- 0:09Speaker 1: ESPN dot com is where you read Jeff's Broncos coverage.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Jeff Broncos impressive into twenty seven seven victory over the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons. Sean Payton keeps his preseason win streak rolling
- 0:22Speaker 1: as you had a chance to break it down looking
- 0:25Speaker 1: at the tape as only you can. Who jumped off
- 0:28Speaker 1: the screen at you in preseason game number one.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Well, it's hard for me to pass on or gloss
- 0:35Speaker 3: over the defense really. I mean when it was the
- 0:40Speaker 3: brief time that was starters on starters that the Broncos
- 0:43Speaker 3: defense showed what kind of teeth they could have this season,
- 0:50Speaker 3: it really struck me. There, team speed, pursuit to the ball,
- 0:54Speaker 3: all those things. Now Atlanta's not you know, people in
- 0:58Speaker 3: the league don't project them to be, you know, on
- 1:00Speaker 3: their way or anything, but the team speed and the
- 1:05Speaker 3: everybody talks about getting to the ball, but they they
- 1:08Speaker 3: really do it. And you know again that health has
- 1:12Speaker 3: always the caveat and these things, but that that struck me.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I thought. You know, Jonah Coleman confirmed what you know
- 1:21Speaker 3: people have seen in practice this whole training camp, and
- 1:27Speaker 3: you know, I think the rookie class, you know, originally
- 1:33Speaker 3: you kind of thought, Okay, what kind of impact could
- 1:35Speaker 3: they have on this crowded roster. But I think the
- 1:37Speaker 3: Broncos are going to end up having to keep a
- 1:40Speaker 3: bunch of those guys because they are showing themselves to
- 1:44Speaker 3: be deserving of being in the mix.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Jeff, what do you think about a guy in particular,
- 1:51Speaker 4: John A.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Baron.
- 1:52Speaker 4: I know that, Look, he didn't make some necessarily you know,
- 1:55Speaker 4: some phenomenal playing to snag the ball or cause the breakup,
- 1:59Speaker 4: but he did you know, he was there on the
- 2:01Speaker 4: tip drill and then showed great speed down the sideline
- 2:04Speaker 4: and things like that. Are you seeing growth out of
- 2:06Speaker 4: the second year player that was the first round pick.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and he'd be playing a lot of places. You know,
- 2:13Speaker 3: he just happened to that is what happens. And you
- 2:16Speaker 3: get drafted to a good team. You know, that's one
- 2:21Speaker 3: of the league's deepest at your position. But he you know,
- 2:25Speaker 3: that wasn't just good speed down the sideline. That's as
- 2:28Speaker 3: fast as people have run in the league. You know,
- 2:31Speaker 3: in the last couple of years. So, uh, phenomenal athleticism
- 2:38Speaker 3: and you know, Kareem Reid tipping the ball. I mean,
- 2:40Speaker 3: that's just what I was talking about before. Look how
- 2:43Speaker 3: many times in that game a defender got a hand
- 2:46Speaker 3: on the ball, whether it's the defensive lineman, linebacker, defensive back.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I mean they they got in the way of a
- 2:55Speaker 3: lot of passes. And you know, if if this defense
- 3:00Speaker 3: adds that component to the rest of it, then that's
- 3:05Speaker 3: the kind of stuff you know, you talk about years
- 3:08Speaker 3: from now when you're remembering defenses like that.
- 3:12Speaker 1: What about Drew Sanders Leggie, he had a sack on
- 3:15Speaker 1: an nice bull rush that was good to see, and
- 3:17Speaker 1: then he was nicked up at practice today.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, you know, I'm gonna have to see,
- 3:23Speaker 3: you know, tomorrow what tomorrow looks like because he did
- 3:26Speaker 3: kind of have the injured player protocol today he kind
- 3:31Speaker 3: of worked on a side field and then you know,
- 3:34Speaker 3: didn't participate in the bulk of practice. So you know,
- 3:40Speaker 3: that's incredible. It's just the first game he's played since
- 3:43Speaker 3: the playoff loss in Buffalo, So that just tells you
- 3:49Speaker 3: what kind of road back it's been. And you know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: he plays just a smattering of snaps and then the
- 3:55Speaker 3: next practice is limited in some fashion. So, uh, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 3: I will know more tomorrow and Wednesday, if this was
- 4:04Speaker 3: more maintenance and you know their their scheduled protocol for
- 4:10Speaker 3: him after games right now, or if this is something.
