0:15
SPEAKER_01: All right, everybody.
0:16
SPEAKER_01: Welcome back for another episode of Be and R at the Movies Podcast.
0:19
SPEAKER_01: I'm Barry.
0:20
SPEAKER_01: And I'm Robin.
0:21
SPEAKER_01: Right.
0:22
SPEAKER_01: So this week it was my choice of film.
0:25
SPEAKER_01: Um, so I decided um quite a while ago that I wanted to show this film to you.
0:30
SPEAKER_01: Completely forgot about it for a while, and then it like resurfaced, and I'm like, oh yes, I gotta do this one.
0:35
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
0:36
SPEAKER_01: So we are gonna be watching the 2022 film The Outfit.
0:42
unknown: Okay.
0:42
SPEAKER_01: Um, so um I found about this on Netflix.
0:47
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
0:47
SPEAKER_01: Um when it when it came out, and I don't know if it ever was theatrically released or if it was just on Netflix.
0:55
SPEAKER_00: 2022, you never know.
0:57
SPEAKER_00: And at that time.
0:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and I feel like nowadays it's almost kind of like you don't even know if films are gonna be in the theater at all, and then you just they're just on like a streaming or you buy them.
1:09
SPEAKER_00: Right, which is fine.
1:10
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, which is which works for everybody, seems to.
1:13
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:14
SPEAKER_01: So this film, um, it's about um a tailor shop.
1:20
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:20
SPEAKER_01: So it t it all takes place in the tailor in the tailor shop, set in the 50s.
1:25
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
1:26
SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't want to give too much away.
1:28
SPEAKER_01: So so that's that's the basic, that's the basic premise of it.
1:31
SPEAKER_01: Um, stars Mark Rylance, I think is how you say it.
1:37
SPEAKER_01: R-Y-L-A-N-C-E.
1:39
SPEAKER_01: He's got a real classic face, you'll recognize him.
1:42
SPEAKER_01: I guarantee, I guarantee you will.
1:43
SPEAKER_01: Um Zoe Duch Duch.
1:48
SPEAKER_01: D-E U T C H.
1:52
SPEAKER_01: Um and then uh Dylan O'Brien.
1:55
SPEAKER_01: Uh he was definitely a face that I that I recognized uh when I watched it the first time.
2:01
SPEAKER_01: Um and then there's a couple there's a couple other characters in it.
2:04
SPEAKER_01: Um really small cast.
2:06
SPEAKER_01: So not a not a big not a big cast very heavy character driven.
2:12
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
2:13
SPEAKER_01: Very heavy character driven.
2:15
SPEAKER_01: Um it is a dramatic movie.
2:19
SPEAKER_01: Dramatic, okay.
2:20
SPEAKER_01: So um, but uh the thing that the the well, I don't even know if I want to say it because I don't want to give too much away.
2:30
SPEAKER_01: Um so I I really, really enjoy um the storytelling of this one and how it's put together, um, and how you how they build suspense and how it goes on.
2:49
SPEAKER_01: Um but uh it's uh written and directed by Graham um gonna Graham Moore.
2:57
SPEAKER_01: Um he also had another writer with him, Jonathan uh McClain, who actually is in the film briefly, uh for a quick scene.
3:07
SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, it's um it's almost it feels like the size of an independent film.
3:13
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
3:14
SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah the the cinematography, the shots, the the way the action moves, the way it moves around, very, very interesting for this one.
3:26
SPEAKER_01: That's why it's like it's very this one almost feels like it would be like for um a film, a film studies class.
3:34
SPEAKER_01: Okay kind of kind of stuff.
3:36
SPEAKER_01: So that's the kind of that's the kind of mode that we're in on this one.
3:39
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
3:40
SPEAKER_01: Um it's um so the well, no, I'm gonna leave that.
3:47
SPEAKER_01: I was gonna give you a little I was gonna I it's like the stuff I want to talk about, but it's like I don't want to give it away.
3:52
SPEAKER_00: But now the first time you saw it was on Netflix?
3:55
SPEAKER_01: First time I saw it was on Netflix.
3:56
SPEAKER_00: Um I it came and did you just kind of randomly choose it or okay?
4:02
SPEAKER_01: Yep, randomly chose it.
4:04
SPEAKER_01: Came up um just on the recommendation ones, and then uh with Netflix, you don't really see a trailer, you see like a little preview of it.
