- 0:00Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I'm not happy when
- 0:03Speaker 1: people are wrong in the gospel. I'm not.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I don't sit there and go, oh, wow, great. They're
- 0:10Speaker 2: going to die and spend eternity separated from God in hell. No,
- 0:15Speaker 2: that doesn't make my joy complete. In fact, I thought
- 0:19Speaker 2: about this. And as I thought about this statement, I
- 0:21Speaker 2: kept running back over the statement again and again in
- 0:24Speaker 2: my mind. Do I really mean that? Do I really
- 0:25Speaker 2: mean that? And here's the statement. Nothing should bring us
- 0:31Speaker 2: more joy than seeing sinners.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Redeemed.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Nothing should bring us more joy than seeing sinners redeemed.
- 0:46Speaker 2: And the unfortunate reality is that for some of us,
- 0:49Speaker 2: that's not true. For some of us, we think there
- 0:53Speaker 2: are things that are more important than that. There are
- 0:55Speaker 2: things that bring us more joy than that. For some
- 0:58Speaker 2: of us in this room, We're more concerned about the
- 1:01Speaker 2: right person being elected to an office than we are
- 1:03Speaker 2: about sinners being redeemed.
- 1:08Speaker 1: How do I know that?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Because for some of us, you look at the time
- 1:12Speaker 2: and energy that we put into our political efforts and
- 1:15Speaker 2: you look at the time and energy that we put
- 1:16Speaker 2: into proclaiming the gospel and the answer becomes clear.
- 1:20Speaker 1: We would much.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Rather have our guy, our laws than we would to
- 1:27Speaker 2: have sinners redeemed. For the cause of Christ. Some of
- 1:32Speaker 2: us have come to this place. Nothing brings us more
- 1:35Speaker 2: joy than to see sinners redeemed. Well, what about, no, no, no,
- 1:39Speaker 2: the most joyous thing in the world is the birth
- 1:42Speaker 2: of a child. It's the most joyous.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Thing in the world. No, it's not. No, it's not.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Because from the moment that child is born into your home,
- 1:52Speaker 2: what do you want more than anything else?
- 1:54Speaker 1: For them to be born again.
- 1:58Speaker 2: To have a child born into your home and that
- 2:01Speaker 2: child never be born again, that would not satisfy you.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It won't. It won't. I hope it won't. That's not enough.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Just having a baby come into the house, that's not enough. No.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's glorious when that child is born. But from that
- 2:17Speaker 2: moment on, what burns in us? Oh, God, would you
- 2:24Speaker 2: save them? Would you redeem them? Would you rescue them?
- 2:28Speaker 2: I want my child to be in heaven with me.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I want him to be saved. I want him to
- 2:33Speaker 2: be born again. Successful in business.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever. Fine. Born again, though. See him getting married. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 1: that's great.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Marriage, wonderful thing. But born again, though. My children are
- 2:52Speaker 2: never married, but they're born again. I'm all right.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm all right.
- 2:56Speaker 2: If they're never successful in business, but they're born again,
- 2:58Speaker 2: I'm all right. If they never ace an exam, but
- 3:02Speaker 2: they're born again, I'm all right. If they never master
- 3:06Speaker 2: a piano concerto, but they're born again, I'm all right.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Because the most glorious thing in.
- 3:12Speaker 2: This world is when the lost sinner is saved. And
- 3:22Speaker 2: my prayer for us is that we never lose that.
- 3:24Speaker 2: That we never miss that. Because that's what John says
- 3:28Speaker 2: makes his joy complete. His joy is not complete without that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And some of you in this church, you're satisfied just
- 3:35Speaker 2: being part of a family integrated church.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Shame on you. Shame on you if that's the case.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Shame on you.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Who cares if we find a family integrated church but
- 3:45Speaker 2: lost sinners never get saved? In fact, The reason that
- 3:53Speaker 2: we're committed to this format is because we believe that
- 3:57Speaker 2: it's the most effective way to carry out the Great Commission.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Not just because we hate youth groups. It's not about
- 4:06Speaker 1: what we're against. It's about what we're for. We're for
- 4:10Speaker 1: the Great Commission.
- 4:13Speaker 2: We're for seeing people reached with the gospel and being
- 4:16Speaker 2: taught to obey all the things that he's taught us.
