- 0:01Speaker 1: The Twins take two out of three from the Colorado Rockies.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Connor prelib with a fantastic ten strikeouts start on Sunday,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Anthony Bonda injured also in that series finale on Sunday,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and a wild one to start things off on Friday
- 0:16Speaker 1: Night with the Twins blowing a seven run lead only
- 0:19Speaker 1: to come back and win it. This is Twin City's
- 0:21Speaker 1: Territory You or Minnesota Twins podcast here on the Fouled
- 0:24Speaker 1: Territory Network. Guym Zach Pierce of the Athletic joined as
- 0:27Speaker 1: always by Dan Hayes, the Athletics, Minnesota Twins beat writer,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and Tyler Duffy, longtime Major leaguer and former Minnesota Twin guys.
- 0:36Speaker 1: This one is going to be a test of how
- 0:38Speaker 1: rose colored your glasses are. On the one hand, the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Twins took two out of three from the MLB worst
- 0:44Speaker 1: Colorado Rockies can ever complain about winning two out of
- 0:47Speaker 1: three in series. On the other hand, it was anything
- 0:49Speaker 1: but easy. We mentioned the wild Friday night game Sunday
- 0:53Speaker 1: was a close one as well. Also, the Twins passed
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Yankees this weekend for most runs scored in the
- 0:59Speaker 1: American League. They've played two more games in the Yankees,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but still the offense continues to put up runs. On
- 1:05Speaker 1: the other hand, they also got outscored in the series
- 1:07Speaker 1: by the Rockies. Overall, eighteen seventeen was the final tally. Obviously,
- 1:11Speaker 1: the injury to an already beleaguered bullpen doesn't help things.
- 1:16Speaker 1: But Dan, overall, are we yay or nay about the weekend?
- 1:21Speaker 2: I don't know if it's yay or nay on the weekend.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I feel like I'm flying to Houston right now. But
- 1:26Speaker 2: the way with the Twins.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Luck this weekend, I feel like I should be going
- 1:29Speaker 3: to Vegas because.
- 1:30Speaker 2: It is that there were lucky that they're sitting in
- 1:33Speaker 2: this position having won two of three.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Friday could have been the kind of epic disaster that
- 1:38Speaker 3: sinks seasons.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Blowing a seven to nothing lead after Taj Bradley through
- 1:43Speaker 2: a gem for seven and then left.
- 1:45Speaker 3: With two runners on and the bullpen, you know, blows it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But the thing that came out of that was Andrew
- 1:53Speaker 2: Morris delivered in the tenth just a crystal clear, perfect inning,
- 1:57Speaker 2: not allowing that inherited runner to go, and they come through.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I mean they they came back with the Byron Buckston
- 2:05Speaker 2: like That was a good ninth inning for them, the
- 2:07Speaker 2: bottom of the ninth, not the top. The top was horrific,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but it was a good bottom of the ninth to
- 2:12Speaker 2: come back and respond, even if there was some luck
- 2:14Speaker 2: involved with the bounce that Byron Buxton got, because that
- 2:17Speaker 2: could have been a double play. I don't think Byron
- 2:19Speaker 2: grounds into double play, but you never know. It's a
- 2:22Speaker 2: hot shot the third, so they escaped that and then
- 2:26Speaker 2: they get the win voice Lewis with his first career
- 2:28Speaker 2: walk off. You have to feel extremely lucky, or you know,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I guess you could say it was a ludicrous victory
- 2:36Speaker 2: that they have on Friday night.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you.
- 2:41Speaker 2: But then you come back and on Sunday and you
- 2:43Speaker 2: have a good wind and Connor Prilip was really good Saturday.
- 2:48Speaker 2: You're in your bullpen day, Mike Greatest, although he's turned
- 2:51Speaker 2: it into like a five inning game now, but it's
- 2:54Speaker 2: it's still a bullpen day. Look, you get who you
- 2:58Speaker 2: get in the schedule, You play who you play. You
- 3:02Speaker 2: want to win, regardless of where they are, what they're doing.
- 3:04Speaker 2: The Rockies offense is not the Rockies offense of the
- 3:07Speaker 2: first part of the season. It's a pretty good group
- 3:09Speaker 2: and man Hunter Goodman really was outstanding in this series, and.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I got a real good look at that. I finally
- 3:19Speaker 1: made it out to a game for the first time
- 3:21Speaker 1: on Saturday. Yes, I used Seki code territory ten uh.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And of course it was the one loss of the series.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But yeah, Hunter Goodman, sign me up that guy three.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Homers on Saturday.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he hurt some baseballs, Tyler.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I think we joked on Friday night that that's the
- 3:42Speaker 1: kind of win that starts the Championship DVD. But yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: it certainly would have been the most demoralizing loss of
- 3:50Speaker 1: the season.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just.
