- 0:03Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:07Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Bar and Lazar.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Everybody nailed it joined us always. Here is Evan Lazar
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Alex Bars, Tomoro Douglass's you.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Know, I'll Appleete talk about Tomorrow Douglas.
- 0:24Speaker 1: So I think it is fair to say that to
- 0:27Speaker 1: Mario Douglas had a really strong summer last year too.
- 0:29Speaker 2: This feels better, though, I think that feels different.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I would agree these are not fully tackled to the
- 0:36Speaker 1: ground type of practices. So a jitterbug speed slot receiver
- 0:40Speaker 1: is going to be tough to cover in this kind
- 0:42Speaker 1: of setting. But when they break out into team drills,
- 0:46Speaker 1: the first three receivers on the field have pretty consistently
- 0:49Speaker 1: been a j Brown Romeo dots to Mario Douglass and
- 0:52Speaker 1: Pop has been the slot receiver and three receiver sets
- 0:57Speaker 1: all summer long, and it's really not waned one way
- 1:00Speaker 1: or the other.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Catch two.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Catch do you want to explain yourself? Do you want
- 1:11Speaker 1: to explain your missed too many? That says three, it's eleven.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Well, the intro is usually about a minute, so the
- 1:21Speaker 2: intro started two minutes later. I was recording a podcast
- 1:24Speaker 2: with Phil Perry. That will be okay, Patriots sub podcast,
- 1:27Speaker 2: Sports sub YouTube channel flex.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Thanks for me.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It's me and Phil talking ball. Obviously it ran a
- 1:32Speaker 2: little so nice flex, Nice flex.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I like, I like Phil Perry feels great. Yeah, Phil's great.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Uh not.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You know, I don't really like hyping rival podcasts too
- 1:43Speaker 1: much other than yours.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I'll let you do that.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So, but I do you know, Tom and Phil do
- 1:47Speaker 1: a good job on their pod, But listen to this
- 1:51Speaker 1: pod first and then Patriots un film.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Because I had to run here, I did not get
- 1:58Speaker 2: a chance to edit and post it. So somebody back
- 2:00Speaker 2: at station is doing it, Thank you, Jake Seymour. So
- 2:03Speaker 2: it actually probably won't be up until we're just about
- 2:05Speaker 2: done here. So it's going to time out perfectly.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Well.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You you guys have like seventeen interns now, so someone's.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Got Jake Jason. Jake does digital Forrest. He busses ass.
- 2:13Speaker 2: He's great. We do a bunch of interns.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You guys have a lot of it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: They're all great. Most of them are great. I'll let
- 2:17Speaker 2: them figure out who isn't.
- 2:18Speaker 1: All right, enough of that and enough pleasantries. We have
- 2:23Speaker 1: a lot to talk about. Alex so enough pleasantries here today.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's even Lazar, it's Alex Barth, it's Ace behind the glass.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Catch twenty two with you a little bit earlier today
- 2:32Speaker 1: than usual, started the hour earlier. There's some things going
- 2:34Speaker 1: on this afternoon, early and late.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yes, that's true.
- 2:40Speaker 1: A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Balance Athletics.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Center officially official. Well, it take place.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The football operation has been gone out of there since
- 2:51Speaker 1: I want to say April, but they were going to
- 2:55Speaker 1: officially open the building. All the branding, all the walls,
- 2:58Speaker 1: all the paintings, all all the insides. The design of
- 3:02Speaker 1: it is now done, so that would be cool. So
- 3:05Speaker 1: there'll be a lot of content coming out from Patriots
- 3:08Speaker 1: dot com with videos and pictures and a lot more
- 3:12Speaker 1: detail look at what it looks like on the inside,
- 3:16Speaker 1: because I know that we've been a little bit embargoed
- 3:18Speaker 1: on taking pictures of the inside. So moved up the
- 3:21Speaker 1: show a little bit. But we have a ton to
- 3:23Speaker 1: talk about today. Alex and I were both at the
- 3:25Speaker 1: joint practice yesterday with the Colts, and there's a preseason
- 3:29Speaker 1: game tomorrow night. Now Drake May is not going to play,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and I would imagine that that list would include Drake May,
- 3:36Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez, Milton Williams, AJ Brown, pretty much all the
- 3:40Speaker 1: frontline players that are veterans. I doubt we'll play, but
- 3:44Speaker 1: still we'll talk about players to watch and what we'll
- 3:47Speaker 1: be watching for tomorrow night as well. But I want
- 3:49Speaker 1: to start with the joint practice. And I have about
- 3:51Speaker 1: ten or so takeaways here. I say or so because
- 3:56Speaker 1: I added a bullet just for you at the end
- 3:58Speaker 1: that I didn't I can't believe you almost missed this
- 4:01Speaker 1: I didn't have on my list. But I'm going to
- 4:02Speaker 1: allow a punter minute for you at the end.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Allow. I'm going to allow it so kind of you
- 4:08Speaker 2: to allow me to talk about one of the best
- 4:10Speaker 2: players on the field yesterday.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So I'll allow the punter talk. I'll give you a
- 4:15Speaker 1: minute at the end here of this of our takeaway segment.
- 4:20Speaker 1: But I wanted to start Drake May. I know that
- 4:23Speaker 1: Christian Gonzales is also a big story, and we're going
- 4:25Speaker 1: to get to that after we talk about Drake, but
- 4:28Speaker 1: with Drake May, the you know, I wanted to see
- 4:32Speaker 1: one of those practices out of Drake May. At some point.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I don't necessarily ride the roller coaster and need every
- 4:39Speaker 1: practice to be perfect, right, like it's training camp, it's practice.
- 4:43Speaker 2: We know who Drake May is. Right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I'm not necessarily going into it thinking that way anymore
- 4:49Speaker 1: about a young quarterback where you know, maybe you're evaluating
- 4:52Speaker 1: practice really closely and everything is you know, Zubruta filmed
- 4:57Speaker 1: and overanalyze and all that kind of stuff.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I don't necessarily look at it like that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But they have three joint practices yesterday with the Colts
- 5:06Speaker 1: and then too next week with the Eagles, and one
- 5:09Speaker 1: of those three practices, Alex I wanted to see Drake
- 5:12Speaker 1: Drake May May right like I wanted to see him
- 5:14Speaker 1: go out there and look like an MVP candidate and
- 5:17Speaker 1: light it up. And for ninety five percent of yesterday's practice,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I was pretty close to being pants off, you know.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And I was pretty close.
- 5:27Speaker 1: To being that glowing about how he performed in practice
- 5:31Speaker 1: and how the offense performed. I would actually say, and
- 5:34Speaker 1: we'll get to this too. The first and second team offense,
- 5:38Speaker 1: not just the first stringers, but Tommy DeVito and the
- 5:42Speaker 1: second stringers have been lighting it up too. So I
- 5:45Speaker 1: was this close, and then we got to the two
- 5:47Speaker 1: minute really one minute, one minute, and twelve seconds on
- 5:51Speaker 1: the clock at the end of practice where each side,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Daniel Jones got to turn, Drake May got to turn,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and he throws the pick and practice. And I wrote
- 6:01Speaker 1: yesterday in my takeaways, my headline for ninety five percent
- 6:05Speaker 1: of practice was really good day for Drake May. And
- 6:09Speaker 1: then we have to talk about the interception. But I
- 6:11Speaker 1: don't want to just harp too much on the interception.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't want to ignore it either. But I thought
- 6:16Speaker 1: up until that point, I mean downfield throws to Romeo Dobs,
- 6:20Speaker 1: to aj Brown to bol tight ends. A couple of
- 6:23Speaker 1: times early on in practice, when they were doing some
- 6:25Speaker 1: of the play action stuff, I thought they had the
- 6:27Speaker 1: play action passing game really going, where they're hitting seams
- 6:31Speaker 1: and crossing routes and things like that to the tight ends.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Off of play action. A couple of beauties in the
- 6:36Speaker 1: red zone periods to Remondre Stevenson that aren't technically deep balls,
- 6:40Speaker 1: but in the red zone vertical routes out of the backfield,
- 6:44Speaker 1: to Remindre Stephenson, I really thought that he was kind
- 6:48Speaker 1: of dealing.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And then we got to the pick.
- 6:50Speaker 1: What were your overall impressions of Drake May's day I
- 6:53Speaker 1: know we were texting about this a little bit last night.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I think you said you gave it a B plus.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Was that on the crossover? Yeah? So what were your
- 7:01Speaker 1: overall impressions of Drake May and then just the offense
- 7:04Speaker 1: as a whole.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought he was really good. It all looked
- 7:06Speaker 2: really smooth. The interception at the end sucks because and
- 7:10Speaker 2: we talk about this every year. We usually do our
- 7:12Speaker 2: like how to watch training camp shot. Actually don't think
- 7:14Speaker 2: we did it this year, but yeah, the closer a
- 7:17Speaker 2: rep is to simulating a game, the most valuable it is.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So that can be are you in pads? Yes or no?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Is it eleven on eleven? Yes or no? Is there
- 7:26Speaker 2: another team there? Yes or no? Is there like music
- 7:29Speaker 2: or noise or something? Is the clock running?
- 7:30Speaker 5: So?
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yadd it all up. That one minute drill there was
- 7:34Speaker 2: one of the most valuable reps camp and they he
- 7:37Speaker 2: ended it with a pick, which sucks because he made
- 7:38Speaker 2: some good throws before. And I don't hate the idea, Like,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I don't think he made a mental mistake. He just
- 7:46Speaker 2: under threw the ball. Yeah, he gets more zip on that.
- 7:48Speaker 2: That's a touchdown. It's total pants off. So you know,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I'd be a hypocrite to kind of set these practices
- 7:53Speaker 2: up the way I do and those drills up the
- 7:55Speaker 2: way I do and not take a little more off.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But besides that, he was really good. I thought he
- 8:00Speaker 2: spread the ball well. Throw the day to Romeo Dobbs
- 8:03Speaker 2: up the sideline was a butte right, and the bread
- 8:04Speaker 2: basket had another one similar the one to Remandre, which
- 8:08Speaker 2: is one of the few times he did get pressure.
- 8:09Speaker 2: We'll get to the line a second. It was almost
- 8:13Speaker 2: take out the fifteen seconds of scrambling, and it was
- 8:16Speaker 2: basically the throw he made to Amandra in the Tennessee game.
- 8:18Speaker 2: We're just kind of fadeaway, shot, puts it right and
- 8:21Speaker 2: it just falls right into Stevenson. So liked a lot.
- 8:26Speaker 2: The one play didn't like happen to be a rep
- 8:28Speaker 2: that holds more weight, so that sucks. But yeah, I
- 8:31Speaker 2: thought he had a good day. I think if that's
- 8:33Speaker 2: kind of what you're going to get out of him
- 8:35Speaker 2: this year short of that last play, that's a great sign.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And part of that was I thought, and we had
- 8:40Speaker 2: talked about this on the last show, what do you
- 8:42Speaker 2: make of the offensive line having a really good camp
- 8:45Speaker 2: in pass protection? We'll get to the run game, but
- 8:47Speaker 2: having a really good camp in pass protection when the
- 8:49Speaker 2: Patriots edge rush in front has these questions, colts front's
- 8:53Speaker 2: good Colts have a legit front, and I again, maybe
- 8:57Speaker 2: two or three plays where Drake may would pressure, I
- 9:00Speaker 2: thought mostly up the middle. Honestly, the biggest mark I
- 9:03Speaker 2: had against the offensive line wasn't even a pressure. Because
- 9:06Speaker 2: you run twenty four plays, you're gonna get a couple pressures.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You don't expect them to be perfect. The biggest mark
- 9:11Speaker 2: I had against was Elijah Arrah Tucker at a false
- 9:13Speaker 2: start in the one minute. That kind of killed the
- 9:15Speaker 2: momentum where it was right before the interception. So obviously,
- 9:19Speaker 2: in that situation you don't want to be false starting.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But I thought the line held up very well. And
- 9:23Speaker 2: then the receivers Aja Brown was getting open, Romeo Dobbs
- 9:26Speaker 2: made some nice plays. Ramonder Stevens in a really good
- 9:29Speaker 2: day catching the football. Eli Reridan was involved, so I
- 9:33Speaker 2: thought they looked like outside of that, the two instances
- 9:36Speaker 2: in the one minute, the fall start and then the interception,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I thought, cohesively all eleven guys was a very well
- 9:43Speaker 2: rounded effort from the offense. Yeah, I accept and sorry,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and even in the run game, which has not been
- 9:48Speaker 2: good this summer, I thought they ran the ball well too.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll get to the pick in a second.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I thought the most encouraging thing is what you just mentioned, though,
- 9:57Speaker 1: is I did think in lou aner Rumo's defensive coordinator
- 10:00Speaker 1: now for the Colts, and a pretty good DC and
- 10:03Speaker 1: a pretty good schemer on that side of the ball.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You know, DeForest Buckner is a problem, Grover Stewart's a problem.
- 10:10Speaker 1: La Tu Ladu is kind of an underrated up and
- 10:12Speaker 1: coming former first round pick. He's a problem as well.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But I thought that the protection was really good for
- 10:20Speaker 1: most of the day, just like Drake May's pick. The
- 10:23Speaker 1: one minute drill was a little sloppier for the protection.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I thought Barry Tucker gave up a pressure to Buckner
- 10:28Speaker 1: early that I think probably would have been a sack
- 10:31Speaker 1: in a game if it was a game situation. And
- 10:34Speaker 1: then they I thought they gave up a little bit
- 10:36Speaker 1: of pressure on the interior on the interception as well,
- 10:39Speaker 1: So maybe it all kind of fell apart a little
- 10:42Speaker 1: bit there for them at the end. But what I
- 10:44Speaker 1: was most encouraged by was the Colts were running a
- 10:47Speaker 1: lot of pass rush fronts. You know, five six guys
- 10:50Speaker 1: up on the line of scrimmage, we're gonna drop some
- 10:52Speaker 1: guys out, We're gonna blit some guys, and you're not
- 10:54Speaker 1: gonna necessarily know where exactly it's coming from.
- 10:58Speaker 2: And the Patriots had.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I don't want to we're not really supposed to unveil
- 11:02Speaker 1: too much about the formations and stuff like that. I'm
- 11:05Speaker 1: sure they'll put it on tape in the regular season
- 11:07Speaker 1: eventually we can talk more in detail about it. The
- 11:10Speaker 1: Patriots had some things that they were doing protection wise
- 11:13Speaker 1: to give Drake May some more time against those blitzes
- 11:16Speaker 1: that I really liked, and that was one of the
- 11:18Speaker 1: things that we all were hoping to see was from
- 11:21Speaker 1: Drake May, a little bit better command at the line
- 11:23Speaker 1: of scrimmage, a little bit better handling of protections, having answers,
- 11:28Speaker 1: whether those are hots hot routes or protection answers to blitzes.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It's practice. It's not like they were really coming after him.
- 11:36Speaker 1: But I thought that they had some nice, neat little
- 11:38Speaker 1: wrinkles that they were throwing at the Colts to give
- 11:41Speaker 1: him time. You know, a couple of those plays that
- 11:43Speaker 1: we talked about that were down the field, especially the
- 11:46Speaker 1: one to Romeo Dobbs. They kind of loaded up the
- 11:49Speaker 1: protection and gave him a chance to kind of take
- 11:51Speaker 1: a shot down the field again single coverage on the outside,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and they were able to get it blocked and get
- 11:56Speaker 1: that playoff and get Romeo dobs down the field. All
- 12:00Speaker 1: those things were highly encouraging from May's and I'd just
- 12:04Speaker 1: like to see not that it's surprising from him, but
- 12:07Speaker 1: you kind of know when Drake May is hitting explosive
- 12:11Speaker 1: plays and big plays down the field that he's that's
- 12:14Speaker 1: when he's starting to feel it, right, is when he's
- 12:16Speaker 1: making downfield throws. On the interception, I think you summed
- 12:21Speaker 1: it up good. I don't think it was a bad decision.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't think it was a bad read.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Nope.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think it was an underthrow and I don't want
- 12:28Speaker 1: to overcomplicate.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It beyond that.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Maybe slightly late, and I thought that it was slightly
- 12:35Speaker 1: late because there was some pressure. They ran a stunt inside.
- 12:39Speaker 1: It looked to me like it was Michael Clemens and Buckner.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Some people had some different numbers. Things are moving fast
- 12:45Speaker 1: in the inside there, but they ran a little twist
- 12:48Speaker 1: with the tackles the defensive tackles inside, and it just
- 12:52Speaker 1: made Drake may drift just a little bit to his left.
- 12:55Speaker 1: He felt it coming from his right and he drifted
- 12:58Speaker 1: us off his spot just ever so slightly. And I'm
- 13:01Speaker 1: going to cross sports here for a second. It's kind
- 13:04Speaker 1: of like, you know how in hockey when somebody times
- 13:06Speaker 1: up a one timer, but then the pass isn't perfect
- 13:09Speaker 1: so they can they have to take it kind.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Of scratch, yeah, or.
- 13:12Speaker 1: You know like in uh, you know in soccer, where
- 13:16Speaker 1: like you know, you don't hit it on the first touch,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you kind of hit it, you catch it, then you
- 13:20Speaker 1: hit it. That was sort of how I felt like
- 13:22Speaker 1: with this one. If he had thrown it right on
- 13:25Speaker 1: time at the top of the drop, I think it
- 13:27Speaker 1: gets over the safety and kind of leads Pop Douglas
- 13:30Speaker 1: into the end zone.
- 13:31Speaker 2: But that extra little hitch that he took in.