4:12
SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
4:13
SPEAKER_01: And it hooked me right away.
4:15
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
4:15
SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, oh, I'm gonna watch this, and then watched it and I was like, Oh, that was that was so you were not sorry.
4:21
SPEAKER_00: I love it when it works out that way because sometimes I'm like, yeah, that wasn't quite what I thought it was gonna be.
4:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
4:29
SPEAKER_00: Even though they they are trying to let you know this is kind of what it is, right?
4:33
SPEAKER_01: Right.
4:33
SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, yeah, they're I mean not that it's a big deal to waste a little time just watching something, even if I don't finish it.
4:40
SPEAKER_01: It's like Right.
4:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there have been a there have been a couple that have been some duds that I've I've stumbled across where and it's like I I find out the you know the basic premise of it or whatever, and I'm like, oh I'm definitely gonna love this.
4:51
SPEAKER_01: Start watching it, and then it's like I know it's not good, it's not good for me like when it's like not even halfway through and I already got my phone out and I'm already like scrolling through my phone.
5:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
5:01
SPEAKER_00: It's like what am I doing watching this?
5:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but so that that's nice.
5:05
SPEAKER_00: So this was the exception to that.
5:07
SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, good, good.
5:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this one, this one was uh this one was pretty this one was really good.
5:12
SPEAKER_01: Um and then once once we're done, then I'm gonna cue you in on some other stuff that that uh that I know about it.
5:21
SPEAKER_01: And so if I tell you now, it kind of kind of little spoilers.
5:26
SPEAKER_01: Little spoilers.
5:27
SPEAKER_00: Don't want to spoil it for it.
5:28
SPEAKER_01: That's right.
5:28
SPEAKER_00: Afterwards, we'll spoil it for everybody else.
5:30
SPEAKER_01: Well, that's right.
5:31
SPEAKER_01: That's right.
5:32
SPEAKER_01: Because at that point, everybody should have already watched it.
5:34
SPEAKER_01: See, like right up to this point, everybody could listen to this without seeing it, and then they pause it when we pause it, watch the film and then come back and join us.
5:42
SPEAKER_00: So if you and that is the thing too, hopefully people have understood when we do this.
5:46
SPEAKER_00: It's like if you haven't seen it, we are gonna talk about it.
5:51
SPEAKER_00: So if you want spoilers, go ahead.
5:54
SPEAKER_00: But if you don't, then don't do it.
5:56
SPEAKER_00: Right.
5:57
SPEAKER_00: I mean, if that if that's super important to you.
5:59
SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, I'm the one that I found out the end of the sixth sense, and it still did not spoil it for me.
6:07
SPEAKER_00: So well, I was gonna say you know, I I'm just that way.
6:10
SPEAKER_00: I don't I'm uh I'm fine, whatever.
6:12
SPEAKER_01: That was but some people are mmm really That was probably one of the biggest ones that I know of people talking about spoilers and stuff like that, where they were where people were letting that one out.
6:24
SPEAKER_01: And it's one of those where But I didn't mind.
6:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it was still an entertaining movie, right?
6:30
SPEAKER_00: It's still and there was a lot of ups and downs and going arounds in that one.
6:35
SPEAKER_01: And that's one that once you find out the twist, yeah, then you go back and rewatch it with fresh eyes, and then you're seeing everything else that you so yeah.
6:44
SPEAKER_00: I I still enjoy that movie.
6:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah.
6:46
SPEAKER_00: So but anyway, so so and this one, um so obviously when you watched it, it wasn't like one and done.
6:53
SPEAKER_01: You've you've watched it again or I I've watched it, uh I watched it several times on Netflix, and then I uh found out that it was released on DVD and purchased the DVD.
7:04
SPEAKER_01: Um, so I I have that, so I have the DVD as well.
7:07
SPEAKER_01: Um and it's it it's amazing because I I didn't watch it.
7:13
SPEAKER_01: I I watched it the first couple times and then I didn't watch it for a little while, and then I re-watched it and I was like, man, I forgot how good this one is.
7:20
SPEAKER_01: It's like and it dives you dives you.
7:22
SPEAKER_00: So it lasts, it's it's a good one.
7:24
SPEAKER_00: Okay, all right, all right.
7:25
SPEAKER_00: Well, we'll see what happens.
7:26
SPEAKER_00: We'll see how I feel about it.
7:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you'll yeah, you'll be the you'll be the good judge on this one.
7:31
SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
7:33
SPEAKER_01: All right, well, we're gonna go ahead and watch the outfit, and then we will come back a little bit and talk about it.
7:37
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
7:37
SPEAKER_01: All right, we will be back in a little while.
7:46
SPEAKER_01: All right, everybody, welcome back.
7:48
SPEAKER_01: We just got done watching the outfit.
7:51
SPEAKER_01: And since this was your first time watching it, I'll let you go ahead and take us away on this one.
7:58
SPEAKER_00: Um I kind of liked it.
8:02
SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.
8:03
SPEAKER_00: Um I'll take a kind of there there's a lot of dialogue.
8:07
SPEAKER_00: Um and you know, and it was more like a play.
8:12
SPEAKER_01: Yep.
8:12
SPEAKER_00: Because it takes place in one specific place and people come in and out.
8:18
SPEAKER_01: Um well that was gonna be my comment that I was gonna make ahead of time.
8:21
SPEAKER_01: Oh, was that it feels like it's a play.
8:24
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's not.
8:26
unknown: No.
8:26
SPEAKER_01: So it what's it's not based on a play or anything.
8:29
SPEAKER_01: But it made it.
8:29
SPEAKER_00: But it has that easily could it could be play.
8:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
8:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because just the one set.
8:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
8:36
SPEAKER_00: But uh, and you know, it's all like you said, character driven and that sort of thing.
8:40
SPEAKER_00: Which is kind of you know, trying to figure out what's going on, you know, kind of thing.
8:46
SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it was it it was good.
8:52
SPEAKER_01: You seem like we like holding back on that good.
8:56
SPEAKER_00: I guess maybe I just need to, I don't know, talk about it or just think about it or something like that.
9:01
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, um yeah, it was it it at times I was thinking, oh, it's it's really slow, but it's really not.
9:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
9:13
SPEAKER_00: Because they're talking and what they're saying is really important.
9:17
SPEAKER_01: Right.
9:18
SPEAKER_00: So you really have to pay attention to all of the dialogue.
9:24
SPEAKER_00: Don't don't don't drift away on this.
9:26
SPEAKER_01: There there's definitely a lot of dialogue in this one.
9:30
SPEAKER_00: But uh it was um yeah, it's it's a very unusual story.
9:36
SPEAKER_00: Um that's for sure.
9:38
SPEAKER_00: I mean, really, I'm I don't think I've ever seen any story quite like this.
9:43
SPEAKER_01: And I think that's part of my draw to it is that because of its uniqueness, uh-huh.
9:48
SPEAKER_01: Um, because you know, there's times when we we see that some things are like a formula and they're just kind of just rehashed and redone.
9:56
SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh, I think I know what's coming next kind of thing, but but this one, um no, the you do not see what's coming next in any of it.
10:05
SPEAKER_00: Right.
10:06
SPEAKER_00: And you do get the idea that the cutter, he's not a tailor, that's right.
10:16
SPEAKER_00: Is pulling all the strings.
10:19
SPEAKER_01: Puns intended.
10:20
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
10:22
SPEAKER_00: But you know, but but uh the idea that he is playing it as if he doesn't really know what's gonna happen next or what is you know the kind of web he is weaving out of this.
10:38
SPEAKER_00: Right.
10:39
SPEAKER_00: Um, so it's it's kind of interesting.
10:42
SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh wait, now he's saying that.
10:45
SPEAKER_00: Does he mean that?
10:47
SPEAKER_00: Or is he just kind of saying it?
10:50
SPEAKER_00: Right.
10:50
SPEAKER_00: Like when he told the one guy that he was the rat.
10:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
10:55
SPEAKER_00: And and when he he tells someone something about somebody what they said, it's almost the truth.
11:06
SPEAKER_01: But not it's like all half truths.
11:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:10
SPEAKER_00: And it's like, and why is he doing that?
11:15
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I mean, he really does come off as the the mastermind.
11:20
SPEAKER_01: Right.
11:21
SPEAKER_01: Which and then at the at the end you find out he is.
11:25
SPEAKER_01: Right.
11:25
SPEAKER_01: And I mean that he was winning the whole thing.
11:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
11:28
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
11:29
SPEAKER_00: And uh okay, the only thing I really didn't like is that when that Francis all of a sudden stands up.
