Latest / The Mark Simone Show / Mark's Weekend Bonus Segment — NOT HEARD ON THE RADIO!
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's Mark Simone. This is the bonus segment for
- 0:03Speaker 1: all you podcast listeners out there. We like to give
- 0:05Speaker 1: you a little extra show every week. So the Lindsay
- 0:10Speaker 1: Clancy case, what's the latest? Well, the lawyer, this guy's
- 0:14Speaker 1: going to be on, you're going to see him all
- 0:15Speaker 1: over television. He's on any show he can do. He's
- 0:19Speaker 1: campaigning because, you know, Now the prosecutor has to decide
- 0:25Speaker 1: whether to prosecute again, whether to bring the case back
- 0:29Speaker 1: and try again. If you're the prosecutor, you can see
- 0:33Speaker 1: it's a difficult case. So it's just a 50-50 decision.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So that's why this lawyer is all over television, all
- 0:42Speaker 1: over radio, all over social media trying to get them
- 0:44Speaker 1: to drop the case. He's making a new plea to
- 0:47Speaker 1: save her from retrial. He keeps making the point no
- 0:51Speaker 1: rational jury could convict her. You know, it's the only
- 0:56Speaker 1: other thing going on, which they don't really talk about.
- 0:58Speaker 1: This Lindsay Clancy in the middle of all this is
- 1:02Speaker 1: suing the doctors, the hospitals that treated her, looking for
- 1:05Speaker 1: a multimillion-dollar settlement. She's got all kinds of lawsuits going.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Even her husband, Patrick Clancy, also has lawsuits pending against
- 1:15Speaker 1: all these providers, these hospitals, these doctors. These are the
- 1:18Speaker 1: ones that treated her for many months before the murders.
- 1:22Speaker 1: These are the ones that put her on all different
- 1:24Speaker 1: kinds of drugs and medications. And they didn't properly diagnose her. Now,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I don't know if that justifies killing your kids. But,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you know, one thing about those psychotropic medications they put
- 1:37Speaker 1: you on, if you read the little fine print there,
- 1:40Speaker 1: under side effects, it says could cause homicidal behavior, maniacal behavior,
- 1:45Speaker 1: suicidal behavior. So with that fine print, who knows what
- 1:48Speaker 1: kind of chance she has at a lawsuit or a settlement.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So in the middle of trying not to go to jail,
- 1:54Speaker 1: she's also busy trying to make a fortune off this.
- 1:58Speaker 1: If I were the prosecutors, I'd push that a little more, too,
- 2:01Speaker 1: because the problem is there's so much sympathy for her.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But the fact that she's trying to cash in on this.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So this week, the new iPhone was unveiled. iPhone Pro
- 2:13Speaker 1: 18 Max. This is the great one. But there's also
- 2:16Speaker 1: this thing called the Duo. It's the foldable one that
- 2:18Speaker 1: unfolds into a much bigger screen. I'm not too crazy
- 2:22Speaker 1: about it. But Samsung, you know, Android has had foldable
- 2:26Speaker 1: phones for a couple of years now. So apparently they've
- 2:28Speaker 1: been mocking Apple, taking out all kinds of ads to
- 2:32Speaker 1: make fun of Apple, saying, thank you for taking our leftovers.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It's Apple reheating our leftovers. Yeah, but the thing is,
- 2:43Speaker 1: for years, Apple... It didn't, you know, they invented some
- 2:47Speaker 1: things like the iPod and all this, but there are
- 2:49Speaker 1: a lot of things that already existed and Apple just
- 2:51Speaker 1: figured out a way to make them a hundred times better.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And before the iPhone, there was the Palm Trio. You
- 2:57Speaker 1: could get your email on there. But it was just,
- 3:02Speaker 1: you know, that was the phone, the smartphone, the Palm Trio.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Remember that thing with 5,000 buttons on the front and
- 3:08Speaker 1: a little screen? And it wasn't video. It was more
- 3:11Speaker 1: like Etch-a-Sketch quality on that screen. So it was Apple
- 3:15Speaker 1: that figured out how to make a smartphone that was
- 3:17Speaker 1: like a thousand light years better. And that's what they
- 3:21Speaker 1: do with everything. You know, one thing about that Samsung
- 3:23Speaker 1: foldable phone, when you unfold it, you can kind of
- 3:25Speaker 1: see the seams down the middle there. So they figured
- 3:28Speaker 1: out how to make it seamless, make it look better.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'd still stick to the regular iPhone 18 Pro. Jon
- 3:35Speaker 1: Stewart attacking Democrats. Well, good for him. You know, Jon Stewart,
- 3:39Speaker 1: he does a show, The Daily Show. He does the podcast.
