- 0:00Get my. Street ahead, Get my.
- 0:02Head in the game. With the.
- 0:04Red light. On I'm.
- 0:05Just waiting for the change. Hi, Jay Fallon and thank you for
- 0:12listening. So this week in March, I'm
- 0:15recording this on the 7th of March 2026.
- 0:18The week has just gone by. We have had several shootings,
- 0:23several shootings, police shooting civilians in two of our
- 0:27great states, Queensland, they shot two people.
- 0:31NSW shot two people as well. Three of these shootings all
- 0:35happened on one day, March the 3rd.
- 0:38So just quickly on the 2 Queensland ones first.
- 0:41So on March the 3rd, you've got the police shooting incident in
- 0:46Tingalpa involved a 21 year old man who was shot by officers
- 0:50after threatening them with a knife during a welfare cheque,
- 0:54very important welfare cheque. So they've gone to check on his
- 0:57welfare bang end up being shot. The man died at the scene.
- 1:02Senior constable sustained a minor graze to the ear.
- 1:07When they say a minor graze to the ear, as in he was shot a
- 1:11minor graze by a bullet, it wasn't like a minor graze
- 1:15because he tripped and grazed his ear.
- 1:18So, you know, they can't leave a little bit of that out anyway.
- 1:20So he was, he, he got grazed by the bullet from his partner.
- 1:25So the whole laser rule has gone way out the window.
- 1:29So the incident is under investigation by those two
- 1:32great, great departments in the Queensland Government Ethical
- 1:36Standards Command and the Crime and Corruption Commission.
- 1:38Great. Anyway, so he had another one on
- 1:42the March the 4th 2026 a separate incident involved a 31
- 1:45year old man shot by police after fleeing a car crash.
- 1:50This this numpty seems like he was trying to get shot and it
- 1:54might have been a little bit of a maybe just putting it out
- 1:58there. Maybe this was a bit of a plan
- 2:00of, you know, suicide by cop, which is ridiculous because you
- 2:04just, you got to feel sorry for these police officers because
- 2:08you know, they're just trying to they, they think they're going
- 2:10to a car crash next minute. All mates pulling the gun
- 2:13anyway. So the man was shot but later
- 2:14taken to the hospital in stable condition.
- 2:16This incident is also under investigation by those two great
- 2:19and wonderful command units, ethical stands standards command
- 2:23with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
- 2:25So what could go wrong? It goes on to say that these
- 2:28incidents highlight the ongoing challenges and complexities
- 2:31faced by police. Yes, yes, yes.
- 2:33OK, so on March the 3rd, let's look at these three shootings
- 2:37that all happened on the one day.
- 2:38So one of these happened in Queensland March the 3rd and
- 2:41then two on in New South Wales. So you've got this man who was
- 2:46wielding a knife. He was fatally shot by
- 2:49Queensland police officers in on the third.
- 2:52So the latest report was saying that they were there.
- 2:56Queensland Police responded to a welfare cheque.
- 2:59They were requested to go to a welfare cheque in Thurston St in
- 3:03Tingalpa. 10:30 AM. Officers at the scene were
- 3:06threatened by the man. That's what they're saying,
- 3:09Threatened by the man, However he was shot after making
- 3:13continued threats at police. Medical assistance was
- 3:16immediately rendered, however the man died at the scene.
- 3:20Queensland Police Union president Shane Pryor told
- 3:22reporters the intending officers had attempted to subdue the man
- 3:26with a Taser before opening fire.
- 3:29I, I don't think Taser's, not in any way while trying, while
- 3:33trying to detain that person, that male person has lunged, OK,
- 3:37they say it, he has lunged at police with a knife.
- 3:40The entire incident has been caught on body worn camera and
- 3:44I'm confident on the briefing I've received today that all
- 3:46police are justified, authorised by law in the actions that they
- 3:51took. OK.
- 3:52I mean, one of them did, you know, graze the other one with
- 3:55the bullet, with one of the bullets.
- 3:57But yeah, everything's kosher. Shane Price says these officers
- 4:01were confronted with an extraordinary dangerous
- 4:04situation and they should be very proud in the way that they
- 4:06responded. Deeper sympathies go to the
- 4:09family of the male person that is deceased today because
- 4:13someone was called around to his house to go and check on him
- 4:15because people were concerned for his welfare and we shot him.
- 4:20Crikey. Obviously.
- 4:22Acting Chief Superintendent Heath McQueen similarly
- 4:25justified the officer's actions. So then you've got this incident
- 4:31in two incidents in New in New South Wales.
- 4:33The first incident occurred at a unit block on Honeysuckle Drive
- 4:37in Newcastle about 8:30 AM. Northern Operations Support
- 4:41Group and Northern Region Domestic Violence High Risk
- 4:43Offender team attended the property to arrest a man wanted
- 4:47on fire. Outstanding arrest warrants.
- 4:51When officers forced entry into the unit, 36 year old man
- 4:55confronted them with a knife. 2 Tasers were deployed, however
- 4:58both were ineffective against the man, NSW Police said in a
- 5:02statement. The man allegedly continued
- 5:04threatening officers with the knife before a police officer
- 5:08discharged A firearm, shooting the man.
- 5:13Got to make you OK. The 36 year old man sustained A
- 5:15gunshot wound to his shoulder. Yeah, OK.
- 5:20So it I'd love to see the footage on this.