11:40
SPEAKER_00: Couldn't could have done without that.
11:42
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the the but but then you don't have the last final twist.
11:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
11:47
SPEAKER_01: Of of the, you know, that he but he's doing so much voiceover anyway.
11:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
11:55
SPEAKER_00: I think when he sets the fire, he could still do a voiceover, and I think I would under he do he wouldn't have to say the his lines to a specific person.
12:07
SPEAKER_01: Okay, I get I see what you're saying.
12:09
SPEAKER_00: You know, um but um that's a choice, I know.
12:14
SPEAKER_00: Choice choice.
12:15
SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I mean I don't know.
12:20
SPEAKER_01: That that part just like what because it's the last it's towards the very, very end.
12:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, kind of then I thought, oh, is he gonna die?
12:29
SPEAKER_01: Right.
12:30
SPEAKER_00: Even though he's like done all this stuff.
12:34
SPEAKER_00: But um yeah, it's it's it's it is it is a very interesting story.
12:41
SPEAKER_00: It really is.
12:42
SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if I'd watch it too many more times.
12:45
SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.
12:46
SPEAKER_01: It might be a one and done for you.
12:47
SPEAKER_00: A little bit, you know, but it is like very intelligently written.
12:54
SPEAKER_01: And that's that's a very excellent way of saying it, too, where it's just like, you know, it's the the way that everything is pieced together, of course, pun intended, um, that it uh um you know, it because so that's the the take on the the term the outfit.
13:15
SPEAKER_01: So the the title of the film is the outfit, right?
13:19
SPEAKER_01: Which you find out there's this uh organization um that's called the outfit.
13:25
SPEAKER_01: Right.
13:25
SPEAKER_01: But he's also a cutter that makes clothes that puts together to create an outfit, and then you find out that he's putting all the pieces together of all this stuff, and so he's making he's putting together an outfit of you know of the elements and stuff that's going around him.
13:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
13:45
SPEAKER_01: So it's very so it's like the layers on the layers, yeah.
13:48
SPEAKER_00: So it's it's a very intelligently written um script.
13:54
SPEAKER_00: And um, and what do you said it was written and directed by the same person?
13:59
SPEAKER_01: Written and directed by the same guy, yeah.
14:01
SPEAKER_01: Um, and then so there's actually a co-writer.
14:04
SPEAKER_01: Um, and so the co-writer, not the not the guy who was the director.
14:11
SPEAKER_01: Um, so the co-writer is actually in the film for a second.
14:15
SPEAKER_01: He's the FBI guy.
14:17
SPEAKER_01: So he's the guy who just goes back and then changes out the tape.
14:20
SPEAKER_01: He's there for like three seconds.
14:22
SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow, yeah.
14:23
SPEAKER_01: Has no speaking no no speaking lines or anything.
14:26
SPEAKER_01: He's just totally back.
14:28
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that that's that's a little fun fact that it's like, yeah, so he's he's the co-writer that comes in and that comes in and does that.
14:35
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, yeah, written and directed by this by the same guy.
14:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:39
SPEAKER_00: So I I I kind of like that because this is such a specific story.
14:43
SPEAKER_01: Right.
14:44
SPEAKER_00: Um, it's nice that you know he did write it and he did direct it, so he he made it what he wanted to make, how he wanted to make it.
14:53
SPEAKER_00: Right.
14:53
SPEAKER_00: I was I'm kind of curious.
14:56
SPEAKER_00: I would be really interesting to hear from the actors.
15:01
SPEAKER_00: You know, because I mean there's a lot of dialogue.
15:06
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm I'm sure there's more than that for a lot of people.
15:09
SPEAKER_00: I mean, actors can do so much with that.
15:11
SPEAKER_00: But of course, but it's just like, yeah, I'm wondering how they they felt about the dialogue and performing it.
15:20
SPEAKER_00: Um and it's very it's kind of a very intimate kind of story.
15:24
SPEAKER_00: There's only it's always like it's only a few years.
15:28
SPEAKER_00: Two people, few people in the room talk, you know.
15:31
SPEAKER_00: And um yeah.
15:34
SPEAKER_01: I think at the most, I think there was like four or five at maybe yeah, at the most.
15:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, when yeah.
15:39
SPEAKER_00: So it's it's always it's very intimate in a lot of um, yeah.
15:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, but yeah.
15:45
SPEAKER_00: So it was very it was and it and I did like the look of it very much.
15:51
SPEAKER_00: I thought that was, I mean, obviously, well, when they make a movie, every every detail is yeah, right, important, right, you know.
16:00
SPEAKER_01: But you know, it's it's funny because you know, we're it's the 50s, and in my mind, it's like, okay, you know, 50s is not that that far back, you know, and then but then I start putting the numbers together and I'm like, so this was taking place in 56, so that would make it 70 years ago that they were taught, you know, that they set this film, and it's like it's like, oh yeah, I guess it guess it is a little ways back.
16:26
SPEAKER_01: Little ways back.
16:27
SPEAKER_01: A little ways back.
16:28
SPEAKER_01: Um, but then there's and there's little clues and stuff to to tie you into the time period.
16:33
SPEAKER_01: Not a ton.
16:34
SPEAKER_01: No, just it doesn't need a ton.
16:36
SPEAKER_01: Because it doesn't need a ton.
16:37
SPEAKER_01: And and with you know what he's doing is you know, making making suits is such an old uh old-fashioned way of making them that you know it's you you could almost set it in almost any any time period for what he's doing.
16:54
SPEAKER_01: Right.
16:54
SPEAKER_01: And it's just the little bits around, you know, it's the the phone is a rotary telephone, you know, the fact they have the phone in the shop, you know, that kind of ties it to the 50s during that during that period and stuff.
17:08
SPEAKER_01: And it's yeah, you know, he to he talks about, you know, he's like, Oh, I was in the war.
17:13
SPEAKER_01: And he goes, weren't you aren't you a little young or weren't or weren't aren't you a little old to be in the war?
17:18
SPEAKER_01: And he's talking about World War II, and he goes, the other war.
17:21
SPEAKER_01: And it's like, oh yeah, it's like I guess it's like at the time, it's like because you know, it's like I always think of like, you know, people say, I was in the, you know, if they say I was in the war, you know, they would think like, oh, you're talking World War II, you know.
17:33
SPEAKER_01: So it's like, oh I thought that was kind of cute.
17:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:36
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there uh I I like that the I like that the dial, like you said, the dialogue is so specific.
17:41
SPEAKER_01: And that's what means like it kind of has that kind of that play.
17:45
SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't wouldn't be surprised if not, you know, this is not based on a play, but I wouldn't be surprised if the the writer actually has written a play.
17:52
SPEAKER_01: Right.
17:52
SPEAKER_00: Because it's like definitely has the tools for it, yeah.
17:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
17:56
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:57
SPEAKER_01: And like the way that you know you can you build the tension with just just the dialogue and just the just a few people in the room and stuff like that.
18:04
SPEAKER_01: And and like you said, it's a it's all close quarters, it's all you know, it's all very intimate in that in that setting.
18:12
SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, yeah, I always think like, I was like, yeah, I got a feeling like you know, he could he definitely has the skills to do a play, but right, right.
18:20
SPEAKER_01: But I I mean I I like it.
18:24
SPEAKER_01: I like that, you know, there's there's unique twists to it.
18:26
SPEAKER_00: I like that the you know, it's a and you don't really quite know what how it's gonna all come out until the very, very end.
18:35
SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
18:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and even and maybe that was good to put that extra piece in there because it felt like, oh, we're wrapping it up.
18:42
SPEAKER_00: And it's like, no, we're not.
18:45
SPEAKER_01: Not quite.
18:46
SPEAKER_01: Like one more together.
18:47
SPEAKER_00: One more little piece.
18:48
SPEAKER_00: And you do really don't know what's gonna happen.
18:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
18:51
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it was um it was it was it was very interesting, it really was.
18:57
SPEAKER_00: And and as far as like uh film study kind of film, yeah, yeah.
19:04
SPEAKER_00: I can totally see that.
19:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, like to have a class just have a lot of discussion about all the elements here the writing, the cinematography, the direction, you know, that you know, the and you know, and then and I I have to say though that uh uh all the actors I did not recognize anyone.
19:27
SPEAKER_01: Oh, any of them?
19:29
SPEAKER_00: Any of them.
19:29
SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
19:30
SPEAKER_01: Oh okay.
19:31
SPEAKER_01: Which which is also could be you know is also kind of a good thing because I think it's a good idea.
