- 0:10SPEAKER_02: Yay.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: Episode 65 of So This Happened.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: It's delicious.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: And what are you drinking?
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: I am drinking.
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: What am I drinking?
- 0:20SPEAKER_03: I forget.
- 0:20SPEAKER_03: We went over so many options.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Which one are you drinking?
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, the full for you.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Cranberry Orange.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: Cranberry Orange.
- 0:25SPEAKER_03: And it is delicious.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: That was my first sip.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: We made that for people to be able to deal with their like crazy Aunt Jenny during the holidays.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: It's really good.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: It's really good.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: I don't have an Aunt Jenny, but whatever.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: I don't go by Jenny.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: No, it's delicious.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what do you have?
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: I have the TD Rock Kolsch, which is a fantastic light German beer.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: It's been a good fishing beer for me as well.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: So 4.7%.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: 27 IBUs.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Just nice, crisp, clean.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Man, I love that beer.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Good beer.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: You mentioned something about the little no filter, and it still is.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no filter.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: That is just how good when business partners are great at making good beer.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Shout out.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Shout out to sure.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Good dudes.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: And then I'm drinking the dunkel, D N K L, but it's Munich style dunkle.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: And delicious.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Definitely something I'm going to be drinking a lot of over the next few months.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Say what?
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Bless you.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: That's not even a bad word.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: I said what'd you call me?
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: We are we've packed up the mics and everything and made a nice little road trip out to El Dorado, Kansas today to be here with BJ Hunt.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Yes, at Walnut.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: At Walnut River Tap Room.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: And we are going to learn a lot about how Walnut River got started, story of the building, stories of the beer, stories of BJ and BJ Behind the Bar.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: But before we get too far into anything, we can't have great podcasts without great sponsors.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: So we must shout out VU events.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: It had to be Voo.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: It had to be Vuo.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Color Therapy.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: And of course Backspace Media, which is my marketing company.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Yay! And actually, I can say this on here.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Walnut River Brewing is was actually officially my very first client.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Woo! Thank you.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: It's been a class so far.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: No, thank you.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: We're definitely having a lot of fun.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: And then, yeah, but we can't we can't get into all of the meat of everything without playing a nice little round of this or that first.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: This is where we really get to know, where our listeners really get to know a little bit more about BJ.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: And before we dive into the rest of everything, you may have noticed a list of I don't know how many 20 prompts or so.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: There's some questions.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: I gotta be honest, I kind of skimmed over that part.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: That's okay, good because we don't do all of them.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: We probably do maybe four or five of them.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: And so what will happen is I'll give a couple of prompts, this or that.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: You'll pick your prompt, and then you'll give a little bit of a reason why you feel that way.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Then Rachel will give hers and I'll give mine and then we'll go around again.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: So people get stuck in the middle.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Never, never.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Have you listened before?
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Miss Beth over there.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: I always think you guys say both.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: So, okay.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: To start off, are you more of a flight person or a full pint kind of person?
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Personally, yeah.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: All the beer.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Full pint.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: You know that, okay.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: A couple reasons.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: One, I'm gonna have more than one pint.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: So it really is my flights are just bigger.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I got one.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: But I also know that flights kind of tick the people off behind the bars like lots of cool beer.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: That's all right.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: So I try not to do that to another brewery if I walk in.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Have I?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: In fact, it we did one at station 23, station something, beer in Denver is where we think we ordered a flight, and we didn't realize a flight for them was one of every single beer.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Oh Rick and Travis and I ordered each a flight.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: We had 78 small taste requests.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 4:38SPEAKER_04: So I'm a reasonable.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I remember the look on her face, and I'm like, I'm gonna do that to her again.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Oh probably more in depth of a question than you want to ask.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: No, that's great.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Oh man, what would you say the typical flight amount is?
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: It depends on the brewery.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Four or five.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: So that begs the question, yeah.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Like I feel like I am more of a flight girl, just depending on a the brewery.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: If I don't, if I'm not familiar with the brewery and I don't know for sure what I'll like or if I'll like certain ones, yeah.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Also, I guess it's very important to ask about the amount and set the size of them too, because I have had flights where it's like just the smallest amount where I'm like ordering five of those is way less than just one pint.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, or something like that, if it's not poured properly or whatnot.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: And then, but I just like I like trying all the things, but ultimately that's gonna be like my decider, those six beers that that's gonna be my decision of the I want for my pint.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: But here I know that I'm I know that I like the some of the ones I've tried.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: It's just been a while since I've tried some of them.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and most places do ask you for a sample too.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: I bet it's way easier for them to clean big cups because I have felt bad about that before.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: It's kind of like you go to the ice cream shop and you ask for my god, how many spoons if you get a sample to get your flight?
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, come on, man, like oh, okay, that's not cool.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I wouldn't do that.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: I was like, the point is the sample isn't it?
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: I think that's I think it's a great way to get to know a new brewery.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Yes, agreed, agreed.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: I think that's a good tactic for sure.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: And then but now I don't know that I'd want to try 78.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't be against it, but 78 or even 30, like that's a lot.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: It was a few, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: But yeah, definitely more of a flight go because I like to try new things, but usually I use it as the deciding factor for my full blonde.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: Generally speaking, unless I'm already familiar with the brewery and unless you got 78 of them.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: But still, yeah.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: And it's kind of fun too, because then you can have other people that you're with try little bits of whatever.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, or if there's one I want to try and they want to try, okay.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: Let's each try new ones.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: That would be fun.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: It's like a charterie board of beer.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 7:04unknown: Yeah.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Beer for dinner.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:06unknown: Yes.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: I think for me, I I used to do a lot more flights, especially in new breweries going around.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Tim and I do, we go to breweries when we're on road trips.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: We we base our itinerary and our meals on the road trip around breweries.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: And sometimes if there are a lot of ambers on a menu, and I'm like, oh, I want, I love, I love ambers.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: I can't decide, but I don't have a flight, so then I'll put on an IPA and then probably a pilsner or something else on there too.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: But just give myself a little bit of a, then I know which amber I like too.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Because I'm tasting them against the other ambers, or whatever, whatever kind of beer it is.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: But but now I find myself just okay.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Is there amber?
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: No.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Is there an I was shred?
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, no.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: It's just like, or is there a dumbbell?
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: The dumbbells usually like in Kansas City, I get dumbbell all the time.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Casey Beer Co.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think it really just for me, it depends on a couple of things for the flight, but yeah, I'm more of a pine curl.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: Like your decision tree, that's all.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know the truth.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: It's all in here, yeah.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: And that is partially because you've studied them going around with him and stuff like that, too.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: And before that, even and all of that.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: So you already have your decision tree to a certain scope.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: Me, whereas I don't sometimes I'll breeze, and you'll hate to hear this, but sometimes I'll breeze and I won't give you a thing else.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: But yeah, so I definitely would say I'm more of a flighter than you because you know what you want.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: But every day, like around which talk, I would get a pint.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: Or I know the people, so they'll give me a sample, like easy, and I don't feel bad about it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: But yeah, but flights can be really fun if it's a new brewery.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, so BJ, seasonal release or year-round favorite?
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Man, I think it's gonna have to be like case specific.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: But okay, probably seasonal release.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: And the reason I say is because here at our brewery, I love our beers.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I get tired of our beers.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Like, okay, I've had hyping 42 times this month.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Like something different.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so the seasonal release.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh thank god, we have something new.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: So yeah, and then we always trade beers.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: You've seen it, beer events.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: We trade beers with other breweries.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's fun.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank god.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: It's some of that.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Here's beer, we're gonna drink some of that.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Do you think there's more events where that occurs around holiday times or seasonal, I guess?
