Transcript
- 0:51Do you know what time it is? It's time for another week
- 0:55living there. Weekly ritual ghost cult mags,
- 0:59rocket metal News Live stream. I have had a day my friends out
- 1:03there I have had a day. So I have the no effects chicken
- 1:07supporting ME3 clocks for the cucks out there Holy cow what a
- 1:13day. I technical difficulties one
- 1:16thing at 1 battle after another literally.
- 1:20But I'm glad to be back. This is our first weekly ritual
- 1:23of the new year. The engine compound has arrived.
- 1:29What a day man. But.
- 1:31Just a quick. Public service announcement and
- 1:33I will probably make multiple mentions of this.
- 1:38We launched a new channel on YouTube called at Ghost cult
- 1:42live just for these lives. This is we're trying something
- 1:45out where we did our research. Cube is here.
- 1:48What's up cube love you brother. I told you TV Yeah, yeah.
- 1:54We are moving our lives to a new live channel just for YouTube.
- 2:00Our main channel will still be the home for videos, interviews,
- 2:03unboxings. I still have a bunch of 2025
- 2:06content to run in terms of, you know, best stubs and my personal
- 2:1025 or 50 or 70 records of the year.
- 2:14And I'm going to do a couple this coming week.
- 2:16So just moving people over from the channel that has 6000 plus
- 2:22viewers, which I'm grateful for to, you know, moving all the way
- 2:29over. To, you know, a channel with
- 2:31six. So if you can go follow at Ghost
- 2:34Cult live on YouTube, that would mean a lot to me because we're
- 2:37going to try to grow that. We, I've been saying for a
- 2:39while, we're going to launch memberships on the channel.
- 2:42So that Channel still has to get monetized, but there are ways
- 2:45for us to give private content to pay, you know.
- 2:49Subscribers. I think it's possible so.
- 2:53Dillinger, I told you, Kefi, and I wouldn't believe you.
- 2:55I did believe you. I know.
- 2:57I do believe you. And I know what that's about.
- 3:00And you know, we're going to, we're going to wait and see.
- 3:03But like, again, I can't afford to cast aspersions.
- 3:09I have relationships to maintain.
- 3:11If shitty people are shitty, we're going to talk about it.
- 3:14If people we look up to are, you know, our heroes are unheroic,
- 3:19we're going to talk all about it.
- 3:20I was opposed to this back at the original Me Too movement, my
- 3:26partner. At those called, Omar Cordy was
- 3:28like, hey, what if? That Maynard stuff is true and I
- 3:31was like, I'm going to be heartbroken, he told on himself
- 3:36in his book. But also he's less sketchy and
- 3:39horrible than probably everybody else.
- 3:41Anyway, Rob Mirko is here. We're also hanging out on
- 3:44TikTok. The best experience for this
- 3:46show is always YouTube. And as I said, we have a new
- 3:48YouTube channel at Ghost Cult man at Ghost Cult Live, which
- 3:52eventually I hope will become the home for all our live
- 3:55streams and also Twitch, Facebook, Instagrams, my
- 4:01personal one and the Ghost Cult 1.
- 4:03So come one, come on, you know, come one, come all.
- 4:07Thumb is the operative word. I need to wet my whistle.
- 4:09I'm exhausted. I didn't sleep too well.
- 4:10I had a busy day. Therapy today, work meeting
- 4:15today. A lot, a lot of high stress
- 4:18things going on. But thanks.
- 4:19Shout out to my partner Melissa. For being there for me and
- 4:22getting me through. I have a convicted melon liquid
- 4:27death and we'll see how many of these I have left.
- 4:28Maybe like about 15? When they're gone, they're gone.
- 4:36Thanks to everybody who's watching.
- 4:37Mostly still on the original Ghost Cult Mag channel.
- 4:40That's fine. I expect that I'll shout it out
- 4:43soon enough. And as usual, we start this show
- 4:48with the announcements. It's usually the bad news 1st
- 4:51and then the rest of the good news.
- 4:53Let's just walk. Down memory lane a little bit.
- 4:55I wouldn't begin the screen. You guys want to talk and not
- 4:58see it? When I see a better
- 4:59announcements graphic, I'll use one reminder to.
- 5:03Enter a book giveaway. We are giving away 5 books, 3
- 5:08prizes in total, 1 grand prize and a bunch of 2nd, 2nd and 3rd
- 5:13prizes and maybe some audio books and stuff also.
- 5:16I have files for that I have permission to give away.
- 5:19The grand prize winner will win Ozzy's memoir Last Rites, his
- 5:23last 1-2 books about Slayer by the authority on Slayer DX.
- 5:28Ferris friend of ours. Hopefully going to get an
- 5:30interview with him either or here and at Glacially.
- 5:33Musical. Money hacks for metal heads by
- 5:37our dear friend Jessie Mae spoiler I wrote the back cover
- 5:41blurb for her based on my original review.
- 5:48And then finally mosh pit productivity.
- 5:52If you're especially on TikTok, Instagram, Mark's metal minute.
- 5:56Good friend of mine, Mark Morris has written a he's melded his
- 6:01twin loves work place, productivity and metal, and it's
- 6:05a it's awesome. He's actually using the
- 6:07principles in his work and he's working on a second book now, a
- 6:11certain member of a certain band.
- 6:13We both know who totally supports this singer being
- 6:16exposed. Womp womp womp womp.
- 6:21I already know. Anyway, it's all good.
- 6:24Dillinger slash Andrew. I appreciate the camaraderie and
- 6:28the private messages and the support.
- 6:30It does mean a lot to me. I definitely didn't meet.
- 6:32I wasn't trying to Pooh Pooh you.
- 6:34I just have to be careful. About like when I can't shoot
- 6:36from the hip unfortunately in this climate.
