- 0:15Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota dot Com.
- 0:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 0:27Speaker 2: at Chelette Stadium. We're back to our regular noontime start,
- 0:31Speaker 2: but not for long. I've got a big week this week.
- 0:35Speaker 2: The Eagles are coming to town, so that's gonna be
- 0:39Speaker 2: really exciting. We're gonna have joint practices Tomorrow and Thursday
- 0:43Speaker 2: we'll be doing live shows. But today we can recap
- 0:48Speaker 2: everything we've seen since the last time we had a
- 0:50Speaker 2: show last Thursday. Yeah, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's Me,
- 0:54Speaker 2: it's Deuce, it's Matt and Na Booth and h Yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 4: A couple padded practice, a couple of twelve o'clock show.
- 1:01Speaker 4: I know, it feels like it's been a long time since.
- 1:04Speaker 5: It feels like it's comfortable.
- 1:07Speaker 4: In confends is what day it is. I'm losing track
- 1:09Speaker 4: because I just I've.
- 1:11Speaker 6: Had a handful of practices, but generally speaking, really only
- 1:14Speaker 6: two of significant. They had Saturday and Monday in pads.
- 1:19Speaker 6: Sunday and Tuesday were both walked throughs, and I thought
- 1:25Speaker 6: at times there was some interesting things, And I thought,
- 1:27Speaker 6: especially so with Drake May on Monday, I'm getting a
- 1:32Speaker 6: little like Verable losing track of the day is yesterday.
- 1:34Speaker 6: I thought it was a pretty sharp day for the offense,
- 1:36Speaker 6: the passing game in general. I know, I want to
- 1:39Speaker 6: get into this a little bit later in the show,
- 1:41Speaker 6: because not all members of the show were a lockstep
- 1:45Speaker 6: on the performance of the quarterbacks, So I do want
- 1:48Speaker 6: to get into that when when we have his attention.
- 1:52Speaker 6: But I thought yesterday was a really good day, punctuated
- 1:56Speaker 6: by a pretty impressive two minute drill at the end
- 1:58Speaker 6: of of the practice. So I thought they got a
- 2:00Speaker 6: lot of good work done yesterday, dialed it back today
- 2:02Speaker 6: with a walkthrough, and we're just grinding through.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah, Romeo Dobbs coming on. I mean, I think we
- 2:08Speaker 4: were all a little bit concerned early on, but now
- 2:10Speaker 4: with him and Brown, they're both stringing together some consistent practices.
- 2:14Speaker 4: The big play to A J. Brown yesterday that was
- 2:17Speaker 4: nice to see, I said, I kept saying, I mean,
- 2:19Speaker 4: I don't feel like Drake's like really lit it up.
- 2:21Speaker 4: For a whole practice. Yet it was the one practice
- 2:23Speaker 4: I missed that you guys, you know, had the reports
- 2:25Speaker 4: that I wish I was there to see it. I'll
- 2:27Speaker 4: take your word for it. But yesterday felt like a
- 2:30Speaker 4: good Drake day and you know, consistent, That's what That's
- 2:33Speaker 4: what stood out to me. Just it feels like a
- 2:35Speaker 4: lot of these practices he gets a little bit of
- 2:37Speaker 4: a slow start, or you know, maybe he has a
- 2:39Speaker 4: good run and then he has a slow finish. Like
- 2:42Speaker 4: feels like these two practices, including yesterday's and the one
- 2:44Speaker 4: I missed, were his best two days oh camp.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yesterday I was thrilled.
- 2:48Speaker 5: There we go.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I was thrilled back, thank god.
- 2:51Speaker 6: No, how much do you guys, how much do you
- 2:55Speaker 6: owe me? There's no way he was bringing that to
- 2:57Speaker 6: the air.
- 2:57Speaker 5: I knew it.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I knew it.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Concert on Saturday, Fred, weren't you?
- 3:02Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 3:03Speaker 5: Fred was some tough coaching in the quarterback training camp
- 3:06Speaker 5: and yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: No, listen, I think overall I'd love to see Drake
- 3:09Speaker 2: just get it out just the second earlier, just a
- 3:12Speaker 2: smidge earlier. Trust the receiver is going to be where
- 3:15Speaker 2: it's going to be supposed to be, and just get
- 3:17Speaker 2: it out. Of his hands just a second or two earlier.
- 3:20Speaker 2: But yesterday was like Patriots offense of the of old.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You know, ball wasn't on the ground guys, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 2: guys hitting guys in stride, you know, all levels, short, medium, long.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It really looked like a great offense. Now you didn't
- 3:37Speaker 2: have Gonzales out there. Carlton Davis is still probably not
- 3:42Speaker 2: one hundred percent, so you're not exactly going against Murderer's
- 3:47Speaker 2: row of cornerbacks. But it looked great. I think I
- 3:50Speaker 2: thought it was the offense's best dayah and I haven't
- 3:53Speaker 2: seen every product.
- 3:54Speaker 8: It was a good day yesterday. It was a good
- 3:56Speaker 8: offensive day, absolutely, yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 5: I think big picture, the most exciting part is that
- 4:00Speaker 5: AJ Brown and Romeo Dobbs are starting to look more
- 4:03Speaker 5: and more like the duo we thought when they brought
- 4:05Speaker 5: him in the offseason. That's maybe been a little bit
- 4:08Speaker 5: of a slow burn, Like I don't think that that's
- 4:10Speaker 5: happened overnight. That those two have been caught up to
- 4:13Speaker 5: speed and on the same page as the quarterback and
- 4:16Speaker 5: getting open and playing fast within the offense. We're starting
- 4:19Speaker 5: to see that every single day more and more. Small picture,
- 4:23Speaker 5: the two minute drill yesterday that Drake May had was flawless,
- 4:27Speaker 5: and I think that that's not always the case with him.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Like I think sometimes the two minute drills can be
- 4:31Speaker 5: a little bit clunky. The throw everybody's talking about is
- 4:35Speaker 5: the deep one that we posted to AJ Brown earlier
- 4:37Speaker 5: in the practice. The crossing route that he threw to
- 4:40Speaker 5: AJ Brown in the two minute drill was an even
- 4:42Speaker 5: better throw. It was rolling to his right and he
- 4:46Speaker 5: was running a crossing route right behind the second level,
- 4:49Speaker 5: in between the second and third levels of the defense,
- 4:51Speaker 5: and on the move, Drake May layered it right over
- 4:54Speaker 5: the second level and in front of the third level
- 4:56Speaker 5: into AJ Brown for about a thirty yard completion to
- 4:59Speaker 5: get that. Two minute drills started. Then the defense because
- 5:02Speaker 5: I think they were playing field goal, they started heating
- 5:04Speaker 5: Drake May up to try to get a turnover or
- 5:07Speaker 5: a negative play, and he had answers like he was
- 5:10Speaker 5: getting the ball out against the blitz quickly and hit
- 5:12Speaker 5: Remandre in the flat and a really nice play to
- 5:15Speaker 5: get them down at the chip shot field goal range.
- 5:17Speaker 5: That was that was nice, Like that was a really
- 5:21Speaker 5: smooth two minute drill that, like I said, we've seen
- 5:24Speaker 5: some clunky ones and that was not as good as
- 5:26Speaker 5: it gets.
- 5:27Speaker 2: And you mentioned Dobbs. He had a slow start to camp. Yep,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but he's really come on, you know, like catches everything.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's just I mean, that's what stood
- 5:36Speaker 4: out to me when he's coming. I thought he had
- 5:37Speaker 4: good hands, you know, not maybe not the biggest burner,
- 5:40Speaker 4: but a bigger guy. And you're just you're seeing him
- 5:42Speaker 4: catch him low. You're seeing them moss people seeing him today,
- 5:46Speaker 4: I practice on the jugs machine.
- 5:47Speaker 6: We keep saying that, like that slant to aj Brown
- 5:50Speaker 6: looks like it's there any time they wanted.
- 5:52Speaker 8: It's almost unstoppable.
- 5:53Speaker 6: I would say, you know, the eight to ten yard
- 5:55Speaker 6: out to Romeo Dobbs is quickly approaching that level of
- 6:00Speaker 6: being unstoppable.
- 6:01Speaker 8: Nave run it, you know.
- 6:02Speaker 6: I think Evan said this on our podcast yesterday, I
- 6:05Speaker 6: camp cast. You know, it's great to see him, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 6: jumping over defensive backs and winning, contesting catches in the
- 6:10Speaker 6: end zone and mossing guys.
- 6:12Speaker 8: That that's great that he has that ability.
- 6:13Speaker 6: But much more valuable to me is his ability to
- 6:17Speaker 6: just run a twelve yard out and be open, like
- 6:21Speaker 6: significantly open. We've seen so many outs where the defensive
- 6:25Speaker 6: back is right there, and Drake has to be precise
- 6:27Speaker 6: with the throw and it's off just a hair and
- 6:30Speaker 6: it's a dangerous throat to the outside like that. Those
- 6:33Speaker 6: have just been pitching catch with Romeo Dodds the last
- 6:36Speaker 6: I would say three four practices.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I mean between between Dobbs, A J. Brown, Hollins, Hunter, Henry.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I don't even throw Raritan in it. We've got some
- 6:44Speaker 2: size that at the receiving at the targets, and not
- 6:48Speaker 2: every team has cornerbacks and safeties that are six one,
- 6:51Speaker 2: six two. I'm wondering, is there a particular team in
- 6:54Speaker 2: our schedule that has a smaller secondary that going into
- 6:58Speaker 2: that game like the will be in our favor. I'm
- 7:01Speaker 2: a size sure.
- 7:02Speaker 5: We'll get into that. You know, we've talked a lot
- 7:04Speaker 5: about Drake liking to throw to bigger receivers, and he's
- 7:08Speaker 5: talked about it a little bit with his brothers, like
- 7:10Speaker 5: throwing with his brothers in the backyard and they're all
- 7:14Speaker 5: they're all six foot five, and so he's kind of
- 7:16Speaker 5: used to that size and throwing to guys with big
- 7:19Speaker 5: catch radiuses. And then you look at the way they
- 7:22Speaker 5: moved and they trade for a J Brown and signed
- 7:24Speaker 5: Romeo Dobbs and draft a six foot six tight end
- 7:27Speaker 5: and Eli Roaden, and clearly they want to make a
- 7:30Speaker 5: team full of power forwards and centers. Now, my one
- 7:33Speaker 5: concern with that was the jump balls. Like I think
- 7:35Speaker 5: a lot of the downfield stuff that we've seen in
- 7:37Speaker 5: practice have been fifty to fifty balls, and I would
- 7:39Speaker 5: prefer not to live that way down the field. But yesterday,
- 7:44Speaker 5: you know, they started to hit some of those down
- 7:45Speaker 5: the field where guys were getting open, and so that
- 7:47Speaker 5: that was encouraging. But there's no doubt that they want
- 7:49Speaker 5: to build a physical, contested catch type of roster at
- 7:55Speaker 5: the receiver positions, and I think that that's catering to
- 7:58Speaker 5: the quarterback more than maybe schedule.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Yeah, the emergence of those two guys too, just made
- 8:02Speaker 4: me think a whole lot less about the rest of
- 8:04Speaker 4: the depth chart. It's you look at the top three
- 8:07Speaker 4: Douglas and those two that's a that's a good offense.
- 8:10Speaker 4: And with Hunter, Henry and Ridan getting mixed in a
- 8:12Speaker 4: little bit the rest, I don't really I'm not really
- 8:14Speaker 4: too concerned.
- 8:15Speaker 6: He should have a really good passing game, and you know,
- 8:17Speaker 6: I think on Sunday we got a chance to talk
- 8:19Speaker 6: to the offensive coaches and Josh McDaniel spoke a little
- 8:23Speaker 6: bit about it. He was asked about the stuff that
- 8:24Speaker 6: Evan was just talking about, just the size of the guys,
- 8:27Speaker 6: and he and he started laughing. He goes, well, I
- 8:29Speaker 6: think Pop might take because he's the one guy that's different.
- 8:33Speaker 6: But I think this can be really valuable for Douglas
- 8:35Speaker 6: because of the space that he's going to get afforded.
- 8:39Speaker 6: I just think these guys are going to require a
- 8:41Speaker 6: lot of attention from secondaries.
- 8:44Speaker 8: I don't you know.
- 8:45Speaker 6: I think Kasha on Booty spoke yesterday like if people
- 8:49Speaker 6: want to one on one with aj Burn, they're gonna
- 8:51Speaker 6: lose ten times out of ten, you know, And that's
- 8:54Speaker 6: the kind of receiver you have now that again, Mike,
- 8:57Speaker 6: Evan and I.
- 8:57Speaker 8: Have been telling you that they're kind of lacked.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Really it's interesting, and how did I see it on
- 9:01Speaker 4: the field. It actually looks like it'll work.
- 9:03Speaker 5: So I do think it's like you can drow the
- 9:05Speaker 5: corner and the safety over the top they're.
- 9:08Speaker 6: Talking about like, I'm not even gonna gonna geek out,
- 9:11Speaker 6: like Evan, will you know and tell you all the
- 9:13Speaker 6: things that it can create for the running game with
- 9:15Speaker 6: lighter boxes and safety.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Put the fall back in the backfield, running back in
- 9:20Speaker 5: the dot.
- 9:21Speaker 8: I think Josh can have some fun with it.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Let's go, let's go it.
- 9:24Speaker 6: Like they open up these team periods, it was like
- 9:28Speaker 6: yesterday they had like they opened the first series was
- 9:30Speaker 6: all first down plays and you see, you know, the
- 9:33Speaker 6: first play it's like three receivers, you know, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 6: and then the next play it's like two tight ends
- 9:42Speaker 6: and Gilliam you know, so you're going with a power group.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Then the next play just makes me feel like next
- 9:48Speaker 5: play it was.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Like ten personnel, like you you know, they have no
- 9:51Speaker 6: tight end on the field with four wide receivers. And
- 9:54Speaker 6: it's just I think there's a lot of possibilities that
- 9:56Speaker 6: Josh can play with.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Exactly power to go with a J. Brown as the
- 10:00Speaker 5: loan receiver and then the two tight ends and the
- 10:02Speaker 5: full back. I mean, now you're talking my language. That's
- 10:05Speaker 5: my kind of party. Like you run the ball attention,
- 10:08Speaker 5: did a homework, You run the ball out of that
- 10:10Speaker 5: and you run it effectively to play action present you know,
- 10:13Speaker 5: the way that you're presenting to the defense. The play
- 10:16Speaker 5: action opportunities are going to just be unbelievable. I mean,
- 10:20Speaker 5: that's a really effective package. And I like goal line,
- 10:23Speaker 5: short yardage situations, close out games, like, I really feel
- 10:27Speaker 5: like that has a package opportunity to be really fun.
- 10:30Speaker 5: And they've used Hollins a little bit in there too,
- 10:32Speaker 5: and some of those looks. I mean, they can get big,
- 10:35Speaker 5: like they they can really get big and play bullyball
- 10:37Speaker 5: and run some people over.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I was the point I was about to make,
- 10:42Speaker 4: and yesterday that it was the one thing I was
- 10:43Speaker 4: just tracking. You know, what's the personnel? How are they
- 10:44Speaker 4: matching it on on defense? And I mean, like you said, Paul, not,
- 10:48Speaker 4: I'm not going to get into the specifics because I
- 10:50Speaker 4: don't think they want. Yeah, but they have so many
- 10:52Speaker 4: different things that you're going to have to prepare for.
- 10:54Speaker 4: You're going to have to prepare for a spread offense
- 10:56Speaker 4: with no tight ends. You're gonna have to prepare for
- 10:58Speaker 4: two backs, one pony package with running backs, a full back.
- 11:02Speaker 4: I mean, he's got so many different tools. But the
- 11:04Speaker 4: thing I found myself wondering is Seattle is a team
- 11:06Speaker 4: that wants to basically just stay in nickel, right, So
- 11:09Speaker 4: is this going to be effective? Like and especially with
- 11:12Speaker 4: you know, we talked about Emon Worri. Maybe he's going
- 11:13Speaker 4: to be ready to go for week one. You know,
- 11:16Speaker 4: do you like, how do you do this with is
- 11:18Speaker 4: like strategically we're running through all these different personnel. Is
- 11:22Speaker 4: that going to be effective if Seattle's just going to say, okay,
- 11:25Speaker 4: do all your changing, We're just gonna stay in this group.
- 11:27Speaker 4: You know, I wonder what the game plan is. I
- 11:29Speaker 4: think in the perfect world, you want to get them
- 11:30Speaker 4: out of Nickel and have them play bass and so
- 11:32Speaker 4: you can get gilling him on the field and try
- 11:34Speaker 4: to run on them. But at the same time, are
- 11:36Speaker 4: they just gonna sit there watching you change all this
- 11:37Speaker 4: personnel going like that's great, We're just gonna stay.
- 11:39Speaker 6: And maybe maybe his injury, maybe even worry is you know, status,
- 11:43Speaker 6: even if he's ready to play, maybe his status will
- 11:46Speaker 6: not allow every what they want to do.
- 11:48Speaker 5: You know, Yeah, you got to you gotta be able
- 11:51Speaker 5: to run the ball on Seattle, and it's hard, Like
- 11:53Speaker 5: they have great run defenders and they play a man
- 11:56Speaker 5: short in the box and they figure it out with
- 11:58Speaker 5: the penetrations and the stunts that they run upfront and
- 12:00Speaker 5: all that kind of stuff. But like to answer your question, Duse,
- 12:03Speaker 5: I don't think that it's hockey lines of like we're
- 12:06Speaker 5: gonna change all. I think that they want to go
- 12:07Speaker 5: big against Seattle. And I think if you're gonna play
- 12:10Speaker 5: a nickel and even though it's not traditional nickel with Seattle,
- 12:12Speaker 5: they play a lot of three safety nickel, if you're
- 12:14Speaker 5: gonna play nickel, like we're gonna put the full back
- 12:17Speaker 5: on the field, You're going to have your two high
- 12:19Speaker 5: safety shells and all your defensive backs and all your
- 12:21Speaker 5: fancy pressures and all that kind of stuff, and we're
- 12:24Speaker 5: just gonna stay out a third and long. And I
- 12:26Speaker 5: think that top of the Drake may that was the
- 12:28Speaker 5: biggest thing about the Super Bowl that he keeps going
- 12:30Speaker 5: back on is that we were in third and ten
- 12:32Speaker 5: the entire game. And when you're in third and ten
- 12:34Speaker 5: against a defense like that and a coach like that,
- 12:37Speaker 5: he's just sending pressure at you from all different places
- 12:40Speaker 5: and it becomes hard to diagnose, and that's when you
- 12:42Speaker 5: get the negative plays. I think they want to be
- 12:44Speaker 5: better on first down this time around against Seattle, and
- 12:47Speaker 5: I think they think going with a heavier offense and
- 12:51Speaker 5: heavier personnel will allow them to maybe run the ball
- 12:54Speaker 5: more effectively against Seattle's nickel. Now, Seattle stopped the run
- 12:58Speaker 5: really well last year out of that look, So I
- 13:00Speaker 5: don't know if it'll work, but you can see the
- 13:03Speaker 5: method to it. I really feel like that was what
- 13:06Speaker 5: was missing from their offense last year, was like truly
- 13:09Speaker 5: being able to run the ball effectively and being able
- 13:13Speaker 5: to play some bully ball. You know, they get into
- 13:15Speaker 5: the offense at last year it's three wide receivers eighty
- 13:18Speaker 5: five percent of the time. Eighty percent of the time.