- 4:13Speaker 4: New and that that's almost It's just unbelievable, Leggy, It's
- 4:18Speaker 4: just unbelievable. Every time he gets you know, you hear
- 4:20Speaker 4: so much and it feels like when he gets it,
- 4:22Speaker 4: he's a little like Jake Butt if you remember him.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And I know a lot of people didn't.
- 4:25Speaker 4: See a lot of Jake, but but you and others
- 4:28Speaker 4: would always tell me, man, he's looking fantastic in red zone,
- 4:30Speaker 4: he's looking fantastic.
- 4:31Speaker 2: In the drills.
- 4:32Speaker 4: And then I can remember a couple of times we
- 4:34Speaker 4: thought he was right there and ready to pop, and
- 4:36Speaker 4: then an injury would always show up and just ruin
- 4:38Speaker 4: whatever little parade there was, and there wasn't even much.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Of a parade.
- 4:42Speaker 4: I am curious, did you did you see an evolution
- 4:45Speaker 4: of the offense? Were you able to see maybe a
- 4:47Speaker 4: little what bo Nick spoke about at the podium where
- 4:50Speaker 4: uh Davis Webb did help kind of here's a couple
- 4:53Speaker 4: of hints before we get to the line of scrimmage
- 4:55Speaker 4: stuff like that, or was that too early to tell,
- 4:58Speaker 4: you know.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Pretty vanilla. And they did break out a couple of
- 5:01Speaker 3: the two back sets that they've shown in practice that
- 5:06Speaker 3: include two running backs instead of a fullback. Uh, kind
- 5:10Speaker 3: of a split back old school pro set look with
- 5:16Speaker 3: a shotgun, you know, chaser as it were. So I'm
- 5:20Speaker 3: I'm intrigued to see that with Dobbins and Coleman or
- 5:23Speaker 3: Dobbins and Harvey. Uh, I'm intrigued to see what that
- 5:26Speaker 3: looks like with the with the starter starters. But they've
- 5:31Speaker 3: shown that in camp and that's even given the broncos
- 5:35Speaker 3: in in the call it periods when the two coordinators
- 5:39Speaker 3: are calling it like a game. Uh, that's they've they've
- 5:44Speaker 3: made some things happen with that look in practice. So uh,
- 5:48Speaker 3: he flashed that a little bit and a lot more.
- 5:52Speaker 3: It looked to me like, you know, structurally, there's a
- 5:56Speaker 3: lot more intention about the middle of the field and
- 6:00Speaker 3: doing things there. And you know, they freed up some
- 6:05Speaker 3: people on deep balls too, So you can see some
- 6:09Speaker 3: of the influences and you can see why Sean did
- 6:13Speaker 3: what he did because it's having the intended effect. And
- 6:18Speaker 3: you know, Sean has participated in all of this, so
- 6:21Speaker 3: it's not like he's, you know, leaving the room and
- 6:24Speaker 3: letting other people handle all this. It's just the game.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Game mechanics were really smooth, and you know, he he
- 6:34Speaker 3: himself has said he was happy with the way it went,
- 6:37Speaker 3: and he was pretty subdued. You know. I know, it's
- 6:40Speaker 3: a preseason game and we'll see what it's like in
- 6:43Speaker 3: a two minute situation with the playoffs on the line
- 6:46Speaker 3: or something. But for the first ride out, it looked
- 6:50Speaker 3: like what he said it would look like. And I
- 6:54Speaker 3: thought Davis called a nice, concise game. And when it
- 6:58Speaker 3: was in hand, they they did what you do in
- 7:01Speaker 3: the preseason gave you know, just get to the bus
- 7:04Speaker 3: and go and go home.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Yeah, just get some damn people off the plane. Apparently, uh,
- 7:08Speaker 4: they closed practice today. Does that mean we might see
- 7:11Speaker 4: a little more of a twist? You said they rolled
- 7:12Speaker 4: a couple things out. Do you think we might see
- 7:15Speaker 4: a little bit more of that or what? Do you
- 7:16Speaker 4: think the motivation of the closed practice was.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Today today and it was just damaged to the bleachers.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Oh form this weekend. I was told by a few
