- 0:08You see?
- 0:09You start. You start. You start. Hi, everyone.
- 0:12We're just talking and welcome to this episode of Tony and Sarah Unscripted.
- 0:16You know,
- 0:16it's been a while since Sarah and I just sat down and caught up with our lives.
- 0:21So that's what we're going to do tonight.
- 0:22So enjoy.
- 0:24I'm going to start asking Sarah.
- 0:27Yeah. Boy.
- 0:28Oh, boy.
- 0:28What's the matter?
- 0:29What happened? I'm going to get Italian on. You know.
- 0:31So tell me what's going on.
- 0:33Anything new and exciting?
- 0:36Let's see.
- 0:37I feel like I feel like
- 0:40I am just going, going, going, going, going.
- 0:43And I think a lot of times I use that as a almost a protection of
- 0:47I don't want to deal with maybe how I'm feeling or things that are feeling.
- 0:52So I just go, go, go.
- 0:53So I took a new job, which I love.
- 0:55It's a big girl job.
- 0:57Oh, a big girl job.
- 0:59Finally, finally.
- 1:00So, but I do that from 11 to 4, which I was like, that's perfect, because
- 1:04I'll still have my time in the morning and still have time in the evening.
- 1:08But then I also started
- 1:09taking on teaching more classes because I teach, teach, spin and TRX now.
- 1:14Okay, so hold on for one second. Time out.
- 1:16I want you to tell the audience, what time do you do a spin class?
- 1:19I know 530. In the morning.
- 1:21I know in the morning.
- 1:23But, Tony, I have done that on a Wednesday morning
- 1:27at 530 for probably 11 or 12 years.
- 1:30What time do you get up? Three.
- 1:31No, I get up at 430.
- 1:34So on a on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
- 1:37I teach at 530 in the morning and it's either spin or T-Rex.
- 1:42And then I took on a Thursday morning class a little later,
- 1:45a little bit more manageable.
- 1:47830. Oh, yeah.
- 1:48You can handle that.
- 1:49And then I teach Saturday mornings.
- 1:52So here I am, loving this new job that I got,
- 1:55but and I still have
- 1:59the teaching classes, which I've taken more of.
- 2:02And then Alex, of course, of course.
- 2:06And then the family. Right.
- 2:07Just just being a mom.
- 2:09So I'm trying to figure out how to kind of balance everything.
- 2:12Yeah.
- 2:12Because work and work and life balance is super important.
- 2:15Yeah. But let me ask you a question.
- 2:17So when you get up at four.
- 2:193030.
- 2:22When you get up at 430
- 2:24to do your class, that means you work from 430 to 4.
- 2:27Really that day.
- 2:28Yeah. Probably. Right. That's a long time. Yeah I suppose.
- 2:31But here's the funny thing is I need my sleep.
- 2:35So if I don't have a good night's sleep
- 2:36and I'm a 430, say my class is done by 630.
- 2:406:45. I'm home around seven. I'll sleep.
- 2:42I'll go on the couch and sleep for like, an hour.
- 2:45Oh, wow.
- 2:45So that I can then feel okay for the rest of the day.
- 2:48Because otherwise I'll be absolutely exhausted.
- 2:50So I figure out how to do it.
- 2:52And then we just, I say celebrated.
- 2:55But that's not the right word.
- 2:56We just had Cameron's one year since his stroke.
- 3:00Yeah.
- 3:00And that was very emotional.
- 3:03More than I thought it would be for.
- 3:05For me, Cameron is like myself and Cameron's partner
- 3:10always say we just want Cameron to cry.
- 3:11It would be great if he would just cry once in a while.
- 3:14Like I made this what I thought was a really good emotional video for him,
- 3:19which kind of all the pictures and videos you're in it actually, of that
- 3:24of that time in his life and I would say like,
- 3:26this is I'd say that this is when you were going to rehab and,
- 3:29you know, this is, you know, all this stuff.
- 3:31So and it wasn't I mean, not even a slight tier.
- 3:35Nothing.
- 3:36And his partner was there and his partner almost cried.
- 3:39And I'm like, let's can you just just
- 3:41just pinch him or something just to get some sort of emotion?
- 3:44But it might be because he lived it.
- 3:46Yeah, probably.
- 3:47I mean, you just said to me that you think you fill up your day
- 3:51so that you don't have to deal with your shit.
- 3:53Yeah.