- 13:20Speaker 5: It's not a very effective, efficient running game. So I
- 13:24Speaker 5: think that they're trying to avoid that all over again
- 13:26Speaker 5: this season.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Yeah, i'd say the other thing too. I mean talk
- 13:29Speaker 4: a lot about Drake year two in this system, becoming
- 13:32Speaker 4: you know, the pre snap mastermind and getting his team
- 13:35Speaker 4: into the right position. I think that's been a work
- 13:37Speaker 4: in progress. I don't think that that's been a stunning
- 13:41Speaker 4: success here so far. And it just made me pump
- 13:43Speaker 4: the brakes a little bit on remembering Bill Belichick saying
- 13:46Speaker 4: it really wasn't until two thousand and three where he
- 13:49Speaker 4: really felt like Brady settled in and really was at
- 13:51Speaker 4: full control of the offense. So you know, maybe my
- 13:53Speaker 4: expectations were a little high for Drake. I mean, I
- 13:55Speaker 4: think they need to be I think he needs to
- 13:57Speaker 4: be better. But there's been a few instances throughout training
- 14:00Speaker 4: camp consistently where it's like here they come and it
- 14:03Speaker 4: didn't seem like they had answers for it. Yesterday was
- 14:05Speaker 4: a good example where you know, the ball Nober said
- 14:08Speaker 4: they didn't get there, but it looked close. With the
- 14:09Speaker 4: Remandre dump off, they brought a you know, a zero
- 14:12Speaker 4: blitz and he got it off to Romondre Quick and
- 14:13Speaker 4: it was a good game.
- 14:14Speaker 6: It was a great play. But but but Mike and
- 14:16Speaker 6: I del Pettis came right up the middle and he
- 14:19Speaker 6: just kind of stopped once he got into sort of
- 14:22Speaker 6: the pocket. And I do wonder was that because they
- 14:25Speaker 6: had him snuffed out and they don't want to they
- 14:27Speaker 6: want to make sure they're not, you know, pushing guys
- 14:29Speaker 6: back into Drake. There was a play earlier in the
- 14:32Speaker 6: one of the sets. I think it was like the
- 14:34Speaker 6: very last set. I think it might have been third
- 14:35Speaker 6: down plays, but they just ran the ball and he
- 14:38Speaker 6: kind of got stepped on, and you know, I just
- 14:40Speaker 6: don't want anybody to around the quarterback. You've seen these
- 14:42Speaker 6: clips and people around the league no piles, you know,
- 14:44Speaker 6: so you just wonder did they have that snuffed out
- 14:48Speaker 6: or did del Pettis wisely choose to pull back and
- 14:52Speaker 6: not create sort of congestion.
- 14:55Speaker 4: It's what I'm going to be looking for as we
- 14:56Speaker 4: get into the season is how often do we see
- 14:58Speaker 4: Drake go to the line and go you know Brady
- 15:00Speaker 4: used to do and be like who WHOA He pulls back,
- 15:04Speaker 4: He motions these guys out there all of a sudden,
- 15:06Speaker 4: they've they've gone from twenty one personnel to a spread offense.
- 15:09Speaker 4: And he's going to run host juke because he knows
- 15:11Speaker 4: that you know, like that kind of stuff. You know,
- 15:13Speaker 4: that was fore the coverage dictor right right, you know
- 15:19Speaker 4: what I'm talking about.
- 15:20Speaker 8: You know, Jason the other day they started cracking up.
- 15:23Speaker 5: It's hard for us.
- 15:24Speaker 4: To tell exactly when he's you know, having to be
- 15:26Speaker 4: in his bag, and you know, I just think that,
- 15:29Speaker 4: to me is the biggest step for this offense is
- 15:31Speaker 4: if he fully becomes in control of that and just
- 15:34Speaker 4: has that calm presence pre snap to understand. You know,
- 15:38Speaker 4: sometimes I feel like he gets and I think this
- 15:40Speaker 4: was kind of the super Bowl he gets rolling a
- 15:42Speaker 4: little bit and he gets caught up instead of being patient,
- 15:45Speaker 4: calm each snap, identifying what they're doing and trying to counter.
- 15:48Speaker 2: No, we might get a little glimpse of that tomorrow
- 15:50Speaker 2: and Thursday. Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Well, I thought Vrabel's comment was interesting too, of you
- 15:55Speaker 4: know yesterday saying that, you know, colesdon't do anything in
- 15:57Speaker 4: the game, but in the joint practice they were, they
- 15:58Speaker 4: were throwing some stuff at him. So I think it's
- 16:00Speaker 4: you know, just on us to watch that a little closer, because,
- 16:04Speaker 4: like you said, Fred, that'll be opportunities for him tomorrow, moving.
- 16:06Speaker 2: To the other side of the ball. Good to see
- 16:07Speaker 2: Christian Barmore back in the mix yesterday.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Working his way back in.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Yeah, he did some of the one on one stuff,
- 16:14Speaker 6: the individual drills, position drills.
- 16:16Speaker 8: Still no team for him.
- 16:17Speaker 2: He was out there for team.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Yeah, he had like one or two snaps.
- 16:20Speaker 8: Oh I missed him. I didn't see him.
- 16:21Speaker 5: It was very.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Sparingly, but yeah, it was only for a few but
- 16:24Speaker 2: he came out there.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Just I mean, at this point of the season, he's around.
- 16:28Speaker 4: He's not going to be gone. He'll probably be ready
- 16:29Speaker 4: for a week one. That's all I really care.
- 16:31Speaker 5: It does make it a little hard to the defense though,
- 16:34Speaker 5: you know, the joint practice you're missing Davis, Gonzalez and Barmore.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Now you're missing Barmore and Gonzalez and Davis is kind
- 16:42Speaker 5: of maybe a little bit behind and trying to get
- 16:44Speaker 5: back into shape and all that kind of stuff. So
- 16:46Speaker 5: I don't think we've seen the full.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Even though, like Charles Woods has been banged up a
- 16:51Speaker 6: little bit, just coming back off of something that caused
- 16:53Speaker 6: him miss a couple of days. Yeah, and then he
- 16:55Speaker 6: was in a red jersey for a day, So yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 6: there's you know that the defense hasn't been at full strength.
- 17:01Speaker 6: I would say that for the most part, the defense
- 17:03Speaker 6: has been better than the offense throughout camp.
- 17:05Speaker 8: But I think they'll you know, you're starting to see a.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Little bit of that turn, and I think it's probably
- 17:10Speaker 6: has at least something to do with personnel.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think my small sea concern has pivoted
- 17:15Speaker 5: to the pass rush now versus it was with Romeo
- 17:18Speaker 5: Dobbs and the new receivers. I Rabel mentioned it at
- 17:22Speaker 5: about the joint practice that you know, he says they
- 17:24Speaker 5: don't affect the quarterback enough. You know, they didn't put
- 17:26Speaker 5: enough pressure on Daniel Jones and that joint practice, and
- 17:30Speaker 5: I just they don't have a lot of one on
- 17:33Speaker 5: one winners up front, especially on the edge. So they're
- 17:35Speaker 5: gonna have to do it with scheme and they're going
- 17:37Speaker 5: to have to get creative. And you know, if the
- 17:40Speaker 5: corner of Gonzales isn't out there, then you don't have
- 17:43Speaker 5: the corners to send the house, you know, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 5: you don't have the corners to play that kind of right,
- 17:49Speaker 5: So you have to have you know, that's a big
- 17:52Speaker 5: part of it. And I do want to see against
- 17:54Speaker 5: the Eagles. I think the pockets for the Patriots offensive
- 17:57Speaker 5: line have actually been pretty good for most the camp.
- 18:01Speaker 5: And how much of that is the offensive line has
- 18:04Speaker 5: improved a lot, and how much of that is that
- 18:06Speaker 5: the pass rush ain is so good? Right, And you
- 18:08Speaker 5: know that will find out over the course of time.
- 18:10Speaker 5: But you know, with the blitzes and stuff that they've
- 18:12Speaker 5: been running, I wonder if they are pivoting their their
- 18:16Speaker 5: way to solve those problems a little bit. And we
- 18:19Speaker 5: were talking about this a little bit off offline. Duce
- 18:21Speaker 5: like to expect any quarterback to be Brady to come
- 18:25Speaker 5: to the line of scrimmage and sniff out a pressure
- 18:28Speaker 5: by the defense and know exactly how to move his
- 18:31Speaker 5: pieces around to get the pressure blocked and all this.
- 18:35Speaker 5: I wonder if maybe they are trying to simplify some
- 18:37Speaker 5: of that type of stuff for May and just because
- 18:40Speaker 5: he's kind of just a guy that wants to just play,
- 18:42Speaker 5: you know, and to come to the line of scrimmage
- 18:44Speaker 5: and have all these responsibilities on the quarterback. I feel
- 18:48Speaker 5: like they might be throwing hot a little bit more
- 18:49Speaker 5: this year versus like, well, they're gonna try to block it.
- 18:52Speaker 5: So like the Remandre play yesterday, we know they're coming,
- 18:56Speaker 5: but we're just gonna sneak the running back out of
- 18:58Speaker 5: the backfield behind the blitz and and just dump it
- 19:00Speaker 5: off to the back instead of you go over here,
- 19:03Speaker 5: and you go over there, and you've got this guy
- 19:05Speaker 5: and you're blocking that guy, and you know, it becomes
- 19:08Speaker 5: a whole, you know sort of thing at pre snap
- 19:10Speaker 5: where you're just deciding everything. But the pass rush, I
- 19:13Speaker 5: think is one thing that we've all kind of had
- 19:15Speaker 5: our turn being concerned about. And you know, I don't
- 19:18Speaker 5: know if there's we got to see more of that.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Are we allowed to report on that little kind of
- 19:24Speaker 2: wrinkle that Rable threw into practice yesterday.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Well, we did it in the in the in the
- 19:28Speaker 4: camp cast I.
- 19:29Speaker 6: Scheme, Like, I don't say that wasn't wasn't it was
- 19:32Speaker 6: diff competitive, you know, it was, so describe what you saw.
- 19:36Speaker 4: So it began, as I guess, within the structure of
- 19:39Speaker 4: a special teams drill with you know, gunners and vices
- 19:41Speaker 4: going against each other, and specifically you know, usually this
- 19:44Speaker 4: drill happens on the side and everybody's kind of doing
- 19:46Speaker 4: other things. This was where this drill took center stage
- 19:49Speaker 4: for the whole team and you had specifically players who
- 19:52Speaker 4: are I would call depth players competing for roles right now,
- 19:55Speaker 4: Like you know, let's put them out there in front
- 19:57Speaker 4: of the whole team and put that on on stage
- 20:00Speaker 4: and let them go. And so you saw, you know,
- 20:02Speaker 4: guys like Akis and you know, Tanner.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Arcandes and just to set the scene, the whole team
- 20:08Speaker 2: is behind the play on the field. They're not on
- 20:09Speaker 2: the sideline. Defense isn't separated from offense. They're all together
- 20:14Speaker 2: behind the play.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so you'll just you know, you'd see one gunner
- 20:17Speaker 4: line up inside and you'd have two vice guys over
- 20:19Speaker 4: him and he would try to get off those blocks
- 20:22Speaker 4: and split them and get up field. And I think
- 20:23Speaker 4: they had two cones too, so it seemed like, you know,
- 20:25Speaker 4: they're trying to stay up the middle to get up
- 20:28Speaker 4: and cover the punt. But just an overall really competitive
- 20:32Speaker 4: drill that I thought it was almost reminded me of some
- 20:35Speaker 4: of the field goal stuff that they've done at times
- 20:36Speaker 4: where they gather everybody around to try to psych them
- 20:38Speaker 4: out a little bit. It felt like that kind of pressure.
- 20:41Speaker 2: But didn't it morphine to beyond special teams.
- 20:43Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 20:44Speaker 5: Yeah, So I would call it a deconstructed eleven on eleven,
- 20:47Speaker 5: like you know how, and like cooking, like you have
- 20:50Speaker 5: a deconstructed dish or it's the dish, but it's all
- 20:52Speaker 5: in a million different parts. So like they put the
- 20:55Speaker 5: eleven guys out there, but instead of running the drill
- 20:59Speaker 5: in unison. At first, it started the wide receiver in
- 21:02Speaker 5: the corner went, then the tight end and the and
- 21:04Speaker 5: the edge rusher went, then the tackle and the edge
- 21:07Speaker 5: rusher went, then the linebacker and the running back went,
- 21:09Speaker 5: and then the tight end went against a linebacker, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 5: running a route, and it was like like you were
- 21:14Speaker 5: running a team drill, but each guy took their turn
- 21:17Speaker 5: instead of it being run together, and so it was
- 21:20Speaker 5: kind of like a way to spotlight each individual player
- 21:23Speaker 5: right as it went along. And it was it was
- 21:26Speaker 5: pretty cool. I'd never seen anything like that.
- 21:28Speaker 6: And I think it added a lot of energy yes
- 21:30Speaker 6: to the time and you know, you know, and talking
- 21:32Speaker 6: to some of the guys. Corey Durton talked about it afterwards,
- 21:34Speaker 6: and you know, he did say, it's just like and
- 21:36Speaker 6: I think it's one of those things. It was, you know,
- 21:38Speaker 6: date seventeen, right, they were in pads. I think for
- 21:41Speaker 6: the tenth time yesterday, it can be a little bit
- 21:46Speaker 6: of all right, you know, we've done this enough. There's
- 21:48Speaker 6: like a monotonous, you know, element to what's going on.
- 21:51Speaker 6: And I think Mike might have recognized that a little
- 21:53Speaker 6: bit and threw a wrinkle in and I think it
- 21:56Speaker 6: did pick people up. And then after that is when
- 21:59Speaker 6: they got into they had a quick seven on seven
- 22:02Speaker 6: and then they did like three full periods of eleven
- 22:04Speaker 6: on the level. It was like first down work, third
- 22:06Speaker 6: down work, and then the like the two minute drill.
- 22:08Speaker 6: So it was there was a lot of stuff that
- 22:11Speaker 6: happened after that, and I think that kind of raised everybody.
- 22:13Speaker 8: Yeah, Durton said.
- 22:14Speaker 6: It was great, like great opportunities for us young guys
- 22:17Speaker 6: to get out there and in the spotlight with the
- 22:19Speaker 6: whole team watching, and it added some juice.
- 22:22Speaker 8: Yeah, it was fun to watch.
- 22:23Speaker 2: The team became audience and they cheered.
- 22:25Speaker 6: And yet strongly to like like Caleb Lomu did a
- 22:30Speaker 6: nice job against Dakas and the offense was really whooping
- 22:33Speaker 6: it up. Then the defense wins one I think it
- 22:35Speaker 6: was Riley Wilson really got the better of land Larisson
- 22:40Speaker 6: on a blitz and then the defense is going crazy.
- 22:43Speaker 6: So I do think it added something, added some stakes
- 22:46Speaker 6: to it.
- 22:46Speaker 2: It was almost like a rap battle. Matt Morell would
- 22:49Speaker 2: like that, you know. Yeah, like two guys to game
- 22:52Speaker 2: and everyone's gathered around and they're cheered, you know, but
- 22:55Speaker 2: you've been like.
- 22:55Speaker 6: If you've been to even more of these camps than
- 22:57Speaker 6: I have, do you ever remember seeing that?
- 22:58Speaker 2: No.
- 22:59Speaker 6: The only thing I recall that I.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Was similar as they do it at the Senior Bowl.
- 23:03Speaker 5: At the end of the practice. They pulled the whole
- 23:06Speaker 5: team in the middle of the field and they do
- 23:08Speaker 5: a wide receiver, corner, tight end, safety, pass rusher tackle
- 23:12Speaker 5: and usually it's like guys projected to go in like
- 23:15Speaker 5: the first two rounds, Like, yeah, the real like highly
- 23:20Speaker 5: rated guys that are at the practice. I remember a
- 23:23Speaker 5: couple of years ago, I want, I think I have
- 23:24Speaker 5: it right. I think it was Quinnon Mitchell and Roman
- 23:27Speaker 5: Wilson and it was like two guys that were just
- 23:29Speaker 5: kind of the players of practice and two you know,
- 23:32Speaker 5: players projected to go high. The whole team comes into
- 23:35Speaker 5: the middle of the field and it is it's like
- 23:36Speaker 5: a rap battle. It's like you your guy versus our
- 23:39Speaker 5: guy type of thing, but not in a not in
- 23:42Speaker 5: a training camp practice. Like that's the only other time
- 23:45Speaker 5: I can think.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Of it that happened to me. In high school. Oh,
- 23:47Speaker 2: we were a rap battle and kind of. So I
- 23:50Speaker 2: walked onto my high school team because I played soccer
- 23:52Speaker 2: my first two years.
- 23:53Speaker 6: And you didn't get a scholarship if you had a walk.
- 23:55Speaker 2: I was walk on in high school, and uh and
- 23:58Speaker 2: and so Billy Waylee and you know, I was going
- 24:01Speaker 2: to be a running back and he was like, you
- 24:03Speaker 2: can't play, blah blah blah. So after practice they set
- 24:07Speaker 2: up pylons, they gave me the ball and I had
- 24:09Speaker 2: to go run by him five times. And everyone gathered
- 24:12Speaker 2: around and no, no problem.
- 24:16Speaker 5: All five times.
- 24:17Speaker 2: It got to the point where in time it was
- 24:20Speaker 2: just like he was he was just so demoralized. I
- 24:23Speaker 2: could do whatever I want.
- 24:24Speaker 4: What was your Were you going around him? Were you
- 24:26Speaker 4: jum out?
- 24:27Speaker 2: I could do whatever I wanted as long as it
- 24:29Speaker 2: was as long as they had the ball in my
- 24:31Speaker 2: hand and I was between the pylons. So the first
- 24:34Speaker 2: time I tried to go around him, he got a
- 24:37Speaker 2: hold of me, but I got through by the then
- 24:39Speaker 2: I try to power move once that work and then
- 24:43Speaker 2: and then it was just like, Okay, I got this.
- 24:47Speaker 5: I got They do that thrill almost every practice where
- 24:51Speaker 5: it's you know, one defensive player one offensive player. They
- 24:54Speaker 5: have the cone, so you have to stay within like
- 24:56Speaker 5: a ten yard five yard box and it's just one
- 25:00Speaker 5: on one and usually they don't tackle to the ground.
- 25:02Speaker 5: It's just like angles and like taking the right set
- 25:05Speaker 5: up into the tackle on the hip hop. Yeah, but
- 25:08Speaker 5: I mean last year, like when we're out at practice
- 25:10Speaker 5: during the regular season, that's the only drill we ever
- 25:13Speaker 5: get to watch usually, and it's like every day they
- 25:16Speaker 5: do it like that drill, you know, pursue drill. So
- 25:19Speaker 5: it's pretty so he.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Was so demoralized Matt Morrell after he became a marine,
- 25:25Speaker 2: so he had enough. I pushed him into the Marines.
