- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person. I guess Michelle or something. I'm
- 0:05Speaker 1: back and I just had an MRI. Yay small spaces Now,
- 0:09Speaker 1: I actually do like small spaces. I don't like, however,
- 0:13Speaker 1: not being able to move it all because then my
- 0:16Speaker 1: body says, you need to move. I'm gonna move regardless
- 0:20Speaker 1: of if you let me or not. Luckily I didn't move,
- 0:23Speaker 1: but I did panic about it, so that's good. But yeah,
- 0:28Speaker 1: that's what's going on with me. Actually, something else is
- 0:32Speaker 1: going on with me too, and it directly relates into this.
- 0:35Speaker 1: So I wanted to just talk about it for a second.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And that is I got some like really bad news
- 0:42Speaker 1: about like a family member, and I'm not gonna go
- 0:44Speaker 1: into it because it's not something I'm gonna go into. Yeah,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but they told me some stuff and then I reacted,
- 0:53Speaker 1: And then when I got off the phone with them,
- 0:55Speaker 1: I went, wow, I didn't react good enough, Like I
- 0:58Speaker 1: feel like I underreacted. And I thought directly of this
- 1:03Speaker 1: and me saying that the way that you have emotions
- 1:06Speaker 1: is fine and you know stuff, so like, I'm just
- 1:12Speaker 1: not good at taking my own advice basically, but it
- 1:16Speaker 1: almost made me feel better that I told you that.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So then I could feel like that too, like maybe
- 1:23Speaker 1: my emotions and shit are valid. But anyway, yeah, yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I tend to not react to things, big things. I
- 1:32Speaker 1: have like a delayed response most of the time. And
- 1:35Speaker 1: I don't know why that is. Is it part of
- 1:38Speaker 1: me like fawning? Like is it my brain goes it
- 1:41Speaker 1: would be better if you waited to have feelings about this.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I don't know, or am I fucked up? No, I'm not,
- 1:46Speaker 1: because I already said that that's not the case, and
- 1:49Speaker 1: you're okay however you're relating to things. But hey, yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: let's stop talking about this now because now I feel
- 1:55Speaker 1: real weird. So we are going to talk about given
- 1:58Speaker 1: episode four. But before we do that, I wanted to
- 2:01Speaker 1: just shout out a staff person I know. In the
- 2:04Speaker 1: last episode, I said that a lot of that episode
- 2:08Speaker 1: was anime original, and I still think it is. Yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: but even more of this episode is anime original, Like
- 2:16Speaker 1: the whole second half and I'll tell you when we
- 2:18Speaker 1: get there is all anime original. So at this point
- 2:21Speaker 1: it's like almost its own story, so I think it's
- 2:26Speaker 1: being done pretty good. So I just wanted to point
- 2:29Speaker 1: out that the series compositor was Unico Ayana, So she
- 2:35Speaker 1: did series composition for Bachman Flip Flappers and a bunch
- 2:40Speaker 1: of other things, and also some script writing for certain
- 2:44Speaker 1: episodes of Pothecary Diaries. So she she knows her shit,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and I think it's pretty obvious because of how well
- 2:52Speaker 1: all of the new content flows with the old content.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And I don't know how much of these were her
- 2:58Speaker 1: ideas versus the director's ideas. It was probably a combination.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But I think they did a really good job integrating
- 3:06Speaker 1: material to kind of flesh out this story that is
- 3:09Speaker 1: not that fleshed out actually, So yeah, I have mixed
- 3:14Speaker 1: feelings about this, not because I think they did a
- 3:16Speaker 1: bad job, just because this is a lot of stuff
- 3:19Speaker 1: that wasn't in the manga that makes me feel like
- 3:22Speaker 1: the manga doesn't feel very complete. But anyway, yes, let
- 3:27Speaker 1: us move on and just do this. So episode four
- 3:31Speaker 1: is called Fluorescent Adolescent, and that is the title of
- 3:34Speaker 1: an Arctic Monkeys song. It's from their second album, Favorite
- 3:39Speaker 1: Worst Nightmare, which was released in two thousand and seven.
- 3:44Speaker 1: This is one of those songs that like, I don't know,
- 3:46Speaker 1: despite like that I know Arctic Monkeys, like they're not
- 3:49Speaker 1: my favorite, so I don't listen to their like album
- 3:52Speaker 1: tracks or anything. And we do know that Arctic Monkeys
- 3:56Speaker 1: are kind of part of this universe. Well you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yamba was listening to the Artistic Monkeys I think in
- 4:02Speaker 1: episode one or something. So yeah, But this song and
- 4:06Speaker 1: this titled I don't think work for this episode, like
- 4:09Speaker 1: get all actually, first of all, Fluorescent Adolescent. I don't
- 4:14Speaker 1: really know what that has to do with anything or
- 4:16Speaker 1: what it would really mean, you know, in the context
- 4:18Speaker 1: of the episode. But the song itself is about I guess,
- 4:23Speaker 1: getting older and realizing that things aren't as good as
- 4:28Speaker 1: they used to be, but specifically being a woman getting
- 4:32Speaker 1: older and realizing that sex isn't as good as it
- 4:35Speaker 1: used to be. So I don't know how this relates
- 4:37Speaker 1: this episode at all, Like at all. I wonder if
- 4:42Speaker 1: whoever named the episode was just like, I really would
- 4:44Speaker 1: like this song to play during it. I think it
- 4:46Speaker 1: would be super fucking cool, and that's why they named it.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I really, like, really really don't know. And maybe you
- 4:52Speaker 1: do and you're listening to me and you're like, but Michelle,
- 4:56Speaker 1: this and this and this happened in the episode. It's
- 4:58Speaker 1: exactly the same as an older woman realizing she's just
- 5:01Speaker 1: going through the motions of sex. Yeah, I don't know.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I don't know. Guys, there's no sex in this episode. Anyway,
- 5:09Speaker 1: let's do it because man, I'm stressed out. So if
- 5:14Speaker 1: you remember from the end of the last episode, Mafuyu
- 5:17Speaker 1: has just told Ouyno Yama that he wants to be
- 5:20Speaker 1: in the band. Ouinoyama like goes right home and he
- 5:24Speaker 1: like gets to work on the guitar, but we don't
- 5:26Speaker 1: know on what, but he does. Yeah, so we don't
- 5:29Speaker 1: start there. We start with an exterior staircase of an
- 5:33Speaker 1: apartment building and it's nighttime. Oh yeah, we actually start
- 5:37Speaker 1: exactly there. Sorry. We see like a sign outside of
- 5:39Speaker 1: an apartment that says two three Ouayno Yama because that's
- 5:43Speaker 1: his family name, and we hear Yayoi say Red Scott.
- 5:48Speaker 1: We're hearing kind of like guitar in the background, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 1: like a little bit of it. And we see a
- 5:52Speaker 1: clock it's seven twenty four. And then we see an
- 5:55Speaker 1: amp that is plugged in and on, and we see
- 6:00Speaker 1: Ouyinoyama's head. He's wearing headphones, and we're kind of hearing
- 6:05Speaker 1: a little bit of guitar in the background. It's not
- 6:07Speaker 1: super loud. It's actually like really muted proudly because he's
- 6:11Speaker 1: using his headphones, and we hear Yayoi say ritska, hey, dumbass.
- 6:16Speaker 1: She sounds like she's far off. He is just strumming
- 6:20Speaker 1: away and shit, and they kind of flashed his hand
- 6:24Speaker 1: and I swear it looks like he's not holding a pick.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on there, especially because then
- 6:29Speaker 1: he puts his pick that he wasn't holding in his mouth,
- 6:32Speaker 1: which is I mean, something you would do. And he
- 6:35Speaker 1: starts to write something in like one of the notebooks
- 6:37Speaker 1: in front of him on the floor. Again, we hear
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yayoi and she says, hey, are you listening. He sets
- 6:44Speaker 1: down a pen and he starts to play again, and
- 6:47Speaker 1: at this point Yayoi opens the door. She's just wearing
- 6:50Speaker 1: like a pink bra and pants, and she's like rid
- 6:53Speaker 1: Scott dinner. But then she makes like us a prize noise,
- 6:57Speaker 1: and Uinoyama's like, oh, we see that. He has, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 1: everything like notebooks played out and crumpled up paper all
- 7:03Speaker 1: over the floor and he takes off his headphones and
- 7:06Speaker 1: he's like what yeah, you always like don't what me?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Oh?