- 13:33Speaker 1: The pocket was just enough time for Cam buying them
- 13:36Speaker 1: to kind of get deeper in where he was on
- 13:39Speaker 1: the field and get in front of the ball. So
- 13:42Speaker 1: I didn't necessarily think that it was a bad read.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I thought Pop Douglas was open, but I thought it
- 13:48Speaker 1: was going to take a good throw to get it
- 13:50Speaker 1: into the window in the back of the end zone
- 13:52Speaker 1: and it just wasn't a good throw. And I you know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: we don't need to overcomplicate it, but that's what it was,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you know, that those situations, and we saw it with
- 14:01Speaker 1: him a little bit last week as well. He threw
- 14:04Speaker 1: two interceptions in a one minute drill in that one practice.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Was that last week, right, they're all blooding together, yes,
- 14:11Speaker 1: where he threw pick to Marcus Jones, Marcus Jones undercut
- 14:15Speaker 1: a route by Kishon Boody, Mike Rabill, let them rerack
- 14:19Speaker 1: and take another shot at it, and then he threw
- 14:21Speaker 1: a pick to Kevin Bayern, right, And those situations are
- 14:25Speaker 1: part of it, Like it's not a game, but raising
- 14:28Speaker 1: the stakes as much as you possibly can in the
- 14:30Speaker 1: practice to put some pressure on you with a clock
- 14:32Speaker 1: and with the coaches to the side. Just no you know,
- 14:35Speaker 1: hands on coaching going on or anything you would like
- 14:38Speaker 1: to see next week against Philadelphia him finish the job
- 14:42Speaker 1: right and complete those anything else on Drake may I
- 14:46Speaker 1: have some other thoughts on the offense, but is on
- 14:48Speaker 1: him specifically. I think that's it all right, As I'm
- 14:53Speaker 1: dying over here. Per usual at this time of year,
- 14:56Speaker 1: the allergies. I don't know what it is. I just
- 14:59Speaker 1: get killed every summer. Let's talk about Christian Gonzales. So
- 15:05Speaker 1: he did get hurt. Hurts a big word. He did
- 15:08Speaker 1: get banged up, yep, in practice on Monday. I saw
- 15:13Speaker 1: it at the end of practice. I'm sure you did too.
- 15:15Speaker 1: He went up to contest the pass with Romeo Dobs.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Romeo Doubs caught it. Both guys went to the ground,
- 15:21Speaker 1: landed on the ground hard, and Gonzales was clearly limping
- 15:26Speaker 1: and trying to walk it off. After the play looked
- 15:29Speaker 1: extremely minor, didn't look like it was anything serious. They
- 15:32Speaker 1: didn't stop practice or anything like that to attend to him.
- 15:35Speaker 1: But he gets a little bit banged up, and then
- 15:38Speaker 1: he's not out there on Tuesday against the Colts, and
- 15:41Speaker 1: I have to mention it because it happened. Then he
- 15:43Speaker 1: posts something on his Instagram, on his social media, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: cryptic message on social media. Now we're all reading into
- 15:51Speaker 1: yesterday's absence. Is that is start of a hold in,
- 15:54Speaker 1: hold out, whatever you want to call it. Where are
- 15:57Speaker 1: you at right now with Christian Gonzalez's absence?
- 16:00Speaker 2: Really hard to know me?
- 16:00Speaker 1: You know, maybe I'm assuming Mike Rabel will get asked
- 16:02Speaker 1: about it tomorrow after the game, even though he's not
- 16:05Speaker 1: going to play in the game, it's still the number
- 16:07Speaker 1: one question with the team. And then we'll see if
- 16:10Speaker 1: he's out there on Saturday, I guess when they get
- 16:12Speaker 1: back out to practice. So we don't know a lot.
- 16:14Speaker 1: But that's what we do know right now, is that
- 16:17Speaker 1: he got banged up towards the end of Monday's practice,
- 16:19Speaker 1: wasn't out there yesterday.
- 16:21Speaker 2: So I think this could be three things. And like
- 16:23Speaker 2: you said, it's hard to know because we have the information. Look,
- 16:25Speaker 2: I heard or not, contract or not. I don't think
- 16:28Speaker 2: he would play tomorrow, like, no matter what. Agree if
- 16:31Speaker 2: Drake's not playing, I don't think Gonzalez is playing, So
- 16:33Speaker 2: that's I don't I don't think we're learning anything about
- 16:36Speaker 2: Christian Gonzalz's status unless he plays, which would be shocking.
- 16:38Speaker 1: The only thing that we might learn is that it's
- 16:41Speaker 1: the number one question right now to ask in Mike
- 16:43Speaker 1: Rabel's press conference after the game.
- 16:45Speaker 2: That's yes, that's fair. But short of that, yeah, if
- 16:50Speaker 2: he's back on Saturday or even Sunday when they return
- 16:52Speaker 2: a practice, all right, he banged up, If he's not back,
- 16:58Speaker 2: you know, then it's his the end the contract, and
- 17:00Speaker 2: then there's the other outcome where so there were the
- 17:04Speaker 2: questions of all right, you know, Gonzale, is he gonna
- 17:06Speaker 2: be out there, how much is going to participate? Okay,
- 17:08Speaker 2: it's fully participating in no pads. What about when the
- 17:10Speaker 2: pads come on? Okay, he's fully participating in a pad
- 17:11Speaker 2: of practices. The joint practices are a little bit different.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I'm not saying the Colts are going to be malicious
- 17:16Speaker 2: or anything, because I don't think that was the case.
- 17:18Speaker 2: It's actually a very clean practice. Yes to say there's
- 17:20Speaker 2: one little kerfluffle, yeah, whatever you want to call it.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I mean I think that who are the Niners with
- 17:25Speaker 2: the Broncos? Did they work? I think they had four
- 17:29Speaker 2: fights in the first ten minutes. So, I again, I'm
- 17:34Speaker 2: not putting the Colts on anything. There's just a natural
- 17:36Speaker 2: element of when you face another team, you're gonna go
- 17:38Speaker 2: a little bit harder and you maybe don't have that
- 17:41Speaker 2: element of you're gonna hold up a little bit to
- 17:43Speaker 2: protect your teammates and that sort of thing. So does
- 17:46Speaker 2: Gonzalz look at the joint practices and say, look, I'm
- 17:48Speaker 2: gonna go out here. I'm gonna compete. I'm gonna practice,
- 17:50Speaker 2: but any practice, but I it's not as controlled of
- 17:53Speaker 2: an environment. I'm gonna take a step back in these.
- 17:56Speaker 2: If he returns and then doesn't practice against the Eagles,
- 17:58Speaker 2: that would be very notable. If he doesn't return at all, well,
- 18:02Speaker 2: now you know you have an injury that we have
- 18:04Speaker 2: to worry about for the start of the season, because
- 18:05Speaker 2: that would be relevant too. I think some people saw
- 18:09Speaker 2: Greg Badard's report yesterday that he's banged up, and that's
- 18:12Speaker 2: why mispractice, Yeah, has almost kind of a relief, like,
- 18:14Speaker 2: all right, he's not starting a holdout. Well, you don't
- 18:17Speaker 2: want to be hurt either, Like that's not good. Yeah.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And then there's I don't think that if it's an injury,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I think it's very minor.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Okay, it just based off how and it could be
- 18:26Speaker 2: a little bit of both. It could be Look, could
- 18:29Speaker 2: I go out there today, maybe, but I'm not gonna
- 18:32Speaker 2: risk without a contract and that kind of thing. So,
- 18:36Speaker 2: like you said, it's really hard to know right now,
- 18:37Speaker 2: but it would be really interesting to see how he
- 18:39Speaker 2: handles the next week.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So that was my read on it, and this is
- 18:42Speaker 1: just my opinion strictly, but it felt to me like
- 18:46Speaker 1: it's a little bit of column MAY and a little
- 18:47Speaker 1: bit of column B in that if he's one hundred
- 18:51Speaker 1: percent healthy, he's going to practice. But when you're in
- 18:55Speaker 1: a situation that Gonzales is in where he's looking for
- 18:58Speaker 1: a new contract and he's in an act of contract negotiation,
- 19:02Speaker 1: the second that you get a little banged up in practice,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I can totally understand, you know, putting your foot on
- 19:07Speaker 1: the brake and saying whoa, whoa. But you know, let's
- 19:10Speaker 1: let's slow down here and not risk it. I use
- 19:13Speaker 1: the comparison as a completely different situation. But last year,
- 19:17Speaker 1: you know, the Celtics returned totally file with Jason Tatum
- 19:20Speaker 1: playing until he his CAF started to flare up. As
- 19:24Speaker 1: soon as his cat flared up, it was like, no,
- 19:26Speaker 1: we're shutting you down. We don't care if it's a
- 19:28Speaker 1: game seven, this is in game seven. This isn't the
- 19:31Speaker 1: same situation. But I think with Gonzales there could be
- 19:34Speaker 1: a little bit of that going on, where it's the.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Agent and him decide.
- 19:39Speaker 1: As long as everything's going smoothly and you're one hundred
- 19:42Speaker 1: percent healthy and you're feeling good, and your body's feeling
- 19:45Speaker 1: good practice, but the second that there's a little hamstring
- 19:49Speaker 1: poll or an ankle twist or something like that, or
- 19:52Speaker 1: we're gonna we're gonna shut it down. And I think
- 19:54Speaker 1: that that might be what happened. Now we'll find out
- 19:56Speaker 1: more on Saturday. Well, we'll see if he's out there.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Maybe we'll find out more tomorrow night after the game
- 20:01Speaker 1: of Rabel addresses it in his press conference as far
- 20:05Speaker 1: as how the practice went yesterday. For the defense, I
- 20:09Speaker 1: was focused mostly offense. I'll put that caveat on this.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I did watch the defense a little bit, and we
- 20:14Speaker 1: all watched the defense at the end, but I did
- 20:17Speaker 1: go and I like to do this with joint practices.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I read what some of the Colts writers were writing
- 20:22Speaker 1: about the practice because I think everybody always leans a
- 20:25Speaker 1: little bit positive towards the team they cover in these things.
- 20:29Speaker 1: So the Colts people felt like the outside receivers and
- 20:36Speaker 1: again no Gonzales, no Carlton Davis for the Patriots, no
- 20:39Speaker 1: Alec Pierce for the Colts, kind of a wash in
- 20:42Speaker 1: my opinion.
- 20:42Speaker 2: They didn't have their best outside guy.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the Patriots didn't have their best outside corners guys yeah, yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Josh Downs did practice against Marcus Jones, and Tyler Warren.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Was out there, Tyler Warden was very much outing. Yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 1: We'll get to that in a second. So I would
- 20:59Speaker 1: say that it was kind of hard to tell how
- 21:02Speaker 1: effective the Patriots defense was because they were down three
- 21:07Speaker 1: really important players. No Gonzales, no Davis, no Barmore. So
- 21:12Speaker 1: when you are without three of your best players and
- 21:15Speaker 1: your two years starting both your starting corners outside corners,
- 21:20Speaker 1: I don't know how much to really take away from
- 21:22Speaker 1: that from the practice from a defensive standpoint, but it
- 21:25Speaker 1: did feel, especially that last two minute drive by Daniel Jones,
- 21:30Speaker 1: it did feel like the Colts offense found some success
- 21:34Speaker 1: against the defense. Specifically, I would say Tyler Warren, who
- 21:38Speaker 1: in that one minute drill was uncoverable. I think he
- 21:41Speaker 1: got three passes, including the one that got them down
- 21:44Speaker 1: there to set up the touchdown that they scored at
- 21:47Speaker 1: the end of practice. So what did you see from defensively?
- 21:51Speaker 1: Big picture and then I've got some little picture things too,
- 21:54Speaker 1: nuggets A one.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. I didn't watch as much of
- 21:58Speaker 2: the defense just because again they especially the defense, like
- 22:00Speaker 2: the guy really wanted to watch was Akus Yeah, and
- 22:02Speaker 2: he was mostly the second year. I thought he was
- 22:04Speaker 2: good from what I saw how it would be sacked.
- 22:06Speaker 2: But the bigger thing for me, Yeah, and coverage. They
- 22:10Speaker 2: struggled in that cornerback battle. It was Prunty and Vildor
- 22:14Speaker 2: were the two that got the one minute tro but
- 22:15Speaker 2: we saw Kobe Minor mix in. We saw chanting Canada
- 22:18Speaker 2: mix in. That's one of the big things I'm gonna
- 22:21Speaker 2: watch for tomorrow night, like who from that group because
- 22:25Speaker 2: it looked like it was gonna be Prunty and then
- 22:26Speaker 2: he's kind of cooled off a little bit. Who from
- 22:29Speaker 2: that group is going to step up and win that
- 22:31Speaker 2: cornerback job.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that was my question that I wanted to facilitate with.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Now that you bring that up, well, just.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Real quick before that go ahead. My big takeaway was
- 22:40Speaker 2: the run defense. Now, look, the gold run game is sick, right,
- 22:43Speaker 2: They've got Quit Nelson. Watching Jonathan Taylor Cutt in person
- 22:46Speaker 2: is unreal. It's just it's different. He looks different. But
- 22:52Speaker 2: through the start of camp, and we were surprised by this,
- 22:55Speaker 2: the Patriots couldn't run the ball. They invested in the
- 22:56Speaker 2: run game in the offseason. They lost Kyris Tonga. Okay,
- 22:59Speaker 2: what's just going to look like? And the run defense
- 23:00Speaker 2: had been really good to this point. What happened he
- 23:02Speaker 2: have today that flip? Patriots ran the ball well. Colts
- 23:04Speaker 2: ran the ball well. So I was kind of surprised
- 23:06Speaker 2: by that. I don't know if that's the anomaly. I
- 23:07Speaker 2: don't know what the first thirteen days of the anomaly,
- 23:09Speaker 2: but that was my big takeaway from the defense was
- 23:11Speaker 2: they couldn't really stop the run.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, especially it felt like on the edges he had
- 23:15Speaker 1: had some bounces and things like that that we saw.
- 23:18Speaker 1: You know, Kenneth Walker obviously will win a Super Bowl
- 23:21Speaker 1: MVP doing Not too long ago you mentioned those corners though,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think that was that was the biggest thing I
- 23:28Speaker 1: guess defensively that you could probably take away because Kendall,
- 23:32Speaker 1: Vildor and Prunty and maybe a little bit of minor uh,
- 23:36Speaker 1: those three guys got so much run because Davis and
- 23:38Speaker 1: Gazales weren't out there. Who out of those three would
- 23:41Speaker 1: you say?
- 23:41Speaker 2: Right now? You're are you still a punty guy? Like?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Where are you at with that group right now? H?
- 23:48Speaker 2: I guess I'm still a prunty guy, but like it's
- 23:51Speaker 2: pretty open. I don't know that I'm like locking in
- 23:54Speaker 2: with any one player.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I thought Kendall Vildor had a rough week last week.
- 23:58Speaker 2: He's been better.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I think he's been better the last couple of days.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I think he was okay yesterday. But in those situations,
- 24:04Speaker 1: we know how this goes. The tie is going to
- 24:06Speaker 1: go to the draft pick. Like if they're about even
- 24:10Speaker 1: the rookie that has upside is going to win that
- 24:12Speaker 1: job over a guy like Kindaville Door is kind of
- 24:15Speaker 1: a journeyman. I did notice Elijah Ponder a couple of
- 24:18Speaker 1: times well, looking over there on the to the defense. Uh,
- 24:24Speaker 1: he kind of blew up like a boot screenplay that
- 24:27Speaker 1: I think was going to go for a big game.
- 24:30Speaker 1: He broke up the pass at the line of scrimmage
- 24:31Speaker 1: and batted the ball down and then I had him
- 24:34Speaker 1: with another pressure sack whatever you want to call it
- 24:36Speaker 1: in practice.
- 24:38Speaker 2: So I thought that he showed up a few times.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I thought Actus showed up a few times that you
- 24:41Speaker 1: mentioned really good bull rush on the left tackle. I
- 24:44Speaker 1: think it was their backup left tackle, not Raymond, but
- 24:47Speaker 1: it was still a good bull rush that I noticed
- 24:50Speaker 1: as well. A couple more things on the defense and
- 24:53Speaker 1: then we'll go back over to the offense. Tyler Warren,
- 24:57Speaker 1: Tyler Warren tore him apart. It seemed like the the
- 25:00Speaker 1: one minute drill was it showcased on the big stage
- 25:04Speaker 1: at the end there. But overall I thought Tyler Warren
- 25:07Speaker 1: kind of ate them up in this practice. Now, I said,
- 25:11Speaker 1: we said the same thing coming out of the Minnesota
- 25:13Speaker 1: practices last year that TJ. Hockinson had a big week
- 25:16Speaker 1: against In those Vikings practices, Statistically they settled down against
- 25:21Speaker 1: tight ends last year. They weren't terrible defensively against tight ends.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Do you want to go yards per game or whatever
- 25:26Speaker 1: stat you want to use passer rating, whatever.
- 25:29Speaker 2: But at the same time, we saw.
- 25:33Speaker 1: This yesterday and Warren just looked like, on a different level,
- 25:38Speaker 1: how did you feel about just them covering tight ends?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Because I think to me that's one of the things
- 25:44Speaker 1: with this defense that remains sort of enigma is I
- 25:48Speaker 1: don't really know exactly if they have one plan. Like
- 25:53Speaker 1: Bill Belichick's defenses were very clear how they were going
- 25:55Speaker 1: to cover tight ends. They had one safety like a
- 25:58Speaker 1: Patrick Chung or something like that, whose job it was
- 26:01Speaker 1: to cover the tight end. This defense, does it a
- 26:04Speaker 1: little bit more by committee. You know, sometimes the linebackers
- 26:07Speaker 1: are on the tight end, sometimes the safeties are on
- 26:09Speaker 1: the tight ends. Sometimes they're in zone. You know, it's
- 26:12Speaker 1: a different sort of defense.
- 26:14Speaker 2: How do you feel about.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Them covering tight ends right now? Because Warren definitely was noticedab.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be something to watch again. Now, Christian
- 26:21Speaker 2: Ellis did go out during that practice, and that's a
- 26:24Speaker 2: role that he would usually at least help with, so
- 26:27Speaker 2: that it comes to that caveat. But also like they're
- 26:29Speaker 2: kind of thin linebackers, so that matters. This is where
- 26:32Speaker 2: we talked about. Do we talk about last week or
- 26:34Speaker 2: two weeks ago that they're trying to find that third safety. Yes,
- 26:38Speaker 2: and it kind of seems like Dell Pettis has settled
- 26:41Speaker 2: into that role a little bit. John Saunders did have
- 26:43Speaker 2: another pick yesterday, albeit with the twos, but maybe that
- 26:47Speaker 2: guy stepping up is what helps. But yeah, it's gonna
- 26:51Speaker 2: be a question mark going into the season and they
- 26:54Speaker 2: face ends.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Yeah, they placed the Steelers right, So Patarmouth as a
- 27:01Speaker 1: good player, Your boy down Washington obviously is still in Pittsburgh.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a whole other. In Week four, Anders Bowers
- 27:10Speaker 2: at some bowers after Buffalo. Then how much you believe
- 27:14Speaker 2: in Kenyan Sadik with the Jets yea, the Bears ye Loveland.
