- 0:10Speaker 1: God bless football, Mikey A, God bless football?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Taylor, Okay, god bless football?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Is he?
- 0:19Speaker 3: God bless football?
- 0:20Speaker 4: Stu?
- 0:20Speaker 5: Guess?
- 0:20Speaker 1: I mean it's draft week, guys. Can we pick up
- 0:22Speaker 1: the energy? Jesus Chnice?
- 0:25Speaker 5: What is happening here? I mean, my god?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Is he barely accepted that from Taylor and Taylor barely
- 0:31Speaker 1: passed it along to is he?
- 0:32Speaker 5: What is happening? I thought I did that?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Well, I'm sorry.
- 0:35Speaker 2: This is my super Bowl.
- 0:38Speaker 5: It's our super Bowl? Yes, every year, right, super Bowl?
- 0:41Speaker 6: So yeah, this is massive for you guys. For me,
- 0:44Speaker 6: I would rather be saying, like, God bless the Knicks
- 0:47Speaker 6: basketball right now?
- 0:48Speaker 1: All right, well they're up one game to nothing. They'll
- 0:50Speaker 1: have game two tonight. But this is not god bless basketball.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Is he should be starting that show? This is God
- 0:55Speaker 1: blessed football. And Matt Miller is going to join us.
- 0:58Speaker 1: He's an ESPN, NFL have analysts. I'm looking forward to
- 1:01Speaker 1: speaking to him about me and Mikey super Bowl. But
- 1:04Speaker 1: before we get to that, keep three cup five, Mikey
- 1:07Speaker 1: A has a keep three cup five for us?
- 1:09Speaker 5: Is he?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Let's do it?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yes, let's do it. Past and present running back duos
- 1:15Speaker 2: Oh Wow.
- 1:16Speaker 5: I like this. Wow.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Okay, first group up?
- 1:21Speaker 5: Mm hmm.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Derrick Henry and Jamal Lewis.
- 1:26Speaker 3: So these pairings have played together in the past.
- 1:31Speaker 2: No, they together, but they have played on the same team.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Same organization.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Jamal Lewis right, and uh and Derrick Henry. Oh, that's
- 1:40Speaker 1: certainly a good two right there.
- 1:43Speaker 5: I know.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I think he's playing into the don't keep the first rule, right,
- 1:49Speaker 3: don't ever keep the first one, and this one's pretty
- 1:51Speaker 3: tough not to keep it?
- 1:53Speaker 5: Is we have to agree on this? Is that the deal?
- 1:56Speaker 2: This is the three consensus between the three.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there's so many great tandems. You know,
- 2:02Speaker 1: he's gonna give us dor Set and them. It's Smith
- 2:04Speaker 1: probably He's going to give us some really good tandems.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You're sure you want to keep Jamal Lewis and Derrick Henry.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Because it met you know what I'm thinking against it now?
- 2:12Speaker 3: Does it matter to you that it's like the current
- 2:14Speaker 3: Derrick Henry right, not like the you know, Tennessee Titans
- 2:17Speaker 3: Derrick Henry.
- 2:19Speaker 5: It's still a.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Really good Derrick Henry. But I'm not keeping it. I Mean,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I could be outvoted here, but I'm not keeping it.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Taylor has to say too though.
- 2:26Speaker 6: So I'm gonna cut this, but you guys have to
- 2:29Speaker 6: remember it's not tandem running back.
- 2:32Speaker 5: We got it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got a pass
- 2:34Speaker 5: running yes.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yes, okay, so we get that right, Okay, that's important
- 2:37Speaker 1: because I just said Dorset and them it's Smith right, Okay.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 6: So the way you have to be thinking of it
- 2:42Speaker 6: is like I understand Westbrook, Yes, right, I have to
- 2:46Speaker 6: think about who the current Cowboys running back is?
- 2:49Speaker 5: Who is the current Cowboys running back?
- 2:52Speaker 3: He's thinking too far, Williams?
- 2:54Speaker 5: Is he? I don't know. I was asking, I don't know.
- 2:57Speaker 5: You answered my question with a question. Here's the trick.
- 3:00Speaker 3: There's gonna be three better current day running backs than
- 3:03Speaker 3: Derrick Henry.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Right, I don't know? Is I don't know?
- 3:07Speaker 2: That's that I love when you guys try and figure
- 3:09Speaker 2: out what I'm.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I I vote cut, all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 3:13Speaker 1: vote cut as well.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Cut.
- 3:16Speaker 2: We're cut next, next tandem up? Yes, Christian McCaffrey and
- 3:21Speaker 2: Frank Gore.
- 3:24Speaker 5: McCaffrey and not Roger Craig. You went Frank Gore er.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I didn't say it was the best all time. It's
- 3:31Speaker 2: just tandems.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Right, McCaffrey often injured. Frank Gore, he was great, but
- 3:37Speaker 1: he was great three yards at a time, man, compiler,
- 3:41Speaker 1: Frank Gore, I said it.
- 3:46Speaker 5: I'm not keeping him. I'm cutting those two.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Wow, Frank Gore with San Francisco that was the better
- 3:52Speaker 3: half of his career. Still, Man, Christian McCaffrey.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Well, that's the best current running back in the NFL.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So I want to hear Taylor's vote first.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah, well he's He's gonna really because I want to
- 4:04Speaker 1: be the tie breaker.
- 4:04Speaker 5: All right, there's a time.
- 4:06Speaker 6: Yeah, you are going to be the tie breaker because
- 4:08Speaker 6: this is an easy keep for me. Man, caffrige is
- 4:10Speaker 6: the best running back in the NFL, right.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Yeah, he is. I think we keep him, all right.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I think it was a good tenure in San Francisco
- 4:17Speaker 3: with Frank Gore.