- 3:54Speaker 5: When you're the bullpen, like it's obviously been the biggest
- 3:58Speaker 5: glaring sign all year, and when the team is firing
- 4:03Speaker 5: on all cylinders otherwise, that's when it really gets exposed,
- 4:07Speaker 5: you know, and zoomed in on, and you know it
- 4:10Speaker 5: stinks because like there's games like that where you're that
- 4:13Speaker 5: guy or a couple of guys that had the bad
- 4:15Speaker 5: day and you come in everybody's fired up and you're
- 4:18Speaker 5: just like, yeah, you know, I did a great job today.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Guys who like we're slapping hands, But it definitely sticks
- 4:25Speaker 5: with you for a minute if you're that guy. But
- 4:28Speaker 5: at the same time, to win that game, you show
- 4:30Speaker 5: up the next DA, everybody's still fired up. You know,
- 4:32Speaker 5: you don't assume somebody's gonna hit three homers off of
- 4:35Speaker 5: you that day either. But winning that game, like you
- 4:38Speaker 5: said at the intro, I mean, if you had lost
- 4:41Speaker 5: that game, that is the one that's just like, oh no,
- 4:44Speaker 5: like what just happened. But you know, powering through that one,
- 4:48Speaker 5: slamming the door, you know, Byron getting the balance that
- 4:51Speaker 5: he needed, All the right things happened, and you know,
- 4:54Speaker 5: baseball gods were on our side, and you know that's
- 4:57Speaker 5: all you can do is is go play. You got
- 4:59Speaker 5: to make every out, you know, twenty seven out sometimes more.
- 5:03Speaker 5: You know, the game has to be played. You can't
- 5:04Speaker 5: run the clock out, you can't take a knee, you can't.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Do anything else.
- 5:07Speaker 5: And so until that last out's made, these guys aren't
- 5:10Speaker 5: going to quit. And they've we've seen that over and
- 5:12Speaker 5: over again.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I mean we even saw it on Saturday, although Zach,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I think you did not see it at that point.
- 5:19Speaker 3: But they I did.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yeah, shame, but I mean, yes, there was a little rally,
- 5:28Speaker 2: like there was even a little light down eight to two,
- 5:31Speaker 2: you know, I mean, that's that's one thing I keep
- 5:35Speaker 2: seeing the fans that do pay attention say, is, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 2: last year the team had expectations and was very disappointing.
- 5:42Speaker 2: This year's team went in with little expectation, and the
- 5:45Speaker 2: way they play is like it brings some enthusiasm for
- 5:49Speaker 2: fans because you just you can't turn the TV off,
- 5:52Speaker 2: you don't. You can't really ever just say it's over
- 5:55Speaker 2: with the offense the way it is, and I think
- 5:57Speaker 2: that that has really helped this team endure the pitching
- 6:01Speaker 2: struggles that it's had, because yes, they are the number
- 6:04Speaker 2: one runs scoring offense in the American League. And if
- 6:07Speaker 2: they're not the team that's given up the most runs
- 6:10Speaker 2: in the American League, they're really close.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I mean their pitching staff has been great and the
- 6:14Speaker 3: worst yes, a yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Like when you think about that, that's wild. Here we
- 6:20Speaker 2: are talking about this team still enthusiastically. When you have
- 6:23Speaker 2: the most prolific run scoring.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Offense and the pitching staff it gives up the most runs.
- 6:29Speaker 2: So it says a little bit about this group and
- 6:31Speaker 2: why they're fun even though they are what.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They are well and all of that was on display
- 6:35Speaker 1: this weekend, Like, seventeen runs in three games is still
- 6:39Speaker 1: over five runs a game.
- 6:40Speaker 3: That's great, It's great.
- 6:43Speaker 1: The starting pitching was was pretty solid across the board.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I mean, Mike Crady's struggled but still kept the damage
- 6:48Speaker 1: to a minimum and again is more than doing his
- 6:51Speaker 1: job as the stop gap starter. But then the bullpen
- 6:54Speaker 1: eleven runs in nine and two thirds innings, although on
- 6:57Speaker 1: Sunday they were very solid when they absolutely have to
- 7:00Speaker 1: be because there weren't any extra runs to give up there.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and that's we've Tyler, you can talk about that.
- 7:09Speaker 2: The stability and then bonda injury is definitely troubling for
- 7:13Speaker 2: that reason. We don't know what it is. It's only
- 7:15Speaker 2: been described as a side so far.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Who knows if that's oblique, who knows if that's a lot,
- 7:20Speaker 3: who knows what.
- 7:21Speaker 2: It is that but that group between Gomez and Morris
- 7:26Speaker 2: and Bonda had been really stabilizing to the point where
- 7:29Speaker 2: at least you're going to get the ones you think
- 7:31Speaker 2: you should get.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And I feel like, you know, the crap shoot.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Part definitely makes the managers job tough in the fifth
- 7:38Speaker 2: and sixth things, But when you have guys in seventh
- 7:40Speaker 2: eighth and ninth that.
