- 0:01Speaker 1: Wave.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:14Speaker 3: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:16Speaker 3: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:20Speaker 3: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:22Speaker 3: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:25Speaker 3: a hater. I was in Las Vegas this weekend, you know.
- 0:30Speaker 3: checking out Summer League situation, and I didn't realize that
- 0:35Speaker 3: it was a fight weekend. And apparently, Tyler Hero did
- 0:41Speaker 3: not realize it was a fight weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Or maybe Tyler Hero did know that it.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Was a fight weekend, but he misunderstood who the white
- 0:48Speaker 3: boy was that was going to be getting his ass whooped.
- 0:50Speaker 2: He thought that that might have been Conor McGregor. Incorrect.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It was you, son. It was you. Those of you
- 0:59Speaker 2: who don't know what happened. I gotta say.
- 1:03Speaker 3: This in a bit of a more broad sense, right?
- 1:06Speaker 3: This is the first weekend of NBA Summer League. And
- 1:10Speaker 3: I think, and I've never really talked to anybody about this.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I'm just making a certain level of assumption. But it's
- 1:16Speaker 3: kind of become just like a basketball epicenter sort of
- 1:20Speaker 3: situation because you've got NBA Summer League and then also
- 1:25Speaker 3: this big AAU tournament that goes on that same weekend.
- 1:28Speaker 3: And I've assumed, and I could be wrong, and a
- 1:30Speaker 3: big part of why they do that is All the.
- 1:33Speaker 2: NBA guys got AAU teams anyway. So then they're going
- 1:37Speaker 2: to be there, right?
- 1:38Speaker 3: So then you get like all the college coaches who
- 1:40Speaker 3: are going to be there because there's the AAU tournament
- 1:43Speaker 3: that is going on there.
- 1:44Speaker 2: And you got the NBA and they even had an
- 1:46Speaker 2: Aces game over the weekend. You understand what I'm saying?
- 1:48Speaker 2: So it's a lot going on there.
- 1:51Speaker 3: But I hadn't really given a lot of thought to
- 1:53Speaker 3: the AAU tournament, except for the fact that It's a
- 2:00Speaker 3: lot of teenagers walking around the casino. Now, they're not
- 2:03Speaker 3: stopping and sitting and playing no games or nothing, right?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I'm just saying all that to say, and.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I could be wrong, but I just don't feel like
- 2:12Speaker 3: Las Vegas is the place for high school activities. I
- 2:15Speaker 3: wouldn't care if it's the Nevada State Championship. I guess
- 2:17Speaker 3: Nevada shit is all the same. But you get where
- 2:19Speaker 3: I'm coming from, right? Like, I just don't think that's
- 2:21Speaker 3: the wisest idea.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Where else are they going to go? Reno?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Nevada's all Nevada, right?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah, right.
- 2:29Speaker 3: But even still, let's bring the teenagers to Vegas, man.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You're going to.
- 2:33Speaker 3: You go, I see a lot, a whole lot going
- 2:35Speaker 3: on there. Don't know if I would necessarily recommend it.
- 2:38Speaker 3: That's all I'm saying. But anyway, so apparently at Resort World,
- 2:42Speaker 3: they got like basketball courts, Ryan. And that's where there
- 2:44Speaker 3: was some form of practice.
- 2:46Speaker 2: It's out of Hero and out of Bayou over there.
- 2:48Speaker 3: And I know some people have asked the question about like,
- 2:51Speaker 3: how is it that this made the news? People get
- 2:52Speaker 3: in fights all the time because this happened in front.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Of a gang of people.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:57Speaker 2: This wasn't like a practice fight.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Tyler Hero sees Bam Adebayo, says something, and the greatest
- 3:05Speaker 3: detail from the report from the Athletic is.
- 3:08Speaker 2: The two words, without hesitation.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Where they said that Bam Adebayo, without hesitation, stole off
- 3:15Speaker 3: on Tyler Hero in the head area, I think was
- 3:18Speaker 3: the way that it was put.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You got to be careful about the specifics on that.
- 3:22Speaker 3: And for those of you who don't know, Tyler Hero
- 3:25Speaker 3: had got caught DMing with somebody on Instagram, complaining about
- 3:28Speaker 3: Bam and basically saying, I don't really understand. Like, I'm
- 3:31Speaker 3: the dude that they were trying to stop on offense.
- 3:34Speaker 3: He ain't even got to show up and y'all just
- 3:36Speaker 3: love him, which... Interestingly enough, it's not an unfair point.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Bit of a diet get-off-my-Dickerson situation.
- 3:43Speaker 1: It is.
- 3:43Speaker 2: It is, except it was on his name.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:46Speaker 2: It was on his name.
- 3:46Speaker 3: But no, I forget which writer it was that reported
- 3:49Speaker 3: that that was the thing that Jimmy Butler had also felt, because.
- 3:51Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 3:52Speaker 3: When they don't want to give Jimmy to Max, there's
- 3:53Speaker 3: always somebody that Jimmy's looking at like, you don't give
- 3:55Speaker 3: it to him?
- 3:55Speaker 6: Right.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Normally, Jimmy's right about this, but it is a pattern.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We cannot deny it. But Tyler Hero seemed to have
- 4:02Speaker 2: that same feeling.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I forget who it was, which one of the reporters
- 4:05Speaker 3: from Miami was like, yeah, man, guys on the team
- 4:07Speaker 3: wonder why it is all of us are in the
- 4:09Speaker 3: trade talks.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It ain't never him. So there's a certain level of
- 4:12Speaker 2: resentment that does exist.
- 4:16Speaker 3: However, I give Bam some credit because people often talk
- 4:22Speaker 3: about on-site, right? Like it's going to be an on-site situation.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I'm swinging on you.
- 4:31Speaker 3: On site very few people actually mean that even if
- 4:36Speaker 3: it is on site they got a temperate on the
- 4:39Speaker 3: front end with a little jibber jabber which means it's
- 4:41Speaker 3: not actually an on site it's on site i will
- 4:44Speaker 3: go over there and eventually perhaps i will swing no
- 4:47Speaker 3: based on the reports this was on site.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Bit of a heat seeking missile situation just straight.
- 4:54Speaker 2: On site Right there, right there. He'd been telling people,
- 4:58Speaker 2: if I see him, this is what I'm going to do.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And then he did it.
- 5:02Speaker 3: It was so on site in that way, Ryan, that
- 5:06Speaker 3: I asked people if Asia Wilson was there. Because don't
- 5:11Speaker 3: nobody make nobody get that battery in their back to
- 5:14Speaker 3: fight quite like that girl being there. Like if he
- 5:16Speaker 3: had been at the crib telling his girl, he'd go
- 5:18Speaker 3: whoop his ass the next time he saw him.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And his girl was there and he saw him. He
- 5:23Speaker 2: really got to do it. Like, in front of your partners,
- 5:25Speaker 2: we might have understood that you was just being a little,
- 5:28Speaker 2: you was a little aggy.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:29Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no.
- 5:30Speaker 4: He gets like that sometimes, yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Apparently, Bam, Bam could not be a Houston Rock. You
- 5:39Speaker 3: raise a good point there about to get off by Diggerson.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Bam would have run, apparently, Bam would have or might
- 5:46Speaker 3: have at least run up on Kevin Durant instantly.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Nah, he brought it to Tyler Hero.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And I want to know what voice Tyler Hero was
- 5:55Speaker 3: using in all of this. Because what they tell me
- 5:57Speaker 3: about Tyler Hero was it wasn't like that before.
