Transcript
- 0:03Well, after a day off, we are back,
- 0:05rested, recovered.
- 0:07Hey, maybe I took some thirdsy last night.
- 0:31From the gym to the screen, yeah,
- 0:33we cover it all.
- 0:34Midday motivation every time you press
- 0:36call.
- 0:37Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:39Cowboy bring the heat.
- 0:41Crossfit, boobies, music on repeat.
- 0:45Half hour hustle, yeah,
- 0:46we building that brand.
- 0:47Grab a plate, tune in now,
- 0:49you part of the fam.
- 0:55It's lunchtime.
- 1:00What's going on, everybody?
- 1:01I cannot wait to get back to my
- 1:02soundboard and some Yabba Dabba Doo.
- 1:04I miss the Yabba Dabba Doo.
- 1:07Yeah.
- 1:08Is that weird?
- 1:09No, not at all.
- 1:10I also miss Yabba Dabba Doo.
- 1:14Here's the thing, dude.
- 1:15I'm old enough to remember Yabba Dabba
- 1:16Doo.
- 1:17Like, it was on,
- 1:18which I know they weren't.
- 1:20It was all reruns when I was a
- 1:21kid, but they were new to me.
- 1:23So, like,
- 1:24I watched me a whole bunch of the
- 1:25Flintstones and the Jetsons,
- 1:27for that matter.
- 1:29Well,
- 1:30if you watch the Flintstones back in the
- 1:32day,
- 1:33the opening of the show is him working
- 1:37the pterodactyl crane,
- 1:40and the whistle blows,
- 1:42and he yells yabba-dabba-doo and slides
- 1:44down the tail.
- 1:45The yabba-dabba-doo is to signify, hey,
- 1:47the whistle's blown, we're on launch.
- 1:50That's rock.
- 1:53That is the genesis of the
- 1:56yabba-dabba-doo.
- 2:01Joseph Ramirez,
- 2:02I need a formal apology for not being
- 2:03here yesterday and throwing off my entire
- 2:05day.
- 2:06In writing will suffice.
- 2:09Apparently this Joseph's sternly written
- 2:11memo to us that we need to have
- 2:15a show.
- 2:16He texted me yesterday to check on me
- 2:17because he hadn't heard from me all
- 2:18weekend.
- 2:21I was like,
- 2:21I've been at camp all weekend, dude.
- 2:22I love you.
- 2:23I'm still good.
- 2:24I'm alive.
- 2:27Yeah.
- 2:28For good reason.
- 2:29We weren't on the air yesterday.
- 2:31My daughter and my wife and I were
- 2:33going to go to Glacier on Saturday and
- 2:36Um,
- 2:36that got kind of rained out for lack
- 2:39of better term.
- 2:41Um,
- 2:41we wanted to go when the weather was
- 2:43nicer.
- 2:44Um,
- 2:44and so we shifted and pivoted to
- 2:46yesterday, uh,
- 2:48made the three hour drive from great
- 2:50falls,
- 2:51Montana up to glacier national park.
- 2:54And I'm telling you, dude,
- 2:56if you ever have the opportunity,
- 2:59it is well worth every second of going.
- 3:05After we went to Olympic two years ago,
- 3:13my wife wants to go to whichever one
- 3:16it is up north,
- 3:17like around Maine on the East Coast.
- 3:21Yeah, I didn't want to go there.
- 3:23Whichever one that is,
- 3:24she wants to do that one.
- 3:26And then,
- 3:27like I was telling you before we got
- 3:29on air, she's been to Banff,
- 3:30which is like you let me know.
- 3:32It's basically the sister park of Glacier.
- 3:36But I want to do Glacier as well.
- 3:38It's amazing some of the landscape that
- 3:41this country has that people just probably
- 3:42don't appreciate as much as they should.
- 3:45Some of the most beautiful places.
- 3:46Acadia.
- 3:47Thank you, Andrew Stanton.
- 3:49That people just don't appreciate.
- 3:50Yeah.
- 3:52So I would say that Glacier is probably
- 3:55the sister to Banff because Banff is even
- 3:58further north.
- 3:59It's in Canada.
- 4:01It's less touched by human hands even.
- 4:05The mountains are bigger.
- 4:07But we got there,
- 4:09and my daughter's taking pictures and sent
- 4:11us pictures,
- 4:12and my mom came out last May,
- 4:14and they did their thing up there.
- 4:17But those times,
- 4:19it's called Road to the Sun, was closed.
- 4:23And apparently it gets closed due to
- 4:27weather pretty easily.
- 4:28Any kind of snow, it is closed.
- 4:32So we got there and it had snowed
- 4:34last week up in the mountains and we
- 4:37asked if it was open and they said
- 4:40it is open the whole way today.
- 4:43And we're like, okay.
- 4:45And my daughter's like, we got to go,
- 4:46we got to go.
- 4:46And I'm like, oh my gosh,
- 4:48I just drove three and a half hours
- 4:49to get here.
- 4:52This is a three hour tour through the
- 4:54park and then we've got to go three
- 4:55hours back.
- 4:56And the dad mode was like grumpy old
- 4:59man.
- 5:00Do I really want to do this drive?
- 5:02Yeah.
- 5:03I've seen this pretty lake already.
- 5:05I've seen some mountain.
- 5:07And she goes,
- 5:08I just want to take you to one
- 5:09place and we can turn around and come
- 5:10back.
- 5:11I said, okay, we'll do that.
- 5:14We get into the park and the minute
- 5:16like you get onto this road to the
- 5:19sun, the mountains get like three, four,
- 5:22five times bigger.
- 5:23Yeah.
- 5:24And I was like, okay,
- 5:25we're doing the whole thing.
- 5:27We're here.
- 5:28We're here.
- 5:28And now I'm committed.
- 5:31Now I'm committed to this thing.
- 5:32And so we start through the park and
- 5:38all of a sudden there's this point where
- 5:40you start weaving up the mountain.
- 5:44Yep.
- 5:45And basically you're driving on top of
- 5:47yourself like as you go up.
- 5:50The reason it is closed for any snow
- 5:52at all is I'm not sure that when
- 5:56two cars pass,
- 5:58you can fit a credit card between the
- 6:01rock wall, the other car,
- 6:05and the going off the cliff.
- 6:07Yeah.
- 6:10To say my wife shit herself eight times
- 6:14is probably an understatement.
- 6:19She didn't like a single moment of going
- 6:22up the mountain.
- 6:23And my daughter,
- 6:24and every time I pulled off,
- 6:25they had these little pull-offs.
- 6:27Every time I pulled off so we could
- 6:29go look at some stuff,
- 6:30she freaked out that I had just ripped
- 6:33the wheel off of the cliff.
- 6:37i understand that feeling from your
- 6:40perspective from your perspective because
- 6:42we had the exact same thing happen when
- 6:43we went to uh olympic so yeah i
- 6:47got it so there were moments where my
- 6:49my wife refused to get out of the
- 6:51car and and my daughter and i would
- 6:54go take pictures and look and look down
- 6:57and do all the stuff and uh it
- 7:00was it was so breathtaking like so
- 7:04breathtaking
- 7:06If you have any doubt that God exists,
- 7:09go to this place and you will know
- 7:12for a fact God exists.
- 7:14There's a peak called Heaven's Peak that
- 7:17looked like it stretched to the sun.
- 7:21Absolutely insane.
- 7:22He made all of that and remembered to
- 7:23make me.
- 7:24That's how I look at that whenever I
- 7:27see stuff like that.
- 7:27It's fantastic.
- 7:30It was...
- 7:32And the funny thing is like,
- 7:34as we're going up the switchbacks,
- 7:35I guess they're called there were people
- 7:39on motorcycles.
- 7:40I was like that,
- 7:42that is the way to do this.
- 7:44Yeah.
- 7:44Cause then you have some room, right?
- 7:46Like, and I am,
- 7:49I am pretty much I'm pretty much fearless
- 7:54with a lot of things.
- 7:56Like I don't mind heights.
- 7:57I don't mind things like that.
- 8:00There were a couple moments where the,
- 8:03the proximity to the cliff edge in my
- 8:05car got me a little, uh,
- 8:10a little perplexed.