- 4:18Speaker 2: And we believe the most effective place for that teaching
- 4:21Speaker 2: of all things to happen is in the home. That's
- 4:24Speaker 2: what we believe. But it's not just about the homes
- 4:29Speaker 2: we got. It's about the homes we don't have yet.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Notice I said yet. It's about the homes we don't
- 4:41Speaker 2: have yet. Is your heart broken over the homes we
- 4:46Speaker 2: don't have yet? When you ride out of your neighborhood,
- 4:53Speaker 2: when you ride out of your neighborhood, do you look
- 4:55Speaker 2: down your nose at the people who are playing golf?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Do you look down your nose at the people who
- 5:00Speaker 2: are riding their bikes? Do you look down your nose
- 5:03Speaker 2: at your neighbors whose cars are still in the driveway?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Or do you say, oh God, give us those souls?
- 5:11Speaker 1: Which is it? Which is it?
- 5:16Speaker 2: I wish I could say I was always on the
- 5:17Speaker 2: right side of that. Sometimes I'm looking down my nose.
- 5:22Speaker 2: But I pray that God would give me the attitude
- 5:25Speaker 2: that's present here in 1 John chapter 1 and verse 4.
- 5:28Speaker 2: My joy is not complete just looking down my nose
- 5:31Speaker 2: at other people because they don't go where I go
- 5:33Speaker 2: on Sundays. My joy is only complete when the gospel
- 5:37Speaker 2: penetrates the hearts and lives of lost sinners and rescues
- 5:42Speaker 2: them from where they're headed now and puts them on
- 5:45Speaker 2: a new path, redeems their life, redeems their future, redeems
- 5:50Speaker 2: their family. That's what we're about. That's what we got
- 5:55Speaker 2: to be about. And if your joy can be made
- 5:58Speaker 2: complete without that, then you don't understand the gospel. Because
- 6:06Speaker 2: once we understand the gospel, our joy is never complete
- 6:13Speaker 2: unless and until the gospel is having its full impact
- 6:17Speaker 2: and full effect here and its full impact and full
- 6:21Speaker 2: effect out there. That's what we desire more than anything else,
- 6:26Speaker 2: more than anything else. Good laws, I'll praise God for
- 6:32Speaker 2: good laws. Good lawmakers, I'll praise God for good lawmakers, whatever.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Am I counting on that? Nope, not by a long shot.
- 6:41Speaker 2: We're pulling our hair out. Oh, California has gay marriages.
- 6:44Speaker 2: They're happening right now. Can you believe it? Here's a newsflash.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They got the law they wanted and it still happened.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Did you know that?
- 6:57Speaker 2: California got the law they wanted. Homosexual marriages are taking
- 7:02Speaker 2: place right now all over my home state of California,
- 7:06Speaker 2: even though Californians went and 61% of them voted and
- 7:11Speaker 2: they got the law passed that they wanted. But here's
- 7:14Speaker 2: the problem. The problem in California is not the law.
- 7:21Speaker 2: The problem is the depravity of man. And law can't
- 7:26Speaker 2: fix that. You know what you do when you put
- 7:30Speaker 2: up a law against the depravity of man? It's like
- 7:34Speaker 2: putting up a levy against a flood. You know when
- 7:38Speaker 2: you put up a levy against a flood, you don't
- 7:40Speaker 2: stop the flood. Floods don't stop.
- 7:43Speaker 1: They just get diverted.
- 7:49Speaker 2: We get the levy up high enough here, all we
- 7:52Speaker 2: did was let the flood go down there With our laws,
- 7:58Speaker 2: we're getting up the levees. Am I against getting up
- 8:01Speaker 2: the levees? No, no, no, I'm not against getting up
- 8:03Speaker 2: the levees. But here's my point. I want the hearts
- 8:08Speaker 2: and minds of men. I want souls saved. I'm not
- 8:17Speaker 2: satisfied when that homosexual couple.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Is not allowed to to.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Walk to a courtroom in California or Massachusetts or anywhere
- 8:28Speaker 2: else and get married.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I don't say, whew.
- 8:32Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no. I'm not satisfied and my
- 8:38Speaker 2: joy is not complete until the gospel has penetrated those
- 8:43Speaker 2: lives and they have been released, saved, and rescued from
- 8:49Speaker 2: their depravity. Until then, my joy is not complete. What?
- 8:53Speaker 2: How could my joy be complete with individuals who are condemned?
- 8:58Speaker 2: They're still condemned. They didn't get to do what I
- 9:01Speaker 2: didn't want them to do. Who cares? I want them redeemed.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That's what I want. That's when our joy is complete.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Only at the point and only at the place of redemption.