- 7:27Speaker 3: of the folks, uh out there that part part of
- 7:31Speaker 3: the stands actually lifted up off the ground by the
- 7:36Speaker 3: way storm and then slammed back down. Uh, And that
- 7:42Speaker 3: that that part of the stands were damaged. When I,
- 7:46Speaker 3: you know later today, as did today war on, it
- 7:50Speaker 3: sounded like fans would be allowed tomorrow, But I don't
- 7:54Speaker 3: know that officially, so I'm just giving that caveat. But
- 7:59Speaker 3: that's why happened today. And there was some a very
- 8:04Speaker 3: very frenzied parking lot guy who had to explain that
- 8:09Speaker 3: the fans one car at a time as they lined
- 8:12Speaker 3: up down the road. So that poor guy, I hope
- 8:14Speaker 3: they give him a raise.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's a messenger that was probably getting killed
- 8:18Speaker 1: a few times there today. But yeah, I know that
- 8:21Speaker 1: the weather that went through the South Metro area this
- 8:24Speaker 1: weekend reeked havoc on the temporary bleachers down there at
- 8:30Speaker 1: Douve Valley. So, Jeff, the backup quarterback competition did he
- 8:35Speaker 1: was good? Ellinger was good, but you know, not as productive.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Granted he was not playing with the same caliber of
- 8:43Speaker 1: talent with him on the offensive side of the ball.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Did you see any separators in the battle to be
- 8:48Speaker 1: number two behind bow Nicks.
- 8:51Speaker 3: I would expend unless they changed their mind that Ellinger
- 8:55Speaker 3: would get the second run this week after bow Yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 3: to give him a little more of a fair fight.
- 9:04Speaker 3: As it were, he got a dial down, we got
- 9:08Speaker 3: this game in hand, call sheet, and you know, didn't
- 9:15Speaker 3: have a lot of guys around him who were as
- 9:17Speaker 3: familiar with the offense as you know. I think if
- 9:19Speaker 3: Ellinger had been thrown to Cortland and Pat Bryanton had
- 9:25Speaker 3: the front line offensive line blocking for him, he probably
- 9:29Speaker 3: would have shown what he's shown in practice. But I
- 9:31Speaker 3: don't think he can make a determination if the games
- 9:35Speaker 3: are telling us anything until he gets to play in
- 9:38Speaker 3: the similar situation. So he's winning practice. But you know,
- 9:44Speaker 3: as far as the games go yet, I don't think
- 9:46Speaker 3: we have.
- 9:46Speaker 1: All the info as far as the starting offensive line.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I think they went twenty five snaps for the starters
- 9:52Speaker 1: that were available. The other night, we had a few
- 9:54Speaker 1: penalties on Mike McGlinchey. One was an illegal man downfield
- 9:58Speaker 1: that I don't think is really on him, but yet
- 10:01Speaker 1: a hole to wipe out a Jonah Coleman carry as well.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But by and large, Jeff, what did you see on
- 10:07Speaker 1: the film when once you watch the old line.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you can tell they've been together. Not
- 10:13Speaker 3: a lot of of hesitations and and you know mix
- 10:19Speaker 3: ups and in the run fits or the the you
- 10:22Speaker 3: know in protection, who's getting this, who's getting that off
- 10:25Speaker 3: ball guy? They didn't have any any of those really
- 10:29Speaker 3: from from what I saw. So I think they just
- 10:32Speaker 3: showed what they are, a veteran group that's probably ready
- 10:36Speaker 3: to go in a lot of fashions. You know, didn't
- 10:39Speaker 3: have the center in there that they're gonna have, you know,
- 10:42Speaker 3: when the season starts. But again, most teams, if he
- 10:47Speaker 3: took the center out, you would see a lot more
- 10:51Speaker 3: issues than you saw with them, because they you take
- 10:55Speaker 3: the center out and they still have a lot of
- 10:57Speaker 3: guys who know exactly what they're doing all the time.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And again, you know I was talking about the rookie class.
