- 0:24Speaker 1: cut there, Freddy, I did Dad jail Bobart down here
- 0:27Speaker 1: in Fox in the morning Street you get fresh cuts?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Look coming out, fred I didn't. I didn't notice you.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I asked Todd Downing. This left you know. I had
- 0:35Speaker 2: a chance to talk to Todd Downing last week. That
- 0:38Speaker 2: was in the Espianism right now, I had a chance
- 0:40Speaker 2: to talk to Todd Downing me in about thirty of
- 0:43Speaker 2: my closest friends.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Where were you watching the game, Brian, I'm at home
- 0:47Speaker 1: just by yourself.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean pretty much.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean, you know, whether you or not game though,
- 0:54Speaker 1: people coming in and out probably have been questioned for you. Yeah, Martin,
- 1:00Speaker 1: there's something growing, there's something. Maybe it was garbage.
- 1:04Speaker 2: The Browns are not pretty good.
- 1:06Speaker 1: They have defense is number one in the league.
- 1:07Speaker 2: The defense is good.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Okay, they're good. So they have two and five they
- 1:11Speaker 1: have they have a superpower that can give you trouble.
- 1:14Speaker 4: If they get to seventeen points, I'd be shocked.
- 1:16Speaker 1: You and Bars live pants off? Pants on?
- 1:20Speaker 4: I hope the pants stay on.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Okay, well, you're behind the desk. No one would know.
- 1:23Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:28Speaker 1: deals by a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome to
- 1:33Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here at Jillette Stadium, and today,
- 1:38Speaker 1: of course, is our turn the page day. We're going
- 1:40Speaker 1: to turn the page to the number one defense in
- 1:43Speaker 1: the NFL, Cleveland Browns with Miles Garrett based off of
- 1:47Speaker 1: what are they based on? That's what we're going to
- 1:49Speaker 1: talk about. And then of course I'll have we'll have
- 1:53Speaker 1: our Wednesday live press conference with Mike Rabel around twelve
- 1:56Speaker 1: fifty five.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I believe can confirm pants on, they were off. He
- 2:01Speaker 2: just finished Catch twenty two. We do have the desk,
- 2:03Speaker 2: Fred said, no one would know because you're behind the desks.
- 2:09Speaker 5: After Catch twenty two. Sometimes I do feel like I
- 2:11Speaker 5: need to like take a shower or something. Wow, like
- 2:13Speaker 5: you just get really into weeds and you're just like,
- 2:16Speaker 5: you know, it's it's it's tiring, cold shower, hot show.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I just do cold showers.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But I like, because you know, I come into the
- 2:25Speaker 1: studio before they're done with Catch twenty two. So I
- 2:27Speaker 1: catch the end of it, and you know, so the
- 2:30Speaker 1: show's over. Evan's out ready to go, and Barth is
- 2:35Speaker 1: still in here, and I hear, go, come on, Barth,
- 2:38Speaker 1: let's go like that. It's just like two because.
- 2:41Speaker 5: He's got he's got to pick up all of his craft.
- 2:44Speaker 5: And I'm like, you know, he takes out the computer
- 2:46Speaker 5: and then he takes out the charger and he has
- 2:49Speaker 5: this whole thing. I'm like, why do you need the charger?
- 2:52Speaker 5: Like it's two hours?
- 2:53Speaker 6: It's not.
- 2:53Speaker 4: It's not a ten hour show.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Is the computer really going to die in the two
- 2:57Speaker 5: hours that we're on the shows?
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's a lot alone. He's got his ways of doing things.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It does. I just I just hope if the Patriots,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you know, do go to the super Bowl, against all odds,
- 3:13Speaker 1: that that station is, you know, does the right thing.
- 3:17Speaker 4: It's going to be sleeping on the floor in my
- 3:19Speaker 4: hotel and sends them.
- 3:20Speaker 1: You know, I think we content wise could have some
- 3:24Speaker 1: fun with him down there. Yeah, you send you out
- 3:29Speaker 1: on the streets.
- 3:30Speaker 4: On the streets, you could you could quiz.
- 3:33Speaker 1: People, you could quiz people on X's and o's on
- 3:36Speaker 1: the streets. So are you a football fan? Yeah, okay,
- 3:39Speaker 1: let's test your knowledge and then you start getting into it.
- 3:41Speaker 4: But people, yeah, it's not it's not good.
- 3:46Speaker 1: It would be good.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I did that to just once and it was bad. Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I survived it though.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Okay, all right, anyway, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me,
- 3:55Speaker 1: it's Deuce, it's Alex and the Booth. And we are
- 3:58Speaker 1: turning the page to the Clean Browns. We're done with
- 4:02Speaker 1: the Titans. We've put them to rest. We've given the
- 4:05Speaker 1: rest of the league the blueprint to beat this that
- 4:07Speaker 1: one win team. And so now we move on to
- 4:11Speaker 1: the Cleveland Browns. How how do we score points against
- 4:16Speaker 1: this defense? Yeah?
- 4:18Speaker 7: Just keep playing the way Drake Mason playing. It's hard
- 4:21Speaker 7: to say he won't move the ball and score some points.
- 4:23Speaker 7: But I'm excited for this matchup. It's like I said,
- 4:26Speaker 7: I think it's the best defense they've gone up against
- 4:28Speaker 7: this year. Play a lot of man. You got Miles
- 4:31Speaker 7: Garrett mostly plays on that right side over Will Campbell.
- 4:34Speaker 7: They've got a number of pass rushers that they're going
- 4:36Speaker 7: to rotate through Malie Collins, Mason Graham, among others that
- 4:40Speaker 7: you know, are disruptive, and it's that you know Jim
- 4:42Speaker 7: Schwartz thing with the wide nine.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So you're doing your matchups, you know, quarterback blah blah blah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: our offensive line versus their defensive line. Who wins that matchup?
- 4:51Speaker 1: They probably their defensive line, I'd see right now, I
- 4:53Speaker 1: would okay, our receivers versus their cornerbacks. Who wins that matchups? Receivers?
- 5:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean wards are really good players, but they've
- 5:02Speaker 4: struggled on.
- 5:03Speaker 1: They swapped Newsome for our short passing game versus their
- 5:07Speaker 1: short coverage game. Who wins that matchup? There? Then?
- 5:10Speaker 4: Yeah, they have good linebackers.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Okay, our running game versus their defensive run stop browns
- 5:18Speaker 1: brown Okay, so we're scoring about fourteen points is what
- 5:21Speaker 1: you're saying, like three, Well, so far they've we've only
- 5:24Speaker 1: won one matchup.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Offense, the most important one.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, are created equal quarterback. We gave the edge to
- 5:34Speaker 2: the Patriots quarterback right against who against their secondary?
- 5:39Speaker 1: You just said in the short passing game they have
- 5:41Speaker 1: short passing games. Okay, that's a quarterback.
- 5:43Speaker 2: But the first one you said something about the quarterback
- 5:45Speaker 2: and receivers against their secondary.
- 5:46Speaker 1: That's right, and we also haven't mentioned the quarterback yet.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I said our receivers versus their quarnerback.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And we all gave the edge to the Patriots. That's right,
- 5:53Speaker 2: because of Drake may right. Well, right, but I meant
- 5:57Speaker 2: to speak for Evan and I said edge Patriots for that.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But but you gave them the short passing game.
- 6:07Speaker 2: The short passing game, yes, and that's no, I have
- 6:10Speaker 2: no interest in not likely, No, I mean the short
- 6:14Speaker 2: passing game.
- 6:14Speaker 7: I think what stands out to me is this Browns
- 6:16Speaker 7: team really flies to the ball and tackles.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So we're not going to be able to run. We're
- 6:20Speaker 1: not going to be able to throw the ball short.
- 6:23Speaker 5: Well, I wouldn't say you're not going to be able
- 6:25Speaker 5: to like this isn't the eighty five bear?
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, you're exaggerating a little bit.
- 6:29Speaker 1: You're giving them the edge.
- 6:31Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I think they have a pretty good defense. Yeah, I
- 6:34Speaker 2: do pretty good. Yeah. No, I mean I don't know
- 6:36Speaker 2: if it's the best. I mean, I know they use
- 6:38Speaker 2: numbers that we all agree are not the best.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Gauge the number one defense by yards.
- 6:44Speaker 1: They're number one. Yeah, right, there we go.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So I'm not telling you this is not a good defense.
- 6:48Speaker 2: This is a good defense, but even good defenses can
- 6:52Speaker 2: get beat by good offense. When they played Detroit as
- 6:55Speaker 2: an example, they get up thirty four, so Detroit a
- 7:00Speaker 2: good offense, and they find a way. They don't just
- 7:02Speaker 2: bomb away every play like they found a way to
- 7:04Speaker 2: move the ball. Now, I think the biggest thing to
- 7:07Speaker 2: score points in this game. You know, the key matchup
- 7:10Speaker 2: to me is the does the Patriots defense finally take
- 7:13Speaker 2: a bad offense and make it look bad, because that's
- 7:16Speaker 2: what generally happens to the Browns defense. They're on the
- 7:19Speaker 2: field too much. You just can't you can't hold everything
- 7:23Speaker 2: the whole time. And I'm looking at their score by quarters,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you know, and it's it's reasonably close every quarter, twenty
- 7:29Speaker 2: seven to seventeen, they're out. They're outscored in every quarter.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But twenty seven to seventeen in the first quarter, forty
- 7:34Speaker 2: two to thirty three in the second, thirty four to
- 7:36Speaker 2: thirty three in the third, all reasonably close, forty nine
- 7:39Speaker 2: to thirty in the fourth. It's like you can only
- 7:42Speaker 2: hold on so long. That tells that stat tells me
- 7:45Speaker 2: that the defense plays well, and then you know, they
- 7:49Speaker 2: get beaten down mentally by the fact that their offense
- 7:51Speaker 2: can't move the ball, they're always chasing.
- 7:53Speaker 1: What about time a possession?
- 7:55Speaker 2: I can look that up for you.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Hold on, yeah, I would.
- 7:57Speaker 7: I would just say, I think, don't turn the ball over,
- 8:00Speaker 7: don't regress Drake May and give them fumbles, give them
- 8:03Speaker 7: extra possessions, and that's when one of the ones. I
- 8:05Speaker 7: think they could close the gap there. But they just
- 8:08Speaker 7: played clean football for four quarters. I think they should
- 8:11Speaker 7: get enough separation to win the game.
- 8:12Speaker 5: So the only way they lose, the only way they lose
- 8:14Speaker 5: this game is if it's a Pittsburgh Reducks and they
- 8:17Speaker 5: turned the ball over a bunch of times. Because this
- 8:19Speaker 5: Browns offense is not going to drive the field consistently.
- 8:23Speaker 5: They really only had two scoring drives last week. They
- 8:25Speaker 5: scored ten real points. The rest of it came off
- 8:28Speaker 5: of turnovers or pick sixes.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So, like I mean, just to illustrate that, sixteen seventeen, thirteen,
- 8:34Speaker 2: ten seventeen nine.
- 8:36Speaker 1: That's their scoring drives.
- 8:38Speaker 2: No, that's the point totals in every game until last week,
- 8:41Speaker 2: thirty one. And the reason for the thirty one continue.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Yeah, they scored twenty one of their thirty one points
- 8:47Speaker 5: off turnovers. One of them was an actual pick six
- 8:50Speaker 5: and one of them was returned to the two yard line,
- 8:53Speaker 5: so and then the other one was a fumble that
- 8:55Speaker 5: they recovered in Miami territory.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So they really had two drive.
- 9:00Speaker 5: I've stay had one legitimate drive and Quinn John Jenkins
- 9:03Speaker 5: hit a forty six yard touchdown, and so that that
- 9:06Speaker 5: was the real offense, Like they had ten real points.
- 9:09Speaker 4: They're in the game last week.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Schwartz is their defensive coordinator.
- 9:12Speaker 7: He is He's good defense, super aggressive.
- 9:16Speaker 1: He's one of those guys who tried to be a
- 9:18Speaker 1: head coach but settled back to where his peak efficiency is,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and that's being a defensive coordinator.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Very good.
- 9:26Speaker 2: He's very He's a good defensive coordinator. But Josh Uh
- 9:30Speaker 2: Josh was here in the Super Bowl and against the Eagles, right,
- 9:33Speaker 2: Josh was the offensive coordinator and they had like seventeen
- 9:35Speaker 2: five hundred yards of passing.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Was that still Jim Schwartz?
- 9:38Speaker 2: I think I think that was a Jim Schwartz defense.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Am I wrong on that?
- 9:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I think that that was one of those It was
- 9:44Speaker 2: one of those that I get in trouble with when
- 9:46Speaker 2: I go off the top of my dators and then
- 9:48Speaker 2: Mike comes back and goes well, actually, Paul, that was
- 9:49Speaker 2: a three four, you remember.
- 9:53Speaker 5: I think that there's certain vulnerabilities in the Browns defense
- 9:58Speaker 5: that really play into the strains the Patriots offense. I think,
- 10:02Speaker 5: you know, play action, moving the pocket, deep shots down
- 10:05Speaker 5: the field. They've struggled with all those types of things.
- 10:08Speaker 5: They're very, very aggressive defense. So if you get their
- 10:10Speaker 5: eyes in the wrong places, then you can beat them
- 10:13Speaker 5: down the field with you know, those types of tricks.
- 10:16Speaker 5: So I don't think this is one of those games
- 10:19Speaker 5: where you want Drake made to drop back and pass
- 10:21Speaker 5: thirty five times. But if you move the pocket, if
- 10:24Speaker 5: you get them out on the edge, if you have them,
- 10:27Speaker 5: you know, drop back pass just only a few times
- 10:30Speaker 5: in the game.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Traditionally.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I think that there's ways to move the ball against
- 10:34Speaker 5: the Browns in the through the air, like they're they're
- 10:36Speaker 5: really good defense. They're only eleventh in drop back EPA.
- 10:40Speaker 5: It's not like they're like, you know, number one across
- 10:43Speaker 5: the board and everything. They're really stingy against the run,
- 10:46Speaker 5: and they have a Hall of Fame player in Miles
- 10:48Speaker 5: Garrett coming off the edge going up against a rookie
- 10:51Speaker 5: left tackle. So if you have to as a as
- 10:54Speaker 5: a staff, as a coaching staff, you have to have
- 10:57Speaker 5: a real sound plan of how are we going to
- 11:02Speaker 5: block ninety five? And it has to be every play
- 11:06Speaker 5: like he has to be in the play call, every
- 11:09Speaker 5: single time you call the play. There has to be
- 11:11Speaker 5: some sort of bell and whistle that's accounting for Miles Garrett.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Does that limit you on offense? You know, because you're
- 11:19Speaker 1: you're using that extra person, not.
- 11:20Speaker 7: If you're preventing him from blowing your game plan up.
- 11:22Speaker 7: You know, I think, I mean, I think it's worth
- 11:24Speaker 7: the attention, Evan said, But I just think there's a
- 11:26Speaker 7: number of storylines in this game that are interesting to me.
- 11:28Speaker 7: Drake May going up against the best defense he's faced,
- 11:31Speaker 7: Will Campbell against Miles Garrett. You know, the penchant for
- 11:35Speaker 7: Dylan Gabriel to use his tight ends and backs underneath,
- 11:38Speaker 7: and it's kind of attack he doesn't. They don't really
- 11:39Speaker 7: have the downfield passing game, but Gabriel has been safe
- 11:43Speaker 7: with the ball, and if Djoku plays, then they might
- 11:47Speaker 7: challenge the Patriots and some of their weaknesses.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Covering more than that, because I want to see the
- 11:52Speaker 2: defense finally make one of these bad offenses look bad. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 2: and those are some of the things that the Patriots
- 11:58Speaker 2: are struggled with. Let's see, if you know, they've made
- 12:02Speaker 2: some progress on it. To answer your question, by the way,
- 12:04Speaker 2: about the time of possession, about even.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Even yeah, thirty that's surprising.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Thirty forty seven to twenty nine thirteen. I just think
- 12:10Speaker 2: that you get beaten down when you can't score. And
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean sixteen seventeen thirteen, ten seventeen nine, that's the
- 12:17Speaker 2: point totals in the first six games of the season. Like,
- 12:21Speaker 2: if you're playing defense, it's hard to go out there
- 12:23Speaker 2: every drive and say, oh, we got to get the
- 12:26Speaker 2: ball back for him again.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 5: It reminds me a little bit about of like the
- 12:31Speaker 5: like twenty two ish Patriots, like the twenty twenty two
- 12:34Speaker 5: like time Patriots, where you know, they really you know,
- 12:38Speaker 5: I think this defense probably better than those Patriots defenses were.
- 12:40Speaker 5: But you don't have a real passing game and your
- 12:44Speaker 5: run game, your short quick underneath stuff, your screen game,
- 12:47Speaker 5: your quick game, your tight ends, like that's that's where
- 12:51Speaker 5: you're living offensively, and at some point, and I think
- 12:54Speaker 5: we've seen it with Miles Garrett, like the frustration is
- 12:56Speaker 5: starting to boil over from Miles Garrett look out where
- 12:59Speaker 5: he's like, you know, swinging this is like we I
- 13:04Speaker 5: have been here how many years and we still can't score. Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 5: and so every single game I play in, we're down
- 13:10Speaker 5: fourteen points, and like, I think that that frustration is
- 13:13Speaker 5: starting to boil over. He's had some comments in the
- 13:15Speaker 5: media over the last like week or two that have
- 13:17Speaker 5: been surprising to me. Like I thought maybe they were
- 13:20Speaker 5: like AI or something, you know, like that are just
- 13:22Speaker 5: coming out and saying like, you know, we don't score enough.
- 13:26Speaker 5: You know, I don't get to pass rush with the lead,
- 13:28Speaker 5: you know. I like they asked him about Joe Flacco
- 13:32Speaker 5: and what he did in Cincinnati last week, and he
- 13:34Speaker 5: was like, yeah, would have been nice, you know, Like it's.
- 13:37Speaker 2: He was pretty bad with the BRI I mean he
- 13:39Speaker 2: had a sixty passer rating for Cleveland and whatever many
- 13:42Speaker 2: games that was five games. That's pretty bad. Yeah, so
- 13:45Speaker 2: four games, I guess.
- 13:46Speaker 1: So on the other side of the ball for Cleveland
- 13:49Speaker 1: their offense, is this solely because they don't have a
- 13:51Speaker 1: quarterback or do they just not have talent across the board.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I mean they have a little bit.
- 13:56Speaker 7: I mean Jerry Judy I think is a is a
- 13:57Speaker 7: good receiver, but it's a lot of it's it's young guys.
- 14:00Speaker 7: It's Harold Fannin's a rookie that they're playing at tight
- 14:02Speaker 7: end and he's you know, leading them in receptions.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Najoku is right behind him. Quin Shawn Jenkins is another rookie.
- 14:08Speaker 7: So you know, you're looking at a number of rookies,
- 14:10Speaker 7: even on the defensive side of the ball as well.
- 14:12Speaker 1: So I think it's a young offense.
- 14:14Speaker 7: I don't think Dylan Gabriel has the arm and talent
- 14:17Speaker 7: to really consistently push it down the field. But he's mobile,
- 14:20Speaker 7: and like I said, he hasn't made mistakes. He hasn't
- 14:22Speaker 7: turned the ball over in the three starts that he's had.
