- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumontie Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It is Deontay Lee Friday. Deontay Lee of
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Ranga by popular demand has returned.
- 0:26Speaker 2: What's going on, man?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Listen, I like Dominique. I don't need Dominique running down
- 0:31Speaker 3: my back. I'm not trying to take your corners, brother.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Dominique gave that corner away, brother. We ain't trying to
- 0:37Speaker 1: hear that shit from him. It is a rotating corner now.
- 0:42Speaker 1: This is what it is. I also hadn't really noticed
- 0:44Speaker 1: the last time you wanted these persistent hairline cats.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That's... Look, I.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Try to keep it up as much as possible. The
- 0:53Speaker 3: way I look at it is my barbershop is across
- 0:55Speaker 3: the street from where I live. I really don't have
- 0:57Speaker 3: an excuse not to be there other than the fact
- 0:59Speaker 3: that these prices is going up. I got to budget
- 1:02Speaker 3: it properly, but I try to get in as often.
- 1:04Speaker 1: As I can.
- 1:04Speaker 2: What haircut hit 40 days? I honestly have no idea.
- 1:07Speaker 3: I'm a San Diego native, so we're very competitive with
- 1:10Speaker 3: where market rates are at. I would say this probably
- 1:13Speaker 3: runs me about $ 60 before I get to tip if
- 1:16Speaker 3: I do full head plus hairline.
- 1:18Speaker 2: A haircut costs... 60.
- 1:20Speaker 3: 60. Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I really don't understand how it don't look like the
- 1:27Speaker 1: 95 Bulls outside. The 99 Pacers.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I don't really get that.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Due to knowledge. That's what I.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Was about to say. That's what I was about to say.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We all out here. Fredro changed the world. And for
- 1:42Speaker 1: those who have not seen that clip, that is the
- 1:44Speaker 1: funniest thing in the world. When Fredro Starr swears up
- 1:46Speaker 1: and down that Michael Jordan shaved his head.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Because of Onyx. Because of Onyx. Yo, crazy things have happened.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'm going to pull this up on my phone and
- 1:56Speaker 1: play the audio here. I don't know if you have
- 2:00Speaker 1: seen this, but you do some high school football coaching.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So I want to ask you about this because I
- 2:04Speaker 1: talked about it a little last week. But good for
- 2:07Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals for playing a pretty good game last week.
- 2:11Speaker 1: But at the same time, I took the fact that
- 2:14Speaker 1: he got fined $ 100, 000 as a sign that I don't
- 2:17Speaker 1: know how long this thing is going to hold up.
- 2:19Speaker 2: That they've got going there. Like, what did you think.
- 2:21Speaker 1: As coach of seeing, once we realized that he has
- 2:24Speaker 1: put his hands on that grown man in that way?
- 2:27Speaker 3: I think that, like everybody, the first thought is like, damn,
- 2:30Speaker 3: 100 racks is a lot. That's a lot for a
- 2:33Speaker 3: coach's fine, for what seemed to just be a guy
- 2:36Speaker 3: being very heated in the moment. But then the moment
- 2:38Speaker 3: I got out of that and I started thinking, what
- 2:41Speaker 3: is he like in the building? That when that happened,
- 2:44Speaker 3: his GM... or his assistants, or the owner, looked and said,
- 2:48Speaker 3: all right, we have now crossed the threshold. Homeboy has
- 2:51Speaker 3: been pushing this line maybe a little bit too far,
- 2:53Speaker 3: and we have crossed it, and now we've got to
- 2:55Speaker 3: start dialing this thing back. So I'm with you. I'm
- 2:58Speaker 3: with you on that. I don't know how much longer
- 3:00Speaker 3: we got on this.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Would you like an idea, apparently, of what kind of
- 3:03Speaker 2: guy he is?
- 3:04Speaker 1: This is audio from his press availability this week, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: I was not aware that Jonathan Gannon had been an
- 3:12Speaker 1: assistant coach on the 2007 season.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Atlanta Falcons.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And this is how I found out he had been.
- 3:19Speaker 1: 2007 when our quarterback went to jail. 2007.
- 3:43Speaker 2: When the quarterback went to jail.
- 3:46Speaker 3: There's nothing better than somebody being at a press conference
- 3:50Speaker 3: and giving an answer that makes everybody in the press
- 3:53Speaker 3: just sit with what they just heard. That silence was palpable.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So here's the thing about it, and this is what
- 3:59Speaker 1: tells me what it's like to be around him, or
- 4:01Speaker 1: at least what it's like to be around him that day, right?
- 4:05Speaker 1: There are many ways to have given that exact same answer. Like, well,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you know, when I first got to the NFL, we
- 4:10Speaker 1: wound up in a situation with the Falcons where we
- 4:12Speaker 1: had the Michael Vick situation, which obviously was a tragedy. But,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know, you realize at that moment, hey, sometimes you're
- 4:18Speaker 1: not going to have guys. Sometimes things just aren't going to.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Go the way.
- 4:21Speaker 1: He could have very easily said that. That's... That's what
- 4:25Speaker 1: he said, but it ain't how he said it.
- 4:27Speaker 3: You could have just said early in my coaching career. Okay.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Been through adversity as a coach. Had things happen that
- 4:34Speaker 3: were out of my control. You don't have to call
- 4:37Speaker 3: back to that specific memory in that way.
- 4:39Speaker 2: He did have to call back because that was the
- 4:41Speaker 2: exact moment.
- 4:43Speaker 1: He knew exactly when he realized he had to stop
- 4:47Speaker 1: doing that. When he got a call that the whole
- 4:50Speaker 1: reason that he took the job was going to jail. Right.
- 4:54Speaker 3: And I can only imagine because he got to start
- 4:56Speaker 3: with Petrino at Louisville. I can only imagine what those
- 4:59Speaker 3: conversations were like.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Like, hey, man.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I want to build a life some way or, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 3: he might have had a significant other at this time.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I got to go home and tell my wife or
- 5:07Speaker 3: my girlfriend that the whole reason why I'm getting paid
- 5:10Speaker 3: is about to be behind bars.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, you've made the fraught decision to hitch your
- 5:14Speaker 1: wagon to a man as untrustworthy as Bobby Petrito.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yes, to begin with.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Then this happens. Oh, my goodness.
- 5:21Speaker 3: But all right.
- 5:21Speaker 1: We got us a week of NFL football that, you know.
- 5:25Speaker 2: We're in our bi-week era, right? This is where we are.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I feel in a lot of ways like it's hard
- 5:33Speaker 1: not to do a lot of rewind on this season
- 5:36Speaker 1: because we don't have great teams. But I do think
- 5:39Speaker 1: we have interesting teams. And I want to stop talking
- 5:43Speaker 1: about the Eagles. I really, really do. But it never
- 5:47Speaker 1: stops being totally fascinating what's going on here. So now
- 5:51Speaker 1: they've got this game here against Minnesota and.
- 5:56Speaker 2: If they go to four.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And three, you cannot lose this football game.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Even on the road?
- 6:02Speaker 3: You cannot lose this football game because it don't seem
- 6:04Speaker 3: like J.J. McCarthy is going to play. I know he's
- 6:06Speaker 3: been limited in practice. So you're looking at Carson Wentz,
- 6:09Speaker 3: a guy that you quickly jettisoned out the door when
- 6:12Speaker 3: it was time. And you've got your quarterback who's struggling
- 6:15Speaker 3: in your offense that's struggling. You cannot afford to lose
- 6:19Speaker 3: this football game. We haven't even gotten to the fact
- 6:24Speaker 3: that every time I hear the wide receiver come to
- 6:26Speaker 3: the press conference, it sounds like he's talking with clenched
- 6:28Speaker 3: fists and gritted teeth.
- 6:31Speaker 2: That's just one of them.
- 6:33Speaker 3: That's just one of them. That's the one who's willing
- 6:35Speaker 3: to say it publicly. The other one is a little
- 6:37Speaker 3: bit better at finessing his way through. He's got the
- 6:40Speaker 3: Nick Saban media training, so he knows how to kind
- 6:42Speaker 3: of talk around his situations in Devontae Smith. And then
- 6:46Speaker 3: I'm looking at the head coach and the offensive coordinator,
- 6:48Speaker 3: and I know that you've said this multiple times. I'm
- 6:50Speaker 3: looking like, hey, man, what do you do here?
- 6:52Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 6:55Speaker 3: If this is what you're dealing with, why is this
- 6:56Speaker 3: problem not fixed? You don't call plays. You're not one
- 6:59Speaker 3: of these Shanahan guys. You're not a coach GM type.
- 7:02Speaker 3: We know who runs the roster here. The owner is
- 7:04Speaker 3: the one who was given all the directives. Your job
- 7:07Speaker 3: specifically is to make sure there are smiles on the
- 7:09Speaker 3: faces of the 53 guys in the locker room.
- 7:11Speaker 2: You say he's supposed to bring the oranges.
- 7:14Speaker 3: You the vibes guy. You're supposed to be the vibes guy.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And that's what he was sold as in the first place.
- 7:19Speaker 3: When he got hired, he was wearing the graphic tees
- 7:21Speaker 3: with Rocky and the Sixers and all this stuff, and
- 7:24Speaker 3: everybody was feeling great. And now all we've got are
- 7:27Speaker 3: shaved heads when things go sideways and a bunch of
- 7:30Speaker 3: sucking your teeth and rolling eyes and not wanting to
- 7:34Speaker 3: admit to the fact that you might have made a
- 7:35Speaker 3: mistake by hiring your buddy to call this offense.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Well, let's also think about this, right? There there's so
- 7:45Speaker 1: many ways to view what is going on with this team. And,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, one of them is obviously I think it's
- 7:51Speaker 1: interesting with Jalen Hurts where Jalen Hurts gives you a
- 7:54Speaker 1: turbo booster if everything else is going right. And then
- 7:58Speaker 1: if not everything else is going right, there's a chance
- 8:01Speaker 1: that he becomes what is not going right. I think
- 8:08Speaker 1: something that is very interesting that happens to us with
- 8:10Speaker 1: football teams is we act like. we've never watched football before.