- 3:53And, you know, sometimes the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
- 3:56He might not want to get emotional.
- 3:59I mean, the celebration of his life was what you did.
- 4:01And that's exactly.
- 4:02That's the way to say it. Right. The celebration of life.
- 4:04How far? He's far.
- 4:05He's come.
- 4:06My God, I remember walking into that ICU, I.
- 4:09I could not believe that in a week.
- 4:13The turnaround.
- 4:14I mean, he was real.
- 4:15I I've never seen anybody in that state, you know, intubated
- 4:18and didn't really kind of know like.
- 4:21Yeah, man, that was close.
- 4:22That was a close call.
- 4:24Yeah.
- 4:24And, yeah, it was way too close.
- 4:28So. But he's doing. Yeah.
- 4:30Which, as you said, and my brother said, it seems a lot longer.
- 4:33And I think it's because of everything.
- 4:35It wasn't just that, like my son when he had a car accident.
- 4:38A terrible car accident. My middle child.
- 4:41It was like it just happened then.
- 4:42And then everything else got better afterwards.
- 4:44But for Cameron, it was like it was that.
- 4:46And then it was putting his skull back in, and then it was gamma knife,
- 4:50and then it was seizure after seizure after seizure.
- 4:51So it's a continuous thing. Yeah. And
- 4:56when people ask me, how is Cameron?
- 4:59I say, you know, Joe and I never know how to answer that
- 5:02because we're like, well, he's good, but he had a stroke.
- 5:05His life is forever altered.
- 5:06And he's it's been a year now, so most of what he's going to get back,
- 5:10he's got back. But oh really.
- 5:11He's got you know he's still cognitively it's
- 5:13so difficult for him as far as he's his short term memory.
- 5:17He's struggling being in person at school, at college.
- 5:21So he's looking to switch to online.
- 5:22And what I said to him yesterday was I love the camera doesn't give up.
- 5:25I love that Cameron doesn't say, you know what?
- 5:27Forget this. Yeah.
- 5:28I just don't want to do it right now.
- 5:29I don't want to be a social worker anymore. I don't.
- 5:31He's like, okay, this is really hard.
- 5:33I need to figure something out to do. And so that's what he's doing.
- 5:36He's switching him and his brother, who loves to do research.
- 5:39His oldest brother, he's researching what college he can go to to do
- 5:44completely online, to do the social work, to get the social work degree.
- 5:48Yeah. And
- 5:50that's what I think
- 5:51impresses me so much about Cameron is that he has never given up. No.
- 5:56And a lot of people, because he says to me, what do what do you expect?
- 6:00What do you think I would do?
- 6:01I said, Cameron, do you know how many people would struggle to get out of bed,
- 6:06give anything, they would give in to it.
- 6:09So, so he's good.
- 6:11He's he's really good.
- 6:13And then, you know, like,
- 6:16I, I struggle to say life is good right now.
- 6:19I, I, I worry in saying that.
- 6:22Why are you worried?
- 6:22Because I said because Joe and I sat in our backyard.
- 6:26Not this past August, but the August before.
- 6:28And Cameron was doing well, and he was just going to start southern.
- 6:32And my other two, Nicholas and Matthew, were doing well.
- 6:34And we'd both, you know, would come into this new house and we were liking it.
- 6:38And so we were literally sitting outside in our backyard.
- 6:40It was a beautiful day.
- 6:41And we were both like, Yeah.
- 6:44And six weeks later, Cameron had a stroke.
- 6:47Yeah, but how is life right now?
- 6:49Now it's good. Okay.
- 6:51But it was good then. To write. But living that. Yeah.
- 6:53Living the goodness. Yeah.
- 6:55You know, and I, I mean you know, hold gratitude.
- 6:58That's something that amazes me with Cameron
- 7:00is that through everything
- 7:03he had such a cheerful
- 7:07like he was happy.
- 7:08Yeah, it was hard.
- 7:10But every time he was around people,
- 7:13maybe I don't know what he did in private and maybe he was trying to be,
- 7:17I don't think I think really in his heart he was happy to be alive.
- 7:21Because what was the alternative.
- 7:23Right. You know.
- 7:24So that was just he's always he, he has always amazed me.
- 7:29Me too.
- 7:29Yeah. Me too. Yeah.
- 7:33So that so that's that I, I, I feel like life is, is good at the moment.
- 7:37I'm just taking that and I'm embracing that.
- 7:39And I'm so busy with just trying to to do more things with Alex.