- 7:10Speaker 1: We know, Yama says food. Yeah, you always like what
- 7:13Speaker 1: the hell is all this?
- 7:15Speaker 2: Oh? I know?
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yama says, what the hell are you wearing? I'm gonna
- 7:19Speaker 1: tell Kaji Son. Yeah, you always like what do you want?
- 7:23Speaker 1: Food or not? Ua Yama says, I'll be right there.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yayoi exhales, and she looks real fucking pissed because, yeah,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I would be two. She's been calling him and calling him,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and then he makes a comment on her clothing, which
- 7:35Speaker 1: is just a bra, which is a little weird, but hey,
- 7:37Speaker 1: they're in their house. She starts to close the door,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and then she stops and looks back at him, and
- 7:43Speaker 1: he's like writing something in notebook, and he starts to
- 7:45Speaker 1: play again, and she seems surprised, and then we go
- 7:49Speaker 1: the opening theme. Yay. We see that college campus that
- 7:54Speaker 1: were our last time, I think, and there's like people
- 7:56Speaker 1: walking near that big wooden deck place that I just
- 8:00Speaker 1: in the last episode poorly. Oh my god, is that
- 8:02Speaker 1: a tile drop? Almost anyway on that wooden deck, people
- 8:07Speaker 1: are hanging out on those benches that wrap around the trees.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Then we see somebody running on a track, and then
- 8:12Speaker 1: we see feet in high heel sandals walking and it's Yayoi,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and we hear someone say, hey, look, there are these
- 8:21Speaker 1: two guys on a balcony or probably a roof of
- 8:24Speaker 1: a building, but I'm not sure because we don't really
- 8:26Speaker 1: have a good enough shot for me to tell. And
- 8:29Speaker 1: they are looking down at her because obviously she's not
- 8:31Speaker 1: on the roof, and Hodokey is there too, and he's
- 8:34Speaker 1: kind of off behind them, smoking, and the second guy says, hmmm, oh,
- 8:39Speaker 1: the amateur model.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Check.
- 8:40Speaker 1: The first guy's like, yeah, she's our college's pageant queen.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Okay Hodoki looks over, and then we cut to Yeyoi,
- 8:49Speaker 1: who is walking super fucking confidently, hair blowing in the breeze.
- 8:53Speaker 1: She looks fucking awesome, and the second guy says, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: bet she's hard to approach. The first guy's like, I'd
- 9:00Speaker 1: say she's more the pretty type than the que type.
- 9:03Speaker 1: The second guy says, yeah, I get that. Yoyoi stops
- 9:06Speaker 1: walking suddenly and then smiles very excitedly and then starts
- 9:10Speaker 1: to like fix her hair real quick. The first guy says, oh,
- 9:13Speaker 1: what's this. The second guy's like, she's messing with her
- 9:16Speaker 1: hair now, yeah, we saw it. Yeyoi then just runs
- 9:20Speaker 1: and she says, Akihiko, Yeah, that's what I thought. How
- 9:24Speaker 1: do he kind of gasps and looks a little sick
- 9:27Speaker 1: as he watches her run over to you know where
- 9:29Speaker 1: Kaji is just talking to some guy. The second guy's like, huh,
- 9:33Speaker 1: so she can be cute. Now that Yeyoi has got
- 9:38Speaker 1: over to Kaji, they start to walk away from the
- 9:41Speaker 1: other guy, and how do Ki looks exasperated? The first
- 9:45Speaker 1: guy says, well, look at her. The second guy's like,
- 9:49Speaker 1: can't judge a book byites cover? Huh?
- 9:51Speaker 2: How do?
- 9:52Speaker 1: He kind of starts to get like faint, looking like
- 9:54Speaker 1: he's wobbly, and he looks really comically distressed, and the
- 9:58Speaker 1: first guy notices and he's like, huh are you listening?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Second guy says, what's up, dude? Your face? We now
- 10:04Speaker 1: see a street or sidewalk lamp pole, and Yayoi and
- 10:10Speaker 1: Kaji are at his motorcycle by the bike racks. Yayoi's like, hey, Akihiko,
- 10:15Speaker 1: are you guys planning on playing another gig or something?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Kaji's like hmm why. Yeyui says, Mitsuka's working really hard
- 10:23Speaker 1: on something. Kaji says he is, Yeahoa's like yeah, she
- 10:27Speaker 1: thinks about him sitting on the floor and working, which
- 10:30Speaker 1: we just saw like a minute ago, and continues he
- 10:33Speaker 1: wouldn't even eat. He just keeps messing with his guitar.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I don't know what he's up to, but he's locked
- 10:38Speaker 1: seriously into it. Kaji looks off to the side and
- 10:42Speaker 1: he's like, huh. Yayoi says, it's like he went back
- 10:46Speaker 1: to how he used to be. Oh Kaji's silence. YUOI says,
- 10:51Speaker 1: my point is, if you're actually playing a show, send
- 10:54Speaker 1: me an invite. Kaji says sure. We see the two
- 10:58Speaker 1: ten classroom sign is slumped over on his desk like
- 11:01Speaker 1: his head is down on it, and we hear a
- 11:03Speaker 1: voice say oueyo Yama. There are two dudes wearing like
- 11:07Speaker 1: jim clothes standing in the doorway of the classroom. One
- 11:10Speaker 1: of them is Iachi his friend, and one of them
- 11:12Speaker 1: is some guy with blonde hair. I don't know who
- 11:14Speaker 1: he is. That other guy says he's dead. Itachi says,
- 11:18Speaker 1: Wuo Yama, your favorite part of the day is here lunchtime.