19:34
SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah, that just kind of that didn't pull me out of the story at all because then didn't recognize any of them.
19:39
SPEAKER_00: Right.
19:40
SPEAKER_00: But I do think they all did a very good job as far as their characters and being I don't know, is it it was it was all very well acted.
19:54
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think the acting was really good because it just seemed all very believable.
20:00
SPEAKER_01: Yep.
20:01
SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah.
20:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it just it and that's the thing when they're with these type of characters that they're playing, I mean they're very specific to who they are as a character, but they're they're not really over-the-top characters.
20:16
SPEAKER_01: It's more of just like these are just these people.
20:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah and it's like this is just this is just the story, and you know, and it's it there's nobody, there's no super flashy, no, you know, way over the top characters where you're just like, oh, you know, they're pulling too much attention.
20:32
SPEAKER_01: Everybody seems to have like their their role and they all kind of fit into their into their role quite nicely.
20:38
SPEAKER_00: I guess the one little piece that I just thought it was like that's odd.
20:44
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
20:45
SPEAKER_00: So when the guy comes in and he's been shot, yes, and they take off his coat, and the way he hangs up his coat.
20:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
20:55
SPEAKER_01: I was watching that going, this guy is bleeding.
20:58
SPEAKER_00: What are you what what are you doing?
21:01
SPEAKER_00: You're putting it on a hanger and you're like displaying it.
21:05
SPEAKER_01: It's it's one of those where it's like, yeah, I the way I think of it is that everything is happening really quickly at that moment.
21:13
SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, the guy's coming in, he's been shot, he's gotta figure out what's going on.
21:17
SPEAKER_01: He just got literally knocked in the head with the other guy's pist with the other guy's gun.
21:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
21:23
SPEAKER_01: And he takes the coat and he goes into like autopilot of like this is this is a coat.
21:30
SPEAKER_01: Coat goes on the hanger.
21:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because when they he came in, he just hangs his coat on a hook.
21:37
SPEAKER_01: Right.
21:38
SPEAKER_01: But it's a but but this is his custom this is a customer.
21:41
SPEAKER_01: Uh huh.
21:42
SPEAKER_01: You know, so it's like Yeah, it was just like an odd gesture.
21:47
SPEAKER_00: And then that specific coat did come into play in the whole story.
21:51
SPEAKER_00: Right.
21:52
SPEAKER_00: Um Right comes back in the because it was so prominent.
21:55
SPEAKER_00: If it had if it just had been hung on the hook, may not have been Not have been noticed.
22:01
SPEAKER_01: Right.
22:01
SPEAKER_01: Which is the key, you know, which is one of those where it's like, okay, now at the time, yeah, I think that maybe he was going autopilot and just did it and didn't think, you know, didn't really really think what he was doing.
22:14
SPEAKER_01: But knowing the whole story and knowing how he was manipulating everybody kind of putting the pieces together.
22:20
SPEAKER_00: Everything he did was for a purpose.
22:22
SPEAKER_01: And that's the thing.
22:23
SPEAKER_01: It's like, it's like, did he intentionally take the coat and have it there prominently?
22:28
SPEAKER_01: You know, that way, you know, it was a sign that his that Richie was there.
22:33
SPEAKER_01: You know, and it's like it which could which could be because that's what we're saying, like he is he is so in control of the whole situation.
22:40
SPEAKER_00: It's just kind of amazing.
22:42
SPEAKER_01: And yeah, that's why I was saying it's one that I like to I like to dissect a little bit and kind of go back and like pick up the nuances.
22:50
SPEAKER_00: It is it is definitely one uh this is a discussion movie.
22:53
SPEAKER_01: This is definitely a discussion movie.
22:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you watch it and you're gonna go, oh god, I we gotta talk about this with somebody, you know.
22:59
SPEAKER_01: Well, I even like like the build-up uh leading up to the big event when they come in through the door and then you know it the whole story really kicks off um yeah of him just like um making making the suit and then he's using like using the iron and like and you know just the just the elements of like what he's doing.
23:19
SPEAKER_01: And I was thinking, um, so uh it turns out that the writer director guy um um I guess he has a history of making uh of making suits.
23:33
SPEAKER_01: Like like it's actually like his background.
23:36
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
23:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's kind of interesting too.
23:40
SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey guys, I was I I pulled it up before, so this is off of off of the IMDB trivias on this one.