- 7:44I just had a great meeting with three kids because I thought,
- 7:47we're having difficulty getting through to the schools
- 7:49and to the students through administration, understandably so.
- 7:53But they don't know about us.
- 7:55They don't know that we have this location in Guilford.
- 7:57Kids in Guilford don't know that we're there. Oh, I know.
- 7:59So I'm two of them reached out to me who have no one.
- 8:05Her her step mother had come and did an author talk.
- 8:09And so she connected her senior, her stepchild, with me and said
- 8:14that, you know, this this young girl would love to get involved.
- 8:17And another one I knew just over the years,
- 8:20because she has been a vendor and incredible human being.
- 8:23She would make some great things and she would make about $500
- 8:27and she would donate every penny to Alex.
- 8:30Wow. Every penny. Wow.
- 8:32Just incredible humans.
- 8:33So she reached out to me a few days with the other one reaching out to me.
- 8:38And then this other younger girl who's about.
- 8:41Well yeah, they're about 15.
- 8:43They have come to the Alex space and they also go to Guilford High School.
- 8:47So I was like the three of you kids get together.
- 8:50And they did.
- 8:51And we got together tonight at the and and they had some fantastic ideas.
- 8:55And I said, listen, they often say from the mouth of babes. Right.
- 8:58Well you have to you want you want the people who you're serving
- 9:01to tell you what they need.
- 9:02It's like I always say, there's a bunch of adults sitting at a table.
- 9:05Don't know what the youth needs at this.
- 9:07At this moment, I am super excited that you talk to them.
- 9:09Absolutely. And they one of them even said
- 9:13she was like, wow.
- 9:14I just think that, you know, we we don't like all these bright lights.
- 9:18We don't like this Walmart lighting.
- 9:20We need like fairy lights.
- 9:21We need soft lights and very light.
- 9:24Yeah.
- 9:24I was like, well, I'll do you tell me what you need and I will do it for you.
- 9:29You know, bring me the people, tell me what you need
- 9:31and I'll absolutely make this.
- 9:33And they love the space.
- 9:33They're like, it's so cozy, it's so nice.
- 9:36But let's just dim the lights. But let's talk.
- 9:38Let's talk about, like, takes time for organizations to get out there.
- 9:43Yeah. You know, the space was open.
- 9:46Not even a year.
- 9:47You know, patience is what we have to be.
- 9:50I mean, you know, we have to outreach, outreach, outreach as we're doing. So.
- 9:55I'm so happy, though.
- 9:56You got the right audience in front. Of it.
- 9:58I do, and these are three kids that want to help.
- 10:02And they really want to do stuff for Alex.
- 10:05And they see the importance of it.
- 10:07Yeah. So and so that was great.
- 10:09And then How's Joe doing?
- 10:12Joe are the our favorite guests.
- 10:15Our kind of song. Sorry, Joe.
- 10:18No, Joe is great.
- 10:20Joe was great.
- 10:21I think we're kind of embracing life together, just the two of us.
- 10:24Even though my oldest is home. But he's not really home, you know?
- 10:26I mean, he's there, but he's not really there.
- 10:28Trying new things.
- 10:30We're going away this weekend.
- 10:31I have a little surprise vacation for him planned.
- 10:33It's only a couple of days, but we're going to Maine.
- 10:35We're going to wait.
- 10:37Will this air before?
- 10:38No, we're going to Kitty Bunk Pausch, which I've never been to,
- 10:41but I've heard great things about it.
- 10:43So, Joe doesn't like to travel far, though, so I was like, Joe,
- 10:46it's going to be about 3.5 hours, maybe more.
- 10:49He's like, you drive.
- 10:50I said, of course. I will. Does he?
- 10:51So he's not going to know until you get there? Nope. He has no idea.
- 10:54Oh I love that. Yeah. Yeah. So
- 10:57so we're doing that.
- 10:58But that's, that's that's really it.
- 11:01And, and my main question is you.
- 11:03Yeah. Oh.
- 11:04How are you?
- 11:07Trying to be okay.
- 11:08Yeah. If that makes sense.
- 11:10Yeah I, I.
- 11:14It gets me
- 11:15very angry that something so terrible happened to such a wonderful person
- 11:20who was doing so much good in the world, and it was literally taken
- 11:25and just thrown back into your face and and weaponized against you.
- 11:29And. Well, that's one thing that that was terrible, how I was targeted.