- 25:28Speaker 4: A good thing. You didn't have to do it.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I don't even know what to say about that. You
- 25:30Speaker 3: probably ruined that guy's like.
- 25:32Speaker 4: He's not tking that part of Matt's less. That's like
- 25:40Speaker 4: he's got something so good to say, and he's got
- 25:42Speaker 4: a big smile, and you don't know what.
- 25:43Speaker 3: You probably ruined that guy's life.
- 25:47Speaker 2: He's really growing in that beard though, big big beer.
- 25:51Speaker 5: It really kind of like it. She doesn't like it.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Fan.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Did you ever see Matt's like to hear from Mats
- 25:57Speaker 4: like Matt's picture on.
- 26:01Speaker 3: The rest of the people can hear me? Just you
- 26:02Speaker 3: guys in there?
- 26:02Speaker 7: Ki?
- 26:03Speaker 3: Okay, so you probably ruined that guy's like making them
- 26:05Speaker 3: joined the Marines.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Ah, I think I think it was all good.
- 26:10Speaker 7: Okay.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Also, the beer's going away this week.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah, So anyway to wrap it up, that was a
- 26:14Speaker 2: cool thing to watch. I agree, I've never seen it
- 26:16Speaker 2: before and over thirty years, at least at this level.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Maybe they do it in college a lot, I don't know.
- 26:21Speaker 2: And you know, as Evin said, he saw something similar
- 26:25Speaker 2: at some of the All Star Games.
- 26:27Speaker 4: I think we all kind of felt the same way,
- 26:29Speaker 4: where you're getting to practice seventeen and you're seeing some
- 26:32Speaker 4: of the same plays and you're seeing, you know, some
- 26:34Speaker 4: of the now they're starting to counter off of those plays,
- 26:35Speaker 4: but everybody, including those watching it or it's kind of
- 26:38Speaker 4: like doldrums a little bit. That felt like it broke
- 26:41Speaker 4: it up a little bit, and then you had pretty
- 26:42Speaker 4: competitive end to the practice.
- 26:44Speaker 2: We did have a transaction yesterday that we should talk about. Yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 2: kind of tells you where Ben Brown is.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, grate Van Rotten Rotin Roten.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I'm interested to see if why is he available? He
- 26:56Speaker 2: was a starter last so.
- 26:57Speaker 5: He's an eleven year veteran and my guess is that
- 26:59Speaker 5: he's had options but doesn't want to do training camp,
- 27:02Speaker 5: so headed around and Keidan Allen did the same thing
- 27:06Speaker 5: in Indianapolis.
- 27:07Speaker 2: But why was he available?
- 27:09Speaker 5: Why was he available? Well, I don't know if he
- 27:12Speaker 5: was available, Like I think he probably had options and
- 27:15Speaker 5: just waited.
- 27:15Speaker 2: The Okay, so you think he had offers and he
- 27:17Speaker 2: was just kind of rolling him over. Why do you
- 27:20Speaker 2: think he took ours?
- 27:22Speaker 4: It's a good team.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Well, it's a good question. Because there's not an immediate
- 27:26Speaker 5: hole in terms of starting. But you know, he's been
- 27:31Speaker 5: a starter last year, two years really for the Giants,
- 27:33Speaker 5: that started every game for the Giants last year at
- 27:36Speaker 5: right guard. He's played mostly guard in the NFL. He
- 27:39Speaker 5: did play center in the CFL, so he has played
- 27:42Speaker 5: a little bit of center as well. But he's considered
- 27:45Speaker 5: to be functional, you know, serviceable player, you know, not
- 27:49Speaker 5: not a star or anything like that, obviously, but somebody
- 27:53Speaker 5: that can be a lot reliable backup. Now. I haven't
- 27:57Speaker 5: seen them play a ton of center in the NFL,
- 27:59Speaker 5: so Ben Brown plays the center and guard. So see
- 28:03Speaker 5: if you know, when they get him into practice, if
- 28:04Speaker 5: he's snapping and things like that. But they definitely needed
- 28:08Speaker 5: if they weren't going to kick Lomu inside and try
- 28:11Speaker 5: that out at all, they needed somebody that was going
- 28:13Speaker 5: to be a service Ben.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Brown was your super sub inside.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and even here I thought it was having kind
- 28:19Speaker 5: of an up and down camp.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:21Speaker 5: So I think that this is a little bit of bolt.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I think it's a little bit of a push for
- 28:25Speaker 5: Ben Brown once he does get back, and I think
- 28:27Speaker 5: it's also so that they can keep Lomu attack.
- 28:30Speaker 6: And I do agree with you about the center element
- 28:33Speaker 6: of it, because I think the value of Brown is,
- 28:35Speaker 6: you know, he can play center, and I'm not sure
- 28:38Speaker 6: that you know, like James Hudson's been playing a lot
- 28:40Speaker 6: of guard, and I think they could probably get by
- 28:42Speaker 6: with him as a reserve guard, although I don't think
- 28:44Speaker 6: he played all that well against the Colts.
- 28:46Speaker 5: I would say, I don't know about.
- 28:47Speaker 6: That, but you know, he's never played center, so you
- 28:51Speaker 6: do need someone to be able to be the center
- 28:54Speaker 6: in case something happens to Jared Wilson and if Brown,
- 28:57Speaker 6: you know, and I would say the way that my
- 29:00Speaker 6: sounded on Mike Rabel sounded on Saturday, I wouldn't expect
- 29:04Speaker 6: to see Ben Brown before the preseason's over, So there's
- 29:08Speaker 6: probably an element of necessity. I mean that said, like
- 29:14Speaker 6: I'm with Mike, Mike and I talk about this, I'm like,
- 29:16Speaker 6: you know, just think about how far you've progressed where
- 29:19Speaker 6: you know, your lack of depth, you know, at the
- 29:24Speaker 6: guard position is like suddenly becoming an area of national concern,
- 29:27Speaker 6: like you would have thought that they they signed like
- 29:31Speaker 6: John Hannah yesterday. The way that people were reacting on Twitter,
- 29:34Speaker 6: I think was reaction. I mean I'm like, is this.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Really I thought he was being sarcastic.
- 29:40Speaker 6: No, I don't know he was, I think and I
- 29:43Speaker 6: don't think he was alone among the media corps. And again,
- 29:46Speaker 6: I recognize everything that we're talking about, I recognize as
- 29:49Speaker 6: being valid, Like Ben Brown was a valuable guy because
- 29:53Speaker 6: he can back up those three spots on the inside,
- 29:55Speaker 6: and you lost him, someone else will.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Do it, Like it's if someone else will do.
- 30:03Speaker 9: Well.
- 30:03Speaker 5: I think the one thing that is, you know, it's
- 30:06Speaker 5: my big deal is that Veritucker has an extensive injury history.
- 30:10Speaker 5: So ver Tucker gets hurt.
- 30:11Speaker 6: And do you feel like any better if he goes
- 30:15Speaker 6: if he gets hurt? Not?
- 30:16Speaker 5: Like, I don't I feel better about Van Roten than
- 30:19Speaker 5: James Hudson or Andrew.
- 30:21Speaker 6: Or okay now Andrews Makaie Butler. I feel better with
- 30:26Speaker 6: the NFL guys.
- 30:27Speaker 5: Like I'm not trying to better.
- 30:28Speaker 8: Than Hudson, doesn't matter.
- 30:31Speaker 5: I like Van Hudson was playing. Hudson was playing against
- 30:36Speaker 5: backups in the preseason game on Thursday night and was
- 30:38Speaker 5: getting torn.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Road is the starter in this yeah, just just not
- 30:45Speaker 2: a good one.
- 30:46Speaker 4: So last year was is he a starter? Did he
- 30:49Speaker 4: start game?
- 30:49Speaker 2: He's a tackle is the different way, so then, but
- 30:53Speaker 2: he's not even I would rather not do that.
- 30:57Speaker 5: But I think the biggest question mark is the biggest
- 31:01Speaker 5: question mark is is center? You know backup center that
- 31:05Speaker 5: I would agree with.
- 31:06Speaker 6: You have to have someone beyond Jacob Ritzzi. If something
- 31:09Speaker 6: were to happen, I would expect that ven Ruin is
- 31:12Speaker 6: going to be.
- 31:12Speaker 2: So the real reason why he chose the Patriots is
- 31:15Speaker 2: the new facility, and Brandon and Main writes in I
- 31:19Speaker 2: watched the YouTube video introducing the new facility. Obviously, it
- 31:23Speaker 2: looks incredible. It should be a huge improvement from what existed.
- 31:27Speaker 2: My question is do each of you feel that having
- 31:30Speaker 2: a state of the art facility, whether for the Patriots
- 31:33Speaker 2: or any team, provides any level of competitive advantage? Of
- 31:36Speaker 2: so how and of how much in a seventeen game season.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I would think that any edge you can get as
- 31:41Speaker 2: important and of having a top notch facility is worth
- 31:44Speaker 2: one win over the season because of the improvement is
- 31:47Speaker 2: an incredible advantage. I know that it may not be
- 31:50Speaker 2: as quantifiable as being worth one extra win, but I
- 31:53Speaker 2: think you can follow what I'm getting at. I appreciate
- 31:55Speaker 2: your thoughts. I think it does make a difference. This
- 31:58Speaker 2: is where these guys spend like more time than anywhere
- 32:02Speaker 2: else during the football season. And if you can make
- 32:06Speaker 2: it as meeting their needs as much as you can,
- 32:10Speaker 2: I think that's an advantage. I really do. Does it
- 32:14Speaker 2: equal wins maybe, but it really is just for the
- 32:20Speaker 2: comfort of the player, meeting their needs in terms of training,
- 32:24Speaker 2: you know, food, all that stuff. Having a facility like
- 32:29Speaker 2: that is something that was we needed for a while here.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean just the weight room alone is such
- 32:35Speaker 5: a stark improvement from what they had. But I like windows.
- 32:41Speaker 5: It's bright and they have windows and they have exposure
- 32:44Speaker 5: to the outside and they're not in like a you know,
- 32:47Speaker 5: basement of you know, like, so I just think that
- 32:51Speaker 5: that's going to be I don't know if it's quantifiable,
- 32:53Speaker 5: Like I don't know if I would say they're going
- 32:54Speaker 5: to win games because.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Of it or not.
- 32:56Speaker 5: It was needed in it's an improvement.
- 32:59Speaker 6: I think it's a good selling point to like a
- 33:01Speaker 6: potential free agent, like you should have a facility like
- 33:03Speaker 6: everybody else. Yeah, I don't necessarily think it translates to
- 33:06Speaker 6: wins and loss.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Now, it's just so dramatic. I mean, you took the
- 33:09Speaker 4: words out of my mouth have. I mean looking at
- 33:10Speaker 4: the old kitchen that they used to have, which no windows,
- 33:13Speaker 4: to this one now, which is bright and open and welcoming.
- 33:17Speaker 4: So I mean, it's it's probably a psychological element to it,
- 33:20Speaker 4: but it's hard to quantify. But I think the players
- 33:22Speaker 4: are just gonna enjoy coming into work, parking under the sucker,
- 33:25Speaker 4: you know, get walking right in. It's it's very conveniently
- 33:28Speaker 4: laid out.
- 33:29Speaker 5: I'd say.
- 33:29Speaker 4: The only difference to me that kind of stood out
- 33:31Speaker 4: is I finally went on my first tour last week
- 33:32Speaker 4: when they opened. It was just how spread out everything is.
- 33:36Speaker 4: It's very big, you know, And I only went through
- 33:38Speaker 4: the other locker room maybe twice while I was here,
- 33:40Speaker 4: but I was always taken by it just felt so
- 33:43Speaker 4: condensed and everything is right here. So I don't know
- 33:45Speaker 4: if that's a good or bad thing. But you know,
- 33:47Speaker 4: this one, it seems like they have room to grow,
- 33:50Speaker 4: but they have everything they need at their fingers.
- 33:51Speaker 2: I mean, the hallways are really wide because there's big
- 33:55Speaker 2: guys traveling in groups. Just yesterday, I was down in
- 33:59Speaker 2: the old football area in the stadium and it literally
- 34:04Speaker 2: is a mouse maze. It like there's no windows. You
- 34:08Speaker 2: don't know where you're going. You take a right and
- 34:10Speaker 2: you're lost. It's just little rooms. It's amazing. How like
- 34:17Speaker 2: when this state, when this place was built in two
- 34:20Speaker 2: thousand and one and opened up, like, oh boy, this
- 34:22Speaker 2: was a big impro like, you know, huge improvement over
- 34:26Speaker 2: the old piece of crap that we used to have.
- 34:28Speaker 2: And now you look at the improvement that we had
- 34:31Speaker 2: now over or over that thing. It's just amazing how
- 34:35Speaker 2: we got away with that for so long. Yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, they do the players Survey every year
- 34:41Speaker 5: and the Chiefs are always ranked at the bottom of
- 34:43Speaker 5: the league in terms of facilities, and they win the Super.
- 34:46Speaker 6: Bowl every other That's why it's hard for me to
- 34:48Speaker 6: go to the next step, like I did, say, we're
- 34:51Speaker 6: literals Wings.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Defending Super Bowl champs and got ranked as the worst
- 34:55Speaker 5: facility in the league. And so I don't know if
- 34:58Speaker 5: that necessarily translates to and losses. The other thing. I mean,
- 35:01Speaker 5: just as a football dork, the the virtual room is
- 35:04Speaker 5: super cool. And we were in there and then they
- 35:07Speaker 5: signed him, so I think we can say this. Hassan
- 35:09Speaker 5: Haskins was in there with Tony Dues and they were
- 35:12Speaker 5: running through plays, you know, walking through plays with Hassan
- 35:16Speaker 5: Haskins to get him on boarded until get him out
- 35:19Speaker 5: there and and practicing on the game on Thursday night,
- 35:22Speaker 5: and they're they're able to just kind of put a
- 35:24Speaker 5: defense up on the screen or an offense up on
- 35:27Speaker 5: the screen and not like it's like a virtual game
- 35:31Speaker 5: and they literally can play different pressures, different coverages, and
- 35:35Speaker 5: like you can literally walk through these different things or
- 35:38Speaker 5: you can use it the way that Tony Dues and
- 35:41Speaker 5: Hassan Haskins were. So when I went in there, I
- 35:43Speaker 5: was like, this is this is cool? Like he might
- 35:46Speaker 5: I don't know if it mattered.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Much needed cool, Yeah, much needed improvements and it's gotten
- 35:50Speaker 6: rave reviews all around. I just wanted to close the
- 35:53Speaker 6: door on that Van Rotent thing. I just looked and
- 35:55Speaker 6: he I don't see any center not so games.
- 35:59Speaker 5: So he played some in the CFL.
- 36:01Speaker 6: Okay, so but he did. I mean, he is a
- 36:04Speaker 6: much more experienced start. I mean he's been around a
- 36:06Speaker 6: lot longer than Hudson in eleven years. But he's also
- 36:09Speaker 6: started every game each of the last three years. So
- 36:12Speaker 6: he is a much better option than Utson. He's he's
- 36:15Speaker 6: a full time starter. Hudson really has never been a
- 36:17Speaker 6: full time he started I think like twenty out of
- 36:19Speaker 6: sixty games, whereas Van Rowden is more of a star.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's an upgrade. The point you were
- 36:24Speaker 4: trying to make, though, Paul was like, this is where
- 36:25Speaker 4: we're at with this. I think it's a positive and
- 36:28Speaker 4: that to me is something we've talked a lot when
- 36:30Speaker 4: we've all been watching practice of like it felt like
- 36:33Speaker 4: there were certain training camps in the past where like
- 36:35Speaker 4: this is a train wreck, or you know, it was
- 36:37Speaker 4: so dramatic the twists and turns of camp, and this
- 36:40Speaker 4: year it's there really hasn't been that. There has been
- 36:43Speaker 4: good moments for both sides of the ball. I agree
- 36:45Speaker 4: with Paul's point that the defense has probably had a
- 36:47Speaker 4: slight edge to this point. It seems like the offense
- 36:49Speaker 4: is picking up steam a little bit. But that's what
- 36:51Speaker 4: I said to Paul, like, is this how it's supposed
- 36:53Speaker 4: to be?
- 36:53Speaker 7: Are you?
- 36:53Speaker 4: Are you supposed to kind of come out of.
- 36:54Speaker 8: Day like until yesterday?
- 36:56Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, I know it's been a significant edge for
- 36:58Speaker 6: the defense, and I think the coaches feel the same
- 37:00Speaker 6: way based on some of the things.
- 37:01Speaker 8: That that Rabel has talked about with sort of.
- 37:04Speaker 6: The talking back and forth and hearing more about it
- 37:07Speaker 6: from the defense and stuff.
- 37:08Speaker 4: But with this more in line with what you guys
- 37:10Speaker 4: saw when they were more really positive that you just
- 37:13Speaker 4: like punch, you know, back and forth.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I mean, well, when when Brady was here, they.
- 37:17Speaker 6: Had I know, we had really good defenses and in
- 37:20Speaker 6: the ball right.
- 37:23Speaker 2: You don't even yeah, I mean everyone once in a
- 37:26Speaker 2: while they'd have a good day and you know, you'd
- 37:29Speaker 2: hear about it. But for the most part that was
- 37:31Speaker 2: an efficient practice. Offensively, yeah, I.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Think the turn though that it is slightly made maybe
- 37:37Speaker 5: in favor of the offense. You know, they do have
- 37:40Speaker 5: a lot of new pieces on offense that are playing
- 37:42Speaker 5: prominent roles. So like the first week or so training
- 37:45Speaker 5: camp when aj Brown and Romeo Dobbs are just kind
- 37:48Speaker 5: of getting their feet wet and things. Even like Elijah
- 37:50Speaker 5: Verratucker I thought was a little bit slow out of
- 37:52Speaker 5: the gate too, and he hadn't played you know, he
- 37:55Speaker 5: was hurt all of last year, so he hadn't played
- 37:56Speaker 5: it all in a couple of years. So maybe the
- 37:59Speaker 5: catch up is is more so about everybody's getting a
- 38:02Speaker 5: rhythm and starting to figure things out. But defensively, maybe
- 38:06Speaker 5: it's a little bit about Gonzales not practicing.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Yep, but okay.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Eight five y five.
- 38:12Speaker 2: PATS five hundred is the hot line podcast at Patriots
- 38:16Speaker 2: dot com. Is the email address people calling in already
- 38:21Speaker 2: on this Tuesday on Patriots Unfiltered, Getting ready for the
- 38:24Speaker 2: Eagles joint practices tomorrow and Thursday. Just a reminder, we'll
- 38:28Speaker 2: be out there live for the start of the joint practice.
- 38:32Speaker 2: We'll have Rabel live at nine thirty and then we'll
- 38:35Speaker 2: open the show at about nine forty five. The practice
- 38:39Speaker 2: starts about ten to fifteen, but you know, we'll do
- 38:41Speaker 2: our song and dance and set things up from nine
- 38:44Speaker 2: forty five to ten fifteen.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:46Speaker 8: Well, the comic stylings of Mike.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Show out there high above the practice field Atjillette Stadium.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Let's go to the hot line. Herm's in d C.
- 38:54Speaker 2: What's up, Herm?
- 38:56Speaker 10: Hey, what's going on? Gentlemen?
