- 0:03Speaker 1: Joakim's gonna be with us in a second, but, uh,
- 0:05Speaker 1: what a weekend it has been. Welcome you to a
- 0:07Speaker 1: brand new week here. I cannot believe it's middle of
- 0:10Speaker 1: April already. Like time is seriously flying by. Where has
- 0:12Speaker 1: all the time gone? Um, we got tons happening this weekend,
- 0:16Speaker 1: by the way. So if you are from Singapore, Pauline.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And if you are from MGS, we will see you, uh,
- 0:23Speaker 1: more details in just a bit, but it's all within
- 0:25Speaker 1: this week. Lots of stuff going on. Um, there's a
- 0:28Speaker 1: car launch going on this week as well, many events.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I don't know what it is about the mid of April, but, um,
- 0:34Speaker 1: things are ramping up right now. So, if you have
- 0:37Speaker 1: us on your schedule for a school visit, we cannot
- 0:40Speaker 1: wait to see you, especially because Joakim and I, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: we usually, we usually go for the school visits that
- 0:45Speaker 1: are like after your school's out.
- 0:48Speaker 1: In the past, we used to sometimes come like before
- 0:52Speaker 1: your school starts, so it's the morning, early morning assembly, right?
- 0:55Speaker 1: And I know sometimes it's really difficult for anyone to
- 0:58Speaker 1: give us energy or life. So since then, I think
- 1:01Speaker 1: most schools now opt for like after school assemblies, which
- 1:04Speaker 1: makes so much more sense. So we cannot wait to
- 1:05Speaker 1: see you, MGS and SP two separate things, but we
- 1:09Speaker 1: shall be there in your school this week. Look,
- 1:12Speaker 2: there's so much to go through with you this month.
- 1:15Speaker 2: morning, we're talking Coachella weekend one.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I just need to, yeah, I have my thoughts about
- 1:20Speaker 1: that too.
- 1:21Speaker 2: All that's happening here in Singapore and also some celebrity
- 1:26Speaker 2: news from worldwide.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So one of my close friends is actually in attending
- 1:31Speaker 1: Coachella right now, um, as a normal person, like not
- 1:35Speaker 1: as a celebrity or influencer or anything. He's just a
- 1:38Speaker 1: normal dude, OK. He seems to be having a lot
- 1:40Speaker 1: of fun, but that being said,
- 1:42Speaker 1: Need to fill you in on the cost of things
- 1:45Speaker 1: at Coachella. And he, he lives in the US, by
- 1:48Speaker 1: the way, so he's already used the US dollars. But
- 1:51Speaker 1: what I'm seeing right now and the, the, the information
- 1:53Speaker 1: I'm getting not just from him, but on social media.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It's gonna break your bank to go for Coachella nowadays.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I mean, if you're seeing people like Cat's Eye, Sabrina Carpenter,
- 2:04Speaker 2: of all people, Justin Bieber pulling up YouTube. I wonder
- 2:08Speaker 2: what Wi Fi service he was using. Very strong. Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 2: I really wonder how much the ticket cost.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Not just the tickets, but even the drinks, the food, the,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know, the, the lodging, even to get a charger
- 2:21Speaker 1: for your phone, like they call this like a charging
- 2:23Speaker 1: locker or something. Apparently it's upwards of like $80 USD
- 2:26Speaker 1: to book a locker, you know, contemplating the cost of
- 2:29Speaker 1: going to Coachella at this point in time.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I mean, look, Coachella of the 2010s and maybe even
- 2:37Speaker 2: late or early 2020 before after COVID and all that.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It was one of the festivals to go to, but
- 2:44Speaker 2: for some strange reason, it's now becoming a festival that
- 2:47Speaker 2: people might want to avoid.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Because it's become influencer Olympics over there, but still, the musicians,
- 2:54Speaker 2: they boast for every year's lineup. It's amazing. And this
- 2:59Speaker 2: is where musicians really go times 1,000% for their set design,
- 3:04Speaker 2: their performances, and then you get the occasional Justin Bieber
- 3:08Speaker 2: where his set was just a table, YouTube, and he
- 3:11Speaker 2: actually used the
- 3:12Speaker 2: Oxchord to stream live.
- 3:14Speaker 1: He doesn't need anything. Honestly, he's Justin Bieber and he
- 3:17Speaker 1: hasn't performed like that for a very, very long time.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And loads of people were actually breaking down the meaning,
- 3:24Speaker 2: the symbolic meaning behind his performance, and they were saying
- 3:27Speaker 2: that maybe he's paying tribute to his YouTube days a
- 3:30Speaker 2: long time ago and that was actually what made Justin Bieber,
- 3:34Speaker 2: Justin Bieber.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And I think he's grown a lot in many ways
- 3:39Speaker 1: over the past few years, but we need to talk
- 3:42Speaker 1: about the actual cost of going to Coachella. Let's break
- 3:45Speaker 1: it down. If you're tuning in right now, you probably,
- 3:47Speaker 1: or you may have like aspirations or dreams or next
- 3:50Speaker 1: time I want to go to Coachella, right? Or at
- 3:52Speaker 1: some point, I would love to go. And I think
- 3:53Speaker 1: for us and my friends and I, we've always thought like, OK,
- 3:56Speaker 1: that's the ultimate festival we want to go to. However,
- 3:59Speaker 1: I think things have changed quite a lot over the
- 4:02Speaker 1: last 5 to 6 years or so.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Coachella 2026 is one of the most expensive festivals yet,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and here's the cost breakdown, OK? Um, if you want
- 4:12Speaker 1: to get preferred parking, for example,
- 4:15Speaker 1: It is $299 for the parking lot, and this is
- 4:18Speaker 1: in USD, by the way, not SGD.
- 4:20Speaker 2: If I'm driving an EV,
- 4:23Speaker 1: no choice. Um, for a cup of coffee, $17. OK,
- 4:29Speaker 1: the coffee better keep me awake for 3 days.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The
- 4:32Speaker 2: coffee beans better be freshly grown and grinded at Coachella.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Exactly
- 4:36Speaker 1: roasted there. Noodles that look like a fancy meat, but
- 4:40Speaker 1: I don't know what this is. It's $23.
- 4:43Speaker 1: OK, a burrito that you could get a solid one
- 4:46Speaker 1: at your Guzman Y Gomes here or wherever, $23. Fries
- 4:52Speaker 1: for $28 because they added, apparently they add caviar and
- 4:55Speaker 1: truffle on top, which do we really need that at
- 4:58Speaker 1: a festival?
- 4:58Speaker 2: OK, can I check the food is legit.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Like I don't know, so I don't know.
- 5:03Speaker 2: The
- 5:03Speaker 2: way it's served is the way it looks like in
- 5:05Speaker 2: the pictures because it could be a fire festival sort
- 5:08Speaker 2: of
- 5:08Speaker 2: situation.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Oh well, it looks like this, I guess these photos
- 5:10Speaker 1: were taken by a.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Festivalgoer. Um, if you want an ultra-premium weekend suite for
- 5:16Speaker 1: 10 of your friends, it's $70,000. You could seriously throw
- 5:21Speaker 1: yourself your own wedding with
- 5:22Speaker 2: 70,000
- 5:23Speaker 1: dollars.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I know it's a strange time where we're living in
- 5:28Speaker 2: sports and even now music festivals are being catered for
- 5:30Speaker 2: a certain demographic who can afford it. You're right.