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: It's not just holidays.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Like beer season for events is there's a little bit earlier in the spring, there's a few in the summer, but towards September, October, yeah, it's where all the fat kids come out of hiding because it's nice and cool outside and they're like all these events.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: So this is smack in the middle of event season.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we've got an event coming up later this week, actually.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's good.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Finishing up event season.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: We got one more, but uh yeah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: I was thinking that it seems like fall is always when everybody gets hyped about breweries, not just your typical, you know, brewery goers.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: So I feel like it can draw more of a crowd.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: And I see how it could keep it fresh for you, too.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely, and people are tailgating right now, yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: They're having a good time.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: You know why I big Stanley Cups at the football game?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: No, they're not staying.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: That's hydrating.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: That's not water.
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: That is funny, man.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: Seasonal or every day.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: I think I like trying things new again, kind of flight.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: So I but again, you guys do like a couple of them each season, you'll do them again.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Or do you do a lot of things?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: We'll switch them up so different seasons.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: I do like that because I honestly feed a lot off of Jen's excitement for it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: She goes, I'm so excited for this.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: We gotta go get one.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: And I like trying all the new seasonal things.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: And I'm drinking one now.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'd say probably the seasonal ones because I just think it adds to everything that happens in for me the fall, even though there's other seasons too, as you said.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: But I think it's exciting, and you get to see the fun new label pop back up on the show, or you get to see all the cool different, like fun things you guys do on social media with it, or I don't know.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: I think it does add more of a connection factor to yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: And the seasonals are fun because you can you could try out new things.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: We have a few fun ones coming up next year that we've never done before.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, we've got like a cherry sour.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: We have a we have one called Unicorn Poofs.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: It is a cotton candy sour.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: Oh, cotton candy source done by us.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying it's never been done.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: I'm sure somebody out there has done one, but we've never made one.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And uh with a little preliminary, I'm like, this doesn't suck.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, see, I like that too because it's it's your time to play.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: It is your area to play in.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: We gotta keep the guys back there engaged too.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: It's good for morale.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: They're like time to make the donuts.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh god, yeah, it's good for morale, but like um front of house and in back of house.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: So that I think is why, yeah, seasonal for the house.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: But people I said seasonal, but here I am drinking the Kohl's.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: We tried it true, but it is just again, yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: The stuff that you know you like, you know you like, so it can be a comfort factor in a different way.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I guess yeah, I know that I'm a seasonal girl because I I like how different times of year and different tastes, I just I associate them together, and that makes them it's traditional and makes I don't know, like I like having the south winter when it's cold outside, and I love having oh my god, I love the pumpkin beers.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: I'm a fiend from Oktoberfest and pumpkin beers.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm yes, I might have to do that in a minute.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Might drink this one down and we might have to make a switch.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: I do love oh my gosh, I do love a yumkin.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I do I associate them and I look forward to them every year.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: I'm like watching for the October of a Chatumber and just say something about Yumkin.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I've heard a year go by where you haven't told me or texted me something excited about a yumkin or a took fast.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: I think it was earlier this season, just a couple weeks ago, maybe you were talking about the rim on it and it's the brewery equivalent of PSP.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: I always fix the yes.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: I think I said that a lot this year.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it's true, yeah, and it's delicious.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, but okay, but there's also times where I just I know I like that there's flagships so I can fall back on something.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Like your amber.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Like my amber.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: Colch is an easy one to fall back on to.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: It's just light and easy to drink and delicious.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: So I think it most of the time I'm a seasonal person, but there are times where I'm just like, I just need a nah, I just need a thing right now that's not hard to decide.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: And so it's like a fallback situation.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: We'll do one more.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: There's so many good ones on there.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: We're just we're just kidding.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: No, this is the this is the stuff.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: Let's see.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, all right.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Trivia night or live music night.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Well, oh, I see some thoughts brewing in there.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: We do trivia night.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: I would love to do live music night.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: However, there are these wonderful groups out there BMI, CSAC, and ASCAT.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Appropriately named that like to come after you for playing any music at all.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: And they've really priced themselves way out.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: So for what they want to charge you for 30 people, yeah, you can't begin to have live music.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: So we don't.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: But I would love to.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And live music is awesome.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: But not at the rates they want to charge.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: We do trivia.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Trivia is great.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: You're not the first, you're not the first brewer that I've heard say that too.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know it's an irritation for sure.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: And you and I have had other conversations about that as well.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Just yeah.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: It's frustrating.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: And they should get paid.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Please don't get me wrong.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: So if anyone wants to obey, am I hearing this right?
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: If anyone wants their music to be shared for the lovely Python, I don't know, maybe a couple beers.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: If it were that simple.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: I would play if I knew how for you guys for just a couple beers and a good time.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: But oh, we get that offer too.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, I can play the guitar hero.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: If they do any covers, yeah, you're also no.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: You don't like covers.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: It's not that covers basically.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, really?
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, I didn't even look into that.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Do you want to sing anything that you've ever heard before?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Even if like a Disney song.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Happy birthday.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, especially if it's a Disney song.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: They go after people all the time.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: Well, what if you don't pay them?
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: That doesn't make sense.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they don't really like that.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: I think Jen and I sing all the time in the car.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: That's different.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: So if we started singing in public and someone bought us beer because we did so good, we'd get in trouble.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: What?
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: That's a thing.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Actually, I knew I knew a restaurant.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: And you promote it and sound like karaoke.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: What about karaoke?
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Boom.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Maybe karaoke.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Actually, there's licenses for karaoke.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: True story.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: I did not know this.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: TVs.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: You can't just plug in cable and play it.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I hope there are other people out there that don't know this because I feel like what?
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Oh no, no.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: I think you just have to be in these conversations to wow.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: Or know somebody that got sued.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: We know we know a uh restaurant in Kansas that got sued for$30,000 for playing music on their patio.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: They had it for inside, but they didn't think about it having to.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: What a technicality.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: My God.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I'm like, wow, 30 grand.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: I feel like that should have been a warning.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: They thought differently.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: So yeah, there's that.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: I think artists should be paid, don't they?
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: It's kind of and I agree.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: I just it makes it tough, man.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: We're trying to provide for the people.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: Provide fun and good times.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: So do it.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: I guess we can always sing.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Well, no, we can't just sing.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: We just sing for fun to the radio.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sing a lot.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: If anything it remotely sounds like.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: But don't make it sound like Gilmore girl.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh, it's like you're just loose up in here.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: Can't do it.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: You're learning lessons tonight about licensing.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: I hope a lot of people are, honestly.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: This is a very important and expensive lesson to learn.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: I will learn prior to any costs needing paid.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: So what are you?
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Are you more of a trivia or live music type of person?
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: Oh probably depends on my mood, but as far as to attend live music all the way.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: I love live music.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: And if you're paying for it, no skinny.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: No, I do.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'll pay a cover too.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: But but again, I love if it's a big concert, that's something you gotta save up for.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: But as soon as we're talking about in a brewery or any sort of smaller space versus a big concert, yeah, live music all the way.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Even if it's just a little jazz bar or someone with an acoustic guitar sitting up on a tiny stage or a chair in front of the room, I think that can be really nice.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it can be.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: Even if it's not my favorite song or anything, and I'm not a huge huge fan of that many country songs, but if I still hear someone's voice and they're doing it, I'm like, I love it.
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: I think it really adds to the vibe.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: And but I do enjoy trivia nights, but whenever I go to the trivia nights, I mostly I like I like certain certain segments, but I'm just there for the support and the app and the apps, the appetizers and stuff, and the friend group.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: So I do the way that brings people together, but definitely live music for sure.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: Even if I have to pay a small cover, I'll do it.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: But it's if it gets to where you're paying 20 or more dollars, it's like for a cover, yeah.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Cover in this century, actually.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: I've paid$15 for cover recently.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, probably for a band in Kansas, they have at least a$13 cover or something like that.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Something like that.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: So yeah, that's not bad to me.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: No, those guys are yeah, boxers.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: I love them.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: I'm definitely a live music junkie for sure.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: However, I also love trivia.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: I like them both.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: I'm on a trivia team in which John now, oh yeah, and my husband just launched a trivia company.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Yes, results of that.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Yes, it doesn't affect my answer, but yeah, I know I am a live music junkie, especially the band in Kansas kiddos.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: I love those guys.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: They're not kiddos, they're men, they're wonderful.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Love them.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: Always a shout-out to Bandit.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: Let's do both, let's do trivia and follow up with go to trivia and then go to band in Kansas.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: That sounds like the best night ever, honestly.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Ask you guys a question.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: This is a fun question.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like to ask what are your top three favorite concerts that you've been to.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Because this is always a lot of fun for people.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's interesting to peer into your soul a bit, but it's uh there's always interesting stories.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, definitely.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: I love that question.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Do you want to go first, Jen?
