Transcript
- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Headbone!
- 0:07[SPEAKER_02]: Ah!
- 0:07[SPEAKER_02]: Too good to you!
- 0:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's the MMTV NFL podcast Albert Brears here, I'm Connor Ort.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: And we started the NFL season the last night.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: We're just a little loopy.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't go to bed until like two o'clock in the morning.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't start it with a bang.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: We started it with a spit.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: And this is our actually our weekend preview.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to get to all the games here in a second.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: But it's impossible to ignore the fact that literally six seconds into the first NFL game.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: Probably one of the ten best defense of players in the NFL is thrown out.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: for spitting on deck press got and then there was a second spitter theory that emerged because deck press got spit on the ground because deck press got spit on the ground.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: Jayla Carter spit on deck press got and then you get Jason Garrett on the sidelines running over to get the story from deck press got and reporting it live and we're back, baby.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean this is as NFL as it can possibly get Holy Santa Claus poop.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: Remember why, like, jail and car fell to the ninth pick, and then we're obviously a couple of reasons for it, but this, I think, if we want to talk about this from a big picture perspective, I mean, this is why there are internal questions with the Eagles about whether or not you pay enough to this year, and they've traditionally paid their stars very early, right?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know, like, you know the part that no one's really talking about.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: is like, what was jailing Carter doing there just hovering over the cowboy's huddle?
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like you're asking for trouble dude, you were just standing there like mean mugging their huddle.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, to me, that's like the first problem, right?
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so you shouldn't be there to begin with, but you put yourself there.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: to, you know, like, to try to intimidate somebody or whatever.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then, all right.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: So like then, you know, like he like deck spits and says that to you and your reaction is to spit right in his face.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've seen the way these things go in the past.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: It was just like,
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: This is why this is why the Eagles add like this is why there's that there's questions about why they're not like you sign him long term internally when he's as great a player is he is this is why he fell the ninth in the draft this is why he's been a little bit difficult to manage his first couple years in the league and this is why
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: uh... when it comes down to it like that decision of whether or not to sign of isn't cut and dry and look i understand fans perspective fans don't care about this stuff right fans just want the great player on their team uh... and they'll just stick their fingers in their ear and go la la la la la what while you tell them like no this great player was available to you for reasons that's why and see
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: But it's generally like the issues guys have coming out like
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of times they do show up down the line, you know.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: And in this case, obviously, I think it's another example of like the maturity issue that was there with Jalen Carter for sure at Georgia has and which like wound up being like a fatal quality of his for a couple of people, you know, has sort of reared it set again.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: Part of me wonders, I mean, I'm so wrapped up in it at this point that you wonder if because DAC was smiling the whole time, especially when Jalen started approaching the huddle and you wonder, it's not like a planned spit, but it's like, okay, I wonder if I can go this guy into doing something stupid because here's the backdrop that I think a lot of fans don't understand and as reporters,
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: We get a crash course in it in the off season teams get a crash course in it in the off season officials before the start of every year have what they call a point of emphasis and I think that you guys have heard this phrase talked about time and time again where it's like okay we're going to emphasize leaning with the crown of a head because we reviewed last year's film and there was a 10% increase in blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: This year, the NFL statistically, I think it was like 130% rise in what they deemed obscene gestures, a 50% rise, I think, in what they deemed unsportsman like conduct.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: Plus, the fact that this is a spaceship that's taking off in untold territories.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: This is a very politically powerful NFL at this point.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very globally powerful entity.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so what they're trying to do is they're trying to submit themselves into this space where it's totally family friendly, all the time, this is not the jacked up era.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: This is something that you can watch with your three and your four and your five-year-old and feel totally good about.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: There's no more offensive, obscene gestures, and they're working hard to clean that up in the background.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's sort of distance themselves from their past.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: Plus, it was a legit point of emphasis going into the season.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: So everybody knows this.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Jalen Carter theoretically knows this.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: There was somebody in a referee suit who told him about this.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: One of his coaches, I'm guessing, told him to not do anything stupid like with a video.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: Did you see the video?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's a video that, again, that explains their point.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that's what's disappointing to me is like, everybody's amped up and I get it and there was a lot of extracurricular activity between these two teams.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: you knew exactly what the NFL was looking for here.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: There was no mystery and they were going to make an example out of you.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I bet that it is whistle quiet throughout the NFL.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: That it's going to be like the dust tumblers rolling through the old west towns like everyone's just going to get up, clap and the official the ball, which is what the NFL wanted all along.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's that red meat section of the fan base that he's the fact that people celebrate after the first down and do all that stuff.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: And the NFL's getting what they want.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: how many of the other 30 teams are getting talked to today and getting shown that tape and getting shown what it did and the result of it you know like I like my guess would be I would I would just guess 30 out of 30 you know what I mean like that and if you're not how stupid or irresponsible is it to not flag that for everybody because if you think that
