Speaker 2: we will be helped by your word and by your spirit,

Speaker 2: We know, Father God, that you are the way, the

Speaker 2: truth in the life, and that no man comes to

Speaker 2: that you will draw by your Holy Spirit, draw every

Speaker 2: draw them by your spirit into the Kingdom in Jesus' name,

Speaker 2: we're going to get into the Book of Revelation. We're

Speaker 2: in chapter two. Chapter one. We looked at the background

Speaker 2: of John the Apostle, John John the Revelator, and we

Speaker 2: looked at some of the things that happened in chapter one,

Speaker 2: which one of them was identifying the deity of Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2: Jesus himself said that I am the Alpha indio omega

Speaker 2: to be beginning and in behold, I was alive, I died,

Speaker 2: and I live again. So that's just kind of paraphrasing.

Speaker 2: But we see that Jesus himself claims deity. He claims

Speaker 2: the same title that God the Father claims, the Alpha

Speaker 2: and the omega, the beginning and end. So we broke

Speaker 2: that down. We broke down the number of completion is

Speaker 2: number seven. We broke down the Trinity, and we broke

Speaker 2: down the three sections of the book the past, Present,

Speaker 2: in future. When John was instructed to write down, he said,

Speaker 2: the things that you've seen, and what did John see?

Speaker 2: He saw the life of Jesus Christ. He saw his death, burial,

Speaker 2: and resurrection, so we know that that happened about two

Speaker 2: thousand years ago. And then the second section is the

Speaker 2: things which are present, and that speaks of the church age,

Speaker 2: and so that's what we're gonna look into today. These

Speaker 2: are the letters to the churches, and this is the

Speaker 2: period of time that we are currently in. This is

Speaker 2: our present, and then we're gonna look into the future,

Speaker 2: the things that shall come and prophecy. The rest of

Speaker 2: the book is gonna take us out into the future,

Speaker 2: which I believe is our very near future. So I

Speaker 2: don't think it's a coincidence that we're jumping into the

Speaker 2: Book of Revelation because I believe that this will be

Speaker 2: our survival manual for the times that are ahead, and

Speaker 2: hopefully and prayerfully none of us have to go through this,

Speaker 2: that we will be ready and waiting when the Lord returns. Amen.

Speaker 2: All right? So the first letter to the Church is now,

Speaker 2: this is Jesus himself. This is his report card, this

Speaker 2: is his instruction, his evaluation. So we really need to

Speaker 2: pay close attention and find out where we are, where

Speaker 2: do we land in this Now, before we get into it,

Speaker 2: I want to make a point that the Holy Spirit

Speaker 2: placed on my heart today, we're living in a time

Speaker 2: where the church is under valued. People have a flippid

Speaker 2: attitude about the church. You hear people say all the time,

Speaker 2: I don't need to go to church to have a

Speaker 2: relationship with God, which that is partially true. But if

Speaker 2: we want to live a life of obedience, we need

Speaker 2: to get plugged into a healthy church. Now. We know

Speaker 2: that there are bad churches out there. We know that
9:20
Speaker 2: there are corrupt pastors, corrupt prophets, corrupt members in churches.

Speaker 2: There are churches where Jezbel has totally taken over the church. Yes, yes,

Speaker 2: I have to agree with you on that, but God

Speaker 2: always has a remnant. There are churches out there that
9:46
Speaker 2: are still faithful, holding up the standard, holding up the
9:50
Speaker 2: word of God, walking in truth, and they are fighting

Speaker 2: with all their might against this anti Christ spirit that

Speaker 2: is coming on the land today. For the simple fact

Speaker 2: that Jesus took time out to send out seven letters

Speaker 2: to these churches shows us how important church truly is,

Speaker 2: how critical church truly is. He could have sent out

Speaker 2: a letter to all the believers who stay at home

Speaker 2: and don't go to church, right, Or he could have

Speaker 2: sent a letter to all those who think you don't

Speaker 2: need to go to church have a relationship with God. Right,

Speaker 2: he doesn't even pay attention to that group. All of

Speaker 2: his focus is on the churches. God is a God

Speaker 2: of structure. Church is God's idea. Church is God's institution.

Speaker 2: And the reason why I'm saying this is because a

Speaker 2: lot of people have given up on the church or

Speaker 2: they think the church is not essential. Who can remember

Speaker 2: that even during COVID they tried to call church non

Speaker 2: essential when in here in the Book of Revelation a

Speaker 2: couple of chapters are dedicated to the church. Even the

Speaker 2: New Testament is in the context of the Church of

Speaker 2: believers coming together and how we're supposed to rule the

Speaker 2: kingdom together, how we're supposed to act and behave all
11:45
Speaker 2: that is pertaining to the church. And I don't know.