- 6:01Speaker 2: He got to Kentucky. Then I'll never forget when he
- 6:05Speaker 2: got drafted.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I hadn't really paid that much attention to what his
- 6:08Speaker 3: get down was, but I saw him at the draft
- 6:10Speaker 3: and his whole thing and how he was acting.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And you can look it up on Twitter.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I said that the appropriate draft comp for him was
- 6:17Speaker 3: Scott Storch. He had all the way leaned in onto
- 6:21Speaker 3: this version of Tyler Hero that we now see. This
- 6:25Speaker 3: whole B-Rad situation. He was all the way there at
- 6:30Speaker 3: that point. And I want to know, when he get
- 6:32Speaker 3: hit in the face, does he get more B-Rad or
- 6:34Speaker 3: does he go back to being Brad? Does he take
- 6:40Speaker 3: it back to whatever it is? I personally am very
- 6:43Speaker 3: curious about that fact. That became the single biggest story
- 6:47Speaker 3: of the weekend, boys. Everybody has something to say and
- 6:50Speaker 3: ask about that.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Right. Nothing brings people together like a, not only a fight,
- 6:55Speaker 4: but a surprise, a fight they were not expecting.
- 6:58Speaker 2: A fight they weren't expecting.
- 7:00Speaker 3: And as we know, nothing makes a fight sell like
- 7:03Speaker 3: a little bit of chromatic contrast.
- 7:07Speaker 2: The thing is, this is where it gets weird. The
- 7:11Speaker 2: white dudes that are under the Tyler Hero archetype, they
- 7:16Speaker 2: don't get the support of their own people. unless they
- 7:20Speaker 2: come back home, right?
- 7:24Speaker 3: And I wonder, and remember.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Tyler's back in Wisconsin now. Think about this.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Dave was mad at Tyler Hero coming out of high
- 7:31Speaker 3: school because he didn't go to Wisconsin. Not only did
- 7:34Speaker 3: he not go to Wisconsin, he went off and got
- 7:36Speaker 3: less Wisconsin than he ever could have been.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And now he coming back to play for the Bucs.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And I don't know, man.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Maybe he can hang out with Cuckoo Cal and some
- 7:45Speaker 3: of the other Milwaukee hip hoppers.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I have no idea who it is that he's going
- 7:49Speaker 2: to hang out with. But I do feel like, and
- 7:51Speaker 2: I could be wrong, somebody will have to go ask
- 7:54Speaker 2: the whites. But if Tyler Herro.
- 7:57Speaker 3: wants to get the sympathy that you normally get because
- 7:59Speaker 3: some mean black guy, when it's stolen off on you
- 8:02Speaker 3: out of nowhere, he's going to have to repent. You know?
- 8:07Speaker 2: He's going to have to acknowledge some of his sins.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Not apologize, repent.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's got to come back.
- 8:15Speaker 2: He's got to pay this off.
- 8:17Speaker 3: He's got some debt to pay off as he returns.
- 8:22Speaker 4: You know he's repenting if he shows up in a
- 8:23Speaker 4: Packers jersey?
- 8:25Speaker 3: I think that's a part of it, because he might
- 8:27Speaker 3: have turned into a Raiders fan, right? This is how
- 8:31Speaker 3: you know that he's made the decision to come back.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You'll know he's made this decision to come back when
- 8:38Speaker 3: he takes the path that many others in his situation
- 8:44Speaker 3: have taken. I remember the first time I really noticed it,
- 8:50Speaker 3: I want to say it was in the year 1999,
- 8:54Speaker 3: around 2000. I saw it again, maybe about five years ago,
- 9:04Speaker 3: give or take. And most recently, I think I saw
- 9:10Speaker 3: it one or two years ago. And when I saw
- 9:15Speaker 3: it happen one or two years ago, it was Post Malone.
- 9:20Speaker 3: And when I saw it about five years ago, It
- 9:24Speaker 3: was Justin Timberlake. And when I saw it in 1999,
- 9:30Speaker 3: it was Everlast.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Excuse me, Whitey Ford. That's right. That's right.
- 9:38Speaker 3: You know what time it is for Tyler Hero. If
- 9:40Speaker 3: you want to get him back, you want to get
- 9:42Speaker 3: the crowd back on your side, time for you to
- 9:46Speaker 3: go to the pawn shop.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And go get you an acoustic guitar.
- 9:55Speaker 4: That's right.
- 9:56Speaker 2: You go ahead and do that. You go there. You
- 9:59Speaker 2: get that acoustic guitar.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Guitar.
- 10:01Speaker 2: You learn you three chords. All you need is three, baby.
- 10:05Speaker 2: You go get you three chords. You go learn some
- 10:09Speaker 2: old standards of sorts. You know what I mean?
- 10:11Speaker 3: In fact, you should have started practicing in Las Vegas
- 10:16Speaker 3: getting the crew back. You had a test audience for
- 10:19Speaker 3: you to work this out with while you was there.
- 10:21Speaker 3: It's all them people that came to see Kenny Chesney.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Interesting crowd, I'm sure. A little different from the summer
- 10:27Speaker 4: league crowd.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Well, keep in mind, there's a Conor McGregor crowd also.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Oh, I forgot about, I forgot about that.
- 10:33Speaker 2: However, the Kenny Chesney crowd was easy to specify.
- 10:37Speaker 4: I'm sure they were.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Out of the other ones, but.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I think maybe Tyler Herro needed to go there. Or
- 10:42Speaker 3: maybe he needed to, because it'd be too much for
- 10:44Speaker 3: him to go all the way there. Maybe he stops
- 10:46Speaker 3: at the Conor McGregor crowd on the way back. Like,
- 10:48Speaker 3: this is how you.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Kind of work it out.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Or, or, or, or, he got to double down on
- 10:57Speaker 3: what it was. Here's why that worries me. I feel
- 11:03Speaker 3: like I've seen very similar movies before with people like
- 11:07Speaker 3: this in these circumstances. where they get stole on and
- 11:10Speaker 3: they need to make sure that everybody know they ain't
- 11:12Speaker 3: no punk. Please don't start carrying a gun.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And who knows, maybe he carries one already. I have
- 11:26Speaker 2: no idea.
- 11:27Speaker 3: But I'm just saying, please don't. Yeah, yeah, I'm just
- 11:30Speaker 3: sitting here right here. Like, please, please don't. Like, again,
- 11:34Speaker 3: I know you're going back to Wisconsin. If you want
- 11:35Speaker 3: to get a gun so you can shoot some animals...
- 11:37Speaker 3: It's a little bit of a different situation, you know? But,
- 11:40Speaker 3: you know, very often, again, in these times, people feel
- 11:44Speaker 3: they got to do what it take to get back
- 11:46Speaker 3: their respect. And maybe sometime they go a little bit farther.
- 11:50Speaker 3: And I'm going to be honest, if I was him,
- 11:52Speaker 3: I'd be a little bit worried that all these cats...
- 11:55Speaker 3: The rest of them go start stealing off on me
- 11:56Speaker 3: for no reason. Also, just because I didn't really hear
- 11:59Speaker 3: nothing in the story about him hitting nobody back.
- 12:01Speaker 4: No, no, no. It was not. They got an altercation.
- 12:05Speaker 4: It was great. Bam out of body. Yeah. Hit him
- 12:10Speaker 4: in the face here. Facial area.
- 12:12Speaker 2: That is a great point.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 2: So you see why I'm worried, right?
- 12:14Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Like, like.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Ain't nothing worse than.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Somebody in that situation that then feel like they got.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Something to prove. And hey, who knows?
- 12:21Speaker 3: Maybe Tyler Herro gonna hear this and he gonna feel
- 12:24Speaker 3: like he can prove it, run.
- 12:25Speaker 2: It up on me. I'll take that for the squad.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Ain't nobody gonna die. You know what I'm saying? It
- 12:31Speaker 2: ain't gonna happen, right? Like I'd appreciate it if you
- 12:33Speaker 2: didn't like pull no, you ain't gotta pull no tool
- 12:35Speaker 2: on me. You ain't got a pistol with me. All
- 12:36Speaker 2: you gotta do is come and talk real mean in
- 12:38Speaker 2: my face, right?