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: I know what it's gonna be.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Ted Gumma.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Okay, first, yes, of course.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Number one would be Taylor Smith.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Okay, the Reputation Tour at Arrowhead.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: It's amazing.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Swifty all the way.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: The I think the second would be oh Gulgo Bordello when they came to Riverfest.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: And I just I don't know, they're so I they're not as well known, okay, but they're I think they're new songs that I know Star Wearing Purple is one.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: No, so the guy they're they're they have a lot of stage presence, a lot of stage presence.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: And Wu Tang?
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the guy gets up there with a bottle of what is it, 29 crimes?
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Is that 19 crimes?
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: What is that wine?
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: 19 crimes?
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: 19 crimes, yeah.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: He gets up there with uh 19 crimes.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: And was I there?
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Why are you not getting home during 19 crimes?
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: That's a wine question.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: I was like, I don't know what wine.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: He was holding 19 crimes wine, and he went through one bottle, and it's more going all over the stage than actually in his mouth.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: And then one bottle finishes and he pulls out another one from God knows where.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: And the like the vibe is fantastic.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: So we're and it was also one of my first concerts that I went to with Tim when we first started dating, and it was just a whole thing.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: It was so much fun.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: And then I guess obviously I have to say abandoned Kansas because I hate missing an abandoned Kansas night at the brickyard.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: It's my favorite.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: I guess for me, man, I have a range.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: So I haven't been a whole lot of concerts.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: If you talk about like large ones, I mean, okay.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: I loved all we went to code in camera, but I know for different reasons of them.
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: So what was it?
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: It was easier.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: The Data Remember concert or the White Chapel concert, because I love the crowd serve.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: Already used to be.
- 23:07SPEAKER_04: She's not as well as all.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Somebody actually likes it.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: I got picked up once.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, pull me down.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: Oh no, it's a little make me nervous too.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: She just falls in the case.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: I was looking for my friend, and it's very crowded, and everyone's pushing me.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: I was in front of the mosh pit.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: I was looking for my friend, but she's taller than me.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: I'm shorter.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: So just everyone in black and sweaty and everything, and pushing.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, the only way I can breathe is if I go up because I can't go any other way.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: So they just look around and go like this, and they just push you up.
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: You're going up.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: You're going up.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: And then I go up and I go up.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: And then they work me to the front.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: And then they push me up so that I the lead guitarist of White Chapel grabbed my hand to save my face from hitting the stage.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: You know, standard on there.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: And then and security got me three times that night because I would kept going around.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: And then they told him the third time they were like, okay, no, no more.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: It realize you're not driving, right?
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: It's an exercise.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: They keep throwing me.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: No, absolutely.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: So that was fun because I got a crowd server three times in one day.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: But that's an awesome story.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: And that's going to meet the the guitarist and the drummer or whatever.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: But not that I even I didn't even really follow the man before or whatever, but I just really get into the energy of the crowd.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Apparently.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: You guys are good buds now.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: No, I don't talk to either of them.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: But I am a guitar pick.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: Another one.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: What's another one?
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: I did really like going with Red Hot Chili Peppers just because I've always wanted to see them.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: It was at interest in Karina.
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: They were there.
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: And my grandma gives us money for when she was still around.
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: She would give us a certain amount of money for a Christmas present to buy ourselves because she never know what to get around.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: But she was like, there's only one rule, it has to be made in America.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: And if you wrap it, it has to be wrapped in America-made paper or newspaper or something.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: So I bought a pincer ticket.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: And so that was fun.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: It was the only concert I'd gone to by myself or whatever.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: So I thought that was kind of cool.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: Different experience.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: And then probably Carrie Nation is being a good one.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: And that's a good one.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they're just so different than the other versions.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: So I try to give one of each category for you guys.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: Because there's a wide range that I'll enjoy.
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: Of course, I love Abandoned Kansas too.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: But I'm thinking a little larger venues.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: What about you?
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: So I was thinking purely, just selfishly, what I thoroughly enjoyed.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: ZZ Top.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: We built a lot of library on ZZ Top.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: In fact that if you were to look at the high beam cane, it kind of looks like the ZZ Top illuminator album a little bit.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Just enough different.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: And sorry.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: They're not going to sue us.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Two-thirds of them are dead.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: No.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Too soon.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: So ZZ's Top number three.
- 25:58SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Number two, the Metallica Pantera concert.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: The remote two in Budapest.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: This last yeah.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: You've been the big ones.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: But my son.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: We were 60,000 people in a soccer studio.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: It was pretty awesome.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've never been to anything that big.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: My son and his best friend, and we that's we went to Budapest.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: And it's a memory for all of you.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: And they could drink beer.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: Add to their experience.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Number one.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Don't laugh.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: Who's it?
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: T Swift, too.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: No.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: It was T Bane.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: No, it's kidding.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Another T.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: It was Tony Bennett.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: My favorite album, and I listen to everything.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: But my favorite album is this Katie Lane Tony Bennett album.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: It's a duet.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: Off the list.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: The whole album is a tribute to Louis Armstrong.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: It is the best martini drinking music you will ever find.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: And if I'm making supper in the kitchen, having some 29 crimes.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: However many crimes.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: A lot of crimes, guys.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: A whole bunch of crimes.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: I'll throw that on and just play it on Bluetooth.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: And it's just a nice I love that.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: It's got okay.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: I'll have to look into it.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: Take note of that.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: I've noted.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the Metallica guys are old, but they're the only ones left, really.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:17unknown: Wow.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: It's wild.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've never I want to go to more larger concerts like that.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: It's just that I don't have the time or the money really.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Time is on the new Lamortan Ambat Theater.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: They have cheap concerts, cut expensive alcohol.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Okay, where's the Kansas City, right?
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: We saw Mumford for like 50 bucks.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: Oh, I would have loved to beat it.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: My daughter wanted to go, and I'm like, yes, let's go.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: That sounds nice.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: We are not getting injured.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Check out what they've got coming up for the next year.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: And they have real good concerts.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Noted.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: Hot tip again.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: It's getting good stuff over here.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: And I had a little one Jim.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: I went to the Cohead and Cambria concert.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: I like that because it was nostalgic for me.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: I hadn't listed them in years.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: And then when we went, I was like, this is neat.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: That was fun.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: It was a way to think it was like 2021.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: No, we hung out upstairs.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm in the 30s now.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: I can't be doing that.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: It's dangerous.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: A lot of stuff you stopped doing in your 30s.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: No.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: Or stark.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's things just aren't.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: There's things just not.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: There's a list of both of them.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Collagen.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: Why didn't you say 401k?
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: 401k.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: I started my Roth at 18.
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: You're gonna love yourself.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: You should tell all the children that.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, so it's time to dive in.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: We gotta learn all about this place, learn all about these beers.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: So take us back to the very beginning.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: What was the moment that went from wouldn't it be fun to we're finally doing this thing?