- 8:16Speaker 1: And that there isn't a measure of variance from year
- 8:19Speaker 1: to year. So remember when the Bucks won that Super
- 8:21Speaker 1: Bowl in the COVID year, and then we kept talking
- 8:24Speaker 1: about it like a college.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Team, they're bringing back 22 starters. Are you sure that
- 8:28Speaker 2: you want to have all 22 back? Right? Like, is
- 8:31Speaker 2: that what it is?
- 8:32Speaker 1: The changes you do and the changes you don't make
- 8:34Speaker 1: are so much more important. But when the coach is
- 8:38Speaker 1: the vibes guy, And the quarterback, clearly, who is a
- 8:42Speaker 1: coach's son, is looking at the vibes guy like, hey, man,
- 8:47Speaker 1: this ain't no real coaching. Like, say what you want
- 8:49Speaker 1: about Jalen Hurts. We always say we love the coach's son,
- 8:53Speaker 1: but the coach's son is a tough audience.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Tough, tough audience.
- 8:57Speaker 1: It's like being the quarterback's son. Being Peyton Manning's coach
- 9:00Speaker 1: was not an easy job.
- 9:01Speaker 2: That's a really tough audience.
- 9:04Speaker 3: This is also another guy who comes from the Nick
- 9:06Speaker 3: Saban school and he doesn't seem to be the guy
- 9:08Speaker 3: that I'm just here to work hard and go home.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Obviously that's a part of his thing. He also seems
- 9:13Speaker 3: like the Nick Saban guy in the sense that if
- 9:15Speaker 3: something's wrong, you're going to know. Yes. And when he
- 9:18Speaker 3: shows up, at these press conferences, it always sounds like,
- 9:21Speaker 3: oh yeah, we talked and we seem to come to
- 9:23Speaker 3: an understanding. And I always hear that as Jalen Hurts
- 9:26Speaker 3: is going into office saying, this is what I want
- 9:28Speaker 3: to do. Can we make that happen? And less like
- 9:31Speaker 3: Kevin Petullo saying, this is the game plan for the week.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And I think that even with that, that's causing other
- 9:36Speaker 3: layers of issues as well, because now your wide receivers
- 9:39Speaker 3: feel like they're not getting enough opportunities. And, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 3: I know I'm not the only person to make this comparison,
- 9:44Speaker 3: but I look at Jalen and I think of him
- 9:46Speaker 3: as Russell Wilson in a lot of ways, right? He
- 9:48Speaker 3: might not be as weird or quirky at this stage
- 9:52Speaker 3: in his career, but it's very much whatever is happening
- 9:55Speaker 3: on the field is a direct result of what he
- 9:57Speaker 3: wants as a quarterback. And I don't know right now
- 9:59Speaker 3: if that's what's serving the best interest of this team.
- 10:02Speaker 1: The other thing about this team is, for reasons good
- 10:04Speaker 1: and bad, it's just always a new coordinator. They fire coordinators.
- 10:08Speaker 1: They've had coordinators go on to get better jobs. Like,
- 10:11Speaker 1: nothing is ever the same with this team. The Sirianni
- 10:14Speaker 1: era has been a rollercoaster, unlike any rollercoaster I believe
- 10:17Speaker 1: that I have ever seen.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I've never seen a team this good have this many problems,
- 10:22Speaker 3: this many headaches on a year-to-year basis. And I think that,
- 10:26Speaker 3: I don't know if you heard Lane Johnson after the
- 10:28Speaker 3: Thursday night game, speaking with Josina Anderson, and he sounds, A,
- 10:33Speaker 3: like a guy who's very tired, right? And very annoyed
- 10:36Speaker 3: when things go wrong, for one. But past that, he
- 10:40Speaker 3: is another guy who's willing to say, we're too predictable.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I need my head coach to kind of take the
- 10:46Speaker 3: reins of this because he should know what it takes
- 10:48Speaker 3: to win. He should know how to develop an offensive
- 10:51Speaker 3: coordinator because these guys have shuffled in and out. And
- 10:54Speaker 3: where we need to go to get back to what
- 10:56Speaker 3: it was in 2022, 2023, in the back half of 2024,
- 10:59Speaker 3: when this offense was moving the ball and the fact
- 11:02Speaker 3: that it's not and guys seem to be a little
- 11:04Speaker 3: angsty and people are banged up. I don't know if
- 11:07Speaker 3: you guys have noticed that they can't really run the
- 11:09Speaker 3: ball no more. I don't think the Saquon Barkley stopped
- 11:11Speaker 3: being fast. I think that The big guys up front
- 11:14Speaker 3: have 550 snaps of running the ball and touch pushes
- 11:19Speaker 3: on their body, and they look like it a little bit.
- 11:21Speaker 3: And if he's not there and that line's not there
- 11:24Speaker 3: the way it needs to be, we are running out
- 11:26Speaker 3: of options for this offense to be as good as
- 11:27Speaker 3: it should be.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 11:28Speaker 1: What if two things are true at once? Because I
- 11:30Speaker 1: did think that Mekhi Becton at right guard is a
- 11:33Speaker 1: cheat code for run blocking.
- 11:35Speaker 3: 100%. Right?
- 11:36Speaker 2: And they don't have that anymore.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But also— Saquon Barkley is not young for a running back.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And that was a lot of yards and a lot
- 11:44Speaker 1: of touches last year. Like this is again, we act
- 11:47Speaker 1: like we've never watched football before, right? These, these things
- 11:51Speaker 1: happen from time to time. So he might be fast,
- 11:53Speaker 1: but the margins are thin.
- 11:55Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, like what it takes to.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Be that guy. Like, I feel like a 2000 yard season.
- 12:00Speaker 1: One of my buddies told me about making music that
- 12:04Speaker 1: the DOC.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Once told him.
- 12:06Speaker 1: That to make a classic album, three people have to
- 12:08Speaker 1: be operating at top of their game, like at a
- 12:11Speaker 1: Hall of Fame level to do a classic album.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I feel like a 2,000-yard.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Rushing season involves a similar level of everything coming up Milhouse, right?
- 12:23Speaker 3: For sure.
- 12:23Speaker 2: And a couple of those things are off.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But I just realized the thing I wanted to talk
- 12:27Speaker 1: to you about that's a bit broader that I think
- 12:29Speaker 1: is interesting. Ryan and I had been looking at this,
- 12:31Speaker 1: and I am blindsiding you with this to a degree.
- 12:34Speaker 1: But did you see the thing that ESPN did where
- 12:36Speaker 1: they were just basically looking at how all these number
- 12:39Speaker 1: one picks at quarterback, the next year their head coaches
- 12:42Speaker 1: have all been fired?
- 12:43Speaker 3: I think I've seen a tweet about it. I have
- 12:46Speaker 3: seen a tweet about that. And I know that this
- 12:48Speaker 3: has been a conversation that you've had on this show
- 12:50Speaker 3: a bunch about needing to be a little bit more
- 12:52Speaker 3: mindful that these guys don't leave college ready to lead
- 12:55Speaker 3: a franchise that was bad the year before they got there.
- 12:58Speaker 3: And that these teams, for whatever reason, bring these head
- 13:01Speaker 3: coaches on from one year to the next knowing that
- 13:04Speaker 3: they don't have the juice and hoping that a rookie
- 13:06Speaker 3: quarterback is going to save everybody's job. And when it
- 13:09Speaker 3: doesn't go right, now we are starting all over. And,
- 13:12Speaker 3: you know, Tennessee obviously being the most recent example, but
- 13:15Speaker 3: we have seen this over the last decade really of
- 13:18Speaker 3: teams hiring quarter, or excuse me, drafting quarterbacks with dead,
- 13:22Speaker 3: you know, kind of lame duck head coaches and expecting
- 13:24Speaker 3: everything to work out and then being shocked when it
- 13:26Speaker 3: does not.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So I had an interesting thought when I saw this.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So for example, Jameis Winston said, They fired the head coach.
- 13:33Speaker 2: The year after that.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Jarrett Goff, they fired the head coach the year after that.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield, I believe they fired the head coach the
- 13:42Speaker 1: same year. Kyler Murray, they hired the coach specifically for him.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Put a pin in that thought. Trevor Lawrence, they fired
- 13:54Speaker 2: his guy. Joe Burrow... No, they've kept his guy for
- 13:58Speaker 2: better or worse. For better or worse, they have kept
- 14:02Speaker 2: his guy.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Ken Ward, they just fired his guy. Who was the
- 14:06Speaker 1: number one pick last year? Because I feel like they
- 14:08Speaker 1: fired his guy.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Caleb Williams.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Caleb Williams. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They fired his guy quick.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And then the year before that was Bryce Young, and
- 14:15Speaker 1: they fired his guy quick. My thought is this. If
- 14:21Speaker 1: you're going to get the rookie quarterback position, you probably
- 14:25Speaker 1: should go ahead and fire your coach now. And the
- 14:28Speaker 1: reason you should probably fire your coach now is you're
- 14:31Speaker 1: probably going to fire your coach because you're probably bad
- 14:35Speaker 1: enough that you're already behind the eight ball and that
- 14:39Speaker 1: rookie is not going to save you.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And they're going to be like, oh, we got it.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Once the ball gets rolling on firing you, then that
- 14:45Speaker 2: ball just kind of doesn't stop. Because I actually go
- 14:48Speaker 2: through that list and.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I realize, oh, this is what happens when we don't
- 14:51Speaker 1: offer context. Case in point, they fired Jameis' head coach
- 14:57Speaker 1: in the name of continuity because it's so crazy to
- 15:00Speaker 1: look back on. They were afraid that somebody was going
- 15:02Speaker 1: to hire Dirk Cutter and they had to have him
- 15:05Speaker 1: with Jameis. And so they kept Dirk Cutter and then...