- 12:39Speaker 3: You tall enough than me, I'll give you the satisfaction.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I'll let you get your money's worth, right? I'll take
- 12:45Speaker 3: that all for everybody if that's the route that you
- 12:47Speaker 3: wanna take just to keep everything safe. But in the
- 12:51Speaker 3: long run, brother, I'm telling you, let's think about some
- 12:55Speaker 3: of these songs that you might wanna learn the words to.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Fire and Rain, Country Roads. You know, I'm just saying,
- 13:05Speaker 3: these are the kind of songs that, you know, Sweet Caroline.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Just saying. Like, when you go back, man, you might
- 13:10Speaker 2: want to play them, play them some jams that they do, right?
- 13:16Speaker 2: But you got to think about how you move past this.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Friends in Wild Places.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's... Call it Bat Rouge. Isn't that what y'all
- 13:22Speaker 2: like over there?
- 13:23Speaker 4: We sure do.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Yeah, like this is how you make your path back. Or, or, or,
- 13:30Speaker 3: somebody start playing Eye of the Tiger or whatever the
- 13:33Speaker 3: name of the song is, the Biggie sample for victory,
- 13:37Speaker 3: and prepare yourself for.
- 13:38Speaker 2: That first game against the Heat. Because you got to
- 13:41Speaker 2: come out there and spill off on that motherfucker as
- 13:42Speaker 2: soon as you see him out there. I don't know.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 13:46Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 13:47Speaker 2: But the plan that's going to make you the most money...
- 13:50Speaker 2: Three chords. Three chords and a dream.
- 13:59Speaker 3: All right, the other basketball story that actually isn't from
- 14:02Speaker 3: Summer League is kind of wild that Victor Wimbayama signed
- 14:05Speaker 3: his extension. Five years, $ 252 million. It's a lot of money,
- 14:12Speaker 3: but it's $ 50 million less than he could have signed for. Now,
- 14:20Speaker 3: It's safe to assume that this is about the NBA
- 14:23Speaker 3: in their apron situation and creating a situation where these
- 14:27Speaker 3: other cats can get their money or can get some
- 14:31Speaker 3: money and they can hold the team together.
- 14:35Speaker 2: He can do whatever he wants with his money, right?
- 14:39Speaker 3: And maybe this makes him the nicest guy in the
- 14:42Speaker 3: world because I feel like what he did was, and
- 14:48Speaker 3: someone could correct me if I'm wrong here, I feel
- 14:52Speaker 3: like he made the sacrifice so that nobody else would
- 14:58Speaker 3: have to sacrifice.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You understand what I'm saying?
- 15:01Speaker 3: So since Victor do that to get his money, nobody
- 15:05Speaker 3: else has to do that in order to save their money.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I would not recommend setting that precedent, right? Now, to
- 15:15Speaker 3: be fair to him, and Ryan, I think this is
- 15:17Speaker 3: a big part of it. It's a little different when
- 15:21Speaker 3: you do this, and it's about hypothetical personnel moves that
- 15:26Speaker 3: you'll be making. We know the guys that they need
- 15:29Speaker 3: to give the money to.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:30Speaker 2: We saw them out there, right? It's Dillon Harper. It's Castle.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Who are all going to be coming up with a
- 15:38Speaker 4: very similar extension in the next year or two.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, or somewhere in there, right?
- 15:42Speaker 3: So I don't think he winds up in the situation
- 15:45Speaker 3: like Dirk Nowitzki. Where Dirk was just out here putting
- 15:48Speaker 3: all these kids through private school just so they could go, like,
- 15:51Speaker 3: win 40 games.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Right?
- 15:53Speaker 3: Like, they ain't never made no good decisions with Dirk's
- 15:56Speaker 3: money that he kept.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Giving back to them year after year.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Well, it turns out that Mark Cuban might not have
- 16:01Speaker 4: been the best basketball mind.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Fair.
- 16:03Speaker 4: If we've learned anything from the way he's given interviews.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Over the last year and a half. But the bottom
- 16:07Speaker 3: line is, if he's going to get his money back,
- 16:09Speaker 3: I need to know where it's going.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Right. Right?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Like, there's some friends that they call you and be like, yo, man,
- 16:13Speaker 3: I need to borrow some money. You don't ask no questions.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You give it to them. Some others would be like, yeah,
- 16:16Speaker 2: what's this going to? What's this for?
- 16:19Speaker 4: What happened?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 3: And so it's interesting because I think the new head
- 16:23Speaker 3: of the Players Association.
- 16:27Speaker 2: This week did a press conference.
- 16:29Speaker 3: His big thing was about how we got to do
- 16:31Speaker 3: something about the second apron. Which does not seem to
- 16:34Speaker 3: be good for the players, right?
- 16:36Speaker 4: No.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Not for the players that want to stay places.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I think if you just look at it through a
- 16:41Speaker 3: very binary lens of more money, get it wherever you want,
- 16:45Speaker 3: but I think that guys, especially if you've got a
- 16:47Speaker 3: good little situation with a.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Team, they kind of want to keep that thing together.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody from the league who says
- 16:51Speaker 3: it feels like what's happened with these things has been
- 16:54Speaker 3: an unmitigated success, and the comparison that he made was
- 16:56Speaker 3: that Nobody cares about guys changing teams to the NFL
- 16:59Speaker 3: every year. And that's a yes and no sort of situation.
- 17:02Speaker 3: You're correct, but that's just a different game. I prefer
- 17:06Speaker 3: the dynasty soccer with the NBA. And I do think
- 17:09Speaker 3: that fans don't like the idea that they have to
- 17:12Speaker 3: lose their players just because they got too good.
- 17:15Speaker 2: In the NFL, you don't get nearly as much of
- 17:17Speaker 2: that feeling.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Like in the NFL, when a guy leaves the team,
- 17:20Speaker 3: normally it's because the team wants the guy to leave.
- 17:22Speaker 4: And also, in the NFL, like, lots of players leave,
- 17:24Speaker 4: but the top five or six players in a dynasty
- 17:27Speaker 4: don't normally leave.
- 17:28Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Right, like, you know, like, the back end of the
- 17:32Speaker 4: roster changes, but the face of the franchise is, if
- 17:34Speaker 4: you were on a sustained run, those guys are often there.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we're looking at things happening with the number two
- 17:39Speaker 3: and the number three guys on the team.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and that doesn't quite feel as good. And so.
- 17:48Speaker 3: The Jalen Brunson thing, I think, has led to the
- 17:50Speaker 3: idea of the charm of, hey, I'll give back a
- 17:52Speaker 3: little bit of money so that we can make these
- 17:55Speaker 3: big moves. But remember, Jalen Brunson was negotiating in a
- 17:58Speaker 3: situation with a team.
- 17:59Speaker 2: That gave his daddy a job.
- 18:02Speaker 3: The general manager, who was his daddy's agent, and his agent,
- 18:06Speaker 3: who is the general manager's son. That's very my seeds,
- 18:11Speaker 3: marry his seeds, marry his seeds. That's how we keep
- 18:13Speaker 3: Wu-Tang money all up in the family.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That's what they were doing.
- 18:17Speaker 3: By the way, that is exactly how Leon Rose described
- 18:20Speaker 3: it when they got together to talk about that. That's
- 18:22Speaker 3: how we keep Wu-Tang money all up in the family.
- 18:24Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I promise you. Look it up. It's law.
