- 0:04Speaker 1: The Joe Rogan Experience.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night, all day.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Check it, check it, check it, check it. What's up?
- 0:16Speaker 1: How you feeling? What's going on? Oh, man.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Back from an amazing Thailand vacation.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Oh, really? After that.
- 0:25Speaker 2: After the fight. It just feels like I've been... on
- 0:30Speaker 2: like just a great vacation journey. Baku was amazing. Let
- 0:34Speaker 2: me start off there. Let me start off with Baku, Azerbaijan.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Oh my God. What a place. I heard it's amazing there.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Absolutely incredible. Everybody who went there was raving about how
- 0:45Speaker 1: great it was. Absolutely incredible.
- 0:46Speaker 2: When we got the news, like, okay, the fight's going
- 0:50Speaker 2: to be postponed. It's going to go into Baku. I
- 0:52Speaker 2: had never heard of the place in my life. Um,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I agreed without even looking it up, you know, but
- 0:57Speaker 2: in my mind I was thinking like, okay, this is,
- 1:00Speaker 2: place I've never heard of. You know, I started thinking like,
- 1:03Speaker 2: I don't know, it's probably going to be something similar
- 1:05Speaker 2: to like Saudi and it's probably just like a lot
- 1:07Speaker 2: of desert.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Blah, blah, blah.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And I get there and my mind was absolutely blown.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Amazing treatment from Baku City Circuit welcomed us in. The
- 1:19Speaker 2: fans were some of the best I've ever encountered, man.
- 1:23Speaker 2: They were so happy to have the UFC there. Everyone
- 1:29Speaker 2: in the streets was like people who weren't even fight
- 1:31Speaker 2: fans were just excited that the UFC was in Baku.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So like that added to the experience.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And then, um, it's just beautiful, man. Like, what was
- 1:40Speaker 1: it like? What does it look like?
- 1:42Speaker 2: So where we were, yeah, so that's old town. So
- 1:45Speaker 2: I did a tour through there. Uh, four is old town.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I forgot. So I forgot, but I know that 4,000
- 1:52Speaker 2: people still live in old town. There's boutique hotels in there. Um,
- 1:57Speaker 2: there's just so much history. Um, as like when it
- 2:01Speaker 2: was built, um, kind of what they're known for. I
- 2:05Speaker 2: don't remember what that building is. Um, but the architecture
- 2:09Speaker 2: there is one of the things that that's the, uh, the,
- 2:12Speaker 2: the flame towers. So at night there's just projections and like,
- 2:17Speaker 2: it'll be like the flag or it'll just, it'll actually
- 2:20Speaker 2: be like flames. Um, because Baku is, uh, known for oil,
- 2:26Speaker 2: like being one of the first oil countries. This is
- 2:28Speaker 2: the Carpet Museum, an amazing place full of carpets that are, like,
- 2:33Speaker 2: century years old.
- 2:33Speaker 1: They built it to look like a carpet. How fucking
- 2:36Speaker 1: wild is that?
- 2:36Speaker 2: It's crazy. And all these carpets are handmade, like, passed
- 2:40Speaker 2: down generation after generation. So, like, they tell you how
- 2:43Speaker 2: deep the culture and, like, the stories of these carpets.
- 2:47Speaker 1: And, like, how, oh, my God. And clean, clean, friendly people.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I know a bunch of people that went there decided
- 2:56Speaker 1: to stay for a few days. Yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Honestly, I wish that I would have stayed longer. I've
- 3:02Speaker 2: already booked family trips. I've told everybody we're going back
- 3:05Speaker 2: to Baku.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Wow. Man. That's cool.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Just thinking about it, I'm like, dude, this is a
- 3:10Speaker 2: place that I want to visit for the rest of
- 3:14Speaker 2: my life. I want to just keep going back to Baku, man.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That's dope. Yeah, so. And obviously you had an amazing
- 3:20Speaker 1: result there too. Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I think, I think that the, you know, I think
- 3:24Speaker 2: that it really played into just my performance. I was
- 3:27Speaker 2: just in a really good place.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Let me, okay.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I was in a good place, but I was also
- 3:33Speaker 2: in kind of a fucked up state, like not going
- 3:35Speaker 2: to lie. Um, I was just so happy to be
- 3:40Speaker 2: across the world doing what I love to do and
- 3:44Speaker 2: to be like treated like we're actually appreciated for, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: like for what we do. And so that helped me
- 3:52Speaker 2: get through all the other shit.
- 3:53Speaker 1: What was the other shit? What was going on? Oh man.
- 3:56Speaker 2: So I knew that we were going to be jet
- 3:59Speaker 2: lagged no matter what. I knew it because we're traveling,
- 4:02Speaker 2: you know, super far.
- 4:03Speaker 1: 16 hour flight, right? Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Super long flight. So I knew we were going to
- 4:06Speaker 2: be jet lagged. So I made sure that we got
- 4:08Speaker 2: there two weeks early to adjust. It took about, six,
- 4:15Speaker 2: almost about a week to like fully adjust. And then,
- 4:18Speaker 2: so during fight week, say second day, first day of
- 4:22Speaker 2: fight week, I'm like thrown up and shit and nonstop.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, this is great. It is exactly what
- 4:32Speaker 2: I want to be feeling right now. You know, pressure's on,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I got to fight, you know, like I'm super motivated.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Um, yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And, uh, I'm just like, I don't know what I'm,
- 4:42Speaker 2: what am I going to do, man?
- 4:43Speaker 1: Like, What was it? I don't even know. Food poisoning?
- 4:47Speaker 2: I don't think so. Because everybody that I was with,
- 4:52Speaker 2: we all ate the same thing.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You were the only one who got sick? I was
- 4:56Speaker 1: the only one, man. I was the only one. And
- 4:59Speaker 1: you don't cut a ton of weight. No. So I
- 5:02Speaker 1: think what was... What do you walk around at?
- 5:05Speaker 2: Right now, I'm in vacation modem, you know, 228, 230,
- 5:08Speaker 2: something around there. That's still compared to guys.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I don't get over 230. Like Pereira. Yeah. He cuts
- 5:15Speaker 1: a ton.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I just do not let myself get over 230.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That's my oath to myself. Then in camp, what do
- 5:24Speaker 1: you get down to?
- 5:26Speaker 2: I'd say between 20 and 25 is where I like
- 5:29Speaker 2: to balance.
- 5:29Speaker 1: 220, 225.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Anytime in there, I'm good because I know that's where
- 5:33Speaker 2: I'm going to fight at.
- 5:35Speaker 1: When I'm in camp, it's... When do you start your cut?
- 5:41Speaker 2: The way that it happens is The last kind of
- 5:44Speaker 2: two weeks, I don't necessarily do too much of like
- 5:49Speaker 2: a diet change. It's just like I'm always looking to
- 5:53Speaker 2: peak on fight day, not like a peak plateau format
- 5:56Speaker 2: that a lot of people go by. So I'd say usually,
- 6:00Speaker 2: let's say we weigh in on Friday. That Tuesday, I'm
- 6:04Speaker 2: around 214 pounds.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 6:10Speaker 2: To 13, something like that.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Oh, that's nice.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And then, you know, those last days is kind of
- 6:14Speaker 2: like water load, proteins and fats only.
- 6:16Speaker 1: That's a nice cut.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I sit in the sauna no matter what, like an hour, maybe.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Like my weight cut this time took, I hit mitts
- 6:26Speaker 2: for an hour and a half. I laid down in
- 6:28Speaker 2: a sauna blanket and I was on weight. Like I,
- 6:31Speaker 2: so it was like under two hours for me to
- 6:33Speaker 2: be on.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So you're not depleted. Not at all. Feel good. And
- 6:36Speaker 1: how long did it take for that cold to get
- 6:38Speaker 1: out of your system or whatever it was?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Uh, I still felt it. Uh, I still felt it
- 6:45Speaker 2: a bit on fight day, but there was nothing that
- 6:47Speaker 2: was going to like my mind for like through this camp,
- 6:52Speaker 2: through this fight, man, like I'm so happy for everything
- 6:55Speaker 2: that I went through. Honestly, like there was nothing that
- 6:58Speaker 2: was going to take away like my shine or my
- 7:01Speaker 2: joy or my feeling of like being ready being prepared
- 7:05Speaker 2: um it was it was a battle with my mind
- 7:07Speaker 2: and every day I had to make.
- 7:08Speaker 1: A choice to like.
- 7:12Speaker 2: To just be better to be bigger to be To
- 7:15Speaker 2: be happy, to just embrace everything. This was all, everything's
- 7:20Speaker 2: just been about embracing the obstacles that come.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So the last time we talked was before the Pereira fight. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And it was a great fight. Thank you. You had
- 7:28Speaker 1: some great success. It was a tough fight. And then
- 7:33Speaker 1: what is it like after that fight? So you face
- 7:36Speaker 1: the best in the world, and you know that you
- 7:39Speaker 1: can hang with them. You lost the fight, but you
- 7:42Speaker 1: didn't gain a ton of experience from it. You went
- 7:44Speaker 1: five rounds with one of the greatest. And what is
- 7:47Speaker 1: it like after that? I'd say.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Everything seems very different now. I have been, since the
- 8:03Speaker 2: Pereira fight, I've been to, I'd say, more than six countries.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And there's fans there. Everyone knows who I am now.
- 8:14Speaker 2: And that is something that was a shock to me.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Especially coming off a loss and just knowing that, like,
- 8:26Speaker 2: I gave my all in that fight. And that's, I guess,
- 8:31Speaker 2: what the people wanted from me to get that type of, like, acknowledgement.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Because I'd been in the UFC for so long. But
- 8:38Speaker 2: that fight, I guess, really showed people, like, who I am.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And I got to show the world who I am. And, um,
- 8:44Speaker 2: against the guy like Alex. So now I feel like
- 8:48Speaker 2: I've at least kind of made my mark and been like, Hey,
- 8:53Speaker 2: I'm here, you know? And so people are now like, okay, Khalil,
- 8:56Speaker 2: I know this guy is, you can say the name
- 8:59Speaker 2: and now people kind of, you know, they're, they're familiar with,
- 9:03Speaker 2: with who I am now. Um, but the other thing
- 9:06Speaker 2: that it showed me was that I now know who
- 9:13Speaker 2: I am and what I'm capable of. I spent the
- 9:20Speaker 2: majority of that fight just soaking in the moment and
- 9:24Speaker 2: just like, oh, I'm here, I'm here, I'm here.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I was excited to be there.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I gave everything I had, but then going back and
- 9:30Speaker 2: watching it, I'm like, oh, I saw a lot of
- 9:32Speaker 2: the mistakes that I made.
- 9:34Speaker 1: What mistakes specifically?
- 9:35Speaker 2: The number one mistake that I think was made in
- 9:38Speaker 2: that fight is that it was my first five-rounder. And
- 9:44Speaker 2: when I was going into the fourth, because I took
- 9:46Speaker 2: a lot of damage in the middle to end of
- 9:49Speaker 2: the third. So I was up one and two. The
- 9:52Speaker 2: beginning of three, I was starting to kind of, he
- 9:57Speaker 2: started to kind of take over halfway through the round.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And once he started hitting me, I was like, Oh shit,
- 10:03Speaker 2: he's established his range. And now I'm feeling it. So
- 10:06Speaker 2: it wasn't necessarily like a cardio thing. It was just like,
- 10:09Speaker 2: I started taking damage and everybody knows this guy hits hard.
- 10:12Speaker 2: So I was taking the damage and, I was rocked.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I was dizzy going into the fourth in the, in
- 10:21Speaker 2: the break. I remember John Wood saying, all right, man,
- 10:25Speaker 2: like you're doing great. 10 more minutes. Like you can
- 10:28Speaker 2: do anything. 10 minutes. Just stick in there. We got this.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And because I wasn't familiar with the five rounds, I
- 10:36Speaker 2: took 10 minutes as sellout. So in the fourth round,
- 10:40Speaker 2: I came out like ready to, you know, I wasn't
- 10:44Speaker 2: thinking with the mindset of like, I'm up to, He
- 10:46Speaker 2: just took the third, fourth round. I need to maybe relax,
- 10:51Speaker 2: you know, maybe not get hit, you.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Know, whatever.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Fourth round, I came out, I bit down, and I
- 10:58Speaker 2: went to war. I think that's what lost me the
- 11:02Speaker 2: fight for me personally.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So you made a lot of adjustments in the Jamal
- 11:06Speaker 1: Hill fight. 1,000%. Yeah, you could see it. You could see,
- 11:09Speaker 1: first of all, what a performance. Thank you. I mean,
- 11:12Speaker 1: he dominated a world champion. I mean, dominated him. It
- 11:16Speaker 1: was such a clear-cut victory. And it was a victory
- 11:19Speaker 1: where a lot of people thought that you were going
- 11:20Speaker 1: to struggle with him. And, you know, you just really
- 11:25Speaker 1: showed a level above the Pereira fight. And I think
- 11:31Speaker 1: maybe part of it is what you're talking about, like
- 11:33Speaker 1: choosing when to engage and when not to engage. Like
- 11:36Speaker 1: there was moments in that fight where you were dominating
- 11:39Speaker 1: the fight, but there's moments where he was coming after you.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You just moved. You just moved. You moved away from him.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And I know it pissed him off. But it's like, hey, man,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you were way ahead. You were way ahead and you
- 11:50Speaker 1: were dominating the exchanges. Then when you chose to exchange
- 11:52Speaker 1: with him, you were hurting him and dropping him. It
- 11:55Speaker 1: was very impressive, man. Thank you.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And that was the product of really reviewing mistakes.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You also do some wild shit like standing hammer fists.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Is that something you practice? Were you practicing that?
- 12:12Speaker 2: Absolutely, man.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's a crazy move, man.
- 12:15Speaker 2: We're artists, you know. I think that that's one thing that,
- 12:17Speaker 2: you know, I try my best to always embody the
- 12:21Speaker 2: artist in mixed martial arts. I think it gets lost
- 12:24Speaker 2: in the growth of the sport of MMA, you know. But,
- 12:28Speaker 2: you know, from the past conversations we have and you
- 12:31Speaker 2: understanding kind of, how I was before, like, man, I
- 12:35Speaker 2: need some type of outlet for creativity, you know?
- 12:38Speaker 1: And I, that's what it is.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I mean, my mind, you know, just my essence is art.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So I'm like, how can I, you know, paint this
- 12:46Speaker 2: picture of like expression of combat?
- 12:49Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 12:50Speaker 2: Like there's so many different, we got, it's a lot,
- 12:53Speaker 2: we got Krav Maga, we got all these things and
- 12:55Speaker 2: it's like, let me paint, you know, like what can
- 12:58Speaker 2: I use.
- 12:59Speaker 1: To, you know, to, to, to, to, That's a bold
- 13:02Speaker 1: thing to do, to use something very creative like that
- 13:05Speaker 1: on a world champion, too. Jamal Hill's a dangerous guy.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he's dangerous, man. Standing hammer fist. Yeah, I'm dangerous, too,
- 13:14Speaker 2: you know. Oh, for sure. I always try to insert
- 13:21Speaker 2: myself into these things, too, because I think about it.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Alex, fucking hard hitter, dangerous guy. And I'm like, yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: so am I.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Let's do it, you know? Alex, or Jamal, same thing. Like,
- 13:30Speaker 2: I know he's got one punch power, you know, all
- 13:32Speaker 2: these things. I'm like, let me insert myself. Let me
- 13:35Speaker 2: take some chances.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Let me be bold. You know, I think that's the
- 13:39Speaker 1: fun part. I think there's an advantage that you have
- 13:41Speaker 1: also as a lighter guy in that division is that
- 13:43Speaker 1: you move quicker. And that was kind of evident in
- 13:46Speaker 1: that fight. You're like, you know, there's a range of
- 13:50Speaker 1: light heavyweights and you're on the smaller range. Like, there's
- 13:53Speaker 1: a lot of guys like Drikus, who's bigger than you,
- 13:55Speaker 1: who's the middleweight champion. He's fucking huge, man.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 1: It's the opposite thing, right? He's cutting a ton of weight.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I don't know what he cuts, but every time I
- 14:03Speaker 1: interview him, I'm like, how? Yeah. How the fuck are
- 14:06Speaker 1: you 185 pounds? You're enormous. He looks like a heavyweight. Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And he is a heavyweight when he fights. I mean,
- 14:11Speaker 1: he's over 205 for sure. Yeah. These guys, they blow up.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Blow up. And you don't. And I think because of that,
- 14:19Speaker 1: you have this, you have speed and not just speed
- 14:22Speaker 1: of the strikes and but the way you move in
- 14:24Speaker 1: and out, you know, it's like when you close the
- 14:27Speaker 1: distance on Jamal, you could see, it was like, there
- 14:29Speaker 1: were some moments where I think he was surprised by
- 14:32Speaker 1: the speed in which you were able to close the distance. Yeah.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I think so as well. Um, there were, yeah, there
- 14:38Speaker 2: were some reactions in there that I was picking up on. Um,
- 14:42Speaker 2: I could see a bit of frustration, you know? Um,
- 14:46Speaker 2: I feel like I was able to read a lot
- 14:48Speaker 2: of the things before they, you know, before they would come. And, um, Yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 2: I mean, I heard everything that his coaches were saying.
- 14:57Speaker 2: And in my mind, I was just seeing him struggle with, like,
- 15:00Speaker 2: not being able to react the way he wanted. And
- 15:03Speaker 2: maybe that was because, you know, there was the speed
- 15:07Speaker 2: that they weren't necessarily dealing with.
- 15:08Speaker 1: The speed and also the leg kicks. You fucked him
- 15:11Speaker 1: up early with leg kicks. Yeah. And it really had
- 15:14Speaker 1: a significant effect. When you see him switching stances and
- 15:17Speaker 1: he doesn't like to stand orthodox, it helps. You saw
- 15:20Speaker 1: a lot of changes. Yeah, he did.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I can say that, you know, there were some improvements made.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I think that he probably spent some more time working
- 15:29Speaker 2: on his footwork.
- 15:30Speaker 1: He was a lot less flat-footed than he usually is.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I could tell that, like, a lot of the times
- 15:36Speaker 2: his toes were pointed at me, and that wasn't what
- 15:41Speaker 2: I studied.
- 15:43Speaker 1: You know what I mean? So he made some changes.
- 15:44Speaker 1: He made some changes. He landed some very good leg kicks,
- 15:47Speaker 1: specifically in the first round. Yeah, thank you.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I always do my best to, you know, try to
- 15:53Speaker 2: channel my Muay Thai.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you're like one of the few, like I
- 15:58Speaker 1: remember we talked about that, about the Eric Anders fight.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Like when you came back from Thailand the first time,
- 16:03Speaker 1: you were fighting like a Thai. Me and DC were
- 16:06Speaker 1: having a blast with it. We're like, look at this.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Like light on the front foot. It was like totally
- 16:10Speaker 1: different approach. Yeah. But he landed some very good leg
- 16:14Speaker 1: kicks in the first round too. It was a good exchange,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but yours were doing a lot more damage.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 2: He started off with the leg kicks. Like I think
- 16:21Speaker 2: he threw maybe three or four calf kicks before I
- 16:25Speaker 2: actually started answering back. Um, yeah, he, so he started
- 16:31Speaker 2: it and I was.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Just like, okay, cool.