- 6:40I don't think a lot of people appreciate this, but like, I
- 6:44don't know that journalists. And again, I still see myself as
- 6:47a journalist. I went to journalism school.
- 6:48I have a minor in musicology. I played in bands for 20 years.
- 6:52I have a band again, like I don't think I know more than
- 6:57anybody else. I'm just old and I saw all the
- 6:59cool bands and I know a lot. So I'm just trying to share what
- 7:02I have, my opportunities, my platform to platform others.
- 7:06Sometimes that means covering some bands I dislike.
- 7:09Most of the time it means I can cover bands I do like and love.
- 7:13But you're I don't think the the music media.
- 7:16Is much liked, especially in this current climate where
- 7:19everybody has an opinion, everybody's on YouTube,
- 7:21everybody's on TikTok. Not everybody is a real
- 7:24authority. I just want you to know that
- 7:27Randall B Dunn is here. I also want to tell you like
- 7:30Pitchfork, by the way, you know, a competitor of ours, she's much
- 7:34bigger, you know, owned by Conde Nast, humongous giant reach 10
- 7:39million monthly views on Pitchfork a month.
- 7:41And for years they never respected or covered metal.
- 7:44And then suddenly it was cool a cover metal about 10 years ago.
- 7:47And they went on this like hipster black metal and heavy
- 7:51metal binge, like they always loved metal.
- 7:53They did not. They ran their review of
- 7:56Megadeth. This week with. 3 spelling
- 8:00errors of the name Megadeth in the review.
- 8:03What the fuck? I don't think it's.
- 8:06The writer's fault. Someone in editorial should have
- 8:08caught that. So like, if you want to be taken
- 8:11seriously, Pitchfork, and have people, you know, if you just
- 8:13have the Megadeth record early, good for you and you can run a
- 8:16review of it. You know, we're hoping to do the
- 8:18same. Midsummer Band is here on
- 8:20TikTok. Hails.
- 8:21To you Midsummer, and we gratefully did a premiere for
- 8:24you this week. I'm just saying, like paying
- 8:27attention where you get your sources from, where you get your
- 8:30music news from, where you get your interviews from and who's
- 8:33doing them. There's a lot of.
- 8:34People are shitty, even pitchfork God damn it anyway.
- 8:40Theo want to turn 64 this week. I was listening to some typo.
- 8:44Today we're listening to Typo. Here at the house today, a
- 8:47little typo. Binge Romantic lunch and Typo,
- 8:51they go together. David Bowie's birthday would
- 8:54have been today and he died 10 years ago on on Saturday.
- 9:00Super sad. I still have trouble listening
- 9:03to the Black Star album. And what a way to go.
- 9:07If you're going to go out, go out, you know?
- 9:10Strong. You know, I think that's that's
- 9:12admirable. Leave an artistic statement.
- 9:15Malcolm Young. His birthday would have been on
- 9:18January 6th. I'm still regretting that one of
- 9:22the few bands I never did get to see was ACDC with Malcolm.
- 9:26I will. Probably go this coming summer
- 9:28to see them, possibly in Saint Louis with the glacial musical
- 9:32guys. Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone
- 9:36would have turned 60 this week. You may not know.
- 9:38Mother love bone. Or Andrew Wood.
- 9:40But certainly his death galvanized the whole Seattle
- 9:44grunge movement. Because Soundgarden changed
- 9:47forever. Because of his best.
- 9:49His best friendship with Chris Cornell also rest in power.
- 9:52Because Mother Love Bone broke up.
- 9:54When Andrew died, we got Pearl Jam, really one of the pinnacle
- 9:58early grunge bands. They don't really get credit for
- 10:01it. They ended up not getting
- 10:02signed, like the one band not signed to Sub Pop from that
- 10:05whole deal of bands back then that were Sub Pop bands,
- 10:09including Nirvana. And then they went to a major
- 10:12and they were just about to break.
- 10:13Big and Andrew Wood died 36 years ago.
- 10:18Terrible, but he would have turned 60.
- 10:22Also on some positive news. Happy birthday wishes go to
- 10:24Dirk. Verburen, our good friend at any
- 10:26time, anybody who's listened to the Ghost Code Magazine podcast,
- 10:29has heard this is Dirk Verburen and Megadeth.
- 10:31And you're listening to ghostcodemag.com.
- 10:33So like much. Appreciated Dirk, great guy.
- 10:37Looking forward to the new Megadeth album with Dirk on it.
- 10:41Poppy celebrated a birthday this week.
- 10:43Upcoming new Poppy album. I'm extremely hyped for Morgan
- 10:48Lander of Kitty. Picture here with me at Sick New
- 10:52World 2023 with my fun Hawaiian shirt on three.
- 10:57Fourths of Kitty in the picture with me.
- 10:58Really fun. Thanks for following Sycamore
- 11:02Sounds. We will follow you back when the
- 11:03show is over. Let's see what else?
- 11:06What else? Jimmy Page turns 83 on on
- 11:11tomorrow on the 9th as we record this every Thursday.
- 11:15Also from Led Zeppelin and celebrating a birthday this
- 11:18week. John Paul Jones, one of my.
- 11:19Heroes. Incredible.
- 11:23Also celebrating a birthday this week to Lindemann of Rhyme Stein
- 11:27and his solo career and other weirdness.
- 11:29This photo is by my partner Omar.
- 11:31Great shot. Also also Ivan Moody of Five
- 11:35Finger Death Punch celebrates a birthday this week.