- 38:58Speaker 2: Hey?
- 39:01Speaker 10: Two quick ones for you guys today and uh set
- 39:03Speaker 10: up and listening to My first question is it seems
- 39:06Speaker 10: like last year under uh Verse first training him, there
- 39:12Speaker 10: was a little bit of a narrative going around that
- 39:15Speaker 10: his I guess his training camp was like soft right,
- 39:19Speaker 10: which I don't even know what that means. So do
- 39:21Speaker 10: you guys think that might have been a reason for
- 39:25Speaker 10: a relatively slow start yesterday? Right, considering we lost to
- 39:29Speaker 10: the Raiders and uh and in the stylus.
- 39:32Speaker 11: But on the flip.
- 39:33Speaker 10: Side, I've been listening to you guys like breakdowns and stuff,
- 39:36Speaker 10: and it sounds like he's been really going to gouts
- 39:39Speaker 10: to the grinder, right, So out of that premise, you
- 39:44Speaker 10: guys think that we'll have a fastest start, right and
- 39:48Speaker 10: and looking forward a little bit and obviously beat the
- 39:53Speaker 10: week one. And my second question, my second question is
- 40:00Speaker 10: looking back a little bit, right, And this is coming
- 40:03Speaker 10: from me a person that I literally dropped down to
- 40:07Speaker 10: my knees when I found out that we had coach Brabel.
- 40:11Speaker 10: But I don't think there's a world Well, do you
- 40:15Speaker 10: guys think there's a world where Jaroff Mayo could have
- 40:19Speaker 10: had similar success with you know, like a similar.
- 40:23Speaker 11: Infrastructure and stuff.
- 40:24Speaker 10: And I'll take off there and listen.
- 40:26Speaker 7: Thanks.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Okay, So the first question I'm not sure I agree
- 40:29Speaker 2: with the premise was Rabel kind of was it observed
- 40:33Speaker 2: last year that he might have had a soft training camp?
- 40:36Speaker 5: Yes? There was, Okay, Yeah, a lot of walkthroughs, less
- 40:39Speaker 5: days and pads. I stopped tracking it because I I
- 40:44Speaker 5: was writing about it, so that's why I went back.
- 40:46Speaker 5: But at one point in beginning of training camp, they
- 40:49Speaker 5: were significantly outpacing last year in terms of padded practices
- 40:53Speaker 5: by like two or three padded.
- 40:55Speaker 8: Yesterday was the tenth padded practice.
- 40:57Speaker 5: Yeah, now there's a limit, like you, there's a CBA
- 41:00Speaker 5: mandated limit of how many you can have. But they
- 41:03Speaker 5: were definitely in pads more consistently this summer than last summer.
- 41:08Speaker 5: And I do think that the one and two start
- 41:11Speaker 5: might have played a factor. It's a tough schedule out
- 41:13Speaker 5: of the gate, Seattle, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, right out of
- 41:17Speaker 5: the gate. If you start one in three, you know,
- 41:21Speaker 5: this year, one and two whatever, all right, it's not
- 41:24Speaker 5: as easy of a schedule to pull out of, you know,
- 41:26Speaker 5: win ten games in a row and pull.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Out of it.
- 41:28Speaker 5: So I don't know. If I don't think it's not
- 41:30Speaker 5: just Seattle. I think it's the whole month of September
- 41:33Speaker 5: is a difficult slate, and so I do think that
- 41:36Speaker 5: these things might be why they've They've gone after it
- 41:39Speaker 5: a lot more this year, I would say.
- 41:41Speaker 8: Than last gotta go.
- 41:43Speaker 4: I just said, to this point, last year going into
- 41:45Speaker 4: the Minnesota Joint Practices, which is dyed at seven, so
- 41:47Speaker 4: there's ten, so there's been three more. Yeah, to this point,
- 41:50Speaker 4: they'll probably end up about equal. The other spot I
- 41:52Speaker 4: was going to say, it is just that I wonder
- 41:54Speaker 4: if they're kind of going harder earlier and because you're
- 41:56Speaker 4: playing so early, that they're going to pull back now
- 41:58Speaker 4: and you know, these last couple of weeks a little
- 42:00Speaker 4: bit lighter.
- 42:01Speaker 6: Yeah, And I would just say that, and I'm glad
- 42:04Speaker 6: you have the facts of how many times they were
- 42:06Speaker 6: in pads last year. It definitely seems they've been in
- 42:09Speaker 6: pads more often. I wouldn't necessarily say last year was
- 42:11Speaker 6: an easy camp. I would agree with Evan. That was
- 42:14Speaker 6: the perception you heard about it with UH specifically Greg
- 42:17Speaker 6: Burdard was hammering it the whole summer. I didn't really
- 42:20Speaker 6: understand it, but that was the shots. That was the narrative,
- 42:24Speaker 6: is that they had an easy camp. And I did wonder,
- 42:27Speaker 6: and I think the three of us talked about this
- 42:28Speaker 6: a little bit, maybe about a week ago. Of what
- 42:30Speaker 6: Evan said, maybe they took the one and two start
- 42:33Speaker 6: into consideration. And said maybe we need to go a
- 42:35Speaker 6: little bit harder in camp to be more ready for September.
- 42:39Speaker 2: The second part of Herm's question about could Mayo have
- 42:43Speaker 2: had success with.
- 42:44Speaker 6: This infrastructure, I think that's that's a big question. But
- 42:48Speaker 6: so you're talking about the entirety of the coaching staff, right,
- 42:51Speaker 6: and all the players that they have, and a stretch
- 42:55Speaker 6: a Ryan Cowden, right, you know all those people. I
- 42:58Speaker 6: don't know that he would have gone fourteen and three,
- 42:59Speaker 6: but he would have been better. I think one of
- 43:01Speaker 6: the most underrated and undersold failings of that year was
- 43:08Speaker 6: not just Girod Mayo's inexperience. It was the inexperience of
- 43:11Speaker 6: the entire staff, right, Like there were guys in roles
- 43:14Speaker 6: that they had never been in coordinators that had never
- 43:16Speaker 6: called plays both sides of the ball, like top to bottom.
- 43:20Speaker 6: There was a tough situation. I'm not telling you that
- 43:23Speaker 6: Girod Mayo was this Bill Walsh in the making. If
- 43:27Speaker 6: he had just been given chance a time, maybe that
- 43:29Speaker 6: would never would have happened. He wasn't ready, and obviously
- 43:32Speaker 6: we all know what happened. I don't think they would
- 43:34Speaker 6: have gone fourteen and three and gone in the super Bowl,
- 43:36Speaker 6: no chance.
- 43:36Speaker 8: But they think was a big part of that.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Think about all the coaches and players that Rabel has
- 43:42Speaker 2: been able to bring in that he had familiarity with.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Mayo couldn't do any of that.
- 43:47Speaker 6: But I mean that's why, Yeah, that's why I'm trying
- 43:49Speaker 6: to It's a big question. It's unrealistic that that Mayo
- 43:53Speaker 6: would have been able to put this together right, But
- 43:55Speaker 6: which is the way he asked it with this infrastructure.
- 43:58Speaker 6: So in other words, just just take and put Mao
- 44:02Speaker 6: in and everything else is the same.
- 44:04Speaker 8: What would have happened. I think they would have been
- 44:06Speaker 8: a playoff team.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Now. The one thing that I don't think Mayo could
- 44:10Speaker 2: do as well as Rabel is the culture. How he
- 44:13Speaker 2: built the culture right away in the locker room by
- 44:17Speaker 2: bringing in the people he knew that could back up
- 44:21Speaker 2: his messaging. You know, right away he captured the team,
- 44:26Speaker 2: and I think they bought in pretty quickly.
- 44:29Speaker 6: Rabel was a big part of that test. I don't
- 44:31Speaker 6: think there's anything I think sugar coating.
- 44:32Speaker 4: I mean, Vrabel had a vision. He had coached before.
- 44:34Speaker 4: I think he learned from some mistakes he might have
- 44:36Speaker 4: made in Tennessee, and he came in with a plan
- 44:38Speaker 4: and created this team in his image and how he
- 44:41Speaker 4: knew what kind of schemes he wanted. I think in
- 44:43Speaker 4: retrospect a little bit of Girod was kind of stuck
- 44:46Speaker 4: still with one foot in the bill stuff and one
- 44:48Speaker 4: foot trying to like maybe move outside and get into
- 44:51Speaker 4: you know, the wide zone area, you know, and so
- 44:54Speaker 4: it just it felt kind of like it didn't have
- 44:56Speaker 4: a clear vision. And I think that was It's hard
- 44:58Speaker 4: to see for me because this team feels such like
- 45:00Speaker 4: Mike Rabel's vision, and I can't see Drop Mayo putting
- 45:03Speaker 4: these pieces together. He didn't have the experience.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Don't think he really had a vision.
- 45:06Speaker 5: Yeah, like that that was the biggest thing, is like
- 45:09Speaker 5: the organization from the top down, Like what kind of
- 45:11Speaker 5: players do we want, what kind of schemes do we
- 45:13Speaker 5: want to run? How to what players that have the
- 45:16Speaker 5: attitude that we want that fit the scheme? You know,
- 45:18Speaker 5: like all these different things. And I think Elliot Wolf's
- 45:21Speaker 5: talked about that a lot in terms of like making
- 45:23Speaker 5: that easier to scout because they go into these scouting
- 45:26Speaker 5: meetings and Mike Rabel has answers to all those questions
- 45:31Speaker 5: like is this a patriot type of player and is
- 45:33Speaker 5: you know, not just the personality, but also you know
- 45:36Speaker 5: the way that they play, you know, and I think
- 45:39Speaker 5: that that's I don't think drot had that.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Well, they did have a north Star.
- 45:43Speaker 6: So but you're venturing more into the crux of the issue.
- 45:46Speaker 6: So what's what's not assume that all of the infrastructure
- 45:50Speaker 6: is the same, that you're not even approaching anything close
- 45:53Speaker 6: to this. Like I'm giving Mayo the benefit of the
- 45:55Speaker 6: doubt with that roster, with that coaching staff, with that
- 45:58Speaker 6: personnel department, with everything that went with it, now, because
- 46:01Speaker 6: that's what herm asked with the same infrastructure, right, So
- 46:05Speaker 6: I'm saying, yeah, he probably would have been able to
- 46:07Speaker 6: win some games.
- 46:08Speaker 8: He would have won more than four games.
- 46:10Speaker 6: It's way unrealistic to expect if Gerard Mayo was still
- 46:13Speaker 6: here that all that infrastructure would have been put in place.
- 46:16Speaker 6: I don't think you would have been able to attract
- 46:17Speaker 6: that coaching staff. I don't think you would have been
- 46:19Speaker 6: able to identify and develop the players that they drafted
- 46:22Speaker 6: and signed in free agency and all of that goes
- 46:25Speaker 6: with it.
- 46:25Speaker 8: I don't think there's any chance they would have approached out.
- 46:27Speaker 4: What if he just fought AVP for Josh in that
- 46:30Speaker 4: first year. You know, it's just kind of a thought
- 46:33Speaker 4: experiment of.
- 46:34Speaker 5: Because McDaniels they might have been able to get I
- 46:36Speaker 5: think it would have helped with the connections to the
- 46:38Speaker 5: organization and the team and everything. But I think from
- 46:42Speaker 5: a personnel standpoint, there's just they they didn't have a
- 46:47Speaker 5: unified vision of like what how do we want to
- 46:49Speaker 5: build the roster and how do we want to build
- 46:51Speaker 5: the team. And you know they came in and Rabel
- 46:54Speaker 5: and Stretch and Ryan Cadden, Ellie Wolf, they have like
- 46:58Speaker 5: a real cis them that that they put into place
- 47:01Speaker 5: and to be able to get players and you know,
- 47:04Speaker 5: free agency, draft, all of it, and I just I
- 47:07Speaker 5: think that that was just totally lost.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm not ready to crown them yet.
- 47:11Speaker 4: I mean, I think the jury is still out on
- 47:13Speaker 4: these last two draft classes, but I think a crown,
- 47:15Speaker 4: go ahead, crown them three draft classes ago. Other than
- 47:18Speaker 4: Drake has pretty much been an abject disaster, and I
- 47:21Speaker 4: think some of that is related to not having a
- 47:22Speaker 4: vision and not knowing what kind of at least.
- 47:24Speaker 5: This last draft, like the Campbell Draft, at least has
- 47:26Speaker 5: NFL players in it. Other than the quarterback that they
- 47:29Speaker 5: picked third over it.
- 47:29Speaker 4: I didn't want to see that. The drafts so much
- 47:32Speaker 4: better now, I mean, like it's still a work in progress. Yeah,
- 47:34Speaker 4: but you can't argue with the results of that that
- 47:36Speaker 4: twenty twenty.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Anthony's in Seattle.
- 47:38Speaker 12: Hey, Anthony, Hey, Red Paul Evan deuce Yo?
- 47:43Speaker 9: Yo?
- 47:44Speaker 12: Hey, U is a going on with Is she's still
- 47:47Speaker 12: bloting around there?
- 47:48Speaker 4: Yeah? She's Yeah, she's on. Uh, she's on some fun
- 47:51Speaker 4: assignments this week to be revealed closer to the season.
- 47:54Speaker 12: Oh okay, just making sure because you know, like that
- 47:59Speaker 12: was just gone and guys never spoke about it again,
- 48:01Speaker 12: So just make it sure. Hey, Hey, I'll see you
- 48:05Speaker 12: guys tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it. I'm flying out tonight.
- 48:09Speaker 12: I'll be at the joint practice tomorrow. So yeah, it
- 48:12Speaker 12: sounds like I won't see Christian Dollars. Is that is
- 48:15Speaker 12: he still working through an injury?
- 48:17Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, I don't think you're gonna see him tomorrow.
- 48:19Speaker 12: All right, Well, I mean hopefully by by week one,
- 48:22Speaker 12: by the opener, all the injury would would be behind
- 48:25Speaker 12: him and the contract would be done and I'll see
- 48:27Speaker 12: him on the night because obviously we know the Patriots
- 48:30Speaker 12: are coming in coming into town, so I'll see them here.
- 48:32Speaker 12: So hey, I got nothing more to add. I'm just
- 48:34Speaker 12: a good one to call talk to you guys.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Let you know, all right, Patriots and filter Banner High
- 48:39Speaker 2: Trail and that's where we'll be tomorrow. We will speaking
- 48:43Speaker 2: of Gonzal's no updates with him, you know, it's it's
- 48:49Speaker 2: it's true that he did have something happened to him
- 48:52Speaker 2: at the end of that last practice that he was at,
- 48:54Speaker 2: but who knows if it's a combination of that and
- 48:58Speaker 2: the contract kind of dragging out. So hopefully you know
- 49:02Speaker 2: now that they've got the Witherspoon groundwork, you know, I'm
- 49:05Speaker 2: sure the devil now is in the details. How much
- 49:08Speaker 2: more of guarantee are we going to give him when
- 49:10Speaker 2: it's going to be paid out and all that stuff.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I'm sure that's what they're they're trying to work out.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Like we'll see.
- 49:16Speaker 4: Can I ask a question, do you guys?
- 49:17Speaker 2: I mean, I've when I was fourteen.
- 49:19Speaker 8: I'm permission to speak freely.
- 49:20Speaker 4: I'm privy to you know, watching negotiations happen from time
- 49:23Speaker 4: to time in my in my professional career, and I
- 49:25Speaker 4: mean Christian Gonzalez getting dinged up in camp. Do you
- 49:27Speaker 4: think that that is a a a conversation point as
- 49:31Speaker 4: they negotiate this contract, is he's had some injury issues
- 49:34Speaker 4: in the past, I would.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Think so, yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 49:39Speaker 7: I do.
- 49:39Speaker 6: He hasn't played a full season, and I'll guarantee you
- 49:42Speaker 6: that that's part of the negotiation from the teams.
- 49:45Speaker 5: I mean, he played sixteen out of seventeen games two
- 49:47Speaker 5: years ago.
- 49:48Speaker 8: I know, so he hasn't played a whole season.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Paul.
- 49:51Speaker 5: He sat in the week eighteen that they've played all
- 49:53Speaker 5: the backups.
- 49:53Speaker 6: Yea, with a concussion. He couldn't play.
- 49:55Speaker 5: Okay, I mean he once.
- 50:00Speaker 6: That's what they're doing. I'm not telling you I agree
- 50:02Speaker 6: with it. I would have signed a month.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing.
- 50:04Speaker 8: I don't get that opportunity that I feel like.
- 50:07Speaker 5: He hasn't played a full season, things like he got
- 50:10Speaker 5: hurt his rookie.
- 50:10Speaker 6: Year and Mike, it's back to your question, do you
- 50:15Speaker 6: think these things get used? My answer is yes, I
- 50:18Speaker 6: think they get used. I think they didn't do this,
- 50:21Speaker 6: you didn't do that.
- 50:21Speaker 8: Yeah, that's what you're doing in negotiation.
- 50:24Speaker 2: None of us know exactly what he's asking for and
- 50:27Speaker 2: none of us know exactly what's being offered. That is true.
- 50:30Speaker 2: If he's asking for significantly more than Witherspoon, I do
- 50:34Speaker 2: think his injuries are a factor.
- 50:38Speaker 6: What do you identify as significantly more than Witherspoon just
- 50:41Speaker 6: out of carrier? It depends on you know, how guarantee
- 50:44Speaker 6: he had one hundred and one guarantee?
- 50:46Speaker 2: How much more guarantee he's asking for? And yeah, I
- 50:49Speaker 2: mean if he's asking for forty million a year, I
- 50:52Speaker 2: think that's no more.
- 50:53Speaker 6: But one hundred and one million guaranteed. If he were
- 50:55Speaker 6: asking for one hundred and ten, is that significantly more?
- 50:59Speaker 6: I would say, yes, yeah, that would, But he might
- 51:02Speaker 6: he might not think that's significant.
- 51:04Speaker 2: But even if he's asking for the same amount guaranteed
- 51:07Speaker 2: or a little bit more percentage wise, but he's asking
- 51:10Speaker 2: for aav of forty, then that's significantly more too.
- 51:14Speaker 6: But I would only care about the guarantee because that's
- 51:16Speaker 6: all I'm paying. Well, I mean, the best of it
- 51:17Speaker 6: is fluff.
- 51:18Speaker 2: No, But if Witherspoon's getting one hundred million guaranteed on
- 51:22Speaker 2: thirty three million a year, I don't know what the
- 51:25Speaker 2: equivalency of guarantee for forty and if he's asking for
- 51:28Speaker 2: all of that, I would say, you know, okay, I
- 51:33Speaker 2: can see where there's a hold.
- 51:34Speaker 6: Up, but your point, sorry, just real quick. I would
- 51:37Speaker 6: just say your point about not knowing exactly what he's
- 51:41Speaker 6: asking for and what the team is offering.
- 51:44Speaker 8: That's to me the bottom line.
- 51:45Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 51:46Speaker 5: I just guessing, yeah, and I am totally guessing. But
- 51:50Speaker 5: my guess is that it's about payment schedule and not
- 51:54Speaker 5: the actual dollar amount.
- 51:56Speaker 8: I don't know that, but that would be my guest.