- 11:23Speaker 1: That girl that we don't have a name for yet
- 11:25Speaker 1: walks over and is like, I'll wake him up. She
- 11:28Speaker 1: starts to walk towards Ueino Yama and she's like, oo,
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yama kuhn, it's lunchtime. She starts like poking him, just
- 11:35Speaker 1: like very lightly, like in the head or the back
- 11:37Speaker 1: of the neck or something, and we hear Itachi say,
- 11:39Speaker 1: I think it's Iachi. I wonder if Casasan likes Ueno
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yama after all. The other guy's like huh, Itachi says what,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and we realize that mafo you has just walked up
- 11:49Speaker 1: and he's like, uh is uino Yama kun here. Atachi
- 11:53Speaker 1: points and is like, I think Casai san's trying to
- 11:55Speaker 1: snatch him up. As we speak, okay, the girl, whose
- 11:58Speaker 1: name is obviously kas is still poking him, and it's like, hey,
- 12:03Speaker 1: Mafuu stares at the scene for a second, and then
- 12:05Speaker 1: he's like, we know Yama kun. We know. Ayama stirs
- 12:09Speaker 1: and then abruptly stands, kind of startling Kasai, who is
- 12:13Speaker 1: right next to him, and Atachi's like, oh, he's awake,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and they start to walk away. Guess that means he's
- 12:19Speaker 1: gonna play guitar today. Guy Too's like, let's ask someone
- 12:23Speaker 1: from class nine to play with us. We know. Yama
- 12:26Speaker 1: now walks over and pats Mafuu's head, and then they
- 12:30Speaker 1: both turn to leave the classroom, and we hear a
- 12:33Speaker 1: voice in the hall, one of those guys or a
- 12:36Speaker 1: different guy say, we know Yama, you're playing guitar today,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and here we know Yama say yep, and the guy's
- 12:42Speaker 1: like tomorrow and we know Yama's like, I'll play basketball.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Kasai is still standing in the classroom looking at the door,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and this girl with like short black hair walks over
- 12:53Speaker 1: and is like, looks like Sato kun stole ouey know
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yama kun from you. She looks over Kasai and kasai
- 13:00Speaker 1: eyes are wide and she is smiling somehow, but her
- 13:05Speaker 1: fist is cleansed and shaking. She is not happy. She pissed,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and the black haired girl's like, casis on your face.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Now we see the stairwell windows. We see those a lot,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and we hear Uinoyama say, Mafu, you you got some
- 13:21Speaker 1: time this weekend. We hear a guitar being tuned, but
- 13:24Speaker 1: we're just getting still shots of the stairwell. Okay. Mafuu
- 13:29Speaker 1: is like, I have to work in the evenings. Ouyama says, oh,
- 13:34Speaker 1: wanna go look at some effect pedals soon, Mafou looks up,
- 13:38Speaker 1: maybe from tuning, but we can't see his guitar, so
- 13:41Speaker 1: it's hard to tell, and he says effect pedals, ou know.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yama's like, it depends what kind you get, but most
- 13:47Speaker 1: of them are little machines around this size. And he's
- 13:50Speaker 1: like holding up his hands to show about how big
- 13:52Speaker 1: an effect pedal is, which is not very big, but
- 13:55Speaker 1: maybe like the size of half of a foot, like
- 13:57Speaker 1: your foot, not not like a foot on a ruler.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And then we go to a yellow screen and his
- 14:04Speaker 1: guitar pops onto it, and he continues, basically, it adds
- 14:08Speaker 1: sound effects to your guitar. A pedal pops onto the
- 14:11Speaker 1: screen with a cable connected between it and the guitar,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and then an amp pops up with a cable connected
- 14:16Speaker 1: to the pedal, and then we see like lightning bolts
- 14:19Speaker 1: and shit coming out of the amp like it's on
- 14:22Speaker 1: and sound is coming out, and like the effect pedal
- 14:24Speaker 1: changes colors for some reason, and Uino Yama continues, you
- 14:28Speaker 1: make it sound distorted like bomb, or you make an
- 14:32Speaker 1: echo like bomb bomb. Yeah, that's what that sounds like.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Then you connect it to the amp and you can
- 14:38Speaker 1: actually hear it. It's true. We flash to a still
- 14:43Speaker 1: shot of the bottom half of a stack amp in
- 14:45Speaker 1: the studio. O. Yama says, you know what an amp
- 14:48Speaker 1: is now right offul use, like those speaker looking things
- 14:52Speaker 1: that are all over the studio. Oh we know, Yama says, yeah, those,
- 14:56Speaker 1: But the thing with effect pedals is that there are
- 14:59Speaker 1: so many different kinds. Mafou's like, yeah, we're only seeing
- 15:02Speaker 1: the tops of their heads during this part of the conversation.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Ou know, Yama continues, that also means that the price
- 15:09Speaker 1: range is pretty big. You get me. Mafou shakes his
- 15:11Speaker 1: head and is like, that sounds difficult.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Oh, you know.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yama kind of almost chuckles and says, I'm sure it does.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You got any money. Mafou shakes his head, not much,
- 15:22Speaker 1: we know. Yama's like, I figured I'll let you borrow
- 15:25Speaker 1: a mind for a while so you can try it out.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I mean. We cut to him no pupils, looking terrifying,
- 15:31Speaker 1: smiling evillly. If you're gonna join the band, I need
- 15:34Speaker 1: to whip you into shape. I won't go easy on
- 15:37Speaker 1: you anymore. He chuckles evily. Mafoo, you gasps. Now we
- 15:42Speaker 1: go to O you know Yama playing a melody conveniently,
- 15:45Speaker 1: we just have shots of the stairwell and mafu you,
- 15:48Speaker 1: so we don't have to show his hands while he's
- 15:51Speaker 1: playing guitar, not even one of them. And there's kind
- 15:55Speaker 1: of a percussive element when he's strumming this that I
- 15:59Speaker 1: thought was really weird because I can't obviously see what
- 16:01Speaker 1: he's doing, so I don't know what's happening because it's
- 16:03Speaker 1: not a normal thing that happens when you play the guitar,
- 16:06Speaker 1: so I can only assume that, like, maybe he's wearing
- 16:09Speaker 1: a watch and it's like hitting into the guitar when
- 16:11Speaker 1: he strums. Huh, let me see if I can make
- 16:15Speaker 1: that happen so you can hear what I'm talking about.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Hold on, Okay, I think I got it, so hopefully
- 16:20Speaker 1: you can hear this. It's like this. I hope that
- 16:33Speaker 1: you heard that. I was really trying to play quietly
- 16:35Speaker 1: and enunciate the sound of my watch hitting like the
- 16:38Speaker 1: bridge of my guitar. I mean, I guess he could
- 16:40Speaker 1: also be like tapping his feet or something, but it
- 16:43Speaker 1: just didn't sound like that to me because it sounded
- 16:45Speaker 1: like exactly as he was strumming. So it's either that
- 16:48Speaker 1: or I have no idea. Guys anyway, after a while,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I'm off of you, says say Owino Yama. Kuhn ou
- 16:55Speaker 1: Enayama's like, huh, he stops playing, what spit it out?
- 16:59Speaker 1: Come on? Mafo You takes a breath and then turns
- 17:02Speaker 1: to look at him and sighs, and he thinks of
- 17:05Speaker 1: Kasai San trying to wake him up, and he sighs
- 17:09Speaker 1: again and looks away. Oua Yama says, h okay, fine,
- 17:14Speaker 1: just tell me when you feel like it. Mafo You
- 17:17Speaker 1: takes a breath and is silent for a second and
- 17:19Speaker 1: then says, oo Yama kun, you've been working on something lately, right,
- 17:24Speaker 1: we know? Yama's like, huh, oh I have. I'm writing
- 17:28Speaker 1: a song for you. Actually what? Mafu You gasps me too,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and then he gets stars in his eyes and he's like,
- 17:35Speaker 1: a song, really, that's that's a big deal. We know.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yama says, the song in your head I figured I
- 17:42Speaker 1: might be able to turn it into an actual song
- 17:44Speaker 1: is one. But still, Mafu You's like, you remember it?