- 5:32Speaker 1: No, I think there's been a lot of conversation over
- 5:35Speaker 1: like what the influencers, not all, not all, I'm saying some.
- 5:40Speaker 1: They are flexing, but they're just getting things for free almost.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And I think, uh, the organizers and brands need to
- 5:48Speaker 1: think carefully, I guess, about how they go about this
- 5:52Speaker 1: because the real people need to pay like a ton
- 5:54Speaker 1: of money for the festival experience. I think especially with
- 6:04Speaker 1: our Gen Z, right? Yeah. OK, well, speaking of festivals,
- 6:07Speaker 1: we do have one in Singapore very soon.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And we would love for you to be there. How
- 6:12Speaker 1: about some tickets to kick off your week? And
- 6:14Speaker 2: they're only $28 are very cheap.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yes, but we're giving it to you
- 6:17Speaker 2: for free. Yes. Well, loads of things happened over the weekend.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I want to say congratulations to my very good friend Cheryl.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and her husband John for their kid's 1
- 6:28Speaker 2: year old birthday party.
- 6:29Speaker 1: 00, that was what it was. I thought it was
- 6:32Speaker 1: just a random catch
- 6:32Speaker 1: up.
- 6:33Speaker 2: No, no, no. So when the kid turns
- 6:34Speaker 2: One, the adults just sit there and drink wine.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, right?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but your baby Jamie is so cute and can
- 6:44Speaker 2: I be honest with you, I didn't post this last
- 6:45Speaker 2: year because I didn't want my friend's baby's face on it, right.
- 6:49Speaker 2: But given how it's been a year already and I
- 6:50Speaker 2: think he looks a little bit different now as compared
- 6:52Speaker 2: to what he did one year ago, can. So the
- 6:55Speaker 2: very first time I held baby Jamie, I think he
- 6:58Speaker 2: was about what, maybe a few weeks old, like 3
- 7:01Speaker 2: or 4 weeks old.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I held him and the moment he was in my arms,
- 7:05Speaker 2: I cried.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Why? I cried, not, not like the like sad
- 7:11Speaker 2: tears,
- 7:11Speaker 1: but like
- 7:14Speaker 2: like oh and like precious tears like oh my God,
- 7:16Speaker 2: you precious thing, come here to Uncle Joe and I
- 7:21Speaker 2: cried for a while,
- 7:22Speaker 1: yeah. I am honestly terrified of babies. I, I'm scared
- 7:26Speaker 1: of holding them. I don't know, they just look so fragile.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And I just can't. Every time people are like, you
- 7:32Speaker 1: want to hold my baby, I'm like, no, it's OK.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It's fine. And also if you realize none of my close,
- 7:39Speaker 1: very close circle of friends have kids yet,
- 7:45Speaker 2: if you noticed?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Um, probably Tabitha's, Tabitha Nauser. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's
- 7:52Speaker 1: about it. Were you
- 7:53Speaker 2: having an anxiety attack?
- 7:54Speaker 1: No, you know what, Tabby, she, I mean, you may
- 7:57Speaker 1: recognize her as if you're tuning in right now, you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: she's a singer. She also, yeah, she also used to
- 8:02Speaker 1: be a DJ here actually on 987 quite a few
- 8:05Speaker 1: years ago. Um, she is like what I aspire to
- 8:08Speaker 1: be as a mom. She is super cool.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Um, she and her, her partner, Louis, they are like
- 8:14Speaker 1: the coolest parents ever. So I remember it was quite
- 8:18Speaker 1: early days after she gave birth and she started going
- 8:21Speaker 1: back to normal, you know, she's like, OK, I can
- 8:23Speaker 1: go for lunch now, I can meet you guys kind
- 8:24Speaker 1: of thing, right? So, um, she decided, she texted Ross
- 8:27Speaker 1: and I, Ross also ex-970J, you still know her.
- 8:30Speaker 1: She said, OK, let's go to PS Cafe at East
- 8:33Speaker 1: Coast Park because she lives near East Coast as well.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So we went there. Baby is still quite, you know,
- 8:39Speaker 1: young at this point, newborn at this point. OK, not,
- 8:41Speaker 1: not really newborn lah, still sitting up already at this point.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And she goes, OK, let's just like order and chill.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And I was like, do you need a baby chair?
- 8:48Speaker 1: Do you need anything, like, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: And she's like, no, she's fine. And she used like
- 8:52Speaker 1: the cushions to make a makeshift, um, like little couch
- 8:56Speaker 1: area for her baby, and she just put a baby there.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And she's like, no, she's fine now. It's OK, we
- 9:01Speaker 1: can talk. Where's the wine?
- 9:04Speaker 1: And we were just like, I was like, Tabby, I
- 9:07Speaker 1: wanna be you when I grow up. Seriously, I wanna
- 9:09Speaker 1: be you.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Well, hopefully your parents are as cool as people like
- 9:13Speaker 2: Sonia or Tabithauser. Give them a hug and a high
- 9:16Speaker 2: five and thank them for waking up early in the
- 9:18Speaker 2: morning to send you to
- 9:19Speaker 2: school.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Then thanks for waking up early to accompany people to school? Nobody, right? Nobody.
- 9:25Speaker 2: We thank ourselves.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I thank you, thank you, yes,
- 9:26Speaker 1: yes, this is how it works. When we come back,
- 9:28Speaker 1: we're gonna open up phone lines. This time around it's
- 9:31Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit different. Like we said, this week.
- 9:33Speaker 1: We've got 3 sets of tickets to go for cloud nine,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and this is the music festival you cannot miss.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It's happening on May 9th Arena and Expo. Tickets are
- 9:44Speaker 2: going for $28 but we know you enjoy the free
- 9:47Speaker 2: stuff here in Singapore. How about 4 tickets, absolutely free
- 9:51Speaker 2: courtesy of us here on 987. Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: so you can bring 3 friends with you. Why not, right?
- 9:55Speaker 1: And you save quite a bit of money, so I
- 9:56Speaker 1: think that's really valuable too. About to open up the
- 9:59Speaker 1: phone lines right now, 669-11987.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Bit of a twist this week because we have 3
- 10:05Speaker 1: sets of 4 tickets each to catch Media Corp Cloud nine.
- 10:10Speaker 2: So give
- 10:10Speaker 2: your school a shout out. Let us know which school
- 10:13Speaker 2: it is. Tell us what's so great about it and
- 10:15Speaker 2: maybe even tell us what's up for your life in
- 10:17Speaker 2: your school. And then just by doing that, you get
- 10:21Speaker 2: cloud nine
- 10:21Speaker 2: tickets.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And you know what, we have such an
- 10:24Speaker 1: amazing lineup for Cloud Nine this year, right?
- 10:26Speaker 1: It's a great lineup of acts, not just from the region,
- 10:28Speaker 1: but locally too. OK, let
- 10:29Speaker 2: me try. Why Lucas, Kiara, Ozzie, K Click, Mbahole, Max, 50/50.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I know I'm missing out too. Oh no. Oh no. Robert, Robert, yes,
- 10:42Speaker 2: and one more, one more, one more, 80 8, yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think that's about
- 10:44Speaker 2: it. Yeah, that's
- 10:45Speaker 1: about it for now. Yeah. We've got all the headliners
- 10:47Speaker 1: out already. Morning, night, it's Bianca.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Hello, good
- 10:51Speaker 1: morning. What school are you from? Raffles Girls Primary School. Alright,
- 10:55Speaker 1: big shout out. We haven't had an RG girl yet, actually.
