- 0:05Unknown: Hi, everyone, it's to be in a Frederick with wealthy
- 0:08woman lawyer. I'm so glad you're here today. I'm hoping that this
- 0:12topic will really resonate with you because I have had several
- 0:16discussions lately with women, law firm owners who are
- 0:21experiencing what I'm going to talk about today. And that is
- 0:25burnout. Are you battling burnout? I want to tell you, my
- 0:30friend, I have been there. I opened my own law firm business
- 0:34fresh out of law school, I was 40 at the time, and I was
- 0:38determined to make it a success, despite opening it in 2007, the
- 0:44fall of 2007. We remember what happened in the fall of 2007,
- 0:49leading into 2008. Yes, the 2008 recession. But for a while, I
- 0:56was doing really well, because I became a foreclosure law firm. I
- 1:00was working with lenders representing lenders in
- 1:04foreclosure matters, among other things in my practice, but that
- 1:08was really our bread and butter. And so Business was booming.
- 1:13After about a year I of having my own practice, I brought in a
- 1:17partner. And we grew our team, we moved into a bigger fancier
- 1:22office. And profits were really pouring in. But at what cost?
- 1:29Because while we were successful, I hadn't yet learned
- 1:33how to stop trying to be all things to all people. So for
- 1:39quite a while I was functioning as a senior partner, managing
- 1:44attorney, firm administrator litigator with my own caseload.
- 1:50I was functioning as my own assistant. And some days, many
- 1:54days, I was an official, their unofficial therapist, for my
- 2:00employees and my clients who I really needed boundaries back
- 2:05then, I felt so overworked and overwhelmed and completely
- 2:10exhausted. And that's when it happened. Everything blew up in
- 2:15my face all at once, because I was overworking and I was over
- 2:20worrying. It had a profound impact on my health and on my
- 2:24most important relationships. So many things begin to spiral out
- 2:29of control in my personal life. And I made a very difficult
- 2:35choice to walk away from my law firm business. If only someone
- 2:41had told me that there was another way, maybe I would have
- 2:44made a different choice. It took me years of soul searching,
- 2:49therapy, mindset coaching, business coaching, to discover
- 2:53where and why I had gone wrong. Today, I'm on a mission to help
- 2:59other women law firm owners avoid my mistakes. So they can
- 3:03create wealth generating law firms and lifestyles they love.