- 11:32That was terrible. Yes.
- 11:34I think what hurts my heart
- 11:37and really and, you know, I'm always honest, even on any social media
- 11:41and I'm honest on the show, what really brings me the most sadness
- 11:45is that nobody reaches out anymore.
- 11:49I mean, I was a person that was going.
- 11:5124 over seven helping people organization.
- 11:54Say, Tony, you want to sit on a panel? Hey, Tony, can you speak here?
- 11:56Hey, Tony, I have this kid.
- 11:58No one. It is crickets.
- 12:00And that brings me sadness because,
- 12:05well,
- 12:06it brought me sadness until I had this therapy session that kind of,
- 12:09like, helped me, shout out to my therapist.
- 12:15When I started the support
- 12:16groups for kids in 2008, not one person was doing anything.
- 12:19Not one organization in Connecticut was really,
- 12:22I mean, True Colors was doing something, but they didn't have anything for just
- 12:25trans kids because back then they were putting the trans kids in
- 12:28with the LGBT kids, and the LGBT kids were LGBT kids were making fun of the kids.
- 12:33That's why I started the groups in New Haven.
- 12:36Yeah, I didn't I don't need anybody to do what I do.
- 12:40I've done it.
- 12:41But what hurts is the way everybody just, like, dropped me like a hot potato.
- 12:47And I understand that if having some type of relationship with me is going to hurt
- 12:52an organization, I absolutely don't want you to have a relationship with me.
- 12:56But why don't we sit down and talk about it or do it?
- 13:00You know, like, hey, still ask me for my opinion?
- 13:02I mean, I was just
- 13:03when I tell you the silence and the isolation that I have gone through
- 13:06this past year and a half has been emotionally damaging, really has.
- 13:11I've seen it.
- 13:12Oh, yeah. You've seen it. I've, I've I've seen it.
- 13:15And the uncertainty.
- 13:16Uncertainty is like I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep my house.
- 13:21I haven't found a job yet, you know.
- 13:23And and that uncertainty brings me into a freaking spiral, you know.
- 13:28And that's what happens, right?
- 13:29We start writing the stories, you know.
- 13:32But I like
- 13:35was it your therapist that told you work for 4
- 13:38or 5 hours a day, meaning do some thing, some sort of right.
- 13:42And I, I think that's so important because when I wasn't working,
- 13:49I was laying on a couch watching TV,
- 13:51getting all sorts of things in my head that I shouldn't have.
- 13:55Yeah.
- 13:55Getting to places I shouldn't be because you you just have that time.
- 14:01You could easily.
- 14:05Lay on that couch and.
- 14:06Oh, yeah.
- 14:06Yeah.
- 14:07What was me? But.
- 14:08And maybe you got there at times.
- 14:10I do. I am there at times still.
- 14:12But you also know that you need to get out and go for walks. Yep.
- 14:16You need to still reach out to people and to still obviously look for jobs.
- 14:21But also.
- 14:22Yeah.
- 14:23Also you're continuously trying to
- 14:27to do things to feel better.
- 14:30I in March I said to myself, you have to control what you have control over.
- 14:34And I started taking care of myself.
- 14:35I've dropped 24 pounds.
- 14:37I almost walk every day.
- 14:39I feel good about that.
- 14:40I eat healthy now and I just.
- 14:42I feel really good.
- 14:44I've also put close to 200 applications in and I haven't.
- 14:49I think I got one interview that was it. Out of the 200.
- 14:51I think it's ageism.
- 14:52I think they figure out how old I am,
- 14:54and I'm not a young person physically, but I'm very immature.
- 14:58If they only new.
- 14:59Album and, you know, I'm developing workshops for corporate around
- 15:04kindness and corporate bullying
- 15:05and understanding it and like different types of leaders like,
- 15:08you know, there's toxic leaders, there's nice leaders and there's kind leaders.
- 15:12You want to be a kind leader, all that stuff.
- 15:14And I'm reaching out to people.
- 15:16I'm doing everything I can
- 15:17to try to bring some income in because there's no income at all.
- 15:21So I'm trying.
- 15:24No, I, I will say that I have never seen somebody work as hard as you have in that
- 15:28and I
- 15:29but I'm also really like I would say to Cameron,
- 15:31I would say to you that I'm super proud that you haven't just
- 15:35let it all in and just said, forget it.
- 15:37You know.
