- 0:47Speaker 2: and Hockey Network TV host and one to three PM
- 0:50Speaker 2: hosts ninety three three KJRFM. We'll be with us in
- 0:54Speaker 2: just a moment. And about Mason Marchmint, the KRACK and
- 0:57Speaker 2: making a trade. The other night they sent mar Marshment
- 1:00Speaker 2: to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for two draft picks,
- 1:03Speaker 2: a second rounder in twenty twenty seven and a fourth
- 1:06Speaker 2: round pick in twenty twenty six, previously owned by the
- 1:10Speaker 2: New York Rangers. Columbus will take on the entirety of
- 1:14Speaker 2: Marchman's four point five million dollars salary, which will expire
- 1:18Speaker 2: at the end of the season, where he will become
- 1:20Speaker 2: a free agent. KRACK and GM Jason Botterill saying in
- 1:24Speaker 2: a statement, quote, this trade gives us more draft capital
- 1:27Speaker 2: and flexibility as we look to improve our team moving forward.
- 1:32Speaker 3: End quote.
- 1:32Speaker 2: The Kraken originally got Mason Marchman from the Dallas Stars
- 1:36Speaker 2: this past June for a fourth round draft pick in
- 1:38Speaker 2: this previous summer's NHL draft and a fourth round pick
- 1:42Speaker 2: this next summer. March Mint at four goals in nine
- 1:45Speaker 2: as sis in just twenty nine games with the Kraken.
- 1:49Speaker 2: The lineup should look different. Well, how different will it look?
- 1:52Speaker 2: That's a matter of a question. After the Kraken fell
- 1:54Speaker 2: forward two to the Calgary Flames and now look into
- 1:57Speaker 2: I San Jose to end a one nine to one
- 2:01Speaker 2: skid in the previous eleven games. A win would give
- 2:04Speaker 2: the Kraken two wins out of three in the head
- 2:06Speaker 2: to headset against an upstart Sharks team led by Matt Mancelabrini,
- 2:11Speaker 2: Will Smith and much more. The Kraken fell four two
- 2:14Speaker 2: to the Flames, owning a third period lead for the
- 2:17Speaker 2: second straight night, this time only two surrender three unanswered goals,
- 2:21Speaker 2: giving the crack in their second consecutive loss when leading
- 2:24Speaker 2: after two periods this season. Where it leads them and
- 2:28Speaker 2: how do they respond new day? That's what the Cracking
- 2:31Speaker 2: are looking forward to here for game two of the trip.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Last time they're facing the San Jose Sharks this season.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Can you believe it?
- 2:37Speaker 4: In?
- 2:37Speaker 2: A win would give them not just two out of
- 2:40Speaker 2: three against Sant Jose, but really a refreshing approach here
- 2:44Speaker 2: to what has been a rough last eleven games. The
- 2:47Speaker 2: Mayor and Maple Valley here to talk about this with
- 2:49Speaker 2: the c and Forness on the KRACK and Hockey Network
- 2:52Speaker 2: also one to three ninety three three kgur weekdays. Mayor,
- 2:56Speaker 2: I have no else, I have nothing else to say
- 2:59Speaker 2: about this and as far as how we can describe this,
- 3:02Speaker 2: but they're just in one. They're in one second straight
- 3:05Speaker 2: time losing a third period lead.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Now we've talked about the slide.
- 3:09Speaker 2: They've been on here for the last eleven games, losing
- 3:11Speaker 2: Jaden Schwarz, Jared McCann, now Brandon Montor and we can
- 3:16Speaker 2: talk about the implications long term, and there are plenty
- 3:20Speaker 2: short term. This is why I'm looking forward to tonight.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Who responds, how they respond, and even how the lineup looks.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree, I think Mike. The thing is hard
- 3:30Speaker 4: right now is they're just creating new ways to lose
- 3:34Speaker 4: every night, and that's what's hard to be. You know,
- 3:38Speaker 4: Lane said on Wednesday, I guess it was that before
- 3:42Speaker 4: they went up the Calgary You know, he likes the process,
- 3:44Speaker 4: likes where they're at. The results aren't there, and we
- 3:47Speaker 4: all know it's the results based business. It's not college football.