- 18:31Speaker 3: But anyway, I will never like, I do not like
- 18:33Speaker 3: ever that it's this guy's job or they feel the
- 18:37Speaker 3: obligation to do the job of the general manager. That
- 18:40Speaker 3: they feel the obligation to figure out how to get
- 18:43Speaker 3: this done. But to be fair, I don't know necessarily
- 18:47Speaker 3: how the general managers, unless you're Sam Presti and you
- 18:49Speaker 3: just got a zillion draft picks that allow you to
- 18:52Speaker 3: figure it out.
- 18:53Speaker 2: I don't know what else there.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Is, but If somehow... So, okay. So this is actually
- 18:58Speaker 3: an interesting progression with the agent.
- 19:00Speaker 2: With the union, that is. That the union has typically
- 19:03Speaker 2: been a middle-class players union, right? It's always been a.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Like mid-tier level guy who's in charge. And the CBAs
- 19:13Speaker 3: have always been.
- 19:14Speaker 4: CJ McCollum. No, no, no, no.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Not even him. That's a little too high up. That's
- 19:18Speaker 2: a little too high up. Derek Fisher's a better example.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Okay, got it. That makes sense.
- 19:21Speaker 3: But yeah, but it's just a run of guys. Like
- 19:24Speaker 3: the CBAs have been good to the middle class of
- 19:26Speaker 3: the NBA. And then we saw, I think it was
- 19:29Speaker 3: the 2011 lockout. That's when we saw the stars come back.
- 19:32Speaker 3: That's Chris Paul being in charge. And the stars started
- 19:36Speaker 3: to get some things to take care of them better.
- 19:38Speaker 3: on the top end of this because that's the thing
- 19:40Speaker 3: about sports union stuff is and there could be a
- 19:43Speaker 3: wide range of what everybody's looking for in coming out
- 19:48Speaker 3: of this right so then yeah cj mccollum is a
- 19:50Speaker 3: little bit more toward that obviously than the chris paul
- 19:53Speaker 3: example but this has been a very good union to
- 19:58Speaker 3: pretty good players because that's the max contract is great
- 20:01Speaker 3: for pretty good players because since you can't give all
- 20:04Speaker 3: the money to the excellent players the pretty good players
- 20:08Speaker 3: Get to get a chunk.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Right. The like 15th to 30th best player in the
- 20:12Speaker 4: NBA have it.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Probably have the best deal in the NBA.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Because there's money left over and that money comes down
- 20:21Speaker 3: to them. And what we did see for a while
- 20:25Speaker 3: and why they had to change these things up was
- 20:27Speaker 3: starting with the decision. We did see some guys start
- 20:30Speaker 3: being willing to give up a little money to make
- 20:32Speaker 3: something happen because the NBA's whole thing was, we'll just
- 20:34Speaker 3: money with you. Like, that's how we'll get the guys
- 20:37Speaker 3: to stay on teams. We're just going to money whip you.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Now they're like, we don't really care if you stay
- 20:43Speaker 3: on teams. How about that?
- 20:44Speaker 2: When you think about it, it's a really weird play.
- 20:47Speaker 3: In the end, there used to be all these things
- 20:48Speaker 3: with the CBA to let you go over to keep
- 20:51Speaker 3: your own players, right? All the things that you can
- 20:53Speaker 3: do to keep your own players, to give you the
- 20:54Speaker 3: advantage and your ability to keep your own players so
- 20:57Speaker 3: they wouldn't go anywhere else. Now the game has changed
- 20:59Speaker 3: because these guys don't even wait till free agency anymore.
- 21:02Speaker 3: They sign the deals early and then they force a trade, right?
- 21:06Speaker 3: Which has now led to this evolution of the game
- 21:09Speaker 3: where they're like, okay, well, we're just going to have
- 21:11Speaker 3: to just keep moving guys around.
- 21:12Speaker 2: How about that?
- 21:13Speaker 3: It's just going to be like this game of musical chairs, basically,
- 21:16Speaker 3: to get the guys out. But what it should never
- 21:19Speaker 3: be is cats got to feel like they should give
- 21:21Speaker 3: up bread.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Especially in their first big contract, right? Like this is
- 21:25Speaker 4: not like, I mean, right.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And to be clear, he took what would have been
- 21:31Speaker 2: the max. This is Victor. He took what would have
- 21:34Speaker 2: been the max.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Had he not been defensive player of the year, because
- 21:38Speaker 3: that entitled him to the 30% max, the Derrick Rose max,
- 21:42Speaker 3: as opposed to the 25% max. He just took the 25%.
- 21:47Speaker 4: But the 30% max is created for players like Victor Wimminyama.
- 21:51Speaker 2: You have to earn it.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Right, exactly.
- 21:53Speaker 2: They put a whole provision in on purpose.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 21:57Speaker 3: It's why it's called the Derrick Rose rule, right?
- 22:00Speaker 2: It's put in specifically. I think Derrick Rose was the
- 22:03Speaker 2: first guy to get it. That's why it became him.
- 22:04Speaker 3: But it's like, it's put there specifically for guys like
- 22:08Speaker 3: you to be able to cash in. And I'm sorry,
- 22:12Speaker 3: a world where guys do that is the greatest thing
- 22:15Speaker 3: to ever happen to the bosses. The outright greatest thing
- 22:21Speaker 3: to ever happen to the bosses. And that kind of stinks, right?
- 22:25Speaker 3: So anybody else that's out there, I'm just telling you
- 22:27Speaker 3: right now, you don't have to.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Do this shit.
- 22:30Speaker 3: If you want to, It's your world. But, like, you
- 22:35Speaker 3: don't have to do that. I don't know if you've
- 22:39Speaker 3: ever seen Chappelle's got a bit he does where he
- 22:40Speaker 3: talks about when he walked away from the Comedy Central money.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Yes.
- 22:46Speaker 3: And he said, you know, I didn't get paid the
- 22:48Speaker 3: $ 50 million. But I did get paid, I think we'll
- 22:52Speaker 3: call it, let's just say the number was, like, closer
- 22:54Speaker 3: to $ 10 million.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 2: And he's like, look, the difference between $ 50 million and
- 22:58Speaker 2: $ 10 million isn't that big in applications.
- 23:02Speaker 3: You still go to the same places with $ 10 million
- 23:04Speaker 3: that you will with $ 50 million. You still hang out
- 23:06Speaker 3: with the same people. You can still do all these same.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Things, da, da, da.
- 23:11Speaker 3: And he says, in the end, the difference between $ 50
- 23:15Speaker 3: million and $ 10 million is a mere $ 40 million. And
- 23:24Speaker 3: however you hear that, that is real.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Like I remember we were talking about Buddy Joel, about
- 23:30Speaker 3: the idea of the boy of these guys boycotting Southern schools.
- 23:33Speaker 2: He's like, we're not asking for a big sacrifice.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Just take five million dollars instead of six.
- 23:38Speaker 2: What the fuck are you talking about? We're not having
- 23:40Speaker 2: a 20 percent raise. You know, not cussing at you, Joel,
- 23:43Speaker 2: but that's a million dollars. Yeah, that's a bet. That's
- 23:46Speaker 2: a big trade. Yeah, that's a big trade.
- 23:48Speaker 3: And now what's the difference between having two hundred fifty
- 23:50Speaker 3: million dollars and three hundred million dollars? Oh, meditating Buddhist-ass Victor. Honestly,
- 23:58Speaker 3: I see him as being the guy that doesn't see
- 24:00Speaker 3: the difference. I see the difference. You know why I
- 24:03Speaker 3: see the difference? It's not even the difference about what
- 24:06Speaker 3: goes in my pocket. It's about what comes out of
- 24:08Speaker 3: your pocket. Show me that respect. Now, maybe he feels
- 24:13Speaker 3: he's already received all that respect. Maybe he's willing to,
- 24:15Speaker 3: he gets so much respect, he can give some of
- 24:17Speaker 3: his respect to.