- 51:58Speaker 5: So I'm saying my guess is that because Witherspoon got
- 52:02Speaker 5: the bag now, like he's getting paid in his fourth
- 52:05Speaker 5: and fifth season. The fifty eight million dollars guaranteed in
- 52:08Speaker 5: the first two years of the contract. That's the real money,
- 52:11Speaker 5: right of the contract. The other thing's guaranteed for injury
- 52:15Speaker 5: at one hundred and one million dollars. He's got play yeah,
- 52:19Speaker 5: to get that.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Much lest guarantee.
- 52:20Speaker 5: So and for the fourth and fifth year of the contract,
- 52:23Speaker 5: he's getting the bag. Now.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Now here's the hope I have. At first, having the
- 52:28Speaker 2: same age it was kind of a made it more complex,
- 52:32Speaker 2: I think, But now I think it makes it better
- 52:34Speaker 2: for the Patriots and here's why maybe this should be
- 52:37Speaker 2: our legal seafood fresh take. But anyway, we'll do that
- 52:40Speaker 2: after the break. But here's why he's already done the
- 52:43Speaker 2: deal for Witherspoon. If he goes in asking for a
- 52:47Speaker 2: lot more for Gonzales. If I'm Witherspoon, it's like, well,
- 52:49Speaker 2: what are you doing? I'm just as good as him,
- 52:51Speaker 2: So I don't think he's doing that. I think he's
- 52:54Speaker 2: asking for something similar to what he got for Witherspoon. Otherwise,
- 52:58Speaker 2: Witherspoon is his client too, and he's like, I don't.
- 53:00Speaker 8: Think it matters what the agent thinks.
- 53:02Speaker 7: What.
- 53:02Speaker 8: I don't think it matters what the agent thinks.
- 53:04Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 53:04Speaker 8: It's what the it's what the player thinks.
- 53:06Speaker 6: The player think he significantly worth more than Yeah, well
- 53:09Speaker 6: it doesn't matter what the agents.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it does. I think the player agents
- 53:13Speaker 2: are also their advisors. They're telling them what's realistic and
- 53:17Speaker 2: what what they're done.
- 53:18Speaker 6: They can tell them what they think is should be done.
- 53:21Speaker 6: It's up to Gonzales to decide what is going to
- 53:24Speaker 6: be done.
- 53:24Speaker 2: It's true, but.
- 53:25Speaker 5: I wouldn't like, I don't know if the AAV is
- 53:28Speaker 5: the problem here, Like I think Witherspoon and Stingly got
- 53:31Speaker 5: paid in their fourth and fifth seasons, So Sauce Gardner
- 53:35Speaker 5: didn't get paid in his fourth and fifth seasons. He
- 53:37Speaker 5: got paid an escalator contract, where the money that's guaranteed
- 53:40Speaker 5: is kicked down the road to the back end of
- 53:42Speaker 5: the contract. Typically the Patriots operate on the escalator contract scale,
- 53:47Speaker 5: where you get a little bit more in the fourth
- 53:49Speaker 5: year than you would get normally, get a little bit
- 53:52Speaker 5: more in the fifth year than you would get normally,
- 53:54Speaker 5: but the bag comes in the sixth year. And my
- 53:57Speaker 5: guess is is that this hold up might be off
- 54:00Speaker 5: out of that, Like he wants the Witherspoon framework where
- 54:06Speaker 5: the four season, this year's or ear, he's going to
- 54:09Speaker 5: get a significant pay raise, like up to almost thirty
- 54:11Speaker 5: million dollars for the fourth season. The Patriots might want
- 54:15Speaker 5: to be in a cut. Well, you're still on your
- 54:17Speaker 5: rookie contract, so we're going to really kind of extend
- 54:21Speaker 5: this out a little bit longer that Dad. I think
- 54:24Speaker 5: is I don't think that it's like what Gonzales is
- 54:26Speaker 5: that whether got thirty three and Gonzalez is at forty,
- 54:29Speaker 5: and I don't think that's the.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Case of the Patriots. Doesn't it make more sense to
- 54:32Speaker 2: give him the bag right now because you've got Drake
- 54:35Speaker 2: May next year.
- 54:36Speaker 6: Yes, in terms of.
- 54:39Speaker 5: That, yes, if you are in the school and I'm
- 54:42Speaker 5: saying this is all hypothetical, if you are in the
- 54:45Speaker 5: school that once Drake May's contract kicks in and maybe
- 54:49Speaker 5: an aj Brown extension or something along those lines, that
- 54:53Speaker 5: the Gonzales thing might get revisited in terms of him
- 54:55Speaker 5: being here, like the Jets did with Sauce Gardner, then
- 54:59Speaker 5: it makes more sense to kick the can on the
- 55:01Speaker 5: contract down the road because then becomes another team's problem
- 55:04Speaker 5: to pay him the money. So I think that that
- 55:07Speaker 5: that I think is where teams, if you kick the
- 55:10Speaker 5: can down the road on the guaranteed money, you give
- 55:13Speaker 5: yourself a smaller amount of money due up front, then
- 55:17Speaker 5: that allows you to kind of finagle the contract numbers
- 55:20Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 55:21Speaker 6: I hope that's not what this is, because I don't
- 55:24Speaker 6: think it'll get done if it is.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Yeah, So again, this is all speculation. We have no idea.
- 55:29Speaker 2: We're all hoping it gets done some form fashion.
- 55:32Speaker 6: Quickly because I don't want it to bleed into the
- 55:35Speaker 6: season like you want to have Gonzales and Davis I
- 55:38Speaker 6: think is so important to how they want to play defense.
- 55:41Speaker 6: We talked about it early in the show, the lack
- 55:43Speaker 6: of you know, proven edge rushers. You need to have
- 55:46Speaker 6: guys that can cover. Gonzalez is as good cover guy
- 55:49Speaker 6: as really anybody you know. Witherspoon I think is a
- 55:53Speaker 6: tremendous player, you know, I actually think he impacts games
- 55:57Speaker 6: in a lot of different ways more so than Gonzales.
- 55:59Speaker 6: But as a pure cover guy, Gonzales is better.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 8: So I don't like, I don't know.
- 56:05Speaker 6: I don't know what the defense would look like. If
- 56:08Speaker 6: you take your cover guys.
- 56:09Speaker 2: It certainly limits it takes away from your all out
- 56:13Speaker 2: pressure if you don't have good covers the corner.
- 56:16Speaker 5: There's absolutely no doubt for this year's Patriots they need Gonzales.
- 56:20Speaker 5: If they're gonna make noise, they need Gonzales. I if
- 56:24Speaker 5: he signs the contract here, I still am a little
- 56:27Speaker 5: skeptical that he plays out the contract.
- 56:29Speaker 2: I don't care about it here. Yeah, but you get this.
- 56:32Speaker 6: Year your scenario. The hypothetical I think makes some sense.
- 56:35Speaker 6: You sign him, you give him the money you get.
- 56:37Speaker 6: You know, he's only twenty five, right, twenty five, I think,
- 56:41Speaker 6: so you get good years out of him. And if
- 56:43Speaker 6: you think that maybe the value is not there, we
- 56:45Speaker 6: overpaid him a little bit. You can move them these guys. Look,
- 56:47Speaker 6: these guys move now, right, you can trade these guys.

- 59:05Speaker 6: DraftKings is all about responsible game. It's more fun when
- 59:08Speaker 6: it's for fun, so played responsibly.
- 59:10Speaker 8: Draft Kings.
- 59:10Speaker 7: The crown is.
- 59:11Speaker 4: Yours gambling problem called twenty one plus. Age and eligibility
- 59:14Speaker 4: varies by jurisdiction.
- 59:16Speaker 16: Welcome to the most powerful kind of cancer care. One
- 59:19Speaker 16: team unites two of the nation's best hospitals. One team
- 59:23Speaker 16: saves more lives every year. Our team, we're one against
- 59:28Speaker 16: cancer mass General.
- 59:29Speaker 10: Brigham, Oh, I know, go ahead, so yep.
- 59:45Speaker 17: A lot of everything is pretty unique to itself, and
- 59:50Speaker 17: whether that's negotiations, or that's players or the play that
- 59:55Speaker 17: we're running, certainly those are unique and individual situation. And
- 1:00:00Speaker 17: I think we'll try to focus on Christians, and I
- 1:00:03Speaker 17: know he'll focus on his own situation. So we'll continue
- 1:00:08Speaker 17: to to work through that and he'll continue to to
- 1:00:10Speaker 17: try to improve and try to get back out on
- 1:00:12Speaker 17: the field. I would not anticipate that. I think he's
- 1:00:18Speaker 17: just in the return to play getting closer. He may
- 1:00:22Speaker 17: do a little bit more.
- 1:00:27Speaker 7: Because it's time.
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: What do you see this week?
- 1:00:29Speaker 18: Will that determine if guys play Saturday or is that
- 1:00:32Speaker 18: something you've decided a bid of time.
- 1:00:35Speaker 17: No, I think you have to use the work that
- 1:00:37Speaker 17: we get and how good the work goes I think,
- 1:00:41Speaker 17: and I now, as long as we get what we
- 1:00:45Speaker 17: set out to accomplish. I mean two days of joint
- 1:00:48Speaker 17: practices with a lot of reps. I think upwards of
- 1:00:52Speaker 17: you know, probably twenty eight reps. Thirty reps for the
- 1:00:55Speaker 17: first group on each day is a good number of
- 1:00:59Speaker 17: make sure that the tensities there, and then we'll evaluate. Yeah,
- 1:01:10Speaker 17: it's hard to be able to get those types of
- 1:01:13Speaker 17: things outside or you know, in a preseason game, and
- 1:01:17Speaker 17: so you know, we're just trying to work on all
- 1:01:19Speaker 17: those things that we're going to need throughout the season.
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: And I thought that that would be a good time
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: to do it right.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: I think you've learned about the team coming out of
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: the joint practice and aji that you can use into
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: in Philly.
- 1:01:33Speaker 17: Now that we have to just continue to be more consistent.
- 1:01:35Speaker 17: We have to continue to understand that, you know, the
- 1:01:38Speaker 17: opponent changes, that the you know, what we see in
- 1:01:41Speaker 17: the beginning of practice is usually going to be some
- 1:01:43Speaker 17: of the same things that we we see in the end.
- 1:01:46Speaker 17: If you don't fix problems, you know, or get get
- 1:01:49Speaker 17: things addressed, or recognize new plays that you know, that's
- 1:01:53Speaker 17: going to be what it's like in the game. So
- 1:01:57Speaker 17: I don't know if I learned anything other than we
- 1:01:59Speaker 17: have to continue to keep it proven that and that's
- 1:02:02Speaker 17: the goal.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: What difference your approach with two days, Mike rather than one, I.
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: Don't think it's much different.
- 1:02:09Speaker 17: I think that, you know, we'll be able to do
- 1:02:11Speaker 17: a lot more field work on the first day and
- 1:02:13Speaker 17: then probably focus on the red zone the next day.
- 1:02:17Speaker 17: But other than that, you know, we tried to put
- 1:02:21Speaker 17: everything into one day versus Indy, and now we'll have
- 1:02:23Speaker 17: much more concentrated work second day in the red zone.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: Andrew going down and then dealing with his injury, is
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: that a position you'd like to add when that we're
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: veterans to or do you like the younger group?
- 1:02:34Speaker 17: Well, I mean I think we have to be able
- 1:02:35Speaker 17: to evaluate the younger group and see what they do
- 1:02:38Speaker 17: here this week and you know, in a competitive setting,
- 1:02:41Speaker 17: and then also in the game, and then always, you know,
- 1:02:44Speaker 17: keep our eyes open to to what it looks like
- 1:02:46Speaker 17: around the league.
- 1:02:47Speaker 19: Like I mentioned earlier in camp that we might see
- 1:02:50Speaker 19: Caleb at Garden, I don't think we've seen it yet
- 1:02:52Speaker 19: in camp. Is that something that you guys might do
- 1:02:54Speaker 19: now you can deal with sym injuries there.
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: I certainly could.
- 1:02:57Speaker 17: I think we just what happens is is you know
- 1:03:00Speaker 17: where where do you feel like he can make the
- 1:03:02Speaker 17: most strides and you don't want to, uh, you know,
- 1:03:05Speaker 17: derail the in the improvement that he's baking and some
- 1:03:09Speaker 17: of those things.
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: And so.
- 1:03:11Speaker 17: I'm probably much like you guys and say, hey, that
- 1:03:14Speaker 17: it's not that big of a deal to go from
- 1:03:16Speaker 17: from tackle to guard. I've got a lot of coaches
- 1:03:19Speaker 17: that I'd probably think differently than what you guys and
- 1:03:22Speaker 17: and maybe me think, and that it's.
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: A little bigger deal.
- 1:03:26Speaker 17: But uh, I think Kayler has been working hard, he's
- 1:03:29Speaker 17: been trying to improve, but I think at some point
- 1:03:33Speaker 17: we well, we'll need to do that as well.
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: And and that's just trying to.
- 1:03:38Speaker 17: Be fair to the kid and the player, uh as
- 1:03:41Speaker 17: he's developing and learning this game and this this league.
- 1:03:45Speaker 17: Uh And then at some point in time, you know,
- 1:03:47Speaker 17: we'll probably have to take a look in.
- 1:03:48Speaker 19: There, Like Ted End does a spot that I think
- 1:03:50Speaker 19: can be difficult for rookies just to grasp all the
- 1:03:52Speaker 19: responsibilities and everything. With Ei, how is he doing with
- 1:03:55Speaker 19: that process of getting used to NFL speed, getting the
- 1:03:58Speaker 19: playbook down, and seemingly like get from a fire hose.
- 1:04:01Speaker 17: Yeah, I think probably fairly well, you know, I mean
- 1:04:05Speaker 17: it could always be better. I think that he's done
- 1:04:08Speaker 17: some some good things, and I think he's learning. He
- 1:04:11Speaker 17: rarely makes the same mistake twice, if you know, we
- 1:04:15Speaker 17: coach him on something, or he didn't like what he did,
- 1:04:17Speaker 17: and one day, he usually comes back the next day
- 1:04:20Speaker 17: and and does does a decent job at it. You
- 1:04:23Speaker 17: can see him consciously trying to do the things that
- 1:04:27Speaker 17: we're asking him to do.
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: And I think we're you know, headed in a good direction.
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: But uh, you know, long ways.
- 1:04:33Speaker 17: To go to having starting quarterbacks not playing all. I
- 1:04:41Speaker 17: don't know I really just focus on the Patriots and
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: not the league.
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: I don't know what other teams are doing.
- 1:04:49Speaker 17: You know, that's a question for for thirty two teams,
- 1:04:53Speaker 17: you know, so what we're trying.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: To do is certainly help that.
- 1:04:58Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean you get a lot of intensity, but
- 1:05:01Speaker 17: you know, you see a lot of different looks and
- 1:05:02Speaker 17: teams are you know, they're running a lot more stuff
- 1:05:05Speaker 17: than they would run in the preseason in the game
- 1:05:07Speaker 17: and putting it on film. And if that's what you mean,
- 1:05:10Speaker 17: I mean stuff that we saw from Indianapolis and practice
- 1:05:12Speaker 17: we didn't see from them in the game. We saw basically,
- 1:05:17Speaker 17: you know, one or two blitzes and.
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: A lot of other just base defenses.
- 1:05:24Speaker 17: How do you feel run games progressing and do you
- 1:05:26Speaker 17: have to manage expectations at all given how important time
- 1:05:28Speaker 17: on task is and all the movement that you guys.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: Have had on.
- 1:05:32Speaker 17: I mean, it's it's probably hard to tell. I mean,
- 1:05:35Speaker 17: I think it can always be better, but you know,
- 1:05:39Speaker 17: it's not live, so you don't know if guys break
- 1:05:41Speaker 17: tackles and you know, receivers are trying to come get
- 1:05:43Speaker 17: safeties that are three yards from the line of scrimmage.
- 1:05:47Speaker 17: You know, do you want them to go nail them
- 1:05:49Speaker 17: and then knock them into the others guys. So I
- 1:05:52Speaker 17: think that there's a fine line there and try to
- 1:05:53Speaker 17: figure out what the run game looks like and what
- 1:05:56Speaker 17: it will look like.
- 1:05:57Speaker 7: And there's been some good runs.
- 1:05:59Speaker 17: There's been sometimes where it's been one guy but still
- 1:06:03Speaker 17: not a very good play. So there's there's I think,
- 1:06:05Speaker 17: good things, and there's some things that you know would
- 1:06:08Speaker 17: have to be better. But we want to take care
- 1:06:11Speaker 17: of our guys. We want to make sure that we're
- 1:06:12Speaker 17: stand up and we're not creating piles. And sometimes those
- 1:06:15Speaker 17: receivers going down to get those guys and support creates
- 1:06:18Speaker 17: a little funky angle. And you know, we asked them to,
- 1:06:21Speaker 17: you know, take care of each other. So in a
- 1:06:24Speaker 17: in a game, maybe the guy you know is able
- 1:06:26Speaker 17: to block him by the hole, and you know, in
- 1:06:29Speaker 17: practice sometimes that doesn't happen.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: Are to make the most of his opportunities last year
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: and then the state of the room, he's evening more
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: this year. How do you feel like he has handled
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: maybe some of that increased.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: R I think good.
- 1:06:42Speaker 17: I think I think he continues to just just be
- 1:06:44Speaker 17: more comfortable and understand what the game is and what
- 1:06:48Speaker 17: it is from a special team standpoint, what it is
- 1:06:51Speaker 17: from a first and second down standpoint, what some of
- 1:06:53Speaker 17: the formations are, what he may be looking at.
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: Some of his keys, doesn't seem to be overly stressed
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: or or panic.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: How do you feel.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: Gibs progress has been now that he's been active for
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: Okay, I mean I think that it needs to be better.
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: It was better on Monday or whatever.
- 1:07:12Speaker 17: I guess not Monday, but whenever we practiced Saturday, I
- 1:07:17Speaker 17: guess it was better Saturday than it wasn't the game.
- 1:07:19Speaker 17: We pointed some things out to him in the game,
- 1:07:21Speaker 17: and I felt it was really cool to him to
- 1:07:24Speaker 17: be able to make those corrections and look at the
- 1:07:27Speaker 17: some of the body positions that that we feel like
- 1:07:30Speaker 17: he should be in, and he was really conscious of
- 1:07:34Speaker 17: those and I saw those things translated just a quick
- 1:07:37Speaker 17: short amount of time from the meeting after the game
- 1:07:40Speaker 17: to to Saturday's practice.
- 1:07:53Speaker 10: What is the biggest thing for you to stood out
- 1:07:55Speaker 10: about him and his developing as a player?
- 1:07:59Speaker 17: Played hard, has energy, you know, he's got you know,
- 1:08:02Speaker 17: get you get. It means a lot to him. It's
- 1:08:05Speaker 17: important to him. It's easy to coach you know what
- 1:08:09Speaker 17: I mean, you can you can coach him hard, and
- 1:08:13Speaker 17: you know he usually tries to make the corrections and
- 1:08:15Speaker 17: comes back and he you know, I think has continued
- 1:08:18Speaker 17: to prove. He's played well in a run game, flashed
- 1:08:21Speaker 17: a little bit of second first and second down pass rush,
- 1:08:23Speaker 17: being able to get into the pocket. So yeah, there's
- 1:08:39Speaker 17: a lot of guys that we talk about the professionalism
- 1:08:41Speaker 17: and like this is the situation. You show up the camp,
- 1:08:44Speaker 17: you compete, and then you try to hurt a role,
- 1:08:48Speaker 17: and that's what everybody's trying to do, and case Sean included.