- 11:38Wishing best of luck to Ivan. And also this weekend, Brent
- 11:42Smith of Shinedown. Great video by Rick Biano this
- 11:46week. I give Rick Biano a ton of shit
- 11:48on this channel because he's just got boomer ass tanks, but
- 11:51he actually talked about his bona fides or bona fides if
- 11:54you're like Latin. And he talked about producing
- 11:58off of Shinedown's debut album and writing half the songs and
- 12:02having a platinum record. Not too shabby to have like a
- 12:04platinum million selling record on your first real production
- 12:09job in music so. You know he may shit on Rick.
- 12:13Beato, but he's worked on some bangers.
- 12:16Collective Soul Stone, Double Pilots.
- 12:20And then just, I got asked by a bunch of people last week why
- 12:23didn't talk about Brigitte Bardot passing away.
- 12:25We talked about culture here. We talked about bands,
- 12:27especially rock and punk and metal.
- 12:30And I was asked like, why didn't I talk more about Brigitte
- 12:34Bardot dying because she's such an icon.
- 12:37And I said, oh, you know, she was kind of a hateful ass
- 12:39person. Chrissy Hind of all people.
- 12:43Chrissy Hind of the Pretenders a long time.
- 12:45I love her so much. She wrote this letter to Vanity
- 12:48Fair basically like how dare you drag Brigitte Bardot when she
- 12:52the day she died. Vanity Fair.
- 12:54Vanity Fair is like, I know they are known for their journal, you
- 12:58know, writing and think pieces in journalism, but none of these
- 13:01magazines are what they used to be.
- 13:03Very few magazines today are actually like providing value
- 13:07like they used to. 666 is here. What's up?
- 13:11C5 is here. Nice to see you again.
- 13:14I see a lot of familiar faces sometimes on the tick of the
- 13:16talk. I'm thankful for anybody that
- 13:18watches. But Chrissy Hine just dragging
- 13:21Vanity Fair in a public posts like, dude, you can't believe
- 13:25you. You know, like Bridget Bardo was
- 13:27a hateful, crazy bitch late in her life.
- 13:30And yes, she was beautiful and iconic, but also sometimes
- 13:33people we look up to are hella disappointing.
- 13:36Case in point, Dillinger, what you were talking about what
- 13:38we're going to see soon. So, you know, she's a boomer
- 13:43also. So maybe I just have to let her
- 13:45have her boomer ass take. But like, you know, she got
- 13:48dragged pretty hard in the comments, which I actually love.
- 13:52All right, Drew and myself, Super Clarks 2 turned 20 years
- 14:03old this week. Also, that a lot of fun that's
- 14:05going to get into theaters again.
- 14:07In February, a lot of fun from the world of Kevin Smith.
- 14:12Melissa, if you're here, Kevin Smith, Benjuen all right, once
- 14:18again, here's a tip menu. It's still kind of got the 2025
- 14:21prices, but I will drop the tip options in the menu in the
- 14:27description if you want to, if you're feeling tipsy, we
- 14:31appreciate tips. We do make some money here at
- 14:33Gozco from advertising and affiliate deals, but we'll talk
- 14:37about in a minute. But big butt, you know.
- 14:42We appreciate tips and super thanks and super likes, all
- 14:49right. And here's our Cash App.
- 14:55All right, back to me. To me.
- 14:58For the features this week at Ghost Cult.
- 15:01Once again, we're going to continue to share and roll out
- 15:05our 2025 Album of the Year. We have a lot of guest posts
- 15:10still going up. My personal list is going to go
- 15:12up next week. Top ten books of the year, top
- 15:1510 documentaries about music are coming.
- 15:18These are all things coming. And this weekend we're going to
- 15:20do Mucus Lavender. I hope you got my Christmas
- 15:23card. This week we're going to do the
- 15:28top 10 vinyl or 20 vinyl reissues until Lamont.
- 15:33Of Ghost Cult is going to join me in talking to talk with Don
- 15:35and Glacier the musical in Southeastern Heaven.
- 15:37Don's going to join me. For a spirited run through of
- 15:40the best re issues on vinyl, we have a lot of vinyl unboxing
- 15:44content coming for 2026 as well soon.
- 15:49And yeah, so just did the unboxing of Smashing Pumpkins
- 15:53giant box set again. Grateful to have this thing.
- 15:55It's amazing. It was really nice visiting
- 15:59Melancholy in the Infinite Sadness and again, Albums of the
- 16:03Year guest posts All the Things staff posts new interviews this
- 16:08week on YouTube and our podcast. Rachel Skinner interviewed Nikon
- 16:13of Confess Confesses, the band that was jailed and threatened
- 16:18with execution for playing metal in Iran.
- 16:20I know you might be out there and think that you're pretty
- 16:23metal. You're not as metal as those
- 16:25guys. They were featured in the Hulu
- 16:27series Into the Void last year, which I highly recommend and
- 16:30their own episode just about them and their struggles.
- 16:34And Rachel Skinner in her first interview for those called
- 16:37interviewed them. She's got.
- 16:38Credits at Spin and you know, New Noise and other places.
- 16:42So yeah, fun, fun interview with Confessed.
- 16:46Really great inspirational stuff.
- 16:49Also this week I ran my interview with Jude Bennett of
- 16:53Beyond Creation. One of the best death metal
- 16:56albums of 2025 was their release to check that out if you look
- 17:01brutal technical death metal. Good.
- 17:04Times. Good times.
- 17:07Right, let's see what else? Also glacially musical.
- 17:10We did a live stream last night that was technically our first
- 17:13live stream of the year where he did a chaser episode on Spinal
- 17:16Tap and Rob Reiner Rest in peace.
- 17:19And then my mic shit the bed and I was lost for like half the
- 17:22episode. But we had a cool guest DJ Mike
- 17:25from Saint Louis. So you can check that out with
- 17:27mostly Don and and Nick hosting with a.
