Speaker 1: We should be there.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: Well, you know it's funny.
• 2:14
Speaker 1: You should bring that up because I was thinking when I found out that Mr Morris had scheduled these fine folks.
• 2:20
Speaker 1: You know, next year at this time they'll give us enough lead time that we could pack the car and get up there, pack our rat ride.
• 2:29
Speaker 1: Well, we don't have one, but we could go to Mitchell, nebraska.
• 2:33
  Speaker 1: Population 1,527.
• 2:38
Speaker 1: I did my homework.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: It's part of the Scotts Bluff Nebraska area between Denver and Mount Rushmore.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: You know it's probably a very prettyottsbluff nebraska area between denver and mount rushmore.
• 2:46
Speaker 1: You know it's probably a very pretty country.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: It is, yeah, so let's go up there now.
• 2:50
Speaker 1: Now, first of all, before we talk to them, we have to tell you that we checked out our video signal with them up there and it ain't too good.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: Well, they're out in the middle of nowhere they're in the plat.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: They're in the plat, and so we decided we're going to have them on the phone with us this morning.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: But we've got some pictures and some slides that we're going to put up as we talk to them, so let's talk to them now.
• 3:11
Speaker 1: Jake Donahoe, media specialist.
• 3:13
Speaker 1: Paula Sonata, secretary, rats on the plat.
• 3:16
Speaker 1: Good morning, jake and Paula.
• 3:20
  Speaker 4: Good morning.
• 3:21
Speaker 4: How are you guys?
• 3:21
Speaker 1: Well, we're doing very well and obviously you're doing a lot better than we are because you're out in the sunshine up there.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: What's the temperature up there right now?
• 3:28
  Speaker 1: Do you know?
• 3:28
Speaker 1: Give me a guess.
• 3:32
Speaker 5: Probably about 80-something, and humid right now.
• 3:35
Speaker 5: Oh, I like it at least.
• 3:36
  Speaker 1: I got you 80.
• 3:37
Speaker 5: We got a bunch of rain last night.
• 3:39
  Speaker 1: Oh, you did.
• 3:47
Speaker 5: Oh, yep, I know my driveway was a mud pit this morning.
• 3:50
  Speaker 1: A mud pit.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: Yeah Well, now this event is August the 15th through the 16th, so about a month, about what?
• 3:58
Speaker 1: Four weeks away or so?
• 4:00
  Speaker 4: Yep.
• 4:01
Speaker 1: Yeah Well, whose idea was this?
• 4:04
Speaker 5: yeah, yeah, well, uh, who, whose idea was this?
• 4:08
Speaker 5: Honestly, there was a uh rat ride car show here before.
• 4:16
Speaker 5: Um, the gentleman that hosted it decided that he was ready to retire.
• 4:18
Speaker 5: So my husband and I actually took it over and rebranded and, you know, just decided to keep it going because it was something that we loved.
• 4:28
Speaker 5: And sure, jake happened to move here and help, helped out with it, and we have, you know, a lot of other great people on our, our board of directors, and without them we couldn't do any of this.
• 4:40
Speaker 5: But it's just, it's been a passion of ours for a hot minute.
• 4:45
Speaker 1: How many folks usually either attend or actually participate in the event that are registered?
• 4:55
Speaker 5: Last year was our first year and we had over 100 cars.
• 4:59
Speaker 5: Last year Nice, and as far as that goes, that's not just rat rods.
• 5:03
Speaker 5: We don't discriminate, we do shinies, we do.
• 5:05
Speaker 5: You know we have some young kids in the valley that they like to come play too, so they register it.
• 5:13
Speaker 5: We'll let them play.
• 5:15
  Speaker 1: Well, absolutely.
• 5:16
Speaker 4: Side by side, all of us.
• 5:18
Speaker 1: So I understand that.
• 5:19
Speaker 1: Figure eight mud track, concrete burnout pad with bleachers and safety netting.
• 5:26
Speaker 1: All-day burnout sessions, all right, and I guess the tire truck is sitting right outside the facility there to reload the wheels.
• 5:37
  Speaker 1: Anyway, tool giveaways.
• 5:39
Speaker 4: We don't have a sponsor yet, but if you know somebody, send them our way.
• 5:42
Speaker 4: We'll definitely make use of their product.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: Okay, well, we'll do that.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: You're speaking to the world right now, so maybe somebody will step up.
• 5:50
Speaker 1: They know how to get a hold of you, I assume, because is the website ratsontheplatcom Correct?
