- 0:00Speaker 1: Now yesterday we found out a little bit more detail
- 0:03Speaker 1: about the meeting that was happening out at Zacholi following
- 0:06Speaker 1: on from a raft of break instead of occurred out
- 0:09Speaker 1: there on numerous occasions. Now joining us on the line
- 0:12Speaker 1: for a quick chat to let us know how it
- 0:14Speaker 1: went last night from Ziccole, I g A.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Shelley Lay. Good morning, Shelley, Hi Katie, how are you
- 0:20Speaker 2: going to ask?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Very well? How did it go last night?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yes, we had a great after evening with the community there,
- 0:28Speaker 2: the people that could make it at the police and
- 0:33Speaker 2: the neighborhood Watch who gave us some amazing tips and
- 0:37Speaker 2: victims of crime as well, who let people know as
- 0:39Speaker 2: they are, unfortunately a victim of the support that they
- 0:43Speaker 2: can get from victims of crime.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And did you get a good turnout in the end? Shelley?
- 0:47Speaker 1: How many do you reckon?
- 0:48Speaker 2: You had? You know what, Katie? I did turnd around
- 0:52Speaker 2: in attendance, but I haven't had a chance to count
- 0:55Speaker 2: this morning. It was a little bit slow to start off,
- 0:58Speaker 2: but as for the night went on, we did have
- 1:02Speaker 2: a good crowd there. So look, I say about eighty
- 1:07Speaker 2: people came along and look, it's a hard time too,
- 1:09Speaker 2: because they've all got dinner and kids. You can't expect
- 1:12Speaker 2: everybody to be there at the one time. But we
- 1:16Speaker 2: did have a vote at the end, and people wor
- 1:19Speaker 2: king to get this going more regularly. So what we'll
- 1:22Speaker 2: do is we'll hold another one in a month's time,
- 1:25Speaker 2: so for people that weren't able to attend, to give
- 1:28Speaker 2: them a chance to come along as well.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And Shelly, you said, you know, it's a hard time
- 1:32Speaker 1: because it was a hard time of the day in
- 1:34Speaker 1: terms of being dinner time and that kind of thing.
- 1:36Speaker 1: But it's also a hard time because there's lots of
- 1:38Speaker 1: people at the moment who are feeling a bit I
- 1:41Speaker 1: suppose apprehensive maybe of being out and about because there
- 1:45Speaker 1: is quite a large deal of COVID in the community.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's made a lot of businesses have to kind of
- 1:50Speaker 1: change the way they're doing things a little bit. And
- 1:52Speaker 1: I understand that even just today you guys have launched
- 1:55Speaker 1: a bit of a click and collect so that people,
- 1:56Speaker 1: if they are worried about it, don't have to go
- 1:58Speaker 1: in store.
- 2:00Speaker 2: That's right. We've been getting a lot of phone calls
- 2:04Speaker 2: from the community. So we have just done our website
- 2:08Speaker 2: and hopefully we'll be launched this afternoon so that people
- 2:11Speaker 2: within the community who do want to contact us click
- 2:13Speaker 2: and Collect can just reverse their car in, call a
- 2:16Speaker 2: number and we will pop the groceries into their boots.
- 2:19Speaker 2: So that's a massive undertaking for a little independent like us,
- 2:24Speaker 2: but the community is calling for it and we want
- 2:26Speaker 2: to provide the community with as much support during this
- 2:28Speaker 2: time as we can.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Hey, Shelley, I do want to ask you very quickly,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and I know a lot of the details yet to
- 2:34Speaker 1: flow through, but during the week that was this morning,
- 2:37Speaker 1: we did have one of the ministers on evil LAWLA
- 2:39Speaker 1: and she said that there's going to be a five
- 2:41Speaker 1: million dollar economic stimulus package for struggling businesses around the territory,
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Business Hardship Package. I'm not sure if that is
- 2:48Speaker 1: something that you know, the business like yours or our
- 2:52Speaker 1: other supermarkets and you know IGA's and independent grosses around
- 2:56Speaker 1: the place will be able to take advantage of or not.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I don't know the details of that, Katie, But what
- 3:02Speaker 2: I would like any assistance with is the extra freight
- 3:06Speaker 2: costs that has skyrocket.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Due to these to the trains and the truck's not
- 3:13Speaker 3: being able to get through. Right, there's a lot of
- 3:15Speaker 3: extra hours that truck drivers now need to put in
- 3:19Speaker 3: an extra thirty hours I'm told so our freight.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Bill has gone up astronomically and I would love some
- 3:28Speaker 2: help with that peticilly so that that then doesn't have
- 3:31Speaker 2: to get passed on to the consumer in the long run.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Very good point, Shelley, when you talk sort of percentage wise,
- 3:40Speaker 1: like how much are you talking that that freight bill's
- 3:42Speaker 1: going up?
- 3:44Speaker 2: Oh? Like double oh wow. Yeah, it's a lot because
- 3:48Speaker 2: if you're talking extra thirty hours, they've got to put
- 3:50Speaker 2: more people on the truck because they're driving through New
- 3:53Speaker 2: South walest Queensland up to Mount Isa than a coss.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I mean, it's the extra case that they're having to
- 3:59Speaker 2: do from out Australias that'stronomical. So the freight people they
- 4:03Speaker 2: charge us more like it's just it's just how the
- 4:05Speaker 2: world works, so that the consumer doesn't have to or
- 4:09Speaker 2: the businesses don't have to put the bill for this
- 4:11Speaker 2: and make a loss. I would really love to support
- 4:14Speaker 2: government support for that. Yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Fair cool, Well we'll talk more about that, Shelley. Lay
- 4:20Speaker 1: always appreciate your time. Thanks for the quick chat this morning.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Thanks Katie, thank you. Weekend you too,