Speaker 2: To me, that was just like a eye opener, Like

Speaker 2: I really don't think he addresses anything outside the church.

Speaker 2: So I don't know that food for thoughts. Hopefully that

Speaker 2: helps somebody out there. Amen. So this church is the

Speaker 2: Church of Ephesus. Chapter two, verse one, to the Angel

Speaker 2: of the Church of Ephesus. Right these things, says he

Speaker 2: who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who
12:30
Speaker 2: walks in the midst of the seven golden lamp stands. Now,

Speaker 2: I want you to notice something here. When he addresses

Speaker 2: these churches, he starts off with a description of himself,

Speaker 2: and he talks, and he describes himself. He says that
12:53
Speaker 2: those things say he, And he's talking in the third person, right,
12:59
Speaker 2: who holds the seven stars in his hands? So he's

Speaker 2: describing himself. He is saying that I am the one
13:08
Speaker 2: who holds the seven stars in his hands, and I'm
13:12
Speaker 2: the one who walks in the midst of the seven
13:15
Speaker 2: golden lamp stands. So he's holding and he's walking. Now,

Speaker 2: if church wasn't important, why would Jesus do all that? Now,

Speaker 2: Jesus is speaking directly to the church of Ephesus right here,
13:35
Speaker 2: reminding them that he walks in the midst of his church.

Speaker 2: Jesus is always acting very interested. The seven stars are
13:46
Speaker 2: the messengers, or you can say the pastors of the churches. See,
13:50
Speaker 2: there's structure, there's a leader, right, there's somebody who's in charge.

Speaker 2: Just like in the family, the husband is the head
13:59
Speaker 2: of the house. So the pastor has the leading role

Speaker 2: in the church. Right, and the lamp stands represents the
14:08
Speaker 2: churches themselves. So a lamp stand. The purpose of a

Speaker 2: lamp stand is to hold up the light, and that's
14:16
Speaker 2: what the church is supposed to be to the world.

Speaker 2: We are supposed to hold up the light of Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2: Now Jesus, he's not distanced, he's present and he's active

Speaker 2: in the life of his body. So that shows us

Speaker 2: the nearness, the closeness of our Lord to his church

Speaker 2: and to this particular church Ephesus. And I like the

Speaker 2: fact that he describes himself, he describes who he is,

Speaker 2: and he talks about what he does. He's like, hey,
14:50
Speaker 2: I'm walking and I'm holding And I believe that we
14:57
Speaker 2: need to practice this as believers need to describe who

Speaker 2: we are. We need to wake up in the morning

Speaker 2: and say, I am a child of God. I am
15:07
Speaker 2: he who seeks the Lord. I am the one who
15:10
Speaker 2: engages God. Every morning, like, can you describe who you are?

Speaker 2: I am a follower of Christ. Right, that should be
15:21
Speaker 2: the first thing we do every morning is describe ourselves
15:25
Speaker 2: or even ask the Holy Spirit to give us a
15:29
Speaker 2: description of who we are. Right, it might be helpful.

Speaker 2: It could help us correct a few things. Right, and
15:40
Speaker 2: man well, that's just a thought, but I thought that
15:43
Speaker 2: was interesting how he starts off these letters with that
15:48
Speaker 2: short description. Now, in verse two and three, he says,

Speaker 2: I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that

Speaker 2: you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have

Speaker 2: tasted tested those who say that they are apostles and
16:08
Speaker 2: are not, and have found them liars. And you have preserved,

Speaker 2: and you have persevered. And I'm sorry you have persevered

Speaker 2: and have patience and have labored for my namesake and

Speaker 2: have not become weary. Hemen, this is good right here.

Speaker 2: Now the Lord gives emphasis a strong a compliment right

Speaker 2: or I'm trying to say commendation, a strong commendation. Here.

Speaker 2: This was a church of action. They had strong discernment,

Speaker 2: and they were very spiritually. They had spiritual endurance. They

Speaker 2: had endurance. They they did not grow weary. They the fakes.

Speaker 2: They were able to expose these impostors. And how much

Speaker 2: more do we need this gift in the churches right now?

Speaker 2: We need this gift to function in the church today,

Speaker 2: Like yeah, you know, we would definitely say this is

Speaker 2: great and want to covet these things. Excuse me, God,

Speaker 2: I clear my throat here now but guess what, though,

Speaker 2: even strong churches can miss the mark in one critical area.