- 10:58Speaker 1: This is the
- 10:58Speaker 2: first. Liang, how's life over there in Raffles Girls Primary?
- 11:02Speaker 1: Having fun? Yeah, it's fun. What's the, what's the best
- 11:06Speaker 1: part about your school that you want to flex about
- 11:07Speaker 1: on air right now? We have like a
- 11:09Speaker 1: nice field.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It's
- 11:09Speaker 1: like
- 11:09Speaker 2: quite big. And what level are you in this year?
- 11:11Speaker 2: Primary
- 11:12Speaker 1: 6.
- 11:14Speaker 2: big year for you. All the best. What was your
- 11:17Speaker 2: CCA then? Oh, I don't have
- 11:18Speaker 1: a
- 11:18Speaker 1: CCA this year,
- 11:19Speaker 2: but
- 11:19Speaker 1: last
- 11:19Speaker 2: year I was in
- 11:20Speaker 1: new media. Media club. Oh, maybe we'll see you here
- 11:23Speaker 1: very soon. We would love for you to come down
- 11:25Speaker 1: for a school visit perhaps, but first, Joy and I
- 11:27Speaker 1: would love to come down to RG. I mean, we've
- 11:29Speaker 1: not been to Raffles Schools Primary just yet. Maybe we
- 11:31Speaker 1: could in the future. But here today, we want to
- 11:34Speaker 1: give you 4 tickets to Media Corp's cloud now.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Happening 9th
- 11:42Speaker 2: We Arena and Expo is a Saturday. So bring your
- 11:44Speaker 2: friends or family members and enjoy 8Xs
- 11:48Speaker 2: for absolutely free of charge.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Love it. OK, Leo, what can we get you today
- 11:52Speaker 1: in terms of a song and a shout out? Can
- 11:54Speaker 1: I get spaghetti by the Serafin and a shout out
- 11:57Speaker 1: to my sisters. This next story, I'm not sure whether
- 12:00Speaker 1: it should fall under Bodo crime because
- 12:03Speaker 1: The crime was not successful at
- 12:05Speaker 1: all.
- 12:06Speaker 2: The intention was
- 12:07Speaker 1: intention was there, yeah, yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 2: We, we see the vision.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Should we still call it Bo crime?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Come,
- 12:13Speaker 1: let's go. Bordo crime, crime, crime, crime.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And where did this happen? The
- 12:19Speaker 1: suspicious streets of Simei. We haven't been to Simei yet actually.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Simei, Simei.
- 12:27Speaker 1: So, uh, just to clarify, this wasn't me, although I
- 12:30Speaker 1: feel like Joakim would think that I'm this kind of
- 12:33Speaker 1: robber if I were a robber. Let's go. I cannot wait.
- 12:36Speaker 1: This man allegedly tried to rob a money changer in
- 12:40Speaker 1: Simei with a handwritten note, OK, and not just any
- 12:45Speaker 1: handwritten note. I need to show you the, the handwritten
- 12:48Speaker 1: note right now.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It literally looks like a primary school project where we wrote,
- 12:53Speaker 1: give me all your SGD plus MYR plus USD. Quiet,
- 12:59Speaker 1: do not move. And it's in like bubble font. You
- 13:03Speaker 1: know what we used to do in primary school? That's
- 13:05Speaker 1: literally how
- 13:05Speaker 1: it looks like.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I've just seen the handwritten note picture. Sonia, I can
- 13:09Speaker 2: say this, yeah, if I were to ever work for
- 13:11Speaker 2: a crime syndicate, and if I were to rob a
- 13:14Speaker 2: money changer using a handwritten note, that would be how
- 13:17Speaker 2: it look
- 13:17Speaker 2: like it.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You know what, your handwriting is quite similar to this.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Thank you. But please, I have faith that you will
- 13:23Speaker 1: have better tactics as a robber.
- 13:25Speaker 2: OK, so what happened?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Well, he, of course, got arrested by the police. They
- 13:32Speaker 1: were alerted and by the way, this was like kind
- 13:34Speaker 1: of in broad daylight, like 4 p.m. kind of vibes.
- 13:37Speaker 1: The police were alerted to a case of.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Attempted robbery because the person at the cashier counter refused.
- 13:43Speaker 1: She just said, no, I'm not going to give you
- 13:45Speaker 1: the money, and to which she just ran off, right?
- 13:48Speaker 1: So preliminary investigations revealed that this handwritten note was used
- 13:52Speaker 1: to demand to hand over cash. Um, the men fled
- 13:55Speaker 1: shortly after, but the victim immediately called the cops. Um,
- 13:58Speaker 1: they did not suffer.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Any monetary loss, no injury, nothing. Um, but with the
- 14:02Speaker 1: aid of CCTV, of course, and police cameras, they immediately,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you know, they, they immediately established the identity of the man.
- 14:10Speaker 1: They caught him within 8 hours. Like, not even a
- 14:14Speaker 1: day went by and he got caught.
- 14:15Speaker 2: 58 year old man, Uncle, what were you
- 14:18Speaker 2: thinking?
- 14:19Speaker 1: Why? Why?
- 14:20Speaker 1: And that's the thing, was he very desperate? What was
- 14:22Speaker 1: going on? Now, we need to know what the intent was,
- 14:24Speaker 1: what the motive was. Was
- 14:26Speaker 2: he drunk or was he
- 14:27Speaker 1: tipsy? I think, I don't know, unlikely it was in
- 14:31Speaker 1: the day. How do we explain this? That's the thing.
- 14:34Speaker 1: It's very hard to explain, but um he'll be charged
- 14:36Speaker 1: in court today, actually, 13th of April. So I think.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Information will come up very soon, um, but this offense
- 14:43Speaker 1: of attempted robbery carries an imprisonment term of not less
- 14:47Speaker 1: than 2 years and not more than 7 years.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Let's just say, Sonia, you're the judge that's gonna hear
- 14:52Speaker 2: this case, right? And you're supposed to lift up the
- 14:54Speaker 2: evidence of the handwritten note. How, how not to laugh.
- 14:58Speaker 2: You
- 14:58Speaker 1: know, this would be a very helpful.
- 15:00Speaker 1: If the judge is very good at poker, like have
- 15:03Speaker 1: a poker face, you know, because you know me, I
- 15:05Speaker 1: have the worst poker face ever. Hey, so you're not
- 15:09Speaker 1: good at poker. No,
- 15:10Speaker 2: if I see a sign like that, I will laugh,
- 15:12Speaker 1: but you have to maintain professionalism for this kind
- 15:15Speaker 2: of boba. I cannot laugh. Bruno Mars, congratulations, he's debt-free.
- 15:22Speaker 2: He revealed at a concert that he's paid off his
- 15:24Speaker 2: casino debts a long time ago.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. No, you know why? I think it's, it's
- 15:28Speaker 1: also because once rumors like that come out and you know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: for him it was a fact, right? I guess he
- 15:33Speaker 1: acknowledged it. I'm so glad he took it in his
- 15:34Speaker 1: stride and actually addressed it because if not, people will
- 15:37Speaker 1: constantly speculate like what kind of debt he has.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And Bruno Mars.
