- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Of course, I am your host, Clay and with me
- 0:27Speaker 2: like every single week. Of course. Is Katie, Katie, how
- 0:32Speaker 2: you doing today?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Hello? The weather is killing my throat, so Matt measured
- 0:39Speaker 3: it out. I have about four ounces of whiskey in
- 0:42Speaker 3: this hot toddy.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Oh lovely. That sounds amazing. It's about the.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Only thing that helps, because it's just a sore throat
- 0:55Speaker 3: that just won't leave. And it's like you could do
- 0:59Speaker 3: like those throat numbing sprays, or you could do alcohol,
- 1:04Speaker 3: you know, with the project I'm working on at work,
- 1:08Speaker 3: we do.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Alcohol, honestly, sometimes depending if you already have the alcohol
- 1:14Speaker 2: versus going to go get the medication. Correct, it's sometimes
- 1:18Speaker 2: cheaper correct, and I do I have.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I'm a whiskey person.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So well, guys, today, Katie and I were literally just
- 1:31Speaker 2: talking about the news quote unquote that we have this week,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and it's not much of anything. There's just a whole
- 1:39Speaker 2: bunch of quotes, some misquotes apparently, And of course our
- 1:46Speaker 2: main topic of the evening is Charles Soul's Star Wars
- 1:51Speaker 2: Darth Vader run Issues one through twelve that we're talking
- 1:56Speaker 2: about tonight.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Hey, guys, we're tackling the Darth Vader runs for kind
- 2:01Speaker 3: of two reasons here. One is for a master of Evil.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Adam Christopher has stated that he found one spot in
- 2:12Speaker 3: this run where there's a perfect time period to put
- 2:16Speaker 3: a Darth Vader novel, and that there's a gap missing
- 2:21Speaker 3: where Darth Vader explores eternal life and like goes to
- 2:25Speaker 3: this planet and finds all these people and whatnot. So
- 2:28Speaker 3: for that, we have to like talk about this because
- 2:32Speaker 3: we've never actually really talked about this comic on the
- 2:36Speaker 3: show before, so we're gonna talk in that regards. But
- 2:41Speaker 3: also Charles Soul is doing his Legacy of Darth Vader
- 2:47Speaker 3: run with Kylo Rinn. It is a sequel trilogy comic,
- 2:52Speaker 3: and that first trade is coming out in October, so
- 2:58Speaker 3: it's kind of the perfect time because he said that
- 3:00Speaker 3: there would be things popping up in that comic from
- 3:05Speaker 3: both his Rise of Kylo Wren comic, his Star Wars
- 3:09Speaker 3: run as well as his Darth Vader run, So it's
- 3:15Speaker 3: perfect timing basically.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And I like, I think we both we both
- 3:22Speaker 2: forgot how good this comic is as far as writing, art,
- 3:30Speaker 2: just everything about this. So we will have a lot
- 3:32Speaker 2: to comment on about that. So let's go ahead and
- 3:35Speaker 2: jump into the the news the quotes that we're gonna
- 3:39Speaker 2: be talking about today. The first one, I feel like
- 3:42Speaker 2: the big one is what is first on our list
- 3:46Speaker 2: here in our Star Wars Alliance chat. I think it's
- 3:51Speaker 2: really funny, Katie, you shared it with our Star Wars
- 3:55Speaker 2: Alliance chat with the comic tb D. Of course, of
- 4:02Speaker 2: course this is to be you know, determined, to be
- 4:08Speaker 2: determined at this point, I really like to say that's
- 4:15Speaker 2: to be debated just because the the quote is, or
- 4:24Speaker 2: the the the tweet that we saw that everybody was
- 4:27Speaker 2: going crazy over because there was alleged footage of Ian
- 4:33Speaker 2: McGregor at I believe.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Okay, So the problem was is there wasn't footage.
- 4:40Speaker 2: There was a footage. There was just word of mouth,
- 4:43Speaker 2: which is always worse.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Expo and they don't allow cameras, like, they don't allow
- 4:54Speaker 3: cell phones, like you can't tape interviews nothing. So NeXT's
- 4:59Speaker 3: Point News, which I don't know who runs this.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I have no idea who this is.
- 5:04Speaker 3: It's another fan site in Nexus. Point News basically was
- 5:08Speaker 3: like Ewan McGregor has confirmed he will return as Obi
- 5:11Speaker 3: Wan Kenobi in Ahsoka season two. He was apparently misquoted.
- 5:18Speaker 3: The Nexus Point News goes, Yeah, no, I'm gonna stick
- 5:21Speaker 3: with what I reported, but it's possible I could have
- 5:24Speaker 3: misheard it. Like Okay, that's.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Like, that's that's why would you double down once you've
- 5:31Speaker 2: been That's just that's that's so bad. So the next
- 5:37Speaker 2: thing that we see here is Ian McGregor is not
- 5:40Speaker 2: confirmed to be returning Intosoka season two. The outlet that
- 5:43Speaker 2: first reported this uh inaccurately quoted Greg McGregor's comments. Now,
- 5:49Speaker 2: I think that if anything, mm hmm, McGregor may have
- 5:57Speaker 2: done one of those uh uh Tom holland slash.
- 6:03Speaker 3: How would you guys feel about this quote?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly exactly. It's it's one of those like,
- 6:10Speaker 2: oh do you want me to be? You know, kind
- 6:13Speaker 2: of egging them on type of thing.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah. And now his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in
- 6:21Speaker 3: the show as Harrah, So the report, like all of
- 6:27Speaker 3: the context that was added to these tweets is like
- 6:30Speaker 3: he was referring to his wife being in the show,
- 6:33Speaker 3: not him.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I find that convoluted, because how do you get those confused.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, like I it's kind of hard for you to
- 6:45Speaker 2: to to misquote that, but I look, we've talked about it,
- 6:53Speaker 2: sorry so many times. You know. There is of course
- 6:59Speaker 2: also heavy rumors of more flashbacks, more Clone Wars era
- 7:05Speaker 2: flashbacks yep. And of course it would be a perfect
- 7:10Speaker 2: moment for McGregor to reprise his role as Obi Wan Kenobi.
- 7:16Speaker 3: And I especially think when we know Force Ghost Anakin
- 7:20Speaker 3: is going to be there, having Obi Wan as kind
- 7:23Speaker 3: of a foil as a Force Ghost could be kind
- 7:28Speaker 3: of cool.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Okay. So here's here's the thing though, Okay, Okay, so
- 7:32Speaker 2: this is where I kind of get in the shoes
- 7:36Speaker 2: of Snell. Okay, I'm so sorry to do this to everybody.
- 7:41Speaker 3: But.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I don't know how I feel knowing that we did
- 7:56Speaker 2: not have Ian McGregor Obi Wan Kenobe four Ghost in
- 8:02Speaker 2: Return of the Jedi. We do, however, have Hayden Christian
- 8:08Speaker 2: obi wan uh Anakin Skywalker. Oh okay, Return of the Jedi.
- 8:13Speaker 2: So that's what I mean. Like, if we were too
- 8:16Speaker 2: in some way get and Obi Wan Kenobi forced Ghosts
- 8:25Speaker 2: and it be Ian McGregor, I would have one of
- 8:28Speaker 2: those like nerdy moments of like, well, technically the little like,
- 8:33Speaker 2: I don't know if I would like it.
- 8:35Speaker 3: I think it's important to remember, right that George Lucas
- 8:39Speaker 3: has always interpreted the Force Ghost to be the purest
- 8:44Speaker 3: instance of themselves, like how they still pictured themselves. The
- 8:50Speaker 3: other thing that I think has been nice in Cannon
- 8:54Speaker 3: is the ghost has kind of manipulated itself to be
- 9:00Speaker 3: what the person viewing pictures it of. So in my mind,
- 9:06Speaker 3: because uh, because Ahsoka never saw Obi Wan Kenobi pass
- 9:13Speaker 3: Revenge six, she would never see old obi Wan kenob.
- 9:17Speaker 2: She okay, I never really thought of it like that.
- 9:24Speaker 3: So and that's why that's why Lucas went back and
- 9:29Speaker 3: changed the Force Grass of Anakin, because that was like
- 9:32Speaker 3: the most stable portion of Anakin's life.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But that's not how Luke Skywalker saw Anakin.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I like, obviously I think it's different.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, but I I but that's the thing, Like,
- 9:48Speaker 2: there would be so many people commenting on that particular choice,
- 9:58Speaker 2: and I think that it would be too convoluted to
- 10:06Speaker 2: make that choice. So I would say, for go with
- 10:08Speaker 2: the Force.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Ghost and just go with flashbacks.
- 10:12Speaker 2: But go with flashbacks now if you want to say
- 10:16Speaker 2: world between worlds, I don't care put Im McGregor in there,
- 10:21Speaker 2: because we've known that the world between worlds can take
- 10:26Speaker 2: people out of specific parts of the timeline. MM totally
- 10:31Speaker 2: down with that, and I'm totally fine with that. But yeah,
- 10:39Speaker 2: I just think it would be really weird, and I
- 10:43Speaker 2: would hate I would absolutely hate the press tour of
- 10:52Speaker 2: backtracking trying to explain it and all of this other stuff,
- 10:58Speaker 2: because then you just step on cottonnuity and all of
- 11:01Speaker 2: these other things and you just get into a whole
- 11:03Speaker 2: big mess. So avoid it altogether, fair.
- 11:07Speaker 3: But I also do think that if you just dyed
- 11:11Speaker 3: you and McGregor's hair white, I think you would come
- 11:14Speaker 3: pretty close.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I genuinely think you could.
- 11:19Speaker 3: All Right, y'all, we are going to hit our first
- 11:21Speaker 3: ad break and we will be right back in three
- 11:23Speaker 3: two one.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Especially since we've seen Ian McGregor with very short hair
- 11:33Speaker 2: m m like McGinnis. Yeah, so like, I think you could.
- 11:39Speaker 2: I honestly think you could.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I think you could too, and just manipulate it that way,
- 11:45Speaker 3: because obviously you're not gonna have MacGuinness shilling back up
- 11:48Speaker 3: as a force ghost in this.
- 11:50Speaker 2: But that was my other thing. I don't want to
- 11:52Speaker 2: see McGinnis ai either, but yeah, that's.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Well, and I think McGinnis passed at a point where
- 11:58Speaker 3: it's too like they would have to go to the
- 12:00Speaker 3: family for that, and he's very old school, like Star
- 12:04Speaker 3: Wars was like his rare case. Yeah, right, so I
- 12:09Speaker 3: feel like his family wouldn't agree to that. So I
- 12:15Speaker 3: don't think there's a risk of McInnis ai, especially when
- 12:20Speaker 3: you have you and McGregor so apt to do more
- 12:24Speaker 3: obi wan kenobi things. So yeah, it'll be interesting to
- 12:29Speaker 3: see if LUCASLM was like because I don't know if
- 12:32Speaker 3: McGregor did the Tom Holland thing or if it was
- 12:35Speaker 3: really like a misrepresentation of what he said, because again,
- 12:41Speaker 3: these are fan boy sites. People want to go viral
- 12:44Speaker 3: if they can, so I can fully believe that they
- 12:49Speaker 3: didn't quote properly and we're like, this is our chance, guys.