- 15:09Speaker 1: fired him a couple years shortly thereafter right yeah jerry
- 15:15Speaker 1: goff yes they fired his coach the first year but
- 15:17Speaker 1: his coach was oh boy it was fitty fitty jeff
- 15:20Speaker 1: fisher and who did they bring in to replace him
- 15:24Speaker 1: the best thing that could have ever happened to jerry
- 15:26Speaker 1: goff they brought in sean mcveigh that worked out okay
- 15:29Speaker 1: they fired hugh jackson on baker mayfield and then brought in,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I guess, was Stefanski got the job.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Oh, I forgot. I forgot that even.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And that was a Baker call.
- 15:41Speaker 2: It was a Baker call.
- 15:42Speaker 3: That was a Baker call.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It was a Baker call.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence, they made literally one of the worst head
- 15:48Speaker 1: coaching hires of all time. With Bryce Young, they thought
- 15:54Speaker 1: they were hiring a quarterback guy and.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Then immediately were like, hey, this is a horrible idea.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Which, by the way, most people who watch that team
- 16:01Speaker 1: thought that the Frank Reich thing was not going to happen.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Cato Williams, they should have fired Ivo Flusch. before the season.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Like people get a little bit too sentimental about firing people.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Sometimes you just got to do it.
- 16:17Speaker 3: When you know, you know. Right. When you know, you know.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And this most recent example with Cam Ward, I felt
- 16:23Speaker 3: like we knew this before we got to Halloween last year.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:26Speaker 3: That Brian Callahan was not cut out for the gig.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Like when you're screaming at your second round quarterback that
- 16:32Speaker 3: everybody seemed to agree should not be a starter, but
- 16:34Speaker 3: you had to start because Ryan Tannehill was banged up.
- 16:37Speaker 3: And you're screaming on him for making all the same
- 16:39Speaker 3: mistakes that he was making at Kentucky. I think people
- 16:41Speaker 3: were looking around then like, hey, boss, if you can't
- 16:43Speaker 3: develop his way out of these problems and you're not
- 16:46Speaker 3: willing to accept it and this is burning you up emotionally,
- 16:49Speaker 3: this don't seem like a guy that's got the kind
- 16:50Speaker 3: of constitution to be able to handle losing in the
- 16:53Speaker 3: way that you're probably going to lose being the Tennessee
- 16:56Speaker 3: Titans at that point in time. The same was the
- 17:00Speaker 3: same was true of Iberflues, man, like. It didn't seem
- 17:03Speaker 3: like you ever had two hands on the wheel. You
- 17:06Speaker 3: knew before that season was over that he had to go.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I don't get the thinking there.
- 17:10Speaker 2: The truth is this. If it's not your guy, fire him.
- 17:16Speaker 1: If it comes to where you're at some other inflection
- 17:19Speaker 1: point of what it is that you're doing, if this
- 17:22Speaker 1: is not your guy, if you're not like, no, I
- 17:26Speaker 1: believe in him. If you're saying to yourself, we'll see.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And you're trying to turn over the quarterback.
- 17:32Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 17:33Speaker 1: You need to go ahead and do all those things
- 17:36Speaker 1: all at one time. But we were bad enough to
- 17:38Speaker 1: get the number one overall pick and we're going to
- 17:41Speaker 1: keep the coach.
- 17:42Speaker 2: There's a world for you to do that.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Like, I don't think that that's an indefensible decision, but
- 17:46Speaker 1: you need to be invested in that guy.
- 17:48Speaker 2: The problem is if the rest.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Of the team, if he, if that dude loses team,
- 17:54Speaker 1: then you wind up having to fire him.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Like, I'm not saying these are easy decisions.
- 18:00Speaker 3: But still, I think that the other problem too is
- 18:03Speaker 3: that ownership gets a little, maybe gets a little hesitant
- 18:06Speaker 3: about if we fire the coach, what does that say
- 18:08Speaker 3: about my GM?
- 18:09Speaker 4: Yes.
- 18:09Speaker 3: And I think that the truth is you should probably
- 18:12Speaker 3: be cleaning house anyways, right? This chain of events probably
- 18:16Speaker 3: doesn't have to stop at head coach. If your roster
- 18:18Speaker 3: is bad enough to get the first overall pick and
- 18:21Speaker 3: you know you're going to get a quarterback, you are
- 18:23Speaker 3: now transitioning into a different phase of roster building, right?
- 18:26Speaker 3: Everybody knows that A rookie scale quarterback is the most
- 18:29Speaker 3: valuable asset that you can have in roster building. And
- 18:32Speaker 3: why would you entrust that to a coach that couldn't
- 18:34Speaker 3: win beforehand and a GM that couldn't build a roster
- 18:37Speaker 3: good enough to keep you away from having a number
- 18:39Speaker 3: one or a top three overall pick? in the NFL draft.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I think that it would make more sense for some
- 18:44Speaker 3: of these owners to just cut bait when you know
- 18:46Speaker 3: you're bad. When you're bad, the rot usually doesn't stop
- 18:49Speaker 3: at the roster. It typically goes all the way up
- 18:51Speaker 3: through the front office as well. And I think that
- 18:54Speaker 3: we would probably see less of quarterbacks basically wasting their
- 18:57Speaker 3: rookie years because they're stuck with GMs that don't know
- 19:00Speaker 3: how to build rosters. Trevor Lawrence, I think, has definitely
- 19:02Speaker 3: been a victim of that, having to suffer through the
- 19:04Speaker 3: Trent Baalke years longer than just dealing with Urban Meyer.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I think that Caleb Williams is probably going to be
- 19:10Speaker 3: struggling with that, with Ryan Poles, who continues to find
- 19:13Speaker 3: his way to getting extensions and additional time to build
- 19:16Speaker 3: a roster in spite of not having any returns on
- 19:19Speaker 3: the players that he's bringing in, basically. And I think
- 19:21Speaker 3: that Tennessee is going to be dealing with that because
- 19:23Speaker 3: Amy Adams Strunk has shown a reactivity to being embarrassed
- 19:28Speaker 3: that you usually don't see from the kind of owners
- 19:30Speaker 3: that build up winning franchises. And sometimes you just got
- 19:33Speaker 3: to bring in different leadership, people who can let owners
- 19:36Speaker 3: know that they can build something in a different vision
- 19:38Speaker 3: around a rookie quarterback. And I think the fear to
- 19:41Speaker 3: do so is why we're losing early development on so
- 19:44Speaker 3: many of these players.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Now, I will also make this point.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Obviously, there's a giant outlier in Titans slash Oilers history,
- 19:52Speaker 1: which is the tenure of Jeff Fisher.
- 19:54Speaker 2: But let me tell you who loved a knee jerk firing.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Amy Strunk's daddy, Bud.
- 20:03Speaker 1: But Adams made some moves and let some people go
- 20:06Speaker 1: and coached teams pretty well, but also was inclined to
- 20:10Speaker 1: similar moves.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But it becomes an interesting conversation.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I think, for example, the Lions in the first year
- 20:16Speaker 1: under Campbell started 0-10-1. Say that that is a two-win
- 20:20Speaker 1: team or whatever. I believe that Sheila Hamp would have
- 20:26Speaker 1: looked at the world and said, I believe in our
- 20:27Speaker 1: head coach and we're going to do this.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Because they believed in the head coach. That's what you
- 20:32Speaker 2: got to do.
- 20:33Speaker 1: The problem Aaron Glenn is having right now with the Jets,
- 20:36Speaker 1: because they look bad. I don't think anybody can stand
- 20:39Speaker 1: up and say that they believe in him right now.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And so if something happens and they wind up getting
- 20:44Speaker 1: the first pick, you're inclined to keep Aaron Glenn because
- 20:48Speaker 1: it was just the first year, right? You're inclined to
- 20:51Speaker 1: go ahead and do that. but you're gonna need to
- 20:55Speaker 1: fire him in all likelihood.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Eventually.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Because you don't believe in him.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And it's the, if you're gonna do it eventually, you
- 21:01Speaker 1: might as well do it immediately, right? Like, I think
- 21:04Speaker 1: that that becomes, you know, kind of the case, but
- 21:08Speaker 1: we have such unrealistic expectations. of how easy it is
- 21:13Speaker 1: or is not to hire a coach, hire a GM,
- 21:18Speaker 1: bring in a quarterback. What we're learning, I feel like,
- 21:22Speaker 1: is that the growth arc of these quarterbacks is so
- 21:24Speaker 1: much longer than people give it credit for being. But
- 21:27Speaker 1: the jobs that people have, the timetables that they have
- 21:30Speaker 1: to operate on in the name of success does not
- 21:32Speaker 1: go for that. So with Baker Mayfield, for example, I'm like, oh,
- 21:35Speaker 1: the Browns were out on Baker Mayfield.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield, as he was, was going to get everybody fired.