- 16:33Speaker 2: If this is the game we're playing, like, I love
- 16:35Speaker 2: this game, you know, like I love this game. So, um, Yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 2: it was a great fight, man.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Why did you start the beginning of the fight, like,
- 16:43Speaker 1: with your hands down, just, like, walking towards him?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Because that's how I felt, Joe. I mean, like, I
- 16:48Speaker 2: feel like in that fight, so there was not necessarily, like,
- 16:55Speaker 2: beef between Jamal and I. Like, we never really exchanged,
- 16:59Speaker 2: you know, there wasn't any, like, heated discussions or anything.
- 17:03Speaker 2: But we all have phones, we all have social media,
- 17:07Speaker 2: we all, you know, I get Google alerts and stuff
- 17:10Speaker 2: anytime I'm mentioned and so like I've seen things that
- 17:14Speaker 2: were said and I'm just like okay whatever I don't
- 17:16Speaker 2: agree with it and I don't you know whatever if
- 17:18Speaker 2: this guy looks at me as however that's just his opinion.
- 17:22Speaker 1: What was he saying like what was.
- 17:24Speaker 2: It just like I think it were like things again
- 17:26Speaker 2: about like the Alex fight or just saying that like
- 17:29Speaker 2: he's going to out-skill me or, you know, I don't
- 17:32Speaker 2: belong in the division. Just, you know, things like that. Like,
- 17:35Speaker 2: don't take my exact word for it, but that's kind
- 17:37Speaker 2: of how, like, that's the stuff that I kind of saw. So,
- 17:40Speaker 2: for me, there was no real reason to show any, like, respect.
- 17:46Speaker 2: You know, if we're in the same building, if we're
- 17:48Speaker 2: in the same room, I just, like, whatever. I wanted
- 17:51Speaker 2: to just kind of block him out. And then.
- 17:58Speaker 2: During the weigh-ins, so I had a press conference, and
- 18:04Speaker 2: they were saying like, hey, in the Alex fight, you know,
- 18:06Speaker 2: there was a lot of blood, you got cut up, da-da-da-da-da.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Can we expect the same thing from you in this fight?
- 18:12Speaker 2: And I said, no, there's not going to be any
- 18:13Speaker 2: blood on my face. How you're interviewing me now is
- 18:17Speaker 2: how you're going to interview me after the fight. I'm
- 18:19Speaker 2: going to look the same. He didn't like that. I
- 18:22Speaker 2: didn't say his name, but he didn't like that. And
- 18:24Speaker 2: so at the weigh-ins, he comes, like, And mind you.
- 18:29Speaker 1: We had.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Three days before the weigh-ins and we'd seen each other
- 18:36Speaker 2: in the hotel room and blah, blah, blah, or in
- 18:38Speaker 2: the hotel, you know, there were many more opportunities for
- 18:41Speaker 2: him to say what he said, but he chose to
- 18:43Speaker 2: do it at the weigh-ins in front of Dana White.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And I thought that was like, come on.
- 18:48Speaker 1: What did he say?
- 18:49Speaker 2: He said, oh, you're going to bleed.
- 18:51Speaker 1: You're going to bleed.
- 18:53Speaker 2: You better believe that. You're going to bleed. Like in
- 18:55Speaker 2: my face, like, oh, I'm going to make you bleed.
- 18:56Speaker 1: And I was just like, okay, like. Sure.
- 19:01Speaker 2: You know, like that was just really like internally like, okay, sure.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever. And why did you think that you wouldn't
- 19:08Speaker 1: get cut? Like what made you think?
- 19:12Speaker 2: I knew how I've been training and what I'm prepared for.
- 19:15Speaker 2: And I know the type of athlete and fighter and
- 19:18Speaker 2: man that I am. And I just knew that it
- 19:19Speaker 2: wasn't going to happen. I was just that confident in
- 19:22Speaker 2: my abilities and the work that I put in that
- 19:24Speaker 2: I just knew it wasn't going to happen.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It's pretty wild also considering you're coming off of a loss.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So you get more confidence coming off of a loss.
- 19:31Speaker 2: 100% because the loss just showed me that there's more
- 19:35Speaker 2: work to do. You know, like people always say back
- 19:38Speaker 2: to the drawing boards and like it was more than
- 19:40Speaker 2: the drawing boards for me. It was like back to
- 19:42Speaker 2: the dirt, back to the Vegas weather, back to the
- 19:46Speaker 2: dying on the assault bike, back to challenging myself, back
- 19:49Speaker 2: to going deeper. Who am I really, what am I
- 19:52Speaker 2: really capable of? And you know, like that, that was it.
- 19:56Speaker 2: It was just like deep, deep internal digging to get
- 20:01Speaker 2: out and to discover what I'm made of. And so
- 20:07Speaker 2: in that comes confidence and that comes like, I, I
- 20:10Speaker 2: know what I'm capable of and I know what I
- 20:12Speaker 2: can do. And so that's how I felt, you know?
- 20:17Speaker 2: So that's why I walked out like that because.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I was just like, cause it was kind of wild.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I was like, what is he doing?
- 20:24Speaker 2: But I was also prepared, you know, like I didn't
- 20:26Speaker 2: want to rush anything. Like nothing needed to be rushed.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Like the cage is closed and we got 25 minutes and,
- 20:32Speaker 2: I'm going to run out, you know?
- 20:34Speaker 1: Right, right, right.
- 20:35Speaker 2: No, like, walk here. I know that you're not going
- 20:38Speaker 2: to do anything. I wasn't threatened. Like, that statement in
- 20:43Speaker 2: my face didn't.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Like, I was just like, here we go again. You
- 20:51Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, another guy that wants to, like,
- 20:53Speaker 1: get in my face. Like, yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 2: And I did the job that needed to be done.
- 20:59Speaker 1: This is a very measured performance. And some people didn't
- 21:02Speaker 1: like that. Some people, you know, at the casuals, I
- 21:06Speaker 1: think there's casuals that they wanted to see blood. They
- 21:08Speaker 1: just want to see chaos. They don't care about your health.
- 21:11Speaker 1: They don't care about.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Me at the age of 50 with, you know what
- 21:14Speaker 2: I mean? When this is all over and I want
- 21:17Speaker 2: my knees and my hands and my fingers and everything
- 21:19Speaker 2: to work.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:20Speaker 2: And I want to be able to speak sentences and
- 21:22Speaker 2: go through the airport. on both my feet and not
- 21:25Speaker 2: in a wheelchair they don't care about that no and
- 21:27Speaker 2: that's okay yeah it's okay I mean you know like the.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Only time it bothers me when referees react like when
- 21:35Speaker 1: referees separate people because of booing like don't.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Do that don't do that yeah you can't the referees
- 21:41Speaker 2: can't be influenced by.
- 21:42Speaker 1: The crowd don't give in to the casuals you can't
- 21:44Speaker 1: man um cause I thought it was a very smart
- 21:47Speaker 1: performance like if you're gonna fight a guy like Jamal
- 21:49Speaker 1: who's an awesome counter striker one punch knockout power got
- 21:53Speaker 1: a series of bodies behind him. Like he's knocked out
- 21:56Speaker 1: a lot of dudes. Yeah. He knows how to do it.
- 21:58Speaker 1: You got to fight him smart. For sure. And that's
- 22:01Speaker 1: what you did.
- 22:01Speaker 2: And I wasn't, yeah, just like to be clear, I
- 22:04Speaker 2: know the things that I said can come off as
- 22:06Speaker 2: like overly confident or whatever. I wasn't sleeping on Jamal,
- 22:09Speaker 2: you know, like I knew what he was capable of
- 22:12Speaker 2: and I trained hard for him.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I really did. Every day was, was dedication. Every day was,
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know, strategy and planning. When did you feel like
- 22:20Speaker 1: everything was coming together in the fight? Uh, before the fight. Really? Yeah.
- 22:27Speaker 2: The, the, the, the win for me happened before the fight. Um,
- 22:34Speaker 2: like I said, I think with camp, um, the training,
- 22:41Speaker 2: you know, my head trainer, like with John, with Lorenzo,
- 22:44Speaker 2: Christian is just the guys who are in my circle. Um,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and the work that we do, I just, that really
- 22:50Speaker 2: helped me with, you know, a lot, a lot of
- 22:52Speaker 2: confidence and a clear vision and a path to victory.
- 22:55Speaker 2: And I just stuck to it. So I just had
- 22:58Speaker 2: a feeling that if I, if I stick to the plan,
- 23:01Speaker 2: I win this fight.
- 23:03Speaker 1: And you did. Yeah, it was, it was very measured,
- 23:07Speaker 1: very smart in a, and I liked it. I really
- 23:10Speaker 1: enjoyed it. Thank you. I enjoyed it because I like
- 23:12Speaker 1: when people fight smart. I really do. When people maximize
- 23:15Speaker 1: the amount of damage that they put out, minimize the
- 23:17Speaker 1: amount of damage they receive in return. That's what you did. Yeah.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And so, yeah, now we got the next one. Yuri Prohaska. Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Did you see that news? I did. Just saw it yesterday. Yeah.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Um, so this is, man, I'm excited about this fight.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I really am.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Um, another guy who's, you know what I mean? Like
- 23:35Speaker 2: former champion, very skilled, very dangerous.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Um, Another guy who's gotten a lot better since the
- 23:41Speaker 1: Pereira fight, too.
- 23:42Speaker 2: He's gotten a lot better since the Pereira fight. He's dynamic. He's,
- 23:45Speaker 2: you know, he's strategic. He's awkward as fuck, too. Yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 2: he can be awkward.
- 23:50Speaker 1: He's so weird. He's the weirdest.
- 23:53Speaker 2: And it's in Vegas, so this is great. It's going
- 23:56Speaker 2: to be the first time since the Gokhan Saki fight
- 23:59Speaker 2: that I've been able to fight in front of a crowd.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Oh, is that really? In my hometown. No kidding.
- 24:03Speaker 2: That was the last.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Fight I had. That's crazy.
- 24:06Speaker 2: At T-Mobile Arena in front of the Las Vegas crowd.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I had not realized that.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Oh, wow. So that's huge. Don't have to fly. Don't
- 24:14Speaker 1: have to travel. Don't have to fly. Don't have to travel.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And then Las Vegas can come out and support a local.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So that's cool because with the growth of Las Vegas,
- 24:24Speaker 2: we're getting sports, got the Raiders, getting a baseball team.
- 24:29Speaker 2: You know, women's basketball, it's the local scene in Vegas
- 24:32Speaker 2: right now. I'm proud of it, you know, to come
- 24:35Speaker 2: from there and to see that now we have something
- 24:38Speaker 2: besides just gambling and, you know, all the debauchery.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 2: So it's going to be nice, and I'm very happy
- 24:48Speaker 2: to represent that night.
- 24:49Speaker 1: So how do you train for a guy like Yuri?
- 24:52Speaker 1: Like what do you do? I mean, are you going
- 24:55Speaker 1: to watch– a lot of tape on him like how
- 24:57Speaker 1: do you prepare for a guy like that that's very unusual.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Um without giving away too much i think that it
- 25:05Speaker 2: just requires you know study like passing any test you
- 25:10Speaker 2: know what i mean like it requires dedication and focus
- 25:14Speaker 2: and you know doing the right study making the right
- 25:17Speaker 2: adjustments um and training you know it's the rest i
- 25:23Speaker 2: think is is art How we go about solving the
- 25:29Speaker 2: problem is for everybody to enjoy. But I think that, yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 2: it comes from study and good training partners as well.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I think that's.
- 25:40Speaker 2: A huge thing in anybody's training camp.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Do you have anybody that could emulate that style? Or
- 25:48Speaker 1: will you even try? You know what?
- 25:52Speaker 2: To emulate someone's style, I think... is it's helpful. It is,
- 25:57Speaker 2: it is helpful, but it's very hard because you can
- 26:01Speaker 2: never really truly, you know, be someone. So someone can
- 26:05Speaker 2: give you certain looks that maybe you'll see. Um, so
- 26:09Speaker 2: I don't, I don't rely too heavily on, you know,
- 26:11Speaker 2: on people emulating. Um, but I do appreciate, you know,
- 26:17Speaker 2: bodies and people that are, um, around the same size
- 26:21Speaker 2: just so I can, you know, get used to that.
- 26:25Speaker 2: body contact of maybe someone who's a bit taller and
- 26:28Speaker 2: yeah not training with guys who are maybe shorter you
- 26:30Speaker 2: know like if i had a short guy who can
- 26:32Speaker 2: emulate my opponent it's not gonna help you know it
- 26:37Speaker 2: doesn't help right so if i have if i have
- 26:39Speaker 2: a taller guy who maybe can't emulate and i can
- 26:41Speaker 2: do what i want to do against a taller body
- 26:44Speaker 2: then the rest is up to like my awareness and
- 26:47Speaker 2: like making sure that you know a guy who maybe
- 26:50Speaker 2: has this weird style like okay i'm I'm aware of that,
- 26:53Speaker 2: but I know what I can do against someone of
- 26:56Speaker 2: the same size.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Yuri's just, he's so unusual in that a lot of
- 27:00Speaker 1: times his hands are down really low, his stance is
- 27:03Speaker 1: very wide, and he moves back and forth like a cobra. Like,
- 27:07Speaker 1: he hinges at the waist more than probably anybody. He
- 27:10Speaker 1: does a lot of unusual stuff that you could see guys, like,
- 27:15Speaker 1: try to adjust to that when they're inside the cage
- 27:18Speaker 1: with him. It's like, you know, this weird. moment we
- 27:21Speaker 1: have to think and consider these new possibilities.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Um yeah i think that uh you know like i
- 27:29Speaker 2: said i just i've just returned from you know a
- 27:33Speaker 2: reset um and yeah now as soon as i leave
- 27:39Speaker 2: here i'm you know i'm locked back into samurai mode
- 27:45Speaker 2: you know.
- 27:45Speaker 1: What'd you do in thailand we just trained were you
- 27:47Speaker 1: just vacationing or doing training it was incredible joe so.
- 27:51Speaker 2: My wife and I got invited to Thailand from the
- 27:55Speaker 2: Thailand Tourism Authority. So they invited us to come. They
- 28:00Speaker 2: hosted us in Bangkok. Amazing hotel. Dusit Thani Hotel. You
- 28:06Speaker 2: have to go. If you ever go to Bangkok, Dusit Thani.
- 28:10Speaker 2: So they hosted us. They took us to the smallest
- 28:15Speaker 2: province in Thailand called Samut Songkram. And in that province,
- 28:19Speaker 2: they are known for having the best coconuts in all
- 28:24Speaker 2: of Thailand. So all like coconut water, coconut sugar, all
- 28:28Speaker 2: that stuff most likely comes from Samut Sangkram.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Salt farm, a bee farm. What's a salt farm? Salt farm.
- 28:38Speaker 2: So they made these channels that come from the nearest
- 28:46Speaker 2: like body of water. And they get the salt. They
- 28:51Speaker 2: extract the salt from the sea. And then they create
- 28:54Speaker 2: a bunch of different things from it. You know, bath salts.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Oh, so they do it with some kind of machinery? No,
- 29:00Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, there's a little bit. Yeah, it looks
- 29:02Speaker 1: like this. Yeah, exactly. Huh. Oh, so they do it
- 29:05Speaker 1: by hand.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they do it by hand. These people, they're out there. Yeah,
- 29:09Speaker 2: just this is their daily life. And so we got
- 29:11Speaker 2: to hang out with these people that live in this area.
- 29:16Speaker 2: problems that's how they do it yeah man i would.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Have never known so how are they getting salt out
- 29:21Speaker 1: of the water like that like what do you do.
- 29:23Speaker 2: To i honestly like i was so excited to be
- 29:27Speaker 2: there that i probably missed out on a lot of
- 29:29Speaker 2: the details but that's how it looked like there were
- 29:31Speaker 2: these windmills and i know they're like yeah the water
- 29:36Speaker 2: evaporates and then there's like salt left at the bottom
- 29:41Speaker 2: and then yeah they rake it into a pile and
- 29:45Speaker 2: then it goes through other processes but um it's really
- 29:49Speaker 2: cool to just experience like they're very passionate about and
- 29:52Speaker 2: there's different salts from everywhere like that up there on
- 29:55Speaker 2: the right is salt i don't know where it.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Came from but that stuff that looks like like dark,
- 30:01Speaker 1: like cereal. Yeah. It's salt. It's like cereal. No, but like, yeah. Cornflakes,
- 30:06Speaker 1: toasted cornflakes. Um, that's all.
- 30:09Speaker 2: But yeah. And so they had different like salts that
- 30:12Speaker 2: came from everywhere and you can see, um, how, how
- 30:16Speaker 2: it forms based off of like the, you know, the
- 30:20Speaker 2: whatever ecosystem.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Um, yeah.
- 30:24Speaker 2: So, so cool. So that's Samut Sakan. We were in
- 30:27Speaker 2: Samut Sangkram and, uh, really cool, man. So they, we
- 30:31Speaker 2: went on there, we went there. Um, they took a
- 30:33Speaker 2: bunch of, I guess, influencers from around the world and, uh,
- 30:37Speaker 2: flew them into Thailand to welcome us and show us
- 30:42Speaker 2: just different sides. It's not always about, you know, the
- 30:45Speaker 2: beaches and Phuket and all this stuff. Like they, they
- 30:47Speaker 2: took us and then spread us out. So that's where
- 30:50Speaker 2: we got to go. And then, um, we went back
- 30:53Speaker 2: to Bangkok and had this crazy cool gala, uh, um,
- 30:56Speaker 2: bull cow was there, you know, like, yeah, like all these,
- 30:59Speaker 2: you know, um, movie stars and, and the, uh, people
- 31:02Speaker 2: from just, uh, like the Thai government and stuff, just
- 31:07Speaker 2: showing people pretty much like the heart of Thailand. So
- 31:09Speaker 2: it was very welcoming. It was a really cool way to,
- 31:12Speaker 2: to kind of come back and, and feel home again. Um,
- 31:16Speaker 2: and then I ended up staying an extra week or two. Um,
- 31:22Speaker 2: same thing, Thailand tourism, you know, made sure that we
- 31:27Speaker 2: just continue that experience. So we stayed at some other hotels,
- 31:30Speaker 2: did like the boat ride cruise down the river, you know,
- 31:33Speaker 2: just had dinner, just really got to live it up
- 31:35Speaker 2: and experience, you know.
- 31:37Speaker 1: So it was all basically vacationing, not training?
- 31:39Speaker 2: No training because it was fresh out of the fight.