- 17:48Speaker 1: Wina Yama says, huh, of course, I do. I pretty
- 17:52Speaker 1: two times now he starts to sing it, which by
- 17:54Speaker 1: the way. There's no words to it. It's just like
- 17:57Speaker 1: la la la basically, and he plays along with it
- 18:01Speaker 1: as he sings, and this is just a really quick
- 18:03Speaker 1: segment and he stops and he's like, right, of course, again,
- 18:07Speaker 1: they do not show him playing guitar because he really
- 18:10Speaker 1: really do not want to, and Mafu You gasps and
- 18:14Speaker 1: stars are like sparkles start coming out of him, and know,
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yama seems a little bit freaked out about this reaction,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and Mafu You's like, that's so cool. We we know. Yama's like,
- 18:24Speaker 1: oh uh, I've just been filling in the missing parts myself.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Mafu You's like, I want to hear it, and then
- 18:32Speaker 1: the scene fades out. Now we see in exterior studio shots,
- 18:35Speaker 1: which honestly we see so fucking often that and the
- 18:40Speaker 1: classroom sign shots they really like repeating these. We see
- 18:44Speaker 1: the door to studio one from the hall and then
- 18:47Speaker 1: we hear Mafo You say, Kaji son ha doki son,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I look forward to working further with you, he vows.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Kaji's like, sure, glad to have you. Dook He's like,
- 18:56Speaker 1: I'm glad everything worked out. Mafu You seem confused. I
- 19:01Speaker 1: assume he doesn't know about how stressed Unoyama was when
- 19:05Speaker 1: he didn't want to join the band, and uino Yama
- 19:08Speaker 1: like kind of grumbles. Now we see how to be
- 19:12Speaker 1: plugging a cable into an amp and to MafA You,
- 19:16Speaker 1: he says, you're just gonna be playing guitar, right. Unoyama's like, nope,
- 19:20Speaker 1: he's gonna do guitar and vocals. He's like, what you
- 19:23Speaker 1: can sing, Mafo You. Mafou looks to Uo Yama and
- 19:27Speaker 1: uino Yama nods at him. Mafo You nods back, but
- 19:31Speaker 1: looks kind of concerned, and Mafo You takes a deep breath,
- 19:35Speaker 1: and then we just cut to the exterior, like a
- 19:38Speaker 1: still shot of the exterior, and then like a still
- 19:41Speaker 1: frame of the hallway, and we just have some background
- 19:44Speaker 1: music playing, you know, from like the soundtrack background music,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and then we cut back to the room with Mafou singing,
- 19:51Speaker 1: but we don't hear it. It's just under the background
- 19:55Speaker 1: music for some reason. And we see that it's six
- 19:58Speaker 1: thirty in case you were wondering, and he's like singing
- 20:03Speaker 1: and like we're just not hearing any of It's this's
- 20:06Speaker 1: so fucking weird. And Kaji and Hodokei look very impressed.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I think Hodoki like puts his hand over his mouth.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I am not impressed. I can't hear any of this.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I don't understand why this is here. This whole thing
- 20:18Speaker 1: takes from about eight minutes and twenty seven seconds into
- 20:21Speaker 1: about eight minutes and fifty two seconds in so like
- 20:23Speaker 1: twenty five seconds of just weird background music and him singing,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but we can't hear him. Seriously, Now we have the
- 20:33Speaker 1: same background music, still no sounds except for that, and
- 20:37Speaker 1: we see like five pedals in a case, and then
- 20:41Speaker 1: a still frame of Ouiinoyama pointing to one of them
- 20:45Speaker 1: as Mafulu and Hodikey look on at it, and then
- 20:48Speaker 1: a still frame of everybody standing with their instruments and
- 20:51Speaker 1: Ouiinoyama pointing at Mafuu and saying something. We can't hear it, obviously,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and then a still frame of Hotigie showing maful you
- 21:00Speaker 1: something on a piece of paper that we also can't see,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and then a still frame of mafuy with his guitar
- 21:06Speaker 1: and Kaji's telling him something maybe but I don't know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: and then a still frame of Uino Yama and Una
- 21:11Speaker 1: yam is telling him something, and then I still frame
- 21:15Speaker 1: this is a getting weirder of them all at a
- 21:18Speaker 1: vending machine, like standing in front of a vending machine,
- 21:21Speaker 1: and how do he is pointing to some soda in
- 21:24Speaker 1: the vending machine and telling mafuy something about it? What
- 21:27Speaker 1: is happening? And then a still frame of them getting
- 21:32Speaker 1: ready to leave because it's the end of the practice.
- 21:36Speaker 1: So that whole I guess it was a montage lasted
- 21:39Speaker 1: from eight minutes and twenty seven seconds into the episode
- 21:43Speaker 1: to nine minutes and twenty seven seconds in fifty three
- 21:46Speaker 1: seconds of just nothing.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I was so annoyed. Guys, why why was this here?
- 21:55Speaker 2: I get it like they were practicing. That was not
- 21:57Speaker 2: helpful to me at all. I didn't learn anything except
- 22:00Speaker 2: that we need to teach Mafo you about something in
- 22:03Speaker 2: the soda machine.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that this is a really good example
- 22:09Speaker 1: of how padded this anime is. It was like, what
- 22:14Speaker 1: do we put here? We have to put something anything? Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 22:21Speaker 1: moving on. I'm just really I was not happy, and
- 22:25Speaker 1: I also just think it's weird to like not have
- 22:27Speaker 1: Mafo you sing. I get it, he only knows one
- 22:29Speaker 1: song and the song just say is like la la la.
- 22:33Speaker 1: But I would almost just prefer not to have that
- 22:35Speaker 1: in there at all. You know, Kaji already heard it
- 22:37Speaker 1: because he was, you know, spying on them accidentally, and
- 22:42Speaker 1: we can just pretend that had Kei heard it, and
- 22:45Speaker 1: it's just not in there. I don't know, it's just
- 22:48Speaker 1: it was gonna stop. We see an exterior shot, a
- 22:52Speaker 1: still shot of course, of a building at night, and
- 22:56Speaker 1: someone says, I think it's Hauki because we can't see them. Okay,
- 23:00Speaker 1: then let's celebrate Mafu you joining the band. We see
- 23:04Speaker 1: guitars in cases, and then two hands holding up glasses
- 23:08Speaker 1: of some sort of beverage. One of them I think
- 23:11Speaker 1: was soda and the other one was water or something
- 23:14Speaker 1: that's clear, and we hear how do Ki say kanfai
- 23:17Speaker 1: which means cheers. We see that it is Hadoki and
- 23:20Speaker 1: Kaji that have their glasses raised, and they're at that
- 23:23Speaker 1: restaurant that we saw a couple episodes ago, and we
- 23:26Speaker 1: know Yama's like uh kanbi, Kaji says kanby and WU
- 23:32Speaker 1: know Yama raises his glass and clinks both of theirs
- 23:35Speaker 1: and Kaji and how do Ki say yay Kaji? And
- 23:39Speaker 1: Hadaki raise their glasses towards Mafuu. He gasps and they smile,
- 23:44Speaker 1: and Mafuu raises up his drink and clinks them and
- 23:48Speaker 1: they both say yay, which was really cute. Mafu You
- 23:52Speaker 1: blushes very slightly and takes a sip. How do Ki's like, but, man,
- 23:56Speaker 1: Mafu you, you always seem kind of out of it,
- 23:59Speaker 1: so I wondered if you really saying but you really
- 24:01Speaker 1: got some pipes on you? It startled me. Kaji's like,
- 24:05Speaker 1: for real, how do he continues? It's sounds like you've
- 24:08Speaker 1: actually been a vocalist before, right, Oinoyama's like nope. In fact,
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm still not sure if he understands the first thing
- 24:15Speaker 1: about bands yet. I don't even know what the first
- 24:18Speaker 1: thing about bands would be. Mafu You looks slightly annoyed,
- 24:21Speaker 1: and he says, I at least understand the first thing,
- 24:25Speaker 1: kind of. Kaji's like, kinda, what's the first thing?
- 24:30Speaker 2: How do he?
- 24:31Speaker 1: He's like, but it seems like you got hidden potential,
- 24:34Speaker 1: so with a little practice, I bet you could kill it.
- 24:36Speaker 1: What kind of music do you usually listen to? Mafou
- 24:39Speaker 1: looks down and doesn't say anything. O I know Yama
- 24:42Speaker 1: glances over at him kind of annoyed as he drinks
- 24:46Speaker 1: a maful. You finally says, what do you listen to?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Ouo Yama? Kun oh?
- 24:50Speaker 2: I know?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yama spits his drink out like back into the cup,
- 24:53Speaker 1: so not like a big spit take, and he's like,
- 24:55Speaker 1: huh you're asking me? Uh like u K rock? Mafoo
- 25:01Speaker 1: You says uk We know Yama is like rock from England.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I listened to Japanese music too, though, Haki says, when
- 25:09Speaker 1: are you Alma's playlist? Throw some really sophisticated songs, and
- 25:12Speaker 1: sometimes Kaji's like influenced by your dad's taste. Huh oo.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Yama says, well, something like that. Mafu You is just
- 25:21Speaker 1: kind of taking this all in ha. Doki says, as
- 25:24Speaker 1: for me, Kaiji cuts him off. You're into a lot
- 25:26Speaker 1: of poppy, cutesy music. How do he He's like cute,
- 25:30Speaker 1: He clears his throat. Well, out of the three of us,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I probably do listen to the most Japanese rock, and
- 25:35Speaker 1: I do like pop too, Kaji Soun's got the broadest
- 25:39Speaker 1: taste of all of us. He'll go to a metal
- 25:41Speaker 1: festival one day and a classical concert. The next Kaji's like, well,
- 25:45Speaker 1: I am a music major. Mafu You says a music major.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Oo Yama like makes the thumbs up and says he
- 25:52Speaker 1: plays violin. Isn't that awesome? Kaji's like, why are you
- 25:56Speaker 1: bragging about me? Haki says he's a total Aki Eko fanboy.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Mafu You says, so you all have different music tastes.