- 12:54Speaker 3: But I also wouldn't be surprised because LUCASLM has a
- 12:58Speaker 3: precedent going hey, like, we saw this reaction, what do
- 13:04Speaker 3: you think about joining in the fun the cell?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. So the next thing we have on
- 13:16Speaker 2: our list is something that I'm actually really excited for.
- 13:21Speaker 2: You shared a Star Wars Holocron tweet that says Disney
- 13:26Speaker 2: has made a deal with web Tune Entertainment that will
- 13:29Speaker 2: see existing in original Star Wars comics come to the
- 13:34Speaker 2: platform now, guys. Web tunes is a very very unique
- 13:43Speaker 2: way of reading comics. It actually changed the way that
- 13:49Speaker 2: like generation, they were like us, they.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Were like the first people to do like the smart
- 13:54Speaker 3: panel thing, right.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's what I was gonna bring up bring
- 13:57Speaker 2: along is web Tune's form Matt for reading comics is
- 14:02Speaker 2: not turning a page from left to right, like you're
- 14:08Speaker 2: not reading a book from left to right. You're actually
- 14:11Speaker 2: scrolling from top down. It is like you're scrolling through
- 14:18Speaker 2: a feed of any type of social media.
- 14:23Speaker 3: The view that I've read from web tunes, it felt
- 14:26Speaker 3: very like newspaper esque where it was like all in
- 14:29Speaker 3: a line. It was like three panels at a time. Basically.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very simple. And the reason why I love
- 14:37Speaker 2: web tunes so much is because it gave an opportunity
- 14:43Speaker 2: for people who love manga, who love comics, who love
- 14:48Speaker 2: any type of genre. Because even before web tunes was
- 14:53Speaker 2: an official thing, you had people making like fan comics online.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Those existed way before webtoons.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, fan fiction, fan fiction and.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Things like this. Web tunes gave these people a platform.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Of course, you can't use license things unless, of course
- 15:17Speaker 2: it's from the publisher. DC actually has two, maybe even
- 15:21Speaker 2: three webtoons comics on their site already, and I think
- 15:28Speaker 2: this is the first time Disney is actually going to webtunes,
- 15:31Speaker 2: because there is actually Marvel Unlimited comics called Marvel Infinity,
- 15:41Speaker 2: which took the format of webtuns and they have it
- 15:46Speaker 2: on their Marvel Unlimited app. Okay, so this is the
- 15:49Speaker 2: first time that they're actually going to webtunes as a
- 15:54Speaker 2: company and saying, hey, we'd like to partner with you
- 15:58Speaker 2: to make these original stories. And this only brings more
- 16:02Speaker 2: people to that website, which is absolutely amazing because there
- 16:07Speaker 2: is a genre for everyone on web tunes. You like
- 16:14Speaker 2: k dramas, there's web tunes for it. You like horror,
- 16:19Speaker 2: there's web tunes for it. You like comedy, there's web
- 16:22Speaker 2: tunes for it. You like actually an adventure, there's web
- 16:25Speaker 2: tunes for it. I love this site because it gives
- 16:30Speaker 2: people who always had the idea of like, oh, I'm
- 16:34Speaker 2: not good enough to go to DC or go to Marvel,
- 16:38Speaker 2: or at least like they didn't know how to get
- 16:42Speaker 2: towards that web tunes help them do that. Yeah, so
- 16:47Speaker 2: I really appreciate web tunes, so I'm really excited for this, and.
- 16:52Speaker 3: It does look like it's multiple eras of Marvel. It's
- 17:00Speaker 3: so Spider Man Captain America will be going to web
- 17:04Speaker 3: Tunes twentieth century. So these comics will be original comics
- 17:17Speaker 3: for web tunes, so there will be originals developed. But
- 17:20Speaker 3: it also looks like there's going to be like current
- 17:25Speaker 3: comics adapted to the format. So it looks like the
- 17:28Speaker 3: first one for Star Wars will be the Star Wars
- 17:32Speaker 3: run by Jason Aaron, which makes the most sense because
- 17:35Speaker 3: that one is the oldest that Star Wars has currently
- 17:39Speaker 3: in canon, and so it's just getting more eyes on
- 17:44Speaker 3: the format of Star Wars comics.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So yeah, uh, Katy, you want to take us to
- 17:52Speaker 2: the next one.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Yes, So the next piece of news that we have,
- 18:00Speaker 3: we have a lot of interviews, guys. There's a lot
- 18:03Speaker 3: of interviews happening right now. So mannyg just sent out
- 18:06Speaker 3: in another interview for Freaking Friday for BuzzFeed, uh praised
- 18:14Speaker 3: Leslie Headland and says Leslie Headland is the best. She
- 18:20Speaker 3: is my captain. She's a Star Wars, nerd Geek, all
- 18:23Speaker 3: the incredible things. I wish we could run it back
- 18:26Speaker 3: all credit to Leslie Headland.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Y'all.
- 18:28Speaker 3: We've said it before, We've said it again, Leslie Headland.
- 18:32Speaker 3: If Leslie Headland had been the dude, there would have
- 18:35Speaker 3: been no problems with the AC I think so ill
- 18:42Speaker 3: not in how she chose to adapt things. Let's just
- 18:45Speaker 3: say that, because you could have still seen critiques on
- 18:49Speaker 3: AMANDLA and oh my gosh, Lee Jong Jay, like, you
- 18:56Speaker 3: could have still seen criticisms there because people are just
- 19:00Speaker 3: going to be people and they're going to be racist
- 19:02Speaker 3: and sexists and stuff. Yeah, but a lot of the
- 19:06Speaker 3: negativity arounding the accolade is purely because fanboys don't know
- 19:11Speaker 3: how to handle a woman knowing just as much about
- 19:14Speaker 3: their beloved franchise. So we just got to reiterate, Leslie
- 19:21Speaker 3: Headland killed it and if you disagree, sorry you're at
- 19:25Speaker 3: the wrong place.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah. I I like this. I like how they are
- 19:32Speaker 2: holding strong to you know, what they believe and and
- 19:37Speaker 2: their team. No one is out there blaming this person
- 19:42Speaker 2: for this and that for this, Like they are a
- 19:47Speaker 2: unit and I love that so much. And yeah, I
- 19:50Speaker 2: really do hope oh, we'll go ahead.
- 19:53Speaker 3: And many has been the only one that's really gained
- 19:56Speaker 3: notoriety for his role, and that's unfortunate because a Manlat
- 20:00Speaker 3: and Legion Jay killed it, especially with the material they
- 20:07Speaker 3: were given. You can say like, oh, the writing kind
- 20:09Speaker 3: of struggled in places, but like the show as a
- 20:12Speaker 3: whole rocked, Like yeah, so Nanny gained notoriety for it,
- 20:20Speaker 3: but everybody was the big one. So it may look
- 20:23Speaker 3: like Nanny's the only one saying that he's here, but
- 20:27Speaker 3: the whole crew has backed her up basically, Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they have. And I wonder if, like if season
- 20:34Speaker 2: two and three of Squid Game would have gotten better reception.
- 20:40Speaker 2: I wonder if Lee Young Jay would have gotten a
- 20:42Speaker 2: little bit more coverage on the Accolyte as well well.
- 20:48Speaker 3: And I think the big thing with Swigging is even
- 20:52Speaker 3: though it got notoriety worldwide, it was still mainly Korean publications,
- 20:58Speaker 3: so a lot of the crew wasn't doing English based interviews.
- 21:03Speaker 3: That's and so Lejion Jay only learned English for this role, Like, yes,
- 21:08Speaker 3: he speaks English, but it was for the Acolyte, so
- 21:11Speaker 3: he may have chosen not to do interviews with English
- 21:14Speaker 3: outlets because it's a Korean show.
- 21:18Speaker 2: That's true. That's very true.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna go into our second ad break and
- 21:26Speaker 3: we'll be right.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Back next up we have Uh, this was interesting and
- 21:34Speaker 2: I want to know what your feelings are towards this one.
- 21:39Speaker 2: So Star Wars Clone Wars creator Gindy wait, is it?
- 21:45Speaker 2: How do you pronounce his first name?
- 21:46Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Okay, I'm just gonna wing it, Gindy, and I can't
- 21:52Speaker 2: even pronounce the last name. I was about to say
- 21:54Speaker 2: it like full confidence.
- 21:55Speaker 3: With your chest t Cardikovski.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Tartakovski says he's interested in returning to Star Wars to
- 22:04Speaker 2: oversee Assad Ventres's live action debut, saying, if she becomes
- 22:11Speaker 2: live action super cool, and if they asked me to
- 22:14Speaker 2: do it, that would be an interesting conversation.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So for me and I am still interested in hearing
- 22:23Speaker 3: your opinions on this. I did not like Assage Ventress
- 22:27Speaker 3: as much in his iteration versus what we got in
- 22:33Speaker 3: Clone Wars. Obviously Feloney picked and choose what he wanted
- 22:37Speaker 3: to bring forward in Clone Wars, so obviously you have
- 22:42Speaker 3: to give credit to Tartakovski. Is actually I prefer saying
- 22:50Speaker 3: got it versus first name. You have to give him
- 22:55Speaker 3: credit because he created one of the best characters in
- 22:59Speaker 3: Star Wars. But I like how Filone did her better.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I I would be totally down for him being involved.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Now does this mean he needs to write the script?
- 23:17Speaker 2: Does this mean he needs to direct? No, I'm saying, hey,
- 23:22Speaker 2: I would like him at the table to have creative
- 23:28Speaker 2: input on how the story goes, but not full control,
- 23:37Speaker 2: Like I think that giving him, Like, because I do
- 23:46Speaker 2: think there would be a small slap in the face
- 23:48Speaker 2: if we just see a Sage Ventures created by Ginnity
- 23:57Speaker 2: or Gindy Tartakovski or at the very at the very
- 24:01Speaker 2: end special things to Yindy Tartakovsky, Like, that would be
- 24:05Speaker 2: a little bit of slap in the face for him.
- 24:08Speaker 3: I don't even think they did that with Thron. No.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I don't think so either. Like, but but that's what
- 24:13Speaker 2: I mean, Like, I we know, but wait, don't we
- 24:19Speaker 2: know that? Uh? What's his name? Creator of Thron?
- 24:25Speaker 3: Uh?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yeah, to Bethison, we know that he had conversations with Filoni, right.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Right, But I think yes, we do know that. But
- 24:41Speaker 3: I think especially the characters of and I'm not saying
- 24:46Speaker 3: this to downgrade Assage at all. But Thron is a legend,
- 24:53Speaker 3: and I definitely and y'all, I'm sorry, but Thron, I
- 25:02Speaker 3: think they're on if. Basically, what I'm trying to say is,
- 25:06Speaker 3: if Thron couldn't get the adaptation that he deserved on screen,
- 25:16Speaker 3: even with Zoon consulting, what makes you think that Fulony
- 25:22Speaker 3: would even consider any creative input from Tartakovsky.
- 25:32Speaker 2: No, I I get it, Like I I I get it,
- 25:34Speaker 2: I understand, But like I, I understand, the there is
- 25:44Speaker 2: because of being a legend. Uh literally, he's in that's
- 25:53Speaker 2: that's you can literally call him that versus well, I
- 26:00Speaker 2: guess Assage is a legend also, but Thron has been
- 26:07Speaker 2: in legends far longer when you have when.