- 31:41Speaker 1: So I flew.
- 31:42Speaker 2: I was in Baku two weeks. I flew from Baku
- 31:47Speaker 2: to Vegas, stayed in Vegas eight hours, and then flew
- 31:51Speaker 2: from Vegas to Thailand. So I like went around the
- 31:54Speaker 2: world in like 24 hours.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Um, so I was fresh out the fight. So there was,
- 31:58Speaker 1: would it be closer to go from Baku to Thailand? Yeah.
- 32:02Speaker 2: But the trips were booked separately. So like in order
- 32:05Speaker 2: for that ticket to, you know, to actually work, I
- 32:07Speaker 2: had to be in Vegas to fly out. Um, but
- 32:11Speaker 2: I did it. I thugged it out. And, um, yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 2: it was, it was the best way to recover. Like
- 32:16Speaker 2: this was a good recovery recovery for me because I
- 32:18Speaker 2: started the camp, uh, for Jamal in February is when
- 32:23Speaker 2: I heard about it, but then it got postponed due
- 32:25Speaker 2: to like one of his injuries.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And, uh, yeah. Wow. Yeah. And now I'm back. And, um,
- 32:32Speaker 1: when you get a big victory like that over a
- 32:34Speaker 1: guy like Jamal, what does it, what does that feel
- 32:36Speaker 1: like in your head when you know the work paid off?
- 32:41Speaker 2: Uh, to just keep going. Um, and to just, to
- 32:45Speaker 2: just keep like, keep digging, you know, like it's, it's nice.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Cause I'm, Before, you know, like when I went on
- 32:56Speaker 2: that five-fight win streak, I was like coming back from
- 32:58Speaker 2: Thailand and like now I'm fully in this.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'm 100% in.
- 33:03Speaker 2: And with that, that means like I'm committed to digging
- 33:09Speaker 2: this tunnel. And so like a win over Jamal, like
- 33:13Speaker 2: that tunnel isn't open yet. Like I got to get
- 33:15Speaker 2: the belt first, you know. But I'm digging and I
- 33:18Speaker 2: saw like, oh, maybe I got this like cool– Jim Stone. Like, okay, cool,
- 33:22Speaker 2: put that in my bag. But, like, now I'm, you know,
- 33:25Speaker 2: I'm committed. I'm still in the mine, you know.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Eyes on the prize. Eyes on the prize, man. Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And the prize is, it's very interesting now, right? Because
- 33:35Speaker 1: Pereira lost to Ankalayev, and they're going to rematch on
- 33:38Speaker 1: that same card. Same card. Yeah, which is going to
- 33:40Speaker 1: be wild. Yeah. That's the main event. And then co-main
- 33:43Speaker 1: is Marab and Corey Sanhagen, which is another awesome fight. Yeah.
- 33:47Speaker 1: So it's going to be one of those cards. Yeah.
- 33:50Speaker 2: It's going to be a busy night for John Wood.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He's got me and Murab the same night.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Just those three fights. That's an insane card. Obviously, if
- 33:58Speaker 1: it stays together, MMA is rough with that. People get injured.
- 34:02Speaker 1: But if that card stays together the way it's pieced
- 34:05Speaker 1: up right now just with those three, I mean, whoo,
- 34:08Speaker 1: what a card. This is an advertisement from BetterHelp. Stress
- 34:11Speaker 1: in the workplace is becoming an issue around the world.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Did you know that 60% of the global workforce has
- 34:16Speaker 1: reported experiencing higher than normal levels of stress. So it's
- 34:21Speaker 1: more important than ever that we learn to take some
- 34:24Speaker 1: time for ourselves. Plan a nice long holiday this summer,
- 34:28Speaker 1: go hiking, read a book, play video games. I found
- 34:31Speaker 1: that even a few minutes of meditation can help. Another
- 34:34Speaker 1: great option is therapy. Everyone can benefit from it, and
- 34:38Speaker 1: it's arguably one of the better long-term solutions to stress.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Therapy can teach you how to positively cope and manage

- 35:26Speaker 2: From what I've seen so far and just the texts
- 35:28Speaker 2: that I've gotten, yeah, a lot of people are really
- 35:31Speaker 2: excited about it, which hypes me up and makes me
- 35:34Speaker 2: want to train smarter.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Well, Yuri, who also beat Jamal in one of his
- 35:40Speaker 1: last fights, looked fantastic in that fight. And coming off
- 35:44Speaker 1: of the Pereira fight, he also made some big changes
- 35:47Speaker 1: and big improvements. That's one of the things that makes
- 35:49Speaker 1: your fight with him so much more interesting. Yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Cause I, I'm sure from his last, even a loss
- 35:56Speaker 2: to Pereira, he, I knew him coming back. He mentioned
- 36:02Speaker 2: it like he wants, he wants to fight for the
- 36:04Speaker 2: title again. You know what I mean? Like, so he's,
- 36:07Speaker 2: he's hungry for the title again as well.
- 36:09Speaker 1: And so am I. And, yeah, we've both made the adjustments.
- 36:13Speaker 1: So I think it's... The thing is, though, it's like
- 36:16Speaker 1: he lost twice, you lost once. So it's like it's
- 36:19Speaker 1: a little tougher to sell his fight than it is
- 36:22Speaker 1: to sell a rematch with you. And I think you
- 36:25Speaker 1: probably had more success, certainly, than him in the second fight.
- 36:29Speaker 1: The second fight, he got kind of tuned up. Yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 1: I think second round. Yeah, second round was the head kick. Well,
- 36:35Speaker 1: the first round, he got dropped hard.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Dropped hard and then came out second round head kicked.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yeah. He was out of it going into the second.
- 36:42Speaker 1: And that left hook landed clean. Yeah. At the end
- 36:45Speaker 1: of the... It could have been the end of the
- 36:46Speaker 1: fight right there. Yeah. No, those... Pereira's got a different power, man.
- 36:53Speaker 1: For sure. Like, it's... It feels like a stone. Does it...
- 36:57Speaker 1: It feels remarkably different? Remarkably. Really? Yeah.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Getting punched... I've never been punched as hard as I
- 37:06Speaker 2: did when I fought Pereira.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Like, ever. In sparring....
- 37:11Speaker 2: There was just something– it's kind of crazy because, like,
- 37:16Speaker 2: you just– I give credit where credit's due. You know, like,
- 37:18Speaker 2: I don't want to gas him up too much. But
- 37:20Speaker 2: there is just one thing, and it's, like, I don't know.
- 37:23Speaker 2: I think that it's real. But it's obviously real.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's real.
- 37:30Speaker 2: The power of the strength is real. It's not anything lucky.
- 37:33Speaker 2: It's calculated.
- 37:34Speaker 1: But when it lands, it's, like, yeah. Now, he was
- 37:37Speaker 1: a guy I talked to big time when he was
- 37:38Speaker 1: in glory. When I found out he was coming over
- 37:40Speaker 1: to the UFC, I was like, buckle up because this
- 37:43Speaker 1: is just different. He just hits different. And, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 1: his frame's different too. He moves different.
- 37:51Speaker 2: I remember during the weigh-ins when we faced off and
- 37:58Speaker 2: he just bent his arms up like this. And I
- 38:01Speaker 2: was like, fuck, this is a big man. We weigh
- 38:04Speaker 2: the same, but like, you know, like that, I was like, okay,
- 38:07Speaker 2: this is a big guy. Like, cause he just bent
- 38:09Speaker 2: his arms and like his, his hand was kind of
- 38:11Speaker 2: like right near my face. So I could see just like,
- 38:14Speaker 2: you know, the mass, the mass.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So it's like, boom. And it was, I was like, okay.
- 38:18Speaker 1: How the fuck did that guy weigh 185? I don't know.
- 38:20Speaker 1: That's what I want to know. Yeah. I don't know.
- 38:22Speaker 1: What kind of torture was he doing? Torture, man. It
- 38:24Speaker 1: must've been unbelievable. I think that's one of the things
- 38:27Speaker 1: that contributed is, is he knocking them out? Other than
- 38:30Speaker 1: the perfect punch. I mean, Izzy landed an absolutely perfect punch.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:33Speaker 1: But I think, I mean, it's well noted that when
- 38:36Speaker 1: guys lose that much weight, they're a little bit more
- 38:39Speaker 1: vulnerable to getting hit. Yeah. 100%, man.
- 38:42Speaker 2: And you watched the Poirier fight, I'm sure. Oh, yeah,
- 38:47Speaker 2: you were there, no?
- 38:48Speaker 1: No, I wasn't there. You weren't there. The last one.
- 38:50Speaker 1: You mean with Max? Yeah, with Max.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Pretty sick, man.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Very good.
- 38:53Speaker 2: I was very happy.
- 38:54Speaker 1: And what a cool, like, I don't know.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I like what the UFC is doing now with, like,
- 38:59Speaker 2: the exits. You know, like, Anthony Smith got a sick exit. Like,
- 39:03Speaker 2: Dustin's got a sick exit.
- 39:04Speaker 1: For me, I don't know.
- 39:05Speaker 2: That was kind of one of the highlights of that
- 39:08Speaker 2: night for me. Not only did I feel like they
- 39:10Speaker 2: both put on a really good fight, I just thought, like,
- 39:13Speaker 2: what a cool way to be able to just, like,
- 39:17Speaker 2: do that much work.
- 39:18Speaker 1: And then, like, be appreciated for it. Like, win or lose.
- 39:21Speaker 1: I think, yeah, maybe the tides are changing a little bit. Maybe,
- 39:24Speaker 1: you know. In what way? What do you mean?
- 39:26Speaker 2: Like, I felt like for a long time, and still
- 39:31Speaker 2: to this day, it's still pretty, like, heavy, but to
- 39:36Speaker 2: lose in MMA was almost kind of like the end
- 39:39Speaker 2: of the world to the fans.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Because it is in boxing.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:44Speaker 1: In boxing, everybody wants to be undefeated.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Yeah, like, undefeated and, like, you know, sometimes, like, someone
- 39:50Speaker 2: can be on a tier and then they, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 2: they lose. And then like, you can just see the
- 39:54Speaker 2: direction of the, of the support, like completely shift, like, ah, fluke,
- 39:59Speaker 2: you know? But, um, yeah, I think that it's, you know,
- 40:04Speaker 2: when I see things like, you know, Dustin's exit and
- 40:06Speaker 2: all that stuff, granted, he did a lot in the
- 40:09Speaker 2: company and he's, he's done a lot in his career,
- 40:12Speaker 2: but to see that kind of gave me hope, like, okay,
- 40:14Speaker 2: maybe this will, you know, give the fans a little
- 40:17Speaker 2: bit of different perspective and, Maybe it can start to
- 40:20Speaker 2: shift towards like.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Appreciating people. Appreciating the fighter man. Yeah.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Like appreciating the fighter for. For what we do. It's not.
- 40:29Speaker 2: It's not the easiest job. We don't get paid the most.
- 40:33Speaker 2: You know like.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So like yeah. Like a little appreciation goes a long way.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Win or lose. For sure. Yeah. I hope the tide
- 40:40Speaker 1: is turning in that direction too.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Man.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I just. People need to. It's like. Again. It's casuals.
- 40:47Speaker 1: It's like. People love. Because one of the things that
- 40:50Speaker 1: I really struggled with in the early days of commentary
- 40:53Speaker 1: is that regular sports people were starting to do MMA commentary.
- 40:58Speaker 1: And they were talking about fighters the same way they
- 41:01Speaker 1: would talk about, like, a football player who drops a
- 41:04Speaker 1: pass or a basketball player who misses a shot very disrespectfully. Yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 1: choked they were saying they were saying a lot of
- 41:12Speaker 1: shit i was like hey hey hey you don't know
- 41:15Speaker 1: what the fuck you're talking about like this is the
- 41:17Speaker 1: wrong sport to be coming over here and talking like
- 41:19Speaker 1: that for sure you know and the early days in
- 41:21Speaker 1: particular there was a lot of that there was a
- 41:24Speaker 1: lot of people that they wanted to get credit for
- 41:27Speaker 1: their work by just being that arrogant you know there's
- 41:30Speaker 1: like a bunch of those people in the sports world
- 41:33Speaker 1: that are just like insulting and then There's a long
- 41:37Speaker 1: history of athletes meeting those people and fucking them up
- 41:40Speaker 1: and slapping them. It's super disrespectful, and I don't know why.
- 41:45Speaker 1: But there's a culture, particularly in America, that embraces that
- 41:51Speaker 1: and that likes that because– That's the kind of talk that, like,
- 41:54Speaker 1: dum-dums have when they're on the job. Like, did you
- 41:57Speaker 1: see him last night? Fucking loser. Yeah, yeah. Missed that three-pointer.
- 42:01Speaker 2: You should have passed the ball.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Like, you know, shut the fuck up, man. I hate
- 42:08Speaker 1: that shit. I hate that shit because I didn't do
- 42:10Speaker 1: a lot of team sports. You know, I only was
- 42:13Speaker 1: involved mostly in combat sports when I was a kid.
- 42:15Speaker 1: And so disrespect like that was like, God, you don't
- 42:18Speaker 1: know what you're even talking about. Yeah, it's annoying, man.
- 42:21Speaker 1: You don't understand what this is. These guys are risking
- 42:24Speaker 1: their fucking life. It's different than everything else you watch.
- 42:28Speaker 1: You miss a basketball, you miss it going at the hoop. Okay. Yeah.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Next day, you know, you get to shoot some more
- 42:34Speaker 1: basketballs and practice and then you'll be playing in a
- 42:37Speaker 1: few days and you're back at it. Yeah. With fighting,
- 42:40Speaker 1: it's your fucking soul. It's everything. 100%. Broken nose. People
- 42:45Speaker 1: calling people bums. It's like, shut your mouth. Yeah, dude. Stop. Yeah.
- 42:51Speaker 1: It's super annoying.
- 42:52Speaker 2: And that also brings to thought, like, I went to
- 42:55Speaker 2: the ESPYs and that was really cool. Like, first time
- 42:59Speaker 2: going to the SBs and seeing all these other athletes,
- 43:03Speaker 2: you know, that we see on football, you know, just
- 43:05Speaker 2: on television, being in the same room.
- 43:09Speaker 1: It was amazing.
- 43:10Speaker 2: And I remember seeing just like the opening video. And
- 43:17Speaker 2: I think there might have been maybe one clip of
- 43:20Speaker 2: an MMA fight. But I'm listening to all the like
- 43:25Speaker 2: awards given out and, you know, best play and all
- 43:27Speaker 2: this stuff. And I was just thinking, man, I know
- 43:30Speaker 2: MMA is new and obviously it's growing because we're here. And,
- 43:36Speaker 2: you know, they got Jon Jones in the crowd and
- 43:38Speaker 2: they got Marab here, you know.
- 43:40Speaker 1: So it's growing.
- 43:41Speaker 2: They're starting to acknowledge us. But, like, I can't wait
- 43:43Speaker 2: until the day where, like, there's more fights on, you know,
- 43:47Speaker 2: on in the ESPYs.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Yeah. We're what? we're doing great things.
- 43:54Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 43:54Speaker 1: I feel like it's the most exciting sport on earth.
- 43:56Speaker 1: It's so exciting.
- 43:58Speaker 2: And even like I had, you know, pro hockey players,
- 44:00Speaker 2: all these guys coming up like, Oh man, watch your foot.
- 44:02Speaker 1: You know?
- 44:02Speaker 2: So like the, even, even the athletes that are playing
- 44:05Speaker 2: the NFL, NHL and MLB, all these things, they're, they're
- 44:09Speaker 2: even watching what we're doing. So I think it's, you know, I'm,
- 44:13Speaker 2: I'm excited for the growth of the sport as well.
- 44:16Speaker 2: And I, you know, hopefully the next generation or even sooner,
- 44:20Speaker 2: we'll be able to, know what it's like to be
- 44:23Speaker 2: an MMA fighter and still get like an SB.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Award I wonder what's going to happen if the UFC
- 44:29Speaker 1: doesn't renew the ESPN contract because there's this negotiation thing
- 44:34Speaker 1: that's going on right now and I don't know where
- 44:36Speaker 1: they're going to land there's talk of Netflix there's talk
- 44:38Speaker 1: of other networks there's a bunch of different talk and
- 44:41Speaker 1: one of the things that we benefit from is ESPN
- 44:44Speaker 1: not just as the host of the fights but also
- 44:47Speaker 1: covering the fights all the additional coverage all the sports
- 44:50Speaker 1: center talk all the different Shows that they have on
- 44:54Speaker 1: ESPN Plus, the post-fight shows. Yeah. Those are all huge. Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 1: You know, the breakdown. People love that shit. Oh, they do.
- 45:00Speaker 1: They love the pre-fight breakdowns. Pre-fight breakdowns. Alan Joban. Alan Joban,
- 45:04Speaker 1: Karen Bryant. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I think, yeah, I think it's great.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Rashad Evans. It's got to stick around, man. I hope so.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I love ESPN. And I love getting it that way
- 45:17Speaker 1: off the app. It's easy, you know. And I think
- 45:21Speaker 1: it helps us too. I mean, it definitely helped the
- 45:23Speaker 1: sport grow, right? 100%.
- 45:24Speaker 2: And I think that people who, I think it helped
- 45:27Speaker 2: us as fighters gain those fans who are, you know.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Football fans. Oh, yeah.
- 45:30Speaker 2: People who just have ESPN on all day.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 45:33Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 45:34Speaker 2: Or in a PT clinic, it's just like, okay, ESPN's on,
- 45:37Speaker 2: you know? And to be able to, yeah, to be
- 45:40Speaker 2: shown through that, I think it's been really helpful to us.
- 45:44Speaker 1: And the thing is, it's like you can get converted
- 45:47Speaker 1: to a fan with one fight. all you need is
- 45:49Speaker 1: one undercard banger. One undercard banger. You're like, oh, shit.
- 45:54Speaker 2: I mean, that was me with the Alex fight. Honestly, dude,
- 45:57Speaker 2: like these people came out of nowhere. Like one fight
- 45:59Speaker 2: changed my life.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Wow.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Like one fight changed my life, dude.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Well, you dropped him. You had great moments in that fight. Yeah. Dude,
- 46:10Speaker 1: off topic, what's it like to be Joe Rogan these days?
- 46:13Speaker 1: What do you mean? What's it like? I'm here.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Welcome to the Khalil Roundtree experience. Today's guest, we have
- 46:23Speaker 2: Joe Rogan joining us.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Joe, how are you doing, man? It's pretty much the
- 46:27Speaker 1: same for me. Really? I get to sit down and
- 46:28Speaker 1: talk to cool people.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And I live my life pretty insulated. That's good. So
- 46:33Speaker 1: I don't deal with all the hoopla and chitter-chatter. Yeah.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I just keep it moving. Okay. That's the way to
- 46:41Speaker 1: stay sane. You got to just keep it moving. My
- 46:44Speaker 1: day is basically the same every day. Get up early, write,
- 46:47Speaker 1: shoot arrows, get in the cold plunge, lift weights, work out,
- 46:51Speaker 1: do what I got to do, come here. It's the same.