- 15:42Speaker 2: There's a street named after him. Yeah, Park Avenue in
- 15:47Speaker 2: Las Vegas was officially renamed Bruno Mars Drive. Wow,
- 15:53Speaker 1: that's so cool.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I mean, in Singapore, there are streets named after some
- 15:58Speaker 1: famous people.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're all like dead. Yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 1: well, yes.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I mean, Bruno Mars is still alive.
- 16:06Speaker 1: We better check, you know, what if there are some
- 16:08Speaker 1: that are still alive? I'm not sure. I'm not sure. OK,
- 16:10Speaker 1: if you had a street named after you, would it
- 16:13Speaker 1: be called Joakim Drive, Joakim Street, Joakim Road, or what?
- 16:17Speaker 2: I mean, what
- 16:19Speaker 2: the name Joakim Gomez Road Road or Joakim Gomez Avenue.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Avenue, Avenue sounds quite nice.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Somewhere in Bishan. Oh,
- 16:25Speaker 1: OK, stop it.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Bishan doesn't need another street. Can you pick a new
- 16:30Speaker 1: place or not? OK. Joakim Gomez Street Avenue in Tonga.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Don't
- 16:38Speaker 2: be surprised if the next party you go to in Paris, Paris, France.
- 16:43Speaker 2: The DJ, if her name is Elizabetta Krivanogi,
- 16:49Speaker 1: wow, that's a really long DJ name. Hopefully
- 16:52Speaker 2: I said it correctly. Wait,
- 16:53Speaker 1: is that her stage name?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Could
- 16:54Speaker 1: be or her real
- 16:55Speaker 1: name,
- 16:55Speaker 2: or her fake name as well, OK, because she's the
- 16:58Speaker 2: daughter of someone.
- 17:00Speaker 1: She's the, well, aren't we all? I'm also a daughter
- 17:02Speaker 1: of someone. OK,
- 17:04Speaker 2: someone quite prominent
- 17:05Speaker 1: in the world. OK.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Take a guess again.
- 17:09Speaker 1: What's her name again? Can you repeat it one more time?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Elizabetta
- 17:12Speaker 2: Krivagi.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You're saying it right or not. I hope I'm not sure. OK, well,
- 17:17Speaker 1: sounds kind of Russian to me.
- 17:18Speaker 2: There we go.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Very famous Russian person. OK, well, let me guess. I'll
- 17:23Speaker 1: find out in just a bit. Think about
- 17:24Speaker 2: it. So the next time you're in Paris, if you
- 17:27Speaker 2: go to those clubs and you're partying and the DJ
- 17:31Speaker 2: is Elizaveta Krinogi.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I mean it's G I K H, right? So I'm
- 17:37Speaker 2: guessing the KH sound is
- 17:38Speaker 1: the maybe, maybe,
- 17:40Speaker 2: yeah. So the rumor is according to some intelligence reports,
- 17:45Speaker 2: this is the daughter of Vladimir Putin.
- 17:50Speaker 1: No,
- 17:51Speaker 1: really?
- 17:52Speaker 2: She's actually in Paris to pursue like her studies and stuff,
- 17:56Speaker 2: using a fake name.
- 17:57Speaker 2: And I think on the side, she could be a DJ.
- 17:59Speaker 2: She could be a DJ.
- 18:01Speaker 1: So why do people think that it's her? How did
- 18:03Speaker 1: they conclude that it's her because her name is
- 18:05Speaker 2: Russian? No, I mean this is a fake name, but
- 18:09Speaker 2: I guess maybe some intelligence reports, she has a tail
- 18:12Speaker 2: on her or whatsoever. You know, you know how it's
- 18:15Speaker 2: like in the West, right? The Cold War. I mean,
- 18:17Speaker 2: it's still, I'm, I'm very sure in my opinion it's
- 18:19Speaker 2: still ongoing.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Secretly spying on each other. OK, don't
- 18:22Speaker 1: anyhow say trying to
- 18:23Speaker 2: get some info on each other.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I didn't say it. Joe said it. Um, you know,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I think that's pretty cool that she's out there living
- 18:31Speaker 1: a normal life pursuing the stuff that she likes. But
- 18:33Speaker 1: I think to some extent, you know, those movies that
- 18:35Speaker 1: we watch where people in high places, right, they will
- 18:38Speaker 1: always send and make sure that the daughter or their
- 18:41Speaker 1: kids are well protected.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Bodyguards, they try to lead a normal life, but will
- 18:46Speaker 1: it ever really be normal if people really know that
- 18:48Speaker 1: you're related to someone so high profile? I find it
- 18:55Speaker 1: very strange. I find it cool too
- 18:56Speaker 1: actually
- 18:56Speaker 2: that it's Vladimir Putin's daughter who's the DJ for the
- 18:59Speaker 2: night.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I wonder what kind of music she likes, like house music,
- 19:03Speaker 1: you know, trance, deep house, what is it?
- 19:06Speaker 1: Probably hip hop. I don't know, it could be anything actually.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I think um France has a huge hip hop scene too,
- 19:12Speaker 1: like in terms of their own, in their own language,
- 19:15Speaker 1: in French. So they've got like a lot of different
- 19:18Speaker 1: types of clubs going on.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Hey, by the way, R&B, man. Yeah. This singer called Gim,
- 19:26Speaker 2: G H I M, he's very good. Oh,
- 19:29Speaker 1: they got, we got.
- 19:32Speaker 1: 87 Secret sound.
- 19:37Speaker 2: That
- 19:39Speaker 2: Good morning,
- 19:40Speaker 1: my cousin Joy
- 19:40Speaker 2: Sonia.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Hi, who's this? Yanni
- 19:44Speaker 2: here.
- 19:46Speaker 2: $8000. Are you excited? I am. I have been trying
- 19:50Speaker 2: so many
- 19:51Speaker 2: weeks.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Oh, you've been trying to call and you have an
- 19:54Speaker 1: answer in mind? Yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 2: which I think that nobody has given this answer. OK,
- 20:00Speaker 2: I hope
- 20:00Speaker 2: you are right.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I hope so too. We're rooting for you. Listen very carefully.
- 20:04Speaker 1: This is the sound you have to identify.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yanni, for $8000 what is 987's secret sound? Uh, I
- 20:13Speaker 2: think it's the sound of a peeler. You know, the
- 20:15Speaker 2: pillar peeling the
- 20:16Speaker 2: fruits? Oh,
- 20:17Speaker 1: the fruit peeler.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah, correct.
- 20:19Speaker 1: OK, let's find out if fruit peeler is the right answer.
- 20:24Speaker 1: You are
- 20:25Speaker 2: incorrect. Your chance to play 987's secret sound continues.
- 20:32Speaker 2: St.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yanni, it is a fresh guess, but unfortunately not the
- 20:37Speaker 2: answer we're looking for. So sorry.
- 20:41Speaker 1: It's OK, we'll
- 20:41Speaker 2: try again.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yes, please do. I mean, I can kind of see
- 20:44Speaker 1: the vision though. I get why you thought it was
- 20:45Speaker 1: a fruit peeler. OK, try again
- 20:48Speaker 2: next time, Yanni.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:52Speaker 2: One guess win big.
- 20:56Speaker 2: What's that sound?