- 15:37I've had days where I was like, is it really worth it?
- 15:40But then I bring myself back into the present and right now I am okay.
- 15:44I, I love my home.
- 15:46I get up every morning, I, I can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- 15:48I go for walks on the beach.
- 15:50You know, life isn't bad.
- 15:52It's just the uncertainty of my future where I get stuck.
- 15:55Yeah. You know, and that's.
- 15:56I think a lot of people kind of get stuck in that situation.
- 16:00But you got to be grateful for what you have.
- 16:03And I will tell you what I told drew.
- 16:05You know, we had drew on the show, too.
- 16:07And I said, rest up, my friend, because once this administration changes,
- 16:11diversity and inclusion training is going to be all what it's about,
- 16:13and we're going to be really freaking busy.
- 16:15Yes. So I'm already developing trainings for I mean, I have so many trainings
- 16:19that are developed for when the gate opens
- 16:23and people want diversity training.
- 16:26I mean, in schools and stuff like that, like inclusion.
- 16:28Schools have gone very quiet. Very quiet.
- 16:31Not necessarily because they've had to, though.
- 16:33I think they I think they're doing it.
- 16:35I think they're afraid of losing federal funding.
- 16:37And that's a lot a part of their it's me.
- 16:40What did they say like 510% of their budget.
- 16:42That's that's what I was told at one point.
- 16:44I don't know if that's true or not.
- 16:45But you know it's just like you have to think about that.
- 16:48If that part of their budget, say
- 16:52gets a para to be one on one with a kid
- 16:55that has a disability, we wouldn't want that taken away from them.
- 16:59I mean, you know, it's it's unfortunate that
- 17:04like what happened the other day
- 17:05when I was at that library for the authors thing.
- 17:09Right.
- 17:10I'm sitting there and I really debated,
- 17:13do I put all my books out or did I just put the memoir out?
- 17:17But I put all of them out.
- 17:19I put Artistic Expressions of Transgender Youth, volume one and two, and my memoir,
- 17:23and this older gentleman comes walking by my table,
- 17:26and he's looking and he's looking, and then he looks at me
- 17:30and he says, oh my God, you look really masculine.
- 17:35And I wanted to say he must have because I wrote about transgender.
- 17:39He must think I'm transgender
- 17:40because nowhere on my table did it say I'm I'm trans, right?
- 17:44Not nowhere, not kiss me. I'm trans.
- 17:46Nothing. Okay.
- 17:48That's a new pen, Tony.
- 17:49Yeah. Kiss me. I'm trying. Or hug me.
- 17:51Kissing is a little too much right now for me.
- 17:54I'm. I'm emotionally unavailable.
- 17:55Anyway, so I said to him like, oh, thank you.
- 17:58I think so too, you know?
- 17:59And he says, listen, I'm, I respect the transgenders.
- 18:03Now, right away, I know that he is not educated.
- 18:06Right. And I'm trying.
- 18:07I'm just I, my superpower is being kind to people who aren't kind to me.
- 18:12It's very important.
- 18:14And as soon as he started
- 18:16talking like that, I said to myself, remember who you are.
- 18:21In other words,
- 18:22no matter what this guy says to me, if he's screaming in my face and if I
- 18:26yell back, look at the trans person, what an asshole, a trans person is it?
- 18:30I knew that from the beginning, when I started
- 18:32making the decision to be public and be a voice for kids,
- 18:36that I always needed to be kind, I needed to set that example.
- 18:40So he goes on to say, you know, I'm just saying I
- 18:43and he's Italian, so I know I'm Italian, so I know exactly what he's going to say.
- 18:47He's like, I'm just saying,
- 18:48like, I'm not pushing my own stuff, but there's only male and female.
- 18:51That's it.
- 18:53Now, I could have agreed with him and said, yeah, I'm male,
- 18:55but I honor my non-binary friends.
- 18:58So I wouldn't say that.
- 18:59And I said to him, you know, it's there, we definitely disagree on this.
- 19:04But we can I mean we just don't have to hate or hurt each other.
- 19:07I wish you peace.
- 19:08That's exactly what I said thinking that this guy is going to like walk away.
- 19:12Yeah.
- 19:12So he says, well, now listen, like I'm not going to push my my point here, but
- 19:17this country has gone too far
- 19:20and schools have to stop teaching this shit, okay?
- 19:24They need to teach reading, writing and arithmetic and not pissed me off.
- 19:29I'm going to be totally honest.