- 3:50Speaker 4: There's no subjective nature do it. No one's voting on
- 3:53Speaker 4: whether or not you're good or not, and you know
- 3:55Speaker 4: ower franking peeps absolutely nothing. So it's about results and
- 4:00Speaker 4: the results aren't there. And every time they make a mistake,
- 4:04Speaker 4: it's in the back of their own net. They make
- 4:06Speaker 4: too many mistakes, so I'm not giving them a path
- 4:08Speaker 4: saying woe is me. It makes being any mistake and
- 4:11Speaker 4: they're like Plane said it after the game in Calgary,
- 4:14Speaker 4: like like there's things we just can't do, and we
- 4:16Speaker 4: keep doing. I don't know what a coach needs to
- 4:18Speaker 4: do to get it to their heads. Now, they're missing guys,
- 4:21Speaker 4: they're missing a lot of offense. They're missing a lot McCann,
- 4:25Speaker 4: Monty and Schwartz out. It's just killer for a team
- 4:29Speaker 4: that doesn't have enough offense. And you know, frankly high
- 4:32Speaker 4: end talent as it.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Is, so it's hard.
- 4:35Speaker 4: But you got to find a way because nobody cares
- 4:37Speaker 4: in this league. Nobody cares, nobody cares about you. You've
- 4:40Speaker 4: got to find a way. But yeah, they got three
- 4:43Speaker 4: games before the break. I you know, win two of
- 4:46Speaker 4: the three, and you feel okay going in the break.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And then and then let's see what happens. Let's see
- 4:51Speaker 4: if bos gets creative, Let's see if they do some things,
- 4:54Speaker 4: check some things up, expiring contracts. I don't think the
- 4:58Speaker 4: season is lost by any stretch. Might e, but they
- 5:00Speaker 4: got to do something because what they have right now,
- 5:03Speaker 4: flat out is not working.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Forgot about that point last year when they had to
- 5:05Speaker 2: really shake things up with getting Compo Cocko in. I
- 5:09Speaker 2: think we're at this point now where you know you're
- 5:11Speaker 2: running out of options based on what you've done over
- 5:14Speaker 2: the last nine, ten eleven games, and you hinted at this.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Here's more. With Lane Lambert meeting with the media the
- 5:22Speaker 3: other night, Lane Compo.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Mentioned that maybe some of the guys were so afraid
- 5:27Speaker 4: the Bates face and a third period protecting the football
- 5:30Speaker 4: leads you.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think that's ridiculous.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think we needed to get on the fore check.
- 5:36Speaker 3: We talked about Stan on our toes, you know, so
- 5:40Speaker 3: if that's what's going on.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Then it has to change. What do you need from
- 5:45Speaker 1: from the packs? More detail? More detail in certain areas
- 5:51Speaker 1: that are game changers. You know.
- 5:53Speaker 2: We cannot turn the puck over entering the blue line
- 5:57Speaker 2: on their third goal.
- 5:59Speaker 3: It just can't happen. And we keep doing these things
- 6:02Speaker 3: over and over again, and it's getting old and we've
- 6:06Speaker 3: got to figure this out.
- 6:08Speaker 2: His voice is pretty firm, and I think he set
- 6:11Speaker 2: the tone pretty well after the media spoke with Coppocco
- 6:14Speaker 2: and now we get this and so ed, now this
- 6:16Speaker 2: is getting I think down a morale because this is
- 6:19Speaker 2: pull your booststraps up territory. This is not just here
- 6:23Speaker 2: for the short term talk of where things are right
- 6:25Speaker 2: now in the standings, and it's going to be a
- 6:27Speaker 2: tough climb out of the seven point gap right now.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But this is him trying to reinforce the foundation of
- 6:32Speaker 2: what this team is supposed to be all about.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah, and let me just if I can just jump
- 6:38Speaker 4: on a soapbox for a second, if I could. Yeah,
- 6:42Speaker 4: this is not a Lane Lambert problem. This is not
- 6:45Speaker 4: a Lane Lambert problem. This is not a coaching staff
- 6:50Speaker 4: Lane Lambert, and I would say specifically Chris Taylor and
- 6:53Speaker 4: you know what, the penalty kill has been better. They
- 6:55Speaker 4: gave up the one on Thursday, but you know she
- 6:58Speaker 4: clothed and Taylor and Lane, that's this is not them.