- 3:43Speaker 1: saying many of these Democrats turned down his show. They're afraid.
- 3:47Speaker 1: But Jon Stewart's a left-wing Democrat. What'd you be afraid of? Well,
- 3:50Speaker 1: he does tough interviews. He asks the tough questions. So
- 3:54Speaker 1: they're afraid to go on the show. Bill Maher said
- 3:56Speaker 1: the same thing. All the top Democrats don't do a show,
- 4:00Speaker 1: even though Maher's a big Democrat. They're afraid of any
- 4:03Speaker 1: tough questions. Hey, Jimmy Kimmel, this guy, what a, he
- 4:08Speaker 1: should just wear diapers and sit in a high chair.
- 4:10Speaker 1: He was just a whining Democrat. baby. So now he's
- 4:13Speaker 1: yelling and screaming about the candidate in Texas, the Democratic candidate, Tallarico.
- 4:20Speaker 1: He did an interview and he was going to air
- 4:21Speaker 1: it on his show because this is what they do
- 4:23Speaker 1: on this Jimmy Kimmel show. They promote Democrats. They campaign
- 4:27Speaker 1: actively for Democrats. And the FCC has an equal time thing.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It's never really been enforced over the last few years,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and certainly not for talk shows. But they started to
- 4:37Speaker 1: crack down on him. So He decided, ABC decided, rather
- 4:42Speaker 1: than have FCC trouble, they would not air the Tallarico interview.
- 4:47Speaker 1: They'll put it on YouTube because the FCC has no
- 4:50Speaker 1: control over YouTube. So it'll air only on YouTube, not
- 4:54Speaker 1: on the air. So now he's whining about it. This
- 4:57Speaker 1: is the worst, most dangerous form of cancel culture. Look
- 5:00Speaker 1: how they've got this interview blackballed. We can't air it.
- 5:05Speaker 1: They're cancel culture. Well, the truth is, He can air
- 5:08Speaker 1: it all he wants. What the FCC is saying, what
- 5:11Speaker 1: logic and common sense also say, is you can have
- 5:14Speaker 1: the Democratic candidate on. Just make sure you have the
- 5:17Speaker 1: Republican candidate on, too. This is Ken Paxton, who's kind
- 5:21Speaker 1: of a colorful guy. He'd actually be a better guest,
- 5:24Speaker 1: talk show-wise. But that's the problem. Jimmy Kimmel and all
- 5:29Speaker 1: these left-wing kook shows can't seem to figure this out.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It's not that you can't air your interview. You can't
- 5:36Speaker 1: be so biased, so one-sided. If there's a big race
- 5:40Speaker 1: in Texas you're going to have the candidate on, have
- 5:42Speaker 1: the other candidate on. It's only fair. But it shows
- 5:45Speaker 1: you how biased Kimmel is. He will not have a
- 5:48Speaker 1: Republican candidate on the show. He's actively trying to get
- 5:53Speaker 1: this guy elected, Tallarico, and he's actively trying to take
- 5:57Speaker 1: down the Republican candidate. He will not do the interview
- 6:00Speaker 1: with him. Absolutely ridiculous. Hey, so Starbucks, you remember when
- 6:05Speaker 1: Starbucks first got big? It was so big. When you
- 6:08Speaker 1: thought high-end coffee, but Starbucks, and that was it. That
- 6:13Speaker 1: was it. And you remember they called it, who was
- 6:17Speaker 1: the guy that ran Starbucks? Howard Schultz. Remember he called
- 6:19Speaker 1: it the third place. In other words, you had home,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you had work, and you had Starbucks where you'd hang
- 6:25Speaker 1: out all day. And they wanted you to. Remember they
- 6:28Speaker 1: had people in their laptops? These nerdy-looking laptop people would
- 6:32Speaker 1: sit there all day in Starbucks, and they liked that. Well,
- 6:36Speaker 1: that all changed in the pandemic. You couldn't sit in there,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and they stripped them all down. They got rid of
- 6:41Speaker 1: all that chairs and couches and all that stuff, and
- 6:44Speaker 1: it was just get your coffee and get the hell
- 6:46Speaker 1: out of here. Here's your coffee. Get out of here,
- 6:48Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. But, you know, in the years
- 6:50Speaker 1: since the pandemic, there's a lot of big coffee places
- 6:53Speaker 1: that have sprung up. Great change. There's this one over
- 6:56Speaker 1: there called Blank Coffee. There's a bunch of them. that
- 7:00Speaker 1: seem to have much better coffee than Starbucks and much
- 7:03Speaker 1: bigger lines. And then there's Gregory's Coffee that's pretty good.