- 20:58Speaker 1: 7.
- 20:59Speaker 1: About to open up phone lines right now. In exchange
- 21:01Speaker 1: this week, we've got actually a really exciting movie premiere
- 21:04Speaker 1: that we want you at. It's our
- 21:06Speaker 2: 987 movie night, and we're giving you tickets to Michael,
- 21:10Speaker 2: the biopic movie I Cannot wait, directed by Antoine Fuqua,
- 21:15Speaker 2: starring Michael Jackson's nephew, Jaafar Jackson in his debut acting
- 21:20Speaker 2: performance. No,
- 21:22Speaker 1: Jaafar. Yeah, I can't imagine the amount of training and
- 21:25Speaker 1: prep needed for this.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And I'm sure he watched every single video, every single
- 21:32Speaker 1: documentation of Michael Jackson to get the moves and the,
- 21:35Speaker 1: the facial expressions and the voice right.
- 21:37Speaker 2: And given how there are so many Michael Jackson impersonators
- 21:40Speaker 2: worldwide who are hoping for a chance at this role,
- 21:42Speaker 2: it went to Jaafar. Jaafar, all the best, but from
- 21:44Speaker 2: the trailer itself, it looks
- 21:46Speaker 1: good, promising. It looks good. But, um, of course, we
- 21:48Speaker 1: always want to open up lines to get your thoughts, opinions, and,
- 21:51Speaker 1: you know, your stories as well. So as you know, um,
- 21:54Speaker 1: it's been a long-standing rule that most restaurants that they don't.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Allow outside food and drinks, right?
- 21:58Speaker 2: Not just that, even hawkers as well. It's now become
- 22:01Speaker 2: a classic Singaporean saying no outside food and drink allowed
- 22:03Speaker 2: at
- 22:05Speaker 1: the hawker center. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 2: you
- 22:07Speaker 2: must buy from the drink store. They don't let you
- 22:09Speaker 2: bring in your own, like, I don't know, OK, but
- 22:12Speaker 2: if they really want to enforce it. OK,
- 22:14Speaker 1: hawker center, I think not so much. I don't think
- 22:16Speaker 1: I've seen that as often as like restaurants or maybe
- 22:19Speaker 1: food courts that, you know, a bit more enclosed. Perhaps, perhaps, um,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but here's the thing, right, I have a question for you.
- 22:26Speaker 1: When they say that, what constitutes to outside food and drinks?
- 22:32Speaker 2: You bring in a bottle of Coke Zero, OK, OK,
- 22:36Speaker 2: that you bought it from somewhere else and you bring
- 22:37Speaker 2: it there, but that same place sells Coke
- 22:39Speaker 1: Zero. All
- 22:40Speaker 2: the more they'll be like, excuse me, please buy from us.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Don't drink from outside.
- 22:43Speaker 1: We get that, especially if it's alcoholic drinks or you know, beer,
- 22:46Speaker 1: that kind of stuff, right? They they sell it, yeah, OK,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I understand that. Um, however, there was this case recently,
- 22:51Speaker 1: a family went to a restaurant and they, they claim,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and they actually had receipts, a literal receipt of it,
- 22:58Speaker 1: that they were charged $2.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Because their kid consumed an outside drink. It was actually
- 23:06Speaker 1: their own water bottle, like the children's water bottle. No, exactly. So,
- 23:11Speaker 1: now this is where the line is a bit blurred, right,
- 23:12Speaker 1: because the restaurants defending themselves saying, see, we already said
- 23:15Speaker 1: that the sign says no outside food and drink, so cannot.
- 23:18Speaker 1: That being said, I've, I have my own reusable water bottle,
- 23:21Speaker 1: you know that, like my own, you know, Stanley Cup vibes, right? Yeah, OK,
- 23:23Speaker 1: like who doesn't have that nowadays? So sometimes I go
- 23:26Speaker 1: for like a Pilates class or what, I may be
- 23:28Speaker 1: meeting my friends for lunch after and I have my
- 23:31Speaker 1: canister of water. Usually the restaurant doesn't say anything, to
- 23:34Speaker 1: be honest. They don't even.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So we go to a restaurant, restaurant. I will not
- 23:38Speaker 1: make a big show of drinking out of it, you know,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I think that's the only thing, but so far no
- 23:44Speaker 1: one has really said anything. They even sometimes offer to
- 23:46Speaker 1: top up my, my bottle and
- 23:48Speaker 2: knowing you, you, you order your own coffee,
- 23:51Speaker 1: of course,
- 23:51Speaker 2: yeah, of course. So I think that's alright because when
- 23:53Speaker 2: it comes to kids, I think can close one eye, right?
- 23:57Speaker 1: I was thinking so too. I mean it's just from
- 23:59Speaker 1: their own water bottle like it almost seems a little
- 24:03Speaker 1: bit excessive.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Um, but the restaurants say, you know what, we have
- 24:06Speaker 1: a very strict no outside food and drinks policy. However,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I think, um, the, the, the, the establishment has had
- 24:15Speaker 1: to respond to some reporters coming in asking them about
- 24:18Speaker 1: this already.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Um, but hey, you know what, now it's a he said,
- 24:21Speaker 1: she said kind of moment. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 2: Michelin's not.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I mean, it's like, I think it's like a shop
- 24:27Speaker 1: or something, so yeah, but you can imagine the surprise
- 24:31Speaker 1: when you see the extra charge of $2 for outside drinks,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and um I think the parents were not very happy
- 24:37Speaker 1: about it. So let's just see where this goes. Um,
- 24:40Speaker 1: they're claiming that it's very unreasonable and unexpected, which I
- 24:44Speaker 1: am not.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I mean, I, I kind of agree. I kind of agree.
- 24:48Speaker 2: So
- 24:56Speaker 2: what would you do?
- 24:57Speaker 1: Actually I think you,
- 24:58Speaker 2: you refund or give them a free meal or something
- 25:01Speaker 2: like that, come back, we're so sorry
- 25:02Speaker 2: for this.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I won't do that I guess people might, people might
- 25:06Speaker 1: make use of that to like, you know, cheat the
- 25:09Speaker 1: system as well and you know, a free meal, right?
- 25:12Speaker 1: But I think they need to relook at the boundaries
- 25:14Speaker 1: because sometimes certain things can close one eye, right? I
- 25:17Speaker 1: feel like when it comes to F&B, the places that
- 25:19Speaker 1: I tend to go to more, it's not just whether
- 25:22Speaker 1: the food is good, it's if the service staff are
- 25:25Speaker 1: accommodating and kind and nice, it makes you feel like
- 25:27Speaker 1: going back, you know. Chances are this family is not
- 25:29Speaker 1: going to go back to this shop, for sure, right? Yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 25:33Speaker 2: $2 for food and drinks.
- 25:35Speaker 1: But to be clear, I don't agree with people bringing
- 25:38Speaker 1: outside food and drinks. It's just
- 25:39Speaker 1: That if these kids were sipping from their own water bottle,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I don't think that should be considered like, oh, outside
- 25:44Speaker 1: food outside drinks charge $2
- 25:46Speaker 2: kids with their own water bottles
- 25:48Speaker 2: and all that.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Come on, la, that's a bit much, right? We want
- 25:51Speaker 1: to open up phone lines, OK. 669-11987, or you can
- 25:55Speaker 1: drop us a WhatsApp message 90050987. Do you feel like
- 26:00Speaker 1: this was warranted? And do you feel like sipping on
- 26:02Speaker 1: your own water from your own reusable water bottle?