• 5:58
Speaker 1: It is Rats on the Plat and, by the way, just so everybody knows, the plat is spelled P-L-A-T-T-E.
• 6:06
Speaker 1: Just want to get that straight.
• 6:08
Speaker 1: Let's see food trucks and I love the accoutrement afterwards Food trucks that left empty and grinning.
• 6:16
  Speaker 1: I like that.
• 6:17
Speaker 1: Community dinner included with registration.
• 6:21
Speaker 1: How much is the registration?
• 6:22
Speaker 1: Enter included with registration.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: How much is the?
• 6:24
Speaker 5: registration the registration right now, for pre-registration it's $35.
• 6:30
  Speaker 5: At the show it's $40.
• 6:32
  Speaker 1: Wow, that's a bargain.
• 6:36
Speaker 1: Is it easy to get up there?
• 6:38
Speaker 1: I guess if I'm coming out of Denver, I know that there's a highway that goes in there.
• 6:45
Speaker 1: Well, let's face the fact.
• 6:46
Speaker 1: I mean, you know, mitchell, nebraska is not on the tip of everybody's tongue.
• 6:53
  Speaker 4: You realize that.
• 6:54
Speaker 4: So the first year I came out here was for the other Rat Rock show that she was talking about in 2021.
• 6:59
Speaker 4: And at the time I lived in Knoxville, tennessee, and I don't recall exactly how we found the thing probably some Facebook ad but me and a bunch of buddies built a 40 Buick Nice On a bunch of random BMW parts, started a YouTube channel and then we just drove across the country for two weeks and landed in Mitchell, nebraska, and that's how I met all these guys.
• 7:18
Speaker 4: And then had so much fun, I decided to just move out here and be a part of it.
• 7:25
Speaker 1: Well, lucky you is all I can say.
• 7:25
Speaker 1: That's all we can come up with.
• 7:27
  Speaker 1: Lucky you.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: I noticed here in the intro that you wrote for me mistresses of mayhem.
• 7:36
Speaker 1: And who would they be?
• 7:40
Speaker 5: So the mistresses of mayhem are the pinups of the car show.
• 7:45
Speaker 5: I myself dress pinup and do pinup contests when we go to car shows, confidence in themselves and be a part of the car culture, even if they didn't own a car or, you know, they weren't necessarily around the hot rod community.
• 8:13
  Speaker 5: Mistresses of Mayhem, they're pre-chosen.
• 8:15
Speaker 5: We do kind of an online thing beforehand and I have spots for six girls where they get, you know, T-shirts and all sorts of other goodies from me and they just come and they hang out and they make the rest look a little prettier.
• 8:33
Speaker 1: No doubt, no doubt.
• 8:33
Speaker 1: So is there camping on site, or do you have to check into a motel or hotel somewhere close by it's?
• 8:41
Speaker 5: a two-day event, so it's actually held out at the fairgrounds.
• 8:44
Speaker 5: So there is camping on site, camping super cheap like 10 to 20 a night.
• 8:49
Speaker 5: So, um, most people will stay out there if they want to camp.
• 8:54
Speaker 5: Um, and then we have hotels about 7 to 14, or 7 or 14 miles away, depending on what direction you go.
• 9:03
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 9:12
Speaker 5: Do people trailer their vehicles up there or is it pretty much a cruise-in kind of thing?
• 9:14
Speaker 5: You'll have a few people that trailer their things, but Rottrotters, if you've ever met us, we're kind of a drive-your-stuff type of people.
• 9:23
Speaker 5: Um, my husband and I we actually have a 55 gasser that we have driven all the way to vegas, to arizona, to illinois.
• 9:33
Speaker 5: I mean we build our stuff to drive it and enjoy it.
• 9:37
Speaker 5: So I mean you'll see some on trailers, but not very often we might pick on you if you do that.
• 9:42
Speaker 4: We have uh one shirt that says I don't even remember what it says Trailers are for both.
• 9:50
Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
• 9:51
Speaker 5: Or how much horsepower does your trailer have?
• 9:53
  Speaker 5: It's another one.
• 9:56
Speaker 1: Well, this sounds like an absolute fun, fun event.
• 9:59
Speaker 1: Who is Mike Horth?
• 10:04
Speaker 4: That is one of the friends I alluded to earlier that when I built the 40 Buick out in Tennessee that made the initial trip out.
• 10:12
Speaker 4: I think he's actually the one who found the event.
• 10:16
  Speaker 1: Interesting.
• 10:17
Speaker 1: Well, I like the way you called him out here.