- 46:55Speaker 1: I go to the club, tell jokes, go home, go
- 46:57Speaker 1: to bed, rinse, wash, repeat. That's what I do. Nice.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I don't do anything any different. So as chaotic as
- 47:05Speaker 1: it seems, it's the same for me. I think what
- 47:08Speaker 1: fucks people up is when they get caught up in
- 47:10Speaker 1: other people talking about them. And then they get involved
- 47:13Speaker 1: in it. And then they start reading things. And they
- 47:15Speaker 1: start thinking, is that who I am? Or is this
- 47:17Speaker 1: who I am? Who's right? Am I a fucking loser?
- 47:21Speaker 1: Am I the coolest guy ever? Who am I? Just
- 47:25Speaker 1: keep working. I love that. Yeah, it's the only way.
- 47:28Speaker 1: The only way to not go crazy when you get
- 47:30Speaker 1: really famous is to keep doing exactly what you've always
- 47:33Speaker 1: been doing. And make sure you fucking burn yourself out.
- 47:38Speaker 1: You go hard all the time with everything you do.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Because if you don't, then you're going to just wonder,
- 47:44Speaker 1: you know, am I slipping? Is this, what's happening? Is
- 47:48Speaker 1: this all going to go away? Like, that's one thing
- 47:50Speaker 1: that people really do freak out about. Like, once they
- 47:52Speaker 1: start getting some success, what if it goes away? Yeah.
- 47:55Speaker 1: What if it goes away? And then you get imposter syndrome.
- 47:58Speaker 1: You don't think you should be there. And then if
- 48:00Speaker 1: you read a bunch of comments, you know, most comments
- 48:02Speaker 1: are negative.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:03Speaker 1: People telling you over and over again, you're a fucking loser.
- 48:06Speaker 1: You start going, God damn, am I a loser? Yeah.
- 48:08Speaker 1: You start reading things. I've seen it happen to fighters.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I've seen it happen to many fighters where they get
- 48:13Speaker 1: too caught up in reading comments and interacting with people
- 48:17Speaker 1: in a negative way online. It's just not good for you.
- 48:21Speaker 1: It's not smart. It's not the way. You're dealing with
- 48:27Speaker 1: the crabs. It's crabs in a bucket. There's a lot
- 48:30Speaker 1: of people out there that don't think the only way
- 48:32Speaker 1: for them to succeed is to pull you down. It's
- 48:35Speaker 1: a dumb mindset, but of course there's a lot of
- 48:39Speaker 1: people that They're not that aware of how much time
- 48:44Speaker 1: they're wasting. They're not aware of how much energy they're
- 48:48Speaker 1: wasting thinking about other people, constantly dwelling on the hating
- 48:52Speaker 1: and all the stupid shit. And they don't realize that
- 48:56Speaker 1: they're stealing from their own life. They don't realize it.
- 49:00Speaker 1: They're just caught in this weird trap because we have
- 49:02Speaker 1: this undefined new modality of communication, this social media modality,
- 49:08Speaker 1: this new thing, this new new device that you have
- 49:12Speaker 1: that interacts with your brain and oftentimes a very negative way.
- 49:17Speaker 1: And you're wasting hours and hours a day. How many
- 49:21Speaker 1: people look at their screen time on their phone? When
- 49:24Speaker 1: you do, you go, whoa, six hours. That's crazy. Six
- 49:27Speaker 1: hours that I could have been doing other shit? Obviously,
- 49:30Speaker 1: it's like 10 minutes here, five minutes there. But it
- 49:32Speaker 1: fucking adds up, man. It adds up.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It's like a work shift.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's really time. It's really energy. It's focus
- 49:42Speaker 1: that's just being robbed from you and with no reward.
- 49:47Speaker 1: That's what they don't understand. It's like you're getting robbed
- 49:51Speaker 1: and you're not getting anything back. There's nothing positive coming.
- 49:55Speaker 1: You're not growing. You're not getting smarter. You're not contemplating.
- 50:01Speaker 1: You're not getting wiser. No. You're just fucking... It's just,
- 50:05Speaker 1: you just, yeah. Just being like taken out of you.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Wow, dude.
- 50:09Speaker 2: That's no, that's, that's great. And it's a good, it's
- 50:13Speaker 2: a good reminder and refreshment for me to hear you
- 50:17Speaker 2: say that because how do I put it? Like, let's
- 50:22Speaker 2: say if I get asked question, like, how's Joe Rogan? Oh,
- 50:25Speaker 2: you've been on Joe Rogan podcast. Like, how is you?
- 50:27Speaker 2: And I'm always like, Joe's great. Like, tell me about this.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Is he that?
- 50:33Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, I'll say, I say this. I can
- 50:36Speaker 2: tell you here. I'll just give you like four things.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Every time we talk, it's fucking good.
- 50:41Speaker 1: We hang out. We talk. I feel like he likes me.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I like him.
- 50:45Speaker 2: It's always a great time too. There's a lot of books.
- 50:48Speaker 2: When I walk in there, there's a bunch of books,
- 50:50Speaker 2: all types of different books. I think Joe's a curious guy.
- 50:52Speaker 2: I think he's a smart guy. Well-read a lot of
- 50:55Speaker 2: cool things. Um, and it's, it's always just based around
- 50:58Speaker 2: like Yeah, when I think of you, I think just
- 51:01Speaker 2: genuine dude, good vibes.
- 51:03Speaker 1: I feel the same way about you.
- 51:05Speaker 2: And it's always fun to just come here and just, like,
- 51:09Speaker 2: chop it up with you. That's why, like, I guess
- 51:12Speaker 2: I just needed that own, like, I just wanted that
- 51:15Speaker 2: for myself to just be like, Joe.
- 51:18Speaker 1: What's up? How you doing?
- 51:19Speaker 2: And you tell me, like, cool.
- 51:21Speaker 1: I'm doing the same thing.
- 51:22Speaker 2: I wake up. I go to the gym. I shoot
- 51:23Speaker 2: my bows. You know, I go to the club. Like,
- 51:27Speaker 2: that to me, to know that just personally without being
- 51:30Speaker 2: one of those people that are just, like, sucked into
- 51:32Speaker 2: my phone or whatever, to just hear it come from
- 51:35Speaker 2: your mouth face to face, that's what you're up to.
- 51:38Speaker 1: That makes me feel great. I think it's the only
- 51:40Speaker 1: way to live. Yeah. I think getting– I mean, I've
- 51:42Speaker 1: been sucked into my phone before for sure. But now–
- 51:46Speaker 1: For the most part, if I spend time on my
- 51:48Speaker 1: phone at all, it's watching things. I watch, like, YouTube videos.
- 51:51Speaker 1: But it's always stuff on, like, it's either watching MMA,
- 51:56Speaker 1: Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing, or watching, like, YouTube videos on
- 52:01Speaker 1: ancient history. Interesting things. So I'm not interacting with opinions
- 52:06Speaker 1: and people. Yeah, and all that stuff. Yeah. The stuff
- 52:09Speaker 1: that'll piss you off. Yeah. And take from you.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Uh, do you ever watch like fighters YouTube channels?
- 52:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah. Have you seen mine? I
- 52:19Speaker 1: have seen yours. Oh, okay, cool. You like it? Yeah,
- 52:21Speaker 1: it's great. Okay.
- 52:22Speaker 2: It kind of, kind of inspired by you a little bit.
- 52:25Speaker 2: I remember you saying in the past, like, oh, you
- 52:27Speaker 2: should start a podcast. I was like, maybe not yet,
- 52:29Speaker 2: but how about a YouTube channel?
- 52:30Speaker 1: So, um. Well, people love behind the scenes stuff. They
- 52:34Speaker 1: really do. They love to see people train, training in particular,
- 52:38Speaker 1: you know? I spent a lot of time watching Usyk
- 52:41Speaker 1: training before this last Dubois fight. Yeah.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Was it crazy? I saw something the other day. It
- 52:46Speaker 2: was like Usyk swimming five hours.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I was like, oh, my God. He's an animal, man.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I mean, he's so fucking good. He's so good. I mean,
- 52:56Speaker 1: think about what that guy has done. He beat AJ twice.
- 53:00Speaker 1: He beat Tyson Fury twice. And now he beat Dubois twice.
- 53:04Speaker 1: That's crazy. No, it's incredible. Those are two of the best, like,
- 53:08Speaker 1: of this era. I think he's one of the best
- 53:10Speaker 1: of all time. I really do. I think he's one
- 53:11Speaker 1: of the best heavyweights of all time. And his movement
- 53:14Speaker 1: is so different. One of the things that was interesting,
- 53:19Speaker 1: they were talking about the fight, and AJ was, Tony
- 53:24Speaker 1: Bellows was talking about when he fought him, And AJ
- 53:26Speaker 1: was saying that when he fought him, it was the
- 53:29Speaker 1: most exhausted he's ever been. Because he's always moving. There's
- 53:36Speaker 1: no rest with him. There's constant twitching. Under fire the
- 53:40Speaker 1: whole time. You're constantly thinking, when is this coming? There's
- 53:44Speaker 1: no silent agreements. There's no relaxation. There's no rounds off.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Everything is he's putting it on you and moving constantly. Like,
- 53:54Speaker 1: I always say he's like a giant Lomachenko. Got it.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And they were both trained by the same guy. Oh,
- 53:59Speaker 1: were they? Yeah, Lomachenko's father trained Usyk as well. Ah. Yeah.
- 54:03Speaker 2: So there's something, yeah, there's something.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Obviously, gravity keeps him from moving the way Lomachenko does,
- 54:08Speaker 1: because Lomachenko's so small. Yeah. He can, like, dance around you.
- 54:12Speaker 1: For sure. And footwork, just majestic footwork. But Usyk's footwork
- 54:17Speaker 1: is like, it's, there's a bunch of breakdowns of the
- 54:20Speaker 1: final combination that he hit. daniel with and you know
- 54:24Speaker 1: he steps off to the side and lands that fucking
- 54:27Speaker 1: left hook from hell god it was good you could
- 54:31Speaker 1: see daniel was already tired you could see it's like
- 54:35Speaker 1: it's just dealing there's got to be something like you
- 54:38Speaker 1: know lomachenko's dad like some type of philosophy or something
- 54:41Speaker 1: you know what i mean like these guys just kind
- 54:44Speaker 1: of tap into you know because like to be a
- 54:46Speaker 1: big guy yeah.
- 54:46Speaker 2: There's footwork and all that stuff but think man shout
- 54:49Speaker 2: out to the coach like yeah.
- 54:51Speaker 1: It's skill man it's it's a skillful type of boxing
- 54:55Speaker 1: it's like a you know there's there's guys that are
- 54:57Speaker 1: like heavy bangers and they rely on that and there's
- 55:00Speaker 1: guys that have you know good defense and they rely
- 55:02Speaker 1: on that but his thing is like this constant movement
- 55:07Speaker 1: and constant feints and jabs and it's all with a
- 55:10Speaker 1: purpose everything is like setting you up everything is reading
- 55:14Speaker 1: what your reaction to this is and anticipating what your
- 55:17Speaker 1: reaction that is When's that right hand coming? Duck under counter. It's, like, constant.
- 55:21Speaker 1: The jab was going in an upward direction sometimes. He
- 55:24Speaker 1: was catching Daniel with this, like, upward jab. Here's the, oh, okay,
- 55:28Speaker 1: here's a breakdown. Yeah, I've only seen highlights. I actually
- 55:31Speaker 1: didn't get to watch. His fucking movement, man. It's so good, man.
- 55:35Speaker 1: It's so good, the movement. Boom. What's his age? Damn.
- 55:38Speaker 1: He's 38, man. Oh, my God. Yeah, that was a
- 55:41Speaker 1: solid left.
- 55:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he's old.
- 55:43Speaker 1: He's old for a boxer. You know, and the fact
- 55:45Speaker 1: that he was a cruiserweight champion, too. And that was
- 55:49Speaker 1: the first drop. But here's the big one. The left
- 55:52Speaker 1: hook that he knocks him out was extraordinary, man. What
- 55:57Speaker 1: are they showing here? Okay, the counters. Oof. This video
- 56:01Speaker 1: is just about his weight transferring. Yeah. No, it's amazing.
- 56:04Speaker 1: I mean, he's one of the most skillful heavyweights of
- 56:07Speaker 1: all time. I think you have to go back to
- 56:09Speaker 1: Cassius Clay. Yeah. Like, before they took his title away,
- 56:13Speaker 1: before they made him sit out for three years. Look,
- 56:16Speaker 1: there's the final left hook. Oh, my goodness. Look at
- 56:20Speaker 1: this counter. Steps off to the left and then full
- 56:23Speaker 1: weight into it. Really long. Like, you can tell that
- 56:27Speaker 1: weight transfer was everything. It's just constant footwork and movement.
- 56:32Speaker 1: And a lot of his training is that.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you can see it. He's never stationary.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Like, his feet are never in one place. They're constantly moving.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Well, there's a lot of Russian fighters who fight that way.
- 56:42Speaker 1: And obviously, he's from Ukraine. But, you know, Bivol fights
- 56:46Speaker 1: that way. There's a lot of these... Eastern block fighters
- 56:49Speaker 1: that have this movement style. There's a constant movement style.
- 56:54Speaker 1: There's a lot of value in that, man. When you
- 56:57Speaker 1: see flat-footed guys and you see guys who fight like that,
- 56:59Speaker 1: you go, man, there's something in that. That's extraordinary.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Flat-footed guys, I feel like a lot of them, that's
- 57:07Speaker 2: where they generate their power, right?
- 57:08Speaker 3: Sure.
- 57:08Speaker 2: Kind of like relying on that. Like a Deontay Wilder,
- 57:11Speaker 2: you know?
- 57:12Speaker 1: Sure.
- 57:13Speaker 2: If his feet are planted and you're up against the ropes, like, bye-bye.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Or George Foreman in his day. Oh, man. Yeah.
- 57:20Speaker 1: It's heavy plotting, you know, like moving forward like this,
- 57:23Speaker 1: covering up. But everything has just death on it. Yeah.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Just looping them. But a guy like, Dubois, he can
- 57:31Speaker 1: do that. That's the thing. That's how he fucked up AJ.
- 57:34Speaker 1: He has that crazy power. But when you're not getting
- 57:37Speaker 1: hit and you're just moving away and this guy's just
- 57:41Speaker 1: whiffing these nuclear bombs by you over and over again.
- 57:43Speaker 1: And then after a while, he's like, he's like headed
- 57:46Speaker 1: into the 30s. Like, oh, Jesus Christ. Yeah. This guy
- 57:49Speaker 1: is fucking not there. And I'm exhausted. And then you're
- 57:53Speaker 1: dealing with him like sparks are flying every time he's
- 57:55Speaker 1: hitting you and you don't know when these punches are coming.
- 57:58Speaker 1: Because they're coming from these weird angles and every time
- 58:01Speaker 1: you throw a punch, he's countering you and you're nervous
- 58:04Speaker 1: that which one of these is going to really rock me.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Dude, to be in that situation during a fight is, ugh,
- 58:12Speaker 2: it's the worst. I remember feeling like that in the
- 58:15Speaker 2: Alex fight. There was a few jabs and stuff. I
- 58:19Speaker 2: was obviously just dizzy and just dealing with like, okay,
- 58:25Speaker 2: this guy's not slowing down and I'm hurting.
- 58:29Speaker 1: You know like yeah around the fourth he started getting
- 58:31Speaker 1: that time when was the fight stopped.
- 58:34Speaker 2: Uh fourth round it was the fourth fourth round i
- 58:38Speaker 2: think like probably two.
- 58:42Speaker 1: And a half minutes in something like that he started
- 58:44Speaker 1: getting that rhythm where he's like moving away from stuff
- 58:47Speaker 1: and then yeah yeah yeah coming back in moving in
- 58:51Speaker 1: yeah but it was it was Unusual movement.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Obviously deceptive, but my eye was shut. I thought I
- 58:57Speaker 2: was blind in my eye, but I was like, okay, whatever.
- 58:59Speaker 2: I don't know what was going on with me in
- 59:02Speaker 2: that fight. I was so excited to be there. That's great.
- 59:06Speaker 2: I mean, even in the fight, like, not being able
- 59:08Speaker 2: to see out of my right eye at all. Like,
- 59:11Speaker 2: not blurred vision. It was just, like, all I saw
- 59:15Speaker 2: was just white light. Like, that's all I saw. And
- 59:18Speaker 2: in that moment, I was like, oh, I'm blind.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Fuck it. Wow.
- 59:22Speaker 2: Yeah, like, literally.
- 59:23Speaker 1: So, I don't know what it was. Like, maybe.
- 59:27Speaker 2: All I know is I just saw light coming in.
- 59:29Speaker 2: Couldn't see shadows.
- 59:30Speaker 1: When did that start happening?
- 59:31Speaker 2: That was sometime in the fourth round.
- 59:34Speaker 1: So you got hit with something.
- 59:35Speaker 2: I hit something, maybe like a jab.
- 59:37Speaker 1: Boom.
- 59:37Speaker 2: And I just remember like my eye wasn't closed all
- 59:41Speaker 2: the way yet, but like all I could.
- 59:43Speaker 1: See was just white light. And I was like, oh shit,
- 59:46Speaker 1: I think I went blind, but whatever. Let's go.
- 59:49Speaker 2: Like, you know, like internally, like it was such this
- 59:52Speaker 2: like light thing. positive voice going on the whole.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Time in that fight how do you think you developed.
- 59:57Speaker 2: That i don't know man it could be like a
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: series of just like life experiences and my like i
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: don't know books that i read or just like things
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: that i try to practice or some enlightenment thing that
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: i'm trying to get or you know what i mean
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: like i think i think that it comes from that
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: because i'm i'm just i'm kind of always searching for
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: the light and in short you know so.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: God it's gotta be so hard though in that situation
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: because generally speaking there's a moment in fights where you
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: see guys starting to get hit and tuned up and
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: you see hesitation and you see panic And you didn't
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: show any of that. You were getting beat up, but
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: you were firing back. You were fighting at the best
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: that you could. It was very obvious that you were
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: doing that. Yeah, to the very end.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Well, you know what? So right before we went out
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: or right before we got to the arena, my coach
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Lorenzo is like, all right, your nose is already cut.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: So it's going to open up. And he's like looking
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: at me in my face. He's like face to face
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: with me. He's like, your nose is already cut.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Accept it.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: It's going to open up. First time you get hit,
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: it's going to open up.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: All right. That's out of the way.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: He's like, now expect that you're going to get the
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: shit beat out of you. You're going to go to
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: bloody fucking war. He's like, you might break a hand.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: You might break a leg. You might get your jaw broken,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: but you don't give up. You keep going. We fucking
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: come out of this fight victorious. And he's like, you
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: hear me?