- 17:29Little bit of me at the start. All righty, and now it's time
- 17:34for the news. Rundown and we always start with
- 17:36metal festivals we get another sip of something metal festivals
- 17:52so. Milwaukee Metal Fest.
- 17:55I might have to go to this. I've been Hemming and hawing
- 17:57about going and I think I'm going to go now.
- 18:00John Bush was just announced to doing his anthrax set.
- 18:03I'm still trying to see John Bush.
- 18:04Do a whole show with this. I know he's doing the Metal
- 18:07Allegiance show in a few weeks, which I also might go check out,
- 18:10but he's not doing all set there.
- 18:12So I might very well end up at this Milwaukee Metal Fest, Acid
- 18:16Bath, Kill Switch, Engage Ministry and now Armored St. and
- 18:21John Bush and a bunch of others. So that's kind of huge for me to
- 18:25go and check out. Let's see, what else?
- 18:30What else? What else?
- 18:31So there's the line up. They've added a bunch of new
- 18:33bands. Acid Bath, Kill Switch, Engage
- 18:35and Ministry are your headliners.
- 18:37Are still a handful of bands left to go.
- 18:39Obituary, Agalock, Suicidal Tendencies, Also Parish, Iron,
- 18:43Reagan, Pallbearer, Power trip, Second Agalock, Set Integrity,
- 18:47Uada, Hyrax, Havoc, Prong Nails. Oh my God, these are all so
- 18:55Letcher's Nocturne Insight with my homie Richie Cavallera.
- 19:01So I might really need to go to this the first weekend of June.
- 19:06Also FY8 Fest 12 is this weekend.
- 19:09I got a bunch of friends there. Punchy punchy hardcore starting
- 19:12tomorrow, Hate breed, kickback, Marauder mind for a strain,
- 19:18Gorilla biscuits, my favorite flesh water ended, turmoil, C4
- 19:22combust, and many more. Red iron.
- 19:25Great, great, great stuff. Prepare the ground.
- 19:29Just a reminder, this is in Toronto the same weekend as
- 19:33Maryland Death Fest Amanrah. You will know us by the Trail of
- 19:36the Dead, Ransi Isuzu, Paul Bearer, the final show ever from
- 19:39Smallbard, and more. See if they're going to add.
- 19:43Seems pretty cool. I do the yellows as pass by.
- 19:50Halfira has added a prefill party featuring 18 Visions in
- 19:55their hometown in Orange County in Anaheim February 19th, 2026.
- 20:00Halfira W which is the day before, the day after this
- 20:04Friday and Saturday, so looking forward to that.
- 20:07Flatline Fest Dillinger, I think you were talking about this last
- 20:10week. David Otero is the masterful
- 20:13technical death metal producer from Denver, and he was putting
- 20:16up his Flatline Studios as his studio and he put out his own
- 20:19festival this year, so. This looks pretty cool.
- 20:21It's all local. Bands Arch was a pretty
- 20:26incredible I'm not maybe it's necessarily.
- 20:28Local but all bands he's produced so arch Spire.
- 20:31Cattle Decapitations from San Diego, aborted Alegion, Cephalic
- 20:36carnage who I love. Super stoked that they're still
- 20:40doing it. So Flatline fest that looks fun.
- 20:43Also Mystic Festival in Poland announced a gang of new bands.
- 20:47This is headlined by Megadeth, Behemoth, Black Label Society,
- 20:50Anthrax Down, Mastodon, Saxon Ice, 9 Kills and I think they
- 20:56added Folchi and like 40 other death metal.
- 20:59Bands. So that's kind of exciting.
- 21:02This is this is still, I'm still so gutted by this.
- 21:04You know, 2025 every year has losses.
- 21:07I was just thinking about Bowie and Prince recently for 2016 and
- 21:12obviously 2025. Like we're never going to forget
- 21:14about Ozzie and Brett Hines and Tompa from at the gates.
- 21:17But Anne Everton from Dar Sombre is a band I interviewed on the
- 21:21channel here and. We just love that band.
- 21:24Just an underground, weird band. And that's who Ghost Cult was.
- 21:28That's what our makeup is and it's in our DNA.
- 21:31They're doing a Celebration of Life festival at Otto Bar in
- 21:35Baltimore for her. With tons of bands and then I
- 21:39presume a bunch of bands are going to kind of collab.
- 21:41And do her music also, so, you know, just the thing.
- 21:47Just the thing. Just the thing, just the
- 21:54sadness. Best Muddy roots is about to
- 21:57drop their line up. They've been in putting out.
- 21:59Hence I think they secretly announced their first batch of
- 22:02bands. I believe amigo the devil is one
- 22:04of them been talking about his new single in a minute again.
- 22:08So muddy roots is coming. I think we're we're getting
- 22:10close to getting the line up drop Vacan open airs metal
- 22:15battle Canada. These are the Vacan metal
- 22:17battle. I think used to be called
- 22:19battles for Vacan or something is a battle of the bands.
- 22:22They have regionals, US major cities, like 14 cities Canada,
- 22:26all the big cities, West Coast, East Coast applications are open
- 22:30now. So check that out.
- 22:32They close soon. All right, that was all the
- 22:36festival news. Let's see.
- 22:39What else? What else?
- 22:40What's up? Eric Kaplan?
- 22:41How are you doing, pal? That was B Sebastian Bach is
- 22:46announcing North American. Tour with Stitched Up Heart.
- 22:49It's a matter of time before. Baz like you know yaps too much
- 22:52to. Eddie Trunk or somebody but fun
- 22:56fun fun there bleeding from within inside loses.
- 22:58They're going to tour together with Great American Ghost.
- 23:00That looks really cool. That's.
