- 0:01Speaker 1: I'm good. I'm good. I'm still basking in the glow
- 0:05Speaker 1: of my first official Waymo Tampa Bay ride yesterday. I
- 0:10Speaker 1: got a little notification. Oh, my.
- 0:11Speaker 2: They've come to his town.
- 0:13Speaker 1: They've come to Tampa, and they came right by the
- 0:16Speaker 1: airport where I was in my office yesterday. Got a
- 0:18Speaker 1: little ding-ding notification. Waymo's now in your area. I thought, ooh,
- 0:23Speaker 1: all right, let me try it. So I got out
- 0:24Speaker 1: the app. I had an errand to run.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I was going to say, so did you just for
- 0:29Speaker 2: the sake of doing this, did you go take a
- 0:30Speaker 2: ride that you didn't even really need to take?
- 0:32Speaker 1: No, no. You just wanted to do it. No, no.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I was going to fire up the roadster, the station wagon,
- 0:38Speaker 1: and go downtown. And that's about a 30-minute, 25, 30-minute
- 0:40Speaker 1: ride on a normal day. Now, if I were Ubering it, $ 30, $ 40,
- 0:42Speaker 1: maybe $ 50, right? Sure. Bing, bing. I do my little
- 0:50Speaker 1: Waymo app. Up pulls the car. I had Tracy record it.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We're going to do a big feature of it on
- 0:55Speaker 1: the show today.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The driverless car pulls up to the radio station.
- 0:59Speaker 1: A white Jaguar with a big, huge dome. Looks like
- 1:02Speaker 1: something out of Lost in Space. Yep, pulls up. MG
- 1:07Speaker 1: initials are flashing on the dome for me. I get
- 1:10Speaker 1: in the back seat. Hello, Mike. I said, well, hello.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And I'm like, dummy, I'm talking back to it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's like I do with Chad GPT. It's my friend.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I talk to these people. Or this thing.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Did you thank it?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I did. I said, great ride. No, I got in
- 1:25Speaker 1: the thing, and you got to put your seatbelt on.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You push the little button, start ride. Whoop, off we go.
- 1:31Speaker 1: 25 minutes into downtown Tampa for me to run my errand.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Guess what? $ 14. 37. That's incredible. That's so great.
- 1:41Speaker 3: But what's not so great, every Uber driver right now
- 1:48Speaker 3: listening to you and me, Every taxi rider, every car
- 1:52Speaker 3: service driver, they all know that– and I do hate
- 1:57Speaker 3: it for them.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But it is coming. And I hate it at the
- 2:01Speaker 1: expense of these hardworking men and women who make a
- 2:04Speaker 1: living this way. Unfortunately, the technology is here. I was
- 2:07Speaker 1: talking to a friend, and I said, you know, this
- 2:10Speaker 1: is so cool. I got all kinds of work done.
- 2:13Speaker 1: In the 25 minutes, I'm in the back seat, and
- 2:15Speaker 1: it's smooth, and the car changes lanes, and it does
- 2:18Speaker 1: everything right.
- 2:19Speaker 2: You could have gotten the work done with a human driver.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Well, for about 10 times the cost.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Okay, there you go.
- 2:26Speaker 1: All right. All right. So I'm in the back seat
- 2:28Speaker 1: doing all the work. I'm on the phone. I was
- 2:30Speaker 1: trying to call you. You were completely ghosting me yesterday
- 2:33Speaker 1: because I wanted to FaceTime you. I was going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: show you in real time what was going on. Oh,
- 2:37Speaker 1: that would have been awesome. I know. So anyway, I
- 2:39Speaker 1: said to a friend, I said, you know what? Someday
- 2:42Speaker 1: I want one of these. I want to buy one.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And we laughed. We thought, wouldn't that be cool? Why
- 2:47Speaker 1: couldn't you– A Waymo. I want to buy the car.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I want to have a... I want to have a
- 2:53Speaker 1: driverless car. I want to have a car where I.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But you can have a driverless car with a Tesla.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You can have a driverless car with.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Not... No, Mark. It's the whole... It's not the same.
- 3:01Speaker 1: With a Tesla, you're in the front seat. You're driving.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You still got to pay attention. You still... You can't
- 3:06Speaker 1: take your eyes off the road.
- 3:07Speaker 2: You can't... So you can buy a driverless cab.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I don't know that you can yet. I don't know
- 3:14Speaker 1: that you can. But what I'm saying is... That's my point.