- 14:24Speaker 7: So going back to like our Patriot days of those
- 14:28Speaker 7: when your offense is struggling, that's what you got to
- 14:30Speaker 7: start there. If you don't turn the ball over, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 7: you might give yourself a chance to Miles Garrett comes
- 14:35Speaker 7: out here and blows by Will Campbell and it's a
- 14:37Speaker 7: you know, scoop six and then all of a sudden,
- 14:39Speaker 7: you know, changes the game. So that's what, like Evan said,
- 14:41Speaker 7: you have to rely on that kind of.
- 14:43Speaker 2: It's both though, like I mean the quarterback issues that
- 14:45Speaker 2: Mike just talked about, they don't have many weapons. I mean,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I think Judkins looks like a good, good rookie running back,
- 14:51Speaker 2: and I'd be curious to see what Isaiah Bond looks like.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yeah, now, but that's I liked him.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Coming out of reach to me is pedestrian at best,
- 15:02Speaker 2: and he's by far and away the best wide receiver
- 15:04Speaker 2: they have. I mean, there's no one really close Number two.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Yeah, he's streaky though, Like he can have those games
- 15:10Speaker 5: you know, where he comes out and he has one
- 15:11Speaker 5: hundred and fifty yards and then they'll go away for
- 15:13Speaker 5: a couple of weeks. So he does have that capability.
- 15:16Speaker 5: But I think it's the quarterback is the main thing.
- 15:18Speaker 5: But their offensive line has also regressed from like the
- 15:21Speaker 5: Bill injuries, like peak Cleveland offensive line days with Nick Chubb,
- 15:26Speaker 5: and like those offenses, their tackles are not as good
- 15:29Speaker 5: as they used to be. Camer Robinson's having a tough
- 15:31Speaker 5: year at left tackle they had, Dewan Jones is hurt
- 15:34Speaker 5: at right tackles at the backup on right tackle, Bill
- 15:37Speaker 5: Callahan's not there anymore. As we talked about last week,
- 15:40Speaker 5: with him in Tennessee. So it's not that line is
- 15:44Speaker 5: not as good as it has been. That used to
- 15:46Speaker 5: be one of the best offensive lines in football. You know,
- 15:49Speaker 5: Chubb was really rolling, so they're not that anymore. So
- 15:52Speaker 5: I think it's all of it. But Gabriel is really
- 15:55Speaker 5: limited throwing the ball down the field over ten air yards.
- 15:59Speaker 5: It's like thirty three thirty five percent completion rate on
- 16:03Speaker 5: deeper throws down the field.
- 16:05Speaker 4: He really struggles in that area.
- 16:07Speaker 5: If you make him push it down the field, if
- 16:10Speaker 5: you get him behind the chains, if you put him
- 16:12Speaker 5: behind on the scoreboard.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'm not just saying it because he's lefty, but it
- 16:16Speaker 2: reminds me a lot of Tua, Like I think there's
- 16:18Speaker 2: a lot of timing throws. He can be very accurate,
- 16:22Speaker 2: but Ivan, yeah, just said, yes, he'll move around, but
- 16:27Speaker 2: when he's small, when you ask him to get to
- 16:29Speaker 2: push the ball downfield, he has a hard time.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I don't think slippery.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I wouldn't say like super fast, but he's very slippery,
- 16:36Speaker 5: Like he can get out of the pocket a little bit.
- 16:39Speaker 5: But and they do run him on some like zone
- 16:40Speaker 5: read type stuff too, and incorporate him a little bit
- 16:43Speaker 5: in the boot the game and you know, run game
- 16:45Speaker 5: type stuff. But he's just see like I don't even
- 16:49Speaker 5: know if I would give him to a better player.
- 16:52Speaker 2: No, no, no, this is a rookie just starting. Like I'm
- 16:56Speaker 2: just saying the style. I think he throws a lot
- 16:58Speaker 2: of anticipation, throws with accuracy and windows. He doesn't have
- 17:02Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill and Jalen Wattle making big plays for him either.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I just don't think he can get the ball downfield.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I don't think he has the arm strength to do it.
- 17:09Speaker 2: And I don't think too it does either.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the spread currently?
- 17:13Speaker 5: I think there were seven something like, I don't know,
- 17:16Speaker 5: I think it was seven and a half.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I keep an eye on the Joku today on
- 17:23Speaker 7: the injury report to see what his status is. Like he's,
- 17:26Speaker 7: you know, I think a matchup problem. He's just a
- 17:28Speaker 7: big athletic guy.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And yeah, I.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Just I'd also just say I really liked Isaiah Bond, Like,
- 17:35Speaker 7: I just think he's explosive, kind of circled him before.
- 17:38Speaker 7: He had some off the Fiel issues in the draft
- 17:39Speaker 7: that dropped dropped him out of that. But him and
- 17:42Speaker 7: Judy breaking a tackle making a big play, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 7: those kind of things. Do you want to avoid those
- 17:48Speaker 7: in turnovers? Just don't allow signs of life, don't let
- 17:52Speaker 7: the complexion of the game change. We saw it last
- 17:54Speaker 7: week once the Patriots got a lead, it was kind
- 17:56Speaker 7: of over for that Tennessee offense. I think a similar
- 17:59Speaker 7: thing would happen this week, especially at home. Fans are
- 18:02Speaker 7: going to be jacked up. I mean, this team is
- 18:03Speaker 7: coming back on a roll. People are gonna want to
- 18:06Speaker 7: be here to see Drake May. I think that they
- 18:08Speaker 7: can capitalize on that energy right out of the gate.
- 18:11Speaker 7: Start fast on both sides of the ball, be really
- 18:13Speaker 7: good formula.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I would really try to push the ball down the
- 18:16Speaker 5: field offensively early, like if you can draw up, you know,
- 18:20Speaker 5: maybe put it, leave the tight ends in go seven
- 18:23Speaker 5: man protect, move the pocket, get them out, and throw
- 18:26Speaker 5: one of those bombs to you know, Booty or Douglas
- 18:29Speaker 5: or something like that, and just get points up on
- 18:32Speaker 5: the board as quickly as you can, because as soon
- 18:35Speaker 5: as you get this Browns team off schedule offensively, they're
- 18:38Speaker 5: going to be in trouble.
- 18:39Speaker 1: If you u when the toss, you defer, get their
- 18:42Speaker 1: offense on. I would, yeah, get a major position on
- 18:45Speaker 1: the field.
- 18:46Speaker 7: And just let the let the crazy fans who are
- 18:48Speaker 7: going to be amped for this game, you know, make
- 18:51Speaker 7: a lot of noise, make it tough on them right
- 18:53Speaker 7: out of the gate, try to get that immediate advantage
- 18:56Speaker 7: by forcing a punt. I think it'd be a great way,
- 18:58Speaker 7: great way to start. I just the Patrios to re
- 19:00Speaker 7: establish that every game, yes, every game weather.
- 19:04Speaker 4: It's gonna be a little chilly.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, by the way, is Patriots by seven, but
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'd say this is ten.
- 19:11Speaker 7: This is a good game to continue that, you know,
- 19:14Speaker 7: step for the Patriots of research your dominance at home.
- 19:18Speaker 7: You know, sorry, I was getting on a fund for
- 19:20Speaker 7: riffing there, No, no, just you know this is you
- 19:25Speaker 7: know they've been great on the road, but that's you
- 19:27Speaker 7: got to beat teams like this at home. Like this
- 19:29Speaker 7: has to be the no brainer games where this is
- 19:32Speaker 7: an overmatched team, you're streaking, you're playing well, don't regress
- 19:35Speaker 7: at home. Establish this place as a play place that's
- 19:39Speaker 7: hard to play and a place that you want to
- 19:41Speaker 7: play in the playoffs, and make it hard to play.
- 19:42Speaker 5: I think this game and I again, I said this
- 19:45Speaker 5: last week about the Titans, and I'm not trying to
- 19:47Speaker 5: be disrespectful, like this is how good is Drake May
- 19:50Speaker 5: against the Browns defense? This is not like the Browns
- 19:53Speaker 5: are going to come in here and win this game
- 19:55Speaker 5: like this Brown's offense is not going to win this
- 19:57Speaker 5: game like they they don't have it horses to do it. Like, yeah,
- 20:01Speaker 5: Judkins can like break like a forty five yard run
- 20:03Speaker 5: like he did last week, but if you don't turn
- 20:05Speaker 5: the ball over five times, like that's all that they had.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Like you know, in the entire game, who's.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Got the better offense? The Titans or the Browns.
- 20:13Speaker 2: The thirtieth and I think they're thirty first and thirty second.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I think in all sincerity, right, that's how bad they are.
- 20:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I'd probably take the Browns just because
- 20:22Speaker 7: of Judy and then Djoku.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I take the Titans because I think cam Wood's better
- 20:26Speaker 2: than doing it.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I might be with Paul because of
- 20:29Speaker 4: cam Warden.
- 20:29Speaker 1: That's fair. Okay, what about the special teams matchup? I
- 20:33Speaker 1: hear the Browns is horrid.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Yes, they're they're bad on special teams.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I think, yep.
- 20:39Speaker 5: I think that that's another area like it just there's
- 20:42Speaker 5: just not a lot of areas in this matchup.
- 20:44Speaker 4: That favor Cleveland. There really isn't.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Friend Buba not getting the job done.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Freddie Well, I guess not giving it the personnel.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I would have no idea.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I leave that to you.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Yes, if there was like an angle, it might be
- 20:57Speaker 5: a little bit like more interesting. But like I I'm
- 21:00Speaker 5: sure Rabel also has a ton of institutional knowledge of
- 21:02Speaker 5: this Browns team. And you know, he's a very like
- 21:07Speaker 5: observant person, so I'm sure the fact that he was
- 21:10Speaker 5: in their building for an entire year last.
- 21:12Speaker 7: Year is especially their offensive line.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's going to be worth watching, you know
- 21:19Speaker 5: how much they they're kind of on it, and you
- 21:21Speaker 5: know we've talked a lot about their defensive struggles early,
- 21:24Speaker 5: Like does that help that he kind of knows this
- 21:26Speaker 5: Brown's offense inside and a good point and maybe they
- 21:29Speaker 5: can start a little faster on defense.
- 21:31Speaker 7: And when Stefansk you're going to scheme up on offense,
- 21:33Speaker 7: and are they you know, starting to anticipate and be
- 21:35Speaker 7: ready for those kind of things.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So going back to the special teams, I was thinking
- 21:39Speaker 1: on one of my drives up here, when I have
- 21:42Speaker 1: a lot of time to think aside from the actual
- 21:45Speaker 1: punter or kicker, if you if you have a bad
- 21:49Speaker 1: special teams unit on coverage, whether it's cut kicks or punts,
- 21:55Speaker 1: it's coaching. Yeah, because all these athletes that are on
- 21:58Speaker 1: these special teams you and it's they're about the same,
- 22:01Speaker 1: you know, they're all the guys that they're they're all
- 22:04Speaker 1: decent athletes that came out of college, and it's how
- 22:07Speaker 1: you coach them. It's how well they play and motivate them.
- 22:11Speaker 1: It's how well they play on coverage units. And if
- 22:13Speaker 1: you're bottomly, it's coaching. To me, it's not roster I agree.
- 22:18Speaker 7: I mean, it's not a place where there's a lot
- 22:20Speaker 7: of talent. I mean maybe you could say Matthew Slater
- 22:22Speaker 7: is a kind of player.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you get those outliers, little extra talent.
- 22:26Speaker 7: I mean, but I mean really it's you know, this
- 22:28Speaker 7: guy didn't stay in his lane and that's why they
- 22:30Speaker 7: but you know, he just wasn't fast enough. Like it's
- 22:33Speaker 7: it's really more of a team situation, I guess. But
- 22:37Speaker 7: would you say, what would you say about the punters
- 22:38Speaker 7: and the kickers, like how much how reflective.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Is so now now you get into an individual athlete.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think that has anything to do with coaching, right,
- 22:45Speaker 2: I never blame the special teams coach when a kicker
- 22:47Speaker 2: misses a field qual Yeah.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Right, unless it's just operational time after time, then you're
- 22:53Speaker 1: not coaching. They're not you know, I don't know the
- 22:56Speaker 1: reps aren't there or whatever. But if it's operationally bad
- 22:59Speaker 1: then and.
- 23:00Speaker 7: Yeah, what about punter though, Like would you put any
- 23:03Speaker 7: coaching on that?
- 23:03Speaker 1: No, like, because the.
- 23:04Speaker 7: Actual punting, it's that we needed that one out of
- 23:07Speaker 7: bounds or we needed this, you know, like there is
- 23:08Speaker 7: some like direction we need this yet, But I blame
- 23:10Speaker 7: but I.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Blame the punter for not punting it where we're supposed
- 23:13Speaker 2: to be.
- 23:14Speaker 1: He'll do it.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Assuming the coach told him what to do, right, and
- 23:18Speaker 2: I do. I go into it like you know when
- 23:21Speaker 2: they when it's fourth down, I assume that the coaches say,
- 23:24Speaker 2: we need to get the first down here, right, and
- 23:26Speaker 2: like that to me is the same, Like I'm being
- 23:29Speaker 2: dead serious. I know the specialists, I'm with Fred, but.
- 23:31Speaker 1: The punter can't say, well, you're not putting me in
- 23:33Speaker 1: a position to succeed. I'm sorry, I'm asking you to like, you.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Know, like when you're when you're lining up for a
- 23:40Speaker 2: plus fifty punts and you hit it into the stands.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I don't think it's because the coach didn't tell you.
- 23:44Speaker 2: You know, we were trying to pin him inside the tent,
- 23:46Speaker 2: right right, So when Marcus Jones returns one eighty eight
- 23:49Speaker 2: yards and then the next time you kick it right
- 23:51Speaker 2: down the middle of the field, right to Marcus Jones,
- 23:54Speaker 2: I have a hard time blaming the coach for that.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Now.
- 23:56Speaker 1: One thing I will say about special team stats is
- 23:58Speaker 1: when you look at the separation of like tenth to fifteenth,
- 24:02Speaker 1: it's it's sometimes it's not very large. You know, somebody
- 24:06Speaker 1: has to be the worst and somebody has to be
- 24:08Speaker 1: the best based on stats. But sometimes those stats, even
- 24:11Speaker 1: then could be deceiving. You know.
- 24:13Speaker 4: I think it's interesting. You know, this is we're on
- 24:16Speaker 4: the subject the.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Room, all right, the kick return.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Now he's driving home school.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Oh man, I should have stayed.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Well, he's he's waiting for rips that the kickoff return.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Has kind of been a dud. It's kind of been
- 24:34Speaker 4: a dud.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Like it's it's working in the sense that there are
- 24:37Speaker 5: definitely more returns. Uh, the returns are up across the board,
- 24:42Speaker 5: but the return average and the amount of big returns
- 24:46Speaker 5: that they're getting. There's only been one kickoff return for
- 24:49Speaker 5: a touchdown. It was Antonio Gibson and we too in
- 24:52Speaker 5: the entire NFL. So like it's really it's worked in
- 24:55Speaker 5: the sense that the balls in play.
- 24:57Speaker 2: They're physically returning more kicks by the numbers aren't with them.
- 25:02Speaker 2: They thought, this is what we talked about it. Like
- 25:04Speaker 2: I hate the term dynamics.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Who's the best DNA in the NFL right now?
- 25:08Speaker 5: The best return the kickoff returner Jamal Agnew probably, but
- 25:12Speaker 5: like he's I think that man, Tampa, I want to say, yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I just so my my hypothesis in asking that question
- 25:23Speaker 1: is we don't have any great athletes right now returning kicks.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Like, oh, I disagree with that, Okay, I mean there's
- 25:30Speaker 5: great athletes across the league.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Tell me, you know, but who is the uh you know,
- 25:36Speaker 1: the great of our era kick right now? Yeah?
- 25:40Speaker 5: I mean I suppose yeah, like Corridoro Patterson's you know,
- 25:43Speaker 5: not playing right now, so I guess like he's out.
- 25:45Speaker 5: But like I mean, I don't know, like you watched
- 25:48Speaker 5: for the league and you don't think that, Like the
- 25:49Speaker 5: skill position players have great talent.
- 25:51Speaker 1: They do a lot of teams that I don't know
- 25:53Speaker 1: the answer to this. I'm asking do a lot of
- 25:55Speaker 1: teams use their first string guys? Are they willing to
- 25:59Speaker 1: risk them on kicks? The injuries are in the league now.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Not necessarily, But I don't think that that's the main issue.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I think the main issue is that the play is
- 26:07Speaker 5: a lot harder to block than they anticipated. And Jeremy
- 26:11Speaker 5: Springer talked about this, I think it was last week
- 26:13Speaker 5: in his press conference that you know, it's like five
- 26:17Speaker 5: yards of separation between the guys that they're blocking in
- 26:21Speaker 5: the in the ball right, so like it happens so
- 26:24Speaker 5: quickly and there's a lot of space that you have
- 26:27Speaker 5: to be able to block the guy and he could
- 26:28Speaker 5: go around you either way. It's a really hard block
- 26:32Speaker 5: to execute.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Oh, I have a can I pick? It is something
- 26:38Speaker 2: with Okay, I just curious You're you're fixating on the
- 26:41Speaker 2: returners and they're not the the athletes who would you
- 26:44Speaker 2: consider in recent time, like say the last fifteen to
- 26:47Speaker 2: twenty years the best returners.
- 26:49Speaker 7: Oh, I don't know, is that to Kobe from the
- 26:52Speaker 7: Ravens that Jones, Kobe Jones.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Kobe Jones, he'd be he'd be an example, Devin Hester
- 26:59Speaker 2: not stop like it's so it's not like the teams
- 27:03Speaker 2: are not risking their frontline players now because of injury
- 27:06Speaker 2: and they used to do it before. It's the same
- 27:08Speaker 2: caliber of returners. I think there's some differences of opinion
- 27:11Speaker 2: in terms of body types for punts and kicks now
- 27:15Speaker 2: because of the stuff that Evan's talking about with.
- 27:16Speaker 1: The closed quarters.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Jeremy Springer has talked about liking a running back as
- 27:20Speaker 2: opposed to you know, a defensive back or a wide
- 27:23Speaker 2: receiver because of the size and the ability to break
- 27:26Speaker 2: tackles and whatnot. I have a revolutionary I don't think
- 27:28Speaker 2: there's a lot of frontline players that over the years
- 27:30Speaker 2: returning kick.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I have a revolutionary tactic that special teams could incorporate
- 27:35Speaker 1: to block these. So here's how it works, right, So
- 27:42Speaker 1: kick as happens, no one can move until the kicker
- 27:46Speaker 1: has the ball. Right at that moment, the return team
- 27:52Speaker 1: gets up from their stance or from the line, and
- 27:55Speaker 1: instead of engaging with the guy, they all act like vices.
- 27:59Speaker 1: So they go down the field with the player, they
- 28:02Speaker 1: mirror the player, and they don't engage until a certain point. So,
- 28:06Speaker 1: in other words, they're not holding their block a distance.
- 28:10Speaker 1: They're holding their block closer, and it gives the returner
- 28:14Speaker 1: more options, you know what I'm saying. So that the
- 28:18Speaker 1: blocking doesn't start until further down the field.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Well, there's just a lot.
- 28:22Speaker 1: It's a bunch of vice guys running with gunner.
- 28:25Speaker 4: You can't vice anymore.