- 1:08:52Speaker 17: So I appreciate what he does each and every day.
- 1:08:54Speaker 17: Made a huge play, uh for us yesterday at a
- 1:08:57Speaker 17: two minute and or the other day and these days
- 1:09:00Speaker 17: just run together. So I apologize, but made a huge
- 1:09:03Speaker 17: play for us, and just how he did last year
- 1:09:05Speaker 17: multiple times when we called on him. So he's ready
- 1:09:08Speaker 17: to go, he's prepared and and he's trying to earn
- 1:09:12Speaker 17: a role in.
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: His football team.
- 1:09:16Speaker 12: I'm talking about a lot last year.
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: There's one football there's one you know what I mean,
- 1:09:22Speaker 7: And I don't get to throw it.
- 1:09:23Speaker 17: We have a quarterback that that gets to choose who
- 1:09:25Speaker 17: he throws it to and hopefully it's a guy that's
- 1:09:27Speaker 17: open and in the progression in which, uh that we
- 1:09:30Speaker 17: install it so that you have to kind of be
- 1:09:34Speaker 17: every guy wants the ball. Everybody wants to score touchdowns.
- 1:09:37Speaker 17: Everybody wants the ball, but that's not realistic. So you know,
- 1:09:40Speaker 17: we don't throw it to you. We'd like to see it,
- 1:09:43Speaker 17: you know, transition and try to go block somebody. And
- 1:09:47Speaker 17: I see that from guys. I see guys. One guy
- 1:09:49Speaker 17: will have a good day, somebody else may not have
- 1:09:52Speaker 17: as a big a day and then it kind of switches.
- 1:09:54Speaker 17: So I think it's it's a good problem to have,
- 1:09:57Speaker 17: and everybody knows that, you know, if they're doing in
- 1:10:00Speaker 17: their job, that the ball is going to find him.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: What did you like about Jacob Brizzy as he starts there, Well, I.
- 1:10:07Speaker 17: Mean he has battled, he's competed, he's studied, you know
- 1:10:10Speaker 17: for a young center to go in there, and it
- 1:10:13Speaker 17: was good. I didn't think that the game, the way
- 1:10:15Speaker 17: that he got thrown into the game by you know, injury,
- 1:10:19Speaker 17: was was too big for him. He was prepared and
- 1:10:22Speaker 17: uh again, I think he'll continue to work and understand
- 1:10:25Speaker 17: that you know, this is a little different game than
- 1:10:29Speaker 17: probably what he was used to in college.
- 1:10:30Speaker 7: But he is.
- 1:10:31Speaker 17: He's figuring it out, figuring out angles and and those
- 1:10:34Speaker 17: things are so critical for for interior linement where they
- 1:10:37Speaker 17: have to go to get backers at the second level.
- 1:10:40Speaker 17: You know, these guys maybe react a little quicker at
- 1:10:43Speaker 17: this level, so I have to take a little better angle.
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: Thanks, and now great moments in.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: History Satellite radio. I really like it.
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: It's good.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't like it, Eric, I don't have it.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: You don't have anything. Okay, you don't even have HBO, pucas.
- 1:11:02Speaker 8: That's true. I don't have HBO like you. I have
- 1:11:05Speaker 8: access to HBO.
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: But you live like a monk's life over there in
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: North Providence.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: I know you're really concerned.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: You know, you're like a hermit.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: Sure, Eric, wear olive colored sweater's brown.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Down because I've said that before. It has a green tint,
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: and he gets really upset.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: I don't get upset.
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: It has a green tint to it.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: Sure, but it's brown.
- 1:11:29Speaker 8: It's not olive. I think it's all of trust me,
- 1:11:32Speaker 8: it's not olive.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: The color of an olive, like a dark olive, looks
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: just like your.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: That's another great moment from.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: All right. Legal Seafoods is giving fans a true taste
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: of Boston this season as the official seafood restaurant of
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: the New England Patriots. Pregame or postgame get the seafood
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: you love at your local restaurant today Legal Seafoods dot
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Com and uh, Paul, you got a fresh take.
- 1:12:00Speaker 8: You have a fresh take.
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: I'm going to be legal. I'm going to be honored
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: to give the first Legal Seafood fresh take of the day,
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: and that's going to involve something that you guys are
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: going to be a little surprised to hear from me,
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: is how impressed I've been with the performance of the
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: offensive line, particularly in pass protection.
- 1:12:17Speaker 8: We've talked about some reasons.
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: Why that might look a little bit better than it is,
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: but I think that that starting five of Will Campbell,
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: Elijah Vera, Tucker Tucker Tucker, Jared Wilson, Michael Wentu, and
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: Morgan Moses has been intact for most of pretty much
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: every day in camp, taking part in virtually every team
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: rep couple here and there for Morgan Moses and some
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: mixing and matching. I think that group has done a
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: great job, and I think that's the biggest reason why
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: when the offense has looked comfortable.
- 1:12:50Speaker 8: I thought it was really comfortable.
- 1:12:52Speaker 6: Against Indianapolis as an example, in that joint practice, I
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: think the pass protection has been really good and I've
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: seen a significant improvement in that area.
- 1:13:00Speaker 8: I think that's something to build on.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: All right, So that's your legal seafood fresh take slash monologue.
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: Doesn't usually come for doesn't usually come for me from anywhere. No,
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: that amount of you know, you know with the offensive line, Yeah,
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: that's that's.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: Say do that on your own time and just for
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: you people, you know, for all you press people.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Because I know that you watch this show that you
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: thought that all these years you were eating legal seafood
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: clam chowder at before the game. I've told you that
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: it's not legal seafood chowder. Make note of what you
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: had last week and what you will have this week
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: at the game that is legal seafood clam chowder.
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: I'm team chowder this year. I'm going yea, you were
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: saying that during the during the game, and then I
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: saw that not only that, but the crackers are legal
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: seafood too. So did you have some I didn't I well,
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: I'd already eaten in that point, but I'm gonna work it,
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: and I'm gonna I mean, I love clam chowder.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Matt Morrell's giving the thumbs up. Yeah, good stuff in
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: a bread bull, good stuff bread game, So that that'll
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: be for me. Every game is a little cup of
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: legal seafood. Clam chowder.
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: That is a thread, that's a Freddy staple, a cup
- 1:14:13Speaker 8: of chowder, hot.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: Dog, it's all coming again.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: We don't have hot dogs, but when we're on the
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: road and popcorn, popcorn, yeah, cracker jacks. I mean every
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: press box should have a hot dog, yeah right and popcorn. Right,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: just have that rolling thing where they don't forget the
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: postgame show donut. Well, I know, but I'm just talking about, well,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: you know a little stale sports writers need to eat
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: hot dogs.
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: Well, they finally got it together with the candy bar,
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: so they have candy behind the bars. Pretty good.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: It's okay, it's the mini ones, but it's had like
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: six pieces and that was like I got a whole
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: candy store set up.
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: Yeah, for one of our social team members will name anonymous,
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: Like he opened his bag and he just had like
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: all the candy from the Vagas press spe you're supposed to.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that's you know, that's not the spirit market.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: Well, it's funny how you know the press behaves. Back
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: in the day in the old stadium, we had a
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: press crew that was just motley. You know, you had
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: you had your real pros like Borgeous and Mannix and
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: in those guys, but you had a lot of people
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: there that should not have been in that press box,
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: that had credentials and you know, they needed to fill
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: the thing. No one was covering the Patriots back in
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: those days. But you'd have old guys that would come
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: with those old old school briefcases and the only reason
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: they had that briefcase was to load it up with
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: media guides and anything that wasn't nailed down for their grandkids.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: I mean, it was just thievery going on, you know.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: They did they have like the typewriters back then, like
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: you could gear like it wasn't quite that bad.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: But back then when I when I first started, they
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: were still all word processors. They weren't laptops yet. They
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: were like the radio shack candy trash. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: what I first used at the Herald. Yeah, so they
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: were laptops yet, but they were transitioning at that time
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: to word processors.
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: And you you hooked it up to a phone line
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: and that's how you that's how that's how you transmitted
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: your story. It didn't make that noise. It wasn't like
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: but it was.
- 1:16:27Speaker 8: It was a process, and it wasn't it wasn't it
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: wasn't seamless.
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: I am just old enough to know that noise and
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: know some of these things.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: I feel like that those are heady times. It was great,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: you're on the new frontier.
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: I had a compact computer that the keyboard would would
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: fold up into the box which was the computer and
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: you had to handle on it's like a big briefcase.
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: It had a screen about this big. And I had
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: my dial up and CompuServe service.
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: I think about that a lot, like we're we're jumping
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: on a moving train as younger media folks, right, you
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: know all the people you know. I knew somebody when
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: I lived out in LA who started at ESPN. When
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: ESPN started, they had a very successful career as a
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: as a a producer in the sports TV business and like,
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: but he got in on the ground floor, whereas like
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: people aren't my age and younger. It's already there's nothing
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: else to do, like it's already, yeah, it's already here.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: Listen. I remember I'm old enough to remember when TV
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: went from black and white to color.
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: I had a black and white TV, you know, when
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: I was very young.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: And the first show that I watched in color was
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: Lost in Space, and I remember they made a huge deal.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: You know, the next episode is going to be in
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: living color, and uh, you know you gathered around your
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: TV to see Lost in Space and color was it
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: was like what.
- 1:18:01Speaker 8: Was it the movie Diner?
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: I think Diner in the movie and uh, the guy
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: comes out and goes saw the pont de ros A
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: and color TV look faked like he because it was
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: like set back in the sixties and that that was
- 1:18:13Speaker 6: like the whole thing, Like all of a sudden, you
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: would see these shows for the first time in color
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: and it looked different.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Loving the AARP Show, Yeah, I think about that.
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: You think, though, like what you know, like what's the
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: next thing? Like you know, you want to be first
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: to the next thing that happens in media and everything's
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: kind of already been done, so like you have to
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: It's like AI you know, thanks, Yeah, that's I.
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: Don't I don't want the next thing. The next thing
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: is going to make.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: Us all about this a I think it's going to
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: be everywhere.
- 1:18:41Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Well, I think with these robots that they're building, Oh yeah,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: I think there's going to be a huge percentage of
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: men who are never going to leave their house. Oh yeah, sure.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: And you know, oh yeah why because it doesn't talk back.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: It does exactly what you wanted to do when you
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: wanted to do it.
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: I just I really love the Terminator. Be a bunch
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: of No, you're gonna live in a virtual space where
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: you like come into the world. I mean maybe you
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: don't even You just hook yourself up to like a
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: tube to feed you and you're just living in this
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: virtual reality.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: We're not good.
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: It's not good tube now.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: And you know, you see all the depictions of aliens
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: from the future, and they have these big eyes and
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: long fingers, because that's all you gotta need. That's how
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: we're going to evolve.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: Oh gosh.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: I just, I mean, I love the Terminator growing up,
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: but I really am starting to feel like I might
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: be living in like a Terminator situation and then not too, Dissy.
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: You know we're gonna we're gonna be getting chased by
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: a hunter killers.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: And Elon says, we're all thinking of it too negatively.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: It's supposed to be more positive than this.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: Okay, I know, but it seems kind of terminator.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Think about it as you'll be living in your living
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: room one day and say, oh, I want to play
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: this video game and you'll type it in your computer
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: and your computer will make the video urity for you.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: And I'm sure, but you know there's gonna be a
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: lot of bad things too. I think I don't know. Anyway,
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: All right, back to the phones, we go a five
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: to five, pats five hundred.
- 1:19:58Speaker 8: I'm gonna get this show started. Let's go.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and who better to do that than Christian in La.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: What's up Christian?
- 1:20:05Speaker 11: You guys, You guys, what's up boys?
- 1:20:08Speaker 7: Hey, you guys.
- 1:20:08Speaker 9: Hey.
- 1:20:08Speaker 18: So the next thing really is going to be this sort.
- 1:20:11Speaker 20: Of holographic technology where instead of having an actual guest
- 1:20:16Speaker 20: on the show, you'll have the hologram of the guests
- 1:20:19Speaker 20: on the show.
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: And I think they already did that with Brady, didn't they.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: Well, they have had forms of it, but it's not
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: it's it's not as good as I think.
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: Fox did it though, right because he's at the game
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: calling the game and then did it.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: A long time ago.
- 1:20:31Speaker 11: Yeah, the next generation is you got.
- 1:20:36Speaker 7: You won't be believe it.
- 1:20:37Speaker 18: I was in the place called three sixty Labs here
- 1:20:40Speaker 18: in l A and they are just it's it's amazing.
- 1:20:44Speaker 18: I was able to walk around that they had already
- 1:20:46Speaker 18: playing guitar. I was able to walk all the way around.
- 1:20:49Speaker 20: Him front back side, and it was like phenomenal. But anyway, yeah,
- 1:20:53Speaker 20: that's next, that's next generation. On the football, I watched
- 1:20:58Speaker 20: the the CULTU preseason game. I know it's just preseason game,
- 1:21:02Speaker 20: but what I really thought was that we have just
- 1:21:06Speaker 20: a complete lack of ability to stop the run bouncing outside.
- 1:21:10Speaker 18: I saw Gay Jackass get beat, you know, but whatever
- 1:21:16Speaker 18: his name is going to be, or Jackets what his
- 1:21:21Speaker 18: name is, I tell him get beat several times to
- 1:21:23Speaker 18: the outside. I didn't see anyone else be able to
- 1:21:25Speaker 18: really stop that bounced out play that ken Walker killed
- 1:21:28Speaker 18: us with. And I'm wondering what's our plan for that?
- 1:21:32Speaker 18: Because he can't be our only plan and I banged
- 1:21:35Speaker 18: up Haro Landry can't be our only plan. Second thing,
- 1:21:37Speaker 18: was do you think they did not play Kaishan Booty
- 1:21:41Speaker 18: really because they're trying to preserve him.
- 1:21:44Speaker 20: Or save him for a trade.
- 1:21:46Speaker 11: And if they do, is they're possibly.
- 1:21:48Speaker 18: A rangye outside line a rangy inside linebacker that we
- 1:21:53Speaker 18: can get for coverage.
- 1:21:54Speaker 20: That my second question, and then lastly is this what
- 1:21:59Speaker 20: is this team going to stick?
- 1:22:01Speaker 18: Put his chest out, you know, bring a shoulders back
- 1:22:03Speaker 18: and say, you know what, we did win the AFC
- 1:22:06Speaker 18: Champion Conference championship last year. I don't know if we've
- 1:22:08Speaker 18: teams raised the banner for that, but we've allowed this
- 1:22:11Speaker 18: narrative that we've gotten lucky that it was to schedule
- 1:22:14Speaker 18: all this craft from last year to really move forward
- 1:22:17Speaker 18: this year. And I haven't seen the team itself sort
- 1:22:19Speaker 18: of grab the narrative of you know what, we are
- 1:22:22Speaker 18: here because we belong. So I'm just wondering, though, you know.
- 1:22:26Speaker 8: What do you want them to do?
- 1:22:27Speaker 10: Talking for you?
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: What what do you want them to do?
- 1:22:32Speaker 9: You know?
- 1:22:33Speaker 18: I just want them to sort of go into this
- 1:22:35Speaker 18: joint practice with the Eagles feeling like champions, like playing
- 1:22:39Speaker 18: like like with that sort of areror And it doesn't
- 1:22:41Speaker 18: seem like we have that as the team is seen
- 1:22:43Speaker 18: like we're sort of backing into it, or we're allowing
- 1:22:45Speaker 18: this year, Well, we'll see what happens this year.
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: And the Eagles coming in.
- 1:22:50Speaker 12: These guys are going to be you know, flying flying around.
- 1:22:54Speaker 18: So I don't know what I want to see.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Had that feeling, Yeah, all right, I okay, So you
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: want to you want to see AFC Championship swagger? I
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: guess I don't know.
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: I think they have some swagger.
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: Yeah, they have plenty of it.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: I think there'll be a lot of back and forth
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: and talking.
- 1:23:09Speaker 6: It's yeah, it's the summer still, you know, I don't
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: really you know, Vrabel decided that the starters weren't going
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: to play. I had no issue with any of that.
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: You know, Kaishan Boody did actually play in the game.
- 1:23:24Speaker 6: He played, They did not target him. Yeah, And I
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: do think there's a couple of ways of looking at that.
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: Maybe they were trying to make sure that he stayed healthy.
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: You know, I think you could make an argument the
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: other way and say, you know, maybe feed him, you know,
- 1:23:37Speaker 6: three or four catches early in the game. You might
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: get on the radar and someone might say, hey, he's
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: expendable in New England, we should go and get that guy.
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: I don't know I could be convinced of that either way.
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: I don't think you're getting like you're not getting a
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: significant piece for Kaishan Boody right now in trade. I
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: mean you're just not well not a first like people.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: He's looking for a rangy inside linebacker. So was every
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: other team in the league by the way, you know,
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: minus one or two that have them. But you're not
- 1:24:06Speaker 6: getting a starting caliber player for Kayshaun Boody.
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I just keep saying the same thing
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: with him, like, don't you think he would have already
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: been dealt if they had a good offer on the
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: table for him, Like if they had a high draft
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: pick or a player for player trade that that was
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: that caliber. With all the rumors and all the even
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: Kishon Boody kind of admitting at the microphone multiple times
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: that there's.
- 1:24:27Speaker 8: Most recently, Yeah when is it Monday?
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:24:31Speaker 8: Yesterday?
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that you would have already been traded
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: if they had a great offer for him. On the
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: edge thing, I'll come to Agus's defense like a little bit.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: I thought some of them, especially the twenty two yarder,
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: the readoption with Richardson, I thought that that was like
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: they had like kind of a play on there with
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: him and John Saunders the safety and Akis was assigned
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: to the back and Sanders was assigned to the edge,
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: And I didn't actually think he blew the edge on
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: that one particular play. But you know, he is a
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: right now, he's the guy that needs to learn how
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: to where he's going and how to harness it.
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: And that was one of the very few players that
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: was on the field that I think potentially will play.
- 1:25:11Speaker 8: A role on defense.
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: There weren't a lot of regular players playing in the
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: game that are going to be big parts of what
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: they do in twenty six.
- 1:25:20Speaker 8: Acus Is won in the criticism.
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: I think Rabel would agree with Christian that they wasn't
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: a put his best foot forward. But you know, he
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: did have an abbreviated start, you know to camp. Let's
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: let him get his feet set. I mean, I think
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: if you're in the you know, the middle of November
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: and you've got nothing out of Gay Bacus, then I
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: think that's worth saying, like he's you know, maybe did
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: we oversell this second round pick, but right now not
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: too concerned about him.
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't. I guess I just didn't have a
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: ton of concern about him setting the edge against the run.
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: He had a couple of screens in his direction that
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: I thought he could have played.
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: A little bit better.
- 1:25:52Speaker 8: I don't think he played great, and then.
