- 0:51SPEAKER_01: What a pleasure to bring you here.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: I know we have a lot of new subscribers this week who joined
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: to check out our two-part series on Matt LaFleur.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: So welcome.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Thank you very much.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Several months, honestly, I mean years talking to sources inside 1265 went into that.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: So really appreciate you joining our community.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Bears repeating that we do not take Any advertising money,
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: any sponsor money, any gambling blood money, none of that BS.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: We are powered by the people.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: We write for you, not the Twitter ex-mobs ever.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: We don't care about the mobs.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: We just care about the people, Bob.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: So how in the hell are you doing out there in Saline, Michigan?
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: What's happening?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Excellent, Tyler.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Beautiful weather, no rain.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Pat and I are going to kind of retrace my dad's upbringing in the North Dakota
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: and Northwest Minnesota area this week and into next week.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to miss the podcast on the next week, Tyler.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: At your blessings, I got your blessings, right?
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know if you have that blessing.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: We'll have to...
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: We're going to take it to Park Avenue.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: I'm going to talk to some suits out there and levy some punishment.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Could be corporal.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Let me mention this, Tyler.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: My dad, Dennis McGinn, he was 50 when he had me.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: My mom was 45.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Anyway, he played at St. Thomas.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Used to be St. Thomas College in St. Paul.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Later, now it's St. Thomas University.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: They're FCS now, but they were a smaller school at that point.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Anyway, he played three sports.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: And as an end, tight end, he played next to a pro football Hall of Famer.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: A pro football Hall of Famer from St. Thomas, the Tommies.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Who would that be?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Well, his name is one of the first Giants,
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Walt Kiesling, K-I-E-S-L-I-N-G, later became head coach of the Steelers.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I'm an assistant with Green Bay for many years, a big guy, 6'3", 250.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, that was a giant.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: And my dad died at a real young age,
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: but I do remember him telling me that he was an enforcer for him.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And he would say,
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Dennis, if those guys get after you, just let me know and I'll take care of it.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: That I do remember at about age nine.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to go to the Tommies and going to see some of their archives.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: I talked to one of their librarians.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: So it's going to be really fun.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: You were detailing your trip on tap here, and I just was eating it all up.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: It's incredible where you're going.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I know you left a few details out, too.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: You'll be seeing one of our loyal subscribers.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he wants us to say it by name, but love you, Dr. Jeff.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I actually just talked to him up in the press box at the Bills game.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: He gave me a call to discuss the Matt LaFleur series.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: One of the absolute best.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I mentioned that guy, so I hope you have a good time with Dr. Jeff.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I will.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Well, that'll be great.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Have fun.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: You know what we'll do too?
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: I'll try to get some fellow NFC North writers on the pod.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Rocket Raj had that suggestion for us.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: I thought it was an excellent one.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: We'll...
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Keep this discussion going on everything on FC North because I know a lot
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: of people look forward to it.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: It might not be as painstaking in the detail.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: We may not see how that third string tight end was sealing the edge
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: to spring Chris Brooks for 25.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that will happen, Bob, but we will try to make do best we can.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: I hope you and Pat have a hell of a time out there.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: And I'll be out there to see you in Michigan at the end of the month.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: So maybe we can hit record in the flesh for something.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: We can figure that out.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Well, it's Packers Bears week.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: You have one team and one coach leaning into it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Ben Johnson, he brought it right up after they beat the Jets in the locker room.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Referenced, you all know what week it is now.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Matt LaFleur at his press conference.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: He's not going to lean into that rivalry that has been kind of manufactured out
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: of thin air in terms of the Ben Johnson,
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Matt LaFleur dynamic, calling him out by name at the introductory press conference.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: We all saw the tense handshake after the game.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: And of course, F the Packers F them.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: And maybe readers even remember when I sat down with Javon Bullard
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: and how he said he hates everything about Chicago and he wants Matt LaFleur
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: to stand up to Ben Johnson.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Don't let him punk you like that.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: This is what's great about football.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I think that in today's day and age, again, I'm a middle-aged man at this point.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: With three children,
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: everything that comes out of my mouth, I feel like a crusty mini McGinn here now.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I don't like the exchanging of jerseys and the pleasantries and everybody just being pals.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: No, we need some real hatred.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: It's okay to use that word.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Some real hatred in what is the most violent team sport in the world.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: I credit Ben Johnson and the Bears for embracing it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Psychologically, they have something working.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: It's not exactly a point A to point B line,
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: but the way that those two games,
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: the last two against Green Bay ended,
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: we're at 16-6, 99% chance of winning that game if you're Green Bay.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: They blow it, on-site kick to the wild card, also the wild card at the site.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: I extracted that part from part two as a separate post if you guys want to check that out.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Sources inside 1265 relive all of the key moments that went into the meltdown 21-3.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Easily could have been 28-3 before halftime.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: On the personnel side,
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: the coaching side,
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: there's so much that I didn't even realize talking to these sources,
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Bob, that went down that night.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: You can check that story out.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: It's for subscribers.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: The Bears win that one.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: So are they in Green Bay's head?
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: You know, this has got to be the biggest game of Matt LaFleur's tenure in the regular season.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Isn't it?
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Eight years.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Everything that they've been through back to that Denver moment that we've discussed ad nauseum.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: The collapses.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Just the manner in which they've lost these games.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Something goes wrong.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: And they submerge into quicksand.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: They can't seem to get it back.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're seeing it this year.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: The Fourth and one against Minnesota.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: And then everything, the roof caves in at U.S.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Pink Stadium.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Even the Atlanta game,
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: I know it was a blowout, but you can point to specific moments in that game.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: The Brennan Cox roughing the passer.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: You can feel how deflated everybody is.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: So that's what I tried to figure out with our series is what goes into
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: the psychology of that all from Matt LaFleur on down.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Do you agree, disagree the magnitude of this game for the head coach?
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I see it as an organizational thing too, Tyler.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: You know, I remember the Bears had a dynasty in this division from 84 to 91 under Mike Ditka.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: They won the division six times in seven years, the NFC Central.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Their win total starting in 84, 10, 15, 14, 11, 12, six was a downturn, then 11 and 11.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: All right, and now I remember Ron Wolfe.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Specifically,
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: when those games against Chicago were in 93, 92, he was just trying to get it going.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: In 93 and 94, Ditka was still there, I believe.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: He left maybe after 93.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: And it was,
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Ron talked about balance of power,
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: changing of the guard, how hard it's going to be to move the Bears off the top rung.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Well, the Packers have not, I mean, they've been outstanding for almost 35 years.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: And LaFleur won three in a row here not that many years ago,
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: five, six, seven years ago, three divisions in a row.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: And Chicago won one last year with a really good young quarterback.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: And Green Bay now is at 500, not playing well.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Bears have won two games with backups.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Are they ready to take over?
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: They're going to have a backup Sunday at Lambeau Field.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: This is not Soldier Field.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: It's at Lambeau.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Do we have a balance of power shift?
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Is this when the Bears are going to take over?
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Minnesota leads at 4-0, and they have an outstanding coach themselves.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: But we know on offense,
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: they don't have the QB set up, and they're just not very good on offense right now.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: And Detroit, they had a run.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: They won the division twice, 23 and 24.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: And now they're trolling at the 500 mark as well.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: It's a huge game for the floor, for Ben Johnson.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Ben doesn't have to win this.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: He's got a backup QB.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: He's a game ahead of the Packers.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: And he's on the road, you know.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: But when I just finished that Chicago tape about an hour ago,
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: wow, they did some good things in that game, Tyler.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: They got an O-line and they're going to run the freaking ball.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: And that is for sure.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: And their defense has come on surprisingly.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So we'll see.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: I'm taping that game.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: I'm going to watch when I return next Friday.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: So I will have at least watched that from this weekend's card.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: How are you going to like continue?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Quarantine yourself on this information blackout.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: The result of this game is
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: going to boomerang back somehow, right?
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Are you that insulated?
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: On Sunday,
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: I'll be driving from my dad's hometown,
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Thief River Falls,
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Minnesota, to Minneapolis to see Dr. Jeff and a family and other friends.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: So I'll be on the radio on Sirius.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Hopefully it's on that network or hearing Larry McCarron and Wayne on the Packer broadcast.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: But I will be on it, Tyler.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, good.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: I know that the Bears are a three-point favorite, last I saw.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Right, with,
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: like you noted,
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: they win with Case Keenum, they win with Tyson Bajan as we were recording this.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: I imagine they're leaving it up for interpretation of who
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: the starting quarterback will be Sunday, but there's an unknown there.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Caleb Williams was hand string, that recovery.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: And it's at Lambeau Field.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Does that surprise you that they're favorites?
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: It doesn't.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: The way that they've been playing,
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: it doesn't surprise me, especially with the way Green Bay has been playing.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Still, it's an NFC North game.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: It's in Wisconsin.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Boy, if they're three-point favorites on the road,
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: that tells you really how a lot of folks across the country view these Chicago Bears
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: at this point.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Point of time.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: QB.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: I see this game as pick them.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: I can't.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: That's what I was thinking before we brought up the odds.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, at Lambeau, man,
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: after the embarrassment of the Atlanta game,
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: those fans are going to be just revved and jacked.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: It's going to be outstanding.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Weather should be good.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: It's going to be fun.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: One person close to Matt LaFleur did tell me the bad blood is mutual.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: So it might not have been there to start.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: And Matt LaFleur might not say a hell of a lot in these press conferences.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: He will want to beat Ben Johnson.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: He will want a sense of vindication.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: He knows it's year eight, right?
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: And I'd imagine he knows how people on his staff feel about him.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: As we revealed in our series, it's different at 1265.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: He is a hard driver.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: It's that Shanahan tree, as one assistant told us.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't be surprised if he got fired and rehired
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: an hour later like Shanahan has done in the past with guys.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: So it's a different world there.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: So be sure to check that out if you want to subscribe and read.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: And look,
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: I just tried to lay it all out, Bob,
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: and people can draw their own conclusions because there is a lot of good there again
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: and again.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Sources throughout the building laud his mind and how he sees space,
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: how he can draw plays, how he developed Jordan Love.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Intellectually, he wants you at his level.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: And if you cannot get to that level, he will hammer you.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: And if you never get there, you'll probably be fired or you'll want to leave on your own accord.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of good.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of bad.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: And there's a reason that they're blowing these games, right?
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: It's And it's a collection of things.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: And we've talked about it.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: You pointed out the flaws in the roster.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: That's absolutely a conversation, especially on the offensive line.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: But these coaches, I'm telling you, Bob, I saw it here at the Buffalo Bills.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Sean McDermott, another team banging on that door that couldn't get through.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: And 13 seconds hung over.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: The Buffalo Bills like a dark, dark cloud.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: It came up in conversation with high-ranking sources
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: when they finally did rid themselves of Sean McDermott and hire Joe Brady.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: That loss to Chicago in the wild card is a dark cloud over the Green Bay Packers right now.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: And it's on Matt LaFleur to remove that cloud.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know if a win just erases it.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: This is the regular season.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: It's not the playoffs.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: You're judged in January.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: It would certainly help.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: It would certainly help the Packers.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: And I will also be talking to Jim Monas on Real Football this week more about Matt LaFleur.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: The Green Bay Packers, the State of Affairs, if you want to check that out also.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's get to the games.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Green Bay edges out an undrafted free agent of a quarterback in Jalen Daniels in Tampa Bay.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Survive.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: The Bears clobber the Jets.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know the final score was what it was,
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: but if you watch that game, You put it beautifully.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: They just pulverized them on the ground.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: It starts there for Ben Johnson.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Where do you want to start?
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Let's start with the Packers, Tyler, okay?
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: Down in the heat in Tampa Bay, and never underestimate that heat.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: It was 86 degrees.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: I'm sure later on in the game it was probably 90.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: 78% humidity?
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: I hate that kind of weather.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: And they're in the dark jerseys, you know?