- 7:41Speaker 3: You think can at least get you through with it.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It has to give a team some some confidence.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's just like having the top of your
- 7:49Speaker 5: order come up, or you know, you equate it to
- 7:51Speaker 5: your best starter coming out. It's like, all right, we've
- 7:54Speaker 5: got a three run lead. We're going into the seventh
- 7:56Speaker 5: or eighth. We know X, Y and Z are coming
- 7:59Speaker 5: in to finish the game. You know, forever it was
- 8:02Speaker 5: Perk for so long. You know, it was Roger for
- 8:04Speaker 5: a minute, whoever it was. It was just like, there's
- 8:06Speaker 5: our guy, this game's over. And now it's kind of
- 8:11Speaker 5: feeling like that way, we're getting close. But at the
- 8:14Speaker 5: same time, all uh, you know, a couple of times
- 8:17Speaker 5: this weekend it's it's not that and you know, Shelta's
- 8:21Speaker 5: mentioned in a couple of times, like it's it's not
- 8:24Speaker 5: the easiest navigating the back end of some of these
- 8:27Speaker 5: games because you simply don't have that length, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 5: the depth of quality, you know, not even quality that true,
- 8:35Speaker 5: like you know exactly what you're going to get every
- 8:37Speaker 5: time out, and you know, the consistency just hasn't been there.
- 8:41Speaker 5: It has been at times, but at the same time,
- 8:44Speaker 5: relievers are going to throw up some downs just like
- 8:46Speaker 5: starters and hopefully Bonda.
- 8:49Speaker 4: You know, it was a cramp.
- 8:50Speaker 5: You know, maybe it was a hydration thing more than
- 8:52Speaker 5: it was something actually being injured. Because he goes down,
- 8:56Speaker 5: you just lost the lefty that was thrown ninety five
- 8:58Speaker 5: ninety six that you don't really have one to just
- 9:01Speaker 5: plug back in.
- 9:02Speaker 4: That's a tough piece to fix. Right there, we'll.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Talk a little bit more about Anthony Bonda's injury. We'll
- 9:10Speaker 1: look ahead to the Houston series. I have a story
- 9:12Speaker 1: to tell about Saturday's game and more when we come back.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Right after this.
- 9:19Speaker 6: People dehydration sucks. Quint's electrolyte stick packs to the rescue.
- 9:25Speaker 6: I order them, I use them all of the time.
- 9:29Speaker 7: Somebody who may or may not have had some adult
- 9:31Speaker 7: beverages in their life. The next day, you know what flavor,
- 9:33Speaker 7: I like watermelon, and I don't like watermelon. I'll go
- 9:36Speaker 7: raspberry and it helps me to get my citrus salt in.
- 9:40Speaker 7: But if I do, it helps me to get back
- 9:42Speaker 7: to normal, feeling good and ready to go the next day.
- 9:45Speaker 6: Yep, tough workout or dry mouth in the morning, whatever
- 9:48Speaker 6: it is, this is going to help you out. Quint
- 9:50Speaker 6: always has the best deals for you. You can go

- 10:23Speaker 1: All right, we are back here on Twin City Surgery.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Apologies for the airport noise in the background of Dan
- 10:30Speaker 1: Hayes's a traveling Man's Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Right, seriously, what a jerk?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Right?
- 10:37Speaker 1: We we mentioned Anthony bond injury. He left Sunday's game
- 10:40Speaker 1: in the top of the ninth inning, hit the first
- 10:42Speaker 1: batter of the inning and then immediately gestured to the
- 10:44Speaker 1: dugout and appeared to be favoring his side. Dan, what
- 10:49Speaker 1: what do we know about the ad?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all that was. I wasn't there, but the
- 10:53Speaker 2: reporters that were there said that they were. They were
- 10:56Speaker 2: told this his side. If you look at it, you
- 10:58Speaker 2: don't know because I remember when Tyler texted the group
- 11:01Speaker 2: after it happened, going oh no, and you could see
- 11:04Speaker 2: like his initial reaction was was it the shoulder because
- 11:07Speaker 2: the way he signaled it it looked weird his side. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 2: it looked like that. Apparently it's his side. I don't
- 11:15Speaker 2: know what that means. Honestly, we'll probably have a better
- 11:18Speaker 2: idea later tonight. You can see that, you know, when
- 11:21Speaker 2: I get something to put it on Twitter on Blue
- 11:24Speaker 2: Sky and you can check it out there. But certainly
- 11:26Speaker 2: it's troubling because this is the guy that has been
- 11:29Speaker 2: especially since early May. You know, he gave up the
- 11:32Speaker 2: three run homer on Friday and gave up three runs
- 11:35Speaker 2: in the.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I was a goodman hit the three run homer off
- 11:38Speaker 3: him to put.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Them ahead, and it was jarring because that's the first
- 11:42Speaker 2: time he's looked humid in a while. And I mean
- 11:45Speaker 2: it was something like going into that one run in
- 11:47Speaker 2: his last like eighteen innings or something.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Some ridiculous stretch.