- 28:26Speaker 1: So, like I'm not saying that you get together, but
- 28:29Speaker 1: like it's a bunch of guys mirroring guys down the
- 28:32Speaker 1: field and then at some point they turn and engage
- 28:35Speaker 1: and and the runner.
- 28:37Speaker 2: So treat it more like a punt.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Treat it more like a punt.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So you think punts have better return, but this is different.
- 28:42Speaker 1: This is different.
- 28:46Speaker 2: That would make it harder because you have ten guys
- 28:47Speaker 2: to deal with instead of two.
- 28:48Speaker 1: On punts, you can start running the moment it's punted.
- 28:52Speaker 2: That's why it would be harder on a kick with
- 28:54Speaker 2: ten guys down there instead of two. Now there's only
- 28:57Speaker 2: two guys that can that can go down there, just.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Like now does the new kickoff. I just think that
- 29:03Speaker 5: it's the coverage team and the return team, the blockers
- 29:09Speaker 5: in the like zone that they're set up in. Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 5: they're too close together, right, it's too hard to back
- 29:13Speaker 5: the block.
- 29:14Speaker 1: That's what that's my point.
- 29:15Speaker 5: And so now it's like literally like getting to like
- 29:17Speaker 5: the thirty is like good job. Like if you return
- 29:21Speaker 5: it to the thirty or further down, like that's considered
- 29:24Speaker 5: a successful return, Whereas I think the league thought that
- 29:26Speaker 5: there was gonna be big returns off of this.
- 29:29Speaker 6: Now.
- 29:29Speaker 5: The only other thing I would say is that the
- 29:31Speaker 5: rules don't really allow you to double team or vice
- 29:33Speaker 5: as you were talking about, like as much. There's like
- 29:36Speaker 5: all sorts of rules against it now because the player safety.
- 29:39Speaker 5: So like since you can't like form a wall like
- 29:42Speaker 5: they used to be able to that, you can't really
- 29:44Speaker 5: like do that anymore. So now it's literally just like
- 29:48Speaker 5: nine to one on ones right across the board, right,
- 29:52Speaker 5: and so it's just like the defense is actually you know,
- 29:54Speaker 5: the coverage team is the one that's actually building the wall,
- 29:57Speaker 5: and it's just there's not enough space. And so so
- 30:00Speaker 5: like now that these returns is just running into a
- 30:02Speaker 5: brick wall. And I don't think the play is that exciting,
- 30:05Speaker 5: Like it's in play, but it's just not that exciting.
- 30:08Speaker 5: Last thing on this like they don't really do anything fancy.
- 30:12Speaker 5: I think a lot of people thought that the returned units.
- 30:15Speaker 5: They would try reverses, they would try to throw back.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I did see it reverse the other night. I haven't
- 30:19Speaker 2: seen the throwback. Ye, someone did a reverse in one
- 30:22Speaker 2: of the games that I watched. It didn't work.
- 30:24Speaker 1: But even the reverses don't really work from that distance,
- 30:27Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Because like if you said,
- 30:29Speaker 1: if the coverage team is building a wall, they see
- 30:32Speaker 1: it all in front of them happening and you can react.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Yeah, So I thought that they would, that some of
- 30:37Speaker 5: these coordinators would maybe get a little bit more creative
- 30:41Speaker 5: with how they return it. But I think what's happened
- 30:43Speaker 5: is is that like the risk is not worth the
- 30:46Speaker 5: reward unless it's like a certain situation, because if there's
- 30:50Speaker 5: a ball security issue, if you put the ball on
- 30:51Speaker 5: the ground like that, that's worse than just getting to
- 30:54Speaker 5: the twenty five yard line and putting your offense on
- 30:56Speaker 5: the field. So I don't know, it just hasn't worked,
- 31:00Speaker 5: But I do like.
- 31:01Speaker 1: The fact that it's gotten the ball and play more.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Like there are more returns.
- 31:07Speaker 2: So you can't argue that, yeah, returns the way up.
- 31:10Speaker 2: The number of actual returns is up.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Yeah, So there's that opportunity of something to happen, so
- 31:15Speaker 1: at least it's it's worth watching, you know, like something
- 31:18Speaker 1: could happen.
- 31:19Speaker 4: I mean, I love it.
- 31:20Speaker 5: I think that like the fact that I have dissected
- 31:23Speaker 5: it as much as I have, I think tells you
- 31:24Speaker 5: that it's like a real play.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Now it's worked.
- 31:27Speaker 5: It's a play that you have to like factor into
- 31:30Speaker 5: things because now with like the dirty kicks too, like
- 31:33Speaker 5: you can really pin teams like you can you can
- 31:36Speaker 5: get teams down inside the twenty yard line and put
- 31:38Speaker 5: them on long fields. Like it's a lot of teams
- 31:41Speaker 5: are that are good at it have done really well
- 31:43Speaker 5: with that. So it's kind of like a strategy thing now, all.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Right, A five to five Pats five hundred special teams
- 31:49Speaker 1: talk about is the Hotline podcast at Patriots dot com.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Is the email address again, Mike Rabel coming up at
- 31:57Speaker 1: about twelve fifty five. We'll break at that point and
- 32:02Speaker 1: feed him live to you. So I want to get people, uh,
- 32:07Speaker 1: find out what their thoughts on the Cleveland Browns are,
- 32:09Speaker 1: if they have any. So let's open it up. We'll
- 32:12Speaker 1: start with old friend Christian in La. What's up Christian?
- 32:18Speaker 9: Good you guys. Well, before I get to my football stuff.
- 32:21Speaker 9: I'm gonna go straight at Paul. Paul, Captain cranky. Captain Cranky.
- 32:27Speaker 9: It seems like every time I call, I make my point,
- 32:30Speaker 9: you immediately disagree with the point, and then for the
- 32:33Speaker 9: rest of the show slowly agree with the point.
- 32:37Speaker 6: Wow.
- 32:38Speaker 9: Every single time.
- 32:39Speaker 6: Wow.
- 32:40Speaker 9: So let's see if today you do the same thing.
- 32:43Speaker 2: All right, let's let's hold on a second. What was
- 32:46Speaker 2: the What was the point that you made that I
- 32:47Speaker 2: disagreed with when you called most recently, and then I
- 32:51Speaker 2: eventually agreed with it.
- 32:53Speaker 9: I said that I felt like the team might just
- 32:56Speaker 9: be a paper tiger, like we play some teams that
- 32:58Speaker 9: aren't there great. Everyone's talking and I.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Woudn't possibly disagree with that more.
- 33:02Speaker 9: Getting there, Wait a minute, us getting there, and you said,
- 33:06Speaker 9: I disagree, ve Emily, I think this team is going
- 33:08Speaker 9: to be okay. If you got to the playoffs, would
- 33:10Speaker 9: we worry? And then the rest of the show all
- 33:13Speaker 9: you did was say, well, we got to talk about
- 33:15Speaker 9: the other story. We haven't really played anyone. You know,
- 33:17Speaker 9: this team, we haven't proven on those yet.
- 33:19Speaker 10: It's not the same thing.
- 33:21Speaker 2: It's not the same thing. You think that they're not
- 33:23Speaker 2: very good. I'm not saying anything I'm saying. If why
- 33:26Speaker 2: would you be upset at five and two? You were
- 33:28Speaker 2: upset that they were five and two because they don't
- 33:30Speaker 2: beat anybody. That's what I disagreed with. And you're worried
- 33:33Speaker 2: about losing the first game of the playoffs and losing
- 33:35Speaker 2: a draft pick, which you actually talked about on Sunday.
- 33:38Speaker 2: You're talking about getting the worst draft pick.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Who cares.
- 33:41Speaker 9: I wasn't upset about them winning. I wasn't upset about
- 33:44Speaker 9: them winning. What what I said was, I'm glad that
- 33:46Speaker 9: we want everything looks good.
- 33:48Speaker 2: My greatest fear, yes, is that And that's that's the
- 33:52Speaker 2: part I disagreed with. Why you're worrying about draft picks
- 33:55Speaker 2: instead of worrying about getting better every week, that's the
- 33:59Speaker 2: part I don't understand, and I disagree with that when
- 34:02Speaker 2: you said it, and I disagree with that. Now I
- 34:04Speaker 2: didn't change my view on that.
- 34:07Speaker 9: Well, what I said and what you said with the
- 34:10Speaker 9: same thing, the team might be a little bit of
- 34:12Speaker 9: a rated right now, Well.
- 34:13Speaker 2: That I didn't say that, so you're know we're not
- 34:16Speaker 2: saying the same thing.
- 34:17Speaker 9: You literally said. We got to go on the other
- 34:20Speaker 9: side and make sure we're talking about the team hasn't
- 34:22Speaker 9: really played an the one yet, and I'll schedule Basedaw,
- 34:25Speaker 9: that's that.
- 34:26Speaker 1: That's not the same thing as saying they're overrated.
- 34:31Speaker 9: Paper Tiger doesn't mean over rated. It means that we're good,
- 34:34Speaker 9: but we might not be as good as everyone thinks
- 34:35Speaker 9: we are.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Point the definition of thank you, Fred question, try today.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I'll give you credit, I'll give you you good effort.
- 34:46Speaker 1: I like it.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I actually said, he's worried that they're going to lose
- 34:50Speaker 2: the first playoff game and therefore get a better a
- 34:54Speaker 2: worse draft pick as a result than they should.
- 34:57Speaker 1: You there like the same.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I know, but a postgame show a postgame show, and
- 35:02Speaker 2: I just like I went on a rant. So it's
- 35:04Speaker 2: just like they're five and two. They won four games
- 35:06Speaker 2: each of the last two years. They're five and two,
- 35:09Speaker 2: and we're worried about not quite being as good as
- 35:12Speaker 2: our record. Maybe they're not, But like, I don't understand
- 35:15Speaker 2: why you worry about it. Why would that bother you
- 35:17Speaker 2: right now?
- 35:18Speaker 11: Uh?
- 35:19Speaker 2: Because I got news for you. You're just playing teams
- 35:22Speaker 2: like this the rest of the way. You get a
- 35:24Speaker 2: couple of you know, you got Buffalo again, you got Baltimore,
- 35:28Speaker 2: who I assume will be in a better spot when
- 35:30Speaker 2: they play them down the road that they are now. Okay,
- 35:34Speaker 2: there's not many teams that you won't be able to
- 35:36Speaker 2: compete with. I don't know why you would look at
- 35:38Speaker 2: the playoff pitcher in the AFC right now and say,
- 35:43Speaker 2: I don't know how we're gonna I don't know how
- 35:44Speaker 2: we're gonna be able to sack up against Indianapolis. I
- 35:47Speaker 2: don't know how we're going to end up playing if
- 35:49Speaker 2: we have to, if we have to play the Chargers,
- 35:51Speaker 2: with the Broncos, we got no shot, Like, I don't
- 35:54Speaker 2: know why you would spend time worrying about that right now.
- 35:57Speaker 2: That's the part I disagreed with. Instead of worrying about
- 36:00Speaker 2: draft picks for next year, worry about you know, can
- 36:04Speaker 2: Drake may continue to stack these games the way he
- 36:07Speaker 2: has the last month? Can he can he even be
- 36:09Speaker 2: better than this? A lot of people who analyze the
- 36:12Speaker 2: tape from the Tennessee game think he left some plays
- 36:14Speaker 2: on the field, like like Evan was talking about yesterday,
- 36:18Speaker 2: could he be even better than this? Why didn't you
- 36:21Speaker 2: spend time being excited about that instead of worried about
- 36:24Speaker 2: Chris draft In seventeenth in step job.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I don't know what your motivation was for the call,
- 36:28Speaker 1: but if it was to get onto Paul's skin, good job.
- 36:31Speaker 2: I think the one Patriots fans are just so insufferable
- 36:35Speaker 2: sometimes I think the one concerned.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Now he's but let's go.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Like last year, the Commanders like Jaden Daniels plays out
- 36:45Speaker 5: of his mind as a rookie and gets them to
- 36:47Speaker 5: the NFC Championship game. Now he's had some injuries this year,
- 36:51Speaker 5: they haven't like been as They really just haven't across
- 36:53Speaker 5: the board Ben as good and like, so my whole thing,
- 36:56Speaker 5: big picture is not like draft picks.
- 36:57Speaker 4: It's just like how do you keep it going right?
- 37:01Speaker 5: Like how do you how do you keep it going
- 37:03Speaker 5: even past this season? You know, if they continue on
- 37:06Speaker 5: this path, they go to the playoffs and like how.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Do we you know, to go back?
- 37:09Speaker 5: Like how do you avoid like the twenty twenty two
- 37:12Speaker 5: Mac Jones Patriots And he's much better than Mac. But
- 37:15Speaker 5: like that whole thing, you know, I think the Commanders
- 37:18Speaker 5: are coming back down to earth this year, and a
- 37:21Speaker 5: lot of that's because Daniels has been hurt, but like
- 37:23Speaker 5: some of it is because Daniels has been hurt. Some
- 37:25Speaker 5: of it's because maybe they overachieved.
- 37:28Speaker 2: For sure, probably would have been pissed if he was
- 37:30Speaker 2: a Washington fan because they went all away to the
- 37:31Speaker 2: NFC Championship game. It's the difference if you don't win
- 37:34Speaker 2: at all.
- 37:34Speaker 5: I just felt like when they were here for the
- 37:36Speaker 5: joint practice, and I know McLaurin didn't didn't practice, and
- 37:39Speaker 5: that's a big factor. When I looked at the two
- 37:41Speaker 5: teams on the field though, Like I didn't think the
- 37:43Speaker 5: talent gap was all that big between the Commanders and
- 37:46Speaker 5: the Patriots. And that was a team that was just
- 37:48Speaker 5: in the NFC Championship Game the year before.
- 37:51Speaker 2: It's an example of a team that got carried by
- 37:53Speaker 2: its quarterback.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Right, And I'm worried this team carried by its quarterback.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Well okay, but that's different about sustainability and getting better
- 38:02Speaker 2: and continuing like just this, Oh whoe is me? Like
- 38:05Speaker 2: we're not going to get a draft pick? Like I
- 38:08Speaker 2: guess basically, everybody is entitled to feel the way they feel. Okay,
- 38:13Speaker 2: I said that all the time, So I'm not attacking
- 38:15Speaker 2: Christian for feeling the way he feels. What I would
- 38:18Speaker 2: take exception to is that somehow he interpreted that after
- 38:22Speaker 2: the call like it was a shtick, Like I just
- 38:24Speaker 2: disagree with Christian when he calls, and then a half
- 38:27Speaker 2: hour later I was with him. I'm not with you.
- 38:29Speaker 2: I've never been with that that line of thought. I
- 38:31Speaker 2: will never be with Like when you're when you're a
- 38:34Speaker 2: fan of a team and they're winning games. Yes, you
- 38:36Speaker 2: recognize the flaws and the faults and you hope that
- 38:39Speaker 2: they improve on those, right, right, But I would rather
- 38:43Speaker 2: lose than go to the playoffs so I can get
- 38:45Speaker 2: a better draft pick.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I think a lot of fans have I've never said
- 38:48Speaker 1: that I had. I think a lot of fans have
- 38:49Speaker 1: this notion that if you have a low draft pick,
- 38:52Speaker 1: you can't improve, Like if you finish well and pick
- 38:56Speaker 1: low classes work out for him, right, that that's just
- 39:01Speaker 1: not true. If you have a good personnel department, you
- 39:04Speaker 1: can still get good guys at the bottom of the
- 39:06Speaker 1: first round, bottom of the second round, and you can
- 39:10Speaker 1: do well in free agency. And by the way, if
- 39:13Speaker 1: you're a better team, more free agents want to come
- 39:15Speaker 1: to you play with you.
- 39:16Speaker 4: So it's you can improve, you can, But.
- 39:20Speaker 5: Oh, you were with them a little bit Like if
- 39:23Speaker 5: I'm Washington, the analytics guys.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Raft that's right, draft picks.
- 39:30Speaker 5: It's twofold, though, like one like just looking at it realistically,
- 39:34Speaker 5: like Washington spend a bunch of money in last off season,
- 39:38Speaker 5: They're not going to go out and spend a bunch
- 39:40Speaker 5: more money. It's just not how ownership in any sport
- 39:42Speaker 5: works when you have an off season spending spree.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I agree, don't expect you don't expect to repeat what
- 39:48Speaker 2: the Patriots did this year in the off season correct
- 39:50Speaker 2: next year.
- 39:50Speaker 5: So you're not going to be big spenders in free agency.
- 39:54Speaker 5: And your roster wasn't as good as it looked. Your
- 39:57Speaker 5: quarterback had an unbelievable season, so like the commander has
- 40:01Speaker 5: had more holes on their roster than it looked because
- 40:04Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels was that good. So now if you're Washington.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it works for twenty years.
- 40:09Speaker 5: It was great to go to the NFC championship game.
- 40:12Speaker 5: I am sure you went to the NFC Championship game.
- 40:15Speaker 5: You got your doors blown off of you, and now
- 40:17Speaker 5: you're three and four of the following year because your
- 40:20Speaker 5: roster wasn't really all that good.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Well so well wait a minute, now, hold on, is
- 40:25Speaker 1: the roster worse than it was last year. No, okay,
- 40:29Speaker 1: so why there's another reason why the quarterbacks hurt. That's
- 40:32Speaker 1: why the record is what it is.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But Evans larger point is they weren't as good as
- 40:37Speaker 2: twelve and five within No I.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Know, but if you have a great quarterback, you can
- 40:40Speaker 1: overcome that. And while you're overcoming it with your quarterback,
- 40:43Speaker 1: you can get incrementally better every year. But I would
- 40:47Speaker 1: argue doesn't mean you have to have a top five
- 40:49Speaker 1: pick every year.
- 40:50Speaker 4: I'm not saying top five.
- 40:51Speaker 5: I'm just I would argue that Jaden Daniels could have
- 40:55Speaker 5: had a great year as a rookie and they could
- 40:57Speaker 5: have had like the eighteenth pick in the first first
- 41:00Speaker 5: round of the draft instead of picking at the bottom
- 41:02Speaker 5: of the first round of the draft.
- 41:03Speaker 1: He'd have still been hurt this year and they would
- 41:05Speaker 1: have problems.
- 41:06Speaker 5: I guarantee you their GM would have said it wouldn't
- 41:09Speaker 5: have been the worst thing in the world.
- 41:11Speaker 1: The quarterback because he wants to have draft pick. But
- 41:15Speaker 1: Daniel going to be good.
- 41:17Speaker 4: I don't care who we're talking about injuries like you can't.
- 41:20Speaker 1: We are because that's the that's the current state of
- 41:23Speaker 1: that team.
- 41:24Speaker 5: I don't think that they would be I don't think
- 41:25Speaker 5: that's the only reason. I don't think that's the only reason.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I don't think Daniels has played as well when he's
- 41:29Speaker 2: been healthy. But I would also say maybe.
- 41:32Speaker 1: He's not that good.
- 41:34Speaker 5: We have to do that because if he's like elevating
- 41:37Speaker 5: the he's elevated.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Think but I thought that last year when I got
- 41:41Speaker 2: when I got laughed at you.
- 41:42Speaker 5: He's elevating the roster last year to an insane level.
- 41:45Speaker 5: You can't expect even the great quarterbacks to do that
- 41:48Speaker 5: every single year. So like, at some point you can't,
- 41:53Speaker 5: I'm sorry, quarterbacks, yes you can.