- 4:18Speaker 5: All right, we'll keep him in six Pro Bowl al right.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Next one, Mikey.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Peak behind Peak, behind the curtain. This was one of
- 4:23Speaker 2: my favorite to put together. Next hand him up.
- 4:26Speaker 5: It's already driving me crazy. So that's a sign that
- 4:28Speaker 5: I know.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yes, go ahead, Curtis Martin and Breise Hall.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Wow.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Wow, man, it started off kid, by the way, by
- 4:40Speaker 1: the way, I mean, you gave me stink face on
- 4:42Speaker 1: that tailor.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Don't think I didn't see that you gave me stink face.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I mean, Breecee is what a top five, top ten
- 4:47Speaker 1: running back in the NFL. Who'd you pair him with?
- 4:50Speaker 3: Curtis?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Curtis is my favorite, Martin.
- 4:53Speaker 5: I will vote first here and say cut h Taylor.
- 4:58Speaker 6: I'm gonna vote keep just so stud could become the
- 5:00Speaker 6: deciding vote.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I was gonna say, because you gave me stink face.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I don't.
- 5:05Speaker 6: I don't think Breisee Hall is a top five.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Running in the NFL.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Alright, we're cutting him just simply because they're chets. I
- 5:12Speaker 5: mean that's.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Why that's I mean, I understand right next tandem up
- 5:17Speaker 2: looking at you is he Von ah Chan and Ricky Williams.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Oh Man, that's a keeper for me. Yes, that's an
- 5:25Speaker 3: easy keeper for me.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yes, I mean, Devon h Chan is certainly a top
- 5:28Speaker 1: five running back in the NFL. Ricky Williams was until
- 5:31Speaker 1: they ran him into the ground. That was Dave Wantstadt's fault.
- 5:34Speaker 1: He gave him seven hundred and seventeen carries in one season.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Look it up.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I think you could argue I mean not even argued Stucatts,
- 5:41Speaker 3: just said it. Ricky Williams when he was in the
- 5:43Speaker 3: game was probably the best running back for a couple
- 5:46Speaker 3: of years at the very least, if not the running
- 5:48Speaker 3: back that you had to work the most to defend
- 5:50Speaker 3: because he was getting the ball so much. And right
- 5:52Speaker 3: now this season, Devon ah Chan might have the best
- 5:54Speaker 3: numbers of any running back.
- 5:55Speaker 5: A chance top five currently.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Ricky, to your point, you're right, was top three when
- 5:59Speaker 1: he played with Dolphins, at least top three, maybe the
- 6:01Speaker 1: best running back in the NFL.
- 6:03Speaker 5: So I'm keeping this.
- 6:05Speaker 6: So it doesn't matter my vote. I also would have
- 6:07Speaker 6: voted to keep. But Stu, how many top five running
- 6:09Speaker 6: back to you, Kurt?
- 6:09Speaker 2: He has thirty two top five.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Running I mean twenty six, that's all. I mean, none
- 6:13Speaker 1: of them on the Jets. Well, I put Bress all there,
- 6:15Speaker 1: so I don't know why I did. I shouldn't have
- 6:17Speaker 1: done that.
- 6:17Speaker 3: You can only keep one more out of the next
- 6:19Speaker 3: what four?
- 6:19Speaker 5: I know Jesus than you. I hate this guy.
- 6:22Speaker 2: You've kept McCaffrey and Gore, You've kept Ricky Williams and
- 6:25Speaker 2: Devon A.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Chan.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You've cut Curtis Martin and Breese Hall. You've cut Derrek
- 6:28Speaker 2: Henry and Jamal Lewis. Next tandam up, Walter Payton and
- 6:32Speaker 2: DeAndre Swift.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Oh that's a cut. I don't want swift. I mean
- 6:35Speaker 1: I want sweetness.
- 6:36Speaker 5: I just don't want swift, you know, sweetness and swiftness. Yeah,
- 6:42Speaker 5: sweet swift.
- 6:44Speaker 2: A couple of cut it up?
- 6:46Speaker 5: How proud he is a couple of what cutting it up?
- 6:48Speaker 5: I mean swift, swift, couple of sweat cutting it up? Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 5: I'm cutting. I mean easy cut, easy cut?
- 6:57Speaker 2: All right, got easy cut, cut, cut cut, Okay. Next
- 7:00Speaker 2: tandom up, Bucky Irving and Mike Alstott.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Oh, all Start on the cover of Maddens one year.
- 7:09Speaker 3: He was Peyton Hillis.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Oh yeah, Peyton.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Actually no, he might have been right, I might have
- 7:15Speaker 3: been both.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I look up all Stott and by the way, put
- 7:17Speaker 1: it on the poll all Start and Hillis same guy.
- 7:20Speaker 6: I'm almost ninety nine percent sure Mike Alstott was never
- 7:23Speaker 6: on the cover of a Madden.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, let's be sure and look it up. How about
- 7:26Speaker 1: that he didn't?
- 7:30Speaker 3: He did not?
- 7:31Speaker 5: So it was Hillis.
- 7:32Speaker 3: No, definitely, I knew it was Hillis, but then you
- 7:34Speaker 3: got me with maybe he was also because you know
- 7:36Speaker 3: another white running.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Back hillis Tomato.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Tomato, who's on the cover of something.
- 7:42Speaker 6: As we cannot keep Bucky Irby.