- 26:05Speaker 1: How do He's like, but I think we get along
- 26:07Speaker 1: so well because our tastes are so different. Kaji says,
- 26:10Speaker 1: when it comes to our musical direction, he holds out
- 26:14Speaker 1: like his hand to ouaiino Oyama like he's got a
- 26:17Speaker 1: microphone in it, and we pan over to Ouainoyama and
- 26:20Speaker 1: he says, whatever I do what I want. He looks
- 26:23Speaker 1: pretty edgy. We pan back to Kaji and Haddoki, and
- 26:26Speaker 1: Kaji says, is our basic attitude. We didn't go into
- 26:29Speaker 1: this thinking we had to understand each other. Hadoki nods.
- 26:33Speaker 1: In fact, when I've played in bands where we're all
- 26:35Speaker 1: the same interests, we ended up arguing and it never
- 26:37Speaker 1: worked out. We clash because we like the same things. Honestly, guys,
- 26:42Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a thing or not, but whatever,
- 26:44Speaker 1: Kaji's like, I totally get it. Yeah, I don't know
- 26:47Speaker 1: if I do, it always ends in bloodshed. How Dock
- 26:51Speaker 1: He's like, uh, yeah, no, one usually bleeds. We cut
- 26:54Speaker 1: to a set of double doors with a sign that
- 26:57Speaker 1: says open in the window of them, and into a
- 27:01Speaker 1: fairly empty cafe. How do Key is behind the counter,
- 27:04Speaker 1: like you know, facing the wall, like maybe cleaning something
- 27:07Speaker 1: or who knows what, and he hears a door open,
- 27:10Speaker 1: like the little bell on the door rings, and he
- 27:12Speaker 1: looks up and he's like welcome, and his face like
- 27:15Speaker 1: kind of falls And I don't think it's that he
- 27:17Speaker 1: is unhappy to see this person. It's just that he
- 27:20Speaker 1: realized he didn't have to put on a fake, polite
- 27:22Speaker 1: smile anyway. He says, take Chan yay, it's my favorite character.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Takes like yo. He's like standing in the doorway. We
- 27:31Speaker 1: cut to him drinking a beer, specifically his throat as
- 27:35Speaker 1: he drinks it, and he sets it down and he's like, man,
- 27:38Speaker 1: that's good. How he's like exhausted lately, which I thought
- 27:42Speaker 1: was a really weird thing to say there, But he
- 27:44Speaker 1: obviously knows something that I don't because takes like, hell, yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 1: I am I never knew planning shows on my own
- 27:50Speaker 1: would be this rough. It's terrible, guys. He sets his
- 27:53Speaker 1: head down on the counter. I never want to do
- 27:55Speaker 1: this again. Yeah, how doke? He laughs? Didn't you say
- 27:59Speaker 1: that before? Take kind of chuckles and he's like, how
- 28:02Speaker 1: are things with you? How's the band? During this part,
- 28:05Speaker 1: we're just looking at his beer on the counter and
- 28:07Speaker 1: some olives that's next to it. How do he? He's like, well,
- 28:11Speaker 1: we actually just got a vocalist. We see Take takes
- 28:14Speaker 1: some olives out of the little bowl with chopsticks. How
- 28:17Speaker 1: do he continues? I get this, He's a high schooler.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Takei's like, yeah, how do he continues? Having a vocalist
- 28:25Speaker 1: is refreshing and Uiinoyama is super pumped, so things are
- 28:28Speaker 1: going well. Take's like, hey, you want to perform at
- 28:30Speaker 1: the show? I'm organizing, man, how do Kei is silent
- 28:33Speaker 1: for a second, and then he looks up at him
- 28:35Speaker 1: like confused, and he's like what, Yeah, this doesn't actually happen.
- 28:39Speaker 1: In the manga, it is nighttime now and we see
- 28:43Speaker 1: the still image of Uyoyama's apartment complex, the exterior of
- 28:48Speaker 1: it that they do a lot, and we see uyin
- 28:52Speaker 1: Oyama in his room, leaning against this bed, playing guitar
- 28:55Speaker 1: with his headphones on, and he's like about to write something,
- 28:58Speaker 1: but then he stops and he thinks about the interaction
- 29:01Speaker 1: between Mafuu and Kiadaki, you know, when he came up
- 29:05Speaker 1: to him and he was like, why do you have
- 29:06Speaker 1: that guitar? And shit. Instead of writing anything, he puts
- 29:09Speaker 1: his pen down and he takes a breath. His phone
- 29:12Speaker 1: starts to buzz and it is twenty thirty two, which
- 29:15Speaker 1: is I guess eight thirty two pm. He takes it
- 29:18Speaker 1: off the bed to look at it, and we see
- 29:20Speaker 1: a text conversation between him and I assume Mafoo doesn't
- 29:24Speaker 1: say his name at all, but his little picture icon
- 29:28Speaker 1: is a white, fluffy puppy, so I'm thinking that's him.
- 29:32Speaker 1: So anyway, we see the conversation Uno Yama had started
- 29:35Speaker 1: and it says can you come to shibu Yeah. At
- 29:38Speaker 1: twenty one, Mafu you responded, I can. At twenty oh six,
- 29:42Speaker 1: Wuino Yama said see you tomorrow in front of the
- 29:44Speaker 1: ticket gate at one pm at twenty eight and what
- 29:48Speaker 1: Mafu you had just said is see you. Then at
- 29:50Speaker 1: twenty thirty two, Wuino yam exhales and smiles because that's
- 29:56Speaker 1: really sweet, and then he types something back and sets
- 29:59Speaker 1: his phone down on the floor. He starts to play again,
- 30:02Speaker 1: and we cut to what he texted back, and it's
- 30:04Speaker 1: just yep, which I could read yay, and it said umu,
- 30:08Speaker 1: which apparently means yep. Then it gets a little red
- 30:12Speaker 1: next to it, so we know that's awful. You reddit's yay.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna go the eye catch awesome. Now we see
- 30:20Speaker 1: like big city buildings. It's daytime and it is partly sunny,
- 30:24Speaker 1: which is a little different than partly cloudy because there's
- 30:26Speaker 1: more clouds than there is sun. If it's partly sunny,
- 30:30Speaker 1: I believe, but it's still a blue sky like always.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Now we see a sign that says Ino Kashira line
- 30:38Speaker 1: should be a station. Oh. Nayama is standing like with
- 30:41Speaker 1: a column behind him in the station. He's looking kind
- 30:45Speaker 1: of stressed out. It's scary when you meet people, and
- 30:49Speaker 1: he thinks where is he? Uh? He looks down at
- 30:53Speaker 1: his phone and he sees a text from Afulu but
- 30:57Speaker 1: I don't think is new and it says I'm almost there.