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: So let's back this up.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: So we actually opened in 2013.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: So prior to that, Rick had bought a building.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: This building.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: And he lived here.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: That was his living room.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: True story.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: Oh, that was so funny.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: And I was good friends, still good friends with Jeremy Johnson of Johnson's Garden Center, which Okay, yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: He and I did our MBAs together at Friends.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: And I told him, I said, Hey, I want to leave family business.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: I know I've been there a while, but I want to do my own thing.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty good at drinking beer.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: I want to start a brewery, but I want to build a brewery in Delano.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Rooftop.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: And that's how this started, right?
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: He goes, You should talk to my friend Rick.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: All right, I'll talk to him.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: I bet his beer's out, but I'll talk to him.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, Rick knows the story well.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: And so I come out here and I have a beer with what in with Rick was now in what's the kin line, but that was his little homebrew area.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: And so I go back and I have a beer, and this doesn't suck.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: And he's like, thanks.
- 30:12SPEAKER_04: Thanks.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, I mean this is good beer.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: And what I didn't know is Rick had been to brewing school.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: He had oh yeah, we don't know until he asked fine out straight.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Not very many people have been to brewing school.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Um, we actually have two guys, Ned, also on our team, has been to brewing school.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Very few of those.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: And just started talking.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: He's been brewing for 900 years.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: He's old.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: He tried to brew in about 20 minutes.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: It's impressive.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: How do you stay so young?
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: The beer.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: It's the beer.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: Is it the hops?
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: Just bathe in it.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Drink our beer, you will look young.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: So, you know, and then we finally, he's like, I want to do a restaurant.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I am not your guy.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: I don't ever want to own a restaurant, which anyway.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: So we started talking.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, hey, can we make this go with just a two-barrel brew system?
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Because I actually tried to find him in a Vastor's restaurant.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Nobody was interested.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: I'm like, that's fine.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: So I was like, okay, the two-barrel brew system, the small brew system, is what we ended up using.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Let's do this.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: We made it work.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: And so in doing that, we ended up getting Travis in, who's a microbiologist as well.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Love that.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Science.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: I love the science behind it.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: So what year do you think it was when you implemented that two barrel brewing system?
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: 2013, July.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: So that's a long time.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: When you say barrels, for those of us that don't know, sorry.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: Many people picture just a normal wooden barrel like you would a whiskey or something like that.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: A barrel unit of measurement.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: 31 U.S.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: gallons.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Is a barrel.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: So a two-barrel system is 62 gallons.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: We also now that's our test batch system now.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: And with a 30-barrel system, which is 930 gallons of the game.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: So how many lots of beer if you're allowed to share this anyways?
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: 113 cases?
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 413 cases with the nine.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: The big one, yeah.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: So if you were to drink a pint a day out of one of the big tanks.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: And really, who only drinks a pint?
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: But if you were to drink a pint a day, how long do you think it would take you to drink one tank?
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: There's what?
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: How many pints in a gallon?
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: Eight?
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: That is gonna feel like an idiot if I'm wrong.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: I know, I am not a math girl.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: Close to that.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: So whatever that math is.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: Do you know the answer?
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: What is it?
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: So many.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: I don't have paper and a pen.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: It is slightly over 20 years.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: That's impressive.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: Forever.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: And that's what we make that we brew that in a day, and then it takes two to three weeks to ferment.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: And then you're able to supply all over with that as of now.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, and soon South Dakota.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: That's really cool.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: And I love that what you started with is now able to be your test batch area.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: That's beautiful.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: We still use it.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: We bring it in, bring people in to do some fun stuff for yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: Seasonal kind of stuff that you're testing out.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Test things out.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Your unicorn poofs, maybe.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: Okay, try.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: Sorry, keep going.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: I interrupted.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: You're good.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Anyway, it's funny.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: We of course you heard me say, oh my god.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Never one owned a restaurant.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: We actually owned part of a restaurant.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: And we did start the poorhouse.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: So on the that side of the poorhouse, which is now the depot.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Because don't start a restaurant the year before COVID.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: In case you were wondering, right?
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: And especially in a downtown part of a city.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: So the whole city was a donut.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Everybody on the outside was working.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Nobody works.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: The lawyers, the accountants, they all work from home.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: They didn't nobody was downtown.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:29SPEAKER_03: So just everybody was kind of iffy about rule or even wanted to go anywhere or whatnot.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: We had a patio that helped, but yeah, we lost a six-figure number monthly.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: So much.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: The way that still affects everything is insane.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: So we just talked to the Ziggy's guys.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: We're like, hey, you guys are good at running restaurants.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: We're gonna make a beer.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: Let's do this.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: You guys joined in on this, and like, yeah.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of how that worked.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Took a few beers and pizzas, but we gotta figure it out.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Hey, that's usually how great things are figured out.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: And they're awesome partners to work with.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Can I emphasize that enough?
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: They're just fantastic guys.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: We love Ziggy's for sure.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Yes, both your boys worked there.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Yep, that's true.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I got Nicholas working up at Manhattan.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: Ziggy's now too just in a while.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: I've been taking the boys to Ziggy's since they were bitty babies since since Ziggy's opened.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: I think we got pictures of Jamie and Ryan out here brewing with us.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's so cool.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: 20 on the walls.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: That would be huge.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: That would be really cool.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I'd have to find they're probably way back in Facebook if you want to look.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take a look.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna have to go nose time.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I also want pictures of who did you say it was Rick or not?
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: The lift here?
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: You should take pictures of him in his old little own room like from back then and put them up in there.
- 35:50SPEAKER_03: That would be so precious.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: So cool.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Not precious, sorry.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: When we precious works too.
- 36:01unknown: Of all things.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: A flea market.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Of all things, he says.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: So Rick's wife and mother-in-law had a flea market and they used all this area.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: We were confined to what's now the canning line, just that small, skinny.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: Oh boy.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: That boy is gay in the garage.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: 700 square feet of it.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: And our first bar top was that bench over there.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, nice.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: We got on Facebook or not on Facebook, on Craigslist.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was a thing.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: We got that for 50 bucks.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it was a crazy deal.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: People would walk in and they would smell the beer and they were looking for beer, but they saw the flea market.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: And the ladies were super annoyed and they were over it.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: They're like, send it back.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: They're like, go back there.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: So that's funny.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: And we used to, when the ladies would leave, we had, of course, access to all the flea market stuff.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: And they had a hover round.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: And they had a hover round that there's a high little beer, by the way.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: And we had races.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: I still hold the fact this last time.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: Boom, boom.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: You had to wear a pink sombrero.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: With a beer in hand.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Turn three was always a little tough.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: Coming around on the if you knock some stuff off, you had to pull the five buttons on the counter because yeah, I mean, this isn't the you know the best racetrack area.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: No.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: Especially flea market items in it.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: That's impressive.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: I imagine those are some tight turns.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I bet.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: That sounds like fun.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: What did you think opening a brewery was going to be like versus what it actually has been like?
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Truth be known.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know that we really knew what we were getting into.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: I on the business side thought, oh, I can sell good beer if she can make good beer.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, we sales meetings.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: And yes, those there are those, right?
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: But there's always it's so much more of hey, the grain didn't show up today.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: We're 50 pounds short.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Could you ask Dan Norton if we could borrow?
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Or can you deal with this?
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: Or yeah, logistics of it.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: There's so much more of oh hey, your work cop rate's going up this year, blah, blah, blah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Just stuff, right?
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: And so it does zap the fun out of it sometimes.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: But this is the fun part, right?
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Can you have to talk about beer?
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: You can drink beer.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of road warrior time going in, too.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: So I had the rental car for two weeks.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: 1300 miles.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: Did you take it out of state?
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: This is all in state.
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I guess with that, what's your I want to ask you your least favorite and then your best favorite part.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: So what's your least favorite part about what you do?
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: There is a time here.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: It's right now.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Oh where I'm just like, dude, I'm so done with events.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Because it's six or sometimes seven days a week.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Luckily, this event this Friday is this Friday.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: My Saturday is free.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: You have a little break time after.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: So that's my probably my least favorite.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: It's just when you hit that burnout from all the events.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: And I love people.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: I love beer, but there is a point where I'm like, dude.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: You need your culture and you're quiet.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Could be a t-shirt.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: Yes, you're merch, baby.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: We're gonna come up with merch.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: Or on the bottom of socks.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: Have you seen those words?