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the story came out so I can talk about it now.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: I was with Jamar Chase earlier this summer, and we were talking about I guess the NFL had gotten to the point where they thought his gritty, his version of the gritty, where he was doing a pointing thing at the end where the pointing resembled guns, and like obviously it's not guns.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's the gritty.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's this very fun
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: dance.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: But the NFL find Jamar Chase for this and was trying to win O'Down on the gritty.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: And if that's under fire, and I mean, this is a dance that they advertise on their social channels and use to create content.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: If that's under fire, any sort of minute gesture that looks ridiculous.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: In any way, shape or form off is going to get flagged.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to get penalized and
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: my god like it's it's so crazy how quickly we got here but we're here right and we had like though there's a toning penalty later in the game too with was Nolan Smith right like where he flexed and it was kind of I I understand I and I the visuals came under a lot of criticism for this and
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like I'm normally like I normally would be with the the mob on this like where it's like I can't like there's a competitive game.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you flagging that I also.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: In this case, I can understand where the officials flag that these did look a little bit like where you stand over somebody and the reality is if they're trying to stop fights and games there is nothing that'll start a fight more than trying to.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: Basically like schoolboy somebody like that you know what I mean like standing over somebody To it's like a certain like you're the dominant force There's nothing on a field full of alphas that's gonna spark a fight more than stuff like that You know what I mean like so I sort of got that lot when I watched it last time like all right
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: someone's already been spit on in this game and now you've got like someone standing over somebody and I think it was in no one's miss defense like I think it was questionable whether he was standing over the guy but they're going to fly that now you know because they're trying to prevent a brawl from breaking out and you know obviously the game was chippy from there anyway in general and maybe part of that's the rivalry the familiarity between the teams and everything else
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think that you can expect now coming out of that like a weekend full of them being very aggressive on coming after this stuff.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: To me, so there's like three high profile spitting incidents that I researched because this is what I'm doing with my life now.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: And it was a fun conversation now of my four-year-old on the way to pre-cade today where it was like daddy had to work late last night because a big man spit on another big man.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: And this is something that
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like happened to him on a playground a month ago that he was still kind of worked up about.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so it was I guess it was fun that real life becomes real life becomes football in that sense.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: But Bill Romanowski, right, Tarolovans and Sean Taylor and Taylor got ejected because it was a playoff game.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: Tarolovans and Bill Romanowski didn't get ejected now.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: There were other because it was the 90s.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: because it was the 90s and because there there wasn't as many cameras on it.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: I got a lot of pushback from my take last night, which is that this is an example of the NFL trying to clean up what is inherently a dirty game, right?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: When when you're in a pile, dudes junk is going to get grabbed.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: When you know that a guy's an ankle injury, it's going to get twisted when, you know, when you're grappling with somebody, you're going to stick your fingers in their face mask.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's been happening
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: But as the NFL progresses towards this like Apple level, Monolith status, they're trying to clean it up.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: They're trying to make it into the game that like, your like, Jason football, elderly, 70 year old man, who's like, I don't like it when they do this is gonna be completely and totally acceptable to him.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's a big part of this.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the mom is too, right?
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: And the moms, and the moms for sure.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we act like, listen, it's going to be a point of emphasis, but we're taping this on Friday morning.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully you guys can listen to it before Friday nights, chiefs, chargers game by the time that happens, we're all going to be complaining about turf quality.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, it's, it's a moving target, it's the guy we realize they were hockey players.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: The teams who played down there in São Paulo last year had to, I mean, they were like winter game cleats, cleat extensions that the players were, so I'm interested to see how that goes and the Packers had a two and a half hour commute while the commissioner took a helicopter to the game.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: I bet that didn't bother anybody.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: This year, the MMQB is playing on Yahoo Fantasy, and you should, too.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: Whether you're a first-timer or a veteran, creating your millionth league, I know that Yahoo goes back with me all the way.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: That was my first fantasy football league.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: It is my only fantasy football league.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: When it's time to round up all my best friends from high school to get our league going, it's a standard thing.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: We all log into Yahoo.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: We all draft together.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: And with the season kicking off on September 4th, now's the time to start playing on Yahoo Fantasy football, which offers so many fun ways to compete, not just your classic leagues anymore.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: You want to play instantly with friends?
- 12:34[SPEAKER_02]: Try the new draft with friends mode.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: You want more ways to play.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: Try the brand new Yahoo Fantasy guillotine league, where the lowest scoring team gets eliminated weekly until there's only one team left standing.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: Do you prefer the classics?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like we said, get your old crew together, head back in and make a private leak.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: No crew?