- 11:52Speaker 2: But he's been so solidifying because he's thrown hard again
- 11:55Speaker 2: and we've talked about it before death, but that the
- 11:58Speaker 2: World Series hangover, he is definitely early in the year
- 12:03Speaker 2: as basketball velosity was ninety one ninety two, he was going,
- 12:05Speaker 2: where is my velocity? Wedens it come back? And this
- 12:09Speaker 2: is a guy that's pitch deep in October two years
- 12:11Speaker 2: in a row. Probably just the body was waiting for
- 12:13Speaker 2: some warm weather.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's and it's tough, man.
- 12:17Speaker 5: That's a lot of innings, a lot of ups and downs,
- 12:19Speaker 5: you know, for that matter, adrenaline to finish the year
- 12:22Speaker 5: where you're just riding on just caffeine and whatever they're
- 12:25Speaker 5: giving you, and you know, it just takes a minute.
- 12:28Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:28Speaker 5: I've just talking the other day with guys about even
- 12:30Speaker 5: just shown up to spring training in the past was such.
- 12:33Speaker 5: It is an easy ramp up into his season and
- 12:36Speaker 5: you get ready and now it's you're expected to show
- 12:39Speaker 5: up game ready. You know, like it's excuse me, like
- 12:43Speaker 5: it's August and it's it's hard on your body. It's
- 12:46Speaker 5: hard to maintain that for a regular season, let it alone.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Back to back World Series, Like, that's just it's a
- 12:52Speaker 5: huge difference that it's hard to even explain.
- 12:55Speaker 4: It's just a tax.
- 12:56Speaker 5: You get done and your body is just like, please,
- 12:58Speaker 5: can I just like do nothing for a couple of days.
- 13:00Speaker 5: And you know, Roger and I used to joke about
- 13:02Speaker 5: the rigor mortis sets in on the off days because
- 13:05Speaker 5: you get to the field sometimes and it's like your
- 13:07Speaker 5: joints just don't work anymore, you know. But Bonda, hopefully
- 13:11Speaker 5: it's just a quick little something, get a massage or
- 13:14Speaker 5: two and some heat packs on there, and get him
- 13:17Speaker 5: back out there while he's hot, because, like you said,
- 13:18Speaker 5: he's given up I pulled out. He's since May tenth.
- 13:20Speaker 5: I think he's given up three runs. So we need
- 13:23Speaker 5: him out there.
- 13:24Speaker 1: In the before Friday Night's two runs loud, the previous
- 13:29Speaker 1: nineteen innings one run, four seventy or a.
- 13:34Speaker 4: He had me that line out.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So well, We'll wait to see what comes of Bond
- 13:40Speaker 1: his injury. But on the bright side, from the pitching
- 13:42Speaker 1: perspective for the Twins, some great starts in a very
- 13:46Speaker 1: encouraging outing Sunday from Connor Prelip, Dan, Yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Connor Prelip, The stats were amazing and look, what I
- 13:53Speaker 2: like about this best is that this was because they
- 13:56Speaker 2: engineered a few extra days off for him. We've talked
- 13:59Speaker 2: about how many you know, this is a guy with
- 14:01Speaker 2: too Tommy John surgeries and that he is going to
- 14:04Speaker 2: his workload just isn't there. I mean, he had eighty
- 14:06Speaker 2: two innings last year and that was a professional high.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It was about I think he hit forty before that
- 14:14Speaker 2: over the previous like five years, dating back to high school.
- 14:17Speaker 2: This is a guy who just hasn't been on the mound.
- 14:19Speaker 2: So they're going to have to manage the workload. And
- 14:21Speaker 2: they gave him extra days. When when Joe Ryan was sick,
- 14:24Speaker 2: they threw it extra day. You know, they pushed him
- 14:27Speaker 2: back a day, which pushed back to bullpen day. And
- 14:30Speaker 2: basically they moved prelip from Wednesday all the way to
- 14:33Speaker 2: Sunday to give him extra built in days.
- 14:35Speaker 3: And now his next one comes with the day off
- 14:37Speaker 3: two because there's a day off in between Houston and
- 14:39Speaker 3: New York.
- 14:40Speaker 2: They're going to have to do this and give him
- 14:42Speaker 2: extra time so that his workload just doesn't spiral out
- 14:45Speaker 2: of control. But the way he responded on like a
- 14:48Speaker 2: nine day rest was outstanding. No walks and I know
- 14:52Speaker 2: he hit two batters but ten strikeouts.
- 14:55Speaker 3: He had really good stuff.
- 14:56Speaker 2: And again that Rockies lineup for the last like two
- 14:59Speaker 2: weeks has been red hot. They've been one of the
- 15:01Speaker 2: best offenses in baseball the last two weeks. He's the
- 15:04Speaker 2: first guy to cool down Hunter Goodman and Hunter Goodman
- 15:07Speaker 2: hit four home runs between Friday and Saturday, and Prilips
- 15:10Speaker 2: struck him out in the last matchup.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I just I liked the way he attacked. His off
- 15:16Speaker 3: speed is so good.