- 26:11Speaker 3: You have an author of such notoriety that he kept
- 26:15Speaker 3: Star Wars alive, and you can't tell me that he
- 26:19Speaker 3: did not keep Star Wars.
- 26:20Speaker 2: No, I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that, but
- 26:23Speaker 2: I am saying if we want to be fair, and
- 26:27Speaker 2: I understand life isn't fair, never has, never will be.
- 26:31Speaker 2: But if you give one creative the right to at
- 26:43Speaker 2: least bring them to the table to have conversations about
- 26:47Speaker 2: a character that they created, then you should be able
- 26:51Speaker 2: to do it with another creator. That's all I'm saying, right.
- 27:03Speaker 3: So to be fair, we have to we have to
- 27:08Speaker 3: point this out. Assage Ventures, according to wookie Pedia, was
- 27:17Speaker 3: actually created by John Ostrander for the comic Stars. Uh huh,
- 27:26Speaker 3: Star Jedi mace Wind. I am looking. We're gonna share screens, guys,
- 27:36Speaker 3: because and you're gonna see my tall screen. I apologize,
- 27:42Speaker 3: so I am looking. If I share my screen appropriately,
- 27:46Speaker 3: Oh gosh, that's awful. Hang on, We're gonna fix that
- 27:48Speaker 3: because that can't but that doesn't translate very well. Just
- 27:52Speaker 3: streaming hard. Okay, So we are looking on my horizontal monitor, guys. So, okay,
- 28:03Speaker 3: we have appearances and you can look here Jedi mace
- 28:09Speaker 3: Wind first appearance, and I'm on the Legends tab.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Okay, so it's for reference. So it's star Edgars mace
- 28:22Speaker 2: Wind Do.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Yep. So we're gonna scroll back down to appearances and
- 28:32Speaker 3: Jedi mace wind Do first appearance.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, and you can.
- 28:42Speaker 3: See here or you cannot see here because my mouth sucks.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Sorry guys. Yeah, okay, it originally showed it. Apparently he
- 29:01Speaker 3: doesn't want to show it anymore. But yes, so Turtokowsky
- 29:10Speaker 3: didn't even technically create her. So with that, I don't
- 29:19Speaker 3: even think that they would bring him in for consideration.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Do you know what's really funny about Sorry, I was
- 29:30Speaker 2: gonna say the really funny thing about Ostrander creating Assage.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Ostrander famously wrote the Suicide Squad created the Suicide Squad. Uh. Yeah,
- 29:50Speaker 2: So he is a very you know, a very notorietable
- 29:56Speaker 2: like writer. I and so when you said that, I
- 29:59Speaker 2: was like, Holy, I did not know that he created
- 30:03Speaker 2: Assage Venturess. I'm gonna have to go searching for that
- 30:07Speaker 2: comic now. I wonder if it's on Unlimited.
- 30:11Speaker 3: I would imagine it was on Unlimited while he actually
- 30:14Speaker 3: wrote all of the legacy comics. It looks like two
- 30:18Speaker 3: and we're about to jump into our third ad.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Y'all.
- 30:22Speaker 3: We promised we'll be right back, we promise. Did he
- 30:26Speaker 3: really Star Wars Legacy? Yeah? He wrote Donna the Jedda
- 30:29Speaker 3: and Star Wars Legacy.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, I'm gonna go searching to see if that
- 30:37Speaker 2: makes Winded comics on the Limited.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Right now, the legacy comics are. The legacy comics are
- 30:46Speaker 3: like the like two hundred years after Luke Skywalker has died.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Comic ah okay, okay, In in.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Case people didn't understand that.
- 30:59Speaker 2: So the mace Wind comic is a one shot and
- 31:03Speaker 2: it is in Marvel Unlimited. It was a comic that
- 31:14Speaker 2: was released in two thousand and three.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, So, especially with having a comic person create Assage,
- 31:24Speaker 3: I don't think they'll bring in Tartakovsky because he's type.
- 31:27Speaker 3: He may have given her the notoriety, but he didn't
- 31:30Speaker 3: create her, and that tends to lend more of what
- 31:37Speaker 3: Folony has looked for. I think.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Now that being said, now that I know that
- 31:46Speaker 2: Ostrander created a Sage, I would if I was Folony,
- 31:55Speaker 2: I would go to Ostrander. No, but like say, seriously,
- 32:00Speaker 2: so Gunn did the same thing with Suicide Squad, and
- 32:03Speaker 2: when he created Suicide Squad, he went to Ostrander so
- 32:06Speaker 2: much so that Ostrander had a cameo in Suicide Squad.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I'm not saying, yeah, so he's the Ostrander is the
- 32:16Speaker 2: like prison doctor that's giving the like placing the bomb
- 32:23Speaker 2: inside Michael Rooker's characters head. That's that's Ostrander. I would
- 32:31Speaker 2: I wouldn't say give Ostrander a cameo in a Star
- 32:34Speaker 2: Wars project because of it. But I would say, like, hey,
- 32:39Speaker 2: like let's say Assage gets like a two episode debut.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Give one episode to Filony, one episode to Ostrangder. As
- 32:48Speaker 2: far as.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Writing, yeah, apparently they actually wanted Ostrander to write an
- 32:55Speaker 3: episode of the Clone Wars, but was not hired because
- 32:59Speaker 3: the producer wanted writers with experience in TV animation.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Oh boooo boo.
- 33:09Speaker 3: He would have written an episode related to Quinland Boss.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Oh that would have been even better. H Now I'm
- 33:22Speaker 2: just mad. Well no, because like even even if you
- 33:27Speaker 2: look back at the uh the legacy, like the Donna
- 33:32Speaker 2: of the Jedi, I think it was like, no, it
- 33:34Speaker 2: wasn't Donna the Jedi.
- 33:35Speaker 4: It was.
- 33:39Speaker 3: He didn't write the novel, but he wrote on the comics.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Yeah right here, I actually had it opened just a
- 33:46Speaker 2: second ago. Uh. He was like a huge character. Yet
- 33:52Speaker 2: in the Star Wars omnibusses Voss was like a huge
- 33:57Speaker 2: part of that story.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, next we has right, Yes, the final bit
- 34:10Speaker 4: of news.
- 34:11Speaker 2: This one I think is a little silly. But Alan
- 34:18Speaker 2: Tudic recently did an interview on a podcast called the Playlist,
- 34:29Speaker 2: and he has said a number of things recently, like
- 34:37Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw like the big hubbub
- 34:41Speaker 2: about I Robot about him.
- 34:44Speaker 3: I actually have not seen I Robot.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Oh my, Katie, Katie, Katie. I'm actually gonna google it
- 34:56Speaker 2: right now to see where you can watch it for free.
- 35:00Speaker 2: But he said recently that in testing the movie I Robot,
- 35:09Speaker 2: like right before it like got released or whatever, he
- 35:13Speaker 2: got more of an audience score than Will Smith. Yeah,
- 35:19Speaker 2: and Will Smith didn't like that very much, and so
- 35:22Speaker 2: Alan Tudick's name got basically erased from publicity. Yeah, and
- 35:29Speaker 2: you didn't see his name until the end credits. It
- 35:32Speaker 2: was nowhere in the marketing nowhere. And he said, like
- 35:37Speaker 2: he's over it now. But he even said like, yeah,
- 35:40Speaker 2: like at the time, I was kind of pissed. But
- 35:44Speaker 2: he confirmed in this conversation also that all of the
- 35:51Speaker 2: heroes were always going to die in the original version
- 35:55Speaker 2: of Rogue One. So if people don't remember, Rogue One
- 36:01Speaker 2: was yet another probably one of the first when it
- 36:05Speaker 2: came to you know, all of these other Star Wars
- 36:08Speaker 2: movies that had people putting their little grubby fingers all
- 36:12Speaker 2: over everything. Ye, this was like kind of like the
- 36:17Speaker 2: first one in this new era of Star Wars. It
- 36:21Speaker 2: didn't look great, it didn't look like it was gonna
- 36:24Speaker 2: get made, and then all of a sudden, hey, we
- 36:26Speaker 2: saved the movie. Everything's fine now, blah blah. So there
- 36:32Speaker 2: was a lot of rewrites and everything else, and he's
- 36:34Speaker 2: just confirming that before the reshoots, everybody was already ORIZI
- 36:39Speaker 2: supposed to die. He said, We're always going to die.
- 36:42Speaker 2: So it didn't feel like a drastically different movie, but
- 36:46Speaker 2: the changes gave each character their own hero moment.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Also, in case anyone was curious, you could find
- 36:55Speaker 3: Eye Robot on Disney Plus or Hulu, whatever your preferred
- 36:58Speaker 3: provider is.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I was literally about to say that just now.
- 37:04Speaker 2: But here here's the thing that I have to say
- 37:07Speaker 2: about that. The reason why I think it's silly is
- 37:14Speaker 2: because regardless of if they were gonna live or if
- 37:20Speaker 2: they were gonna die, like at this moment, like, there
- 37:26Speaker 2: couldn't really be any other option, because again, it's the
- 37:34Speaker 2: you know, the same conversation we have. Oh, well, they're
- 37:37Speaker 2: not in future Star Wars stories, so they must have
- 37:41Speaker 2: all died. So that's that's really how I see it.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Like these characters. Also, you could easily have the argument of, oh,
- 37:52Speaker 2: these characters were not big enough to have a presence
- 37:56Speaker 2: in other large Star Wars movies, so they could have
- 37:59Speaker 2: just been forgotten heroes if they did survive.
- 38:04Speaker 3: And I wouldn't necessarily say that they're forgotten because like,
- 38:08Speaker 3: reading this Darth Vader comic this week actually reminded me
- 38:11Speaker 3: that I had Marvel Unlimited, so I was going back
- 38:14Speaker 3: and because I had left off in the middle of
- 38:17Speaker 3: the twenty fifteen Star Wars run, so I was like
- 38:20Speaker 3: actually going back into that and reading that. And you
- 38:25Speaker 3: actually have like Jason Aaron like is writes an arc
- 38:29Speaker 3: where they're on Jetta and the main characters are talking
- 38:34Speaker 3: about jen Urso and uh, Luke meets a character and
- 38:39Speaker 3: she's like, yeah, I knew jen Erso. If I hadn't
- 38:42Speaker 3: gotten sick with X y Z, then I would have
- 38:47Speaker 3: been on scaff with them. And Luke goes, you knew
- 38:51Speaker 3: jen Erso, like tell me about her. Like, so I
- 38:56Speaker 3: wouldn't necessarily say that they're like forgotten. I do think
- 38:59Speaker 3: it's a quote unquote meaningful death, like yeah, because like
- 39:07Speaker 3: they basically took that and went with it. Like originally
- 39:10Speaker 3: in Legends it Rogue one was not a thing, so
- 39:15Speaker 3: kind of Rogue Squadron was set up as something that
- 39:19Speaker 3: Luke just did, and then Wedge Antillities and his crew
- 39:22Speaker 3: just kind of ran with it. But then in canon,
- 39:27Speaker 3: Rogue Squadron has taken on more of a meeting and
- 39:30Speaker 3: to the point where that Squadron name gets retired after
- 39:34Speaker 3: the Rebellion becomes the New Republic, because that sacrifice still
- 39:40Speaker 3: meant something and they didn't want it stuck around.