- 7:46Speaker 5: No, of course, we can't keep all starts. No, all right,
- 7:50Speaker 5: we're gotting next.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Next tandom up Marshall Falk and Kyn Williams.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Oh wow. Fuck.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It was running back in the NFL for many years.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Kyron william is a tough five running back in the NFL.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Now it's either this one or the next one, right.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, you're you're making your decision here.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Can you just tell me the team for the next one?
- 8:10Speaker 1: Is that possible? I can't do that?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Do that?
- 8:14Speaker 1: So it's Marshall. Fuck Kyron Williams. I'm gonna have a
- 8:19Speaker 1: hard time not keeping Marshall.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Fuck man.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I want to throw the dice. I want to cut
- 8:23Speaker 3: this and save it for last and see what Mikey.
- 8:26Speaker 3: See what game Mikey's playing.
- 8:28Speaker 1: While I will pass along to Taylor what he gave
- 8:30Speaker 1: to me earlier. Taylor, I'm keeping it your decision here.
- 8:35Speaker 6: I'm gonna cut and just pray we get Westbrook and Barkley.
- 8:39Speaker 2: You are not getting Wesk and Barkley. I can promise
- 8:42Speaker 2: you that Taylor give me the two.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Shitty running as we're about to get go ahead.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So you kept McCaffrey and Gore, You kept Ricky Williams
- 8:49Speaker 2: and Hn. You cut Dereck Henry and Jamal Lewis. You
- 8:52Speaker 2: cut Curtis Martin and Breist Hall. You cut Walter Payton
- 8:55Speaker 2: and DeAndre Swift. You cut Bucky Irving and Mike all Spot,
- 8:58Speaker 2: you cut Marshall fall fucking Kyron Williams, and your last
- 9:02Speaker 2: keep is Jonathan Taylor and Edrin James. Feeling pretty good
- 9:07Speaker 2: about it?
- 9:11Speaker 1: All that could make me feel good about cutting Marshall
- 9:13Speaker 1: Fulk perhaps the greatest running back I've ever seen.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I could have given it. I could have put Funk
- 9:18Speaker 2: on the Colts too.

- 11:21Speaker 1: NFL Draft is this weekend, first round Thursday Night. Matt
- 11:25Speaker 1: Miller is with us. He's an ESPN NFL Draft analyst.
- 11:28Speaker 1: He's excellent.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Check him out.
- 11:30Speaker 1: NFL Draft daily weekdays at three pm Eastern on ESPN two,
- 11:33Speaker 1: the ESPN APP and Disney Plus. Matt will also be
- 11:37Speaker 1: a part of ESPN's Day three NFL Draft broadcast on
- 11:41Speaker 1: ESPN and ABC.
- 11:42Speaker 5: Matt, I feel like you've moved up to a Day
- 11:44Speaker 5: one guy. I have to be honest with you out
- 11:46Speaker 5: a Day three, but a Day one guy.
- 11:49Speaker 4: There's this guy that started what I do for a
- 11:51Speaker 4: living named mel Kiper Juniors. That's the Day one guy, right.
- 11:54Speaker 4: As long as the godfathers in that chair, I'm gonna
- 11:57Speaker 4: just enjoy, yes, keeping his voice from actually during the
- 12:00Speaker 4: day doing the hits that he's not doing and doing
- 12:03Speaker 4: a lot of writing and keeping Kuyper ready to go.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I think there's room for a Miller. I think that
- 12:08Speaker 3: we don't have to take Kuyper away, but there's room
- 12:10Speaker 3: for a Miller.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Well, I appreciate that.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Yes, how helpful has Mel been? Mel is a friend
- 12:14Speaker 1: of the show. He's a friend of mikey A's. Mikey
- 12:16Speaker 1: A used to produce his show. He's on with us
- 12:18Speaker 1: all the time.
- 12:19Speaker 5: How helpful has Mel Kuiper been to you in terms
- 12:22Speaker 5: of your career?
- 12:23Speaker 4: Yeah? Super helpful. My first day at ESPN, it was
- 12:26Speaker 4: kind of a surprise. No one really knew I was
- 12:28Speaker 4: going there. I didn't even know I was going there
- 12:30Speaker 4: when I left Bleacher Report. So my first ADESPN like
- 12:32Speaker 4: happened in a hurry, and I did TV like all day,
- 12:36Speaker 4: you know how they do, like the car wash, And
- 12:38Speaker 4: then Kuyper called me. I didn't have his number, obviously.
- 12:41Speaker 4: I just get this phone call from a Maryland phone number.
- 12:43Speaker 4: And we talked for like forty five minutes. And he
- 12:45Speaker 4: talks on the phone just like he talks on TV. Right,
- 12:47Speaker 4: It's that rapid fire staccato, you know, very like Northeast style.
- 12:54Speaker 4: But yeah, we talked forever. And what's crazy is we
- 12:56Speaker 4: talked about our families and like my kids and what
- 12:59Speaker 4: do I like to do away from football, and like
- 13:02Speaker 4: we we really built a good friendship. So I think
- 13:04Speaker 4: that's the biggest way that he's been helpful. Like, you know,
- 13:07Speaker 4: he doesn't he doesn't like help me break down long
- 13:09Speaker 4: snappers or anything like that, but he's been incredibly welcoming.
- 13:12Speaker 4: And that's you know, he's the person that vouched to
- 13:14Speaker 4: get me on day three coverage. So like that says
- 13:16Speaker 4: so much about him that ESPN hires someone you know,
- 13:20Speaker 4: younger and he says, hey, like we should really add
- 13:23Speaker 4: him to the broadcast. He brings a lot of value.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Has he finished a sentence yet that he started?