- 15:17Speaker 2: There was some real good consistency with this fastball ystrada
- 15:20Speaker 2: that we that's his pitch that you see come and go.
- 15:24Speaker 2: He just doesn't command it at times and gets him
- 15:26Speaker 2: in trouble and he gets out of it with his
- 15:28Speaker 2: slider and his curve.
- 15:29Speaker 3: And he is man.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I mean, do you think about this, he taught himself
- 15:33Speaker 2: or the twins helped him develop that curve this year
- 15:37Speaker 2: in January, that curve has come along that much to
- 15:40Speaker 2: be a slow pitch to mix in there. When you
- 15:43Speaker 2: think about that that he's been throwing the curve for
- 15:46Speaker 2: six months and where he is development wise, you know,
- 15:50Speaker 2: this is encouraging.
- 15:51Speaker 3: And you again, you have to be worried. You have
- 15:54Speaker 3: to watch that workload.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You can't overload him and just you gotta let his
- 15:59Speaker 2: body absorbed this year. So yeah, next year and then
- 16:03Speaker 2: the year after that because this stuff is so good.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a tough spot.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Tyler rest versus rust for a picture. Where are we
- 16:13Speaker 1: at on.
- 16:14Speaker 5: The obviously he responded, I mean very well to having
- 16:20Speaker 5: the full nine days off.
- 16:21Speaker 3: He did not.
- 16:23Speaker 4: It did not have the opposite. He was rejuvenated.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he was sitting and felt like ninety
- 16:29Speaker 5: six ninety seven early on even and I was like, okay,
- 16:32Speaker 5: like you know, you put it ran an average guy
- 16:35Speaker 5: on the shelf, shelf for that long. You know they're
- 16:38Speaker 5: going to take an inning or two to get back
- 16:40Speaker 5: and get their feet under him. But it seems like
- 16:42Speaker 5: he's responding well to it. The weird one will be
- 16:46Speaker 5: that the trouble spot is down the road come August
- 16:49Speaker 5: September when you need him to pitch, and it's like,
- 16:54Speaker 5: what do we do? You know it kind of they
- 16:56Speaker 5: kind of worried about it when they called me up
- 16:58Speaker 5: the first time to start, and I was, you know,
- 17:01Speaker 5: on an innings limit and the minor leagues they set
- 17:03Speaker 5: in place and I went up and made ten starts,
- 17:06Speaker 5: and basically every time I pitched her like how you feeling,
- 17:08Speaker 5: and it's like.
- 17:09Speaker 4: I don't I feel like a pitch. You know what
- 17:10Speaker 4: do you?
- 17:11Speaker 5: What do you want from me? So I think it's
- 17:13Speaker 5: gonna be one. They're gonna have to trust him and
- 17:15Speaker 5: at times maybe they're gonna have to say, hey, you're okay,
- 17:18Speaker 5: or maybe he's maybe just skip them all together one
- 17:20Speaker 5: time through. Like they're gonna have to get, you know,
- 17:23Speaker 5: tricky with it to make it work. But you know,
- 17:26Speaker 5: you have to keep an arm like his, like Dan says,
- 17:28Speaker 5: you got to keep him healthy for the long term
- 17:30Speaker 5: because this is a guy that you drafted and you
- 17:33Speaker 5: have now that he's here and he's going to contribute,
- 17:37Speaker 5: it's just keeping him on the field now.
- 17:38Speaker 4: It's the biggest priority.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I think.
- 17:41Speaker 2: One thing that's interesting, Okay, so we have the day
- 17:43Speaker 2: off in between Houston New York, so there's a day
- 17:45Speaker 2: off for his next one, so he goes on six
- 17:47Speaker 2: days there. I believe there's a day off right after
- 17:51Speaker 2: New York too, going into that Cleveland series, So you
- 17:55Speaker 2: have two days off to give him extra time between
- 17:58Speaker 2: all his starts into the start break and then we'll
- 18:01Speaker 2: see them use it again and manipulate.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It where he gets a low extra.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Look, I've seen this done before, Chris Sale in twenty twelve.
- 18:08Speaker 2: You know, you just they they had to find a
- 18:11Speaker 2: way because of like his workload too.
- 18:14Speaker 3: To build in days. You're right, they will have to
- 18:16Speaker 3: give him a start off. Here.
- 18:17Speaker 2: There one positive development I think that you know, at
- 18:22Speaker 2: least there's a sign, a good sign after the Mickabel news,
- 18:26Speaker 2: Bailey over threw a start at Cedar Rapids on Saturday.
- 18:30Speaker 2: He threw fifty seven pitches. He was supposed to throw fifty.
- 18:33Speaker 2: He went three and thirty. He gave up seven hits.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I don't care about the stats. I don't care about
- 18:37Speaker 2: the runs. He gave up seven hits in three runs.
- 18:39Speaker 2: It was they was up and down in that fourth time.