- 41:55Speaker 2: You can't, though maybe Mahomes can. But that's a hard
- 41:57Speaker 2: way to do it. Brady did it for years that
- 42:00Speaker 2: there's a select group that.
- 42:01Speaker 1: You are great.
- 42:03Speaker 2: I don't know if Drake quarters are going to be
- 42:05Speaker 2: those guys yet. I mean they've only played two seasons,
- 42:08Speaker 2: not even two seasons yet. I just think that there's
- 42:11Speaker 2: I also think there's a huge thing in Washington like
- 42:14Speaker 2: a year ahead, like like it's a slow it's a
- 42:17Speaker 2: slower build than that. So it's why it's very common
- 42:19Speaker 2: in sports to take a step to two steps forward
- 42:22Speaker 2: and one step back. It's a common thing in all sports. Yeah,
- 42:25Speaker 2: that it happens all the time. Exactly why you haven't
- 42:28Speaker 2: said because maybe you won more games than you probably
- 42:31Speaker 2: should have.
- 42:31Speaker 1: What do we say in particularly, what did we say
- 42:33Speaker 1: before the season even started about the commander?
- 42:35Speaker 2: We thought that they would take a step back because
- 42:37Speaker 2: but my biggest reason was was two fold. Number one
- 42:40Speaker 2: ever mentioned it, but it kind of glossed over. They
- 42:43Speaker 2: were a mess in the summer with Terry McLaurin. That
- 42:45Speaker 2: whole situation was not an ideal way to go about
- 42:47Speaker 2: business heading into a season. That was a completely avoidable
- 42:51Speaker 2: mistake that they had. And oh, by the way, McLaurin
- 42:54Speaker 2: has been hurt, which I don't think is a coincidence.
- 42:57Speaker 2: When you don't do anything all summer, you end up
- 42:59Speaker 2: getting hurt early in the season, and now you got
- 43:02Speaker 2: your quarterback and your best offensive player hurt. But the
- 43:05Speaker 2: other thing is all of those games you win on
- 43:07Speaker 2: the last play of the game, that's there's a regression
- 43:10Speaker 2: to the mean. That's inevitable. Fools when you do that.
- 43:14Speaker 2: That's five games they had five touchdowns in the last
- 43:17Speaker 2: thirty seconds, five go ahead touchdowns. Do you know how
- 43:20Speaker 2: hard that is? I'll tell you it's never happened before.
- 43:22Speaker 2: That's how hard it is, Like there's no way that
- 43:25Speaker 2: you can possibly replicate that. That's why I thought they
- 43:28Speaker 2: would take a step back.
- 43:29Speaker 5: It was fool's gold, and so like it's I just
- 43:33Speaker 5: feel like maybe there's something to be said for like
- 43:36Speaker 5: taking smaller, incremental steps. And I'm not telling the Patriots
- 43:40Speaker 5: to go purposely out go out and lose games to
- 43:42Speaker 5: do that, but I'm just saying.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Like the winning is good.
- 43:45Speaker 5: The period the Commanders got they would have won any ways, though,
- 43:49Speaker 5: Like they still would have won to an acceptable level,
- 43:51Speaker 5: but the way that they did it ended up actually
- 43:54Speaker 5: kind of hurting them in the long n Yeah.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I mean you could make that argument. I wouldn't.
- 43:57Speaker 2: I think that they the benefit that they get from
- 43:59Speaker 2: going the NFC championship vastly outweighs being ten spots later
- 44:03Speaker 2: in the draft. In my view, I'm with it, Fred
- 44:05Speaker 2: on that one hundred percent. I understand what your point is.
- 44:07Speaker 4: I just don't if you're not going to spend the
- 44:09Speaker 4: money in I'm not where's the talent come?
- 44:11Speaker 2: But the draft? Why can't you draft? Just like why
- 44:14Speaker 2: did Belichick do it all the time?
- 44:15Speaker 4: Belichick didn't do it all the time.
- 44:17Speaker 12: I can.
- 44:18Speaker 2: I can show you from two thousand and one to
- 44:19Speaker 2: twenty twelve when he did it all the time.
- 44:22Speaker 1: What about the Steelers parentally a winning team, yet they
- 44:25Speaker 1: were picking thirty seconds all the time?
- 44:27Speaker 4: Have not all the time?
- 44:28Speaker 1: I mean Logan Magas thirty two.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Richard Seymour not thirty two. Hey, that's the very first game.
- 44:33Speaker 2: But like that, once they got good, I said, he
- 44:36Speaker 2: continued to draft at a high level. You're getting like
- 44:39Speaker 2: Dan Copens and the Santi Samuels in the middle rounds. Yes,
- 44:42Speaker 2: it's really Eugene Wilson. You know that they had a
- 44:45Speaker 2: lot of good players that they picked, not with top
- 44:48Speaker 2: draft picks.
- 44:48Speaker 4: That's really hard to do.
- 44:50Speaker 2: But he did it for twelve years.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Bill did it good. He did.
- 44:53Speaker 4: That's why he's going to the Hall of Fame.
- 44:54Speaker 1: So like, let's just.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Not give these guys and out and say, well, you know,
- 44:57Speaker 2: I would liked to have drafted, but instead of picking eighteenth,
- 44:59Speaker 2: I have to pick twenty.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Not giving them it out.
- 45:01Speaker 5: You just are acting like it's so easy to go
- 45:03Speaker 5: find Pro Bowl players in the third and fourth round
- 45:05Speaker 5: of the draft when it's not. Like it's not that
- 45:08Speaker 5: it's just just good, okayt Samuel.
- 45:10Speaker 2: It's a pro bowler like Eugene Wilson, Dan Copen, just okay.
- 45:16Speaker 4: But it's just not that easy. It's not that easy.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Well, I think this is all a result of Christian's call.
- 45:21Speaker 1: So good job Christian.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, in retrospect, i'll give Christian, you know, no,
- 45:26Speaker 2: in all serious I'll give him not because he spurret
- 45:28Speaker 2: them well and you have Evan on your side. I
- 45:30Speaker 2: just I mean, he doesn't want to whom to show.
- 45:35Speaker 4: The way to top five pick.
- 45:36Speaker 5: It's just like there's this happy media here. Look at
- 45:39Speaker 5: the Detroit Lions, like the Lions took stepping stones.
- 45:42Speaker 4: They're bad. In Dan Campbell's first year then they were medio.
- 45:45Speaker 1: And you're saying if that first year, you know, lightning
- 45:48Speaker 1: struck and they made it to the NFC Championship, they
- 45:51Speaker 1: wouldn't have been able.
- 45:51Speaker 4: To because they wouldn't have Jamiir Gibbs.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Forget the first Jack Campbell, they wouldn't have Brian Branch,
- 45:56Speaker 5: they wouldn't have Sam Laporta, like, they wouldn't have all
- 45:59Speaker 5: these pays.
- 46:00Speaker 2: I don't know what else could I really don't know
- 46:02Speaker 2: why they wouldn't have had all of those players. But anyway,
- 46:05Speaker 2: they wouldn't have had the first year if they were
- 46:08Speaker 2: a three win team. So we're not talking about the
- 46:09Speaker 2: first year. We're talking about the second year. Okay, the
- 46:12Speaker 2: second year they went nine to eight.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Yep.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Could they have easily gone ten and seven, made the
- 46:18Speaker 2: playoffs and made a run just like the Commanders did. Yeah,
- 46:24Speaker 2: that could have happened, and that would have been a
- 46:26Speaker 2: bad thing.
- 46:27Speaker 5: I'm not saying it would have been a bad thing.
- 46:28Speaker 5: I'm just saying that in retrospect, it ended up working
- 46:31Speaker 5: out for them in terms of sustainability a little bit better. Like,
- 46:34Speaker 5: that's how you get Gibbs, that's how you get Campbell,
- 46:37Speaker 5: That's how you get those guys in there.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Like if you don't, but if you don't it is
- 46:40Speaker 2: what I'm saying is you you're making it out to
- 46:43Speaker 2: be a zero sum game, Like in order to get
- 46:46Speaker 2: Gibbs is not a great example because he was a
- 46:48Speaker 2: was he like twelve? Yeah, so maybe you don't get Gibbs,
- 46:53Speaker 2: but you can get Sam Laporta, and you can get
- 46:56Speaker 2: Jack Campbell, and you can get some of the other
- 46:58Speaker 2: guys that are centerpieces of their team as opposed to
- 47:02Speaker 2: Jalen Polk, like, you don't have to, but you have
- 47:06Speaker 2: to hit the pick. But you don't have to have
- 47:09Speaker 2: a high pick to hit the pick. You have to
- 47:11Speaker 2: hit the pick when you make it. Whatever it is.
- 47:12Speaker 2: You got to get good players. They used to be
- 47:15Speaker 2: able to do that. They haven't been able to do
- 47:17Speaker 2: it more recently. I agree with you, that's the only
- 47:19Speaker 2: way to build a championship roster because you can't just
- 47:23Speaker 2: do it in free agency every year, no one, No
- 47:25Speaker 2: one does that.
- 47:26Speaker 1: You can't.
- 47:27Speaker 2: I agree with Evans's point. I just disagree that if
- 47:30Speaker 2: they had won another game or two, we'll forget Sam Laporta.
- 47:33Speaker 1: No, like you could still draft good.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Player Mayor Gibbs, who's like jam Gibbs back in the NFL.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Jamiro Gibbs. They got because they had the two picks, right,
- 47:40Speaker 2: they had the.
- 47:40Speaker 5: Two picks, but they used they had extra draft, they
- 47:43Speaker 5: had extra capital, and they made a move. They moved
- 47:46Speaker 5: up slightly though it was like right, but in the
- 47:48Speaker 5: middle you can do that so like twelve eleven.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's not like he was, you know,
- 47:52Speaker 2: like Jamar Chase.
- 47:53Speaker 7: Well that's the Evans dream scenario, right, like that, Like
- 47:55Speaker 7: you know you're like, well, ye.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Kind of.
- 47:59Speaker 5: I don't need to go up that I know, and
- 48:00Speaker 5: I'm enjoying that they're winning games and all that good stuff.
- 48:03Speaker 5: But I just I don't know, like I understand both
- 48:07Speaker 5: sides of it.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I mean, you know what.
- 48:12Speaker 8: Talent.
- 48:13Speaker 2: But I'm going to say it again. I mean, this
- 48:14Speaker 2: is what Christian was talking about. They did it. I
- 48:17Speaker 2: guess I know, Christian, I'm being dead serious here. I
- 48:19Speaker 2: think I might I'll step back. I maybe I didn't
- 48:22Speaker 2: look at it the way.
- 48:22Speaker 5: Wait, you should let these two draft because if you're
- 48:25Speaker 5: drafting thirtieth in the first round, they'd find the guys.
- 48:27Speaker 2: I didn't say I would.
- 48:28Speaker 5: It's not my job, okay, but that's not like you
- 48:31Speaker 5: look at any of the teams across the board.
- 48:33Speaker 4: Who does it consistently?
- 48:34Speaker 5: Bill did it consistently and built a dynasty that is
- 48:37Speaker 5: the greatest dynasty in the history of sports.
- 48:40Speaker 2: So that's the that's Baltimore has done it pretty consistently.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I think Pittsburgh has done it well. I mean, I'm
- 48:45Speaker 2: not telling you every pick at the home run.
- 48:46Speaker 4: It's in the middle of the round. Every year they're
- 48:48Speaker 4: nine and eight.
- 48:49Speaker 2: They're a playoff team. Every year, So they picking in
- 48:51Speaker 2: the bottom twelveeenth, bottom fourteen. Now because they expanded the playoffs,
- 48:55Speaker 2: they're picking in the bottom fourteen somewhere, So they're picking
- 48:57Speaker 2: the second half of the round. Like, you don't have
- 49:00Speaker 2: that's what we're talking about.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Nine and eight.
- 49:03Speaker 2: You said that was the biggest difference for the Detroit
- 49:05Speaker 2: or that's what I mean. Ninety eight doesn't get you
- 49:07Speaker 2: in the.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Top anders who picked what twenty eighth, twenty ninth in
- 49:10Speaker 5: the first round because they went to the NFC championship.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Game because they made a run once they got in
- 49:14Speaker 1: the play Well, they were twelve and five.
- 49:16Speaker 2: That's a good record. That's why they picked late when
- 49:18Speaker 2: they did. But I mean, we're advocating going from twenty
- 49:21Speaker 2: eight to eighteen. That's the difference. Again, I just don't
- 49:23Speaker 2: believe that that's the difference between getting Sam Laporta and
- 49:26Speaker 2: not not Sam Laporta, but getting Jet Campbell.
- 49:30Speaker 5: Like all these guys that are picked in the top
- 49:31Speaker 5: twenty every year, Like there's a big discrepancy between the
- 49:34Speaker 5: guys that are picked inside the top twenty and outside
- 49:36Speaker 5: the top twenty.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Like it's it's the how come the Jets suck bad
- 49:40Speaker 1: draft of it. Okay, they picked low every year and
- 49:44Speaker 1: they draft poorly, and a lot of teams we can
- 49:46Speaker 1: use that as an example for any team. I don't know,
- 49:49Speaker 1: it's how you draft. It's not where you draft.
- 49:52Speaker 5: Fred you can't just draft at the bottom of the
- 49:54Speaker 5: first round and expect to find the pillars of your
- 49:57Speaker 5: organization down there. Like that's not like, that's not how
- 50:01Speaker 5: going to happen. Like I look at this stuff every
- 50:03Speaker 5: single year, like for six months. You're not going to
- 50:06Speaker 5: just find you know, Penny School at thirty two overall, Like,
- 50:10Speaker 5: that's not going to happen.
- 50:11Speaker 7: No, and the Patriots turnaround has been largely predicated.
- 50:14Speaker 4: On drafting Christian Gonzalez, Will Campbell.
- 50:17Speaker 1: That's where the talent has finally.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Christian Gonzalez is one of those guys in the middle
- 50:21Speaker 2: of the round that's you can get, not twenty ninth, seventeenth.
- 50:25Speaker 2: I'll leave you on that, all right, we haven't. You
- 50:29Speaker 2: just did a Belichick and you're just leaving more than one.
- 50:35Speaker 8: He's gonna walk to the press coverage just mumbling to himself,
- 50:43Speaker 8: what service I'm moderate.
- 50:47Speaker 4: That he's really upset.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I just really I didn't want to chime in and
- 50:52Speaker 1: break up the flow. I know, I want to let
- 50:53Speaker 1: the flow.
- 50:54Speaker 7: You guys were I mean, he was fine, But I
- 50:55Speaker 7: mean also the question I have is is their institutional
- 50:58Speaker 7: value from going to an AFC.
- 51:00Speaker 1: That's what I said, from a conference championship.
- 51:03Speaker 2: You know how from that experience, you're going.
- 51:06Speaker 7: To lose draft You're going to you know, lose draft status.
- 51:09Speaker 7: But you know, what is the organization view as And
- 51:11Speaker 7: I'm sure that there's a bottom line component financially of
- 51:14Speaker 7: making aid of the conference championship game too.
- 51:16Speaker 1: But no, that was great stuff.
- 51:18Speaker 6: You know.
- 51:19Speaker 2: No, and I know that it's going to sound like
- 51:21Speaker 2: it sounded like it's disingenuous. This is what the point
- 51:24Speaker 2: that Christian was making that I disagreed with, and obviously
- 51:26Speaker 2: Evan disagrees with it too. My only thing with what
- 51:30Speaker 2: Christian was saying that I took exception to today's call
- 51:33Speaker 2: is that he claims somehow that I changed my view
- 51:36Speaker 2: a half hour later. I don't. I still you don't
- 51:38Speaker 2: maintain I want to win. I think winning is good
- 51:42Speaker 2: and I think losing is bad. I don't think that's
- 51:44Speaker 2: that controversial of a take.
- 51:45Speaker 7: Yeah, there were two things though, I was I was
- 51:47Speaker 7: thinking about. Is that We talk all the times about
- 51:50Speaker 7: the free agency, the big free agent class, and then
- 51:51Speaker 7: there's usually a regression to the mean the next year,
- 51:54Speaker 7: regardless of who it.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Was, because you're not going to go back into that
- 51:57Speaker 2: market and invest the same way nobody does.
- 52:00Speaker 7: But even the guys that you maintain, it's like asking
- 52:02Speaker 7: Bobby Wagner at whatever he is, thirty five to can
- 52:05Speaker 7: you know, continue to play at a high level. And
- 52:08Speaker 7: the other thing is like, and that'm it's just Jayden
- 52:10Speaker 7: Daniels is more experienced, Like I think there's a big
- 52:13Speaker 7: difference between you know him year one, year two than
- 52:16Speaker 7: Drake May where you feel like this is the first
- 52:18Speaker 7: time Drake has had an offensive coordinator to you know,
- 52:21Speaker 7: or I'm sorry that he's getting into a system that
- 52:23Speaker 7: he's used to and you know, hopefully can have some
- 52:25Speaker 7: continuity between this year next year, which was the biggest
- 52:28Speaker 7: problem in twenty two.
- 52:29Speaker 1: When you rip that from Matt and you.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Can nitpick a little bit, you know, with Washington and
- 52:33Speaker 2: say like, well did they do did they make the
- 52:35Speaker 2: right personnel moves around their young quarterback to get better?
- 52:39Speaker 2: And maybe I don't know enough about their roster building
- 52:42Speaker 2: from last year to this year to honestly be able.
- 52:45Speaker 1: To get the wise Jonathan Jones. But like I'm talking
- 52:47Speaker 1: about the draft, I don't know who they drafted.
- 52:49Speaker 2: To be honest with you, I don't know their draft class,
- 52:51Speaker 2: you know, off the top of my head, I would
- 52:53Speaker 2: say another similar kind of organization would be Houston. Houston
- 52:58Speaker 2: got the rookie quarterback and CEJ Strout, who I think
- 53:00Speaker 2: is terrific, and I still think he's terrific. Did they
- 53:04Speaker 2: do enough around him? You know, they went year two,
- 53:09Speaker 2: they won the division again, but he took a step back.
- 53:12Speaker 2: They weren't as good offensively because the offensive line wasn't good.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Then they went out and they really didn't go hogtail
- 53:19Speaker 2: and invest in the offensive line. They kind of waited.
- 53:21Speaker 2: They got a kid who looks okay but hasn't been
- 53:25Speaker 2: a world beater. I think Ursery, right, yea, arin't they
- 53:29Speaker 2: draft him? Did I get that right?
- 53:31Speaker 13: Now?
- 53:31Speaker 1: You get the name right?
- 53:32Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure they get so. Again, I don't know
- 53:34Speaker 2: enough about each step of the team building process that
- 53:38Speaker 2: those teams made, but that to me would be the
- 53:40Speaker 2: fear I would worry about moving forward. Will they do
- 53:45Speaker 2: enough with the young quarterback to take the next steps
- 53:48Speaker 2: so you go from being a playoff team to a
- 53:52Speaker 2: title contender. And I agree with Christian, I don't think
- 53:54Speaker 2: this is a title contending roster right now. But that
- 53:57Speaker 2: doesn't mean that you can't win games. Yeah, I think
- 53:59Speaker 2: Houston's a good example two of that.