- 7:07Speaker 1: That's a chain all over the tri-state area. Guy from Connecticut.
- 7:10Speaker 1: These two guys in Long Island created a coffee place
- 7:16Speaker 1: called 4FOR, 4-5. The first one, Garden City, is the
- 7:21Speaker 1: most incredible coffee shop in America. They got another one
- 7:24Speaker 1: in Port Washington, Manassas. And now they're going all over
- 7:27Speaker 1: the country. I think they got 20 of them. Boston, Washington,
- 7:30Speaker 1: they'll be all over the place. Much better than Starbucks.
- 7:33Speaker 1: They make their own coffee. Food is incredible. Much better
- 7:38Speaker 1: than Starbucks. So there's a bunch of these. So Starbucks
- 7:41Speaker 1: is going to have to do something to get back
- 7:42Speaker 1: in the game. And what they're doing, they just spent
- 7:46Speaker 1: $ 1 billion. No, not on food, not on coffee. $ 1
- 7:52Speaker 1: billion on comfy armchairs and plants. And books, hardcover books,
- 7:59Speaker 1: they're going to decorate the Starbucks to make them look
- 8:01Speaker 1: like a very comfortable living room. There'll be comfy armchairs
- 8:06Speaker 1: with plants and bookcases and books. So 1,000 of these
- 8:11Speaker 1: stores are going to be renovated. In fact, they've already
- 8:14Speaker 1: done 1,000. They're going to do 9,000 more. The new CEO,
- 8:18Speaker 1: Brian Cole, wants to turn them into the cafes, into
- 8:23Speaker 1: an oasis for the lonely and disconnected. There'll be rugs.
- 8:27Speaker 1: There'll be ceramics. There'll be houseplants. There'll be colorful paintings.
- 8:31Speaker 1: There'll be curtains and mirrors. This sounds more like a
- 8:34Speaker 1: bordello than a coffee shop. I don't know what this
- 8:39Speaker 1: guy's thinking. But he thinks that everybody is so disconnected
- 8:42Speaker 1: because everybody's online. They work at home. They work remote.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Even when it comes to meeting and men and women meeting,
- 8:51Speaker 1: they do it online on those apps. They don't do
- 8:53Speaker 1: that in person. They do nothing in person. So this
- 8:56Speaker 1: is going to be the place where you'll meet people. Now, again,
- 9:00Speaker 1: who sits around a Starbucks all day? Generally a nerdy
- 9:03Speaker 1: looking guy on a laptop. So if you want to
- 9:05Speaker 1: meet him, it'll be there. So I would also think
- 9:10Speaker 1: it's not a good business model to get people to
- 9:13Speaker 1: stay there for 12 hours with one cup of coffee.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I mean, is it really that profitable? But we'll see. Hey,
- 9:20Speaker 1: the Flintstones... is coming back a brand new movie of
- 9:24Speaker 1: the Flintstones, Warner Brothers working on it, the great producer,
- 9:27Speaker 1: Ryan Gosling. It'll be a live action movie. You see,
- 9:31Speaker 1: the whole point of the Flintstones was to make it
- 9:33Speaker 1: a cartoon. It doesn't work as a live action movie.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's the Fred Flintstone cartoon. And they made like three seasons,
- 9:40Speaker 1: four seasons. There's hundreds of Flintstones episodes. You don't really
- 9:44Speaker 1: need any more. The property started as an ABC cartoon.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Of course, in 1994, it was a live action movie. hit,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and it was a hit. It starred John Goodman and
- 9:55Speaker 1: Rick Moranis, so expect the Flintstones movie coming out, what
- 9:59Speaker 1: is it, probably next year, early next year. And then,
- 10:02Speaker 1: of course, yes, you'll see a Jetsons movie as a follow-up.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I'm sure that'll be next, and it'll just never stop.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So you remember the show Charlie's Angels? They're mostly still around.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Farrah Fawcett no longer with us. Jacqueline Smith is still
- 10:18Speaker 1: with us. And still very beautiful. But she was doing
- 10:24Speaker 1: one of these podcasts. See, the thing with the podcast,
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's not a seven-minute interview like a talk show. It's
- 10:30Speaker 1: you got to talk for an hour. And when you're
- 10:32Speaker 1: talking for an hour, things come out. So she was
- 10:35Speaker 1: talking about Charlie's Angels, about the set. She's 80 now,
- 10:39Speaker 1: Jacqueline Smith, but she still looks great. And she said
- 10:44Speaker 1: there was nothing but trouble there. She's talking about Kate Jackson.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Remember Kate Jackson? who was very good, but she said
- 10:51Speaker 1: sometimes she'd fly into a rage or something. She said
- 10:55Speaker 1: one time she'd drive, you know, they all have big
- 10:57Speaker 1: motorhomes on the set. The motorhome is like your dressing room,
- 11:01Speaker 1: your trailer. One time Smith got so mad, she jumped
- 11:04Speaker 1: into the driver's seat of the motorhome and drove it
- 11:07Speaker 1: in circles all over the lot, driving everybody crazy. And
- 11:10Speaker 1: the union guys that run all that, the Teamsters went nuts.