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: No problem.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: Just join a publicly.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's the easiest way to play.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: You can play now at yakufinacy.com slash mmqb.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: That's yakufinacy.com slash mmqb.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, we're going to try to breeze through some of these games real quick.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, it's hard because
- 13:12[SPEAKER_02]: We've been talking about the same preseason sample size that we've seen and we've seen in training camp and what we've seen in practice.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so I kind of wanted to just breeze through them.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: And one thing that we're kind of looking for that maybe is in the box, maybe it's outside the box.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we don't have to get too esoteric with it.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: But with the chiefs and chargers in particular, I'll start there with our weekend preview.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is going to be,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: I've heard so many people and I don't know why say that this is the return of like the air Mahomes this season.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's true.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think his yards per pass maybe at an all-time low.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: After this year, I don't care that Rashi Rice is healthy.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think that
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: this is going to be a control possession team.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to run more 12 personnel than they've ever run as you alluded to in our last podcast with the emergence of someone like Noah Gray.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: And so for this game, I'm trying to figure out who plays small ball better because it's going to be bad turf.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be run focused and I mean, the chiefs are breaking in new tackles on both ends at this point.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Are they going to want to commit Patrick Mahomes to five step drops so he can get the balls to Hollywood Brown.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think that is the vision though, eventually.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: And like that was the vision last year until injuries undermined it.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't so much losing rice, although that was part of it.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: It was.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: Hollywood Brown going down in preseason being lost till Christmas and then not meant they had to ask more of Xavier worthy.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's easier to defend one of those sorts of guys than two and so the vision kind of had to be reconfigured and a lot of things going to like ride on the health of those guys.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you're right like in this spot like the
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: have to protect, you know, Josh Simmons at Leftak, although a certain degree as impressive as he's been.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so like, yeah, that's going to mean like I'm trying to run the ball effectively and you know, play some small ball.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: really interested to see what happens with the Chargers though because you know like what really stuck out to me when I was with them was how physically big the team is I think I mentioned this to you before right so like they had this grand idea of how again, they're going to lean even further into like the Jim Harba thing.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then they lose her Sean Slater.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: So what does Joe all look like at left tackle?
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: What is the right side?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Look like, you know, in O'Marion Hampton, I think it's got a chance to be like, Jim Harbaugh's version of Frank War.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Frank War was formed in San Francisco.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: And look, I like the chiefs to win that division.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think the chiefs are in much better shape than a lot of people.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: I believe I think there's some people that think they're going to take a step back because of the last thing they saw, which wasn't pretty, she's falling behind 46 and Super Bowl, but I
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: I still think this is a damn good team, and obviously, in elite coaching staff, led by one of the best coaches of all time, you've got one of the best quarterbacks of all time.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just interested to see where it is with a lot of like transition on offense and game one, and whether or not the charges maybe in year two for Jim Harbar, a little more ready to hit the ground running than the Kansas City is.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the heart-bought revolution, whatever you want to call it is here.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: If you look at last year's personnel usage statistics, the chargers are 22nd in 11 personnel, which is one tight end in three wide receivers.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: They were dead last in 12 personnel, which is the two tight end sets.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: But they were in top five in your 21 personnel, right?
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: You're two back.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: one tight-end personnel sets.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I got that walk back there.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: And they have some heft to it.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little bit different of a hybrid than what Greg Roman used to run.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: But now I'm curious how they adjust because again, you have more dogs at the tight-end position than you had before.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: You have better bodies.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: You also need to protect someone who's stepping up to replace
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: my mind goes is what are you going to do with the little interplay in the backfield how are you going to legitimize this power run game now that you've lost arguably I mean not arguably the best run blocker that you have on your team it's like that's something to watch out for because again you're going to have to run the ball in South Palette I mean there's just there's just no doubt
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of which, and we're just going to go down the games in order here really quickly, Buccaneers and Falcons.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: And while there is this, yes, I mean, the Buccaneers are injured at the offensive line position.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_02]: But, and everyone's talking about,
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: this guy that they got from some state school in Ohio, this white receiver, that's pretty good.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: And the baker may feel it's going to throw for 9,000 yards.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_02]: I said this on the other show.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think that they're going to absolutely try to rip the Falcons part on the ground game, even though it doesn't look like it, but I'm looking at the buck in here.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking at us coming out of Sunday.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: not talking about the buck and ears wider severs and talking about the fact that like buck you're serving and Rashad White both went for like 70 plus in this game and a score.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I think.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay and I this is one where I am going to be a little focused down on the quarterback because I think for the Falcons they have so much riding on three players and it's three players
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: There was some controversy and how they went about these things, right?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like an acquiring Michael Panics in 2024.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then the two passwords this year.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't, I mean, Jalen Walker was a very uncontroversial pick at 15, right?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but then they come back into the round to go get James Pears was.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: And so like this Michael Panics look like he's leveling up the entire team because they were quietly very, very confident about where he was during camp.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: And even talking to some of the defensive coaches there, his vision for the field, right?
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like the stuff he was seeing as a second year player blew them away.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: So you got the arm down there, you know, you've got the field vision, you've got like how evolved he is because of how much he played in college.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: So can he be a true difference maker and then, you know, past or she's been an issue there forever.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: And now they're losing great e-jerry.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think a lot of how we look at the falcons in December is going to be determined by those two rookies and how much they can get out of those two rookies.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, with with Jeff Albrek coming over as their defensive coordinator and trying to get Walker and Pierce in a in a position where they can hit the ground
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: Getting an early look at where those three players are at, you know, kind of give you an idea of how far the falcons can go.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: Football is back and underdog is the best place to make picks and win money all season long, playing on underdog is easy.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: Just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like touchdowns, receiving yards, interceptions, or more.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, it's one of those things where some of these places can be so intimidating.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: easy to find app, just download it and you can jump right into the game with no pretenses, no precursors, just picking higher lower on stats, it's so simple, it's so intuitive, my friends love it, it's a way that we can kind of communicate and talk about what we're doing each week on underdog.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: And this week, I'm looking at Joe Burrow and taking him for higher than two touchdowns, Emily Davis, higher for six catches, everyone's fading, the league neighbors right now,
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: Download the app today and sign up with promo code mmqb to score $50 in bonus funds when you play your first $5.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's promo code mmqb.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: Millions of fans have already won billions making picks on underdog.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: Will you be next?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: Underdog!