- 19:30That pissed me off.
- 19:32But I kept it in and I said, well, let me give you
- 19:35a little bit of an educational moment here, sir.
- 19:39Schools aren't teaching it.
- 19:40You can't teach this.
- 19:42What schools are doing is they're honoring students,
- 19:45how they identify
- 19:46and how they want to be called so that they feel like they belong,
- 19:49so they can learn, so they can thrive like everybody else.
- 19:52Well, these kids are too young to know.
- 19:55And I said, did you know?
- 19:57And I caught him off guard.
- 19:59And I said, did you know? And he was like, what?
- 20:01I said, did you know you were a boy when you were younger?
- 20:04Well, yeah, of course.
- 20:05I said, well then we know.
- 20:08Well, no, they're too young to know that.
- 20:10I said, you just said, you know,
- 20:13I said, isn't it sad that people who are trans and non-binary,
- 20:16the only kids that are questioned about their gender, are them?
- 20:19Nobody questions assist gender non trans kid if how they know who they are.
- 20:23Yeah I said but you know again sir we could agree to disagree.
- 20:28Okay I wish you peace.
- 20:29And he finally left but I was just exhausted.
- 20:32I was like really?
- 20:34Like first of all there's nowhere on my table that says I'm trans, you know?
- 20:39And thank you for without a like, a half compliment. Exactly.
- 20:42That's a backhand of block.
- 20:43Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.
- 20:45But I had an interaction kind of like that on Facebook
- 20:48with I have a, a Facebook friend. Right.
- 20:52So not I'm somebody I met throughout the past however
- 20:55many years of my life, five six years and became Facebook friends.
- 20:58So he's always so good with being pro trans always.
- 21:01He just always posts these things.
- 21:04And he posted something.
- 21:07And then this one
- 21:09woman starts down the whole like, what are you posting this about?
- 21:13There's no correlation between what you're saying and, and it was about,
- 21:17about being transgender and
- 21:20I don't really know specifically, but
- 21:23she goes down the whole path about sports,
- 21:26and she goes on the whole path about lockers and bathrooms.
- 21:29And I'm reading this thing, and I and I don't know her at all, and
- 21:33I prefer to sometimes I prefer to go back and forth with people that I don't know.
- 21:37Yeah. Oh yeah. That's. Yeah. Yeah.
- 21:38And so
- 21:40I just said to her and I'm always very, very respectful,
- 21:44I can't stand how people are just like nasty to each other.
- 21:48It's just not a conversation to have.
- 21:50So I thought I was like, well,
- 21:51let me see if I can just help her out a little bit here.
- 21:54So I sort of just said, what do you mean by
- 21:56bathrooms and lockers?
- 21:59And she said, well,
- 22:01there's enough information out there.
- 22:03There's enough stories about this. Have you not seen the lawsuits?
- 22:05Is your head in the sand?
- 22:07And I said, no, no, no.
- 22:09My head is not in the sand.
- 22:11I said, I am personally
- 22:14I personally know about this.
- 22:16So, I just wonder where you're getting your information from.
- 22:21Yeah.
- 22:23And she just what she responded was,
- 22:27I don't want to say just Fox, but that's what it was.
- 22:30I was almost just said to you when you said, where's she going?
- 22:32I almost said, Fox. But that's what it is.
- 22:35And every time I put Fox News on for any reason or comes on or whatever,
- 22:38or my in-laws have it on, I'm like, what is this rubbish?
- 22:42It's rubbish.
- 22:43And they and so this is she is just like,
- 22:47she's just spewing out whatever like ridiculousness.
- 22:51She's, she's, she's listening to. Yeah.
- 22:53And I and I said to her
- 22:56I wish you had compassion
- 22:58for something that you clearly don't know anything about.
- 23:00I wish that you would understand the some of the things that you're hearing
- 23:04are absolute falsehoods. Yeah.
- 23:07And I hope that you never have to deal with anything like this
- 23:10where you have a loved one who's living in a world
- 23:14that is trying to
- 23:16basically destroy them.
- 23:18And she never responded when I got personal with it.
- 23:21Yeah, she stopped responding.
- 23:23And I don't mind that because I'm going to talk to you about the reality.
- 23:27You're just talking Fox News to me and whatever else
- 23:30right wing stuff you're listening to.
- 23:32And I don't really get into that whole right wing, left wing thing.
- 23:35You know, I'm not really political like that in that way. Yeah.