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: The home team can pick the color jersey.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Tampa stopped wearing any kind of orange or pewter a few years ago,
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: and now they're in white this time of year.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: That's terrible.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: That's IVs after the game in Green Bay.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: That's hard.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I'll just cut you off real quick, too.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: That's a great place to start, Bob.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: The Bills, every time they go to Miami, if it's early in the year, I think it was 2021 or 2022 –
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Man, their players were dropping like flies one by one,
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: getting IVs and dehydrated and heading to the locker room constantly, constantly.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: So that's a real thing.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: If you're not used to the heat,
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: similar to playing in Buffalo or Green Bay,
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: wherever, if you're not used to the cold, it's going to be a factor.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Dominic Gentile,
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: the Packer trainer before Pepper Burris in the 80s,
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: early 90s,
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: He used to give me the count of the IVs they administered in the locker room,
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: both at halftime and after the game.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I'd bump him after the game in that cramp locker room,
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: and he'd tell me, yeah, we had nine or we had six, you know.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: And then Tampa Bay would come up and face the snow then in December.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: I wasn't really sure what was worse,
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: what was more of a home field advantage, that humidity or the cold.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, the offense.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, the story was the offensive line.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: We'll get to that in a second.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: All right, Tucker Craft, 55 snaps.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, on a screen,
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: he broke two tackles,
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: gained an extra 15, was a great play, fourth and one, quick flat for 10.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: They went to him,
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: fourth and one,
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: motions in for the quarterback sneak, got it, stopped initially, second effort.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Then he drops the touchdown in the corner, which was awful.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: He got his feet down on a two-yard touchdown.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: He had a false start.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: He gave up a knockdown.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: I think he's got to play better.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: One thing I will really
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: like about him,
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: man, I remember a couple of coaches have told me this over the years.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: When your quarterback throws an interception, you get on your horse and you go make that tackle.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: There cannot be any drop-off in intensity.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: And Kraft made that tackle on the Parrish interception.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, you got five fat linemen running around down at the other end of the field.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: So if he breaks through the skill guys, you're in deep trouble.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Unless you got Favre who would go make a tackle.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: 12, I don't know.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Love will make a tackle.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: I've seen that.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Watson, he played okay.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Jonu Smith, they're going to have to start using this guy.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: He caught that 19-yard ball inside the zone.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's a threat, Tyler.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: How big is Janu?
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, he only played 13 snaps, so they don't obviously trust him as a blocker.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: He's only 6'2 1⁄2".
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: He came out at 247, ran 4-6-3, wondered like 12 and then 16.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: But the guy, I think, still got a little bit left in him.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: All right, Redmond, the blocking tight end.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: First play in the third quarter, he ran that seam for 25, so they...
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Picked that play out, LaFleur did, out of the playbook at halftime.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: He was ignored.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Nice play at 25.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: He had a really good lead on a running play for 31, the big one.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Melton dropped, he went deep for 30.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: What's Bo Melton doing in the game?
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: I screwed that up.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: You didn't get that reference, did you, Bob?
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: My mind is on Melton trying to read my hieroglyphics.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: He dropped a deep, deep ball 30 yards down the field.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: You're hieroglyphic.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Wingdings?
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Taking notes and wingdings on Microsoft
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Word there, Bob?
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to Matthew Golden.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: You know, he's way up among the league leaders.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: He played 53 snaps.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Watson only played 41.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Slant, third and goal at the three.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: He drew the P.I.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: on Parrish.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Fourth and goal of the two.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: He beat Scott on the out out of a bunch set.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Touchdown.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: He dropped an out.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: He dropped an in.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Parrish had the punch out on him.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: You got to respect his speed.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: He ran the out against that zone stuff.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Gain of 13.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: And Sky Moore played 23.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to the old line.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: So they keep Zeitler in mothballs.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: He's only been here.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: For a week,
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: he put the pads on probably two,
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: three times,
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: but he hasn't had a training camp and he hasn't played since early last January.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what happens with him.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: All right,
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: they start two new guards,
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Tom Munson at left guard and the young guy Glover at right guard.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Tom Munson.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: All in all, a really good debut for what they had.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, they've been playing with Monk and Jennings and
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: I got a lot of gear here
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: and Aaron Banks who was injured.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: All right, Tom.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: We need like a mashup of just the sound of your papers shuffling.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: I think we could use it for Rocco as his white noise at night to put him to sleep.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: That'd be perfect.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Let's just get Bob's papers moving.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: All right, first play of the game, he's up against Kalijah Kansi, the quick three technique.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: And he finished on the guy, and the young guy Kansi yells at him.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: I'm sure he's saying, old-timer, don't try to screw with me today, man.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: But he just kept playing aggressively.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: He was smart.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: He's kind of slow.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: He's kind of thick.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: But he played good.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: He had one holding penalty and a run against a linebacker at the second level.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: He's very strong.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: He later tossed Cansey on the ground after a run for five.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: It was awesome.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: He had an illegal hands penalty.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: I liked what he saw.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: He's 6'3.5", 319 coming out, ran 526, 23 on the test.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: His arm is fine, 33 and 5'8".
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: His hand is good, 10 and an 8".
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Now let's go to the other side, to the right guard,
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Travis Glover.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Sixth, sixth round pick in 24.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: He's never really played the first two years.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: All right, let's look at his scouting report.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: He's from Georgia State, 6'6", 317, 5-3-1.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Test score was good, 24.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Arms, 34 and 3-4.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: This is a really massive guy, and that's the way Gutekunst and LaFleur like him.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: They're not even...
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Talking about running screens anymore, not really jet sweeps.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: They do not have athletic linemen.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: They're not doing that.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: They're just going to try to maul and get that right now anyway with Glover and Tomlinson.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: We'll see when Zeitler comes in.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: I assume he starts at right guard maybe this week.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, Glover came from Georgia State, you know, low level of comp, just 20 reps on the bench.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: He made 57 starts in college,
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: 35 at left tackle,
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: 18 at right tackle, only four at left guard, none at right guard ever.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Here's what a scout said.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Knows who to block, but not how to block.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Consistent, you know what you're going to get.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Not an overly tenacious or nasty player.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Stiff in his pass sets and late to redirect and adjust.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: He's tall and plays tall.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: Gets by on pure size more than anything.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Slower feet and tight lower body.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Football intelligence is fine.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: It's his technique that's the issue.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: He's a mature, grounded, upbeat, well-liked.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: It matters to him.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: He's done well to stay in shape and keep his body fat down.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: All right, how do you play?
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: I liked it, Tyler.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, Love had maybe the best protection he's had in these four games.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: He's a lot bigger man than Jacob Monk, who was injured.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he would have started anyway.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: He's bigger than Jager.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: He's bigger than Jennings.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: He's a massive guy.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: All right, he had a bad run early.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: He missed the linebacker trotter.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: He had a bad run against the veteran Nunez Roach's inside on a pull.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: I wrote down he was kind of an oozer on that block.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: You know what that scout said?
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: He's big, but he's not going to really strike a blow.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: He came around the corner and he just kind of fell off the Nunes roaches.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: But a lot of times he's up against Vito Vea,
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: which is the litmus test really for interior players against power.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: And he bowed up against Vea.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: He had a half a bad run against Vea.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: He had a holding penalty on a run.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: I liked him.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: In terms of pass rush, I got zero pressures in a first start.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Are you kidding me?
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: He played really good.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Ryan, the center, again, against Vea, played really good.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: I got one hurry for Ryan, Sean.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Morgan had a good game.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: One bad run.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: He looked a little out of whack on a screen, but he was fine.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: And then the right tackle was Belton.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: He was excellent.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: One false start.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: I can't – yeah, you could nitpick a little bit, but there was nothing blatant in Anthony Belton.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: So Morgan, Tomlinson, Ryan, Glover, and Belton.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's a menagerie, but it was a good menagerie in this game.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: They did the job.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Now, yeah, what more can you say?
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: The quarterback, yeah, we covered the tight ends.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: The quarterback, he had a lot of time.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: I thought he could have done more with it.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: He played fine.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: He overthrew Sturdivant deep.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: He aired that ball out 62 yards in the air with a guy right in his face.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: He had a great throw on third and three.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: The safety Smith is right on him, unblocked, and he drilled it to Watson for 18.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: I wrote down kind of all day shooting gallery stuff.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: The interception, it was shocking what Parrish did on that play.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, if he just...
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Nobody would expect Parrish to be coming in there, I don't think.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: And so he missed Jonu Smith for a 26-yard touchdown down the outside.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Unbelievable gamble by Parrish and it paid off with a pick.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: All right, the running backs.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: 33 for Lloyd, a season high.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: 17 for Johnson.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: 10 for Brooks.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Brooks went out with a limped off.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: I think he sat out the whole second half, so he would have played more had he not been injured.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: All right, Lloyd.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: He had a bad run early on at the three-yard line.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: He ran into Morgan's behind, lost three.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: He got low.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: He ran over the corner, McCollum gained three.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Third and one, Diaby beat Kraft inside in his face.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: He bounced off, broke Parrish, gained five.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: It was a nice run.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: He missed a pickup on Tyreek Smith on a blitz, knocked down.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: He fumbled on a swing pass.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Luckily for him, the ball went OB.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: On a swing pass, he hurtled McCollum.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Boy, that takes guts.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: It takes athleticism.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: He gained an extra six.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: He played pretty good, Tyler.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: You got to hand it to him.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Then Johnson broke two tacklers at the linebacker level and ripped it for 31.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Long run they've had this year.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: But then he fumbled on first and goal at the three, and that was the end of him.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: We didn't see him again.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: And Brooks had a nice run, nice cut to daylight for 27, and then he got hurt.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: So that's it for the Packer offense.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: All right, a few thoughts.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: The first, the hurdle by Marshawn Lloyd.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: You know where my mind immediately raced to watching that?
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: 2011, Charlotte,
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: North Carolina,
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: covering that Packers-Panthers game,
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: my first season on the beat, Cam Newton's rookie year.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: It was actually a crazy game.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: McCam Newton threw for a ton of yards, if I remember right.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Steve Smith was still kicking around.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Green Bay made the plays late.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: I think Jordy Nelson made a big play late to win.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: They went 15-1 that season.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: But that was the day that Nick Collins' career ended, and it was so similar.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: Jonathan Stewart hurdled him, and kind of his leg brushed the top of Nick Collins' head.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: It looked kind of innocuous.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: And watching that Marshawn Lloyd hurdle, I forget the defender who it was for Tampa Bay.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: Similar, kind of reverberated, vibrated his head.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: McCollum, yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, McCollum.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: He was down for a little bit, right?
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Just a scary game.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: These collisions and just the different angles, even something innocent.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Can end your career.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: And I've talked to Nick Collins about that moment at length since then.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Actually, I think he came to my apartment in Green Bay, River's Edge once for a story at the JS.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Seems like he's doing good.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: He's still involved with the game.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: All right, one other thought.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Matthew Golden, you mentioned him.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Man, he's looking like a first-round pick, which is much needed.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Jane Reed, done for the season.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: They've got to get those big plays, that explosiveness.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: He's got it in them,
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: and There's a lot that those sources pointed out in that Bears wildcard game
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: that surprised me or that I missed.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Big picture stuff, more minuscule stuff.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Did you catch that at the end of the first half when it's 21-3
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: and Jordan Love throws deep to Christian Watson on the TV copy?
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: It looks like if he doesn't overthrow Watson, he's got a chance.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: He's six, four Tyreek Stevenson's six.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Even I get going to Watson there, right?
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: That's your go-to guy.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: He's made all sorts of big plays, but it really wasn't just choose your side.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: You zoom out on the all 22 footage.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: And as a coach pointed out to me, Matthew Golden just cooked his guy, wasted him.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: He is wide open.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: It's a touchdown, but love had it preconceived in his head.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: He looks toward golden side to,
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: To get to Watson and Jane Reed was open over the middle to so many moments from
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: that game.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: But yeah, the number one thing you hit on there is the offensive line.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: So how does this thing configure moving forward?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: If Bob McGinn is the coach, right?
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: If it was up to you, what would you do in this Bears game left to right?
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know about the availability of Banks, but let's assume he's not ready to go.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: He didn't play that well last year anyway, Tyler.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: So we got Morgan at left, Tomlinson at left guard, Sean Ryan at center, right guard.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: So Zyler will have had about five practices in pads under his belt.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: The Bears have a real cagey veteran in Grady Jarrett in there.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Green Bay's not going to run the ball to win.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: That ain't going to happen.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, the Bears, they're not a great run defense.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: They're going to have to throw.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: I'd play Zeitler.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: I think he can pass block better than Glover even after a week and a half and
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: then belting it right.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: I'm amazed, Tyler, that they didn't play Glover.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: They've been with this guy for two and a half years,
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: and they played Monk, Burton, and Jennings all over Glover.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: What?
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Glover's better than all those guys.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're seeing him every day in practice.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: That's a mystery.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: But you're right.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: You're signing Kevin Zeitler to play Kevin Zeitler, right?
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: I imagine if he's ready, he's ramped up.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: As the coaches like to say, you're thrusting him in the lineup.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: He could get hurt right away.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: You know, pull a hammy, something goes on his shoulder.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe another week the injury chances decrease.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: I think that's all true.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: You've got to have this game.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: I really liked Glover in this game, though.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Would the moment be too big for him?
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: It's a lot bigger than going down to Tampa.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: He's from Vienna, Georgia, so Glover was used to it growing up in the heat.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know how Zeitler played in Tennessee last year.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: I know he was pretty darn good with the Lions in 24.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to the D, right?
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, no Baker Mayfield.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Does he win that game for Tampa?