- 3:18Speaker 1: It's coming. I think it's coming. And someday... Americans are
- 3:22Speaker 1: going to be driving around. Incidentally, it's enormously safer. These
- 3:27Speaker 1: cars are safe. They're good. They react. They respond. I
- 3:32Speaker 1: had a guy yesterday, a motorcycle, some hotshot motorcyclist, some kid.
- 3:36Speaker 1: He kind of cut in front of the car. Car
- 3:38Speaker 1: immediately slowed, swerved, got out of his way. So it's safer,
- 3:43Speaker 1: it's more economical, and it's much more relaxing. Do you
- 3:46Speaker 1: know what it's like? How would you like to get
- 3:48Speaker 1: out of the Davis compound at 3 in the morning,
- 3:52Speaker 1: whenever you go to work, you get in the backseat
- 3:54Speaker 1: of a car, you're doing all your show prep, it
- 3:56Speaker 1: drives you right to the radio station? Mark, this is happening.
- 4:01Speaker 2: This is the future. And all the safety thing, because
- 4:04Speaker 2: the comedy bit that I've been doing forever is that
- 4:07Speaker 2: I'm going to get in the thing and it'll drive
- 4:08Speaker 2: me off a bridge forever. Or that it'll hit somebody.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And I still don't know how these things, because the
- 4:13Speaker 2: eyes on this car, they notice traffic lanes, stoplights, stop signs.
- 4:18Speaker 2: They do all those things. But the cop waving people
- 4:22Speaker 2: through if there's been an accident, I have no idea
- 4:24Speaker 2: if the car can even do that. But even with
- 4:26Speaker 2: all those things all put together in a bowl, as
- 4:29Speaker 2: a net function, the robo driver, of course, is going
- 4:34Speaker 2: to be safer. There was a story. that the car
- 4:38Speaker 2: was going along and something dropped off the back of
- 4:40Speaker 2: a truck at the same time that somebody to the
- 4:42Speaker 2: right rear in the blind spot of the car was
- 4:44Speaker 2: coming up too fast, a human driver would have absolutely
- 4:47Speaker 2: hit something.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And this driverless car just went bing, bing, bing, immediately
- 4:54Speaker 2: evaded everything.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It pivoted. Well, there's going to be, and look, mistakes
- 4:58Speaker 1: are going to happen. It's not infallible. But the net
- 5:02Speaker 1: positive is that fewer mistakes will happen with one of
- 5:05Speaker 1: these autonomous cars than when you're driving. And I can't
- 5:08Speaker 1: even get over how just relaxing and experienced it is.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So anyway, that was, we're going to, we're going to.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Last thing on this, because it is societal. I'll tell
- 5:17Speaker 2: you who told me after I tell you what he
- 5:18Speaker 2: told me.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Sure.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Somebody told me probably more than 10 years ago, before
- 5:23Speaker 2: any of this became a big wave, told me that
- 5:27Speaker 2: America's future will involve very few people, owning their own cars.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And it will be through an app. There'll be so
- 5:36Speaker 2: many of them that you're within, there'll always be a
- 5:39Speaker 2: car within three minutes of wherever you are. And I scoffed.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I said, please, I'm from Texas. I'm a man. I
- 5:44Speaker 2: always want my own car, which, by the way, is
- 5:46Speaker 2: exactly how I feel. But should I be beaten into
- 5:49Speaker 2: submission on this? Maybe. The person who told me that,
- 5:51Speaker 2: my old lib sparring buddy on some of the old
- 5:54Speaker 2: Flashpoint segments on Channel 8, Domingo Garcia. famous abogado here
- 5:59Speaker 2: in Dallas. He said, well, this had to be 14,
- 6:03Speaker 2: 15 years ago. He might have been a visionary on that.
- 6:06Speaker 2: The notion of personal car ownership will go the way
- 6:09Speaker 2: of the dinosaur.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I got you. Well, and here's a text from North Texas,
- 6:13Speaker 1: very optimistic about Waymo in the future. Texas writes, Dallas writes,
- 6:17Speaker 1: Waymo is great until it stops on a live railroad
- 6:20Speaker 1: track and you're running for your life. There is that.
- 6:24Speaker 1: All right. Speaking of your friends and from Domingo to
- 6:28Speaker 1: somebody else I want to bring up, you and I
- 6:30Speaker 1: are going to talk today to a fascinating guy on
- 6:33Speaker 1: the Eminem Extra podcast named Manning Kimball. Now, he owns
- 6:37Speaker 1: the radio station that we're on in Rock Hill, South Carolina, WRHI.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He's the grandson of Admiral Husband Kimmel, who has been
- 6:46Speaker 1: unfairly maligned over Pearl Harbor. He was scapegoated for Pearl Harbor.