- 24:18Speaker 2: These other guys on the team. I'm not sure.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I'm just telling Victor, when dudes start running up on
- 24:24Speaker 3: you in the locker room and asking to borrow money
- 24:26Speaker 3: because it just seemed like you were that kind of guy,
- 24:30Speaker 3: just remember why that happened, right? You showed them your benevolence.
- 24:34Speaker 3: When it comes to money, you just need to show
- 24:37Speaker 3: them your agent. On the biggest stage in the world,
- 24:46Speaker 3: FanDuel is changing the game. Because sometimes your player gets
- 24:50Speaker 3: subbed off and your bet goes with them.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Not anymore.
- 24:54Speaker 3: With FanDuel Super Sub, if your player is subbed out,
- 24:57Speaker 3: your bet stays in.
- 24:59Speaker 2: That's right.
- 24:59Speaker 3: If your player leaves the match, your bet continues all
- 25:02Speaker 3: with the substitute. So you're still in it until the
- 25:05Speaker 3: final whistle. Because in matches like these, anything can happen
- 25:09Speaker 3: and now your bet can go to the distance.

- 26:17Speaker 4: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, brought to you
- 26:20Speaker 4: by FanDuel. Number one, number two pick dueled off on
- 26:24Speaker 4: Thursday night for FanDuel. AJ Devonsa taking on Darren Peterson.
- 26:28Speaker 4: You were at that game. What were your thoughts?
- 26:31Speaker 2: I think we need to figure out how to use
- 26:33Speaker 2: this boy.
- 26:33Speaker 3: They was in there dueling off. You know what I'm saying?
- 26:36Speaker 3: The boys dueling off in front of everybody. So I
- 26:39Speaker 3: was there for that game. It was very interesting. And
- 26:42Speaker 3: the arena was heavily invested because, you know, especially those
- 26:45Speaker 3: of us on the East, we don't think too much about.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The geography of it. But Utah, very close.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Okay?
- 26:52Speaker 3: Like, I went to the Grand Canyon while I was
- 26:55Speaker 3: out there.
- 26:55Speaker 2: You can go there from Utah also. I didn't realize that.
- 26:57Speaker 2: You can go from Vegas, you can go from Phoenix,
- 26:58Speaker 2: you can go from Utah. I didn't realize that.
- 26:59Speaker 4: I mean, there's multiple sides of the Grand Canyon. It's
- 27:01Speaker 4: a big thing.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 2: But either way, the proximity is that it's close enough.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Oh, not yet.
- 27:06Speaker 3: So what you had was on one side, the BYU guy.
- 27:10Speaker 3: On the other side, the Utah Jazz. So, like, Utah
- 27:14Speaker 3: was in the house.
- 27:16Speaker 2: For that game. Those boys are going to be all-stars. Very,
- 27:20Speaker 2: very close. very soon.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And they were both, by the way, very heavily invested
- 27:25Speaker 3: in that game.
- 27:26Speaker 4: They don't like each other.
- 27:27Speaker 2: It does. They do not want it.
- 27:29Speaker 3: The thing you got to remember is from talking to
- 27:32Speaker 3: guys like around the circuit, Peterson was seen by a
- 27:34Speaker 3: lot of people as absolutely that guy. Like I said,
- 27:36Speaker 3: I mean, there, there are more people, the people who
- 27:39Speaker 3: think the Bansa is better than Peterson are not nearly
- 27:43Speaker 3: as dismissive as the people who think Peterson is better than.
- 27:47Speaker 2: The Bansa, you know, like it's really there. Um, Peterson
- 27:52Speaker 2: is that guy.
- 27:52Speaker 3: The only thing I wondered about Peterson from watching how
- 27:55Speaker 3: he's being guarded, again, it's summer league basketball, which is weird,
- 27:58Speaker 3: but those guys are getting really physical with him and
- 28:00Speaker 3: he didn't seem quite as equipped to handle it, which
- 28:02Speaker 3: seems a little strange because he's got an NBA body,
- 28:04Speaker 3: so to speak. DeBansa, 6'9, coming downhill, dog. There's something
- 28:10Speaker 3: to that. He's coming to yam on people, everything else.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I will say one last thing, and I think it's
- 28:15Speaker 3: important just for people to know. I talked to somebody
- 28:18Speaker 3: who's affiliated with the Kansas program. And I asked the
- 28:25Speaker 3: read on Peterson and the guy couldn't have been more unequivocal.
- 28:29Speaker 3: He said, Kansas did him a disservice with the narratives
- 28:35Speaker 3: that surrounded him. Like disservice was the word that was used.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I'm just saying whatever the apprehensions may be that you
- 28:43Speaker 3: have about Peterson from what happened at Kansas, the people
- 28:46Speaker 3: at Kansas don't have those apprehensions.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Throwing it out there.
- 28:50Speaker 4: That's interesting, especially that, you know, they spent so much
- 28:52Speaker 4: time with him over the last few months. All right.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Some more basketball news. The Clippers rafters trades centered around
- 28:59Speaker 4: Kawhi Leonard is on hold and will not be completed
- 29:03Speaker 4: until the NBA investigation into whether the Clippers circumvented the
- 29:07Speaker 4: salary cap is completed. That got announced on Thursday. They
- 29:12Speaker 4: silver said they hope to finish this investigation and process
- 29:16Speaker 4: in a few weeks. Bo, what are your thoughts?
- 29:18Speaker 3: Um, If it takes weeks, they're being ridiculous. Like, I don't... Wow,
- 29:25Speaker 3: that seems crazy to me, if it would take weeks.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I will tell you this, though.
- 29:29Speaker 3: If I'm talking to people, you know, in the league
- 29:32Speaker 3: office there, nobody knows.
- 29:37Speaker 2: This one is wrapped up tight. It seems to be.
- 29:40Speaker 3: A very need-to-know situation on what's going on with this investigation.
- 29:48Speaker 3: From the conversations I was having while I was around there,
- 29:52Speaker 3: the Clippers are unequivocal. They didn't do anything wrong. They firmly, firmly,
- 29:59Speaker 3: firmly are riding out the idea they didn't do anything wrong.
- 30:01Speaker 3: If you saw the union statement about it, they are unequivocal.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Kawhi didn't do anything wrong. I have no idea if
- 30:09Speaker 3: that is true, but ordinarily there's a level of equivocation
- 30:13Speaker 3: that you see from guilty parties that hasn't come from anybody.
- 30:17Speaker 3: We've seen what bombers had to say about this. That's
- 30:21Speaker 3: just for whatever it's worth. Nobody seems to think that
- 30:24Speaker 3: trade is actually going to be on hold.
- 30:27Speaker 2: For whatever it's worth. But I can't believe this is
- 30:31Speaker 2: still going on, right?
- 30:33Speaker 3: It's gone on so long that people are now more
- 30:36Speaker 3: loudly saying, in public at least, do we care? You know,
- 30:42Speaker 3: I think that's the big question, that in the end,
- 30:45Speaker 3: I don't think there's going to be a satisfying ending
- 30:47Speaker 3: to this for anybody. I think that if the league
- 30:50Speaker 3: says nothing happened, there will be many people who find
- 30:53Speaker 3: it to be conspiratorial.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Um.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I think if they say something happened and the punishment
- 31:00Speaker 3: is not heavy, then people are going to say or
- 31:04Speaker 3: a certain segment of people will say you're just defending
- 31:07Speaker 3: Steve Ballmer. If they do say something happened and the
- 31:11Speaker 3: penalty is harsh, those of us with good sense are
- 31:13Speaker 3: going to say, who cares?
- 31:16Speaker 2: Right. Like in the end, deep down.