- 18:43Speaker 2: And they're going to try and get Bailey back here. Clearly,
- 18:46Speaker 2: I would bet he gets another one the minors, just
- 18:49Speaker 2: because that's the responsible thing to do, especially with the
- 18:51Speaker 2: days off. But you'll see Bailey back soon enough that
- 18:55Speaker 2: they need that help, and then maybe if they're still
- 18:57Speaker 2: in it like this, maybe then you you explore getting
- 19:01Speaker 2: another starting pitcher at the end of the month. To
- 19:04Speaker 2: just manage this because you need starting pitching, especially with
- 19:08Speaker 2: free lip in the spot.
- 19:09Speaker 3: He is.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Uh.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Before we move on quickly, I just want to address
- 19:15Speaker 1: the elephant in the room. Yes, I did leave Saturday's
- 19:17Speaker 1: game early. The there's just no variety in the selection
- 19:24Speaker 1: of wine at target Field, and I have to fix that.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I don't know the background. Maybe maybe dark Horse is
- 19:30Speaker 1: paying the Twins handsomely for the right to basically own
- 19:34Speaker 1: the wine situation there. But like you've got so many
- 19:36Speaker 1: different types of beers. You can get any cocktail you want,
- 19:39Speaker 1: but one brand of wine. It can be tough for
- 19:42Speaker 1: some people who like flying to want to stick around
- 19:46Speaker 1: for a nine inning baseball game. That's all I'm That's
- 19:48Speaker 1: all I'm saying.
- 19:49Speaker 2: So, I mean, variety is the spice of life, right
- 19:53Speaker 2: like they should.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I mean, you have you can.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Get bloody Mary with a cheeseburger on it, but a
- 19:59Speaker 5: bottle of wine.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I mean it's like going to the liquor store for beer.
- 20:03Speaker 1: There's thirty or forty different kind of like every stand
- 20:06Speaker 1: has something different, but wine. No, anyway, it's tan.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Are you saying wait, wait, are Zach are you saying
- 20:15Speaker 2: that if they had more wine different types of wine.
- 20:17Speaker 3: You'd be back more often? Like should we You know
- 20:20Speaker 3: they have the seedon ticket.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Allder program where they're giving fifteen percent discounts for every game.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Like, if there's more wine, would you attend more often?
- 20:29Speaker 1: It would be easier to convince people to accompany me,
- 20:31Speaker 1: which would probably bring me to the game more often.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yes, I think that's a cell. That's a real good
- 20:38Speaker 2: selling point. There you go, get that one up the
- 20:40Speaker 2: food chain to leadership.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Get on at twins. All right, we're moving on. Guess what, guys,
- 20:48Speaker 1: I guess this isn't really a guess what? You all know.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Baseball seasons in full swing. FanDuel is giving you a
- 20:52Speaker 1: chance to call your shot with Daily Dingers. Joining the
- 20:55Speaker 1: action is easy to just make your free pick on

- 20:59Speaker 1: you're right, you'll get a profit boost to use on
- 21:01Speaker 1: your next vet for a chance at extra winnings. That's
- 21:04Speaker 1: just another reason why fan Duel is the home of
- 21:07Speaker 1: home runs. We're still on a roll with Daily Dingers
- 21:11Speaker 1: and we're gonna try again Twins in Houston tonight, Tyler,
- 21:14Speaker 1: right in your backyard, are you going, Tyler?
- 21:16Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 21:17Speaker 5: I think I'm gonna pop over Sarah. The boys get
- 21:20Speaker 5: back at like seven, so I may show up after
- 21:23Speaker 5: the first.
- 21:23Speaker 1: We'll see nice Peter Lambert is on the mound right
- 21:26Speaker 1: handed picture a little stingy on the home runs this year,
- 21:29Speaker 1: only seven allowed, but has allowed one at least and
- 21:32Speaker 1: each of his last four starts has not faced the
- 21:35Speaker 1: twins this year. We'll start with Dan today.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Who you got.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna go with Cody Clemens. Didn't one deep in
- 21:43Speaker 2: the heart of Texas, like he loves the dramatic home
- 21:46Speaker 2: runs where dad has played and.
- 21:49Speaker 3: The place that he grew up.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I mean, he lives there year round, and like, you know,
- 21:55Speaker 2: the place that he was most present for his dad's
- 21:58Speaker 2: career was Houston. He loved, you know, that was the
- 22:01Speaker 2: only place that he was really old enough. He got
- 22:03Speaker 2: out some Yankees obviously too, but he remembers a lot
- 22:06Speaker 2: of the Houston time.
- 22:08Speaker 3: And so he, you know, last year came.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Up and had that big home run at Fenway with
- 22:14Speaker 2: Roger in the building, as he calls him, Roger Clements.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I would think that.
- 22:19Speaker 2: He Roger Clemens will be in the building again today
- 22:21Speaker 2: and this whole series. Let's go with Cody Clemens with
- 22:24Speaker 2: the home run today.