- 13:30Speaker 4: I think so. I mean I think so. It's you
- 13:33Speaker 4: just have to like get through the numbers, the random
- 13:35Speaker 4: numbers that get thrown in there, you know. And then
- 13:38Speaker 4: my favorite story that I've ever heard about Mel, it's
- 13:41Speaker 4: not like the Pumpkin Pie or anything like that. It's
- 13:43Speaker 4: that like he doesn't know how to work a drive through.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Like if you go to Chick fil A with Mel,
- 13:47Speaker 4: like it's a nightmare because he just the concept of
- 13:50Speaker 4: the drive through. He hasn't It's not something he has
- 13:53Speaker 4: to deal with. It's like the President having to deal
- 13:55Speaker 4: with driving or using a debit card. That's kyper.
- 13:58Speaker 3: At a drive through work, you just drive and then
- 14:01Speaker 3: you say what you want now, come.
- 14:03Speaker 5: On right, Yeah, complicated small sound bites. You can't do that.
- 14:10Speaker 3: My apologies though, Matt. You you recently did this cool
- 14:14Speaker 3: thing where you had scouts and executives predict the top
- 14:16Speaker 3: ten picks. Which one of those were the most surprising
- 14:20Speaker 3: to you?
- 14:21Speaker 4: Yeah? I think the biggest surprise was the fact that
- 14:24Speaker 4: everyone wanted to trade out. You know, you have like
- 14:26Speaker 4: so the Raiders at one, that's chalk, but then even
- 14:29Speaker 4: at two, it was like, okay, can we start trading
- 14:32Speaker 4: back yet? And every every scout that I had, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 4: do this. There's ten different ones that do this exercise
- 14:37Speaker 4: with me, and that was the biggest question. Everyone wanted
- 14:40Speaker 4: to trade out. And then you get to guys like
- 14:42Speaker 4: Jeremiah Love, the fantastic running back from noted in, and
- 14:45Speaker 4: you have the you could like see these guys have
- 14:47Speaker 4: that conversation with themselves of too early to take a
- 14:50Speaker 4: running back or in this class where there's not a
- 14:53Speaker 4: lot of blue chip talent at left tackle, wide receiver,
- 14:57Speaker 4: edge rushers, you just take the running back off the board,
- 15:00Speaker 4: and if I remember it, he went forward to Tennessee
- 15:02Speaker 4: in this which could be a really big landing spot
- 15:04Speaker 4: for him. But to see a running back, a linebacker,
- 15:07Speaker 4: a safety come off the board in the top ten,
- 15:09Speaker 4: I think speaks to where this class is at, whereas
- 15:12Speaker 4: generally those positions fall. This year, there's like a hurry
- 15:15Speaker 4: to get Love, to get Sunny Styles from Ohio State,
- 15:18Speaker 4: to take Caleb Bounds from Ohio State. Those guys are
- 15:20Speaker 4: going to go pretty early.
- 15:22Speaker 1: In general, How do you feel about taking a running
- 15:24Speaker 1: back in the first round.
- 15:26Speaker 4: I think you have to have like the team has
- 15:28Speaker 4: to be ready. And last year with Ashton Gentzy is
- 15:30Speaker 4: a really good example of a great player who goes
- 15:32Speaker 4: to a bad team in a bad situation. They didn't
- 15:35Speaker 4: have a passing game. The offensive line I think was
- 15:37Speaker 4: the worst in the NFL. You have an offensive coordinator
- 15:40Speaker 4: that doesn't in any way mesh with what the head
- 15:43Speaker 4: coach wants to do, and we saw that because you
- 15:44Speaker 4: got fired midway through the year. It's felt like a
- 15:46Speaker 4: lot of arranged marriages that didn't work together. So to
- 15:49Speaker 4: draft a running back early, I think you have to
- 15:51Speaker 4: have a foundation for that. You could argue Arizona doesn't
- 15:54Speaker 4: have that because they don't have the quarterback Tennessee. The
- 15:58Speaker 4: New York Giants they have quarterbacks in a year two
- 16:00Speaker 4: of their rookie contracts that both showed some spark last year.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Both have some assets, whether it be on the offensive line.
- 16:06Speaker 4: The Giants a much better situation than Tennessee with Andrew Thomas,
- 16:10Speaker 4: Malik Neighbors Jackson dart back there. But I think if
- 16:13Speaker 4: you're the Giants of the Titans, it makes more sense
- 16:15Speaker 4: than if you're the Cardinals, whereas money off support might
- 16:19Speaker 4: also just need to hit, like he might just need
- 16:20Speaker 4: a good pick after they've missed on some of their
- 16:23Speaker 4: first rounders, So you could also see that being the
- 16:25Speaker 4: case for them.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You mentioned that all the scouts wanted to trade out.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I've seen a lot of conflicting reports on how many
- 16:32Speaker 2: trades we'll see, at least early in this draft. What
- 16:34Speaker 2: do you think is gonna happen? Do you think we're
- 16:36Speaker 2: gonna see a lot of teams being able to move?
- 16:39Speaker 4: Yeah? You know, it was crazy. Like two weeks ago,
- 16:41Speaker 4: I tweeted this, I didn't think we'd see a lot
- 16:43Speaker 4: of action, and I immediately got a ton of pushback,
- 16:45Speaker 4: which is the fun part about the job is you
- 16:47Speaker 4: have an opinion and then seven general managers text you
- 16:50Speaker 4: to tell you you're an idiot. So I got pushed
- 16:52Speaker 4: back pretty quickly.
- 16:53Speaker 5: And the idea was that and you know this, Matt.