- 54:00Speaker 7: Just because you know a team like the Patriots, Drake
- 54:02Speaker 7: May have in a great season right now, it doesn't
- 54:04Speaker 7: mean the trajectory is like this year you make to
- 54:06Speaker 7: the first round of the playoffs. Next year you're going
- 54:08Speaker 7: to be in the divisional run, and then after that
- 54:10Speaker 7: you're like, you know, it's not that kind of and
- 54:11Speaker 7: Houston's a great example of that, Like it's it's hard
- 54:14Speaker 7: to keep it all together on that street.
- 54:16Speaker 2: The last thing Fred on this isil piggybacking on Mike's point.
- 54:22Speaker 2: There's nothing guaranteed, Like I don't know what it's going
- 54:26Speaker 2: to look like next year for the Patriots. I don't
- 54:28Speaker 2: know what Drake May is going to look like next year.
- 54:30Speaker 2: I know right now he's played at an exceptionally high level.
- 54:33Speaker 2: So I want that to continue, and I want them
- 54:35Speaker 2: to continue winning games, and I want them to make
- 54:37Speaker 2: a run. And if they do, that's great. If they don't,
- 54:40Speaker 2: I'll hope that it.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Wasn't fool's goal, right, yeah, right, right.
- 54:44Speaker 2: And I'll hope that they can get better, but I
- 54:46Speaker 2: don't know what it's not guaranteed next year.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Let's let's hit the phones. Going to do it quickly
- 54:50Speaker 1: because we might have to cut you off for variable.
- 54:54Speaker 1: But first we'll start with HERM in d C. What's up? Herm?
- 55:00Speaker 14: What's going on?
- 55:01Speaker 3: Guys?
- 55:01Speaker 6: How you doing good?
- 55:02Speaker 2: Going great?
- 55:05Speaker 1: You gotta be quick most.
- 55:07Speaker 14: An observation, yeah, question. So the discourse around the defense, right,
- 55:13Speaker 14: I mean we have to I believe the top five
- 55:15Speaker 14: scoring defense in the entire NFL, and I believe Mike
- 55:19Speaker 14: referenced yesterday how Spencer Ratler and can work crops this up.
- 55:23Speaker 14: I mean there's a little the context was there, right,
- 55:25Speaker 14: Spencer Ratler was the number one high school quarterback coming
- 55:28Speaker 14: out and it went to OU and Kim Ward. It's
- 55:31Speaker 14: the number one pick in the NFL draft. So yes,
- 55:33Speaker 14: obviously they will complete some passes. But I just when
- 55:36Speaker 14: everybody like, take a little chill pill, I think the
- 55:39Speaker 14: defense is fine. Yes, that idea that we're giving up
- 55:42Speaker 14: scoring drafts to open up the last few games, but ultimately, yep,
- 55:47Speaker 14: if you just want up and down the field. All
- 55:50Speaker 14: you do is is accomplished, but nothing in terms of
- 55:53Speaker 14: like cardio, right, as long as you keep the teams
- 55:57Speaker 14: out of the end zone and you control to run.
- 55:59Speaker 14: I think, yeah.
- 56:01Speaker 1: But I hear what you're saying, and the bottom line
- 56:04Speaker 1: is how many points are you giving up? And they're doing.
- 56:06Speaker 2: Things that's I think that's full score and they're the points.
- 56:11Speaker 1: But you know the thing is that overall those offenses
- 56:16Speaker 1: don't score a lot of points, you know, and the
- 56:19Speaker 1: one that we're playing this week doesn't score a lot
- 56:21Speaker 1: of points. So if the Patriots don't allow them to
- 56:24Speaker 1: score a lot of points, well that's kind of what
- 56:27Speaker 1: you're supposed to do. So the big I think it'll
- 56:30Speaker 1: be a big test in two weeks when they play Atlanta.
- 56:33Speaker 1: I think Atlanta can put some points up sometimes, you know.
- 56:36Speaker 1: I think Tampa Bay points out.
- 56:39Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how they only score a
- 56:41Speaker 2: ten against San Francisco with all those guys out, I.
- 56:44Speaker 1: Think Tampa Bay can put So there's some tests. I
- 56:47Speaker 1: think this week is a great test for the Patriots offense.
- 56:50Speaker 1: I think there's some weeks coming up that will be
- 56:52Speaker 1: good better tests for the defense. Than we've had so far,
- 56:56Speaker 1: So we'll see. I mean, this is all to be
- 56:58Speaker 1: seen with this team.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Now.
- 56:59Speaker 7: There's this is it's a fascinating disparity in that they
- 57:02Speaker 7: are a top ten team in points and yards and
- 57:04Speaker 7: that stuff, but dvway they're twenty eighth, which is adjusted
- 57:07Speaker 7: to opponents. So you know, you our job now is
- 57:10Speaker 7: this could be a good team. What are the flaws?
- 57:12Speaker 7: Is the defense really good enough? You know, those are
- 57:14Speaker 7: the things that we're trying to analyze. And you can't
- 57:15Speaker 7: ignore that number dv eight twenty eighth. That's well, that's
- 57:18Speaker 7: that's a warning side. What is the Browns defense DVOA eleventh?
- 57:23Speaker 1: Oh no, sorry, they're in the top ten. I think
- 57:25Speaker 1: the fifth. Oh I gotta look no.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Better than I thought.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Sam's in Easton what's up? Sam?
- 57:32Speaker 15: Hey, guys, pivoting off what you were just talking about.
- 57:35Speaker 15: I want to talk about the Monday night game with
- 57:38Speaker 15: Detroit showed on defense. I feel like they kind of
- 57:41Speaker 15: provide a little bit of a blueprint, you know, with
- 57:44Speaker 15: with pressure on Mayfield, I think he was particularly accurate.
- 57:48Speaker 15: I think he's pretty overrated as a passer in general.
- 57:51Speaker 15: But curious what you guys saw and what you thought
- 57:54Speaker 15: about depleted secondary, just shutting them down. I think we
- 57:56Speaker 15: should win that game with even without Mike Evans. I
- 57:58Speaker 15: think for the better team.
- 58:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they certainly got to Mayfield and gave him trouble.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Thanks Sam, You know so.
- 58:05Speaker 2: I don't think you're the better team in that. I'm
- 58:07Speaker 2: not telling you.
- 58:08Speaker 1: Catch him in is. We don't have a Hutchinson, right,
- 58:10Speaker 1: you know that's Baker. Mayfield was dreadfully bad in that game. Yeah,
- 58:15Speaker 1: he was off.
- 58:16Speaker 2: He had all kinds of receivers to throw to and
- 58:18Speaker 2: just missed them.
- 58:19Speaker 1: And that's his career, right, that's his career.
- 58:21Speaker 2: But I'm going to just say that was an outlier.
- 58:25Speaker 2: This year, he's been pretty good. Yeah, he's been very accurate.
- 58:28Speaker 2: He's he runs around all the time, Like I don't
- 58:31Speaker 2: think he was under I mean he probably percentage wise,
- 58:34Speaker 2: had more pressure the other night than normal. But I've
- 58:36Speaker 2: seen him running around for his life all year and
- 58:39Speaker 2: it makes place. He was terrible in that game. I
- 58:41Speaker 2: don't think you can bank on that again.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Williams in Montreal, what's up, william I?
- 58:47Speaker 12: I have a question. Yeah, against the Browns, how do
- 58:52Speaker 12: you guys think Will Campbell and Jared Wilson will match
- 58:56Speaker 12: up against Miles Garrett. Are we going to have to
- 58:59Speaker 12: chip them on every play or fly?
- 59:03Speaker 2: I think you're gonna need more than chips. I think
- 59:04Speaker 2: you're gonna need a double team.
- 59:06Speaker 1: You might need the double team with tight end. You
- 59:08Speaker 1: might need to bring in an eligible uh lineman. I
- 59:11Speaker 1: don't think they'll do that. No, not in passing downs.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Well, I don't don't have Hunter Henry as an extra
- 59:17Speaker 2: blocker or Austin Hooper one of those guys.
- 59:20Speaker 1: But you're gonna have to have a plan. Yeah, and
- 59:21Speaker 1: I can't just that plan is gonna takes with Miles Garrett.
- 59:27Speaker 7: That's not a plan, no, I mean the more the
- 59:29Speaker 7: bigger problem might be Malie Collins inside against Jared Mason
- 59:32Speaker 7: grat He's, I mean, and Mason Graham two's rotational piece.
- 59:35Speaker 7: But you know, Malie Collins is right behind Freddie loved
- 59:37Speaker 7: Mason but is having a great season two. He's got
- 59:42Speaker 7: a lot of pressure, he's got a lot of sacks.
- 59:44Speaker 1: He's right. So you can't double both those guys.
- 59:46Speaker 7: So that's a matchup Watching Jared Wilson in that left
- 59:49Speaker 7: guard position against Malie Collins, that that could be almost
- 59:52Speaker 7: more interesting because it's harder to help your guard against
- 59:54Speaker 7: somebody like that, especially when you're.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Trying to help the left tackle against.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Drake also will be a big part of the protection.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I used to give Brady a lot of credit for
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: it in a different way because he did it with
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: his mind. I think Drake does it with his athleticism.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Dan's in New Jersey.
- 1:00:09Speaker 10: Hey, Dante, Fred, you're talking earlier about special teams, and
- 1:00:17Speaker 10: I agree with Fred.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: There they did.
- 1:00:19Speaker 10: I kind of think they did fix the kickoff. Now
- 1:00:22Speaker 10: they need to do something about the on side kick,
- 1:00:24Speaker 10: and I guess they're talking about it again. Going back
- 1:00:27Speaker 10: to the idea of fourth and fifteen. Have you heard that?
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I hate that till oh really I hate
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: manufacturing that. It's like putting the runner on second base
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: an extra I love that. I don't. It's like, but
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: a fourth and fifteen is way too cuts.
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: Where would you go if you really had to do
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: it like fourth and twenty?
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: Is that?
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: I just don't just sounds like I don't thinks like, you.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Know, we're going to have one play and that's going
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: to allow the team to get an extra possession.
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: I don't not to mention like when you're an on
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: site kick, it's on your special teams to make the play.
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: Now you're asking your best player, your quarterback, and you
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: know your offensive weapons to make.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: What I don't like what they've done with the on
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: side kick is they've taken it out unless you're losing
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: in the fourth quarter, like you can't surprise.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I don't why. That's why I don't like the whole
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: kickoff thing. Yep, all right, thanks Dan.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: But I don't know what the answer is. But that's
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: why I don't like the kickoff. I like the kickoff
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: the way it was. If you want to more kicks return,
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: then move the kickoff line back so it's harder to
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: have touchbacks.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Paul and the Colony writes in Evan is way off,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: he says he's showing his true colors. He is more
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: about the draft than the team. I would always prefer
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: to know I have a QB capable of raising the
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: talent around him over wondering if he is the guy
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: and getting better draft picks.
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: I mean, I like, I would agree with Evan if
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: you're talking about the difference between top five and fourteen. Oh,
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: you know those like like I can agree with him
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: In there. But the difference between the value of making
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: the playoffs and making a you know, for the organization.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: For what did it mean to Washington last year?
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: For me to Detroit to win that last game of
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: the year against green Bay, it was meaningless for them,
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: but not green Bay, you know, like that was huge
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: for the Lions. But you can't culture.
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: Really measure that though, you know, Like that's what I mean,
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: Like it's hard to say, give me. That's why I
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: brought up the financial component, because you know, teams do
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: get paid money, So I mean, like, you know, you
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: know that if you.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Want to tell me, like the Patriots should have lost
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: that last game against Buffalo to get the number one
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: overall pick absolutely yea or Okay, it wasn't as big
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: a deal to me as it was to other people.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: But I understand that, Like so you're talking fourth to first,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: like you didn't get anything from a culture building standpoint
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: by winning, not.
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: Almost worse was to get more vitriolized.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: So there was nothing to be gained by winning the game. Okay,
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: but that's a rare occurrence. I just I feel like
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: the part that that I think Evan and a lot
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: of people Evan's not alone.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: By the way, a lot of people.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Just always look at those draft picks like this hope
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: on the horizon, Like, I don't really understand why winning
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: two less games makes it more likely that you can
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: get Sam Laporte in the second round.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Like that's the pot. Like I think he's glossing over
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: how good of a job with Brad Holmes right the
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: GM for Detroit. Let's just say, for Detroit's GM, how
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: good of a job they did in nailing so many
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: of those picks. Yes, Penny Sewell was a top five pick,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: they weren't all top five picks.
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: And the Porta was in the mix of good tight ends,
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: but not like one of the standout It wasn't like that,
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: you know, the kid that from Penn State that went
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: Tyler Warren.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: They went to the Colts last year.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: You know, but even he was in the middle of
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: the round and so.
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: Especially like I just I'm looking at him, like, Patriots
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: make the playoffs and they lose in the first round.
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: I would much rather take that and pick twenty second.
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: I just look at the not make the playoffs and
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: pick sixteenth Like that to me is a eligible difference that.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: I look at that video in the faces and the
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: looks on those guys faces, and the excitement and the
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: enthusiasm and the culture that you can see. You can
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: visibly see the culture building as we watch these every week.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: I mean, but the emailers that make fun of me
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: and the callers that make fun of me you being
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: a curmudget are not wrong. I've been around a long time.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Not a lot of this stuff really sort of moves
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: the needle for me. Watching that video the other day
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: was like, I can see it. You can see the excitement.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: It's a difference between the last two years with the
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: four wins. Mike, you keep saying like each loss just
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: kind of like perpetuated yourself.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: You can see it.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Even guys that have been around like Fred and I
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: forever can see the difference. There's value to that.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I'm not sure what's going on with I think so
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: they pushed it. They just got.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: You just got to push notification. Have some more.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Dan, Dan you guys, Yeah, yeah, all.
- 1:05:02Speaker 16: Right, So yeah, So I wanted to give one harp
- 1:05:05Speaker 16: on Paul, Paul and Bike actually actually Paul and mainly Evan.
- 1:05:09Speaker 16: We're talking about how they were saying, uh, the problems
- 1:05:13Speaker 16: this year. In the training camp was going to be, well,
- 1:05:17Speaker 16: we were gonna have we were gonna do good on
- 1:05:19Speaker 16: defense and probably struggle on offense. But it's been the
- 1:05:22Speaker 16: complete offenses. The offense is looking amazing. Absolutely, The defense
- 1:05:25Speaker 16: is just the defense is just you never really know
- 1:05:29Speaker 16: how they're gonna start, we're gonna finish, but they've been
- 1:05:31Speaker 16: finishing good. So I want to give some what Paul
- 1:05:34Speaker 16: thinks on his thoughts on that, on the defense and
- 1:05:37Speaker 16: how the players are playing so far.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: No, Okay, nailed it. I absolutely thought it would be
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: the opposite. And that's probably the thing that has me
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: most enthusiastic about what's going on is they're not winning
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: a lot of defensive struggles and beating bad teams just
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: because they couldn't score. No, their offense is moving the
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: ball against all these teams really well. Some games that
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: they're scoring more than others, but they're moving the ball
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: pretty well in every game. Yeah, I thought it would
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: be the opposite. I thought the offense would struggle. And
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: the reason that I was sort of luke warm on
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: the whole season heading in was because of that. And
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: I you know, this is not an excuse because I
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: didn't It's not like I said it was going to happen,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: but I did keep saying. The one caveat is if
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: the quarterback makes an enormous step forward, and he did,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: he has and he is, and that's why your offense
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: is as good as it is. That's the secret, sauce.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Once you get their quarterback, then everything else falls into place.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Cameron writes in how soon everyone forgets that we beat
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: the Bills on Sunday Night Football three weeks ago? I've
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: had enough with everyone saying we haven't help any good teams.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: Who the hell has forgotten that?
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Well, he's saying anyone that says we haven't beaten any
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: good team, No one has said that.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Everybody says they've had the easiest schedule in the league.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: That's a fact, but that's but you have beaten a
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: good team one. Okay, Panthers aren't too bad.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Yeah, they are terrible as a matter of fact.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Justin writes in Evan's gonna go home tonight, walk in
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: with his arms crossed and comically PLoP on his couch
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: and frustration. Jess is gonna ask him bad day at work,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: and Evan's gonna mutter. Paul doesn't know ball and makes
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: me mad.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Doesn't know he doesn't respect the draft.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I don't think that.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: I don't. That's fat. Evan can make fun of me
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: for that and be accurate. I do not respect the draft.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Gerald and Burlington writes in for five years, we've been
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: comparing about how poor the team is and suffering through
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: back to back for one seasons. Why would you not
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: want to win now? I would love the team to
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: go to an AFC Championship or even Super Bowl and
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: come up short and stink again. And the logic of
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: slow building is flawed. You can just as easily mess
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: that up as you could drafting at pick thirty. To
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Paul's point, look at Pittsburgh. They seem to be slow
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: building for over a decade and stuck at neutral. I
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: one hundred. Expect a regression next year and wins and
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: losses because of scheduled difficult The team may be better,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: more talented, but the record worse in both as possible.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: That's another part of the two steps forward one step
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: back theory that I am strongly a proponent of. That
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: happens too. You could be a better team next year
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: and not win as many games. Yeah, that could happen.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: You're just hoping it all kind of comes out in
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: the wash of that.
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: I mean, I don't think drake Man can continue to
- 1:08:23Speaker 7: play at this level for the rest of his career.
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: I mean, this is pretty ridiculous, but i'd say defensively
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: and even a couple of places on offense. You feel,
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: like we said it before, they haven't really had a
- 1:08:34Speaker 7: chance to really remake this team the way they want
- 1:08:37Speaker 7: and they're and I mean, I don't know, I said
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: it like after week one or two, get a sense
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: there's some placeholders, and so the hope is that and again,
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: like most of these guys are coming back for better
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: or worse, whether you want them or not, whether you're
- 1:08:48Speaker 7: going to try to replace them. There isn't like, all right,
- 1:08:50Speaker 7: we got a lot of major holes that we have
- 1:08:52Speaker 7: to address, but they should have a chance of starting
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: a better starting position. And now can you start to
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: round things out and get some more of the players
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: to overextend and go crazy. But that's my hope, is
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: that you start to really build the team that you
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: want even more so, and that'll offset some of the
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: potential regression to the mean from drake Man in the.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Office, Audrey writes in simple statement, winning is good. Winning
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: breeds more success. Winning brings it more buy in and
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: better free agents. Teams should always always win as much
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: as possible. The only exception would be the bottom five teams,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: where draft position means much more like a possible quarterback. Philly,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: for example, has had no problem gaining more talent and
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: often moving up in the draft if necessary.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: That's another example Philly. They've had low draft picks and
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: they're continuing to draft well every year.
- 1:09:38Speaker 7: And that's a good example too of like a Kansas
- 1:09:41Speaker 7: city where yes, you're picking towards the bottom of the draft,
- 1:09:44Speaker 7: but you also have a good team. You don't have
- 1:09:46Speaker 7: a lot of critical, glaring needs that you probably have
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: to fill maybe once or twice, but you can sit
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: there and let the draft come to you and you're
- 1:09:54Speaker 7: not forced to have to take I mean, I get it.
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: If you're a rebuilding team, you need top five, top
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: ten talent every year. And the Patriots are a great example.