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: Make picks!

- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: With Bengals Browns, I got in some hot water last year because I predicted the Bengals to lose to the Patriots, but I told my wife and her work knockout pool that she was totally fine to take the Bengals over the Patriots and then she got wiped out in week one, and I got myself in some hot water.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: They are notoriously slow starting team, but at this point, it's all about
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: I, I want to see it.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see the bangles from minute one.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see them go after this brown secondary, which I know is a strength of their team, but I want to see it.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see what everybody else is seeing this off season.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see what I've seen.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can pick up the football preview.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's an interesting quote from Dan Pitcher, they're offensive coordinator.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: They are better at getting each other open than probably any wide receiver tandem in the NFL.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: I wanna see it.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: I wanna see it from the minute that this game starts.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: I want the angles to beat the Browns by three touchdowns because I think that they're that much better.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: I also think they're so hyper aware of it, you know what I mean at this point, they're so hyper aware of like the slow start thing that they adjusted in training camp, exact tailor, maybe your tougher training camp, exact tailor, played the guys in the free season, like I think they're prepared to hit the ground running, I'm really interested to see what the defense looks like under Algoden, because I mean the one glimpse that we got, like that free season game against Washington,
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: did not look good.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was at one point like 16 yards of play or something like that.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: So you would hope maybe he's holding some stuff back because he doesn't want to see.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't want to let teams are playing the first month of season.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: See some of the wrinkles that are going to incorporate with him as the new defensive coordinator.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, I expect Joe Burrow.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: to go out and throw for a million yards right out of that.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think I wouldn't be surprised if he's 325, 350, the Browns defense isn't bad.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Bangle's offense is gonna be good enough to make anyone look bad though.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so how you incorporate Chase Brown into that's gonna be interesting.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think Chase and Higgins fully locked in and after a full off season is interesting.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: I see this being like a 45,
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: to 17 game, something like that.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Bengals will come out looking to make a statement.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think Joe Burrell will come out looking to make a statement.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then it'll be interesting to see what the reaction is in Cleveland based on the summer they just had.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: Dolphins and Colts.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: This one I think could get, it's that's the potential to be.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually like like why it's like weirdly interesting, this one isn't it?
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's weirdly interesting, but also has.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: So it's on my, it's on my four box.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say that on Sunday, right, because I want to see Daniel Jones and Shane's like, I can't you gotta you gotta remind the listeners and me to how you organized this.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: You have the it's the laptop or you have the big screen and then the four box and the laptop and is that it or so yeah, so I have I can't do the four box on the laptop anymore because
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: The audio exchange on red zone makes me feel like I'm in a like a 50s sci-fi movie where you have commercials going on at once like four commercials for chilies happening just off each other and so they just each began at a different time and so I have
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: I have to do giants or jets on the big screen.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: So this is what it's gonna look like on Sunday.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna have giants on the main big screen in our living room.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we have a small house.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to be at my kitchen table slash office desk
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: with the laptop and all of two games on the laptop and then I will have jets on in our bedroom, which is just a short walkover and I'll have the volume way up on that, but down on giant.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_02]: So if something's happening with the jets, I can walk over and just observe it and watch it for a little while.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: Just so I'm aware of everything that's happening because I live in the New York area.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little bit of a disadvantage because that takes two teams off of my YouTube TV for the weekend and depending on
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: What's going on with Philly?
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes I get banged there and so.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's my setup, but this game will be in there because not just because of that, but because I think this whole thing, and I'm sure that dolphins fans are going to bang their heads against the wall when they say that when I say this, but like Darren Waller is banged up.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, kind of in a weirdly strong position here to come out and if they can handle the climate, if they can handle the atmosphere, if they don't get gasped early, really come out and make a statement in this game.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: And that's kind of what I'm looking at here.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think I picked the cults.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think the cults are more balanced across the roster than people realize.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think the dolphins are in a software rebuild.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think the dolphins are in a,
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I, I give, I have teams credit for this.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think the dolphins were at that stage where you look at the mirror and you say, where are we really going with this?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: And like it was very aggressive in their build, while too, was still on his rookie contract.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that was when they trade for Tyreek and they bring in Toran Armstrong's dead.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, they trade for Bradley Chop and they they're just loading the roster up.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: and like let's see what we can do while we had the flexibility of having two on is rookie contract.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: And now I think they're kind of in that turn the page phase again like rebuild sort of a dirty word for all these teams because how are you going to sell yourself to your fans if that's what you're doing but I do think that they're going through that transition now.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope Mike Bigden you'll get some grace for that.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure he will, you know, but
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a chance for the colds to come out and make a statement.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: They're in a very different spot than the dolphins are.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think when you look at chains say, you can go into year three, he hasn't made the playoffs yet.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Bauer going into year nine.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: He has one playoff win.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was with Andrew Luck and quarterback.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: If I remember correctly,
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's put up our shut up time in Indy.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think there's this is actually like an interesting league big game for the Colts and setting the tone for their season.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: Over the last 11 years, Albert, how many season openers have the Indianapolis Colts won?