- 21:43Speaker 1: They didn't have the, hey man, just give me three
- 21:46Speaker 1: more years and I'm telling you, he might be a
- 21:48Speaker 1: candidate for the MVP.
- 21:51Speaker 2: That's not on the board.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, he bounced to all these places for the
- 21:54Speaker 1: same reasons, right? Those guys' job timelines, people don't have,
- 22:00Speaker 1: and it's because.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Our expectations are so crazy.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I think about living in New York, they tell you,
- 22:06Speaker 1: you're going to need to live in like three apartments
- 22:08Speaker 1: before you find yours.
- 22:10Speaker 2: That's just how it works, right?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Like you got to get an apartment because you need
- 22:13Speaker 1: somewhere to live. You don't have time to get all
- 22:16Speaker 1: the way to the bottom of it and figure out
- 22:17Speaker 1: everything you need and everything that's important. You figure that
- 22:19Speaker 1: shit out once you in there and you find it
- 22:21Speaker 1: all out.
- 22:21Speaker 2: The hard way, right?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Like this is how it works. You get your third
- 22:25Speaker 1: place and you're like, oh, okay. Now I understand that
- 22:28Speaker 1: this is what I want. When I was hosting a
- 22:32Speaker 1: late night show for HBO, important job is head writer
- 22:37Speaker 1: and people don't understand the head writer is the manager
- 22:40Speaker 1: of the writing staff that is to relay like what
- 22:42Speaker 1: you want to them but they're kind of a black
- 22:44Speaker 1: box it goes in between them but it's a process
- 22:46Speaker 1: and they're like hey man It probably takes a couple
- 22:50Speaker 1: of three before you find the right one. I had
- 22:53Speaker 1: two that were very talented, not necessarily the one, but
- 22:57Speaker 1: you don't have time to go back to the network
- 22:59Speaker 1: and be like, hey, man, if you give me two
- 23:01Speaker 1: more choices on a head writer, I promise you this
- 23:04Speaker 1: thing is going to stink and skyrocket.
- 23:06Speaker 2: And the people I work with did great jobs. You
- 23:08Speaker 2: know what I mean? But it's like, is it exactly
- 23:09Speaker 2: what you need?
- 23:11Speaker 1: But nobody has time for you to do what is
- 23:14Speaker 1: actually prudent and realistic.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:17Speaker 3: And I think that similar to playing quarterback, there is
- 23:20Speaker 3: a high bar to clear to be one of the
- 23:22Speaker 3: good guys. We're talking about coaching and GMs, but the
- 23:25Speaker 3: threshold to clear to just be a guy isn't that high.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:28Speaker 3: And if you only got a guy, then, yeah, you
- 23:30Speaker 3: probably need to your turnaround rate probably needs to be
- 23:32Speaker 3: a little bit higher. But we see in the NFL
- 23:34Speaker 3: and I think that with Detroit, one of the reasons
- 23:37Speaker 3: why it worked out is because Brad Holmes and Dan
- 23:39Speaker 3: Campbell were brought in in the same offseason. So anything
- 23:42Speaker 3: you were saying that was a vote of confidence for
- 23:44Speaker 3: one applied to the other. And I think that Detroit
- 23:47Speaker 3: knew we were going to ride this out with both
- 23:49Speaker 3: of these guys, no matter what. That's a much different
- 23:53Speaker 3: proposition than what's happening in Tennessee, for example, where Mike
- 23:57Speaker 3: Borgonzi is hired last season with the lame, with the
- 23:59Speaker 3: lame duck head coach and the president of football ops
- 24:02Speaker 3: was hired the season before that. And he's been there
- 24:05Speaker 3: through multiple guys getting fired and taking jobs beneath him
- 24:08Speaker 3: on the org chart. That's the kind, I think that,
- 24:12Speaker 3: It's more of those kind of incongruencies with how you're
- 24:14Speaker 3: hiring guys and how you're handling timelines with people that
- 24:18Speaker 3: ends up being reflected on the field. Because like you said,
- 24:20Speaker 3: all these guys' jobs are usually tied to how good
- 24:22Speaker 3: the quarterback is. And everybody wants to know in two years. Yep.
- 24:25Speaker 3: You basically got two and a half years to show
- 24:28Speaker 3: us something.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Yep.
- 24:28Speaker 3: And in a lot of cases, it turns into one
- 24:30Speaker 3: and a half if your head coach is already walking
- 24:32Speaker 3: in on the hot seat. So I think that... I
- 24:36Speaker 3: do think that it's tough. And like you said, not
- 24:37Speaker 3: everybody can be good at this job. But I think
- 24:40Speaker 3: that more often than not, we see guys in the
- 24:42Speaker 3: NFL that hold these positions and you look at what
- 24:45Speaker 3: you're seeing on the field and thinking, man, any old
- 24:48Speaker 3: coordinator can be promoted to this, this gig and put
- 24:51Speaker 3: out results just like this. It is difficult to find
- 24:54Speaker 3: the right guy, but just finding a guy is not
- 24:57Speaker 3: as hard to find. And usually the ones with just
- 24:59Speaker 3: a guy are the ones that are most liable to
- 25:01Speaker 3: end up picking high in the draft and needing to
- 25:03Speaker 3: be replaced.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah, by the way, firing Brian Callahan, tremendous idea.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Just so we're clear.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Anybody say it, like, you're not doing Cam Ward a
- 25:15Speaker 1: disservice by firing Brian Callahan because you think he needs continuity, right?
- 25:21Speaker 1: That's like my brother once said about This cat we
- 25:24Speaker 1: knew who had a son, and I said that it
- 25:27Speaker 1: was good that he was around with that son. And
- 25:29Speaker 1: my brother said, we're going to call the man John.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm not sure that having John for a daddy is
- 25:34Speaker 1: better than having no daddy at all.
- 25:41Speaker 2: That's where Brian Callahan's situation was with Ken Ward. Like, no, no,
- 25:47Speaker 2: don't beg your daddy to stay.
- 25:50Speaker 1: That man walking out that man going to get that
- 25:52Speaker 1: pack of cigarettes is the best thing that's ever happened to.
- 25:54Speaker 3: You yes let that man leave i mean jeff simmons
- 25:58Speaker 3: was kind of intimating as much after uh sunday talking
- 26:01Speaker 3: about yeah we came off a win and this was
- 26:03Speaker 3: as flat as we've ever been all season and again
- 26:06Speaker 3: that leads me back to the same place i was
- 26:07Speaker 3: at with nick sirianni where you got to look at
- 26:09Speaker 3: the head coach and say what do you do here
- 26:12Speaker 3: the offense ain't good The roster ain't good. The quarterback
- 26:16Speaker 3: don't look as good now as he did in college.
- 26:19Speaker 3: And the guys don't seem to be enjoying being around
- 26:21Speaker 3: each other. Why are we paying you to be here?
- 26:24Speaker 2: Why are you here? That is the question all of
- 26:28Speaker 2: us have to answer every single day. Why are you here?
- 26:33Speaker 2: Whether you like it or not, that is the bottom line.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Why are you here? And the second you're like, yeah.
- 26:44Speaker 1: You won't be there for long. All right, we'll be
- 26:47Speaker 1: back with more coming up next. All right, Ryan, DraftKings,
- 26:52Speaker 1: pick six.
- 26:53Speaker 2: What you got?
- 26:54Speaker 4: All right, I like two picks this week. I like

- 26:59Speaker 4: the Las Vegas Raiders in his debut back from his suspension.
- 27:04Speaker 4: I like Saquon Barkley also to score either a rushing
- 27:06Speaker 4: or receiving touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings. DraftKings Pick Sense

- 28:09Speaker 2: All right, we're back on with Deontay Lee.
- 28:13Speaker 1: This is one of those weeks where you could tell that, like,
- 28:16Speaker 1: the TV networks, we know what the game of the
- 28:18Speaker 1: week has to be just because it's the Commandos and the.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Cowboys, right?
- 28:23Speaker 1: That's what TV wants. But that time slot has also
- 28:26Speaker 1: given us the Colts and the Chargers. Where is your
- 28:29Speaker 1: belief level in both of these?
- 28:33Speaker 3: I'll start with the Colts because we didn't spend a
- 28:35Speaker 3: lot of time talking about it the last time I
- 28:36Speaker 3: was on. I think the more I watch, the more
- 28:40Speaker 3: I realize that me believing in this really doesn't have
- 28:43Speaker 3: anything to do with Daniel Jones, which is a tricky
- 28:45Speaker 3: proposition because that means that Daniel Jones at any time
- 28:48Speaker 3: can show up and take all this belief and put
- 28:51Speaker 3: it on the bottom of his shoe. But I do
- 28:54Speaker 3: think that, A, Jonathan Taylor is probably playing the best
- 28:57Speaker 3: out of anybody in his position right now. And Shane Steichen,
- 29:00Speaker 3: a guy who I wasn't sure had the juice– And
- 29:02Speaker 3: maybe this is a lot of this was Anthony Richardson related.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Now he's got a quarterback that he can trust. And
- 29:08Speaker 3: all of a sudden they're just dicing defenses up. Play action,
- 29:12Speaker 3: deep passes, RPOs, getting Daniel Jones involved as a runner.
- 29:16Speaker 3: All the things that they could not do with Richardson
- 29:18Speaker 3: as a starter all of a sudden aren't a problem anymore.