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: And he's like, so just fucking soak it in now.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: You're about to go to fucking full on war. It's going,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: you're like, you know, you're about to go to hell.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Like he's just like in my face, you know, and
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: he's like, we're face to face. And he's like, I
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: need you to accept it now, son. Cause he kind
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: of looks at me like, like his son, he treats
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: me that way. And I appreciate it. He's like, you're,
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: he's like, but we're fucking, we're fucking winning this fight, son.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: And you're going to fucking go to, you're going to
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: fucking war.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: And I was just swallowed that.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Walked into the arena just kind of accepting it already
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: you know what i mean like i wasn't like oh
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: i was just like okay like lorenzo said.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: It all right this.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Is what it is this is what it is and
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: so like in the locker room you know my warm-ups
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: and everything i think subconsciously i'm just like already programming
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: myself for the worst of the worst all the way
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: there all but not in a way to where i'm
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: like oh i'm gonna lose this fight right like i'm
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: like expanding you know wow just like internally like okay
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: fuck i'm ready for this all right boom all right
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: my fucking hands are gonna get broken my face is
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: gonna get split up all right and every fight's not
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: like this like not every opponent we have the same
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: you know what i mean this same thing because the
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: strategy is always different for everybody but some they he
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: just had a feeling that this is the type of
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: fight was going to be so When it got down
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: to that point, I think I had already accepted it.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: So the only thing I could do was just enjoy it,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: you know, because I was like.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: That's such a crazy thing to say. I knew it
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: was going to happen. Like, I just knew it.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: So, yeah, if I remember, you're like third round, fourth round,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: something in there. I'm just like, thank you.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Like, this is cool. Wow. Fighting for the world, you know,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: title crowd. I'm like, oh, my God. eyes closed, boom,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I think I'm blind. I'm like, fuck, oh shit. They're like, oh, oh, oh,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: he's not going back, you know?
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: And they're like, even to the last, I'm like swinging,
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: I can't see, boom, body shot hurts. I'm like, oh,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: backing up a bit. But like, I just remember like
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: the whole time, this just, this very like.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Positive feeling, man.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: It was like, and that's why like those shorts are
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: framed in, you know, like I got the shorts framed,
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: never washed them, you know, blood still on them, gloves
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: never wiped them off. And I just put it in
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: a shadow box. It's on my wall, you know, like
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: that for me is just, it was a, just a
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: pivotal moment for me, just in my life as a person,
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: as a human, you know, just, yeah, that's like the beginning.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: I think I was like, that's the beginning of the,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: of the journey now. So that's wild.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: The world title fight is the beginning of the journey. Yeah.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: I thought, yeah, I thought, you know, like, oh, no,
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: this is it. Like, that was the beginning. Because when
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: I was there, I felt like I belonged. Like, it
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: wasn't foreign to me. Like, you know, final, you know,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: main event, lights go dark. It's just the spotlights. You know,
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: I've only ever watched it. So, yeah, I was like, okay,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: this feels good.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Did it feel different?
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: It felt like it was supposed to feel, if that
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: makes sense. Like everything, I felt like that vision that
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: I've had and it was like being there and I
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: was just like, yeah, it feels about right.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Wow. Cool.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Fucking Pereira right in front of me. Hell yeah, this
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: feels right. This feels like, yeah, this is it right here.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: And then obviously like, you know, the loss was, it
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: took a little bit of an emotional toll on me
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: because my focus was to win and that was my
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: you know that was my intention um but i think
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: like in hindsight i look at it and it's like
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: no my i was meant to be there to experience
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: it and to learn from it because the things that
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: i did learn and experience from that fight have made
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: me a better person for.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Sure that's awesome yeah that's awesome Well, it really showed
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: it in the Jamal Hill fight. Because you came into
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: that fight, it just looked like you had gone through
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: something and come out on the other end. That's what
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: it looked like. Because, again, Jamal's world champion. He's a dangerous,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: dangerous man. And you looked supremely confident in that fight. Yeah.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: A lot of training, man. I understand that there's a lot.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I'm a striker. I love to strike.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Don't stray away from a striking match. But I think that.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Like, lately, I've been training a lot with Buchecha, who
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: just got signed to UFC.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Incredible guy. Amazing....
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Like, multiple-time jiu-jitsu champion. Rolling with guys like Luke, Rockhold.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: I mean, being able to be, like, on a team
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: with those guys and us train together has really helped
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: me as well.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Because....
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Has just given me more confidence in my abilities and
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: my development as like a championship level fighter. Um, so yeah,
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: I mean like even to, I, you know, I brought
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: you those shorts today, the Santo studio ones, man, we're,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: we're building an incredible team down there. I think it's
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: like the first time, are you familiar with what we're
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: doing at all?
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: So like over at Santo studio, Newport beach, um, We've
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: got Santos Studio. We've got Jackson. Jackson's like men's jewelry. Yeah,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: men's jewelry. But there's also like Jackson Media House. And
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: over there, we're trying to include all MMA fighters, extreme
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: sports athletes, like give them like a platform to showcase,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: you know, their talents and build themselves. But Santos Studio,
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: the clothing brand, we have the sickest team. So we've
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: got like buchecha we've got arman we've got i mean
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: dilla shaw's behind it we got rockhold um man the
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: list goes on gabriel silva anderson silva's son on just
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: like the fighting side but then it's like paul rodriguez
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: skateboarder nija houston ryan sheckler and then we got motocross
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: riders like jet and hunter lawrence and like so there's
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: all these kind of like extreme sports athletes under one
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: umbrella but like in one place in newport beach and
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: we all support each other under like the same type
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: of brand.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: And what is your role in this? Ambassador.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Fucking. I, I was a part of the vision before
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: there was like the first t-shirt ever printed.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Like bear.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: And I had a conversation. He's like, Hey, I got
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: this vision. And I'm like, dude, I'm behind you. Like,
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: I love how this sounds. It's right up my alley.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Sounds creative. There's clothes involved. There's training involved. So he's
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: gone to just build this. We got the Santo performance studio,
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: huge gym, jiu-jitsu mats um weight lifting but also like
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: shopping it dude it's it's it's unheard of but it's
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: so cool and like it's put us all in the
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: same place to be able to like train with each
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: other collaborate with each other like if it wasn't for
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: santo i would have never been able to train with
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: guys like buchecha and bernardo and leo vera you know
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: the check mat guy. So like now there's a partnership
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: with check mat, which makes me like have access to
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: training with these guys. It's, I would have never been
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: able to, you know what I mean? Have that same
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: like connection. So we're just doing everything we can to just,
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: you know, like support each other within this like MMA community,
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: help each other grow, um, and just, like, expand and
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: also include the community within right now Newport Beach. But,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure that the vision is bigger than
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: just that.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: So this is something also that you can do once
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: you retire? I would love to, yeah.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: I mean, right now, like, I think the understanding from
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: Bear is that, like, I'm just focused on becoming a champion.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: But I'm sure he knows that, like, I'm heavily interested
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: in in you know doing something because I believe in
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: the brand so yeah after this maybe there's something but
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: right now you know I have no distractions right you
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: know what I mean like I have no distractions I'm
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: you know I'm just making sure that um I'm fighting
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: and that like my money's in the right place and
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: places do you.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Have a time set in your head where you want
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: to exit the game um How about this?
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: I can say that I would like for my current
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: contract to be my last contract.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: How many fights do you have in your current contract? Left?
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Six or seven. And that's it? That's what you'd like?
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: In an ideal world.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: Or, like, maybe sometime there's, like, a renegotiation and it's
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: not for as many fights, but, like, I think six
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: or seven more fights would be nice and be able
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: to look around and say, okay, is this enough? Is
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: this okay for me to step away from?
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Am I secure?
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Is my family secure? Okay, then.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Because time waits for no man.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I don't want to be 41, 42.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: How old are you right now? I turned 35 in February.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: So you're still in your prime.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Still in my prime.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: So they say, um, especially for a larger athlete. Yeah.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: And I, I don't have 38. Yeah.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: I don't have the wear and tear of a lot
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: of the fighters. Like I didn't grow up wrestling and
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: all that stuff. So 15 years into any type of,
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: it's a big factor.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Sports or athletics. Um, football's a big factor. Wrestling's
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: a big factor. Knees, back, neck. Yeah.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Um, But, yeah, I mean, like, by the way
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: that things are looking, it'd be nice. Like, October 4th,
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: win over Yuri sets me up for the title fight against...
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Here's an ideal situation. Win over Yuri in October. Alex
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: beats Uncle Iev. Rematch for the belt against Alex sometime
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: in the beginning, like, the first half of next year.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Beat Alex in the rematch. get the belt, I'm the
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: champion all summer, then somewhere in between summer and fall,
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: there's a child that comes into play. My wife's not
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: pregnant yet, but it'd be nice.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Oh, you got this idea.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: It'd be nice.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: You know what I mean? You got a vision board, man.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Everyone says, like, All these guys, success, you got to
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: have a vision, man. Like, you got to have a
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: vision in life.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: You do. You know?
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Like, if you don't have a vision or something to
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: aim at, like, what are you doing?
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: So, like, yeah, these are, like, you know, these are
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: my vision, but there's, like, goals in between, you know?
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Goal. Be eerie. Goal. Get another shot at the title. Vision.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Start my family. Finish my fight contract. be done with
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: fighting live in asia in asia yeah yeah yeah i'm
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: moving back to thailand man really yeah hundred percent.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: One thousand percent why because that's where i want to
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: be that's where i belong really yeah.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: I belong i belong in there's right now what like
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: my heart is telling me i belong in three places
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: either thailand hong kong or south.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Korea why those places Obviously, Thailand, you know, you had
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: amazing experiences there. Hong Kong's amazing. I love it there.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: It's good.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: I just came back from Hong Kong as well. So
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: in that Thailand trip, I went to Hong Kong. I
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: love how it's set up. I love the structure of
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: the city. I love that there's so much outdoor stuff involved.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: So like when I imagine the rest of my life
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: and how I want to live that after fighting, it's like,
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: let's say I do have my family and there's a
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: child and play okay cool if i live in hong
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: kong i can just walk outside and take my child
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: for a hike right outside the house and it not
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: be like i don't have to even own a car
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: i can just everything's walking you know i mean it's
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: like the way that this city's set up it's set
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: up for people to to walk to interact you know
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: it's very beautiful it's not.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: You know I love it.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: It's just, for me, when I'm there, I'm like, ah,
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: this makes sense. Like, especially with the vision of, like,
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: who I want to be after fighting.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: And why South Korea? I like the culture in South Korea, man.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: I really do. Like, when I see that, like, when
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: I see just, like, the culture in South Korea, the people,
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: how I envision just, like, my family interacting with society
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: and stuff, like, to me, another thing that just makes sense.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: And Thailand for me is, it just, it feels like home.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: The language is very like easy for me to, you know,
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: to speak and to like learn more of and to
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: where I could be fluent. I love the community there.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: I love how people live their life there.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: A lot of growth happening in Thailand.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: It's also a lot less expensive. A lot less expensive
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: And to be able to like, so like, let's say
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: in Thailand, I'm, I'm American, right? We're all kind of
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: born like to live the American dream. I can live
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: the American dream anywhere I want. But for me, if
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: I could live the American dream in Thailand, that would
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: be ideal. If I can live the American dream in
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Hong Kong, that'd be ideal, you know? But, It's a
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: lot more expensive in Hong Kong. It's a lot more
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: expensive in South Korea.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Do you think you say this because you live in Vegas?
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Because Vegas is kind of a crazy place in America.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Not so much. I've been to many different places.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: I've been almost everywhere in the States when I was
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: on tour. Austin's nice. Do I want to live in Austin?
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: No.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: California?
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Absolutely not. New York? Absolutely not. Florida? Don't like it.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Shout out to my Florida fans. I love you guys.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: I'm not saying anything against don't hate me if I
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: don't give you a place, if you, you know, whatever. Um,
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: but there's nowhere, there's nowhere else in the world that
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I feel the way that I feel when I'm there.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: That's interesting. Has that always been the case or is
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: it just like, does it represent something to you in
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: terms of like personal growth or a vibe, the, the
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: relaxing vibe of it?
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: Because it's not so much like, it's not so much
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: like when I'm there, I'm relaxing.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Like it's very busy. Like there's a lot going on, but,
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: I just, I can, I realize how I feel inside,
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: you know, and how I'm interacting with people who I
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: don't even know on a daily basis. And when I
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: think about like, I always, I'm constantly thinking about like,
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: like my future or my.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Vision, you know?
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: And when I think about, and when I think about
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: my vision, my future and my vision, there's a child involved.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: And I try to think about like, okay, as a dad,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: how do I want to operate with a child? Or like,
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: how do, how do I want, you know, our child
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: to experience life? And there's just, you know, a lot
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: of different questions and visions that come and the way
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: that I've seen it, or like the way that I
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: envision it, it's.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Kind of like, it makes more sense that way.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: You know, like if I could, if I could, let's
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: say take away some of the like stress of raising
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: a child from my wife by like, let's say hiring
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: help or, you know, having, instead of having a car,
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: having a driver to have us get through traffic so
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: that we can still enjoy life and You know, go
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: on like a family, you know, dinner or take the
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: kid here or whatever. But I don't want to drive
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: the damn car because there's too much traffic.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Right. So you can relax.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: So I can relax. But we can still have family time.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: We can still do the things that families and kids do.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: But it not cost me so much.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Right. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Like if I wanted to get a live-in helper here
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: in the States to help my wife, it costs a fortune.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Yeah. It's almost impossible.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: But if I wanted to get a live-in helper, let's
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: say in Hong Kong, it costs me a thousand or
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: less dollars a month to have a full-time live-in helper.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: You know, and there's nothing wrong with it there. That's
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: just the culture. Like in Hong Kong, you have just
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: groups of women who are live in helpers that like
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: on their off day in the summer or on their
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: off day, like on Sunday, you'll see them. Everybody's just
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: in the streets with tents, combing each other's hair, boom
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: boxes out, sharing food. It's just a part of it.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Like that's not like literally tents in the streets everywhere. Jamie,
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: if you want to pull that up, you, It's crazy, dude.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I don't know if you've ever seen it, but it's
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: so cool because like they enjoy the life, but like
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: Hong Kong helpers hang out or enjoying a day.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Off or something.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: It's, it's just a way of life.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: It's a lifestyle.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: It's, it's just a new perspective that I've never seen,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: like that I didn't see here.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: And I like it.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: I just think like for me and my development and
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: growth as just like a human being, that's just kind
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: of where I, It's like a never ending, like finding
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: out what's next.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: Like I'm, I've constantly got to adapt and evolve. Like
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: I'm American. I have to learn a new language. I've
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: got to adapt to a new culture. I've got to
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: learn new rules and laws and all this stuff. And like, cool,
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: sign me up. Like, cause that's just, I don't want
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: my life to be like, okay, I know it all.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: And I'm done and I'm just, okay, cool. And I
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: got the kid and I'm just, you know, like I
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: want to continue to like grow, to grow as well as,
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: you know, showing someone else.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: How to grow. Um, yeah, see like they're not homeless.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: They're just hanging out on their off day because they
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: can't and they like, they enjoy it. No one's mad
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: to be doing this.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Huh? You know what I mean?
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Like it's a totally safe environment for these people to
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: be out here. They're not interrupting anybody. They're literally just,
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: this is a day off. Like, oh, what are you
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: doing on your day off? I'm going to go hang
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: out with the other helpers around the city. And we're
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: just like, we're just chilling.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Because to live there, like the places are really small.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: You know, like if you have a thousand square foot apartment,
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: you're most likely a multimillionaire. So most of the life,
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: like lifestyle is spent outdoors.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: So for them to go outside like this and this
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: is like a normal thing on a Sunday. Normal. Yeah.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: On a Sunday or on a weekend. Yeah, absolutely. And
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: like Hong Kong, the city is supposed to be very
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: safe too, right? Very safe, man. Very, very safe. Um,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: very safe, very clean.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Like when I think about the stuff that I had
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: to go through as a kid and just like the
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: dangers and you know, I'm like, Hmm, how about like,
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: My kid doesn't necessarily have to be worried about certain
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: things or, you know what I mean, be worried about, like,
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: getting shot at school or, like, just different things. It's
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: just kind of like, what can I take off? Like,
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: what mental load can I take off my offspring in
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: the beginning? I can take on whatever. I'm a grown adult. Like, whatever.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: What do you think you're going to be doing with
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: your time other than that when you're done fighting?
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: I have zero business experience because I've just been so
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: dedicated to fighting, but I do want to like start
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: to learn, man. Like I want to learn business, how
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: to operate a business. I, cause I'm creative and I
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: have ideas, but I don't have structure. I don't have,
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: you know, really like the right mentorship. Um, so like, Yeah,
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: like I'd like to have multiple businesses.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Like what kind of businesses? What do you want to
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: get into? Something like... Obviously something where you can express
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: your creativity.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: Express creativity, but also like something that helps me and
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: people like health, you know, health products.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Is this one of those things that you can't really
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: think about? Right now.
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: I can't because it's just like, I'm, you know what
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: I mean? Like I'm locked in. I don't want to
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: get too distracted, but like.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: I think that's a giant, one of the signs that someone, when,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: when people spread themselves too thin, like, um, there's a
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: bunch of fighters when things start going really well, they
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: start getting movie offers and then you see them on
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: talk shows. You see a lot of this, a lot
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: of that. You're like, Oh, you're getting outside of your
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: lane and you're spreading yourself thin. Um, And there's just
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: no way to really be locked into training while also
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: doing that stuff. So when you see someone preparing for
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: a major fight and you see a lot of extracurricular activities,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: I'm always like, ooh. Like Daniel Dubois had a fucking
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: party the day of his fight. Before the fight? Yeah. Oh, boy.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: It's a big issue now. People are talking about it.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: There's like 90 people at his place partying the day
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: of the fight. That's absurd. Right?
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: That takes a lot of energy.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Just being around those people. Yeah.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: When it's done, you're like. Even if you're just sitting
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: in the party. Like your energy is being zapped.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Right. Yeah.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: And obviously if it's your fight night, everyone wants to
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: talk to you. Everybody has questions.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I just can't imagine why anybody would do that.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: Or why.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: There's videos of him hanging out partying with everybody. I mean,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: not drinking. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Crazy, but. Obviously, like, hanging
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: out with a lot of loud people talking, a lot
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: of music, a lot of, you know, a lot of communication.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: That zaps the nervous system for sure.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: Like, how do you expect to go fight Usyk after
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: your nervous system has been zapped from a party?
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: I can't understand it. When I saw it after the
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: fight was over, I was like, like, he's probably going
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: to lose anyway. Yeah. But what is that?
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: No, it's tough, man. I honestly, you know. I agree
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: with that. I think this fight in Baku really got like,
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: it made me realize how important like being locked in is.