- 31:00Speaker 1: We can't see the full time, but it was at
- 31:01Speaker 1: twelve something, which they're supposed to meet at one, so
- 31:04Speaker 1: that makes sense. Ouinoyama thinks, almost here. He looks at
- 31:08Speaker 1: the clock and it's one o three. Isn't it past time?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 31:12Speaker 1: I mean I get it. I like to be early too,
- 31:14Speaker 1: but you gotta give him at least five minutes. He continues,
- 31:17Speaker 1: maybe he's almost there, doesn't actually mean almost here. He
- 31:21Speaker 1: looks down at his phone again. There's a new text
- 31:24Speaker 1: from Mafu. You now, and it says where are you? Actually,
- 31:27Speaker 1: it just says dolko, which I liked, which means where.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Oinoyama says hmm, and he looks around. He types right
- 31:34Speaker 1: outside the ticket gate? Where are you? Mafuu messages back
- 31:38Speaker 1: right outside the ticket gate? Oh? Uin Oyama looks around again,
- 31:43Speaker 1: getting annoyed, and he kind of sighs, and then he
- 31:46Speaker 1: realizes I'm Mafu is calling him, and he picks it
- 31:49Speaker 1: up and he's like, MafA you, where the hell are you.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Mafu's like the ticket gate. Ouinayama says, huh. He looks
- 31:57Speaker 1: around again, and Mafui's like, where are you you? Uino
- 32:01Speaker 1: Yama says, I told you by the central ticket gate. Ugh,
- 32:05Speaker 1: we see a sign now, that says, you know, Kishira Line,
- 32:08Speaker 1: Shubu station west gate, there's more than one gate. People,
- 32:13Speaker 1: they fucked up. We pan down to mafou who is
- 32:16Speaker 1: looking at his phone, and we hear Uina Yama say,
- 32:20Speaker 1: there you are. He's like panting. Mafuyu looks up and
- 32:24Speaker 1: we see him running over and Uino Yama finally gets
- 32:27Speaker 1: there and he puts his hands on his knees and
- 32:29Speaker 1: he's like panting, trying to catch his breath, and he's like,
- 32:32Speaker 1: my fault. I should have picked a more precise spot.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I'll be more specific next time. Mafu you knots Oa
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yama's like, you did bring your guitar? I see good, okay,
- 32:44Speaker 1: let's go. He points in a direction and they start
- 32:47Speaker 1: to walk off. Now we see a carved like dog
- 32:50Speaker 1: statue outside somewhere, and Mafuju's looking at it, and we
- 32:53Speaker 1: get some shots of Shiba. I guess the city, and
- 32:57Speaker 1: Mafuyu is just kind of looking around, and we hear
- 33:00Speaker 1: Uyeno Oyama say, there are tons of places in Shiba
- 33:03Speaker 1: here that sell instruments, but if we're going to look
- 33:06Speaker 1: for effect pedals, we should go here first. Uno Yama
- 33:09Speaker 1: is walking down a set of stairs to like a
- 33:11Speaker 1: basement shop, and there are signs that say Umiba Forest
- 33:15Speaker 1: Guitars and also ground in Forest. I don't know which
- 33:20Speaker 1: shop this is, and so for a second I thought
- 33:23Speaker 1: maybe Umiba Mint Ground, but it doesn't. It means beach,
- 33:26Speaker 1: so I have no idea. Maybe it's two branches of
- 33:29Speaker 1: the shop. I don't understand. Mafuu watches him walk down
- 33:32Speaker 1: the stairs, then also starts to walk down as well,
- 33:35Speaker 1: and the sliding doors at the bottom open, and Uyeno
- 33:38Speaker 1: Yama walks in. Mafuu gasps because it's a music store.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I guess it's like a room. It's not that cool
- 33:45Speaker 1: of a music store. I'm sorry, this guitar shop or
- 33:49Speaker 1: whatever it is, it's just not that cool. It's like
- 33:52Speaker 1: one room. It's got a tile floor. It has like
- 33:55Speaker 1: lots of amps on one wall, and then like a
- 33:57Speaker 1: whole wall with like a big case of petals. Mafo
- 34:01Speaker 1: You kind of gasps again because it's a place. And
- 34:05Speaker 1: then we cut to them standing in front of the
- 34:07Speaker 1: case of many pedals, and Mafu You's like, are these
- 34:11Speaker 1: all effect pedals? We know? Yama's like yeah, Mafo You
- 34:15Speaker 1: points to a yellow one and he's like, even that
- 34:18Speaker 1: one we know, Ayama says yeah. Mafou points to another
- 34:22Speaker 1: one that too we know. Yama says yeah, Mafo. You
- 34:27Speaker 1: kneels down to look at some other pedals by the
- 34:29Speaker 1: floor and gasps again, what's the best effect pedal we know?
- 34:34Speaker 1: Yama says, hmmm, well, for your first one, you should
- 34:38Speaker 1: probably get a distortion pedal. Mafo, you says distortion we know.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yama's like, since you just started playing and you probably
- 34:46Speaker 1: don't know what kind of sound you want. He's walking
- 34:48Speaker 1: somewhere and Muffoo's following him, getting a multi effect pedal.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Right now, we just hurt your wallet. They kneel down
- 34:54Speaker 1: in front of another area and wuya Yama picks up
- 34:56Speaker 1: a blue pedal. I guess these cases aren't locked, and
- 35:00Speaker 1: he says, I think this is a pretty good choice.
- 35:04Speaker 1: The blue pedal has three knobs on it, a level
- 35:07Speaker 1: tone and gay knob, and then like also a button
- 35:09Speaker 1: that you press and it doesn't have any brand on
- 35:12Speaker 1: it or say what it is at all, which is
- 35:15Speaker 1: weird and Mafi's like, it's cute, sure, we know, y'amas like,
- 35:20Speaker 1: I guess it kind of is want to give it
- 35:22Speaker 1: a try. MafA You says, huh, we can try it.
- 35:26Speaker 1: We know, ya amost like if we don't try it out,
- 35:28Speaker 1: we won't know what it sounds like. He stands and
- 35:30Speaker 1: he starts to walk away, and he's like, excuse me, Mafo.
- 35:34Speaker 1: You hears some muted guitar off to the side, and
- 35:37Speaker 1: he looks over and there's some guy playing guitar in
- 35:40Speaker 1: a practice room like our you know, a room that
- 35:43Speaker 1: you test things out in. I don't know what that's
- 35:45Speaker 1: called right now, but the guy is facing away, he's
- 35:48Speaker 1: like facing the other wall, so we can't see him
- 35:50Speaker 1: playing guitar because we don't want to show people playing
- 35:52Speaker 1: guitar in this episode. Then we see some people looking
- 35:54Speaker 1: at amps and we see some soundboards, you know, just
- 35:58Speaker 1: we're just getting a feel of this place. Like Mafuu
- 36:01Speaker 1: is just kind of staring at all this and he's like,
- 36:03Speaker 1: I guess they're all in bands. Now. We cut to
- 36:06Speaker 1: the pedal all plugged in. Mafou is sitting on a
- 36:09Speaker 1: stool with his guitar. Uino Yama is kneeling in front
- 36:12Speaker 1: of like a Fender AM and he's like, go ahead,
- 36:14Speaker 1: play a little. Mafoo nods and plays a chord. I
- 36:18Speaker 1: am not gonna play for you here because I don't
- 36:19Speaker 1: have a pedal, so you can't hear what would sound like.
- 36:22Speaker 1: And it actually makes me kind of sad, but whatever,
- 36:26Speaker 1: Uinoyama says, that's how your guitar sounds without any effects,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and then he presses the button on the pedal and
- 36:32Speaker 1: he nods and goes hmm. Mafuu nods back and strums
- 36:36Speaker 1: and this time it sounds really crunchy, like distorted, but
- 36:42Speaker 1: that's not the right term. But still he gasps and
- 36:46Speaker 1: he starts to blush a little, and Unoyama's like, that's
- 36:49Speaker 1: what overdrive sounds like. Wait, I thought we were doing distortion.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Mafuu is like, awesome, Unayama says, is that the one
- 36:56Speaker 1: you want? Mafuu nods yeah. Okay, before we go any further,
- 37:01Speaker 1: let's talk about this cause it's pissing me off. So
- 37:04Speaker 1: overdrive and distortion are two different things. They both give
- 37:07Speaker 1: you that like crunchy guitar sound, which basically it's based
- 37:11Speaker 1: on like clipping, like you're clipping the top and bottom frequencies,
- 37:15Speaker 1: so it just sounds distorted, but technically they're not the
- 37:19Speaker 1: same thing. I'm not super good at electric guitar shit.
- 37:23Speaker 1: But to the best of my knowledge, overdrive is basically
- 37:28Speaker 1: emulating a real natural occurrence. Where so, if you have
- 37:33Speaker 1: like a two bamp, like I guess I wanna call
- 37:35Speaker 1: it like an analog gamp, but I don't think that's right,
- 37:38Speaker 1: and you turn it up all all the way, it
- 37:41Speaker 1: just sounds kind of not good. And by not good,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I mean it sounds like clipped and fucked up a little.
- 37:49Speaker 1: But that's also cool. When you're playing like you know,
- 37:52Speaker 1: harder rock or metal or punk, that kind of distorted,
- 37:55Speaker 1: crungy sound is really well liked. So you can get
- 38:00Speaker 1: that by turning it knob up all the way and
- 38:03Speaker 1: you know, giving yourself and everyone around you hearing damage.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Or you can get a pedal and make it sound
- 38:09Speaker 1: like that without that step, So that's what that's for.