- 29:21Speaker 3: So I think I am becoming a believer because the
- 29:23Speaker 3: coaching staff looks like they have a grip on what
- 29:25Speaker 3: they want to do. And the people who need to
- 29:28Speaker 3: protect Daniel Jones are doing so at a very high
- 29:31Speaker 3: level right now.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Just want to point out for people who don't know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson was just trying to exercise, stay in shape,
- 29:38Speaker 1: be ready for his chance.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And somehow managed to break his face.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Listen i'm not by the way guys i'm not exaggerating
- 29:47Speaker 1: he was working out with them bands and he broke
- 29:49Speaker 1: his orbital boat he's having a really tough year guys
- 29:52Speaker 1: he's having a really really really tough.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Year Look, I don't know if this is an experience
- 29:58Speaker 3: you share, but when I was in college, I've been
- 30:00Speaker 3: in a couple of classes where you're kind of teetering
- 30:03Speaker 3: on the edge and you start going to office hours
- 30:05Speaker 3: and you feel like you're doing everything you need to do.
- 30:08Speaker 3: And then you look up one day and you're like,
- 30:10Speaker 3: oh shit, I had a paper that I needed to
- 30:13Speaker 3: turn in on Tuesday. And it is Monday afternoon. I
- 30:17Speaker 3: don't know if I'm going to get this in on time.
- 30:18Speaker 3: And if I don't get this in, all this work
- 30:20Speaker 3: will be for naught. I feel like Anthony Richardson is
- 30:23Speaker 3: kind of transition into that can't get right kind of territory. Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 1: The other thing with the Colts is the Colts have
- 30:29Speaker 1: been beaten up on bums, generally speaking. I think that
- 30:32Speaker 1: we would all agree that they have, they have put
- 30:35Speaker 1: the hurt on a bunch of bums. When they play
- 30:37Speaker 1: decent teams, they beat the Broncos on paper and they
- 30:42Speaker 1: lost to the Rams, right?
- 30:44Speaker 3: Probably should have beaten the Rams.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Yes.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Not for A.D. Mitchell.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Oh, forgot about that. He's the, he's the OG. It's
- 30:50Speaker 2: their safe stack and they put his hands on him.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 30:53Speaker 3: He was.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Although the thing about A.D. Mitchell was that was why
- 30:57Speaker 1: you wouldn't in the first round.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 30:59Speaker 2: He's one of those like it's a wonder he don't
- 31:01Speaker 2: play for the Bengals.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:03Speaker 1: He's the sort of space case that the Bengals love
- 31:05Speaker 1: to have dudes like that on the team.
- 31:07Speaker 2: He had George picking situations.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Yes, he's one of those guys you ask a coach
- 31:11Speaker 3: off the record. They're like, oh man, we love him.
- 31:13Speaker 3: But he'd be tripping. He'd be tripping.
- 31:17Speaker 2: But the Colts have.
- 31:20Speaker 1: They're going to play the Chargers, but after that, the
- 31:22Speaker 1: schedule ramps up, but kind of ramps up.
- 31:26Speaker 2: So they get to go play the Titans. That should
- 31:28Speaker 2: be a win. They get the Steelers.
- 31:30Speaker 1: We're not exactly sure how good they are.
- 31:33Speaker 2: We have.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I'm not going to encourage y'all to believe in this,
- 31:38Speaker 1: but the Atlanta Falcons keep looking good on national television.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Just throwing it out there.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Then they get the Chiefs.
- 31:44Speaker 1: They get the Texans, who might be a little better
- 31:47Speaker 1: than their record indicates. The Jaguars, who might not be
- 31:51Speaker 1: as good as their record indicates, but their record indicates
- 31:54Speaker 1: that they are good. The Seahawks, the 49ers, who, I mean,
- 31:58Speaker 1: by then, they may be down to 30 people. Jaguars again,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and then the Texans. Like, They're going to be tested,
- 32:05Speaker 1: I guess, is the moral of the story that I'm getting.
- 32:08Speaker 3: We'll know if they're a mediocre team beating up on
- 32:10Speaker 3: bad teams or if they're actually a good football team
- 32:12Speaker 3: pretty quickly, I think, down the stretch of this season.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah, this is going to be something.
- 32:17Speaker 1: And look, the thing about Daniel Jones, you're like, they
- 32:21Speaker 1: haven't really needed Daniel Jones. But what we learned from
- 32:23Speaker 1: Sam Darnold last year is at some point you will.
- 32:26Speaker 1: you will right and even that's still the thing with
- 32:28Speaker 1: even seattle this.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Year with donald where it's like okay i am.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Seeing him doing a good job of getting the ball
- 32:33Speaker 1: to wide open dudes at some point we're gonna need
- 32:36Speaker 1: a little bit more than that or the stakes are
- 32:38Speaker 1: going to be higher and we're going to need you
- 32:40Speaker 1: to just have a different constitution right will you be
- 32:45Speaker 1: able to do that.
- 32:46Speaker 3: I mean i mean sam donald has proven that that's
- 32:49Speaker 3: just not really in his in his bag right like
- 32:52Speaker 3: And I think that if you're looking at the Seahawks
- 32:54Speaker 3: and comparing it to what we saw last year of Minnesota,
- 32:57Speaker 3: a lot of the same warning signs are there, right?
- 32:59Speaker 3: You are throwing to a lot of wide open guys.
- 33:01Speaker 3: You don't really have a lot of support from the
- 33:02Speaker 3: run game. And right now, taking all these chances are
- 33:05Speaker 3: going great. The moment the defenses start adding a little
- 33:09Speaker 3: bit more pressure, like they did to Minnesota last year,
- 33:11Speaker 3: and they don't have to respect the run game on
- 33:13Speaker 3: early downs at all. Now you got Sam Darnold in
- 33:16Speaker 3: the gun on first and 10 in a game that
- 33:18Speaker 3: you got to win. You don't want to live there
- 33:20Speaker 3: if Sam Darnold's your quarterback. And I think the same
- 33:22Speaker 3: thing is going to be true of Daniel Jones eventually.
- 33:24Speaker 3: You talk about the Texans who are great on defense.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Kansas City, whose defense has taken a step back, but
- 33:29Speaker 3: they can game plan against a limited quarterback as well
- 33:31Speaker 3: as anybody in the league. And, you know, the Jaguars,
- 33:34Speaker 3: of course, turnovers at different points. You're going to get
- 33:37Speaker 3: one of these games where Indianapolis is behind the game script.
- 33:41Speaker 3: They've got to score, you know, two or three times
- 33:43Speaker 3: in the second half to stay in the football game.
- 33:45Speaker 3: And that's when you're not going to be able to
- 33:46Speaker 3: hand the ball off to Jonathan Taylor 15, 20 times
- 33:49Speaker 3: and expect him to carry this thing on his back.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I mean, we've seen enough of Danny Jones to know
- 33:54Speaker 3: that's not where you want to live. I'm interested to see, though,
- 33:57Speaker 3: if he can do just enough to keep Indianapolis in
- 34:00Speaker 3: the playoff picture. And based off the way they've been
- 34:02Speaker 3: playing right now, I guess I'm a little bit more
- 34:04Speaker 3: inclined to give them some benefit of the doubt.
- 34:07Speaker 1: All right. The NFL is doing a thing. I really
- 34:10Speaker 1: don't like it when they do this. which is giving
- 34:13Speaker 1: us a London night in the morning game worth watching.
- 34:16Speaker 1: I guess it's a little different. You live over there
- 34:17Speaker 1: on the West. You got to be really, really a sicko.
- 34:20Speaker 1: But at the same time, Rams and Jaguars, huh?
- 34:23Speaker 2: Something there?
- 34:25Speaker 3: There is something there. I will tell you, as a
- 34:27Speaker 3: West Coast guy, I don't know if I have made
- 34:30Speaker 3: a single opening kickoff for one of these London games.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I'm sure. Sorry to my bosses. Sorry to my buddies
- 34:37Speaker 3: who live on the East Coast and cover the NFL
- 34:39Speaker 3: and got to be up to watch this. This is
- 34:41Speaker 3: the YouTube invitational for me when the game is not
- 34:44Speaker 3: very interesting. But I do think we're going to learn
- 34:47Speaker 3: a lot about the Rams because this is another team
- 34:48Speaker 3: that has looked good and have a lot of pieces
- 34:51Speaker 3: that will lead you to believe that they're a good team.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And sometimes I watch them and I'm like, man, it's
- 34:56Speaker 3: a whole lot, a whole lot of weight on the
- 34:59Speaker 3: back of a 37 year old who couldn't practice at
- 35:01Speaker 3: all in the offseason. I don't know how much longer
- 35:03Speaker 3: this thing is going to last.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Hey, look, man, it's the classic Stafford experience. When he
- 35:08Speaker 1: looks great, he looks great. But who wants an interception?
- 35:13Speaker 1: There's one right there.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Waiting on you.
- 35:15Speaker 2: It's coming. It's coming hard, though. You're going to need
- 35:19Speaker 2: to think fast. Look alive.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Had them gloves nice and sticky. Go ahead
- 35:24Speaker 3: and spit on them.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Gloves before the play. You're going to hear that bitch coming.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Just spit it through the air. But he's looked good
- 35:34Speaker 1: this year. He's looked really good.
- 35:35Speaker 2: The Jaguars....
- 35:38Speaker 1: How much attention have you paid to the Travis Hunter experiment?
- 35:40Speaker 1: Because I feel like they've taken a once-a-generation talent and
- 35:46Speaker 1: made him into just another dude on the field by
- 35:48Speaker 1: trying to make him into a superhero.
- 35:51Speaker 3: He's very normal. There are times where it's dynamic, and
- 35:54Speaker 3: I'm not blaming the fact that he looks normal on
- 35:57Speaker 3: Travis Hunter, because there are times where they get on
- 35:59Speaker 3: the ball on these glorified punt returns, these bubble screens,
- 36:02Speaker 3: these little checkdowns out in space, and he shakes a guy.