- 27:19Speaker 2: So yeah, I know who Miami's tight end is. And
- 27:21Speaker 2: then you know if Tucker Kraft still playing in early October,
- 27:24Speaker 2: rightly November?
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, no, they they they faced a good schedule of
- 27:27Speaker 1: tight ends. So yeah, something to note. I mean, I
- 27:31Speaker 1: like I said, last year, they statistically grated out pretty
- 27:34Speaker 1: good against tight ends. It wasn't like it became a
- 27:36Speaker 1: glaring issue once they got into the season. But that's
- 27:39Speaker 1: what we saw out there yesterday. Moving back over to
- 27:43Speaker 1: the offense, a couple more notes I had on the offense.
- 27:47Speaker 2: How encouraged are you are?
- 27:49Speaker 1: Do you share in my encouragement of the progress that
- 27:52Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs is making, because I think every day Romeo
- 27:54Speaker 1: dobs looks a little bit better and a little bit
- 27:56Speaker 1: more confident of there.
- 27:57Speaker 2: It's been a little herky jerky like slow starts. Then
- 28:00Speaker 2: he had a couple good days, then he kind of
- 28:01Speaker 2: got quiet for a couple of days and he was
- 28:03Speaker 2: away for personal reason, came back, was quiet. Now he's
- 28:05Speaker 2: had two good practices again, So it's not progress isn't
- 28:09Speaker 2: linear sometimes, like AJ Brown's just been yeah, h straight
- 28:14Speaker 2: nine why equals MX plus B or whatever it is?
- 28:17Speaker 2: Like straight up, it's been a little more all over
- 28:20Speaker 2: the place for Romeo Dobbs. But again, like I said,
- 28:23Speaker 2: with the Drake May interception, that's the practice you're gonna
- 28:25Speaker 2: weigh the most. It's against another team, and it was one
- 28:27Speaker 2: of his better practices of the summer. So I'm encouraged
- 28:31Speaker 2: by that. I'm still not totally there. Like with AJ Brown,
- 28:33Speaker 2: I feel like Drake May and AJ Brown I'd like
- 28:35Speaker 2: to see a little more from the deep ball, but
- 28:37Speaker 2: kind of feel like they're good to go heading into
- 28:39Speaker 2: the regular season, like they're more or less I think
- 28:41Speaker 2: where they need to be. Certainly by this point on
- 28:43Speaker 2: the calendar. I'm still not quite there with Dobbs, but
- 28:46Speaker 2: I like the progress he's making and I'll say he's
- 28:48Speaker 2: turning the corner. I don't know that it's fully turned
- 28:50Speaker 2: to it yet, but I'll say I think he might
- 28:52Speaker 2: be starting to turn the corner.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I was encouraged by the types of routes that
- 28:57Speaker 1: he's getting targeted on. I think are slowly shifting and
- 29:01Speaker 1: maybe that's just coincidental and I'm looking too much into it,
- 29:05Speaker 1: but we talked about it, I think last week with
- 29:08Speaker 1: these are two different, very different types of players in
- 29:11Speaker 1: terms of this Z receiver role in this offense, going
- 29:14Speaker 1: from Stefan Diggs to Romeo Dobbs, like they're not similar
- 29:18Speaker 1: really at all, right, And so my whole thing was,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I think maybe this is more of a usage adapting
- 29:25Speaker 1: the role to Romeo Dobbs thing, and it was that
- 29:27Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs is not a good player, because we've seen
- 29:30Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs produce in Green Bay, so we know that
- 29:33Speaker 1: he's a solid NFL receiver. I think that this is
- 29:37Speaker 1: maybe Drake Mame, Josh McDaniels and Romeo Dobbs figuring out
- 29:41Speaker 1: each other and figuring out how to use each other.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I think in the last couple of practices we've seen
- 29:45Speaker 1: a lot more catch points stuff from Romeo Dobbs.
- 29:48Speaker 2: We've seen stuff further.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Down the field than maybe where Diggs was playing and
- 29:52Speaker 1: the areas that Diggs was playing in last year.
- 29:55Speaker 2: You know, the go ball down the sideline.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Diggs caught a few of those, but that wasn't like
- 29:59Speaker 1: a feature part of his repertoire last year.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Dobbs shook a Colt.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Defender in the end zone and red zone work yesterday,
- 30:07Speaker 1: got open at the top of the route and made
- 30:09Speaker 1: a strong catch in the back of the end zone.
- 30:11Speaker 1: The one against Gonzalez on Monday where he goes and
- 30:14Speaker 1: high points the ball, you know, kind of a corner
- 30:16Speaker 1: fade ball and he goes up and gets it. Those
- 30:18Speaker 1: are the things that I think are more in his
- 30:20Speaker 1: arsenal in terms of the strong hands, the ability to
- 30:23Speaker 1: track the ball, ability to use his size. And he's
- 30:26Speaker 1: a six foot one, six foot two receiver. This is
- 30:28Speaker 1: not Pop Douglas, right, We're not talking about a guy
- 30:31Speaker 1: who's five foot nine. So these things I think are
- 30:34Speaker 1: starting to come along with him a little bit more
- 30:36Speaker 1: and more each day. You're starting to see Drake may
- 30:39Speaker 1: trust to throw him open a little bit more and
- 30:42Speaker 1: trust that he's going to win the ball a little
- 30:44Speaker 1: bit more down the field. And look, I think that
- 30:48Speaker 1: there's some concern that I have about it because I'm
- 30:51Speaker 1: a speed guy.
- 30:51Speaker 2: You know.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I love adding speed elements to the offense.
- 30:55Speaker 2: They're going to be very.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Back shoulder, go ball over the shoulder, make a catch
- 31:01Speaker 1: and traffic. They're gonna they're gonna be a contested.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Catch team above the rim they are, and how do
- 31:07Speaker 2: we feel about that.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'm not saying that that's a bad thing. I will
- 31:11Speaker 1: admit that it. You know, I I like the wee
- 31:13Speaker 1: speed guys, I do, but that's the way I stand that.
- 31:17Speaker 2: That's the way that this looks.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Even if Kaishaon Boodi is still here, he's gonna be
- 31:21Speaker 1: a big part of that too, But specifically with AJ
- 31:24Speaker 1: Brown and Romeo Dobbs, it does feel like there's gonna
- 31:28Speaker 1: be a lot of jump balls down the field to
- 31:30Speaker 1: those guys as the big plays in this offense.
- 31:33Speaker 2: So I guess within the fast and there could also
- 31:36Speaker 2: be an element of a big d right. I will
- 31:39Speaker 2: say this. If I were building a team, which I'm not,
- 31:42Speaker 2: I probably wouldn't that that wouldn't be my focus. But
- 31:47Speaker 2: if you were gonna build a team an offense where
- 31:49Speaker 2: the plan is to play, go up and get a football,
- 31:53Speaker 2: they're built for it. Yeah, we like if If if
- 31:55Speaker 2: you have it's a J. Brown who is tall than
- 31:59Speaker 2: you and can higher than you, it's Romeo Dobbs is
- 32:01Speaker 2: kind of the same thing. Eli Raridan is massive. Yep.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Hunter Henry's a good like yeah, even we've seen Ramondra
- 32:10Speaker 2: Stevenson be really good on some contested catches. I don't
- 32:12Speaker 2: think you want a major in throwing back shoulder fades
- 32:15Speaker 2: to your running back right if he can make the
- 32:17Speaker 2: play sick and that that's kind of what they've built
- 32:21Speaker 2: is a team that's just gonna bully the crap out
- 32:23Speaker 2: of defensive backs and it's gonna be really fun to watch. Again,
- 32:26Speaker 2: I think it's it's there, aren't that. It's it's a
- 32:29Speaker 2: really tough skill. What's that stat that, like the corner fade,
- 32:34Speaker 2: it's like fifty percent of those passes to Calvin Johnson
- 32:37Speaker 2: or complete, and it's like fourteen percent or something to
- 32:40Speaker 2: every other receiver in history or something like that. So
- 32:42Speaker 2: there's been a lot of you've seen this, Like Calvin Johnson,
- 32:44Speaker 2: they used that number so extremely.
- 32:46Speaker 1: So there's a lot more like it's more the goal
- 32:48Speaker 1: line fade that that people in my mind world, the nerds,
- 32:53Speaker 1: the analytics people hate because we've done a lot of
- 32:58Speaker 1: not me personally, but there's been a lot of studies
- 33:01Speaker 1: in terms of is a goal line fade actually a
- 33:04Speaker 1: good play? And the numbers bear out that it's a
- 33:07Speaker 1: very low percent.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Calvin Johnson is the only receiver in NFL history to
- 33:11Speaker 2: catch over fifty percent of his goal line fades. League
- 33:13Speaker 2: average is thirty three percent. And that's not all they're doing.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Like we've seen them do a lot of like back
- 33:18Speaker 2: of the end zone, like run the endline, throw it up,
- 33:20Speaker 2: go up, get the ball, goalpost kind of thing. But
- 33:24Speaker 2: there's not a lot of guys that are good at that.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Usually you have one, maybe two guys that can do that.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Because there's more I don't know, Evan, would you agree
- 33:31Speaker 2: there's more speed guys than side guys playing receiver in
- 33:33Speaker 2: the NFL nowadays, or even a tight end.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I would say, like separation is such a buzzword.
- 33:39Speaker 2: There's more separation guys like bullyball guys.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like everybody's looking for separators.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Right for the most part. This is is this a
- 33:46Speaker 2: little Belichick zig when they had everybody's looking for separators.
- 33:49Speaker 2: So the Patriots go out in the market that's a
- 33:51Speaker 2: little depressed on bullyball pass catchers and they go get
- 33:54Speaker 2: some damn good ones. Yeah, and they I mean, they
- 33:56Speaker 2: still guys that can separate. Pop Douglas right in ftin Chishlm.
- 33:59Speaker 2: But that's possible.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I think that when you have a quarterback like Drake
- 34:03Speaker 1: May who's so pinpoint accurate down the field, Yeah, he
- 34:06Speaker 1: can throw receivers open.
- 34:07Speaker 2: And kind of fearless too. I don't think there are
- 34:09Speaker 2: I don't think every quarterback would want to play this
- 34:11Speaker 2: way because there's risk. Yeah, but you got to be fearless,
- 34:16Speaker 2: and Drake May is fearless, and I think that that
- 34:18Speaker 2: it can bite him at times, but it's definitely more
- 34:20Speaker 2: of a strength in a weakness for him.
- 34:22Speaker 1: When you can pull the string and throw a guy
- 34:24Speaker 1: open on a back shoulder, or you can put it
- 34:26Speaker 1: up on a platter on the back of the end zone,
- 34:28Speaker 1: or you can drop it perfectly in the bucket over
- 34:31Speaker 1: the guy's shoulder and just have him kind of shield
- 34:33Speaker 1: the catch point from the defender trying to get in
- 34:35Speaker 1: on the ball.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Rip it between two defenders. When you have.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Guys like a quarterback like that that can do that,
- 34:41Speaker 1: then these types of receivers that can win the football
- 34:44Speaker 1: down in the field when it's in the air can
- 34:46Speaker 1: be advantageous. The speed guys can be advantageous for a
- 34:49Speaker 1: deep ball thrower too. But I think that that's Drake
- 34:53Speaker 1: May has talked a little bit about being more accustomed
- 34:56Speaker 1: to throwing the bigger guys. He's talked about, you know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: joked about it probably a little bit more than it
- 35:00Speaker 1: being real, but that he used to throw to his
- 35:03Speaker 1: brothers in the backyard. All the may brothers are like six',
- 35:06Speaker 1: five they're all, giants so, he you, know he kind
- 35:09Speaker 1: of feels maybe a little bit more COMFORT i think
- 35:12Speaker 1: in throwing to bigger, bodies guys with larger catch. Radiuses
- 35:15Speaker 1: you also you don't have to be as accurate because
- 35:18Speaker 1: they can erase, accuracy, Right like they can go outside
- 35:21Speaker 1: their frame and they can catch a ball that's a
- 35:23Speaker 1: little bit inaccurate or a little bit high or something like.
- 35:26Speaker 2: That so there's all that element of it.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Too it just is something THAT i think stands out
- 35:31Speaker 1: in all these practices that that's Why Pop douglas's role
- 35:35Speaker 1: is so important in this. Offense and then the guy
- 35:37Speaker 1: THAT i want to bring up next Is Kyle. WILLIAMS
- 35:39Speaker 1: i think that's why he has a support of the
- 35:43Speaker 1: head coach and that he's going to be around is
- 35:45Speaker 1: because he just brings a different element to this offense
- 35:48Speaker 1: that these other guys that we're talking, about Like.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Booty And dobbs And brown don't.
- 35:53Speaker 1: So Yesterday Kyle williams And Tommy DeVito had a deep ball.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Connection big post route From Kyle williams split Two colts.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Defenders devido put it on a big, play walked in
- 36:05Speaker 1: for a. Touchdown it was really nice. Play divido also
- 36:08Speaker 1: HIT Matc collins on a similar route down the field
- 36:11Speaker 1: too later. On in, practice both those guys have been
- 36:15Speaker 1: humming with the. Twos for what it's, WORTH i Think
- 36:17Speaker 1: Kyle williams had been creating a lot of separation and
- 36:20Speaker 1: really hadn't been finishing.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Plays, yeah yesterday.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He finally finished. One where are we at right now
- 36:27Speaker 1: With Kyle. WILLIAMS i Think Matt, collins we know is
- 36:29Speaker 1: going to be here in some. Capacity But, WILLIAMS i thought.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Yesterday each day kind of start to see the deep
- 36:36Speaker 1: ball a little bit more and, more especially with the
- 36:38Speaker 1: more accurate throwers from the.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Veto, yeah it's going to be interesting to see kind
- 36:46Speaker 2: of what happens with that second receiver. Group i'll say
- 36:48Speaker 2: this About Kyle williams BECAUSE i think this has kind
- 36:50Speaker 2: of gotten lost in a lot of. It he's been
- 36:55Speaker 2: good with the. Twos it's not like he's with that
- 36:57Speaker 2: second unit not. Producing he's pretty regularly. Produced he caught
- 37:00Speaker 2: a deep ball touchdown, yesterday LIKE i think you mentioned,
- 37:03Speaker 2: there so, yeah but it goes back TO i feel
- 37:05Speaker 2: like the conversation we're having around, now it's actually like
- 37:08Speaker 2: a combination of two conversations we've had about these. Receivers.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Recently we did this With Afton. Chishm last. Year Fton
- 37:15Speaker 2: chisholm was very successful at what he was asked to,
- 37:17Speaker 2: do but it was with the second unit and then
- 37:20Speaker 2: when you get into the regular, season he just didn't
- 37:22Speaker 2: have a lot of time With Drake. May and, honestly
- 37:24Speaker 2: this was kind of a conversation With Kayle williams. Too
- 37:26Speaker 2: last year didn't have a ton of success With Drake
- 37:29Speaker 2: may a ton of. TIME i just stayed With Drake,
- 37:31Speaker 2: may and it's hard to be successful when you don't
- 37:33Speaker 2: have that chemistry with the. Quarterback now is when you're
- 37:35Speaker 2: building that. Chemistry the other. Thing in some, ways his
- 37:39Speaker 2: camp reminds me of like early Career Kaishan boody because
- 37:41Speaker 2: he's just very. Inconsistent he has these big pop plays
- 37:45Speaker 2: like once a, practice maybe every other, practice but you
- 37:48Speaker 2: don't really hear from a ton besides, that and that's
- 37:50Speaker 2: where things turned For Kaishan. Boody we talked about this
- 37:53Speaker 2: over the last year with It Kaijhon boody would go
- 37:56Speaker 2: and now his was more like longer. Span it wasn't
- 37:59Speaker 2: one play per, day but that's it. Was he would
- 38:02Speaker 2: have like one or two days where he was excellent
- 38:04Speaker 2: and then you wouldn't hear from him for a. Week,
- 38:06Speaker 2: yeah and it was just like, Okay like those flashes are,
- 38:08Speaker 2: great but you have to prove.
- 38:09Speaker 6: You can be.