- 38:12Speaker 1: But it's supposed to sound like this natural effect that happens.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Distortion is not natural at all. It's just kind of
- 38:20Speaker 1: its own thing. It has like more frequencies in it.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna talk about distortion. I'm just gonna tell
- 38:27Speaker 1: you that they're two different things. So I don't understand
- 38:30Speaker 1: what happened here, But overdrive is good, So picking up
- 38:34Speaker 1: an overdrive pedal is good. Also. I just wanted to
- 38:38Speaker 1: explain a little bit about pedals that they didn't say.
- 38:41Speaker 1: So it's called a pedal because you use it with
- 38:44Speaker 1: your foot. Basically, some of them have buttons on them,
- 38:47Speaker 1: and you press the button when you want to turn
- 38:49Speaker 1: it on, and then when you don't want it on anymore,
- 38:51Speaker 1: you turn it off. And some of them have like
- 38:53Speaker 1: literal petals like a car pedal, which I like those
- 38:56Speaker 1: better because they're fun. But basically the reason you'd have
- 39:00Speaker 1: them in like a pedal form is that way you
- 39:02Speaker 1: can easily turn the effects on and off because maybe
- 39:04Speaker 1: a part of the song doesn't have an effect on
- 39:07Speaker 1: it and then the part of it does, or you're
- 39:09Speaker 1: you're adding lots of effects to an area, you know.
- 39:12Speaker 1: So that's what I wanted to tell you. I don't know.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Let's move on anyway. We now see a price sticker
- 39:19Speaker 1: that I believe is on the pedal, and it says
- 39:22Speaker 1: twelve l's and yen pre tax, which is seventy six
- 39:27Speaker 1: dollars and thirty nine cents, which is very expensive. I mean,
- 39:30Speaker 1: in my opinion, MAFUU looks kind of comically distressed, and
- 39:34Speaker 1: Ouyinoyama is like, I guess new ones do cost about
- 39:38Speaker 1: that much. Let's go, eh, I mean you could get
- 39:41Speaker 1: one for cheaper. Absolutely, I looked them up. You could
- 39:44Speaker 1: get a pedal for like thirty bucks. But I'm sure
- 39:46Speaker 1: they're not great, but you could anyway. Ouinnoyama continues, let's go,
- 39:50Speaker 1: and he starts to walk away. Mafuu follows with his
- 39:53Speaker 1: head down because I guess it's way too expensive so
- 39:56Speaker 1: we can't buy it. And we see them walk out
- 40:00Speaker 1: and Winna Yama turns left. Mafou stops and is like,
- 40:04Speaker 1: uh oua yamaku in the station's this way. He points
- 40:07Speaker 1: to the right waya Ayama stops walking and turns back
- 40:10Speaker 1: and is like, we're going this way. He starts to
- 40:12Speaker 1: walk again. Mafo you looks surprised, but he follows, and
- 40:16Speaker 1: then we cut to a building exterior shot. It's like
- 40:18Speaker 1: a great tiled building, sure, and Mafo you looks concerned
- 40:25Speaker 1: for some reason. I guess as ouiino Yama walks to
- 40:29Speaker 1: the entrance and Wuya Yama says, Mafo, you don't worry.
- 40:33Speaker 1: I come here all the time. I don't know why
- 40:35Speaker 1: this shop is scary, guys. Mafo. You just blinks and
- 40:39Speaker 1: we see a sign and it says Little Tech Repair
- 40:42Speaker 1: and Maintenance established in twenty sixteen. Music and repair shop. Again,
- 40:46Speaker 1: not scary, I don't understand. Inside we get some still
- 40:50Speaker 1: shots of guitars, lots of packs of different types of
- 40:53Speaker 1: strings and guitar picks. This is a more interesting music
- 40:57Speaker 1: shop in my opinion. Mafau looks around and he's like
- 41:00Speaker 1: music store. You were just at a music store. I
- 41:03Speaker 1: don't know what's going on, you know. Yama's like, yeah,
- 41:06Speaker 1: for used instruments, there you go. Mafu's like you can
- 41:09Speaker 1: get secondhand instruments. Ouayama says, if you try it out
- 41:14Speaker 1: and it sounds okay, who cares. They have a decent
- 41:16Speaker 1: selection here. Mafu. You picks up a drumstick and looks
- 41:20Speaker 1: at it because there's like a whole display with like
- 41:22Speaker 1: lots of drumsticks. I guess, and Uino Yama says that
- 41:25Speaker 1: stuff's new though, yeah, I don't think you'd want old drumsticks.
- 41:28Speaker 1: They probably are all beaten up or broken in half. Mafu.
- 41:31Speaker 1: You puts down the drumstick and some guy approaches from
- 41:34Speaker 1: behind them and he's like barely inframeed like we can
- 41:37Speaker 1: only see part of the back of him, and I
- 41:39Speaker 1: think he has black hair, and he says, welcome, anything
- 41:42Speaker 1: you're looking for. They turn and Yama's like, hey, do
- 41:47Speaker 1: you have a blue overdrive pedal? It doesn't have a brand,
- 41:52Speaker 1: it's just the blue kind. What the fuck, dude. We
- 41:54Speaker 1: hear the guy say, oh, give me a second, and
- 41:57Speaker 1: we hear him walk away. He knows what flew over
- 42:00Speaker 1: drive pedal means. We pop into a frame with the
- 42:04Speaker 1: same pedal but looks a little bit grungy, and Mafuju's like,
- 42:07Speaker 1: that's it. Winoyama is like, how much is it? We
- 42:11Speaker 1: see now that they're at the counter, and the guy
- 42:13Speaker 1: who we still really can't see, says seven thousand yen
- 42:16Speaker 1: plus tax, which is forty four dollars and fifty seven cents.
- 42:19Speaker 1: That's not so bad. Wuinoyama is like, seven thousand yen.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Mafo you takes out his wallet and Uinoyama says, you
- 42:26Speaker 1: have enough. We kind of see in Mafuy's wallet and
- 42:30Speaker 1: it looks like maybe he has three thousand yen, but
- 42:32Speaker 1: we're really not getting a good shot of it. So
- 42:34Speaker 1: it was weird. But Uinoyama's expression makes me think that no,
- 42:38Speaker 1: he doesn't have enough. Mafu's like, uh, do you have
- 42:42Speaker 1: layaway plans? Lena Yama makes like a surprize noise, like
- 42:45Speaker 1: you didn't expect him to ask this or he didn't
- 42:48Speaker 1: know that was possible. Mafo, you continues, I'll work some
- 42:51Speaker 1: more and come back. The guy who we still can't see, says,
- 42:54Speaker 1: could you write down your name and contact info here?
- 42:56Speaker 1: Then Mafu's like sure. The guy looks over at Uino. Yah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: we finally see him. Actually, I thought he was just
- 43:02Speaker 1: not gonna have a character design. Ever, he's got black hair,
- 43:05Speaker 1: black glasses, and he's wearing a blue shirt with like
- 43:08Speaker 1: what kind of looks like an American flag on it
- 43:11Speaker 1: sort of, and he's like friend of yours. Oyama's like, uh, yeah,
- 43:16Speaker 1: we're in a band together. Mafou turns to Uinoyama smiling
- 43:20Speaker 1: and like leaning in and blushing, and Uinoyama is like,
- 43:23Speaker 1: what we see some buildings outside now, and it's sunset,
- 43:27Speaker 1: which is a time of the day. We have really
- 43:29Speaker 1: not seen that much in this show yet, if at all.
- 43:33Speaker 1: So yay and Uinoyama and Mafu, you are walking up
- 43:38Speaker 1: the steps of what I think is a pedestrian overpass,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I'm not really sure. And they get to the top
- 43:44Speaker 1: and so they're just walking now normally, and Uno Yama says,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I'm glad they had the one you wanted. Yeah, the
- 43:50Speaker 1: blue one, I guess. Mafu You's like, yeah, he's quiet
- 43:54Speaker 1: for a second. I've never been anywhere like that, like
- 43:57Speaker 1: a store, Dudeoyama just kind of looks at him. Mafu
- 44:01Speaker 1: You continues, thank you for taking me. Wuino Yama is like, sure,
- 44:07Speaker 1: we see now that Kasai and that short black haired
- 44:10Speaker 1: girl are crossing like another pedestrian crossing a little ways away.