- 36:05Speaker 3: And it looks like, you know, if you've ever been
- 36:07Speaker 3: to a youth football game where you just sit in
- 36:09Speaker 3: the stands, you're like, oh, OK, that's the kid. And
- 36:12Speaker 3: then y'all are everybody else. There are some times where
- 36:14Speaker 3: you can still make it look like that, but it's
- 36:16Speaker 3: not as often. And I think that when you're watching
- 36:19Speaker 3: all 22, there are some times where maybe the offense
- 36:22Speaker 3: is checking a play or signaling or trying to get
- 36:24Speaker 3: from one formation to the next. And it don't necessarily
- 36:27Speaker 3: look like Travis Hunter knows exactly where to be yet.
- 36:30Speaker 3: And again, I can't blame that on him. You got
- 36:32Speaker 3: the man in two different meeting rooms throughout the week.
- 36:35Speaker 2: It's a lot.
- 36:36Speaker 3: All right. It's a lot.
- 36:38Speaker 2: How does. How is this not such an obviously bad idea?
- 36:44Speaker 2: I just can't. I see people dream on it.
- 36:47Speaker 1: How is this just not clearly not what you should do?
- 36:51Speaker 2: Like, I'm going to throw this out here. You expect
- 36:54Speaker 2: me to believe that Bo Jackson couldn't play linebacker, perhaps
- 36:57Speaker 2: edge rusher. You know what I mean? Like, you know,
- 37:00Speaker 2: I'm sure there are other people who could have done
- 37:02Speaker 2: these things, but their coach. Oh, Derek Henry could have 100.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Sacks right now. Yeah, but their coach.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Didn't do that to him. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 37:10Speaker 2: just let him pick one and let him be a
- 37:13Speaker 2: beast at that one.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yes. And I think that what we're seeing is that
- 37:18Speaker 3: he could be that at receiver. In my opinion, the
- 37:21Speaker 3: way he runs, the way he tracks the ball, how
- 37:23Speaker 3: he can feel, you know, feel for guys out in space.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I'm like, why are we, why would we even mess
- 37:28Speaker 3: around with the DV thing? And this is me admitting
- 37:30Speaker 3: that I might've been wrong in my evaluation of this.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Cause I thought that for sure, put them out at corner,
- 37:35Speaker 3: let them play corner a hundred percent of the time.
- 37:37Speaker 3: The wide receiver stuff was nice in college, but I
- 37:39Speaker 3: don't know if that's who he can be at the
- 37:41Speaker 3: NFL level. I watched the way this guy moves. And
- 37:43Speaker 3: I'm like, maybe that guy does need to touch the
- 37:45Speaker 3: ball eight to 12 times a game. I just think
- 37:48Speaker 3: that it's hard to do that. If you're trying to
- 37:50Speaker 3: teach him how to be a slot, how to be
- 37:52Speaker 3: an outside receiver, and how to, you know, line up
- 37:55Speaker 3: at the line of scrimmage and play press technique on
- 37:57Speaker 3: number one wide receivers.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I mean, it's clearly affecting his decision making because he
- 38:01Speaker 1: signed off on that terrible, terrible commercial that him and
- 38:04Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence did together.
- 38:06Speaker 2: You seen that?
- 38:07Speaker 3: I haven't seen this.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I'm amazed that you've avoided it. They run it all
- 38:12Speaker 1: the time. You ever seen Footloose?
- 38:15Speaker 3: I have seen Footloose.
- 38:16Speaker 1: I have never seen Footloose. But it's a commercial with
- 38:19Speaker 1: the Denise Williams song. And they out here, it look like.
- 38:21Speaker 2: They like dancing in TikTok videos, basically.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Like they got a part where they holding hands and
- 38:25Speaker 1: they do the thing where you go like that.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Y'all do the wave with your arm and you dance together.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And it's let's hear it for the boy.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'm trying to figure out who this
- 38:35Speaker 1: make want to play football.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Whose idea was this?
- 38:44Speaker 3: Their relationship already don't strike me like that's the way
- 38:46Speaker 3: that they give it up with one another either. Nobody's
- 38:48Speaker 3: buying it.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I'm just going to tell you, you're going to look
- 38:50Speaker 1: at this commercial and we are so far away from
- 38:52Speaker 1: I am not a role model. Like, commercials when I
- 38:54Speaker 1: was a kid had a little bit more bite tool.
- 38:58Speaker 2: That one right.
- 38:58Speaker 1: There had me like, oh, and I ain't never seen,
- 39:01Speaker 1: like I said, I ain't never seen Footloose. I said
- 39:03Speaker 1: it to a friend of mine and she tells me
- 39:04Speaker 1: how it's from Footloose. I'm like, is it even from Footloose?
- 39:07Speaker 1: I just thought it was a literal interpretation of the song.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I had never seen Footloose.
- 39:11Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 39:11Speaker 2: And That's hilarious.
- 39:12Speaker 1: So apparently them boys is, is that the one about
- 39:15Speaker 1: the town where people ain't allowed to dance?
- 39:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Oh, okay. It's kind of like Baylor.
- 39:21Speaker 3: I think, I think Ryan made the same joke on
- 39:24Speaker 3: earlier very much.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Hey man i'm just saying when i was like say
- 39:28Speaker 1: baylor did not have his first school sponsored dance until
- 39:30Speaker 1: the year of our lord 1997 that just came up
- 39:33Speaker 1: on the show the other day i don't know why
- 39:34Speaker 1: and i'll bring it up every time i'll anytime anytime
- 39:38Speaker 1: they come up don't you worry i'll bring that up
- 39:41Speaker 1: but before we get you out of here i do
- 39:42Speaker 1: want to ask you this about these uh atlanta falcons
- 39:47Speaker 1: um I'm never going to encourage Falcons fans.
- 39:50Speaker 2: To believe because I don't. I stopped.
- 39:55Speaker 3: I quit.
- 39:58Speaker 2: They look aight.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Aight is a dangerous proposition when you're talking about the Falcons.
- 40:03Speaker 2: It is a dangerous proposition.
- 40:04Speaker 1: The part that got Charles McDonald and me, though, was
- 40:08Speaker 1: that defense, which is just children and spare parts.
- 40:12Speaker 2: At least when they're on national television, they be flyin'..
- 40:16Speaker 3: And there are some times where I'm like, it seems
- 40:18Speaker 3: like we're just flying to fly around and we end
- 40:20Speaker 3: up landing in the right spot a lot of times.
- 40:23Speaker 3: And it's very different from the typical Raheem Morris defense,
- 40:26Speaker 3: which has been a lot of just kind of grab bag.
- 40:29Speaker 3: We got a bunch of guys that are just doing
- 40:31Speaker 3: stuff out there. And sometimes we stop the run. And
- 40:34Speaker 3: a lot of times we don't. Sometimes we force turnovers.
- 40:36Speaker 3: And a lot of times we don't. I do think
- 40:38Speaker 3: when I watch them, guys like Billy Bowman, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 3: you're seeing guys up front. Jalen Walker has been a
- 40:43Speaker 3: little bit better than I expected. Their pass rush for
- 40:46Speaker 3: the first time, I guess, since what John Abraham was
- 40:49Speaker 3: playing on the edge for the Falcons looks like it's viable.
- 40:52Speaker 3: And that's a new development as well. And I think
- 40:54Speaker 3: that if you believe in the defense, you can believe
- 40:56Speaker 3: in the team. I'm just not there yet. I will say, though,
- 41:00Speaker 3: this is the perfect team for my own sensibilities because
- 41:04Speaker 3: every time they got the ball, all I'm saying is
- 41:05Speaker 3: where's number seven? Where's number seven? Zach Robinson, if this
- 41:09Speaker 3: play call is not for number seven, you're fired.
- 41:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Everything for number seven, please. And less for everybody else.
- 41:15Speaker 1: In a different time, he is one of the five
- 41:19Speaker 1: most famous football players that there is. I say this
- 41:23Speaker 1: all the time here, but I don't believe that I
- 41:25Speaker 1: can say it enough.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I don't know the last time they made. Adrian Peterson
- 41:31Speaker 2: is the last time they made one of.
- 41:33Speaker 1: These in terms of similar talent.
- 41:36Speaker 2: But he can do more than Peterson could.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Peterson is just, like, seven yards deep, pitch him the ball, go.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I don't, you know, Derrick Henry, I guess, is the
- 41:43Speaker 1: other person that you could put in a, like, similar
- 41:45Speaker 1: category there.
- 41:46Speaker 2: But I can do.
- 41:47Speaker 3: All of this.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Bijan feels like a maybe more talented Marshall Falk. And
- 41:52Speaker 1: Marshall Falk has an argument for being the best running
- 41:54Speaker 1: back I've ever seen.
- 41:56Speaker 3: I think of him similarly to LaDainian Thomason and Marshall Falk,
- 42:00Speaker 3: where it's like, there is nothing that these guys cannot do.