• 10:22
Speaker 1: If you ghost us again this year, we're naming a trophy after your excuses.
• 10:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, that'll definitely happen.
• 10:30
Speaker 1: I want to know who wrote the press release.
• 10:36
  Speaker 5: I did.
• 10:38
Speaker 1: I want to hang with you, paula.
• 10:39
Speaker 1: This is too funny.
• 10:42
Speaker 1: This isn't some shiny corvette lawn chair circle where judged means who brought the cleanest wax rag.
• 10:51
Speaker 1: This is a tribe of builders, dreamers, wrenchers, fabricators and full send maniacs who don't need validation but build things worth noticing anyway.
• 11:03
Speaker 1: Well, I will say this that I know that there's an advertising agency somewhere in the United States that wants your skills.
• 11:11
Speaker 1: We want your skills.
• 11:13
Speaker 2: Exactly that's what I was thinking.
• 11:15
  Speaker 2: We need them.
• 11:16
  Speaker 2: I want a rat rod.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: Bring your junk, bring your people, bring your project.
• 11:21
  Speaker 1: I like it.
• 11:21
Speaker 1: I like this part project.
• 11:22
  Speaker 1: I like it.
• 11:23
Speaker 1: I like this part.
• 11:24
Speaker 1: Sit at home, watch Jim apply wax coat number 13 to his stock Corvette while telling strangers it's technically the rare color, it's very cleverly written.
• 11:40
Speaker 1: I can only imagine what you're going to get out there this year with your wit and wisdom behind all of this.
• 11:53
Speaker 1: Are you doing major advertising there in the area?
• 12:01
Speaker 5: Right now it's a lot of Facebook advertising.
• 12:03
Speaker 5: Unfortunately, there's not a lot of advertising in the area besides radio ads, so we'll eventually get there.
• 12:12
Speaker 4: We have a pretty large par culture in the area anyway, obviously lots of word of mouth and, like today, we're at a local par show.
• 12:19
Speaker 4: So we're doing a lot of in-person meetups and spread word that way also.
• 12:23
  Speaker 1: That's good.
• 12:23
Speaker 1: That's good, and we're trying to help you as well as you can well imagine, and we appreciate that.
• 12:29
Speaker 1: Well, I know that you do.
• 12:31
Speaker 1: How many food trucks are you going to have there?
• 12:34
  Speaker 1: You know?
• 12:38
  Speaker 5: We have oof.
• 12:40
Speaker 5: I finally had to cut it off.
• 12:42
Speaker 5: I think we have five food trucks and then several other like little type of places that maybe serve cotton candy.
• 12:51
Speaker 1: Snow cones, yeah, yeah.
• 12:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, snow cones and fruit cups and lemonade, and so all sorts of fun stuff.
• 13:01
Speaker 1: What are the hours of the show?
• 13:13
Speaker 5: so on um friday we do our dirt track at.
• 13:14
Speaker 5: It starts at six and it just kind of ends when we end, and I think last year that was around 10 or 11 o'clock, wow.
• 13:17
Speaker 5: And then saturday, we start bright and early at nine and end at four, and then we have our dinner that night at six, just to just hang out.
• 13:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, I would imagine a few beer tops are popped out there having a good time sitting around talking trash about each other's cars.
• 13:41
  Speaker 2: Just the Corvette.
• 13:42
Speaker 2: Yes, there is, there was a pause.
• 13:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, there was no denial there, there was a pause and you thought, huh, do we do?
• 13:46
Speaker 1: yeah, we do that.
• 13:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, I get it.
• 13:49
Speaker 1: You know, this sounds like such a fun event.
• 13:53
Speaker 1: This could be a nationally syndicated event and every weekend, especially during the summer months, you could make a different location across the United States.
• 14:05
Speaker 1: Heck, for that matter, we could do 50 weekends with the rat rotters and find a different place.
• 14:15
Speaker 1: That would take a staff of people, though that kind of ruins it.
• 14:21
Speaker 1: It turns it into a job.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, it turns it into a job.
• 14:24
Speaker 1: Rats on the plat though I mean the title, everything about it, the graphics, the artwork.
• 14:27
  Speaker 1: They a job.
• 14:27
Speaker 1: Rats on the Platte, though I mean the title, everything about it, the graphics, the artwork they've got yeah.
• 14:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, mistresses of Mayhem, look at that.
• 14:33
  Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
• 14:34
Speaker 1: So who did your artwork?
• 14:36
Speaker 1: I mean, did you hire that out or did you do that too?
• 14:40
Speaker 5: No, we do hire that out.