- 5:24He's continuing threatening the police officer discharged.
- 5:27OK. The man was taken to John Hunter
- 5:29Hospital. OK, so officers then there was
- 5:34another shooting. Officers were called to a unit
- 5:35block on Saint Neot Ave following reports an armed man
- 5:39had entered the complex and assaulted two women with a
- 5:42knife. The man threatened attending
- 5:44police with the knife before an officer fatally shot him.
- 5:48The two women were hospitalised for head and facial injuries.
- 5:51All incidents are being investigated by the Ethical
- 5:54Standards Commission. OK, look, I'm not, you know, I
- 5:57wasn't there. I'm not going to say anything
- 5:59about whatever the actions these officers took in the heat of the
- 6:02in the heat of the moment, this is how it goes.
- 6:05You pull a knife, we all know this is what's going to happen.
- 6:08However, I firmly believe police, there's a reason why,
- 6:14especially Queensland police, there's a reason why we have
- 6:17more shootings, more police shooting civilians than ever
- 6:20before. And Queensland police shoot more
- 6:24civilians than the last couple of years.
- 6:27Every state in some in some years has been every state
- 6:30combined, they have shot more people than every state
- 6:33combined. There's a reason why we have so
- 6:36many reports of, hey, can you go around do a welfare cheque and
- 6:40then the person ends up getting shot and killed, the person
- 6:43you're supposed to be checking on because supposedly someone is
- 6:46concerned for their welfare. Someone knows that they're,
- 6:51they're not in the right state of mind.
- 6:54Can I suggest maybe, maybe sending people around who are
- 7:00not trained to deal with mental health, people who are suffering
- 7:04a mental health episode, who are not trained, who cannot handle
- 7:11pressure, cannot handle stressful situations.
- 7:15And then you go and arm them with guns, Tasers, spray, all
- 7:20that jargon, arm them with all these things, and then you send
- 7:24them around for a welfare cheque.
- 7:26The person who's already having a mental health episode then
- 7:30feels threatened, feels caged in, doesn't want to talk to
- 7:33them, has a knife out. He's making threats to himself.
- 7:36I mean, they were called around, I believe I'd read there that
- 7:39they were called around because he'd be making threats to harm
- 7:42himself. So instead all that happens is
- 7:45someone else comes around and harms him and ends it all.
- 7:50Are we really doing this the right way?
- 7:51Are police doing this the right way?
- 7:54And why aren't they looking at other options?
- 7:57Why there have been so many shootings over the last couple
- 8:00of years where police go around to do welfare cheques and that
- 8:03person gets shot, person gets killed and still nothing has
- 8:08changed. Nothing has changed.
- 8:11As I said before, if nothing changes, then nothing changes.
- 8:15If you continue to get called to people, to situations, jobs
- 8:20where people are have having a mental health breakdown and you
- 8:24continue to just do the same thing, take the same action,
- 8:31just send police around to deal with the same situation and then
- 8:35you continue to have police shooting people who are having a
- 8:39mental breakdown, you can't be surprised.
- 8:43You shouldn't be surprised. Things need to change.
- 8:46Something needs to change. Shane Pryor, you need to be
- 8:51pushing change, not just standing up there backing
- 8:54officers, saying no, no, everything's all right,
- 8:56everything's all good. You know, forget about the fact
- 8:59that one of the officers shot the other officer, you know, hit
- 9:04him, hit his ear. It's just a graze, whatever.
- 9:07Forget about all that. You know, it might suggest that
- 9:10maybe maybe someone wasn't handling A stressful situation
- 9:13properly and you know, maybe they shouldn't have been in that
- 9:17stressful situation. But anyway, things need to
- 9:21change. Our police services, our police
- 9:24forces around Australia need to change the way they do business.
- 9:27You can't just continue to go to these jobs where people are
- 9:30called because they're having a mental health issue.
- 9:33You call to these jobs and then, oh, OK, they had a knife.
- 9:38You have to change tactics. You, the police have to change
- 9:41mental health. These people, they're not going
- 9:44to change some. They're the ones in crisis.
- 9:48The ones that can change are the police forces, the police
- 9:50services in our nation. They're the ones that need to
- 9:53change their tactics. They cannot keep doing the same
- 9:57thing and expecting a different outcome.
- 10:02But will anything ever actually change?
- 10:04Well, you know, we're sending around Ethical Standards Command
- 10:07in the Crime and Corruption Commission to investigate this.
- 10:10And we are sure that they will back police and nothing will
- 10:12have been found negligent on police's behalf.
- 10:17This is all just my opinion. Please let me know what you
- 10:18think. I believe they need to change
- 10:21tactics. They need to look at themselves
- 10:24and think what can they do better?
- 10:27Especially Queensland Bliss saw my opinion.
- 10:29I'm Jeff Fallon, thanks for listening.
- 10:31They. Just feel the desire they will
- 10:36take me higher. I'm on fire because nothing's
- 10:41gonna bring me. Down.
- 10:48Nothing's going to hold me down and nothing's going to stop me
- 10:53now, and no one deals to be done and I'm not going to stand on me
- 11:01and nothing's going to stop me now and nothing's going to hold
- 11:06me down. Got my eye on the eyes, got my
- 11:10side on the ground it seems no sight, nothing 's going to.
- 11:28Nothing's going to stop me now. Nothing's going to hold me down.
- 11:34I got my eye and the pride's going to settle down.