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: I think he wins the game.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, Daniels wasn't horrible at all, but he's a rookie.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: It was an enormous break,
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: the Mayfield injury, and it's like – It's like a gimme a grabber in golf, man.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: You just take it and you get the hell out of there.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: You take the putt, and they did, and they got it 17-14.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: All right, the D. Van S had another good game, Tyler.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: He had one, two, I got three hurries.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: if you don't block him on that backside,
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: he will flatten in really quick and really hard, and he will mess up your run game.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know what Ben Johnson's going to do,
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: but if you don't block him over there,
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: he's going to slam down inside and get Mononga.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: But one thing about Mononga,
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: you can hit him from the side, and that happened in this game this weekend.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: You can hit him from the side on those unblocked edge guys coming in,
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: but he will keep going for two, three more yards.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: He does.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: He falls forward.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: He'll take those side shots and keep going, man.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: All right, Van Ess did good things against the run.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: He stuffed Bredesen.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, no, the guard Bredesen.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: That's the fullback's older brother for no gain.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: He played good.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Let's stick on the outside.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: Sorrell, he had a hurry on a stunt, led to an interception early.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Then he's got recognition problems.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: He got fooled on the zone read Daniels keep for nine,
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: and then he got killed on the two-yard touchdown right after that.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: He got fooled on a pitch to a wide receiver around him, gain of 10.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know,
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: without Micah Parson, they are thin at the other edge.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: Cox, just kind of a guy out there, 24 snaps, Sorrell 33, Van S 46.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: Dennis Sutton has not really come through yet in the first month, 24 snaps.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: He is a threat as a rusher.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: He has a spin move.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: He has some quickness, but he's just not there yet.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: All right, inside, you've got Brooks, 35, Hargrave, 29, Wyatt, 25, McClellan, 24.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: They've got a four-man.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, and Ford only played 13.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Now, Ford, who also is with the Bears, was that last year or two years ago?
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Are they going to have to have him to stop Mononga and Swift?
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: Is he going to have to play?
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: He played fifth most snaps here.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: Hargrave,
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: fourth and one at the Tampa
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: 18, and he's on the field.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: He ended up on that play on his back when the runner gained seven.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: He's just light.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: He's small.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: He's old.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he might be their best interior pass rusher,
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: but at fourth and one at the 18, he blew contain one time on a stunt.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: He had the outside on third and seven.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: Daniel got outside him and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: He's just been okay so far.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Wyatt, he had one knockdown.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: He's really, I don't know if he's coming back from that ACL.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: Where is he with that?
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: We haven't seen much so far.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: McClellan, the rookie, you know, he's a huge man.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: He usually stays square.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: He does not shed blocks.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: He's not really getting to the ball.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: That may come.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: He's been okay at the point.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: And then Ford only played 13.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: They might be down on him.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to the linebackers.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: Let's start with Franklin.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: Zaire played 63 snaps.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: One time he runs in, he splits two blockers, makes the tackle, gain a four.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: It was just a really nice play.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: This is a smart veteran.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: You can tell he's committed.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Um, you like where his heart is, where his head is.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: Then he runs in recklessly on a blitz.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: He knocks over Hargrave and that's when Daniel sprints right by both of them for a gain of 21.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: Third and seven, he's in lone, lone coverage.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Um, Ball goes out to Gainwell.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: He didn't lack speed to get to the sideline.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: That was a 10-yard touchdown.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: Third and three.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: I can't read my writing.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: He's a very smart, you know, Daniels is scrambling.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: He's over by the sideline.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: Five out of 10 guys will get the penalty for unnecessary roughing because they want
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: to drill that QB in the next week.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: He pulls up, man.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: He's been through the wars.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: Franklin's a smart guy.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: All right, Cooper, he played 34 snaps.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: It was kind of a microcosm of his season.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: He got fooled on misdirection on a flat to the tight end, Otten, gain of 13.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: I said he was invisible for stretches, and that's hard to do playing linebacker in this system.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Then he makes that great interception on a zone drop,
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: returns at 19 yards, sets up the field goal.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: It means a terrific reaction.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: And then he injures his Achilles, and apparently he's out for the year.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Non-contact injury.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: They come in with Isaiah McDuffie, 25 snaps.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, one play early in his stint, he gets hit in the face on a block.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: He refuses to quit.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: He touches his face where he got hit, keeps going and makes the tackle on the play.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: This guy's got so much heart.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: On a screen, he got hurt on the screen.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: He comes back.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: He's got to run stuff at the point of attack.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's really firm at the point.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Unlike Cooper.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: And then he whiffs on a sack against Gainwell.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: He was unblocked.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: He blew that.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: And then Hopper, the young guy, played five.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: So the loss of Cooper.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: Personally, I don't think it's any kind of a crushing blow.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: I just am not that high on this guy.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I take him over Franklin, I think.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: In terms of overall value to the team.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: But Franklin's is the brains of that outfit.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: It's not Cooper.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: He's got speed.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: He can chase down quarterbacks who scramble, and that's important in this day and age.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: He can run people down,
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: and he has shown,
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: despite his test score,
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: he's shown instincts for playing the position much better than Quay Walker.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: But yet I see him flitting around, not attacking.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: When they're in that five-man front and he's on the line,
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: I don't see him good at the point of attack or setting an edge.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to the secondary.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: Nixon was good.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, Daniels couldn't challenge any of these guys, really.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Nixon was good.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: He's tough.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: CeCe, the rookie, he missed a tackle on that touchdown by Tucker.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: Teams are trying.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: They want to see if he'll tackle, and they're screening at him.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: I think he will tackle, but he's a shoestring, kind of an ankle biter.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: He blew a sack on a cat blitz.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Then he got injured, suffered a concussion.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: He's in protocol, four minutes left.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: Bullard, the nickelback, had one missed tackle, had a run stuff.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: Played all but three snaps in this game, a lot more than normal.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Valentine came in for CC, played nine, uneventful.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: Evan Williams,
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: he made a hell of an interception over there when he got his feet down,
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: set up a touchdown.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: Third and one, he got a breakup to Otten on a 10-yard in.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: It was a hell of a play.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: He missed Gainwell on that screen, gained an extra eight.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: He got juked.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: He's not the most
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: He's not the most agile athletic guy in the open field.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, he makes up for it with toughness and guts.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: But, you know, you've seen more classic safeties, smooth safeties.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: He was late to the flat on out and gain a 13.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: He got the unblocked sack at the end when they turned him loose
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: and they just Threw everything but the kitchen sink at the rookie QB
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: as you knew they would.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: You do that against Mayfield at that point, he's going to win the game.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: Unblock sack.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: And then unblock knockdown on fourth and 11.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: McKinney, he was late to the sideline in that cover two hole shot, gain of 21.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: That was by Hurst.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: He pulled up,
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: and the running back, Tucker,
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: the backup, Sean Tucker, the goal line guy, got an extra four on fourth and one.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: Why would you pull up in that situation?
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: Check that play out.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: He got a sack.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: He beat Gainwell.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: It was a hell of a sack.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: And he just – his play is so nonviolent.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to this.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Swank drills one from 58.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: What a kick.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: His kickoffs, he's – He's an intelligent, accurate kickoff.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: All three of them were on the numbers are outside.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: Whalen's got to come back, or excuse me, Whalen is not hitting the ball that good right now.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: 45-0 gross, 41-8 net, 4-4-9 on the hang time.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: He was a lot better last year and the year before that.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: He's just been okay, and he got cold weather coming up pretty soon.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Sky Moore, he's been a hell of an addition.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: Two punts, 9.5, two kickoffs, 26-0.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: He's good.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: That's it for the Packers, Tyler.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: By the way, the NFC North is now 11-5, best record in football.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: All right, Ty, that's it on Green Bay.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: How about their D?
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: And that's why we do a podcast on the NFC North each week, right?
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Hey, Brandon Cissé, update,
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: Matt LaFleur,
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: I believe said recently he has cleared concussion protocol,
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: not as serious as it looked in the moment.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: That being said, Jordan Rodgers, though, just reported Kobe Bryant is working out for Green Bay.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: So could that be a sign of Cissé's health or not being back full strength?
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: We're recording this on Tuesday.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: So we'll see as the week goes on.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: Who's working out, Tyler?
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: I believe Kobe Bryant, not the basketball player.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: That's the safety for the Bears who's injured.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Free agent cornerback.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Played for Atlanta, undrafted free agent out of Kansas.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: All right, so Green Bay is 2-2, and they play the Bears at 3-1.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Should we go to the Bears?
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's keep this trucking along,
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: and then also bring up the Packers' defense again here and there,
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: because I want to get your thoughts on how Jonathan Gannon possibly tries
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: to slow down this rushing attack,
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: because you're going to get a lot of Kyle Monungay and Bears linemen pulling,
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: smashing, 30, 40 plus carries.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: Tyson Bajant, you know, he's accurate, had himself a nice day.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: Not exactly the arm of a Caleb Williams.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: They're going to try to run the ball and set a physical tone.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: Can Bajant beat the Packers on their own field?
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: That's the question.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: I just don't know.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: All right, Tyler.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: You know, on the countable plays, the Bears had 93 and the Jets had 32.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: I've never heard of that.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: I know I've never covered a game like that.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Time of possession, 42-45 to 17-15.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: The game is 23-12 at the end.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: Jets get a touchdown.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: It's 23-12.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Bears take over on their nine.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: With 9.07 left and proceed to bang out six first downs and the Jets never get the ball back.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: And the Jets defense, they got DeMario Davis.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: They got the big guy Tavondre Sweat.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: They're not bad.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: Belton's a tough guy at safety.
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: They're pretty good against the run.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: I've seen them three weeks in a row now.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: But they could not stop this team with Bajan a quarterback.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: All right, the Bears.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: You know, Ben Johnson said something on Monday.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: He said, here we go.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: I think we have a poised team in general.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: I know that now after four weeks that really, okay, so a poised team.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Bears got 29 penalties for 189.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Their opponents have 57 more yards, seven more penalties.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: Green Bay's got 42 penalties for 344.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: That is not a poised team, and that could rear its ugly head for Green Bay.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: Ben also said we're a physical football team.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: We take a lot of pride in that,
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: and I think that's the number one starting point there on defense.
- 48:19SPEAKER_00: You know, if you really read his things, He's not trying to obfuscate.
- 48:25SPEAKER_00: He's just trying to inform with little nuggets and little hints of things that he's thinking.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: There's a lot there in his transcripts.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go to the offense.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: They got four weapons right now.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: That was a great move getting rid of DJ Moore, sending him to Buffalo.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, as soon as that trade was made, I thought they are so shrewd on that.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: Guy's going downhill, you know.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: Has he done anything, Tyler, in Buffalo?
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: He's been really good, actually.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Has he?
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, he has.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: Really, from the word go in training camp, he just moves differently than every other receiver.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: I talked to Drew Terrell as wide receivers coach.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: He put it so perfectly.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: He's like, look at the way he can run a dig route.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: I've never been around somebody who Cuts off their inside foot.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: It's unorthodox, but their quarterback's unorthodox, and he's really hit it off with Josh Allen.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: When he wasn't out there, you could feel it.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: Keon Coleman had a really good game against New England this past weekend,
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: but still, their passing game's been funneling through.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: DJ Moore, he's just been banged up.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: He got dinged in the Detroit game, this New England game.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: They need him out there, and I get it, the age.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: I get why Chicago made the move for the, I think it was 60 overall they got back.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: Was it?
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: And you're allowing Luther Burden, which,
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: by the way, Luther Burden is a player the Buffalo Bills
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: passed on in the draft.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: I brought his name up to Brandon Bean when I sat down with him that offseason,
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: and they took Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback, who was roasted by the Patriots.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: So, yeah,
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: it's always interesting to see how these things play out because they're trading
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: for DJ Moore.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: I think he's got some game left.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: But I get why Chicago made the move.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Ben Johnson made the move.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: DJ Moore would help him just like he did last year.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: He'd be a solid player.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: But Burden now has had to...
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: Increase his role, and he's been good, 52 snaps.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: But Dunne had a slow start, but he had a really good game, 83 snaps.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: They got Kalief Raymond to be the number three to replace Moore.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: He's been unreal, 47 snaps.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: And then they got nothing really.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's look at Burden.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: Five touches, 74 yards.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: He runs a bubble early on for seven, made the cornerback as a Ray Thomas, missed the tackle.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: 21 catch in the middle in traffic.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: You know, he's got a lot of guts.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: He's a great runner.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: He's one of the better guys after the catch in the league, I think.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: 22-yard crossing pattern against Brandon Stevens.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: And then an end around a la Amon St. Brown that Ben Johnson called.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: That inside handoff to the slot receiver coming around from right to left, gain of 11.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: He's a threat all the time.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: A Dunze is the classic X, but he's more than that.