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: How many of seven you said?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: Over the last 11 years, how many season openers have the Colts won?
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: None.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: Is that wild?
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's crazy.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I cheated on that one.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: I knew that he had to be 11 or zero.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought zero was more likely.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: So you played the family feud style, which I respect.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a family feud dog as well.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: I know that one.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'll speak as to New England.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: For me, right, Christian Gonzalez is banged up and he would likely out and likely out.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: He would have been the ideal guy big body to put on Brock Bowers and match up in this game, which I thought would have been totally fascinating.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: now you're in this never world where I think it might be like the end of last year again where I'm sitting there watching this game jumping up and down and screaming nobody's covering the goddamn tight end and Brock Bowers was open all the time last year because he wasn't getting given the ground treatment and I don't think that Mike Rabel can can do it.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he has the amount of people to make Brock Bowers his life.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: difficult.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think we're going to be focused a lot on Chip Kelly and Ash and Gen.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: T and all that stuff, but Brock Bowers had a generational season last year and how does a code might be able to build himself on defense and toughness come in and shut this guy down.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: And they can solve all those things a big part of it because like,
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so you don't have Gonzalez, which if you're going to throw the kitchen sink at Bowers to begin with, and you can have Gonzalez take one of their receivers completely out of the game, or you can put Gonzalez on on on on Bowers and then play a little bit more balanced everywhere else.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you got to throw the kitchen sink at Bowers, and like how do you cover everybody else?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I think
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: with chip and and and and Geno kind of coming in as a tandem unscouting like you don't know what that's going to look like.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be like a relatively big challenge for the for the Patriots defense.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there are two teams in relatively similar spots to its accomplished head coaches coming in.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think both those guys you can see in the preseason already signs that a play style at least have been established.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I think the difference between the teams right now, Connor, is the Raiders have more front line top talent, but the Raiders have some gaping holes, I and the Patriots are more balanced without stars.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you know, what does that come down to?
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually picked the Raiders to win this game.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think Drake may is going to have to play really well for the Patriots to win.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, interesting.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think this can be a big Drake may game outside for like I think seeing what Drake looks like in year two, which you know looks like claim what chip is the core as the coordinator.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think all of it's really, really interesting.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: Big day for me when I was in a two quarterback fantasy league.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so I blew the whole thing up and I picked quarterbacks with the first two picks so that I basically took like 60% of the good quarterbacks off the board for everybody else caused a little bit of a hoot.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: But then I ended up with travy on Henderson is RB1.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty confident.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a sucker by the way.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a sucker for rookie players and fantasy just because I'm excited to see them play and so I like I want to follow them you know what I mean like I've been I've been caught I've been I've been caught making mistakes and my fantasy drafts a lot doing that.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: me to it's such a trap and then you leave thinking that you did an awesome job, but really you just you know it's like Madden you have the running back You took does not then the running man this won't be a problem with Traveon, but like then the running back you took doesn't know how to pass blocks So like now all of a sudden the coach doesn't trust him out there and you're screwed
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: Cardinal Saints.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'll just say this.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Kellyn Moore knows that he's going to have to play in a different kind of way.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_02]: And Spencer Rattler, I thought, had some really nice moments last year.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: I, my bold prediction for this weekend is that the Saints are going to beat the Cardinals.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think because here's the other weird one.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: The Colts have lost 11 straight.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_02]: Home openers or season openers Albert the Saints have the longest active home or the longest active week one winning streak in the NFL isn't that insane the Saints out of all
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: I am Brandon Staley, even though they've had to completely redo the back end of that defense.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think now that you have Cam Jordan and what is conceivably as final season or one of his final seasons, I think that you have these guys healthy for such a short period of time, but I think it's like last year where you're not playing the best teams on your schedule and you can get out to some early leads and surprising people.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think my thing is, I think Spencer
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: were either just right down the stretch that just couldn't make a player to at the end of the game to make it happen, but I like Rattler.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I mean, yes, he will eventually lose that job four or five weeks from now, but I think that they will find a way to get it done against Cardinals.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's my like weekend bold prediction.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: What I like about the Saints is like the strength of the lines of skirmish now.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're not great on the defensive line, but they're they're they're they're competent.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're pretty good.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: And they've got you know some good veterans in that group, you know, chase young, you know, Cam Jordan obviously has been there forever, if they've got some pieces there that you can win with.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: I really like the young offensive line like.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: My mind jumps ahead looking at their offensive line with like banks and phwaga and McCoy and Ruiz and I just think like to 2020-26 and it's like that could wind up being a really good situation for a young quarterback next year, you know, like better than you think right now with if a lobby can come back and bounce back and have a nice year and come our American sustain.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of pressure.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of pressure on the Cardinals here, don't you think?
