Transcript
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: in your life, a lot of things that worked will stop working.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that is not assigned to force it to work.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: It is assigned to get curious about what will work so you can get back into alignment.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor and fitness business coach.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, be it, babe.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: We are back with more episodes for that permission to change series because you requested it.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: You asked, we've had two already.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: You can go back and listen to them, or you can listen to this one.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: They all stand alone a little bit on their own.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: And this one is actually because this one's a little more nuanced, and that it's about niches.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: niches is typically thought about as in the niche, the riches are in the niches, like what your business is.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have to be that you're not an entrepreneur and then you should actually be a habit or a daily routine or a role in your family.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that there's a way to and every here niche, you can think of like alignment versus alignment, right?
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so I want to talk about that, but thanks for being here.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: This is a solo episode week, so we'll have two episodes in our permission to change series.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: This one and we'll have another one.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: They'll kind of go together.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I like doing these.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you like listening to them.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you hate them, let us know.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you love them, I would love to hear that too.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is something you want us to talk about more.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: We can do that as well.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I wanted to say like I think a lot of us at the time that you're actually listening to the podcast, the age that I imagine you are, you have built stuff in your life or in your career or a daily routine, something you have created a role in your family or in your friendship group and on paper it looks really good and maybe even for a while it felt really good at some point good things can.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: we cannot grow them, right, to fill a little suffocated, frustrated, you want to change it.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: What I will say is like, some of us will in the burning our whole life do, but that's not actually a good idea.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it is, but most of the time we just need to extract ourselves from the situation like surgically remove that and evolve it, right?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: have a couple stories for you.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: So when I'm told before, when I'm told in different ways, a different topic, but it's really applicable.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I had really created a good job for myself, the company I worked for.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was known in it.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: I was successful.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: People in power knew who I was.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'd impressed them.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I had a pretty locked-in schedule.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I had power and control.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like,
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: I could do a lot of things, right, and I was on a day off, and I saw an alert on my phone from a boss that I had, and it just sent me into like a panic attack.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because while I had created, curated everything that I thought I wanted, I had been doing it for quite some time, and had just gotten a little stale and suffocating
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know that you could create your own velvet handcuffs, but that's what I did.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say in that instance, I did not blow everything up.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: I actually sat down with Brad and thought about, well, what do I want to do if it's not our fingers?
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then how do we carefully like build that up so that I can extract myself from this thing that I've curated?
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Because you outgrow it.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: I will say that job was really great when I needed it.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: In 2010, I had, you know, left my full-time salary job, and I was like, how am I going to make it?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, do you want this job?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, oh, that is how I'm going to make it.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: So it had been a lifeline when I needed it for sure.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then I had created this niche for myself, where I like, I felt so great.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then there was parts of my life that I wanted to evolve.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I couldn't because of this.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: trap that I had, you know, my good on paper trap that I created.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I think it can be really difficult because we want to move faster.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: Ladies, we don't want to ever be seen as a quitter.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Everything should look successful.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so we often don't remove ourselves from things because how we're going to explain that other people.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's so embarrassing.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I took me a long time to get out of a relationship with partner that I knew a year prior to, I really wanted to get out of.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: And you're part of that.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: We even took a break, but like, because it looked good on paper and leaving, there wasn't a good enough excuse in my ADHD brain, like how am I going to do this?
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: What do people in the stay about me?
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: All this different stuff, right?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: It, it really,
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: put me in a position where in 2013 I did blow up my life because that's the only way I could I felt like I had the confidence to actually get out of it.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like I had to do all of it at one time looking back I probably could have done it a little differently, but I'm so grateful.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: You cannot take anyone's rock bottoms away.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: I share all this with you because
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: My love is too often as we're covering professions and over achievers.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: We often are like, well, I said I would do this.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: I've been successful doing this.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: This is the thing that I do.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I have to keep doing it.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: If you always host Thanksgiving dinners, and it's just become a slog.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: My, this is your permission slip to no longer host them.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you are always the one setting up dinners with all the girls, and it just feels like no one ever will do it.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: My, your full permission to stop.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: We are allowed to change our mind, to change what works for us.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Because we are changing all the time.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, your body is changing.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Your body's changes are signs that even your desires for what feels good in your work and life will change.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got to give ourselves those permission steps.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: We give them to other people, mind on ourselves.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: So the thing I think about what I think of a niche is it really is meant to teach you, right?