- 1:10:01Speaker 7: They've turned it around primarily on the backs of those
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: guys that they drafted in the top half of the
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: draft over the last few years. But you know, there
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: is a certain advantage too when you're at the bottom
- 1:10:10Speaker 7: of the draft and you say, oh, then you know
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: Josh Simmons fell through. I know Josh Simmons probably made
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: bad example right now Josh Simmons, But.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: In all seriousness that that's a I don't know what
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: he's dealing with that personal thing. People seem to be
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: really really concerned.
- 1:10:23Speaker 7: Sounds serious, but at the time, and maybe it will
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: eventually going forward like that's wow, they needed a left tackle.
- 1:10:29Speaker 7: They stay patient, they got one. He's looked pretty good
- 1:10:31Speaker 7: when he's been on the field. Now, I know there's
- 1:10:33Speaker 7: other issues, you know, so I just I think there is.
- 1:10:35Speaker 7: It's not like you're handcuffed to terrible talent and to
- 1:10:38Speaker 7: you guys. You know, like there are good players all
- 1:10:41Speaker 7: over the draft if you draft well.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: And I'm not saying I think I think Evan was
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: sort of saying, well, you just think it's easy to
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: do that. No, it's not. But when you're good, it's
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: easier to stay. I think it's easier to be good
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: than it is to just completely build it from the
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: studs up. I think that's hard. Yeah, I think you
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: have good players and you do what you say said
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: and you're augmenting. Yeah, you know your level of talent.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: It's is at a higher level. It should be easier,
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: not harder.
- 1:11:10Speaker 7: Well, it's like maybe we don't need the best tight
- 1:11:12Speaker 7: end in the draft class.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: But guess what the best draft end. This best tight
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: end in the.
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: Draft class just fell to you at twenty eight and
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: all right, all of a sudden, now you know, and
- 1:11:20Speaker 7: that's a little bit like I felt with you know,
- 1:11:22Speaker 7: like a pick like Jamior Gibbs, like for the Lions, like,
- 1:11:25Speaker 7: you know, did they have to take a running back.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: And like the top twelve or whatever? It was like
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: probably not.
- 1:11:29Speaker 7: But now you have an opportunity where your line's in
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: good shape. You like what you're doing on defense. You
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: know you have some talent and you know now the.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: Line is they're good players and when you if if
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: you hit the picks, you know, Noael would be sitting
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: there like like if Jalen Polk turned out to be
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: as good as a Mecca Abuka, you didn't know would
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: be saying if they didn't win those games, they would
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: have had a higher draft pick. You know, like, no,
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: you picked the wrong guy. If he was Lad McConkie.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Let's use it for apples to apples. That was the
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: guy that was available. I got right. Yep, you just
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: have It's not easy. I'm not suggesting that you just
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: wave a magic Wand Bill did it really well for
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: a long time and then he couldn't do it at all.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: So it's not easy even for the best who's ever
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: done it well.
- 1:12:17Speaker 7: That was the other part of that argument that you know,
- 1:12:19Speaker 7: it's like, yeah, Bill did it until he didn't do
- 1:12:21Speaker 7: it and then it started falling apart. And now it's
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: the dam's got a number of cracks and you don't
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: have a Rabes touche.
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: How are we doing.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Cleveland's defense the best you will have faced?
- 1:12:41Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean I think just statistically in play style,
- 1:12:46Speaker 17: you know, they're playing at a high level.
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: They're playing a lot of confidence.
- 1:12:49Speaker 17: It's a lot of speed, a lot of disruption, and
- 1:12:52Speaker 17: they don't give you a whole lot of time to
- 1:12:54Speaker 17: make decisions.
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:12:55Speaker 17: And then there's enough you know, change ups in there
- 1:12:58Speaker 17: that you know you just have to be good.
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: You have to be sound and you can't hold onto
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: the ball.
- 1:13:05Speaker 17: You know, coverage is sticky and the linebackers are fast
- 1:13:09Speaker 17: side your your run defense. It doesn't matter when you
- 1:13:12Speaker 17: finishing stats and metrics is with the list of the league.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Aside from the obvious talent, what is allowed to be.
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: So good for seven leagues?
- 1:13:19Speaker 17: Well, I think that we've improved our tackling. We've improved
- 1:13:22Speaker 17: continue to improve our technique, you know, and again it
- 1:13:27Speaker 17: hasn't been perfect, but it's it's just about coaching edge
- 1:13:31Speaker 17: wall and swarming and making sure that uh, you know,
- 1:13:35Speaker 17: we do those things and you know we've done them.
- 1:13:38Speaker 17: Sometimes we'll have to continue to do them. That's the
- 1:13:40Speaker 17: thing about this league is you don't stats and metrics,
- 1:13:45Speaker 17: numbers don't mean anything.
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: You have to go out there and and be able
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: to prove it.
- 1:13:48Speaker 17: And I know that they'll have a good plan, uh
- 1:13:51Speaker 17: for for how they want to run it. And it's
- 1:13:53Speaker 17: a physical group of alignemen and their tight ends are
- 1:13:56Speaker 17: blocking well you know, and Quen Shawn is rushing you know,
- 1:14:01Speaker 17: running hard physical So they've done a nice job.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: How was your block in your experience?
- 1:14:08Speaker 9: How was a block?
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Handle?
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: The level of success and good word the first of h.
- 1:14:14Speaker 17: I mean, I think we always just try to stay consistent.
- 1:14:16Speaker 17: We've tried to say keep that message going, try to
- 1:14:19Speaker 17: have a you know, a new plan, new preparation, new
- 1:14:23Speaker 17: opponent each and every week, you know, try to celebrate
- 1:14:27Speaker 17: the success that we've had, but then clearly.
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: Move on and and focus on the next challenge.
- 1:14:34Speaker 17: And we'll have to do that this week, and uh,
- 1:14:38Speaker 17: you know it's a big one, you know, coming back
- 1:14:40Speaker 17: home and just making sure that you know, we don't
- 1:14:43Speaker 17: take anything for granted in our preparation. This is a
- 1:14:46Speaker 17: different unit, a different team than than Tennessee, and so
- 1:14:51Speaker 17: that we have to just get going, learn them, learn
- 1:14:53Speaker 17: a play style, uh, try to match their speed the
- 1:14:56Speaker 17: best that we can in practice, and be ready to
- 1:14:58Speaker 17: go for it.
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: H On some why did you kill Murphy from the
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: first time he pour?
- 1:15:04Speaker 17: I just you know, he was a very productive college player,
- 1:15:06Speaker 17: and you know he's improved his fourth down ability and
- 1:15:10Speaker 17: has experience there.
- 1:15:13Speaker 18: Kleon Jason was named the AFC Defender of the up
- 1:15:15Speaker 18: the league.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: Just what have you seen from him this season and
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: what does it mean for him to run that honor.
- 1:15:22Speaker 17: I mean, he showed up in the offseason ready to
- 1:15:25Speaker 17: learn and work and earn a role, and he's done that.
- 1:15:29Speaker 17: And I would say that he's an important member of
- 1:15:31Speaker 17: the punt team, something that he's taken very seriously since
- 1:15:37Speaker 17: he got here and trying to do those things and
- 1:15:39Speaker 17: help us on the punt team, and then taking advantage
- 1:15:43Speaker 17: of his opportunities.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: Like to speak good special teams as a teammate and
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: a colleague overvent trouble.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: In the Quality's a demonstrated as a player and also
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: as a coach that may make.
- 1:15:54Speaker 6: Him a future head coach.
- 1:15:56Speaker 17: A great competitive spirits as a player, I mean, he
- 1:15:59Speaker 17: was a Tasmanian devil. Enjoyed a time with Bubba immensely
- 1:16:06Speaker 17: and then being able to be with him in Cleveland
- 1:16:12Speaker 17: last year. It was fun to just see his relationship
- 1:16:15Speaker 17: and connections with the players. The way that he coaches,
- 1:16:19Speaker 17: His energy is evaluation of players. So he's done a
- 1:16:22Speaker 17: great job in his role and I'm sure that if
- 1:16:27Speaker 17: presented with those opportunities he would he would do an
- 1:16:29Speaker 17: amazing job with any head coaching opportunities that would come
- 1:16:33Speaker 17: his way.
- 1:16:33Speaker 7: Like you mentioned this offseason one play tag name coverage,
- 1:16:36Speaker 7: it feels like the past couple of weeks, you guys
- 1:16:38Speaker 7: have kind of gotten away from that as they go
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: more of a product of the game plan or your execution.
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: Would actually play man probably a little bit of both.
- 1:16:45Speaker 17: So when we play man, we got to not let
- 1:16:48Speaker 17: our man catch the ball, and we got to be
- 1:16:50Speaker 17: able to get to the quarterback and force them to,
- 1:16:54Speaker 17: you know, to get rid of it maybe before those
- 1:16:55Speaker 17: routes can separate or run away.
- 1:16:59Speaker 19: On CP's question, a lot of times coaches say that
- 1:17:02Speaker 19: how teams responds success and adversity, and coaches that we
- 1:17:06Speaker 19: can see like how that how that translates. Have you
- 1:17:09Speaker 19: noticed anything specifically where you're interested to see how this
- 1:17:12Speaker 19: team would deal with success when you guys started stacking
- 1:17:16Speaker 19: you know.
- 1:17:16Speaker 17: Fans, Well, first off, I don't know who CP is.
- 1:17:19Speaker 17: I apologize, I know Chris. I just didn't know CP.
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: Yeah, we're just I don't really.
- 1:17:30Speaker 17: We've tried to keep it the same and we've tried
- 1:17:32Speaker 17: to coach the same. We've tried to show them the
- 1:17:35Speaker 17: things that they've done well and that we have to
- 1:17:37Speaker 17: continue to do and enhance, show them the things that
- 1:17:40Speaker 17: we have to improve on and then eliminate the stuff
- 1:17:43Speaker 17: that that's going to get us beat coming out of
- 1:17:44Speaker 17: that game, and show them the corrections and the emphasis
- 1:17:47Speaker 17: that we put on the run game and the things
- 1:17:49Speaker 17: that we when we did it well, when we didn't
- 1:17:51Speaker 17: do it well, you know, Coach ball security, coach our identity,
- 1:17:55Speaker 17: our identity every single day.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: I don't know how else to do it. No, I
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: just you know, I mean.
- 1:18:03Speaker 17: It's you kind of just got to stay consistent and
- 1:18:06Speaker 17: focus on these things and you know, practice it every day.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 1:18:11Speaker 9: So you've been around Jim Schwartz last year obviously in.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Tennessee to talk about identity.
- 1:18:16Speaker 19: What would you how would you describe against his preferred
- 1:18:18Speaker 19: identity defense?
- 1:18:19Speaker 17: Well, they're fast, you know, I mean, they're they're disruptive,
- 1:18:25Speaker 17: you know, they they they put pressure on the quarterback
- 1:18:28Speaker 17: and they do it through through their their players and
- 1:18:32Speaker 17: their identity, you know, I mean they're they're they understand
- 1:18:37Speaker 17: what they want to do and how they want to play,
- 1:18:40Speaker 17: and they want to force into mistakes.
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: Uh. If if you give up loose.
- 1:18:44Speaker 17: Plays or guys get on the edge of somebody or somebody,
- 1:18:47Speaker 17: you know, you've got an elite edge rusher on the outside,
- 1:18:50Speaker 17: and if you know you can't step up, it's gonna
- 1:18:54Speaker 17: be hard to to protect, you know. And then the
- 1:18:57Speaker 17: corners are going to be sticky, and you know, the
- 1:18:59Speaker 17: linebacker are all can run. Safeties are very good tacklers.
- 1:19:02Speaker 17: And that's the thing that I've noticed is that you know,
- 1:19:05Speaker 17: if a ball breaks, it's eight yards is a really
- 1:19:08Speaker 17: long run for this against this team, because the safeties
- 1:19:11Speaker 17: are such good tacklers, you know, Grant and Ronnie.
- 1:19:15Speaker 19: What goes into winning a home game versus a road
- 1:19:18Speaker 19: game over years of football?
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: Can it be?
- 1:19:21Speaker 9: Can it be somewhat of a distraction being back home?
- 1:19:25Speaker 6: No? I don't think the numbers would tell you that.
- 1:19:27Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: I mean, I think you play well, and you take
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: care of football.
- 1:19:31Speaker 17: Create some explosive plays, get off the field on third down,
- 1:19:35Speaker 17: score touchdowns in the red zone. I would say that
- 1:19:39Speaker 17: no matter where you are, what time zone you're in,
- 1:19:42Speaker 17: that those things would always translate, and you know, maybe
- 1:19:46Speaker 17: the defensive communication would have to be improved or maybe
- 1:19:51Speaker 17: eye contact their hand signals as opposed to being able
- 1:19:54Speaker 17: to hear you know. I mean, if you're playing well
- 1:19:58Speaker 17: enough and your fans are into it, and there's it's loud,
- 1:20:01Speaker 17: you know, I mean communicating different things that are happening
- 1:20:04Speaker 17: that don't happen on the road. You could practically yell
- 1:20:08Speaker 17: out to the defense on the road as quiet as
- 1:20:11Speaker 17: as it is allowed.
- 1:20:13Speaker 19: Drake may be so appry.
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: I mean I think that I think receivers are helping him.
- 1:20:19Speaker 17: I think that the the ability to step up in
- 1:20:22Speaker 17: a pocket. But you know, I probably you know, special
- 1:20:26Speaker 17: talent as well, maybe staying calm and the things that
- 1:20:29Speaker 17: they've worked on and he's practiced as far as when
- 1:20:32Speaker 17: he's on the move, you know, to be able to
- 1:20:37Speaker 17: still gilt, stay in phase and not open up his
- 1:20:40Speaker 17: body or let things, you know, get loose, which would
- 1:20:43Speaker 17: lead lead to an erratic or an errant throw.
- 1:20:47Speaker 19: Like we have a nasty about trail in a while,
- 1:20:48Speaker 19: Just what if anything in the way of an update
- 1:20:50Speaker 19: can you end?
- 1:20:51Speaker 17: I would say that his spirits are good, he's feeling good,
- 1:20:53Speaker 17: he's been in he's been meeting with coaches, been in meetings.
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: So I appreciate you asking, you.
- 1:21:01Speaker 17: Know, and there'll be a treatment plan here coming up,
- 1:21:04Speaker 17: uh that he'll have to follow. But right now, it's
- 1:21:08Speaker 17: good to see him. It's good to see him in
- 1:21:10Speaker 17: and his you know, spirits are good.
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: You've played against some of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: Are Marino Elway played with the greatest quarterback of all time?
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: We just straight may fit into that conversation right now.
- 1:21:27Speaker 17: I mean I never played those guys when they were
- 1:21:29Speaker 17: that young, but I did play against those guys. I
- 1:21:34Speaker 17: mean I played against Dan Marino when his cleat was
- 1:21:37Speaker 17: like twelve inches high because of his achilles and it
- 1:21:41Speaker 17: was on the dirt infield. Yeah, I you know, too
- 1:21:46Speaker 17: early in his career to understand. I think Drake's so
- 1:21:49Speaker 17: excited just to be leading this football team and it's
- 1:21:52Speaker 17: fun to watch him want to, you know, prepare and
- 1:21:54Speaker 17: get better and improve every day. You got another question
- 1:21:57Speaker 17: to I know you were kidding, what I mean, if
- 1:22:00Speaker 17: you've ever seen a quarterback get this hot for such
- 1:22:02Speaker 17: an extended period.
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: I try not to focus on that.
- 1:22:06Speaker 17: I think we focus on what's going on this week
- 1:22:09Speaker 17: and what corrections need to be made. And the good
- 1:22:12Speaker 17: thing is is there's a lot of things that we
- 1:22:14Speaker 17: can improve. There's so much that we can improve in
- 1:22:20Speaker 17: all three phases right and still be able to win
- 1:22:22Speaker 17: a football game. But we have to to improve on
- 1:22:25Speaker 17: them and correct them, you know, or we're gonna The
- 1:22:29Speaker 17: unfortunate part is is you're gonna have to learn from losing,
- 1:22:31Speaker 17: and I don't want to do that.
- 1:22:33Speaker 19: Like, what are ongoing conversations and Drake about the slide,
- 1:22:37Speaker 19: you know, any.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: Contacts when he can is there? What are the conversations
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: like is in an ongoing process with him.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: Mark.
- 1:22:46Speaker 17: I know we talked to him about making great decisions
- 1:22:49Speaker 17: like the rest of the team, and that would be
- 1:22:51Speaker 17: a good decision for him to make. But again, like
- 1:22:55Speaker 17: all the other conversations we have with players, those will
- 1:22:58Speaker 17: remain with us.
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: But that's part of making great decisions. Thanks guys, Thanks Mike.

- 1:25:22Speaker 11: Do you think that helps you? Your musical knowledge helps

- 1:25:36Speaker 1: I said, do you read music? Yeah? I said, because
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: I know you paint by number? I know I caught that.
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: I ignored him, Fred, do you read music?
- 1:25:46Speaker 11: Because you're good at impressions too, So you have that gift.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: I can play the harmonica by year? There you go, yeah,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: and by my mouth. Oh but that's another great moment
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: from all right back here in Pages Unfiltered, Mike has
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: gone to the locker room to go rescue Evan.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: We hope that to a wellness check. Yeah, I hope
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: the players will be hoping to get Diggs. Diggs usually
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: talks on Wednesdays. We'll see if Mike can get in
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: on that one.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: So he'll return from the locker room and we'll talk
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: to him.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: You have any thoughts on Vrabel today kind of run
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: in the mill, I'll tell you very run of the
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: mill it might be. And I said this in the
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: postgame show Sunday after the game, and I mean this
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: with the most respect, like it was kind of like
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: a whole hum boring game, Like and how refreshing is
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: it that we've progressed to the point where you go
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: from four and two to five and two and it's
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: just like business as usual. This is what was supposed
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: to happen, right, you know, And I think Rabel's press
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: conference today was a little of that. It's like, yeah,
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: you know, we brought in a guy, Caleb Murphy. We
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: probably should have mentioned that at some point, you know,
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: they claimed him off waivers. I think we talked about
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: him a little, Yester. There's just a guy with a
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: lot of production in college, you know, Edge Rusher, Uh,
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: you know, but beyond that, just you know, Cleveland does
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: a lot of things well defensively.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Yeah, there weren't a lot of Cleveland questions you but
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: you know, no, you're right, And so I mean the
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: media is kind of treating it like Hohome a little bit.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: So I guess that's good. Like I've always been one
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: to say I don't need to be entertained when it
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: comes to Patriots games. I want to blow out every team.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I don't want to be white knuckle. I'll leave that
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: for all the other games. But obviously, when you have
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: those white knuckle it's entertaining. I'm not going to say
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: it isn't. But I'm perfectly happy winning thirty one to thirteen.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I would just I'm perfectly happy when my team
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: plays well, and that's why I win thirty one thirteen.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? Yep. Yeah. We had
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: that Isaac from last week a lot yesterday who criticized
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: the show wholeheartedly criticized me. I noticed nobody, nobody defended
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: me when he was saying I had no knowledge of
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: the team. But that's besides the point.