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: He's a Z.
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: He can play all over the formation.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: He had a 21 yard catch early.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: He was lucky that he was ruled down by contact.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: He missed on the goal line on a block on the goal line.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: It cost him a touchdown on replay.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: Jets got the ball.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: They didn't score.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: Third and three, runs a hook in traffic for five.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: He got matched up against Minka Fitzpatrick, who's back from injury.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: And it was in a two shell back there in Fitzpatrick.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: And he just really smoothed.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: He ran a post against him for 37, 20 yard on a deep out against Stevens.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: He took a huge hit from that tough number one, Azaray Thomas.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: He bounced right up, stayed in the lineup.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: You know, He's played, this is his third year.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: Did I expect more?
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: A little bit, but he's a pretty good player.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Now, is he better than Christian Watson?
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: They're very similar, you know, same size.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know who I'd take.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Khalif Raymond, sometimes he motions in.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: Now, the guy's 5'8", about 180.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: But Johnson knows how tough he is.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: He had him in Detroit.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: He motions from the slot into the B or C gap and then goes and leads on a safety in
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: the box on a run right behind him.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: You kidding me?
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: And it worked.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: He is so tough.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: Very sure hands.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: The tight end, Loveland, has been kind of on the back burner because they run it so much.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: In this game, he caught six.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: He's got great hands.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: He showed it on and out.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: He moves like a wideout.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: We've been all through that.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: He gave up a hurry.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: He gave up a bad run.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: Two bad runs.
- 53:25SPEAKER_00: He's not a great blocker.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: Laporta or Loveland?
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: Who's a better blocker?
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Neither one is.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: On a one to ten, they're both about four and a half.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Komet, he had a false start.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: He's a good player.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: Loveland played.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: You know, They played 93 snaps.
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: Is that going to affect them against Green Bay, this offense?
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: That's like two games.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: It could, although their defense is going to be fresh as a daisy.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: That's a good point.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: I didn't think about that.
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: And then Roush, rookie tight end.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: All he had to do is beat one guy, and he would have had a 28-yard touchdown on a screen pass.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: The one guy cut him down.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: The gain was eight.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's blocking very good.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: I don't trust the guy.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: He's had drops this year.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to that old line.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: So you got the number three left tackle.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: Trapilo still isn't quite ready from what was it, a torn patellar last December.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: And then Braxton Jones is out with, I forget, a knee, I think, yeah.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: So you got Benedict, the kid from Canada.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: Benedict, Thune, Bradbury, Jackson, and Wright.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: So they control the game.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: Benedict, he had a holding penalty early.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, Monongah would add another 15 yards.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a terrible call, him blocking Sherwood.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:04SPEAKER_00: He's good against the stunts.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: He's an athlete,
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: and his physicality is pretty good,
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: and he's got enough ballast to kind of hang in and not get walked back too much.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: He's a hell of a number four tackle on your squad.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: Thune, I got him for one bad run.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: What, they run the ball 70 times, 60 times.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's just money.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: The Packers know this guy.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: I don't even know how old he is, 33?
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: He's money, Tyler.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: You just watch him.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: I love watching the guy's technique.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: He's still strong.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: He's not just relying on caginess.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's got brawn.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: All right, Bradbury.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: their ability to run wide,
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: those outside zones,
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: the key to this is him getting a reach block on the inside guy,
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: either in the one tech or even a three tech at times.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Right away, he got executed a reach block, which is so hard for a center.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: He's quick.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: Gain of 13.
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: I wrote down, wow.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: He can do wonderful things.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Monongai, gain of 19.
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: He blocks the linebacker, Demario Davis, the great ex-Saint.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's really swift.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: He got to Davis, gain of 19.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Then he had Inexplicably, four bad plays in a row in the fourth quarter.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: He had a couple bad runs, gave up a knockdown.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: He got walked back by Harrison Phillips, and then another hurry to a safety on a blitz.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: But he's had a hell of a year so far.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: He's kept the rookie, Logan Jones, on the bench.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: All right, the right guard, Jackson.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: Boy, he's a finisher.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: He's got horsepower.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: He crashes into people.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Manungai on that 26 yard run in the second half.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: Again, Demario Davis is right there and they crash in the hole and Davis is neutralized.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: I got him for half a bad run against that beast, Tavondre Swift.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: And then the right tackle, right.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's up against Bailey, the second or third pick in the draft, the rookie.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: He just really owned the guy.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: I think I'd have to charge him with a sack when he, it was strange.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: Davis crashed into him.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: It was a glancing blow.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: Wright got knocked off balance, and Davis got the sack.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: But in the fourth quarter,
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: when Wright got a chance to really a long pull from Wright all the way around to
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: the left end, oh, my God, he's fluid and fast, just like Panay Sewell.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: That's a hell of a line, and they got a third-string left tackle.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Tripilo might be back this week, but I think they got to play Benedict.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: All right, the running backs.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: Well, Swift got banished after 33 snaps after a fumble.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: He was flagging that ball in his left arm, was away from his chest.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: Ben must have saw that replay.
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: That was it.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, a fumble is one thing, flagging something else.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: And he benched the guy, just like LeFleur benched Caleb Johnson.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: So Swift called it a day after 33 snaps.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: He could not score a touchdown on two cracks from the three and then the one.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: On a fourth and one toss, though, beautiful cutback gain of 13.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: He cut right behind Bradbury, who was pushing a defensive tackle about eight yards downfield.
- 58:46SPEAKER_00: Swift, you know, for his reputation, he still is an A-gap banger, not to the extent of Monungay.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: So Monungay plays 50, hurts his thumb at the end of the game.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: Ben Johnson said Monday it's going to be okay.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: You know, there's some Aaron Jones in him, Tyler.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: When he gets hit, he will flip that body into like a torpedo.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: He twists his body trying to torque or torpedo forward.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: I see Aaron Jones in him.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: The one-yard touchdown, they run right.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, the Bears always run right when its push comes to shove.
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: And he takes a hard hit from Demario Davis and caroms off it.
- 59:31SPEAKER_00: One-on-one battling, won it for a touchdown.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, he gets there fast and he finds daylight.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: Now he's not really going to go the distance.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Mononga.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: What did he run at Rutgers?
- 59:46SPEAKER_00: 5'8", 209, ran 4'5", 8".
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: Swift ran 4'4", 8".
- 59:54SPEAKER_00: Did not take the test score.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: I never got it.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: He was a seventh round pick from Rutgers.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: He lines up eight yard deep.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: Some people in those one back sets are at seven.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: He's at eight.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: He took a hard shot from Davis again.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is the litmus test with Davis banging at you.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: And he just keeps going forward, man.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: He goes, it gets another yard, half a yard, yard and a half.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: He just streams ahead.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: 26-yard run, hard to bring down.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: You've got to bring your game, man.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: Bring your A game.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_00: Green Bay's got to do it.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: He'll run right over them.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: We talked about it.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: Edge is flattened.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: He keeps going from a side shot.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: Roshan Johnson looked pretty decent in that game at the end.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: Ten snaps.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: He's a hard runner.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: We saw him in 23 or 24.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: He's okay as a three.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: All right, now Bajan.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: All right, he gets three picks called back.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: Was he shaky?
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: He was solid.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: He's got a strong build.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_00: Let's look at his numbers.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: He's got a really solid base.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: He came to the line, Tyler.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_00: He was decisive in the huddle.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: He looked all business at the line.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: He never once looked nonplussed out of sorts that it was too big for him.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Bajan, 6'3", 215.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: He's got classic dimensions.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: He ran 4'7", 8'.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: Case Keenum, by the way, 15 years earlier, ran 4'7", 5'.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Bajan, 27 on the test.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: He's a bright kid.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: 36 vert.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: He's a good athlete.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Ran 4'3", 6 on the short shuttle.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: That's pretty good.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: Hand was okay at 9 1⁄2.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: Third and six, he drilled Roma Dunze for 21.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_00: He was at ease running the show.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: He's at home.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: All right, that's a heck of a lot easier than Lambeau Field before 80,000 rabid ones.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_00: He had the bad pick to sweat, overridden by a penalty.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: He got a huge break.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: Interception behind Loveland.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: He made a bad throw, led to a field goal for the Jets.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_00: He took a tough frontal sack by Davis.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Held onto the ball, up real quick.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: He spun out of a dead sack by McDonald,
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: a good pass rusher, Will McDonald, and scrambled for four.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, he showed he has wheels and instincts.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: Second half,
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: he stepped up against those young edge rushers,
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: kept his eyes downfield and delivered the ball.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: He never really rattled at all.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: He threw a deep out for 20, showed a good arm, threw well on the run, moving to his right.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: He was oblivious to rushers around him.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: His cadence, I mean,
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: he got Demario Davis to jump off sides and took a new enough to take a shot on
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: a free play.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_00: The cadence worked a couple times, got the Jets to jump.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_00: He got saved in interception when there was a holding penalty on Pons.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_00: But again, the interception wouldn't have happened without that.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: So I guess we're going to see Bajan Sunday, Tyler.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Incredible breakdown, per usual, Bob McGinn.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a great story.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: I could listen to Bajan speak after these games for hours.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: You can see how much it means to him coming from nowhere, West Virginia, embracing the moment.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: He's going to run the offense, operate it.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: Ben Johnson's not going to ask him to Make Caleb Williams-like plays
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_01: with his arm 40-plus yards down the field.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: So it can work, and it all starts with a ground game.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: If you're Green Bay, where do you start?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: How do you stop this thing?
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: Well, they're going to figure Bayton can't beat them, right?
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: So they're going to stack that deck.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: Their inside front has played pretty good this year.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: They've got to get John Ford jacked up against his old team.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_00: They got better run stuffer with McDuffie than Cooper.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: So in a blood and guts game.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: But Ben Johnson's not going to just run a gap.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: He's going to have a different he's going to beat him on the edge.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: He's going to be doing different things.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: We know that he's not going to be doing what the Packers think he's going to be doing.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: Secondary, can they cover those people?
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: With Caleb throwing the ball, maybe not with Bayesian throwing it.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they can cover those people.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: Williams is going to be in the box making a bunch of plays.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_00: You can't ask McKinney to do that.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_00: And Green Bay's corners.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_00: Nixon will come up and lay the wood to somebody.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: Bullard is a tough guy.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_00: They got people who will hit and battle on defense.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, let's face it.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: The Bears had 23 points.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: Their red zone was terrible.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: This is not a juggernaut offense,
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_00: you know, although the offense is better than the Bear defense.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_01: If they somehow win three in a row with backup quarterbacks,
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_01: yeah, that'd be a hell of a coaching job.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: It's what LeFleur did with Willis.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_01: And Willis isn't exactly setting the world on fire now.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: There's many reasons for that.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: Look at the receiving talent around him in Miami.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: But we're going to get to that Dolphins-Vikings game.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: And that's why I point out repeatedly in that series, Bob,
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_01: how LaFleur's acumen,
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: even those who have very harsh critiques for his leadership style,
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: the other side of their mouth,
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: they point out that he's brilliant and he works incredibly well with quarterbacks.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: And you saw it there with Malik Willis.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: You see a lot out of a coach with what they can do with a backup quarterback.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: You're seeing it with Ben Johnson and the Bears offense right now.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: And yeah, for those who don't know, Caleb Williams was officially ruled out.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: Ben Johnson says Baygent will get that start.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: So they're giving Caleb Williams plenty of time to heal from that hamstring injury.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: And if you can win in the meantime,
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: however you do it, might feel like house money for the Chicago Bears in one sense.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: All right, where do you want to go next, Bob?