- 7:02Speaker 4: This is a roster construction along with some bad luck
- 7:06Speaker 4: with injuries, problems, guys not developing better, guys not getting it,
- 7:11Speaker 4: mental mistakes, just brain dead to be honest with your
- 7:16Speaker 4: brain dead mistakes. The Blue Liners. Lane just mentioned he's
- 7:19Speaker 4: dead it. He's turned brain dead idea. So that's what
- 7:22Speaker 4: he said. This is not a Laine Lambert problem. And
- 7:25Speaker 4: for those that are screaming and yelling off coaches issue,
- 7:28Speaker 4: and maybe they need to, they're not making a coaching change,
- 7:32Speaker 4: nor should they make a coaching change.
- 7:34Speaker 3: They've done this down twice in the last two years.
- 7:36Speaker 3: There is no rhyme to do this. None none, no, Ke.
- 7:41Speaker 4: And listen, captain, you know this. This is not a
- 7:45Speaker 4: lay problem. This is whether you maybe it's roster construction
- 7:49Speaker 4: and if that's part of it, but I think part
- 7:52Speaker 4: of it is just guys aren't getting it, and guys
- 7:55Speaker 4: are making mistakes and guys aren't playing up to their abilities.
- 8:00Speaker 4: I'll be honest with you, I don't know where in
- 8:03Speaker 4: the world the Veneer's line was on Thursday that like, yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 4: thing was, you're like nonexistent And I'm sorry, Maddie and
- 8:12Speaker 4: as in company, you guys have to be great. You
- 8:16Speaker 4: have to be the best line every night. If you're
- 8:18Speaker 4: not the best line, you better be the second best line.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Non existence, no show the Shane right, comple Coco Yanni
- 8:24Speaker 4: Newman line. Really probably make the argument for the last
- 8:27Speaker 4: two games, has been your best line? Most impactful?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Uh?
- 8:30Speaker 3: You know I who's been going to the front of
- 8:32Speaker 3: the net more. It's a very very very very easy answer, right, And.
- 8:36Speaker 4: I'll say this Coppocco and uh and and Yanni Newman listen,
- 8:42Speaker 4: they'll make a mistake here or there. I you just
- 8:45Speaker 4: got to play the hell out of those guys and
- 8:46Speaker 4: let him get through it. Uh, they're still really players, Shane,
- 8:50Speaker 4: really young player. Chandler Stevenson's got a seventeen point three
- 8:54Speaker 4: goals and three straight. I'm not pointing a finger at him.
- 8:57Speaker 4: There's other guys that are and Lane use this term
- 9:00Speaker 4: a few weeks ago. There are passengers out there. Move them,
- 9:03Speaker 4: get them out, do something, because frankly, you're a really
- 9:08Speaker 4: critical spot right now. This fan base, this fan base
- 9:12Speaker 4: a deserves better ownership, deserves better front office in terms
- 9:17Speaker 4: of those selling tickets that advertised you. They deserve better
- 9:22Speaker 4: from the product on the ice. The hockey team right now,
- 9:24Speaker 4: they've got to be better. And there's no excuse. There
- 9:28Speaker 4: is no excuse for this particular team to be what
- 9:32Speaker 4: is it, one nine and one of their last eleven
- 9:34Speaker 4: and without a regulation win in the month of December, Like,
- 9:38Speaker 4: there's no excuse for that. And there's some guys got
- 9:41Speaker 4: to look there, looked in the mirror. I just it's
- 9:44Speaker 4: it's really hard to watch. And then you know bad
- 9:46Speaker 4: penalties like eleven shots of the forty six I think
- 9:51Speaker 4: it was right, forty six shots on on Thursday. Eleven
- 9:55Speaker 4: of those came on the power play the thirty second
- 9:59Speaker 4: power play the NHL as bad as that power play is, statistically,
- 10:04Speaker 4: you give them four chances they're going to score. At
- 10:06Speaker 4: some point they are five chances, and that's what they did.
- 10:09Speaker 4: They finally scored on their on their fifth opportunity, and
- 10:11Speaker 4: on their eleventh and final power play shot, they scored
- 10:14Speaker 4: a goal. Like there's just so many things that and
- 10:19Speaker 4: I can feel the frustration with laying because I feel it.
- 10:22Speaker 4: You feel it. Every fan feels it, banging your head
- 10:24Speaker 4: against the wall, going what in the world are you
- 10:27Speaker 4: guys doing right now? And what are you doing to
- 10:30Speaker 4: get out of this pump? What are you doing to
- 10:33Speaker 4: make sure that this team doesn't spiral out of playoff
- 10:36Speaker 4: contention by the middle of January? What are you doing
- 10:40Speaker 4: to help the cause right now? There's too many guys
- 10:43Speaker 4: that aren't doing enough.