- 16:56Speaker 4: So also that it is definitely lying season. But I
- 17:00Speaker 4: do think we'll see more trades. Probably not in the
- 17:02Speaker 4: top ten, but I think we'll see more in the
- 17:04Speaker 4: teams in twenties as players slip through the cracks and
- 17:08Speaker 4: some team's gonna see that value or they're going to
- 17:10Speaker 4: panic and say we have to get we have to
- 17:13Speaker 4: get a corner back. And maybe there's only two or
- 17:15Speaker 4: three that you have a first round grade on or
- 17:16Speaker 4: a starting grade on, so teams jump up the board
- 17:19Speaker 4: to try to get one of those guys. So I
- 17:20Speaker 4: initially thought we'd be low on trades, but I think
- 17:23Speaker 4: the average is five and a half. I think we
- 17:25Speaker 4: hit the over on that.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Matt, you don't have to tell me any names, but
- 17:29Speaker 3: which of the tell me some responses that are just
- 17:32Speaker 3: really blunt, like if people actually tell you you're an idiot,
- 17:35Speaker 3: or they're just like, you might want to think this one.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Yeah, No, I mean there are some guys that are
- 17:41Speaker 4: like hey, you know, they'll try to point you in
- 17:43Speaker 4: the right direction. It's like a you know that gentle parenting.
- 17:46Speaker 4: We're like, hey, have you considered this is not And
- 17:48Speaker 4: then you'll get the there's no effing way that's going
- 17:51Speaker 4: to happen. You know that's right, And it's it's fun
- 17:53Speaker 4: because it's the draft, like no one knows what's exactly
- 17:55Speaker 4: what's going to happen. Yeah, maybe Adam Schefter does. No
- 17:58Speaker 4: one else exactly knows what's going to happen, and so
- 18:00Speaker 4: that's the fun part of you know, you'll get a
- 18:03Speaker 4: general manager who I remember a couple of years ago
- 18:05Speaker 4: someone telling me there's no way Savior Worthy is going
- 18:08Speaker 4: to be available in the late first round. There there's
- 18:10Speaker 4: no effing way that's gonna happen. Sure enough, he was,
- 18:13Speaker 4: so as soon as Kansas City picked him, you know whatever,
- 18:15Speaker 4: twenty eight or twenty nine. I text that general manager
- 18:18Speaker 4: and was like, oh wow, I can't believe he was
- 18:19Speaker 4: still on the board. So that's the fun part.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Like, no matter how aggressively they deny things, you can't
- 18:25Speaker 3: believe it, right, Yeah, you can't.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Believe he knows that. Yes, yes, yes, go ahead, tell it, Matt.
- 18:30Speaker 6: What have you heard about Jordan Tyson's workout that he
- 18:34Speaker 6: held for teams on Friday and how do you think
- 18:36Speaker 6: that impacts his night on draft night.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it was good. It was a short workout. I
- 18:41Speaker 4: think that's the big takeaway. Twenty to twenty five routes
- 18:44Speaker 4: is what he ran. He dropped one pass on a
- 18:46Speaker 4: dig route. I think the biggest thing was team seeing
- 18:48Speaker 4: him healthy, just because you have it throughout the process,
- 18:51Speaker 4: so it's something sometimes you just want to see a
- 18:54Speaker 4: guy work out because you want to see him in person,
- 18:56Speaker 4: especially post injury. I don't put a lot of stock
- 18:58Speaker 4: in the fact that he didn't run a forty yard dash.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think the forty is becoming incredibly overrated because we
- 19:04Speaker 4: have GPS data of guys actually running in football pads
- 19:08Speaker 4: to see how fast they are. So with Tyson, I
- 19:10Speaker 4: think the late heat that we're getting from him is
- 19:13Speaker 4: because he was healthy enough to work out, and I've
- 19:16Speaker 4: heard teams love this. I think the Giants have him
- 19:18Speaker 4: as their top receiver, the Saints have him as their
- 19:20Speaker 4: top receiver. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs have
- 19:22Speaker 4: him as their top receiver. So the range for him
- 19:25Speaker 4: is probably I mean it's probably pick five to pick
- 19:30Speaker 4: thirteen at this point, and thirteen would be a surprise
- 19:33Speaker 4: if you thaw the way to the Rams.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Last year, everybody seemed to have different opinions on Shador Sanders.
- 19:39Speaker 2: This year, it seems like Ty Simpson is that guy.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Where do you think he actually winds up going.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I hope he doesn't fall to the fifth round because
- 19:47Speaker 4: I don't know that our broadcast can handle another Shador
- 19:51Speaker 4: slip like ty Simpson. I think he goes to Arizona.
- 19:55Speaker 4: I don't know where the idea that Arizona has to
- 19:57Speaker 4: trade up for him comes from. I don't think they do.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I don't know who else you're worried about at this point,
- 20:02Speaker 4: because when the Rams traded twenty nine for Trent McDuffie,
- 20:06Speaker 4: I think ty Simpson's game of musical chairs got a
- 20:08Speaker 4: lot more complicated because the teams that could easibly take
- 20:12Speaker 4: a quarterback late first round as like a developmental guy,
- 20:16Speaker 4: they don't have those picks any longer. So if you're
- 20:18Speaker 4: the Cardinals at thirty four, maybe you think you have
- 20:21Speaker 4: to jump the Jets, But the Jets would have passed
- 20:23Speaker 4: on him twice already. At three and sixteen, so maybe
- 20:26Speaker 4: they do it for the fifth year option. I'm also
- 20:29Speaker 4: a believer that the fifth year option is probably as
- 20:31Speaker 4: overrated as the forty yard dash, because if your quarterback's good,
- 20:33Speaker 4: you pay them after the third year. We're seeing Bryce
- 20:36Speaker 4: Young and CJ. Straub play on a fifth year option,
- 20:39Speaker 4: and that's because you don't really know if they're the
- 20:40Speaker 4: guy yet. But in a perfect world, do you either
- 20:43Speaker 4: know or don't by the time you're making that decision.