- 44:14Speaker 1: And again we're kind of far away, so we don't
- 44:17Speaker 1: really know which one of them is talking. But one
- 44:19Speaker 1: of them says, that was so fun. How about a
- 44:22Speaker 1: little break? The other one says okay. At this point,
- 44:25Speaker 1: Uino Yama and mafu You kind of pass by on
- 44:29Speaker 1: the closer bridge, like right in front of the camera,
- 44:31Speaker 1: and the dark haired girl looks over and is like oh.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Kasai also looks over and says hmm. They both see
- 44:38Speaker 1: them now, and the dark haired girl, I think says
- 44:42Speaker 1: it's Uino Yamasato kun. We've kind of cut back to
- 44:45Speaker 1: the guys now as Uino Yama is pulling Sato to
- 44:48Speaker 1: the side so he's out of the way of someone
- 44:50Speaker 1: who's just walking in the other direction, just kind of cute.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Kasai's like, why are they always together? The black haired
- 44:56Speaker 1: Girl's like what, Kasa looks comically distressed. She's got blue
- 45:02Speaker 1: wiggly lines emanating from her, and she's like they're all
- 45:07Speaker 1: over each other day after day. Her hands are kind
- 45:10Speaker 1: of like moving and wiggling because she's so frustrated. Why
- 45:14Speaker 1: are they hanging out outside of school too? Why are
- 45:18Speaker 1: they daty or something? I wanted to point out here
- 45:21Speaker 1: that she has already asked if we know Yama is gay,
- 45:24Speaker 1: like twice in the manga, but they've been cut out
- 45:26Speaker 1: of the anime anyway. The black haired girl is like, uh.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Kasai says huh. Black haired girl says oh uh. Casai's like,
- 45:36Speaker 1: what do you know something? Black haired Girl's like, well,
- 45:41Speaker 1: I uh, I went to the same middle school Assatokon,
- 45:46Speaker 1: and well, uh, we got a shot now of Mafuyu
- 45:51Speaker 1: and way no Yama walking, and then we get this
- 45:55Speaker 1: weird old kind of like camera film shots of the
- 46:00Speaker 1: back of Mafuyu and someone who has their arm around him,
- 46:05Speaker 1: like their arm around his back, and the black haired
- 46:08Speaker 1: girl continues there were rumors about him, what kind of rumors?
- 46:14Speaker 1: The film kind of glitches, and then we go to
- 46:16Speaker 1: the title card number zero four Fluorescent Adolescents, and then
- 46:21Speaker 1: we go to the ending yay, and that's it. Closing thoughts.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I was supposed to tell you when we switched to
- 46:28Speaker 1: All Anime original and I forgot, so let me see
- 46:32Speaker 1: it was. Yeah, I think it was around the time
- 46:35Speaker 1: that Hodoki was in the cafe with take So it's
- 46:39Speaker 1: been like a lot of the episode in the manga
- 46:42Speaker 1: as far as I can tell, I have no idea
- 46:44Speaker 1: how the show even got set up in the manga,
- 46:46Speaker 1: Like you just find out that they have a show,
- 46:49Speaker 1: and there's none of this Mafuu going with Unoyama to
- 46:52Speaker 1: look at effects pedals and Shibuya or the whole thing
- 46:55Speaker 1: like waiting at the wrong station entrance gag, which wasn't
- 46:59Speaker 1: really funny but it is okay, so like yeah, and
- 47:03Speaker 1: that part with Kasai and the other girl where the
- 47:06Speaker 1: other girl's like, hey, I went to middle school with Mafoyo.
- 47:10Speaker 1: That is in there, but it's not part of the
- 47:13Speaker 1: scene that it's in here, like they're in school when
- 47:16Speaker 1: that happens, and it happens a little bit earlier. I
- 47:19Speaker 1: think it happens like right after Kasai is trying to
- 47:22Speaker 1: wake up way No Yama and he walks out with Mafou.
- 47:26Speaker 1: I think that's when she's like, what the fuck is
- 47:28Speaker 1: with them? But yeah, so again, a lot of anime
- 47:33Speaker 1: original stuff the last couple of episodes, Like they really
- 47:38Speaker 1: really don't want to do animation, and again like this
- 47:41Speaker 1: is probably because they don't have the budget to do animation,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but like there's so many shots where I don't see anything,
- 47:49Speaker 1: or like you're seeing like someone's leg or like a
- 47:53Speaker 1: countertop or like the top of someone's head so you
- 47:57Speaker 1: don't have to animate them. It's kind of gotten to
- 48:00Speaker 1: the point where like it's noticeable, which is not great,
- 48:03Speaker 1: and they're trying to do it creatively, but yeah, it's
- 48:06Speaker 1: it's a lot. And also there's so many establishing shots.
- 48:10Speaker 1: And I mean it's not like I'm not used to
- 48:13Speaker 1: seeing establishing shots in like media, but I realized that
- 48:18Speaker 1: in this podcast, the anime that we have, you know,
- 48:21Speaker 1: looked at, doesn't tend to have a lot of them,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and if they do, they're not repetitive. Like I feel
- 48:26Speaker 1: like Door, Hey, Door could have actually used some more
- 48:30Speaker 1: establishing shots so that things weren't so splintered all over
- 48:33Speaker 1: the place and confusing. And then we have had some
- 48:36Speaker 1: that have establishing shots, but like they're so varied because
- 48:39Speaker 1: the locations are really varied, or because they always give
- 48:42Speaker 1: us different ones. This one, they reuse the same establishing
- 48:47Speaker 1: shots like a lot, like noticeably a lot, like the
- 48:51Speaker 1: shots of the apartment complexes and the practice space. I
- 48:56Speaker 1: just I keep seeing them, and that like the signs,
- 48:59Speaker 1: like the class so much that it's noticeable, and that's
- 49:03Speaker 1: like not great. But yeah, I mean I'm just looking
- 49:07Speaker 1: at this and going like they had a really limited
- 49:08Speaker 1: budget basically I can see it, which I mean, it
- 49:12Speaker 1: is what it is. You can only cover it so much.
- 49:15Speaker 1: And hey, they still made a show and it's still
- 49:19Speaker 1: it's a good show. So I guess, so like yeay,
- 49:23Speaker 1: I don't know, but yeah, so this episode is interesting
- 49:27Speaker 1: because like not a lot happens, honestly, like nothing happens,
- 49:32Speaker 1: Like Mafia is gonna be the band, that's it. They
- 49:35Speaker 1: got some pedals. I don't know. It's a really Yeah,
- 49:38Speaker 1: it's a really nothing hey episode. I'm sorry, yeah, but
- 49:41Speaker 1: it really is. The Only thing that I think is
- 49:44Speaker 1: really of notes is what's going on with Kasai and
- 49:47Speaker 1: that other girl, which is there were weird rumors about Mafuu.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Is it about him being gay? Is it? What is
- 49:54Speaker 1: it about? Is it about the thing with his guitar?
- 49:57Speaker 1: And what is Kasai gonna do when she finds out
- 50:01Speaker 1: because she is interested in Uaunoyama definitely, even though it's
- 50:06Speaker 1: very clear Ueynoyama doesn't even think of her as in anything,
- 50:09Speaker 1: let alone someone he's interested in. So yeah, I mean
- 50:13Speaker 1: that's really all I got, I think. So I hope
- 50:16Speaker 1: that this was good enough for you, because I don't know, man,
- 50:19Speaker 1: I'm trying real hard here. I hope that I'm doing
- 50:22Speaker 1: an okay job. But uh, I'm gonna go do the thing.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Whatever that thing is. I don't know what it is.
- 50:29Speaker 1: And I hope that you do the thing too. I mean,
- 50:31Speaker 1: unless you don't want to do the thing and the
- 50:33Speaker 1: thing is bad, that don't do the thing. You have
- 50:35Speaker 1: my permission not to do the bad thing regardless. I
- 50:39Speaker 1: hope you have a really good whatever, and I will
- 50:42Speaker 1: be here again the next time that we do this,
- 50:46Speaker 1: which is probably next week I would assume, right, I
- 50:49Speaker 1: hope so later weeps