- 8:12Not going to lie.
- 8:13Dude.
- 8:14No, I often,
- 8:15one hundred percent feel that, um,
- 8:19for us when we went up um i
- 8:22forget which mountain it was there's
- 8:23hurricane uh ridge they called it going up
- 8:27went back because you're on like you're on
- 8:29the mountain side right like the mountain
- 8:31is right out out of that window coming
- 8:33back down when you're on the cliff side
- 8:38coming back down uh much much like you
- 8:42usually jennifer was
- 8:44had one hand on the armrest and one
- 8:48hand on the door.
- 8:49And like you couldn't pry her out of
- 8:50there with the jaws of life.
- 8:51It was outstanding.
- 8:52Oh, I'm just driving.
- 8:54Look,
- 8:55Julie was in the backseat and she was
- 8:57ducked down behind our seat so she
- 9:00couldn't see.
- 9:01Not even looking.
- 9:02Not even looking.
- 9:03Occasionally we'd say, hey,
- 9:04look at this waterfall or hey,
- 9:06look at and she would pop up just
- 9:08enough to look and then back down she
- 9:10went.
- 9:14Meg said,
- 9:15Glacier is definitely God's country.
- 9:17The sky is five percent bigger there.
- 9:19Everything is bigger there.
- 9:20Like you feel so small.
- 9:23Oh, so small.
- 9:24We got to the top and Corey,
- 9:27my daughter, Corey said, hey, mom,
- 9:30if you get let's we'll just go back
- 9:32instead of pressing on.
- 9:34If this is in my wife goes,
- 9:36there's no way in hell we're going back
- 9:38down the same way we came up.
- 9:40I am not.
- 9:41I am not doing that again.
- 9:44Not doing that again.
- 9:45You lost your damn mind.
- 9:48Outstanding, dude.
- 9:49They had a thing called the Weeping Wall
- 9:51where there was like melting glacier water
- 9:54coming down and the rock wall was wet
- 9:57and it looked like it was like weeping.
- 10:01It was just majestic, man.
- 10:04I can't.
- 10:05I am so glad that we did the
- 10:08whole thing.
- 10:10So there were points, Birch,
- 10:11we were at like forty five hundred feet
- 10:14elevation and you can feel it like I've
- 10:17never been that high in my life.
- 10:21Well,
- 10:22in nature and like there are moments like
- 10:28your your breath is taken away.
- 10:30Yeah.
- 10:31Fun times.
- 10:33Like literally, not like, ooh,
- 10:34that's pretty.
- 10:35My breath is taking away.
- 10:36But literally.
- 10:37Yeah, no, physically.
- 10:38The air was so thin.
- 10:40I was like, oh.
- 10:41Yeah.
- 10:42Okay, calm down.
- 10:43You're fine.
- 10:44Just need some breath.
- 10:45There's plenty of oxygen for everybody.
- 10:49Not just hoarding it.
- 10:51That's outstanding, Dean.
- 10:52I'm glad you got to go.
- 10:54I know you told us you probably wouldn't
- 10:56be able to go that day.
- 10:58Probably going to end up having to go
- 10:59yesterday.
- 10:59So I'm glad y'all finally got to go.
- 11:00And it was open.
- 11:02That's outstanding.
- 11:04Blazing up on the drive would have been
- 11:06a bad idea.
- 11:06Yes.
- 11:07Yes.
- 11:09Yeah, you'd have had to...
- 11:12Bill Clinton it and just not in hell.
- 11:14Yeah.
- 11:16Dude, I talk a big game.
- 11:18Like,
- 11:19never in my life has that been a
- 11:20thing for me.
- 11:21Ever.
- 11:23Just.
- 11:24I wish I could say the same.
- 11:25I like beer.
- 11:26I like beer.
- 11:27I like whiskey.
- 11:28I like beer.
- 11:29Those were my drugs of choice.
- 11:31Beer we got drink pretty good, don't it?
- 11:35Very much.
- 11:36Very much like that.
- 11:38It was so.
- 11:39My daughter actually swam in Lake
- 11:41McDonald.
- 11:42Like I reached down and touched the water.
- 11:45It was freezing.
- 11:47No thanks.
- 11:48So she essentially cold plunged in Glacier
- 11:51National Park.
- 11:52Hey.
- 11:52It's not for everybody.
- 11:58And there is a part where the park
- 12:01is named Glacier for this one area.
- 12:03And we got a picture in front of
- 12:04it.
- 12:05And there is still ice on the mountain
- 12:07from the glacier.
- 12:10It was really cool.
- 12:15Meg is giving direction to our producer.
- 12:18It's not your show, Meg.
- 12:22So anyway, that was a fun trip yesterday.
- 12:26That was what we did,
- 12:27and that's why we didn't have a show
- 12:28yesterday.
- 12:30It is.
- 12:32We were thinking about having one,
- 12:34but honestly,
- 12:34I had too much shit going on yesterday
- 12:36trying to come on here by myself,
- 12:38or even with Vic.
- 12:44Yeah, that first picture, Vicky,
- 12:45on the far left shows out.
- 12:47Well, even that one shows how clear.
- 12:53Yeah, right there.
- 12:54That one shows how clear the water is.
- 12:58Good.
- 12:59And the stones are that multicolored.
- 13:04It was so cool.
- 13:07So cool.
- 13:09Love that kind of stuff.
- 13:10Couldn't live there.
- 13:11It's too cold.
- 13:14They actually, we,
- 13:15we ran into a couple that, uh,
- 13:19they lived in New Jersey.
- 13:21They moved to Montana and now they're
- 13:23snowbirds.
- 13:23They, they do Montana in the summer.
- 13:26They go to Florida for the winter,
- 13:28but they stay in Montana for the first
- 13:29snowfall and then they leave.
- 13:30Yeah.
- 13:31And then, um, but they said the,
- 13:33the winners are milder in Montana than
- 13:36they are in New Jersey.
- 13:40I mean, they live there.
- 13:41They probably know, but I mean,
- 13:43I don't have, here's the thing, dude, my,
- 13:44my, my winners are all Louisiana.
- 13:46So that's the only thing I have to
- 13:48compare it to.
- 13:50And it's snowed.
- 13:52I know six times in the forty nine
- 13:58years I've been alive that I can think
- 14:00of offhand.
- 14:03Megasaur is so dry, so dry.
- 14:07I am chugging water like it's my job.
- 14:11Stay hydrated, folks.
- 14:13Stay hydrated.
- 14:16The last thing I need to say about
- 14:17Montana,
- 14:18and then we'll move on to some CrossFit
- 14:19stuff, is, Meg,
- 14:22I had a Wilcoxon Huckleberry ice cream
- 14:26sandwich last night.
- 14:27Finally.
- 14:29That sounds amazing.
- 14:29Trying to find Huckleberry ice cream at
- 14:31this time of year.
- 14:32Everybody shuts down at Labor Day.
- 14:39and uh and the wilcoxon huckleberry ice
- 14:43cream sandwich was worth the wait all
- 14:47right it was delicious so is it remind
- 14:54remind me and remind everybody like like a
- 14:57cross between a blueberry and a raspberry
- 15:01or just don't even have anything to
- 15:03compare it to i would it's
- 15:08I would say blueberry black cherry.
- 15:11Okay.
- 15:13I met that ish, but I, it's not,
- 15:18it's not really,
- 15:20it's not really like anything else I've
- 15:22had.
- 15:22Nice.
- 15:24Uh,
- 15:24but the ice cream sandwich is like the
- 15:26old fashioned ice cream sandwich.
- 15:27When you're a kid,
- 15:28the black cookies on the top and bottom,
- 15:31the rectangle,
- 15:32and instead of vanilla ice cream in the
- 15:34middle, it's huckleberry ice cream.
- 15:36Let's go.
- 15:37I ain't mad at that at all.
- 15:40Not at all.
- 15:44It's its own berry,
- 15:45but you have to pick them yourself in
- 15:47the mountains.
- 15:48My daughter went to a farmer's market and
- 15:50they were forty dollars a pint if you
- 15:53buy them from somebody.
