3: the Colts would run for two hundred because they had
- 27:41Speaker 3: more time with Jonathan Taylor and more time with Zack Moss. Well,
- 27:44Speaker 3: there was no way they were going to run for
- 27:46Speaker 3: two hundred yards none because of this Jaguars defense. Is
- 27:49Speaker 3: that good. I bring that up because obviously the rest
- 27:51Speaker 3: of the league is slow to catch on that this
- 27:54Speaker 3: defense is legit. It is legit.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I think sometimes defenses don't get the credit there because
- 28:00Speaker 1: you look at the box score and they're like, oh,
- 28:01Speaker 1: they allowed twenty points.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Oh they allowed this.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But it's like when you're creating turnovers like that, that's
- 28:06Speaker 1: more valuable in my opinion, in the league.
- 28:07Speaker 3: They're number three against the run, really super impressive. I
- 28:10Speaker 3: think they're twelfth overall because their pass defense isn't very good.
- 28:14Speaker 3: But when you stopped the run and you forced teams
- 28:17Speaker 3: to throw, like the Bills and the Culture coming from behind,
- 28:21Speaker 3: same thing with the Falcons the last three games. You've
- 28:24Speaker 3: shut down the run and you forced teams to throw
- 28:26Speaker 3: to try to play catchup. Well, you're gonna give up
- 28:28Speaker 3: some yardage. That's the way the league is set up.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Yeah, out of the twelfth. You know, when you rank
- 28:34Speaker 2: twelve means given them a lot of yards or yardage
- 28:38Speaker 2: in one category or the other. Well, think about how
- 28:40Speaker 2: many of those yards have come in chunk plays. With
- 28:43Speaker 2: the Jaguars leading by double ditch at the end of
- 28:45Speaker 2: the games the bunch against the Bills, which the Bills stuff.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I'm not discounting it, but it was still in sort
- 28:52Speaker 2: of protect time. They're a good defense, and if a
- 28:59Speaker 2: lot of the yards the last two weeks, you can't
- 29:03Speaker 2: watch those games and say the defense played poorly in
- 29:06Speaker 2: those games. So they're a good defense five out of
- 29:09Speaker 2: six times this year.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Yep.
- 29:10Speaker 1: All right for my hot take, I'm going elsewhere in
- 29:12Speaker 1: the division because I think the Texans are going to
- 29:14Speaker 1: be trouble. I know we talked a lot about the
- 29:16Speaker 1: Titans always have that in them, but they really haven't
- 29:19Speaker 1: put much together at least a third of the way
- 29:20Speaker 1: through the season.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Right now.
- 29:21Speaker 4: C J.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Stroud is still on an amazing pace. He did throw
- 29:24Speaker 1: his first pick of the year, but didn't rattle, and
- 29:26Speaker 1: he came right back through two touchdowns through I think
- 29:29Speaker 1: one hundred and ninety nine yards and got to win
- 29:31Speaker 1: over the Saints. And I think for this team to
- 29:34Speaker 1: be able to do what they're doing, Demiko Riins is
- 29:36Speaker 1: amazing in his first year as a head coach. He's
- 29:38Speaker 1: clearly bringing that tenacity that they need. And yes, they're
- 29:41Speaker 1: overachieving at this point. But that's the trouble. And obviously
- 29:44Speaker 1: with that loss to them we've had earlier in the season,
- 29:46Speaker 1: they worry me a little more than I thought they
- 29:48Speaker 1: were going to at this point in the year.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Yeah, me too. C J. Stroud is an effortless passer
- 29:53Speaker 3: of the ball. I mean, he's just so gifted. They
- 29:56Speaker 3: don't have a lot of down the field weapons, but
- 29:58Speaker 3: he makes the most of what he does have. And
- 30:00Speaker 3: Denika Ryans as a defense that's not all that talented, right,
- 30:03Speaker 3: but he's got them playing at a very high level.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So as long as they stay close, c J. Stroud
- 30:08Speaker 3: gives them a chance to win, and that means they'll
- 30:10Speaker 3: be in this thing longer than I thought they would be.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're the Jags, you I mean, it's sort
- 30:15Speaker 2: of of course, John, you want them to lose a
- 30:19Speaker 2: couple and get a little bit of air between you
- 30:23Speaker 2: and them, because you've got to go there at some point,
- 30:27Speaker 2: and if you go there playing with a one game lead,
- 30:30Speaker 2: then all of a sudden you're playing at their place,
- 30:33Speaker 2: and if they beat you, they got the suite, So
- 30:34Speaker 2: all of a sudden, they becomes a really pressure game
- 30:36Speaker 2: unless you got a little air with you.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Well, and you saw cracking the armor the kid through
- 30:39Speaker 3: his first interception, which means that teams are starting to
- 30:42Speaker 3: kind of figure out, you know, how they're using him.
- 30:44Speaker 3: He'll have other games like that. But you still they're
- 30:47Speaker 3: gonna apply pressure, and you know that that's probably a
- 30:49Speaker 3: good thing, right for this team not to be able
- 30:52Speaker 3: to coast to the division title, you have to fight
- 30:54Speaker 3: for it because they showed us last year. They like that, right,
- 30:57Speaker 3: that's who this team is. Having the Texans on their
- 31:01Speaker 3: heels will make it more interesting for us and more
- 31:05Speaker 3: intense for them, and that's probably good.
- 31:07Speaker 2: You know what they like more than that two game leads.
- 31:11Speaker 3: We gotta fight for it.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Build's character. We gotta fight for it.
- 31:14Speaker 3: But you're right, and this is who they are. They
- 31:16Speaker 3: played better, Yeah, under pressure.
- 31:18Speaker 1: All right, Coming up, we're gonna preview what we've got