- 42:03Speaker 3: And they make guys miss in ways. It's like, oh,
- 42:05Speaker 3: my God. Only you can do this, right? Like he
- 42:08Speaker 3: definitely fits in that paradigm. I do think if we
- 42:11Speaker 3: were in a little bit more of a run friendly NFL,
- 42:15Speaker 3: he's not just one of the most famous players. He
- 42:17Speaker 3: probably is the most marketable force right now in the
- 42:20Speaker 3: NFL because he does things that even guys like Saquon
- 42:24Speaker 3: don't do. Even guys like Jonathan Taylor can't do. I mean,
- 42:26Speaker 3: there are ways where he can catch the ball out
- 42:28Speaker 3: in the flat and it genuinely feels like nobody has
- 42:31Speaker 3: a chance to touch him more times than not. The
- 42:33Speaker 3: first guy to the ball is not the guy that
- 42:34Speaker 3: brings him down. I think that as this thing goes
- 42:38Speaker 3: on with him, he will be maybe the next. And
- 42:41Speaker 3: I feel like I say this every five years, the
- 42:43Speaker 3: last guy that has a chance to make the Hall
- 42:45Speaker 3: of Fame at this position.
- 42:47Speaker 2: OK, so you do that, too. I do that same
- 42:49Speaker 2: thing or run it back. I didn't have all that.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Like we're counting down the moments. Right.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Like we may not get another one of these. I'd
- 42:56Speaker 1: say this to anybody that felt like Falcons overdrafted with Bijan.
- 43:00Speaker 2: All you was doing was telling me you was a dork.
- 43:03Speaker 3: Hater.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Right?
- 43:04Speaker 1: Only a dork would have said that, and the rest
- 43:07Speaker 1: of y'all need to be glad because if the Falcons
- 43:09Speaker 1: had not taken him, what if he went down to
- 43:12Speaker 1: the next team that took a running back in the
- 43:13Speaker 1: first round that year? Because that means Bijan, as much
- 43:17Speaker 1: as you might like Jameer Gibbs, Bijan would be a
- 43:20Speaker 1: Detroit lying, in which case, first of all, Bijan would
- 43:25Speaker 1: be the quarterback.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Maybe they'd never throw the ball again.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Yeah. You want to talk about some big brain Ben Johnson.
- 43:31Speaker 3: That would have been the whole offense while he was here.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Well, clearly the big brain is actually Dan Campbell because
- 43:38Speaker 1: they still do that stuff now.
- 43:40Speaker 2: And it's like, oh, wow, Dan Campbell actually.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Does Dan Campbell have a streak that wants him to
- 43:45Speaker 1: prove to us how smart he is?
- 43:48Speaker 2: Because that would be bad.
- 43:49Speaker 3: I think there's a little bit of. not just the
- 43:52Speaker 3: meathead energy that we're getting from him. And I'm like,
- 43:56Speaker 3: hey man, ain't no shame in being a meathead. We
- 43:58Speaker 3: love you with this. This is your role.
- 44:00Speaker 1: But you know what he is though? He's one of
- 44:02Speaker 1: these guys. Mike Ditka fits this category. Les Miles was
- 44:08Speaker 1: a guy like this in college. And that is offensive
- 44:13Speaker 1: guys who seem like defensive guys.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Right? Like when you think about it, you're like, huh, really?
- 44:19Speaker 2: Mike Ditka? Yeah, Mike Ditka.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, first tight end to go into the
- 44:22Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. He's an offensive guy. But, you know,
- 44:26Speaker 1: they all hardscrabble and got dirt on their fingernails and shit.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So they seem like that they are less, honestly, with
- 44:31Speaker 1: Les Miles. There's only one reason we think him as
- 44:33Speaker 1: the defensive guy is because we just don't think of
- 44:35Speaker 1: him as being particularly bright.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 44:37Speaker 1: I'm not saying he isn't. I'm just telling you the
- 44:40Speaker 1: way that we be treating him.
- 44:42Speaker 3: That's fair. I think that's fair. Right. Exactly. By choice.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Just because.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Compulsively.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:50Speaker 1: As an example to prove the point that I'm making here.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Not one of y'all looking at Ogeron like, oh, I
- 44:56Speaker 1: bet that man called plays.
- 44:57Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That's not.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Not a half bad Cajun. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:04Speaker 2: You know, like that's not. He ain't the guy that's
- 45:07Speaker 2: doing that.
- 45:07Speaker 1: But I mentioned the Lions because the Lions played a
- 45:11Speaker 1: Bucs on Monday Night Football. And obviously, I think the
- 45:16Speaker 1: Lions have given us a little bit more proof of
- 45:17Speaker 1: concept on the idea that they are for real. Tampa,
- 45:21Speaker 1: I think it's been a little tricky in terms of
- 45:24Speaker 1: who they've played and the results that they put up. Except,
- 45:28Speaker 1: The fair point, obviously, they got sweepstakes winners out there
- 45:32Speaker 1: playing wide receiver and they're still getting it done. They're
- 45:35Speaker 1: a little beat up everywhere and they still managed to
- 45:38Speaker 1: get it done.
- 45:40Speaker 3: I have been one of the few guys like in
- 45:42Speaker 3: this millennial sports media football circle that has been the
- 45:46Speaker 3: Baker Mayfield guy, so to speak. And it's less about
- 45:49Speaker 3: thinking that he's a great quarterback and more so what
- 45:53Speaker 3: we've gotten from him in Tampa Bay looks like a
- 45:55Speaker 3: good quarterback. For the most part, it's carried over as
- 45:59Speaker 3: coordinators have left. And I think that this year it's
- 46:02Speaker 3: been really tricky for me because this is about as
- 46:05Speaker 3: unsustainable a level of play as we've ever seen from Baker,
- 46:07Speaker 3: where he's scrambling, he's getting away from these sacks. It
- 46:10Speaker 3: seems like every time he puts the ball in harm's way,
- 46:13Speaker 3: it happens to be an incompletion instead of an interception.
- 46:15Speaker 3: And that usually don't last very long. But he's playing
- 46:18Speaker 3: better than ever. And now people are talking about him
- 46:20Speaker 3: as an MVP. And now I got to be the
- 46:22Speaker 3: asshole that stands up and says, this is not an MVP, guys.
- 46:27Speaker 3: We're not looking at the same thing. And I feel terrible.
- 46:29Speaker 3: I feel like I'm abandoning my post when I'm needed most, man.
- 46:33Speaker 3: But this is not an MVP that I'm watching right now.
- 46:36Speaker 2: I hate feeling like that person. Where it's like, look,
- 46:39Speaker 2: I just want to ride the bobs like you. You
- 46:41Speaker 2: don't want to feel like the Russian judge, right? You
- 46:43Speaker 2: don't want to feel like the Webb Blanket. But people
- 46:46Speaker 2: always got to go too far.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Feel like the damn hipster. Like, I like this thing
- 46:51Speaker 3: when nobody was in on this thing. And now when
- 46:53Speaker 3: everybody's in on this thing, I'm leaving.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I'm like one of those backpack hip hop fans, you know?
- 46:58Speaker 3: Like, oh, you listen to Most Def? I guess I
- 47:01Speaker 3: can't like Most Def no more. You listen to Talib?
- 47:04Speaker 3: I guess I can't listen to Talib no more.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Yeah, just like, oh, look who just showed up.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 47:10Speaker 2: That is where... So many of the undergrounders did on
- 47:13Speaker 2: Eminem too.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Like before the Eminem thing happened, because I don't know
- 47:16Speaker 1: if you all know to remember when we all found
- 47:18Speaker 1: out like gradually and there was this mythical white dude
- 47:20Speaker 1: that was out here killing it.
- 47:22Speaker 2: And so people got in on it early. Then it
- 47:23Speaker 2: got out of hand.
- 47:24Speaker 1: It was like, yeah, you know, there are certain limitations
- 47:28Speaker 1: to his game.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Once you got to the Eminem show, I felt like
- 47:32Speaker 3: that was a great dividing line between These are the
- 47:35Speaker 3: fans that will have him going forward. And these are
- 47:37Speaker 3: all the fans who were here up to this point.
- 47:40Speaker 3: And y'all can have them from here.
- 47:41Speaker 2: That is a great point.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I want to say this also about Tampa because I
- 47:45Speaker 1: think that this gets lost. As much as we talk
- 47:48Speaker 1: about the redemption and the reclamation of Baker Mayfield from
- 47:52Speaker 1: being discarded and what we thought of him, Todd Bowles
- 47:56Speaker 1: is right there in the exact same boat and in
- 48:00Speaker 1: a way that is similar to Baker. And when I
- 48:02Speaker 1: say that, There was a reason that Cleveland moved on
- 48:05Speaker 1: from Baker, right? He wasn't doing this, and then they
- 48:08Speaker 1: were like, eh, no.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Good, right?
- 48:11Speaker 1: Nope, he had a rise, he had fall, and people
- 48:14Speaker 1: typically don't think that you have a rise that comes
- 48:16Speaker 1: after that.
- 48:16Speaker 2: That was the call they had made.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I do not think that Todd Bowles was a good
- 48:20Speaker 1: head coach when he was with the Jets. They had
- 48:22Speaker 1: that 2015 Fitzmagic year, but I did not think he
- 48:26Speaker 1: did a good job as coach there.
- 48:29Speaker 2: He just keeps winning the division here.
- 48:32Speaker 3: And he keeps hiring good coaches. Yeah. That's probably the
- 48:35Speaker 3: biggest trip to me is like usually a defensive guy
- 48:37Speaker 3: runs out of people to call to run his offense
- 48:40Speaker 3: after a certain amount. And it just seems like he
- 48:42Speaker 3: has just shuffled one guy in after another that has
- 48:44Speaker 3: gotten great results with their quarterback and with this offense.
- 48:47Speaker 3: And I would say that this also extends to GM
- 48:50Speaker 3: Jason Light as well. Like I would remember when he
- 48:52Speaker 3: first got that job because he was there right when
- 48:54Speaker 3: Jameis got brought in as the number one draft pick.