- 31:19Speaker 3: They paid their max guy a little extra money. That
- 31:23Speaker 3: is what leads me to believe, by the way, that
- 31:25Speaker 3: nothing happened because I've never understood what the incentives.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Were for the Clippers to do all this.
- 31:32Speaker 3: To pay extra money to somebody that nobody else could
- 31:35Speaker 3: pay as much money as they did.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 31:38Speaker 4: It's not a bidding war.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 31:40Speaker 3: That's the part that nobody can explain to me. Like
- 31:43Speaker 3: when Joe Smith, the legendary cap circumvention situation, and also
- 31:47Speaker 3: the Clippers tried it with DeAndre Jordan, but that period,
- 31:50Speaker 3: Joe Smith and DeAndre Jordan, those are the guys that
- 31:53Speaker 3: you circumvent the cap for.
- 31:54Speaker 2: And I know that sounds crazy. You're like, those guys
- 31:56Speaker 2: aren't even that good. Yes, exactly.
- 31:59Speaker 3: You get those guys to take a little bit, you
- 32:01Speaker 3: get those guys to take less money for the cap
- 32:04Speaker 3: and then you figure out Because.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Your max guys get a max slot and they get
- 32:08Speaker 4: a max slot.
- 32:09Speaker 3: This is, yes, this is exactly what we're saying, right?
- 32:12Speaker 3: You tell that guy, come here for a little bit extra,
- 32:13Speaker 3: a little bit, don't worry, we got you, right? Because
- 32:16Speaker 3: somebody else is offering them more. Nobody else is offering
- 32:20Speaker 3: more for a guy that badly wanted to play in
- 32:22Speaker 3: Southern California.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Like that's my only thing, right?
- 32:26Speaker 3: When it really comes down to the end, I think
- 32:28Speaker 3: it was a very interesting story when it came out
- 32:31Speaker 3: and Pablo's presentation of it caught a lot of attention.
- 32:34Speaker 3: but I do think as more time passed that more
- 32:37Speaker 3: people were kind of like, yeah, I mean, I.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Guess, right?
- 32:43Speaker 3: Like this, I don't think this is the corruption that's
- 32:45Speaker 3: really driving anybody crazy, but I am intrigued by the
- 32:51Speaker 3: fact that the accused parties are so unequivocal in saying
- 32:56Speaker 3: we have nothing to hide.
- 32:58Speaker 2: There's no, they're there.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Um, But I don't know what Adam can or can't
- 33:03Speaker 3: tell the law firm that's in it. But there's no
- 33:06Speaker 3: reason for this to continue. And especially if it's like
- 33:08Speaker 3: holding up this trade. I think it was Shams that
- 33:10Speaker 3: reported that when the Clippers were playing in the summer
- 33:14Speaker 3: league games, the guys they got in the trade were sitting.
- 33:17Speaker 2: On the Clippers bench. Right.
- 33:18Speaker 4: And they still are.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Nobody thinks this trade is getting held up.
- 33:21Speaker 4: I mean, Kawhi was in Toronto for.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yeah, they did for the Kyle Lowry thing.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:26Speaker 2: But that was before the word had gotten out. Right.
- 33:28Speaker 2: That the trade was on hold.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 33:31Speaker 3: But the long and the short is nobody thinks this
- 33:33Speaker 3: trade is going to get held up. which is an
- 33:35Speaker 3: indicator to me that nobody thinks anything.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Big is going to happen as a result of this.
- 33:42Speaker 2: We're going to see, right?
- 33:44Speaker 3: But the NBA, it's time to call it.
- 33:48Speaker 2: It's time to street lights on time to come home.
- 33:51Speaker 4: All right. You talked about this a couple of times,
- 33:53Speaker 4: but the McGregor fight was in Vegas the week and
- 33:55Speaker 4: you were there and it didn't last very long. Conor
- 33:57Speaker 4: McGregor made it about one minute until having to leave
- 34:00Speaker 4: with an apparent knee injury. His first fight in over
- 34:04Speaker 4: five years. Doesn't make it over two minutes against Max Holloway. Bo,
- 34:10Speaker 4: is this the last we see of Conor McGregor?
- 34:12Speaker 2: I mean, one would hope.
- 34:14Speaker 3: But if he comes back and say he gonna fight,
- 34:17Speaker 3: you think people will watch? Because I think they would.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Question number two, what his money looking like? Like, I
- 34:25Speaker 3: don't know how this goes for the MMA guys versus the.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Boxers, but when you need a little money.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Come on, ding, and throw hands one more time. By
- 34:33Speaker 3: the way, I don't... Ryan, you ever been in Vegas
- 34:35Speaker 3: for a fight weekend?
- 34:36Speaker 4: I have not.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Okay, so I have been in Vegas for a couple
- 34:40Speaker 3: of fight weekends, but never for the fight.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I was just there. And so you just get the vibes.
- 34:45Speaker 3: On the floor in all the casinos of what happened
- 34:48Speaker 3: because you're not even really paying attention. And the fight
- 34:51Speaker 3: goes on early in the evening West Coast time because
- 34:54Speaker 3: of East Coast television. So it'll be like 9 o'clock,
- 34:57Speaker 3: 10 o'clock, whatever.
- 34:58Speaker 4: And they all get out of there.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you get out of concert and they all get
- 35:00Speaker 3: out of there. So like, for example, I was there
- 35:03Speaker 3: once when Canelo lost a fight. and buddy it was
- 35:05Speaker 3: some unpleasant mexicans walking around there some sad some mad
- 35:09Speaker 3: i didn't want to i didn't want to get in
- 35:11Speaker 3: the way of any of them but i'm just walking
- 35:13Speaker 3: around and the mcgregorites i just they just look i
- 35:17Speaker 3: don't know not plus like it was very difficult to
- 35:20Speaker 3: get what the energy was only to find out that
- 35:22Speaker 3: they do they kicked his knee off that's an old
- 35:25Speaker 3: man injury if it has ever ever been an old
- 35:28Speaker 3: man injury but i bet he still got his check.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Um Speaking of MMA and boxers, I think we're going
- 35:33Speaker 4: to see him box again against someone else who might
- 35:36Speaker 4: need some money pretty soon.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I mean, here's my question. Why is it not against
- 35:40Speaker 2: Jake Paul?
- 35:42Speaker 3: I don't know if Jake Paul fights white people, but
- 35:45Speaker 3: that seems to be the most obvious fight.
- 35:47Speaker 4: The one time he fought a white person, he lost.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Oh, that's right. That's right. Tyson Fury's brother.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 35:53Speaker 2: But I mean, I think this makes sense, right? Like
- 35:55Speaker 2: they're both amateur boxers.
- 35:58Speaker 4: McGregor will be a, will be a, I mean, if Tyson,
- 36:01Speaker 4: obviously Conor McGregor was never Mike Tyson, but Mike Tyson
- 36:04Speaker 4: is still a draw at over six.
- 36:07Speaker 2: I completely forgot that happened.
- 36:10Speaker 4: It happened multiple times.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I completely forgot that Jake Paul fought Mai Tais. Wow.
- 36:17Speaker 2: What is this world?
- 36:20Speaker 4: Where are we?
- 36:20Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 36:22Speaker 4: All right, Bo. A couple of voicemails. We had a
- 36:31Speaker 4: lot of people with Jalen Brown thoughts. Let's start there.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Here's the thing about Jalen Brown. I mean, we have
- 36:40Speaker 1: to quiet the nonsense around this tree.
- 36:43Speaker 6: When you're Scottie Pippen, but you think you're MJ, you
- 36:48Speaker 6: got to go.
- 36:49Speaker 2: And that's that.