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: Well I don't think it was no knowledge period. Well yeah,
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: but they criticized everybody except for me. I felt left out.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: But Cynthia says, I'm fairly certain Isaac from Westfield's call
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: was a cry for help. Don't change a thing. Okay,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: maybe the FedEx commercial and let Isaac know that therapy
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: could help and friends, he needs friends, so, and then
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: I was recommending neck bridges yesterday.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: I recall that as well.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: Yeah, Aarun writes in Fred's chiding inspired me to brush
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: off the old singlet and get some extra neckwork in
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: at the gym today. Keep fighting the good fight, Fred,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: all of them. That's Aaron and Tokyo.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: You do have a lot of fights going on.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: I do. It's okay, keeps you know, keeps me moving.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: I have the reputation, but you have a lot more
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: in terms of grudges than I do.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: Yeah, but yours are apt to get you in trouble.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Mine not. Why am I going to because you know
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: you get into conference You're not.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: I am not confrontational.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Yes you are. No, I am, Yes you are. Yes
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: you are.
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: I'm indifferent. There's a difference.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: Franklin and Baltimore has the all important question. Am I
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: me emotionally prepared to lose this game?
- 1:29:23Speaker 9: Oh?
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: That is a great question, remember those Yeah, I'm not,
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: by the way, and I have to say that I
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: am you, Yes, I am. Well, we're halfway through the
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: week of shows. I mean more than halfway at this point.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: I am just throwing this on me.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Now, I'm emotionally prepared to lose. I don't want to lose.
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: To lose.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: Clock comes around tomorrow.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: If we lose, I'm not going to be like, I
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: can't believe we lost that game. How did it happen?
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I'm not going to be that. I don't know.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: If I would say I can't believe it, I don't
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: know how that happened, you know, but i'd be close. Yeah,
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: i'd be close.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: The only thing I would say, you know, Evan has
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: been really dismissive of Cleveland, and I wouldn't go as
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: far as he has. I don't think that the Patriots
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: would need to do what they did against Pittsburgh and
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: turn it over five times, like I think one or two.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: You know, if if they had one or two, you
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: could lose because they could slow you down a little bit.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: They could help Cleveland score some points. You don't have
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: to help them score all the points. Yeah, and they
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: you know, they could pull an up set. I just
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: this is just no offense there. This is a really
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: bad offense. Jack, and I'm not emotionally prepared to lose. Fred,
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: You're alona that one.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Okay, Jack? And and Abba has a stud or stiff
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: Brown's edition, stutter stiff, Jerry Judy stiff, Dylan Gabriel.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: Stiff. I mean, I think it's too early to say,
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: but I think.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: He's stutter stiff, Quin Shawn Judkins, Stud, Miles Garrett. I
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: think we know Stud. Mason Graham.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: I don't know him. I haven't seen him play much.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: But Jerry's out. Jerry's still I haven't.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: Seen Cleveland play, so I don't know exactly what he's doing.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Jerry's still out. Anthony writes in Paul maybe snarky, but
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: he's very good at the debating aspect. He will not
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: allow any of the fans who call her email to
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: stray away from a specific arguing point. I think that
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: isn't he learned that from me. I think that isn't
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: always easy. It is very good. Perfect example of this
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: was the Christian in La call kudos to Paul, and
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: Jason says he's in Savannah. He says the La guy
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: is a dufus so self centered. He thinks he's self centered.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: I could see that.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: Like I said, he you can have an argument and
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: disagree or agree or whatever. I did not change my
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: argument in the middle right, and that's what he's claiming. Like, Oh,
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: you just want to make fun of me when I call,
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: and then a half hour later you're agreeing with me.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: I don't agree with wanting to lose. I don't agree
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: with being war that they're not quite as good? Are
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: they not quite as good as their record? Maybe? But
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: I'm not worried about it. Right, win, win the games,
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: take advantage of the schedule, and why not.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: To that point, Corey writes in if we get to
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: a point where our biggest worry becomes drafting lower on
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: the board and sustaining future success, I will take that
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: every time. The fact that we have to focus on
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: sustaining success means we are experiencing success. After the last
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: couple of four win seasons, it seems weird to worry
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: about a few lower round draft picks that may or
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: may not be good players.
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's kind of what I'm what I'm
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: going on, You know what, you want something to worry about,
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: just like looking at to manufacture things to be concerned about.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: I heard on my show yesterday, you know, at Felger
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: and Big Jim Murray, they were talking a little bit
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: about the draft class, like this current draft class not
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: a good one. Well, the jury is still out. Okay,
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: we don't know enough yet, but like the early returns
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: are just okay, like they're not great.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: Oh oh are Yeah? I thought you meant the future
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: draft class for next year.
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: No, I mean like Will Campbell's been okay, yeah, no, no,
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: it's you know, yeah, Traveon Henderson has been you know, minimally.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Kyle Williams not too Kyle.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: Williams, you know, not great. You know the Craig Woodson
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: has been a starter and he plays all the time,
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: but he's just.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Okay, was Bora gollisworth the pick?
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: I don't you know my answer to that? No, I
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: think he's a good kicker.
- 1:33:27Speaker 6: So well.
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: The rest of them, you don't have to draft them.
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: All the kickers are the same. They tell you that
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: all the time. There is three or four that stand
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: out among the rest, like Brandon Aubery, who's now made
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: five sixty plus yard field goals, which is amazing. That guy. Yeah,
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: if you drafted him, sure that's worth it. That's a weapon.
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: The rest of them are all kind of the same.
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: But you want something to worry about, like, wet is
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: this class going to live up to the right because
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: we already look at the twenty four class, the Drake
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: May class and it's really just Rake May. Yep, that
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: ain't good. But when you have the third overall pick, No,
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: when you have the third overall pick was the year
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: before you you're picking third in the round all every round?
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: Or are you're picking in the top five in the round.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: I know sometimes it rotates depending on ties. You need
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: to get more than one good player.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Yeah right, yep, Chris and main. I agree with Paul
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: about winning as much as possible, not worrying about higher
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: picks the build or sustain up. The better example for
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: his argument, in my opinion, is the round the ROMs.
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: They went like five years without a first round pick,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: yet have consistently found good players to stay good.
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: In the draft. Two. Yes, that's a great, great point
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: that there's more team like. I'm glad these emailers are
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: helping me because I'm not even thinking of all the
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: different teams. I just like threw out like Baltimore and Pittsburgh,
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: but like Philadelphia that we had Audrey I think emailed
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: in that one is another good one. The Rams, like
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: those those defensive players weren't top five picks if they
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: got that defense with you know with Verse and uh,
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: you know Fisk and those guys, they've been good players
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: for them.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: Steven in Virginia writes in to Evans's point about the
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: potential missed opportunities that come with drafting later in the draft,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: with the Lions as his example. In the twenty twenty
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: three draft, Detroit had the twelfth and eighteenth pick in
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: the first round. They took Gibbs twelve, Campbell eighteen. There
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: were zero running backs taken the rest of the first round.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: The next taken win fifty two overall, and the next
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: linebacker taken was Nolan Smith at thirty. Really an edge
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: not a true linebacker. It's impossible to know how the
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: draft would have played out if they had different picks
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: that first round, but it also isn't impossible that they
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: could have gotten one or even both of them if
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: they were picking say sixteen and twenty three, instead resulting
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: from one or two more wins that season. The Commanders
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: only had five picks in last year's draft, with only
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: three in the top one fifty. They added Tunsul and
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Debo via trade, but that, to me is a clear
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: high risk team building strategy that the Patriots should look at.
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: And probably avoid this offseason. Winning is most important. Establishing
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: a good culture that expects to win and compete is
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: most important, because then players around the league want to
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: come here. The players here get experience actually winning close games,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: and when you add free agency or draft picks, it
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: becomes easier to get buy in when the rest of
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: the team has an established standard that is sustainable. There
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: you go. Once you forward that to.
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: Evan, yeah, I mean I the first part, and I
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: know he wasn't saying this, Like, you don't know how
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: Jamier Gibbs, how long he would have been available. He
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: was a highly regarded player in that draft. Jack Campbell
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: they could have gotten. They could have waited and gotten
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Jack Campbell. I'm not suggesting that it's not good to
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: draft high. I'm just saying that's not the only way
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: to get good players. You have to hit the picks
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: wherever you take them. You have to hit some picks right.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: Right, invest in good scouting department.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: It's like, you know, you just brought up Booty a
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: little while ago. They got Booty and Douglas in the
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: sixth round three years ago, and you know they took
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Kyle Williams in the third round they took Jalen Polk
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: in the second round. You know the guys they took
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: in the sixth round three years ago of playing better.
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: That's right, Like you just you never know when you're
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: going to find players.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Uh eight five five Pats five hundred is the hotline again.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: Deucibly back with news from the locker room. We'll have
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: an eye on Evan. We'll see what happened in there.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: Raheem in Georgia is on the line. What's up, Raheem Rahim,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: Georgia four or four? Nope, not there?
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: Okay, but you thrown out the area code?
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: Oh I got that from this morning? Did you're here?
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: On the one of your shows, they had this guy
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: that works he's I don't know if he's an intern
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: or back, but he used to work for the four
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: one one, you know how they used to call on
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: a person. So this kid they quizzed him and he
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: knew all the area codes all over the country.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: Really.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they go like San Antonio, be like eight one two,
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: you know, or then they go eight one two and
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: he goes San Antonio.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so he knew all the area codes. It was fun.
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Oh god?
- 1:38:31Speaker 7: Hey, hey Paul, Yes, sir.
- 1:38:37Speaker 16: You like me very confrontational.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: Hey, I love it.
- 1:38:40Speaker 10: I love argument.
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: I'm not as confrontational as Fred is me confrontational.
- 1:38:48Speaker 13: But Fred Afred you do it, you man, You're sneaky
- 1:38:52Speaker 13: at it though.
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: Yes, I'm an instigator. Paul's a finisher, an instigator.
- 1:39:03Speaker 9: Are you I need my T shirt?
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Oh? You need your T shirt? Okay? Alex? Yeah, Ronnie,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: you just gotta send us your.
- 1:39:12Speaker 9: Last week I said thirty one thirteen.
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: There you go, send them a T shirt?
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: You go.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: What's your size? Aldrid?
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: Send the man his T shirt? What do you need
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: for a size? Biggie?
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Two weeks two x two? As they sitting down in
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: that truck too long? Big boy gotta start doing those planks, all.
- 1:39:30Speaker 14: Right, flanks and what everything else?
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: All right?
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: Emailing your emailing your address?
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, he still take care of you.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: All right? Okay, thanks, Aldrid.
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: What's the score this week?
- 1:39:43Speaker 10: Go this week?
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:39:45Speaker 16: Man, I'm sitting at Deepen, so I'm gonna say twenty twenty.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Three twenty to okay, okay, you don't think all right?
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: That sounds good to me. I'll take it, Thanks, Eldrid.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: I'll take that. Ted's in San Diego. What's up?
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: Ted?
- 1:40:05Speaker 11: All?
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: Hey, Freddy Paul. Just three quick comments, first of which
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: was the stumble by cam Wood when he flipped the
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: ball back into the end zone was reminiscent of back
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: in the early seventies. I'm not sure if Paul do
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: you remember this, but there was a running back name
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: John Tarver, and he almost did the exact same thing
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: where he was running with the ball and just flipped
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: it over his head into the end zone and was
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: recovered by BuNos. Remembered, was very reminiscent.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Similar play reminds me of Gario PREMI.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: Well, I didn't have to go back that far. I
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: could go back to the plate that cam Wood made
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: in the previous game. He did the exact same thing
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: against the Raiders.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: Yeah right, SoC Second quick observation as well, a couple
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: of days ago, I guess I asked it was yesterday
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: when you guys were having was going over some of
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: the potential inductees that builds up against and one of
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: the names he mentioned this is quick comment Bill Arnsbarger,
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: which I know you guys remember, but I think that
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: Bill let's be the architect of the fifty three defense.
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: At least I think he was. And if that's true,
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: that's like one of the legendary teams and defenses. And
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: I think I believe that fifty three defense was the
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: initiation for the first time of a fourth linebacker, because
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: I think most teams played a four to three and
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: I think when they brought in that fifty three I
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: think it his name was Mathison and something like that,
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: he became the fourth linebacker. So and I believe that
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: Arnsbarker was the architect of that. And then my last
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: comment and alog you guys going thanks for the moment,
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: is you know, whenever you and Paul, I think you
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: mentioned that the four team of the six team is
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: being the greatest team. And maybe it's because of my youth,
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: but I still think about that seventy six team. Even
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: though they did not win, they beat the Steelers, who
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: were a legendary team back then, and they beat the
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: Raiders during this season.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: And I still think that seventy sixteen was the greatest
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: pass team of all time with a number of Hall
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: of Famers and legendary Patriots.
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: It's in the conversation for sure. That's probably my first
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: memories of watching Patriots games was that team. Thanks Ted
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: and Bill Ansberger was a great defensive coach. I don't
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: know anything about you know fifty three. I don't even
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: know what that is, to be honest with you, I
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: don't know anything about the history of that. But yeah,
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: I did correct Evan when he didn't know the guys. Now,
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: oh you know, that's a that's a legitimate defensive newby coach.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Newby newby John in South Carolina. I do feel like
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Paul disagrees with Christian from LA and I want to
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: thank him for doing it.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: I do tend to disagree with him. I'm not denying that.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: Let's see, this is a long one, so I don't
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: want to read that. Martin not a Kansas. I'm enjoying
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: the second half of the shows on Wednesday with the
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: two of you. Okay, it's just the two.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Of us, you know, because the original is always the best.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: I haven't had this feeling in a while. I'm more
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: worried about the next two games after the Browns. They
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: might not be an easy check off the schedule, but
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: still penciled in a win. Also, if you're more worried
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: about draft pick position than winning. That's a loser's mentality.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: This is why the Patriots have a scouting team, Elliot
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: Wolf as well as the scouting staff to find the
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: players that fit the culture. Yeah, let them worried.
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: It's not going to be easy, but that's what Yeah,
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: those guys, that's what they get paid for. Brian Cowden,
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: Elliott Wolf, whoever ends up being you know, part of this,
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: the you know, the scouting department, that's that they need
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: to find players regardless of what we're picking.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Uh, Brian and Swansea with a midweek game. This game
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: is called Cleveland Quarterback or Game of Thrones cast member. Okay,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: this game was inspired upon reflection on how lucky we
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: are to have apparently found our guy at quarterback in
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: a relatively short period of time. After Tom Brady's departure.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns have had thirty three different players start at
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: quarterback over the last twenty seasons. I'm going to list
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: a name and the panel simply has to indicate whether
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: he started at quarterback for the Browns or was an
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: actor in the Game of Thrones. So not a character
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: but an actor.
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: Okay, jeez, this is going to come down to whether
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: or not I know he was a quarterback for the Browns.
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: Connor Shaw quarterback for the Browns.
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: Correct. Rory McCann, I'm gonna guess Game of Thrones, that's correct.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: Kevin Hogan, Stanford quarterback for the Browns. Correct. Thaddeus Lewis
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: another Browns quarterback, yes, Deshown Kaiser.
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: Another Browns quarterback, Notre Dame.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: That's right, Freddy Stroma.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess Game of Thrones, correct.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: And finally Austin Davis.
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: That's another Browns quarterback out of balls one hundred.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: Sorry, uh, this is Brian Boy. You tried, but you
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: didn't do it. You couldn't stump to Schwab.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: I liked that game though. Yeah, that's a good one
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: because some of those names were really obscure.
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but he had mostly Cleveland. I think he only
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: had two Game of Thrones people, so I.
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: Think, yeah, I mean most of it's Yeah. I guess
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: you could go either way. Yeah, because the actors names
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: are well known, but that the guys who actually played
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: quarterback on the brown should be known too. I got
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: any bonus points for knowing that something where some of
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: those guys went to college.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: I was listening to that. You do get bonus points
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: for that. Yep, let's see. Kudos to Gerrod Mayo. This
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: is Gary from Football City, USA, which is rock Hill,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: South Carolina. Yes, you heard it right. Forever thankful for
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: Gerard Mayo. If Gerard did not win the last regular
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: season game last year, we would be sitting with Caleb
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: Williams as our quarterback instead of Drake. Patriots fans were
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: livid when we lost the number one PA. Stop for
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: a second, yeah, yeah, go ahead.
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: I don't know how this started, but this is just
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: patently wrong. When they won the last game of the
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: year last year, Drake may was standing on the sidelines
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: watching the game. Winning the game did not prevent them
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: from drafting Caleb Williams.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: It didn't.
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: He had been drafted the previous season, two picks before
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: Drake may was. It's not the same year. I don't
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: know why everybody gets this wrong. My show gets it
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: wrong quite often, right in the morning one of my show.
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: It's not the show that I'm usually on. Yep, seriously,
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: that you have the years are off. In all seriousness,
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: do you understand what I'm saying? Because you're looking you're
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: looking at me a little confused. Right, last year, the
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: Patriots already he had Drake May. He's not a rookie
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: right now, right, he was already on the team last year.
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: Winning the game against Gerard May or winning the Buffalo game,
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: did not do anything to Drake May. He was already
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: on the Patriots.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: He was already on the Patriots.
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: Thank you. Yep, this public service announcement is over.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: So let's just say that the Patriots had had the
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: first round pick, the first overall pick, in the year
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: that they drafted Drake May, who was the quarterback picked
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: ahead of him.
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: And when Drake May was drafted, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels,
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: Drake May won two three.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: Okay, So why couldn't they have drafted Caleb Williams. They
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: had the third pick, I know, But if they had
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: the first pick, could they have drafted.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: If they had the first pick, they could have. It
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: had nothing to do with beating Buffalo, to do.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: With beating Buffalo. I see what you're saying. It's a
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: different year. I see what you're saying.
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: Okay, they had the third pick the year they picked
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: Drake May.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: They didn't.
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: They had nothing to do with winning the last game.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: Didn't pick Drake May this year?
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: Is what bank Bill Belichick for going four and thirteen
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: that allowed you to get Drake May.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: There you go, there you go now. But I think
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: the question just just to talk about it. If they
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: had the choice of Caleb Williams or Drake May, who
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: do you think this staff would have picked?
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: I have absolutely no idea. I really can't intelligence or
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: Jade Daniels for that matter. If they had their choice
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: of any of the quarterbacks, who would they have taken?
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: I have no idea. Well, let's thank god that they
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: picked Drake May and they only had one choice.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: I would agree with that they didn't really have. I
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: think the choices were those top three guys and the
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: other three guys that went in the first round. I
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: don't think we're legitimate options. Had three, now you could.
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: I think you can make an argument that they had
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: a legitimate option to take a trade. I think the
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: Giants wanted to move up. I think Minnesota wanted to
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: move up. I think you could have said r J. McCary,
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: take a couple of you know, we'll take a couple
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: of picks for you to move up, and we can
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: take you know, the next quarterback, right, you know, whether
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: it be Pennix or McCarthy or Nicks. I don't think
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: any of those three guys was a legitimate option at
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: number three overall? Would you agree?
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: I agree? Yeah.
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: Now, if they had their choice of any of those three,
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: I probably think they would have taken Caleb Williams. But
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: I don't really know. I don't. Yeah, that's one of
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: those you never really Why do you think people are
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: getting that wrong?
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: And there I don't think because they said it on
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: the Sports Hub. John Wallack said it one day. I
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: think I told you about this like three weeks ago. Like,
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: I can't believe that they're actually saying this, and no
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: one's like stepping into correct it.
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: It's like.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: From the locker room, what was the mood where the
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: player's friendly to that, none of them, like Henry, what
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: was it like like Mike, Hey, guys, you come in
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: with a big smile.