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: Like, if you can read this, please bring me a gum of beer.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: Or you can read this.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: I need culture quiet.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Facebook too much.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: I see that on Facebook.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's good.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Okay, then what's your favorite part?
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: Honestly.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Other side of the coin.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: I enjoy talking to people about beer.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: I know that sounds crazy, right?
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: It can't be really the same thing, but I really do enjoy season starts, and you're like, dude, I've got all these favorite beers.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: We need to talk, try these and do this.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: And I love that part.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: There just is a point where it is a lot, right?
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: So it kind of sounds to me like your favorite part is the community because without the community, you couldn't have this valuable conversation.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: And we actually do a lot of not to two different, we do a lot of good in the community.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: We give a lot of stuff away.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: To people that ask are like, hey, can you give this auction item away or do this?
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: Or a tour.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: And people bid on.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: I had somebody bid on a tour with me for four thousand dollars.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't have paid that.
- 40:35SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Like, you know it's with me.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: I'm like, really?
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Are you?
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: It was not.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: I don't know, man.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: I was crazy.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: But it raised like four grand for the voice castle.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's really great.
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: Is there a detail besides the bench over there in this building that most people will just walk right by, but actually has a really cool story behind it?
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: How long have we got?
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the whole upstairs.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Was a brothel.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: You did not know this, apparently.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: We did not know brothel burning air.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: So from what about 1923 until just after the war, Goldie had a place upstairs.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: It was two dollars.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: It was a dollar in Wichita.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: This was the highfalutin oil money out here.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Boozy.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: It was one of three brothels in town.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: And there's a big newspaper article on this.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: It's pretty interesting.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: And so Goldie ran her place, and you can still see there are places upstairs, and I'll show you later, where the sheetrock kind of juts out from the wall, and there were two chimneys behind each of those.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: And there was probably what two, four, six, eight, ten, twelve, fourteen, sixteen rooms.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: She was in running something for sure.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: Each room.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: And then when Rick remodeled, he found a bunch of bobby pens under the floorboards.
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: Because that's how they kept their money.
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: As with Bobby Pins.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: And actually the money collects.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: If you see any of the floor joys that are doubled up, the doubled up one, the straight one is the new one, the one that sags is the old one.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: And then there's still nails in there.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's pretty crazy stuff.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: That is so cool.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: Wild.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: We did history.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: Do I and look?
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: So inflation for the two dollars, there's like 38.50.
- 42:44unknown: Yeah.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: And I've never paid for that service.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: It seems cheap.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Still seems like they were getting underpaid.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: But it was interesting because the El Dorado Police Department allowed that to go on.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: They knew about it, of course.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: Allowed it to go on because they were trying to shut down illegal beer joints.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: That is amazing.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: So we thought that was really fun.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: These are actually pictures of the building.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: And it was a bakery, it was a grocery store, it was a creamer downstairs.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: All the while upstairs was that is so crazy.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Had a separate entrance and everything.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: That is crazy.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: There were so many things that happened in this one building.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if the walls couldn't speak, oh my gosh.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: I'd need earplugs.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: I guess Jay is speaking for him.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're right.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: And there was, I don't know if he's still around.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: There was an old fellow that used to come in and he would tell stories because he was the newspaper boy.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: And he had to wait upstairs for his dime for the week.
- 43:49SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: And then of course he was just like getting his own biology class.
- 43:56SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was super old.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: He was nine years old ten years ago.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: He's maybe not around.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: Wow, how is that?
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: It could be a good thing.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: For those of you that aren't able to see it, which is everyone, there's a Halloween figurine over there.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Enjoying himself with a cigar, but he looks a little scary.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: I don't think he smoked.
- 44:25SPEAKER_03: Okay, not him.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: Not him then.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: That's funny.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it's uh I like architecture history too.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: Man, and now you're expanding.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: So we're putting another building in next door.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: And we need another warehouse.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: It'd be more than a warehouse with packaging.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Our last one, so about 18 months ago, burned down because there was a homeless guy broke in and decided to light the place up, leave.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: They caught him.
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: They held him for 24, 48 hours, whatever, because he gave him a fit name.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: He said his name was Marshall Mathers.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: He was not the real snoop shady.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: He was released and nowhere to be found.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: I'm sure our insurance company would love to speak with him.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: I guess so, but I don't know what he'd be able to give you.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: And that was probably what he's really pursuing.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: So it is what it is.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: Unfortunate for sure.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: But nobody was hurt.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: That's the beautiful thing.
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: I'm sure.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: Except for your bank, I'm sure.
- 45:33SPEAKER_03: But I'm glad to see that you're still able to pursue that endeavor and get it up and going.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:44SPEAKER_03: It's going to be a whole fresh take on it for next year, I bet.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: I know for sure.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: It'll be nice.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: Little extra event space in the front.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Maybe we can put in some bocce ball.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: I think that'd be amazing.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about you could have done this anywhere.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: What is the why is El Dra why is El Dorado the draw?
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: So it is simply the water.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: So Rick laid out 35 water quality reports and specifically chose El Dorado.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: He went through the Wichita water.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: And not to say you cannot make good beer in the Wichita or those.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: You can't.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: But you need an RO system and you need to add back all those salts and minerals.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:27SPEAKER_01: All we have to do here is carbon filter.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: It's a big carbon filter.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: We check for chlorine and chloramines.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: After that, it's off to the races.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: It's the right salinity, it's the right pH.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: Like everything's perfect.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: So it's the limestone that actually serves the lake.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: It's the municipal water supply naturally goes through the cleaning process.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: But it's not just straight from the lake.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: But the lake, that Flint Hills land is rich in limestone.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: And it's also why Emporia has great water.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Also, that that limestone.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: That makes sense.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: So Emporia and El Dorado go back and forth annually for who has the best water.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: Usually it's one and then the other in the fire.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's exactly why we're here.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's cool.
- 47:11SPEAKER_03: Does that have anything to do with the name?
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: Walnut River.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: So Walnut River is what actually fills up El Dorado Lake.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: Boom.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: I knew it.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: Actually, if you go upstairs in our hop freezer, there is a big sticker on there that says Heartland Brewing Company.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: And that's what Rick called it before I joined in.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Rick, do you uh did you vet this name?
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: He goes, Nah, I just use it.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, tell you what, let's just double check that.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: So Google, yeah.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a Heartland Brewery.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: We can call him, but I bet he's not gonna let us use our name.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: So he was in Manhattan, New York, not in Kansas.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay, but still.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: And I called him and I was like, hey, any chance?
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: You'd be okay with this using his name?
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: He's like, I appreciate you calling.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: I'm like, all right, noted.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you got him on the phone for starters.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: We already had like$700 worth of pilsner glasses and shirts.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: And I just sent him a shirt and a pilsner glass.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: I'm like, thanks, man.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: There are a few minutes.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: That's almost super.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: I I like that though.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: That's your first branding.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: We even have rebranding.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: We have rebranding.
- 48:17SPEAKER_03: And we can brand it pretty quickly.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: Were you called Harvin too?
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: No.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: We just rebranded our colors and our farms.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: A little different.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: No.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Walmart, I like that because I think it sticks pure too the very base of what goes in.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: What would you say is the very base of what goes into it?
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: Would you say it's the water?
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: It is the water.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: 95% of that is water.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: Hey, you're not rehydrating.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: So he's gonna love that because he always know how much water there is in beer.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: So right on the door is water, malt, pops, yeast.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: That is the door out of an old building not a block away from here.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: It's a 120-something-year-old door.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: I love the repurposing.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: I think it makes it warm and cozy.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: I think it makes it cheaper.