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_00: Let's go to the defense of the Bears, although 32 snaps, you can't learn anything.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, Brees Hall didn't play,
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_00: Adani Mitchell didn't play,
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_00: Nick Taylor, the good tight end, Mason Taylor, the left guard didn't play.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_00: They didn't have anything.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: The place was really loud, I thought.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: 32 snaps, just quick bounce around.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_00: Ode Ingbo, they're using the guy more.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: He's a really good athlete,
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: and he's even playing some inside on passing downs with Grady Jarrett.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_00: Well, with him and Jarrett inside, they can run stunts, and they can cause some problems.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: Booker, who's had a slow start,
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_00: opposite Sweat,
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: he had a nice sack on a stunt,
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: and that's really because Odie Ingbo occupied three guys on that side,
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_00: and the sack came in 3.7 seconds.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_00: Second effort, Booker had a knockdown.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_00: Sweat had one knockdown, 22 snaps.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, he just, you know, I guess he took a shower.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_00: Vandenberg,
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_00: the young player,
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_00: he had a knockdown against a backup guard, which became the long touchdown pass.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_00: Grady Jarrett, I mean, he's fresh now, 22 snaps.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: The other starter inside Contavious Street only played 15.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: These guys are fresh.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: Lynch, the guy who started at that base end, he was injured.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_00: He's got something.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: Marcus Davenport, the old Saint and Lion.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_00: He played 12 snaps.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_00: Wasn't very good.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_00: I watched him.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_00: Then he goes and retires on Monday.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_00: He quit the Bears.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_00: Weird, man.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, the linebackers, Edwards is fine.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_00: Jackson hardly played.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_00: And Bush, Devin Bush had his best game, 31 snaps.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_00: Nice cover man against a wide receiver.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_00: Ball was incomplete.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: In that five-man line stuff, he's up on the line.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: Edwards is behind the line.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: Sadiq, the talented young tight end.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_00: Zero targets, zero catches.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_00: No, zero catches, period.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: Bush got a sack.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: He timed it really well.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_00: 2.4 seconds.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: Nice play.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_00: Ran in.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_00: You know, He's fast.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: He fires.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: He's a low tackler.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't like him in a inside the tackle box game.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_00: I would take Edmonds over that, but he was okay.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_00: Secondary, they weren't challenged by.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_00: Geno didn't have the ball.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_00: Fienemann, making a lot of tackles.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_00: He vacated his quarter of the field on that long bomb touchdown, got a little nosy.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: And then Stevenson.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_00: So their lineup here now is Jalen Johnson on the left side,
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_00: Stevenson on the right,
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: Muhammad the rookie is the nickel, Woods is the free, and Thenaman is the strong.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_00: So Stevenson, this is where the Packers have to go.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: They have to exploit this guy.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_00: Now on third and sixth,
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: they threw a ball to Garrett Wilson off on the left side,
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_00: came up and made a really firm, tough tackle.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_00: Held them right for a gain of five.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_00: Wilson didn't run the route to the stick.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: They had to punt on fourth and one.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: He dropped a sideline pick on a cat blitz.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_00: The Jets were their only decent offense the whole game.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_00: They had about three first downs on the ground.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_00: First and ten, the cat blitzed them off the defensive right.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_00: Minus five.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: He made a heck of a play.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_00: And then he gave up the bomb to Isaiah Williams, 58-yard.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: Thiemann, he thought he had help inside.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_00: Thiemann wasn't there.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_00: Santos drilled three short field goals.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_00: His accuracy on kickoffs, zero for five.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: Taylor never punted.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_00: They got a problem on kickoff return.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, they had three penalties on kickoff returns.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_00: And the rookie speedster,
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_00: Xavion Thomas, that 4-2-5 guy, He runs backward on the opening kickoff.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: He does not want to go north and south.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_00: Kalief Raymond is solid on punts,
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_00: but he's really not a kickoff returner at this point in his career.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_00: So that's it for the Bears.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_01: Do you want to posit a prediction?
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: Can we extract one out of you?
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_00: Let's say Green Bay.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_00: How about you?
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_00: I'm going to decline.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's going to come down to the last drive.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_01: These Packer-Bears games find a way to get to that point.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_01: All three did last year.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_01: And I think it kind of evens out.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_01: The Bears having to play with a backup quarterback.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_01: The Packers being compromised in their injuries.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: But then the way that they kind of settle things down on the offensive line on
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: the road makes you feel a little better about that situation.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_01: I think it comes down to the last drive.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: And I think it's going to mean a little something extra to LaFleur, to Love.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_01: They know how close that game was.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_01: And again, check out the details in that 21-3 debacle.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: And you can just see time and time again.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_01: It's so similar to the 2014 NFC Championship game.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_01: You can pull a dozen plays if it goes the other way.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_01: The entire conversation.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: Changes.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, on that whole shot, did you notice that point that a coach made, Bob?
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: That love to Watson.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_01: You know, the Bears are in cover two.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: And love, he knows he's going to get absolutely blasted.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_01: I think it was Dexter.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_01: Hangs in there, delivers the shot right deep middle.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_01: Christian Watson goes up with one arm.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_01: If he extends with two.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, he got hit anyways.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_01: He can catch that thing.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_01: It's...
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_01: 1998, Steve Young, the T.O., three seconds left, all over again.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_01: It's so similar.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_01: But not only was it close because of what Watson could have done.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, think about how we're discussing Jordan Love.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: That play's immortalized.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he would trademark it, like the fourth and eight Caleb Williams Iceman stuff.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: But we're looking at that play for seven months.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_01: But as a coach pointed out to me, he said, watch Jaden Reed.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_01: That concept,
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_01: that route concept that they have,
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_01: it's better to run it at like the 50-yard line because Jaden Reed is going to run
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_01: that linebacker, 48, completely out of the play then.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_01: You have more space to just get him out of there.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: As it was, he still could have got him out of there if he takes it over the top.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_01: Instead, he crossed 48's face.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_01: And so that's why 48 for the Bears is kind of muddying up the picture for Christian Watson.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_01: Maybe That's what made him pull up a little bit.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: Hesitate just a millisecond and go up with one arm versus two because Jayden crossed
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_01: the face instead of taking it higher.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: Touchdown, Packers win.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot of that stuff in there.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_01: So thanks for checking it out, everyone.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_01: I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_01: It's what football's about.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_01: And it's going to mean a hell of a lot to both teams, both coaches.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_00: No doubt.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to the team.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_00: Somebody in this league has won nine in a row, Tyler.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_00: Who's won nine in a row?
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: The Minnesota Vikings.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_00: So they win at home against the lousy Miami team,
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_00: which their only explosive player is that Arcane guy.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: He's injured.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_00: Minnesota has no injuries on defense still.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: They don't have Jefferson.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_00: Devon A. Chan.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_00: You had to be thinking there for a second.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_00: Miami starts two rookies in the secondary.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_00: Vikings have 11 penalties for 85.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_00: They got a lucky break.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_00: A long touchdown was the Dolphin player touched his toe on the white line.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_00: So they got a little bit of lucky and they went at 15 to 10.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_00: TJ Hawkinson was the story.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_00: Tyler, he did not have a catch until middle of the second quarter.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_00: Then he gets targeted 13 times and snags 13 for 119.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_00: Nine for 76 the first three games.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_00: So, Kyler Murray has his binky.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_01: We cannot get the bink away from Rocco yet.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_01: I can't do it.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_01: He loves it too much.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_01: That's a great analogy to use.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_01: We got the white noise.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_01: We got binkies.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_01: Rocco, all sorts of appearances on the pod.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: Let's get him up here.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_00: So what about Hawkinson?
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_00: Catches a 15-yard high ball in the middle.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_00: He had a couple bad blocks in pass pro, and then they got him out of pass pro.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_00: Kind of a nod and go against that really good linebacker,
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_00: Jordan Brooks, 20 yards, really a sharp route.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_00: Third and three, runs an out for four.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_00: He caught three completions in succession from Cole Kyler.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_00: Third and two, leaks out after a chip, gain of six.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_00: Third and six, in against that nickelback, Marshall has a wideout, gain of 14th.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_00: 22-yard seam against Brooks, great catch, well covered.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_00: Third and five with two minutes left.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_00: At the third and five, gains eight on a leak out.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, he had a terrific game.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_00: He's kind of yesterday's news, but they're going to have to have him.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_00: All right, Jawan Jennings plays 74 snaps.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_00: He gets targeted once.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_00: Felton, who replaced Jefferson, is the third guy in the rotation.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_00: He plays 46.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_00: He gets targeted once.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_00: And Addison had to play 75 out of 78 snaps.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_00: Illegal shift, a drop, 19 on a deep sideline.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_00: Then in the fourth quarter, 27-yarder showed his explosiveness, his run after the catch.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_00: Ball was slightly tipped right in front of him.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_00: He still caught the darn thing on an end.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_00: It's a hell of a play.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_00: That guy's got ability.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, but he's not a one.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_00: And when he is a one, they go to Hawkinson.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_00: All right, the offensive line.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_00: Well, they got problems now, you know.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_00: This team has not had many injuries.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_00: So Derisaw gives up a sack to Josh Use, up the field 3.1.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_00: He gets injured and he leaves.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_00: Then he comes back, gets up a hurry.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_00: And then leaves with a concussion in the fourth quarter.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_01: So the guy they play, I think he was a former Jet.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_00: No, former Buffalo Bill.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_00: You know this guy, Tyler, Ryan Vandermark?
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he played some for them, right?
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was a super sub of sorts at times for them.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_00: Unrestricted, they sign him for one year, 4.27, almost all guaranteed.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_00: So he's their left tackle, and he played in this game 36 snaps.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_00: 6'6 1⁄2", 307, 527.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_00: 27 on the Wunderlich.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_00: Very long arms, 35 3⁄4, 10 1⁄2 hand.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_00: So what is he?
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_00: He's an athlete, and he's not powerful.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_00: One time,
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_00: Uche knocked him back five yards,
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_00: but he was able to,
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_00: like Mark Tauscher,
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_00: resettle, to settle and recalibrate, and he prevented the ball got off.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_00: Then on fourth and one at the 30 of the Dolphins,
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_00: Aaron Jones ran for three behind him on the left side.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_00: So, you know, they've had their third tackle in recent years was Justin School.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_00: They've had the quiz, David Quisenberry.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_00: This guy looks as good as them.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_00: I think he's better than school.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_00: He might have to play.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_00: Now they've got a problem at left guard.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_00: Donovan Jackson out for the regular season, said the coach, with torn meniscus and had surgery.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_00: He only played seven snaps.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: Donovan, the second-year guy from the Buckeyes' first-round pick, that's a blow.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_00: So who they replace him with?
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_00: Joe Huber.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_00: Former Wisconsin Badger, who made the team in 25 as an undrafted guy.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_00: Huber is 6'5", was 3'11", 5'24".
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_00: Don't have a test score.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_00: Very short arms, 32 and a quarter.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_00: How did he play in this game?
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_00: He was okay.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_00: He's an athlete more than a power player, I'd say.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_00: He had one bad run against Rodriguez.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_00: He had two false starts.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_00: He had another bad run against Siler,
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_00: the kid from Ferris State, who's really a good inside run player.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_00: He gave up a hurry to chop Robinson, but more on him later.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_00: And the two false starts.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_00: So he's got to be the guy.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_00: They got Trevor Keegan,
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_00: he was their fourth guard from Michigan,
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_00: and then Caleb Tiernan, the Northwestern rookie.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_00: He's the sixth old lineman.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_00: The center, Brandle, we know him right now.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, he has pop.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_00: He's aggressive.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_00: He kind of lacks sustain.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's as good as Bradbury.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_00: They might disagree.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_00: The right guard.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_00: His fries, no change there.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_00: O'Neal had kind of a rough game against Chop Robinson, a knockdown, a sack.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_00: He got bull rushed by Chop, was really coming on.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_00: And Tiernan, the rookie, played eight snaps, illegal formation, and a false start.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go to Kyler Murray.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_00: I don't know, Tyler.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_00: You know a lot more about him.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_00: He's so stubby, isn't he, and short?
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_00: You know, he gets back there.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_00: He just can't see, and he vacates.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_00: He can't see, and he gets out of there.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_00: His shortness leads to early evacuation.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_00: I question his body language.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, he looks pissed.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_00: He wouldn't even look at Josh McCown, the QB passing game guru, over on the sidelines.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's quick to throw the ball away.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think his ball handling, his faking is really very good.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_00: He has flashing feet, but he carries the ball so loosely when he scrambles.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_00: He will throw some great passes.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_00: He threw a drilled Addison on the sideline for 19,
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_00: threw the 21-yard dig to Addison that got called back.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_00: He held the ball, took a sack.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_00: He discovered Hawkinson, the tight end.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_00: But he does good things.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_00: Very low snap.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_00: Shotgun snap.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_00: First play, I think, of the second half.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_00: He handles it.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_00: Hands off to Aaron Jones, who gets 14.