- 26:06Speaker 1: Is considered an outside drink.
- 26:08Speaker 2: OK, my take as an adult, I won't do it
- 26:11Speaker 2: just in case you find trouble, but I'll buy my
- 26:13Speaker 2: own drink from there. But
- 26:15Speaker 1: let us know. Let us know. Let us know. I mean,
- 26:18Speaker 1: there could be many ways of seeing this, especially if
- 26:21Speaker 1: you are an F&B owner. We'd love to hear from
- 26:23Speaker 1: you as well, OK? 669-11987 or drop us a WhatsApp message.
- 26:27Speaker 1: In exchange, we've got a pair of tickets for you.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yes, for 987 movie night, please keep 21st of April
- 26:34Speaker 1: free. Yeah, we'll be there as well, Joakim and I.
- 26:37Speaker 1: We're chatting about what constitutes to outside food and drinks
- 26:41Speaker 1: over at restaurants. Like, are there certain boundaries, certain things
- 26:45Speaker 1: that they can close one eye to based off a
- 26:47Speaker 1: recent incident that made the news. Yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 2: so a family actually brought their kids to a restaurant.
- 26:53Speaker 2: And they were charged $2 because their kids were drinking
- 26:57Speaker 2: water from their own bottle. That's according to their parents. Ah,
- 27:00Speaker 2: can I throw in a spell that? According to the restaurant,
- 27:06Speaker 1: oh, now the restaurant had a say.
- 27:08Speaker 2: The
- 27:08Speaker 2: spokesperson told a press outlet here in Singapore that the
- 27:12Speaker 2: family brought a big bottle of mineral water.
- 27:17Speaker 1: That changes things a
- 27:18Speaker 2: bit to me. Yes, this changes things.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Hold on,
- 27:22Speaker 2: hold on. If you tell me they're sipping from Mickey
- 27:24Speaker 2: Mouse water bottle, I say.
- 27:26Speaker 1: OK, but then now I have a question. OK. So
- 27:28Speaker 1: I have walked into a restaurant with a mineral water
- 27:30Speaker 1: bottle before because I came from an event or something,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and um what I might do is I might say,
- 27:37Speaker 1: are you OK if I just drink from it because
- 27:39Speaker 1: it's just water and sometimes.
- 27:41Speaker 1: certain restaurants, if you don't buy their, um, bottles of water,
- 27:44Speaker 1: they will just serve you tap water, right? So, usually
- 27:47Speaker 1: the restaurants are OK with it because it's not any
- 27:49Speaker 1: other beverage. Like I'm not drinking like coconut water or
- 27:51Speaker 1: like a beer or like a bottle of wine, you know,
- 27:54Speaker 1: obviously they'll charge you corkage for that. Um, so some
- 27:56Speaker 1: restaurants actually are like, yeah, OK, sure, like as long
- 27:58Speaker 1: as you, you know, just pour it into your glass,
- 28:00Speaker 1: you can drink it. So, my question is, did the
- 28:03Speaker 1: restaurant manager
- 28:05Speaker 1: First, tell the family that, hey guys, do you mind
- 28:08Speaker 1: if you don't drink from your own? Did they do
- 28:10Speaker 1: that first? Did they tell them don't drink it? Exactly.
- 28:17Speaker 1: So that's why they were surprised to see the $2
- 28:20Speaker 1: additional
- 28:21Speaker 1: charge.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Well, we are debating if I'm the owner, right, and
- 28:24Speaker 2: I'm looking at the receipt of order, they ordered tiger
- 28:27Speaker 2: beer OK.
- 28:29Speaker 2: If they order tiger beer and the whole family is
- 28:31Speaker 2: drinking and the kids are drinking the mineral water,
- 28:35Speaker 2: OK, that's what
- 28:36Speaker 1: I mean. But then we also want, we don't wanna
- 28:38Speaker 1: like impose our views on F&B owners. Like we get it.
- 28:42Speaker 1: It's a tough time for F&B as well, so we're
- 28:44Speaker 1: gonna hit to our WhatsApp messages first to see what
- 28:46Speaker 1: you are
- 28:47Speaker 1: saying.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I say hello to Joshua. Joshua saying restaurant charging children
- 28:52Speaker 2: bringing their own water bottle, and he actually keyed it
- 28:55Speaker 2: in to check GPT.
- 28:57Speaker 2: And he copies and pastes the entire answer, which I,
- 28:59Speaker 2: which I won't read because it's very long, but long
- 29:02Speaker 2: story short, even AI knows that it shouldn't be like
- 29:05Speaker 2: this.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I see, I see, I see. Um, I think we've
- 29:08Speaker 1: got more messages as well. I don't think we have
- 29:13Speaker 1: your name over here actually.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Oh, Chen, Chen has dropped us a message. I totally
- 29:19Speaker 1: agree with you on this topic. It should be agreed
- 29:21Speaker 1: that plain water is not always considered outside drinks. If
- 29:25Speaker 1: you take a look from another point of view, let's
- 29:27Speaker 1: say toddlers, infants, kids, how are you going to resolve it?
- 29:30Speaker 1: Does the food paste provide milk formula? OK, I think
- 29:34Speaker 1: this one is a little bit interesting, but you might
- 29:36Speaker 1: have to bring your own warm water with you, right?
- 29:38Speaker 1: I've seen people do that as well. They have to
- 29:39Speaker 1: mix their own formula.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I really hope there isn't a case where the restaurant
- 29:43Speaker 2: or a hawker.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Angry with the mom for feeding her.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I don't think soula milk. I hope not. Um, well,
- 29:49Speaker 1: he continues to say, um, sometimes considerations should come in
- 29:53Speaker 1: for elderly. What if they need to take meds with
- 29:55Speaker 1: water or an emergency? They may have their own water
- 29:57Speaker 1: bottles too. So you have a point there actually. You
- 30:00Speaker 1: do have a point. My parents bring their own water
- 30:02Speaker 1: bottle everywhere, to be honest, they do.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Your calls and texts coming in once again over at
- 30:07Speaker 2: 669-11987 or WhatsApp us at 90050987. Yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 1: the question is,
- 30:14Speaker 1: What constitutes the outside food and drinks at a restaurant?
- 30:17Speaker 1: Does water also, you know, is that included as well?
- 30:21Speaker 1: In exchange, we would love to give you a pair
- 30:22Speaker 1: of tickets to catch Michael. You might be the first
- 30:24Speaker 1: few in Singapore to catch it, by the way. OK,
- 30:26Speaker 1: bunch of messages and opinions just came through. Our question
- 30:31Speaker 1: today is, what constitutes outside food and drinks for F&B establishments? OK,
- 30:36Speaker 1: we just want to get your opinion on this.
- 30:38Speaker 2: So, long
- 30:39Speaker 2: story short, family of 4 brought their kids to go Makan,
- 30:42Speaker 2: or rather I think family of 10.
- 30:45Speaker 2: 10 there were
- 30:45Speaker 2: 10 people. Were there 10
- 30:46Speaker 1: people? Oh I didn't quite see that article.
- 30:49Speaker 2: If I'm not reading,
- 30:50Speaker 1: a different one.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Now you got me scared. I better check.