- 49:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:04SPEAKER_03: But cheaper is more beautiful to me, too, you know.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Like bowling alley.
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, these tables are made bowling alley.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: Bowling alley alley.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: So old Rose Bowl West in Wichita.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: This was actually so you feel how thick this one is.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Versus the thickness of the bar.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: So this was like where everybody's ball lands because they'll smack it now.
- 49:29SPEAKER_04: Oh that makes sense.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: And there's nails every two inches in here.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: So when we cut these.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: There's so many cut nails in half.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: It was nuts.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: They're cool tables though.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: They're sturdy.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: It took at least 30 bears.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: It took at least 30 bears to make the cuts.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: Hey, but you haven't gone through a barrel yet.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: Here soon.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: It seems like you'll have to start cutting more tables.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: Not to get a hat too ahead of ourselves, but we'll uh yeah.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: Push that out a little and add some more seating in here.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: Do we have I don't know where we're gonna get more tables like this?
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: We'll figure something out.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: Always do.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: Something will present itself.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: And I haven't had a chance to do much woodworking in a while, so it'd be kind of nice.
- 50:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I love woodworking.
- 50:25SPEAKER_03: I think it's fun.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: I'm not this yan, I'm not like this this old house or new Yankee Workshop.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Those guys, I'm not that good.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: But it is fun.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, definitely.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: I think I if I had the space, I would totally do more of it.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, yes.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe it'd be something fun to try.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: It's something I've never done before, but I sure loved watching my granddaddy do it.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: He did a lot of woodworking and it was really cool.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: How many fingers did he have?
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: Oh did it.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, so what what has the community here given back to the brewery that you didn't expect?
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't see that question.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: What has the community given back?
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: You did not expect.
- 51:09SPEAKER_01: Man, I tell you, I was very surprised how well received our brewery has been in this community.
- 51:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: We've been very well supported.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: The city of El Dorado, the people of El Dorado, man, it has been tremendous.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: And we greatly appreciate it.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Did not expect it.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: But uh and I think some of those things can get lost in a bigger I live in Wichita.
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:40unknown: Yeah.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: And I don't know that in Wichita that would have happened.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: And nothing against Wichita.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: But in El Dorado, it people are proud of here.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: They even passed a day for us called it Warbeard Day.
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, that's amazing.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: That's cool.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: Heck yeah.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: We would have that on the book channel.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, that is cool.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: Is it September 13th?
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: It is actually hold on.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: Actually, forget what date.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: It might be.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: Jen, is it?
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: I don't know if that's the same day.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 52:09SPEAKER_03: I knew you would know.
- 52:10SPEAKER_03: I was like, she's saying it because she knows.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, no, it's in there.
- 52:15SPEAKER_03: So September 13th.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: It's officially Warbear.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: I didn't realize.
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, so the reason I know that is because obviously I'm wearing their social media post.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: And I recently saw that we're that Warbeard had a birthday, and I'm like, but I would like to know the story.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: I didn't know if it was the birthday, or that's what I had assumed.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: So it's I want to say it's Leif Erickson's birthday as well.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, one of those things.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: But I love that.
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: Warbeard is that's so perfect, Leif Ericsson.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: So and then this is so the very first, funny enough, the very first tap for Warbeard.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: That poster right there.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's on the table that we're recording on.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: So it's Friday the 13th.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: Not a joke.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: 2013.
- 53:02SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Lizard's Lounge.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: Oh boss.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: And it's yeah, it's Mordecai's now for the people listening this day and age, but I remember Lizard's Lounge.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: Rick and I had our day jobs and we were working uh well hundred hours a week.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Oh my fifty here, fifty regular jobs.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: This Friday night we sent in two kegs, and it was the first tap ever outside of the brewery.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: And we get there, and I don't know if you've been to Lizard Lounge, but it was a two-part bar.
- 53:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: It was in like earlier, like late afternoon, early evening was like pissed off aircraft workers.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: And then later it was like music heads coming in.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: So we come in, pissed off aircraft workers.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: There are two dudes at the bar, the owner and Rick and I.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: And then two dudes at the bar get in a fight.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: And I know I worked in education.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I've never seen two adults fighting more.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: That's wild.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: And they're on the floor.
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: What?
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: They're oh, they're really doing it.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: They're going to do it.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: They're warning it out.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: 40% of the bars fighting right now.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: There's only five.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: So I was like, Rick, it's not too late to go back to our day jobs.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: This is maybe not what we want to do.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: And nobody's drinking war beer except for Rick and I.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: I'm like, we're just going.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: We're just paying for our own beard.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: You're paying for your own beard?
- 54:27SPEAKER_03: Terrible.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: We go do this for free about 30 miles easy.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: So that's eight.
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: Eight?
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: They're already fighting o'clock.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: Nine o'clock.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: People start rolling in for music.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: By 10 o'clock, they had drained two kegs.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: We're like, peace out.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: We gotta go.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: Amazing.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: We gotta go get four kegs.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: So we're like, no, we gotta start brewing at four.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: We had a triple brew day on Saturdays.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Because that's the only way we could make it all work.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:58SPEAKER_01: On that small brew system.
- 54:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: Do three batches every Saturday.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Dang.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: That's impressive.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: That is so yeah.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: That was that was the story of that.
- 55:08SPEAKER_03: So it's like the scare and then the aw.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: Like you were because you're like these two idiots, but then you just had to wait.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: Rick and I or the two guys on the bottom.
- 55:17SPEAKER_03: No one's on the bar.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: I was just like these two idiots.
- 55:21SPEAKER_03: Starting something bold and new is very nerve-wracking.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: You think that you'll get judged, or you think you're doing the wrong thing, or you think maybe you don't have you know you have what it takes, but maybe you don't want to commit to it.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: But it's that I think there's always a question.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: There's a question though.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: Like you might think you know what it takes, but then you're like, Do I really know what it takes?
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: Like, and you've learned new things always that with anything in life.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, and even with our podcast, I know we just we just finally were looking let's go.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we did it.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: New jobs, like I've had a couple of those in the long jobs like that too.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: We have a couple of investors.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: One of one of our main guys has just been really there for us.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna say since day one, but early on.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when we first met him, he drew three concentric circles and kind of a bullseye.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: And he said, Hey, this is the small circle, this is the things that and then the next circles, the things that you know that you don't know.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: He goes, but it's the don't know that you don't know that kills you.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like if you don't know there's a problem, you can't fix it.
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: Expand your circles as quick as you can.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Coming to back the community again.
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, is that what you mean by that?
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: And he's he's paying it forward, and you're not being too gross.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's been a great mentor for us as well.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: That's great on the business side.
- 56:37SPEAKER_03: I'm like, hey, I love visualizing diagram, and I'll be there for you.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Hey, Randy, if you run into this, he's like, Yeah, 1978, we had an issue with I'm like, okay, we've been through this.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: So it's nice to surround yourself with those people.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, get mentors.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: That's a huge I got a couple in one in the industry, one outside the industry.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man, key.
- 57:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:02SPEAKER_03: I think level levels for sure.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: Mentors, people that know things that you don't know, ask smart people dumb questions.
- 57:10SPEAKER_03: Like always like always be curious and don't be afraid to ask questions.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: I think you are never done learning.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: The day you're you're done learning, is the day you're done.
- 57:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, that's so true.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: Unless you're in a vegetative sick, or you just very, you know, not a good person thinks you know everything.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: No, no, you are never, maybe you are.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not ever the smartest guy in the room, and I know that.
- 57:34SPEAKER_03: Huh?
- 57:35SPEAKER_03: No.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: No matter how many people you're in or there's gotta be something.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: One thing I know this, even if the most intelligent person in the room was there, there's something I know that they don't know.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but there's probably lots of things everybody else in the room knows that I don't know.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: Like, absolutely, I would never say I'm the smartest person in the room unless I was with like a bunch of hamsters.