- 20:45Speaker 4: So I don't know that the value is as big
- 20:47Speaker 4: as some people want to say that it is. But
- 20:49Speaker 4: I'll say he goes to the Cardinals and maybe they
- 20:52Speaker 4: trade up to like Houston at twenty eight to take
- 20:54Speaker 4: him there.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Me and Mikey are Jet fans. This is a rule
- 20:57Speaker 5: we live by. If the Jets pass, I'm so sorry. Yeah, no,
- 21:00Speaker 5: thank you.
- 21:00Speaker 1: But if they you twice, it means you're going to Canton.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And so if I'm the card I might want to consider.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Taking him, you know, I mean, yeah, But the good
- 21:10Speaker 4: news is you have three first round picks next year,
- 21:12Speaker 4: and you would rather draft a quarterback next year that
- 21:14Speaker 4: you love than one this year that you'd like, Because
- 21:16Speaker 4: I think that's where the Jets have messed up in
- 21:18Speaker 4: the past is they get cornered into taking quarterbacks that
- 21:21Speaker 4: they don't actually like and that they're not convicted in.
- 21:24Speaker 4: And so if you were convicted about ty Sempson, you'd
- 21:26Speaker 4: take him at sixteen at worst at sixteen. So if
- 21:30Speaker 4: you don't take him there, why take them at thirty three?
- 21:32Speaker 4: If you're not going to take him at sixteen and
- 21:34Speaker 4: at least have the option of that fifth year, it
- 21:38Speaker 4: doesn't make sense to me.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Well, let's stay on the Jets here, because I see
- 21:41Speaker 3: you've got them taking Rville Reese at number two. A
- 21:43Speaker 3: lot of people have them taking David Bailey. What about
- 21:46Speaker 3: Reese makes him the right fit for the Jets in
- 21:48Speaker 3: your mind?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Yeah, Bailey would be better right now. But this isn't
- 21:52Speaker 4: a team that needs to be good in twenty twenty six.
- 21:54Speaker 4: They need to be good in twenty twenty seven and
- 21:56Speaker 4: twenty twenty eight. So I think what you do is
- 21:58Speaker 4: you take the long term play, and that's the ceiling
- 22:00Speaker 4: is higher. And if you were to ask me, okay,
- 22:03Speaker 4: who are two or three players in this draft that
- 22:05Speaker 4: could actually be all pros, It'd be Jeremiah Love, It'd
- 22:07Speaker 4: be Rvel Reese. Those are the two players that have
- 22:10Speaker 4: the tools to actually be a top five player at
- 22:13Speaker 4: their position in the NFL. So look at a guy
- 22:16Speaker 4: who had ninety seven past russ snaps last year, had
- 22:18Speaker 4: six and a half sacks, and he even said to
- 22:20Speaker 4: himself he never worked as a pass rusher in practice
- 22:23Speaker 4: and he was still able to do those things. So
- 22:25Speaker 4: I think we are looking at him Micah Parsons Abdul
- 22:27Speaker 4: Carter type player. So if you're the Jets, do you
- 22:30Speaker 4: want to take the guy that's gonna be better this year
- 22:32Speaker 4: or the guy that's gonna better in four or five years.
- 22:34Speaker 4: I think he takes the long term play with Reese.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Is there a draft you can recall where because a
- 22:39Speaker 1: lot of people are saying this is not a great draft,
- 22:41Speaker 1: right next year is a much better draft. Is there
- 22:43Speaker 1: a draft where a lot of people, a lot of
- 22:45Speaker 1: experts thought it was going to be a bad draft
- 22:46Speaker 1: and it turned out to be a great draft.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Wow, not at the top of my head, like my
- 22:52Speaker 4: twenty thirteen was a bad draft, But like Lane Johnson is,
- 22:56Speaker 4: he's a Hall of Famer and he came out of
- 22:58Speaker 4: that draft. So I think a lot of times what happens, guys,
- 23:01Speaker 4: is it's called a bad draft because there's not that
- 23:03Speaker 4: elite quarterback right and so even for like twenty thirteen,
- 23:06Speaker 4: it was a good offensive tackle draft, there's a good
- 23:08Speaker 4: safety draft. It just wasn't a good quarterback draft. And
- 23:10Speaker 4: that's what we're seeing happen this year, where Mendoza's gonna
- 23:13Speaker 4: go one, Simpson's gonna go somewhere late first early second,
- 23:16Speaker 4: we might not see another quarterback until the fourth round.
- 23:18Speaker 4: So I think that's what's driving a lot of the
- 23:20Speaker 4: narrative this year as a quote unquote bad draft. When
- 23:23Speaker 4: there's really good talent at receiver, really good talent offensive tackle,
- 23:26Speaker 4: we're gonna see probably fifteen picks in the first round
- 23:29Speaker 4: b between receiver and offensive line. So there are some
- 23:32Speaker 4: strings in this class. It's just not maybe not the
- 23:34Speaker 4: sexiest positions.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Matt, what did you make of the Bengals trading for
- 23:39Speaker 2: Dexter Lawrence and moving out of that ten spot and
- 23:42Speaker 2: giving it to the Giants.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I think in a class like this one, where
- 23:46Speaker 4: there's not a defensive tackle that's likely to be drafted
- 23:48Speaker 4: in the first round, it makes sense. I also think
- 23:51Speaker 4: if that trade convinces Joe Burrow that you're trying to win,
- 23:54Speaker 4: then you make that trade every day. You would just
- 23:57Speaker 4: give the tenth pick to someone for nothing if it
- 23:59Speaker 4: convinces Joe Burrow to be happy in staying Cincinnati, right,
- 24:02Speaker 4: you would four foreit the pick for Burrow to be like, yeah, okay,
- 24:04Speaker 4: they're trying to win here, I'll stay. So to now add,
- 24:07Speaker 4: I think one of the best defensive tackles in football
- 24:09Speaker 4: is going to free up those guys off the edge.