• 14:41
Speaker 5: We have a buddy out of I believe he's in Illinois that does our artwork every year and he does an amazing job.
• 14:48
Speaker 5: I give him an idea and he knocks it out of the ballpark every time.
• 14:54
Speaker 1: There are those people still left on this earth that do have some talent like that.
• 14:57
Speaker 1: It's truly amazing to see.
• 14:59
Speaker 3: And we've been known as Mistresses of Mayhem too.
• 15:02
Speaker 3: We have, from time to time.
• 15:04
Speaker 1: We have some closet skirts that we'll throw on every once in a while just to feel good about ourselves.
• 15:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, the shirts have a big B on it instead of a tire.
• 15:13
  Speaker 2: There you go.
• 15:17
Speaker 1: So does it cost anything to get in?
• 15:19
  Speaker 5: They're important.
• 15:26
Speaker 1: Sorry, you cut out there.
• 15:27
Speaker 1: Say that again, Paul.
• 15:31
Speaker 1: Are you with us?
• 15:32
Speaker 1: Oh, did we lose them?
• 15:34
  Speaker 2: I don't show that we've lost them.
• 15:36
Speaker 1: Paula, can you hear us?
• 15:36
Speaker 1: Jake, can you guys hear us?
• 15:38
Speaker 1: Well, at any rate, if they call back, we can get them back on.
• 15:44
Speaker 1: I'd like to know does it cost anything?
• 15:47
Speaker 2: Yeah for the spectators.
• 15:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously you know there's a registration fee and that sort of stuff, so the thing is called Rats on the Platte.
• 15:55
Speaker 1: It's being held up at a place called Mitchell, nebraska, ratsontheplattecom, and we'd like to, if they can still hear us, jake and Paula.
• 16:06
Speaker 1: Thank you all very much for joining us today and we wish you the best of luck.
• 16:10
Speaker 1: That event, by the way, is August the 15th and 16th.
• 16:14
Speaker 2: So you've still got time.
• 16:15
Speaker 2: Just put it on your calendar.
• 16:16
  Speaker 2: Scotts Bluff County.
• 16:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, scotts Bluff County, it's right over there.
• 16:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's part of Scotts Bluff, nebraska, it's just on the outskirts, nebraska, it's just on the outskirts.

Speaker 1: By the way, there are two-door and four-door versions of this thing.
• 19:10
  Speaker 1: It's considered a standard SUV.
• 19:12
Speaker 1: I had the four-door version of it.
• 19:15
Speaker 1: Seats including the driver five.
• 19:19
Speaker 1: They do have a third-row version of it, including the driver five.
• 19:24
Speaker 1: They do have a third row version of it.
• 19:24
Speaker 1: If you've got a truck that has four doors on it, that's not that big.
• 19:28
Speaker 1: I would say that if you're looking for a third row, then find something bigger, because this is, in what I would estimate, a midsize SUV, wouldn't you?
• 19:38
  Speaker 1: You saw it.
• 19:39

• 25:06
Speaker 1: But JLR is facing 27.5% tariffs on the Defender, its best-selling model.
• 25:13
Speaker 1: The Defender is built in the European Union nation, slovakia, and it is still subject to the 27.5% tariff rate.
• 25:21
  Speaker 1: It's a bit confusing.
• 25:23
Speaker 1: Just hold on, it's all going to be ironed out sooner or later.
• 25:27
Speaker 1: Buy one from inventory or buy one from inventory if they have them.

Speaker 3: Last Monday I got a windshield chip, mike, in my brand-new car.
• 25:40
Speaker 3: Oh, I was crushed.
• 25:41
  Speaker 3: I started crying.
• 25:42
  Speaker 3: I'm doing 66 miles an hour in a 65.
• 25:45
  Speaker 3: I know it's a little fast, it's fading.
• 25:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, I could have turned myself in to the police because the station was right there.
• 25:50
Speaker 3: But a rock chip on the passenger side, right in view, right where the passenger view.
• 25:56
Speaker 3: So I called Kathy.
• 25:57
Speaker 3: What was our deductible?
• 25:59
  Speaker 3: She didn't know.
• 25:59
Speaker 3: So I called the insurance company and they said, yeah, well, first of all I went down to SafeLite this is all about SafeLite and they said, yeah, we can do it.
• 26:07
Speaker 3: If we were to do it out of pocket, it's $128 plus tax, $130.
• 26:11
  Speaker 3: I said, okay, that's a good deal.
• 26:12
Speaker 3: So I called the insurance company.