- 6:50Speaker 1: He got dereliction of duty, they said, and he didn't
- 6:52Speaker 1: do anything wrong. He's been exonerated. And the Kimmel family
- 6:55Speaker 1: has been trying for 50 years to just get a
- 6:58Speaker 1: change of rank that would basically exonerate him because of
- 7:02Speaker 1: what he suffered through after Pearl Harbor. And it's a
- 7:07Speaker 1: fascinating story. There's a great book that he's about that
- 7:10Speaker 1: we're going to talk about on the podcast. A Matter
- 7:12Speaker 1: of Life. A matter of honor is– that's all they're
- 7:15Speaker 1: asking for, the Kimmel family's– and no president. They do
- 7:18Speaker 1: not want money.
- 7:18Speaker 2: They do not want money. They're not looking to turn
- 7:20Speaker 2: this into a lottery ticket.
- 7:21Speaker 1: No.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And you may be thinking, listen, the admiral has been–
- 7:25Speaker 2: the admiral, excuse me.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Admiral. Admiral. Admiral.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Has been dead for a long time. What does it matter?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Legacy matters. Honor matters. And that's why this fight continues.
- 7:34Speaker 1: The fight continues. And guess what? I'm about to throw
- 7:37Speaker 1: you a curveball of all curveballs. For 50 years, the
- 7:41Speaker 1: Kimmel family has been trying to get president after president,
- 7:44Speaker 1: defense secretary after defense secretary, anybody. They won't even look
- 7:47Speaker 1: at it. They don't even give the guy, the family,
- 7:49Speaker 1: the time of day. And Manning now feels Trump might
- 7:53Speaker 1: be our answer. The Trump administration, the Biden administration, he
- 7:57Speaker 1: said he saw Joe Biden in person. He knew him
- 8:00Speaker 1: from Delaware. And Biden said, wasn't this fixed already? And
- 8:04Speaker 1: they didn't do anything about it. Big shock. Biden was
- 8:07Speaker 1: wondering who ordered the veal cutlet, what was on the menu.
- 8:09Speaker 2: There am I.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so Trump is their maybe last hope. That would
- 8:13Speaker 1: be awesome. Well, guess who's real close with the Secretary
- 8:20Speaker 1: of War? Guess who could get this done? And you
- 8:23Speaker 1: know this is right up. Pete Hegseth's alley, right?
- 8:26Speaker 2: This is something like a thing to honor an honorable
- 8:29Speaker 2: man and to write a smear that was wrongly done
- 8:32Speaker 2: in the fog of war, and we're all real angry
- 8:34Speaker 2: about Pearl Harbor, which I totally understand, but it's like,
- 8:36Speaker 2: we've got to find something. There are still people walking
- 8:38Speaker 2: around who think that FDR knew about it, which is ridiculous,
- 8:41Speaker 2: in advance, which is ridiculous, but who's the connection here?
- 8:45Speaker 1: You want to be a hero? You want to know
- 8:47Speaker 1: who the connection is? You know who's really tight with
- 8:50Speaker 1: Pete Hegseth? Your best friend Your admirer, Fox News Channel star.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Will Cain.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Will Cain. Will Cain.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Well, sure, because Will's been on Fox for a long time.
- 9:06Speaker 2: The reason everybody knows about Pete Hegg said this when
- 9:08Speaker 2: he did a weekend show on Fox.
- 9:11Speaker 1: There you go. So Mark Davis, you have a chance
- 9:15Speaker 1: to change some history here. You've got an opportunity.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Let me put that in their camp.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I mean, you're only over there every other day.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I had a day off yesterday.
- 9:24Speaker 1: You're a regular. They're going to rename that show with
- 9:27Speaker 1: the Will and Mark show. I better watch my back.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I've got to be careful. M and W. So the
- 9:33Speaker 1: next time you see Will Kane, can you please bring
- 9:37Speaker 1: this up to him?