23:46
SPEAKER_01: Uh Mark Rollins was trained as a tailor techniques by the famous Huntsman Taylors on on Seville Road, which is the row in in in London that he's talking about.
24:00
SPEAKER_00: Right.
24:00
SPEAKER_01: Um it's um that is also seen in the Kingsman series, which is so that's that's the connection.
24:10
SPEAKER_01: But so he actually like when he wrote it, he's not just writing like oh he's making a suit.
24:16
SPEAKER_01: He's like, No, these are the steps that you're gonna that you go through when you're putting when you're putting the suit together.
24:23
SPEAKER_01: This is how it's uh this is how it's done.
24:26
SPEAKER_00: Is it you know, it's almost like if a chef made a movie about cooking.
24:33
SPEAKER_01: You know, exactly.
24:34
SPEAKER_00: And that's and there is something about you you take the pieces to put it together to m make the final product.
24:43
SPEAKER_01: Right.
24:43
SPEAKER_01: And you have that you have that background, you have that knowledge of like, you know, this is the proper way to do it, this is the proper whole technique, this is you know, the the how you actually wouldn't manipulate something.
24:55
SPEAKER_01: And that's why when when you're watching him like do the suit and like make it at the beginning and he's doing all the pieces together, yeah, is because he legitimately knows like so all that you know is very on point.
25:07
SPEAKER_01: Is exactly how is exactly how you do it.
25:09
SPEAKER_00: And it did feel like it.
25:10
SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I thought, well, you know, maybe they just had a really good person that came in and said, no, this is exactly how you do it.
25:18
SPEAKER_00: But obviously he he knew what he was uh which kind of is helpful because then he knew how to shoot it, how to film it.
25:27
SPEAKER_01: He knows the beats and he knows like what's going for.
25:30
SPEAKER_01: And I and I like that it's uh I find a lot of times when you have somebody who does a craft or does a skill or something like this, um, referencing back to when we were talking about a chef, where a lot of times like they'll do tight cuts on their hands that it's actually not the actor, it's a professional.
25:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because there's there's such a precise motion that needs to happen.
25:53
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I I I was looking at that too.
25:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and this there's not, I mean, you even see like he does the cuts and you can actually see his face like as he's actually going through and doing the cuts.
26:03
SPEAKER_01: So I actually believe they actually, you know, went through with him and like talked to him about like, you know, these are the steps you have to do and this is what you have to do.
26:11
SPEAKER_01: Now I feel not not to downplay anybody who is a cutter or actually does this for a living, but I feel like you could get away with having it having an actor go through like a period of time of of learning how to do this, and it it's not it's not really gonna take a whole lot of time.
26:35
SPEAKER_01: It would take some time, but not not an extreme amount of time, and you would be able to have somebody be able to do it passable enough to be able to do the film.
26:42
SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
26:42
SPEAKER_01: There are other stuff that we know of that you can't really uh you can't really go like in a very quick um quick uh process to be able to.
26:53
SPEAKER_01: Uh we talk about miracle all the time.
26:56
SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's hockey players.
26:58
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
26:58
SPEAKER_01: And he's like, you know, they said in that film, it's like, oh, are we gonna teach actors how to skate?
27:05
SPEAKER_01: Are we gonna teach hockey players how to act?
27:07
SPEAKER_01: You know, because and they decided to pick hockey players that could act and then yeah, so then they didn't have to fake the skating.
27:14
SPEAKER_01: Right, so they have to vake fake the skating.
27:15
SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
27:16
SPEAKER_01: So that's why I was saying it's like I feel like you know, and then um, but it it all just kind of depends on the trade and what the craft is that they're that they're good at and what they're trying to do.
27:26
SPEAKER_01: But I I really love the the actual physical elements of it, and I really like the the tactile of him actually assembling and you could feel it.
27:35
SPEAKER_00: It's it's it I've never it it's amazing this movie really did make me feel a lot.
27:42
SPEAKER_00: You know, I could feel the fabric, I could feel the scissors, I could, you know, and then let alone the emotions um when things were happening with the characters, that sort of thing.
27:53
SPEAKER_01: Right.
27:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
27:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you d it's uh and that sound of the cutting that they use throughout the film, even when you know, it's as like a like a replying in his head, or just uh it's a very, very distinct sound of like as it was going through, and it's like you can feel that like each time the that the cuts went through.