• 26:14
Speaker 3: They said, well, you have comprehensive, so we cover that.
• 26:16
  Speaker 3: So there's no out-of-pocket.
• 26:18
Speaker 3: So they arranged it.
• 26:20
Speaker 3: They gave me another number to call.
• 26:21
Speaker 3: I called my insurance company, the claims department.
• 26:24
Speaker 3: They arranged it with Safe Flight.
• 26:25
  Speaker 3: I went down there at 10 o'clock.
• 26:26
Speaker 3: I actually got there at about 9.30.
• 26:29
Speaker 3: Of course you did.
• 26:30
Speaker 4: I knew you would.
• 26:31
Speaker 3: And I was out by 10 after 10.
• 26:33
Speaker 3: And it's not quite perfect because it was about the size of a quarter.
• 26:37
Speaker 3: Nice star Dang, and it's almost perfect.
• 26:40
Speaker 3: Kathy said she hardly noticed it yesterday.
• 26:42
Speaker 3: You can still see if the windshield is dirty.
• 26:44
Speaker 3: It looks like all the other grime and stuff on the windshield.
• 26:46
Speaker 3: But they did a good job.
• 26:47
Speaker 3: Kudos to Safe Flight.
• 26:49
  Speaker 3: It's a clean shop.
• 26:50
Speaker 3: The people were nice.
• 26:51
Speaker 3: There was no hidden costs, no hidden fees.
• 26:55
Speaker 3: Everything was up front.
• 26:55
Speaker 3: I took some pictures of the guy.
• 26:57
Speaker 3: I was taking pictures of the guy, I was taking pictures of the process and he goes.
• 27:01
Speaker 3: I'm going to charge you for the pictures.
• 27:02
Speaker 3: I said well, you don't have to worry about that, just put on my bill, but kudos to Safe Flight.
• 27:07
Speaker 3: Did you get a buddy selfie?
• 27:09
Speaker 3: Oh no, I didn't do that.
• 27:11
Speaker 1: But I got a picture I'll show you.
• 27:13
Speaker 3: No, nothing like that.
• 27:13
Speaker 3: So I appreciate it.
• 27:16
Speaker 3: Thank you, state Farm Insurance, my agent, all those people.
• 27:19
Speaker 3: So just a little, if you have insurance for your car, check out what you can do for your windshield or any damages, minor damages and things like that.
• 27:27
Speaker 3: It's probably written in your policy, mine is.
• 27:29
Speaker 3: I didn't know that at the time, I forgot.
• 27:31
Speaker 3: So the insurance company you have, whatever you deal with, I'm sure they'll work out a program for you.
• 27:37
Speaker 2: Even if you don't know if you have it, I think it's pretty cheap.
• 27:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, the 128, yeah, and for what it takes.
• 27:44
Speaker 3: Actually, they sent me a zero-cost bill.
• 27:47
Speaker 3: Mine was zero, but it showed the breakdown of what they billed the insurance company.
• 27:51
Speaker 3: So out of the 130 with tax, title and license, they actually billed the insurance company about $65.
• 27:57
Speaker 3: So that's what they get paid back as the program.
• 28:01
Speaker 2: Right, which is a whole lot cheaper than paying to replace that windshield which is about thirteen hundred dollars for mine, my daughter-in-law.
• 28:10
Speaker 2: That's cheap, yeah oh my, the truck has got four that I know of that.
• 28:16
Speaker 2: I can see, just you know, running back and forth on interstate 10 and all that stuff and they haven't got bad enough that I want to replace them.
• 28:24
Speaker 2: But it bugs me Well, because I'll just chip up the new one.
• 28:28
Speaker 2: That's what I'm afraid of until they get rid of all that construction between here and there.
• 28:32
  Speaker 2: Guess what.
• 28:32
  Speaker 3: That'll never happen.
• 28:34
Speaker 3: There's criteria too, because she asked a couple of questions how big is it?
• 28:38
Speaker 3: Can it be covered by a half dollar?
• 28:39
Speaker 3: Can it be covered by a dollar bill?
• 28:40
Speaker 3: So they want to know the size of the crack initially going in.
• 28:43
Speaker 3: If it's too large, then it is a replacement.
• 28:46
Speaker 2: There's no way to repair it.
• 28:47
Speaker 3: All of these are smaller than a dime.
• 28:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, well, it was about the size of a quarter.
• 28:51
Speaker 3: It hit loud Bang.
• 28:52
  Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness.
• 28:53
Speaker 3: Well, if you hadn't have been speeding, yeah, 66, 165.