- 11:05Speaker 3: You know, Cage Casey ends up playing the most snaps
- 11:08Speaker 3: of anybody on offense in the game, and he played
- 11:12Speaker 3: him pretty damn well. And I think they're going to
- 11:14Speaker 3: have to keep that guy if it even you know,
- 11:17Speaker 3: means keeping an extra offensive lineman, because he's a multi
- 11:21Speaker 3: position player who's already shown himself to be well schooled
- 11:26Speaker 3: and You don't leave that guy out there for that
- 11:28Speaker 3: many snaps in a preseason game for everybody to get
- 11:32Speaker 3: a look at, unless you are probably going to keep
- 11:35Speaker 3: him all right.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Time for the municipal update. What's going on with the stadium?
- 11:39Speaker 4: Do you think we're inching closer towards changing directions here?
- 11:42Speaker 4: Do you think with the announcement of the official concrete
- 11:44Speaker 4: company that means they're going to figure out a way
- 11:47Speaker 4: to work at where they are?
- 11:49Speaker 3: I've been told there's no official agreement that they're going
- 11:52Speaker 3: to get to do the concrete at any new stadium,
- 11:55Speaker 3: but I gotta believe there's some kind of you know,
- 12:00Speaker 3: at least a hard maybe, and they're somewhere for those folks.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But the official cement supplier of the Denver Broncos. How
- 12:09Speaker 1: many other NFL teams have official concrete sought?
- 12:12Speaker 4: The Broncos officially own them now that they gave them
- 12:14Speaker 4: the fifty five million on.
- 12:16Speaker 2: The land, but the company still.
- 12:19Speaker 3: They, uh, they're official everything. Now, Yeah, you can think
- 12:23Speaker 3: of so, but you know, I think they still have
- 12:26Speaker 3: the same issues. You know, the neighborhood and the representatives
- 12:30Speaker 3: have the you know, they feel like the Broncos aren't
- 12:33Speaker 3: giving them all the information, and the Broncos feel like
- 12:37Speaker 3: they don't have the the full ask list from those folks,
- 12:42Speaker 3: and every it's like everybody's staring at each other waiting
- 12:45Speaker 3: for okay, you ask, no, you ask, uh you know,
- 12:50Speaker 3: because uh, you know this this notion that people aren't
- 12:54Speaker 3: going to negotiate is is silly. So I think both
- 12:58Speaker 3: sides need just to get it if they're going to
- 13:01Speaker 3: get to it. If you're not, you're not. But they
- 13:04Speaker 3: still have This doesn't fix those issues or the you know,
- 13:08Speaker 3: moving the water department, you know, all of those things
- 13:11Speaker 3: still exist, and the timeline still exists. You know. I
- 13:15Speaker 3: think they'd really like to have all the stuff in
- 13:19Speaker 3: front of a city council, you know, by January at
- 13:23Speaker 3: the latest, you know, maybe March at the like, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 3: oh my god, latest. But I think that's where we're
- 13:31Speaker 3: at still.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Hey, Jeff, with the current issues with you know, the
- 13:35Speaker 1: the Denver water you know, the emergency facility and moving
- 13:38Speaker 1: it to Lot M, and then you know, the neighborhood
- 13:41Speaker 1: and the Denver City Council not thrilled about the plan
- 13:43Speaker 1: to move it to Lot M. You know, there's always
- 13:46Speaker 1: the possibility the Broncos could pivot and do the loan
- 13:49Speaker 1: tree thing if twenty thirty one is indeed the goal.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It was something that that I've that's given me pause
- 13:55Speaker 1: and maybe wonder a couple of times, why is twenty
- 13:58Speaker 1: thirty one the goal?
- 14:00Speaker 2: Why is that so important?
- 14:03Speaker 3: I think that's just the the time frame that's gonna
- 14:07Speaker 3: take to do a project that big. It's not just
- 14:11Speaker 3: the stadium. You know, some people have asked me, well,
- 14:14Speaker 3: why can the stadium in Washington, Uh, you know get
- 14:19Speaker 3: done in this time frame, like a year sooner than
- 14:22Speaker 3: the Broncos. And it's because they're only doing a stadium.