- 39:43Speaker 2: I'm still reading that that the the oh Man.
- 39:51Speaker 3: What book is it called Courtship of Princess Leah.
- 39:55Speaker 2: No, not the Courtship. I'm still reading Bloodline that talks
- 40:00Speaker 2: about yeah that at the very beginning they talk about
- 40:03Speaker 2: retiring Squadron Squadron. And I'm still I have sixty two percent.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I'm done with sixty two percent. I still have a
- 40:12Speaker 2: little less than forty percent left. No, but I I
- 40:18Speaker 2: see what you're you're saying. I get that. But what
- 40:21Speaker 2: I meant is not that they're forgotten heroes now. But
- 40:25Speaker 2: what I'm saying is if they would have survived, and
- 40:29Speaker 2: for the fact that there wasn't any mention of them
- 40:34Speaker 2: too much of yes, of course the comic and everything else,
- 40:37Speaker 2: you could have easily explained it away of Oh, well,
- 40:41Speaker 2: you don't see them a whole lot because they kind
- 40:43Speaker 2: of retired after such a you know, important galaxy saving mission.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I can see that. I see what you're saying now,
- 40:53Speaker 3: and this should be our final ad break. So y'all
- 40:57Speaker 3: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. Well back.
- 41:02Speaker 3: I don't mind that everybody dies in Rogue one. It
- 41:07Speaker 3: hurts every single time I watched that movie, and and
- 41:10Speaker 3: Or just made it all the more powerful. But I
- 41:13Speaker 3: do think it makes sense and it gives everybody a
- 41:17Speaker 3: way out and still made the movie emotional without having to,
- 41:22Speaker 3: like you talked about, like explain away why they don't
- 41:27Speaker 3: exist in the original trilogy.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Now, Felony, I don't know how you found this podcast,
- 41:37Speaker 2: but I'm about to say something that just came into
- 41:40Speaker 2: my head, and I hope to God it doesn't happen,
- 41:46Speaker 2: because I've already mentioned it once this episode. I love
- 41:51Speaker 2: the concept of the world between worlds. I bring it
- 41:53Speaker 2: up as often as I can, But I swear to God,
- 41:57Speaker 2: if this whole rumor of there being a baby and
- 42:01Speaker 2: Or movie or TV show happens and you bring and
- 42:07Speaker 2: Or back to life via the world between worlds. I'm
- 42:13Speaker 2: gonna be very pissed. That's one I would That's not
- 42:18Speaker 2: an idea I support. It's just a horror that literally
- 42:22Speaker 2: came into my head when Katie was talking about how
- 42:26Speaker 2: it's a sad moment that everybody dies, and that and
- 42:28Speaker 2: Or made it even a sadder moment if it means
- 42:32Speaker 2: but don't do it, bloney.
- 42:35Speaker 3: If it makes you feel better. I don't think Diego
- 42:39Speaker 3: Luna would come.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Back good good, I swear to God. If they're like, oh,
- 42:49Speaker 2: this is the one thing we can recast, let's recast
- 42:52Speaker 2: and or Ah, I don't know why I put myself.
- 42:59Speaker 2: I mean, he did win an Emmy, like that is true,
- 43:03Speaker 2: that is true, but it's just it's a silly thought
- 43:07Speaker 2: that entered my head. And I was like, I really
- 43:10Speaker 2: hope this doesn't go into anybody else's head, at least
- 43:14Speaker 2: anybody else's head. That's important within lucasfilm, you know.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, that is it.
- 43:24Speaker 2: We didn't have much of anything else for news. We
- 43:29Speaker 2: shall wait and see what happens until next week.
- 43:33Speaker 3: But.
- 43:35Speaker 2: We do have Darth Vader issues one through twelve.
- 43:43Speaker 3: The twenty seventeen edition.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Yes, Charles Soul's Run twenty seventeen. Katie. I was so
- 43:50Speaker 2: tempted to just keep reading.
- 43:52Speaker 3: I know, I had to stop myself because I was like, okay,
- 43:56Speaker 3: but if I keep reading, you're going to reference things
- 43:59Speaker 3: prop plot live.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Yes, you're gonna start referencing everything and.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Guys, just to reiterate, I scan read, so if I
- 44:08Speaker 3: read something, I just go Okay. We talked about Darth
- 44:12Speaker 3: Vader getting his lightsaber, so Pasta dying, and then we
- 44:17Speaker 3: started into Darth Vader's getting hunted by people in Coruscan.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Like, okay, so here's here's the thing. I can scan
- 44:27Speaker 2: read a book. I cannot scan read a comic.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Oh no, Like I texted you, I forgot how good
- 44:35Speaker 3: the artwork is. I'm literally reading like a page like
- 44:37Speaker 3: four times to absorb the artwork. Because literally, if i'm
- 44:42Speaker 3: reading so like sometimes, like on the Higher Republic comics,
- 44:47Speaker 3: for instance, before we review them, I read through the
- 44:50Speaker 3: bubbles so that way I get the story so I
- 44:54Speaker 3: don't get spoiled by anything else.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Oh see, I'm the complete opposite. In a comic. I
- 45:00Speaker 2: look at the page before I look at any of
- 45:02Speaker 2: the words, Like I am seeing everything that's happening. And
- 45:05Speaker 2: I'm like, holy crap, how did this happen? And then
- 45:08Speaker 2: you read it and you're like, oh my god, Like
- 45:10Speaker 2: that's just that's how I am, so.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Like before we get into it, actually I want to
- 45:17Speaker 3: credit everybody, but finish your thought well.
- 45:19Speaker 2: And like the really bad thing about having that type
- 45:23Speaker 2: of mentality of like looking at a full page before
- 45:29Speaker 2: you read the words. There's some panels that are meant
- 45:34Speaker 2: to have like a dramatic effect, and so like for me,
- 45:41Speaker 2: I'm like, whoa, Like I don't get the context of this.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Oh well, and then I read it, I'm like, oh well,
- 45:49Speaker 2: kind of ruined myself there. Like the way that the
- 45:53Speaker 2: wording works and everything else, like the just the way
- 45:56Speaker 2: that you're supposed to read it doesn't work very well
- 46:00Speaker 2: if you look at the whole page. But I will
- 46:05Speaker 2: tell people do not use the smart panel on Marvel Unlimited.
- 46:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:17Speaker 2: The only reason why I say that is because you
- 46:21Speaker 2: don't get the full feeling of the book. Now. If
- 46:30Speaker 2: because this has happened before, if there is a crazy
- 46:35Speaker 2: page that you do feel like you're a little confused
- 46:39Speaker 2: on how the progression is supposed to go, smart panel,
- 46:44Speaker 2: read that page, and then turn smart panel off and
- 46:48Speaker 2: then read the page again with it in full view.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Especially because I scan read. You would think that smart
- 46:57Speaker 3: panel would be beneficial to me because I'm only looking
- 47:01Speaker 3: at one thing at a time.
- 47:03Speaker 2: He doesn't click too many times.
- 47:05Speaker 3: It doesn't work. And you say, well, Katie, you're holding
- 47:08Speaker 3: the omnibus if you're watching on YouTube. Well, yes, but
- 47:11Speaker 3: I'm a digital reader. Now, Okay, I have a bookshelf collection,
- 47:15Speaker 3: I have trophies. That's about it.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Go ahead and credit everybody within this uh one through twelve.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Yes, that is the nice thing about the Omnibus is
- 47:29Speaker 3: they have everybody listed, so I don't have to scroll
- 47:32Speaker 3: through Wikipedia. So okay, obviously writer Charles Soul, the penciler
- 47:38Speaker 3: uh is Giuseppe Camunkoli. Anchors we have cam Smith and
- 47:46Speaker 3: Daniel or Landini, David Cirell. For color artists, and for
- 47:55Speaker 3: letters we have Joe Carmogna. And then cover art we
- 48:00Speaker 3: have we will.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Show hold on, hold on Joe Karamanga. Does it not
- 48:06Speaker 2: say VCS in front of it?
- 48:08Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, I didn't. I thought that was just the
- 48:11Speaker 3: business like.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's like it sounded a little weird because
- 48:17Speaker 2: every Okay, so this is like a really funny thing that,
- 48:20Speaker 2: like most podcasters do is the VCS is just something
- 48:25Speaker 2: everybody says. So when you said Joe, I was like,
- 48:28Speaker 2: that doesn't sound right. Hold on, it's just it's just
- 48:36Speaker 2: a representation type thing. So I just was like, that's
- 48:41Speaker 2: not important. No, it's it's totally fine, it's totally fine,
- 48:44Speaker 2: but it is something just for future reference. Every like
- 48:48Speaker 2: every single podcast that I've listened to that reviews anything
- 48:54Speaker 2: that Joe has lettered always says VC's Joe Karamanga. So
- 49:02Speaker 2: when you didn't say it, when you didn't say it,
- 49:04Speaker 2: my brain kind of broke a little bit.
- 49:05Speaker 3: I was like, I'm sorry, let me do this for
- 49:07Speaker 3: the podcasting.
- 49:08Speaker 2: So if you want to.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Edit all that out, you can't. I don't know letters
- 49:17Speaker 3: VCS Joe Carmagna cover art. We have Jim Shoung, Matthew Wilson,
- 49:26Speaker 3: Oliver Kiple, and then Giuseppe Camunkoli and Francesco Martina and
- 49:35Speaker 3: that's everybody one through twelve.
- 49:38Speaker 2: What was that last one?
- 49:41Speaker 3: Francesco Martina?
- 49:44Speaker 2: Okay, So yeah, all.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Right, So I've already kind of summarized our plots. So
- 49:55Speaker 3: we have Vader gets his lightsaber and we meet the
- 50:00Speaker 3: introduction of the Brash Valve. That's one through five ish
- 50:06Speaker 3: six through ten is hunting Jocasta Nu and the death
- 50:12Speaker 3: of Jocasta Nu and everything spoilers sorry, probably should have
- 50:16Speaker 3: said that in advance. And then eleven and twelve is
- 50:19Speaker 3: the start of the next run or the next trade,
- 50:24Speaker 3: which is the Rule of five. So it's like some
- 50:29Speaker 3: Corrassanti top officials have basically been introduced to Vader and
- 50:35Speaker 3: are now basically put him on an assassination list kind
- 50:41Speaker 3: of thing.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah, well, let's kind of go in order. So this
- 50:52Speaker 2: basically starts, guys, where Darth Vader's story ends in Revenge
- 51:01Speaker 2: of the Sith. So there's there's there's two parts of
- 51:04Speaker 2: Darth Vader's ending in Revenge of the Sith. There is
- 51:07Speaker 2: the moment where he is being built and he yells no, right,
- 51:13Speaker 2: and then like you see all the other stuff happening
- 51:16Speaker 2: with uh the Jediobi Wan Kenobi Yoda, Luke, Skywalker, Lea,
- 51:22Speaker 2: all that, and then at the very end you see
- 51:25Speaker 2: Vader and Palpatine watching over the construction of the Death Star.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Yep.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Now this starts when he is yelling no, because we
- 51:38Speaker 2: were in that same room where he was being built. Basically,
- 51:44Speaker 2: and you get the conversation between him and Palpatine. I
- 51:49Speaker 2: really loved the way that Charles wrote this because there
- 51:59Speaker 2: is this like very.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Not so.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Like well, I'm just like Palpatine is so manipulative yep,
- 52:15Speaker 2: and just the way that he speaks, but also so
- 52:19Speaker 2: demanding and direct at the same time, like because he's
- 52:23Speaker 2: he's saying all these things about how Padame's dead and
- 52:25Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and they're you know, oh but you
- 52:27Speaker 2: said you blah blah blah blah, and like there's this
- 52:30Speaker 2: like sincerity of being a friend right with Palpatine. But
- 52:34Speaker 2: then he grabs his lightsaber. Uh is it his lightsaber
- 52:40Speaker 2: or does he like shock him? I can't remember which one.