- 15:54Oh, my God.
- 15:57That seems expensive.
- 16:00Yeah.
- 16:01Forty dollars a pint.
- 16:03I'll just I'll go to the local grocery
- 16:05store and get an ice cream sandwich and
- 16:07call it a day.
- 16:08Yeah.
- 16:08Yeah.
- 16:17She says it would have been worth the
- 16:18forty bucks.
- 16:19I don't know.
- 16:24I don't know.
- 16:27You can't find them in stores because you
- 16:29have to pick them,
- 16:30which is why they're forty dollars a
- 16:31freaking pint.
- 16:33Yeah.
- 16:35Makes sense.
- 16:37When you get up to Glacier,
- 16:38the little stands all advertise
- 16:41Huckleberry stuff.
- 16:43But they were all closed for the winter.
- 16:51Even though today is the first official
- 16:52day of fall.
- 16:55Correct.
- 16:56But again,
- 16:57it's already snowed in the mountains.
- 17:01It's eighty-eight degrees outside.
- 17:04There's no snow going on where I'm at.
- 17:08I have some in my freezer.
- 17:09I don't want to use them because they
- 17:11are so hard to get.
- 17:13Oh, I bet.
- 17:14You could make a lot of money being
- 17:16a huckleberry dealer.
- 17:19They would have to be somewhere anywhere
- 17:22around here.
- 17:24I'm wondering, so you can grow,
- 17:26you can do blackberry bushes.
- 17:27People do that around here,
- 17:29basically form blackberries, strawberries,
- 17:32shit like that.
- 17:33I'm assuming the huckleberry only grows on
- 17:35the mountain.
- 17:37which is why there's probably the arid air
- 17:39mixed with the mountain water.
- 17:44Yeah.
- 17:45Probably not so much on here.
- 17:47Yeah.
- 17:50And that's just an educated guess.
- 17:52That means they probably don't thrive in
- 17:54ninety six percent humidity.
- 17:57I am not a horticulturist by any stretch.
- 18:01Whose fault is that, Scott?
- 18:06Birch camped at Lake Yellowstone in July
- 18:08and had ice on his tent.
- 18:13No, thank you.
- 18:17So anyway, we were all hyped up.
- 18:19Yeah.
- 18:26Vicky, Vicky, Vicky.
- 18:29what she's here for it's fine moving right
- 18:31along um so jamie and i talked on
- 18:35sunday night about there was supposed to
- 18:37be a big announcement in dave's week in
- 18:38review that boz was teasing on the glit
- 18:41and things podcast and while there was
- 18:46something interesting i'm not sure i would
- 18:48call it a big announcement it's pretty
- 18:50underwhelming as far as big announcements
- 18:52are concerned
- 18:55I know I've been crushing on the CrossFit
- 18:58media landscape, especially CrossFit HQ.
- 19:05There's a thing like under-promise and
- 19:09over-deliver is a thing.
- 19:12It's a business tenet, I would say.
- 19:16Over-promise and under-deliver doesn't
- 19:18lead to success very much.
- 19:20Not generally speaking.
- 19:24so tessa tess is asking what it was
- 19:27and what it is is that the open
- 19:30is going to add a pairs category meaning
- 19:36that like you and a buddy can sign
- 19:38up and do the open workouts um but
- 19:43for what let me ask you i go
- 19:45so i do think it's a good idea
- 19:47don't get me wrong i don't think it's
- 19:50like an earth-shattering announcement
- 19:53to the CrossFit space.
- 19:54No.
- 19:56You can pull that down, Vicki.
- 19:57I'll explain it.
- 19:59So it's a pairs thing.
- 20:03You can sign up with a buddy.
- 20:06I think that has been very successful in
- 20:08things like High Rocks and other events
- 20:11where people who don't want to do the
- 20:13whole High Rocks race can sign up with
- 20:16a buddy and split the work.
- 20:19And if you're nervous about doing the
- 20:21open,
- 20:23it's a way to enter that outside of
- 20:27our CrossFit space,
- 20:31you can bring people in.
- 20:38Okay.
- 20:40We have to think outside the box,
- 20:42and I do applaud them for that.
- 20:45Go ahead.
- 20:45I'll let you talk now.
- 20:46Yeah, I think I'm with Mark right here.
- 20:49I mean, it's an idea.
- 20:50I'm not sure if it's good.
- 20:51I just don't understand.
- 20:52So what are we going to do?
- 20:55Are we going to do pairs for quarterfinals
- 20:58now and pairs for semifinals now and
- 21:01whatnot?
- 21:01Or are we further dividing everyone into
- 21:06categories now?
- 21:07Like instead of, oh, well,
- 21:09now you can just do pair stuff.
- 21:10So you don't have to do it by
- 21:11yourself.
- 21:11So it just leaves the...
- 21:13The serious athletes quote-unquote to do
- 21:16the the open stuff.
- 21:17I don't know I just Underwhelming is is
- 21:21a fantastic word for it.
- 21:23I just I don't understand the point in
- 21:25the purpose So I think that there is
- 21:27this
- 21:29jaded CrossFit mentality that you have to
- 21:32do it one way and one way only.
- 21:35And for those of us already in the
- 21:37space,
- 21:38it's probably not a blip on the radar,
- 21:41this change.
- 21:42But for someone that's maybe considering
- 21:44to come into the gym,
- 21:46it's a way to bring them in in
- 21:48a way that is
- 21:49is less stressful for them to sign up
- 21:54and do it.
- 21:55We need to increase the open numbers.
- 21:57We do,
- 21:57and we need to find a way to
- 21:59do it.
- 21:59It's thinking outside the box.
- 22:01I've seen people say,
- 22:02how's it different than a regular bring a
- 22:05friend to CrossFit day?
- 22:07Everybody knows that at the CrossFit gym
- 22:09during the open,
- 22:10there is a bigger excitement.
- 22:12There is a bigger vibe.
- 22:15You don't get on just an average Saturday,
- 22:18bring a friend day.
- 22:20And generally,
- 22:21you don't do bring a friend day during
- 22:23the open because you have so many other
- 22:25things going on.
- 22:27And I would say this to you, Seema,
- 22:28it's not for you.
- 22:30It's for people that aren't doing this
- 22:32already.
- 22:40I can't believe I actually agree with
- 22:42Grant on something.
- 22:43I was going to say the same thing.
- 22:47It's actually one of the first creative
- 22:48ideas I've seen in a while.
- 22:50No idea if it'll work.
- 22:52I don't know if it'll work,
- 22:53but they have to try something different.
- 22:57Banging your head against the wall year
- 22:59after year after year doing the same damn
- 23:01thing isn't getting us anywhere.
- 23:05In fact, we're declining.
- 23:11I'm curious to see how it's going to
- 23:14flesh out and how it's going to
- 23:18Is there going to be a whole different
- 23:19spot on the leaderboard now for those
- 23:21people?
- 23:22You know what I mean?
- 23:23What are you going to be...
- 23:27And I get what they're doing it for.
- 23:29I understand what they're trying it for.
- 23:31And like I said,
- 23:32I never thought I'd find myself here
- 23:34agreeing with Grant as far as I have
- 23:35no idea if it will work as far
- 23:37as that part is concerned.
- 23:39But like...
- 23:41I want to see it fleshed out,
- 23:42I guess.
- 23:42I wanted more details than just, oh,
- 23:44we're adding a partner division.
- 23:46And you can be a national champion from
- 23:48Uganda again.
- 23:50Well, we haven't got to that piece yet.
- 23:55Because my take on that piece is a
- 23:56little bit different.
- 23:58Sure.
- 23:59But...
- 24:02Steve, true story.
- 24:04When I started,
- 24:05I thought signing up for the open may
- 24:06require me to go to the games.
- 24:08I think there are misconceptions and
- 24:10misperceptions about what the open is.
- 24:13And this is a low barrier of entry
- 24:17to come in and say, hey,
- 24:18I'm going to like I come to Corey
- 24:20and I say,
- 24:20I'm going to team with you,
- 24:22but you're doing all the muscle ups
- 24:24because I can't do any.