- 1:22:41SPEAKER_00: He made a great throw for 27 against zone on a dig.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_00: Threw a 22-yard ball to Hawkinson.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, he took a lot of balls on that play.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_00: Chops bearing down on him.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: Then he wastes a timeout.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_00: They're not anywhere where they need to be.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_00: They can't rely on this defense.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_00: They're not going to win.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_00: They're not going to win the division unless this offense gets better.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_00: The running backs.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_00: Now, Aaron Jones has to play a lot.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_00: 57 snaps.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_00: That's not a good sign.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_00: DJ Dallas played 12.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_00: Claiborne paid nine.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_00: Claiborne is the back that they are willing to because he's got ability and explosiveness.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_00: He's better than he's shown,
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_00: but yet whether he has the mental aptitude to handle the entire pro atmosphere,
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_00: that's the question.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_00: You can see they don't totally trust him yet.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_00: Aaron Jones, he dropped three balls in this game, an option route, a check down, and a dump off.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_00: He fumbled on the flat, the ball went out of bounds.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_00: He'd like to forget this thing.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_00: That's it for the Vike offense, Tyler.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know what to say about him.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, Justin Jefferson makes a big difference, obviously, having him out there.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_01: You know what's weird, though,
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_01: is it could be disjointed and not rhythmic,
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_01: not the kind of timing Kevin O'Connell wants out of his passing game.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_01: With that defense wreaking havoc and holding teams to 10 points,
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_01: 13 points, the offense doesn't necessarily have to light it up.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_01: But you're right.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_01: They've got to get more because they're going to need it.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_01: To win in January, you can't be winning 9-3, 15-10 type of games week in and week out.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_01: It's a difficult offense,
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_01: and I still don't understand why they let this quarterback competition,
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_01: this faux competition with J.J. McCarthy last as long as it did.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_01: That's why Kyler Murray spoke out at one point and said he needs the reps.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_01: And so I'm going to withhold judgment.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_01: Let's see this thing play out a little longer.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_01: Seeing with Jefferson, because that defense is so damn good.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_01: He doesn't.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_01: He doesn't need to be 1998 Randall Cunningham or even 1999 Jeff George
- 1:25:05SPEAKER_01: for this Vikings team to do some damage.
- 1:25:08SPEAKER_01: And there's some talent there.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_01: You make a good point on the body language, though.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_01: You know, those coaches in Arizona, what they told me for that series is he's a little surly.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_01: I forget how the exact wording they used is
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_01: the leadership isn't necessarily conducive to winning, a little edgy.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_01: But then they also said that you have to harness it and use it.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_01: And he responds to hard coaching.
- 1:25:34SPEAKER_01: You want to get in his face and say, throw him the mother effing ball.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_01: Get in his face and he'll give it back to you.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_01: And that's when you saw the best of Kyler Murray in Arizona.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_01: And Arizona had some coaches that did that.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_01: And Autry Denson, you know, the former Notre Dame running back.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_01: He got into this and then some more off of the record that were on that staff.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_01: I wonder if Josh McCown and Kevin O'Connell doesn't see – I don't know.
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_01: I don't see them behind the scenes.
- 1:25:59SPEAKER_01: I'm watching TV like everybody else, and I've been around the Vikings a little bit.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_01: They're not that type of coach.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_01: It doesn't seem, right?
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_01: A lot of positivity, which is great in its own way.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_00: But with Kyler Murray, this is what those Arizona coaches said.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_00: You got to do with them.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_01: Erase the abrasiveness.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_00: So let's go to their defense.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_00: Interesting about Murray.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_00: He's certainly a, well, he might be the key to the division, right?
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_00: Key to the division title.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, they've already beaten Chicago.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_00: They got a one game lead.
- 1:26:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_01: They're going to get Chicago in the dome too,
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_01: when they face them again,
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_01: which Kyler Murray likes playing in warm weather and in domes.
- 1:26:49SPEAKER_01: Which you get a lot of that in the NFC.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_01: So to get that game up on Chicago in the rain and the slop with Carson Wentz
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_01: when they did, that could be a game that tips the division.
- 1:26:59SPEAKER_01: We got a lot of football left, but yeah, that was a big one.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_00: Edge rusher Tyler Batty, B-A-T-T-Y.
- 1:27:13SPEAKER_00: He is the most important defensive player missing from the Vikings due to injury.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_01: They're pristine.
- 1:27:22SPEAKER_00: They're 100%.
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_00: They're 110%.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_00: They got everybody and it shows.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_00: Are they going to be able to continue to trip the light fantastic and avoid problems?
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_00: No, that ain't going to happen.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_00: But right now they're going great.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_00: They got everybody.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_00: Everybody's been there for all these practices, all these games, as much as Brian Flores needs.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_00: And that's what he needs.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_00: He needs smart people and he's got veterans who have been with him and they are Hell
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_00: on wheels right now.
- 1:27:52SPEAKER_00: They are a bitch to handle.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_00: And Malik Willis doesn't have anything.
- 1:27:57SPEAKER_00: No explosion on that offense.
- 1:27:59SPEAKER_00: Chains out.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_00: They had no chance.
- 1:28:02SPEAKER_00: And they got 198 yards and eight first downs.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_00: 2049 on possession.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_00: They had nothing.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_00: All right, let's look at that defense.
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_00: Now, there was minimal challenge in this game.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_00: Redmond.
- 1:28:17SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_00: one thing about Redmond,
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_00: their best D lineman, he's really quick and he pursues to the sideline.
- 1:28:23SPEAKER_00: Wow, this guy's a hustler.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_00: Flores and O'Connell got this team hustling right now.
- 1:28:31SPEAKER_00: He sheds people at the point.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_00: He's a really good player.
- 1:28:34SPEAKER_00: He's not great, but he's very good.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_00: The other starters inside are Levi Drake Rodriguez,
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_00: who's not a big guy, but he plays bigger than that.
- 1:28:45SPEAKER_00: And he's just a classic old nose.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_00: And then Ingram Dawkins is a little bit on the smaller side.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_00: He had two hurries in this game.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_00: He's improved in his second year.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_00: And then they got the babies.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_00: They got the rookie, Dominique Orange at one tech.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_00: He's 14 snaps.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_00: And Banks, Caleb Banks, the first round pick.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_00: He's got 11 snaps as a three, four, five technique.
- 1:29:13SPEAKER_00: All right, Banks, all I saw, he's willing to hustle downfield.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_00: And Orange,
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_00: I kind of liked Orange to this point, but he had an unnecessary roughness.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_00: He hit Willis out of bounds, you know, the gratuitous shot, stupid.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_00: He played on the goal line.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_00: He's done that all year in short yardage.
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_00: He gets penetration down there.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_00: On that 12-yard touchdown, he got moved easily.
- 1:29:39SPEAKER_00: He's ends up on the ground a little bit too much for his, you know, 330 pounds.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_00: So that they got a five man rotation.
- 1:29:48SPEAKER_00: They're all healthy and it's been good.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_00: It's been good.
- 1:29:52SPEAKER_00: Now let's go to the edge.
- 1:29:54SPEAKER_00: You got two guys who've been there for three years now, Van Ginkle and Turner.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_00: Let's start with Van Ginkle.
- 1:30:00SPEAKER_00: They play almost every snap.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_00: He had a hurry, stuffed a jet sweep for no game.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_00: Gordon, Ollie Gordon had that 53-yard run.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_00: Other than that, the long play for the wonderful Dolphins was 17 yards.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_00: They were brutal.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_00: Van Ginkle, he had a shot on Gordon's run.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_00: A lot of guys had shots, but it was 53 yards.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_00: Now let's go to Turner.
- 1:30:30SPEAKER_00: Knocked down, unblocked.
- 1:30:32SPEAKER_00: Jumps offside, misses a tackle.
- 1:30:34SPEAKER_00: Got a sack on an up against...
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_00: Right tackle Austin Jackson at 3.7.
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_00: Goes up against Jackson.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_00: Sacked 2.6.
- 1:30:46SPEAKER_00: He flattens fast from that backside.
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_00: He will set an edge, but I'll tell you, he was unblocked on the backside on that 53-yard run.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_00: It went the other way.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_00: He did not chase, Tyler.
- 1:31:02SPEAKER_00: And like three of four of his teammates missed the play, and he refused.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_00: Now, there's no sack and no pressure total to make a tackle 40 yards downfield.
- 1:31:12SPEAKER_00: I want a guy going 100% no matter what.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_00: Just go and go until you've got to get taken out because you're fatigued.
- 1:31:18SPEAKER_00: He didn't do it.
- 1:31:19SPEAKER_00: You take a look at that.
- 1:31:22SPEAKER_00: Van Ginkle, Galde, who was five snaps, the rookie, and then Van Noy, 21 snaps.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_00: He had to run stuff at the point of attack.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_00: He had a tackle for loss on third and two.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_00: He stayed home, and the ball eventually bounced to him, minus three.
- 1:31:37SPEAKER_00: He had a batted ball.
- 1:31:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, the linebackers, Cashman.
- 1:31:42SPEAKER_00: He and Wilson are a real problem, Tyler.
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_00: They are smart.
- 1:31:47SPEAKER_00: They are wicked, especially Wilson.
- 1:31:51SPEAKER_00: Proctor,
- 1:31:53SPEAKER_00: Caden Proctor,
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_00: that massive guy from Alabama,
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_00: the first-round pick, Third and two, he comes out on Wilson.
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_00: Wilson just stuffed his ass at the point of attack.
- 1:32:04SPEAKER_00: And Cashman, you know, he kind of sifts around, man.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_00: He's not going to jump in prematurely,
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_00: but when he goes, he fires, and usually he's going to the right place.
- 1:32:15SPEAKER_00: Now, he missed Willis one time.
- 1:32:18SPEAKER_00: He had a knockdown against the tight end.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_00: He had a fumble recovery.
- 1:32:21SPEAKER_00: He's just a good player.
- 1:32:22SPEAKER_00: And then Pace, There's a lot to like about Little Ivan Pace, but he's not as good as these two.
- 1:32:28SPEAKER_00: He plays five snaps, but his five snaps, he's going 500 miles an hour.
- 1:32:33SPEAKER_00: Secondary, I was singing the praises of Byron Murphy last week.
- 1:32:40SPEAKER_00: He had some problems in this game with Malik Washington, the sixth-round pick three years ago.
- 1:32:48SPEAKER_00: 16-yard sideline catch to Washington, bad missed tackle by Murphy.
- 1:32:53SPEAKER_00: A 17-yard curl to Washington against Murphy and a 17-yard deep out to Washington
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_00: against Murphy.
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_00: So he is beatable.
- 1:33:04SPEAKER_00: Rodgers had a really good game.
- 1:33:05SPEAKER_00: Little Isaiah, he's healthy and playing very well.
- 1:33:08SPEAKER_00: He's hard to beat.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_00: The Nickelback, well, they're doing different things with their safeties.
- 1:33:19SPEAKER_00: Metellus is the only guy to play all 39 snaps.
- 1:33:22SPEAKER_00: They're going to be fresh wherever they are this week.
- 1:33:26SPEAKER_00: He's a fine tackler,
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_00: and he is the leader, I think, of this thing, even more so than Harrison Smith.
- 1:33:33SPEAKER_00: He has a bit of intimidation in him.
- 1:33:35SPEAKER_00: Now he missed a tackle.
- 1:33:36SPEAKER_00: He got juked by Washington.
- 1:33:38SPEAKER_00: On that 53-yard run by Ollie, he was too wide, and then the tight end took care of him.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_00: He did not look good on that 12-yard touchdown run by Coleman,
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_00: but by and large, he's a really good player.
- 1:33:53SPEAKER_00: He can play up, he can play back.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_00: And Hunter Smith,
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_00: he still will stick people,
- 1:33:59SPEAKER_00: but on Gordon's 53-yard run, he got stiff-armed and gave up an extra 34.
- 1:34:04SPEAKER_00: It was his play to make.
- 1:34:07SPEAKER_00: Late in the game, he broke up a bomb, and Jackson played 18.
- 1:34:13SPEAKER_00: Reichardt, Boy, he's a weapon, Tyler.
- 1:34:15SPEAKER_00: He's five for five, 47-50, 33-41-29.
- 1:34:19SPEAKER_00: He had a new holder, Hecker, the last two games.
- 1:34:23SPEAKER_00: Kickoffs two for five, good directionally.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_00: The punter, they had to bring Hecker back because Thorsen's still injured.
- 1:34:30SPEAKER_00: Boy, they got to get rid of him.
- 1:34:32SPEAKER_00: Four punts, net of 32-8, 4-3-2.
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_00: Huge.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_00: Miles Price.
- 1:34:38SPEAKER_00: He leads the NFL in kickoff return, 30.2.
- 1:34:41SPEAKER_00: Punt return, 20.1.
- 1:34:43SPEAKER_00: In this game, he had returns of 47 and 36.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_00: Pace tipped a punt, kind of blocked the thing.
- 1:34:51SPEAKER_00: There was one penalty.
- 1:34:53SPEAKER_00: The Vikings are 4-0.
- 1:34:54SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_01: Quick add here,
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_01: because they're going on right now,
- 1:35:00SPEAKER_01: the Coordinators in Green Bay are meeting with the assembled media.
- 1:35:05SPEAKER_01: Stenovich noted that he isn't sure if Zyler is going to play this week.
- 1:35:10SPEAKER_01: Quote, unquote, he might.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_01: So take it for what
- 1:35:15SPEAKER_00: it's worth.
- 1:35:16SPEAKER_00: Yep, okay.
- 1:35:19SPEAKER_00: The finale was Detroit losing at Carolina 32-26 Sunday night.
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_00: Carolina's down two starting corners.