- 52:42Speaker 2: He shocks him first, Yeah, he shocks him first, and
- 52:45Speaker 2: then he grabs his lightsaber and puts it up to
- 52:48Speaker 2: his throat. He's like, I'm your friend, but if you
- 52:53Speaker 2: ever try to attack me again, I will kill you.
- 52:56Speaker 2: And I'm just like, I love of how manipulative Palpatine is.
- 53:04Speaker 2: I hate like it all tends and purposes in every
- 53:07Speaker 2: iteration that you see him. You should always hate Palpatine.
- 53:11Speaker 5: All right, guys, We're gonna go ahead and cut to
- 53:13Speaker 5: our first ad break. Remember, we do not choose these ads.
- 53:16Speaker 5: We don't choose how many times they repeat themselves. If
- 53:18Speaker 5: they do, so go ahead and lower that volume and
- 53:21Speaker 5: we will be right back.
- 53:24Speaker 2: But he's written so goddamn good in this.
- 53:27Speaker 3: He's so good. Charles's Soul is like every time I
- 53:32Speaker 3: read a Charles's Soul comic, it makes me go, Man,
- 53:36Speaker 3: I'm so mad that I was not in comics growing up,
- 53:41Speaker 3: because like, it's such a good story, Like this was
- 53:46Speaker 3: one of the first comics I think I read, after
- 53:50Speaker 3: the Air to the Empire, or not the Air of
- 53:53Speaker 3: the Empire, it's it's the sequel too, Yeah, it's the
- 53:58Speaker 3: sequel ones in Legends with Chris, because that was like,
- 54:02Speaker 3: honestly the first comic I read. Yeah, and so getting
- 54:07Speaker 3: into this comic was awesome and like fully confirmed, like, Okay,
- 54:12Speaker 3: you're on the right path, Like this.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Is awesome if if you want, if you want more
- 54:21Speaker 2: Charles so goodness, Daredevil, But.
- 54:27Speaker 3: I hate Daredevil slash as sarcasm, I.
- 54:31Speaker 2: I know, Like that's that's the great thing about this conversation.
- 54:37Speaker 2: It's because I know the conversations we've had in the
- 54:41Speaker 2: gua and I'm just like, oh, but Charles sold to Daredevil.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Just wait until she sees that I know, and I
- 54:47Speaker 3: keep And every time we get back into comics on
- 54:50Speaker 3: the podcast, I go, oh, I have Marvel in the
- 54:52Speaker 3: mid like I should explore all these things like and
- 54:55Speaker 3: I get into it, but then I like stop, and
- 54:58Speaker 3: then I don't come back for like months.
- 55:00Speaker 2: See this is why I have this little widget on
- 55:05Speaker 2: my phone called a to do list, and I literally
- 55:11Speaker 2: have to press it for it to go away. And
- 55:16Speaker 2: if I don't do it, I don't press it.
- 55:18Speaker 3: That's what this is for you.
- 55:21Speaker 2: See it's bland exactly exactly. You actually need to write
- 55:26Speaker 2: something down on it. And so that's what I'll do,
- 55:29Speaker 2: Like if I forget, like same thing, I forget that
- 55:32Speaker 2: I have Marvel Unlimited. I I purchased Marvel Unlimited because
- 55:38Speaker 2: you had said, oh, we're gonna do all these things
- 55:40Speaker 2: on Marvel Onlimited. I'm like, okay, let me go ahead
- 55:42Speaker 2: and subscribe to it. And of course it was back
- 55:44Speaker 2: when I had like, like I set up an account
- 55:48Speaker 2: specifically when they were doing like some sort of special
- 55:50Speaker 2: deals so that way I would get it like cheaper
- 55:53Speaker 2: or whatnot. So like it was something that I could
- 55:57Speaker 2: literally forget and not be too hurt by it. Now.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I'm just like, there's so much I could be reading
- 56:04Speaker 2: right now two years later exactly, so, so I would
- 56:08Speaker 2: I would strongly recommend Charles Soul Daredevil for you. But
- 56:12Speaker 2: going back to the conversation with Palpatine, he is explaining, uh,
- 56:23Speaker 2: you know, the way things are now. During this time,
- 56:26Speaker 2: we actually see uh uh oh, I forget his name, Masamita.
- 56:33Speaker 3: He's having This is basically Anakin's introduction to the dark
- 56:38Speaker 3: side of the Force. Yeah, and but also like everything's
- 56:42Speaker 3: kind of ending on Correuspant for the Republic and becoming
- 56:46Speaker 3: the Empire. That's like the first like issue and a half.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm I'm not gonna go literally frame by
- 56:54Speaker 2: frame for every issue, but I did want to bring
- 56:57Speaker 2: this up because this is actually a very important part
- 57:06Speaker 2: of Star Wars lore because of how many times it
- 57:12Speaker 2: has been brought up in future projects of Star Wars,
- 57:17Speaker 2: the destruction of lightsabers. Yeah, and specifically, and I know
- 57:24Speaker 2: that there's debate over this, and I can't remember why
- 57:27Speaker 2: there was debate. I'll need to go back the lightsaber
- 57:31Speaker 2: that Masamita actually presents to everybody while he's like making
- 57:34Speaker 2: his declaration that they are free from the Jedi. Is
- 57:38Speaker 2: Yoda's lightsaber? Now, I am pretty sure there has been
- 57:46Speaker 2: like debate over whether this was Yoda's lightsaber or not.
- 57:52Speaker 2: But I remember when this was made, everybody's like, oh,
- 57:56Speaker 2: that's Yoda's lightsaber. But I feel like there was something
- 57:59Speaker 2: in the last five years since we've been on this podcast, Yeah,
- 58:03Speaker 2: that there was something that interfered with this conversation, like
- 58:07Speaker 2: with this particular comic. So I wanted to bring it
- 58:13Speaker 2: up because I know that it was a very important
- 58:15Speaker 2: piece of Star Wars lore that has actually brought a
- 58:19Speaker 2: whole bunch of people back to this run because of
- 58:23Speaker 2: this specific moment. Yeah, so I thought that was really cool.
- 58:30Speaker 5: I do.
- 58:31Speaker 3: I do think this is Yoda's lightsaber because we see
- 58:34Speaker 3: Yoda's lightsaber fall in Revenge of the Sith, and I
- 58:40Speaker 3: know what you're talking about on how okay does he
- 58:43Speaker 3: have a lightsaber later on? Which is confusing. I don't know.
- 58:50Speaker 2: I could remember like what it was, whether it was
- 58:54Speaker 2: a from a certain point of view story that we
- 58:58Speaker 2: had read, or something else in particular that contradicted this comic.
- 59:07Speaker 2: But I love that this search for Vader's lightsaber. We
- 59:17Speaker 2: learn what it is to become a Seth. We learn
- 59:24Speaker 2: that from Palpatine. He explains to him, Oh, well, you know,
- 59:31Speaker 2: well it was Vader that was like listening to Palpatine.
- 59:34Speaker 2: He's like, oh, Master, I understand. In order for me
- 59:37Speaker 2: to become a Sith, I don't just you know, receive
- 59:42Speaker 2: a lightsaber. It must be taken. And so he goes
- 59:48Speaker 2: on this mission to find a Jedi. Now, of course
- 59:56Speaker 2: we just had Order sixty six, so where they are
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: some time pickens here. But I like the way that
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Vader thinks yep, because he's like, okay, I know that
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: most of the Jedi are dead, so how am I
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: going to find a Jedi to take their lightsaber? Oh?
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: The baroshe Val, Well this is literally the first sign.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: This is where the baroshe Val was literally invented, was
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: in this comic.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: So and I like how Soul does it because he
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: still incorporates a Vader's point of view here because Vader's
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: basically working with the droid and the droid is running
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: the surgeon. He's like, what's the baroche Val? And Vader's like,
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: I don't have to answer your questions, and like, so
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: we still get the Vader persona, but then we still
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: get an explanation because the droid kind of furthers the
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: conversation is like, look, I know you don't have to
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: answer my questions, but it would be helpful, and so.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: If you want to find your answer, I need an
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: answer from you, basically. And but this is also where like,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: because I know that people were probably already when reading
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: this comic, oh, we're gonna have a We're gonna have
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: a lightsaber less Vader for how long? This is gonna
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: be kind of boring? Blah blah blah blah blah. At
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: the end of Visu one, we see how much of
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: a badass Vader is without a lightsaber. Then at the
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: beginning of Issue Too, he goes upon this freaking space
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: station where they are collecting freaking Jedi archives and stuff,
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: where he knows he can get the information about the
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Barrage vow. You see all of these Clone troopers, And
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: there's a moment where he gets to steal a lightsaber,
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: but it's only temporarily, and he knows that it's only
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: temporarily because he cannot keep that lightsaber. He knows.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Yeah, he finishes it and he drops it it's basically like, Okay,
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: I found a gun and I'm gonna use it until
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: it's no longer good than me. Yeah, Like that's basically
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: what this is.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: And again there's even a moment after he found the
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: information that is needed, he is able to grasp a
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: freaking grenade in the middle of the freaking air with
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: the force and keep it compressed so it doesn't explode
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: until the very last moment. Even when there's clone trippers
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: like bothering him. They're they're like, oh, he's you know,
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: this is a Jedi. Of course he's a Jedi. He's
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: using the forest, he used the lightsaber, like all these
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: different things, right, but like he uh, he said the
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: famous line, but not in the way that it was
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: first said I am no Jedi, but he said I
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: am not a Jedi, which is the most badass thing ever.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: He pushes them with the forest, cracks their necks, throws
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: the grenade and blows up the station.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Those panels by kmuon Coli awesome, like so good with
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: their grenade and everything, like just stepping through like you
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: feel like you're witnessing it on screen almost because of
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: how detail oriented like the art was and everything like
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Stue Herb.
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: All right, guys, this is our second ad break. Remember
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: we don't choose these ads. If you don't like them,
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: I'm sorry, it's not on me, but we'll be right back.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I also like the colors here. I like the shading.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: I like the specific choice of It doesn't happen all
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: the time, but it happens very rarely. There's this panel
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: in It's issue number two, page eighteen on the Unlimited app.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: You actually see Vader holding the the grenade while they
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: are talking to him, and he is slightly outlined in blue.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: And I like this because the coloring of the page,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: he would very easily blend into the background just because
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: of the way they shaded him. And so just that
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: rough that like not even rough, the very slight blue outline.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: You can even say, like, oh, it's you know, he's
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: probably using the force and they're trying to show it
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: in some sort of capacity for those of you watching
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: on YouTube. Yeah, there's this very light blue outline around him.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Really dig that. I love the way they do that, Yeah.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Because it's not there on the other panels. That's literally
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: the only one.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: Yeah, So there's that. But then at the very end
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: of that issue this, Yeah, it was. It was those two.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: That's the specific one that I was talking about. Though,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: we get the uh uh the identity of the person
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: that he is going to uh triumph find, which his
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: name is Karak in Phila.