- 1:50:05Speaker 13: Sorry.
- 1:50:06Speaker 7: It just cracks me up every time and I feel
- 1:50:07Speaker 7: slightly bad.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: Oh, I thought it was something that happened a lot. No, well,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: it probably looked like he was making a really important
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: point and then we just we cut him right off.
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: For some reason, there seems to be confusion because they
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: won the game. Thank god they won the game last year,
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: the last game, because that allowed them to get the
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: fourth pick instead of the first pick, and they did.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: They would have taken Caleb Williams instead of Drake May
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: Caleb Williams, oh instead of Drake and O. Yeah yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: they're off.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: Yeah, whoops.
- 1:50:35Speaker 7: That happens from time to time. But yes, back from
- 1:50:37Speaker 7: the locker room. Heard from Stefan Diggs, as we always do,
- 1:50:40Speaker 7: always enjoy that. I thought young Evans are asked the
- 1:50:43Speaker 7: questions just about his leadership and you know where that
- 1:50:46Speaker 7: came from, and that was interesting thing said.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: You know, that's why they brought me in too, you know,
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: to be a leader.
- 1:50:50Speaker 7: And he pointed to Matt Collins as well as providing
- 1:50:52Speaker 7: some leadership from that room.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: I know there's the point we've talked a lot about that.
- 1:50:55Speaker 7: Those guys have really you know, brought a good energy
- 1:50:58Speaker 7: to that room and you're seeing some production, he pointed
- 1:51:00Speaker 7: to to the younger players, you know, showing leadership, stepping up,
- 1:51:03Speaker 7: being competitive.
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: So good stuff from Diggs.
- 1:51:06Speaker 7: You know, also talking about you know, winning at home
- 1:51:08Speaker 7: and you know, just trying to stay sharp and keep
- 1:51:10Speaker 7: it rolling. And her from Will Campbell as well. I
- 1:51:13Speaker 7: thought a good question from Phil Perry. You know, it's
- 1:51:15Speaker 7: seven weeks in. Do you feel like you've proved some
- 1:51:18Speaker 7: people wrong? There were some questions about your you know,
- 1:51:20Speaker 7: arm link and those kind of things, and what position
- 1:51:22Speaker 7: you might play, and Will Campbell said, you know, to
- 1:51:24Speaker 7: be honest, I never really approached anything about proving anyone wrong.
- 1:51:28Speaker 7: Like none of that pre draft talk helped helped me
- 1:51:31Speaker 7: in any way. I've just been focused on coming in
- 1:51:33Speaker 7: here and trying to help the team.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: So, you know, I thought he was going to say,
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: well it takes three years, right, He's like, no, I
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: felt that way after the second game.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: But he also told the story that her before.
- 1:51:42Speaker 7: He told on one of the radio on the podcasts
- 1:51:44Speaker 7: you Want about someone sending him the t Rex and
- 1:51:48Speaker 7: asking for an autograph and and they said.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: You know, Dann Roach was like, well, what did you
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: do when you got it?
- 1:51:52Speaker 7: That kind of take your back saying no, I checked
- 1:51:54Speaker 7: the return address though, and it was in his locker somewhere.
- 1:51:58Speaker 7: But and then the last one was calebon Cha. I
- 1:52:00Speaker 7: saw im just talking about winning AFC.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Defensive Player of the week first touchdown of his career.
- 1:52:06Speaker 7: He said some of his he's getting a lot of
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: flak from some of his teammates about not having a
- 1:52:10Speaker 7: sack dance, and he's like, you know.
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: You're gonna come up with a new sack dance now.
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: He's like, no, man, I'm six years in.
- 1:52:14Speaker 7: So he was excited, sent the touchdown ball back to
- 1:52:17Speaker 7: his mom, who was excited to receive it, and otherwise
- 1:52:20Speaker 7: just another good day of energy.
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: Getting ready to head.
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: Out there to the practice fields.
- 1:52:24Speaker 7: Felt huge media contingent again, just I mean, crowded in
- 1:52:28Speaker 7: around Stefan Diggs.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: It's anyone new and notable.
- 1:52:32Speaker 7: I don't know about notable so much as but no,
- 1:52:34Speaker 7: it's it's just it, you know what it is.
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: It always seems like the TV producers are the ones growing.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: Like the beat.
- 1:52:39Speaker 7: Guys are always there, you know who writes about the team,
- 1:52:41Speaker 7: there here for everything. But you slowly start to see
- 1:52:44Speaker 7: more cameras and more producer types, not necessarily asking questions,
- 1:52:48Speaker 7: but guys there with their cameras holding the mics and
- 1:52:51Speaker 7: so yeah, it's just overall continuation of what we've seen
- 1:52:54Speaker 7: over the last few weeks. Good energy, everybody getting ready
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: to head out to practice here.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: Good, and how's Evan. We're a little worried about it.
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: I talked to him. I talked to him.
- 1:53:02Speaker 7: He was still really mad, really mad.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: But he was laughing.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: He's like, you guys have fun. While I laughed. I'm like,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: you did.
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: I mean, we kept going because it ends. Yeah, you
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: know what I mean, it's like it's no fun when
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: the guys, I know, I know.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: No, he was fired up.
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: Yeah, so Evan was.
- 1:53:21Speaker 7: He was doing some lurk and I saw him, you know,
- 1:53:23Speaker 7: talking to Kyle Williams a little bit on the side,
- 1:53:25Speaker 7: so you know, evn Evan does his onn thing, but
- 1:53:26Speaker 7: he wasn't on digs too, and got his question and
- 1:53:28Speaker 7: I thought it was a was a good question.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: And that's your eye on Evan. Brought to you by
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: Brunt Workware bront workwhere it makes work boots in apparel
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: that are built for the job site and they're an
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: official sponsor of the New Orleans Patriots and Gillette Stadium
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: field crew. Their gear is comfortable, durable, and named after
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: the real workers and the trades that helped design it.
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: You can even try brunt out on the job and
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: if it doesn't blow you away. They let you send
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: it back save ten dollars on your first order at
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: bruntworkware dot com, slash pats or with coupon code. Pats
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: just want to let you know. I was holding out
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: us hoping Front would send me some new boots that
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: they haven't. So I broke down and I just ordered it.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: But I did use my PATS code and I got
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: ten dollars off. There you go. So there you go.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: The boots you had one working out for me, Well,
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: I like those, but those are like kind of nice.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: I don't want to work to work, So I bought
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: some like traditional style that are ready to get beat
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: up along. I threw out my old ones that we got,
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: Like how long ago was that?
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: Like you guys us together, you had the original, that's
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: the ones that I told you I had a tape together.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: We talked about it the other day.
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: I didn't realize that you had the same thing. I
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: just figured because I'm so cheap, I still have that.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: I still it was the two thousands. Yeah, we had
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: another sponsor. I don't want I don't want it.
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: I don't even I mean I would give them credit.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: I don't even remember I do. But but it was
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: it was like the early two thousands. Yeah, that's how
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: long we've had them, probably over twenty years.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: So I officially threw them out today.
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: I had a duct tape to soul because I was
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: out doing the yard, you know, in the snow, and
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: all of a sudden, I'm like what, I'm like, I
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: was off balanced.
- 1:55:01Speaker 7: Testament to how much hard work you put in in
- 1:55:03Speaker 7: the yard, and I hope your family appreciates.
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: Actually a testament to how little because because I have
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: the only time I ever wear them is when I
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: shovel snow.
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: Okay, my shovel.
- 1:55:14Speaker 2: I don't wear work boots very often either.
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: I need I need some quality rain footwear, you know.
- 1:55:21Speaker 7: I just when it's a rainy day and we got
- 1:55:23Speaker 7: to walk through this parking lot, it's like a deluge.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: Especially, it's this footwear that you would change once you
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: got any You're gonna wear it all day.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: I haven't really ponished that. Two different style now, that
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: might be, but they're really like good of course, I
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: have two answers for each one answer.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: I'm fascinated to hear it. But I'm I'm.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: I'm told I can't really I can't really plug brands
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: that aren't so I can't.
- 1:55:47Speaker 7: Tell you on it gloshes, but you know like they have,
- 1:55:49Speaker 7: like just the rubber boots that we'll talk.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: You give me a hookup, you got a guy or something,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: I'll let you know. In fact, one of our listeners
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: works for this other company that I'm going to recommend
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: and said that they can hook us up.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: Oh jeez, nothing nothing on to war there. That's called plug.
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: And I told him, I said that I really appreciate that,
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: but I can't mention you.
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: So hush man, I can't get a car, but this
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: guy can evidently do whatever he wants offline boots cars.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: You can do whatever you want offline too. You want
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: to call Toyota today, Go ahead, Hi, Toyota, this is
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Paul Pillo. You know.
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: Can I get a free Yeah, well no, evidently it
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: can't be someone that that advertiss with us.
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Someone else. Well that's I didn't want to say someone
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: else got it. I left it at Toyota. Get a guy.
- 1:56:46Speaker 7: By the way, it's interesting though, I'm sponsoring Evan Evans segment.
- 1:56:51Speaker 7: Of all the guys that doesn't as law, that's he's
- 1:56:54Speaker 7: the one that gets the Braunt the brunts.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Well, we're going to get him into working the eye
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: on ev. He's married.
- 1:56:58Speaker 7: Now up, things aren't good in the Lazar household. After
- 1:57:01Speaker 7: the Bruins performance last night, let's just say I saw
- 1:57:04Speaker 7: that game.
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: I'm surprised there was only one goal.
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I was surprised they made the comeback because they
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: look like they were thoroughly outclassed the first two periods
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, Now at.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: Florida is really beat up. Can I tell you that
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: lost like four in a row before that. Florida scored
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: like two minutes in on a power play, and then
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: I clucked it off. I'm not watching this. Wake me
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: up in you know, May draft?
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: Yeah, May, that's draft. But the good thing is they'll
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: have a good draft pack. Yeah, we'll just bring it
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: full perfect eight.
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: Five to five past five hundred is the hot line.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: Let's go to North Carolina. Francisco's on the line. What's up, Francisco?
- 1:57:41Speaker 10: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: Guys?
- 1:57:43Speaker 8: Hey?
- 1:57:43Speaker 13: Hey, hey, So I'm going to because.
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: He doesn't need to be.
- 1:57:50Speaker 13: You can't you can't make it. You can't make a
- 1:57:52Speaker 13: playoff run if you're not in the playoffs. So I'd rather,
- 1:57:55Speaker 13: I'd very much rather be picking towards the end. And
- 1:57:57Speaker 13: as long as you draft right, you're gonna get better
- 1:58:00Speaker 13: any position. You're telling me you can't get at least
- 1:58:03Speaker 13: three players from the draft, but that's all I'm saying.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: So I just wanted to call and to been that
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: you can't.
- 1:58:10Speaker 13: You cannot make a playoff run if.
- 1:58:11Speaker 10: You're not in a playoffs.
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: That is sound logic to me.
- 1:58:14Speaker 7: Francisco Quick Quick points to tie it back to the
- 1:58:16Speaker 7: nineties teams like you never know when the number one
- 1:58:19Speaker 7: seed Broncos are going to lose, and you know that
- 1:58:21Speaker 7: team that's kind of owned you, and you know, all
- 1:58:22Speaker 7: of a sudden, an opportunity opens up and here we are. We're,
- 1:58:25Speaker 7: you know, in the super Bowl just because it lined
- 1:58:26Speaker 7: up that year. His point, you don't have that opportunity to.
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: And I just look at, you know, even a bigger pitcher.
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: There are years like if this was last year, the
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: way Buffalo is playing, the way Kansas City was playing,
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: the way Baltimore was playing, I would have said, yeah,
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: you're gonna get in, but you're going to be fodder. Yeah,
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: you know for any of those teams, you don't have
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: a shot. I don't feel like that right now. I
- 1:58:50Speaker 2: think that the AFC is wide I think the league
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: in general is wide open. I don't think it's a
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: very good league this year, and I think there's a
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: lot of good teams, but there really isn't I would
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: say a great one that I've seen, not yet. The
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: Colts have played well, and I've been impressed with what
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: they have doing. I just don't look at them as
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: a great team right now that they have the best record,
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: right yeah, you know, should they just like you know,
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: are they a year ahead of schedule? I don't know.
- 1:59:14Speaker 2: With Daniel Jones, is that sustainable? Should they not want
- 1:59:17Speaker 2: to win?
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: Running the ball, get good defense?
- 1:59:21Speaker 2: Hey, you never know when you're going to get an
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: opportunity to make a run.
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: Did we mention that Chase On got his mike literally
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: just well I mentioned it. We didn't really we didn't
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: really spend much time on it. But yeah, he did.
- 1:59:31Speaker 7: The AFC Defensive Player of the Week, first two SAT game,
- 1:59:34Speaker 7: first touchdown. You know, he's excited and I wrote a
- 1:59:38Speaker 7: little bit about it. Just the guy, first round pick,
- 1:59:40Speaker 7: twentieth overall. I mean, he's now a half sack from
- 1:59:43Speaker 7: tying his career high from last year that he set
- 1:59:45Speaker 7: with the Raiders.
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: So it's kind of clicking for him, I think.
- 1:59:47Speaker 7: And he just seems in this defense where they're just
- 1:59:50Speaker 7: asking you go get Seaball, get ball, he's able to
- 1:59:52Speaker 7: use his quickness, his length and now it's been a
- 1:59:55Speaker 7: really good sign.
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: Okay, I don't want to do trade that line stuff.
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: There's a lot of emails about the trade deadline, which
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: is let's see November eight, eight twelve days away, less
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: than two weeks is the trade deadline. So we'll get
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: into that as we get closer. I'm not expecting anything big,
- 2:00:15Speaker 1: are you big? Probably not, But I'm expecting a moving
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: me too, Me too. I'm expecting a running back. Uh
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: henryk from Norway. He says, thank you for always having
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: interesting and fun conversations about the Patriots in the NFL
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: in general, listening to Unfiltered helps us understand so much
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: about football, making us appreciate the sport in more ways
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: than we would otherwise know. At least that's how it
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: is for me. You all do amazing work. If you
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: ever decided to do a podcast seven days a week,
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: that would be great. What do you think seven days
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: a week crazy.
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: I'd be absolutely interested in it for the right price.
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: Hey, everybody's got a price. Have some questions regarding the
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: arm strength and arm talent between quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: Can you please rank the top ten quarterbacks with the
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: strongest arm currently playing in the league? And also can
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: you also rank the top ten quarterbacks with the strongest
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: arm of all time? Wow? And one more, please rank
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: the top ten quarterbacks with best arm of all time?
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: So best versus strong? And he's got his own lists.
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: I don't know do we want to get into this.
- 2:01:26Speaker 2: I can't do this all right?
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: List of So he's got three categories strongest arm. This
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: is now current time, current, all time strongest.
- 2:01:36Speaker 2: I would say Josh Allen strong second, and then.
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: All time with the best arm. So he differentiates best and.
- 2:01:43Speaker 2: So what's his list of top ten current strongest arms?
- 2:01:47Speaker 2: Current current?
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers,
- 2:01:54Speaker 1: Drake may Dak Prescott, Trevor Lawrence Baker, Mayfield, Joe Burrow, KAYLEB.
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: Williams belongs on that list.
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: Hey, Joe Milton has a stronger arm than all of them.
- 2:02:03Speaker 2: It's not a quarterback. Who what's the next list about
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: a quarterback? He's not a starting quarterback.
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: Okay, he didn't say starting quarterback. You have to play
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: to have a strong Okay, all right, all time lists
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: with the strongest arm. John Elway, I.
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: Would agree with that. Brett Farva, I would agree with
- 2:02:19Speaker 2: that too.
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: Jeff Georgia, Oh, greater one, yep, good one. Michael Vick, yeah,
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: Jay Cutler, yeah, Josh Allen Mahomes, Rogers, Marino, yeah.
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: I mean hearts argue with any of the guys on
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: this and Tom Brady, I don't know. Not the strongest arm,
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: but they're good enough arm yep. And then like the
- 2:02:40Speaker 2: best arm Tom Brady.
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: So he's got Tom Brady at top of best arm
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: that he's got, Dan Marino, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning,
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: Drew Brees, John Elway, Brett Farvara, Patrick Mahomes, and Dan Fouts.
- 2:02:57Speaker 2: Yea heart to argue with his name.
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: I want to know definition of best arm because if
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: best arm is accuracy, okay.
- 2:03:04Speaker 2: It's a cop see to me, best arm is a
- 2:03:06Speaker 2: combination of everything like accurate, strong, can make all the
- 2:03:10Speaker 2: throws sculpted. Yeah, like I like I don't like Drew
- 2:03:14Speaker 2: Brees in terms of his accuracy and timing is elite.
- 2:03:18Speaker 2: I don't think he had a great arm, right like,
- 2:03:20Speaker 2: I wouldn't say that he was one of ten arms.
- 2:03:22Speaker 2: Same with Joe min Is his His strength is his
- 2:03:27Speaker 2: mental parts, it's not his arm. Yeah, yeah, timing, I
- 2:03:30Speaker 2: wouldn't put him in the best arm category.
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: Are his accuracy factor into having a great armor?
- 2:03:35Speaker 6: Is that?
- 2:03:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: It does. I think Aaron Rodgers gets into the best
- 2:03:39Speaker 1: arm He's he's near that.
- 2:03:40Speaker 2: For me, he's no way it would be one.
- 2:03:42Speaker 1: But Rogers is hard to argue. What about Slinging Sammy
- 2:03:45Speaker 1: bah I don't forget about him.
- 2:03:47Speaker 2: You speak intelligently on that, Dan Pasterini, No, no, no, no, okay,
- 2:03:54Speaker 2: all right, Dan Pastin.
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: I mean there's some guys back in the day, j Jones, come,
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: Joe namath Is and in the Joe absolutely Bert Jones
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: had a great arm. Yeah, Johnny United, Actually Johnny United
- 2:04:07Speaker 1: didn't have a very good arm.
- 2:04:10Speaker 2: I have never saw Johnny United's play.
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: You know, I'll tell you neither or my time. But
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: you know, Sammy Bob got the name slinging right.
- 2:04:20Speaker 2: Maybe he's the only quarterback in the league that through
- 2:04:22Speaker 2: at the time, Sammy Ball, how long are we going here?
- 2:04:25Speaker 2: I don't know, but I like you giving him a
- 2:04:28Speaker 2: little extra.
- 2:04:28Speaker 7: For the for the f I'm just gonna let a
- 2:04:30Speaker 7: roll see where we ended up.
- 2:04:32Speaker 1: Oh geez, I forgot I didn't even see that. All right,
- 2:04:34Speaker 1: Well that's it. I gotta I gotta meet.
- 2:04:36Speaker 2: That's two forty five.
- 2:04:37Speaker 1: Mike would was a little late, so you know, all right,
- 2:04:41Speaker 1: that's going to be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 2:04:44Speaker 1: We're sending out a search and rescue crew for Evan.
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: We'll see how he's doing. Uh, we'll be back tomorrow
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: on Thursday. Uh, it'll be a hoday, a little bit
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: more on the Browns, any new news. See if the
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: line shifted, you know, between now and then, that'll that'll
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: show little bit what the sharps think and then we'll
- 2:05:03Speaker 1: do our pick. So see you tomorrow.
- 2:05:08Speaker 4: Hey, this is Alex. Thanks for tuning into the show.
