- 0:28everybody, good morning from the Chicken Coop. So
- 0:31today I want to talk to you about something that in
- 0:34my house we refer to as the annoying list. And
- 0:38this is something that came up years ago as a way for
- 0:41us to all communicate what was frustrating to us in
- 0:45the house, whatever that may be, and let everybody
- 0:48else know so that we could handle it. Rather
- 0:50than just having the frustration and containing
- 0:53it all to yourself and keeping it so that you're
- 0:56not talking to anybody about it and you're just
- 0:58getting more and more irritated with things,
- 1:00instead of doing it that way, it's all about sharing
- 1:04it and letting everybody know. And
- 1:06everybody has their annoying things. It
- 1:08doesn't matter if you're a child or you're an adult.
- 1:11Everyone finds things that are
- 1:13annoying to them. When we started this process, as
- 1:16little as my son was at the time, I think he was
- 1:19probably like three when we started this process. He
- 1:23was the first one to say that he wanted to be able
- 1:26to sort his Legos. And I loved that he told me
- 1:30that. He didn't like the fact that
- 1:31all the colors were thrown together and he wanted to
- 1:34be able to sort them out. And
- 1:35because he said that, I was able to go and get a
- 1:39bin from Ikea that had all the colored little slots in
- 1:42it and he could sort them out however he wanted to.
- 1:44Now as a three -year -old, did
- 1:45he really keep them sorted out? No.
- 1:47But he really felt that he needed to. And
- 1:51I loved that we were able to handle that for him.
- 1:54Now my annoying list, that's
- 1:57one of those funny things I think that anything can
- 1:59show up on them. It could be the front door
- 2:01sticks. I don't have enough socks. I
- 2:05need a new pair of shoes. It
- 2:06could be, literally you could put anything on the
- 2:11list if it's frustrating you. For
- 2:13me, one of the ones that showed up often was that I
- 2:16didn't have a headset when my headset burned out. Now
- 2:18as a coach, I mean I can do 50 sessions a week and
- 2:23my headsets burn out quickly. And
- 2:26I say quickly, but it's really, you know, they're
- 2:28just used a lot and I don't use the ones that
- 2:33have batteries. I just use wired ones. So
- 2:35sometimes they just, they take a beating. And
- 2:39why do I not have a stack of them? So
- 2:41that was something that was on my annoying list. Buy
- 2:44a stack of them, you know, find enough of them and
- 2:49put them in your drawer so you have them. Don't
- 2:51just sit there and suffer with the process of having
- 2:54to go buy one every time one burns out. It's
- 2:57unnecessary and it's annoying. So
- 3:00put, the way we do it in our house is we take a
- 3:03piece of paper, we sit down and we say are there
- 3:05things that are frustrating and annoying you right now
- 3:07that we can handle that can go on this list,
- 3:09whatever it might be. And everybody puts it down. And
- 3:13then we use that list on our refrigerator and we
- 3:15say, okay, who's going to take care of this and by
- 3:18what date are they going to take care of it?
- 3:19Because it's important if you're
- 3:20going to put it on the list that you say, this is
- 3:23the date I put it on the list, as well as this is
- 3:26the date I'll take care of it by. Now
- 3:27my husband and I have a joke that says, I can put
- 3:30anything on the annoying list and I can ask him to
- 3:32do it and he can agree to do it, but I can't tell
- 3:35him by when unless it's absolutely, truly urgent
- 3:39that it be taken care of. And
- 3:41then by the end of the month, usually everything is
- 3:44taken care of. And that always could be we
- 3:49laugh about it because I'll say, well, did it get
- 3:51taken care of yet? And I run over and I look
- 3:52because he crosses them off when he gets it done. And
- 3:55I cross mine off when I get it done because there
- 3:57are things that he'll ask that I do as well. And
- 3:59that's okay. It's not, this is not just a
- 4:01one person to do list. This
- 4:03is meant to be for a family. So
- 4:06keep that in mind, work on that piece and create your
- 4:11annoying list because I promise you it will help
- 4:13you and your family.