- 24:26Right.
- 24:26But at least I'm participating.
- 24:28I accept that deal.
- 24:31I'll lift all the weight.
- 24:32You do all the muscle up.
- 24:35And we don't know how the split's going
- 24:36to be or what it means on the
- 24:38leaderboard.
- 24:39It's probably going to be a separate piece
- 24:40of the leaderboard if it's even on there.
- 24:42But it's a way,
- 24:43a low barrier of entry to bring people
- 24:45in and see what it's all about.
- 24:49I don't know about bring people in,
- 24:51if you mean like as in get people
- 24:52into the gym,
- 24:53but maybe get more people that are in
- 24:55the gym into the open, then sure.
- 24:56Sure.
- 24:58I think it can do both.
- 24:59But again,
- 25:00we're never going to know unless we try.
- 25:03Yeah, no, I agree.
- 25:05That part, absolutely.
- 25:07I am glad that we're doing something.
- 25:10Doing something,
- 25:10doing a hundred percent of something is
- 25:12doing better than doing a hundred percent
- 25:14of nothing, right?
- 25:16Try something,
- 25:17throw something against the wall,
- 25:17see if it sticks.
- 25:19Doesn't work out, cool.
- 25:20We won't do it again next year.
- 25:23you don't get any feedback.
- 25:25It kind of like when they took away
- 25:27quarterfinals or whatever it was,
- 25:30like they did it,
- 25:31didn't do it next year and then brought
- 25:32it back.
- 25:32Right.
- 25:34Cause people were outraged about it and
- 25:36they actually listened for once and then
- 25:38brought it back.
- 25:40So maybe they're actually listening.
- 25:42Maybe people ask for it.
- 25:43I really don't know,
- 25:44but I'm glad they're doing something.
- 25:50it'll probably be less intimidating for
- 25:52people to do pairs.
- 25:53I think that is the best.
- 25:55I would say that is a hundred percent.
- 25:59If you were signing up for any kind
- 26:00of comp,
- 26:02I'm doing beach brawl this weekend on a
- 26:04team and it's way less pressure because,
- 26:07well, yes and no.
- 26:10It's way less pressure for I think most
- 26:11people because you're on a team and you
- 26:13can just do a little bit of work
- 26:14and the other people do a little bit
- 26:15of work and you're going about yourself
- 26:16instead of being the man in the arena
- 26:18and just doing it all by yourself and
- 26:20having nobody else to fall back on.
- 26:22So I kind of get that part of
- 26:23it.
- 26:25The other thing that hopefully it brings
- 26:27is the beauty for CrossFit for me when
- 26:31I first started was the people I met
- 26:33and the community that it gave me.
- 26:36whatever you want to call that thing,
- 26:38right?
- 26:39During the open, my first gym,
- 26:42and they still do this today,
- 26:44is they have like barbecues after the open
- 26:48workouts on Saturday.
- 26:50They have fun stuff like that, right?
- 26:54So not only are you bringing them in
- 26:55to do a partner workout for a day,
- 26:57now they're a part of this community thing
- 27:00where you're having a cookout afterwards,
- 27:02you're hanging out, talking,
- 27:05shooting the all that kind of stuff and
- 27:07i think that's a big part of it
- 27:09it's just getting people in to see the
- 27:10community but again i applaud them for
- 27:14some creativity for the first time even
- 27:18though it's probably copying what they're
- 27:20seeing in high rocks yeah i think it's
- 27:24a slightly different model i mean high
- 27:25rocks is actually a thing you have to
- 27:26show up for and do and whatnot as
- 27:28opposed to just coming to the gym on
- 27:30your day you're probably already coming
- 27:32and just signing up with a partner um
- 27:35What did I just do?
- 27:39Sorry,
- 27:40I just hit a button and freaked myself
- 27:42out.
- 27:44Fergie,
- 27:44grind and dine are my favorite affiliate
- 27:46events.
- 27:48Yeah.
- 27:49Fun.
- 27:49If you can get them fun,
- 27:51if you can get them,
- 27:52I missed the last two, uh,
- 27:55events that we do like, you know,
- 27:57for our yearly anniversary,
- 27:58because I was at competitions the last two
- 28:00years.
- 28:02Uh, sucks.
- 28:02I mean,
- 28:03we get a water slide for the kids
- 28:04and we either, you know,
- 28:07everybody brings a little something or,
- 28:09you know, we've bought a crawfish before,
- 28:11uh, that kind of stuff.
- 28:13And everybody just kind of,
- 28:14those are usually fun times.
- 28:18Uh, we have a look,
- 28:19we have local business sponsor open weeks.
- 28:21Yeah,
- 28:21we did too at my first gym and
- 28:25they would give out prizes and stuff.
- 28:26And it was never for like the fittest
- 28:29person.
- 28:29It was for like the fun thing they
- 28:31did.
- 28:31The other thing Dave said that I think
- 28:33was kind of lost in the shuffle of
- 28:35this thing is that they're also putting
- 28:38together like a playbook on how to do
- 28:41the intramural aspect of the open,
- 28:45which I think is a good thing for
- 28:46affiliates.
- 28:48I'll tell you how we did it.
- 28:50You on a team.
- 28:52Don't care if you signed up for the
- 28:53Open or not.
- 28:54You're welcome.
- 28:55Moving right along.
- 28:57Yeah, but not every gym is, like,
- 29:00your gym is well-established with some of
- 29:03the best coaching in Louisiana, right?
- 29:05It is.
- 29:05Like, you guys are.
- 29:07There are gyms that have just opened,
- 29:09and maybe they don't understand the
- 29:11intramural aspect of the Open.
- 29:13Yeah.
- 29:14I've been to some gyms who don't even,
- 29:16like, promote the Open.
- 29:18Because they don't know what it can bring
- 29:19to you in the local community.
- 29:23And it can bring a lot.
- 29:25Yeah.
- 29:25I'd agree to that.
- 29:27Um, I just know we had,
- 29:28we had a blast last year and, um,
- 29:31in the eight years that I've been there,
- 29:32you know,
- 29:34it had kind of fallen off a little
- 29:35bit as far as the openness concern,
- 29:36like Friday night lights.
- 29:37Cause you want to come in and I
- 29:38just want to do it when I was
- 29:40normally do class and whatnot.
- 29:42And when you take that option away from
- 29:43people and just say, Hey,
- 29:44you're on a team.
- 29:46So you can either show up Friday night
- 29:47or not.
- 29:48It's cool.
- 29:49But you're going to, you know,
- 29:50you put that added pressure of now you're
- 29:52on a team.
- 29:53Um,
- 29:55People show up for that whether they want
- 29:57to or not, right?
- 29:58They'll do stuff for that whether they
- 29:59want to or not because now they're on
- 30:00a team.
- 30:02And especially when you're on a team and
- 30:04you don't get to pick what team you're
- 30:05on.
- 30:07Sorry, we randomly generated these teams.
- 30:09This is what it's going to look like.
- 30:11This coach is in charge of this team.
- 30:12This coach is in charge of this team.
- 30:14This coach is in charge of this team.
- 30:15We had three teams, and my team won,
- 30:17FYI.
- 30:19because we had the best team and we
- 30:20had the best,
- 30:21we had the most participation and we had
- 30:24the most buy-in.
- 30:25Hey bro, let's do this, let's do this,
- 30:26let's do this.
- 30:27Like they showed up with signs and they
- 30:29screamed at everybody.
- 30:31uh showed up and did as much work
- 30:33as they possibly could and nobody shamed
- 30:35anybody if they couldn't make it hey look
- 30:38this person's gonna be out of town um
- 30:39this friday all right that's cool no big
- 30:41deal we got you don't even worry about
- 30:44it um it was a it was a
- 30:47lot of fun it was a whole lot
- 30:48of fun and i would hope that a
- 30:50lot of people are doing the same type
- 30:52things when it comes to the open
- 30:54Because it was our first time doing
- 30:56something like that.
- 30:58And it was a rousing success.
- 31:00And it was it was badass.
- 31:02I appreciated the shit out of it.
- 31:07We'll finish with this.
- 31:08Some of my buddies have moved on from
- 31:10CrossFit.