- 23:02Been really cool coming up in New York City celebrating the
- 23:05music of the Clash on Joe Strummer's birthday at the
- 23:08Bowery Electric. He used to work there.
- 23:12It was a lot of fun, really cool out of underground and indie
- 23:15rock artists in New York City covering Clash songs and just
- 23:20drummer stuff. That's pretty fun.
- 23:23Lamb of God has announced their very first show in 15 years in
- 23:26Puerto Rico. So we say Paso Bebe to that.
- 23:29We drink Cheers in Flames and Fit Burn Autopsy are going to
- 23:35support them. That's part of Lamb of God's big
- 23:37US. Tour, of course.
- 23:38What headbangers boat is coming back next year?
- 23:40Also already close to selling out.
- 23:43Just a minor note, Schism, the infamous American Tool tribute
- 23:48band, probably one of the best tribute bands ever, is calling
- 23:51it a day after 25 years as a band and they are in the middle
- 23:54of their last and final tour, including Long Island.
- 23:58Tomorrow might try to talk to Keith about.
- 24:00Getting him on, getting him to kind of look.
- 24:03Back on the career of the band and hit him up.
- 24:05We're friends. Keith Williams.
- 24:08Told you last week we heard the news that KMFDM has a medical
- 24:12illness in their camp, they have a new album coming out, they
- 24:14postpone their upcoming European Tour and they are going.
- 24:17To rebook that tour for the spring or the fall, but looking
- 24:22forward to the new KM. FDM record.
- 24:24A lot of cool new records coming out.
- 24:25David Lee Roth announced another bunch of solo tour dates.
- 24:28It's a pretty fun picture of him.
- 24:31I was debating with Don Delamontes if this is going to
- 24:34be any good or not. I think if you've never seen Van
- 24:36Halen or David Lee Roth, you need the experience of seeing
- 24:40seeing Van Halen and David Lee Roth.
- 24:43But I don't expect it to. Be like great vocally from him.
- 24:48He has the rest of the band kind of carrying him while he, you
- 24:51know, dances around, Hey, I'm Dave.
- 24:53And he does. That which is great, but like
- 24:55you know, you're not going. To get the David Lee Roth from
- 24:58like 1984. Just so you know.
- 25:01As you would not, Once again Crowbar and I Hate God teaming
- 25:04back up for another tour. This is just a poster for their
- 25:07show, their hometown show at Newton NOLA.
- 25:10At. Tipitina is the world famous
- 25:11jazz club. But yeah, super cool.
- 25:14I'd definitely go see this tour. Ricky Rackman's One Foot in the
- 25:18Gutter tour continues where he rides around the country on his
- 25:21motorcycle, and he does kind of a, you know, true rock'n'roll
- 25:25stories. Lees and debauchery Rock'n'roll
- 25:30history, rock stories. He's a lot.
- 25:32Of fun. I've interviewed him, I met him,
- 25:33he's super nice. Red Arm Orchestra plays the film
- 25:38and TV music. Of Mark Mothersboro of Devo.
- 25:42This looks amazing. Here in San.
- 25:44Francisco, I might need to go check this out.
- 25:47Oh my gosh. Also, once again, Zetro and
- 25:50Phantom Witch coming up for a headline show.
- 25:52Was kind of surprised. And he's got Great American
- 25:55Music Hall doing that show. I might.
- 25:57Check in there and see how it. Goes Here's where we are in the
- 26:01world on this Venn diagram 1984 Lord of the Flies, Fahrenheit
- 26:05451, Clockwork Orange, The Matrix, Animal Farm, Logan's
- 26:09Run, Handmaid's Tale. Silent Green, Brave New World,
- 26:12Gattaca, Brazil and you are here in the middle.
- 26:15It is fucking wild. I have no words.
- 26:18For some of the shit going on every day.
- 26:20I'm just trying to hold my woman close and rock out to music on
- 26:24injury. That helps me.
- 26:25Cheers. Oh.
- 26:33Reminder about the tip menu and it's about lost the light there.
- 26:39Witness protection TP. Let's talk about Fable.
- 26:41Beard for a second. I'm going to just go solo here
- 26:45for a second. Fable Beard.
- 26:46You've heard me talk about them. Add Infinitum.
- 26:49We have a link in our description if you want to get
- 26:51hooked up with an awesome beard like me.
- 26:53Can't got to be honest. My lady can't keep her hands off
- 26:55me. I smell great because of their
- 26:57all natural deodorant. My beard is killing it with the
- 27:00beard wash and shampoo and beard bombs and these beard oils.
- 27:04I'm going to use one of them right now.
- 27:06I haven't. Used yet?
- 27:12There's a Christmas one which I think I did 2 weeks ago.
- 27:14Let's do the this one is the Villager a little musky and just
- 27:22put it on the beard comb like so do do do do do and then just
- 27:26brush it in. Hopefully not get any on my
- 27:32biohazard shirt that I love. If you sign up with our link in
- 27:38the description, you get $10 off your first order and we get free
- 27:43merch from like, you know, Fable Beard.
- 27:47Super fun, almost a liquid death.
- 27:49That's pretty funny. And then our other affiliate
- 27:53partners, of course, when you see ads on our website, that's
- 27:55from the Lamb Goat Media Network.
- 28:00Lamb Goat, the much meaner vicious version of Ghost Cult.
- 28:03Also also just shout out to my dude again, Craig Caruso of
- 28:07Caruso Apps. I would not be in business with
- 28:09a website without him. I called him up with a business
- 28:13question this week and just picked his brain.
- 28:15Great relationship we have as friends.
- 28:17And I'm grateful for him. And also stream yard, if you're
- 28:20watching this except you on TikTok, you're watching this to
- 28:24the magic of stream yard. If you want to stream like we
- 28:26do, get up our link in the description and get $10 off your
- 28:30subscription. Other than unintentional run,
- 28:34all right, we're also on. Twitch and as I mentioned, we
- 28:37have a new YouTube channel. Ghost Cult Live.