- 11:14Speaker 1: She also talked about a time where Kate Jackson got
- 11:17Speaker 1: annoyed about Jacqueline Smith And about Farrah Fawcett, something about
- 11:23Speaker 1: they had to miss their lunch break for a photo shoot.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So apparently Jackson locked all three of them in their trailer.
- 11:30Speaker 1: There was no way to get them out. They didn't
- 11:31Speaker 1: have the keys. The same crew, the Teamsters, had to
- 11:34Speaker 1: look for tools and take the door off to get
- 11:36Speaker 1: her out. All right, this is not the worst stuff.
- 11:38Speaker 1: This is supposed to be shocking. She also said Jackson
- 11:42Speaker 1: would shout every four-letter word in the book at the
- 11:46Speaker 1: top of her lungs. All right. Again, you go on
- 11:50Speaker 1: any set, any TV studio, any radio studio, at different
- 11:55Speaker 1: times you'll hear a host yelling and cursing. It happens
- 11:57Speaker 1: all the time. Remember that O'Reilly clip where he's yelling
- 12:00Speaker 1: at the guy? That's perfectly normal. That's every host at
- 12:03Speaker 1: one point or another. You name the host, I've seen
- 12:06Speaker 1: them lose their temper and start yelling. It happens all
- 12:10Speaker 1: the time. But she does say, now this is interesting
- 12:13Speaker 1: about the Charlie's Angels set, she does say, People were
- 12:17Speaker 1: doing drugs all over the set, in particular cocaine. It
- 12:21Speaker 1: was all over the place there. Hmm. All right. So
- 12:26Speaker 1: those Charlie's Angels weren't quite the angels you thought they were. Hey,
- 12:29Speaker 1: you know, if you live in a condo or a community,
- 12:32Speaker 1: gated community, there's a homeowners association. There's a board of directors.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It's always annoying with their little rules, and they're yelling,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you can't put this plant here. You can't put that welcome.
- 12:44Speaker 1: You know, they give you a hard time, but everything.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So the richest community in the world is Indian Creek.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's a little island right off Miami. Houses start at
- 12:52Speaker 1: like 100 million. It's called the billionaire bunker because it's
- 12:56Speaker 1: where Jeff Bezos lives. It's where Zuckerberg lives. It's only
- 13:00Speaker 1: a handful of houses. But apparently you get a 103-page
- 13:04Speaker 1: book from the Homeowners Association that tells you everything. It
- 13:08Speaker 1: tells you exactly how many inches your grass has to be.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Can't grow past six inches. Building coverage can only be 25%
- 13:16Speaker 1: of your lot. They tell you exactly what your pool
- 13:19Speaker 1: has to look like, your tennis court. Your residence has
- 13:22Speaker 1: to be 100 feet back from the bay. Fences and
- 13:26Speaker 1: walls must be no higher than 7 feet. They have
- 13:31Speaker 1: to be at least 10 feet from the property line.
- 13:34Speaker 1: And you're not allowed to build a wall. This goes
- 13:37Speaker 1: on and on. So, see, it doesn't matter where you live.
- 13:39Speaker 1: This is the richest place you could live in all
- 13:41Speaker 1: of America. And even then, Homeowners Association, a board to
- 13:47Speaker 1: drive you nuts. Hey, this has been the bonus edition
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the podcast. Mark Simone here. Thanks for listening. I'll
- 13:53Speaker 1: see you Monday. Thanks a lot.