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: Cause I was, I think that's why I got sick.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: To be honest, Joe, I think that's why I got
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: sick because I was just exhausted. No, exhausted from the
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: things that I had to do from my obligations. Oh,
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: so the week that I, so the week that I landed,
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: I had to do, uh, I had to do like
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: four or five days of filming with draft Kings for this,
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: like online. So it's like, I just landed, but then like,
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: I didn't get time to adjust because the next day
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: we got to wake up, you know, first, first filming
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: sessions at nine, 9am.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: Oh, and then so we're like week.
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: No, the, the week before fight, the week before fight,
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: you know? Yeah, exactly. So like I land and they came,
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: they went to my house 2am. I'm not bitching about
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: this cause the guys were great, but this is just like,
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: my experience.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: How much time did you have to spend doing that? Oh,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: I mean, we, we spent, you know, we spent a
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: week of, of filming. How much time each day? Five,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: six hours. What? Yeah. What? That's crazy.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: It wasn't every day that we, I don't remember, but yeah,
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: it was like, we, we did a lot of filming
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: that week for this, you know, for this content piece
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: or whatever.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: That's exhausting.
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: And then as soon as they left, then it was
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: fight week. And then I had all the media stuff
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: for fight week.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Oh my God. You know what I mean?
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: And I think by time, like with jet lag, with
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: training involved, with the filming, with all of that, I
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: think by time fight week came, like my body's like,
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: fuck you. That's exactly how it felt.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: What were you doing that they needed you for five,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: six hours in a day?
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: Uh, like, you know, I, Here's the thing. I'm grateful
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: because I wouldn't have been able to experience Baku the
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: way that I did had I not done this.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: So it's like. Right. You made some extra money. Yeah.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: So we go to the old town and then like
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: get a tour through old town for three hours. And
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: the lady's like, this is this. So I got information
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: and they're filming me, you know, get information. And then
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: from the old town, then we go somewhere else.
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: And, you know. So where ideally you would be resting.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Or doing my own.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Or training.
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Or. Resting or adjusting. Yeah, but when you're forced to interact, like, that's...
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I mean, you're dealing with something where you have this
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: monumental moment that's coming up in 14 days. And then
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: you just.
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but I just, like, that's what I'm saying. Like,
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: my main thing was, like, embrace it. You know what
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: I mean? Like, just embrace it. Take it all in. Yeah,
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: it's fucking hard. But that mentality can only get you.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: So far, right?
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: That's why, like, I really.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: I feel like I'm going to get fucking eaten alive
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: for this.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: Not if you don't read it.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: I really feel like Alex having so many fights last
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: year and obligations and travel and all that, I feel
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: like that probably played a big factor in why his
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: performance was the way it was against Uncle Ive.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: Well, supposedly he went into that fight with norovirus and
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: he had a fucked up hand.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: I honestly, like, I believe it.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: It seemed like he wasn't hitting the gas as much.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: You know, it seemed like he... was a little bit more. Also,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Uncle Ive is fucking good, man. He's good. That guy's
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: really good. I mean, he's, he's, you're smiling. I can't smile?
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: You can, but you smile like, come on, man.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: I'm just smiling.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: What is your opinion on Uncle Ive? I don't have one.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: You don't have any opinion at all? No, not one. No.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Because he's the champ. Okay. I get it.
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: Let's go back to Alex Norovirus. Are you just not
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: a fan of his? I can say confidently, am I
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: a fan? Absolutely not.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: As a human or a fighter? Both. Okay. So have
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: you had bad interactions with him as a human?
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: He just talks shit. And I hate people that talk shit. Like, dude,
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: I just don't like it. I don't like people who
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: talk shit for no reason. If I didn't say anything
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: to you, if I've never fucking mentioned your name, then
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: why are you talking shit to me or about me
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: or disrespecting me?
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Well, people talk shit because you get some attention. And
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: I think a guy like Akali, there was a long
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: period in his career where he didn't talk shit and
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: he wasn't getting a lot of attention.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: I mean, look, he had that fight with Jan Bohovic
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: where it was for the title. It went to a draw.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: No one gets the title. It was a crazy experience, right?
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: And a very good fight. Yeah. And people were mad
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: at him. And he had to sit on the shelf
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: for a while. It was kind of fucked up.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: So that makes him talk shit about me?
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: I think he talks shit about everybody because you realize, look,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: this is what happened to Colby Covington. This is like,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: there's a thing that happens. Like if you talk shit,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: you will get more eyes, more attention, more money, and
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: you'll get fights. And if you do not talk shit,
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: there's a possibility that you'll be cut. I know it's
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: not you. It's not you. Yeah. And here I am.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: I appreciate getting good fights and good money. And it's like,
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: as is Pereira, right? Pereira just fights. I mean, he
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: doesn't even speak English, and he's beloved over here.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Yeah. But you can get by with just your performance.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: But some people, they think like, man, I got to
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: get people to fucking pay attention. There's so many killers
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: out there. There's so many people that are popular. I
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: got to do something. Yeah.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: So fight better.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: I hear you. I hear you.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: That's the only thing.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: It's just a shit talk.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: I hate it, dude. I fucking hate it. It really
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: bugs me.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: Do you hate it because you're a martial artist and
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: you feel like it doesn't have a place in martial arts?
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: I just hate it because it's fucking unnecessary. And even
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: as an adult, I had to deal with this shit
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: my whole life. Right. And it's a fucking toxic way
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: of fucking being. And it's passing along through social media.
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: And kids are fucking getting beat up for it. And
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: we're fucking grown men. on a large platform where people
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: are looking up to us for many different things. And
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: they envision us as these fucking gladiators. And this is
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: what you're choosing to do as a foot. We have
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: a responsibility. I feel like as athletes, as champion number
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: fucking one, as champion, you have a responsibility. You have
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: a belt around your waist and all these eyes and microphone.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: And that's what you're going to choose to say is
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: talk shit and degrade my name. And I'm not even
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: above you. I'm not even challenging you for a fight.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: And you want to mention me. And, like, that to
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: me is just like, dude, spend your time wisely. So that,
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: in a way, it's motivation for me. Because I'm like,
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: I just won't do that. Like, I think that there's
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: so many different things that can be done when you
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: have that belt. Like, that belt is an honor. Like,
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: to have that. There's a responsibility that comes with that.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: There's things that you can do with that. Like, it's
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: not just about you. Realize the responsibility that you have
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: when you carry that title. And so there's just, I'm
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: getting passionate about it because there's just, I want to
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: say so many things, but I'm not going to.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: I know what you're saying. I feel you. I feel you.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: I feel like there's a couple guys who kind of
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: changed the game. One of them was Chael Sutton and
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: another one is Conor McGregor. Yeah. And part of the
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: way they changed the game was talking mad shit and
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: getting a lot of people to pay attention to them. Yeah.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: Which, cool, you know? Like, It got them a lot
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: of attention. It got them a lot of money. But, like,
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: and if that's what makes them happy, cool.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: You know? I think some people think it's a good
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: business decision. Like I said, I know nothing about business.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Maybe that's why I don't own a business.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: You know? Like, I just, I don't know. Well, it's
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: good that you don't own a business. Yeah. You don't
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: want to own a business while you're in the middle
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: of this journey that you're on. It's just like you wouldn't.
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: It would just drain you. It would take time from you.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: You can only do so many things in this life,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: and especially when you're doing something that's all-encompassing physically. It's
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: not like you have a business and you have a
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: side business project that's a passion project that you're working on. No, no, no.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: You're fighting. Fighting, you have to be all in and fighting.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: You really do. And you are all in. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: and while you're all in. Look, I admire people that
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: don't talk shit, but I also like a little shit-talker.
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: I do. Yeah. Because it's, it's fun. It's, and it
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: gets people excited and it does get a lot of
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: eyes on the sport and it makes for more pay-per-view buys. Yeah.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: Which is why I think the, you know, like the
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: UFC encourages it. Whether they encourage it or not, they
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: use those things. You know, like when Conor fought Khabib, they,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: they threw in the video of Conor throwing the fucking,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: the dolly at the bus. Yeah. Remember that? Yeah. Which
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: is crazy. Like, it's kind of almost encouraging that kind
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: of behavior, which is crazy.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: No, it's, I mean, like UFC, as real as it gets, right?
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: So you kind of get everything. You get everything.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: They don't say that anymore, though, do they?
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: As real as it gets?
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Sometimes, like, I don't know. It's stuck in my brain. But, yeah,
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: there are different things. There are a lot of different,
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: I guess, characters, personalities, you know.
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: Connor throwing the thing. through, you know, the dolly through
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: the window, is it going to make people watch the fight?
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Did he do it for
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: that reason? Don't think so. I just think he is
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: who he is, right? It's like we never know what's
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: next with Connor. And respect, you know, respect to him
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: for everything. But I just, yeah, I understand your perspective
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: as well. Like, a little shit talk. you know, yeah,
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: it's entertaining. You know, you see two guys like, Oh yeah.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: But I completely appreciate your perspective as well. And I
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: certainly appreciate your perspective having grown up through all that stuff.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Like why include it? Especially when what you're doing is
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: the ultimate test of who you are as a human.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Like what was the ultimate test of who you are
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: as a man? The actual fight itself, which is going
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: to happen no matter how much shit you talk. Yeah.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: And whoever, like whoever talks shit to me, you know, from,
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: Not even from now on, but, like, whoever talks shit
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: to me, like, I back it up. You know what
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: I mean? Like, I don't need to say anything in return. Like,
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: I'm just going to back it up.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: I don't want to give anybody any more attention or,
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: you know, say people's names and.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Stuff, but, like... Well, Conor and Khabib is the ultimate
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: example of that, right? Yeah. When Khabib was on top
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: of him, it's like, let's talk now. And he kept
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: punching him in the face. Let's talk now.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: I mean, I love Khabib for that.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Like, I.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: You know, a lot of people did. I... I can
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: relate to that. I can relate to that feeling of
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: how good that felt.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: He's a fascinating guy. He had this really amazing conversation.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Someone was interviewing him, and they were talking about different
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: addictions that fighters fall to and different things that sidetrack people.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: And he's like, the best addiction is discipline. And he
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: was talking about his discipline. The best addiction is discipline.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: You've got to become addicted to discipline, addicted to hard training, addicted.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: Completely addicted to that. That makes me feel like a scrub.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: I mean, like, I'm getting... Oh, that's how fucking good
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: he was, man. That's how good he was. I'm disciplined, but, like, damn.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: Addicted to it? Yeah. I mean, when he talks... See
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: if you can find that, Jamie. You got it? Here, here.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: Listen to this.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: Every man addicted to something. Some smoke, some drink, some
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: chase girls, some wisdom. But real man, he addicted to discipline.
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: To early wakes, to prayer, to training, to silence. Discipline
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: no need motivation. Discipline move without feeling. Discipline say, I
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: go anyway. Even when tired, even when lonely. Discipline is
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: best addiction. You want strong life? Discipline build it. You
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: want peace? Discipline protect it. You want respect?
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: Discipline earn it. No shortcut, only work.
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: Be man with control. Not men with excuse.
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: No cry. No blame.
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: You want better life? Start with better habits.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Discipline. Every day.
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: Until discipline become you.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: I'm going to use that as my morning wake up now.
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: Do you know that? That's what I was just thinking
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: in my mind. I'm like, dude, where do I include
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: this in my daily routine? Like right when you wake up,
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: that should be your alarm. Or is it like, you know,
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: do I just sit and like, listen to this before
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: I fall asleep?
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. That'll fuck with you. You
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: won't be able to sleep. Why sleep?
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: Why sleep?
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: Run, run. Dreams of Khabib just standing over me. Yeah. No,
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: you're not real man. It's interesting because Chael Sonnen had
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: a video recently. That's so incredible, man. Shout out to
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: Khabib for that. Shout out to Khabib. I mean, that's
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: why he is who he is. Chael Sonnen had a
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: really interesting video the other day. He was talking about
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: how people say that Dagestan is a place where you
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: should take your kids. You know, you want to take
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: them to Dagestan two, three years and forget it. There's
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: like a fun line that like Cormier has said, he's
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: taking his son to Dagestan, you know, and That's one
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: of the things that Bilal Muhammad said. If I could
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: do my career over again, I would have went to
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: Dagestan earlier. Yeah. And I would have stayed there for years.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: And then Chael Sonnen had a very interesting point, which
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: I think he's totally accurate. And he's like, they're not
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: doing anything any different. He goes, but they don't have football.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: They don't have basketball. They don't have baseball. So the
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: best athletes go in MMA. Okay. The best athletes go
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: into wrestling. The best athletes go into combat sports in Dagestan.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: And so he's like, what you get is you have genetics,
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: which is an ultimate requirement of the elite of the elite.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: At the top of the game, it's like discipline and genetics.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: Those are the two things that separate the men from
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: the boys. And he's like, we have all those things
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: in America. It's just when you're dealing with The elite
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: of the elite. It's like, what pool are you drawing from?
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: One thing that I think they do have there, though,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: is this. The fact that they're all very religious and
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: the fact that there's no drinking, there's no partying, there's
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: no nothing. There's no chasing girls. There's no bullshit. It's
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: just prayer and training. That's a major advantage. But you
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: could do that anywhere. Yeah. You could do, anyone could
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: live that way. Yeah.
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: Anyone can live that way. I'd imagine that like being
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: in Dagestan because of, you know, just like the cultural differences,
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: not to say that it would be easier, but you're
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: dealing with less, right? Like you can do it here,
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: but like you're, you go outside, you're going to find
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: a bar, you're going to find something, you.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Know what I mean? Like, you know, like the, the,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: you know. But you have to make conscious decisions not
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: to have that in your life. Yeah.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: Which like doing it here would probably actually make you stronger.
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: Right. Because you have to deal with more resistance. Because
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: you have to deal with more resistance. Yeah. You know
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: what I mean? Yeah.
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: Like if you go out away where there's nothing like, yeah, cool.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: But then come back to the real world and try
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: to do it.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: And it's going to be like, ugh. Right. But isn't
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: that why most, I mean, from the beginning of time,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: fighters would take their camps away from life. Yeah. Like
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: Marvin Hagler, he would go to the Cape. He would
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: go to Cape Cod and train in the winter. Cassius
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Clay and Muhammad Ali, you know, they would go up
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: into the mountains, you know, Tyson with the Catskills.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: There's something different about it, right? Like there's something different.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Sure, Big Bear. Everybody goes to Big Bear and trains
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: up there. Yeah.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: When I fought Alex, I was in Salt Lake, or
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: I was in, what's the.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Mountain up there? In Utah? Yeah. Wasatch? No. Above Salt Lake,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: everybody goes skiing up there. Damn it. What's it called, dude?
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: Why am I? Mount Nebo? No. Park City? Park City. Oh, okay, okay.
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: I was out in Park City for like two or
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: three weeks before the flight. There's a lot of distractions
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: in Park City, son.
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: But not where we were.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: No?
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: No.
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: Like the cabin that I rented out there.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Oh, nice. There was nothing there.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: How much time did you spend up there? Like 17 days,
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: 18 days, something like that. So like the tail end
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: of the camp, we were just like up there.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Did you have to acclimate to the altitude? How much
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: time does that usually take? Because that doesn't seem like enough.
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: 17 days doesn't seem like enough.
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: We, I don't remember exactly how much time, but we,
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: for two weeks before that, were regularly going up to
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: Mount Charleston and to running other mountains and stuff like
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: outside of Vegas.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: Right, because there is quite a bit of elevation outside
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: of Vegas. And I think Vegas itself is, I think it's, no,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: I think it's 2,000 feet above sea level.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: Something like that.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: What's Vegas above sea level? 2,100. Yeah, so Vegas is 2,000
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: feet above sea level. There's a road right up by
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: where we train.
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: It's called Mount Potosi, and that's like 7,000, no, 6,000,
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: something like that. And it's a very short distance drive.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: And you go train up there.
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: We'd just drive there, and then we'd just run out there.
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: train out there, come back down home.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: One of the things that I've heard, it's, there's different
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: philosophies on how to handle training and altitude. But one
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: of the things that I've heard is what you should
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: do is you should train at sea level and then
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: sleep and live at a high altitude. So that way
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: you get more output at sea level because you're getting
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: more oxygen. So you could put in more work. And
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: then when you're at the higher altitude, your body is
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: adapting and developing more red blood cells and, and all
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: that stuff. And you, more adaptation for oxygen. Makes sense.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I've heard that as well. Yeah. I just haven't tried it.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: That makes sense to me. Yeah. Because it's just the,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: but then it's like there's a mental benefit of being
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: able to put in the work at a higher altitude. Yeah.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: You know, and then knowing that, like, say if you train, like,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: I lived for a while outside of Boulder. I lived
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: at this place that was 8,500 feet above sea level. Oh,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: my God. It was, it was, working out there was rough. Yeah.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: It was crazy that when I would go to Boulder
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: to train... I would go to Amal Easton's jiu-jitsu gym.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: It felt easier because it was only 5,000 feet because
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: that's like Boulder is like 5,000 something. And then one
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: time we had to go to Philadelphia for like a
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: UFC event and I was working out in Philadelphia and
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: And I felt like a fucking juggernaut. I was like,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: I have so much energy. This is crazy. It's because
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: I was at sea level. Yeah. And I'm not used
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: to being at sea level. So when I was working out,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: I felt so good. I was like, oh my God,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: I have so much fucking energy. It's because I'm used
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: to being oxygen deprived.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: Have you seen that thing they have at the PI,
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: that ozone machine?
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: No. What is it? The one that takes your blood
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: and recycles it? No, it's like a....
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: Altitude simulator. So I want to do it, but they're like,
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: you got to commit to like a couple months of
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: training to see like the, the real benefit of this.
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: Oh, so you have to be there for a few months.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: You have to like, do you utilize that place? Cause
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: you are a Vegas guy.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: I love like they have, you know, amazing physical therapists, um, nutrition.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Nutrition.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: It's very convenient, you know, especially like living there. Um,
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: I just try to stay I don't try to get
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: too involved because every fighter can go, and it's just
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: like you kind of run into other camps and blah.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: Blah, blah. Oh, there's a lot of shit talking there. Yeah,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: a lot of shit talking. Energy. Energy. John Wood has
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: such a great gym, too. Syndicate is so good. John's
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: such a great guy. Yeah, man. Great vibe.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: So happy for everything right now with just like Marab
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: and him and I and what we're building.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: I love the fact that Marab, he's still tight with
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: his old crew. You know what I mean? It's like
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: in the same thing, even when AJ was training down there,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: they're still tight with Ray Longo and Matt Serra and
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: all those guys that got him to the dance. And
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: then you see those guys also in his corner. It's
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: a very collaborative thing. Where the egos don't get in
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: the way. No.
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: That's such a cool thing to respect.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: So cool.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: Everybody around him. Training partners too.
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: It's all top down, right?