- 38:10Speaker 2: CONSISTENT i think the thing that you might be waiting
- 38:14Speaker 2: for right now With Kyle williams consistency because he is making,
- 38:18Speaker 2: plays but there is also just some plays where you
- 38:21Speaker 2: don't really see. Him it's the, details you, Know like
- 38:24Speaker 2: that's what it.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Is it's we know he's, fast AND i actually think
- 38:28Speaker 1: he's a pretty good separator AND i think that shows
- 38:30Speaker 1: up in practice almost every single day you see him getting.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Open but for whatever, REASON i don't want to put
- 38:37Speaker 1: all of it On Kyle williams BECAUSE i think, sometimes
- 38:39Speaker 1: at least over recent, PRACTICES i don't think that he's
- 38:42Speaker 1: gotten the best ball from the. Quarterback sometimes you know
- 38:45Speaker 1: it's a ball that's underthrown or. Whatever but there's just
- 38:50Speaker 1: these little minutias in these little details THAT i think
- 38:52Speaker 1: are preventing the rest of his game from coming. Along you,
- 38:56Speaker 1: know is he always in the right? Spots is he
- 38:58Speaker 1: always you, know getting finishing at the catch point and
- 39:04Speaker 1: having strong hands and finishing through contact and those types of.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Things those are the elements that you, know take you
- 39:11Speaker 1: from just being a vertical route runner and a go
- 39:13Speaker 1: ball specialist to having a more complete repertoire where you
- 39:17Speaker 1: can play more and do more. Things but the separation
- 39:20Speaker 1: is there when he, plays he just needs to kind
- 39:24Speaker 1: of get over the.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Hump The booty comparison is not.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Bad they're different in how they, win But booty was
- 39:30Speaker 1: similar where you could see That booty could win the
- 39:32Speaker 1: ball down the, field but it was kind of, like
- 39:35Speaker 1: what else is he going to do consistently well to
- 39:37Speaker 1: blossom into a starting. Receiver Kyle williams. Is we can
- 39:41Speaker 1: see that he has, speed and we see that he
- 39:43Speaker 1: can separate down the. Field But kenny add first and
- 39:46Speaker 1: second level routes to his repertoire, details being in the right,
- 39:50Speaker 1: places things like that that would allow him to have
- 39:52Speaker 1: a bigger role in the. Offense that isn't just we
- 39:55Speaker 1: just like this matchup because it's a slower corner on
- 39:57Speaker 1: the outside versus our fast, guy and one time on A,
- 40:00Speaker 1: sunday we're gonna throw one up and see if you
- 40:02Speaker 1: can catch, it you, know right like, that that's kind
- 40:04Speaker 1: of where we're at right. Now it is what it
- 40:06Speaker 1: was last. Year if they have a specific game plan
- 40:09Speaker 1: that they go into a game with and they, say you,
- 40:12Speaker 1: know this corner ran a four to six and our
- 40:14Speaker 1: guy runs a four to. Four so just, once let's test, it,
- 40:18Speaker 1: Right let's Put Kyle williams out there and see if
- 40:20Speaker 1: you can run by the guy that that's not necessarily
- 40:24Speaker 1: a huge. Role that's a twenty five percent of the
- 40:27Speaker 1: snaps type of. Role so to see him expand the
- 40:29Speaker 1: role would be would be. Good what what do you
- 40:32Speaker 1: what are you making of this De vito? Thing obviously
- 40:34Speaker 1: there's no quarterback. Competition we're not really, silly but he's been,
- 40:38Speaker 1: really really, Good like you have to call for what it.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Is the downfield aggressiveness and the accuracy down the field
- 40:45Speaker 1: on the deep ball has been. Impressive like that's been
- 40:48Speaker 1: an explosive second team. Offense i'm kind of excited to
- 40:52Speaker 1: watch it tomorrow. NIGHT i feel like for preseason that's you,
- 40:55Speaker 1: know let's see if it translates into a game.
- 40:57Speaker 2: SETTING i would say this.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Does one of the things it helps is that they
- 41:02Speaker 1: have such a deep receiver, room so it's not like
- 41:05Speaker 1: The vito when they get to the second, Team divito's
- 41:08Speaker 1: playing With, Chisholm williams And, hollins like three guys that
- 41:13Speaker 1: we think ARE nfl, Players so it's not like he's
- 41:17Speaker 1: playing with udfas and the. Scraps he's playing with guys
- 41:20Speaker 1: that might be on this team and probably should be
- 41:22Speaker 1: on the team in some, capacity even at tight, End
- 41:25Speaker 1: like he's getting a lot Of eli rarity at tight,
- 41:27Speaker 1: end there's another guy that is blossoming and showing that
- 41:30Speaker 1: he might be AN nfl. Player so he's kind of
- 41:33Speaker 1: benefiting from the depth that they have at pass catcher
- 41:36Speaker 1: because a lot of backup quarterbacks get on the field
- 41:38Speaker 1: and they're playing with guys that aren't REALLY nfl. Players
- 41:41Speaker 1: divito's playing with guys that ARE nfl, receivers and he's shown.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Out he's been GREAT i think all. Summer, yeah he.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Really Had now something you mentioned he's with the top.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Receivers he's also essentially going against the third string, corners,
- 41:54Speaker 2: yeah because they've been without their top. Guys but, no
- 41:56Speaker 2: he's been slinging. It he really, has And i'm really
- 41:58Speaker 2: excited to watch Him Tomar AND i you, KNOW i
- 42:01Speaker 2: don't think you want him to start multiple, games but
- 42:05Speaker 2: if he has, to spots start a game for, you Like,
- 42:07Speaker 2: hettah he looks pretty. Comfortable So i've enjoyed watching. Him
- 42:12Speaker 2: it's been. FUN i think it's gonna be really fun tomorrow.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Night but we'll we'll. See like, again you hope you
- 42:19Speaker 2: don't have to see him in any meaningful.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Games is it fair to say that they have upgraded
- 42:23Speaker 1: that quarterback, room WHICH i know is funny Because Drake
- 42:25Speaker 1: may is still the, starter BUT i feel like De
- 42:27Speaker 1: veto is better Than Joshua.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Dobbs, yeah and And.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Morton's been definitely better Than Ben. Woolridge not that that
- 42:34Speaker 1: was a hot, far but those two guys Behind may
- 42:38Speaker 1: is better than what they had last.
- 42:40Speaker 4: Year.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Yeah, NO i think that's.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Fair AND i really bet the way you put it
- 42:44Speaker 1: about the spot starting look at AND i know they
- 42:47Speaker 1: didn't go super deep in the, playoffs but where would
- 42:50Speaker 1: the forty nine ers season have. Gone if Mac jones
- 42:52Speaker 1: wasn't serviceable as a backup To party right, there they
- 42:55Speaker 1: would not have made the playoffs last.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Year Kyle shanahan Needed Mac.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Johnps they wouldn't have made the playoffs last. Year we're
- 43:01Speaker 1: not going to get into a class. Thing they wouldn't
- 43:03Speaker 1: have made the playoffs last year if Mac jones hadn't
- 43:06Speaker 1: come in and played decent and gotten them some wins
- 43:08Speaker 1: When party was. Hurt that's all you could ask for
- 43:11Speaker 1: from your backup. Quarterback if the backup quarterback has to
- 43:13Speaker 1: play the whole season because the quarterback you, know It's
- 43:16Speaker 1: Tom brady IN o, eight then you're.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Screwed we all know that the season's.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Poorked but If drake may misses a game or, two
- 43:25Speaker 1: you at least feel Like josh McDaniels could put together
- 43:27Speaker 1: a game plan with the veto with those receivers that
- 43:31Speaker 1: they could be functional. Offensively so it's encouraging to have,
- 43:34Speaker 1: that you, know security with the backup. QUARTERBACK a couple more,
- 43:38Speaker 1: things and then we'll take a quick break and we'll
- 43:41Speaker 1: talk about the game On thursday. Night after the, BREAK
- 43:44Speaker 1: i just want to talk a little bit About Will
- 43:46Speaker 1: campbell in the offensive. Line, yeah BEFORE i give you
- 43:49Speaker 1: your puncher, MINUTE i don't know.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Who i'm not arguing with anybody in.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Particular this could be a total straw, man BUT i
- 43:56Speaker 1: just want to make it clear that there is no
- 44:00Speaker 1: competition going on right now Between will camb And Caleb. Blomo,
- 44:04Speaker 1: Like Will campbell has been the best left tackle The
- 44:06Speaker 1: patriots have in training, camp very. Clearly, Yeah AND i
- 44:10Speaker 1: would actually say that the, competition there's a. Competition the
- 44:14Speaker 1: competition For Caleb blomo right now is With Marcus bryant
- 44:16Speaker 1: right for the top swing.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Tackle.
- 44:18Speaker 1: YEAH I Will campbell's been, really really. Good i'm not
- 44:21Speaker 1: trying to kill the kid With Caleb. Blowmo maybe this
- 44:24Speaker 1: is a little bit of a confirmation bias on my part,
- 44:27Speaker 1: too but ULTIMATELY i don't want to hear any more
- 44:31Speaker 1: About Will campbell's being on the hot seat at left.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Tackle maybe we get into the season and he he
- 44:38Speaker 1: doesn't translate this camp into good regular season, play and
- 44:41Speaker 1: we get there eventually With Will, campbell but right now
- 44:45Speaker 1: he's looked far and away to be their best left
- 44:48Speaker 1: tackle on the, roster And Caleb, BLOMO i think needs
- 44:51Speaker 1: to worry more About Marcus bryant than he does about
- 44:53Speaker 1: Pushing Will campbell at this point yesterday was a little
- 44:57Speaker 1: bit More lowmu in the joint. Practices you put a
- 44:59Speaker 1: little bit more a stocking those and how the coaching,
- 45:02Speaker 1: staff uh. Things things are panning. Out, Clearly Caleb blomo
- 45:06Speaker 1: has the first round. Pick they have way more invested
- 45:09Speaker 1: Than Marcus bryant as the seventh round pick last. Year
- 45:12Speaker 1: so in any, Event caleb blom who is eventually going
- 45:16Speaker 1: to Surpass Marcus, bryant that's just gonna. Happen he's more
- 45:20Speaker 1: talented and they have more invested in. Him but right,
- 45:23Speaker 1: now that's a much much closer competition for the swing
- 45:27Speaker 1: tackle job Between lomu And bryan than it is Between
- 45:30Speaker 1: lowmu And. Campbell.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah, no that that's what it feels. LIKE i, mean
- 45:35Speaker 2: that's what it looks like when they're rotating the way they,
- 45:37Speaker 2: are and When Morgan moses comes, out it's It's Kayleb,
- 45:40Speaker 2: blomu but it's Also Marcus. Bryant he's getting some of
- 45:43Speaker 2: those right tackle. Reps and if it's a red shirt
- 45:45Speaker 2: ear For, lomu it's a red shirt, ear and that
- 45:48Speaker 2: that could mean that that that backup job ultimately goes
- 45:50Speaker 2: To Marcus. Bryant, so But campbell's Been campbell's been. EXCELLENT
- 45:54Speaker 2: i thought yesterday was a huge for, him just kind
- 45:55Speaker 2: of going up against some better rushers and held his
- 45:58Speaker 2: own as. Technique looks, cleaner he looks a little, stronger
- 46:01Speaker 2: he looks. Healthy he's really. CHECKED i think all the
- 46:03Speaker 2: boxes you hope he'd check coming into. This camp.
- 46:06Speaker 1: AGREED i think the two things that really stand out to,
- 46:09Speaker 1: Me and maybe it's just, health but he looks so much,
- 46:13Speaker 1: stronger like it's it's definitely, harder.
- 46:15Speaker 2: He looks he looks all bigger. TOO i don't think
- 46:17Speaker 2: it's just. HEALTH i think he's stronger than he was
- 46:19Speaker 2: when he was healthy last.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Year he looks a lot harder to walk back into
- 46:22Speaker 1: the quarterback you, know bul rushes and things like. That
- 46:24Speaker 1: he looks a lot sturdier and a lot firmer with his,
- 46:28Speaker 1: anchor AND i continue to be. IMPRESSED i think that
- 46:30Speaker 1: he really went to school in terms of the different you,
- 46:34Speaker 1: know hand, fighting pass, sets you know footwork things like
- 46:37Speaker 1: that that can he can change. UP i think if
- 46:40Speaker 1: he gets too, predictable like he did at the end
- 46:42Speaker 1: of last year with the vertical, setting that's going to
- 46:44Speaker 1: be problematic for him because of his limitations, basically so
- 46:47Speaker 1: he's going to have to really be like a, craftsman you,
- 46:51Speaker 1: Know he's going to have to be one of those
- 46:52Speaker 1: HIGH iq kind of. PLAYERS i Think i've seen a
- 46:55Speaker 1: lot more of that this summer as. Well he's been
- 46:57Speaker 1: really really, Solid and LIKE i, SAID i Think lomu
- 47:01Speaker 1: The Lomu bryan thing is. Interesting there's no doubt That
- 47:03Speaker 1: loan's more talented and the more athletic. Lineman but if
- 47:07Speaker 1: you're going sixth offensive linemen and you're going jumbo and
- 47:10Speaker 1: you're trying to run the, Football Marcus brian's much bigger
- 47:14Speaker 1: and stronger right now Than Caleb blomoo's.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Now lomu's more.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Athletic so if you're trying to you were doing that
- 47:19Speaker 1: and you want to get out and run a, play
- 47:21Speaker 1: a zone play or a toss play or something like,
- 47:24Speaker 1: that then Maybe Caleb blomu's more what you're looking for
- 47:27Speaker 1: in that. Situation but if it's like fourth and one
- 47:30Speaker 1: on the goal line and you're just trying to knock
- 47:32Speaker 1: bowling pins over and just you, know punch the ball
- 47:35Speaker 1: into the end, Zone Marcus bryan is a is a big,
- 47:39Speaker 1: dude you, know like, that that's definitely a noticeable trade of.
- 47:43Speaker 1: His SO i don't know that that's just a thought
- 47:45Speaker 1: on the offensive. Line i'm gonna see you off for your.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Punch say all the same. Too LIKE i think part
- 47:51Speaker 2: of THE lomu thing is their guard interior guard depth
- 47:56Speaker 2: still doesn't look. Great rabel, said they're gonna try and
- 47:58Speaker 2: mac guard and then they haven't done. That, yeah but
- 48:03Speaker 2: do you think he plays his FIRST nfl snaps at
- 48:05Speaker 2: guard or? TACKLE i guess take out eligible tight end
- 48:08Speaker 2: because it could be.
- 48:08Speaker 1: That SO i was thinking that as. Well we haven't
- 48:10Speaker 1: seen it. Yet rabel, said we were going to see.
- 48:13Speaker 1: It we saw it a little bit in the, spring
- 48:15Speaker 1: so they did do it a little bit more in the.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Spring my question would be which guard goes. DOWN i
- 48:23Speaker 1: could see him being the backup left. GUARD i don't
- 48:26Speaker 1: know if he's the backup right, guard if that makes.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Sense AND i know it seems, silly BUT i think
- 48:30Speaker 1: it does matter because he's already flipping sides from left
- 48:35Speaker 1: to right as it, is, yea and now you're not
- 48:38Speaker 1: only flipping, sides but you're also moving him inside on
- 48:41Speaker 1: the right. Side PLUS i Think, traditionally McDaniels has liked
- 48:44Speaker 1: a little bit more of an athletic right guard or
- 48:47Speaker 1: athletic left, guard excuse, me and a more of a
- 48:49Speaker 1: bulldozer on the right, side you, Know Vera tucker and
- 48:51Speaker 1: On winnu right like that sort of. Thing so if
- 48:55Speaker 1: they had to put it in a right guard replacement
- 48:57Speaker 1: for On, Whenu i'm not sure that that would be
- 48:59Speaker 1: the same person as the Left Barry tucker left hard
- 49:03Speaker 1: swap one more thing and Then i'm going to see you,
- 49:05Speaker 1: UP i. Promise Eli raridon thought he had another good practice.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Yesterday he. Is he is a athletic. Dude he gets
- 49:14Speaker 1: open at the top of, routes those takeoff, ROUTES i
- 49:17Speaker 1: really like seeing those from. Him he ran a crossing
- 49:20Speaker 1: route With Drake may yesterday where he outran the linebacker
- 49:23Speaker 1: and was. Open would have liked to have seen him
- 49:25Speaker 1: stay up on his feet and you maybe get some
- 49:28Speaker 1: yards after the. Catch there maybe a little bit of
- 49:30Speaker 1: on the, throw a little bit of a low, throw
- 49:32Speaker 1: a little bit of a dive By raredan that he
- 49:35Speaker 1: maybe didn't. Need but he was open a lot, yesterday
- 49:39Speaker 1: whether it's the, seams the, crossers red zone, stuff big
- 49:43Speaker 1: target down there in the end zone as. Well Tommy. DeVito,
- 49:46Speaker 1: NOW i think The colts defender probably should have picked it,
- 49:49Speaker 1: off kind of went right through The colts. Defender but
- 49:51Speaker 1: that takes a lot of focus For raredan to finish the.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Play like think of somebody flashing right in front of your.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Face you lose sight of the, ball have to re
- 50:01Speaker 1: locate the football Batch just that's not. EASY i thought
- 50:05Speaker 1: that he really showed out yesterday again and he gets
- 50:08Speaker 1: matched up on a linebacker man in the middle of the,
- 50:10Speaker 1: field he's winning that. Race you know that's going to
- 50:13Speaker 1: be a really tough.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Cover. Yeah he continues to have a really strong, summer
- 50:17Speaker 2: and again the run blocking is going to be what
- 50:18Speaker 2: puts the full picture. Together and we haven't seen him
- 50:21Speaker 2: in those situations a, ton which maybe tellus about how
- 50:23Speaker 2: they plan to use. Him. Now Tanner arkin obviously is
- 50:25Speaker 2: a good, blocker but you don't want to be predictable
- 50:27Speaker 2: by which tight ends on the. Field but, No raardin's
- 50:29Speaker 2: had a really good summer AND i thought yesterday against
- 50:34Speaker 2: ANOTHER nfl, team continued THAT i.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Can't wait to see the blocking tape from the. Preseason,
- 50:39Speaker 1: yeah that's going to be big it's really hard to
- 50:42Speaker 1: in these practices to really evaluate the line of scrimmage
- 50:46Speaker 1: unless you're zoned in on, it because there's so many
- 50:48Speaker 1: things flying around in there that you just see color
- 50:51Speaker 1: and you don't necessarily know you know who was that
- 50:53Speaker 1: fault all the time and things like. That so getting
- 50:56Speaker 1: some actual game tape from the preseason of reard and
- 50:59Speaker 1: blocking be a lot more telling for people like us
- 51:02Speaker 1: than watching practice live and trying to diagnose it in real.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Time all, right there's your punter. Minute baringer was killing it.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Yesterday he was.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Excellent he was. Excellent they did a full team punt
- 51:14Speaker 2: period the first Two roquane on the second one it
- 51:16Speaker 2: almost got. BLOCKED i didn't see exactly who was that got,
- 51:19Speaker 2: beat but it was a side With Del, Pettis Terrell,
- 51:21Speaker 2: Jennings Elijah ponder and the mdobi. iSER but after, THAT
- 51:27Speaker 2: i mean he started and they're doing full. Field he
- 51:29Speaker 2: started kicking the crap out of the. Ball i'm talking
- 51:31Speaker 2: like five point two plus second hang. Times he's covering
- 51:34Speaker 2: sixty seventy yards un here tall pinning returners to the.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Sideline and something that's cool about joint practice for everything
- 51:42Speaker 2: is you get to see like side by, Side, hey
- 51:45Speaker 2: is this impressive or is this kind of what everybody
- 51:47Speaker 2: does and not a great period For Ego bird Or
- 51:50Speaker 2: sanchez is one of the better punters in THE. Nfl
- 51:52Speaker 2: and when you look at what he did Versus, BARINGER
- 51:54Speaker 2: i mean it wasn't particularly. Close SO i Think. Barringer
- 51:57Speaker 2: he was awesome. Yesterday AND i know people are still
- 51:59Speaker 2: annoyed by the playoffs last, year and that's. Fair he
- 52:02Speaker 2: wasn't great in the playoffs last. Year down the stretch last,
- 52:04Speaker 2: year they they we thought he might bring in some
- 52:06Speaker 2: competition for. Him they sort of kind of. DID i
- 52:09Speaker 2: guess they had some tryout players in mini camps and,
- 52:11Speaker 2: rookies but no. Competition he's got to step. Up he's
- 52:15Speaker 2: in a good. Camp he's in a good. Camp that
- 52:17Speaker 2: THAT i. Mean that stuff yesterday was unrat and it
- 52:19Speaker 2: was with a live, rush so it wasn't like he
- 52:21Speaker 2: had all the day to get the ball off and
- 52:23Speaker 2: he was hammering the. Ball your plugger of the, day he.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Was he was my plugger the day.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Yesterday that's the player of, practice the player.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Right On patriots.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Beat everybody else was Like drake may or. Whatever, no
- 52:35Speaker 1: we hadn't even split yesterday with the four of, us
- 52:36Speaker 1: you picked the, punter so it Was Tommy.