- 57:56SPEAKER_03: Even with hamsters, even vintage, but they probably know their veggies, but I don't know how many.
- 58:03SPEAKER_03: Are there are there 30 or is there three?
- 58:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that's very size related.
- 58:13SPEAKER_02: So maybe.
- 58:15SPEAKER_02: So I have a question.
- 58:17SPEAKER_02: How does a beer go from an idea to a handle?
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, so medalite beer itself.
- 58:24SPEAKER_01: No, because it's it's a berries when we are throwing out ideas.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: We use a lot of sticky notes, and we usually use that refrigerator.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: I love sticky notes.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: And why?
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: And so it actually Ben would lead that.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: So I don't know what we're doing next year with that, but we'll figure it out.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's have a conversation.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Maybe you want to take that place.
- 58:46SPEAKER_02: Sounds fun to me.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: So we we would look at about how many beers we think we're gonna want, and then we start throwing out different ideas, like it's very conceptual, and then we go, okay.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: Rick and Travis, they speak Native to each other.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: We can do this, we're gonna take a half a gallon of alpha, blah, blah, blah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: I'm like, have fun, just make it work, man.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're like, Yeah, we can do that cherry salad.
- 59:13SPEAKER_02: I'm like, cool, yeah, put it down, sweet.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: I think it'll sell.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: And that's why we do a seasonal.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: And sometimes seasonals make it up to the full-time roster.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they get to start on the team.
- 59:26SPEAKER_03: Or they can benefit to the next year's seasonal to, I imagine, your other everydays or something.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you get permanently benched, and that's okay.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: Or they get benched for a season and come back, like we've got Coffee Porter coming back.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, where we want people to miss it a little bit.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: Because it's a great year, but you sometimes need to miss it to realize.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: That's so true.
- 59:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so true.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it that FOMO helps drive stuff with the intersectional ears.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: With Warbeard, that's probably why Warbeard does as well as it does.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Because early on, you couldn't always get it.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: It's I don't know, it's just it's so consistently delicious.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_03: And I think it is that I don't even want to say niche anymore because the Burry and Bury Goers are I feel like they're I feel like they are expanded.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: It's okay.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: That's the first time we've ever spilled any liquid on this table.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_03: It's not a party until it's on the spill.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_03: You can't even tell it's spilled unless you want me to sple it up and edit it.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: Do you want me to even remember what happened?
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_03: It's like you were going for your phone.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_03: We were talking about the seasonal, and that made me think, shoot, I lost it.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_03: Oh dear.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: You just wanted to get into another yumkin.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_03: I love that yumkin.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: So much easier.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: We still have the fun red for the chart.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_03: This is all good.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: That's what I was gonna say.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: Is I think this is it, I know you did it for the season, but I feel like it could be a summer run.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: Because it, you know, or whatever.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_03: I feel like it could be all the time.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I would drink it in the summer.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Drink it though a lot.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_01: We're like, you should make this a full-time beer.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, I'm not saying, yes, I know.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_03: You're like, I know all of our stuff's good.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: People said that.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're gonna need you to drink up a lot of beer.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they go whole 900 gallons.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: That's a weird.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: I guarantee I can do it in sooner than 20 years.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_01: I would imagine.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, it's one of those things where we get a lot of feedback and we put it out there.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: We're like, hey, what do you want to see?
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: What do you want to see?
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_01: There's always somebody that's upset about oh, you took away my rearranged, or you took rearrangements.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_01: You'll find something different.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: It's actually coming back.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_03: And you'll find something else you like.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_03: If out of this large menu, if you only like one beer, then I don't think that I don't know.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: Sorry, but get out of here.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_03: You can edit that out if you want.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_04: No, we cut it.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_04: That's what it's like.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: But you relate the two mean, but come on.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_03: There's such a large menu, so I and even more in the fridge.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_03: So there's always something there's always something rotating through.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: We do 20 some odd 22 beers a year, just Walnut River, and then another six or eight for Witch Dope, and six or so for Taller.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: So we're making some beers.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: That does make some beers.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: That doesn't even include the one-offs, yeah, like the Prohibition Lager that we did and things like that.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: So that is cool.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_03: If you like it good enough to where you want to stock it up and you know it's not an everydayer, just stock up on it.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_03: I didn't realize that.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, shelf life-wise.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like uh Russian Imperial style is years.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we have some in a bourbon barrel that's two years old.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: Wow, and it'll be coming out to play at Christmas.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_03: And you said a coffee stuff.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: I do enjoy coffee stuff here and there.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_03: They're so heavy, I can only really drink one, but it is kind of nice sometimes.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: It's like my version, beer version of an espresso vacini.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: Like my not to insult me by saying that.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_01: My two favorite beverages, beer and coffee.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: I agree and like alcohol, so that's a beautiful beverage.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: We had people that would drink that beer, and we didn't understand, they would drink it in the summer.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, the supporter, right?
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's heavy, but it's cold.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_01: Take it camping.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, nice.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: And then we love our idea.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_01: Get our coffee in the morning and we can start drinking.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, dude.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_03: It's good.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: When we did it here right now.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_03: Could you imagine s'mores with a coffee staff?
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: Coffee porter.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_01: Coffee porter.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's it.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: Does not suck.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_01: Does not suck.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_01: Dollop of ice cream is pretty good too.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh man.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_01: Kahlua, not bad.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna do Bailey's Bailey's will curdle.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but Kahlua, yeah.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_03: If you're gonna turn it into this, then it's espresso martini super.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_03: Which we don't judge.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_04: We don't judge.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_03: I don't think you would even need it.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_03: It's already got a good level of everything.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: Just leave it as is.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: Eat it on the side of my ice cream.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: We've had people take it.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_03: So yeah, send me a text when that's coming back.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: But people take it and use it in their cupcake frosting.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, fun.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_01: It's really good.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I thought that's delicious.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_01: The coffee porter frosting was incredible, actually.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_03: Coffee porter frosting.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_03: Gosh.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that makes me excited to start my fall baking and stuff.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_02: My everything baking.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: It's time.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: Let's finally cold out.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_02: All right, BJ.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_02: So if these walls are telling stories 10 years from now, what do you hope they're telling?
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: Big sexy guy that started to breathe.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_01: No, I'm excited.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_04: We're we actually speaking movie quotes around here.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's good.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: Tommy Boy a lot.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_01: What'd you do?
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: What's the question again?
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_02: If these molds could talk in 10 years, what kind of stories would you like them to tell?
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: I think they would tell stories of dude, you wouldn't believe these three crazy guys that started a brewery and didn't take a salary for four years.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: And they just really believed in the product and did it and stuck it out.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: And now they're in the Bahamas.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: But no.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_01: It is nice to make a good quality product that the the people get behind locally, statewide.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: We never thought when we started this that we would be the second largest brewery in the state.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: That is wild.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: Which is crazy.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: And that Warbeard is right.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_01: Top 25 in the world.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: Which is a little crazy in it to tune our horn.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: But it's really tune Rick's when Rick doesn't tune his horn very well.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: Rick does an amazing job.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Our team nobody does the other one's job.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: We do well with each other because we collaborate well together.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: We don't want to do the other one's job for one.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: That's so fair.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_01: But we also have key, we have owners in the key position.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_01: So those positions don't rotate.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: Your head of sales, head of brewing, head of seller never really rotate because it's the same guys.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: We can't leave because we're tied to this with the bank.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: But that has served us well.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: Over the 13 years.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_01: And so it's just one of those.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: I think so many people started a brewery and they thought this would be a fun hobby.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_01: There's dollars tied it up.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: So you gotta be careful.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think the walls would be like, these crazy dudes, it's only 13.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_03: I think they would say, out of all the businesses we've seen in these walls, these three dudes, these three mofos have pulled it off for longer than any of the other ones.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: I think Goldie probably had a pretty good business code.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying for herself, maybe they'd be like, out of all the ones, you stood the test of time.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_03: And I think mostly I respect you guys for your commitment and your consistency.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_01: Appreciate that.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think that is what makes everything, everything go through.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_01: There's a healthy dose of luck.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: And we're okay with that too.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_03: You can't get luck if you're not consistent.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_03: And if you're not persistent, I don't think.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_01: We will show up.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: Probably more than people want us to.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: These guys are here, Ken.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: It don't go away.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_03: I think that that's where you kind of make your own luck.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_03: Otherwise, we're having fun, and you know what?