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: We're just gonna talk about this whole entire like fight hunt,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: whatever you want to talk call it all in one,
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: because my god, this was amazing.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, this is so good. This is where
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: I was reading when I texted you, like, oh my gosh,
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: I forgot how good this art was.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: I love this. Also, is uh freaking Karak the same
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: species as the Blade?
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: I think so.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Because they look very very similar.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: Uh but he is a very fit individual, white beer
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: to grayskin six pack with a giant scar on his chest.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: And this dude is just.
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: Sorry. I just realized something. He's in Trials of the Jedi.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: What he's in Trials? He's the weapons master who creates
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: the armor.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I just realiz.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: Like, I pulled up his Wikipedia page so we could
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: like talk about him and everything is like Kirak and
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: follow was the Jedi of the Higher Public era who
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: was active when the Guardian Protocols went into effect due
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: to the Nighthill conflict, and I was like, what wait whoa.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: Whoa whoa wha wha wha wha wha wha wha wha
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: wait wait. This conversation just went an entire left turn
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: in a good way. Holy crap, hold hold on, hold on, okay, okay,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: small pit stop in this conversation, Katie, how did we
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: not recognize this too?
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: No?
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Two, He took the vow.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Why so okay? So. The next sentence was he worked
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: alongside Master Govina in the armory creating lightsaber blades. Due
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: to the urgency of the Niho conflict, he helped create
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: less ornate battlesabers, which is where I recognized, Hey, wait
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: a second, the droid Yeah and so, and he's, along
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: with Govina and fall A help design armor used by
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: the Luminous Nine to resist the Nameless Effect in their
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: mission to return the Nameless to their homeworld. Eventually, he
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: took the prarash Val and cut himself from the Order's activities.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: Eventually, but think about.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: If he's pissed off that buckets of blood died.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: That's what I mean. He could He could have regardless
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: of the story or the reports that the survivors of
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: the nine had told them. What if he felt so
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: bad thinking that his armor failed buckets of blood that
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: he took the vow because of it?
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: Dude, I'm like, now, like or what you can go
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: even as far as saying that.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: He took the vow because of the entire mission. Uh uh,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: I'm uh. I'm actually going to be putting spoilers right
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: because I well, the one thing, like everything else, I
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: don't really feel like it's huge spoilers, but what I'm
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: about to say is an actual huge spoiler. So I'm
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: actually going to write and.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: Apparently, Okay, so apparently he's in Legacy Vader issue six,
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: so we will be talking about him again.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: Yes, we will be talking about him again. So before
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: we see that, Katie, what if he sees that LSR
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: and Avar were forced to stay.
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: On Planet X.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: And sees that as a oh, my armor wasn't good enough.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, because they said, hey, you cannot reveal why we're
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: struck here. You basically have to go back and tell
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: people we died.
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: Yeah, Hey, guys, this is our third adbreak and we
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: will be right back.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: You know how long Charles Soul was holding this in.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: Well he did say, so, they said, and we had
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: picked up on some of it. That planning for this
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: was like in full effect for some time prior to
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: the release of the Light of the Jedi.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Correct, But for the fact.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: That they were planting the seeds here absolutely amazing.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: Insane insane, like I don't know how you go like, oh, yeah,
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna put this character in here, and like we
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: love it. Don't get me wrong, we love it.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: But now I need to know. I need to know
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: the actual reason. Now, Oh my god, see and see,
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: here's here's the problem. Here's the problem. Okay, I read
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: this back when it was releasing in two thousand and seven.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: I have consumed so much content from now, from from
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: from then until now. When that name appeared in Trials,
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: it meant nothing to me. But for people who are
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: for for people who were actually able to remember ship
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: like that, they were probably like, oh, oh my god,
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: and I kind of I'm kind of mad that I
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: was not one of those people to have that realization.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: This is a downfall of my skin reading is because
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: I don't catch these things until I look at a
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: summary page.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: Wow, that is amazing. Okay, and so now I'm gonna
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: put the.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: This is what you put on social media. By the way,
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: if we were good at social media, you can take
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: this snippet right here. Oh my gosh, he's in Shadows
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: of Starlight one. Also, by the way, Shadows of Starlight
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: one and Trails of the Jedi.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Okay, so Shadows of Starlight I don't remember, like at all,
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: so I'll have to well, no, no, no, Shadows of
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: Starlight is when he is actually that one I do remember.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: Is you actually see him helping create lightsabers. I remember that.
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I would bet. I'm gonna I'm gonna have to
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: pull out that is.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: I am pretty sure I remember that one. Like I
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: almost can visualize the the actual panels from that one
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: because I think he was, oh like, I'm keeping a
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: majority of this in but just putting the notations in
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: the actual uh shuts down below for people. So yeah,
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: that's amazing. I I am actually floored.
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: Yeah by this, that's him right there.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: I remember this. Yep, that's the panel. I yep, that
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: is him as a young man.
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: Yeah, because Hu Yang is mentioned here and he's there
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: the whole time. Basically he has.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: He has to be the same species as as the
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Blade for him to be this old.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: In this yeh or Aora, I could say Aurora as well.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Oh that's true. Yeah, that is very true. But movie
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: to sidetrack got totally sidetracked for a good reason. Very
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: very cool realization. So Katie, now that we got that
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: out of our system, this fight, this.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: Hunt, I think it even means more now with that context,
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: because you think he went through the Nihil conflict, the
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: Nameless conflict, where he had so many.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: Of his brethren die, like during the three years he's
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: had this feeling before.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: And I really love that conversation that he's having with
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: this droid. Uh.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: It is his Jedi training droid.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: Basically, yes, his name is uh. Do they not give
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: a name to the droid at all?
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: It just is our X.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, our X, so our X. He he tells
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: our X like, oh, I have felt this like feeling,
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: this dark feeling that all of my brothers and sisters
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: are gone in the galaxy, and now that darkness is
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: headed this way. And so when they are finally confronted,
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: he's like, oh, are you the one that slaughtered my
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: brothers and sisters. And Vader doesn't even say anything. He
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: literally just starts using the force to choke him and
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: he pulls away. He's like, no, no, you're not gonna
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: do this. You want me, You're gonna have to come
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: and get me. So if you, if you truly feel
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: like you're worthy of fighting me, you'll make it to
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: the top of this mountain and you will kill me.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: And so he has all of these traps set up,
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: and the first one is like this just flooding of water.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Vader very easily separates the water. Then he gets to
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: a point where there's a bridge and like these freaking
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: very large eagle falcon looking things hawks, and our ex
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: is like, I can blow the bridge. I can blow
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: the bridge right now? Are we gonna blow the bridge? Hey?
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: I Basically like this is like a he calls it
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: a Jedi training site. Yeah, and because it's a Jedi
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: monastery where he's at, so it feels almost like the
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: Acolyte in a sense because uh, what's his name takes
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: the brash valve at a Jedi facility. So that kind
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: of makes me feel better about the separation part of it,
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: where this has maintained consistency over the years where Infala
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: can basically go to a Jedi monastery, but it's a monastery,
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: like it's remote, like it's not directly connected anymore. But
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: this basically feels like masters could take their princesses here
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: and go, Okay, this is a training mission. You have
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: to go up this down basically yeah.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: And when he asks, uh, Karak, hey can I blow
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: the bridge, He's like, no, no more traps set him
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: on the way and uh Vader, when he gets up
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: top throws a giant rock at him and before Karak,
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: can you even get up the training Droidan's like, don't worry, Master,
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: I got him h And Vader just rips him apart. Yeah,
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: takes his training blade and throws him off the freaking
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: mountain correct very easily. Dismembers, Vader, gets rid of a leg,
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: shreds a hand, and then it's like, I'm gonna kill you,
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: Like this is what's gonna happen. But I know that
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: you could not have done this alone. You probably had
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: a master. So not only am I going to kill you,
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: I'm gonna go on my way return to home, and
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna go find your Master and kill him. Yeah,
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: so he throws Vader off the cliff, goes and finds
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: some neighboring people on the same planet that has his
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: his ship. He's like, hey, I need my ship. Please
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: get ready, kind of in a hurry, but take your time.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I think we should be okay yep. But that is
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: when Vader comes along. Uh, and like the dude is
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: so relaxed at the fact that he killed Vader that
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: he's like, oh, look at all these tricks with the
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: Force I'm gonna entertain. And all of a sudden, he
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: feels him. He feels him in the force. He's like,
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: oh crap, this can't be real. No, I killed you.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: What's wrong? Yeah, it goes outside because he.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Doesn't understand the machinery aspect of it. He's maintained remoteness
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: for one hundred years at least at this point, so
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: we're guessing.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: We're guessing because we don't know when he took the valve, but.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: Uh, it does. The only thing we know is that
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: he took the valve before Anakin went into the temple. Yes,
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: so we know it wasn't thirty.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: Years exactly, because I feel like, oh, well, I don't
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: know I don't know that that goes along with the
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: with the second part of our conversation with Chakosta. But
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: in this fight with Karak, this legitimate fight, now we
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: get to see a little bit more of the inhumane
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: part of Darth Vader because we see some security guards
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: confront them. Vader is like, fine, I'll just throw you
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: guys off this giant dam and Karak tries to save them,
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: and Vader's like, huh an exploit, let me use that
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: real quick, and literally destroys the entire dam. Karak is like, no,
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: your fight is between me and you, has nothing to
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: do with them, and Vader's like, that's where you're wrong.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: It is about them, and I know it's about them
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: because of you, and so now they will die because
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: of you. He literally crushes his neck, crushes the dam,
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: takes the lightsaber, and goes about his merry. Way. Now,
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: I did a whole lot of word vomit there explaining everything.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: So Katie, I actually want you to talk about the
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: next issue, which is the ending of this arc with
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: the actual explanation of the bleeding and the actual bleeding
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: of the crystal, and this.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: Should be our final ad break.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: So y'all.
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: Thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: right back, dude. So this part of it is really
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: awesome in the way that Soul articulates the war. It
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: not even articulates because at this point he's creating war.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: This is the first time that bleeding a crystal, bleeding
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: in Kyber Crystal has even been mentioned, and so Soul
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: just are he It's very artistic how he just articulates
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: this and creates this identity in Star Wars Cannon. It's
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: some mental legend for himself that is now like seen
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: on screen basically, and so like this Crystal actually gives
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: Vader a vision and it's.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Like, what if you chose not to do this, Katie.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: One of my favorite parts of charles Soul Run in
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: its entirety is the humanity that Charles is able to
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: give Vader, even though we literally just saw him be
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: as inhumane as possible.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: It's these moments that you like, just like in Obi
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: Wan season one, we got to see that small glimmer
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: of Anakin mm hmm. That's what you see in small
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: moments in Charlestoul's Run. It's so and this is literally
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: the first time we get to see that here.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: Yeah, because that vision basically takes Anakin on journey to
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: where Okay, what if I went.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: Back to Obi Wan?