28:12
SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
28:15
SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know.
28:16
SPEAKER_01: Have I pushed it more towards uh you liked it a little bit more now?
28:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean you kind of have to talk about this one a little.
28:22
SPEAKER_00: I did anyway.
28:22
SPEAKER_00: I need to talk about it.
28:24
SPEAKER_00: Uh I appreciate it, that's for sure.
28:26
SPEAKER_00: Um, and the quality is top notch.
28:29
SPEAKER_00: I mean, as far as a film.
28:31
SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
28:31
SPEAKER_01: I love the set.
28:32
SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
28:33
SPEAKER_01: I I kind of wanted to live in that.
28:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's kind of it makes you kind of sad when it burns at the end where we're just like, oh, do we have to?
28:43
SPEAKER_01: It's like it's like um, it's and it's one of those like it just has that just kind of warm, inviting kind of kind of vibe to it, you know, which I think makes a good a good shop for that.
28:57
SPEAKER_01: Where it's like, yeah, that's exactly the vibe you want to go for.
29:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
29:01
SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh, but it's so funny, like when you think about the whole set, where it's like you have the front door and the receptionist area, then you have like the main room where they have the big chairs and they have everything out in display, and then you've got the bathroom and the workroom.
29:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:20
SPEAKER_01: And that's it.
29:21
SPEAKER_01: That's all.
29:21
SPEAKER_01: That's the whole that's the whole film.
29:23
SPEAKER_01: That's the whole set.
29:24
SPEAKER_01: That's everything that's there.
29:25
SPEAKER_00: It's just the characters moving in and out of these different rooms.
29:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
29:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:29
SPEAKER_01: And it's and it's almost and like we were saying, it's almost like, okay, we have the, you know, these beats, this action, like, okay, what are the shots?
29:38
SPEAKER_01: How are we gonna get it?
29:39
SPEAKER_01: How can we manipulate what we've got, you know, for the sets to be able to do it?
29:43
SPEAKER_01: You know, the guy comes bursting through the door, and it's like, okay, we're gonna go for a lower angle coming in, you know, and get like, you know, get the get that shot coming in like that.
29:53
SPEAKER_01: So it's uh that's why I that's why I kind of like it, because it's almost like a it it's almost like a project of like, okay, you know, this is what we got.
30:01
SPEAKER_01: How are we gonna do this?
30:02
SPEAKER_01: How are we gonna how are we gonna manipulate?
30:04
SPEAKER_01: And you know, I got a feeling that that was you know, the talks with between the director and the cinematographers, like, okay, you know, we're looking for this kind of vibe or going for this.
30:12
SPEAKER_00: Well, because and because the the spaces were so small, you literally did see the whole room eventually, you know, because I know filming it, they'd have to take some away and bring it back, and you know, then they shoot it, and then there's something from the other side, so you see that wall.
30:27
SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, no, I thought it was really well put together.
30:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
30:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it I I that's what I was saying.
30:35
SPEAKER_01: I I enjoy it.
30:37
SPEAKER_01: I I like it like I said, uh as kind of like a a film studies kind of kind of look at it, and then just kind of you know for it's a unique take on a film.
30:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I guess if if anybody hasn't seen it and is gonna uh you you better, you know pay attention to the entire every word and every motion and everything.
31:00
SPEAKER_00: No drifting away.
31:01
SPEAKER_00: If you feel like you can't pay attention, don't watching.
31:04
SPEAKER_01: Not not one to watch when you when you're kind of dozing off.
31:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
31:07
SPEAKER_01: Because then you'll wake up and then you might you might be a little lost.
31:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you'll you will be completely lost.
31:13
SPEAKER_00: You really do have to pay attention to every little moment if you really want to, you know, understand the entire story.
31:20
SPEAKER_01: That's it.
31:20
SPEAKER_01: That's it, yeah.
31:22
SPEAKER_01: All right, I guess we'll go ahead and wrap this one up.
31:24
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
31:24
SPEAKER_01: All right.
31:25
SPEAKER_01: Thank you everybody for listening.
31:26
SPEAKER_01: Uh, make sure you guys go check out the outfit.
31:29
SPEAKER_01: And until next time, I'm Barry.
31:30
SPEAKER_00: And I'm Robin.
31:32
SPEAKER_01: And we will talk to you guys later.