- 52:38Speaker 2: Devitoft And, Chisholm Drake may And Bryce. Berenger never, Changed
- 52:42Speaker 2: you never changed your love for. Punters it WAS i
- 52:44Speaker 2: was Between may And, baringer But. MAY i Think taylor
- 52:48Speaker 2: gave it To, may so you already had. One SO
- 52:50Speaker 2: i was, like let's let's break these up a. Bit
- 52:51Speaker 2: it's been close for the. Summer by the, way there's
- 52:53Speaker 2: a three way tie in first. Place, wow between any.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Guesses Drake. May, No Drake may's in, third he's one
- 53:00Speaker 2: off the. Lead so there's three guys that have Four Drake,
- 53:03Speaker 2: mays Three, Daubs chisholm and again this is somebody else
- 53:09Speaker 2: have player of, Practice, YEAH i would, say and we
- 53:13Speaker 2: do mostly two per day BECAUSE i do one And
- 53:15Speaker 2: Brian hines does.
- 53:16Speaker 1: One, Okay so you Said gonzalez is.
- 53:18Speaker 2: No gonzalez is. One gonzalez is one of the guys
- 53:20Speaker 2: that is Four.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Gonzales my second, guest UH A. J?
- 53:24Speaker 2: Brown? NO A. J brown only is. ONE i Think,
- 53:27Speaker 2: wow one or.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Two this is interesting because you guys go deep like
- 53:30Speaker 1: you guys Are.
- 53:31Speaker 2: They're really not pick the. Punter no they're but they're really.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Not so there's some deep. Cuts in, total we we've
- 53:37Speaker 2: already had more players win one this year than we
- 53:39Speaker 2: did all of last. Year SO i Got. Gonza So
- 53:42Speaker 2: gonzo's one uh kashun booty because he had four within
- 53:47Speaker 2: like the first two days since In Pop, Douglas, yeah
- 53:50Speaker 2: he's been really. Good he had three in one day
- 53:52Speaker 2: because the crossover, Days mike And taylor do it, too
- 53:54Speaker 2: so that. Helped but those three and Then drake's right
- 53:57Speaker 2: there knocking on the.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Door, Yeah pop's been really, good and he was good again.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Yesterday all, right so that was practice. Yesterday we'll take
- 54:04Speaker 1: your calls and. Emails after the. Break we have to

- 57:57Speaker 2: because they. Didn't they. Didn't they took the ball out
- 58:00Speaker 2: of his. Hands they told. It they didn't let him.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Throw and do you remember all the throwing session That combine.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Throwing oh my, god grown men wept at the WAY
- 58:09Speaker 2: jj McCarthy threw the ball To. Combine oh, Great, Rich,

- 58:24Speaker 2: they're gonna get. Hit they're five rows up there in the.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Splash some.
- 58:29Speaker 11: It was.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Madness it was. Mad it drove me. Nuts that whole process.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Of real people call into this, show call into other
- 58:37Speaker 1: shows that you were, on people right about talk about

- 58:42Speaker 2: Drinks you people that had that take you just still Hating, michigan,
- 58:48Speaker 2: man you we didn't cheat.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Me and then going into year three for both quarterbacks
- 58:55Speaker 1: sam draft, Class Drake may has AN mvp caliber season
- 58:59Speaker 1: And Super bowl appearance AND jj McCarthy is getting bench
- 59:03Speaker 1: For Kyler. Murray, yep that's where we're. At So Victory
- 59:06Speaker 1: lap nailed that. One we don't nail them, ALL i.
- 59:10Speaker 1: DON'T i have plenty Of i've said this one That
- 59:12Speaker 1: i'm wrong, about but this, one this show was definitely.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Right we were more right ABOUT jj McCarthy than we were
- 59:19Speaker 2: About Drake. MAY I i might agree with. THAT i
- 59:22Speaker 2: like we both were very Like drake.
- 59:24Speaker 1: May we both WATCHED jj McCarthy and, said, nope, nope, nope.
- 59:30Speaker 2: We both Like Drake. MAN i don't think either one
- 59:32Speaker 2: of us thought he was gonna get this, good this.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Fast AND i think he could be AN nfl AN
- 59:36Speaker 2: mvp candidate. Eventually, yes he had that kind of. Ceiling
- 59:40Speaker 2: not right, Away, YEAH jj, McCarthy i REMEMBER i said
- 59:43Speaker 2: at the, time AND i have it, HERE i can read.
- 59:45Speaker 2: It but just sum it up like he's going to
- 59:48Speaker 2: end up a product of whatever system he gets put.
- 59:50Speaker 2: In and if he goes somewhere that is a good
- 59:52Speaker 2: coach and a good good talent around, him and you
- 59:54Speaker 2: can have a year or two to Develop he'll be.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Fine if he goes. Somewhere he has to play right,
- 59:57Speaker 2: away it'll be a. Problem he had a good set Up.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: MINNESOTA i actually thought he was gonna be okay In,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: minnesota just BASED i think O'Connell's a good. Coach they
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: have a good line Justin. Jefferson the injury probably didn't,
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: help but he needed more. Time they didn't give it to.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Him they should have Kept Sam darnold and, waited but
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: they had to play him because he's a first round.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Pick but he should never have been a first round.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Pick do you? Want do you want my? COMPS i
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: found my comps that are and this is ninety eighty
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: five at sports sub dot. Com this is out. There
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: i'm not making this. Up, Yes um STRENGTHS nfl quarterback,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: frame but we'll need to grow into. It athleticism should
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: allow him to be a factor with his, legs throw
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: us well on the, run can throw from multiple arm.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Angles turned twenty one In, january plenty of time to
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: develop all true, weaknesses and experienced twenty eight, starts fewest
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: among the, project the top one under. Quarterbacks what's The
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Bill parcells? Rule the thirty five? Starts, yeah something like.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: That it maybe had that, number but it's. Okay it's
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: notable wasn't asked to do much in the context Of
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: michigan's star studded. Offense, okay that entire offense might have
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: sucked outside of it was the tight END A. J, Barner,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: yeah but actually is, inconsistent doesn't always read the field with,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: conviction can sit the ball when, needed but doesn't havever
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: liable touch pass player comparisons ceiling ceiling rock.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Party, yeah there's a. LOT i had brought party. Too
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: that was that was the hot.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Name, yeah Middle Marcus mariota spots. Starter you don't feel
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: like later in his career when he's kind of got.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Took The titans to the playoffs one, year, right it
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: was the year Before vrabel got.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Hired As, yeah that team was stacked, Though i'm just saying, you,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: no he. DID i was thinking more like Current, mariota
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: where like clearly being in THE nfl for ten years
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: has helped them and if you need him to start a,
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: game like kind of Like Tommy, DeVito he even start
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: again field gay. FLOOR i was. PROUDEST i remember saying
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: this On Felgrim. MAZ i remember SAYING. J. J McCarthy
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Is Zach wilson waiting to? Happen and what.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: HAPPENED i Think Zach wilson was more talented and more arm,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: talent for, sure they're.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Similar he maybe was better at some things McCarthy wasn't
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Quite Zach wilson had no idea what he was looking.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: AT i THINK. J. J McCarthy's football like he was
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: a little better Than Zack, wilson's but they both. Sack So,
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: hey real quick bottom. Line if you feel strongly about
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: McCarthy's standing as a prospect one way or the, other
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: you're probably kidding. Yourself there's just not close to enough
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: high impact reps on tape to fully evaluate where he's
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: at as a player relative to the other. Quarterbacks he has,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: upside especially with his young age and, athleticism but needs
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: time to. Develop whatever team drafts him will need to
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: have a strong development plan in. PLACE a team that
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: has a veteran read old, starter but we'll need a
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: new quarterback in a year two would be the best
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: landing spot form setting up A Patrick Mahomes Jordan love
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: type development. Path if he has to start right, away good.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Luck, YEAH i mean we wrote similar. Things, yeah this
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: is WHAT i WROTE i feel like On patriots Dot.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Com it's.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: FUNNY i this popped.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Up because people are SEARCHING jj McCarthy so, much and
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: this was the bottom line THAT i. Wrote the third
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: overall pick should have the potential to carry the team
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: to the winner circle on his, back and it's hard
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to envision that being. McCarthy i remember saying that was
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: the biggest thing was, LIKE i thought that if he
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: was a, passenger if he was a game, manager just
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: like he was At, michigan make a couple of throws
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: and key situations and you, know in clutch times and
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: things like, that that he would be fine as AN
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: nfl quarterback over the long. Term, NOW i was actually
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: probably a little bit too high on.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: HIM i was going to, say we might have overrated.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Him we might have also just been hedging our.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Bats, Yeah BUT i think what the biggest thing was
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: IS i use the comparison That Daniel jeremiah uses all the.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Time, yeah are you a bus? Driver you're a.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Passenger, Right AND i never SAW i always thought that
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: those the big Three Williams daniels may could all be bus.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: DRIVERS i never saw that with.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: McCarthy i always saw McCarthy was going to be a you,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: know a game.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Manager AND i said this at the, time And i'll
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: say it. AGAIN i said With Tye simpson this past,
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: year who's not having good start? Camp i'll set this
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: is more about THE, Nfl, well then it is about
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: JA j. Mcart it sounds like we're taking pot shots
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: AT jj, McCarthy.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Like i'm taking pot shotts at people that thought they
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: should have drafted him over.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Drinks well in that, INCREASE i said this the whole.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: TIME J. J McCarthy is a Textbook day two. Pick
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: there's some fun, tools but there's just not nearly enough
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: to know that guy should be a second round. Pick
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: maybe maybe BECAUSE i mean to an, Extent Lamar jackson
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: kind of fit That bill and The ravens took him
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: what thirty one and they Had Joe flacco and like
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: they could afford to take that risk back into the first.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Round LIKE i thought he made a ton of sense
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: FOR i forget if we Knew Aaron rodgers was gonna
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: be on The steelers at this, point but like whatever
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: team ended up With, rogers just having him kind of
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: FOLLOW i thought made sense because you're gonna have a
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: year or two, There like that's what he. Was that
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: guy should be viewed as A day two, pick and
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: the league gets head over heels for these guys and
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: runs them. Up and if J ja McCarthy was the
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: second or third round, pick he's not viewed as a.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: Bust even if he's not very, good he doesn't become
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: what's kind of the whole nine. Thing him becoming a
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: punchline's unfair to. Him the same, thing by the, way
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: is gonna happen With Tye simpson and so and it
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: and uh it. Uh Anthony richardson's another. One, yeah SO
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: i Liked Anthony richardson. More he was not a top five.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: But the physical tools Of Anthony richardson were, insane are.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Insane, yeah they were in no. Level but it's it's
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: again like the league. Does and some of it might
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: be that's, football you, know tough ass that that is
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: what it. Is but the league needs. You you always
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: bring UP i remember when we did the twenty four
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: draft and even someone talking about Mac jones in twenty,
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: three Like Russell wilson in the third. Round, Right, yes
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: that doesn't exist. Anymore the league has stopped the quarterbacks
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: from falling through the, cracks the good quarterbacks and falling
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: through the cracks and how many starters in THE nfl
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: right now really were not first round, picks like quality.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Starters Rock purty might be the one. EXCEPTION i don't,
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: think first of, all do you still feel that way
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: that the league has so fallen through the, Cracks because
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: THEN i guess.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: So my take on, this, though is kind of actually
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: more about college. Football so IF i WAS jj, McCarthy
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: AND i get THAT jj McCarthy won a national, championship
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: was getting told he was going to be a top ten,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: pick it's hard to turn all that, down especially when you,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: accomplished you reach the.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Top of the mountain in college.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: Already, yeah that being, SAID i think it's a lot
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: more advantageous now for guys to stay at, school, absolutely
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: especially with nil and so you're already getting paid because
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: the reality is is that THE nfl doesn't have time to.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Wait THE nfl is not going to wait three years
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: for their first round quarterback to figure it. Out it's
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: just not going to happen.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Anymore you could argue maybe they should one hundred.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Percent BUT i, think what's, more it used to be
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: that and it still. IS i would say at other,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: positions and you, Know i'm a little bit of an
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: age just when.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: It come to the.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Draft it used to be being an older prospect was, bad,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: right because it means that you're tapped out, physically and
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: you're your ceiling is, lower and so, YadA YadA, YadA
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: like you kind of are a finished. Product but NOW
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: i think that as a young quarterback you have to
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: stay at school and develop in. College, yes because in
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: THE nfl has given you one year max to sit
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: one year max and then and when you play your
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: second year you better play.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Well but that's because and so this goes to WHAT
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: i was going to say to you, again you have
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: the theory that you can't really get starting quarterbacks after
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: the first round anymore because the league just doesn't let
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: The Jalen hurts is in the in the The Russell wilson,
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: slipper LIKE i think.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: A handful of years, ago AND i, KNOW i Know
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: i've been critical of this, player but a handful of years.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Ago Bo nix is like a third Round so, Okay
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: but HERE'S i.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: Don't think that's THE nfl suddenly figuring out the quarterback.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: POSITION i think what's happened is you've had an over.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Correction the other way they just draft all the quarterbacks
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: in the first, round so you don't have guys slip
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: through the cracks. Anymore but we still had days of
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Like jake Lock no do you Remember Christian. Noonder i'm
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: talking about the last few, Years like remember what happened
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: in twenty Four and this was kind of my take
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: leading up to the, draft and it bear it. Out
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: there were no quarterbacks from the second to fifth. Round
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: it was take them, earlier take them. Late you don't
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: take them in the, middle because the guys that would
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: go in the middle teams now instead take. Early AND i,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: think and it's hard to, say just be patient. Quarterback
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: i've been staunchly against. That if you believe a guy
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: is the, guy you take. Them BUT i also think
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: if that is going to be what, happens you need
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: to start treating quarterbacks taken outside of the top five
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: like day two. Picks the reason teams don't give the
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: rest of.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Those guys have grades like day two. Picks they just are, quarterbacks.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Right the reason teams don't give quarterbacks time anymore is
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: because your first round. Pick they're treating guys who shouldn't
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: go in the first round like first round picks and
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: they're taking them in the first round because they don't
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: want to risk not getting a quarterback at. All said,
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: this the unveil is a patience problem when it comes
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: to quarterbacks and, coaches but that patience extends to they
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: can't wait and see if they fall in the draft.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: AGAIN jj McCarthy should have been the, guy maybe maybe
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: back into the first round two team with an older,
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: quarterback probably second. Round if he's a second or third round,
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: pick he can sit a couple of years Like Jalen hurts, did,
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Right BUT i.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Think the bigger thing IS jj McCarthy should have gone
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: back to school and if it was all, right if
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: it wasn't At michigan Because harball left and you know
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: that program was turning over now with nil on the
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: portal to go someplace, else, Right AND i THINK i
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: get it was just The hall Of fame, Game But
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Carson beck played really really well the other. Day Carson
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: beck did. That he just stayed in.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: College and he didn't go very high but but he
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: stayed in college and he developed in.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: College that's. Fair, Yeah Jaden, daniels you, Know Jayden daniels
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: is a five year college. Player Bo nicks was a
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: five year COLLEGELAYER i think might have been a six
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: year college player one of those. TWO i forget which
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: one it, Was SO i think that's where we're.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Headed so there's some of. That but also, AGAIN i
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: just think teams need to look at, All, right we
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: drafted this quarterback fifteenth, overall but you can't treat them
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: like you would treat the fifteenth overall pick at tackle,
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Teams but they're not gonna get. PATIENT i don't, KNOW i,
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: know but then this is gonna keep. Happening And, okay
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: there's less quarterbacks falling in, there like there's less guys
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: falling through the. Cracks it's because they're just gonna draft
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: everybody and it's either gonna work out and it's good
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: or it's gonna. Not they're not gonna. Wait and actually
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: teams went, from, WELL i don't want to risk a bust,
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: pick So i'm going to be patient on taking quarterback
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: and maybe a good player, falls but at LEAST i
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: don't blow it to, oh there's a quarterback on the, Board,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Yeah i'll take them and we'll see what. Happens and
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: he might be a, bust but not like it hap
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: the last few years LIKE i just named a bunch of.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Them LIKE i, Know Jake locker is always the poster
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: child for, this but Like Jake, Locker Christian, ponder you,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: know like all those.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Quarterbacks are growing. Up here's the. Difference here's The Jake
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: locker had. There there's a difference between a guy that
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: looked like a legit first round player and busted versus
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: the guy who ker looked like a.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Legit he looked like one like, physically but so.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Did he was a good college. PLAYER i MEAN. J.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: J McCarthy was a decent college but he.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Wasn't that was the whole. Point he.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Wasn't he literally won a national championship doing. Nothing, okay
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: But koram won a national. Championship he's still like he
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: was still. BETTER i would, say there's a different the
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: ONE i always go back. To this is a quarterback development.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Problem like this is not a drafting. Problem the league
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: does not have.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Time it's a little bit of where the league where
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: you draft the guy impacts his development, timeline and they're
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: not giving these guys the proper development timeline because they're
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: not ever going To so, You, okay that's, fit but
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: then you you either needed one or two things has to.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Change you either need to change or you draft these,
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: guys or you need to change the development. Timeline and
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: if you're not going to change, either the most quarterback
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: draft picks are going to continue to. Bust the ONE
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: i go back, to, though and here's where the. Differences
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: and thank goodness we weren't covering the draft, then BECAUSE
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: i would have had some horrible. TAKES i don't know
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: how much you've Watched JaMarcus russell At. Elisu you are.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Unreal you take that guy first overall ten times out of,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: ten but his issues were off the. Field but this
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: is What i'm. Saying there's a difference between this guy
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: was drafted in the first round he didn't pan out
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: because of, something versus this guy should have never gone
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: in the first round in the first. Place AND i
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: feel like in the last five or so, years Maybe
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Jake locker With Jake lockers like fifteen years ago.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Now and that was a long time.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Ago we're getting. Old it felt like for a long,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: time the majority of quarterback busts WERE i understand why
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: this guy went in the first, round BUT x. Happened
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: andy sucked right in the last five or so. Years
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: maybe it's closer to, ten BUT i feel like the
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: trend has shifted Towards, oh this guy should have never
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: been a first round pick and it's not a surprise
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: that he was a. Bust AND i don't think that's
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: a good trend for THE.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: NFL i would just, SAY i think, we're you, know
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: saying different things the same. Way IF i was a
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: quarterback in college right, NOW i would take agency of
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: my own, development AND i would understand that ONCE i