Speaker 2: And that's what we're going to focus on pretty much

Speaker 2: the rest of this podcast because it's very critical and

Speaker 2: it's something that the Lord has shown me just yesterday,

Speaker 2: something that I had to get right and repent of,

Speaker 2: and so I want to share it with my podcast

Speaker 2: audience and my family. First of all, in verse four says, nevertheless,

Speaker 2: I have this against you. You have left your first love.

Speaker 2: How critical? How critical is that? First, let me say this,

Speaker 2: I love the structure of these letters. I love the
18:38
Speaker 2: way the Lord deals with us. First of all, he
18:42
Speaker 2: describes himself, and I believe one of the reasons why
18:45
Speaker 2: he gives a description is relating to his nature. He
18:49
Speaker 2: is the becoming one. Everything that we need is found
18:53
Speaker 2: in him. So if you're thirsty, I believe he will
18:58
Speaker 2: describe himself as the one who give us water freely. Right.

Speaker 2: I believe that's how he would reveal himself to you. Right,

Speaker 2: if we're poor, he would say, I'm the one who
19:11
Speaker 2: owns the cattle on a thousand heel, you know, or
19:15
Speaker 2: something like that. So he it also if he needs

Speaker 2: to correct or even judge, right, I'm the one who
19:23
Speaker 2: will give THEE according to thy works. I believe that's
19:30
Speaker 2: that's how that how that works. If if you have

Speaker 2: something different or something you know, hey, we're a family

Speaker 2: here posting a live chat, and let us know your

Speaker 2: thoughts about that. And then secondly, he talks about what

Speaker 2: they're doing good like. He doesn't just go in and

Speaker 2: be like, oh, yeah, that church had lost they first

Speaker 2: love yeah, you know, and then started blah blah blah

Speaker 2: blah blah. Bah. No, he says, I know your works.

Speaker 2: He acknowledges their good deeds, he acknowledges the things that

Speaker 2: they're doing. They're exposing liars and stuff like that, strong discernment.

Speaker 2: All this stuff is great. And then he gets down

Speaker 2: to the issue. I have one thing against you, and

Speaker 2: love it. If Jesus says he's got one thing against us,

Speaker 2: I don't know. In many cases, there might be a

Speaker 2: whole bunch of things, but one is enough. We need

Speaker 2: to take heed, we need to pay close attention and

Speaker 2: so that we can get it right, and then he'll

Speaker 2: give us the remedy. So I love it. I love

Speaker 2: it like I I deal and interact with people that

Speaker 2: they'll just go in on you. You ain't this, and
20:45
Speaker 2: you ain't blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. You know,

Speaker 2: and now they'll stay on it for you know. They

Speaker 2: don't give your remedy, they don't give you a chance,

Speaker 2: they don't try to compliment you. They just focus on
20:55
Speaker 2: your fault and your failure. But praise God, Jesus does

Speaker 2: not deal with us in that matter. As a matter

Speaker 2: of fact, I believe that's the spirit of condemnation that

Speaker 2: people are operating out of. When God works out of

Speaker 2: a spirit of conviction, he will convict us of the issue.

Speaker 2: Then he will give us the remedy and help us.

Speaker 2: And that's the difference between Christianity and other false religions.

Speaker 2: They offer no help. They don't even have the power

Speaker 2: of the health. They couldn't help if they wanted to.

Speaker 2: We can only get help through the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Speaker 2: So now let's look into this issue. Nevertheless, at verse four,

Speaker 2: here I have this against you that you have left

Speaker 2: your first love. There it is Jesus is saying you're

Speaker 2: doing good things, but you're not doing it out of

Speaker 2: love for me anymore. Maybe you started out doing it

Speaker 2: because you loved him, but then your love grew cold.

Speaker 2: Now this should hit this should hit every believer right

Speaker 2: in the heart. That should hit us right in the bullseye.

Speaker 2: Are we serving out of duty or out of devotion?

Speaker 2: Has our fire faded? And only you can really answer that.

Speaker 2: I know that in times in my ministry operating a

Speaker 2: Christian club, I know that I grew distracted. I didn't

Speaker 2: intend to. It was not my intention to walk away

Speaker 2: from my first love, and it was it was like distractions.

Speaker 2: Things come up that distract us. Right, Sometimes we can

Speaker 2: love what we do for the Lord more than we
22:56
Speaker 2: love the Lord, and some of us discuss what our gifts,

Speaker 2: some of us, especially if you have a background like mine,

Speaker 2: where you know, I felt I come from an abusive background,

Speaker 2: so I felt like I was worthless. Like like Jesus

Speaker 2: gave me purpose and showed me that I have gifts

Speaker 2: and talents and abilities that He's placed inside of us. Now,

Speaker 2: what God has for us is there is not going nowhere.