- 23:37The reality is you live with a child who has trend.
- 23:40You have an answer, uncle, who is trans, you have friends who have trans.
- 23:43You know what it is.
- 23:44You know what?
- 23:45What it's like.
- 23:46Yeah.
- 23:47You really watch the news.
- 23:48You really listen to the stories.
- 23:49You really make sure that you can understand.
- 23:52You're just listening to this stupid stuff.
- 23:55It's. It's very. Sad community.
- 23:57And I remember when I was up at East Khan doing a training,
- 24:00I think there was like 300 educators in the room.
- 24:04I mean, I always look at the ones that are sitting with their arms
- 24:06folded that they don't even want to be here.
- 24:08They start talking about bathrooms because I let's talk about it, you know,
- 24:14and I said, what's your thoughts to this woman?
- 24:17She looked pissed and she says, well, that's ridiculous.
- 24:21I don't want a man in in the ladies room.
- 24:23I don't want a man in the ladies room. So they're not men.
- 24:25They're women.
- 24:26They're women.
- 24:27Okay, I said, how about me?
- 24:30Yeah. Do you want me in your your bathroom?
- 24:32Because if you're if you're going to say that trans women
- 24:34can't use the women's, then I shouldn't be able to use the men's.
- 24:37And do you want me to
- 24:38walk into the bathroom and say, excuse me, man, scoot over.
- 24:40I got to wash my hands.
- 24:42And she did not even like.
- 24:44People don't realize that.
- 24:46People don't realize that.
- 24:47It's not, you know, listen,
- 24:50if you're in
- 24:51a my our audience, if you're in a bathroom
- 24:55and somebody walks in and you're questioning their gender,
- 24:58I can tell you that they are more afraid of being in that bathroom
- 25:01than you are them.
- 25:02And there's never that I know of.
- 25:05And I should do research before I say this, but I don't think there's ever
- 25:07been a trans person arrested in a bathroom for molesting anyone.
- 25:11Let's be absolutely clear, okay?
- 25:13We use the bathroom.
- 25:14You want to know why trans people use the bathroom?
- 25:16Because we have to pee.
- 25:18Okay. That's it, that's it.
- 25:20And you better just hope we wash our hands.
- 25:21I mean, isn't that the most important thing about going to the bathroom?
- 25:24No matter where you go, wash your hands.
- 25:27When Cameron first came out, I was terrified.
- 25:29Every time
- 25:30when he started using the male bathrooms, I would always send his brothers
- 25:34or his dad in there with him because I was so nervous.
- 25:37And now when he goes to the bathroom, I'm waiting for ever, Tony.
- 25:41And I'm like, he comes out and like, what takes you so long?
- 25:43He's like, mom, I have to wait for a stall.
- 25:46Yeah. One stall. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's different.
- 25:48Yeah.
- 25:49He's like, it takes, you know, all these guys are going in and out, in and out.
- 25:52And I'm like, where the heck is Cameron?
- 25:53Do you want to know where my first men's room was? Where?
- 25:56Grand Central station.
- 25:58Yeah.
- 25:59That's brave. Of you.
- 25:59Yeah. It was it was very brave.
- 26:01I was like, I'm doing it.
- 26:03It was so many people walking in and. I probably didn't. Even know.
- 26:05I got to tell you prior to that moment,
- 26:08anytime we went to New York, I had to hold it all day.
- 26:11Yeah, because I, like I told you,
- 26:13nobody was shocked when I said I was transitioning.
- 26:15I was really a butch lesbian, so I if I ever walked near a ladies room,
- 26:18they'd be like, this is the ladies room, you know?
- 26:20And one woman one time grabbed her kid and I was like, come on.
- 26:25So holding it in all day or not
- 26:27drinking or eating anything so I didn't have to use the bathroom.
- 26:30So I'll tell you, it was a freeing moment when I was able to use the bathroom
- 26:33whenever the hell I wanted to.
- 26:34And kids do that all the time.
- 26:37They hold it in all day because they're so afraid of using it.
- 26:40Tony, we could go on and talk.
- 26:41We could go on forever talking about bathrooms, but we won't.
- 26:45But listen, it was good catching up with you.
- 26:47You know, as always.
- 26:49And, I guess that's it.
- 26:51We'll see each other. In a few minutes.
- 26:53We'll see each other in a few minutes for our next guest.
- 26:55But you'll see us soon.