- 30:54Speaker 1: OK, anyway,
- 30:54Speaker 2: continue. Sorry, family of 5, the children were 5 and 10. My,
- 30:59Speaker 2: my apologies.
- 30:59Speaker 1: That's why I was like family of
- 31:00Speaker 2: 10. So many numbers. OK, so you would think that yes,
- 31:04Speaker 2: the children would have been drinking from their own water bottle,
- 31:07Speaker 2: but they were still charged $2 for outside food and
- 31:09Speaker 2: drinks because the restaurant said.
- 31:12Speaker 2: They brought a bottle of mineral water and they were
- 31:16Speaker 2: drinking from the restaurant bowl, bowl, yeah, they pour
- 31:19Speaker 2: and then drink
- 31:20Speaker 1: more and more information coming in.
- 31:23Speaker 2: So it's quite interesting because, OK, I feel like the
- 31:26Speaker 2: mineral water bottle changes a few things because the restaurant
- 31:30Speaker 2: will indeed sell mineral water and if I see that
- 31:33Speaker 2: kid drinking like ice mountain, excuse me, can you not
- 31:36Speaker 2: drink your own?
- 31:37Speaker 1: That's
- 31:38Speaker 1: why I said earlier, like if they had gone up
- 31:40Speaker 1: to them and told them during when they saw that happening,
- 31:43Speaker 1: but apparently they didn't, right? The staff didn't tell them
- 31:46Speaker 1: and they just um put the extra the outside drinks
- 31:49Speaker 1: charge on the receipt.
- 31:50Speaker 2: OK, we've got a lengthy one coming in from Sha
- 31:54Speaker 2: Shah says morning, Sonia and Joakim.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Honestly, I am very strongly siding with the restaurant on
- 32:00Speaker 2: this one. Just to recap, apparently they brought a big
- 32:03Speaker 2: bottle of mineral water. From a business perspective, F&B already
- 32:06Speaker 2: operates in a very tight margin, and beverages are one
- 32:09Speaker 2: of the few areas where they can maintain decent profitability.
- 32:12Speaker 2: If customers start bringing in their own drinks, even
- 32:15Speaker 2: Something as simple as bottled water, it directly eats into
- 32:19Speaker 2: that revenue and affects overall sustainability. This is also why
- 32:23Speaker 2: bottled water or any soft drinks in restaurants are priced
- 32:26Speaker 2: higher than what you see in supermarkets or convenience stores.
- 32:29Speaker 2: It's part of how they recover operating costs and stay viable.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't disagree actually. I don't disagree.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I think it's more of um how they handled the situation. Maybe.
- 32:40Speaker 1: If they had gone up to the family and told them,
- 32:42Speaker 1: and I think, you know what, we still need to
- 32:44Speaker 1: know more info that will come in very soon, but
- 32:46Speaker 1: I want to know if the staff members went up
- 32:48Speaker 1: to the family and say, hey guys, you can't drink
- 32:51Speaker 1: this year. If you do, I have to charge you $2.
- 32:53Speaker 1: If they had told me that, you know, and then
- 32:55Speaker 1: it appears on.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Receipt, then I won't be surprised,
- 32:57Speaker 2: right?
- 32:57Speaker 1: One
- 32:57Speaker 2: coming in from username lollipop. Good morning. I think I
- 33:01Speaker 2: know why the restaurant charged $2. Those Cantonese dim sum
- 33:05Speaker 2: restaurants also charge tea water to every person. It doesn't
- 33:10Speaker 2: matter whether you drink tea or water, it's a standard
- 33:12Speaker 2: charge per pack. So maybe the restaurant also has such
- 33:15Speaker 2: a practice.
- 33:16Speaker 2: So we should be understanding. Thanks and have a great day.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, very balanced views here today. Talking about what
- 33:22Speaker 1: constitutes to outside food and drinks at F&B and restaurant establishments.
- 33:28Speaker 1: So heading back to our messages for now, got a
- 33:30Speaker 1: couple of funny ones coming through.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I
- 33:32Speaker 2: say good morning to who's on board the MRT right now.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Hopefully having a safe trip, my friend. I think that's
- 33:37Speaker 2: absurd considering it was only water in terms of the
- 33:41Speaker 2: family having to pay for outside food and drink.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Besides, in my honest opinion, it's petty to be charging
- 33:46Speaker 2: for outside beverages anyway. Oh, controversial statement. In China, you
- 33:51Speaker 2: can order bubble tea and the delivery rider will walk
- 33:54Speaker 2: into your restaurant and pass you your order. Really? It
- 33:57Speaker 2: would be great to see Singapore learn to be more
- 34:00Speaker 2: open like that. This one, I don't think it will happen.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I think in Thailand and China.
- 34:06Speaker 1: is a bit more OK. They don't mind closing one eye,
- 34:09Speaker 1: but I don't think that will ever happen
- 34:11Speaker 2: here in Singapore lah.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the logic is overseas. They don't,
- 34:15Speaker 1: they're OK with it.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Are they OK with it? Why are they OK with it?
- 34:19Speaker 2: They're in a thriving F&B culture, whereas here in Singapore,
- 34:23Speaker 2: most places are fighting to stay alive, so they got
- 34:26Speaker 2: to make every single buck they can make, man.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I'm just trying to see the logic behind it because,
- 34:31Speaker 1: you know, um, maybe due to the fact that overseas,
- 34:35Speaker 1: some of the F&B establishment, maybe they are like, like friends,
- 34:38Speaker 1: you know, they team, team up together kind of thing
- 34:40Speaker 1: and they don't mind. I know certain places like for example,
- 34:43Speaker 1: in East Coast, right, um, there is this wine shop.
- 34:46Speaker 1: I love going there.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Um, they actually collaborate with the tuta shop next door,
- 34:51Speaker 1: so they've known each other for a while, I think.
- 34:53Speaker 1: So they actually let you order the tuta and eat
- 34:55Speaker 1: at the wine shop.
- 34:56Speaker 2: So the XO is from the wine shop they only
- 34:57Speaker 2: sell wine, not
- 34:58Speaker 1: XO, but you know what I mean, right? So, and
- 35:02Speaker 1: it helps both of them. That's the thing. It's not like, oh,
- 35:05Speaker 1: cannot outside food. And you know what, the wine shop
- 35:07Speaker 1: has their own menu. They have their own food, but
- 35:09Speaker 1: yet they allow you to order from the susa shop
- 35:11Speaker 1: and eat at the wine shop.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Wine and
- 35:14Speaker 1: it's very good.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You got.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You've never had before, I will try it one
- 35:17Speaker 1: day. I do it all the time. It's really good.
- 35:19Speaker 1: The
- 35:19Speaker 2: most is tiger beer. Want to say good morning to Myer.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Myrr says, Hey guys, water is essential. It's OK to
- 35:25Speaker 2: bring your own water if you inform the restaurant. If
- 35:28Speaker 2: they don't allow, then you have to order from the restaurant.
- 35:30Speaker 2: So it's best to check with the restaurant first before
- 35:33Speaker 2: patronizing the eatery.
- 35:34Speaker 1: So
- 35:34Speaker 1: you think that this is down to a communication issue
- 35:37Speaker 1: as well? Should have been like, yeah, they should have
- 35:39Speaker 1: just communicated from the beginning, like, hey guys, sorry, my
- 35:42Speaker 1: kids have this water bottle. Is it OK?