- 36:55Speaker 3: I have to say, when you put it in those terms,
- 36:57Speaker 3: I was going to throw something out there about Jalen
- 37:01Speaker 3: Brown from when I was there. I saw some of
- 37:03Speaker 3: these quotes from these interviews that Jalen Brown has been doing,
- 37:05Speaker 3: and I don't want to do that right now.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I don't.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I will just say this very briefly. He is sounding
- 37:18Speaker 2: very familiar to me in a lot of these interviews.
- 37:22Speaker 2: And he sounds very familiar because I have taught college
- 37:25Speaker 2: freshmen before. And I don't mean that as an insult,
- 37:29Speaker 2: but like there's that energy, there's that kind of curiosity.
- 37:32Speaker 2: He's got these opinions, but they clearly haven't been tested yet.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Right like he has more books than people who went
- 37:37Speaker 4: to his high school but not more books than people
- 37:39Speaker 4: he's around.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Now oh yeah yeah you know i was thinking about
- 37:41Speaker 3: the book reading part right is that these he has
- 37:44Speaker 3: a lot of thoughts that have not been approached with
- 37:47Speaker 3: rigor so like his whole thing about um the agent
- 37:50Speaker 3: model is broken because guys go broke i was like
- 37:53Speaker 3: that's not how that works like that's not those guys
- 37:56Speaker 3: job you don't okay so now you don't have an
- 37:59Speaker 3: agent is that going to stop you from going broke
- 38:01Speaker 3: right like that doesn't like Again, these are things that
- 38:04Speaker 3: make sense on their face, and then they just don't
- 38:07Speaker 3: hold up to but so many questions. And that's what
- 38:11Speaker 3: I've been seeing in him is like, oh, okay, I
- 38:13Speaker 3: get it. It's not like there's nothing there, but that's
- 38:17Speaker 3: how it is when you teach college freshmen, right? You
- 38:19Speaker 3: come in and you got all these ideas, and then
- 38:21Speaker 3: the professor sons you, and then you get better and
- 38:24Speaker 3: it builds you back.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Up, right?
- 38:26Speaker 3: And I just don't think he's been in that circumstance,
- 38:28Speaker 3: but that's the discussion. The thing I wanted to bring
- 38:31Speaker 3: up about him that I did think was interesting and
- 38:33Speaker 3: important to point out is that and for me on
- 38:35Speaker 3: my end, because I think some people misunderstand me. I
- 38:38Speaker 3: think his heart is in the right place on all
- 38:40Speaker 3: of these things. I think what he wants and I
- 38:42Speaker 3: think I think he has identified the way I see things.
- 38:45Speaker 2: He is properly identified for the most part. Who are
- 38:48Speaker 2: the good guys and who are the bad guys, right?
- 38:50Speaker 3: I think he has identified the causes that matter the most.
- 38:54Speaker 3: I don't think he's always as equipped in conversation, but
- 38:57Speaker 3: I do think it's important to note that I would
- 39:00Speaker 3: say that he and I are on the same side,
- 39:02Speaker 3: and I don't want to be but so mean towards
- 39:04Speaker 3: somebody that's on a different side. And so I was
- 39:07Speaker 3: talking to somebody who's around the Celtics, a couple of Celtics,
- 39:12Speaker 3: and he made a very good point that I hadn't
- 39:15Speaker 3: thought about.
- 39:15Speaker 2: And he was like, let me tell you this.
- 39:16Speaker 3: He's like black Boston is going to really miss Jalen Brown,
- 39:20Speaker 3: like that he went out of his way to develop
- 39:23Speaker 3: a relationship with the black population of Boston in a
- 39:29Speaker 3: way that. I don't want to say is unprecedented because
- 39:32Speaker 3: that's too far, but it's not a guarantee.
- 39:34Speaker 2: From members of the Celtics, right? And so he's their guy.
- 39:37Speaker 3: So when it comes around next year and he's going
- 39:40Speaker 3: to Boston Garden and he's getting booed and people are
- 39:43Speaker 3: talking about, oh, but you know how Boston feels, da-da-da, that's.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Some of Boston, right?
- 39:47Speaker 3: Like, I got into an argument on the internet many
- 39:49Speaker 3: years ago with a guy, and if you know anything,
- 39:51Speaker 3: you'll know who I'm talking about, but don't be messy.
- 39:55Speaker 3: And I felt like we had a great misunderstanding. It
- 39:58Speaker 3: just got to be like, oh, man, this is one
- 39:59Speaker 3: of these cats that really rides for Boston and really
- 40:01Speaker 3: loves Boston, right?
- 40:02Speaker 2: And I get it.
- 40:03Speaker 3: And I realized what the issue was. And it's, he's
- 40:05Speaker 3: a black dude from Boston and they feel very erased.
- 40:09Speaker 3: They're like, when people talk about Boston and who lives there,
- 40:12Speaker 3: you know, who, I mean, I don't have to tell
- 40:13Speaker 3: you the image that you get in your head. There
- 40:15Speaker 3: are a lot of black people in Boston. It's one
- 40:18Speaker 3: of those cities though, where you don't meet black Bostonians
- 40:21Speaker 3: outside of Boston.
- 40:23Speaker 2: There's a lot of cities like that Cleveland. Like how
- 40:25Speaker 2: often do you meet people from Cleveland outside of Cleveland?
- 40:27Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:29Speaker 2: You know what it means?
- 40:29Speaker 3: And so, That dude, I think that his anger was misdirected,
- 40:36Speaker 3: but I understood the source of his anger was the
- 40:38Speaker 3: idea that we are here and you just keep acting
- 40:40Speaker 3: like everybody in Boston sounds like that. Even though y'all
- 40:45Speaker 3: talk like them too. But still, I got where he
- 40:48Speaker 3: was coming from on that. But anyway, this would be
- 40:50Speaker 3: an example of why somebody like that would wind up
- 40:53Speaker 3: being frustrated because there is a whole section of Boston
- 40:56Speaker 3: that I guarantee is going to be very sad to
- 40:59Speaker 3: see Jalen Brown go. but they're not going to be
- 41:01Speaker 3: the ones booing his black ass to smithereens when the
- 41:04Speaker 3: Sixers come back to the garden.
- 41:06Speaker 1: All right.
- 41:06Speaker 4: We had some more Jalen Brown thoughts.
- 41:10Speaker 5: What's up, Bobani?
- 41:11Speaker 4: What's up, Brian? This is Jordan and Charlotte.
- 41:13Speaker 6: I just listened to the pod with Burnham and Maxwell,
- 41:16Speaker 6: and I got to say, I really enjoyed it. You
- 41:18Speaker 6: definitely got to bring him back on as a guest,
- 41:21Speaker 6: but I do have to say Jalen Brown and his
- 41:24Speaker 6: top five ridiculous, what I call Vern ridiculous to his face.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 41:30Speaker 2: But, That's ridiculous.
- 41:32Speaker 6: Anyway, that's not why I called. I counted 57 fucks, motherfuckers,
- 41:38Speaker 6: motherfuckers from Vern, and I just wanted to ask, after
- 41:41Speaker 6: a call like that, after a recording like that, do
- 41:44Speaker 6: you got to call mom and warn her before she listens? Anyway,
- 41:47Speaker 6: I appreciate what you do. I've been a long-time listener
- 41:50Speaker 6: and look forward to your continued success. Appreciate it.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Number one, that number is lower than I expected.
- 41:58Speaker 4: You have to remember that's more than one a minute.
- 42:01Speaker 3: And yet and still, it is lower than I expected.
- 42:06Speaker 3: I actually probably should have warned her. I forgot to.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I talked to her when I was in Vegas, so
- 42:10Speaker 2: we were talking about some other stuff. I did not
- 42:12Speaker 2: warn her.