- 34:46[SPEAKER_02]: No doubt, which is why I mean, if you're Drew Petsing and your Kyler Murray, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kyler running a lot more where it's just like dude, we can't play the long game anymore, you're part of this run game and you're going to, you know, you're going to be expected to carry the ball 10 11 times a game at this point.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, all those guys they drafted now, you know, Marvin Harrison, Max Melton, Tray Benson,
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: This base of talent like that that's been drafted and developed over the last couple of years and so like how many of those guys are really going to show up now, you know, I mean it's they've done a great job with their asset management and creating a lot of opportunities in the draft over the last few years and they've got an absolute like boat load of of young players on the roster they have high expectations for
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: And now you're getting to the point where that needs to start to turn into results took a nice step from 24 to 20 or 23 to 24.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Now like, I mean, like, just as you would map this out, this should be the play off here, right?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, you know, going in and being able to win on the road in New Orleans would be a good first step and but there's pressure to do it because I think this is one of those teams where like we've all kind of been like they're building their building their building.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they're going to be facing, I think, a different set of questions if they can't win this game for sure.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think, uh, the heat's on, but this is what you want if you're Jonathan Ganon, right?
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: If, you know, if, if the pressure is a privilege in this situation, Pittsburgh at the New York Jets, it's, you want to go off again.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: No, I mean, I think it's a dumb game to have in week one, but you got to get it on the schedule.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_02]: I understand while the jets have a healthy quarterback and while the Steelers have a healthy quarterback.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to push away the common.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: thoughts here, which are just like, okay, let's see what Aaron Rogers looks like and we've been wondering all off season.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: We'll actually run this offense.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: Roger said that he's been corrected more by his center than he has in any other point in his career.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: And so I do think that there's a concerted effort to keep him on the railroad tracks here will he end up checking out of a bunch of plays, probably.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: But for me, I want to see Tanner angstrin earn his flowers in this one and I think you will.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_02]: This was an explosive play hunting offense by design in the preseason.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: But what are you going to do now that Elijah Vera Tucker's out?
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: How are you going to bolster that with your back field and make it so?
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: Because Justin Fields is going to have to run the ball a lot in this game.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_02]: He just is.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: And he's going to be under a lot of pressure.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_02]: You can't tell me that Art Smith and Mike Tomlin didn't watch every little bit of practice film from last year to see what he does when he's under pressure and he's uncomfortable, which way does he flush out of the pocket, all that kind of stuff.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: So if you're Aaron Glenn, if you're Tanner, angstrin, how do you protect that quarterback?
- 37:56[SPEAKER_02]: How do you keep him from taking 20 hits in this game?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's for my heads up.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think that that's part of it that it didn't look great in the preseason and so I think the general consensus is like that is because you weren't able to roll out the quarterback run game and I do know one area where they were able to make a lot of progress and Pittsburgh was like on the play past stuff and getting Justin feels playing fast off a play action and so like I'm interested in the quarterback run game here and how much they
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: actually put the ball in his hands and let him run.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think we've got a couple of really good young backs like Bree's Hall you know.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: Braille and Allen I think's got a chance to like maybe pull even.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going to be the the bell cow by the end of the season.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah like Braille and Allen's got a lot of ability and he's a big back and so you've got the chance to build a really
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: a really prolific run game with the threat that like just in fields can bring you on on on option concepts and everything else like how he could open things up for the running backs is something I think a lot of people not enough people are talking about.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: But the way to make that really dangerous is like if you can throw off of it, you know what I mean, like, and so I'm interested to see what Justin feels looks like throwing off of that, I'm interested to see what the Jets look like from from a past game weapon standpoint outside of just Garrett Wilson, you know, so I ain't going in those areas is it's going to be it's going to be really interesting to see where they're at and you know the Steelers, I just.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think what you're looking for here is a performance that makes you feel good about the next, you know, the next 16 games, you know, like in that they should be able to based on what they have what they bring back.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, having their offensive for a day or back now for for for for for for a second straight year You should be able to to really hit the ground running and are they able to do that with a 40 40 year old quarterback will see
- 40:09[SPEAKER_01]: Washington, 41, right, is 41.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: I can't 41 at that point.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're you're trying to get every year back as as possible when you're when you pass the 40 year old threshold there.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not so I can speak with authority on it.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks Connor.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: Giant's Washington, my thing that I'm watching here is just can the giants do something to keep Jaden Daniels off the field, which I think is what they want to do.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think that they want to
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: If possible, just have an insure, this is what every team wants, right?
- 40:44[SPEAKER_02]: But methodical 10, 12, 14 play, opening offensive drive, where Jayden Daniels just doesn't come up and put 14 points on the board in that time span.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: They have to stay up in this game long enough where their past rush remains relevant because if not,
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: you're in deepweights.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: And so this is going to be an interesting game for table.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I think actually plays into Russell Wilson's strength.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_02]: The fees is healthy as he told me he was a couple months ago.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: And Russell, I hope you weren't lying to me when you said that you feel like your 25 years old.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're going to be able to pick up some of those first downs.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: Just be annoying enough to milk some time off that clock and don't play into what the commanders inevitably are trying to do to you.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: What's the, what, where were we at on Andrew Thomas?
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: Cause you know, he's effy for week one.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's another thing, right?
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: Where it's, it's just one of those situations where they cannot get, they cannot get any breaks, you know?
- 41:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't think, I don't think it's necessarily encouraging, you know?