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: get to the, LEAGUE i better be ready to. Play
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: SO i think and play well BECAUSE i think there's
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: gonna be fewer and Fewer Caleb williams is And Drake.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Mays so you're campaigning For i'm.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: CAMPAIGNING i. WOULD i, would especially now that you can
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: get paid in. COLLEGE i would sell a quarterback that
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: is THE jj McCarthy that isn't quite ready but has
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: some tools and maybe has some the. Potential stay in.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: School so you have to transfer to go to a different,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: program do, it but stay in. School Who's indiana's quarterback
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: now that's Replacing. Mendoza, oh this is your.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Spot like him. Too he's a good. Player, yeah he
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: was someplace else before and he transferred and now he's
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: taking over From.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Mendoza Josh HOOVER tcu kid really talented, kid has a good,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: arm HAS nfl caliber, traits but he's not, ready so he's.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Transferring here's the problem with that, IS i think it's.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: Real even in THE nil, era it's really hard at
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: any position when a kid sees he's going to be
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: a first round pick to tell him to go back to.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: School Now hoover was going to be like a third round.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Pick Carson becker is gonna be a third round. PICK
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: i think for those, guys it's, easy AND i think
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: most of those guys are doing. IT i think that's
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: part of the reason the middle class of quarterbacks doesn't exist,
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: anymore because if you're gonna be a third round pick at,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: quarterback a lot of those guys are going back to.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: School they, should SO i think some guys doing. That
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: what's tough is when the league needs a quarterback in
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: the first round and you're just the guy by, default
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: even if you're not a first round. Talent it's then
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: it comes. In then it becomes a lot harder to,
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: say all, right your third round, talent but you're probably
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: gonna go in the First it's really hard to tell
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: that kid to go back to school because what if
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: he keeps playing on the third round talent and the
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: next year there's more. QUARTERBACKS i understand it's really. Hard,
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: NOW i will say to your, point AND i, say
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: it's hard to. Do Dante, Moore Dante moore was gonna
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: be a second quarterback off the. Board nobody knows exactly
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: why he went back to. School my theory he didn't
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: want to play for The. Jets he knew what was
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: going to. Happen and what you might see guys do
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: it might not necessarily be About i'm not. Ready you
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: might see guys take the approach of the teams that
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: realistically are gonna pick me aren't ready for. ME i
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: don't trust these teams at the top of the draft
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: to develop. Me i'm going to go back to school
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: and hope next year like there and, now The jets.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: Didn't but if you didn't trust The, raiders, right all,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: right Let fernando go To. Vegas i'm gonna go back
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: to school and hopefully next year the team at the
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: top pick has a better. Situation you might see some of.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: That there's always going to be early breakout players Like
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Drake may And Cale, williams but there are a lot
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: more players that aren't ready that Young and going back
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: to the college, game, now if you have to go
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: in the, portal going in the, portal using nil to
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: make money in the meantime and developing at a slower,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: trajectory because once you get to the, league it's not
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: only the fact that they're impatient with the, quarterbacks they're
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: impatient with the.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Coaching they're impatient with THE. Gms so In, Minnesota kevin O'Connell.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Is a really good. Coach yeah he, survived THE gm
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: did no THE.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: Gen if they have a rough, year the heier O'Connell
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: is going to be on.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: The hot THE gm that Let Sam darnold And Daniel
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: jones walk the. DRAFT jj McCarthy got, fired which he
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: probably should. Have so that's the way that the league
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: is looking at. It you have two. Years you maybe
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: you sit the first year and you play the. Second
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: maybe you sit halfway through the first year and, play you,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: know a year and a, half but you have two
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: years to prove to THE nfl that you're AN nfl starting.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Quarterback and if you don't do it in that window,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: AGAIN i just it's.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: OVER i think for the guys that are projected to
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: go On day two or even day, three like some
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: of the guys that went On day three this year
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: were probably not draftable players in most. YEARS i just
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: feel like if you're it's it's really hard to.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Do but you have to look at the bigger. Picture
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: it's two years in the. League by going younger and
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: going at twenty two or twenty, one you you have
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: two years in the league and flame, out or you
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: can continue to develop in college and maybe have a
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: tenure in.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: It it's just really hard when you have somebody Like
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: Anthony richardson is a perfect. Right but even if he
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: knows he's not, Ready hey, man teams think you're. Ready there,
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: team there are teams that will take. You just watch
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: The colts practice. Yesterday he's their third. Time but it's
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: he didn't know. That he doesn't know he's gonna Be he, doesn't.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Okay but that's the perfect example of a guy that, had,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: yes like one season worth of starts was raw needed.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Development LIKE i now that you get paid in colleams.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Are telling them that if you're for so many of,
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: them it's just about the. Pick it's not about the
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: long term. Career AND i guess you're saying that mentality
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: needs a. Chase if if your top five, pick what
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: going back to college can only hurt you in ters
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: that in terms of, That but that's what the focus.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Is stress the bigger? Pick what is it? Bigger what
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: is a? If what is a bigger loss of? Player
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: you're unsure of, yourself but you have a chance to
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: go top. Ten you either go to the league and,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: bust but, hey you were top ten. Pick by the,
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: way if you're a top ten, pick you get to hang.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Around Anthony richardson's career is not. Over he's gonna go
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: somewhere and be a. Backup Then i'll probably go somewhere
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: else and be back. Up they'll probably Go we'll try
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: to do ideally The Baker mayfield, thing but if, not
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: even The Gino smith. Thing is that worse than we
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: think your top five. Pick you should go to the
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: draft even if you don't feel you're. Ready, okay Well
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: i'm gonna go back to. School turns out you weren't.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Ready now you're a fifth round, pick and now you
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: might be out of the league in four years because
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: that's the other side of. That maybe if you're a,
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: threat if you come to the league and you're, Better,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: yeah because you've.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Developed maybe you, know the tape isn't, perfect but you've.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Developed like, again it's just The hall Of fame. Game
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: but what If Carson beck actually took that time and
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: made good use of it and is now going to
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: be a better player in THE nfl than he would.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: THINK a lot of guys are going to tell themselves
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: they can get better in the. League you.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Can't that's What i'm trying to tell. You, So lauren's
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: not the practice time doesn't, exist the reps don't, exist
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: the patience doesn't. Exist, like they don't have enough time
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: to develop quarterbacks at this level.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: Anymore, well this is why they need a minor. League
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: and there's a whole other, conversation but the minor league
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: is the college football is the Min they need a
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: REAL nfl minor.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: League different it's you just your sport just started paying.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Athletes nil.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Exists now college football is the Minor i'm talking about
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: that RUNS nfl concepts WITH nfl, coaches that works on
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: AN nfl. SCHEDULE i don't know another.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Conversation i'm just telling you that they should stay. In
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: it's gould have been.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: Really hard to tell. It and this is bearing out
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: for guys that are not top ten. Picks the guys
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: that have a chance to go top ten is going
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: to be really hard to go away from. That Dante. Moore,
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: look it's a copycat. League it is going to be
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: fascinating to see WHAT i With Dante. Moore If Dante
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: moore AND i Like Dante, MOORE i Think Dantey moore
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: is a good. PLAYER i had him Behind, mendoza but
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: he was like that.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: Like A manning, family like, manipulation and.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: There there's a little bit to, that like this isn't
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: a fully Lime, maning but it's a partial Elime.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Manning.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Yeah but If Dante, moore as a projected top five,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: pick goes back to, school has a good, year now
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: he didn't, transfer but goes back to, school has a good,
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: year goes top five in the, draft and its, successful
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: it is going to be a lot easier to sell
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: in the future what you're. Pitching If Dante moore.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Has it less about my thing is a little bit
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: less About Dante.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: MOORE i know it's not About, dante more about The
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: but But Josh hoover is not a comp for, that
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: because the guys that Are Josh hoover are doing what you're.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Saying But Josh hoover was not a first round. Pick
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: Josh hoover the, date But i'm telling you the day
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: two picks have already been convinced to do. This But
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: Josh hoover is, like, yes, YES i, heard surprise. Me,
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: guys like becomes the first round, pick becomes a BETTER
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: Nfl this is What soresby was trying to. Do, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: yes so you know what you're supposed to. Do, no
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: what do you tell the kid who HAS nfl teams
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: telling him he's going top? Five it's. Different it's just
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: a different. SCENARIO i, GET i get what you're. Saying
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: so that's the one that's. Now, Yes more stayed for
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: a different, reason But more is going to be the
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: test subject for top five pick goes back to. School what, Happens.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Well the other one is going to be In texas Like.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: ARCH i just don't Think arch are. Good, okay but
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: what If arch has a good year this? Year so,
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Okay arch is part of. It two and and.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: His name and all, that like he's going to be
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: told that he's going to be a first round pick
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: based off of how he played last. Year he's nowhere
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: near realm like maybe he will take that huge.
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: Leader So arch is another, one and you know, what
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: you can kind of throw your door in. There we
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: thought was going to come. Out we thought he was
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: gonna come out of The Drake may class and he.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Didn't now that one's different because he might have not
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: come out because that class was so strong because he
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: was gonna the Lower But dante school, Kids Dante moore
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: And arch are going to be the test subjects for
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: this because If Dante moore goes back To oregon and
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: is kind of AND i don't think it's gonna, happen
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: but if he goes back To oregon is kind of
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: men it ends up being like a second or third round.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: Pick everybody's gonna look at that and being, like you
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: won't BE i know he, won't But i'm just saying
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: if it, is everybody's gonna point at him and, say
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: that's why you go to the league when you have a,
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: chance you have a chance to be a first Round.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: He won't go because if he balls out early, though
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: because like he had the year last.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: Year it's it's a little bit Like Drake.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: May Like Drake may's best college season was his sophomore,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: season not his junior. Season, well so he's still based
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: off the sophomore year. Tape he was still drafted In
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: arch Two arch, too, right Like Dante more is going
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: to go in the first how About.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: Arch arch had a chance to go. High and you
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: know there might be people say that's why you go
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: be a first time.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Picking IF i Was, arch IF i Was Papa, MANNING
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: i would say stay in, school which he.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: Did.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Well he couldn't have come out last, year.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Right, yeah last year was his retort sophomore year WAS.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: I thought he was draft wasn't draft eligible until this, year,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: Regardless LIKE i would tell Our joe if he truly wasn't,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: READY i.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Know he was a retort sophomore last. Year he could
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: have come out last, Year, Okay SO i WOULD i
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: would still tell him to, say but these are going
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: to be the guys that, again, regardless if he's getting
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: advised by the right, people like people that played in the. League,
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: well it's a different. Reason AND i Like Dante moore
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: AND i Like. Oregon we were talking about this the other,
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: DAY i think this Is Dan lannings. HERE i think
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: that team's gonna be. Sick but quack THE i think
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: some of the reasons these kids come out is there's
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: nobody you can point to and, say, hey he was
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: a top five, pick turned that, down went back to
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: school and was still okay you somebody has to do.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: That for the only guy THAT i can think, of
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: and this is going back, away this IS mi, Guy Andrew.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: Luck i'm pretty Sure Andrew luck went back to. SCHOOL
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: i think he could have come out of his junior
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: year and he went back to. School and that's just.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: Such a different. Era you can't really relate that To
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: i'm trying to find.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: It i'm more talking about the the The, hoover's The Carson.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Beck so, again those those, guys but those guys already
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: are staying in.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: School, yeah SO i don't, know BUT i understand. That
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: BUT i think that that is going to become.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: But they're not in THE jj McCarthy.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Cory but my point is IS i think that that
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: is going to become more to.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Bring it, back but it. Is it's not because it
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: is more. Popular And Andrew luck came out as soon
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: as he could come.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: OUT i thought that he stated an extra.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Year, no they IF jj McCarthy had been viewed as
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: a third round pick in the, league wasn't telling him
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: we're going to take in the top. Ten AND i
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: know he went a little after, That but.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: No he did go top?
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: Ten oh was he? Ten?
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Okay, no he went like. SEVEN i might be thinking a. Bonitt,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: NO i thought he went. Ten pennix went. SIX i
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: think he went no because he, no he went After.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Nicks there were he did not go after. That he
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: went tenth, exactly but he did.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: Not, oh you're, Right you're right he. Did he went
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: tenth exactly if he didn't have the. League if If
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: Josh hoover was, hearing hey, man this quarterback class kind of.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Sucks After, mendoza we might take you in the top.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: Ten do you still Think Josh hoover would have transferred
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: To indiana or do you think he would have gone
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: to the. Draft he probably would have gone to the, draft,
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: right But i'm telling him he should have transferred To.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: Indiana but he's gonna turn him into a better. PLAYER
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: i don't know why you. Understand it's a different. CONVERSATION
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: i understand it's a different. Conversation i'm, saying change the.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Conversation they are going to waste time developing you in the.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: Nfampaign it's not gonna happen you're campaigning. For its already
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: happened the.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Fringe What i'm campaigning for is that it's not a
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: bad thing to stay and cous not your.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: Development but how do you convince you're getting really bogged?
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: DOWN i know we. Are this is actually a fun.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Conversation it is not that fun. Anymore how it was
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: fun like ten minutes. Ago but, No but to bring
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: it back to the, point if the league hadn't been
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: TELLING jj McCarthy he was gonna go top, ten, yes
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: he probably would have stayed in, college maybe a, transfer maybe,
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: not and none of this.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: Would be LIKE jj McCarthy should take agency ownership in
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: their own development and RECOGNIZE i am not ready for the.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: LEAGUE i can still make money in, college maybe not
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: the same amount of money as THE, nfl But i'm
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: still geking, millions and the.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: Guys that are going to be day two picks are
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: doing that.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Well the guys that are going to be friend how
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: und it's how do you convince the guys that you
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: know they're going top ten to do, it because right,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: now because you're going to BE jaj, McCarthy you're going
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: to flame. Out and SO i don't whoop you do?
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: WHAT i think they need to Be richardson whooped you?
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: DO i think pointing to guys that failed in doing
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: that is not going to work because any call. It
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: we know how confident quarterbacks. Are you have to be
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: confident play that. Position he's going to.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: Say somebody is every once in a while to be
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: told that you need you need a dantem all the.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Time you need A Dante moore who did. It it's
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: not about the guys that. Failed you need to point
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: to that path succeeding if you want the if you
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: want this to work, out all eyes On Dante moore
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: a go BECAUSE jj McCarthy should have never been the top.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: Tape wasn't he as good As Dante, moore's.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: But he was still told he's gonna be top ten.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: Day But Dante moore last year the issue better than
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: J jj McCarthy told he was going to be a
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: top ten pick when his tape didn't warrant. It good.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Question that's the issue that is the. Issue that's how it's.
- 1:27:02Speaker 9: ALL J.
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: J McCarthy should have been used as a third round
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: pick and he should have Been Josh, hoover but he,
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: wasn't and that's the.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Problem, okay we came full. Circle are you satisfied?
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: Now? Yes, okay can we take some of these calls?
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Now i've been waiting for an hour and a half on,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Hold patty's an, aguaham what's Up?
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: Patty?
- 1:27:20Speaker 10: Guys Somewhere Tommy kurrn is weeping about that conversation ABOUT.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: JJ i knew it was going to come off that,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: way AND i didn't want it to come off that.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: Way it was not a shot directly At.
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: TOM i. Promit, no we had a good philosophical football
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: debate that we can revisit in twenty years once The
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: patriots need a new. Quarterback hell.
- 1:27:37Speaker 10: Yeah so a couple of, things and Then i'll end
- 1:27:39Speaker 10: with the. Question first, THING i wanted to pick a
- 1:27:41Speaker 10: victory left BECAUSE i did come on this program and,
- 1:27:44Speaker 10: said once the pads go, ON i think we're going
- 1:27:46Speaker 10: to see a DIFFERENT Aj. BROWN i think we. HAVE
- 1:27:50Speaker 10: i mean it hasn't been LIKE i, mean he hasn't
- 1:27:53Speaker 10: been like earth shattering or. Anything like, That BUT i
- 1:27:56Speaker 10: think he's been a hell of a lot better with
- 1:27:57Speaker 10: the pads on than the first few days of. Camp
- 1:28:00Speaker 10: it could be, familiarity BUT i think a lot of
- 1:28:02Speaker 10: his physical play warrant and playing great with pads. On
- 1:28:07Speaker 10: the second, THING i got a little bit of a,
- 1:28:09Speaker 10: rent and it's regarding The Christian gonzales contract. Situation can we?