- 48:56Speaker 3: And that roster was awful. Outside of Mike Evans, there
- 49:00Speaker 3: was not a whole lot else going on. There were
- 49:02Speaker 3: a lot of misses. I think OJ Howard is a
- 49:04Speaker 3: tight end, you know, in the first round where they
- 49:06Speaker 3: really could have used some more help elsewhere. And then
- 49:09Speaker 3: he gets bailed out by Tom Brady. And I think
- 49:10Speaker 3: that the book on Jason Light before Tom Brady's retirement was, oh,
- 49:15Speaker 3: this is a guy that was kind of mediocre and
- 49:18Speaker 3: was just hanging around because the owner wanted him around.
- 49:20Speaker 3: and then Tom Brady came and bailed him out and
- 49:22Speaker 3: now that we are post Tom Brady what we're seeing
- 49:24Speaker 3: is this has probably been one of the teams that
- 49:27Speaker 3: has had the fewest amount of roster weaknesses on a
- 49:30Speaker 3: year-to-year basis basically since they brought in Tom Brady and
- 49:33Speaker 3: I think that all these guys deserve a lot of
- 49:34Speaker 3: credit because they've hung around and been a regular playoff team,
- 49:38Speaker 3: albeit in the NFC South, where there hasn't been a
- 49:40Speaker 3: whole lot of competition post Drew Brees and post Cam
- 49:43Speaker 3: Newton and post Matt Ryan. But they've held this thing
- 49:46Speaker 3: down basically no matter who has been at the helm,
- 49:48Speaker 3: or excuse me, with Todd Bowles and Jason Lack at
- 49:50Speaker 3: the helm, because they've done a great job of hiring
- 49:53Speaker 3: guys and acquiring depth across this roster.
- 49:55Speaker 1: I would also say 2020 Tom Brady was a little
- 49:57Speaker 1: closer to being Jalen Hurts than he was to being
- 50:00Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. Like that roster was a quarterback away. And
- 50:05Speaker 1: they got the best, oh, you're a quarterback away, question mark,
- 50:08Speaker 1: that you could possibly throw in under those circumstances.
- 50:11Speaker 2: They had dudes, man.
- 50:14Speaker 3: I think that Super Bowl has kind of biased us
- 50:16Speaker 3: to how we think about exactly what that team was.
- 50:18Speaker 2: Go watch that playoff run. Yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Well, remember when they had to stop going out routes?
- 50:24Speaker 1: When they had to stop letting Tom Brady throw out routes?
- 50:26Speaker 2: Because they was just like, gotcha pops.
- 50:29Speaker 3: I think I remember, maybe it was 2019. No, I
- 50:31Speaker 3: think it was 2020, where they played the Saints. And
- 50:34Speaker 3: the Saints defense was just all over these guys. I
- 50:37Speaker 3: was like, this is the team that people want me
- 50:39Speaker 3: to believe that just because Tom Brady is here, they're
- 50:41Speaker 3: going to go win a title. That's not what I see.
- 50:43Speaker 3: And then they get to the playoffs. And then that's where,
- 50:45Speaker 3: you know, similar to Jalen Hurts. It's like, all we
- 50:47Speaker 3: needed was a guy that wasn't going to give this
- 50:49Speaker 3: thing away.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 50:50Speaker 3: We just needed to get you to this point. Now
- 50:52Speaker 3: you go on, you go on ahead, run free.
- 50:54Speaker 1: I assure you every day, Jalen, Jameis Winston was trying
- 50:57Speaker 1: to explain to people that it was this close.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Been me.
- 51:00Speaker 3: I was right there. I was right there.
- 51:02Speaker 2: I'm telling you, we talked about this before.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson is saying the exact same thing right now.
- 51:07Speaker 2: About the Colts.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Like I said, the last time we saw both of
- 51:10Speaker 1: those guys play in a season, there was no question
- 51:13Speaker 1: who I thought was better.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Anthony Richardson. And not because Anthony Richardson was great.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:17Speaker 2: You're never going to convince him he couldn't be doing this.
- 51:21Speaker 3: They sent Daniel Jones home. The Giants, a team that
- 51:23Speaker 3: has not had a quarterback since Eli Manning, sent Daniel
- 51:26Speaker 3: Jones home midseason. This was not supposed to play out
- 51:30Speaker 3: this way. And I'm Anthony Richardson. I'm really sitting here peeved.
- 51:33Speaker 3: So I'm like, yeah, all I needed was another year.
- 51:36Speaker 3: And then you can start telling yourself these lies of,
- 51:38Speaker 3: they didn't call those plays when I was quarterback. You know?
- 51:41Speaker 1: You say the Giants ain't had a quarterback. You say
- 51:43Speaker 1: the Giants ain't had a quarterback. My brother's favorite line
- 51:46Speaker 1: is that one right there.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Politics. That's politics. Management didn't believe in me. That's what
- 51:54Speaker 3: the problem was. Man, you know.
- 51:56Speaker 2: You know how it is, right?
- 51:58Speaker 3: You know how the bosses can be.
- 52:00Speaker 2: That's the invisible hand.
- 52:04Speaker 1: For those of you who are not familiar with the
- 52:06Speaker 1: concept of the invisible hand, in economics, there's a book
- 52:08Speaker 1: called The Wealth of Nations that is like this foundational
- 52:10Speaker 1: economic book and the rationale behind the market, like letting
- 52:13Speaker 1: the market work itself out. is the invisible hand will
- 52:17Speaker 1: guide everything where it's supposed to go. My interpretation is,
- 52:20Speaker 1: by the way, the invisible hand is a slick way
- 52:22Speaker 1: of saying, fuck if I know. The invisible hand is
- 52:25Speaker 1: basically saying, God, God don't make no mistakes. That is
- 52:31Speaker 1: what the invisible hand of the market is as a principle, right?
- 52:35Speaker 2: That's what it is.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Politics is like these seedy invisible hands. The invisible hand
- 52:42Speaker 1: of the underwear, man, you know, they just be doing
- 52:44Speaker 1: stuff Yes.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence type
- 52:49Speaker 3: of mentality. You can't tell me that they're not trying
- 52:52Speaker 3: to sabotage me behind the scenes just because you ain't
- 52:55Speaker 3: heard it. Don't mean it can't be happening.
- 52:58Speaker 1: And it's always the same person who is the victim
- 53:01Speaker 1: of politics in every place, which means one of two things.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Either you're really not good at what you do or
- 53:06Speaker 1: you are a real jerk where everywhere you go, they're like.
- 53:13Speaker 3: Listen, I think we brought up Carson Wentz in that
- 53:15Speaker 3: respect the last time I was on. There is a
- 53:18Speaker 3: reason why some guys don't get to hang around as
- 53:20Speaker 3: backups for longer than a year or two.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Jeff George is the all-timer. And whether right or wrong,
- 53:29Speaker 2: that's what they decided about Cam Newton.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Now, I think Cam Newton also decided that about himself,
- 53:34Speaker 1: which I respect. He's like, I ain't just going to
- 53:36Speaker 1: be hanging around.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Not for no Mac Jones.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't believe it.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Respectfully.
- 53:41Speaker 2: I'm just not going to be just.
- 53:42Speaker 4: I.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Ain't just trying to be on a team.
- 53:45Speaker 4: Right.
- 53:46Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 53:47Speaker 3: Same thing with, like, Odell Beckham, right? Like, do I
- 53:49Speaker 3: believe that Odell Beckham can go play in the slot
- 53:51Speaker 3: for a lot of teams right now? Yeah, I do.
- 53:53Speaker 3: But if I'm Odell Beckham, hey, man, I'm me. Okay?
- 53:58Speaker 3: This is beneath my dignity, okay? I'm not saying I
- 54:02Speaker 3: got to be the star, but you have to treat
- 54:04Speaker 3: me a certain kind of way. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Like, sorry.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Like, I.
- 54:07Speaker 2: And y'all going to expect me to show up on time. Right.
- 54:10Speaker 3: That's the real problem.
- 54:11Speaker 1: So the reason that the Broncos, I think it was
- 54:14Speaker 1: the Broncos, Jerry Rice's last training camp, they didn't keep
- 54:16Speaker 1: him on.
- 54:16Speaker 2: They were like, oh, he could have been the fifth receiver,
- 54:18Speaker 2: but the fifth receiver does special teams.
- 54:21Speaker 3: I can't have Jerry.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Rice out here.
- 54:23Speaker 3: I'm Jerry Rice. I ain't covering no kickoff.
- 54:27Speaker 2: He ain't even got to say, I'm Jerry Rice. You
- 54:30Speaker 2: don't bring that to Jerry Rice. You're just like, hey, man.
- 54:33Speaker 2: We just ain't even going to do that. Can't even
- 54:37Speaker 2: do that.
- 54:37Speaker 3: We only got to have that conversation. I ain't even
- 54:39Speaker 3: going to disrespect you with that.
- 54:40Speaker 1: I ain't going to hold you, partner. I appreciate you. Exactly.
- 54:46Speaker 3: All love here.
- 54:48Speaker 2: No beef. No shade.
- 54:50Speaker 3: No nothing.
- 54:50Speaker 1: But that, Deontay Lee, check him out at the ring
- 54:53Speaker 1: covering the NFL. My brother, I appreciate you.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Appreciate you having me.
- 54:57Speaker 1: On, man.
- 54:57Speaker 3: All right, man.
- 54:58Speaker 1: And ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for joining us
- 55:00Speaker 1: here on The Right Time. We do this here three
- 55:03Speaker 1: times a week. Ryan Brumley handling everything behind the scenes.