- 14:26Speaker 3: They're not doing the rest of this and they're not
- 14:30Speaker 3: this stadium project includes a little bit of a restoration.
- 14:34Speaker 3: You know, they're gonna leave some of the railroad motif there.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And you know, when you do stuff like that, you're
- 14:42Speaker 3: not just plowing it over and you know, putting the
- 14:47Speaker 3: shovels in the ground in porn concrete, You're you're creating
- 14:52Speaker 3: a footprint that you build in that takes longer. So
- 14:56Speaker 3: I and I think that kind of time frame, when
- 14:59Speaker 3: you get the shovels in the ground and start doing
- 15:02Speaker 3: all that stuff, you can start bidding on things. So
- 15:05Speaker 3: they would like to have some kind of calendar that
- 15:09Speaker 3: they could work off of. Okay, stadium opens in twenty
- 15:12Speaker 3: thirty one, Final four is here in X date, super
- 15:16Speaker 3: Bowl Playoff, College Football playoff game is here. At some point, yeaper,
- 15:22Speaker 3: you know, you start the calendar. So I think twenty
- 15:26Speaker 3: thirty one is what the team believes is the soonest
- 15:31Speaker 3: they could have everything done and just you know, start
- 15:34Speaker 3: those bidding processes when they know in like twenty twenty eight,
- 15:38Speaker 3: twenty twenty nine, Okay, the project's on schedule. Let's let's
- 15:43Speaker 3: get to bidding, you know, for things.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, It's just it was, you know, in twenty thirty one,
- 15:48Speaker 1: thirty two, thirty three. I mean, if Burnham Yard truly
- 15:52Speaker 1: is the target and you have those issues that you
- 15:55Speaker 1: know that are going to be difficult to rush through,
- 15:58Speaker 1: it just seems to me like Loan Tree and God
- 16:02Speaker 1: bless the fine community that we broadcast from every single day,
- 16:05Speaker 1: it just feels like, you know, there's a parcel of
- 16:07Speaker 1: land and kind of to your point, Jeff, yeah, just
- 16:09Speaker 1: plow it over, pour some concrete SRM style and and
- 16:13Speaker 1: get it done. But if you want to work downtown.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It just feels like more patience couldn't be necessary, and
- 16:20Speaker 1: yet the Broncos seem to have an urgency to get
- 16:23Speaker 1: it done. And I just wondered if there was a
- 16:24Speaker 1: purpose to that urgency.
- 16:26Speaker 4: I don't know why you're popping off. If we want
- 16:27Speaker 4: our sad man check when everything goes up and life
- 16:30Speaker 4: goes belly up, we need this thing built.
- 16:32Speaker 2: That's where else you're gonna live.
- 16:33Speaker 4: How you know, Leggy ain't gonna be there too, lady.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Maybe in that apartment as well.
- 16:36Speaker 2: We may all be living there.
- 16:37Speaker 4: We can take our time, you ready, Leggy, When everything
- 16:40Speaker 4: goes south, we're all just gonna be living in this
- 16:42Speaker 4: single studio apartments, yelling each other from the from the condo.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Maybe that's the point, is I don't want that sad
- 16:49Speaker 1: chapter of my life to start too soon.
- 16:50Speaker 5: You're ready to put it off now you have second thoughts.
- 16:53Speaker 5: I'm moving with Legy. Fine, I'm on as silence a Leggy.
- 16:59Speaker 5: He wants no part of Jeff, Like, wait, what did
- 17:01Speaker 5: I agree?
- 17:02Speaker 3: The hell we are? What are they talking about today?
- 17:06Speaker 2: My my? Suddenly Jeff's cell phone isn't working properly.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Jeff appears on all shows but one.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I went through a tunnel.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'm fair enough everybody. Jeff Lagwall, ESPN dot com, Leggy,
- 17:22Speaker 1: great stuff man, thank you Yeah. Altitude training camp coverage
- 17:27Speaker 1: is brought to you by Ramo's Law