- 1:35:34SPEAKER_00: Detroit was down one player on offense, their center, Cade Mays.
- 1:35:39SPEAKER_00: Carolina's down three starting offensive linemen and Coker, a really good number two wide out.
- 1:35:45SPEAKER_00: And then they lose the rookie Freeling, the right tackle late in the third.
- 1:35:49SPEAKER_00: But yet, Detroit could not score enough to win.
- 1:35:54SPEAKER_00: They scored 26.
- 1:35:56SPEAKER_00: They deserve blame there.
- 1:35:57SPEAKER_00: And
- 1:36:00SPEAKER_00: The defense, despite all those problems with that offense, gave up 32 points.
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_00: They got picked apart by Bryce Young, who really was pretty amazing.
- 1:36:13SPEAKER_00: 445 yards and 28 first downs.
- 1:36:19SPEAKER_00: So let's start with the offense.
- 1:36:22SPEAKER_00: They got weapons galore, all these guys, but they could all do more, I think.
- 1:36:28SPEAKER_00: Let's start with St. Brown.
- 1:36:32SPEAKER_00: Now, 8 for 75, I can't wrap him on anything.
- 1:36:35SPEAKER_00: Laporta, played good, 8 for 84.
- 1:36:40SPEAKER_00: Tesla, you know, for a second-year guy, he will really mix it up in line as a blocker.
- 1:36:48SPEAKER_00: Campbell just demands that, and he's very good on bubble screens, blocking.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_00: He caught a 57-yard bomb.
- 1:36:58SPEAKER_00: He beat that ex-Viking corner, Akileb Evans, who was picked on all night.
- 1:37:06SPEAKER_00: Made a nice low catch for 10.
- 1:37:07SPEAKER_00: All right, now let's go to Jamison Williams.
- 1:37:10SPEAKER_01: He plays 70 of
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_00: 71 snaps.
- 1:37:13SPEAKER_00: Wow, he had to be fatigued.
- 1:37:16SPEAKER_00: You know, I think his best route really is a speed out.
- 1:37:19SPEAKER_00: People have to back off him, and he's got that thing down both sides.
- 1:37:24SPEAKER_00: He's good at it, and it's worth about six, seven, eight every time.
- 1:37:28SPEAKER_00: He dropped the takeoff against Evans, 31 yards downfield.
- 1:37:33SPEAKER_00: Does he have eye problems?
- 1:37:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, that ball was right in his hands.
- 1:37:38SPEAKER_00: Third and five, a stop route against Evans, gain a seven, nice.
- 1:37:43SPEAKER_00: End of the half, he runs it up against zone.
- 1:37:45SPEAKER_00: Couple guys back there.
- 1:37:47SPEAKER_00: Made a hell of a catch for 49.
- 1:37:50SPEAKER_00: Third and seven, they run the out against Evans.
- 1:37:53SPEAKER_00: Routine, gain of 14.
- 1:37:55SPEAKER_00: And then I thought it was a catchable ball on a high out later in the second half.
- 1:38:01SPEAKER_00: Tight ends, we got Laporta, Brock Wright.
- 1:38:05SPEAKER_00: He had a leg whip penalty, a false start penalty.
- 1:38:09SPEAKER_00: One bad run, one hurry, played pretty average.
- 1:38:12SPEAKER_00: All right, let's look at that line.
- 1:38:14SPEAKER_00: Left to right, Sewell, Mahogany, Scruggs, Rattledge, and Miller.
- 1:38:19SPEAKER_00: They're against a front with a couple of Browns and Lee Hunter.
- 1:38:22SPEAKER_00: It's a young front.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_00: Derek Brown's really good.
- 1:38:29SPEAKER_00: But they couldn't run the ball.
- 1:38:34SPEAKER_00: Gibbs is 15 for 46.
- 1:38:36SPEAKER_00: He's the only ball carrier in this game.
- 1:38:39SPEAKER_00: Let's start on the left, Sewell.
- 1:38:42SPEAKER_00: A couple of hurries.
- 1:38:45SPEAKER_00: He runs like a gazelle.
- 1:38:46SPEAKER_00: We know, I mean,
- 1:38:48SPEAKER_00: he's not playing left as good as he played right,
- 1:38:50SPEAKER_00: but he's the least of their problems.
- 1:38:52SPEAKER_00: Mahogany, one hole, a hurry and not, two pressures, half a bad run.
- 1:38:59SPEAKER_00: He's playing okay.
- 1:39:02SPEAKER_00: Scruggs.
- 1:39:03SPEAKER_00: When Mays returns in a couple weeks, Scruggs could go to left guard.
- 1:39:09SPEAKER_00: Scruggs has been pretty good.
- 1:39:12SPEAKER_00: He will get overpowered at center, but he's an athletic guy.
- 1:39:16SPEAKER_00: He's agile.
- 1:39:17SPEAKER_00: I think he plays smart.
- 1:39:20SPEAKER_00: He gave up a sack.
- 1:39:21SPEAKER_00: He had a holding penalty.
- 1:39:25SPEAKER_00: He's a pretty good football player.
- 1:39:27SPEAKER_00: That's a pretty darn good signing.
- 1:39:29SPEAKER_00: And then let's go to...
- 1:39:32SPEAKER_00: The right guard, Rattledge,
- 1:39:37SPEAKER_00: he had one responsible for one tackle for loss.
- 1:39:40SPEAKER_00: He had a false start, but he's been playing good football.
- 1:39:43SPEAKER_00: And Miller, the rookie, one, two, three pressures, two false starts, and half a bad run.
- 1:39:51SPEAKER_00: Now he's up against Jalen Phillips until he got hurt,
- 1:39:54SPEAKER_00: and he was up against the great Derrick Brown quite a bit.
- 1:39:58SPEAKER_00: How's Miller doing?
- 1:40:00SPEAKER_00: He's okay.
- 1:40:01SPEAKER_00: Was he as good as Freeling?
- 1:40:02SPEAKER_00: I didn't watch the rookie Freeling, the guy they took over.
- 1:40:06SPEAKER_00: They took Miller over Freeling about 18 or something.
- 1:40:10SPEAKER_00: All right, that's it in the old line.
- 1:40:11SPEAKER_00: Now, Goff.
- 1:40:14SPEAKER_00: He's up against a terrible secondary and really not much pass rush.
- 1:40:21SPEAKER_00: So he throws for 92.8.
- 1:40:25SPEAKER_00: He didn't have a great game.
- 1:40:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, you expect him with all these weapons to pick these people apart.
- 1:40:30SPEAKER_00: Tyler I got him for four batted balls.
- 1:40:34SPEAKER_00: And if you want to consider one a little bit downfield, it could be five.
- 1:40:40SPEAKER_00: Goff, six, four and a half, six, five.
- 1:40:42SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 1:40:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, after that Tesla big play, I thought they'd punch that in and just win this shootout.
- 1:40:49SPEAKER_01: And I think it was third down, that drive where it got batted down.
- 1:40:52SPEAKER_01: It was weird.
- 1:40:54SPEAKER_00: At the end, he takes over at his own 11.
- 1:40:56SPEAKER_00: He's down six, 206, no timeouts.
- 1:41:00SPEAKER_00: He had a terrible overthrow on Laporta, fourth and 13.
- 1:41:05SPEAKER_00: He knows he's got to get the stick.
- 1:41:07SPEAKER_00: He hit somebody, St. Brown, who only gained 11.
- 1:41:10SPEAKER_00: Talk about going out with a whimper.
- 1:41:14SPEAKER_00: Again, he's the least of their problems.
- 1:41:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's just Mr. Money.
- 1:41:18SPEAKER_00: He wasn't money, but he's a good player.
- 1:41:23SPEAKER_00: You give him 2.8 and he will pick you apart.
- 1:41:26SPEAKER_00: But the problem is he doesn't always get 2.8, and then he can't manufacture more time.
- 1:41:35SPEAKER_00: That's about it.
- 1:41:37SPEAKER_00: Running back, Gibbs, he couldn't break loose.
- 1:41:40SPEAKER_00: 19 touches for 77.
- 1:41:43SPEAKER_00: He dropped an option route in the end zone.
- 1:41:45SPEAKER_00: I think that was when safety ransom hit him in the back.
- 1:41:51SPEAKER_00: His blitz pickup was good in this game.
- 1:41:54SPEAKER_00: Did some really good things for a little guy.
- 1:41:55SPEAKER_00: He's got a lot of pride and heart.
- 1:41:59SPEAKER_00: Bakke, 12 snaps, had a drop.
- 1:42:03SPEAKER_00: He's a young running back, man.
- 1:42:04SPEAKER_00: He didn't know how to play it in college.
- 1:42:07SPEAKER_00: And he's their number two.
- 1:42:08SPEAKER_00: They've got to get Pacheco back, but that could be December.
- 1:42:11SPEAKER_00: All right, that's it on the O, Tyler.
- 1:42:13SPEAKER_00: Should we just go to the D?
- 1:42:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just keep it moving.
- 1:42:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:19SPEAKER_00: All right, you're operating against a weak offensive line.
- 1:42:23SPEAKER_00: And there was good things.
- 1:42:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, you start with McNeil.
- 1:42:26SPEAKER_00: I got him for four pressures, three run stuffs, one sack.
- 1:42:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, the guy's coming back.
- 1:42:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, he was up against backup guards, Corey Bullock, and then Robert Hunt, not that good.
- 1:42:38SPEAKER_00: The center's not very good, Fortner.
- 1:42:40SPEAKER_00: And he dominated, and they have to have that.
- 1:42:44SPEAKER_00: Hutchinson, you know,
- 1:42:48SPEAKER_00: He's up against the ex-packer, Rasheed Walker and Freeling.
- 1:42:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, we just know the guy.
- 1:42:54SPEAKER_00: He has about five pressures, a couple of bad runs.
- 1:42:57SPEAKER_00: They get some runs where he's a little bit going off half-cocked and he gets caught.
- 1:43:05SPEAKER_00: But they got two really good defensive linemen.
- 1:43:07SPEAKER_00: Williams got hurt at the end of this game.
- 1:43:09SPEAKER_00: They can't afford to lose him.
- 1:43:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, he had three run stuffs, four run stuffs.
- 1:43:15SPEAKER_00: He's a really good player.
- 1:43:16SPEAKER_00: Their front is by far the best part of their defense.
- 1:43:19SPEAKER_00: And Gil Howard had a couple of knockdowns.
- 1:43:21SPEAKER_00: He, he's the, uh, the three technique inside rusher on passing downs on Missouri.
- 1:43:27SPEAKER_00: He hasn't done anything.
- 1:43:29SPEAKER_00: Lacey really didn't do anything.
- 1:43:31SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go to the other edges besides Hutchinson.
- 1:43:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, you got Nowoski started out there.
- 1:43:39SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 1:43:41SPEAKER_00: Derek Moore, second-round pick, had one knockdown.
- 1:43:44SPEAKER_00: He's only playing eight snaps a game.
- 1:43:48SPEAKER_00: They've got to start playing this guy and get something out of him.
- 1:43:51SPEAKER_00: They've got to get something out of that pick.
- 1:43:54SPEAKER_00: Wanham, the starting opposite Hutchinson, he's okay.
- 1:43:58SPEAKER_00: He's solid.
- 1:43:58SPEAKER_00: He plays both run-in pass pretty solid.
- 1:44:04SPEAKER_00: Linebackers, Campbell, he's playing okay.
- 1:44:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, he'll miss tackles.
- 1:44:11SPEAKER_00: He plays with just unreal frigging effort, Tyler.
- 1:44:16SPEAKER_00: Regardless of the score, he just chases his ass off.
- 1:44:20SPEAKER_00: But a lot of his plays are downfield,
- 1:44:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:44:22SPEAKER_00: he doesn't seem to be making as many plays at the line of scrimmage or beyond.
- 1:44:31SPEAKER_00: And his blitzing, he's not getting home quite enough.
- 1:44:35SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:44:36SPEAKER_00: Did they start Roller?
- 1:44:39SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:44:39SPEAKER_00: Barnes started.
- 1:44:40SPEAKER_00: Barnes had just a slow game.
- 1:44:43SPEAKER_00: He had a forced fumble.
- 1:44:44SPEAKER_00: Ball was knocked out of bounds on McMillan, who weighed him up.
- 1:44:47SPEAKER_00: So Jimmy Roller, fifth-round pick, is he?
- 1:44:51SPEAKER_00: No, fourth-rounder from Michigan.
- 1:44:54SPEAKER_00: Seven snaps.
- 1:44:55SPEAKER_00: Second play runs in tackle for loves.
- 1:44:59SPEAKER_00: He really –
- 1:45:02SPEAKER_00: He really looked fast covering a pass in the flat, gain of five.