- 24:11Speaker 4: So you're gonna lose Trey Hendrickson. But what they've lost
- 24:15Speaker 4: and what they brought in after losing Hendrickson, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 4: to get Lawrence. I don't know that the tenth pick
- 24:20Speaker 4: in this draft is a huge difference maker. You know,
- 24:22Speaker 4: maybe Caleb Downs safety is a difference maker for you,
- 24:25Speaker 4: but you'd much rather have the best interior defensive tackle,
- 24:29Speaker 4: best nose tackle in the league instead of a pretty
- 24:32Speaker 4: good safety.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I think the clear way to make Joe Burrow happy
- 24:34Speaker 3: is just make practices flag football because he loves playing that.
- 24:38Speaker 3: It's ridiculous how hardy played out there.
- 24:41Speaker 5: Is that a question?
- 24:42Speaker 1: I mean, but how about from the Giants perspective, because
- 24:47Speaker 1: now they have the fifth pick in the draft to
- 24:49Speaker 1: tenth pick in the draft, you expect them John Horbaugh
- 24:52Speaker 1: to do what with those picks?
- 24:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we see them go Ohio State. Basically
- 24:57Speaker 4: it's they're going to probably take Sonny Style as a linebacker.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Five ten is hard, right, because I know they love
- 25:03Speaker 4: Jordan Tyson, the receiver from Arizona State. He's their top receiver.
- 25:06Speaker 4: So if he's there, that's the pick. If he's not,
- 25:08Speaker 4: we could see Caleb Downs. We could see you know,
- 25:10Speaker 4: o host Ohio State. Excuse me, being the spine of
- 25:12Speaker 4: that defense. With now you have Styles in the middle,
- 25:15Speaker 4: Downs in the back end, you're kind of going back
- 25:17Speaker 4: to that the Ravens, you know, ideal of a rangey
- 25:20Speaker 4: middle linebacker, whether it's Ray Lewis or Rokwan Smith. They've
- 25:23Speaker 4: had guys like that consistently, and then not over the
- 25:25Speaker 4: top safety. They go from Ed Reid to Kyle Hamilton,
- 25:28Speaker 4: Like that's the type of players Harball has kind of liked.
- 25:30Speaker 4: So I could envision that, but they are they're a
- 25:33Speaker 4: wild card because it went from Joe Shane calling the
- 25:35Speaker 4: shots to John Harwall on the shots. And this will
- 25:37Speaker 4: be you know, an opportunity for him to do that
- 25:39Speaker 4: for the first time. The Ravens always had Ozzie Newsom
- 25:42Speaker 4: or Eric Dacostas, So this is Harwall's first time to
- 25:44Speaker 4: really call the shots, and I think it will be
- 25:47Speaker 4: fascinating to see if you know, he doesn't have a
- 25:49Speaker 4: background on offense or defense really, so you can't say, Okay,
- 25:53Speaker 4: he's gonna go offense to load up because that's his
- 25:55Speaker 4: side of the ball. Guy was a special teams coordinator.
- 25:57Speaker 4: So I think we'll see them be balanced if they
- 26:00Speaker 4: have the opportunity to be.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Five years from now when we're discussing this draft, the
- 26:05Speaker 1: three best players from this draft will be.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Who Jeremi I love easily. I think in five years
- 26:11Speaker 4: he'll be the best running back in football.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Wow.
- 26:12Speaker 4: So he's the one off the top. I think he's
- 26:16Speaker 4: Sake one. You know, that's the type of player he's
- 26:18Speaker 4: going to be. The second one, I will go Caleb Downs.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I think he can be in all pro level safety.
- 26:24Speaker 4: He's not Derwin James, He's not Kyle Hamilton, but he
- 26:27Speaker 4: might be Buddha Baker, who is a two or three
- 26:28Speaker 4: times All Pro at this point, so he should be
- 26:31Speaker 4: in the conversation as well. And then I think Fernanda Mendoza,
- 26:35Speaker 4: and it's crazy that this dude has didn't lose a
- 26:37Speaker 4: game last year, won the National Championship, won the Heisman Trophy.
- 26:40Speaker 4: He's gonna be the number one overall pick, and we're
- 26:42Speaker 4: not talking about him daily. It's just because of supportgard conclusion.
- 26:46Speaker 4: He's going to go number one. There's no debate, so
- 26:48Speaker 4: you're not having to really jump out there and defend him.
- 26:51Speaker 4: As a player. I think he's going to be. I mean,
- 26:53Speaker 4: I'm not saying he's ever going to be Mahomes or
- 26:55Speaker 4: Josh Allen or Joe Burrow, but he's going to be
- 26:57Speaker 4: a really good NFL quarterback as long as the Raiders
- 27:00Speaker 4: can have some stability around him.
- 27:03Speaker 6: Matt, Who's the prospect that when you talk to teams
- 27:06Speaker 6: team to team, seems like they're the most split on.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Yeah, that's easy. It's Jamal McCoy, the corner from Tennessee.