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: It's all top down.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: If the guys at the top have a great vibe
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: and they're all collaborative and work together, you feel that
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: vibe in the gym. Yeah, it spreads.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: His energy is definitely infectious and One thing that's cool
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: too is like the way that John's organized training in
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: syndicate now when people have fights coming up and like
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: you're doing your live cage rounds and the whole gym's watching.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: It's like a fight.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: Everybody's around the cage.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean? So you get used to that.
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: It's so cool. It's so cool. What is it like
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: having a Rob in training? Is there a fucking guy
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: that has a better gas tank than that motherfucker? I
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: haven't seen him.
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: Dude, my week, the fight week.
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: Actually, I had just, the day of.
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: My fight, okay, day of my fight, woke up, called John, like, hey, man,
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: want to get a shakeout? Just, like, shake out some nerves, like,
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: you know, just hit some pads. He's like, okay, cool,
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: I'm down in the ballroom with Merab. He's like, but
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: you got to wait a few minutes. Like, he's going
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: some rounds.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: I'm like, rounds? Rounds?
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, you just got to come down
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: here and see it. So I'm like, I go downstairs
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: in the elevator.
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: We can get to the room.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: Marab is doing live rounds on carpet, hard floor in
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: a fucking ballroom with some guy. And they're sparring rounds, bro.
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: The day of the fight. Of my fight.
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: So he didn't have a fight. But it was this
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: was a week after his uh his second fight against
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: o'malley so they're doing live rounds on the carpet shin
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: guards everything but like takedowns jesus christ on hard floor
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: and carpet and he just doesn't stop it's like it's
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: like training never ends.
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: That's how you get staff that's probably why you got stuff.
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Who knows you know but you like like they're just
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: No one can stop the guy. Like, he's just a
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: big ball of energy.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: He really is.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: Like, whether it's running up and down mountains and all
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: this stuff, like, John Wood actually has to have some
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: type of, like, monitor on this guy. He's like, Murat,
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: don't train today.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: Okay, coach. Okay, coach.
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: Next thing you know, he's on social media, like, out
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: in the mountains, you know, or in some river. Like,
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: it just, he's, yeah, having him around is crazy.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Yeah, DC went to visit him the day after the
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: O'Malley fight, the first fight, and he went to his
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: house and he was running. Yeah. The day after he
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: won the world title. And DC goes to his house
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: and he's like, look at my Rob's home gym. He goes,
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: you know where this motherfucker is? He's out running. He's
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: out running.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: It's the discipline.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: That fucking, that Khabib is talking about. It's discipline.
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: He's addicted to discipline.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: It never ends. That's it.
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: Like, I think he's just one of those guys.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: It being, I just, there's a lot of people that
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: are analyzing it. They're like, it has to be genetic.
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Does it? Does it? Is his head bigger? Is his
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: chest bigger? What's bigger? It's all the same. He's a
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: normal-sized guy. There's nothing extraordinary about his physicality other than
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: the fact that he's very strong, which is there's a
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: lot of strong guys. But it's an accumulation of time
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: spent on the path. And he has not deviated. Yeah,
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: at all.
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: And I don't think he's anywhere close to.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: He's not even in his prime. No. I mean, he's
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: in his prime, clearly, but I don't think he's reached
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: his full potential because I think he was even better
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: in the second O'Malley fight than he was the first fight.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: And I think O'Malley was considerably better. Yeah. But Murab's
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: that much better now. And, you know, there's this thing
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: that happens, and hopefully you'll get to experience this, when
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: you win a title, you get better. There's like, DC
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: says it's like 10%. It's like there's something that happens.
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: Some people say 30%. But there's something that happens to
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: where you realize, like, I am the fucking best in
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: the world. And you take that into your heart and
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: your mind. And then you carry that. Like now you
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: have that title. You see it. It's sitting there on
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: your table. Or you have it on your wall, wherever
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: you put your belt. And you're like, I am the
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: fucking man now. And now I will live this way.
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: And then you see them going into the fight. You
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: know who you see that with? Pantoja. Yeah. That dude
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: does not get the love that he deserves. When that
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: guy gets into the octagon, it's like a fucking leopard
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: just entered the room. It's wild, man. It's wild. He's
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: got this feeling about him that champions have when they're
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: just fucking feeling it. When that guy steps into the octagon,
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: you see him across the ring from whoever the fuck
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: he's fighting. It's like, that's a cat, man. Yeah. You
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: know what I mean? Honestly, yeah. Like a fucking jaguar
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: or something. A jaguar. A mountain. A killer. Just some
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: elite killer.
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: You can kind of sense that little instinct in him.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: Oh, shit. 100%, man. 100%. This guy's in it. He's
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: for sure in it. He's locked in. I mean, and
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: you see the... I think the perfect fight for him...
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: was seeing Kaikara France, they fought in the Ultimate Fighter,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: and it was a good fight. And then you see
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: this new fight, where as he's the champion, Kaikara France
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: is the contender. He fucking ran through him, man. Like,
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: you see, it's a different human being. He's a champion now.
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: Where does he trade? He's ATT. ATT, okay. I mean,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: I don't know if he spends his... all of his
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: time down there i don't know if he's there all
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: the time if he just goes there for camps yeah
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: make sure i don't know if he how he does
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: it okay i don't i'm not sure if he's a
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: florida resident or if he lives in brazil and just
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: goes there for camps yeah i'm not sure no.
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: But yeah whatever i mean whatever he's doing is definitely this.
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: Is the thing about being the flyweight champ or if
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: that motherfucker was the middleweight champ he'd be a superstar
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: yeah he'd be the best planet And to me, that
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: drives me nuts because, like, you just– I like martial arts.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: I like someone who represents the best of martial arts. Like,
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: and in my mind, like, that guy's as good as
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: anybody alive. Like, when he's running over every fucking contender
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: and choking them out or knocking them out or whatever
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: the fuck he's doing, like, damn.
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's tough, man.
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: It's, like, it's tough in this sport because of the
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: weight classes like a lot of guys don't get. What's
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: crazy is 35 gets so much love.
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: It's just 10 pounds difference. 10 pounds difference. Isn't that nuts? Yeah.
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: That's kind of nuts. Yeah. Because when you see Pantoja
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: next to those guys, there's not much difference in size.
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: It's kind of the same. That's why, like, I forgot.
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: Somebody not too long ago asked me, like, my, what
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: would my MMA, like, Mount Rushmore be? And I remember saying, like,
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: Anderson Silva, GSP, Demetrius Johnson.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: And Amanda Nunes. And they were like, Demetrius Johnson. I'm like... Oh,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: of course. Why would you even... Hesitate. Hesitate. Why are
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: you even asking me that question, you know? If you
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: weren't there during his prime, you had to see him
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: during his prime, you know? When he was... Talking about
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: martial arts and just skill. Angles and movement and speed
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: and intelligence. Knowing exactly how to engage and his ability
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: to transfer between... Grappling and striking seamlessly.
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: Dude.
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: Seamlessly. Perfect word.
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: Seamlessly.
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: In his prime. In his prime, he was unstoppable. Yeah.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: But imagine. Demetrius Johnson at light heavyweight. There'd be statues
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: of this man.
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: Statues. You know what I mean? It'd be like the
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: Rocky statue of Philadelphia.
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: Who knows where it would be, but there'd probably be
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: multiple statues of this man all over the place.
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: What a great guy, too. Oh, he's the best. And just, again,
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: just underappreciated for whatever reason. And during his reign, just
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: like his pay-per-view numbers were not what they should have
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: been yeah but it's because he's small that's all it
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: is it's like the casuals they they don't like who
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: gives a shit how big he is compared to you
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: just look at how he's the same size as the
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: guys fighting and look what he can do to that guy.
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: We need to just we need to have this is
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: a joke this isn't serious this is a joke but
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: like smaller weight classes in a smaller cage It will make.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: Them look bigger on television and people will get what
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: they want. No, they don't care. It's interesting because boxing
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: has the same thing. I mean, when you get into
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: the heavier weight, look, look. Usyk made somewhere in the
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: neighborhood of $ 132 million for that fight. That sounds amazing.
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: Doesn't it? Gross. Yeah, I know. It was me and
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: Volkanovski and Izzy were backstage at the UFC. We're at
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: the weigh-ins and I pulled up the numbers. I go,
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: have you seen the fucking numbers? There's a video of
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: it on Stylebender's website or his YouTube page. And I
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: go like, check this out. Because I had saved on
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: my phone in case I ran into any fighters. I'm like,
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: look at this. Look how crazy this is. And Dubois
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: made like 71 or 72 million. And Usyk made like 132.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: I mean, like, if I made that type of money,
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: I wouldn't have to, I wouldn't be looking to, like,
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: leave to.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Live the American dream. But what has to change for
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: that to happen? I mean, does the Saudis have to
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: buy the UFC? I don't know, because I don't understand, like.
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: Because that's kind of what they're doing with boxing. They're
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: kind of buying boxing.
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: I don't know, man.
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: I don't know, like, I don't know what needs to change. But,
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: I mean, all I'm saying is, like, it would be
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: really cool.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: That's, like, a dream. Yeah.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: To be able to make those kind of numbers.
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: I would really love that for fighters. I mean, I
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: love when I hear fighters are making millions. It's great.
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: It's great because I remember the early days of the
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: UFC where people would make pennies. Yeah. When there was
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: no money to be made. I mean, I started working
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: for them in 1997, the previous owners, you know, when
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: it was before Zufa. And nobody was making any money.
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: There was no money in MMA. You know, it's like
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: everybody was scratching and clawing and they were just doing
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: it out of the love of the game. Yeah. Or
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: because they had a career in wrestling, and then that
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: amateur wrestling career was over, and they're like, all right,
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: I'm going to be a fighter.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the money was in Japan, though.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: There was money in Japan. But even the money in
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: Japan was not boxing money. No, no, 10 grand, 15 grand,
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: something like that. I'm sure they paid him well, and
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: at the time it was a lot. But, I mean,
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: Fedor's still fighting. Is he fighting because he wants to,
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: or is he fighting because he has to? Which is crazy. Yeah.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: If one of the greatest of all time is fighting
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: because he has to, it's not like Fedor is living
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: the craziest, flashiest lifestyle, like Floyd Mayweather. If Floyd Mayweather
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: went broke, he'd be like, look at his Instagram. How
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: is he not going to go broke? Meanwhile, he's not. Meanwhile,
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: he's still got tons of money. But Floyd made hundreds
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: of millions of dollars. He probably made more money than
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: any boxer that's ever lived. Oh, man.
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a dream.
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: It's a dream.
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: It'd be nice, but I'm not, like, I'm glad that
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: it's improving.
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: It's improving. It's improving. It's definitely improving. It's definitely, it's like,
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: you know, fighters can get rich now. Yeah. You know? Yeah,
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: we can actually.
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: plan retirement yeah you know what i mean like that
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: yeah that that for now like i'm saying like i'm
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: grateful and.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: One of the things that i really like about the
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: ufc too is they give fighters a chance to have
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: a career outside of that you know like paul felder
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: and dc do commentary chel sonnen does his stuff yeah
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: all those guys in the desk alan joe band they
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: all do their stuff like Rashad does his stuff. That's nice.
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: I was like, there's, there's an opportunity to work outside
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: of having to fight.
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: You asked me, you know, like before, like, Oh, you know,
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: what would you do? Or like, have I thought about anything?
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: I honestly, I would love to work with UFC, not
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: as a commentator. Cause I don't really see myself like
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: commentating or like being, you know, someone speaking, but I'd
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: love to work for the UFC.
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: Why wouldn't you want to commentate or speak?
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: Uh, I don't know. I, I personally, I think I've
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: mentioned this to you before. Like, I just don't know
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: if I have so much like input, you know, when
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: it comes to like other fighters skill or whatever, like
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: I'm not the most exciting person on a microphone.
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: You know, like you guys do well. It's like, Oh,
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: you know, you guys have great reactions. I'm kind of
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: more like, Hmm, interesting. Like the old grandpa, you know, right, right, right, right.
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: Rubbing my chin. Like, But maybe not as a commentator then.
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: Maybe as someone on the desk analyzing things. Because you
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: definitely have a very unique viewpoint. Yeah, viewpoint.
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: I mean, that could work. But I think something like,
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: I don't know. I'd rather be, like, I guess behind,
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: like on the other side of the camera.
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: What would you want to be doing? I don't know.
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: Something within the business. Dude, that, like, the UFC is
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: such a large company. There's so many departments. I try
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: to make friends with everybody in every department because they're
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: just great people that make this all happen. The equipment team, Ember, Stephanie.
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: I've been testing the gloves for the UFC for the
- 2:00:05Speaker 2: past year. making sure we get the right ones.
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: What is going on with the gloves? Because you and
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: Alex fought with the new old gloves. The new old gloves.
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: Because they got rid of them. They spent like a
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: fucking year developing them. Yeah.
- 2:00:18Speaker 2: And so I was a part of that entire process.
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: What happened? What was wrong with those gloves?
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: The main thing was that because of the leather, the
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: logos weren't sticking.
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: So the logos were peeling off, peeling off, peeling off.
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: That's it? And we tried.
- 2:00:33Speaker 2: Joe, I'm telling you, we tried. hundreds of different ways
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: to get the UFC logo printed on the gloves so
- 2:00:42Speaker 2: that they will not come off in the octagon. From
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: me testing it on the canvas, doing live situations, sparring,
- 2:00:49Speaker 2: rubbing it in the cage, blah, blah.
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: I don't get it. Why does the old leather work better?
- 2:00:55Speaker 2: Because with everything in the world, but especially like in
- 2:01:01Speaker 2: the industry of like, like leather and suede and all
- 2:01:05Speaker 2: this stuff. Like you can't, if I had a pair
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: of leather shoes from 1970, it's going to be different
- 2:01:11Speaker 2: than the leather that's made today.
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: You get what I mean? Like it just, it changes.
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: Both of them are made today. The old gloves and
- 2:01:19Speaker 1: the new old gloves. It's a different type of leather.
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: So it's a softer leather.
- 2:01:24Speaker 2: It's just, it's, it's just not the same. Like it's, it's,
- 2:01:28Speaker 2: it's a little, it was a little softer, but it's, it's,
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: it's treated differently to be able to, you know, to,
- 2:01:36Speaker 2: to before, like while it's being processed or whatever that
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: whole like process looks like, it's just, there's some type of,
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: you know, chemical or something that's just different.
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: Cause what I had heard was that there was less
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: knockouts with the new old gloves, the gloves that they
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: developed and then they abandoned recently. There's less knockouts.
- 2:01:56Speaker 2: Cause I'm just hearing straight from what, You know, the
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: equipment team's being yelled at for.
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: So the equipment team is saying that's the issue, is
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: that this leather doesn't keep....
- 2:02:13Speaker 2: It's peeling off or chipping off, and that's a hazard
- 2:02:17Speaker 2: if it gets in your eye.
- 2:02:18Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It's more about the safety
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: of the fighter, not like, we need more knockouts, change
- 2:02:23Speaker 1: the gloves. Interesting. Because the knockout thing didn't make any sense. No, no, no.
- 2:02:27Speaker 2: It has nothing to do with the knockouts. It's more
- 2:02:29Speaker 2: that the logo wasn't adhering, and it doesn't look professional
- 2:02:32Speaker 2: to have these guys fighting a championship fight, and then
- 2:02:35Speaker 2: here's this guy raising his hand.
- 2:02:36Speaker 1: And you don't even know.
- 2:02:37Speaker 2: There's no UFC logo on the glove.
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: It all gets worn off. It all gets worn off. Wow.
- 2:02:42Speaker 2: So we've tried so many different.
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: Why not Magic Marker? That wouldn't work?
- 2:02:48Speaker 2: We can't sell a glove with Magic Marker on it.
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: We have to make an official glove.
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: But the training gloves just have UFC somewhere else. The
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: training gloves.
- 2:02:58Speaker 2: What about the people who want to buy an official
- 2:03:01Speaker 2: UFC glove?
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: Yeah, what are they doing with them? If they're going
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: to work out with them... It's still got to be official.
- 2:03:06Speaker 1: I get it. The best gloves are Trevor Whitman's. He
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: makes the best gloves. The best MMA gloves. They're the best.
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: And the UFC was trying to get those for some...
- 2:03:17Speaker 1: I don't want to speak out of line here or
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: out of turn. I don't know exactly what went on,
- 2:03:23Speaker 1: but apparently Trevor wanted more money than they were willing
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: to give him. But he makes the absolute best MMA gloves.
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: They're the best. It's a good glove. They turn over
- 2:03:33Speaker 1: like this, where it's not... Like this. So you don't, like,
- 2:03:37Speaker 1: the thing that people, the problem with the old gloves
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: that are now the gloves that everybody uses is that
- 2:03:42Speaker 1: everybody says that they kind of force your hand into
- 2:03:45Speaker 1: an open position and you have to tighten up to
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: make them close. Do you feel that? Do you agree
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: with that? I agree with that, but I have found
- 2:03:55Speaker 1: the solution to that. What's the solution? Just size up. Oh,
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: one size up? Yeah.
- 2:04:00Speaker 2: They all weigh the same.
- 2:04:02Speaker 1: Oh, interesting. Yeah.
- 2:04:04Speaker 2: So what size do you use? This last fight, I
- 2:04:06Speaker 2: used a double X.
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: And you usually use an X? Yeah. Interesting.
- 2:04:11Speaker 2: And I think it's like, you know, a lot of fighters,
- 2:04:14Speaker 2: we don't like to stray from what we do.
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 2:04:17Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 2:04:18Speaker 1: Every little thing can fuck with us. You know what
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: I mean?
- 2:04:21Speaker 2: Right. Some fighters.
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: Maybe I shouldn't have gone to XXL. Fuck.
- 2:04:24Speaker 2: Yeah. That's why I didn't knock him out.
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:04:28Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're, like, you just have to think. It's like, okay,
- 2:04:33Speaker 2: the glove weighs the same, whether it's an XL or
- 2:04:35Speaker 2: an extra small.
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: It weighs the same. How do they manage that? I
- 2:04:38Speaker 1: don't know. But it weighs the same. That sounds suspicious.
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: I'm going to get a fucking scale out. That just
- 2:04:48Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense. That doesn't make any sense to me.
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: But we're all fighting. Unless they make it with thinner pads.
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: I don't. It would have to be. Maybe. It would
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: have to be. Oh, yeah.
- 2:04:59Speaker 2: Because then your hand can't fit in the.
- 2:05:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:05:01Speaker 2: Like if I tried to get into an extra small,
- 2:05:04Speaker 2: it wouldn't work. So, yeah. But like let's say the
- 2:05:08Speaker 2: size between an XL and a XX, they weigh the same.
- 2:05:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:05:12Speaker 2: And I have to consider, okay, I'm getting my hands
- 2:05:15Speaker 2: wrapped as well.
- 2:05:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:05:16Speaker 2: So, yes, this XL glove fits like a glove. But
- 2:05:20Speaker 2: what about when I wrap my hands? Right. Now I
- 2:05:22Speaker 2: wrap my hands.