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're all, I think we're all like focused on,
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, so it sounds like he's not going to play right now.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's, I think we're all going to focus on Russell Wilson or the root of the giants problem.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the reason the giants, the reason the giants couldn't really elevate the last couple of years after that big first year that Dave all in Shane had was because they invest in the wrong guy quarterback, like bottom line, that is where it is.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd say like the root of their problems last year were probably more specific to
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: And they felt like in the first five or six weeks of the season, there were a lot of encouraging signs.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then Andrew Thomas went down and the whole thing went to crap.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I think like the, what does it look like without Andrew Thomas in there?
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now they brought in James Hudson to, to be this swing tack.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: Also at least they're bringing in a guy with some starting experience who can play that spot.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: Who, like, won't be the dumpster fire that they had at the position last year.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of how far they go is actually going to ride on the performance of the offensive line.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can get that group, right?
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you can get that group, if you can keep them healthy, like again, like they felt like over the first five or six weeks of the season last year, there was a lot of encouraging signs before the depth issue they had there, kind of undermined.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: Everything else they were trying to do the rest of the year.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I think we can breeze through a couple of these Carolina Jacksonville, Tennessee at Denver.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's one obvious thing that we're looking for in both of these.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: What does Travis Hunter do against the Panthers?
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's at home.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't a great defense in Carolina yet.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_02]: I know that they're trying to put some work into it, but I think everybody's going to be watching the playbreak down.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I think one of the advantages that you have for Travis Hunter and this one,
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: is that Carolina also I mean they're running game is better.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's better than it was, but it's not like you're playing Baltimore and it's not like this team's going to beat the crap out of Travis Hunter when he's on defense.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think this is probably a nice game to get him off the snide a little bit and just get him into a rhythm.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: of what he's expecting and I'll lump it in with Tennessee and Denver Albert.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: I just think everybody's going to be watching the number one pick in the draft, try to go across the country to mile high and beat the best defense in the NFL.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: Good luck to you.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 10 in season and we're spot because like I still think, I mean, they know from our officers to end point.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: They're not there.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: They have what like five wave reclaims the first after the after the first cut down, right?
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: Which is usually a pretty good indicator of where you think you are, you know, and that like you're not only going through final cuts, but you're also taking like was at almost 10% of your roster and getting rid of it to bring in guys that you have no experience with, right?
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think we're going to be focused on Cam Ward.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: They still have such a long way to go.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Bryan Cali has the right guy.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: One thing Cali did was he had Ward look at a lot of the of Joe Burrow's Rookie tape to kind of show Cam like some of the stuff that they were able to do to make it easier on him.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but that's tough going into Denver against Denver to you.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think that rifle is rightfully thanks to Scott chance to be really, really good.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then Carolina and Jackson Billite.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm going to go the other way on this, like I just think Dave can Alice's second year, the way they finished the season last year, the way they put some young players in that roster, you know, Bryce young the way he played at the end of the last year, they've got the five offensive linemen back for the first time in forever, some continuity up there up front for the first time forever, not just in the can Alice era.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: And the defense was historically bad last year, so can I get better?
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: I, I didn't care, Carolina could be like more competitive than people think.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm not saying there's going to be a 10-1 team, but I think they could get to like seven wins.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so playing S. Jacksonville, you would think, if they're going to get there, that one, that one, it doesn't mean they would necessarily win the game, but you would think that that would, that competitiveness would would show up, you know, what can Alice have been looking to try to instill there.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_02]: San Francisco at Seattle this is going to be a blast.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is a shanahan disciple versus shanahan.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: It is a Mike McDonald versus shanahan game.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's a Donald versus shanahan and Robert Salagame.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's a Robert Salah come back triumphant.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: I watch the Vikings pick apart or I watch the the Rams pick apart Sam Donald in the playoffs and I'm going to bring the heat on
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so what isn't there to like about this?
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think this has potential to be the best game of the weekend.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think Sol is one of them.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you brought him up because I think he's one of the more important figures in coaching in the league this year because of how young they're going to be on defense, you know, and how fast they can get those defensive linemen up to speed, Mikhail Williams, CJ West, Alfred Collins, you know, and then even guys like Upton's Stout on the back end, they're really playing a lot of rookie.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you're the sea hawks, you're getting the Niners at the exact right time.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think for the first month of the season or so, there's gonna be a lot of transition, some adjustment, they've got the injuries that receive her.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: The Niners just have a lot going on.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now you've got a christian McCaffrey's calf, which is a scary thing based on what it was last year.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: I may have picked the Niners in the picks, but I feel like Seattle could get them here.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think Seattle has a chance to sort of make a statement about where they're at.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, like, after winning 10 games in Mike McDonald's first year,
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: Sam Darnell could play well in this game against the young defense, you know, you, I think you have the chance if you're Seattle take advantage of some things that the Niners are working through right now.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: Detroit and Green Bay of it love it like a Parsons Mike Parsons Mike Parsons is coming back to eight in Hutchinson This this game is is awesome.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean and here's here here's what's interesting though, right?