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: What if I defeated the Emperor and basically said, uh no,
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: I'm not gonna do this. So it's just so good
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: how Charlesoul does this and adds that humanity like you said,
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: and even gives that humanity also to a Kiber Crystal
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: who's experiencing the pain of Vader trying to manipulate It's
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: It's utterly fantastic. And this makes me even more excited
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: to go into Charlestow's Star Wars run that he just
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: got done with his twenty twenty twenty run, because he
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: goes into the healing process of the Kiber Crystal with
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: Luke on the other end of it, and I'm really
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: excited to go into those issues now.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, I tremendously loved this issue in particular because, again,
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: like I said, one of the very cool moments of
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: the entire run, and I feel like it's something that
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: every writer then like tried to is not the right
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: word for it, because like I feel like it's everybody's
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: right to do their own interpretation of Vader. Yeah, but
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: like every single writer tried to do the same thing,
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: and some of them got it right, some of them
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: didn't get there quite so much. But this this was
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: amazing because there's so many people out there that are wanting, oh,
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: what if Star Wars got a what if? Like I
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: want to see a what if? And we get these
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: small little glimmers of hope within Vader because we know
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: all the way in the future of this timeline, he
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: eventually steps back, takes down the Emperor, and helps Luke
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Skywalker save the galaxy. Right that has to that Spark
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: literally was a tiny, tiny ember right here in this
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: part of the timeline, and just and you can legitimately
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: say that that ember just slowly built up until that
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: time of Empire strikes back. But I like you see
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: the emotion, not Nobi Wan Kenobi's face, the emotion in
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: just Vader's one eye that you see within his mask.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: Like it's so good.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: The art is so beautiful, the colors, the contrast between
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: the blue and the red and the black so good.
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: But we I like how you see like a very
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: small glimmer of red when he's trying to bleed it.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: And then the very next time you see Vader in
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: front of Palpatine, he ignites his lightsaber and it's red.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: M hm.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: I dug this. I loved this entire arc of taking
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: that lightsaber making it his own again. We we got
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: to nerd out a little bit on the actual character
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: that he stole the lightsaber from, which I absolutely love
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: as well. But the next arc is the Inquisitor, the
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: introduction to the Inquisitors, and the Jacosta arc Jecosta. Sorry,
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: it's it's all in one here. I love this now.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: The only thing that I was a little disappointed about
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: now again I will eventually see her again in this
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: exact run. My girl was not there when we first
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: are introduced to all of the Inquisitors. Uh, of course,
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: I'm talking about the character from Rise of the Red Blade. Yeah,
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: spoiler alert. She is in this run.
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: It is the.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: The ending of her story actually is in this Charles
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: Soul run of Darth Vader. But we are introduced to
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: the Grand Inquisitor. We learn again how manipulative Palpatine can be.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: The test, the constant testing that Palpatine is doing for
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: everybody that works.
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: Oh good, I love it.
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: I love to hate Palpatine, and writers and artists that
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: make that happen really make me love it a lot
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: more because so many times we see, especially at the
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: time where they these issues were published, where we were
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: trying to make relating to the villain a thing in
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: a lot of fiction pieces. And so I don't want
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: to relate to Palpatine. I want to get why he
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: is the way that he is, and I want a
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: good story about the way that he is, but I
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: don't want to relate to him. And Soul does that
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: so well, Like I know why Palpatine is the way
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: that he is, I don't want anything more than that. Yeah,
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: and he does it perfectly.
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: So in this we.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Are introduced to the Inquisitors, but the Inquisitors are also
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: introduced to Vader, and this is an ongoing thing as well.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: This uh, this idea that Vader is still very unknown
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: to the rest of the Empire. I really dig this
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: because Anakin Skywalker Darth Vader was such an important role
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: in Palpatine's takeover of the Republic, and yet Vader is
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: like a nobody to most of the Empire, which is
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: absolutely insane.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: It's hysterical because you think, hey, if I knew who
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: this person was. If I knew that he was Anakin Skywalker,
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: I like these people, these members of the Empire, would go, oh,
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: I respect Vader so much more because of who Anakin
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: Skywalker is. So it's interesting to give that perspective. Obviously,
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: you don't want people to know, like, hey, Anakin like
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: Vader was Anakin because he was a Jedi. You don't
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: want that. Uh, so you can't really do that, but
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: just imagine like, oh, we got Anakin on our side
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: kind of thing.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: Well, no, because like even there was uh there's a
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: moment in the in the second issue where he's going
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: on too that space station where one of the Clone
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Troopers is like, oh man, I haven't seen flying like
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: that since and somebody's like, don't even say it. The
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: Jedi are dead. Everybody knows. Everybody in the entire galaxy
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: knows the best star pilot of all the Jedi was
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: Anakin Skywalker yep. And so even the Clone Troopers like
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: could recognize that.
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: And so with this.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: The questioning, oh, well, you know, why are you so special?
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: Blah blah blah, and then Palpatine even says his word
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: is my word. If he says something, you do it,
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: it's just assume that it's a it's a direct order
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: from me, and you can kind of tell how it
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: gets under people's skin. And a lot of times when
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: freaking Palpatine himself is saying this, when Vader is explaining
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: this to people, people are upset because it looks like
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: this guy out of nowhere is just all of a
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: sudden the top dog of the empire. Now, like, are
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: you kidding me? Like, I've worked so hard to get
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: where I'm at, I've stepped on toes, probably killed people.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: But yet this person gets to stand right next to Palpatine,
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: and I think that is so good. I think it's
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: actually really really fun. It gets this idea, especially with
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: the last arc of what we're going to be talking
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: about the beginning of the assassination attempt and this.
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: Should be our final ad break. So y'all, thanks for
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: Because that introduction that Palpatine does basically leads into the
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: assassination attempts, and just to kind of finish up the
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: Jocasta news stuff. I love how she made a library
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: of what she knew. She was the most studied Jedi. Yeah,
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: because she led those archives, and so she spent time
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: making a new archive that could be found by the
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: future of the Jedi. And I see Luke does find that.
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: And I was gonna say, like, I think it's really
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: cool that at the very end of that particular issue
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: there was an actual time jump, but only for those
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: few panels. And so as soon as you see that
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: rock being lifted, you see Luke Skywalker's face, it gives
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: you an idea of like, oh, this is where he started.
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: He probably started his academy here, right, So I really
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: dig that. I think that's super fun. I also like
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: the idea of her going back to Coruscand and finding
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: this very important list, this codex if you.
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: Will, of the future of the Jedi Order yep, and
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: still curious as to how that's a thing.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: Well, I think that there is. Well I guess that
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: is a little convoluted, if you will, because for all
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: we know, for all we've known is as soon as
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: the Jedi find people who are of age and you know,
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: uh for sensitive, they take them. They're like, hey, yeah,
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: uh they're ours now, peace out and they'll be a Jedi. Now.
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: Is it possible? Did they specifically say children in this list,
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: or did they say future Jedi because this list could
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: be for sensitive people who were not of age.
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's the same list that
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: Palpatine steals with Cad Baye in Clone Wars.
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: Okay, so that's my theory.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's interesting. Actually, okay, I I you know what
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: talking about this? I love one we have a droid
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: that scans biometrics and is able to identify Lord Vader
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: as Anakin Skywalker, and then Anakin Darth. Vader is like, oh,
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: can't have that. I gotta kill you, throws his lightsaber
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: and the Droid's like, come on now, I'm a security
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: droid that's supposed to, you know, supposed to secure all
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: of these archives. I know a thing or two about
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: Jedi fighting. That was wild. I like my jaw dropped
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: from reading this again because again it's there's a lot
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: of stuff that I that I forgot, honestly, so seeing
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: this was actually really really fun. But one thing that
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: I genuinely forgot was a weapon that I need to.
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: See in live action, the lightsaber gun.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: The lightsaber gun, and no I am not saying Ezra's
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: blaster blade No, this is a rifle that you literally
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: place your lightsaber inside the chamber locket and it uses
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: that as a power source.
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: Which makes it because the vectors use the lightsabers to
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: power to drive.
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: This essentially.
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: Is like.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: A death star in your hands because death stars are
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: created by kyber crystals. And she uses it to try
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: and fight Vader. Uh saying all these things about Darth Vader,
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: about Anakin. It's like, oh, so this is what all
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: of the silent moments that Obi Wan Kenobi had we're
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: really about, like really just jabbing at Vader. I'm like, girl,
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: you do not want to be doing this with Darth
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: Vader like anybody else I could see. You know, you
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: piss off Darth Maul cool. He's arrogant enough. He's gonna
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: slip up. You do this with any other sith Kylo Rin,
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: He's gonna get angry. It's gonna knock him off his game.
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: Yep, you do this with Darth.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: That's scary. That is a scary thing to do. But
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: eventually this lightsaber blaster rifle melts because it runs out
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: of juice. The kyber basically explodes within itself.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the lightsaber melts and so the rifle
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: is still around.
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: Yeah. But then like, yeah, but she she like rigged
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: it to explode, that was the thing. Yeah, So like
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: it's immediately started beeping. She pushed it. Uh. Well, well,
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: I think it was Vader who actually pulled it with
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: the force to try to take it away from her,
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: not realizing that it was also an explosive, and then
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: he immediately pushed it away. It exploded created a giant
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: hole in the wall.
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: And then like this was even scarier because like Jacosta
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: jumps out and she's able to steal a random lightsaber
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: that was on the wall, and she jumps down starts,
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: you know, deflecting all these blaster bullets or whatever. And
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: then somebody one of the stormtroopers is like or one
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: of the Clone troopers looks up, is like there's another Jedi,
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: and they all start shooting at Vader. I'm like, that
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: dude is not only getting demoted, that dude is dead.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: That dude is going to die later in cannon ya
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: because like even Vader is like, why did nobody give
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: a description of who this might be? Now, granted, I
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: don't think Vader said anything about who it was, because
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: one of the one of the troopers actually says like, hey,
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: why is there so many of us needing to stand guard? Yeah,
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: He's like, oh, were you here that night of Order
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: sixty six? He's like, yeah, like we were here. He's like, well, yeah,
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: those Jedi you may have missed some. He didn't say
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: anything specific. That's Vader's fault.
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: Not giving a description is Vader's fault, not the clones.
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: So I thought that was funny. But they're able to
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: capture her. And again, guys, we got that glimmer of hope,
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: that very small ember of the humanity of Vader. But
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: that's not what Vader's about. Vader is also about the inhumanity,
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: the turn to the dark side, what makes him the
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: right hand of Palpatine. And so when they're on this
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: ship on their way to Palpatine, Jecosta is like, hey, like,
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: you want to say all of this dirty stuff to me,
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: like calling me a dirty Jedi and a trader and
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: all this stuff. Are you guys idiots? You got a
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Jedi right next to you. This is Anakin skywalker yep.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: And Vader takes out the whole crew. He was like, oh,
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: have that boom. He knocks them out of the freaking
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: ship and he tells her He's like, they're dead because
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: of you.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: And I love how you still see a glimpse of Vader,
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: like you still see a glimpse of Anakin. Yes, he's
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: still doing it because he doesn't want to be replaced
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: as the dark Side apprentice, but him destroying that list
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: is definitely a best of both Jedi and Sith Anakin.
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: I feel like, so this this is where like I'm
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: not entirely sure I would say that this is a
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: necessarily like Anakin Vader thing. I think this is a
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: pure Vader thing.