- 1:28:13Speaker 10: Can can we just pony up and pay the, Guy Mister,
- 1:28:16Speaker 10: kraft if you're, LISTENING i don't care if he wants
- 1:28:18Speaker 10: to set the. Market look at what the edge market
- 1:28:20Speaker 10: did last. Year Miles garrett had an apy of forty
- 1:28:24Speaker 10: one point six when he signed his, deal right and
- 1:28:26Speaker 10: what happened before before anything happened like with the. Aotas this,
- 1:28:30Speaker 10: Year Will anderson shattered it with fifty mil per year
- 1:28:34Speaker 10: average annual. Value so LIKE i JUST i don't want to.
- 1:28:39Speaker 10: HEAR i don't want to keep. Hearing we want to
- 1:28:40Speaker 10: be a draft and developed, team and then we draft this.
- 1:28:43Speaker 10: Guys are we developing them for other? Teams put your
- 1:28:46Speaker 10: money where your mouth. IS i, mean look at look
- 1:28:49Speaker 10: at the. Teams how are teams like The rams and
- 1:28:52Speaker 10: The eagles able to pay like a boatload of money
- 1:28:55Speaker 10: to all these, guys And i'm not talking cat. Pits
- 1:28:57Speaker 10: go look at the whole cash. Payouts how are the
- 1:28:59Speaker 10: bad the Freaking bangles guys able to give their quarterback
- 1:29:03Speaker 10: the tarp of the market? Deals have their wide receiver,
- 1:29:06Speaker 10: one you, know AND i have a record deal for
- 1:29:11Speaker 10: wide receiver ones and their wide receiver two set the.
- 1:29:14Speaker 10: Market how are we letting The bengals get away with?
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: That, Well, PATTY i understand what you're, saying but we're
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: getting a little bit mad about something that hasn't. HAPPENED i,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: Know i'll, say like they they they haven't traded him or,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: anything like he's still on The patriots and they're working through. It,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: LIKE i understand where you're coming, from AND i understand the,
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: frustration but let's not get mad at them about something
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: they haven't done.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: Yet it's by multiple people that That witherspoon is going
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: to sign Before, gonzalz and it's In gonzalz's best interest
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: for that to. Happen the second guy to sign makes more.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: Money my whole boy is this is this falls apart
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: and they end, up you, know having to trade them
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: like The cowboys With Micah parsons or something like, that then,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: well then we will criticize them for. That, absolutely we're
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: a long way away from that. HAPPENING i don't think
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: you hit the panic button.
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: Toil we get, LIKE i don't, know a few days
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: after where there'spoon, signs and then it BECOMES i, guess
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: just like what a what's the in the short, term,
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: like are we worried that.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: He's going to sit out games because that's not in
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: his best induce to sit out if.
- 1:30:11Speaker 10: You, will so then think you. Will and just one
- 1:30:15Speaker 10: one quick point on that BEFORE i ask my. QUESTION
- 1:30:18Speaker 10: i think if they proposed a let's say it's thirty
- 1:30:22Speaker 10: five million dollars, annual like a one four, year one
- 1:30:25Speaker 10: hundred and seventy million dollar contract extension with like one
- 1:30:29Speaker 10: hundred and twenty million dollars dollars, GUARANTEED i think that's
- 1:30:32Speaker 10: a bargain for that for that, guy and and THE
- 1:30:36Speaker 10: nfl top one hundred just.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: Forty two million a year past the BEST i think
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: you said thirty.
- 1:30:40Speaker 10: Five thirty, five thirty thirty, five he, said, maybe, yeah
- 1:30:45Speaker 10: that's at thirty. Five i'm, Sorry oh, Okay I'm i'm
- 1:30:51Speaker 10: no good with, math, okay but.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: Given forty two a year he'd sign, now.
- 1:30:57Speaker 10: Yeah and me, too AND i would because.
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: It's ten million over the CURRENT.
- 1:31:00Speaker 10: Nfl top one. One THE Nfl top. One hunter just proved.
- 1:31:04Speaker 10: It it's voted on by the. Players he's not just
- 1:31:06Speaker 10: one of the best players at his, positions he's one
- 1:31:08Speaker 10: of the best players in the. League you hold on
- 1:31:10Speaker 10: to those, guys all, Right. Brantover so my question Is
- 1:31:15Speaker 10: Alex he already kind of gave me a happier answer
- 1:31:17Speaker 10: yesterday on the, Crossover but which two guys offense and?
- 1:31:22Speaker 10: Defense are, you guys most excited to see showcase tomorrow.
- 1:31:25Speaker 10: Night i'll give you. Mine excited to see Jam. MILLER
- 1:31:29Speaker 10: i thought the PRACTICE i went to he every time
- 1:31:32Speaker 10: there was a crease in the, game the ball he,
- 1:31:33Speaker 10: hit he hit the that crease with. Authority And i'm
- 1:31:37Speaker 10: excited to see What Karan prunty's going to do because you,
- 1:31:40Speaker 10: know with all the, defense all the corners, OUT i
- 1:31:43Speaker 10: think he's going to get a lot of playing. Time
- 1:31:44Speaker 10: And i'll take that out, there.
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: Guys, Thanks Thanks. PATTY i add one more thing, too,
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: sorry real, quick because he did the quarterback. THING i
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: meant to say this during that just to be. FAIR
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: i got a text my. Friend all, right for all
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: the victory off ON jj, McCarthy Michael penox has not
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: turned out super. Well. NOW i did SAY i was
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: worried about the, injuries AND i think it's been more
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: injuries than anything. Else But i'll own that one anyway.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: Tomorrow with that quarterback, CLASS i did the samest thing.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: POSSIBLE i just stayed in the lane of those three, Guys,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Williams daniel May.
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: I I.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: I NEVER i never was the nixt. GUY i never
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: was A penis. GUY i never was a McCarthy. Guy
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: not BECAUSE i didn't see any ability out of those,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: guys BUT i just stayed in the wheelhouse of the.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: Consensus you thought they were going to Get pennix with
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: like the thirtieth. PICK i remember we had that.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Debate was probably right to think.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: That in AN.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: I understand where we're getting emails about, It patty's calling
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: in about. IT i totally understand why people Want Christian zala.
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: Sign we all Want Christian zala. SIGN i would just,
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: say LIKE i said To, patty they haven't done anything wrong,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Yet like they. Haven't they haven't gotten to the, point you.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: KNOW i bring up The Michael parsons thing The cowboys
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: butchered the negotiation so badly they ended up having to
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: Trade Micah. Parsons, yeah we until we get. There let's
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: not grab the torch and pitchforks just. Yet now they
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: need to pony up and pay the, Guy there's no
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: doubt about. That but at the same, time we still
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: aren't getting there. YET i also don't really, understand like
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: there's no real argument for him holding out of. Games,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: no it. Doesn't it doesn't really benefit either, party doesn't
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: really benefit anybody for him to sit out. Games my
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: hope on this whole, thing this is just my gut
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: feeling on. It my hope was that this was like
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: kind of What belichick used to. Do guys would have good.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: Camps they'd come in ready to, go they come in in,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: shape they practice all throughout, camp they have good training,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: camps and then at the end of the, summer in
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: that lull between roster cutdown day and the beginning of
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: the regular, season they get. Paid they Get that's when
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: the extension would would be announced or be agreed. To
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: i'm hoping that's where this is headed With, gonzales is
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: that they kind of, said what's operating good faith in training.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Camp if it all goes well and everything is headed
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: in the right, direction we're gonna hammer out the details
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: of this. Contract i'm, like you, Know september. Second, yeah,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: well we'll come to terms on.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: IT i just go back to all the reporting has
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: been That witherspoon's gonna sign. FIRST i think. So first of,
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: ALL i don't know if we've talked about, this who's
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: a better, Player christiannzalez Or Devin.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: Witherspoon we've had this discussion on p you and it's
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: a hard one because they're.
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: DIFFERENT i, think, WELL i just THINK.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: I Think Devin witherspoon is more of a. Playmaker which
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: player is more?
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: VALUABLE i think It's.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: Gonzales if you're especially if you're going to play a
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: defense that's going to play a lot of. Man if
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: you're gonna play man and you're gonna play man on
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: third down and you have to have the ability to
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: you have to have a number one. Corner we've seen
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: that over the years. Here But witherspoon's damn. Good but
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: he's a different type of, good Right he's so he's
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: a more of a playmakings corner around the ball a.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: LOT i think it's also more valuable. PLAYER i think
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: he knows. THAT i Think patriots know. It, again it's
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: Not i'm not excusing. It it's not great he's not.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: Signed you'd rather have him. Signed i'm just not hitting
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: the panic button. Too witherspoon signs and THEN i give
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: him like seventy two hours and then, Yeah i'm not.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Playing regular season games on his rookie contract as long as.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: That but what If witherspoon.
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: DOES i GUESS i can't imagine.
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: That thats like McDuffie played all of last, YEAR i
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: know without a. DEAL i KNOW i brought that. Up
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: AND i think McDuffie And witherspoon are cloak like they're.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: Similar players a little bit more Than.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Yeah so that's just kind of Where i'm at. Is
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: as long as The witherspoon deal is not, Done i'm
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: not super worried about. It once The witherspoon deal gets,
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: done the quock, starts and that quots can move pretty.
- 1:35:56Speaker 10: Fast.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: Yeah, SURE i think in both, parties AND i guess
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: maybe you know they're related but unrelated at the same.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: TIME i think in both, situations IF i was A
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: seahawks fan or, reporter A Patriots fanner. Reporter if Their
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: week one rolls around in that opening game starts and
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: Both Christian gonzales Or Devin witherspoon are playing on the
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: fourth year of their rookie, contract THEN i would would
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: be a little bit fancy about, that because that's The
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Michael parsons.
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: Thing.
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: Right here's the other thing that you don't want to,
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: do as it went with the McDuffie. Thing if you
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: run this out too, long.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: Who got traded as, well by the, way, Right.
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: If you run this out too, long, Well Quinian mitchell's
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: going to reset the market when he gets paid next,
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: spring assuming The eagles are going to pay, him, Right
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: is that an unfair? Expectation, yeah so because he and
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: now he's the only good corner from that. Draft there's
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: not a second guy like we Did sauce In stanley
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: and Right Gonzales. Witherspoon But Quinion mitchell's going to reset the.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: Market you can't get lapped because that's another draft. Class
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: so that's going to reset it.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: Significantly if he has to play regular regular season games
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: on the fourth year of his rookie, contract it's gonna
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: get hostile like.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: That that's exactly what happened with.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: McDuffie it's exactly what happened With Micah. Parsons, like that's when,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: you regardless of who signs when and all that kind of,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: stuff when you make the player play without an extension
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: and without that big money contract in his back, pocket
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: the player is going to be frustrated with.
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: That, there some guys comes a lot harder to do
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: it at that. Point So Drake london played on the
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: fourth year of his rookie. CONTRACT A lave played on
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: the fourth year of his rookie contract last.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: Year not as good a, Player.
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: Hutchins Aiden hutchinson did a little.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Bit he's hurt, though so they waited for him to
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: like look.
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: Healthy, okay and then He Jordan davis did not as
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: good as a. Player jordan is pretty? Good all, right fair,
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: enough all, Right.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: Let's Take mark In connecticut's. Call what's, Up?
- 1:37:54Speaker 10: Mark what's going?
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: On my brother so super excited to come On wednesday
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: for joint. PRACTICE i really feel like we actually now
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: finally have a tight end room With Hunter Henry Eli
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: reard AND's just looking like a stud In Pana. Harkin
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: you know our three, guys you, know one of our
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: favorite undrafted. GUYS i think he's going to make a
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: big pop in the roster as far as blocking. Goes
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: So i'm really excited to see those two. Guys but
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: WHAT i wanted to, ASK i, know the Whole Christian
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: zales thing going on me, Personally my thought is if
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: he if he doesn't want to sign for whatever the
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: market value, is then why not trade. Him you can
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: probably get three first round picks for. Him you, can you,
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: know package you know some of those. Up you can
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: get back into the top ten and get another stud.
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: Corner so so my thought, is you, know if you
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: can just keep recycling through you know players and not
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: have to pay every position top, dollar that that would be,
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: my you, know my opinion to go. THROUGH i, MEAN
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: i feel, like as long as you have good, corners
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: you don't need elite.
- 1:39:01Speaker 10: Corners but if you.
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: Have good, CORNERS i feel, like you, know the money
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: should be spread around a little bit better to maybe
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: a left backle your, quarterback you, know more premium positions
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: that you know that you. Need what is your guys'
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: thoughts on?
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: That, yeah thanks for the, Call, Mark, LOOK I i
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: feel like this is, always you, know we do this
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: all the. Time with the voter or the mystery. Box, Right,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: yes you could Trade Christian zales for a boatload of
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: first round. Picks one of those first round picks might
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: even be as good As Christian zalz right, Right like
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: that's the argument against, it right, obviously you, know and
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: then in the short, term if you Trade Christian, zales
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: what does that do For Drake man the twenty twenty Sixth.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: Patriots, no you need the Immediate they'd be better off
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: With Christian zolaz playing on his rookie contract and trading
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: him after the year for maybe, less, yeah than trading
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: him now for. More because you're trying to get back
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: To Super. Bowl you're not gonna be able to replace
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: him right now unless you trade him for another. Player
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: BUT i just don't see that, Happening like that should
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: be the last ditch. Outcome, absolutely can't let him walk
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: in free. Agency, no that's not that's not.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: HAPPENING i mean they have franchise, tag they have all
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: sorts of team Controls.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Arry draft and developed. Team he is a guy that
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: drafts and. Developed he was the first one really of
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: The Elliot wolf. Era like they should be paying him
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: so that he won't take market. Value we don't know
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: what the market value. Is that's what makes this. Tricky
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: he's going to reset the. Market, no he's not going
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: to take one hundred thousand dollars more Than Denzel. Ward he's.
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: Not he's a much better. Player him And witherspoon are
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: going to reset the. Market that's probably part of the
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: reason that he's going to sign, second Because witherspoon's going
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: to reset it, too and he wants a better idea
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: of what the new market. Is and there's some external
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: forces In. Seattle when you talk about the team being,
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: sold that just that deal needs to get done sooner
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: rather than. Later it's not to say The patriot shouldn't
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: be urgent With, gonzales but there's again just, business non
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: football reasons That witherspoon should sign. First so same, Go,
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: Well gonzales won't sign for market, value so kick his
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: ass to the. Curb, like that's not what's. Happening this
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: isn't some mid tier player that is thinking he's above
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: what he is and is getting. Greedy AND i feel
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: like it's kind of starting to get painted like.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: That, WELL i think that at this, point for better or. Worse,
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: Yeah Robert craft came out and said that we've offered
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: him the highest paid contract at that position in the
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: highest Paid patriot, ever now the highest Paid patriot, ever,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: whatever but highest paid player at the. Position that's a big.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: Contract if that's, true then that's a big contract to.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Offer and so to a lot of, People i'm not
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: going to put words in the caller's, mouth but to
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: a lot of, people it's, like, well they already offered
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: you the biggest contract at the position in the history
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: of the, League, like what more do you? Want but
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: at the same, time we don't. Know the devil's in the.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: Details we don't know how much guaranteed money that. Is
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: we don't know how much money is tied up and
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: per game roster bonuses and workout bonuses and all these
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: other different things that contract fluff turns, into you, know
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: incentives like does he have to make The Pro? Bowl
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: does he have to make it All pro? Team do
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: they have to make The Super? Bowl like all these
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: different things that go into these. Contracts we don't know
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: the details of that of that.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Offer SO i.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Think that that's and maybe it was good, postering maybe
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: it was, bad but putting pressure on the on the
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: player a little bit by saying we offered him a
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: market record is what, happened and so some people take
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: that at face, value and that's where we're at on
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: the kind of Pro patriot Anti gonzales side a little.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Bit my whole thing is That i'm just not worried
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: about any of this.
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: Yet. YEAH i think we're.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: Still way too early on the calendar for me to
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: start to worry that this isn't going to get done.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: Again if he starts playing games on the fourth year
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: of his rookie, contract it's hard to come back from.
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: That that's WHEN i start to get. Concerned that's WHEN
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: i start to get concerned that we're headed down The,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: parsons the, McDuffie that path of things where next offseason
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: there training them and that's not what we. Want, yeah
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: obviously you want my player.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: HERE i, Again witherspoon's going to reset the market at some. Point,
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: Now gonzalez has an idea of what the, market and
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: The patriots have an idea of what the market, is
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: and they go from. THERE i think that's what's going to.
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: Happen All, right we have fifteen minutes. Left let's talk
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: about the game tomorrow. Night, yeah fifteen minutes is the
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: perfect amount of.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: Time we're on a pre back catch twenty two form
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: were like blow through the whole. Show we barely even
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: have time to preview the next.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: Game, no this is the perfect amount of time to
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: talk about a preseason.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Game.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Preseason, no we we got very bogged down by the quarterback.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: Development that was a good.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: Conversation the preseason game tomorrow, Night thursday, NIGHT i should,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: say because that's the. Best the right thing to do
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: on radio is not say tomorrow or. Yesterday thursday night
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: always a showcase for individual. Players, yeah not going to
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: talk too much about the scheme or anything like, that
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: especially with the coaching staff staying the same from year to. Year,
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: here it's always a showcase for individual. Players the biggest
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: one to, me let's start with the. ROOKIES i think
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: all those guys will. Play there's no reason for them not.
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: To maybe there's an injury or something like that would
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: be the only. Reason so you're gonna See. LOMU i
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: assume you're gonna See. Yakis that's the one and he's
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: practiced in full.