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: I get to drink at work too.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not too upset about it.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_03: It's not a bad thing.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_02: It's a good product.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_03: It's mostly water.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_04: We learned that's right.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: It's mostly water.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: Just like Gatorade.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_02: It's a high holiday.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_03: Can we say Gatorade?
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Gatorade.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_03: Gatorade sponsored.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_03: Water sucks.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_03: I love water.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_03: Water boy.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: I totally missed that one.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_02: Oh damn.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_01: And I should have got that one.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: No, so we do.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: We will fill up kegs of water for my son that did boy scouts.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: And we would go like off-grid camping.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_01: And we would take kegs of water, and Travis would write high quality H2O.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_03: So funny.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: And we would take my truck would be the water truck and out of eight kegs.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, that's brilliant.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_01: And so the kids would learn how to tap a cake.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_01: If we got parents that were like, hey, my son said to learn how to tap a cake.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_01: I'm like, let me explain.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_03: And this is resourceful.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_01: It was not the keg badge.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_01: This became a candy in college.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: But it was water.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_03: That's fun.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_01: But it worked out really well, actually.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_01: We were on the beach, Padre Island.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_01: No water.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_01: I mean lots of water.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_03: I want to, I would love to be able to because that's my I just buy the big gown things with the little full pads on them because I need to have stuff to wash my dishes and I need to have stuff to drink, and I don't keep floor around me.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_03: So I'm always just buying the big whatever those for you.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: We know if you need water.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, I'll buy you a keg for me a belt of water.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_03: You'd have to teach me how to tap a keg though.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_03: I've never done it.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, just figure out a way to get you a keg and you could just borrow it.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: You can't buy it.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_03: Brandon, yeah.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_03: I'll do that.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_03: I would love to.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: It's not hard.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_03: Did you go to college?
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_03: I did, yes.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: I think this the vital part of college about tapping a keg?
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just take I just stood on top of them upside down.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: I didn't actually tap them.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: Crowd surfing.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_03: A lot of I was in gymnastics, so I guess a lot of body movement.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_03: But I never actually had to tap anything myself.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_03: No, I didn't know the boys always did that part.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_04: Nicely done.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_02: So what's in what's coming up?
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: What kind of exciting things do we have to look forward to with Walnut River?
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: Holy moly.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_02: Holy moly.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_01: So much stuff.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: We are continuing to onboard other breweries that want to make queer with us.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_01: Hell yeah.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: Because they don't want to invest in the tanks.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: They don't want to throw in a for a$200,000 canning line.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_01: Things like that.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: Which helps us pay for ours, which is great.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_01: That's paid off next year.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_03: Happy birthday.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_01: I don't excited.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_01: I never thought I'd be so excited.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_01: But we do have other breweries that are like, hey, we want you guys to make some beer for us.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: That's fantastic.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_01: We'll be glad to do that.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we're talking with some people.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_02: Very cool.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_01: And it helps them out because it's like they get a little mailbox money out of it, like freebie.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: Oh extra money this month.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_03: And you mentioned earlier that you have a couple more events coming up.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_03: Where can people find you at?
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_03: How can they support you?
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_03: Where can they find you at?
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know how quick this podcast goes out, but so okay.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_01: So very next day, right?
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_01: We will be, we will be at Varys Aviation in Forbes Field there in Topeka.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_01: We're actually, it's the swankiest event.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_01: We are pouring beer in an aircraft hangar.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_03: Oh fine.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: With a jet in the corner.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know what kind of interests they have to let drunk people around an airplane.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_01: But for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, it's a student fundraiser for him.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_01: Great cause.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_03: That'll be cool.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_01: And then we have another, we've got Cody's Lagerfest coming up at CSB.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_01: And he does that for mental health, actually.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's awesome.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_03: Where's that?
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_01: So it's Central Standard Brewing, put it on.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_01: And it's gonna be it's gonna be on their website.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, we can put the we can put it in.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can find that.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_01: And I want to say that's November 7th, whatever that sounds like.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's coming right up.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_01: But it's a good fest.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be all loggers.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_01: Fun.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it should be fun.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_03: They usually always have food trucks and stuff out there, too.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: But it's not at the actual park.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_01: The normal brewery.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_03: I'm glad we clarified it.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_01: Funcatorium.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: They're funcitorium.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_01: Two or three blocks away.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_01: Close to White Crowd.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_01: Then we get a couple months reprieve, and then it's Abe and Jake and Lawrence in March, usually, and then it is like 900 of your closest friends.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_01: So it'll be crazy.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_03: It uh sounds like a big one.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: It's a fun one.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, very cool.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_02: So lots to look forward to, especially in the next few months.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: Always.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: Rest is great.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_01: It's a little bit of rest.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_01: Well, we make all of our beer for Christmas stuff coming up well before Christmas.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_03: Okay, good.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: Everybody's getting their Christmas beer, and we're like, yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: We're scrolled down.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_03: Nobody.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_01: Because it's already to the distributor, already out the doors to the retailers.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_03: That's how you should do, yes, absolutely.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_03: Please.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_02: Oh yes, Menace comes out soon.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: Soon in November.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_01: And then nobody drinks in January, so it doesn't really matter.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know whoever came up with that.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_02: That's so dumb.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_02: We support you if you do that.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_01: Until January 2nd.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: Then we're like, drink some more beer.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_02: Who does that drink in January?
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_01: Apparently a huge chunk of the population.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_02: But there are resolutions.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's never.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like dry January.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_01: Should be more like moist January.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_01: I think February 1, we need to have a party.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_03: Welcome back.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, you have to.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_03: February is a great month.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_03: It's my birthday month.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_03: It was just my birthday month.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_01: That was the birthday month.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_03: I'm that person.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_03: I'll be like, eh, it's time to celebrate.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_01: The whole month?
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_01: They're like, it's my birthday year.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_03: Basically.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_03: Every day.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_03: Every day.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_03: Barely go bad in my house.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_01: February one.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_03: 27th.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_01: 27.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_03: So then the whole next month, too.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_03: Because the ones that didn't catch me on my birthday catch after.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: Might as well.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: So basically most of Q1.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_03: We look very joking.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_03: It really set me up for that's right.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_01: Everybody gets mine.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_01: It's all good.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: I'm like actually on Christmas.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_01: And so it's people don't really forget mine.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_01: Like all of my family is like, happy birthday, Merry Christmas.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: We call it birthmas in our house.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_03: That's cute.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_03: No, my sister-in-law's birthday is the same.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_03: It's real close to Christmas.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_01: But I don't know any different.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_01: This is how it is.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: I've been away for 50 years.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_02: And normal.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_03: My dad's is the day before mine, so we've always celebrated together, but it's also like right around the Valentine's Day kind of ish.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_03: Like when I had boyfriends in the past, it was like, oh, we just celebrate everything on one day.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_03: Like they asked me to be his girlfriend on Valentine's Day.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_03: And then my birthday's right around the corner.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_03: So it's just one big chunk.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_03: I remember that happened.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_03: I think that was my first one.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_03: I was like, you cheater.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_03: You little cheap sky.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_03: You little what?
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_03: You know.

- 1:15:52SPEAKER_01: The WalnutRiverBrewing.com.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_01: And then we'll have socials.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: But I have somebody who probably knows more about those.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_01: Facebook and Instagram.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_01: I think X.

- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: For Walnut River Brewing.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_01: I don't think we're on the dating website, so no.