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: So like data collection, right?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever job or project or event you did, there is data, actual data, not just vibes to go back on.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: And,
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: leaving my Kush job that I curated for myself was not failure.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: I left it on a high note and a lot of people thought I was silly to leave, right?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I had this data that like I have built every single studio brand for them, I have turned it around.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I can do that for other people.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't need this push job anymore because I can do that for other people with my own business that I'm creating.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: And after 10 years of doing that, I felt like I had to evolve again.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you have noticed the change we made at Profile Pilates is started doing that in 2024, big announcement in 2025.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: Here we are in 26, and we have another evolution of it, and it's not because I don't love what I'm doing, and I'm not good at it.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's because what I, well, I am as a coach has changed, and so then the products that I offer have to change,
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: But because I was in that niche because I did it for so long, I have the data to back up that not only can I make those changes and still help people and still have an impact on people and still make it affordable for people, but I can do it and be successful at it.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: So when you have when you are.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: whatever that role is in your family or whatever that project is you've always been doing or whatever or that business you've been doing.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: You have data from every single time to show you that you're really successful doing those things and so you can you could apply that success to and that information and that confidence to everything else you're doing.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Anything else you're doing?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we can be really hard on ourselves, especially my ADHD friends because it looks like we can be flaky because we bounce from one thing to the next, but our brain isn't we're not flaky our brain is like literally looking for a dopamine high.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: So what I highly recommend my ADHD loves real listening is if you feel like you're bouncing all around all the time and you have an actually Doug into a niche to get that data, then you do need to get systems in place you do need to get some support from
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: the ADHD expert who can help you put systems in place so that you can get the data from a niche and then you can a lot find better alignment in other places.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: You can apply that to where you are drawn to for better alignment.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I mean, you have to stick with something you don't like.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not saying that at all.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you do need to have systems in place so you can get the data so you can get the confidence that you can move on so you're not seeing yourself as a flaky person but instead someone who has information and is making better decisions.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that a lot of us are afraid to change our routines, our habits, our titles, our roles, because we are afraid of what people will think.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: They'll think we quit or we must have failed or there's something wrong with us.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so that creates a social anxiety.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: We often feel like we have to figure out a way to
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: articulate it in a way that people can understand us, but my love, that's just your perfectionist talking.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Because I actually think that the people who truly love and care for you don't need you to be perfect, they need to be honest.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: And when you evolve,
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: when you step into alignment, you are actually giving other people permission to the same.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: So for example, when I became a plies instructor, everybody told me to charge less than these other people, because they've been teaching longer than me, like $5.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, that's so, okay, yeah, I get that, like they have more experience than me, but I'm gonna have to work more hours to make the money I thought I could make doing this.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then I was like, well, who are you basing your rates off of?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, oh, we're basing our rates off of this person over here.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, who are you basing your rates off of?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: And they're doing some of this person over here.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, when did you raise your rates last?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: And they were like, oh, I just lowered them because of what's going on with the economy.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: As a holy fuck, everyone is based in the rates of someone who isn't even giving room for anyone to be underneath them to grow.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I love every time you step into alignment, you are creating a permission structure for those around you.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right, the rates I charge for sessions allow people who do have less experience in me to make a livable wage.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, if people around you don't understand what you're doing, one, that's okay.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're allowed to not understand.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: You do not have to explain it to them.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: And two, if they're judging you for it, they're probably not your people, right?
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: So permission to change friends group, friend groups.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I know it's hard, it's an adult.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to make friends, right?
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: Truly difficult.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's a reason why my husband and I are best friends.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: I know people think that's so weird, whatever blah blah blah, honestly like in today's world, you know, for how our lives are, if he wasn't, I would probably not see my friends very much.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: So it's really nice, you know, but he gets me and I get him and we get to give each other reminders to evolve and hey, you're out of alignment.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: So the people around you should actually be like, yeah, I saw this coming.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: And not like, why did you do that because if they truly get you, when they will see that you are out of alignment and then this thing you're doing is stepping into alignment.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: If they are worried about how this affects them, then they'll be like a little frustrated and that's okay.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're allowed to be frustrated.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to do things for other people ever.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, if you go back to our slowing down series.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: You will discover that the more you are curious.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: The more you are able to.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: see what's going on around you the easier it's for you see like oh these are my people and oh those aren't my people not as I mean you ditch them it just means that you don't do things for their benefit you do things for you and if it doesn't benefit them it's okay it is okay my people please those it's okay all right so this is a quick episode but I just wanted to say that like
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: In your life, a lot of things that worked will stop working.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: And that is not assigned to force it to work.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: It is assigned to get curious about what will work so you can get back into alignment.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: This podcast has evolved.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: The niche of this podcast is evolved.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: Because you have, you the listener, me, the host.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have evolved.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: So in order for this to keep working, it has to be an alignment for what we need.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: So if you allow me to step into my alignment, you have to allow you to step into your alignment.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: Can't have standards for other people that we won't give to ourselves?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: We can't give freedom to other people we don't give to ourselves.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: You are so worthy to change things that no longer feel aligned.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: you're allowed to extract the data from the experience you've had to build up your self trust in your confidence so that you know that going into this new thing you're going to be successful over there too because you were successful here.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: You can learn new things.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Look you did it over there.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Go back to that episode with the
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: And guess we had, we would make an applicant who is like a resume builder, right?
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, you need to take stock of all of your accomplishments.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: Every single thing you did, even if you're a part of a team, because it's all part of helping you have self-trips and confidence that you can do new things.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: You can apply that to a new job, apply it to a new niche or a new role or new event.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: All right, take some stock, take some data to collection time this week.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll come back with another episode, helping you find your super power.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're someone who real is your out of alignment and you're not sure what alignment is, we're going to talk about that.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't have to start all the way over, because that's not always ideal either.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, so this different, you need to hear it, and until next time, be a taste yet.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I got for this episode of the B.A.T.A.C.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: at Podcasts.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: One thing that would help both myself and future listeners is for you to rate the show and leave a review.