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: And I'm not saying it isn't, but like knowing like, okay,
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: these people could come in and replace him is a
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: Vader thing for sure, but also like, okay, let these
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: kids be kids. Like I feel like that's something that
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: Anakin would have wanted to stick by, which is why
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: I'm like, okay.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: Yes, yes, Like like you could you could probably say, yeah,
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: that little ember we were talking about, maybe there's a
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: little bit of humanity within crushing that list, but it
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: is a hey, there's a rule of two, and if
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: there's others, I can be replaced. And I'm telling you
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: right now I will never be replaced.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: Star Wars Kids Kids.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: Is hysterical. Adrian, Adrian is in the chat. Adrian would
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: miss you too. We have a proposition for you that
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: we have just kept forgetting to send you a message
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: about because Clay and I are, Adrian says, my favorite
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: Vader comics are definitely when he folds back little Boy Annie.
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: Sabine brings a different Vader to the mix in the comics,
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: for sure. I have not finished the ones with Sabine,
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: so I'm interested to see how that plays in because
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: I didn't finish it. I got to the point where
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: she gets kind of accepted in the fold. These are
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: the Greg pat comics he's talking about, and so I
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: need to I need to go back and read those.
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: He says, omj if you love Anakin coming back, and
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: you'll love it. Now that I have remembered, I have
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: marvel on themit and I will probably speed through a
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: bunch of them again.
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: So but one thing that I actually really love, not
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: only with the destroying of the list, but there's a
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: moment where where Jacosta is like, uh, the whole list
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: is so that way public team can make more of you.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: And that's why Nevillie destroys it is because I don't
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: want to be replaced. I don't there there is no
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: more of me. I am the only one. That is
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: what he is saying with destroying the list. But when
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: she is like what do you want? Like what do
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: you want? Boy?
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: I love that she calls him a boy. He kills
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: the troopers and then she's like, okay, and what's what's
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: gonna happen to me?
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: What are you gonna do now? And all you see
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: in that panel is the glow of red. I love
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: that because again it shows how far Anakin has fallen.
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: It shows the true Darth Vader feeling here. And then
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: he tells Palpatine, Oh, yeah, she died. She died in
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: this whole thing here. I I didn't hear anything from
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: her and I didn't get any information. Better luck next time, Palpatine.
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and this should be our final ad break. So y'all,
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: right back.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: Yeah. And so the next small arc beginning of an
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: arc really is the assassination and we and we mostly
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: talked about that. The idea of the introduction to Vader
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: to the Empire is what gets this assassination attempt really
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: on its way. We see Vader going into this bar
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: because of their being a possible with Jedi sighting and
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: the Ninth Sister famously also being a part of the
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: Jedi Survivor series on PlayStation. She asks Vader like, what
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: are you even doing here? Like it's one?
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: Why do one here?
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: Like because because she explains, like most of these are
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: really just false alarms. Somebody will say that they saw
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: lightsaber when it's actually just some sort of like uh
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: uh saw like light like saw or whatever, So like
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: this could just all be a false alarm, Like why
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: why are you spending the time to do this? And
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: she's like, oh, I get it, Like you're here in
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: case we get lucky, Yeah, because you're dying to get
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: your hands on a Jedi.
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: Yeah, And this one is super interesting. I kept wanting
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: to go further into this run or this trade, and
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: I was like, I can't do it because I will
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: talk about everything else related to it. So I'm interested
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: to remember how this one is continuing as like when
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: we go to read it next month. But I love
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: how this starts off and we get a bounty hunter
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: group that is basically in charge of taking his lightsaber
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: and trying to kill Vader and the daughter in this
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: to Charanta, I think it's her name. She makes an
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: appearance in Hidden Empire. I thought she was the Bounty
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: Hunters girl, but she is not the Bounty Hunter's girl.
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: She just makes an appearance in Hidden Empire. So there's
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: your connection there because I remembered her more than I
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: did everything else that kind of happened in these two issues. Yeah,
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: but getting those details and seeing how Vader continues to
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: flesh out the inquisitors, because while Soul didn't create the inquisitors,
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: he built a lot of them from scratch into what
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: we have currently today because you had rebels and then
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: you've had this run. So it's just really good storytelling
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: all around, just to build those stories and set other
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: writers up for success along the road. Like Delilah s Dawson.
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: Obviously we haven't seen her inquisitor yet, but like we
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: know later on, like she's in this run, and so
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: like you can't do that unless you have a really
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: good footing on which to tell a story, and I
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: think Soul does that really well.
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, but like one, so I like the strategic
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: Vader that we see a lot that we haven't really
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: talked about too much because we've been more along the
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: conversation about like the badass Vader and like the humanity
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: side of Vader, the inhumane Vader, the strategic Vader. Here.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: I also like because some of us, I think there's
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: a lot of people that see Vader as just like
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: this bloodthirsty machine a lot of the time, which is
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: true in some cases. But he has a good head
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: on his shoulders. Yeah, he used to be called a general.
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: Like there's a reason for that. And so in this
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: issue where he's talking to this family, like he even
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: like he stops them, and he doesn't immediately just like
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: try to kill them. Yeah, Like he's like, who hired you?
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: Why are you trying to kill me? He wants to
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: get answers. If he was just a bloodthirsty machine, he
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: would kill first, ask questions later.
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: Yep. And he still cares about the kids because originally
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: he was going to kill the entire family. But then
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: like when the mom goes yeah, but like if you
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: just kill her, like I'm not gonna give you anything,
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: then he goes okay, like and I can see you
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: letting the kid live. I think that's a standard in
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: Vader storytelling. Obviously Jedi Temple kids aside, He's still if
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: kids are roped into something that's not in their control,
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: I feel like he's like, yeah, well.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: No because you Because I think, more so than anything, like,
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: Vader has a backstory Anakin. Anakin lived a whole life,
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: and Vader uses that life, the good and the bad,
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: to further his power as a Sith.
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and so.
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: Knowing that he was a slave, knowing how hard it
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: was with you know, only one parent, and all of
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: these other things, like, you have to remember that he
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: lived these things. So like the decisions he's making with
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: this family keeping the girl alive, you have to put
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: that in perspective, right, And so I really like that.
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: And and it's it's layered. It's not something that you
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: literally just see and it's written in plain sight for you.
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: You have to think of Vader not only as this
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: individual that's on this panel, but everything that he's gone through,
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: even as a kid being Anakin. Yeah, and so I
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: really dig that the family tells him that this bounty,
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: this kill order was made from the very top. And
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: I love the progression of the panel here because when
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: she says at the very top, the panel that you
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: see is Palpatine. And I love this more so on
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: a technical writing scale, because narrators are not always reliable. Yes,
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: and so you plant to seed, whether it be on
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: purpose or on accident or whatever. But like you see that,
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: and you're giving the narrative to the reader. Oh, this
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: is another test from Palpatine, And they immediately address it
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: the very next issue, because Vader does confront Palpatine, is
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: this another test? Did you do this to me? And
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: Palpatine's like, no, I don't know who did this. Well,
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: if it's from the very top, then they must have
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: had so much security and blah blah blah. But I
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: absolutely love how Vader finds out and he doesn't even
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: find out really Yeah. Because also one small, very small
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: minute thing that we skipped over in every panels or
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: not every panel, but every arc so far we see
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: it at least once in every arc. We see what
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: Vader sees himself at in the Force.
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: Oh yeah, like the little like chaos spinning the thing.
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: The silhouette of himself of being pure like chaos, dark
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: side energy. But like you notice how his entire body
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: is not that, because those are his limbs that are
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: literally cut off. Those are not part of him. So
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: I love the attention to detail with that. But he
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: is super focused within the force right now, sitting up
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: in his little room, meditating, and he's able to get
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: a sense within somewhere in corriuscant of this conversation that's presiding. Yeah,
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: And this conversation is happening at this place called the
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: Room of Masks in the the Uskru district, and it's
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: these two people you don't know their faces, and they're
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: having these conversations about Vader about how he's just all
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: of a sudden showed up. He has all of this
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: like high security, and we were not entirely sure like
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: who brought him up, but he basically what I was
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: saying before, like, oh, he can't just be Palpatine's right
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: hand after we've worked so hard, blah blah blah. Right, yeah,
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: And so he does get a small glimmer of something
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: that had happened in a prior issue and he actually
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: got mad at somebody and he was forced choking them.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: He's like, ah, I see, And the very next day
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: Palpatine assembles all of the superiors in the uh, I
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: feel like in coorissant. Really yeah, And this is where
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: he introduces Vader. He explains to everybody, Hey, this is
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Darth Vader.
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: He is Lord Vader.
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: He is Lord Vader. Yeah, this is Lord Vader. He says,
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: here he speaks with my voice. A command from him
- 1:59:23Speaker 2: is a command from me. Pass this information to your men.
- 1:59:27Speaker 2: All must understand. And so he backs up, and then
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: Vader starts naming off these people. He says, Pharaoh, Bengen, Steffi,
- 1:59:38Speaker 2: and Azarus. And you see like this dude, like sweat
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: and bullets. You see one girl like moving her eyes like,
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: oh crap, what's going on? And he says, I just
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: I love this panel progression. He says, two attempts have
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: been made on my life. Evidence suggests a conspiracy within
- 1:59:59Speaker 2: the Imperial Officer. I do not yet know the precise
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: individuals behind these attempts, although I have my suspicions. It
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: does not matter. I will always survive every time. I
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: will survive. But five of you chosen at random, and
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: he clutches his fists, and all of those people that
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: he just named dead immediately, yep, will not. And he
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: is doing this as a show of force a show
- 2:00:29Speaker 2: of power, saying, hey, you guys want to try to
- 2:00:32Speaker 2: keep trying to kill me, bring it, keep doing it.
- 2:00:36Speaker 2: This is what's gonna happen to every single.
- 2:00:38Speaker 3: One of you. Yep.
- 2:00:40Speaker 2: I love it.
- 2:00:44Speaker 3: It's so haunting, and it just showcases what a villain.
- 2:00:49Speaker 2: Vader is because, like again, like at the very end,
- 2:00:54Speaker 2: like this literally ends with another page of him meditating
- 2:00:59Speaker 2: him his true self and like the menacing look because
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: you see what he sees himself as. And then the
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: very next page, very first panel, you see Vader in
- 2:01:11Speaker 2: the same red light of his lightsaber. He's so angry
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: and he cracks the glass, and that's how the twelfth
- 2:01:19Speaker 2: issue ends. I love this so far, and I love
- 2:01:24Speaker 2: this when it came out. I did not pick this
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: up until the beginning of the introduction of the Inquisitors.
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: I think that was Issue six was when I first
- 2:01:36Speaker 2: started to grab it, and then I had to go
- 2:01:38Speaker 2: hunt for issues one through five, which was absolutely insane
- 2:01:42Speaker 2: to do because everybody and their mother was reading this
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: comic at the time. They're like, oh my god, Darth
- 2:01:48Speaker 2: Vader is such a good comic. You couldn't find issue
- 2:01:50Speaker 2: number one anywhere. Yeah, this book is absolutely amazing and
- 2:01:58Speaker 2: I cannot wait to finish.
- 2:01:59Speaker 3: The rest of it with you, yep, which will be
- 2:02:03Speaker 3: in the middle of September.