- 10:44Speaker 3: By the way, you want to throw this in here.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Also, as far as who's been doing something, I should
- 10:50Speaker 2: say the Cracking had twenty four hits the other night.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Nearly half of them came from this line.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Ian Ty Krcier, Ben Meyers, Jakob Malanson and malansons what
- 11:00Speaker 2: seven hits as well? There's a guy who wants to
- 11:03Speaker 2: keep staying in the lineup and make a difference.
- 11:06Speaker 4: I play I play him every night, I play them
- 11:08Speaker 4: every single night. I mean, he hits everything in sight.
- 11:12Speaker 4: He's hard to play against. Lane's mentioned that a few times.
- 11:15Speaker 4: We gotta be hard to play against. Well, the hardest
- 11:18Speaker 4: guy to play against is the guy that's gonna like,
- 11:20Speaker 4: you know, you're gonna take his number and look where
- 11:22Speaker 4: he's better every time he's on the ice. You know
- 11:24Speaker 4: he's listen. The fourth line is not the problem. And
- 11:29Speaker 4: whether it's those three or if you want to insert,
- 11:32Speaker 4: you know, I think Winterton's no better than I think
- 11:35Speaker 4: he's a fourth liner for being honest with the like
- 11:37Speaker 4: when he has to move up and when he has
- 11:39Speaker 4: to move up and get top nine or whatever minutes,
- 11:44Speaker 4: that's that's not good. You know, that's just isn't That's
- 11:47Speaker 4: not a guy that the top nine guy. He's a
- 11:49Speaker 4: fourth piner and a good fourth pliner, get penalty killer.
- 11:51Speaker 4: But let's just take that fourth line and out of
- 11:53Speaker 4: fourth and winter Kit. Those guys give you what you want.
- 11:56Speaker 4: They give you what you need for for who they are.
- 11:59Speaker 4: But we shouldn't talk about like no team in the
- 12:02Speaker 4: league talks about the fourth line more than this. None
- 12:06Speaker 4: nobody talks about the fourth one we do in this
- 12:09Speaker 4: in Seattle because that's our only highlight some night is
- 12:13Speaker 4: a fourth line that goes out there as hard to play.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Again, those have strong implications, man, right, yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just one of those. Let me just give
- 12:20Speaker 4: another a couple other shoutouts real quick. I don't think
- 12:23Speaker 4: for the most part, there's a couple of guys that
- 12:25Speaker 4: you could say, maybe you're having it down yere, you're
- 12:27Speaker 4: not maybe doing or developing what we want. But like
- 12:32Speaker 4: I thought, the last two or three games, Genie like
- 12:35Speaker 4: he actually been really good, Like I think he's gonna
- 12:38Speaker 4: I think he's really kind of taking a step. And
- 12:40Speaker 4: I don't know what it is. He's playing more physically,
- 12:42Speaker 4: he's playing bigger, goes to well.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Fourheads to take away two block shots. Also the block
- 12:48Speaker 2: shot big rig is what we saw in the playoffs
- 12:50Speaker 2: back in twenty twenty three, and it goes to the
- 12:52Speaker 2: net like he does.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I like.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I like it.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Ryan ling Gren gives you everything every single fifty five.
- 13:01Speaker 4: You know what you're gonna get. That's a great stay
- 13:03Speaker 4: at home boom defenseman. I know there's underlying numbers that
- 13:06Speaker 4: don't like him. Watch the damn game and you tell
- 13:08Speaker 4: me the Ryan Langran doesn't help you as a hockey team,
- 13:11Speaker 4: make a difference to the defensive zone. Those guys help you.
- 13:14Speaker 4: You know what twenty nine is gonna give you every night.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And that's just showed restraint Thursday, like thought he was
- 13:20Speaker 4: going to kill what's his face with a humidor right
- 13:23Speaker 4: like I thought he was going to kill him. And
- 13:25Speaker 4: you know he's got that assassined look on his face.