- 35:43Speaker 1: If they drink from this bottle, again,
- 35:45Speaker 2: I'm of the stand where if they brought it in
- 35:47Speaker 2: like the Mickey Mouse water bottle or tumbler or what, yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 2: I know, kids, let them be. Hold on, hold on.
- 35:52Speaker 2: But if the mom and dad take out one big
- 35:54Speaker 2: ice mountain mineral water, whatever brand they use,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I got
- 35:57Speaker 1: a question for you. Let's go. What if I put
- 36:00Speaker 1: Coke Zero in my Mickey Mouse bottle
- 36:02Speaker 2: say that.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Then how? I knew
- 36:03Speaker 2: you would say that.
- 36:04Speaker 1: See, this is another problem altogether.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I'm
- 36:06Speaker 2: surprised you said Coke and not whiskey or, you know, tequila.
- 36:09Speaker 1: It's not even 9 a.m.
- 36:12Speaker 1: OK, I'm, I'm trying to be a responsible adult here.
- 36:15Speaker 2: So the next time I see you at 9 a.m.
- 36:17Speaker 2: water bottle.
- 36:19Speaker 1: 987, Singapore's number one hit music station. Thank you for
- 36:22Speaker 1: joining us. OK, we're down to our last couple of
- 36:24Speaker 1: messages before we, uh, reveal today's winner.
- 36:27Speaker 1: And the question today is, what constitutes to outside food
- 36:31Speaker 1: and drinks, all based off this incident where a family
- 36:34Speaker 1: has taken to social media to complain. I
- 36:36Speaker 2: Want to say good
- 36:36Speaker 2: morning to Eileen. Years ago, my friend and I dined
- 36:39Speaker 2: in a restaurant with a mandatory $2 per head for
- 36:42Speaker 2: free flow soft drinks. My friend informed the restaurant she
- 36:45Speaker 2: was a diabetic and asked if they could give her
- 36:47Speaker 2: mineral water. The restaurant immediately waived the $2 charge for
- 36:52Speaker 2: her and served her ice water.
- 36:54Speaker 2: For free throughout the meal. Sometimes a little gesture goes
- 36:56Speaker 2: a very long way. Where is this restaurant? I want
- 36:59Speaker 2: to go? Well
- 37:00Speaker 1: done. You see, you know, you're right when you say
- 37:02Speaker 1: that sometimes it's really just about a bit of flexibility
- 37:06Speaker 1: and communication.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. One more coming in from SQ who says, Hey,
- 37:10Speaker 2: Sonia and Joakim, I would say it is normal for
- 37:12Speaker 2: restaurants or food places to charge additional charge for consuming
- 37:16Speaker 2: outside food and drinks. However, the restaurant staff should inform
- 37:19Speaker 2: them and give them a.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Heads up before keying into the bill as it is
- 37:23Speaker 2: not fair to the to the consumer. Also, restaurants are
- 37:26Speaker 2: not doing easy. Hence, we should show some respect to
- 37:29Speaker 2: restaurant staff and not consume outside food
- 37:31Speaker 2: and drinks.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I want to have faith and I want to say
- 37:33Speaker 1: that if they had told them from the get-go, like,
- 37:36Speaker 1: hey guys, you can't do this, then hopefully they would
- 37:38Speaker 1: have just kept the water, you know what I mean? Like,
- 37:40Speaker 1: but I guess it's up in the air, right? Like,
- 37:42Speaker 1: did they have this conversation or did they
- 37:44Speaker 1: not?
- 37:44Speaker 2: Again, I'm of the view where if it's
- 37:46Speaker 2: Uh, really a legit tumbler or water bottle, fine, go
- 37:50Speaker 2: for it. But if they take out the
- 37:52Speaker 2: big mineral water
- 37:53Speaker 1: and if it's something that the restaurant sells, then maybe
- 37:55Speaker 1: that's not allowed. Yeah. OK, when we come back, one
- 37:58Speaker 1: person's walking away with a pair of tickets to be
- 38:00Speaker 1: the first in Singapore to catch Michael in cinemas. OK,
- 38:03Speaker 1: one person's walking away with a pair of tickets. Now
- 38:05Speaker 1: all this week we're giving out tickets to be, make
- 38:07Speaker 1: sure that you're the first in Singapore to catch Michael
- 38:09Speaker 1: in cinemas. Yes.
- 38:14Speaker 1: We have high expectations. I'm very sure. I think everyone,
- 38:17Speaker 1: everyone does.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I think for today's winner, let's give it to Waita
- 38:20Speaker 2: who texted us earlier. Wait, congratulations.
- 38:23Speaker 1: See you at 987's movie night that's happening in a
- 38:25Speaker 1: week's time.
- 38:27Speaker 2: 21st of April. Make sure you keep it free. We'll
- 38:30Speaker 2: see you there at Lido, by the way, Lido Shore,
- 38:34Speaker 2: and look, I cannot wait, directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring
- 38:38Speaker 2: Michael Jackson's nephew himself, Jaafar Jackson, in his first acting role,
- 38:42Speaker 2: and he's playing his uncle.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I can't imagine the amount of pressure that was on
- 38:46Speaker 1: him for this role, to be honest, but enjoy yourself,
- 38:48Speaker 1: and in just a couple of minutes we're inviting two.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Really iconic people to join us on air. Yes,
- 38:54Speaker 2: find
- 38:54Speaker 2: out who they are in just a while here on
- 38:56Speaker 2: the show as well as on 987 TikTok. We're going
- 38:59Speaker 2: live very soon. But again, if, if you've been to
- 39:03Speaker 2: Hilton Orchard, you've definitely seen the restaurant Osteria Mozza. If
- 39:08Speaker 2: you haven't seen it, you'll definitely smell it as well.
- 39:11Speaker 2: The pizzas and the pastas there are fantastic.
- 39:13Speaker 1: But of course they, they, they're really big in other
- 39:16Speaker 1: countries too, you know, um, originally, and you might have spotted.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Her cameo on Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer, which I love.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Do you watch Lincoln Lawyer?
- 39:25Speaker 2: It's such
- 39:25Speaker 2: a good show.
- 39:26Speaker 2: It's such a good,
- 39:27Speaker 1: you have to watch it or maybe even seen Mozza
- 39:30Speaker 1: featured in other rom-com series. Nobody wants this, for example.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I think you've, you also never watched
- 39:35Speaker 2: rom-com. OK, fine. Those two
- 39:37Speaker 2: words
- 39:38Speaker 1: you have to, it's so good. It's so witty and cool.
- 39:41Speaker 1: So coming up in just a bit, Michelin stars.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Chef and multiple James Beard Award winner and TV icon
- 39:46Speaker 1: as well. Nancy Silverton will be joining us in just
- 39:49Speaker 1: a little bit, but also Matza Group's culinary director Liz
- 39:53Speaker 1: Hong will be here too. So
- 39:54Speaker 2: as always, I love glazing our guests up when we
- 39:57Speaker 2: introduce them. So I cannot wait to read out Chef
- 39:59Speaker 2: Nancy Silverton's entire
- 40:01Speaker 1: resume. I don't know if we got time to read
- 40:03Speaker 1: everything out. We might need 2 working days.