- 28:40Check it out. We're working on channel
- 28:42memberships, we're on all the. Socials, let's talk about all
- 28:45the big news of the week. So Pat Smear in one of the more
- 28:49coincidental and funny things on the week when glacially musical
- 28:51did Spinal Tap as a review and a retrospective.
- 28:55Pat Smear hurt his broke his foot in a gardening accident,
- 28:59probably skateboarding. And Oh yeah, I can't wait.
- 29:04I can't wait for. You to.
- 29:05Smell me and touch me. When I get this call.
- 29:10Pat Smear broke his foot. He's going to miss the beginning
- 29:12of their tour, which was this week.
- 29:14Next weekend actually had a handful of dates, including the
- 29:17charity show at the Kia Forum. We've been promoting.
- 29:19And then they have Welcome to Rockville and a bunch of
- 29:23European and American tour dates.
- 29:25And of course, of course, this is the debut tour with Elon
- 29:29Rubin. They played kind of a couple of
- 29:31secret shows and a little bit of touring with Elon, but this is
- 29:34like really his coming out party.
- 29:36In 26. So Pat Smear get well soon,
- 29:39buddy. Also a story that I don't think
- 29:42anybody else is covering a pretty controversial and I'm
- 29:45going to kind of stay away from the controversial parts of it.
- 29:47But Bob Villain, the UK rap metal.
- 29:52Hardcore Group. As you know they are humongously
- 29:55popular. I would say along the same lines
- 29:57as Turnstile and Idols, maybe just a touch below them in terms
- 30:01of popularity. You know they did the
- 30:03Glastonbury Festival, which is like the Coachella.
- 30:05Of of England. And they said some, you know,
- 30:09made some very strong political statements about Israel and
- 30:12Palestine, and the US said we're banning them and taking away
- 30:16their passports and taking away their visas.
- 30:18Fine. That's EU s S.
- 30:20Prerogative. And then England investigated
- 30:24them for like domestic terrorism, which is definitely a
- 30:27step too far. Even if you disagree with
- 30:29someone and their political leanings, you can't.
- 30:33Curtail free speech, even speech you don't agree with.
- 30:35Now hate speech. You can argue that they may be
- 30:38made hate speech and that kind of made them a figure.
- 30:41These guys were doxxed, they were terrorized, they were
- 30:44lambasted, fried in the kangaroo court of social media.
- 30:48But they the charges against them from the Glastonbury show
- 30:52have now been dropped in their homeland.
- 30:54The fight continues. We shared the video on our
- 30:57socials. The previous post about this.
- 31:01Went to 1,000,000 views and comments on Instagram.
- 31:04It's unheard of. We don't, we're not that big a
- 31:05channel, but like I'm, you know, I'm bemused and interested.
- 31:10I try to not let people get too nasty to each other, but
- 31:12obviously people are very very polarized by these topics.
- 31:16But. I just thought it was
- 31:17interesting that nobody else is touching this.
- 31:19Story so we post about it. True Sound The Liberty TSOL TSOL
- 31:26is retiring after 4546 years in punk.
- 31:31One of my favorite bands, Jack Grisham, was one of my favorite
- 31:34interviews recently and he kind of.
- 31:37Hinted at the end of the band. We're all older guys and I just
- 31:40don't see us doing this forever. So.
- 31:42He's got a lot of other things. He makes solo music.
- 31:44He's like the unofficial. Mayor of Formosa Beach, he
- 31:48writes. Plays.
- 31:49He makes music scores, films. He's he's in screenplay author
- 31:55very impressive. Guy, Jack and I wish them the
- 31:57best, probably. One of the we're going to do.
- 32:01In our first new music Friday of the year for tomorrow in a
- 32:05little while, but I wanted to call out the like there were
- 32:07records released on on Friday last week and one of them was
- 32:11actually in a banger death metal.
- 32:14Black and atmospheric black. Metal.
- 32:17Black and death metal. Black and death metal.
- 32:19Death and black metal. I don't know Allende ELLENDE
- 32:23from Austria. Check them out.
- 32:25This is a very scary photo. Of them I'm not scared, but like
- 32:29I could see how other people would be scared.
- 32:34So yeah, a lot of fun. That's a really cool record.
- 32:37You know a lot of potential great black metal coming out
- 32:41this year, including a new dark from this blew my mind.
- 32:44So we know that on New Year's Eve, MTV as we knew it is gone.
- 32:49They do have MTV channels on like Pluto TV and they still run
- 32:53Ridiculousness all the time. But MTV, the broadcasted channel
- 32:57is now gone. And then I discovered this week
- 33:01this MTV Rewind website that has 27,000 videos that pull from
- 33:06YouTube, but it's some coder put it together, an algorithm that
- 33:10like has a website, it lives on the web.
- 33:12It pulls all the videos that are out in the world clips.
- 33:15Some of them aren't the best quality because they were
- 33:17probably taped off the TV. But it is amazing.
- 33:21You may not know this, but some years ago I tried to do a metal
- 33:25music channel. We, I was working on this in the
- 33:28background with some fellow music industry folks and
- 33:31entertainment folks that I'm friends with and we took it
- 33:33pretty far. We pitched TV people and look
- 33:38promising, but we couldn't get it to go all the way through,
- 33:41but MTV rewind check that website out.
- 33:43They do have headbangers ball, just videos, some videos of
- 33:46Ricky. They have yo MTV raps.
- 33:49They have just. You know all the big shows,
- 33:51alternative nation, really fun. So whoever did.