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: The quarterback got out of the pocket and his direction
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: on one play at Richardson got out of the pocket.
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: But if you're looking for a guy that's gonna set
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: a sturdy edge and not let the running back bounce
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: like Kenneth Walker did in the Super Bowl, then I
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: think Akus is gonna be able to do that.
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: And Draymond Jones, I think we'll be able to do
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: it on the other side. He didn't mention Christian didn't
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: mention him. Yeah, I mean, stopping the run wasn't an
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: issue last year obviously until it mattered most, to be
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: honest with you, I mean they struggled when Milton Williams
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: went out of the lineup down the stretch, but in
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: the playoffs the Super Bowl, obviously it was a huge
- 1:26:31Speaker 6: problem with Kenneth Walker had a big game, but it
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: wasn't really an issue for the vast majority of the season.
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: They had that long stretch where he couldn't even give
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: up a fifty yard rusher.
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: Which is funny because that they came out of the
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: training camp like that. We just talked about how there
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: was an area that they had a soft training camp,
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: but they were okay at the stop and the run
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: until they weren't. It's so hard to pin it down.
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: I just I think people need to look at Elijah
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Ponder more. I think it's a lot more about how
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: Elijah Ponder does this year than how gay Achus does.
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: I think gave Acis can work his way in.
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: To a rotation fresh take.
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: Yeah, but I I think, but I don't. We're not
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: really talking about him, and I think the coaching staff
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: seems pretty high on him, and they you know, he's
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: been bright in there as the as the starter off
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: the edge, opposite of Draymond Jones. You know, even if
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: Landry comes back, how much can you truly expect to
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: get from him. So in a perfect world, I think
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: Elijah Ponder has a really breakout kind of a season
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: and gives them some juice off the edge and gives
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: them solid edge play. You know, Draymond Jones is fine,
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: Like I think he's a sturdy player. But when we
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: talk about guys getting not winning, one on ones from
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: the defensive side. A lot of times it's Will Campbell
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: take and Draymond Jones and I he's seeing him get tossed,
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: you know. So it's and look, and I think they
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: can piece it all together. They did it last year.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: They can blitz and they'll run a bunch of stunts
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: and stuff to figure out a way. But look, in
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: a perfect world, you have a dude on the edge
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: that cannot be blocked single one on one. And then
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: when you have that complimentary Milton Williams and Christian Barber
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: are now you're really starting to cook with gas. So
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: you know, that's that's that's it gonna be an it.
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: And at least platoon ponder Akis, Like I think Ponder's
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: a little bit better pass rusher, acts a little bit
- 1:28:07Speaker 5: of better run defender, you know, at least if those
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: guys can end up in sort of some sort of
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: rotation or platoon with each other.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: And obviously Jones will play a lot on the other side.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: I just I have so little expectation for Harold Andry
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: bringing anything that I think that it's going to be
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: a lot of those two guys and maybe they can,
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: like you know, Ponder's the better pass rusher, so he's
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: gonna play in passing situations. And Akis is the better
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: run defender, so he's gonna play and run situations, and
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: they can kind of piece together a starter out of
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: those two guys.
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: See a little bit of Q. Hutchins too, like dabbling
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: with some of those russ with that has.
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: Some pretty good reps in one on ones because he's
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: got the speed, uh, and he can play special teams.
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: He's a really good special teams player.
- 1:28:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: Well, if he's gonna make the roster, he's gonna make
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: it covering kicks and he's really good at that, and
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: then he's got a little bit of juice in the
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: pass rush. So maybe they can develop him behind the
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: scenes as a pass rusher and then allow him to
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: play on kicking.
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: And I kind of liked Swinson. How Swinson was moving
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: in the game he played Late didn't feel like, you know,
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: it was he's one of those guys that's in Late,
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: but I don't know. I kind of liked how he
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: was moving and playing a little bit.
- 1:29:13Speaker 6: The only guy I liked off the edge in that
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: game was Luketta, Jesse Luketta, who has. I mean, he
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: should look better at that stage. Mike and I talked
- 1:29:21Speaker 6: about this a little bit at practice. You can sort
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: of see a difference with a guy who has kicked
- 1:29:26Speaker 6: around the league for a year or two. Yeah, as
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: opposed to the undrafted rookie who's playing, you know, in
- 1:29:31Speaker 6: a full stadium NFL stadium for the first time.
- 1:29:34Speaker 8: And I thought Luketto was one of those guys.
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: Mike brought up Hassan Haskins as a running back, you know, yeah,
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: maybe it looked like a little bit better than like
- 1:29:42Speaker 6: Lean Larrison and Jim Miller did, Which makes sense because
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: he's playing against guys that have never been in the
- 1:29:48Speaker 6: league late in the preseason game and he has some
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: NFL experience. I don't necessarily think that those guys are going.
- 1:29:55Speaker 8: To factor in. Like Luketta, I mean, I think.
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: Could be the kick returner. He's got twenty running back
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: twenty eight career kick returns. You know, they want a
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: running back in that role.
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe that's that's how he finds a roster, stands
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: out in that group.
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: Because I thought Jan Miller ran it pretty well. I
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: thought he was fine in the but then they signed
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: Haskins and he was immediately taking reps in practice from
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: jam Miller. Yep, so I wonder if that is already.
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: I don't know that they really like Haskins. It was
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: like immediate that he came into practice and was getting work.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: Jeffson Maine. What's up, Jeff, Hey, now he now So
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: some of.
- 1:30:37Speaker 11: The things you just said probably answered my questions already,
- 1:30:40Speaker 11: But okay, I was wondering if there was who the
- 1:30:42Speaker 11: third running back might be, whether it would be Larson,
- 1:30:47Speaker 11: Miller or Haskins or you know, in my opinion to
- 1:30:51Speaker 11: keep four if you can, but probably too much with Gilliam.
- 1:30:55Speaker 11: And the other quick question would be if Lanes the time,
- 1:31:01Speaker 11: who is their backup with Gibbons now gone. I think
- 1:31:03Speaker 11: he went to the Cardinals.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: M hm, that's all I have, all right, thanks Jeff.
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean talking about the preseason game, Chad Mummer
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: really struggled and then now he's been hurt, so maybe
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: it was injury related that he struggled, but he he
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: had a rough game on Thursday night and kJ Britt
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: made a couple of plays back to back that caught
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: at camp.
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: Hadn't seen it.
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: Yeah, obviously they like Khalil Jacobs really reads the run
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: really well as fast, processor plays quick, But I don't
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: know if he's ready as an undrafted rookie to play
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: like a third linebacker. Roller going to play a little bit.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: Yeah, And even Obi Eiser was getting some you know
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: reps yesterday a little bit. I mean just I don't
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: know what that means, but I think it's a long
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: term need. Christian talked about trying to trade for one
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: of these guys. I don't think that's on their docket.
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: I think they'd be okay with Spulling and Ellis for
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: the season, but that is the great question, you know.
- 1:31:50Speaker 8: I think he is going to factor into that mix.
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: Del Pettis, Yeah, yeah, safe box if they need, like
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: if they have to go down the depth shot and
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: do some different things. I've seen him out there in
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: the middle, and that's the role that he's in, is
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: what Evan just said, like sort of the box safety guy.
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: And I thought it was interesting today Reggie Gilliam talked
- 1:32:13Speaker 6: and he was talking about sort of fullback being one
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: of those positions you kind of have to play. Like
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: these reps in preseason are kind of valuable for him
- 1:32:23Speaker 6: because there's a feel and like you need to sort
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: of learn the linebackers, and he mentioned Spallane, Yeah, hellas
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: and Pettis, Yeah, those are the three names he mentioned.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: Pettis can hit like Pettis hits and brings it. John
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: Sounder is probably more athletic and play more in coverage.
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: I would say more. They're a type of player in
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: terms of playing deep and covering tight ends and receivers
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: out of the slot. But if you want to like
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: a true downhill box safety, then Pettis probably fits that.
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: And I think Mike Brown has kind of gotten passed
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: over at this point by those two guys. But big
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: Nickel three safety looks. It's like I think that they're
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: trying to get to that. It's just do they have
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: the third safety to do it as much as they
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: think they want to that.
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: I mean, you know, countering heavy personnel yesterday. I mean
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: that's you know, he's kind of the dimeback right now.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: And you know, I like that player and I but
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: I think this is an area I talked about going
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: into camp. Are they stuck in Nickel? Are they kind
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: of you know, they don't really del Pettis no no
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: offense to him, Like he's been around for a little
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: bit and he kind of is winning it. I mean,
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: he's having a good camp. I think he's been active.
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: But you know, I just once you get beyond their
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: base nickel and you're talking about taking Marcus Jones off
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: the field, just I'd love to have a little bit
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: more promising depth that you feel like, man, it'd be
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: great to be able to get this dime back on
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: the field. He's a rookie, but he looks like he
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: can play. And I'm sure the extreme will be how
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: they felt about even more Y last year, where like,
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: this guy, we got to get him on the field.
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: He's going to change our defense.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: That that's I think the question is that you know,
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: we've seen them experiment with pure base like you know,
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: real base defense. Muma has been the third linebacker for
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: the most part in base. They've also experimented with three safe.
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: But the teams that run a lot of three safety, Seattle,
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: the Chargers, Baltimore, it's I Minori, Derwin James, and you
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: bring the Kylembt like it's studs that are playing that
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: Nickel role. I don't know if del Pettis or John
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: Saunders is really good enough for that. So you know,
- 1:34:18Speaker 5: It's great in theory to want to do that with
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: how teams are loading up offensively with the tight ends,
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: but like, do they really have the horses to do it?
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: A lot so too with Charles Woods, like he's been
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: getting some slot reps, so it feels like they've got
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: him as definitely the backup on the outside, but I
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: think he also could be, you know, just that they
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: want to get. We don't want to go as heavy
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: as del Patis, but we want to bring in a
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: you know, a dinmeback that's a corner. I think that
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: that's a place Charles Woods is going to play too.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Darius and Louisville writes in listening but hearing you guys
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: Evan and also Rabes talk about running the ball more
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: or better against Seattle has me thinking, I know we
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: weren't great running the ball when we needed to last year,
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: but do you think they'll over correct for that for
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: last year and take the ball out of drake hands
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: Drake's hands more. I think with the weapons we have
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: and Drake getting smarter, we can spread teams out and
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: let him pick them apart. Evan, I'm not saying never
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: run the ball. I love the running game. I guess
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: I'm just asking if Drake will be hurt by the
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: need to try to run the ball better. I'm not
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: worried about it.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: Yeah no, I don't think so.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: But I think that make Drake better.
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: If teams are gonna go lighter, defenses are gonna go lighter,
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: and they're gonna play too high safeties and they're gonna
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: light in the box and all this stuff. Like you
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: that's that's the chess match, Like throwing into Seattle's two
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: high safety shells is not gonna You're not winning that way.
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: Like that's how the Super Bowl went, and we all
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: know how that went. So you know, if you're gonna
- 1:35:47Speaker 5: that's what you gotta do. You gotta you gotta be
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: able to run the football. You gotta get them out
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: of nicol, You got to get them out of too
- 1:35:53Speaker 5: high safety. You gotta make them put another hat in
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: the box. You gotta make them put bigger bodies on
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: the field, and that's when you can start to create
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: opportunities in the passing game. So that's everybody in every
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: NFL training camp is having the same discussion, how do
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: we get defenses out of too high safeties? Because everybody's
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: playing the same defense. They're all playing with an umbrella
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: over the top of the defense. So how do we
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: get the defense out of too high safety. You gotta
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: run the ball like you gotta put big people on
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: the field, and you gotta run the ball like that.
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: Especially when your quarterback is really good at throwing the
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: ball downfield with accuracy. And so, you KNOWV said it,
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: this is the trend right now. Everybody wants to play
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: with that high shell. Like who else are you doing
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: it against other than Drake maybe, And that's the perfect
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: guy to say, let's play too high. Let's make Drake
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: readout the coverage and take the check downs. And like
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: V said, the great thing that will even all that
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: out is you start running the ball. And they got
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: to bring somebody into the box. Now Drake's gonna.
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: Feast, and then your offense becomes hard to defend. You've
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: got that right.
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: It's exhaustingly boring. How many defenses play the same defense
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: every week you turn on a tape, it's the same defense.
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: It's a modified version of the Seattle three. Now it's
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: more too high safety instead of you know, cover three.
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: And it's just the same thing over and over again,
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: and every single time you watch offenses that try to
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: drop back and pass thirty five times a game against that,
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: and Seattle's bringing pressure from everywhere, and you're like, this
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: is just a death sentence.
- 1:37:19Speaker 6: And I would just say, completely anecdotally, I'd be stunned
- 1:37:22Speaker 6: if they don't attempt more passes this year than they
- 1:37:25Speaker 6: did last year. They were low twenties so many different
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: games because that's all they needed to all they needed.
- 1:37:33Speaker 6: They're they're in control in the second half, the attempts
- 1:37:35Speaker 6: are down, we're running clock and we're getting out.
- 1:37:38Speaker 8: It's not going to be that easy this year.
- 1:37:41Speaker 6: So I just think game situations will dictate them having
- 1:37:44Speaker 6: having to throw more than they.
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: Did last games will declare Yeah, I mean, I mean
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: Gilliam's a big part of that. I think that's a
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: big acquisition and it's you know, it's going to immediately
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: be one of those things early on where you're feeling out,
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: how are they going to play us when we put
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: Gilliam on the field.
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: What about it?
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: Yeah, it's gonna Paul's favorite kind and type.
- 1:38:01Speaker 8: I love that because that will take the ball out
- 1:38:03Speaker 8: of Drake Mays hands and I would not like that.
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: He's gonna love. I mean, this is where we're going.
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: We're going. Full backs are back, multiple tight ends are back.
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: It's the because it's the only answer. Like, if they're
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: gonna play this way defensively, you know you got to
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: find a way to get them out of it, and
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: it's the only way to do it.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: Paul in Providence, it's great that Dobbs and Brown are
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: making progress in their connection with May, but I can't
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: help but think this progress is more of a function
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: of playing it against second and third string cornerbacks. The connection,
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: particularly with Dobbs was non existent when playing against the
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: first team defense. Do you have any concerns that this
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: development is fool's gold.
- 1:38:40Speaker 6: A lot of these catches were against Carlton Davis, so yeah,
- 1:38:43Speaker 6: I think that's a little unfair.
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: They've they're proven NFL players. Like if this was a
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: rookie and he was and like they drafted a high
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: pick and he was going off and practice against depth corners,
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: But like it's AJ Brown and Romeo Dobbs who have
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: real production in the league. And I also just would say,
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: like not every team has Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis.
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: They're geting to play a lot of teams that have
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: stinky corners and like they're not gonna be as good
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: as the guys the Patriots have.
- 1:39:11Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: So I think at the very least, it's encouraging that
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: like AJ Brown, if you put AJ Brown against a
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: kind of a fringe outside corner, like, he's still going
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: to torch that guy at this stage of his career.
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: And that's the way I would.
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: Look at it.
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: But if you wanted to be negative about it and say, well,
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: you know, it's because of the guys getting hurt, you
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: could say that about AJ Brown hasn't seen Gonzales now
- 1:39:33Speaker 6: for a week, so maybe that's why he's on an uptick.
- 1:39:37Speaker 6: Carlton Davis and Romeo Dobbs have seen plenty of each other.
- 1:39:40Speaker 6: Davis has been back now for several practices. He's back
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: like he you know, am I saying that he's in
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: like regular season form? Probably not, But why should I
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: think that Romeo Dobbs is in regular season form.
- 1:39:51Speaker 8: It's camp for him too, So they've been back.
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: I think, like I said earlier in the show, he's
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: been running those twelve yard outs and getting open routinely.
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: Hatriots place with.
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: Carlton Davis covering him again. Brown might be benefiting from
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: Gonzalez's absence, but I don't think that's been the case
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: for Dobbs.
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: Yeah, they just look like Patriot plays to me, and
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: that's you know, it just looks comfortable. He looks like
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: he's in the right spot regardless of who the matchup is. Yeah,
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: you know, he's just in the right places. And I
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: think that's what I was most interested in, not that
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: all these matchups are shutting him down. Does he know
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: what to do? Can he get there quick? Can he
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: you know, be where Drake wants him to be?
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: And it wasn't that way when camp started.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: Yeah, So, I mean, look, there's always competition's gonna uptick,
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: but you know, a J. Brown going against Christian Gonzalez
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: every day, that's that's as good as a matchup as
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: you can possibly see him.
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: Less than the slot Dobbs, Like, I think early on
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: they thought that he was going to play more inside
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: and played the big role and stuff like that, and
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: I feel like now they realized it's going to be
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: more of an outside receiver, heavy you know, offense, with
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: Dobbs and Brown both playing on the outside.
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: Tina from Indy rites in thank you for making me
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: laugh every time I listen. I enjoy the banner, and
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: I honestly have learned so much about scheme and different
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: personsonel from listening. I had to write a quick email
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: to tell you that I love Mike's shirt. He looks
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: exceptionally handsome. Today I am happily married, but I can
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: still look thank you, thank you for my shirt.
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: I would agree with that email. Mike, you are exceptionally handsome.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: I love hearing him.
- 1:41:18Speaker 8: Paul he Is say he's a good looking guy.
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: Say it all the time, mister Hollywood over there, we
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: can handsome.
- 1:41:27Speaker 7: Matt.
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: Matt wants to know what Evan thought about Raridan's blocking
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: and if the fans feel kind of justified about what
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: they saw during training camp.
- 1:41:39Speaker 5: Good getting better.
- 1:41:41Speaker 8: That was my next question.
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: The block that he threw on Jan Miller's fifteen yard
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: run was really nice. Came off the end combo the
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: end with Arkin, came off, hit the corner, threw him
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: out the club. That was like, there we go. That's
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: what you want more of that. Some of the like
- 1:42:00Speaker 5: base blocks or kickout blocks on the line of scrimmage
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: is more of like a stalemate. Right now for him
- 1:42:04Speaker 5: than he's like actually creating movement, and I think that's
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: where he is going to need to improve a little bit.
- 1:42:10Speaker 5: But functional, like I thought it was okay, it's fine.
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: He's not going to make his living blocked out block
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: He's a big running guy, and like, you know, it's
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: fine now, and then they're gonna have to show him
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: in to do it. He puts in the effort. He's
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: got good size, he's thick, but you want him to
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: be running the seam and making plays down the field.
- 1:42:27Speaker 8: He ain't thick with two c's. He's small.
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: He's very tall, but he's small.
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: But yeah, I think I like his build though I
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: don't think his build is you know.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: I think he's a sterticular athlete. I think he can
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: be a weapon in the past. I don't know if
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: I'm not telling you now. I think down the road
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: he could be a really valuable weapon.
- 1:42:46Speaker 8: And that's for them, I mean, that's what you want.
- 1:42:47Speaker 8: I don't think he's ever going to make a living.
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: I mean unless I mean, we're trending in the right
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: direction learns nutrition at the NFL, we're trending in the
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: right direction.
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: As a blocker, like he's I don't think he's going
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: to be Gronk obviously, but like we're trending in the
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: right direction there, and you know, if he's there's a
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: chance that he could be better than Hunter Henry already
- 1:43:05Speaker 5: as a rookie. Hunter Henry is not a very good
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: blocker as a block Yeah, So like I think that
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: there's a chance that that happens. I was less excited
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: about Arkin. I thought Arkins struggled in the game. I
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: thought Rariden was was decent.