- 27:13Speaker 4: And I've talked to teams that think he's the number
- 27:15Speaker 4: one corner in the class, hands down. Then you talk
- 27:17Speaker 4: to teams that think he might be the third corner
- 27:19Speaker 4: and he might fall to the second round. And it's
- 27:21Speaker 4: all because the knee injury. He tours ACL in January
- 27:24Speaker 4: twenty five, didn't play all last season, had a PRODA
- 27:27Speaker 4: about a week and a half ago, ran a four
- 27:29Speaker 4: to three. I mean he's long, he had four picks
- 27:31Speaker 4: in twenty twenty four. He's fantastic when he's healthy. But
- 27:35Speaker 4: it sounds like there's concerned about the knee long term,
- 27:38Speaker 4: not about if he could play in twenty six and
- 27:40Speaker 4: be good, but more about like what will he look
- 27:42Speaker 4: like in twenty thirty when you're talking about a second contract.
- 27:45Speaker 4: I bet we see a team in the twenties, late twenties,
- 27:48Speaker 4: one of these playoff teams that says, we'll be happy
- 27:50Speaker 4: to have a guy like that for four or five
- 27:52Speaker 4: years and then we'll move on. Maybe the Chiefs, and
- 27:54Speaker 4: he's there at twenty nine. You don't pay corners anyway.
- 27:57Speaker 4: You draft them, you develop them, and then you ship
- 27:59Speaker 4: them off. So Kansas City and he's there at twenty nine.
- 28:01Speaker 4: That's an easy pick for.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Me, Matt.
- 28:03Speaker 1: In a hypothetical world where you own an NFL team
- 28:07Speaker 1: and you could choose any GM you want to make,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know, to draft you or to handle the draft
- 28:12Speaker 1: for you, who's the guy you're going with?
- 28:15Speaker 4: I think I would take Calie Roseman, just because their
- 28:17Speaker 4: ability to foresee needs to handle the salary cap to
- 28:22Speaker 4: manipulate the board, and I think that strategy aligns with
- 28:25Speaker 4: mine of just draft the best player. Every year we
- 28:28Speaker 4: are on TV or podcast and the Eagles pick and
- 28:30Speaker 4: it's like, oh my gosh, I can't believe this guy
- 28:31Speaker 4: fell to the Eagles. It's every year. They don't panic.
- 28:34Speaker 4: They just draft to play the falls to them, and
- 28:36Speaker 4: they continually turn out super Bowl caliber teams.
- 28:39Speaker 1: The Eagles will draft as if they don't have AJ
- 28:41Speaker 1: Brown next season, right they should?
- 28:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it sounds like that's a foregone conclusion.
- 28:47Speaker 4: But they've already made those moves. You know, they added
- 28:49Speaker 4: Hollywood Brown, they traded for Wicks, so they've already started
- 28:52Speaker 4: to kind of back support that wide receiver position. But
- 28:55Speaker 4: if one's there, you know, early twenties, I think they're
- 28:58Speaker 4: twenty three. If there's a receiver there, like more Cooper
- 29:00Speaker 4: Junior from Indiana, I think you have to take them
- 29:02Speaker 4: because you do know that June first or June second,
- 29:05Speaker 4: AJ Brown is not going to be a member of
- 29:07Speaker 4: the team.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Yep, Matt, Ultimately, how much does these short arms affect
- 29:12Speaker 2: Ruben Bayn's draft stock?
- 29:14Speaker 4: It hurts it honestly does. And I think one thing
- 29:17Speaker 4: that's kind of cool about the job now is we
- 29:20Speaker 4: can look at thirty years a data basically and say,
- 29:22Speaker 4: a player with arm length under thirty one inches has
- 29:25Speaker 4: never been drafted in the first round at the edge position. Wow.
- 29:27Speaker 4: And then you can take that a step further. In
- 29:29Speaker 4: that same time span, no player with that arm measurement
- 29:32Speaker 4: has had a ten plus sax season. So he's going
- 29:34Speaker 4: to break the record for the shortest arms drafted in
- 29:37Speaker 4: the first round by edge rusher. That much, we know.
- 29:39Speaker 4: But you're basically saying, hey, we believe this player is
- 29:42Speaker 4: going to break the rules, and that's okay if you
- 29:44Speaker 4: believe that as the front office. I've talked to teams
- 29:47Speaker 4: about him that say, and this is a direct quote,
- 29:49Speaker 4: one team said, we will let everyone else be smarter
- 29:51Speaker 4: than us and draft him because they're saying that he's
- 29:54Speaker 4: going to be the rule breaker. We don't believe that
- 29:56Speaker 4: he is. So I still think Pansas Didy probably drafts
- 29:59Speaker 4: him at nine because they have such a desperate need
- 30:01Speaker 4: for pass rush. But I mean, you are basically thumbing
- 30:04Speaker 4: your nose at thirty years of numbers that say, even
- 30:07Speaker 4: if this player has you know X y Z. They
- 30:09Speaker 4: still aren't producing in the NFL at a ten plus
- 30:12Speaker 4: sack clip.
- 30:13Speaker 3: What's the number? How much longer would his arms have
- 30:15Speaker 3: to be at minimum?
- 30:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's two ways for a top five pick. Trust me,
- 30:23Speaker 1: that can mean everything, all right, that's check them out.
- 30:28Speaker 1: NFL Draft daily weekdays at three pm Eastern on ESPN two, ESPN, APP,
- 30:32Speaker 1: and Disney Plus will also be a part of ESPN's
- 30:35Speaker 1: Day three NFL Draft broadcast at ESPN and ABC. I
- 30:38Speaker 1: think he's a Day one guy, Matt Miller. We appreciate
- 30:41Speaker 1: the time. So your work is excellent. Thank you, you met.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Thanks guys, good to see you.
- 30:45Speaker 5: You got it.