- 33:53This you're a hero not all heroes wear capes just once
- 33:56again thanks to everybody that checked out the amigo the devil
- 33:59knew single this week he shared it and it kind of went viral was
- 34:03our biggest post on the website this week I'm going to try to
- 34:07call those things out all year long when there's a big.
- 34:10Moment or a lot of traffic that comes to us I'm I'm thankful and
- 34:16yeah so amigo the devil A new kind of lonely is his new song.
- 34:20He's going to put a series of singles that I assume will
- 34:23eventually become a whole record.
- 34:28Ruin has passed by and how laws has passed by.
- 34:31OK, OK. Plus, if we're put out a new
- 34:35single this week, their new album Normal Isn't is coming
- 34:40next month about a month from today and also their US Torrance
- 34:44quickly selling out and they announced their music video for
- 34:48their new single is actually a teaser for their.
- 34:51Upcoming comic book series. Take all my money right now,
- 34:55Puscifer. Take it all also also.
- 35:00We knew this was coming for quite some time.
- 35:03If you saw the. Harley Flanagan documentary
- 35:07about his life in punk rock and struggles.
- 35:12He put out a new version of Hard Times, the classic romance
- 35:17single, and it's just a big this it's.
- 35:20Out as a flexi, as a flexi disc for Decibel Magazine.
- 35:26So that's kind of fun, right? Hard times.
- 35:31It sounds just like the original with better production.
- 35:33I don't know what else to say. Hardly all day, JJ, No.
- 35:37Speaking of archival things, one of my homies is Martin Defot.
- 35:42He is the producer of the rap duo Gorilla Ghost from Milwaukee
- 35:47who I'm a huge fan of and he put up the this archive he created
- 35:51Milwaukee Punk. Where it's got?
- 35:53The history of all these bands that are lost before Spotify,
- 35:56before band camp, before all these sound clouds.
- 35:59So I like that he's trying to, you know, like carry this
- 36:03forward and and. Preserve things.
- 36:05People who preserve stuff matter to me.
- 36:07I can't wait for that Henry Rollins Punk Museum in
- 36:09Nashville. My sweetie and I are going to go
- 36:12to the Punk Rock Museum, which I went to once before.
- 36:14We're going to go together. It's going to be awesome.
- 36:17I missed this, but I just want to highlight this.
- 36:19One of my favorite people in the world is Duncan Wilder Johnson
- 36:23from Massachusetts. He had the booking agency
- 36:26Branson Cheeses. He's playing a bunch of pet monk
- 36:29metal and punk bands, and he directed a documentary about his
- 36:32favorite band, Sam Black Church. Great old school retired punk
- 36:35band now from the Boston scene. Interesting stuff about them.
- 36:40They're Masons, but also like hello, Progressive and cool.
- 36:45And so they have a documentary called Leave a Groove in the
- 36:47Earth, and the rights have passed for the music, so it's
- 36:51not available anyway unless they renegotiate the rights.
- 36:55But in the meantime, he's been hosting screenings in the New
- 36:58England. Area but if you want.
- 37:00To call your attention that this thing exists, look up Sam Black
- 37:03Church on your streaming services or YouTube.
- 37:05And hopefully someday this documentary comes back to comes
- 37:10back to. Us, you know.
- 37:13Also also Sheer Terror thank their fans.
- 37:18This was kind of fun. Thanks for 41 years.
- 37:20New Sheer Terror mini LP out soon.
- 37:22A lot of bands did a like it's New Year's.
- 37:25Here's what we're working on. So I thought that was clever
- 37:28that, you know, a lot of bands are doing social.
- 37:30Media in a way they never did before, which I really respect.
- 37:33La Madrina JB is here. Nugget is here.
- 37:38Thank you so much for being here.
- 37:40Bargle the desk this year. Do scooter.
- 37:45What up, scooter? Scooter pass by.
- 37:48I think he's at work. Let's see what else?
- 37:53What? Else Megadeth This Megadeth
- 37:55documentary is coming soon, which you should absolutely
- 37:59check out Behind the Mask. I got tickets to go.
- 38:01On January 24th it's actually also screaming.
- 38:04On the 22nd you'll have your first chance to hear new
- 38:07Megadeth music that is not the singles and behind the scenes
- 38:12discussion of Megadeth history as well as most of the new
- 38:15record is apparently in the documentary, so that's kind of
- 38:18fun. I am curious about this
- 38:20Metallica cover by Megadeth. I don't think Metallica would
- 38:23have ever covered Megadeth, but whatever.
- 38:26Interesting nonetheless. This is like really fun Rage
- 38:29Against the Machine. Never specified what type of
- 38:31machine they were furious with but I reckon it was probably a
- 38:33printer. What a great tweet.
- 38:35Best tweet of them you guys saw. And then just a reminder again,
- 38:39our own Duncan Evans of Ghost Cult also has his band Duncan
- 38:43Evans and the Weeping Starlight. Their debut is coming out soon.
- 38:47Duncan's had many records out as a solo artist and now he has a
- 38:49full band behind him and I'm very excited.
- 38:52The pre-orders are live now. I will.
- 38:54Probably link this in the description.
- 38:56And now it's time for the long-awaited return of new music
- 39:00Friday. Holy holy hell.
- 39:03Let's see if I can bring in some new music Friday.

- 43:47a very mid review and they were pissed about it.
- 43:50Like they commented shittily. On us so I don't think we
- 43:53reviewed this one. Oh well, sucks being y'all.
- 43:59The Medea project Hello there. Live at Ding walls.
- 44:02I don't know why they need a live.
- 44:04Album from small band. But OK.

- 45:32And now it's time for the mailbag.
- 45:34Let's do the mailbag and then get out of here because this
- 45:38show is going to end. I have.