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: And maybe it's just a couple, series BUT i think
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: we're gonna see him for you, know more than just
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: a few.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: Plays you're gonna See Eli reridan obviously as well in that,
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: GROUP i would, think but this is the first, time
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: AND i think that all three of those guys play
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: positions where you really kind of have to go back
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: and evaluate tape of that of how it, looks because
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: it's harder to evaluate and. Practice they all play in
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: the trenches in some. Respects they're all blocking or you,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: know pass rushing or stop in the. Run i'm really
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: excited to see what those three guys in, particular out
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: of that rookie class look like on. Film you, know
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: does do they look, strong do they look like they
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: can block their? Position do they look like you, Know
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: akus's skill. Translate that to me is really kind of the.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: Headline and then some of the roster. Battles but the three,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: rookies it's always the first. Preseason, YEAH i.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: Mean that's that's, Well i'll throw four in, There i'll
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: throw a punty in. There, yeah but that's gonna be
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: the main. STORY i think those guys not to see
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: a ton of the. Starters those are four players that
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: oh lonmoy guess the red, shirt he's a first round,
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: pick and then the other three year guys that are
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: gonna play a role for this, team to what extent
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: we'll find, out but guys that are gonna play a
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: role for this team this. Year so against you, know live,
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: competition it sounds like The colts may play a few
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: more of their. Starters IF i was reading that right,
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: YESTERDAY i Know David jones isn't, playing but.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: Even If acis And raridon are going against their, two's
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: so those are still guys that are gonna make their
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: team and make their. Roster but it's, more you, know
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: it's not their front line, guys, RIGHT i still feel
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: like that's you're you can take, Away Like Blake freeland
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: is their backup left. Tackle it's AN nfl, Player like
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: it's not it's Not Bernard, raymond but it's he's still
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: AND nfl caliber swing. Tackle so if gay backs bolt
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: rushes him and puts him on the, Ground i'm still
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: gonna clip. It that's still gonna be something we're gonna talk.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: About so that's what it's Really when you get into
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: the fourth quarter of the preseason games and you got
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: the guys that are maybe trying to put out tape for,
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: practice squads and things like.
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: That that's when it gets.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Dicey but usually for these, games like the first, quarter
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: maybe even the whole first, half there's at LEAST nfl
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: players on the field, Exactly So i'm looking forward to.
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: That the other, ONE i would, SAY i think That
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: Kyle williams kind of needs to have a big.
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: Preseason.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: NOW i don't think he's in jeopardy of getting, cut
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: but is there a chance that they entertain a trade with?
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: Him is there a chance that his role is extremely
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: diminished and he's really another red shirt kind of season for.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: HIM i Think Kyle williams in these preseason, games it's
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: not enough for him to look like he. Belongs he
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: needs to look like he's a cut above everybody else
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: on the. Field the third running back, Competition this is
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: maybe one of the bigger ones, too really difficult to
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: evaluate running backs in. Practice there's no, tackling so the
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: whole tackle breaking element is completely taken, out which is
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: obviously a big part of. This So laris And, Jennings, Miller,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: montgomery those four, GUYS i think this is a big
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: night for, them all three. GAMES i think that's you,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: Know Kyle shannan has said it in the Pass i'm
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: sure other coaches have said. It you really can't evaluate
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: running backs in, practice not in terms of running the,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: football maybe in pass protection or running routes side of the,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: backfield but as a ball. Carrier it's the preseason games
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: that really win or lose those.
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: Jobs, YEAH i, mean you notice we've talked about this
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: running back competition a lot in terms of, like, well
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: like this is what it looks like right, now but
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: there's time for that to, change or this guy's in the,
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: lead but nothing's, concrete or like this is where we
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: start to actually get some concrete information on these. GUYS
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: i would assume it's going to be relatively even workload
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: between them.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Two, Yeah i'm sure we'll see a lot Of Miller
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: montgomery in the fourth Quarter.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: Miller, monty AND i think we'll see plenty Of laris
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: in early In. Jenning, SO i, MEAN i wouldn't be
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: surprised If, henderson If stevenson doesn't, Play henderson maybe gets a.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: Drive war two just kind of work on some of
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: that pass protection. Stuff but we're gonna get a full.
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: Look this running back battle's kind of been. Simmering it
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: might be a way to put, it because, again there's
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: a little so much you can see in, practice and
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: now it's gonna be right in our face because we
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: also Know josh mccaniels not super interested in throwing the
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: ball ton in the. Preseason let's keep the clock, moving get,
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: in get. OUT i like. THEM i like that.
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: APPROACH i would say, too with all the four of
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: those guys you, know or any of them returning, kickoffs
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: if they, do how do they look Returning.
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: Kyle williams in that as? Well? Yeah that THAT i.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Think you, know we've Seen Kyle, Williams Terrell, Jennings, landleris
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: And Efton chisholm. YESTERDAY i think we have the four
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: guys that got a shot out on the kickoff. Returns
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: SO i think those guys will be involved in that as.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Well right, now if you had to make a, projection
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: who's who you're keeping at running, back.
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: The fact they Jump Terrell jennings right to the top
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: of the depth chart tells me it's.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: HIM i feel the same.
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: Way BUT i, mean they clearly Like larison.
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: Too i'm not rolling out A larison push, here, yeah
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: but it does feel like they really Like Terrell.
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: JENNINGS i did a ross projection over the. WEEKEND i
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: Had Terrell jennings.
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: All right next one, HERE i wrote down the depth
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: edge Rushers Brayden, Swinson Xavier, holmes AND i PUT Q
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: hutchins on this list. Too can any of those guys
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: show me? Something because right, now Pondered Draymond, jones gay
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: backus in whatever, Capacity Harold landry's on the roster around the.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: Building those four guys are going to be here this.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: Season is there a fifth guy that's worth? Keeping is
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: there AN nfl player out of that group that's worth
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: keeping as the fifth? Guy If Harold landry opens the
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: season on, pup what do you do?
- 1:49:51Speaker 11: Then?
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: RIGHT i mean that might be a waiver, CLAIM i will,
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: say unless one of these guys shows out and earns the.
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: Job So swinson hasn't popped the way you'd Ho Xavier
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: holmes wasn't bad in that joint. Practicing almost blocked a punt,
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: yep WHICH i know doesn't apply to edge, rushing but
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: that's going to be a special teams.
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: Role, yeah him AND Q hutchins can both play on.
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: Teams So I'm Xavier hutchinson. Won i'll be watching a
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: little Closely, Yeah, Holmes Xavier, Holmes, YEAH i kind of like.
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: YOU i like What i've.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Seen FROM Q hutchins and one on, ones AND i
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: know he can play special. Teams, yeah so that's the
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: guy That i'm hoping maybe pops a little bit uh
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: depth on the offensive, line you, know tackle, depth guard.
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: Depth you've Mentioned Marcus bryant and cayleb blowgo win a
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: little bit of a camp. Battle that's one their plan
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: For James. Hudson he's playing playing.
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: A lot of anybody stepping up at Cars So James hudson.
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: RUPSICH i Assume Ben brown's gonna play at least a little.
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: Bit it will probably be a lot Of Jacob rizzy
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: too at, center just to get them through the. Game
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: but any of those guys on the interior offensive line
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: put out good.
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: TAPE i, SOMEWHAT i still realizing that any thing in,
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: camp we really haven't seen him on the. FIELD i
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: still want to Think John Darius morgan maybe can make a,
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: push but this is gonna be the setting he has
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: to do, it because, again he's not getting a ton
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: of reps in practices right. Now.
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: Yep demetrius Crown over put him with the. ROOKIES i
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: just it's so enticing the, tools the, length he's light
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: on his, feet he's a big. Dude he's got great,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: length like unreal arm. Length if they can develop the,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: tools and it's a long term, play it's not something
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: that's gonna happen overnight with Crown. Over, yeah BUT i
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: JUST i would hate them to cut those, tools LIKE
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: i you, know just maybe it's there's not a room
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: for him on the, roster BUT i want to see
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: them sink their teeth into developing.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: Him WELL i do, remember so let's let's rewind a, year,
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: Right and we both liked The DeMarcus bryant. Pick, yep
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: and you, know, okay fun project player guy they can maybe.
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: Develop and then he really didn't do much last summer
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: and we weren't sure if he was going to make the.
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: Team we thought he's gonna come in and Replace Viderian,
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: low and it Was Ververian low pretty sistantly wrapping ahead of,
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: him and it was, like all, right well he was
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: a project. Player maybe they didn't see enough makes the
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: team like true red shirt. Year and now look at,
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: it he's pushing their first round pick to be the
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: top backup swing. Tackle what If crownover is just? That,
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: yeah what if they like him but they know he's not,
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: Ready so, it's, hey we don't want expose me too
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: much right. Away we need to get him in the
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: weight room and get him in the, program and then
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: maybe next year is the big year for Crown. Over,
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Right Morgan moses is gone and then it's it's Low
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: moos starting and it's Crown over Versus bryant for that
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: top backup tackle.
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: Job SO I i don't know how MUCH i need
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: to see For crownover to be like good or bad
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: one where there he might be like a true true
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: red shirt player the Way Marcus bryant was last.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: Year he can't teach that those types of traits, size,
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: lane foot, speed, right it's those are hard to find
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: in a three hundred plus pound human, being and he's got.
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: Him SO i just would hate to see them have
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: to give up on that because of a roster. Crunch,
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: yeah you, know find a way to keep him in the.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: Building dev. LINEBACKER i Think Kleil jacob is gonna be a.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Name if you're watching it on the broadcast tomorrow, night
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: you're gonna probably hear a lot of hype For Khalil
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: jacobs as a guy that maybe is pushing for the
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: fourth linebacker. Spot it's been pretty, Consistent roberts, Playing Christian,
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Ellis Chad muma is the top three. Guys Maybe muma
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: plays a little bit just because they need bodies and
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: need somebody to, play But Khalil jacobs is the. Guy
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: and then we've talked a lot about the cornerback spot
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: and the depth at corner And vildor And prunty And
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: minor and all those guys Channing. Canada if you want
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: to throw his name in there as, well they're all gonna,
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: play and they're all gonna you have to showcase their
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: ability to compete and be the rotational corner fourth guy
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: if you want to call it. That is there anything
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: else that you're looking at Besides tommy Two, chains who's
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: gonna go out there and hopefully light it up in
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: the first.
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: QUARTER i tweeted it up about. IT i tweeted it
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: the night they signed the udfa's As i'm ready for
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: to come to. Fruition Baron, Morton Cameron, dorner you are
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: gonna look Like brady and ass out they want that.
- 1:54:01Speaker 2: CONNECTION i am excited for that connection.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: There you actually are excited for.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: That, look The more's had a good camp and great
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: SO i know he missed some time he was, hurt
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: but before that he was really. Good i'm excited to
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: see with those. Guys you know how much that fourth
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: court of the preseason he, gets like it's like college
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: football relivated. Skuys you just remember watching On saturdays and
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: who's that guy that pops up off in the fourth
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: court and, like all, right he's not gonna make the.
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: Team but that was kind of. Sick, Okay i'll give you.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: That you know. What, uh that's what we.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: Have to find joy and in these preseason games is
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: it's somebody's, journey, right.
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: It's somebody some.
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: Big part of, it trying to make a, roster trying
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: to stick in THE, nfl trying to make a practice.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: Squad Even, hey the practice squad guys get paid, too you,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: know they get taken care. Of, also they're eating out
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: of the same brand new. Cafeteria we're gonna go check
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: out here in a little, bit and, uh you know
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: all that kind of. Stuff Mike rabel usually takes pretty
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: good care of the practice squad guys to a lot
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: of them travel in the playoffs last, year got to
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: go to the Super, bowl all that kind of, Stuff
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: so you know what that that means something as, well
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: and that's what the preseason is all. About we got
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: one more, call and he's got a good, name SO
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: i can't leave him on. Hold and then he's going
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: to wrap up the show for. Us, evan what's going?
- 1:55:15Speaker 11: On hey, Guys, evan this questions for. YOU i know
- 1:55:23Speaker 11: we're just talking about the swing, tackle so apologies and
- 1:55:25Speaker 11: someone's already asked, this but what do we think about
- 1:55:28Speaker 11: getting mac hollins maybe the swing tackle opening up an
- 1:55:31Speaker 11: extra roster?
- 1:55:32Speaker 10: Spot.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: Appreciated thanks for the, Call. Evan that's a great.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Idea like he's too small to move him to tight,
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: end so let's move him even further inside and closer
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: to the. FOOTBALL i tackled, good, good not exactly WHAT
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: i was expecting to end the showing a running, back.
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: You, know but not your Boy Haines king got? Hurt?
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: Huh you got he did The charlotte?
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: Flew is that what they're Calling charlotte's?
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: SICKNESS i had one other question from the email THAT
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: i probably shouldn't have wait for so, long BECAUSE i
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: know you can get lost in the sauce with a
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: With mike, McDaniel BUT i have seen a lot of
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: clips on social media The. Chargers social media is putting
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: out Of mike McDaniel being a.
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: Goofball.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: Uh This emailers is From john who said he has
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: a question for you. SPECIFICALLY i know you Hate mike,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: McDaniel BUT i wonder what your thought on him being
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: in oc With Justin. Herbert what do you feel do
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: you feel like he's going to be a good offensive
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: coordinator For Justin?
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: Herbert he'll probably be. Fine AND i, look And i've
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: said this about, him And i've said this about some
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: of the other head Coaches i've. Criticized there are some
- 1:56:33Speaker 2: people that are just really good coordinators that are not
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: meant to be head. Coaches AND i Put mike McDaniel in.
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: THAT i think he's got a good mind for the.
- 1:56:40Speaker 2: GAME i think he designs good. Plays he needs to
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: actually get the plays. In you, know he did struggle
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: with which he can't do and maybe he needs to
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: be offensive coordinator but not the play caller or. Something
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: but the interesting thing to me there is like him
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: And harbaugh don't sync up in terms of their philosophy
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: is a ton and if it doesn't, like is that
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: going to become an. Issue BUT i think he's a
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: good offensive. MIND i just don't think he's a series,
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: enough serious enough person to be AN nfl head. Coach
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: SO i.
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: Think that might be. Fair that last part might be.
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: FAIR i think that he runs the ball more than
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: he gets credit. For But miami was just a finesse.
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: Team it's the way he. Runs harbaugh wants to have
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: three full backs something right, like But miami played with
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: a full Back. Algangal that's, true but they were a finest,
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: team but a different kind of full. Back they were
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: trying to get H they were trying to get outside
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: and into, thealey As Vince lombardi would, say Whereas harbaught
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: traditionally wants to come right at you.
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: Right so stylistically they run the ball. Differently but, PHILOSOPHICALLY
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: i Think mike McDaniel actually runs the ball more than
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: people give him credit.
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: For but it's just a different kind Of, yeah it's,
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: SO i, mean that'll be. INTERESTING I and the other
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: thing is McDaniel's notoriously been bad in the, playoffs Justin
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: herbert notoriously struggled to win the, playoffs SO i don't
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: know about that. PAIRING i remember saying this to, you
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: and this is before we knew everything that was going
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: to happen with The patriots and worked out. Better but
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: when the Drug mayo Alexident pelting wasn't working and we
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: weren't sure if they were gonna want and Done mayo
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: and Hey Van, Pelt MIKE o is, like we gotta
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: hope The dolphins fire McDaniel soon so he can come
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: be THE oc For drake may LIKE i had said. That,
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: yeah so when he got fired by, mam he was
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: gonna be probably the best offensive Coordinator canada available that.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: CYCLE i find it interesting that he's the coordinator now
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: Because Ted win had that list of the best play
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: callers in the, league the two it was a top,
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: ten the two ocs non head coaches that made the.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: List for McDaniels to, McDaniel yeah that was, tricky two different.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: People So josh McDaniels WAS i think eighth on the
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: list and he was the FIRST oc, name and Then
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: mike McDaniel i think was tenth on the list and
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: he was the SECOND oc. Named so both teams have
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: a benefit of really having like head coach offense with
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: both those. Guys that's different than maybe some of the
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: other ocs that you. See So i'm interested to see
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: how that, goes BECAUSE i do do you hear a
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: lot about The chargers and how much talent they have
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: on that. Roster and they Have Jim harbough who everybody
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: and they Have Justin herbert who everybody, loves and they
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: have you, know the two tackles are going to be
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: healthy now and all this different type of, stuff and
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: they can't win in the, playoffs so it's all kind
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: of mustard up to.
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Nothing we'll see if.
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: It look there he is right, now he's The Joel
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: embiid of the of THE. Nfl it's somebody else you
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: know who The yes it, Is yes it. Is he's
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: gone better Than Joel. Embiid But John bead's never been
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: out of the second.
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: Round, yeah but they both have kind of the fraudulent
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: m V p and they play for franchises that just
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: consistently get in their own.
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: WAY i, think, uh do you think That Josh allen
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: And Harley steinfeler are gonna play with each other's hair
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: on the training camp? Field. MAYBE i mean Justin herbert did, It,
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: Josh Joe burrow did. IT i haven't Seen drake do
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: it with my own.
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: Eyes he was sitting with Hand michael made the other
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: day and kind of. Post but they weren't for a,
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: second they weren't doing any of. That he's talk to
- 1:59:54Speaker 2: THE i don't know if there was, absolutely of, COURSE
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: i don't know if if Is herbert. Married burrow's not Married.
- 2:00:02Speaker 2: HERBERT i think they're, Engaged, okay so they can they
- 2:00:05Speaker 2: can do. THAT i don't. KNOW i don't look too
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: much into. That but, uh what we're on the coaching.
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: Thing have you seen the stuff coming out Of bill's
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: camp About Joe?
- 2:00:12Speaker 1: BRADY i, like but the bills have some weird and
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: we have to wrap the bills have some Weird JUST
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: i don't know what's real and what's not real with the.
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: Bills it's kind of like politics these, days like is
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: this headline true or is this like something that's been made?
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: Up like their uniform the stadium has apparently like a
- 2:00:32Speaker 2: diva and a problem now all of a, Sudden LIKE
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: i just don't know what's going on In orchard coach,
- 2:00:37Speaker 2: Killer somebody just tell me what's.
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: Real, Buffalo just explain to. Me does your stadium have
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: obstructed views or? Not LIKE i JUST i don't know
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: what's being.
- 2:00:46Speaker 2: MANIPULATED ai from him YESTERDAY i thought was fake ON,
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: McFee but apparently it was.
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: Real my, goodness all, Right and he said he's a
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: little softer, now, yeah, yeah because he had a baby
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: or she had a. Baby, yeah he did not have a.
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: Baby all.
