Speaker 1: a long time, I did not think I had a voice,

Speaker 1: because you're talking about a country girl from a place

Speaker 1: called Leveland, South Carolina. I lived on the street that

Speaker 1: was one way in and one way out. Everybody on

Speaker 1: my street was either my first cousin or my second cousin.

Speaker 1: And I'm not gonna say we were the most well

Speaker 1: off people, but we were well out enough to not

Speaker 1: know that we were poor. If we were poor, how

Speaker 1: about that. I can say that I didn't have the

Speaker 1: greatest life, but I didn't have the worst life. I

Speaker 1: could say my mother provided, and even when she didn't provide,

Speaker 1: I didn't know she didn't provide because it was always

Speaker 1: a roof over my head and I always had food

Speaker 1: on my table, so I didn't know if it was

Speaker 1: But as I grew, I learned that a lot of

Speaker 1: times you were in a place where you don't have

Speaker 1: a voice, you don't have an outlet to share. For

Speaker 1: many years, I helped many things inside because I had

Speaker 1: no one to talk to. I had no one to
27:17
Speaker 1: release these things to, had no one to explain to

Speaker 1: me the different feelings, emotions, and different things that I
27:26
Speaker 1: was going through. You know, I lost my mom twelve
27:29
Speaker 1: days after my sixteenth birthday. You know, all I knew
27:34
Speaker 1: was to be strong, So I never really grieved. I
27:38
Speaker 1: never really knew that what that process was like. So
27:44
Speaker 1: when you go through these things, and you deal with
27:47
Speaker 1: these things, you don't know. So as you continue to
27:53
Speaker 1: grow and these things continue to pile up, they continue
27:56
Speaker 1: to build up, it begins to affect your mental health.

Speaker 1: If you don't know what mental health is. And then

Speaker 1: for a lot of us Brown people, and I'm just

Speaker 1: gonna talk about me in my upbringing, for a lot

Speaker 1: of us, we've always been told to pray about it.

Speaker 1: We've always been told to go slap some all on it. Well,

Speaker 1: it didn't work for me, y'all praying about it, slapping

Speaker 1: all on it, it didn't work. I still had those issues,

Speaker 1: Those issues still fester, those things still bothered me, those

Speaker 1: things were still underlining, those things were still going on.

Speaker 1: I've been in church all my life. My great grandfather

Speaker 1: was a pastor. I set up under so many I

Speaker 1: set up many, so many, I set up under so much,