- 31:10And the only way I can get them
- 31:11together for a WOD is to do partner
- 31:14WODs.
- 31:14They have no interest in Fran or Isabel
- 31:16anymore.
- 31:18shame on them just kidding peter here you
- 31:22do this long thing about not shaming
- 31:24people in the open and then i just
- 31:26shame on you for leaving crossfit it's
- 31:29peter man i love that dude i talked
- 31:31to that dude for two hours in kansas
- 31:33city this year uh we had a we
- 31:36had a blast but uh no um if
- 31:39that's what it takes that's what it takes
- 31:41Again, it's creative, innovative.
- 31:43I think it's a good attempt at something.
- 31:47Now, if you're going to do it,
- 31:48stick to it.
- 31:50Don't half-ass it and then walk away from
- 31:52it.
- 31:53Don't community cup it?
- 31:54Would you say that?
- 31:56Don't community cup it?
- 31:58exactly so the other aspect of the
- 32:00announcement was that according to dave
- 32:04there are a lot of people especially
- 32:06internationally that are trying to become
- 32:08semi-finals to get people to the games and
- 32:10they're having to tell them no so they
- 32:13came up with a creative way to make
- 32:15them licensed events and to now allow them
- 32:21to host a national championship
- 32:23competition in their country
- 32:27Now,
- 32:29as an American here in the United States,
- 32:33I don't think it will work at all
- 32:35because they are too busy getting to the
- 32:39games and being prepped for the games.
- 32:42They don't need another comp added on to
- 32:44their schedule.
- 32:47And which one are you going to select
- 32:49if not?
- 32:52right right like if mayhem is a thing
- 32:56and if legends is a thing and if
- 32:59it probably won't work in australia it
- 33:01probably won't work in some of the
- 33:04european nations like i don't think
- 33:06iceland's gonna like walk away from
- 33:08whatever they're doing you know like to
- 33:10become the national champion yeah but i
- 33:12think in some countries it could be a
- 33:14big deal with someone saying i want to
- 33:17be the national champion of bolivia or
- 33:20Whatever, right?
- 33:22Uganda.
- 33:23I just like saying Uganda.
- 33:24Sorry.
- 33:26And they do that, right?
- 33:28Yeah.
- 33:29So I think that's going to be a
- 33:31mixed bag when it comes to it.
- 33:33But again,
- 33:34at least they're trying some new stuff.
- 33:37I do question whether there truly are this
- 33:40many people saying, yeah,
- 33:42we'll pay for everything to get you,
- 33:44your qualified athletes for the games.
- 33:48And you give us nothing.
- 33:50Like I find that a little bit hard
- 33:51to believe that they're lining up outside
- 33:53the door and they have to tell him,
- 33:55no,
- 33:56it could be just me making shit up
- 33:59in my head.
- 34:00They could,
- 34:00he's just banging on the door to try
- 34:02to get in.
- 34:02Um,
- 34:07I don't know.
- 34:08The whole thing is, is,
- 34:09is you think about all the European
- 34:11countries, right?
- 34:12We got contenders from Spain.
- 34:14We got contenders from France.
- 34:15We got contenders from England.
- 34:16We got continues from the aisle of man
- 34:18for Christ's sake is the, where the,
- 34:21the fittest woman on earth is from right.
- 34:25Ireland, Scotland, like just your,
- 34:26just Europe alone is what, twelve,
- 34:30fifteen countries.
- 34:31I have no idea.
- 34:32I'm making that number up.
- 34:33I could be way off.
- 34:34I mean, I think.
- 34:37hypothetically say Julie Jones wins the
- 34:41Isle of Man national championship and Amy
- 34:44Kringle goes on to win the games and
- 34:46she doesn't get national champion because
- 34:47she didn't do that competition.
- 34:49What does it mean at that point?
- 34:50What does it mean?
- 34:51Yeah, exactly.
- 34:52Exactly.
- 34:55So I understand all that.
- 34:57I'm less confident about this piece than I
- 35:00am about the partner piece.
- 35:03But at least they're trying something.
- 35:08I'm number one in Burnside for forty five,
- 35:10forty nine year old men.
- 35:12Burnside, Louisiana, baby.
- 35:14What's up?
- 35:15Last time I checked,
- 35:15Burnside is not a country or a nation.
- 35:19Maybe not.
- 35:19Maybe not where you're from.
- 35:24KDL is in number one in the nation
- 35:26of domination.
- 35:29Oh, I'm huge in Japan.
- 35:31Does that count?
- 35:34You have to be from the country.
- 35:36Dave did point that out.
- 35:37Dave did say that.
- 35:38Dave did say that.
- 35:39I'd have to get my Japanese citizenship or
- 35:42my Ugandan citizenship.
- 35:44I wonder how hard that is.
- 35:45Vicky,
- 35:47see what I got to do to become
- 35:48a Ugandan citizen, please.
- 35:53I wouldn't try Wakanda.
- 35:54They have some really good athletes in
- 35:56Wakanda.
- 35:57Well,
- 35:57they got that heart shaper where they can
- 35:59make all the great athletes they need to.
- 36:02Although that would probably be considered
- 36:03a PED, right?
- 36:05It should be, if not.
- 36:15What if she had to go head-to-head with
- 36:16Kringle to keep her title?
- 36:20think at this point adding i mean jamie
- 36:23and i talked about this a little bit
- 36:24sunday night like adding another thing to
- 36:26the schedule at this point i think is
- 36:29just bananas hugely so that's a lot dude
- 36:34it's already a lot like this year
- 36:37especially seemed like there was happening
- 36:40all the time and now we're gonna add
- 36:44something else another layer onto it and
- 36:46and again
- 36:48For what?
- 36:50I understand the thinking behind it,
- 36:53right?
- 36:55I enjoyed,
- 36:55I don't want to say the pageantry,
- 36:59but just the idea of like in twenty
- 37:01nineteen, all these people,
- 37:02random ass people showed up knowing damn
- 37:05good and well,
- 37:05they were probably just going to do one
- 37:06workout on the floor, maybe two.
- 37:09And then they were going to get,
- 37:11you know, handed and sent out.
- 37:12But it was still fun to watch.
- 37:15Watching Ben Smith wade through the mass
- 37:19of humanity that was the national
- 37:22champions and just decimate the entire
- 37:25field was fun.
- 37:28I don't give a damn what anybody says.
- 37:29Like that was cool as shit to watch.
- 37:33And I just don't know, like,
- 37:35are we inviting those people to the games
- 37:37because they're the national champion?
- 37:39Like,
- 37:39is that going to be a thing or
- 37:40is it just a title that you get
- 37:41to have?
- 37:42Just a title.
- 37:45I don't get it.
- 37:47Tessa wants to know if we think Mal's
- 37:49coming back.
- 37:52Can I say something that probably people
- 37:54are going to hate?
- 37:55I don't care.
- 37:56I don't either.
- 37:58I really don't.
- 37:59And here's the deal, right?
- 38:02She's been off now, it'll be what,
- 38:04three years?
- 38:05At least.
- 38:07At least.
- 38:09And what made her stop
- 38:16will probably never allow her to get back
- 38:19to the spot where she is a dominant
- 38:21athlete yeah right she had this drive that
- 38:31nobody else had she had this willingness
- 38:33to go to places that nobody else would
- 38:37and it burnt her out so bad she
- 38:39had to walk away
- 38:44I don't see, I don't see her.
- 38:46I don't see anybody that had to stop
- 38:48for the reason that,
- 38:49that she did willingly coming back and
- 38:53thinking that they're going to get back to
- 38:55not just back into the sport and like
- 38:58be able to even qualify for the games,
- 39:01let alone be pushing for the top of
- 39:04the podium.
- 39:06I just don't see it knowing what it
- 39:10costs because you've already been there at
- 39:12that point.
- 39:14I don't see it.
- 39:16So I would say this.
- 39:19Haley Adams took one year off.
- 39:22And she has not been the same athlete
- 39:24when she came back that she was before
- 39:26she left.
- 39:27No, she's happier.
- 39:29Yes, and hallelujah for that.