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: After the season, Jeff Hathley had talked about the need to have more run push and interior pass rush and then you go get the best edge rusher in the NFL and you trade away one of your best run stopping offensive linemen.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_02]: Do the lions take this as an invitation to just pick up the dollar bill lying on the ground and run David Montgomery 30 times up the gut and dare you to slow down one of the best offensive lines and football.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they felt like they had like really good depth at defensive tackle.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have another Kenny Clark, but you know, they got to volunteer wide as a first round pick, and then they felt like they had some some depth of the detail, a spot that they developed that they felt like freed them up to to go get Mike a Parsons and to trade Kenny Clark as part of that.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: Not that they wanted to do it because it was really hard on them to give up, give up Clark, but you got to give up something good to get something great.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I think what'll be interesting to me on what you're talking about specifically the Parsons is part of their plan is to use Gary vinas and, um, and, and, and my cut together on one third down.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: And so if they can get to third down, you know, my brain that interior past rush is Mike a Parsons.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: with the new center with the new center for Detroit right right so I think there's like a little bit of a chess match here with like you said like are they able to exploit the frank ragnal thing like quickly with the amount of stuff they're able to throw at them just from a personnel standpoint the different groups makes the matching guys up front now
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, and then like, and then again, like, I think, you know, to your point, like can the lions really test the depth of the of the packers interior?
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that O line D line match up is going to be really, really interesting for sure, because the lions for the first time in forever have questions on their own line and specifically on the interior of their own line.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, the packers, I think it's just there's a lot of
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of transition in general on their D line right here at the drawer step of the season.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_02]: Houston Los Angeles Baltimore Buffalo two games that kind of went a group together and these are our last two we're going to do we're going to talk Monday night football on Monday after we recap the
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: the Sunday games.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm watching out for in the first game.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this was a huge end of the season for Chris Shula.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think that after Sean McVeilus's defensive coordinator after defensive coordinator, it turns out to be like his best friend all along that does the most with arguably the least that this defense has ever had.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_02]: And now you get up against this big prove it game or CJ Strahd finally gets more control the offense finally gets a new offensive coordinator there's a lot to watch there and on the flip side you have Buffalo and Baltimore where Lamar is is in a different position than Strahd because he's evolved to the point where the offense is his it runs through him.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: Buffalo has spent all off season preparing for this moment for me personnel standpoint and I'm just dying to know if they have what it takes to keep up with Baltimore.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think Lamar is going to give him fits.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think the ravens are going to win this game.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so high on the ravens this year, but I'm curious your thoughts as we get out of here.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I picked Buffalo to win the Super Bowl and my feeling on the ravens.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like just over the summer has kind of gone like this Connor, like up and up and up and up and up and up and the more I've heard about Like it wasn't visiting there, although that was part of it so much as it was hearing from other people who had friends with the Ravens like better on the staff that are on the in the front office like other people with other teams are like the Ravens think they're going to be really good the Ravens think they have a wagon.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: And if you think about it like last year, they turned over 60% of their offensive line, which is pretty impressive being able to do that.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: Now we have a runway.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which just guys from from from inside your organization.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: So now that's nailed down your recent Ronnie Stanley.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: You're the group, the skill position group around Lamar might be as good as it's ever been, right?
- 52:50[SPEAKER_01]: You found a way to keep Andrews.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: You've got likely a tight end.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to save flowers.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: You bring in Hopkins to play a role for you at receiver.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then you got Derek Henry and Justice Hill at running back.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, and then you know, you're some of the second wave guys they have.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and then the defense was Zach or you're not going through that transition.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think Baltimore's really really good and I think that game on Sunday night's going to be a war as for like used in the Rams I hate to continue to be like the offensive line defense of one guy
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they do.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: So, Ursary is, I think one of the more important figures in September and football.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why is because I think the Texans have almost everything else.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now we'll see what Joe Nixon like, you know, when he can come back and everything else, but if he can
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: If Ursary can nail down the left tackle position, I think some other things fall into place in the offensive line.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think they might have the best defense in the league.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just think the Texas, the young Iowa State receivers, Higgins and Noel have hit the ground running.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: They're joining a number one in Nico Collins.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I really like Nick Kaley is an offensive coordinator, hire who's going to empower CJ.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, when CJ was at Ohio State, he had a lot of power over what they do at the line.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: and the flexibility to adjust things.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: And didn't really have that as much the last two years.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Kaylee, who has experienced in the McVay offense, which translates to what they were doing the last two years, but also the Patriot offense, which gives the quarterback a lot of responsibility, he's been able to meld that together.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_01]: I like a lot of what's going on in Houston.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: But that makes me uneasy.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so if Ursary can nail down the left tack of a position, I think a few other things could fall into place, if they can just be
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: I hate to throw these numbers out.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: The 14th best offensive line of football.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've got a chance to break into that ball to more Buffalo Kansas City here in the AFC.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_02]: Big mystery.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_02]: I somehow have the cults still possibly maybe winning that division.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know they need to show me something here.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not ready to give up on it yet, but it's week one bit at Albert and I are in mid season form as you can tell.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for listening to the weekend preview and we will be back with you guys on Monday morning to re-review.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: Monday night football to recap the weekend that was and to get you guys set hopefully nobody spits on each other again, you know, be good to everybody, especially you guys and Philly, no spitting, have a good weekend, have a good weekend, have a good weekend, have a good weekend, go as Connor might spit on me on Monday, so come check back in with us to see see what another that happens, no spitting.
- 55:59[UNKNOWN]: You