- 13:27Speaker 4: And he didn't like he didn't he knew like, no,
- 13:30Speaker 4: mon tour, I can't do this. I can't go off
- 13:33Speaker 4: for five minutes and Calgary and anybody wearing a red
- 13:36Speaker 4: jersey I want to absolutely assassinate. I get that, But
- 13:39Speaker 4: he didn't. And gins gives you what he's got every night,
- 13:41Speaker 4: and you love his game. I just and Josh for
- 13:45Speaker 4: her Holy smoked. I mean your goaltenders and your deed
- 13:48Speaker 4: for the most part, giving you a chance to win
- 13:50Speaker 4: every night. Where are the top six? Where are the
- 13:53Speaker 4: top nine? It's that simple. And sometimes what they're doing
- 13:56Speaker 4: is they're helping the other team.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I e.
- 13:58Speaker 4: What we saw the other day was a turnover. Uh
- 14:00Speaker 4: and they caught you the game winning.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Goal after Joey the Cord put up I thought one
- 14:05Speaker 2: of the great performances of this season, and he had
- 14:07Speaker 2: to stop anything that moved the other night. I don't
- 14:11Speaker 2: know if you look toward him or Philip Grubauer against
- 14:14Speaker 2: San Jose, but they're going to have their hands full
- 14:17Speaker 2: here handling Macklin celebrity because they come off what are
- 14:20Speaker 2: their more thrilling wins in franchise history.
- 14:23Speaker 3: There has been.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Taught that the auror has been restored right back at
- 14:27Speaker 2: the Shark tank, and they control the cut line here
- 14:29Speaker 2: in the Western Conference. So I mean we keep sitting
- 14:32Speaker 2: in big game, big game, big game. Well, I mean
- 14:34Speaker 2: you want to get your morales well back on the tracks,
- 14:37Speaker 2: Let alone the record, go in, rip off two points
- 14:40Speaker 2: in regulation in San Jose and show that this is
- 14:42Speaker 2: all behind you.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I don't tell you why that you just
- 14:45Speaker 4: keep doing what you're doing. I mean the rotation spine,
- 14:48Speaker 4: you know, like they just back and forth with those
- 14:50Speaker 4: two guys that Bill, I mean, I you know one
- 14:53Speaker 4: guy's I mean, you know, Joey's had a couple of
- 14:55Speaker 4: nights to Senery's been pulled. Uh, Ruby's been fantastic and
- 14:59Speaker 4: de terms the play. I mean, I I'd go back.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I mean, you're gonna play both of them Monday Tuesday, anyway,
- 15:04Speaker 4: so may I probably go. You probably go groovy Joey
- 15:08Speaker 4: Grooby to finish it off, right, I would think. But
- 15:11Speaker 4: you know, that's again the easiest, the hardest problem you
- 15:16Speaker 4: have right now in the sense is who do you
- 15:18Speaker 4: go with that both guys have been good. Uh, it's
- 15:21Speaker 4: it's again. It's it's really a simple issue like mental mistakes,
- 15:24Speaker 4: mental airs, and it's inability to score goals. I mean,
- 15:26Speaker 4: they score two goals against against Calgary. You should have
- 15:29Speaker 4: scored more. Calgary is a high event team. They generate,
- 15:32Speaker 4: whether's the fourth or fifth most shots in the league.
- 15:35Speaker 4: You can get and then you know you can get
- 15:37Speaker 4: a little bit more to track meet with them, you know.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I mean, I thought Seattle was really good the second
- 15:42Speaker 4: period Thursday and they take a two to one lead.
- 15:44Speaker 4: You're feeling good about yourself and I how you blow
- 15:48Speaker 4: a third period lead? Well, you saw the blueprint for it,
- 15:51Speaker 4: that turnover and then an MPN goal and I think
- 15:53Speaker 4: that's now the seventh goal just to this last ten games.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Like so, there's a lot of games that are stewed
- 15:59Speaker 4: point or score. But I just want tell those other
- 16:06Speaker 4: guys come back healthy. You've got to find a way
- 16:10Speaker 4: to keep this thing at least somewhat above water. And
- 16:13Speaker 4: right now they're not able to do that.
- 16:14Speaker 2: And they're facing San Jose who is seven points ahead
- 16:17Speaker 2: Maclin celebrity right now in contention for the scoring lead
- 16:20Speaker 2: of just nineteen years of age and showing that he's
- 16:22Speaker 2: already reaching super superstar tier status here in the NHL.
- 16:27Speaker 3: The goalid thing is going to be interesting.