- 22:26Speaker 5: All right, Tyler, I'm going with another Texan. You know
- 22:30Speaker 5: he played well with the Rangers. I'm going Josh Bell.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I like him in that, especially in What's it now?
- 22:38Speaker 5: Dyke in Park as if I'd say en Roun. You know,
- 22:42Speaker 5: getting that Texas air in his lungs gives guys some
- 22:45Speaker 5: power sometimes.
- 22:45Speaker 4: So I'm gonna go with Josh.
- 22:48Speaker 1: You took mine, Tyler, But that's all right. You guys
- 22:51Speaker 1: will leave me with with Trevor Larnick. He had six
- 22:54Speaker 1: hits in the Colorado Series tops for the Twins.
- 22:58Speaker 4: He's hot. We'll go.
- 23:00Speaker 1: We'll go back to him. I think I picked him
- 23:01Speaker 1: last time too, but that's allowed. That's okay. Brooks Lee
- 23:04Speaker 1: also a nice series for the Twins, five hits and
- 23:07Speaker 1: eleven at bats in a home run. Cody k Dan's talking. Sorry,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I got I got too much noise in the back there.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I had to meet you.
- 23:14Speaker 2: You know. You know what I like about this is
- 23:18Speaker 2: that we're leaving Byron Buckston on the table.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah, challenging ourselves. Challenge.
- 23:25Speaker 2: This is just a challenge, Like Byron Buckson is a
- 23:27Speaker 2: cheat code in this game, Like you could pick him
- 23:30Speaker 2: and you have a really good chance at winning, or you.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Can cheat, like you can just turn off that cheat
- 23:35Speaker 3: code and try and pick something else. Soude. Yeah, it's
- 23:41Speaker 3: our baseball aptitude being tested here, all right.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Well, you can play Daily Dingers too. Head over to
- 23:46Speaker 1: FanDuel dot com slash podcast to get started. That's FanDuel

- 24:16Speaker 8: Gambling problem call or text one eight hundred gambler.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Guys.
- 24:25Speaker 1: We talked about it already, but the Twins are off
- 24:28Speaker 1: to Houston and Tyler's backyard for a three game set.
- 24:31Speaker 1: They met a target field earlier this year, back in May,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and the Twins took two of three then, and they
- 24:37Speaker 1: sure could use it again, Dan.
- 24:39Speaker 3: That could Zebbie Matthews tonight. That's a big one.
- 24:42Speaker 2: He's been pitching pretty well of late, just got to
- 24:44Speaker 2: keep that going. Keep you know, there's going to be
- 24:47Speaker 2: a mistake. You're facing yourd On Alvarez. There's a chance
- 24:50Speaker 2: he's going to get you. Let him get you with
- 24:52Speaker 2: the solo home run, move on, beat the rest of
- 24:55Speaker 2: this team.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Like that's just you've got to keep the momentum going
- 24:58Speaker 3: the way you had it.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Dodgers series took a little bit away, almost blew it
- 25:03Speaker 2: on Friday.
- 25:04Speaker 3: We'll find out about Anthony Bonda today.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But you know you have Zebbi going, and then you
- 25:08Speaker 2: have Joe Ryan in this series too, So you gotta
- 25:11Speaker 2: anytime you have that, you got to try and win
- 25:13Speaker 2: two a three, and you gotta keep them moment I'm.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Going Tyler, Uh, you mentioned sorry Dan, you mentioned Joe Ryan.
- 25:23Speaker 1: He faces Mike Burrows on Tuesday, and then Wednesday, also
- 25:26Speaker 1: in night game, Taj Bradley against Tots. Tyler, It's uh,
- 25:31Speaker 1: it feels like the start of a Maybe I say
- 25:34Speaker 1: this every week, but it's a pretty faithful stretch of
- 25:35Speaker 1: the Twins schedule.
- 25:36Speaker 4: After this, they're in New York where.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Nothing can possibly go wrong. Uh, then then home against
- 25:43Speaker 1: Cleveland obviously division leaders or actually didn't look at the
- 25:46Speaker 1: standings today I'm not sure if they're ahead of the
- 25:47Speaker 1: White Sox at the moment, but they're right there. And
- 25:50Speaker 1: then the Angels come to town as well. If you
- 25:52Speaker 1: if you can find a way to win more than
- 25:55Speaker 1: half of these games, you're feeling pretty good about yourself
- 25:57Speaker 1: going into the All Star Break. If it goes the
- 25:59Speaker 1: other direction, though, head to the All Star Break on
- 26:01Speaker 1: a down note with that trade deadline looming. Uh, it
- 26:04Speaker 1: feels like this series, especially given that Houston is right
- 26:08Speaker 1: there in the wildcard race as well, hit a couple
- 26:10Speaker 1: of games ahead of the Twins is especially important.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Yeah, they're the Astros aren't trying to to lose either.