- 39:33Yeah, good honor.
- 39:34God bless her.
- 39:35I wish her nothing but all the happiness
- 39:38in the world.
- 39:39But nobody's talking about her as being a
- 39:43danger to being on the podium.
- 39:45It's just not a thing, right?
- 39:48And it's not because the sports passed her
- 39:49by.
- 39:49I mean, she still qualifies.
- 39:50She can still make it there, right?
- 39:53She can still make some noise every now
- 39:54and again on an event, but nobody's like,
- 39:57oh, shit, what's Haley doing?
- 40:05Tessa says that Haley was different.
- 40:08The two of them were best friends at
- 40:09the time.
- 40:11Yeah.
- 40:12She just means Haley had an eating
- 40:13disorder, right?
- 40:16Mal burnout.
- 40:17But I think that's two sides to the
- 40:19same coin.
- 40:20I really do because both of them are
- 40:22still here at that point,
- 40:25no matter how you look at it.
- 40:27Haley didn't stop because she hospitalized
- 40:29herself from an eating disorder.
- 40:31She had an eating disorder that she needed
- 40:32to get taken care of so that she
- 40:34didn't hospitalize herself.
- 40:36That's mental.
- 40:38Mal just burned out.
- 40:40Period.
- 40:40From push, push, push, go, go, go.
- 40:42Do we really know why Mal walked away?
- 40:45No,
- 40:46but when Matt Fraser says that he has
- 40:47to pull the reins back on her from
- 40:49doing seventeen Matt Cons a day.
- 40:51Right.
- 40:52But that's making an assumption based on.
- 40:55Yeah, absolutely.
- 40:56Things other people have said.
- 40:58But hey, bro,
- 40:59we are the arbiters of truth.
- 41:01We can say whatever we want to say.
- 41:07Just kidding, folks.
- 41:10Anyway,
- 41:13Lawson went through similar as Mao,
- 41:14but powered through it.
- 41:16We assume.
- 41:17We assume.
- 41:18And here's the other thing, too.
- 41:19Just because she's back in the gym does
- 41:22not mean that she's coming back to
- 41:23compete.
- 41:25Like people take a post like that and
- 41:27look at it and go, oh, man,
- 41:29she's back.
- 41:30Oh, she's back.
- 41:31Because, yeah,
- 41:32she was fun to watch while she was
- 41:33here.
- 41:34But that doesn't mean that just means that
- 41:35she's back in the gym.
- 41:37She is doing fitness.
- 41:39Good for her.
- 41:40I wish everybody would.
- 41:43It doesn't mean that all of a sudden,
- 41:44oh,
- 41:44there's Mal O'Brien back on the sign up
- 41:47for the Open.
- 41:48Here we go.
- 41:48And even if she does sign up for
- 41:50the Open, again,
- 41:52it doesn't mean that she is going to
- 41:53compete until you actually see her come
- 41:55out and say something along the lines of,
- 41:57hey, y'all, I'm back.
- 41:59Here we go.
- 41:59We're going to try to do this one
- 42:00more time.
- 42:01Then everybody's just making these wild
- 42:04ass assumptions because social media has
- 42:08given us this window into everybody's
- 42:10highlight reel that is their life.
- 42:12Come on.
- 42:17So someone that has taught like Rich has
- 42:21told us that he was driven to win
- 42:26at all costs.
- 42:28And we've heard him say now that there
- 42:30are points now that he's comfortable right
- 42:32not competing.
- 42:34I can't get himself back to those dark
- 42:36places.
- 42:40Once you walk away and realize there's
- 42:42life away from CrossFit and you can find
- 42:46happiness in other ways,
- 42:50it's harder to take you to the places
- 42:53that made you great.
- 42:56And I don't think this is CrossFit
- 42:57exclusive.
- 42:59I think this is in all sport.
- 43:02Oh, absolutely.
- 43:10That's why you got to be like me,
- 43:11Corey.
- 43:11Only post the lows on social media.
- 43:16If I would only post my lows,
- 43:18that would be on,
- 43:18it'd be ninety nine percent of what I
- 43:21actually posted.
- 43:24So what I'll tell you is there are
- 43:26exceptions to everything.
- 43:29This is truly this is my opinion and
- 43:31just watching sports my whole life and my
- 43:35opinion based on that.
- 43:37Could she come back?
- 43:38Could she be dominant again?
- 43:40Of course,
- 43:40because there are anomalies to everything.
- 43:45I think it's more likely she doesn't.
- 43:46Yeah.
- 43:51This is fun.
- 43:52Phil Toon is more likely to come back.
- 43:57He's more likely to come back as the
- 43:58thing from the Fantastic Four.
- 44:01That's what Phil Toon is most likely to
- 44:03come back as.
- 44:04Oh, man.
- 44:05I remember seeing him at Waterpalooza.
- 44:08It was like the first time I ever
- 44:10noticed him.
- 44:10I was like, man, that dude is massive.
- 44:14And he was wearing,
- 44:17it's the only time I ever bought a
- 44:17shirt because I saw somebody else wearing
- 44:19it.
- 44:19I was like, that's a really cool shirt.
- 44:21And I went and bought one.
- 44:22And then like three weeks later,
- 44:23he popped.
- 44:25Something on his lines.
- 44:26I was like, son of a bitch.
- 44:29Yeah, I was at the Granite Games.
- 44:30He qualified.
- 44:33Dude,
- 44:33everybody thought he was like one of the
- 44:35next big things, right?
- 44:36Oh, yeah.
- 44:38I mean,
- 44:38he was only taking stuff for his hair
- 44:40loss, dude.
- 44:41Like, I don't understand what happened.
- 44:43Yeah.
- 44:44Really and truly.
- 44:45He was just trying to get his hair
- 44:46back.
- 44:46I mean, come on.
- 44:49Here we go.
- 44:49That's just sports.
- 44:50Yep.
- 44:50KDL,
- 44:51you know I'm going to say it at
- 44:52least once a show.
- 44:54It's just sports.
- 45:01Oh.
- 45:03Not a great day to tell me there's
- 45:05more to life than CrossFit.
- 45:06I just got laid off and got my
- 45:08L-One,
- 45:09and now I'm going to start coaching.
- 45:13I am very,
- 45:14very sad that you got laid off, Seema.
- 45:16And I hope this flip of the coin
- 45:20is a catalyst to make you find happiness.
- 45:25Life is about clearing those hurdles that
- 45:27are thrown at you.
- 45:29And I have seen you clear so many
- 45:31hurdles
- 45:32through your Instagram stories.
- 45:35I,
- 45:35and you are a strong independent woman
- 45:37that can do that.
- 45:38And I think this could be that flip
- 45:42of the switch for you.
- 45:43At least I pray that it is.
- 45:45I hope it is.
- 45:46I absolutely hope it is.
- 45:47I like SEMA way too much.
- 45:49I mean,
- 45:49I would pray for anybody that just got
- 45:51laid off, especially in this economy.
- 45:54God bless you, SEMA.
- 45:55I hope,
- 45:57absolutely praying that it works out for
- 45:58the best.
- 46:05We actually talked about this Sunday night
- 46:07winter.
- 46:08Jamie brought this up on the show.
- 46:11Do you think she'll do that exclusively?
- 46:13No.
- 46:13No, I don't.
- 46:16I think she'd be really good at it
- 46:17because she's an outstanding runner.
- 46:20I think it's going to be in the
- 46:21same vein as James Sprague, as Tia.
- 46:24Go show that you can compete in that
- 46:27as well and do really, really good.
