- Lucas: Hey everyone. Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is so good to be back with you all. Lucas: Today we are going somewhere active. We are heading to the gym. Luna: Oh, wow. I have not done this topic yet. Is it hard to talk about exercise? Lucas: Not at all. It is very practical. You will learn five simple phrases. Luna: I love that. So, what is the first thing you say when you want to work out? Lucas: You say: Ik wil gaan sporten. Luna: Ik wil gaan sporten. Lucas: Perfect. That means 'I want to go exercise' or 'I want to go sport.' Luna: Ik wil gaan sporten. I like the rhythm of that one. Lucas: It is a great starting point. Let us try it again slowly. Lucas: Ik wil gaan sporten. Luna: Ik wil gaan sporten. Lucas: Exactly. Now, where do you go to do this? The place itself. Luna: Is it called something special? Like 'fitness center'? Lucas: In Dutch, we say: De sportschool. Luna: De sportschool. Oh, that sounds strong. Sportschool. Lucas: Yes. De sportschool. It combines 'sport' and 'school'. Luna: De sportschool. Okay. I am going to the sportschool today. Lucas: Good sentence. Let us put them together now. Lucas: Ik wil gaan sporten. In de sportschool. Luna: Ik wil gaan sporten. In de sportschool. Lucas: Nailed it. That is two phrases down. Three to go. Luna: I feel confident already. What if I do a specific type of exercise? Lucas: For example, maybe you prefer stretching over lifting weights. Luna: Yes! Yoga. How do I say I do yoga? Lucas: You use the verb 'doen', which means 'to do'. Say: Ik doe aan yoga. Luna: Ik doe aan yoga. Wait, 'doen aan'? Is that right? Lucas: Yes. Ik doe aan yoga. It literally means 'I do at yoga'. Luna: Ik doe aan yoga. That feels nice to say. Very calm. Lucas: Let us repeat it for memory. Slowly. Lucas: Ik doe aan yoga. Luna: Ik doe aan yoga. Lucas: Right. So you are at the sportschool, doing yoga. What next? Luna: I need to pay for it. Do I buy a ticket? Lucas: Usually, you get a membership. We call that an abonnement. Luna: Abonnement. Okay. How do I say I have one? Lucas: Say: Ik heb een abonnement. Luna: Ik heb een abonnement. Got it. I have a membership. Lucas: Perfect. Let us practice the flow. Lucas: Ik heb een abonnement. Luna: Ik heb een abonnement. Lucas: One more phrase. After you workout, many people relax. Luna: Yes! The sauna. Everyone loves the sauna after a workout. Lucas: So you ask if it is open. Say: Is de sauna open? Luna: Is de sauna open? Is that formal or informal? Lucas: It works for both. Just check the hours. Luna: Is de sauna open. Simple and useful. Lucas: Let us say it together. Slowly. Lucas: Is de sauna open? Luna: Is de sauna open? Lucas: Great job. We have covered five phrases today. Luna: This was easier than I thought. My arms are tired just listening.