- 45:42A cool I have a lot of cool stuff back at my house.
- 45:45Some of my Black Friday stuff has arrived.
- 45:48Some deals that I got for Christmas.
- 45:50I got a bunch of like mystery packs, like 15 records for 10
- 45:53bucks. So I bought a bunch of that but
- 45:55I'm going to do in the future. I did go to Super 7 before they
- 45:58close their physical stores. Super 7 still exists, but I went
- 46:02to their store and everything was like 60% off.
- 46:05So I had two things in the mail and this is from the last.
- 46:08Record Store Day and just a. A hint to y'all record survey is
- 46:12coming back in 2026 but not until March.
- 46:16I think it's March 6th. So I bought 2.
- 46:19You know a few things on a few pre-orders and a few things just
- 46:24straight up to support some small creators and this one's
- 46:27fun. This is from Robbie Grodin
- 46:30Glitch McConnell. I was talking about this record.
- 46:32Robbie is a new photographer for Ghost Cove in the Tri-state
- 46:36area. I.
- 46:37Think he lived out here? Before I lived here and.
- 46:40And then he lived in Boston after I lived in Boston, and now
- 46:43he lives in New York after. I lived in New York.
- 46:45Interesting dude, but he has several bands including this
- 46:50Glitch McConnell grindcore project, so I'm fucking into it.
- 46:54Let's see what he sent. Oh, look at this.
- 46:56It's packed. Beautifully memo to bands.
- 47:00Always include a note or make the packaging fun.
- 47:04And then here we go. Fuck ice, fuck Trump, fuck
- 47:07Nazis. I love this dude already and
- 47:10AACAB, so I'm down. So yeah, Cocaine Mitch is
- 47:16actually his name, but there's also a glitch McConnell, man,
- 47:18and I think that's his new record.
- 47:20Glitch McConnell, an act of violence.
- 47:22So this looks really fun. Let's just.
- 47:24Open it up real quick and see what's in it.
- 47:27But shout out to Robbie, I'm so excited he shot.
- 47:30Agnostic Front for us. He did.
- 47:33Imperial Triumphant. I know the teeth, that's bad,
- 47:37but I didn't plan properly for this.
- 47:39I should have opened it. I don't have to stab myself with
- 47:44the scissor. So this is so much fun.
- 47:57Mitch McConnell is not fun and honestly most politicians need
- 47:59to get the fuck out of office. All tracks written and recorded
- 48:02and mixed and master by Robbie Groton.
- 48:05Extra vocals on Kill your rapist by Sarah Ribs.
- 48:08Ribeiro. Extra vocals on Kill your Rapist
- 48:11and cocaine by Tim Potatoes McGrath.
- 48:13Good nicknames. The Coconing in the Electrocute
- 48:17nation mixed by Down Upright artwork by Moji Reverie, Rushed
- 48:22AG designs, a huge fucking thank you too, and a whole list of
- 48:25things the anti theism coffee club and to whomever whatever
- 48:32finally takes out Mitch McConnell.
- 48:34All children deserve a chance. This is a very cool packaging
- 48:37for a digipack and the CD that kind of looks like a you're
- 48:42being hypnotized or it's a pound of cocaine, circular cocaine and
- 48:46then the back cover. They hung Ku Klux Klansmen and a
- 48:51big. Cocaine Mitch logo.
- 48:53I don't know if you can see this Cocaine Mitch logo here.
- 48:57It's a pile of coke with the words cocaine.
- 48:59Mint. Mitch are like, you know,
- 49:02stepped up over a razor. Blade a lot of fun.
- 49:04I'm looking forward to hearing that grind core record and then
- 49:06another one I just. Kind of bought on a whim.
- 49:09From Van Campus, like short money was this one that came in
- 49:14I think from Canada and this is Atomic Train.
- 49:19Atomic Train. I just like the name and I like
- 49:21the album artwork and sometimes you just look at a genre.
- 49:23And take a chance. They wrote a handwritten note to
- 49:26Robbie Message. Because we're friends, right?
- 49:29Thanks Keith with their Atomic Train like letterhead here.
- 49:32Keith, thank you so much for supporting Atomic Training means
- 49:35a lot to us. I hope you'll enjoy this album
- 49:37and again for helping to share our work with more listeners.
- 49:39We've also added another CD as a gift from Junior.
- 49:42Junior is one of their members. He has a side project.
- 49:44We hope you'll enjoy it take. Thank you and take care.
- 49:47Junior Francois, Alex and Nolan and.
- 49:52Rock'n'roll. Yeah, very nice.
- 49:54Always include a personal note. So here's junior CD.
- 49:57Not kind of in a package or anything, but that's fine.
- 49:59And here's the atomic train. Shall I try to open this?
- 50:02I shall. Shall try to open it.
- 50:07What new stuff are you looking forward to in 2026?
- 50:11What new records? What band?

- 50:16rock and metal that you did? I'd like to know.

- 50:32all our interview videos with a shout out a little mention at
- 50:38the end of the video and I'm trying to find ways to make that
- 50:41into. The videos.
- 50:43Proper in 2026. So here's Atomic strains digipak
- 50:50album. Very cool, very cool.
- 50:53Really nice packaging here. This is like a luxury thing with
- 50:56the insert digipak card and the CD still like C DS.
- 51:02I still listen to C DS here and there and here's the jacket as
- 51:05well as like a little sleeve. With the the jacket that it sits
- 51:08in. Super fun looking, cool looking
- 51:13cool like a Hard Rock band. Some photography.
- 51:16This is very glossy and super interesting.
- 51:18I will listen to this and check it out.
- 51:20And again, thanks to Atomic Train, thanks to Robbie Grogan
- 51:23and Cocaine Mitch. Much appreciated.