- 46:29But
- 46:32her focus is still going to be crossfit
- 46:34but it's a it's a good off-season trainer
- 46:37yeah you know something different train in
- 46:40the off-season get like she needs more
- 46:43cardio but um clearly she needs to work
- 46:46on her running that's a i'm kidding
- 46:51freaking people don't come at me
- 46:58lots of good lucks for sima and
- 46:59understanding for sima and yeah she's
- 47:02gonna kill it she'll be awesome dude
- 47:07she'll make it she'll bounce back from any
- 47:09of that kind of stuff uh are you
- 47:11gonna be in florida this weekend am i
- 47:14gonna see you on saturday and sunday
- 47:20last thing i wanted to bring up about
- 47:21dave's week in review is he did say
- 47:23that crossfit is dabbling with the idea of
- 47:26doing a mass participation event their own
- 47:28version of like a hyrox or a xenon
- 47:33or a ethics ethics put letters together
- 47:39and just call it something yeah so i
- 47:43don't know we'll see
- 47:47good i hope they do instead of just
- 47:48partnering with everybody else's and just
- 47:50going yeah sure we'll throw our name on
- 47:51there or whatever i'm sure whoever it is
- 47:55ethics had to pay for that xenon had
- 47:58to pay for that to have crossfit freaking
- 48:01tacked on to that that unsurprising but
- 48:04why not why not make their own mass
- 48:07participation event that's not just to
- 48:09open like something you can do where
- 48:11people can just show up i mean hyrox
- 48:15is worth how much money
- 48:18Billions?
- 48:18Valuations in the billions now, I guess.
- 48:21Yeah.
- 48:21Billions would it be?
- 48:24Why not make your money while you can?
- 48:27While it's there to be made.
- 48:28Clearly, there's interest.
- 48:30Clearly, people are wanting to do this.
- 48:33The Xenon thing,
- 48:34people have it figured out.
- 48:36I say figured out,
- 48:36but seeing what it actually is.
- 48:40Just knocked my speaker off again.
- 48:42People are registering,
- 48:44signing up for it and whatnot.
- 48:45So why not do something like that?
- 48:50I feel like the mass participation events
- 48:53are like the DJ Khaled of fitness.
- 48:56And another one.
- 48:57And another one.
- 48:59And another one.
- 49:05You're not wrong.
- 49:08And like, if I'm running CrossFit,
- 49:13I would pick the one that I think
- 49:15has the most chance to succeed.
- 49:18And then partner up in more than just
- 49:21namesake, but partner up in marketing,
- 49:25partner up in giving them funding,
- 49:28partner up in getting them relationships
- 49:30with like Rogue and different equipment
- 49:33companies and seeing if you can truly then
- 49:35compete with High Rocks.
- 49:38This is the problem when you have an
- 49:41actual business background and an MBA in
- 49:43business and all that stuff.
- 49:44You keep throwing out logical,
- 49:45sound-sounding ideas that actually could
- 49:48possibly work and make them money just for
- 49:51them to ignore the ever-living shit out of
- 49:53you just like they ignore the ever-living
- 49:54shit out of people who also probably tell
- 49:56them that.
- 49:58Well, here's the deal.
- 50:01Is it better to take someone that already
- 50:04has an existing game plan
- 50:07Maybe it needs tweaked,
- 50:08but at least it's already established in
- 50:10some kind of version.
- 50:11Right.
- 50:13Or create the seventh version of it that
- 50:17people are just tired of already.
- 50:19Like we had Spartan Race into Tough Mudder
- 50:23into Warrior Dash into like,
- 50:26and then there got to be so many
- 50:27of these.
- 50:29Then it became Bubble Runs and Paint Runs
- 50:31and...
- 50:33All that shit of color relations.
- 50:36And then nobody did them anymore.
- 50:38They just, everybody were like, okay,
- 50:39this is enough.
- 50:40I'm done.
- 50:44Scott is too knowledgeable and he doesn't
- 50:46even read, you know, it, it doesn't,
- 50:51I don't, I don't disagree whatsoever.
- 50:55And I was thinking about that while you
- 50:56were going through and like,
- 50:58I don't remember the last time I saw.
- 51:01somebody advertise for a Spartan race or a
- 51:06tough motor.
- 51:08If I remember right,
- 51:09that's what Hunter was doing before high
- 51:11rocks became a thing was all these
- 51:14obstacle course races.
- 51:15Right.
- 51:17And then he kind of fell into that.
- 51:19Now he's one of the best ever, um,
- 51:22high rockers or whatnot,
- 51:23but you don't see those things around
- 51:25anymore.
- 51:26No.
- 51:28So, Fake Savant says,
- 51:30MBAs are worthless since taught by
- 51:32professors, not industry professionals.
- 51:34I don't know what MBA you're referring to
- 51:37because the one I got was not taught
- 51:40by a guy that was just a professor.
- 51:42Every one of my professors in my MBA
- 51:45worked in the industry they were teaching.
- 51:50And the majority of an MBA,
- 51:52if it's done right,
- 51:54is collaboration with your
- 51:57classmates that are also working in the
- 52:00real world every single person in my
- 52:05cohort of my mba worked professionally in
- 52:08different industries and we compared and
- 52:11talked notes and we went over case studies
- 52:13and things like that not a single one
- 52:15of them was just a an exclusive professor
- 52:19MBAs get a bad name because of all
- 52:21these online versions that are out there
- 52:23now.
- 52:24And they're just quick hitters.
- 52:27But damn it,
- 52:28I went to class every single week for
- 52:30my MBA in person, had discussions,
- 52:34had debates,
- 52:35argued vehemently over our thoughts.
- 52:39That's what an MBA is supposed to be.
- 52:43And I'm proud of mine that I got
- 52:45mine.
- 52:47even though I'm still paying for it and
- 52:48will be until I die.
- 52:49It's fine.
- 52:51It's fine.
- 52:51That's immaterial.
- 52:54Dega says he's still getting ads on
- 52:56Instagram for Spartan and Tough Motors.
- 52:58I have not seen one.
- 53:00I have honestly,
- 53:02I don't know when the last time I
- 53:03saw an ad for one was.
- 53:05I really, really don't.
- 53:08I get stuff for Xenon.
- 53:10I get stuff for High Rocks.
- 53:14We're talking about Ortega,
- 53:15and who knows what his algorithm is.
- 53:17That is a fair point.
- 53:19That is a fair point.
- 53:23Oh,
- 53:23and then Sten said Spartan actually bought
- 53:25Tough Motor a few years ago as well,
- 53:27which tracks.
- 53:29That makes sense.
- 53:29He bought those two things into the same
- 53:32thing.
- 53:35And I hear Olive saying she also gets
- 53:37ads.
- 53:37Because I just said that,
- 53:40I'm going to open my Instagram after we
- 53:41get done,
- 53:42and I'm going to get bombarded with it,
- 53:44whatever,
- 53:45probably everything from the bubble run to
- 53:47the color run to the Spartan Mudder tough
- 53:51guy, whatever they are now.
- 53:54I have no idea what they're called
- 53:55anymore.
- 53:57I was just trying to be funny, Ortega.
- 53:58That's all.
- 54:05Fake Savant,
- 54:06your classmates were professionals,
- 54:07not the professor.
- 54:09Excuse me,
- 54:10I didn't see you in my class.
- 54:14Every single one of my professors worked
- 54:16in a professional industry.
- 54:18They were adjunct professors that came in
- 54:21and worked at night as an addition to
- 54:23their daytime job.
- 54:27Scott's using all his vocabulary today.
- 54:30Adjunct professors.
- 54:36Mark Phillips has one.
- 54:37It's just paper.
- 54:38It's paid for at least.
- 54:41I've probably used more from my MBA in
- 54:44my real life than I have anything else
- 54:47I've ever done,
- 54:48but it didn't change my job.
- 54:52I'm still working at the same place.
- 54:54Anyway, it doesn't matter.
- 54:57Which he loves, FYI.
- 54:59Scott's a big fan of his job.
- 55:00I love my job.
- 55:01Huge, huge fan of his job.
- 55:04job loves it loves it loves it's his
- 55:07favorite thing to do scott's job and
- 55:11reading like an atlas or the encyclopedia
- 55:16probably encyclopedia britannica like
- 55:19about wouldn't wait about the same right
- 55:24there right there on the list of things
- 55:26scott loves to do it's pretty close
- 55:31I know, like,
- 55:32I don't this didn't mean to be into
- 55:33a big diatribe about MBAs.
- 55:35But I know it.
- 55:37And I'm not a big fan of the
- 55:38Ohio State University and their football
- 55:40team and everything to get it really,
- 55:42you've never mentioned that.