- 9:17Speaker 2: That's what we're after. Do we always get it?
- 9:22Speaker 1: No.
- 9:23Speaker 2: We don't always get it. But that's God's business, not ours.
- 9:30Speaker 2: We just proclaim. And we continue to proclaim. And we
- 9:33Speaker 2: proclaim and proclaim and proclaim again. And some of the
- 9:37Speaker 2: people to whom we need to proclaim are individuals who
- 9:40Speaker 2: think they're among us. Because they've heard a perversion of
- 9:47Speaker 2: the gospel. They've heard a man-centered gospel. emotionally, spiritually manipulative,
- 9:55Speaker 2: Jesus exists to make you happy version of the gospel.
- 10:00Speaker 2: and what they need is the God of this universe
- 10:05Speaker 2: created this world and everything in it he owns it
- 10:10Speaker 2: he runs it and he reigns supreme over it and
- 10:14Speaker 2: that means you got a problem and your problem is
- 10:17Speaker 2: you your problem is your sin God addresses your problem. How?
- 10:25Speaker 2: Because that king, that lord, that master wrapped himself in
- 10:29Speaker 2: flesh and entered into history as a man. He entered
- 10:33Speaker 2: into history as a man and revealed himself to men
- 10:36Speaker 2: so that they could record for us the fact that
- 10:38Speaker 2: number one, he kept the whole law and was righteous. Therefore,
- 10:43Speaker 2: he can impute righteousness to those who place their faith
- 10:46Speaker 2: in him. And number two, he died for sin. Once
- 10:49Speaker 2: for all, the just for the unjust in order that
- 10:51Speaker 2: he might bring us back to God. And because of
- 10:53Speaker 2: his active and passive obedience. He pays the penalty that
- 10:58Speaker 2: we owed and can impute to us righteousness and then
- 11:01Speaker 2: and only then can you and I stand forgiven before
- 11:05Speaker 2: a holy and just and righteous God when we repent
- 11:09Speaker 2: of our sin and place our faith in the Lord
- 11:12Speaker 2: Jesus Christ and not before. That's what we proclaim because
- 11:22Speaker 2: that's what brings us unity. If we don't get there,
- 11:26Speaker 2: We don't get unity. And it's only the proclamation of
- 11:33Speaker 2: the gospel and it's only the proper response to the
- 11:37Speaker 2: gospel that brings us to a place where our joy
- 11:41Speaker 2: is made complete. I don't just want you to not
- 11:47Speaker 2: do bad stuff. I want God to save you and
- 11:52Speaker 2: for you to not be who you are. but to
- 11:55Speaker 2: be a new creature in Christ. If you're struggling to
- 12:00Speaker 2: not do bad stuff, that's not gospel living. Gospel living
- 12:05Speaker 2: is we're more than conquerors. If you're one of those
- 12:09Speaker 2: individuals who's been manipulated and cheated, my prayer for you
- 12:16Speaker 2: is that you would come to a place of authentic
- 12:18Speaker 2: faith and genuine repentance before Almighty God that you would
- 12:24Speaker 2: trust in him and him alone, the finished work of
- 12:27Speaker 2: Jesus Christ on the cross, his active and passive obedience,
- 12:30Speaker 2: his imputed righteousness unto you, and his penal substitutionary atoning
- 12:35Speaker 2: death on the cross, that and nothing but that, that
- 12:39Speaker 2: you would see your sinfulness for what it is, that
- 12:42Speaker 2: you would flee from it with everything that you have,
- 12:45Speaker 2: that you would turn from it, and that you would
- 12:47Speaker 2: turn to Christ and to Christ alone to be redeemed,
- 12:51Speaker 2: to be forgiven, and to be saved. No, no, no, no, no.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I'm not satisfied and my joy is not complete until
- 13:03Speaker 2: the gospel has penetrated those lives and they have been released, saved,
- 13:10Speaker 2: and rescued from their depravity. Until then, my joy is
- 13:15Speaker 2: not complete. How could my joy be complete with individuals
- 13:20Speaker 2: who are condemned and They're still condemned, but they didn't
- 13:23Speaker 2: get to do what I didn't want them to do.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Who cares? I want them redeemed. That's what I want.
- 13:32Speaker 2: That's when our joy is complete. Only at the point
- 13:36Speaker 2: and only at the place of redemption. That's what we're after.