- 1:45:06SPEAKER_00: But then on that 15-yard touchdown run,
- 1:45:09SPEAKER_00: he ran into the blocker, took a bad angle, didn't see him again.
- 1:45:14SPEAKER_00: And they played Rodriguez, who played 28.
- 1:45:17SPEAKER_00: He's an average guy.
- 1:45:20SPEAKER_00: Secondary, well, McMillan killed him, 14 for 192.
- 1:45:26SPEAKER_00: Are you kidding me?
- 1:45:28SPEAKER_00: Coker, his running mate, they don't even have him.
- 1:45:31SPEAKER_00: And yet they could not deny the one stud of this entire operation.
- 1:45:36SPEAKER_00: Young, these RPOs, he just picked them apart.
- 1:45:40SPEAKER_00: Passer rating 110.7. Who do you want to talk about?
- 1:45:44SPEAKER_00: Reed.
- 1:45:46SPEAKER_00: Reed, we know.
- 1:45:47SPEAKER_00: McCrary, we know him.
- 1:45:48SPEAKER_00: He's just kind of an average guy.
- 1:45:51SPEAKER_00: Yasin, who's been benched, suffered a hamstring injury, I guess.
- 1:45:55SPEAKER_00: He's questionable.
- 1:45:57SPEAKER_00: Rakestraw, the young third-year guy who's been hurt the first two, he played.
- 1:46:02SPEAKER_00: He's looking for punch-outs.
- 1:46:04SPEAKER_00: He did it about four times.
- 1:46:05SPEAKER_00: He got one out.
- 1:46:08SPEAKER_00: He's given huge cushion.
- 1:46:10SPEAKER_00: McMillan beats him on a curl because of it for 19.
- 1:46:13SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 1:46:16SPEAKER_00: He played okay.
- 1:46:18SPEAKER_00: Clark, the veteran safety, the ex-Raven, Steeler, I think.
- 1:46:23SPEAKER_00: He's physical, but again, he missed Hubbard on a long run.
- 1:46:27SPEAKER_00: It was shocking, extra 20 yards.
- 1:46:29SPEAKER_00: That's the one thing he has to do is make all the tackles.
- 1:46:33SPEAKER_00: And Isian, he's a fearless, stiff hitter.
- 1:46:36SPEAKER_00: Terrible angle on a 32-yard play.
- 1:46:41SPEAKER_00: Special teams, Bates hit from 54, 43, 41, 26.
- 1:46:47SPEAKER_00: Does anybody miss a field goal anymore, Tyler?
- 1:46:50SPEAKER_00: Seems like it's about 90% league wide.
- 1:46:53SPEAKER_00: His kickoffs, excellent.
- 1:46:55SPEAKER_00: Five of six, well placed.
- 1:46:57SPEAKER_00: Fox, couple of punts.
- 1:46:59SPEAKER_00: Wasted a timeout.
- 1:47:00SPEAKER_00: Ten men on the field on field goal protect.
- 1:47:04SPEAKER_00: Nowoski penalty running into the punter.
- 1:47:07SPEAKER_00: Lions drop to two and two.
- 1:47:09SPEAKER_00: That's it, Tyler.
- 1:47:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't really know where the answers are defensively, at least offensively.
- 1:47:18SPEAKER_01: You've seen it before.
- 1:47:21SPEAKER_01: Brian Branch, Kirby Joseph.
- 1:47:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they're magic wands at any point for what ails the Lions on D.
- 1:47:31SPEAKER_01: Credit to Dan Campbell, though.
- 1:47:33SPEAKER_01: I like that he held the offense's feet to the fire, too.
- 1:47:36SPEAKER_01: As you pointed out, they left plays out there against a bad Carolina defense.
- 1:47:43SPEAKER_01: At some point,
- 1:47:44SPEAKER_01: there's probably a conversation like Ben Johnson's impact on this team when he's
- 1:47:50SPEAKER_01: with the Lions.
- 1:47:52SPEAKER_01: They're winning a lot of games when he's not.
- 1:47:55SPEAKER_01: The win-loss record, I don't have it right in front of me.
- 1:47:58SPEAKER_01: Not nearly as good.
- 1:48:00SPEAKER_01: And now he's with a division rival.
- 1:48:01SPEAKER_01: So the Lions did beat the Bears twice last year, though, too.
- 1:48:04SPEAKER_01: That's why I'm hedging a bit.
- 1:48:06SPEAKER_01: So let's let it play out.
- 1:48:08SPEAKER_01: But yeah, those are some real, real concerns in Detroit.
- 1:48:12SPEAKER_01: All right, top us off with a McGinn memory before I head to school to get these other two.
- 1:48:18SPEAKER_00: Tyler, young people think that it's just easy to get a QB, you know?
- 1:48:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, you got Brett, you got Aaron, you got Jordan, 35 years, no sweat.
- 1:48:33SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, we've talked about this many times, but I got to keep drilling it down.
- 1:48:40SPEAKER_00: All right, the Nadir hit on September 28 of 86, so that's 40 years ago last week, right?
- 1:48:47SPEAKER_00: And it was up at the Metrodome, and the final was the Bikes 42, the Pack 7.
- 1:48:55SPEAKER_00: The Pack was 0 and 4, headed to 0 and 6, headed to 4 and 12.
- 1:49:01SPEAKER_00: That 0 and 6 start was their worst ever.
- 1:49:04SPEAKER_00: So, That placed them squarely in the Vinny Testaverde sweepstakes.
- 1:49:10SPEAKER_00: But then they won some at the end and they didn't get Vinny.
- 1:49:17SPEAKER_00: So let's look at what happened that year.
- 1:49:20SPEAKER_00: Forrest Gregg did not like Lynn Dickey.
- 1:49:22SPEAKER_00: Lynn challenged him and Forrest could never accept that.
- 1:49:26SPEAKER_00: And Lynn liked Bart.
- 1:49:28SPEAKER_00: And Lynn had done some winning with Bart.
- 1:49:31SPEAKER_00: And he cut Dickey on the eve of the 86 season.
- 1:49:37SPEAKER_00: And he went with Randy Wright, who was a sixth-round pick from Wisconsin, from Madison.
- 1:49:43SPEAKER_00: I believe he's from – no, I'm not sure where he's from.
- 1:49:46SPEAKER_00: And he fired Bob Schnellker, Dickey's offensive coordinator, a tremendous tactician.
- 1:49:55SPEAKER_00: So they go to the Metrodome.
- 1:49:57SPEAKER_00: My lead was about red plots in the New Jersey – New York Generals, and it was just awful.
- 1:50:04SPEAKER_00: Vikings got three touchdowns in six minutes.
- 1:50:07SPEAKER_00: So then what happened?
- 1:50:12SPEAKER_00: That game was horrible.
- 1:50:14SPEAKER_00: And Forrest said, well, in that game, Vince Ferragamo replaced Wright.
- 1:50:21SPEAKER_00: He fainted in the huddle after it was like 28-0.
- 1:50:27SPEAKER_00: And he fainted because he had...
- 1:50:30SPEAKER_00: Had some bad food poisoning.
- 1:50:33SPEAKER_00: So Ferragamo went in there, the ex-Ram who had led the Rams to the Super Bowl six years earlier.
- 1:50:39SPEAKER_00: And Ferragamo didn't know the plays and it was horrible.
- 1:50:42SPEAKER_00: So Forrest cut Ferragamo.
- 1:50:45SPEAKER_00: He had kept Ferragamo over Dickey in the end of that training camp to be number two
- 1:50:50SPEAKER_00: behind Wright.
- 1:50:52SPEAKER_00: So two days later, he cuts Ferragamo.
- 1:50:55SPEAKER_00: This is just chaos.
- 1:50:57SPEAKER_00: He brings in Chuck Fusina, age 29.
- 1:51:00SPEAKER_00: You know that name, Tyler?
- 1:51:02SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:51:03SPEAKER_00: Former USFL guy, two-time champion in the USFL.
- 1:51:08SPEAKER_00: Had him in for a tryout.
- 1:51:10SPEAKER_00: He had Doug Flutie in for a tryout, the Heisman winner.
- 1:51:13SPEAKER_00: Doug, little 5'7", Doug was in there.
- 1:51:17SPEAKER_00: He had Scott Campbell in for a tryout, the ex-Falcon.
- 1:51:21SPEAKER_00: And they signed Fusina.
- 1:51:23SPEAKER_00: So Forrest, in the middle of all this, Forrest was asked about it.
- 1:51:30SPEAKER_00: And he's asked,
- 1:51:33SPEAKER_00: he says, I didn't take this job to have people love me.
- 1:51:37SPEAKER_00: I don't really care whether they do or not, because he'd been getting booed a lot.
- 1:51:41SPEAKER_00: And then he says,
- 1:51:49SPEAKER_00: All those people that are wearing those sacks on their heads will come out next year
- 1:51:53SPEAKER_00: and be cheering us, those same nice people.
- 1:51:57SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so Ferragamo got cut.
- 1:52:02SPEAKER_00: Ludie had a 30-minute workout.
- 1:52:04SPEAKER_00: We watched this workout through for 30 minutes.
- 1:52:11SPEAKER_00: He had a contract with the New Jersey Generals.
- 1:52:14SPEAKER_00: And in my story,
- 1:52:15SPEAKER_00: I said, Generals owner Donald Trump Was willing to consider a settlement for Flutie.
- 1:52:22SPEAKER_00: That's the only time I've ever typed that name.
- 1:52:26SPEAKER_00: Green Bay had bid for Jim Everett.
- 1:52:29SPEAKER_00: He was on the block.
- 1:52:30SPEAKER_00: Houston eventually traded him to the Rams for two number ones and a five.
- 1:52:35SPEAKER_00: So that's the way he went.
- 1:52:37SPEAKER_00: They like Ferragamo so much, they gave him number five.
- 1:52:41SPEAKER_00: The first guy in 20 years to wear it since Paul Horning.
- 1:52:45SPEAKER_00: So they go four and 12, and here were the passer ratings.
- 1:52:49SPEAKER_00: Randy Wright finished up at 66.2.
- 1:52:50SPEAKER_00: Ferragamo, 56.6.
- 1:52:51SPEAKER_00: Chuck Fusina, limited duty, 61.7.
- 1:52:53SPEAKER_00: So the club had a 65.1 passer rating and completed 54.1% of their passes.
- 1:52:57SPEAKER_00: Jim Mora, who...
- 1:53:16SPEAKER_00: New Orleans coach, and they were playing the Colts.
- 1:53:23SPEAKER_00: And Jim,
- 1:53:24SPEAKER_00: who had beaten the Packers,
- 1:53:25SPEAKER_00: said the only reason we're one and four and they're all in five is
- 1:53:29SPEAKER_00: that we played Green Bay and they didn't.
- 1:53:33SPEAKER_00: That's where they were.
- 1:53:34SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:53:35SPEAKER_00: That's kind of a convoluted one, but.
- 1:53:39SPEAKER_00: The riches of having a quarterback are fantastic, man.
- 1:53:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think the.
- 1:53:45SPEAKER_01: The zoom out is always interesting because Favre to Rodgers to Love,
- 1:53:55SPEAKER_01: half century of just serenity at a position that drives GMs,
- 1:54:02SPEAKER_01: coaches, hell owners, batshit crazy.
- 1:54:05SPEAKER_01: That's where that blowout lost Atlanta at Lambeau and hearing those boos,
- 1:54:11SPEAKER_01: there's just these moments from time to time where I'm sure
- 1:54:15SPEAKER_01: that there's some older generation of Packer fans.
- 1:54:18SPEAKER_01: They remember those days.
- 1:54:19SPEAKER_01: They're terrified of the dark ages and a return to that.
- 1:54:23SPEAKER_01: And I suppose, you know, you know how I feel about Jordan Love.
- 1:54:27SPEAKER_01: I think that as long as he's the quarterback, they'll stay in contention.
- 1:54:32SPEAKER_01: But these are tough times for the Green Bay Packers, and this is a huge game.
- 1:54:37SPEAKER_01: And they can juke either direction this season, really, and go either way still.
- 1:54:46SPEAKER_01: All right, Bob McGinn, thank you so much, as always, for breaking it down.
- 1:54:52SPEAKER_01: And enjoy vacation.
- 1:54:54SPEAKER_01: Hope you have a good time out there.
- 1:54:55SPEAKER_01: Thank
- 1:54:56SPEAKER_00: you, Tyler.
- 1:54:58SPEAKER_01: Thanks so much for checking out the podcast, everybody.
- 1:55:00SPEAKER_01: Be sure to share Golong with a friend.
- 1:55:02SPEAKER_01: That's how we keep this thing growing.
- 1:55:04SPEAKER_01: It's a season number seven here.
- 1:55:06SPEAKER_01: We'll catch you next time.
- 1:55:07[music]