- 55:45To get into their MBA program,
- 55:46you have to have like five years work
- 55:48experience.
- 55:51It's just like,
- 55:53it all depends on where you get it
- 55:56from.
- 56:01Scott's job is on his fight list.
- 56:03It's LeVar Burton, his job.
- 56:08And it's not even one and two.
- 56:10It's like one A and one B. Oh.
- 56:17OSU hurt Scott.
- 56:19I attended Ohio State University in
- 56:22nineteen eighty eight.
- 56:25See, and I hated every moment of it.
- 56:32that is fantastic i don't think he wanted
- 56:35to fight the fart guy i was just
- 56:37saying yeah i didn't i who knows what
- 56:41was going to come out if i punched
- 56:43him man that's right you don't want to
- 56:45fight a guy who's just lifting up on
- 56:48one cheek to let one loose in a
- 56:49restaurant like that's probably not the
- 56:51guy you want to fight just throwing that
- 56:53out there you don't know what's about to
- 56:54happen next if you punch him in the
- 56:55face
- 56:57All right,
- 56:57I have two more things I got to
- 56:59go.
- 56:59Let's go.
- 57:00Because my wife will be coming back,
- 57:01and that is, one,
- 57:03I believe that I lost a bet to
- 57:05Meg.
- 57:06Oh, no.
- 57:09It sucks when three of your fantasy
- 57:12starters go out in the first quarter of
- 57:14a game,
- 57:15and your fourth one is Caleb Williams who
- 57:17went out at the end of the game.
- 57:19So, I don't know.
- 57:23I may propose a double or nothing if
- 57:25we play again.
- 57:28She's not going to take it.
- 57:30I don't think she'll take it,
- 57:31but I'm going to try.
- 57:31I'm going to try.
- 57:33Maybe I'll send her some Huckleberry ice
- 57:35cream or something.
- 57:36Yeah, good luck.
- 57:40Good luck.
- 57:41I don't think she's going to take that
- 57:42deal.
- 57:45And the last thing I was going to
- 57:46talk about is Caleb.
- 57:47Man, I was depressed Sunday.
- 57:51And when the news came out yesterday that
- 57:53it was just a strained hamstring,
- 57:57The only thing I want to say is
- 57:58all you haters that have been waiting for
- 58:00a year to hate on Caleb after the
- 58:01year he had, man,
- 58:03they came out of the woodwork.
- 58:06Pounding the ground and crying on the
- 58:08field and carried off,
- 58:10and it's only a grade one hamstring.
- 58:15They were sitting there like this,
- 58:16just waiting for a year.
- 58:17Just waiting.
- 58:18He's going to do something stupid.
- 58:19He's coming.
- 58:19He's coming.
- 58:20He's coming.
- 58:23The thing is,
- 58:26when you there it is this is what
- 58:29i've been told by chicago bear people that
- 58:32not only did he tear that he had
- 58:34the hamstring strain but he also like
- 58:37locked up at the same time like his
- 58:40body was trying to protect itself yeah and
- 58:45so it could have felt way more painful
- 58:47than the actual injury and then the
- 58:50trainers loosened him up
- 58:53Probably gave him some Toradol,
- 58:55and he felt better after the fact.
- 58:58You gave me some Toradol.
- 58:59I felt I'd feel better during the fact.
- 59:02I didn't have to wait to get all
- 59:04the way through.
- 59:04And that the trainers probably told him
- 59:06not to try to walk off to get
- 59:08on the cart.
- 59:09We need to make sure you're okay because
- 59:11without you,
- 59:13we will not have the season we
- 59:14anticipated.
- 59:16I mean, it's your franchise quarterback.
- 59:18You're going to treat him like he's –
- 59:20like that scene in Spider-Man, too,
- 59:22where they like –
- 59:23Careful, he's a hero.
- 59:26It's that type of stuff.
- 59:30I will say some of the jokes are
- 59:31funny.
- 59:32Yes, Clock, they are.
- 59:33But I don't know.
- 59:35I just...
- 59:36When Get Up was going after him today,
- 59:38I just lost it.
- 59:39So...
- 59:40But I will say this.
- 59:43You're Tyler Shuck, dude.
- 59:44You've got to be excited.
- 59:47That dude's for real.
- 59:48Because your best receiver's been on IR
- 59:51since training camp.
- 59:52Yes, he has.
- 59:54And when he comes out, I would not.
- 1:00:00I don't know.
- 1:00:04Shuck is the real deal.
- 1:00:06He is.
- 1:00:09He is unimaginably humble.
- 1:00:11You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:12He's having fun during press conferences,
- 1:00:16like when he's out there on the field
- 1:00:17and whatnot.
- 1:00:19For us to go into Baltimore,
- 1:00:22which nobody gave us a chance to win,
- 1:00:24FYI.
- 1:00:25He didn't score that touchdown,
- 1:00:26by the way.
- 1:00:27Yeah.
- 1:00:29Now he got his face mask ripped off
- 1:00:30that didn't get called.
- 1:00:32Right.
- 1:00:33But yeah,
- 1:00:34just so so so he didn't score a
- 1:00:36touchdown.
- 1:00:37So did they call it a touchdown?
- 1:00:39They did.
- 1:00:39OK, well, then he scored the touchdown.
- 1:00:41Same thing with the pass it.
- 1:00:42No, no, dude.
- 1:00:43We've been getting screwed for years.
- 1:00:47You're not letting go of that pass
- 1:00:49interference back in like nineteen ninety
- 1:00:51four.
- 1:00:51Right.
- 1:00:52Never, never.
- 1:00:55As a lifelong Saints fan and somebody who
- 1:00:57admittedly just started watching after
- 1:00:59six... No, shit, longer than that.
- 1:01:01After about nine years of not watching the
- 1:01:03NFL.
- 1:01:03Yeah.
- 1:01:06He's the real deal.
- 1:01:07And no, we're never, ever, ever,
- 1:01:09ever letting it go.
- 1:01:10It's not happening.
- 1:01:12It's the worst no-call probably in sports
- 1:01:14history.
- 1:01:14Not even in...
- 1:01:16I re-watched it the other day.
- 1:01:17It came up on my Instagram feed.
- 1:01:20And like...
- 1:01:21He didn't even look like not didn't have
- 1:01:23a handout.
- 1:01:24Like maybe I'll swat the ball away.
- 1:01:26Oh, I accidentally ran into him.
- 1:01:27No, he just started.
- 1:01:28We're going to,
- 1:01:28we're going to move on to twenty twenty
- 1:01:30six.
- 1:01:31Good.
- 1:01:32Go for it.
- 1:01:33Understand you just you're just trying to
- 1:01:35poke the bear again.
- 1:01:37And a whole point.
- 1:01:42But for the talent and the potential,
- 1:01:46give me Caleb or Josh Allen.
- 1:01:48That's it.
- 1:01:49Everybody else.
- 1:01:50So that was a big thing that Baltimore's
- 1:01:54defensive coordinator was like,
- 1:01:55Tyler Shook's like a poor man's Josh
- 1:01:57Allen.
- 1:01:57He's like, hmm, okay.
- 1:02:01I would take that.
- 1:02:03Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the
- 1:02:05NFL.
- 1:02:05Any version of Josh Allen is a good
- 1:02:08version.
- 1:02:09Shook thought it was funny,
- 1:02:11but he said the same thing.
- 1:02:12He's like, I'll take that.
- 1:02:13No big deal.
- 1:02:14I can roll with that.
- 1:02:17All right, guys, I'm going to head out.
- 1:02:20I'm going to spend some lunch and dinner
- 1:02:22with my daughter,
- 1:02:22and then we're heading back tomorrow.
- 1:02:24There may be a show tomorrow.
- 1:02:26I may be able to squeeze it in
- 1:02:27before I head to the airport.
- 1:02:29I'll let you guys know tonight.
- 1:02:31I don't have anything scheduled out there
- 1:02:33yet, but if you see it pop up,
- 1:02:36that means we'll be on tomorrow,
- 1:02:37but it may be an abbreviated show.
- 1:02:41Just be here.
- 1:02:41Be ready.
- 1:02:43And get your thirds in.