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: And I look at Arkin and Rareden like comparatively, and
- 1:43:23Speaker 6: I know that they play I mean, I know they
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: both tight ends, but they don't really play the same position.
- 1:43:27Speaker 8: I understand that. But one of them is like a
- 1:43:30Speaker 8: tackle and the other one is like a you know,
- 1:43:32Speaker 8: a big slot.
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought I thought Arkins struggled a little bit
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: in the game. I thought that they gave Rareden some
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: real assignments though, like they had him blocking ends and
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: things like that, And like.
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: You need to because that whole thing about being predictable
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: is relevant, especially and Josh has talked to me about
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: this a million times over the years. If you if
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: you have to get stuck, well here it comes Arkin
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: for the two tight ends. That's a tell. Yeah, And
- 1:43:58Speaker 6: they don't want to do that, So you need to
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: railed and be able to at least show up. Yeah,
- 1:44:02Speaker 6: And that's what Rabel said the other day, Right, he's willing,
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: He's willing.
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: I just want to see a little bit more movement
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: on the kickouts, like he just that space just gets
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: a little bit too compressed and they try to hit
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: the sea gap runs, just like, get him out a
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: little bit more. But that might come, but that he
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: might need some skinless chicken Polly before we're talking.
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: I agree that Chris and Clemson trying to stay away
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: from the usual camp questions. So I have these three
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: for you guys. One, is this defense actually built to
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: win without blitzing? If the Patriots can't consistently generate pressure
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: with four, does that force able to blitz more than
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: he'd like? And if so, does that create a domino
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: effect by exposing the linebackers and secondary and coverag Yeah,
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: it does.
- 1:44:42Speaker 8: Small sea concern. Yeah, to steal Evans phrase of the
- 1:44:45Speaker 8: Summer two.
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: What happens when a defense decides aj Brown simply isn't
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: going to beat them if teams bracket Brown play too
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: high and force someone else to win. Have you seen
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: enough from Dobbs, Douglas, Henry in the running game to
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: make them pay? Or does this offense still become significantly
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: easier to defend when Brown is taken away.
- 1:45:06Speaker 8: I have less concern about that.
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I have less concern about that for sure. I think.
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: I mean the way Pop Douglas has been showing up,
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: the way Dobbins has been showing up. I mean, I
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: think Vermondre is just quietly doing what Modre does, and
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: if he stays healthy, he's going to be a back
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: who can do It's be stunned if Andre Stevenson had
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: like a bunch of big plays in the passing game. No,
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: I feel like they've been using him a lot as
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: a receiver on like does not just like dump offfs
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: like on design routes. That little I always call it
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: a stick row, but I don't know, it's probably not that,
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: but that little like a little bend to the post
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: that over the middle, and he's got big plays on
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: that on that little.
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: Round the angle are out, Yeah, and it's it's there,
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: like every time that they go to it. It seems
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: like it's open. And I think they used it a
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: couple of times to get out of trouble last year.
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: Once I think in the I think the Chargers playoff game,
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: but I might be misremembered.
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I have a little dump feet biggest game.
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: I think they have a lot of options. If teams
- 1:46:06Speaker 6: want to dial up something to take aj Brown out,
- 1:46:09Speaker 6: I think they have options.
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: So they're bracketing him.
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: That's two guys and four guys. Yeah, I don't know
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: how that we got there, but they they have more
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: now I think this year than they did last year.
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: If that that's the game plan, if they're taking out Brown,
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: like last year when they got into the playoffs, they
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: started taking out.
- 1:46:26Speaker 8: Digs and they didn't have options.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: They didn't really have much else. But this year I
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: feel like they're better better A question?
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: Final question is what did Indianapolis expose that coaching may
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: not be able to fix? Looking at what you saw
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: against the Colts, which problems were communication or execution issues
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: that can be cleaned up in which, if any, made
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: you think the Patriots simply may not have the personnel
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: to consistently win that matchup against good teams. Does Philadelphia
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: give us our first real answer?
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: Covering tight ends as good as Tyler Warren. Have you faced,
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: like may you faced a guy like, you know, top
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: five tight end in the league. I think that you
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: might worry about that a little bit. You know, Aj
- 1:47:07Speaker 5: Barner gave them trouble in the Super Bowl. Warren gave
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: them trouble if they play like a Ifada is ever
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: healthy and he's playing, you know, for the Bills, you know,
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: things like that, Maybe.
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: How do they deal with like three tight ends, like
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: when they go in into Chicago, you know, like that's interesting.
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: I know they're kind of you know, unique. The Rams
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: kind of do that thing too, But I would say
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: the rushing offense, I just over all the upfront consistently
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: pushing guys off the line and open it up.
- 1:47:34Speaker 6: Yeah, those are things that I think are issues in
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: New England. I don't necessarily look at anything that happened
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: against the Colts and worry about it, but the tight
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: end thing, because even if you take it back Tyler
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: Warren is an exceptional talent, then you get on the
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: field in the game, which is obviously paired down, but
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: now you have backups against backups, and tight ends are
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: still an issue. So I just wondered if defensively, Do
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: they have an answer for this?
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean even will Mallory them some problems. Yeah,
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: So that that would be something i'd specifically to the Colts.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: The rush offense, I think is just a matter like
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: they're not a they're not a bull dozing offensive line.
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: Like they're not a they're not a road grading offensive line.
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: That's not the group that they put together. So you
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: have seen a lot more stretch you know, outside zone
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: plays and things like that like that takes time, like
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: to develop the chemistry on the combination blocks and the
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: reads and all that kind of stuff. So I you know,
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: maybe that's a little bit of a slow burn is
- 1:48:33Speaker 5: the run game. But I don't know if that's specific
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: to the Colts. The one thing I would worry about
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: with the offensive line, know is that like they they
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: don't really have like a lot of power. But outside
- 1:48:43Speaker 5: of on when you on that line that you really
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: think of people, you know, downhill people movers, like we're
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: gonna get on double teams and and move the line
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: of scrimmage. I think they're gonna be more of like
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: a finesse you know, run game, which we'll see if
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: that that translates.
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: In on that one too.
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: It does seem like even now when they have any
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: monicament success running the ball, it's to the right side.
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: Remember that was the big thing last year. They had
- 1:49:09Speaker 6: a sort of power up behind a winner win Moses.
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: I've seen that a little bit this Every once in
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: a while there's a crease off right tackle and no
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: sniff off on glad.
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: Evan said though at the top, reminding people that Elijah
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: Vera Tucker hasn't played in a year. So I think,
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: you know, I kind of forgotten that, and I think
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: that's an important.
- 1:49:24Speaker 6: Have you've been disappointed in vera attacker like Fred's been
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: disappointed in Drake Back.
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: I just I would say underwhelmed. I know, I mean,
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: but it's hard to be overwhelmed. It's hard to be
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: overwhelmed in a practice, you know, setting like this. But
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: you know, I don't know that's one where how good
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: is this guy? Because you know it's a first round pick.
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: Everyone said, well, he's healthy, he's really good. Okay, I'll
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: give some chance to knock some rust off. But like
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: I want to see who this first round pick really
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: good guy is.
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: See, I feel like I've been I think Vera Tucker's
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: been fine. Yeah, Like I think a lot of the
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: things that have been issues with him early on were
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: picking up stunts and games and things like that with Campbell,
- 1:49:59Speaker 5: which you expect for two guys that haven't played together
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: next to each other on the line before. I mean,
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: is he like game Changer is at Quentin Nelson and
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: like all of a sudden, your line just completely changed
- 1:50:08Speaker 5: because you sign this guy. Probably not, but I still
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: feel cautiously optimistic that you know, he's going to be
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: a better left guard than Jared Wilson, and Jared Wilson's
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: going to be at least as good as Bradbury at center,
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: and like you're, yeah, I think that's marginally approving there.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: I like Avt's mean face, Like I feel like the
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: rest of the line doesn't really have mean faces. Like
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: they all look like nice guys, you know. I mean,
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: Jared Wilson especially smile all day. We'll find out just
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: a little bit a little bit of when you but
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: I still but he's really like nice, and you know,
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: I got to know him.
- 1:50:37Speaker 8: He's really nice.
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: Morgan Moses, even though he's got kind of the Rick
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: Ross and going like he's still is just like our dad,
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: like we all love him, but you know, Vera Tucker's
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: just got that Like even today twenty years got a
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: little bit of in a logan Mankins. Well, by the way,
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: my sister ran into the logan Mankin's family up and yeah,
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: I said.
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: Something that I'm like looking for a little bit out
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: of Campbell, like, Okay, you're one, you get your feet wet,
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: You're just a rookie. You're not gonna lead necessarily right
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: out of the shoet. I think Drake May ran into
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: that problem a little bit too, but like the tone
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: needs to come from somebody in that room, and he's
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: the a hole, Like he's the guy that should be
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: able to set a tone and have a mean streak.
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: And I think they got some nice guys up there,
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: and I like them all and they're fun to talk
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: to and with the media. I would put Lomu in
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: this category two, Like I'd.
- 1:51:23Speaker 6: Like Lomo absolutelyell, like he's just such a nice kid.
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: Can you take him like alligator wrestling or something like
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: it's like you know you got I think that that's
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: I hope that that comes a little bit more from
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: Campbell this year, Like they need an.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: A hole on that, Uh, how they make the bulls
- 1:51:45Speaker 2: get mad? Yeah, do something like that to get him
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: pissed off.
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: With like like even when he's a really strong and
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: like powerful blocker, but he's not. He's not a finisher,
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: Like he's not he's not Mays like, you know, I
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: think they need a little bit of that age. I'm
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: hoping that Campbell like kind of grows into that now
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: that he's comfortable.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: Like, I like how you put it, because that's one
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: of the things that surprised me. I feel like that's
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: what kind of expected were able to put together an
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: offensive line and like just tough guys Like I don't know,
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: maybe that's stupid, but they might be, but they all
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: seem really nice.
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: I'm not saying that they're not tough. I'm just saying
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: that they're not nasty. Yeah, I need some next logan.
- 1:52:25Speaker 4: Could you look at his face and you could just tell,
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: like that guy's got a mean streak, you know, that's
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: like AVT like his I'm like, that guy's probably got
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: a streak.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Didn't we know?
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: Will does?
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: Didn't we notice last year even in this rookie season,
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: you know, Campbell playing right up to the whistle and
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: maybe a little beyond that times.
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: Yeah, sure, I mean at least preseason he knocked a
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: guy from Sonny's car wash ten everybody.
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: There was a couple of runs that he was he
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: was throwing some extra business.
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: Absolutely, you need to have Tim in California, says Christian
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: in La needs to take a time out for mis
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: pronouncing Gabe Acus his name. I bet he wouldn't do that.
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: I don't think he.
- 1:53:00Speaker 8: Person announced it to me neither.
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: No, he would not.
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: He would not do anything that was crazy though.
- 1:53:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think he mispronounced it. Let's just say it.
- 1:53:07Speaker 7: No, he did that.
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: Purson absolutely talk about the guy with Christian Sean Mack
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: from PA some ups and downs from the first preseason game.
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: Ups our preseason post game show was one hundred times
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: better than last year. The new host in Troy prevent
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: Paul from carrying the shows on his own.
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: Uh downs.
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: Whoever decides the idiot combination on the uniforms? Do the
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: Patriots listen to the fans? This blue on blue combo
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: is horrible. Just keep it blue and silver. Would be
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: nice to see a return of the Dynasty uniforms against
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: the Raiders for the twenty five year anniversary. Also, they
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: have not announced the throwback and rivalry game yet. Any
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: clue when that happens.
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: They have announced the rivalry game, but I think, yeah.
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: Don't Pizza. I got a lot of those comments in
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: the blog during the preseason. Why are they wearing the blueberries?
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: Real?
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: It's preseason? This is that's why preseason you wear your
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: worst uniforms.
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: Of the preseason.
- 1:54:15Speaker 9: You do?
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't, you don't. Why is that you don't
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: bring out your your top notch, you know, clothing for
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: the preseason? Yeah?
- 1:54:22Speaker 8: Yeah, Also when you bring out your actual uniform now.
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: Not necessarily you got four uniforms now.
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: The problem though, is that when they wear the blues
- 1:54:30Speaker 5: with the silver pants. I'm in agreement that that's a
- 1:54:32Speaker 5: better look, but the silver pants are the old pants.
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: They don't they don't match the new the new top,
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: so they need to We can't do this. You understand
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: what I'm saying, one hundred percent.
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: You can't. You can't do this.
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: No, they can't do this.
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: Like you can't, they can.
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: You can't be the only dynasty in NFL history to
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: not wear the uniforms you want at all when everybody's
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: got twenty seven different uniforms, and you're like, but let's
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: not wear the uniforms we won the six super bowls
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: in let's keep going with the Frankenstein.
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: What are you gonna do?
- 1:55:03Speaker 8: They change they have that they don't match.
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: They have this, they changed to the altar, to the
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: what their color rush? They changed them to the color rush,
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: and they're like, oh, they don't like the blue, let's
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: just bring back the great pants. They don't match.
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: The stripes don't match. They're like little pink stripe grms.
- 1:55:22Speaker 6: Amazing.
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: I'm passionate, but like, I just think this is a
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: brand thing. Like you won six super Bowl wearing an I.
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: Can understand why did you see the need to change
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: your uniforms that you had so much success? In that argument,
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: I completely understand this whole other thing about blue on blue.
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: We don't women that like.
- 1:55:40Speaker 6: Again, I'm with Fred, like grown men talking about uniform
- 1:55:43Speaker 6: combinations that they like, they don't like.
- 1:55:45Speaker 5: Who cares, That's not my problem. My problem is that
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: the blueberry jersey with the old silver pants you Frankenstein
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: together a uniform. It doesn't match.
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: It looks ridiculous.
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: It's like, fine, you don't you know, I'm not telling
- 1:55:59Speaker 6: you to get I don't.
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: But it's not like a light thing.
- 1:56:03Speaker 8: It's like, this is not just what is the match problem?
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: Like what is blue and blue and silver the red
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: stripe and the red and the white stripes don't match.
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: The stripes?
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: This is I will say, to show me this is
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: a right and wrong This is not and I'm going
- 1:56:21Speaker 5: to take you away for it.
- 1:56:22Speaker 8: I just like, I guess I just never looked that closer.
- 1:56:25Speaker 6: I mean to me, it's not like like those old
- 1:56:27Speaker 6: silver uniforms that we wore back in the day. They
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: just were terrible. You if they looked dirty, it was
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: a bad shirt. Like I never looked at it and
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: be like, just they don't match, Like I mean, I
- 1:56:38Speaker 6: don't know.
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: I just like, but if the stripe, if the stripe
- 1:56:41Speaker 2: configuration is different, and I guess you have a point,
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: it doesn't match. I never know.
- 1:56:45Speaker 6: That's what I That's what I'm saying. I'm not telling like,
- 1:56:48Speaker 6: haven't said this is a right and wrong thing.
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: I'll take your word for it. I just never know.
- 1:56:53Speaker 8: I don't care enough to notice.
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: The flopside for me, though, was the white on white
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: that they wore on the Super which I like because
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: they match and they looked and it's like a new look.
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: And I you know, I didn't even really care for
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: those new white uniform white jerseys they are, but I
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: think with the white and white it looks sharp.
- 1:57:06Speaker 7: I like it. I don't.
- 1:57:07Speaker 8: I don't love those. I don't love all white.
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: You're impossible.
- 1:57:11Speaker 8: I don't love all white.
- 1:57:12Speaker 6: But it's again, it's it's fine, like it's it's a uniform.
- 1:57:17Speaker 15: Like it's not it's it's it's twenty five twenty five
- 1:57:21Speaker 15: teams in the league just to me my impartial, like
- 1:57:26Speaker 15: they just have uniforms like whatever they wear.
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: Like there's a couple of teams. I'm like, oh, I
- 1:57:31Speaker 6: really like those uniforms, you know. You know the Chargers
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: are always when that gets all, you know, I think
- 1:57:36Speaker 6: they're a little overrated.
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: I agree if you think.
- 1:57:39Speaker 8: But I do like the powder I do.
- 1:57:42Speaker 6: I do like the powder blue uniforms. I like some
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: of the ones with that that Detroit wears, some of
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: their combinations. But like you know, people lose their minds
- 1:57:52Speaker 6: over like, oh, the traditional Steelers and Packers, like they're boring.
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: Is I just want to get past that match man.
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: I don't really like it's not even so much a matter.
- 1:58:03Speaker 8: Can we just bet they don't match?
- 1:58:05Speaker 6: This is?
- 1:58:06Speaker 5: This is minor league? Like, can we just get pants?
- 1:58:08Speaker 8: I would agree, I just I didn't know.
- 1:58:10Speaker 6: I'm with fred We're in the on the outside looking in, Freddy,
- 1:58:13Speaker 6: we got we gotta get with it now.
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: Now I hit my eyes off of it.
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: Look at those pants.
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: They don't mask, they don't match.
- 1:58:20Speaker 6: I might have to say during the show, during that
- 1:58:22Speaker 6: game the broadcast Saturday night, all right, why are they
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: in these you don't even match? How they don't match?
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: Crazy?
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: It really does.
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: That's it for this show. But tomorrow nine five, we
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: are going to be live for the joint practice with
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: the Eagles. When is Catch twenty two this week?
- 1:58:39Speaker 5: Three to five Tomorrow after practice three to we'll break
- 1:58:42Speaker 5: down practice.
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: Okay, so Barthy has going to carve out two hours
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why we started late, is because we both
- 1:58:50Speaker 5: have to write, and he's got got times. I want
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: pull Barth attention. I don't want like he's typing and
- 1:58:57Speaker 5: I'm hosting and.
- 1:58:58Speaker 8: He's gotta talk about eleven guys that I've never heard.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: It's like on his hits on the Sports Hub, ninety
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: five gets the best of you. I get the rest.
- 1:59:08Speaker 4: We know each other.
- 1:59:08Speaker 5: I'm sitting a little close to home.
- 1:59:10Speaker 8: Friends.
- 1:59:11Speaker 5: We know each other so well that you can tell.
- 1:59:15Speaker 5: I can tell when he's distracted because I know him
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: so well that like I can tell, and that annoys me.
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: So I'm like, let's just do it when you're one
- 1:59:22Speaker 5: hundred percent done, like when you can really do our show.
- 1:59:25Speaker 6: And not focus.
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: Alex focused.
- 1:59:28Speaker 8: So after his post Sports Hub cigarette he comes in. Now, Okay, yeah,
- 1:59:34Speaker 8: I'm ready.
- 1:59:35Speaker 7: What do you now?
- 1:59:37Speaker 8: You have my attention.
- 1:59:38Speaker 5: Listening to him yesterday with doing the names was actually pretty.
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: It was pretty funny. Yeah, that was a good bit.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: They made it. They turned it.
- 1:59:44Speaker 8: They turned it into a good bit. Well was going on.
- 1:59:46Speaker 8: It was not a good bit.
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: All right, We'll see you tomorrow.
- 1:59:49Speaker 7: Nine.
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: Hey, this is Duce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