- 26:17Speaker 5: You know, at the end of the day, and like
- 26:19Speaker 5: Dan said, the big one is jord On for this series,
- 26:22Speaker 5: you know that we gave up. It was mentioned, I
- 26:24Speaker 5: think Lamar mentioned it, and some of the show covered
- 26:27Speaker 5: the game coverage. You know, solo Homers are fine.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Whatever. One run is not going to beat you three
- 26:32Speaker 4: mite sometimes.
- 26:33Speaker 5: But you know, at that point, we got our guys going,
- 26:37Speaker 5: you know, the top of the rotations coming through, especially
- 26:39Speaker 5: here against Houston. It's a good way. We've just won
- 26:42Speaker 5: two games. You won the Sunday game. Get some build
- 26:45Speaker 5: some momentum before you head to New York. Obviously you're
- 26:48Speaker 5: you would rather have Joe and and todj thrown in
- 26:51Speaker 5: that series, probably, But at the same time, you know,
- 26:53Speaker 5: it's they're still hitters. They're they're beat up to, they're
- 26:57Speaker 5: not the same Yankees of of you know, even opening day,
- 27:01Speaker 5: they're still going to be good. You know, I think
- 27:02Speaker 5: Paul Goldschmidt's been tearing the cover off the ball, but
- 27:06Speaker 5: for the most part, they're They're human at the end
- 27:07Speaker 5: of the day. And I think that's what you know, Shelty,
- 27:10Speaker 5: we talked about him a lot. It's he's he's relaying
- 27:13Speaker 5: these messages. It's like, guys, you still got to go
- 27:15Speaker 5: play baseball. You know, you can't worry about the result,
- 27:18Speaker 5: you anything like that. You just got to do your
- 27:20Speaker 5: job today. And you know, with guys that are out
- 27:23Speaker 5: and guys that are playing wherever they're playing, it's it's
- 27:26Speaker 5: show up and do the job you're asked to do.
- 27:28Speaker 5: And and when it's your turns over, it's next man up.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And you know.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Coming here to Houston, like I said, they played well
- 27:34Speaker 5: and with the against the Rangers last week or whenever
- 27:37Speaker 5: that was, Uh, you know, I think guys will settle
- 27:39Speaker 5: in quick.
- 27:40Speaker 4: It's a comfy pace to play.
- 27:41Speaker 5: It's you know, they've got the roof, it's seventy four
- 27:44Speaker 5: degrees inside and a short porch and left. So hopefully
- 27:47Speaker 5: our offense keeps putting up numbers like they are and
- 27:50Speaker 5: they just put up more than we allow. You know,
- 27:52Speaker 5: that's that's a great recipe to win a baseball game.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Are you guys going to get together at all while
- 27:57Speaker 1: you're there?
- 27:58Speaker 3: Oh?
- 27:58Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I'll be up there.
- 27:59Speaker 5: I'll get my fancy sticker press badge, and oh I'll
- 28:03Speaker 5: get some ice cream. I'm now learning about the eats
- 28:06Speaker 5: of the media crew. They got their whole lounge up
- 28:09Speaker 5: there with all the good stuff.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Why got blow up my spot? Why got blow up
- 28:13Speaker 3: my spot like that?
- 28:15Speaker 5: The hottest ticket in town is the media lounge, all right?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Well, as Dan and Tyler make plans to do some
- 28:25Speaker 1: serious damage to the food spread at the Houston Astros
- 28:30Speaker 1: press box, we will take this opportunity to remind you
- 28:33Speaker 1: that we'd love to have you following along. Give us
- 28:36Speaker 1: a subscribe, a like, a comment wherever you like to
- 28:39Speaker 1: consume this podcast. If you're watching on YouTube right now,
- 28:42Speaker 1: there's a QR code on the screen.
- 28:44Speaker 3: We love it.
- 28:44Speaker 1: If you'd follow along and subscribe, we're on our way
- 28:47Speaker 1: to five hundred subs. We're also on Spotify, Apple, wherever
- 28:50Speaker 1: you prefer to get your podcasts. Three shows a week,
- 28:54Speaker 1: and we'll be back with you on Wednesday, after the
- 28:57Speaker 1: first two games of this Houston series, we'll tee up
- 29:00Speaker 1: the finale against the Astros, and we'll peek ahead to
- 29:03Speaker 1: the weekend in the Bronx, which has usually been a
- 29:06Speaker 1: house of horrors for the Twins for the last couple
- 29:08Speaker 1: of decades, but they'll try to get things done against
- 29:12Speaker 1: one of the al's best teams. Twins forty and forty five,
- 29:16Speaker 1: four and a half games behind both Chicago and Cleveland
- 29:20Speaker 1: in the American League Central and two games out of
- 29:23Speaker 1: the wildcard as they start a consequential series with Houston,
- 29:27Speaker 1: kind of like their last trip to Texas two weeks
- 29:29Speaker 1: ago when they were chasing the Rangers in that same
- 29:33Speaker 1: wildcard mix here in the mediocre American League. But we'll
- 29:37Speaker 1: see you again on Wednesday. Thanks everybody very much for listening.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Hope you enjoyed it. Bye bye,