Speaker 2: He has a great plan, he has stuff for us

Speaker 2: to do. He's given us gifts. The Bible tells us

Speaker 2: that the gifts are without repentance, right, our gifts are

Speaker 2: without repentancies. He doesn't like he doesn't take our gifts

Speaker 2: away from us. But the question is, where is the intimacy?

Speaker 2: Where is your intimacy with the Lord? Where is my

Speaker 2: intimacy with the Lord? If we're lacking love, we missed it.

Speaker 2: Remember even in Ephesian chapter fourteen, when they're talking about

Speaker 2: the gifts, about prophecy and speaking in tongues, and even

Speaker 2: if I give my body to be burned in all

Speaker 2: my possessions to the poor, but lack love, I have nothing.

Speaker 2: Now let's think about it. Let's go all the way

Speaker 2: back to the book of Genesis. What did God have?

Speaker 2: Or should I even say this? What did Adam have

Speaker 2: that he lost? What was the one thing in that

Speaker 2: garden that was lost between God and man? It was

Speaker 2: the intimacy. God would come down in the who of

Speaker 2: the day to spend time with Adam, with his son

Speaker 2: in eve. The intimacy was broken. What do you think

Speaker 2: God is longing to restore? What? Why do you think

Speaker 2: he died on the cross? Was it because of your gifts?

Speaker 2: Because he likes the way you sing, or likes the

Speaker 2: way you go work out in the field, or like

Speaker 2: what is God longing for more than anything else? Think

Speaker 2: about it? It's a relationship. Think about our own relationships.

Speaker 2: What makes a good, healthy and strong relationship is when

Speaker 2: you spend time with each other, the intimacy, when a

Speaker 2: husband spends time with his wife, they have date night,

Speaker 2: or they have time just one on one with each other,

Speaker 2: when the parents spend time with their children. And time

Speaker 2: is the most expensive thing that we could spend. Once
26:08
Speaker 2: we spend that time, we can never get it back.

Speaker 2: I can spend a dollar and I can get a

Speaker 2: dollar back, but I can spend five minutes with somebody

Speaker 2: and I will never be able to get that five
26:26
Speaker 2: minutes back. Time is the most valuable thing that we have.

Speaker 2: So think about what do you spend your time on

Speaker 2: and who do you spend your time with. We talked

Speaker 2: about the church the ecclasea and the meaning is we

Speaker 2: are the called out ones called out to what. We

Speaker 2: understand that we were called away from the world, but

Speaker 2: we're called to God. And what does that mean? We're

Speaker 2: called out, We're called away from Netflix, we're called away

Speaker 2: from the Internet, our phones. We need to find time

Speaker 2: to have some one on one time with our Father,

Speaker 2: with our God. That is the one thing that God

Speaker 2: really wants to restore and remember Matthew Chapter seven, and

Speaker 2: I believe it's verse twenty five twenty or twenty five,

Speaker 2: the one of the most scariest verses in the Bible

Speaker 2: that says that didn't I prophesy in your name? Didn't

Speaker 2: I do many wonderful works in your name? Didn't I

Speaker 2: cast out devils in your name? And Jesus says, I

Speaker 2: never knew you. Depart for me, you workers of iniquity?

Speaker 2: Do we know him? Have you taken time out to

Speaker 2: know him? We better get to know him and get

Speaker 2: to know him well. And this is convicting with me

Speaker 2: because I've struggled. I don't have this altogether as critical

Speaker 2: and as important this is, like this was convicting to

Speaker 2: me going over this, like where is my intimacy? There's

Speaker 2: times where I get busying it one, two or three

Speaker 2: days go by and I haven't been intimate with my Lord,

Speaker 2: and then I try to play makeup. I try to
28:37
Speaker 2: you know, Okay, well, this weekend, I'm gonna go in.

Speaker 2: You know, I'm gonna spend extra time, like uh huh,

Speaker 2: I'm repenting right now. It's easy to fall in love

Speaker 2: with what we do, but we all know at the
28:55
Speaker 2: end of the day, it comes up venting. You gotta

Speaker 2: be into meant with our Savior, with our killing. Amen.

Speaker 2: You gotta come back to our first love. And we

Speaker 2: gotta stop walking away from our first love. Heymen. Now,

Speaker 2: in verse two, chapter five, it tells us how to

Speaker 2: get it right right and says, remember, therefore, from where

Speaker 2: you have fallen, repent and do the first works right.