- 42:12Speaker 3: First of all, Vernon sent an apology on Twitter. And
- 42:17Speaker 3: my mother sent me a text that said, Vernon Maxwell
- 42:20Speaker 3: needs to expand his vocabulary.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I showed her Vernon's apology, and she said, I accept.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I love how immediately everyone was like, oh, man, Bo's
- 42:29Speaker 2: mom's not going to like this.
- 42:31Speaker 3: She has absolutely become like the silent partner of this operation.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Everybody knows she's there. Everybody understands.
- 42:38Speaker 4: As she should be. All right. Here's another one. Hey, Bomani.
- 42:42Speaker 1: This is Edmund in Phoenix listening to the Danny Parkins
- 42:46Speaker 1: podcast and him reading from his suburban newspaper. I thought
- 42:50Speaker 1: of like, you know, some stories. What was the dumbest
- 42:53Speaker 1: thing ever? you've got the cops called on you for.
- 42:56Speaker 1: So this is what happened to me and my brother.
- 42:59Speaker 1: My grandmother lived in a retirement community called Saddle Bronc
- 43:03Speaker 1: in Tucson, Arizona. It was the worst, most boring place
- 43:08Speaker 1: in the world, but that's a separate story. Anyway, my
- 43:11Speaker 1: brother and I get hired to do some yard work
- 43:14Speaker 1: for one of her neighbors, you know, make a couple
- 43:16Speaker 1: bucks when we're in high school. Anyway, we're in her
- 43:19Speaker 1: front yard and we're trimming down grapefruit and and collecting
- 43:23Speaker 1: the grapefruit so that we could either, you know, donate
- 43:25Speaker 1: it or get rid of it or something. We finished
- 43:27Speaker 1: the job. My brother and I are walking back to
- 43:31Speaker 1: my grandmother's house from her neighbor's house, and this woman cop,
- 43:37Speaker 1: you know, for this retirement community, rolls up on us
- 43:39Speaker 1: in a golf cart, and, like, she's in the movie Heat.
- 43:43Speaker 1: She thinks that we are pretty much, you know, like,
- 43:46Speaker 1: we need to get on the ground, you know, put
- 43:48Speaker 1: our hands behind our back, And she rolls up on
- 43:50Speaker 1: us and she says, we got a report from a
- 43:52Speaker 1: neighbor that there were two high schoolers stealing grapefruit from
- 43:57Speaker 1: another person's yard. Anyway, we told them what happened. We
- 44:00Speaker 1: had to walk the security guard back to the neighbor
- 44:05Speaker 1: and knock on the door, tell them that we.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Were working for them.
- 44:08Speaker 1: And, like, you know, she had to, like, check it out.
- 44:10Speaker 1: But anyway, we got the retirement community cops called on
- 44:15Speaker 1: us for trimming grapefruit in someone's yard. Anyway, love the show,
- 44:20Speaker 1: love Danny Parkins reading out his newsletter or his newspaper.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Hey, and Ryan, that's what they did to Edmund.
- 44:33Speaker 4: Yes. Do you think the cops from Danny's neighborhood retire
- 44:38Speaker 4: and go become retirement cops in this place in Scottsdale?
- 44:41Speaker 3: That's a very good question, but I'd say it is,
- 44:43Speaker 3: but that was a reminder of, and it's very important, man,
- 44:46Speaker 3: old people ain't got no time to be thinking about this.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Old people ain't giving you no chance.
- 44:54Speaker 2: None. I'll just call the cops. I paid a lot
- 44:58Speaker 2: of taxes for those.
- 44:59Speaker 4: All right, here's our last one.
- 45:01Speaker 5: What's up, Bo? What's up, man?
- 45:03Speaker 1: Love the show.
- 45:04Speaker 5: Long time listener, first time caller. I wanted to call
- 45:07Speaker 5: about the favorite topic of the voicemail line. So back
- 45:10Speaker 5: in 2014, I changed jobs and I started doing some
- 45:13Speaker 5: district operations work. Originally, I was supposed to be supporting
- 45:17Speaker 5: one district manager in one district a couple days before
- 45:20Speaker 5: I started. My direct manager calls me. He's like, hey,
- 45:22Speaker 5: you're actually going to be supporting two districts and two
- 45:25Speaker 5: district managers. And so I asked him, did my predecessor leave?
- 45:28Speaker 1: And he says, no.
- 45:29Speaker 5: And then he says her name and just says she's
- 45:31Speaker 5: going to be moving to a different district, but she's
- 45:34Speaker 5: still going to train. So I'm like, OK, cool. First day,
- 45:38Speaker 5: I'm supposed to go meet with the second district manager
- 45:40Speaker 5: because I hadn't met her yet. It's in a black
- 45:42Speaker 5: part of Birmingham. Everyone in the office that I see
- 45:46Speaker 5: is a black person. And so based on the name
- 45:49Speaker 5: I got, this is living up to my expectations. And
- 45:52Speaker 5: so after we're finishing doing the paperwork, me and the
- 45:56Speaker 5: district manager are kind of just doing a small little
- 45:58Speaker 5: get-to-know-you chat, and she apologizes for springing it on me
- 46:01Speaker 5: last minute and says that after she heard about my interview,
- 46:06Speaker 5: she felt that I would be a better fit for
- 46:07Speaker 5: her team personality-wise. Now, that probably should have been a
- 46:11Speaker 5: clue as to what I was about to walk into,
- 46:13Speaker 5: but I didn't think anything of it. So we go
- 46:15Speaker 5: around the corner. to where my office is going to
- 46:17Speaker 5: be that I'm going to be splitting with my predecessor
- 46:19Speaker 5: for the time being. And when I walk in, I
- 46:21Speaker 5: see this older white lady in her late 40s. And
- 46:25Speaker 5: she looks like she could have stepped right out of
- 46:27Speaker 5: that old soap opera Dallas. And she stands up and
- 46:31Speaker 5: extends her hand and says, hi, I'm Jaquetta in the
- 46:34Speaker 5: thickest Alabama accent I've ever heard. And it took everything
- 46:40Speaker 5: in me not to look over at the district manager
- 46:41Speaker 5: and be like, are you serious? But after five minutes
- 46:45Speaker 5: with her, I understood why I was a better personality fit.
- 46:48Speaker 5: If you know, you know. But as a bonus, I've
- 46:51Speaker 5: known two white Andres in my life. The first I
- 46:53Speaker 5: used to work with, he was late 40s. This is
- 46:56Speaker 5: like 2011. He went by Andy, one of my current
- 46:59Speaker 5: friends who's in his 30s. He goes by Andre. He's
- 47:02Speaker 5: a white Andre. And I told him that I was
- 47:05Speaker 5: going to make this call. And if you guys picked it,
- 47:07Speaker 5: I was going to play it for him. So if
- 47:09Speaker 5: y'all do, he's probably going to laugh. Love the show.
- 47:14Speaker 2: He tried to go with Andy, huh?
- 47:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:17Speaker 2: He tried to go with Andy.
- 47:19Speaker 3: So the thing about white Andre also is white Andre
- 47:22Speaker 3: can be French, right?
- 47:24Speaker 4: I have a cousin who's white Andre, and that's where
- 47:27Speaker 4: I'm from.
- 47:28Speaker 2: That's right.
- 47:29Speaker 3: He's not a direct homie, but shout out to homie
- 47:32Speaker 3: Cedric at the hat shop in New Orleans.
- 47:34Speaker 2: He is Cedric.
- 47:35Speaker 3: And honestly, I didn't realize it's Meyers Hat Shop down
- 47:38Speaker 3: there in the French Quarter.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Or not in the French Quarter. It's right on St.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Charles.
- 47:42Speaker 3: But I didn't realize that Cedric was like a member
- 47:47Speaker 3: of the family. I thought he just worked there because
- 47:49Speaker 3: his name was Cedric.