- 9:38Speaker 2: I'll give him the book and throw him a little
- 9:41Speaker 2: email and say, listen, if you've been talking to Pete.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Not only the book, but Manning has a one sheet
- 9:47Speaker 1: that he gave to me to try to see if–
- 9:50Speaker 1: I think people think I hang out with Trump every weekend,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and believe me, I don't. But I want to talk
- 9:55Speaker 1: about Trump here in just a moment, too, because something
- 9:57Speaker 1: pretty amazing happened last night. Say that to him. one sheet,
- 10:00Speaker 1: and I'll relate that to them. If you can get
- 10:02Speaker 1: that to them and get that into Will Kane's hands,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you just may be the hero of the year. And
- 10:07Speaker 1: you already are my hero. And let me talk about
- 10:09Speaker 1: a heroic president last night. Did you hear what happened
- 10:12Speaker 1: in the detail? He got in last night. What were
- 10:14Speaker 1: you doing at 3 this morning?
- 10:16Speaker 2: Sleeping.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Sleeping. You and me both. We're snoring, right? Three in
- 10:19Speaker 1: the morning. Trump is just now getting off the plane
- 10:22Speaker 1: after two rallies. He's now crisscrossing the country for the
- 10:25Speaker 1: next 32 days. This man is indefatigable, as the word goes, right? Yesterday,
- 10:30Speaker 1: he had a rally in Oklahoma. The weather was bad.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And they were worried about security. Because they couldn't fly
- 10:36Speaker 1: to Oklahoma, and they said, nope, security-wise, we're not. Trump said,
- 10:43Speaker 1: how fast can my limousine go?
- 10:45Speaker 2: You know, you would call it by its name. The Beast.
- 10:47Speaker 2: How fast can the Beast go?
- 10:49Speaker 1: How fast can the Beast drive? They said, well, Mr. President,
- 10:52Speaker 1: go close to 100 miles an hour. He said, we're driving.
- 10:56Speaker 1: He wouldn't let down the thousands of Oklahomans.
- 10:59Speaker 2: It's okay. Give the quote. It's PG-13, but that's all right.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Get your asses in that car. We're going to Oklahoma. Yes!
- 11:08Speaker 1: That's our president. That's our president. And the crowd went wild.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I may get T-shirts made. Get your asses to Oklahoma.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Exactly right. I mean, how great. That's the spirit, though.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You know what this is starting to feel like? And listen,
- 11:23Speaker 1: that time he came up short when he was sick
- 11:25Speaker 1: with COVID and he's campaigning in the final weeks. The
- 11:28Speaker 1: stadiums were filled. Biden's in the back parking lot with
- 11:31Speaker 1: six cars honking. This is the home stretch, my man.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We got 32 days. And I'm telling you, there is
- 11:38Speaker 1: a vibe shift. CNN is saying it. Even the Democrats
- 11:42Speaker 1: are starting to say, you know, it's going to happen.
- 11:44Speaker 1: You know, it's going to happen. They're going to rig
- 11:45Speaker 1: the election. They're starting to predict that the Republicans are
- 11:48Speaker 1: going to cheat November 3rd. You want to know why?
- 11:50Speaker 1: They're seeing internals. I like our chances. I was going
- 11:54Speaker 1: to wonder if I was going to get the Mike Gallagher.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I like our chances. We're not supposed to win, but
- 11:59Speaker 1: I think we very well may. It's in our hands.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It is in our hands. Operation Prove Them Wrong is underway.
- 12:05Speaker 1: We're going to prove the pollsters wrong, the media wrong,
- 12:07Speaker 1: the troublemaking obstructionist Republicans wrong.
- 12:10Speaker 2: It is in our hands to do it. And if
- 12:11Speaker 2: we are focused and if we got our act together,
- 12:13Speaker 2: we can. I am choosing to believe.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Show up, show up, bring granny, bring everybody, bring your friends,
- 12:20Speaker 1: bring your neighbors and let's go vote. I love you.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Have a great weekend. I'm taking, I'm going, you've got
- 12:25Speaker 1: a couple of days off coming up, so I'll be,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm taking a few days solo for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but we'll be back together again on Thursday. But today,
- 12:32Speaker 1: don't forget this great conversation with Manning Kimmel, a problem
- 12:36Speaker 1: that Mark Davis might just be able to solve. I'm
- 12:38Speaker 1: heading to a place where there's some sweater weather and
- 12:40Speaker 1: which I'm kind of excited about. I want to be
- 12:42Speaker 1: a little chilly and, And then back Thursday from New
- 12:45Speaker 1: York City. I'll see you from there Thursday, Friday. And,
- 12:48Speaker 1: you know, here we go. Off we go through October,
- 12:50Speaker 1: my friends.