- 2:05:24Speaker 1: It's too tight.
- 2:05:25Speaker 2: And then now my hands are like.
- 2:05:26Speaker 1: This, and I'm like... Cutting off your circulation almost. Yeah.
- 2:05:29Speaker 2: So the idea is size up. Even if it's two
- 2:05:33Speaker 2: sizes up, you're not going to have an issue.
- 2:05:36Speaker 1: You know?
- 2:05:37Speaker 2: Or you go with a thinner wrap.
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: Or no wrap. You have that option. Well, Joe Pfeiffer
- 2:05:41Speaker 1: fights with no wrap. Yeah. Which is crazy. I think
- 2:05:44Speaker 1: it's savage. I kind of want to do it.
- 2:05:45Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:05:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:05:46Speaker 2: I would have fought with no wrap with the other glove.
- 2:05:49Speaker 1: The new glove. The new old glove.
- 2:05:52Speaker 3: The.
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: The new one that they abandoned. The old new glove. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:05:58Speaker 2: I would have fought. Those felt so much better to
- 2:06:01Speaker 2: me with no wrap.
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: Man, if I was the UFC, and clearly I'm not
- 2:06:05Speaker 1: a good businessman, but if I was, I would say, listen,
- 2:06:09Speaker 1: how about you sell us the gloves. We'll promote your gloves.
- 2:06:14Speaker 1: You sell them on your website. We don't make any
- 2:06:16Speaker 1: profit off of it. Just give us your gloves to
- 2:06:19Speaker 1: use for the fights, and we'll blow your business up.
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: That's what I would do.
- 2:06:23Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 2:06:23Speaker 1: I would say, look, you want a lot of money
- 2:06:25Speaker 1: for your gloves? Good. Sell them. Everybody should buy them anyway.
- 2:06:28Speaker 1: He makes the best bag gloves, best sparring gloves. Trevor's
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: a fucking wizard, man. Yeah, that's what I've gathered from
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: just like. Very interesting guy. Very smart guy. Great trainer.
- 2:06:40Speaker 1: Just a great person. But his gloves, his MMA gloves,
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: you put them on, you're like, oh, why aren't they
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: all like this? Yeah. The padding is a much more sophisticated,
- 2:06:50Speaker 1: high-tech padding.
- 2:06:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and the boxing. I remember, I think one time
- 2:06:52Speaker 2: he sent me a pair of boxing gloves. This was
- 2:06:56Speaker 2: a couple years ago, and I saw it came with
- 2:06:58Speaker 2: this paper, and you're supposed to put a blow dryer
- 2:07:00Speaker 2: in it first, and you turn the blow dryer on
- 2:07:03Speaker 2: to warm up the padding in there.
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: Specifically for that.
- 2:07:07Speaker 2: And then once it's heated up, then you put the
- 2:07:09Speaker 2: glove on, and you wrap it up, and then you
- 2:07:11Speaker 2: let the padding... cool down, and then it molds to
- 2:07:15Speaker 2: your hand. I don't know if people remember that about
- 2:07:17Speaker 2: the glove, but that's how you should wear those gloves.
- 2:07:21Speaker 1: Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know that. That makes sense.
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: But he was explaining to me the different kinds of
- 2:07:26Speaker 1: foam that you can buy, and that people buy cheap foam,
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: and it's not as high density, and it's not as good,
- 2:07:33Speaker 1: doesn't protect you as well. And his is the most expensive,
- 2:07:36Speaker 1: but the best. But when his gloves, the design of
- 2:07:39Speaker 1: his gloves, your hands are curled like this in this position.
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: So it's an effort to do that. But I don't know, man.
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: I feel like we're stagnant in innovation with glove development
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: in the first place because I don't think this is necessary. No.
- 2:07:56Speaker 2: I train with uh the old like ali mittens oh
- 2:08:00Speaker 2: okay those are my favorite gloves in the world to
- 2:08:03Speaker 2: do mma with put a wrap on under it you
- 2:08:07Speaker 2: know for for padding or a pad whatever and I
- 2:08:11Speaker 2: can still grapple with it.
- 2:08:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08:13Speaker 2: My fingers are just like this.
- 2:08:14Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Of course, but this is
- 2:08:16Speaker 1: how you grapple anyway. Yeah, exactly. You never do this. No.
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: You never interlace your fingers. So why are the fingers
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: even exposed? I don't know. Because eye pokes are a
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: giant issue. Yeah. And let's say you could just eliminate
- 2:08:27Speaker 1: finger pokes and all you have is thumb pokes. You
- 2:08:30Speaker 1: would take away 80, 90% of all eye pokes. Yeah.
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: And it would be obvious if someone did it on purpose.
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: Then Derek Lewis would be fucked. I'm on that interview.
- 2:08:42Speaker 2: I'll poke him in the eye, kick him in the nuts.
- 2:08:44Speaker 1: He's so crazy. What a guy. He was telling the
- 2:08:46Speaker 1: truth about hitting someone in the nuts because he was tired.
- 2:08:49Speaker 2: Yeah, he was like, I was tired. I needed five
- 2:08:50Speaker 2: more minutes or some shit. He was like, I'll poke
- 2:08:52Speaker 2: him in the eye.
- 2:08:52Speaker 1: I cheat.
- 2:08:53Speaker 2: He was just like, I cheat.
- 2:08:55Speaker 1: I was like, dude, what the hell?
- 2:08:57Speaker 2: But he's also crazy enough to say that he's like, oh, yeah,
- 2:09:02Speaker 2: the UFC is scripted.
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That was ridiculous.
- 2:09:06Speaker 2: I was like, dude, anybody. I was like, I know
- 2:09:08Speaker 2: you're joking, but like. The problem is that gets on
- 2:09:10Speaker 2: the internet.
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: There's so many people that now believe you. I knew it. Yeah.
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: There's so many people that believe you now. Like, that
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: was a funny joke, but damn it, dude. Bro, there's
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: no script. When you see the way he knocked out
- 2:09:22Speaker 1: Curtis Blades, there's no script for that, bro.
- 2:09:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't.
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: There's no script. That's just Derek has got some phenomenal
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: God-given power. He cannot script what we do. Yeah. No,
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: of course you can't script it. It's super obvious to
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: anybody that watches. That's the dumbest ever casual fan, like, comments.
- 2:09:40Speaker 1: It's a scripted fake.
- 2:09:41Speaker 2: He was supposed to win.
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: Yeah, like, ugh, stop. Stop, shut up. And then you
- 2:09:46Speaker 1: have Dana White made him win that fight. Oh, it's
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: so crazy to say. But that said, like, here's the thing.
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: You know, Aspinall's going to fight Cyril Ghosn. Yeah. I might.
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: If I was running things, I might set up the
- 2:10:01Speaker 1: Derek Lewis fight with Aspinall. I might say, forget Cyril
- 2:10:04Speaker 1: gone for now. Like, Derek just has this big knockout win.
- 2:10:08Speaker 1: Who's more popular than Derek? Who's more beloved by fans
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: than Derek?
- 2:10:14Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that would be a great fight to
- 2:10:16Speaker 2: set up.
- 2:10:17Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 2:10:18Speaker 2: But I think that from, I guess, a business standpoint,
- 2:10:21Speaker 2: it makes sense to use Cyril because of everything that
- 2:10:24Speaker 2: he's doing in France.
- 2:10:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:10:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:10:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes sense, right? Movie star. You know what
- 2:10:29Speaker 1: I mean?
- 2:10:29Speaker 2: He's got the entire country behind him now. So, like, yeah,
- 2:10:35Speaker 2: with the UFC, you know, expanding internationally, it's like, you know,
- 2:10:41Speaker 2: Aspinall is a, you know, British icon. Cyril's a French icon.
- 2:10:48Speaker 1: The whole Aspinall-John Jones thing is so crazy. The whole
- 2:10:51Speaker 1: thing is so crazy. Yeah, absolutely. John doesn't seem to.
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: John marches to the beat of his own drummer, son. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:11:01Speaker 2: I mean, like, he's dead set in what he wants
- 2:11:04Speaker 2: and how he views it.
- 2:11:06Speaker 1: But now he wants to fight for the title at
- 2:11:09Speaker 1: the White House. And Dana shut him down. And Dana's like, nope,
- 2:11:12Speaker 1: I can't trust John to not fuck something up. Yeah.
- 2:11:15Speaker 1: Which is wild. Yeah. But also, what are you going
- 2:11:18Speaker 1: to say when John just recently got in more trouble?
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: I mean, it's tough. I mean.
- 2:11:27Speaker 2: For Dana, you know, and his position, it's too risky.
- 2:11:31Speaker 1: It is. It's very risky. Oh, yeah.
- 2:11:34Speaker 2: And it sucks because it's like, man, you've got.
- 2:11:36Speaker 1: So much talent. The most talent.
- 2:11:38Speaker 2: And such an incredible resume.
- 2:11:41Speaker 1: Yeah. And there's nothing that I can really do about it. God,
- 2:11:45Speaker 1: the story is old as time, though, isn't it? Yeah.
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: The story is old as time. Well, that's one of
- 2:11:49Speaker 1: the things I appreciate about you. Like, you're a very
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: different kind of dude. you know, who's in the same business,
- 2:11:56Speaker 1: same wild ass chaotic business, but you choose to put
- 2:12:00Speaker 1: your sights on a different prize. Like you're, you're about growth,
- 2:12:05Speaker 1: you know, you're about your own mind and conquering these challenges.
- 2:12:10Speaker 1: And this is what it's about for you. Yeah.
- 2:12:12Speaker 2: I'm, I'm, I'm grateful and blessed to be in the
- 2:12:14Speaker 2: position that I'm in. And like, I don't want to,
- 2:12:17Speaker 2: I don't want to waste anything.
- 2:12:20Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 2:12:21Speaker 2: Like, I don't want to waste it. I want to
- 2:12:22Speaker 2: be able to look back when I'm older and, and
- 2:12:25Speaker 2: know that I use my time, you know, and in a,
- 2:12:29Speaker 2: in a good way, um, that I continue to grow
- 2:12:32Speaker 2: and to learn and develop, uh, until it's over, you know, like,
- 2:12:36Speaker 2: I think John.
- 2:12:37Speaker 1: Does that too, but also he just loves to party.
- 2:12:41Speaker 1: He just, he gets crazy. He just loves to get crazy.
- 2:12:45Speaker 2: And I think that like, we've seen that so many times,
- 2:12:49Speaker 2: like there's, We've seen so many athletes and celebrities fall
- 2:12:54Speaker 2: victim to fame and partying and what that comes with.
- 2:12:59Speaker 1: We're watching it with Connor in real life. And we've
- 2:13:01Speaker 1: seen the same people who are addicted to discipline. Who
- 2:13:07Speaker 1: you admire. Who are you going to listen to first
- 2:13:11Speaker 1: thing in the morning? You're going to listen to Khabib. Khabib. Yeah.
- 2:13:14Speaker 2: I mean, it's like if there is anybody as a
- 2:13:18Speaker 2: combat sports, you know, practitioner and fighter if there's anybody
- 2:13:23Speaker 2: who I would say like I'd want to be or
- 2:13:26Speaker 2: like model myself after in my career be Muhammad Ali
- 2:13:32Speaker 2: just because of everything you know what I mean like
- 2:13:36Speaker 2: humanitarian yeah like he was beloved by people from all
- 2:13:40Speaker 2: around the world you know what I mean like just
- 2:13:43Speaker 2: different medals from United nation. And like, you know what
- 2:13:46Speaker 2: I mean?
- 2:13:46Speaker 1: Like there's a cultural, cultural figure.
- 2:13:48Speaker 2: And like, not that like, I'm not as outspoken as,
- 2:13:52Speaker 2: you know, as he was, but for just like the
- 2:13:56Speaker 2: things that he was also remembered for outside of the ring,
- 2:14:00Speaker 2: I just look at that as like so admirable. And
- 2:14:02Speaker 2: he gave young men like me something to kind of
- 2:14:06Speaker 2: like aim at and like model myself after. you know,
- 2:14:10Speaker 2: like that to me, I feel like is very important,
- 2:14:12Speaker 2: especially in this country. And as a young man who
- 2:14:15Speaker 2: maybe doesn't have a father figure or who doesn't know
- 2:14:18Speaker 2: what to become. And then you read the story of
- 2:14:19Speaker 2: Ali and you're like, Oh, that's similar to me. I
- 2:14:22Speaker 2: can become something. I can be an Olympian. I can
- 2:14:25Speaker 2: be a champion. Like it just takes this, you know
- 2:14:27Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, like I'm not different. I'm actually,
- 2:14:31Speaker 2: there's actually people like, like me out there. And I like,
- 2:14:34Speaker 2: you know, it just gives you something to kind of
- 2:14:36Speaker 2: hope to become. And so I try to I try
- 2:14:41Speaker 2: to just be authentically me so that whoever out there
- 2:14:45Speaker 2: does connect with me can see that, you know, yeah,
- 2:14:49Speaker 2: you can go through certain shit, but like there's so
- 2:14:52Speaker 2: much stuff that is possible for you. Like your life's
- 2:14:55Speaker 2: not over. Yeah, you're in a bad position now, but
- 2:14:57Speaker 2: you can get yourself out of it. There's tons of
- 2:14:59Speaker 2: help out there. You know, mental health is a big thing.
- 2:15:03Speaker 2: You know, it's not the end of the world, you know,
- 2:15:06Speaker 2: and if you feel like it is, there's support there.
- 2:15:08Speaker 2: And if you actually have a disorder, there's support for
- 2:15:11Speaker 2: that too. There's also outlets like martial arts and communities
- 2:15:16Speaker 2: and things like that that will make you feel less
- 2:15:18Speaker 2: alone in life.
- 2:15:20Speaker 1: Martial arts is a big one. That's a big one.
- 2:15:23Speaker 1: For people that feel outside, go to a martial arts studio.
- 2:15:28Speaker 1: Go to a gym where you're going to find a
- 2:15:31Speaker 1: whole lot of people just like you that are already
- 2:15:34Speaker 1: on this path.
- 2:15:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:15:36Speaker 2: And that are cool people to learn from. I mean,
- 2:15:38Speaker 2: that's what changed. That's what I just put myself in
- 2:15:41Speaker 2: a new environment. And then I started learning how to
- 2:15:43Speaker 2: eat and how to think, you know what I mean?
- 2:15:46Speaker 2: And started to get courage and carry myself differently. And
- 2:15:49Speaker 2: the weight started coming down and blah, blah, blah.
- 2:15:51Speaker 1: And then there you go.
- 2:15:53Speaker 2: You know, my, my mental health stuff was a lot less,
- 2:15:56Speaker 2: you know, it's never gone away completely, you know, but it's.
- 2:16:00Speaker 1: A lot less than it was. when I was 19
- 2:16:03Speaker 1: years old. But I mean, does it ever go away
- 2:16:05Speaker 1: completely for anybody? It's life, you know what I mean?
- 2:16:07Speaker 2: Like it's life, but we don't, a lot of people,
- 2:16:10Speaker 2: we don't have the tools, you know, or we don't
- 2:16:12Speaker 2: have the people to listen to or whatever to be
- 2:16:15Speaker 2: able to be like, okay, it's not just me, it's everyone.
- 2:16:19Speaker 1: So what can I do to deal with this? You
- 2:16:21Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 2:16:21Speaker 2: Like, I think that, yeah, that's, that's kind of my,
- 2:16:26Speaker 2: my thing. So I think about when I, get on
- 2:16:28Speaker 2: a microphone or when I go fight or whatever, like
- 2:16:30Speaker 2: there's a sense of responsibility. It's not just about me
- 2:16:32Speaker 2: in this world, you know, like, and that's, it's, to
- 2:16:36Speaker 2: be honest, it's a struggle. It's hard to not, it's
- 2:16:38Speaker 2: hard to think that way. It's very easy to be selfish.
- 2:16:41Speaker 2: It's very easy to just think me, me, me, me, me,
- 2:16:44Speaker 2: you know, my problems, my struggles, my this, but like to,
- 2:16:48Speaker 2: to consider millions of people and lives and children and
- 2:16:55Speaker 2: and youth and teenagers that are watching the sport and
- 2:16:57Speaker 2: not at all.
- 2:16:58Speaker 1: Like I have to be conscious of.
- 2:17:00Speaker 2: Of the things that I do and how I live
- 2:17:01Speaker 2: my life because I don't want to be the guy
- 2:17:04Speaker 2: on the news. You know what I mean? Like, I
- 2:17:07Speaker 2: just don't want to be like, I'm terrible. I'm terrified
- 2:17:09Speaker 2: of prison.
- 2:17:10Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 2:17:11Speaker 2: I'm fucking, you know, I'm trying to make friends with
- 2:17:14Speaker 2: police officers.
- 2:17:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 2:17:16Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I'm like, I was just like, I'm just like, okay. Like,
- 2:17:21Speaker 2: trying to do the right thing not only for myself
- 2:17:24Speaker 2: but for my family for my father you know so
- 2:17:27Speaker 2: like there's just a lot of responsibility that comes with
- 2:17:29Speaker 2: with this game and and how we.
- 2:17:31Speaker 1: Live our lives man well that's very admirable and i'm
- 2:17:35Speaker 1: i'm glad there's people like you out there that do
- 2:17:37Speaker 1: present a very positive role model because i know for
- 2:17:40Speaker 1: a lot of young people they turn towards really successful
- 2:17:44Speaker 1: people in sports and particularly fighters. Especially if you are
- 2:17:48Speaker 1: a martial artist yourself and you look at someone who
- 2:17:51Speaker 1: carries themselves a certain way and you admire it and
- 2:17:54Speaker 1: you want to be like that person. I aspire to
- 2:17:58Speaker 1: be my own version of what that means to me,
- 2:18:00Speaker 1: what this person means to me, what they represent to me.
- 2:18:04Speaker 1: Which is like a championship mindset. There's a lot of
- 2:18:08Speaker 1: people with championship mindset that never become a champion, but
- 2:18:11Speaker 1: they 100% inspire people to live better lives. Yeah, and
- 2:18:18Speaker 1: that's the journey. That's the path that I'm on for
- 2:18:21Speaker 1: the rest of my life. Beautiful.
- 2:18:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:18:24Speaker 1: This is the best way to end the podcast. Yeah, absolutely. Listen, brother,
- 2:18:28Speaker 1: I appreciate you very much, and I wish you all
- 2:18:31Speaker 1: the best of luck, and I'm real excited to see
- 2:18:34Speaker 1: this fight with Yuri Prohaska.
- 2:18:36Speaker 2: Thanks, man.
- 2:18:36Speaker 1: It should be a banger.
- 2:18:37Speaker 2: Thanks for having me.
- 2:18:38Speaker 1: My pleasure. Congratulations on everything. Thanks, man. I look forward
- 2:18:41Speaker 1: to congratulating you again. Hell yeah. All right. All right. Bye, everybody. Later. Later.
- 2:18:57Speaker 1: you
